INTRO Serbia WWI
Serbia wwi: INTRO Serbia was consumed by nationalism, two major wars within the span of ten
years destroying their economy and causing tensions to rise. Austria– Hungary's annexation of
Bosnia and Herzegovina had played a primary role in sparking the Bosnian Crisis less than a decade
before, leading both countries to develop a fundamental distrust for the other, their relations
becoming permanently strained. In 1914, the seemingly inevitable occurred– war broke out in the
Balkans, prompted by the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, archduke and heir to the throne of
Austria– Hungary. Gavrilo Princip, the assassin, was a known member of the terrorist group the
Black Hands, a radical nationalistic Serbian group who sought independence for ... Show more

Romania entered the war in late 1916 on behalf of the Allies, renouncing previously held Central
alliances in order to gain Transylvania and meth, but their presence yielded no major results. Russia,
despite temporarily being rejuvenated by Romania's entrance into the war, continued to crumble
internally as animosity towards the largely incompetent royal family grew, in large part due to
Russia's role in the war. In 1917, revolution overtook Russia, the monarchy being abolished and
multiple governments being established and subsequently toppled. The Bolsheviks, led by Lenin,
took power and upon German invasion of Ukraine hesitantly agreed to the Treaty of Brest Litovsk,
ceding vast swaths of land to the Central Powers and destroying the Triple Entente. In the wake of
Russia's abrupt retreat from the war, another powerful military force joined the Allied Powers– The
US joined World War I in 1917 in an effort to halt Germans naval attacks, despite nonexistent public
support, providing support for British and French troops in attacks yet to come. The Germans
launched a massive offensive in the spring of 1918, dividing and conquering British and French
troops in an effort to end the war in victory before the US arrived. The German troops initially
appeared victorious, utilizing revolutionary battlefield tactics to regain large swaths of territory, but
ultimately they failed to hold this territory due in large part to a lack of supplies. The Allies launched
a counteroffensive strike in 1918 beginning in August of 1918, quickly decimating German progress
and sending them reeling. They waged quick attacks on the Germans, withdrawing before a
counterattack could be made, continuously assaulting the Hindenburg line. German defeat was
drawing near, and with that fate in mind the German soldiers openly rebelled, refusing to participate
in any more suicidal defensives

Eisenhower Intro Paragraph
Intro Paragraph Dwight David Eisenhower had an interesting early life. He was born on October 14,
1890. Dwight was born in Denison, Texas, however, he never considered Denison his hometown
(Mara 7). Eisenhower was the third child of seven children of Ida Elizabeth Stover Eisenhower and
David Jacob Eisenhower ("Dwight D. Eisenhower"). One of Dwight's younger brothers, Paul, was
born in 1894, but died in 1896 due to scarlet fever. In the early 1890s the Eisenhower family moved
to Abilene, Kansas. His father was a mechanical engineer that repaired equipment in a creamery
(Brown 13, 15). Dwight's father was also strict. Dwight was always a hard worker who had a
positive attitude and a responsible person who never quit. He was also stubborn. ... Show more

Truman and Eisenhower both moved early in their life. Both liked to study famous generals and
political leaders. Introduction Sentence Eisenhower had six brothers while Truman had one brother
and one sister. Eisenhower's family was on the poorer side, but the Trumans did not have to worry
about money as much. Eisenhower grew up in a non–fighting home. Eisenhower was fully involved
in sports, but Truman was restricted because of his glasses. Eisenhower was not sure of his religion,
but Truman was a definite Baptist. Introduction Sentence (Eisenhower's Military Career) Dwight
Eisenhower started his military career by applying to West Point, New York or Annapolis,
Maryland. Annapolis worked with navy training and West Point was for the army. Eisenhower
wanted to go there because the tuition was free. He ended up going to West Point. He traveled to
there in June of 1911. His parents, mostly his mother, disapproved of going to an army school, but
they allowed him to go. The newcomers to the school were called "plebes" and for the first few
weeks they were ridiculed by the older students. Eisenhower was tough and went through this with
no problem. Eisenhower gained a reputation as a troublemaker, but nothing big. Ike tried to play
sports but he did not make the baseball team, which was his favorite sport, but he made the football
team. A football injury ruined a future in athletics. Dwight Eisenhower graduated from West point in
1915 with a ranking of 61 out of 164 (Mara

Intro Aria Grande
The piece of music I decided to choose is "Intro" by Ariana Grande. Since I have such a strong love
for music there are a lot of song that I love and it's hard to choose one that I love the most. However,
if I was ever asked what is my favorite song I would probably say that song by Ariane Grande is.
She is a very talented artist and I love so many of her songs but that one is my favorite. The only
downside about the song is that it's only a minute and 20 seconds long because it's just an intro to
the album. Then again, I often think that's why it's such a great song, because it leaves the mind
wondering. The overall genre of this song is pop and R&B which probably has something to do with
why I love the song so much because those are my two favorite genres. The ... Show more content

The tempo of the song is very consistent, it never speeds up nor slows down. The rhythm of this
song can be a bit hard to find since it's so slow but the rhythm follows the 1, 2, 3 pace. The texture
of the song changes, it starts off as homophonic when she accompanied by the backup singing the
accompanied by the instruments. Then it turns into monophonic with the solo of the instruments.
This song has two major functions in my life which is aesthetic enjoyment and emotional
expression. In my opinion, this song's beauty is the epitome of perfection, I have no problem saying
that this song is one of the, if not the most beautiful song I have ever heard. I would say it functions
say emotional expression because I feel as though with the melody alone it speaks to me. Every
single time I hear this song I feel that happy and peaceful feeling you feel when you're in love. Even
if not being in love this can make you excited for it. Though the song is very slow, the mood of it is
happy. You can tell from the lyrics that she is in love and happy to be in love. You can also get hope
from the lyrics, she is hopefully that they can go together and be

National Geographic's 'Intro To Geophagy'
After watching National Geographic's videos on global warming and learning about it though other
supplementary mediums provided I can certainly agree global warming is a growing problem, that
needs to be seriously addressed. Although it may not be a threat at the current moment, global
warming will become a serious problem that we as a planet will not be able to control or reduce if
we do not act now. It truly terrifies me that future generations may not be able to enjoy everything
this wonderful earth has to offer because of global warming. For example, on page 97 in "Intro to
geophagy" by Dahlman Renwick it states how global warming will result in rising sea levels.

Since cars produce an immense amount of Carbon dioxide into our ozone. Which contribute
significantly to the rising problem known as the greenhouse effect, which is one of the main
problems involving global warming. Many of these simple tips I was able to learn through the
National Geographic's videos on global warming. Another procedure I would enforce if I was on the
Presidents Climate Task Force is a fine towards big factories that have machines that contribute to
the immense amount of pollution in our ozone. Many of their machines release carbon dioxide into
the air and contribute to the greenhouse effect which in time increases global warming. If this fine
was in forced many companies would have to change over to environmentally friendly machines to
produce their products. Although this might seem drastic this fine could help save our planet and
ever organism living on it. Finally, my last proposal I would make if I was in the Presidents Climate
Task Force would be to force construction companies, paper companies, and lumber companies as

He fears that some educators were doing this to get these students out of their classrooms and were
using the definition of ID to do it. Ms. Rama the regular classroom educator spoke of her trouble
with the definition. She indicated that the definition not only identifies ID, but allowed for other
disabilities as well. The definition states that students with mental retardation may be deficient in the
following areas: communication, physical care, home environment, social skills, self–direction,
community use, health and safety, limited academic ability, leisure and work. If a student has any
two of these deficiencies then they qualify as being ID (Thomas, 1996). Both educators expressed a
similar problem with the classification of students with ID. The classification of students with ID is
not universal, meaning that a student from another state could have mild/moderate ID and not be
identified according to that states classification. This can lead to a student not getting the assistance
that they need. They expressed that it would better serve students with ID if one set of classification
were used in the entire United States. When it came time to speak with the educators about the
characteristics of ID they had very few concerns. The

7. Give an example of when each of the following would be a good choice – an agar slant, an agar
deep, an agar plate, a broth tube. Agar in test tubes can be slanted while it is solidifying to make a
larger surface area to inoculate. Agar deeps, which aren't slanted, are usually used for "stabs" –
inoculation by stabbing a needle with a sample of the microorganism deep into the agar. This can be
useful in determining if the organism will grow – or grows best – in the presence or absence of
oxygen, and also for seeing if the microorganism is motile. Agar plates allow the bacteria to be
spread out more, so that isolated colonies can be studied. Broths are often used just to keep a culture
growing, or with the addition of particular substances, to reveal differences in metabolism. 8. What
is the purpose of nutrient media? What is the difference between a simple (or defined) medium and a
complex medium? Nutrient media provide everything the organism needs to grow. Simple media are
made by mixing up specific chemicals like salts, sugars, and amino acids. Because it is clear exactly
what is in the medium, such a medium is often called a defined medium.

Intro to Contemporary Society
To ask any person what family means in contemporary society is to take a glimpse into the
multitude of terms describing family forms, that is; "household, couple family, nuclear family,
extended family, single–parent family, blended families and stepfamilies" (Germov & Poole,
2007). Therefore regardless of how a family is structured an integral component that each one of
these families has is the role they play in the socialisation process. That is, every person's life from
the time they are born till the time they pass will be encompassed with acquiring what is their
cultural "norms, values, beliefs, attitudes and language" (Gecas, 2001, p. 2855). In doing so the
individuals self and personality will be formed and moulded.

2856). In addition, support and control from families are the most powerful models of influence in
the socialisation process. Children who are continually supported by their family through the
progression of significant life stages are found to present encouraging "cognitive development,
moral behaviour, positive self esteem, academic achievement and social competence" (Rollins
& Thomas, 1979, p. 41). Conversely, where there is a lack of family support children may
display negative outcomes. Rollins and Thomas (1979) suggest "low self esteem, delinquency,
deviance, drug use, and various other problem behaviours" (p. 42). Also, parental control is just as
important as support in the socialisation process. Just like support, the level of control families
exercise forms of punishment, discipline, supervision, strictness and monitoring can lead to positive
or negative developmental and behavioural outcomes for the child. A significant behaviour that is
discovered in the family context is what it means to be a boy or girl. This process takes place when
the families we exist in "condition our behaviours by treating boys and girls in accordance with
social expectations" (Holmes, 200, p. 43). Children "quickly learn how men and women are
expected to behave, even if those close to them do not always behave according to those
expectations" (Holmes, 2007, p. 43). The socialisation experience of girls across

Intro To Choreography
In the second section of Intro to Choreography, we have started to analyze the concept of time. We
have been introduced to certain terms such as duration, repetition, and stillness. Duration is the
length and speed/tempo we are doing a movement. Basically, how long it takes to do a movement?
Repetition is the meter or rhythm. Repeating movements can alter the perception of time to the
viewing audience. Lastly, stillness is not moving or freezing. From observing my classmates first
assignment of creating a 15 second piece with 2 seconds of stillness involved, I noticed how every
duet incorporated stillness differently than the other groups. For example, stillness couldn't be done
at the beginning or end so everybody had to figure out somewhere in the middle to incorporate the 2
seconds. Some duets had stillness towards the beginning of the 15 seconds, while ... Show more

Jones retired from dancing and five years later he decided to story tell. Bill T. Jones was a huge fan
of John Cage's readings and really felt inspired from him in creating Story/Time. The idea of form

Reflections on Intro To College Writing.
Writing has always been essential to becoming the person I am today. I 've been writing sketch
comedy and stand–up comedy for about six years, and recently I 've been working on writing music.
I love writing because it is an umbrella term that covers a wide range of topics. I learned from this
class many of the things that writing can accomplish. For example, in the first text I read, Nick
Walker introduced the idea of a "neurodiversity paradigm shift." I found this piece of text truly
inspiring because it presented a minority that many people only passively consider. Walker was able
to make an appeal that caught my attention and he proved that it is possible to make a difference in
the world just by writing. As I said before, writing is an umbrella for many different ideas and
purposes, and after taking Intro To College Writing I was introduced to ideas and movements that I
had never heard of until now, such as the idea of "mushfaking," Mushfaking was introduced in our
third text, "'Mushfaking': A Compensatory Behavior of Prisoners." The text overall did not receive a
very good reception from the class, but after further reading I learned a lot about myself and society.
The basic concept of the text was to introduce a term that many people outside of prisoner
communities are not

Maimonides 'Intro To Mishnah Sanhedrin'
Reason and Tradition Essay In both premodern and modern times, priests and religious figures have
felt threatened by the growing field of science. What they failed to realize is that science and
religion don't answer the same questions. Society needs reason, a logical and practical understanding
of the world, to answer the question "hows" of life. Yet, it also needs tradition, faith in religion or
other core belief system, to answer the "whys." As shown in Maimonides' Intro to Mishnah
Sanhedrin Chapter 10, "Sacks, the Great Partnership," and the debate between Rabbi David Wolpe
and Christopher Hitchens, reason provides explanations for the processes that allow the world to
work the way it does, while tradition provides meaning in life and an understanding of purpose.
According to Maimonides in the Intro to Mishnah Sanhedrin Chapter 10, there are three groups of
people. The first two groups he describes make the mistake of interpreting tradition too literally. He
said, "their teachings when taken literally, seem so fantastic and irrational." Religion is not supposed
to be understood on a basic level because its purpose is not to explain "how" the world works. Only
the third group understands that the Jewish tradition must be interpreted and looked at deeper to
understand its truths. By studying it deeply, tradition presents humans an ... Show more content on

No one can predict a natural disaster or world crisis. When a hurricane or flood or a pandemic
strikes a country, who is most likely to respond first? Which economic system is the best solution
for handling a crisis of epic proportion? When a natural disaster occurs the local people are typically
the first to respond. This could be local citizens, fire departments, police, or anyone who is in the
immediate area and also the local government. They help to search for living people and try to
rescue and aid as many victims as possible. National non–profit organizations like the Red Cross
and other Non Government Organizations (NGO's) are normally on the scene relatively quickly to
try to ease the suffering and aid in the humanitarian causes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A mixed economy would have more financial resources to expend because of the higher taxation on
items for defense and the common welfare. What advantages might a socialist system have in
responding to the needs of people struck by an emergency situation like the earthquake that occurred
in Haiti in January of 2010? A socialist system would have a few advantages that would not be
available to other systems as a result of their complete control of the country. A perfect example
would be in the handling of food and other supplies in the aftermath of the catastrophe. Nickels et al.
(2010) shows that in a socialist country the ownership of the major businesses is done by the people.
Since the people control the major businesses, they also control the items that they produce. A
socialist economy promotes equality and they have higher taxes. This enables a socialist system to
have the resources that will be needed in the aftermath of a crisis. The system would control the
products and the capital needed to provide humanitarian aid, basic necessities, and the money to re–
build. Nickels et al. (2010) shows that in a capitalist society, that would not be the case. Major
corporations are controlled by the private sector and the taxes tend to be allocated for other things.
In the current economy it would be extremely difficult to find additional funding without

"The person of faith no matter what they believe God, Buddha, Allah or Satan thinks differently than

is the predominant religion in the West, much of my lectures on religion will be aimed at the belief
in the monotheistic God of Christianity." Mario turned to Adrian and raised his brows. "The first
question for those who believe in a God is what kind of God would He be?" A few hands shot up.
Professor Wellington's eyes scanned the room and he chose a girl from the sea of students. "Please
stand up," he said. She stood to her feet. "A just one," she said, staring Professor Wellington dead in
the eye. "Oh really." He moved to her side of the room. "I must ask the age–old question. Why is
there evil in this world?" "God gave us free will and sin came into the world through Adam and
Eve's disobedience to God. He never promised a world without suffering." "Okay, Miss and what's
your name?" "Adelina." "Anyone beg to differ?" He surveyed the room. Adrian felt this would be

However, it still involves showing respect for one's guests, providing for their needs, and treating
them as equals. Cultures and subcultures vary in the extent to which one is expected to show
hospitality to strangers, as opposed to personal friends or members of one's in–group.
The hospitality service industry includes hotels, casinos, and resorts, which offer comfort and
guidance to strangers, but only as part of a business relationship. The terms hospital, hospice, and
hostel also derive from "hospitality," and these institutions preserve more of the connotation of
personal care.
Hospitality ethics is a discipline that studies this usage of hospitality.
In the western context, with its dynamic tension between Athens and Jerusalem, two phases can be
distinguished with a very progressive transition: a hospitality based on an individually felt sense of
duty, and one based on "official" institutions for organized but anonymous social services: special
places for particular types of "strangers" such as the poor, orphan(s), ill, alien, criminal, etc. Perhaps
this progressive institutionalization can be aligned to the transition between Middle Ages and
Renaissance (Ivan Illich, The Rivers North of the Future). An example of Hospitality would be "I'm
going to get you a pillow and make you feel real good." This is showing the guest hospitality

It is very necessary to discuss concepts/ideas in philosophy in addition to words, it brings about the
relationship of generalization and common ground. This discussion also brings to the surface
questions about communication and understanding, how relevant or particular it is or not. How do
we know what someone is saying opposed to what they are thinking when there is a universal

Intro Childhood Attention
Intro childhood attention. As a toddler, attention is not focused on one object or event for a very
long time. As a preschooler, attention is a bit more focused, and a child might be able to watch
television for a half hour. As children get a little older, executive and sustained attention becomes
more advanced. Having a better executive attention supports a toddler's and preschooler's effortful
control because of increases in comprehension and language development. Children also begin to
better understand their environment and develop a better appreciation of their surroundings, which
helps them to sustain attention for longer amounts of time. Children also develop control over

Given the right cues and prompts, young children can remember a lot of information, but not as
much as adults because they are not as expert in most areas. However, having growing knowledge is
a likely source of memory improvement. The fuzzy trace theory says that young children tend to
encode, store, and retrieve specific details of information, while elementary school children encode,
store, and retrieve the main idea of information. A child's memory span is the capacity of his or her
short term memory. To determine a child's memory span, he or she hears a short list of stimuli, such
as numbers, at a fast pace and then has to recite as many of those numbers back as possible. The
speed of the information processing is important, specifically the speed at which memory items can
be identified. The speed of repetition is another powerful predictor of memory span. There are
several strategies that children can use to help their long–term memory. One strategy is organization,
and is mostly used by older children. An example of organization would being able to recall the days
of the week in chronological order very quickly, but not alphabetically. Another strategy is
elaboration. Elementary students are less likely to use elaboration than adolescents, but can be
taught how to use it on a certain learning task. Elaboration is an extensive processing of information,
and includes thinking of examples and making personal connections. Imagery is another memory
strategy, and is most helpful to older elementary students. When using imagery, children create
mental images of verbal information. Teachers can also use strategies for helping their students
remember information. These include: repeat with variation on the instructional information, link
early and often, and embed memory relevant

Around 1790, there were 700,000 slaves in the United States. And by 1860, the number of slaves
moved up to 4 million (lecture). The reason why the numbers had changed so drastically was
because of the cotton boom. The cotton growing was concentrated on plantations rather than the
small farms. Around 75% of slaves lived in groups of around 10 or more slaves, which made
changes in the African American slave communities and culture (lecture). With the slave

Christianity wasn't instructed in the early 18th century because it was assumed that they were not

rather merged the culture with new American and European customs. There was a sense of equality
when the blacks and whites worshiped together. Blacks were actually able to respond to Christianity

shown in Sacred Hunger, few European adventurers went inland. The slave traders' holds were
referred to factories. During the African slave trade, Africa was a major market for European goods
such as textiles and guns. The slave trade on the African West coast became central to wealth for the

Introduction to Philosophy Essay
There are many reasons one should study philosophy. The study of philosophy can ultimately
change the way a person lives and unlock some deep questions about the meaning of their life.
Questions you ask yourself such as why you are doing the things you are doing or where your life is
heading or what you want to become in life can be answered throughout the study of a philosophy
course. Understanding philosophy is the key in motivating us as individuals to explore life's most
challenging issues. Moreover, learning to understand philosophy will help you to become more
open–minded, thoughtful, attuned to life in general, more of a critical thinker, and less accepting of

Children may ask questions such as, "Why did God create life?" or "Why are bad people bad?" The
best way to approach these questions is to follow the facts and be blatantly honest. Knowledge is
never gained by exaggerations and false pretenses. Philosophy is the pursuit of wisdom, reflecting
passion, commitment, and intellectual ambition. Wisdom does not merely mean having knowledge
in certain areas of life, a "wise," person knows how to use that knowledge and apply it to the issues
of life. Wise people are usually humble and do not think they have all the answers in life; rather they
approach the world with a childlike eagerness to learn. Viewing philosophy as the pursuit of wisdom
was given eloquent expression by the female philosopher Perictione, "Humanity came into being
and exists in order to contemplate the principle of the nature of the whole. The function of wisdom
is to gain possession of this very thing, and to contemplate the purpose of the things that are."
(Chaffee Ch1 p. 7) "Philosophy is the science that considers the truth." – Aristotle. What we know to
be true and false is very detrimental in life. Truth and reality can sometimes change our lives for the
better or the worse depending on how we approach the situation. Philosophy is committed to the

value of 0.00203. This p–value indicates a significant difference between the avg. jump heights of
males and females. The bars are the avg. jump heights along with standard deviation of the mean.
Results: The p–value of 0.00203 is p<0.05 thus we reject the null hypothesis and conclude that
there is a significant difference between the two means. A big part that contributes to this result
(significant differences) is that males on average tend to have more muscle mass than females ...

Maybe calves do play a roll but one that causes a relationship between the two. Other factors could
have affected the overall results could be that the jumping was not standardized, lack of a bigger
sample size, and the fact that when measuring the jump height it had to be predicted where the
person's hand reached, thus leading to huge assumptions on the measuring part.
Comparison of calf circumference and jump height in females
Figure 3: Comparison of avg. calf circumference and jump height (both in CM) in females (n=10). A
R2 value of 0.0426 (0.042592 in EXCEL) indicates a weak relationship between calf circumference
and jump height.
Results: Obtaining a R2 value of 0.042592 means there is no relationship between calf
circumference and jump height. One cannot determine the jump height by having the calf
circumference. Similarly with the calf circumference and jump height in males, physiologically, it
would make more sense for the hamstrings and quads to play a bigger role in jumping height as they
are bigger muscles and generate most of the force to jump. Even if calf circumference did have a
role it might be insignificant. Additionally, there could have been other factors that contribute to the
end results: everyone not jumping with the same intent (max effort versus minimal effort), possible
injuries, or soreness. Another source that could have contributed to end results for being what they
are is the lack of a big sample size. Additionally, measuring the

It also gave some indication of the wealth and prosperity of the monastery and, inside, would
probably commemorate patrons who provided sustained support to the community. The most
precious human remains in a monastic church were the relics of saints preserved in shrines behind
the high altar. The Church became a center for learning, with the monks becoming cultural carriers
transmitting the written treasures of the past by preserving and copying ancient texts. An example of
this would be Hrotsvit. Hrotsvit wrote books about Christian legends and wrote Roman dramas with
an Christian spin to it. Often, the only literate members of society were the monks/priest. It was the
monks who made and transmitted written copies of the Bible and other ancient works from
generation to generation. They organized some of the first libraries. They conducted scientific and
other research to benefit the surrounding communities. They were expert farmers who were able to
pass on the benefits of their expertise to peasants on the large manors. Monasticism has played a

The American Dream Essay Intro
The best aspects from my essay were the intro and the use integrating quotes in the essay. I believe
that the intro was one of the best part because it followed the parts of a inverted pyramid and that it
grabs the reader and makes them want to read more. In the essay when it states "Everyone has one
dream or goal in life and there are certain characteristics one must possess to achieve that dream, but
things might get in the way of being able to achieve that dream", it makes people think how is the
american dream not achievable and what are the characteristics needed to try to achieve the dream.
This makes the reader want to continues to read. The use of intergrading quotes was another thing
that stood out in my essay. In examples such as, "At Rene's school his class is sharing what they
want to be when they are older and Rene shares with the class that he would like to be an astronaut
or an actor or a magician. His teacher responds to what he said ... Show more content on

When I said "Although these pieces of evidence show that the American dream is achievable with
perseverance they are misleading because the American dream is not always achievable as proven in
the previous paragraphs", I was trying to make this my although claim and I felt as if I could have
made this a more prominent part of my essay to create a strong opposing paragraph. In my
conclusion i feel like i could have created a stronger closer by tying all the pieces of evidence and
saying something about how all of the show why the american dream in not guaranteed. Instead I
simply said "The characteristics needed to achieve the American Dream such as ambition,
opportunism and perseverance may help one achieve their dream, but it does not guarantee that they
will achieve their dream" I still think this is a pretty strong statement but it could have been

1a. Define routinization:
Routinization is the way people go about doing something. It's a method to organize chaos and when
practiced it accomplishes the goal quickly and effectively. There are different methods used, but
ultimately routinization produces the desired result.
1b. Strategies in the ER:
In the essay by Chambliss' essay, "Just Another Routine Emergency", we learn of the best strategies
that are used in the ER's across the USA to routinize chaos. One of the main strategies used is
keeping the public out of the work area. By doing this it helps maintain tranquility for the patients
and the hospital staff. It is normal for people to panic during an emergency, but it is just the opposite

When you dissect the four words and look at them individually you can figure out what the essay
consists of. It is strong title with key terms that make you stop and think for a minute. To me, the
most important word in that title is "becoming". To "become" is to undergo change or development
on your own free will. In order to become something or someone you must want to learn the skills
and successfully master them. This is why the word "becoming" in the title "Becoming a Hit Man"
is the most interesting to me.
3b. SOC 201 and "Becoming A Hit Man":
Reading an essay like this in SOC 201 is fitting because it makes you think differently, learn
something new and see from a different perspective. Through SOC 201 we learn to ask questions in
a way that allows us to get the most honest answers possible in order for us students to better
understand the way people think. In "Becoming A Hit Man" we learn about the thought process that
goes into thinking, planning, carrying out the murder. In this essay we meet a hit man named "Pete"
and he explains to Levi that there are "economic motives" that got him into doing it and that now it's
"just a job"... a job that pays the bills. Further more we learn that it wasn't always easy for Pete. On
his first kill he immediately got sick to his stomach and couldn't keep anything down for the next
two months. This introduces the term "frame break" explained by Goffman as a way of controlling
the situation

I. Describe: Anxiety is something I have been dealing with since I was in my childhood. I never
fully understood anxiety until it started getting worse as I got into my adolescent stage. I had talked
to my mom and grandma about it a lot of times to make sure I was okay. I have been through several
both anxiety and panic attacks. I have been one to worry about everything. Pathological anxiety and
fear was very random for me. I never understood what was going on. Growing up whenever I would
learn something new an example is, my aunt had a tumor in her armpit and it started as a lump. I one
time had a small bump and instantly worried myself that it was a ... Show more content on

My mom was really worried about me she thought I had a generalized anxiety disorder so I went to
the doctors to get medicine. My dad has anxiety and doesn't like to be in large crowds or he will
start to panic, but he will never admit that to me. He is a very strong–headed person and doesn't
believe anxiety exists. Mine actually just gets bad in certain restaurants, around certain people, and
sometimes it comes out of nowhere. The other day at work there was no one in there I just started
worrying about small things and next thing I knew I was having a small panic attack. My cognitive
bias was just overreacting about small things. The worst thing to ever go through is an anxiety
attack. You start to have a heightened physiological arousal, high–strung temperament, and
neurochemical imbalance. I literally thought I was dying whenever I was going through one. III.
Predict: I thought I was going to go through something more serious then just anxiety if I didn't do
anything about it. I thought I was going to have depression because I wouldn't go out and do things
because my anxiety would take a toll on me. I thought something even more serious as PTSD. I
would stress myself out thinking I was so different and never going to be a normal girl that could go
on dates or just go somewhere with friends. The worst part was this all started getting severe in my

INTRO Serbia WWI

  • 1. INTRO Serbia WWI Serbia wwi: INTRO Serbia was consumed by nationalism, two major wars within the span of ten years destroying their economy and causing tensions to rise. Austria– Hungary's annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina had played a primary role in sparking the Bosnian Crisis less than a decade before, leading both countries to develop a fundamental distrust for the other, their relations becoming permanently strained. In 1914, the seemingly inevitable occurred– war broke out in the Balkans, prompted by the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, archduke and heir to the throne of Austria– Hungary. Gavrilo Princip, the assassin, was a known member of the terrorist group the Black Hands, a radical nationalistic Serbian group who sought independence for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Romania entered the war in late 1916 on behalf of the Allies, renouncing previously held Central alliances in order to gain Transylvania and meth, but their presence yielded no major results. Russia, despite temporarily being rejuvenated by Romania's entrance into the war, continued to crumble internally as animosity towards the largely incompetent royal family grew, in large part due to Russia's role in the war. In 1917, revolution overtook Russia, the monarchy being abolished and multiple governments being established and subsequently toppled. The Bolsheviks, led by Lenin, took power and upon German invasion of Ukraine hesitantly agreed to the Treaty of Brest Litovsk, ceding vast swaths of land to the Central Powers and destroying the Triple Entente. In the wake of Russia's abrupt retreat from the war, another powerful military force joined the Allied Powers– The US joined World War I in 1917 in an effort to halt Germans naval attacks, despite nonexistent public support, providing support for British and French troops in attacks yet to come. The Germans launched a massive offensive in the spring of 1918, dividing and conquering British and French troops in an effort to end the war in victory before the US arrived. The German troops initially appeared victorious, utilizing revolutionary battlefield tactics to regain large swaths of territory, but ultimately they failed to hold this territory due in large part to a lack of supplies. The Allies launched a counteroffensive strike in 1918 beginning in August of 1918, quickly decimating German progress and sending them reeling. They waged quick attacks on the Germans, withdrawing before a counterattack could be made, continuously assaulting the Hindenburg line. German defeat was drawing near, and with that fate in mind the German soldiers openly rebelled, refusing to participate in any more suicidal defensives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dwight was born in Denison, Texas, however, he never considered Denison his hometown (Mara 7). Eisenhower was the third child of seven children of Ida Elizabeth Stover Eisenhower and David Jacob Eisenhower ("Dwight D. Eisenhower"). One of Dwight's younger brothers, Paul, was born in 1894, but died in 1896 due to scarlet fever. In the early 1890s the Eisenhower family moved to Abilene, Kansas. His father was a mechanical engineer that repaired equipment in a creamery (Brown 13, 15). Dwight's father was also strict. Eisenhower and Truman were interested in war. Both were hard workers. Truman and Eisenhower both moved early in their life. Both liked to study famous generals and political leaders. Introduction Sentence Eisenhower had six brothers while Truman had one brother and one sister. Eisenhower's family was on the poorer side, but the Trumans did not have to worry about money as much. Eisenhower grew up in a non–fighting home. Eisenhower was fully involved in sports, but Truman was restricted because of his glasses. Eisenhower was not sure of his religion, but Truman was a definite Baptist. Introduction Sentence (Eisenhower's Military Career) Dwight Eisenhower started his military career by applying to West Point, New York or Annapolis, Maryland. Annapolis worked with navy training and West Point was for the army. Eisenhower wanted to go there because the tuition was free. He ended up going to West Point. He traveled to there in June of 1911. His parents, mostly his mother, disapproved of going to an army school, but they allowed him to go. The newcomers to the school were called "plebes" and for the first few weeks they were ridiculed by the older students. Eisenhower was tough and went through this with no problem. Eisenhower gained a reputation as a troublemaker, but nothing big. Ike tried to play sports but he did not make the baseball team, which was his favorite sport, but he made the football team. A football injury ruined a future in athletics. Dwight Eisenhower graduated from West point in 1915 with a ranking of 61 out of 164 (Mara ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since I have such a strong love for music there are a lot of song that I love and it's hard to choose one that I love the most. However, if I was ever asked what is my favorite song I would probably say that song by Ariane Grande is. She is a very talented artist and I love so many of her songs but that one is my favorite. The only downside about the song is that it's only a minute and 20 seconds long because it's just an intro to the album. Then again, I often think that's why it's such a great song, because it leaves the mind wondering. The overall genre of this song is pop and R&B which probably has something to do with why I love the song so much because those are my two favorite genres. The ... Then it turns into monophonic with the solo of the instruments. This song has two major functions in my life which is aesthetic enjoyment and emotional expression. In my opinion, this song's beauty is the epitome of perfection, I have no problem saying that this song is one of the, if not the most beautiful song I have ever heard. I would say it functions say emotional expression because I feel as though with the melody alone it speaks to me. Every single time I hear this song I feel that happy and peaceful feeling you feel when you're in love. Even if not being in love this can make you excited for it. Though the song is very slow, the mood of it is happy. You can tell from the lyrics that she is in love and happy to be in love. Although it may not be a threat at the current moment, global warming will become a serious problem that we as a planet will not be able to control or reduce if we do not act now. It truly terrifies me that future generations may not be able to enjoy everything this wonderful earth has to offer because of global warming. Another procedure I would enforce if I was on the Presidents Climate Task Force is a fine towards big factories that have machines that contribute to the immense amount of pollution in our ozone. Many of their machines release carbon dioxide into the air and contribute to the greenhouse effect which in time increases global warming. If this fine was in forced many companies would have to change over to environmentally friendly machines to produce their products. Although this might seem drastic this fine could help save our planet and ever organism living on it. Ms. Rama the regular classroom educator spoke of her trouble with the definition. She indicated that the definition not only identifies ID, but allowed for other disabilities as well. The definition states that students with mental retardation may be deficient in the following areas: communication, physical care, home environment, social skills, self–direction, community use, health and safety, limited academic ability, leisure and work. If a student has any two of these deficiencies then they qualify as being ID (Thomas, 1996). Both educators expressed a similar problem with the classification of students with ID. The classification of students with ID is not universal, meaning that a student from another state could have mild/moderate ID and not be identified according to that states classification. This can lead to a student not getting the assistance that they need. They expressed that it would better serve students with ID if one set of classification were used in the entire United States. When it came time to speak with the educators about the characteristics of ID they had very few concerns. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Agar in test tubes can be slanted while it is solidifying to make a larger surface area to inoculate. Agar deeps, which aren't slanted, are usually used for "stabs" – inoculation by stabbing a needle with a sample of the microorganism deep into the agar. This can be useful in determining if the organism will grow – or grows best – in the presence or absence of oxygen, and also for seeing if the microorganism is motile. Agar plates allow the bacteria to be spread out more, so that isolated colonies can be studied. Broths are often used just to keep a culture growing, or with the addition of particular substances, to reveal differences in metabolism. 8. What is the purpose of nutrient media? Intro to Contemporary Society To ask any person what family means in contemporary society is to take a glimpse into the multitude of terms describing family forms, that is; "household, couple family, nuclear family, extended family, single–parent family, blended families and stepfamilies" (Germov & Poole, 2007). Therefore regardless of how a family is structured an integral component that each one of these families has is the role they play in the socialisation process. That is, every person's life from the time they are born till the time they pass will be encompassed with acquiring what is their cultural "norms, values, beliefs, attitudes and language" (Gecas, 2001, p. 2855). In doing so the individuals self and personality will be formed and moulded. For the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2856). In addition, support and control from families are the most powerful models of influence in the socialisation process. Children who are continually supported by their family through the progression of significant life stages are found to present encouraging "cognitive development, moral behaviour, positive self esteem, academic achievement and social competence" (Rollins & Thomas, 1979, p. 41). Conversely, where there is a lack of family support children may display negative outcomes. Rollins and Thomas (1979) suggest "low self esteem, delinquency, deviance, drug use, and various other problem behaviours" (p. 42). Also, parental control is just as important as support in the socialisation process. Just like support, the level of control families exercise forms of punishment, discipline, supervision, strictness and monitoring can lead to positive or negative developmental and behavioural outcomes for the child. A significant behaviour that is discovered in the family context is what it means to be a boy or girl. This process takes place when the families we exist in "condition our behaviours by treating boys and girls in accordance with social expectations" (Holmes, 200, p. 43). Children "quickly learn how men and women are expected to behave, even if those close to them do not always behave according to those expectations" (Holmes, 2007, p. 43). We have been introduced to certain terms such as duration, repetition, and stillness. Duration is the length and speed/tempo we are doing a movement. Basically, how long it takes to do a movement? Repetition is the meter or rhythm. Repeating movements can alter the perception of time to the viewing audience. Lastly, stillness is not moving or freezing. From observing my classmates first assignment of creating a 15 second piece with 2 seconds of stillness involved, I noticed how every duet incorporated stillness differently than the other groups. For example, stillness couldn't be done at the beginning or end so everybody had to figure out somewhere in the middle to incorporate the 2 seconds. Web 991278336 11 Reflections on Intro To College Writing. Writing has always been essential to becoming the person I am today. I 've been writing sketch comedy and stand–up comedy for about six years, and recently I 've been working on writing music. I love writing because it is an umbrella term that covers a wide range of topics. I learned from this class many of the things that writing can accomplish. For example, in the first text I read, Nick Walker introduced the idea of a "neurodiversity paradigm shift." I found this piece of text truly inspiring because it presented a minority that many people only passively consider. Walker was able to make an appeal that caught my attention and he proved that it is possible to make a difference in the world just by writing. As I said before, writing is an umbrella for many different ideas and purposes, and after taking Intro To College Writing I was introduced to ideas and movements that I had never heard of until now, such as the idea of "mushfaking," Mushfaking was introduced in our third text, "'Mushfaking': A Compensatory Behavior of Prisoners." The text overall did not receive a very good reception from the class, but after further reading I learned a lot about myself and society. The basic concept of the text was to introduce a term that many people outside of prisoner communities are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Maimonides 'Intro To Mishnah Sanhedrin' Reason and Tradition Essay In both premodern and modern times, priests and religious figures have felt threatened by the growing field of science. What they failed to realize is that science and religion don't answer the same questions. Society needs reason, a logical and practical understanding of the world, to answer the question "hows" of life. Yet, it also needs tradition, faith in religion or other core belief system, to answer the "whys." As shown in Maimonides' Intro to Mishnah Sanhedrin Chapter 10, "Sacks, the Great Partnership," and the debate between Rabbi David Wolpe and Christopher Hitchens, reason provides explanations for the processes that allow the world to work the way it does, while tradition provides meaning in life and an understanding of purpose. According to Maimonides in the Intro to Mishnah Sanhedrin Chapter 10, there are three groups of people. The first two groups he describes make the mistake of interpreting tradition too literally. He said, "their teachings when taken literally, seem so fantastic and irrational." Religion is not supposed to be understood on a basic level because its purpose is not to explain "how" the world works. Only the third group understands that the Jewish tradition must be interpreted and looked at deeper to understand its truths. By studying it deeply, tradition presents humans an ... What advantages might a socialist system have in responding to the needs of people struck by an emergency situation like the earthquake that occurred in Haiti in January of 2010? A socialist system would have a few advantages that would not be available to other systems as a result of their complete control of the country. A perfect example would be in the handling of food and other supplies in the aftermath of the catastrophe. Nickels et al. A socialist economy promotes equality and they have higher taxes. This enables a socialist system to have the resources that will be needed in the aftermath of a crisis. However, it still involves showing respect for one's guests, providing for their needs, and treating them as equals. Cultures and subcultures vary in the extent to which one is expected to show hospitality to strangers, as opposed to personal friends or members of one's in–group. The hospitality service industry includes hotels, casinos, and resorts, which offer comfort and guidance to strangers, but only as part of a business relationship. The terms hospital, hospice, and hostel also derive from "hospitality," and these institutions preserve more of the connotation of personal care. Hospitality ethics is a discipline that studies this usage of hospitality. In the western context, with its dynamic tension between Athens and Jerusalem, two phases can be distinguished with a very progressive transition: a hospitality based on an individually felt sense of duty, and one based on "official" institutions for organized but anonymous social services: special places for particular types of "strangers" such as the poor, orphan(s), ill, alien, criminal, etc. Perhaps this progressive institutionalization can be aligned to the transition between Middle Ages and Renaissance (Ivan Illich, The Rivers North of the Future). An example of Hospitality would be "I'm going to get you a pillow and make you feel real good." This is showing the guest hospitality [edit] Hospitality around the world

As a preschooler, attention is a bit more focused, and a child might be able to watch television for a half hour. As children get a little older, executive and sustained attention becomes more advanced. Having a better executive attention supports a toddler's and preschooler's effortful control because of increases in comprehension and language development. Children also begin to better understand their environment and develop a better appreciation of their surroundings, which helps them to sustain attention for longer amounts of time. Children also develop control over attention from preschool age to late childhood. Stimulus that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Given the right cues and prompts, young children can remember a lot of information, but not as much as adults because they are not as expert in most areas. However, having growing knowledge is a likely source of memory improvement. The fuzzy trace theory says that young children tend to encode, store, and retrieve specific details of information, while elementary school children encode, store, and retrieve the main idea of information. A child's memory span is the capacity of his or her short term memory. To determine a child's memory span, he or she hears a short list of stimuli, such as numbers, at a fast pace and then has to recite as many of those numbers back as possible. The speed of the information processing is important, specifically the speed at which memory items can be identified. The speed of repetition is another powerful predictor of memory span. There are several strategies that children can use to help their long–term memory. One strategy is organization, and is mostly used by older children. An example of organization would being able to recall the days of the week in chronological order very quickly, but not alphabetically. Another strategy is elaboration. Elementary students are less likely to use elaboration than adolescents, but can be taught how to use it on a certain learning task. Elaboration is an extensive processing of information, and includes thinking of examples and making personal connections. Imagery is another memory strategy, and is most helpful to older elementary students. When using imagery, children create mental images of verbal information. Teachers can also use strategies for helping their students remember information. These include: repeat with variation on the instructional information, link early and often, and embed memory relevant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The study of philosophy can ultimately change the way a person lives and unlock some deep questions about the meaning of their life. Questions you ask yourself such as why you are doing the things you are doing or where your life is heading or what you want to become in life can be answered throughout the study of a philosophy course. The best way to approach these questions is to follow the facts and be blatantly honest. Knowledge is never gained by exaggerations and false pretenses. Philosophy is the pursuit of wisdom, reflecting passion, commitment, and intellectual ambition. Wisdom does not merely mean having knowledge in certain areas of life, a "wise," person knows how to use that knowledge and apply it to the issues of life. Wise people are usually humble and do not think they have all the answers in life; rather they approach the world with a childlike eagerness to learn. Viewing philosophy as the pursuit of wisdom was given eloquent expression by the female philosopher Perictione, "Humanity came into being and exists in order to contemplate the principle of the nature of the whole. The function of wisdom is to gain possession of this very thing, and to contemplate the purpose of the things that are." Results: The p–value of 0.00203 is p<0.05 thus we reject the null hypothesis and conclude that there is a significant difference between the two means. Maybe calves do play a roll but one that causes a relationship between the two. Other factors could have affected the overall results could be that the jumping was not standardized, lack of a bigger sample size, and the fact that when measuring the jump height it had to be predicted where the person's hand reached, thus leading to huge assumptions on the measuring part. Comparison of calf circumference and jump height in females Figure 3: Comparison of avg. calf circumference and jump height (both in CM) in females (n=10). A R2 value of 0.0426 (0.042592 in EXCEL) indicates a weak relationship between calf circumference and jump height. Results: Obtaining a R2 value of 0.042592 means there is no relationship between calf circumference and jump height. One cannot determine the jump height by having the calf circumference. Similarly with the calf circumference and jump height in males, physiologically, it would make more sense for the hamstrings and quads to play a bigger role in jumping height as they are bigger muscles and generate most of the force to jump. Even if calf circumference did have a role it might be insignificant. Additionally, there could have been other factors that contribute to the end results: everyone not jumping with the same intent (max effort versus minimal effort), possible injuries, or soreness. The most precious human remains in a monastic church were the relics of saints preserved in shrines behind the high altar. The Church became a center for learning, with the monks becoming cultural carriers transmitting the written treasures of the past by preserving and copying ancient texts. An example of this would be Hrotsvit. Hrotsvit wrote books about Christian legends and wrote Roman dramas with an Christian spin to it. Often, the only literate members of society were the monks/priest. It was the monks who made and transmitted written copies of the Bible and other ancient works from generation to generation.
