Umami Taste
This is a very common question asked by many people and by researching, I have gathered enough
information to answer this question. What most people recognize as taste is actually the result from
their sense of smell. So therefore it is not what you taste it is what you smell. The human tongue has
about 10,000 taste buds, yet the human tongue only recognizes four basic taste sensations. The four
basic taste sensations that are recognized are classified as sweet, sour, bitter, and salty. A 5th sensation
that the human tongue recognize, yet is not considered to be basic is called Umami that is energized
by MSG. Umami was discovered by the Japanese and it means delicious in Japanese. Umami taste
buds taste savory flavors such as spicy, salty,

Mozart During The Romantic Period
Bach was from the late Baroque time and composed numerous pieces with counterpoint and one
subject for each development at an exceptionally consistent rhythm where the topic would be changed
and expounded on.
Mozart was from the mid Classical time frame a composed music with clear subjects gave
straightforward foundation parts supporting it pleasingly. The Classical time included pieces that had
numerous topics in a solitary development. This music likewise has a genuinely steady beat.
Beethoven was conceived in the late Classical time and essentially began the Romantic period.
Beethoven would compose clear subjects however create them a great deal more completely than
Mozart and utilized extremely complex syncopation and counterpoint in the advancement of his
topics. Beethoven likewise utilized more liquid rhythms and more prominent element differentiate in
his music that is normal for the Romantic period.

The Gold Of The Bronze Style
In China, bronze was often employed with ritual vessels, and this can be best seen with a comparison
between an eleventh century B.C.E. you vessel and a fourth century hu vessel that were standard in
this time period. These pieces were in high demand during this period from feudal dignitaries starting
during the Shang period. They served the purpose of holding wine for ritual ceremonies. The hu
especially acted as a vessel for diluting wine with water. While the hu vessel was popular in the
Eastern Zhou territory, the you vessel was most frequently used during the early Western Zhou
territory. The you ritual wine vessel was common for its time period as it, embodies the principal
elements that make up the Shang bronze style the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was common during this period, as they represented as zoomorphic masks, where humans are
made to look like animals. Around the birds, the artist designed geometric images to fill in the space.
In order to separate the images in the background of the you, the artist incorporates bands. This creates
a symmetrical layout of the different images around the vessel, as they repeat. The animal motifs
outside of the background also repeat symmetrically, as you circle the you. While the hu vessel was
made around seven centuries later, it features similar decorations as the you vessel. The pictorial
representations also follow a band structure. Although the majority of the bands are filled with
geometric designs, one band repeats second from the top and second from the bottom and it features
birds. These birds are less naturalistic than ones featured in the you vessel, but they serve a stylistic
purpose. At this time, the hunt is also a characteristic subject of some bronze vessels of the late Zhou
period. Often it is less pictorially handled, as on vessels with panels of rather geometric, static hunting
scenes in low relief silhouette. Here the hunt is represented with the birds depicted in the bands. This
could have acted as a significant reference food sacrifices in rituals. An animal s beak also appears
around the handle of the ritual vessel. Here the artist incorporated the animal motif to serve a practical
purpose, as it holds the ring to carry the

Discovery of DNA double helix: Related to both Scientific and Humane Aspects
DNA, the molecule of life that carries genetic information in humans and almost all other organisms,
has been considered as one of the greatest discoveries until now. If DNA could not have been
discovered, we would not be able to do or test numerous things such as paternity test and pathological
confirmation. There are four main scientists who contributed their lives, knowledge, and ambitions to
find out the DNA double helix, a DNA molecule that has two strands winding around each other:
James Watson, Francis Crick, Maurice Wilkins, and Rosalind Franklin. Throughout historical
backgrounds and environments, their discovery of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1952, Linus Pauling, who was eager to know the shape of DNA, had published a paper about his
proposal of a triple helical structure for DNA (Watson 54). Following Pauling, Watson and Crick also
worked on the triple helical model, but according to the X ray data, the theory for the triple helical
structure, where phosphates form the helical core with the bases pointing outwards, was failed to show
the correct structure of DNA (Watson 54).
It was Franklin s diffraction photograph Photo 51 that finally showed the helical structure of DNA to
Watson and Crick. The photo that had been crystallized under moist conditions shows a fuzzy X in the
middle of the molecule with a helical structure. She also found out that DNA exists in two different
forms, A and B. A is drier crystal in that contain 20 percent water, whereas B is less ordered and fully
hydrated (NOVA). However, the mistake that Franklin made was that she thought X rays were the
only way to find the structure of DNA (Watson 69). She thought making models of DNA and playing
with them were not that efficient and were a waste of time (Watson 69). In addition, she also thought
the method of Watson and Crick using light beam to take a picture of DNA and calculating the lines
was ineffective because she thought calculations take too long (NOVA). Also, in Photo 51, Franklin
did not notice about the helical structure and how the nitrogenous bases are paired (Elkin 44). If she
thought of different methods

Case Study Of Dominos
1. Economies of scale: Dominos is also able to use its large buying power to hedge better costs when
commodity prices fluctuate, it also gives it a better bargaining power with suppliers.
Even at a master franchisee level, Dominos has been able to standardize and centralize the supply
chain services. Taking the UK‟s supply chain as an example, we look at the country level supply chain
works:
1. All the raw materials and food stuffs (dough, ingredients) are prepared at a central commissary in
the UK located at Milton Keynes.
2. The commissary, then supplies to distribution centers which are located in Milton Keynes, Penrith
and Nass.
3. The distribution centers then supply to the individual stores once in 3 days (to ensure a JIT

The Major Characters Of Responsibility In A Tale Of Two...
Whether it is studying for a difficult project, running from danger, or working to hit a goal at a certain
time, perseverance is necessary to help one carry himself or herself. Sometimes it stands for
something simple. Sometimes it means life, death, or even self worth. Thus, perseverance can be
defined as someone or something trying to complete a task no matter the degree of challenge or
obstacles. Perseverance is a trait shared by a few of the major characters in the stories, A Tale of Two
Cities and Les Miserables including the protagonists and antagonists.
Dr. Manette shows perseverance in many ways in the story, A Tale of Two Cities. Charles Darnay, the
own nephew of the Marquis St. Evremond who banished him to the Bastille for eighteen years, tries to
marry his daughter by making promises with Dr. Manette. This shows that he is a man who displays
great perseverance when selecting the best husband for his daughter, one that will make her happy. He
also exhibits great perseverance when Darnay gets put on trial many times and Dr. Manette tries to
prove his innocence using many resources. Lastly, he shows perseverance when he tries to work
through his multiple relapses. These are times in which he almost seems lifeless and mechanical. Of
the many representations of Dr. Manette s relapses, his situation with Darnay marrying Lucie is
similar to Cosette s love for Marius and the approval of her father in a few aspects.
Jean Valjean shows perseverance in a way in

Globalization And Globalisation
Choose an example from block 1 of how individuals are influenced. Which has a bigger influence on
individuals: globalisation or your chosen example from block 1 ?
Globalisation and immigration a socio political imbalance.
In this essay we are going to look at globalisation and immigration with the aim to see which has the
biggest impact on individuals. We shall examine what globalisation is and what effects it has on trade,
government and people. We will also look at immigration, the push and pull factors and what
immigration means to individuals depending on which part of the world they are leaving behind. We
will look at an illegal immigrants perspective in contrast to someone who is already a citizen.
Globalisation refers to the apparently increasing exchange of goods, raw material, information, people
and money between parts of the world that have been geographically and culturally separated until
now . (The Open University, 2013, Block 4 , p13). Advancements in transportation and
communication technology have created a a global market for consumers anywhere in the world.
Whether it be through an internet connection at home or a superstore in the high street selling produce
from groceries, clothing and electrical, people can now purchase goods from any country in the world
who participate in the free market.
Immigration is the intent of an individual and/or their family to leave their country of origin to set up

What Is James Paul Gee Identity As An Analytical Lens For...
In the article Identity as an Analytical Lens for Research in Education James Paul Gee builds up his
thesis based on the idea of a person being identified in a certain setting, can change at every instant,
and in every context, and is controversial and never static. Gee is trying to infer the idea that the
dynamicity of one s identity is very dependent on the reaction to a certain encounter in a particular
circumstance. Gee mentioned the point that identity is ambiguous and unstable. In my opinion the
society is our identity constructor. And the variance of its element (i.e. human being) can make it
easily unstable. Every person has identity which is made up of different variables, contributed by the
society. Being the dependent

Dissociative Disorders And The Most Controversial Disorders

Dissociative Disorders
Dissociative disorders are one of the most controversial disorders that exist. It is often argued that the
disorder does not actually exist and that people are over diagnosed. Dissociative disorders is a type of
psychological disorder that involve a sudden loss of memory of change in identity due to the
dissociation (separation) of the individual s conscious awareness from previous memories and
thoughts. A common example of a dissociation is when an individual daydreams and becomes
unaware of the passage of time. However, this is just a very mild case of dissociation and is normal to
experience. The NAMI (National Alliance on Medical Health) declares that approximately half of
Americans have experienced a dissociative episode in their life but only two percent of those cases are
severe enough to meet the full criteria of chronic episodes. This disorder is more often found in
women rather than men.
There are three main types of dissociative disorders along with a fourth type that is less often
categorized. The types of dissociative disorders are dissociative amnesia, dissociative fugue,
dissociative identity disorder (DID), and depersonalization or derealization. Dissociative amnesia is
characterized by extreme memory loss that is caused by extensive psychological stress. Individuals
with dissociative amnesia can easily remember everyday tasks and procedural memories but they are
unable to remember their own identity and

Dna Isolation Research Paper
DNA Isolation, Quantification, and Visualization
DNA isolation is a process of DNA purification through physical and chemical means. DNA was
protected within the nuclear membrane of B. rapa, which was surrounded by a cell membrane and cell
wall. Mechanical and chemical lysis of the cell was necessary to break open the cells and solubilize
the membranes to isolate the DNA. Mechanical lysis, which consisted of grinding the leaves with a
pestle, broke down the cell wall. Chemical lysis, through the use of lysis solution, broke down the
lipid base membranes. The lysate was placed inside the Zymo spin IV spin filter to remove chunks of
debris from the solubilized cell components. A binding buffer was added to the collection tube that
held DNA,

Analysis Of Fences By August Wilson
All people deal with emotions in everyday life and most will have problems controlling their emotions
at some point in time. However, when emotions get out of hand people can start having problems in
their daily life. In August Wilson s play Fences, he uses his piece to explain that someone unable to
control their actions caused by selfish, hatred, or angry emotions will cause issues in one s personal
life, general decisions, and in family life. Wilson hopes to target people who can t control their
emotions and wishes to prevent the negative effects of uncontrolled actions caused by negative
emotion. The inability to control one s emotions can harm their friends, decision making, and family.
Wilson main reason of writing the play is to show the audience that uncontrolled emotion can be
harmful in one s life. In Wilson s play, he uses the character Troy, a man who is a married man with a
rough history and has anger issues. Troy personal life is heavily influenced by his emotion especially
the anger from his past. Troy spends the majority of the play stating that he was unable to play
baseball due to his race even though he claims to be better than the majority of players playing at the
time. All through the play, Troy told Rose his wife, Cory, and Bano about how if he was white he
would be a professional baseball player and how his life would be better (1.1.80 90). The main reason
Wilson has Troy behave that way is to show how being angry in the past will hurt one s

Happiness In Aldous Huxley s Brave New World
The ultimate goal of humans is to live a life of happiness; but at what cost would you consider
accepting to be happy? Are we truly happy when we are provided with food, clothing, shelter, and
gainful employment, the basic necessities of life; or are we only happy when we live a life full of
luxuries and excess? In Book 1 of Thomas More s Utopia, anyone that is caught stealing suffers the
consequence of being put to death, including theft of a loaf of bread to survive starvation. Thieves
suffered the same punishment as murders by being put to death for their crime. The character Raphael
Hythloday defends being against capital punishment for thieves by stating If theft carries the same
penalty as murder, the thief will be encouraged to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Utopia, the families live in groups of about 10 to 16 adults and the male elder of the household is
the leader. The male members stay in the household they were born into; women who marry, move
into their husband s household. Wives are subject to their husbands, children to their parents, and
generally the younger to their elders (More, 2011, p. 50). The children are raised and nursed by their
mother unless they become ill or die; a nurse then raises the child as their own if the mother is unable
to. Utopia relies on balance of family members within each household; if there are too many members
in one family, they may be moved to another household that doesn t have as many members. Elders
are given the highest respect; they are served the best food at mealtime and may share their delicacies
with others if they desire to. Thus due respect is paid to seniority, yet everyone enjoys some of the
benefits (More, 2011, p. 52). Husband and wives are monogamous, and divorce is only allowed by
mutual consent if both parties are unable to get along and they wish to find another partner; the
senators and their wives must approve their

Advertising Is A Major Part Of Our Culture
Advertising is a major part of our culture/society; it surrounds us wherever we go. Yet a lot of people
don t realize the underlying messages, and the stark differences between ads aimed at men and
women. It s most certainly different when compared to the ads from the
1950 s, however when we think about how far we ve come as a society it s astounding that advertisers
still play towards these generalizations/misconceptions about gender roles. In some cases they re
reversing the roles to be inclusive and following the current trends, but at the same time there are ads
that promote those same stereotypes that have been around for decades.

Of course the same company makes lotion ads for women as well. This ad showcases a woman getting
dressed, presumably after putting lotion on, her eyes looking off at something/someone in the
distance. It could have just shown her putting lotion on her legs, but it has to show her in her bra and
underwear to say that women put lotion all over their bodies. It doesn t have to be hard work to
maintain soft skin, but it should be maintained at all times, even when clothes are being put on, just in
case they re going to be taken off later. Some psychologists say that the circuit from eyes to brain to
genitals is a quicker trip for men than for women (187). If that s true then why is a woman s lotion ad
displaying a woman in her undergarments? Perhaps in some way it s telling men to buy their partner
this lotion because she ll have to be nearly naked to put it on. Even when an ad is geared towards
women, it still plays on the needs/desires of men. As John Berger states; Men act and women appear
(208). That is the case in most ads, but in each ad the man and woman are in a state of movement,
however there are major differences. This Nivea ad for men, and several others, only shows the face as
if that s the only place that they need to put lotion. Whereas the ad geared towards women shows her

The Differences and Similarities of the Ottoman Empire and...
While taking the class of Early Modern European History there was two states that really stuck out
and peaked my interest the most. They were the Ottoman Empire and Early Modern Europe. If you
compare and contrast both the Ottoman Empire and Early Modern Europe during the 16th Century
through the 18th Century, you will see that there are a number of similarities as well as differences
when you look at the expansion of the states. You will also see many of these contrasts as well when
you look in terms of each states military and commerce. Although the Ottoman Empire existed before
the 16th century and continued to exist past the 18th century and in great decline until the early 20th
century, when looking at the state as a whole the time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, there is such a thing called supply and demand, and the consumer chooses what is needed or
wanted. This article also signified the evolution of the English economy of moving away of
mercantilism capitalism. Both the articles had a significant impact on the societies of each state.
Perhaps the greatest comparisons can be made in how the two states expanded, grew, and changed
point of view within the time period. The second comparison point would be what role religion played
in to the time period, with the scope of the protestant uprising in the late 15th century and the change
in what citizens perceived the role of god and religion in society. Also important with this is the role
that the Millet system played within the Ottoman Empire specifically when overtaking new lands and
expanding. The third comparison point revolves around the economy and taxation habits of both
states, looking closely at the mercantile, trade, Industrial Revolution, and taxation. Lastly, you can
also look at the fall or change of both great states through important events and how those events
shaped their futures in many ways. Though the end of the 18th century and the Battle of Vienna didn t
mark the end of the Ottoman Empire, it did note the start to the downfall of the great state. With the
same token, the French Revolution marked another change and progression from Early Modern
Europe to

The Distance The Amino Acid Traveled From The Origin
The data that was collected throughout the experiment shows the distance the amino acid traveled
from the origin. This data was used to calculate the retardation factor also known as the Rf value; the
distance that the spot traveled divided by the distance the solvent traveled. Based off of our data, the
non polar amino acids show an upward linear trend in Rf as molecular weight increases. Conversely,
the more polar the amino acids are the greater the downward linear trend is seen, as shown in figure
1.3. Based off of the direction that the amino acids moved on the thin layer chromatography sheet we
can deduce that the hydrophobic molecules moved away from the solvent while the hydrophilic
molecules still moved but remained closer to the origin of the sheet. The Rf value can provide
evidence as to what the compound was. One way to fully authenticate the identity of a compound is to
run a TLC sheet side by side with the compound that you are trying to identify. You can identify a
substance if both compounds have the same Rf; they are likely identical substances. However, if their
Rf values differ they are not the same compounds. We were able to see this take place in our
experiment. As one can see from figure 1.3 D alanine and L alanine that have the same molecular
structure, but are just mirror images on of one another, both have the same Rf value.
Of course with any experiment there is room for error. One amino acid that our group noticed was that
glutamic acid did not

The Caribbean And C.l. R. James
The Caribbean and C.L.R. James
I was sitting on a beach in Jamaica reading a collection of C.L.R. James s occasional writings on
cricket (Grimshaw 1986). The place had once belonged to Errol Flynn. My daughter was playing on
the edge of the sea. James had been Neville Cardus s deputy as the Manchester Guardian s cricket
correspondent in the 1930s. I found myself reading about my father s heroes in the Lancashire cricket
team of that period as if it was today s sports news. I had been devouring everything I could by James
since I came to Jamaica to help establish a new graduate school for social science research. I knew
that he had lived in Lancashire when he left Trinidad for Britain. It occurred to me that we had lived in
the same places, the Caribbean, Britain, America, Africa in a different sequence, at different times and
with very different trajectories. Now, watching my daughter play on that exotic beach, with my father
s stories from childhood coming alive again, the gap between this old black man and myself was
collapsed into a single moment by the compelling immediacy of James s prose. Generation and racial
differences were erased in an epiphany of timeless connection. I felt compelled to meet him and so I
wrote the first and only fan letter of my life.

opportunity to improve our quality, total sales, reduce employee turnover, and to increase profits. Both
plants will remain open, with no plans to close either facility in the future. The current plan for the
merger does not entail any layoffs on the shop floor; the plan is to increase the headcount for the
company s current production needs and for future targets that are in the planning stages. There will be
some reorganizing of office personnel. However, there will be opportunities in other organizations
within the company for those involved in the reorganization to apply.
The central plant will be in Hiccup, MO where the sales team, research and development, and central

To Kill A Mockingbird Social Roles
The criticism brought on by social roles negatively impacts one s views on themselves and their
actions. Maycomb s strict social roles have lowered somes self esteem and has trapped people in a
certain personality or financial stance. These social roles can get in a person s head and change their
views and actions in result. An example of this is shown at the school where Scout explains to Miss
Caroline about the Ewells, He s one of the Ewell s...They come the first day every year and then they
leave... You re supposed to mark em absent the rest of the year (27). The Ewells have always left the

When a child is stereotyped as trash just because of their families wealth, it obviously takes a toll on
them mentally and physically. Dolphus Raymond is often looked at as one who does not care about
social roles and goes against them, but his actions are very much affected by them. This is his
response to when Scout asks him why he drinks cola out of that sack, It helps folks latch onto a
reason, when I come to town, which is seldom, if I weave a little and drink out of this sack, folks can
say Dolphus Raymond s in clutches of whiskey that s why he won t change his ways, he can t help

he is a drunk so he can escape cruelty because he is too afraid to tempt the strict norms of Maycomb.
The criticism these characters have been through can affect their actions and confidence. Each
character, Burris Ewell, Walter Cunningham and Dolphus Raymond, are all in different situations but
all have had a negative experience with social roles. Yet, an individual s experience with social roles

The Great Man Theory Of Leadership Essay
Leadership Theories To comprehend the part of a leader, we should first comprehend being a leader.
Through research, I ve discovered that there are a wide range of hypotheses in regards to leadership.
For this specific task, I ve investigated The Great Man Theory of Leadership, The Trait Theory of
Leadership and The Role Theory of Leadership.
The Great Man Theory of Leadership The Great Man Theory of Leadership came in the mid
nineteenth century. Advanced by Thomas Carlyle, The Great Man Theory of Leadership
fundamentally underpins the possibility that awesome leaders are conceived not made. As indicated by
the site www.leadership central.com, this specific hypothesis sees extraordinary pioneers as the
individuals who are foreordained by birth to wind up a leader. The conviction was that extraordinary
leaders will rise when gone up against with the proper circumstance. Carlyle, an essayist and
instructor, promoted this hypothesis in his book On Heroes, Hero Worship, and the Heroic in History .
Carlyle faced resistance from the English thinker Herbert Spencer. Spencer trusted that heroes are
basically the result of their times and their gallant activities, the aftereffect of social conditions.
The Trait Theory of Leadership The Trait Theory of Leadership came to fruition in the 1930s 1940s.
This hypothesis trusts that a man is either conceived or shows certain qualities that will permit them to
exceed expectations in a leadership position. Once more, as per

The Perceptions Of Black Males
The Perceptions of Black Males in College
Kwesi N. Luke
Liberty University
Abstract
African American males in higher education have captured the attention of researchers; sadly,
exhausted amount of research has focused primarily on the failing black male, while little has been
done to address the problem. This paper focuses on factors that influence the perceptions and self
esteem of African American males in higher education, and explore why their educational
achievements are overwhelmingly lower than any other racial/ethnic group. Specifically, this review
focuses on how research in education or the lack thereof has contributed to this particular issue. The
review of literature in this paper leads to two research questions: (1) What efforts if any have been
directed to address the negative outcomes of black males in higher education? (2) What other external
factors have prevented black males from achieving their objectives at a lower rate than any other
racial or ethnic group? The following 10 reviews attempt to answer the above questions.
Keywords: Black males in higher education, failing black males, Education attainment among black
men, Scholarly journals on black men in education, why black men fail, external factors affecting
black males in education.

Why Don t Boys Play With Dolls Essay
The feminist movement has been trying to change the idea of traditional sex roles and stereotypes in
society for decades, but maybe the issue relies on society instead of biological differences. While
these biological differences and research show that there are small differences in cognitive brain
activity between the sexes, they also propose a theory that this is the way it s supposed to be (Pollitt
2549). Although these differences exist it does not mean that sexes should have permanently assigned
roles in society. Katha Pollitt, a feminist author and high profile activist wrote the essay Why Don t
Boys Play With Dolls, published in 1995 in The New York Times Magazine. In the essay, she argues
that biological determinism may reassure some adults about their present, but it is feminism, the
ideology of flexible and converging sex roles, that fits our children s future (2549). Pollitt raises
important ethical problems in her essay, gender roles and stereotyping. Throughout her essay she
provides several claims to her argument and builds credibility with her audience by using rhetorical
strategies. However, the argument also exhibits some minor flaws, which could in return limit its
persuasiveness. This analysis will identify Pollitt s three main claims and the evidence she uses to
support them. I argue that overall Pollitt provides an effective argument by building her credibility and
expanding her audience with the use of rhetorical strategies, such as ethos, pathos,

Importance Of Passions In Education
Follow your passions. Don t listen to your parents. Follow what you are most passionate about. Syed
Akbaruddin (The permanent United Nations delegate to India) said this at an interview my student
group conducted. I am a Humanities and Communication student and this is my third year in the
program. This means that I explore the subjects I enjoy the most, deeper than other subjects. I have a
passion for photography, writing, and other forms of art and communication. Because of this, I am not
able to choose a favorite subject, especially since my classes are so diverse. The way I interact and
study prove how I am eligible for this program Although my classes are different, they do have a few
similarities. They all require being able to work with others and communication skills. I am a person
that can make friends easily. I have made many friends around the world because of the stories I
publish online. This is because I listen to and respect others. This is also because I am very good in
communicating. I have won many prizes in debate and speech in Malayalam (an Indian language) and
English. During the summer of the seventh grade, I went to a model Untied Nation camp in
Georgetown University that focused on speech and met many people from around the country.
Together, we worked during simulations and created treaties during caucuses. I was also given a
scholarship for a speech workshop called Young Speaker s Club. My instructor there is the one to

Hero s Journey And Characteristics
Throughout this semester, we mainly discussed the hero s journey and characteristics as an ancient
tale, such as in Beowulf and Grendel. But as we also saw, the hero s potential is present in everyone
with no regard of times. As such, when studying modern stories, we can see that aspects of hero s
journey are still a major theme. In The Matrix, Neo, an average hacker, who might not be seen as a
hero in the first place will soon show all characteristics to become one. As a result we would study in
this paper how The Matrix as a modern tale with aspects of the hero s journey, heroes archetypes as
well as mythical themes, can be considered as a modern example of a hero s tale. Part I: The Matrix,
Plot Summary The Matrix is a movie based on the life of a computer programmer named Mr.
Anderson during the day and hacker called Neo at night, who will soon be embarked in a journey to
save mankind. The story begins when we see Neo asleep in front of his computer in which a program
runs automatic researches on another hacker called Morpheus. As the program searches for
information, the screen goes black and messages can be seen on the screen telling Neo to wake up and
to follow the white rabbit. As he fully wakes up, someone knocks on the door and a girl with a white
rabbit tattoo shows up. Neo decides then to follow the girl to a nightclub where he met Trinity. After
his encounter, Neo wakes up in his bed as all of this was a dream. Later on, when at work, Mr.

Total Compensation Methods Paper
Total Compensation Methods Paper The purpose of this paper is to provide an analytical overview of
compensation strategies within organizations. First, an analysis of the impact of various compensation
methods and benefit programs on employees and organizations will be discussed followed by how
salary and benefit administration strategies relate to organizational culture and performance. What are
compensation and benefit strategies? Compensation and benefit strategies are ways that organizations
can use pay and benefits to recognize and reward employees contributions to the organization s
success. (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, and Wright, 2004) Some examples are wage and salary

Although an employee does not need to show proof of an employer being negligent, the employee will
lose workers compensation benefits if the injury is self inflected.
The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is a federal law requiring organizations with 50 or more
employees to provide up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave after childbirth or adoption, to care for seriously
ill family members, or for an employee s own serious illness. (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, and Wright,
2004) FMLA protects the employee from losing their job because of one of the listed criteria above.
Although some compensation and benefit methods are required by law, there are benefits that
employees have come to expect like medical benefits, retirement plans, and paid leave. A company
that offers such benefits is more appealing to a potential employee when searching for a job. In most
companies, medical, dental, and vision plans are a shared cost and the most important benefit to an
employee. Most companies that offer these types of benefits will receive a break in cost due to the
number of employees that they are covering. (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, and Wright, 2004) This
benefits the employee by taking some of the financial burden off of expensive premiums. Medical
benefits also ensure the wellness of employees allowing them to continue his or her job with a
company so that the company continues to

During the 19th century, America was going through an important transition. The nation was dealing
with the aftermath of the civil war and the following reconstruction of the South. The Reconstruction
period was the precursor to the period deemed the Gilded Age . The nation saw economic growth and
the creation of the mass market. The rise of industrialization and transition to urban living were some
of the defining moments of this period. However, the most defining idea of the Gilded Age is Reform:

Violent Lynchings were also a method used to show dominance and whites growing fear of change.
Prior, to the Gilded Age or the Age of Reform, violence towards African Americans, was widely
committed and accepted. Since the violence was being committed against then slaves, the violence
was legal. Ironically, whites were less violent to slaves as they were valuable. Many African
Americans, were growing weary of this unjust treatment, but only a few dared to speak out publically.

the Lynchings: false sexual assault allegations against white women and protecting white

Watching A National Football Soccer
Introduction In 2013, 205 million unique viewers tuned in to watch a National Football League game
at some point. Games were broadcast to over 80 percent of homes with a television in the United
States, and twenty two games over the course of the season were watched by at least 25 million
viewers, individually. Since 2003, average viewership of the NFL has risen 31%, and in 2013 NFL
games accounted for 46 of the 50 most watched telecasts of the fall for viewers 18 59 (Bibel). The
point is clear: while it may not be a problem, the United States very clearly has a football obsession.
The obsession is so much so that more Americans list the NFL as their favorite sport than the National
Hockey League, Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association combined (Rovell).
Now, it is not unusual for certain countries to hold an association with a certain sport. Brazil, most
notably, loves its soccer. New Zealanders love rugby, and Canadians love hockey. These associations
make sense, and sports provide for many positive cultural pillars that exist across the world today. At a
base level, the NFL does that for Americans as well. It provides an opportunity for families to get
together on Sundays, or for old friends to get together at the bar, or for a great way to wrap up a
Thanksgiving meal (2013 s Thanksgiving Day game was the most highly viewed show of the fall)
(Bibel). However, when analyzed at a deeper level, more alarming observations can be made. For
instance,

There is no conclusive evidence for what caused the collapse of the Mayan civilization during the
Classic Era. There are several historical theories supported by the historical evidence that is available.
Two of these claims are climate change based upon deforestation + drought and society s response to
environmental problems producing waves of decline exacerbated by social, political, and warfare

Deforestation + drought claims that the existing drought condition was worsened by the deforestation

Rhetorism In Sons And Lovers
According to Paul de Man, every text presents a language problem that underlies and determines the
interpretation of that text. This is a problem of whether the text should be taken literally or figuratively
(rhetority or figurality) and also because all poems/texts have multiplicity of meanings, value and
appeal. In order to resolve this language problem, there is the need to create a context which will help
in the interpretation of the text. Thus, the linguistic texture of the text involve, all the works of the
author or writer in question, the genre of the text as well the biography of the writer can be considered
as a means of interpreting the text. In this deconstructive interpretation of D.H. Lawrence s Sons and
Lovers , a biographical context has been created in an attempt to analyse the text by outlining and
matching up incidents and/or events, and characters in the novel which are projections of real life
events and people in the life of the author himself. Indeed, there are so many things in Sons and

breaching the agreement. This paper will give an example of an apartment lease contract which I,
Ivory Polk have entered into with Chelsea 88 Apartments. I will provide some specific contractual
details within the contract. I will also include the five essential elements of an enforceable contract

An offer is a request from one party to another to begin a contractual obligation. An offer also
indicates a desire to be tied in by the agreement with the acceptor. An acceptance is to agree to the
conditions set forth in the contract. The action of acceptance produces the contact. We then need to
have consideration which has to be received as stated in the contract. Consideration is the notion of
legal value which can be in the form of money, services, or items, just to name a few. Furthermore, we
have legality which means all aspects of the contract must be legal. The legality of the contract must
be consistent with the law. According to FindLaw s State Laws, a website of state specific laws, When
someone agrees to rent or lease a property, they sign a lease or rental agreement outlining the terms of
the agreement. It is a legally binding contract between the tenant and the landlord that details the
rights and responsibilities of each party. When either party violates the terms of a valid rental
agreement, then the aggrieved party may seek relief in civil court (2016, para. 1). This statement
identifies the importance of legality of a contract and specifies possible remedies. The last element
needed for an enforceable contract is capacity. Both parties must have the legal capacity to be tied into
a contract which includes sound mind and age appropriate. It is important that both parties have the
capacity to understand the

Difference between Community Service and Volunteering
Volunteers are not paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless. Sherry
Anderson (Volunteering Quotes: Finest Quotes).
On average, when people think about community service, they assume that volunteering is just hours
we need to be able to graduate and that is it. Community service is more than just hours; community
service is based on the acts performed by someone with the purpose of helping or bringing benefits to
his or her community. People frequently compare community service as a punishment since it is often
offered to small time offenders as an alternative to fines or jail time. However, community service is
the vital force to many communities since they depend on the service made by the volunteers ... Show

Volunteering in your community helps solve many dilemmas in your community that descend through
the eyes of government and social agencies (Everything you ever wanted to know about volunteering).
Discussing about volunteering to teenagers should be the first step for a better life, since teenagers are
the future of tomorrow and they will leave a mark from yesterday. Volunteering has been such an
important matter, that schools in many countries around the world established that 12th grade students
will need certain hours of community service in order to graduate. But the frequent answers all the
schools are getting are Why do I need to volunteer? I have better things to do! What people are
forgetting is that each one of them is part of a community, a community that is not perfect and that the
government sometimes forgets about their problems or needs, because obviously the government
needs to take care of other things that require more attention. People are not only helping others, they
are also helping themselves (Volunteering). Volunteering is not a new subject now, but people did not
perceive it before because as time goes by, volunteering is becoming more and more popular since
each year more people volunteer. Volunteering began around the early 19th century since America was
experimenting with the Great Awakening. The Great Awakening was a period in which
the importance of the church was slowly dying and instead the

Problems Associated With Pipe Breaks
The problems associated with pipe breaks are economic, reduce reliability and reduce water quality.
The cost of replacing or repairing a pipe can be split into capital costs (supplying and laying the new
pipe), maintenance costs (repairing and preventing failure in the system), operating costs (electricity
and filtering costs) and damage costs (property damage, inconvenience, loss of amenity, health risks
and environmental costs). (Dandy Engelhardt, 2001) All of these costs can be difficult to accurately
predict, which may be necessary when consulting with management about whether or not to replace a
pipe. Pipe bursts in commercial areas and along main roads also have higher failure costs as the
interruption the failure will have on the traffic and potential 3rd party damage will be greater. A
rational decision needs to be made into at what point it is more cost effective to replace the pipe than
letting water run out of the cracks. The cost of a repair = crew+ equipment+ sleeve + repaving +
overhead costs. Figure 2 Cost breakdown of repairing pipes (in US dollars) While the above figure
gives a rough estimate of what each portion of the repair will cost, the variables were calculated in
1982 in America, and protocols may have changed since then, or be different in New Zealand than it
was in America at the time of the study. However, this was the only literature available that considered
breaking down the cost of repair. Figure 3 Repair and Replacement Costs

Theme Of Prohibition In The Great Gatsby
One of the things going on in the novel, The Great Gatsby, is the era of prohibition. It was a time
where liquor was outlawed in America. People believed it was a sin and caused a lot of problems in
the home of these drinkers. This caused lots of unrest in the U.S. when prohibition was really enforced
in the 1920 s. Prohibition was the catalyst that started it all. Soon after, a lot of people took up
organized crime in the form of bootlegging. This made a lot of places difficult to live due to the
increase of corrupt officials. In 1873 a group called the Woman Crusade. It was a group of American

The Dynamics of Brice Family
Brice Family Dynamics
Presenting Problems Overall, the Brice family has some clear issues that are causing stress for
everyone, including their adolescent daughter Claudia. The family did not believe in the power of
family therapy, yet they had little places to turn to in response to Claudia s growing anger problems.
They had tried therapy before, but to no avail. We are introduced to their problems both from a
description of the anger between each other and their own explanations of what is going on. Their son
Don is absent, both literally and figuratively, showing how he tends to avoid the overall family
struggles. Claudia s role in the family dynamic was described early on by her mother, yet this
explanation was done in a very isolating way for Claudia. Her mother explained her strange ideas, but
that only invoked a strong and angry reaction from Claudia herself. In fact, the two seemed to feed off
one another in terms of their anger. It is clear that the main issues were a discrepancy between what
Claudia wanted her life to be like and the heightened rules and expectations her family was imposing
on her. Mother and daughter continuously engaged in fighting, clearly not seeing each others point of
view, but too caught up in their own emotional reactions regarding the situation. The fact that Don
wasn t present just put more highlight on Claudia, and showed how the family viewed her as the
problem, not taking responsibility for it themselves. This was felt by

Adults And The Influence Of Empathy In Adults
As with many other skills, empathy is a learned skill that requires an awareness that other people
think, feel, and behave in ways that are both similar and different from one s self, or put simply, being
able to relate to and understand what another person is experiencing or feeling (McDonald Messinger,
2011). One of the first experiences that people have with empathy frequently appears as a baby when
we hear another infant cry (Szalavitz, 2010). Other research has shown that infants not only favor
adults who appear to be more helpful, but they also tend to offer voluntary help to adults who appear
to be having difficulties when reaching for something (Szalavitz, 2010). Therefore, according to this
research, it might be suggested that whether

The two most common ways of execution is lethal injection and the electric chair. The electric chair is

to die. At the end of the nineteenth century electricity started to become more effective. For more than

Harold Pinter´s Among the Hidden and the Theme of Propaganda
It s so easy for propaganda to work, and dissent to be mocked, believes Harold Pinter, Nobel Prize
winning English playwright, screenwriter, director and actor. Various propaganda from the totalitarian
government of Among the Hidden will affect citizens, baron or farmer. Either way, there will be
attempts to voice other sides of the story. The government is spreading lies about the population
police; their deceptive ways will change citizen s lives.
Luke is the third child of a farmer s family, and propaganda deeply interfered with his life. Ever since
he was a toddler, he was obliged to a strict set of rules from his paranoid parents. Then they started
running all that on TV about the Population Police, how the Population Police had ways of finding out
everything, how they d do anything to enforce the law... And your dad started hearing rumors in town,
about other babies... (10 11) Luke s mother replied to his questioning. His mother was telling him
about the government s propaganda, the propaganda they had believed. Luke s parents fell right into
the government s trap of lies. Therefore, Luke was forbidden from watching TV, using the computer,
or calling someone on the phone, blocking him from the outside world. Being a farmer s third child
practically meant Luke was clueless when it came to real life. The doctrines of the government
changed Luke s life.

Softball For Many People Is The Way Of Life, We Eat,...
Softball for many people is the way of life, we eat, sleep, and play softball. Softball is a great sport for
a lot of girls that want to be active and even stay out of trouble. Softball can be great for starting
conversation because on the field you always have to talk, so your teammates now what is going on

Sometimes a team full of friendships, is a team that s not ready for big the big game, or a team that
will be ready ever second for anything that could happen. A team like this will help each other
improve on the simple things, like the perfect swing, or the perfect play. Friendship can win
championships, because everyone knows what your strong point is, and talk to you when you aren t
trying that hard. And when you know how to talk with everyone they will soon find out how important
this is for everyone. And want to help win the championship for the ones that want it most. At the end
of each day its more than a friendship, it s more like a family. Everyone comes together at the end of

  • 5. The Gold Of The Bronze Style In China, bronze was often employed with ritual vessels, and this can be best seen with a comparison between an eleventh century B.C.E. you vessel and a fourth century hu vessel that were standard in this time period. These pieces were in high demand during this period from feudal dignitaries starting during the Shang period. They served the purpose of holding wine for ritual ceremonies. The hu especially acted as a vessel for diluting wine with water. While the hu vessel was popular in the Eastern Zhou territory, the you vessel was most frequently used during the early Western Zhou territory. The you ritual wine vessel was common for its time period as it, embodies the principal elements that make up the Shang bronze style the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was common during this period, as they represented as zoomorphic masks, where humans are made to look like animals. Around the birds, the artist designed geometric images to fill in the space. In order to separate the images in the background of the you, the artist incorporates bands. This creates a symmetrical layout of the different images around the vessel, as they repeat. The animal motifs outside of the background also repeat symmetrically, as you circle the you. While the hu vessel was made around seven centuries later, it features similar decorations as the you vessel. The pictorial representations also follow a band structure. Although the majority of the bands are filled with geometric designs, one band repeats second from the top and second from the bottom and it features birds. These birds are less naturalistic than ones featured in the you vessel, but they serve a stylistic purpose. At this time, the hunt is also a characteristic subject of some bronze vessels of the late Zhou period. Often it is less pictorially handled, as on vessels with panels of rather geometric, static hunting scenes in low relief silhouette. Here the hunt is represented with the birds depicted in the bands. This could have acted as a significant reference food sacrifices in rituals. An animal s beak also appears around the handle of the ritual vessel. Discovery Of Dna Yu Sun Park Dr. Murphy Lab section 4 Discovery of DNA double helix: Related to both Scientific and Humane Aspects DNA, the molecule of life that carries genetic information in humans and almost all other organisms, has been considered as one of the greatest discoveries until now. If DNA could not have been discovered, we would not be able to do or test numerous things such as paternity test and pathological confirmation. There are four main scientists who contributed their lives, knowledge, and ambitions to find out the DNA double helix, a DNA molecule that has two strands winding around each other: James Watson, Francis Crick, Maurice Wilkins, and Rosalind Franklin. In 1952, Linus Pauling, who was eager to know the shape of DNA, had published a paper about his proposal of a triple helical structure for DNA (Watson 54). Following Pauling, Watson and Crick also worked on the triple helical model, but according to the X ray data, the theory for the triple helical structure, where phosphates form the helical core with the bases pointing outwards, was failed to show the correct structure of DNA (Watson 54). It was Franklin s diffraction photograph Photo 51 that finally showed the helical structure of DNA to Watson and Crick. The photo that had been crystallized under moist conditions shows a fuzzy X in the middle of the molecule with a helical structure. She also found out that DNA exists in two different forms, A and B. A is drier crystal in that contain 20 percent water, whereas B is less ordered and fully hydrated (NOVA). However, the mistake that Franklin made was that she thought X rays were the only way to find the structure of DNA (Watson 69). She thought making models of DNA and playing with them were not that efficient and were a waste of time (Watson 69). In addition, she also thought the method of Watson and Crick using light beam to take a picture of DNA and calculating the lines was ineffective because she thought calculations take too long (NOVA). Also, in Photo 51, Franklin did not notice about the helical structure and how the nitrogenous bases are paired (Elkin 44). If she thought of different methods ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Major Characters Of Responsibility In A Tale Of Two... Whether it is studying for a difficult project, running from danger, or working to hit a goal at a certain time, perseverance is necessary to help one carry himself or herself. Sometimes it stands for something simple. Sometimes it means life, death, or even self worth. Thus, perseverance can be defined as someone or something trying to complete a task no matter the degree of challenge or obstacles. Perseverance is a trait shared by a few of the major characters in the stories, A Tale of Two Cities and Les Miserables including the protagonists and antagonists. Dr. Manette shows perseverance in many ways in the story, A Tale of Two Cities. Charles Darnay, the own nephew of the Marquis St. Evremond who banished him to the Bastille for eighteen years, tries to marry his daughter by making promises with Dr. Manette. This shows that he is a man who displays great perseverance when selecting the best husband for his daughter, one that will make her happy. He also exhibits great perseverance when Darnay gets put on trial many times and Dr. Manette tries to prove his innocence using many resources. • 9. Globalization And Globalisation Choose an example from block 1 of how individuals are influenced. Which has a bigger influence on individuals: globalisation or your chosen example from block 1 ? Globalisation and immigration a socio political imbalance. In this essay we are going to look at globalisation and immigration with the aim to see which has the biggest impact on individuals. We shall examine what globalisation is and what effects it has on trade, government and people. We will also look at immigration, the push and pull factors and what immigration means to individuals depending on which part of the world they are leaving behind. We will look at an illegal immigrants perspective in contrast to someone who is already a citizen. Globalisation refers to the apparently increasing exchange of goods, raw material, information, people and money between parts of the world that have been geographically and culturally separated until now . (The Open University, 2013, Block 4 , p13). Advancements in transportation and communication technology have created a a global market for consumers anywhere in the world. Whether it be through an internet connection at home or a superstore in the high street selling produce from groceries, clothing and electrical, people can now purchase goods from any country in the world who participate in the free market. In the article Identity as an Analytical Lens for Research in Education James Paul Gee builds up his thesis based on the idea of a person being identified in a certain setting, can change at every instant, and in every context, and is controversial and never static. Gee is trying to infer the idea that the dynamicity of one s identity is very dependent on the reaction to a certain encounter in a particular circumstance. Gee mentioned the point that identity is ambiguous and unstable. In my opinion the society is our identity constructor. And the variance of its element (i.e. human being) can make it easily unstable. Every person has identity which is made up of different variables, contributed by the society. Being the dependent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Dissociative Disorders And The Most Controversial Disorders Mai Nguyen PSYC 1 Dec. 11, 2015 Dissociative Disorders Dissociative disorders are one of the most controversial disorders that exist. It is often argued that the disorder does not actually exist and that people are over diagnosed. Dissociative disorders is a type of psychological disorder that involve a sudden loss of memory of change in identity due to the dissociation (separation) of the individual s conscious awareness from previous memories and thoughts. A common example of a dissociation is when an individual daydreams and becomes unaware of the passage of time. However, this is just a very mild case of dissociation and is normal to experience. The NAMI (National Alliance on Medical Health) declares that approximately half of Americans have experienced a dissociative episode in their life but only two percent of those cases are severe enough to meet the full criteria of chronic episodes. This disorder is more often found in women rather than men. There are three main types of dissociative disorders along with a fourth type that is less often categorized. The types of dissociative disorders are dissociative amnesia, dissociative fugue, dissociative identity disorder (DID), and depersonalization or derealization. Dissociative amnesia is characterized by extreme memory loss that is caused by extensive psychological stress. Individuals with dissociative amnesia can easily remember everyday tasks and procedural memories but they are unable to remember their own identity and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

DNA was protected within the nuclear membrane of B. rapa, which was surrounded by a cell membrane and cell wall. Mechanical and chemical lysis of the cell was necessary to break open the cells and solubilize the membranes to isolate the DNA. Mechanical lysis, which consisted of grinding the leaves with a pestle, broke down the cell wall. Chemical lysis, through the use of lysis solution, broke down the lipid base membranes. The lysate was placed inside the Zymo spin IV spin filter to remove chunks of debris from the solubilized cell components. A binding buffer was added to the collection tube that held DNA, ... • 13. Analysis Of Fences By August Wilson All people deal with emotions in everyday life and most will have problems controlling their emotions at some point in time. However, when emotions get out of hand people can start having problems in their daily life. In August Wilson s play Fences, he uses his piece to explain that someone unable to control their actions caused by selfish, hatred, or angry emotions will cause issues in one s personal life, general decisions, and in family life. Wilson hopes to target people who can t control their emotions and wishes to prevent the negative effects of uncontrolled actions caused by negative emotion. The inability to control one s emotions can harm their friends, decision making, and family. Wilson main reason of writing the play is to show the audience that uncontrolled emotion can be harmful in one s life. In Wilson s play, he uses the character Troy, a man who is a married man with a rough history and has anger issues. Troy personal life is heavily influenced by his emotion especially the anger from his past. Troy spends the majority of the play stating that he was unable to play baseball due to his race even though he claims to be better than the majority of players playing at the time. All through the play, Troy told Rose his wife, Cory, and Bano about how if he was white he would be a professional baseball player and how his life would be better (1.1.80 90). Perhaps the greatest comparisons can be made in how the two states expanded, grew, and changed point of view within the time period. The second comparison point would be what role religion played in to the time period, with the scope of the protestant uprising in the late 15th century and the change in what citizens perceived the role of god and religion in society. Also important with this is the role that the Millet system played within the Ottoman Empire specifically when overtaking new lands and expanding. The third comparison point revolves around the economy and taxation habits of both states, looking closely at the mercantile, trade, Industrial Revolution, and taxation. Lastly, you can also look at the fall or change of both great states through important events and how those events shaped their futures in many ways. • 17. The Distance The Amino Acid Traveled From The Origin The data that was collected throughout the experiment shows the distance the amino acid traveled from the origin. This data was used to calculate the retardation factor also known as the Rf value; the distance that the spot traveled divided by the distance the solvent traveled. Based off of our data, the non polar amino acids show an upward linear trend in Rf as molecular weight increases. Conversely, the more polar the amino acids are the greater the downward linear trend is seen, as shown in figure 1.3. Based off of the direction that the amino acids moved on the thin layer chromatography sheet we can deduce that the hydrophobic molecules moved away from the solvent while the hydrophilic molecules still moved but remained closer to the origin of the sheet. The Rf value can provide evidence as to what the compound was. One way to fully authenticate the identity of a compound is to run a TLC sheet side by side with the compound that you are trying to identify. You can identify a substance if both compounds have the same Rf; they are likely identical substances. However, if their Rf values differ they are not the same compounds. We were able to see this take place in our experiment. As one can see from figure 1.3 D alanine and L alanine that have the same molecular structure, but are just mirror images on of one another, both have the same Rf value. Of course with any experiment there is room for error. One amino acid that our group noticed was that glutamic acid did not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I found myself reading about my father s heroes in the Lancashire cricket team of that period as if it was today s sports news. Now, watching my daughter play on that exotic beach, with my father s stories from childhood coming alive again, the gap between this old black man and myself was collapsed into a single moment by the compelling immediacy of James s prose. Generation and racial differences were erased in an epiphany of timeless connection. I felt compelled to meet him and so I wrote the first and only fan letter of my life. Through research, I ve discovered that there are a wide range of hypotheses in regards to leadership. For this specific task, I ve investigated The Great Man Theory of Leadership, The Trait Theory of Leadership and The Role Theory of Leadership. The Great Man Theory of Leadership The Great Man Theory of Leadership came in the mid nineteenth century. Advanced by Thomas Carlyle, The Great Man Theory of Leadership fundamentally underpins the possibility that awesome leaders are conceived not made. As indicated by the site www.leadership central.com, this specific hypothesis sees extraordinary pioneers as the individuals who are foreordained by birth to wind up a leader. The conviction was that extraordinary leaders will rise when gone up against with the proper circumstance. Carlyle, an essayist and instructor, promoted this hypothesis in his book On Heroes, Hero Worship, and the Heroic in History . Carlyle faced resistance from the English thinker Herbert Spencer. Spencer trusted that heroes are basically the result of their times and their gallant activities, the aftereffect of social conditions. The Trait Theory of Leadership The Trait Theory of Leadership came to fruition in the 1930s 1940s. This hypothesis trusts that a man is either conceived or shows certain qualities that will permit them to exceed expectations in a leadership position. Once more, as per ... • 23. Why Don t Boys Play With Dolls Essay The feminist movement has been trying to change the idea of traditional sex roles and stereotypes in society for decades, but maybe the issue relies on society instead of biological differences. While these biological differences and research show that there are small differences in cognitive brain activity between the sexes, they also propose a theory that this is the way it s supposed to be (Pollitt 2549). Although these differences exist it does not mean that sexes should have permanently assigned roles in society. Katha Pollitt, a feminist author and high profile activist wrote the essay Why Don t Boys Play With Dolls, published in 1995 in The New York Times Magazine. In the essay, she argues that biological determinism may reassure some adults about their present, but it is feminism, the ideology of flexible and converging sex roles, that fits our children s future (2549). Pollitt raises important ethical problems in her essay, gender roles and stereotyping. Throughout her essay she provides several claims to her argument and builds credibility with her audience by using rhetorical strategies. However, the argument also exhibits some minor flaws, which could in return limit its persuasiveness. This analysis will identify Pollitt s three main claims and the evidence she uses to support them. Games were broadcast to over 80 percent of homes with a television in the United States, and twenty two games over the course of the season were watched by at least 25 million viewers, individually. Since 2003, average viewership of the NFL has risen 31%, and in 2013 NFL games accounted for 46 of the 50 most watched telecasts of the fall for viewers 18 59 (Bibel). The point is clear: while it may not be a problem, the United States very clearly has a football obsession. The obsession is so much so that more Americans list the NFL as their favorite sport than the National Hockey League, Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association combined (Rovell). Now, it is not unusual for certain countries to hold an association with a certain sport. Brazil, most notably, loves its soccer. New Zealanders love rugby, and Canadians love hockey. These associations make sense, and sports provide for many positive cultural pillars that exist across the world today. At a base level, the NFL does that for Americans as well. Most will not read the specific details of the contract which could lead to circumstances of breaching the agreement. This paper will give an example of an apartment lease contract which I, Ivory Polk have entered into with Chelsea 88 Apartments. I will provide some specific contractual details within the contract. I will also include the five essential elements of an enforceable contract and show how it correlates with my contract example. We all should become aware of all the details within any contract we sign to prevent any possible breaches and to allow ourselves to enter into a fair and responsible situation. Some of the ... An offer also indicates a desire to be tied in by the agreement with the acceptor. An acceptance is to agree to the conditions set forth in the contract. The action of acceptance produces the contact. We then need to have consideration which has to be received as stated in the contract. Consideration is the notion of legal value which can be in the form of money, services, or items, just to name a few. Furthermore, we have legality which means all aspects of the contract must be legal. The legality of the contract must be consistent with the law. According to FindLaw s State Laws, a website of state specific laws, When someone agrees to rent or lease a property, they sign a lease or rental agreement outlining the terms of the agreement. It is a legally binding contract between the tenant and the landlord that details the rights and responsibilities of each party. When either party violates the terms of a valid rental agreement, then the aggrieved party may seek relief in civil court (2016, para. 1). This statement identifies the importance of legality of a contract and specifies possible remedies. The last element needed for an enforceable contract is capacity. Both parties must have the legal capacity to be tied into a contract which includes sound mind and age appropriate. It is important that both parties have the capacity to understand the ... • 33. Difference between Community Service and Volunteering Volunteers are not paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless. Sherry Anderson (Volunteering Quotes: Finest Quotes). On average, when people think about community service, they assume that volunteering is just hours we need to be able to graduate and that is it. Community service is more than just hours; community service is based on the acts performed by someone with the purpose of helping or bringing benefits to his or her community. People frequently compare community service as a punishment since it is often offered to small time offenders as an alternative to fines or jail time. However, community service is the vital force to many communities since they depend on the service made by the volunteers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Volunteering in your community helps solve many dilemmas in your community that descend through the eyes of government and social agencies (Everything you ever wanted to know about volunteering). Discussing about volunteering to teenagers should be the first step for a better life, since teenagers are the future of tomorrow and they will leave a mark from yesterday. Volunteering has been such an important matter, that schools in many countries around the world established that 12th grade students will need certain hours of community service in order to graduate. But the frequent answers all the schools are getting are Why do I need to volunteer? I have better things to do! What people are forgetting is that each one of them is part of a community, a community that is not perfect and that the government sometimes forgets about their problems or needs, because obviously the government needs to take care of other things that require more attention. People are not only helping others, they are also helping themselves (Volunteering). Volunteering is not a new subject now, but people did not perceive it before because as time goes by, volunteering is becoming more and more popular since each year more people volunteer. Volunteering began around the early 19th century since America was experimenting with the Great Awakening. The Great Awakening was a period in which the importance of the church was slowly dying and instead the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Problems Associated With Pipe Breaks The problems associated with pipe breaks are economic, reduce reliability and reduce water quality. The cost of replacing or repairing a pipe can be split into capital costs (supplying and laying the new pipe), maintenance costs (repairing and preventing failure in the system), operating costs (electricity and filtering costs) and damage costs (property damage, inconvenience, loss of amenity, health risks and environmental costs). (Dandy Engelhardt, 2001) All of these costs can be difficult to accurately predict, which may be necessary when consulting with management about whether or not to replace a pipe. Pipe bursts in commercial areas and along main roads also have higher failure costs as the interruption the failure will have on the traffic and potential 3rd party damage will be greater. A rational decision needs to be made into at what point it is more cost effective to replace the pipe than letting water run out of the cracks. The cost of a repair = crew+ equipment+ sleeve + repaving + overhead costs. Figure 2 Cost breakdown of repairing pipes (in US dollars) While the above figure gives a rough estimate of what each portion of the repair will cost, the variables were calculated in 1982 in America, and protocols may have changed since then, or be different in New Zealand than it was in America at the time of the study. However, this was the only literature available that considered breaking down the cost of repair. Figure 3 Repair and Replacement Costs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The Dynamics of Brice Family Brice Family Dynamics Presenting Problems Overall, the Brice family has some clear issues that are causing stress for everyone, including their adolescent daughter Claudia. The family did not believe in the power of family therapy, yet they had little places to turn to in response to Claudia s growing anger problems. They had tried therapy before, but to no avail. We are introduced to their problems both from a description of the anger between each other and their own explanations of what is going on. Their son Don is absent, both literally and figuratively, showing how he tends to avoid the overall family struggles. Claudia s role in the family dynamic was described early on by her mother, yet this explanation was done in a very isolating way for Claudia. Her mother explained her strange ideas, but that only invoked a strong and angry reaction from Claudia herself. In fact, the two seemed to feed off one another in terms of their anger. It is clear that the main issues were a discrepancy between what Claudia wanted her life to be like and the heightened rules and expectations her family was imposing on her. Mother and daughter continuously engaged in fighting, clearly not seeing each others point of view, but too caught up in their own emotional reactions regarding the situation. The fact that Don wasn t present just put more highlight on Claudia, and showed how the family viewed her as the problem, not taking responsibility for it themselves. This was felt by ... Adults And The Influence Of Empathy In Adults As with many other skills, empathy is a learned skill that requires an awareness that other people think, feel, and behave in ways that are both similar and different from one s self, or put simply, being able to relate to and understand what another person is experiencing or feeling (McDonald Messinger, 2011). One of the first experiences that people have with empathy frequently appears as a baby when we hear another infant cry (Szalavitz, 2010). Other research has shown that infants not only favor adults who appear to be more helpful, but they also tend to offer voluntary help to adults who appear to be having difficulties when reaching for something (Szalavitz, 2010). • 42. Harold Pinter´s Among the Hidden and the Theme of Propaganda It s so easy for propaganda to work, and dissent to be mocked, believes Harold Pinter, Nobel Prize winning English playwright, screenwriter, director and actor. Various propaganda from the totalitarian government of Among the Hidden will affect citizens, baron or farmer. Either way, there will be attempts to voice other sides of the story. The government is spreading lies about the population police; their deceptive ways will change citizen s lives. Luke is the third child of a farmer s family, and propaganda deeply interfered with his life. Ever since he was a toddler, he was obliged to a strict set of rules from his paranoid parents. Then they started running all that on TV about the Population Police, how the Population Police had ways of finding out everything, how they d do anything to enforce the law... And your dad started hearing rumors in town, about other babies... (10 11) Luke s mother replied to his questioning. His mother was telling him about the government s propaganda, the propaganda they had believed. Luke s parents fell right into the government s trap of lies. Therefore, Luke was forbidden from watching TV, using the computer, or calling someone on the phone, blocking him from the outside world. Being a farmer s third child practically meant Luke was clueless when it came to real life. The doctrines of the government changed Luke s life. Barons were impacted, in a distinct way. They say.
