Analysis Of Blair Witch Project
Semiotic Analysis on Blair Witch Project Blair Witch Project is regarded the first of its time, a
horror film in a documentary style movie. The release of the film in 1999 marked a new phase
in the creation of films. The Blair Witch Project set a benchmark for production of films of
different genres, especially for horror movies. The fixtures of the genre, horror films, have long
being characterized by the presence of graphical violence and torture by villains like monsters,
ghosts, demons and madmen or psychopaths. Prior to the release of the Blair Witch Project, most
horror movies were developing in many ways especially in the storyline and justifications of the
supernatural characters and scenes. Blair Witch Project was very special in many ways, using
mystery, suspense and foreshadowing to create the intense fear and scare in the audience. Since the
1980s, the horror movies have changed dramatically. With every new experience through
innovation, in the filmindustry, the horror films are expected to change with time, and in a whole
new dimension. The film Blair Witch Project, produced in 1999, has had an incredible impact and
influence, which very few films have had over the years. It is arguably among the scariest and most
frightening horror filmto date. It is a one of a kind on the basis that it being a horror film, it does
not possess the characteristics of generally known horror movies. Throughout the whole film, we
find no violence content like torture or graphic

Knowledge Management Strategy And Metrics
Knowledge Management Strategy Metrics Knowledge management often involves isolating and
planning intellectual assets within an organization, producing new knowledge for competitive
advantages within the organization, making vast amounts of corporate information accessible.
Knowledge management can be hard to interpret or explain. How would a nurse or doctor define
health care succinctly? How would a CEO explain management? Each of these areas is very
complex, with many sub areas of specialization. This in turn leads to the question What is
Knowledge ManagementStrategy Metrics ?
What Is Knowledge? Some may ask, aren t we managing knowledge already? Truth is, no! We
are actually just making a really huge mess of managing information. Knowledge has two simple
explanations of interest. The first part deals with a defined body of information. Depending on the
meaning, the body of the information might consist of facts, opinions, ideas, theories, principles,
and models. Knowledge also refers to a person s state of being with respect to some body of
information. These states include; ignorance, awareness, familiarity, understanding, facility, and so
on (Barclay, R., Murray, P. (1997). In traditional perceptions of the role of knowledge in business
organizations, tacit knowledge is often viewed as the real key to getting things done and creating
new value. There are two forms of knowledge that can be found in any organization:

Iraq War Recovery
Level three difficulty of recovery. The Iran Iraq War is the only case study of a level three
disaster within this review. It is considered a one of a kind and instrumental surprise (Mitchell,
1996). A level three disaster is the most difficult to respond to and recover from. Some acts of war
mimicked industrial disasters that occur during peacetime. Fires and explosions are examples of
these types of surprises that occurred. Other wartime acts included deliberate destruction and
contamination by chemical weapons (Mitchell, 1996). The wartime period was prolonged, but many
attacks were focused on small land areas. The long term effects of the war included damage to
sewage systems and subsequent poor sanitation leading to gastrointestinal disturbances and
degraded health. Environmental effects of the war were not well monitored, but some observations
could be made. Bombings accounted for destruction of forests, date palm orchards, and pasture
land. Some farmlands remain unusable due to contamination from toxic weapons. Bombings of oil
rigs in the gulf caused much oil contamination of the ocean, leading to destruction of the prawn
fishing industry (Mitchell, 1996). Iran incurred extreme economic damage due to the damage...

However, this return to a normal state may be transitory and false. The initial quick response of the
media and government may demonstrate recovery and mitigation has been completed, but this does
not account for long term consequences. Surprises often elicit consequences that are long term,
chronic, and often damaging to the local economics, the environment, and human health. Often
times recovery efforts are short term, but the consequences of the surprise are long term and
negative effects may not be immediate (Mitchell, 1996). These mismatched recovery efforts are

Similarities Between New France And Canada
Have you ever thought about how similar and different New France was compared to Canada?
Well, think about all these activities the people in New France had compared to what we do on a
daily basis. For example, farming, hunting and gathering materials. We can do any of these
activities today and we don t do some of them. We farm today. We only hunt for pleasure and not
to gather food because, we have grocery stores. We don t need to gather materials because we have
stores to buy materials.
In New France, you would have to hunt to get your meat. In Canada, you can go to the grocery
store to get meat. To prepare meat in New France, you would salt, smoke, or dry your meat.
These were different methods used to preserve food. In Canada, you can put meat in the
refrigerator or the freezer. In New France, people ate four meals a day compared to Canada today,
where people eat three meals a day. To... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

According to Beilby, Apologetics is, in its simplest possible terms, the attempt to defend a
particular belief or system of beliefs against objections. Caner considers experiential apologetics
one of the five traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The entire concept of sharing one s testimony is subjective. A believer can tell someone about
their horrible past, but if they did not know the believer before they were a believer, the
testimony could fall flat. Additionally, it is an non provable method, since it is a personal feeling
or experience the person is describing, not concrete proof. Finally, there is an issue with
duplication by other religions, meaning that other religious believers have a testimony and
experience to share, as well. Relying solely on the experiential apologetics leaves the apologist
open to a myriad of problems with proof and deniability of their testimony.
CONCLUSION
Experiential apologetics proposes that knowledge of God and his grace has to come from a
personal experience which then leads to acceptance of God s truth expressed in the Scriptures.
This personal experience may come from a testimony of a believer to an unbeliever, or through
direct experience of a non believer causing them to become a believer. While several proponents
of this method have developed different interpretations of the form over time, the basic principle
still remains valid that a shared experience can help to save a lost soul. Although experiential
apologetics are considered one of the personal and intimate forms of apologetics, it is also
considered one of the weakest forms due to

Microscopy Essay
The resolution of optical microscopes is fundamentally limited by the diffraction of light, as
postulated by German physicist Ernst Abbe in 1873. This means that a microscope cannot
distinguish two objects located closer than О»/2NA, where О» is the wavelength of light and NA is
the numerical aperture of the imaging lens (2). Although elucidation of cell functions and
subcellular processes has benefited from advances in fluorescent microscopy, this diffractionlimit
has fundamentally hindered optical microscopy for over a century (1). Recently, however, several
new developments in imaging have emerged which can circumvent this limit. By delivering optical
images with spatial resolutions below the diffraction limit super resolution microscopy techniques
now permits biologists to visualize structures and processes of cells at the molecular level, down to
several nanometers. This incredible improvement in spatial resolution has allowed biologists to
address important new questions requiring resolutions below 250nm, involving details such as the
fine architecture of cell structures, focal adhesions, microtubules, and coated vesicles. Internal
dynamic processes can also now be studied, including the movement of focal adhesion complexes
and bacteria polarity complexes (3). Super resolution techniques used for live cell imaging studies
can generally be divided into three categories: those based on highly localized fluorescence
emission volumes; those based on structured illumination;

The Blizzard Inc.
When it comes to gamers there is not one who does not know who Activision Blizzard Inc. is.
Even those who do not play any video games tend to know that blizzard commands a legion of
followers, I know that throughout high school I logged ridiculous hours into their game Diablo
II which was a top selling game of the time. In gaming the Blizzard Company has created more
top ranked games bringing in more money than most people can truly fathom. When all is said
and done what is the true value of such a company, how much money do they control in our
economy? Who is it that can rival such a behemoth of a company? Within these few pages I will
try to encompass the mass of this company, what it is that drives them and to what extent their
influence travels within our world and perhaps beyond. Although Blizzard was created in 1991
it was not public, it was not until September, 30 1993 that it was made a publically traded
company. Upon its first day of trading it commanded a price of only eighty three cents per share.
Today it has a price of over thirty five dollars per share with a record high price of $38.71 just a
week ago. Considering the price it started at this is a remarkable feat, this company started small
and has weathered some of the worst economic storms we have seen in our history. Though we
have recovered a great deal since the housing market collapse, as a whole the market recently has
been going down across all boards I believe as a result of the oil prices

How Is 1984 Still Relevant Today
Today s society is full of hypocritical beings whose belief it is that there is a certain way to act and
all must follow it. Indeed this idea goes back all throughout history, existing from biblical times, to
those of the French Revolution, continuing on with Stalin s Soviet Union, and still existing today in
our society. These norms define what actions and reactions are appropriate for any situation, as well
as providing a basis on which different classes can properly live their lives. However, sometimes
these norms contain questionable content that, when viewed, is found to be harmful to their way of
live, destructive of their culture, and detrimental to their freedom and rights to the pursuit of
happiness. It is in these moments that it is prudent that people stand up against the restrictive
norms and fight for their rights.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Art of Violence: Healey s Character Representation in The Drawer Boy
Reviewed by Word Press critic Michael Dykstra, the Canadian play The Drawer Boy, by Michael
Healey, has been suggested to be a play containing no violence (Dykstra); however, this conclusion
deserves further analysis. In the play, the author uses violence as a way to create an identity for
Angus, a main character, as well as a method to develop Angus s character. Through this play,
Healey creates a personality for Angus that, although innocent at first, evolves through his exposure
to violence and establishes within him an aggressive disposition.
In the first two scenes of they play, Healey portrays Angus as... Show more content on

(556).The fact that Angus knows immediately that Hamlet killing his stepfather is wrong, infers
that he already has the knowledge of what s right and wrong ;therefore, has morals and a
conscience. Angus exposure to the violent play enables the resurfacing of a moral self that is
proven through this setting to have already been a part of Angus identity. No matter all of the
positive that Healey allows his audience to unravel about Angus character, he also informs the
reader of a trace of negative that lies within. It cannot be ignored that the drawer boy s character
chose to go to war; therefore, he put himself in a violent situation. Morgan even reminds Angus that
You were about to go to university... (570), meaning that he had other options than to go with his
friend into an environment where one s trained to shoot a gun. Although Healey gives no evidence
that Angus killed anyone and mostly mentions him and Morgan mostly goofing off during the war,
they both joined the army where it goes without saying that they will be trained to defend and kill.
It is safe for the audience to assume that Angus knows what war is and that it involves taking lives;
nonetheless, he still made the decision to join in the army. The fact that Angus chose to enter such
a destructive environment can very well be evidence of the existence of an element of violence

Analysis Of Primo Levi s The Gray Zone
Primo Levi s book, Survival in Auschwitz, examines how a select few managed to survive the
inhumane and brutal treatment of the Jews in Auschwitz. The well known Italian Holocaust
survivor, Primo Levi was only 24 years old, when he was captured and taken to a detention camp
in Fossoli, before spending eleven months in Auschwitz. He, like so many other innocent Jews,
was sent to die in the death camp but with a little bit luck and resourcefulness, he survived. In his
essay, The Gray Zone Levi, writes privileged prisoners were a minority within the Lager [camp]
population; nevertheless they represent a potent majority among survivors (The Gray Zone,117),
where he examines the middle ground between Nazi soldiers and the Jewish prisoners.... Show more

Everyone in the Lager is responsible for oneself, and no one could afford to help his or her

successful young engineer, arrested and sent to Auschwitz. In his own country, L. was the
director of an important factory chemical product and its name was (and is) well known in
industrial circles throughout Europe (Levi 93). Primo Levi wants to make it clear to the reader
that, for Alfred to reach the highest position of director and be able to survive the camps he had
to be determined, motivated and intelligent. According to the author, Alfred always tried to
separate himself from the rest of the Häftling and made an effort to keep himself clean and put

not give up hope like so many others, in the camps, he adapted to his situation the best way he

with discipline and respect, which made him an asset to the Nazis. By acting differently than the
other prisoners, Alfred was able to get a better job as the technical head of the Chemical

John Stuart Mill s Utilitarianism
The perceived end goal for most human experiences is happiness. However, the objective
assessment of happiness creates challenges. Happiness is individual and personal, but the actions
that people take to achieve happiness effect everyone in society. In this essay, I will investigate the
standards for happiness utilizing John Stuart Mills Utilitarianism. Happiness is available to all
people at different levels, with clear objective standards at its most basic levels but with only
subjective standards at its higher levels. Although, people are able to obtain different levels of
happiness based upon their faculties according to Mill, all are able to contribute to the greater
good through their actions. Mill makes it clear early in his work that... Show more content on

Mill explains the higher and lower pleasures, comparing human happiness to that of pigs. He
states, Human beings have higher faculties than the animal appetites, and once they become
conscious of them they don t regard anything as happiness that doesn t include their gratification
(Mill, 5). This comparison is important, as it serves as a concrete example of more desirable
pleasures. Humans mental pleasures are also dependent on their respective faculties. The higher
the person s faculties, the higher more required for the person to be happy. This individual quality
of happiness is therefore subjective as the two people can achieve the same understood level of
happiness with significantly different mental cultivations. A person who cultivates their mind daily
and understands more about philosophy is happier, but a person with lower faculties is unable to
understand this level of happiness. These human pleasures of the mind are much more superior to
animalistic pleasures. Mill argues that once people are made aware of their possession of higher
faculties, they will not be happy when these are

Is Technology Good or Bad For Us? Technology has been around for a very long time now. In
some way or another, it s been a part of people s lives nowadays whether it s cell phones, tv,
computers, tablets, we all own one or more of these things. Digital electronics started between
the late 1950 s and 1970 s. According to Forbes, the first document which included the discussion
of building a computer was on June 30, 1945. Back in the day, technology wasn t as popular or
used as it is now. It amazes me to see how much it has grown. From box Tv s to flat screen tvs to
smart tv s that can connect to other online sites such as youtube, and Netflix. Phones have gone
from house phones, to flip phones, to smartphones. It s hard to believe sometimes how far
technology has grown. Technology overall, is good for high school, college students. It helps
them in many ways one is being able to do research online. My question has always been whether
technology is good or bad for younger generations by Dr. Manny Alvarez. As said by him, nearly
every modern parent has given a tablet or smartphone to a child for entertainment. By entertainment,
he means letting them watch movies, and cartoons. Almost every parent that I know has done this
at least once. A lot has to do with the baby being grumpy and parents using technology as an
entertainment for them to not cry. Alvarez does state that parents allowing their children to use

John F. Kennedy’s Assassination
Over fifty years have passed since the assassination of John F. Kennedy and still it is one of the
most talked about assassinations of all time. JFK was assassinated on November 22, 1963 in
Dealey Plaza, Dallas, Texas ( The White House ). John and his wife, Jacqueline, were riding in
an open top car down the streets of Dealey Plaza when the President John Kennedy was shot and
killed. This event traumatized many Americans, Over 66% of people in America believe that the
assassination was part of a larger conspiracy while only 25% think it was just one individual
working alone (Blaton ). The assassination of JFK has been argued for many years; the
government declared that Lee Harvey Oswaldworked alone, but many have different stories....

It was this action made by Jack Ruby, that made this particular assassination suspicious and one of
the biggest conspiracy theories. The government investigated the murder of President Kennedy and
declared that Lee Harvey Oswald was responsible and he worked alone. But many questions were
left unanswered by the government, making many wonder what really happened on November 22,
1963. Over the years more information has arisen from new investigations and people expressing
their opinions to the public. The most talked about conspiracy theory is that Lyndon B. Johnson was
responsible for the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Then Vice President Lyndon Baines Johnson
had the most to gain in the short term, said Stone, who has taught a JFK assassination course at
the university since the early 90s (Stone). Roger Stone, a former aid to Nixon, claims he has
evidence against LBJ that he was the one who organized the whole assassination. Stone plans to
have a book released on these accusations this fall. Roger Stone claims Johnson micro managed
Kennedy s Dallas motorcade, demanding it pass through Dealey Plaza on the afternoon he was
shot. Stone also claims that Johnson hired Jack Ruby several years in advance before the shooting
of JFK happened (Stone). These accusation made

Less Funded Future Leaders of America
How do we fund our schools for the proper education? How do we support our educators to give
the best of their ability for the children? There is a saying You get what you give. If this is to be
true, I would very much like for my daughter to receive the best education with me supporting the
schools as much as possible. I have attended every one of my younger sisters PTA (Parent
Teacher Association) meetings, and befriended all of my daughter s educators to be as involved
in her education as possible. I was conflicted with the lack of school funds epidemic. Since I was
younger our priority to do any extra curriculum that involved the school was to build a fundraiser
and seek sponsorship. This was understandable since our learning curriculum were funded by the

Contradictions between Human Civilization and Natural...
White Noise is a celebrated post modernist novel by Don DeLillo. The background setting is a
small town called Blacksmith and the College on the Hill which is located in the town. The novel
depicts Jack s family s and the townspeople s day to day life and their performance in a cataclysmic
event, vividly showing the life in a modern society. The relationship between man and nature is one
of the focuses of the novel. Simply defined, ecocriticism is the study of the relationship between
literature and the physical environment...ecocriticism takes an earth centered approach to literary
studies. (Glotfeltyz). The natural environmentthat the characters in White Noise inhabit has been
seriously ruined. The contradictions between human civilization and natural environment are
revealed in many aspects in the novel.
Deterioration of natural environment is the most direct consequence of nature s absence. Man
has abandoned a pastoral life and turned the world into an ugly and unpleasant place. In White
Noise proofs can be found everywhere. City is changing the environment and climate in which
man lives. The heat of air, traffic and people. The heat of food and sex. The heat of tall buildings.
The heat that floats out of the subways and the tunnels. It s always fifteen degrees hotter in the
cities. Heat rises from the sidewalks and falls from the poisoned sky. The buses breathe heat. Heat
emanates from crowds of shoppers and office workers. The entire infrastructure is based on

Causes Of The Louisiana Purchase
In the eyes of several, the Louisiana Purchase may well be recognized as one of the all time
greatest real estate deal. As Paul Leicester stated in his work of The Works of Thomas Jefferson
Jefferson at the stroke of a pen essentially doubled the territorial extent of the United States. On
April 30, 1803, U.S. representatives located in Paris approved to purchase 828,000 square miles at
the very cost efficient amount of fifteen million dollars that spread from the Mississippi Riverto the
Rocky Mountains, and from the Gulf of Mexico all the way north to Canada. To better realize how
inexpensive the United Statespurchased that land for was about eighteen dollars and some change
per square mile. Soon enough, the newly purchased land of western territory became six states and
portions of nine present day states. As one could imagine this great purchase did not happen without
a buildup of time, and without many factors leading up to the Louisiana Purchase. Below are a
couple of factors such as the Spanish control of New Orleans and Napoleon s burning desire for
the Caribbean Island of Haiti. To begin, the borders of this territory was made up of the east side
of the Mississippi River, the Gulf of Mexico on the south, the Rocky Mountains on the west and
Canada along the northern border. Originally, France claimed this territory, then Spain was granted
this territory in 1763 in the Treaty of Paris, due to their backing of the French in the war. At the
time, the French thought

A Career in Social Work
A Career in Social Work
I chose to do research on a career as a social worker because, based on my Holland and MBTI
code, this career best combines the conventional, social, and realistic aspects of my personality. I
also feel that this career choice corresponds with my personal values, as it will allow me to channel
my communication and problem solving skills towards helping disadvantaged individuals and
families.
Entering the social work field requires considerable preparation. In California, as in most states, a
bachelor s degree in social work (BSW), as well as the completion of additional coursework
hours in areas such as child abuse assessment and alcohol/chemical dependency, is the minimum
requirement to become a Licensed Bachelor s Social Worker (LBSW). An LBSW must work
under the supervision of a Licensed Master Social Worker or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker,
licenses which both require a master s degree in social work (MSW). Most California State
University campuses in the southern California area offer accredited degrees in social work. In
particular, the University of Southern California offers a top ranked online MSW program. Full
time social workers must also be prepared to work 40 hours per week, occasionally working
evenings and weekends to meet deadlines, meet with clients, or handle emergencies. In addition to
fulfilling all these preparation requirements, successful social workers must be deeply
compassionate, a good listener, and an effective

The Cultural Challenges of Doing Business Overseas
This paper will provide an analysis of Steve Kafka s decision to open and operate a Chicago style
pizza business in the Czech Republic (University of Phoenix, 2011). This analysis will include
information on the cultural differences between the United States and the Czech Republic and how
these differences may affect the business climate. This paper will also review potential risks in
doing business overseas and what Kafka may be able to do to mitigate these risks. In addition,
trade barriers and price structures will also be discussed.

secure imports more easily from other European countries.
Pizza Prices
One way for Kafka to do market research for his new business is to utilize information provided
by Euro monitor International. Euro monitor offers many different reports on different business
sectors and information such as Who Eats Out Where. This report has information on the number
of businesses, demographic information, and growth and trend information. If Kafka utilizes well
researched information on the food industry prior to creating his business plan and pricing
structure, it could provide a very solid foundation to build on. Kafka can also perform his own
personal research, and he can also conduct some focus groups with local residents on possible
attitudes and price information on a specialty pizza such has the Chicago style pizza. Kakfa should
also investigate the eating habits of the 3.8 million foreign tourists that visit the city each year.
Conclusion
Kafka has a new and exciting opportunity in opening his new pizza business in the growing and
expanding city of Prague. There are definite challenges such as the language barrier for him and
learning to better under the Czech mindset and cultural customs. Kafka is fairly well prepared
already speaking the language and having local residents as friends that can serve as his cultural

Should Student Athletes Get Paid Essay
The crackle of pads and the sounds of whistles. Flags flying everywhere and bodies crashing each
other. Football players these days put their bodies and their lives on the line when they go out on
the field everyday. This being said, is it time for college athletes to get paid to play. As a result of
sports, universities are receiving hundreds of millions of dollars of profit and coaches and staff are
getting paid millions, yet the athletes that bring the university and coaches the wins and the success
are getting no additional funds. I believe that it is time that student athletes get paid for their
contributions to the success that they bring to their universities. One reason why student athletes
should get paid is because of the unfair financial gains that universities are making at the expense
of the athletes. College sports now is a billion dollar industry, with universities making hundreds of

A Brief Note On The United Arab Emirates
Healthcare in the United Arab Emirates
Katie Williams
Alaska Career College
Abstract
The United Arab Emirates is a Middle Eastern country full of history and culture that is
modernizing and revamping its healthcare system to better serve the needs of the people.
Depending on where one plans to visit, it is important to observe the cultural and social norms of
the population.
Healthcare in the United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates is a Middle Eastern country that is located along the Persian (Arabian
Gulf). With Oman to the East and Saudi Arabia to the South, this country spans 32,278 square
miles and is home to an estimated 8,264,070 people. (Map XL, Inc. US Office, 2016).
English is widely spoken, especially among the educated or during business transactions although
Arabic is the official language of the country. Islam is the official religion. The largest city is the
city of Dubai, and the Capitol of the country is Abu Dhabi.
Established in December of 1971, the country is a Federation of seven Emirates (Abu Dhabi,
Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Pas al Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al Quwain). Although each Emirate is
governed by an absolute monarch, together they jointly form the Federal Supreme Council, which
is the highest governing authority in the UAE. This Council is responsible for passing and
enforcing federal laws, as well as approving the appointment of the Prime Minister. (Ministry of
Cabinet Affairs the Future, 2016). One monarch is selected as President

Little Italy Research Paper
Little Italy is unique because it is no longer the ethnic enclave it was 115 years ago. When
comparing Little Italy to other ethnic neighborhoods, we can immediately see differences. In
Chinatown, for example, there are many Chinese restaurants, businesses, and structures scattered
throughout the neighborhood. In addition, many Chinese people can be found visiting, working,
and even living in the enclave. When you see these Chinese individuals, they are often speaking the
Chinese language. Little Italy, however, is quite different from Chinatown. Unlike Chinatown, Little
Italy has lost its ethnic flavor. While Little Italy was once a neighborhood thriving with a heavy

Cognitive Behavior Therapy And Therapy
There are many that have contributed to cognitive behavior therapy or CBT throughout the years
but we are going to focus on the founders of modern day CBT, Albert Ellis and Aaron Beck. Ellis
is responsible for the Rational emotive behavior therapy, the first of the CBT in the 1960 s. The
bases of REBT is suggest that a patient s emotional distressed stems from their thoughts about a
traumatic event, and not the event itself. Ellis developed this approach as a means to get over his
personal problems growing up, problems such as public speaking and his shyness around women.
Beck during the 1970 s developed cognitive therapy, which suggest that a patient behavior is
affected by the way they structure the world based on the attitudes and assumptions they encounter
on previous experiences. Becks main purpose was to create an evidence based therapy that
addressed depression. Beck based the validity of his theory after he tested it and the constructs with
empirical studies while conducting controlled outcome studies to determining how the outcomes
would compare with existing psychotherapyand pharmacotherapy treatments for depression. CBT
is a group of related therapies that are based on scientific research that are scientifically proven
effective. When we trace the roots of CBT it actually began in the 1940 s when there came a need
for an effective but short term therapy for WWII vets, who were returning from war and in need of
therapy for anxiety and depression. Research

The Field Of Computer Science Essay
In the field of computer science, there are which can be surprising to most multiple occupations that
involve more than just sitting in front of a computer and writing intricate codes. A systems analyst,
for example, requires an individual to participate in an active team environment. Systems analysts
work closely with many professionals such as programmers and hardware specialists to develop
systems that can solve various kinds of problems. Additionally, a systems analystis essential to
numerous conglomerate businesses and corporations. The systems analyst profession is a rapidly
growing job, and the employment of systems analysts is projected to grow 33 percent in the

being a systems analyst is the career of my choice. I find the notion of being a systems analyst
appealing because it requires an individual to be organized, adaptable, and interactive with the

The Prayer Of The Pharisees
Something that God spoke to me through my devotions one morning this semester was that
knowledge without action is dead, and that action in my life will lead to action in the lives of

referring to the Pharisees, ...so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the work they do.
For they preach, but do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on
people s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. I already
knew this was the attitude of the Pharisees, but this particular morning I felt like God was opening

In addition to that sort of thing, I have noticed a few issues in the world and in ministry today
that I believe need to be addressed. The first is a distorted view of who God is. There are so
many people today that are angry with God or even believe that God is angry with them, or they
see God as this harsh and demeaning God who simply demands us to follow all sorts of rules and
regulations. I believe that this is one of the biggest issues, in and beyond the American culture that
people have with God. Unfortunately, we as Christians misrepresent God all of the time, and this
gives those that do not know Christ a very distorted view of God and what His character is like.
Rather than seeing God s character of love and truth, they see rules, regulations, inconsistencies,
and so on and so forth. This must change. To help rid people of this inaccurate view of who God
is, it is vital to walk through the salvation story with them. I learned in my Polity class about how
the salvation story is all throughout Scripture. Not only can we see this in the New Testament,
but it is throughout the entire Old Testament as well. This is something that I had never realized
before, but once I did I was able to see how God truly desires relationship with us. Relationship is
huge with God. This is not because He is in some way lacking relationship for there is perfect
relationship within the Trinity but, because of His character of love, He desires for us to

Injustice And Social Injustices
Introduction
Though the concept of social injustice is universal in nature, the experience varies with each
person. Factors like a person race, or gender can further influence the severity of the injustice;
victims caught in the overlap between discriminations often go unrecognized by the law and
society. Many people recognize the names Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and Tamir Rice as African
Americans who were murdered by local police. But names like Michelle Cusseaux, Tanish
Anderson, and Meagan Hockaday often receive less feedback even though they are also murdered
African Americans. The only distinction between the sets of names is gender. Even within racial

In a publication titled Black Women in Academe , author Yolanda Moses describes how isolation,
invisibility, hostility, indifference, and a lack of understanding of the Black women s experiences
are all too often part of the climate Black women may face on campuses (Moses, 1989). The
detrimental environment surrounding these women frequently results in sullenness, lack of social
assertiveness, and belief that they are less competent than male students. Even if time spent at an
academic institution is minimal, with this kind of prejudice faced at an early age, any woman
black or otherwise, would suffer the rest of their life. In response to the discrimination faced at
universities, some have created programs to aid black students and other minorities; these
programs tend to generalize the needs of all its black students and do not fully support black
women specifically.
Double discrimination and its effects are not only seen in academe. Social injustice occurs in any
situation where people are treated unequally and includes discrimination and racism. For much of
the twentieth century, crime and punishment have provided some of the most powerful symbols of
racial divide in America (Rosich, 2007). Generally tried in a white dominated legal system, black
victims often face harsher punishment, longer sentences, and unfair trials. Rosich s research
indicates that white Americans widely believe that people of

Euphronius The Calyx Krater
Text: The work of Euphronius and Euxithoes is classified as a krater, or vase used for mixing
wine with water. This specific Krater is called the Calyx Krater because of the way the handles
are shaped. The handles curve upwards, resembling a calyx of a flower. The Calyx krater was
painted in red figure meaning red depictions on a black background. Red figure artwork replaced
the easier black figure artwork which is its opposite. To create a red figure art piece you must
start with a slip to outline the figures. Once complete, the piece gets fired in three stages. The first
turns the whole vase red and fixes the color to the vase. The second step is to reduce the oxygen in

The figures are very carefully drawn with a fine brush. This level of detail and work convey the
finality of death and barbarity of war. Euphronios paid very close attention to how Sarpedon
died and carefully recreated his body. This attention to detail showcases the violent and
spontaneous death of Sarpedon in the Trojan War. Euphronios also composed the painting in a
way that I believe to show the dignity and honor of dying in battle. According to Homers Iliad,
Zeus tells Hermes to call sleep and death to the battle where Sarpedon had been injured.
Euphronios knew of this detail and I believe that is what he is depicting. Following Euphronios
past of painting mythological scenes, this makes sense. On the reverse side of the Vase is the
depiction of young men suiting up for battle. In the time period of which this vase is created, it
wasn t uncommon for youth to fight. Often the culture relied on the blending of old and young.
Having the death of a great soldier on one side and the entering of youth on the other, I believe
this vase was meant to show a contrast of old and young, and of the death and birth of

Examples Of Savage In Syria
Since the 1600 s philosophers have frequently debated whether or not man in his natural state is
civil or savage. Philosophers theorised that in a scenario called the state of nature a human s true
state would become apparent. The state of nature is defined by famous philosophers Hobbes and
Locke as the state men are (or would be) in living together without effective government
(Simmons 450). While the majority of the modern world appears to be civil there is one example
of the state of nature in which the savage nature of man can be seen clearly, Syria. Although Syria

choose, it may cross your mind that my theme has something to do with religion. Meditating
Buddha from Gandhara and Theotokos of Vladimirmay come from different cultural traditions;
however they both share the same general theme of picturing the divines.
The Meditating Buddha or Seated Buddha from Gandhara is an early statue of Buddha from
Gandhara, Pakistan. This work of art is from the Culture of Buddhism and was made around the
2nd or 3rd century. Buddhism still exists today and is one of the leading religions in the world,
which explains why the statue is still well known to this day and why it is still represented over and
over again throughout history. The statue is now located in Room 33, British Museum in London.
On the other hand, Vladimir Virgin is a medieval Byzantine iconof the Virgin and Child. Virgin
Mary is seen as the holy protector of Russia. Like I said earlier, it is one of the most respected
Orthodox icons and an early example of iconography of the Eleusa type. The icon is displayed in
a gallery called Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. The icon was believed to be painted in
Constantinople sometime around the 11th and 12th century. The theme I picked is associated with

Qur An Vs Bible
The text in the Qur an and in the Bible share many of the same stories and messages, but they also
share many notable differences. In the Qur an, the prophet Muhammad received communications
directly from God (858) and every message or story received from God was added to the Qur an.
The messages he received from God were not written down at first, but it was Muhammads duty to
spread the word received from God verbally to many people. The Qur an was later put into words
during the rule of Abu Bakr. The Bible, however, was written by many different people in many
different versions. Like the Qur an, the Bible depicts many different narratives that are written in
third person. The narrator both the Qur an and in the Bible are God, but spoken... Show more

Why College Students Drop Out Of College
Grab your backpack it is time to go! Struggling college students face many obstacles when trying
to balance classes and life. For most college students, family, money, workload, preparation, and
the pressures of life are a few of the reasons that students drop out of college.
Being prepared for college takes time, effort and even research. Not only do young college

responsible enough to make sure that they get to class on time and complete assignments. Being
prepared ahead of time will save many long hours of worry; for example, practice getting up early

Case 41, MoGen, Inc. Finance 675
David Biggs, Amanda McAllaster, Jake Unruh, Andy Rao
Background Information
MoGen is a leading company in the recently surging biotechnology industry that specializes in
human therapeutic drugs that help offset the damaging effects of chemotherapy for cancer patients.
The business model for all biotech companies is fairly similar: through extensive R D, create new
medical drugs, obtain FDA approval and product patents and launch them into the market.
In order to achieve profitability and increase the likelihood of FDA approval for their various
projects, MoGen must ensure a consistent supply of cash to fund R D efforts and maintain
financial flexibility in the face of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since repurchases reduce the shares outstanding, it kept the EPS relatively steady despite the
dilutive effects on EPS from the convertibles.
The share repurchase also provided a positive signal to the market that the company viewed its stock
as undervalued, a strategy that could encourage investors to increase their positions in the firm.
Fund Usage and Firm Needs in 2006
By 2006, MoGen needed an additional $10 billion of funding for various projects that aimed to
improve manufacturing capacity and processes, formulation, fill and finish capacity, investment in
R D and late stage trials, acquisition and licensing, and stock repurchasing.
To improve manufacturing processes and reduce supply risks, the firm estimated a $1 billion R D,
a vital component of the business needed a 30% increase in funding, totaling to an additional $3
billion. Mogen was also looking to acquire Genix, Inc. and their intellectual capital for
approximately $2 billion. Finally, the management team also wanted to maintain the share
repurchase program and expected to spend $3.5 billion.
All of these projects add up to a total of roughly $10 billion. Internally generated funds were
estimated to be $5 billion from net income and depreciation, requiring MoGen to find the other half
of the funding from a different source.
In search of additional funding, MoGen considered raising the $5 billion by issuing

Tennessee Williams (Childhood)
At a young age, Williams often skipped school to avoid being bullied.
He endured the teasing not only from the other children there, but from teachers as well. They
mocked him for being the newcomer, for his Southern accent, for his diminutive stature, and for
his reluctance to play the rough and tumble games expected of boys. I can remember gangs of kids
following me home yelling, Sissy! (Bloom 17).

Was The American Revolution Justified
There is a debate that has gone on for decades and is still without a definitive answer. That
burning question is as follows: were the original Patriots justified in their cause for revolution?
The obvious answer is yes, the Patriot cause for revolution was justified. This is for multiple
reasons but there are three big ones. The first is that the 13 colonies were taxed very unfairly. This
is because they had no one in parliament to represent them, so when they were taxed, they had no
voice in it. The second reason is that there were multiple acts imposed upon the colonies that were
unfair and borderline unethical. These include the intolerable acts, specifically the quartering acts,
which violated what you and I see as basic rights. The third... Show more content on

Their first reason of this is that they think that since Great Britain protected the colonists, they are
obligated to pay taxes. Their evidence of this comes from where Thomas Whately says in a
pamphlet written by him, where he says, they should contribute to the Preservation of the
Advantages they have received This is in regard to the so called protection the British have
apparently provided the colonists. Their second point is that since Britain fought to protect the
land they live on, they must pay taxes to pay them back; their evidence of this is a quote from
George Greenville, a member of British parliament. He had said Our nation has run itself into a
massive debt to give them this protection and now they are called upon to contribute a small share
towards this expense This is talking about the French and Indian war, and is saying that the
colonists should help to pay back the expenses of the war. The evidence confirming that the Patriots
were justified, however, disproves this argument that the Patriots were not justified on their
revolution against the British, because Britain is in debt because of the war, yes, but it was mostly
colonists who fought it. Sure the colonies are protected by the British, but they cannot tax them
without any kind of representation in

African Americans And African American Community
As seen through time, African Americans have been at a disadvantage when it comes to accessing
funds that are available to most people. This however has not stopped them from creating and
accessing help that supports and aids their families. Through communal efforts, African Americans
have been able to create mutual aid for themselves. In these communities, there are many sectors
that have been built, but the main reason many are making it or able to afford and do what they are
currently doing is through the help of the various communities and organizations that came about.
Throughout each decade there have been forms of aid created solely for African Americans. Before
slavery, when African Americans were still in Africa, the communities were thriving economically
and socially. Africa produced a plethora of advanced civilizations. Although Europeans like to credit
themselves for the spread of Christianity, Christianity was in Ethiopia long before the Europeans
came. As one can see through time, church is an important communal and distinctive quality of the
African Americancommunity. In his book, West African Religion: A Study of the Beliefs and
Practices of Akan, Ewe, Yoruba, Ibo, and Kindred Peoples, Geoffrey Parrinder explains, Africa had
a history, long before the Europeans came to our shores... Religion is a fundamental, perhaps the
most important, influence in the life of most Africans (Parrinder 1). African Americans already had

The Sex Trade Still Exists
No one said life would be easy. Every day is filled with trials and tribulations which must be
overcome to get to the next. What we face here in the United States is, as we see it, extreme. We
see homeless people, families struggling to get by, stock market failing, gas prices rising,
unemployment going up, and much more. But elsewhere, their struggles are different. Their
obstacles in life are more challenging than our measly problems in this first worldcountry. The sex
trade still exists, slavery among women and children, trafficking of girls and drugs, and so
much more. From the book Sold by Patricia McCormick comes a story about a girl named
Lakshmi and her struggles from the mountains of Nepal carried to Happiness House where she
was sold into the sex trade, and through it all is able to learn that, simply to endure, is to triumph
(16). Lakshmi grew up a poor mountain girl in a village in Nepal. From an early age she was
willing to do whatever it took to get a tin roof for her family. Let me go to the city. I can work for a
rich family...and send my wages home to you (1). Having a tin roof in their village meant they
had some money and they would be safe and dry form the rain. However, Lakshmi s stepfather
gambled away everything he owned and eventually even Lakshmi. Lakshmi lived and learned in a
Patriarchal world. From early on she was taught by Ama, her mother, what her identity in the world

gross. The lunchladies go around the lunch room and ask each table are you guys going to eat

Summary Of Buchi Emecheta s Novel Kehinde
Buchi Emecheta tells of a woman s search for independence in her book Kehinde. The story
begins as Albert and Kehinde Okolo have been living in London for 18 years as a couple. When
Albert s sisters begin pressuring him to return to Nigeria, Kehinde resists the idea as their two
children have never been to Nigeriaand plus the fact that she found out that she is pregnant. But
because of Albert s insistence, she decided to get an abortion. Albert then leaves and Kehinde
remains behind to sell the house which was ordered by her husband. Later on, he calls their
children also to Nigeria. Kehinde is lonely at first but manages on her own. Eventually, she
begins to feel like a half person without Albert and so she gives up her job and departs for
Nigeria. On her arrival, she is horrified to learn that during their two year separation, Albert now
has a second wife. Kehinde decides to return to England and establish a life for herself there.
Kehinde s troubled relationship to Albert and her children are paralleled in her recollections of a
difficult childhood: Kehinde s twin was stillborn and her mother died at birth, prompting the family
to believe that she had eaten her sister. It s a story that she at first accepts, but as she becomes her
own womanshe rejects its superstitious quality. Some of the themes of the story are Feminism,
Masculinity, Patriarchy, Culture Clashes and Identity.
Kehinde relishes the freedom she has as a woman living in Britain, a freedom she knows she
would not have had in Nigeria. Emecheta makes us very aware of this when she writes, Kehinde
was aware that she could talk to her husband less formally than women like her sister. She related
to Albert as a friend, a compatriot, a confidant. (page 6) However, with her son Joshua newly
returned from Nigeria with strong patriarchal values, Kehinde s freedoms as a woman are
challenged as Joshua sees the house as his natural right as a man. However, Kehinde is unwilling
to allow her son to dominate her. She asserts: This is my house. (137) The last few pages of the
novel emerge as a power play between mother and son. In fact the last chapter, where Kehinde and
her son fight for dominance over the house is aptly named The Rebel , as Kehinde

What power did the individual states maintain? Who was given more power, the national
government or the individual states? What were the implications of such a balance?
The states were willing to concede to concede to taxing with the states consent and also congress s
consent (Article V/II Section 25 29).
The individual states had quite a bit of power. It says how the states are in charge of supplying
money to a national government treasury. (How much money you put in depends on how big or
small your state is). The states had to agree upon taxes for paying for warfare as well, the national
government hadn t just forced these ideas upon them. (Article VIII Section 15 18).
The states had more power because the people had a say in how much money was used. The
Articles of Confederation said that the colonists had more control (because the states had
representatives) over the decisions that were being made. Overall, the states had to give their
consent to the national government in order for the national government to enforce it. This is
significant because they were ruled finally under a fair and just government whirr they had a say

Office Space And Bartleby Comparison
Office Space is a modern, Hollywood driven adaptation of Herman Melville s 1853 short story
Bartleby. It revives Melville s story by imagining modern equivalents for the major themes and
characters of the original. Whiling comparing the works of Office Space and Bartleby , many
similarities and differences are shown.
Although years passed between the creation of the classic short story and the film, they both
possess similarities in plot, theme, and character development. Bartleby begins in an older office at
the start of the industrial age, and Office Space begins in an office during the compelling cubicle
employment days. In the beginning of Bartleby , the narrator, whom is the lawyer in the book,
introduces the characters early to allow an understanding of the characters and what to expect
during the reading. Mirror this to Office Space as the characters are also introduced early on in the
reading.
The working atmospheres for Bartleby and Office Space are occupied by employees who seem to

Melville chose to literate the reading in first person narrative by the lawyer, Bartleby s employer.
His choice of the lawyer allows the reader to feel close to Bartleby, but remain mystified by him.
On the contrary, Office Space is told through Peter s eyes.
Unlike Bartleby, Peter cares to interact with others and to take part in a social life. Upon one
morning of ignoring phone calls from Anne, who leaves him and admits she s been cheating, Peter
decides to skip work and ask Joanna, a waitress out to lunch. Along with lunch dates, Joana joins
Peter at his apartment to watch Kung Fu together. According to the narrator, Bartleby does not
seem to leave the office. He does not eat anything but ginger nuts, the cakes that Ginger Nut
himself delivers to the clerks. It is clear how both characters occupy different social lives from each

Comparing Plato And Beauty By Hofstadter And Kuhns
Talon Kingfisher Dr. McKeon Art Theory 2 23 February, 2017 Plato and Ion To Plato, the world
and mind set is a mimesis of the true absolute world. That all shapes found by definition here is
transcendent in the realm that is greater and above this reality. When applying this belief of
ideal concepts in forms to our world, Plato then can theorize importance of professions here
based on its direction to those praised forms above. In Art Beauty by Hofstadter and Kuhns, Plato
s written works from 400 B.C. can map out his philosophy on artworks. We particularly find that
Plato creates a distinction between poetry and art works as two different classes. Plato seeks a
higher reality than the imminent one around us, therefore, everything he finds of art and anything
else here in this reality will ultimately be based on its true form. We can find these answers in Ion
when the famed minstrel, named Ion, asks of Plato to explain why he only stays... Show more

In the Republic, Plato centers any form of creating something as poiesis no matter what is being
created. He states that anyone who creates is then in Greek, poietai what we today call call
poets. Therefore, having a basis in names, art and poetry are similar in that they both are a form
of creating by us no matter if we technically crafted it or was possessed and forced to make the
art. Poetry does not follow the three main things to create techne listed from Plato, but lacks one
rule leaving it similar, but not the same. We can assemble poetry with our minds making it our
media we use; the skill is in the creating process of using the mind to make the words of poetry.
Then there is the knowledge or understanding in how to manipulate the medium. This is the
training to make a chair or to make a table and it is in lack of when referring to poetry because
Plato believes the knowledge of such to come from the Gods allowance, and not from our own

Research On The Learning Of An Educational Setup Essay
1.0 Introduction
New Zealand social researchers Carl Davidson and Martin Tolich (1999) point out that research
fulfils three roles exploring, describing and explaining (as cited in Mutch, 2005, p. 16). Research
helps to add more qualitative information to an existing body of knowledge or helps to decipher a
problem existing in an educational setup. Sometimes, research tends to bring into light certain issues
that required attention. Baumfield and Butterworth (2005) suggest that engagement in research by
teachers has a positive impact on the learning of the pupils in their classrooms (as cited in Menter,
Elliot, Hulme, Lewin, Lowden, 2011, p. 14).
Having taught General Science to primary and middle school students (ages 9 11) and Chemistry
to secondary section students (ages 13 15), I have observed a change in the students approach
towards the study of Science. As the students progressed to higher grades, they started losing their
interest in science. Applying scientific concepts in practical scenarios became a challenging
process and yet, many continued to study science simply due to the pressure of choosing a career
in the field of medicine or engineering.
2.0 Aim of my research
As a science teacher, lesson planning involves setting specific learning objectives and predicting the
expected outcomes. On learning a scientific concept, the students are taught to build up on the
concept and eventually look at the final scientific theory that resonates with their

The release of the film in 1999 marked a new phase in the creation of films. The Blair Witch Project set a benchmark for production of films of different genres, especially for horror movies. Since the 1980s, the horror movies have changed dramatically. With every new experience through innovation, in the filmindustry, the horror films are expected to change with time, and in a whole new dimension. • 4. Knowledge Management Strategy And Metrics Knowledge Management Strategy Metrics Knowledge management often involves isolating and planning intellectual assets within an organization, producing new knowledge for competitive advantages within the organization, making vast amounts of corporate information accessible. Knowledge management can be hard to interpret or explain. How would a nurse or doctor define health care succinctly? How would a CEO explain management? Each of these areas is very complex, with many sub areas of specialization. This in turn leads to the question What is Knowledge ManagementStrategy Metrics ? What Is Knowledge? Some may ask, aren t we managing knowledge already? Truth is, no! We are actually just making a really huge mess of managing information. Knowledge has two simple explanations of interest. The first part deals with a defined body of information. Depending on the meaning, the body of the information might consist of facts, opinions, ideas, theories, principles, and models. Knowledge also refers to a person s state of being with respect to some body of information. These states include; ignorance, awareness, familiarity, understanding, facility, and so on (Barclay, R., Murray, P. (1997). In traditional perceptions of the role of knowledge in business organizations, tacit knowledge is often viewed as the real key to getting things done and creating new value. There are two forms of knowledge that can be found in any organization: Explicit Formal codified ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Iraq War Recovery Level three difficulty of recovery. The Iran Iraq War is the only case study of a level three disaster within this review. It is considered a one of a kind and instrumental surprise (Mitchell, 1996). A level three disaster is the most difficult to respond to and recover from. Some acts of war mimicked industrial disasters that occur during peacetime. Fires and explosions are examples of these types of surprises that occurred. Other wartime acts included deliberate destruction and contamination by chemical weapons (Mitchell, 1996). The wartime period was prolonged, but many attacks were focused on small land areas. The long term effects of the war included damage to sewage systems and subsequent poor sanitation leading to gastrointestinal disturbances and degraded health. Environmental effects of the war were not well monitored, but some observations could be made. Bombings accounted for destruction of forests, date palm orchards, and pasture land. Some farmlands remain unusable due to contamination from toxic weapons. Bombings of oil rigs in the gulf caused much oil contamination of the ocean, leading to destruction of the prawn fishing industry (Mitchell, 1996). A believer can tell someone about their horrible past, but if they did not know the believer before they were a believer, the testimony could fall flat. Additionally, it is an non provable method, since it is a personal feeling or experience the person is describing, not concrete proof. Finally, there is an issue with duplication by other religions, meaning that other religious believers have a testimony and experience to share, as well. Relying solely on the experiential apologetics leaves the apologist open to a myriad of problems with proof and deniability of their testimony. CONCLUSION Experiential apologetics proposes that knowledge of God and his grace has to come from a personal experience which then leads to acceptance of God s truth expressed in the Scriptures. This personal experience may come from a testimony of a believer to an unbeliever, or through direct experience of a non believer causing them to become a believer. While several proponents of this method have developed different interpretations of the form over time, the basic principle still remains valid that a shared experience can help to save a lost soul. Although experiential apologetics are considered one of the personal and intimate forms of apologetics, it is also considered one of the weakest forms due to

  • 11. Microscopy Essay The resolution of optical microscopes is fundamentally limited by the diffraction of light, as postulated by German physicist Ernst Abbe in 1873. This means that a microscope cannot distinguish two objects located closer than О»/2NA, where О» is the wavelength of light and NA is the numerical aperture of the imaging lens (2). Although elucidation of cell functions and subcellular processes has benefited from advances in fluorescent microscopy, this diffractionlimit has fundamentally hindered optical microscopy for over a century (1). Recently, however, several new developments in imaging have emerged which can circumvent this limit. By delivering optical images with spatial resolutions below the diffraction limit super resolution microscopy techniques now permits biologists to visualize structures and processes of cells at the molecular level, down to several nanometers. This incredible improvement in spatial resolution has allowed biologists to address important new questions requiring resolutions below 250nm, involving details such as the fine architecture of cell structures, focal adhesions, microtubules, and coated vesicles. Internal dynamic processes can also now be studied, including the movement of focal adhesion complexes and bacteria polarity complexes (3). Super resolution techniques used for live cell imaging studies can generally be divided into three categories: those based on highly localized fluorescence emission volumes; those based on structured illumination; ... Even those who do not play any video games tend to know that blizzard commands a legion of followers, I know that throughout high school I logged ridiculous hours into their game Diablo II which was a top selling game of the time. In gaming the Blizzard Company has created more top ranked games bringing in more money than most people can truly fathom. When all is said and done what is the true value of such a company, how much money do they control in our economy? Who is it that can rival such a behemoth of a company? Within these few pages I will try to encompass the mass of this company, what it is that drives them and to what extent their influence travels within our world and perhaps beyond. Although Blizzard was created in 1991 it was not public, it was not until September, 30 1993 that it was made a publically traded company. Upon its first day of trading it commanded a price of only eighty three cents per share. Today it has a price of over thirty five dollars per share with a record high price of $38.71 just a week ago. Considering the price it started at this is a remarkable feat, this company started small and has weathered some of the worst economic storms we have seen in our history. Though we have recovered a great deal since the housing market collapse, as a whole the market recently has been going down across all boards I believe as a result of the oil prices ... Indeed this idea goes back all throughout history, existing from biblical times, to those of the French Revolution, continuing on with Stalin s Soviet Union, and still existing today in our society. These norms define what actions and reactions are appropriate for any situation, as well as providing a basis on which different classes can properly live their lives. However, sometimes these norms contain questionable content that, when viewed, is found to be harmful to their way of live, destructive of their culture, and detrimental to their freedom and rights to the pursuit of happiness. • 16. Essay on The Drawer Boy Written By: Presented to: Course Code: Date: The Art of Violence: Healey s Character Representation in The Drawer Boy Reviewed by Word Press critic Michael Dykstra, the Canadian play The Drawer Boy, by Michael Healey, has been suggested to be a play containing no violence (Dykstra); however, this conclusion deserves further analysis. In the play, the author uses violence as a way to create an identity for Angus, a main character, as well as a method to develop Angus s character. Through this play, Healey creates a personality for Angus that, although innocent at first, evolves through his exposure to violence and establishes within him an aggressive disposition. In the first two scenes of they play, Healey portrays Angus as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What if the voice in your head is just some voice? Angus exposure to the violent play enables the resurfacing of a moral self that is proven through this setting to have already been a part of Angus identity. No matter all of the positive that Healey allows his audience to unravel about Angus character, he also informs the reader of a trace of negative that lies within. It cannot be ignored that the drawer boy s character chose to go to war; therefore, he put himself in a violent situation. Morgan even reminds Angus that You were about to go to university... Although Healey gives no evidence that Angus killed anyone and mostly mentions him and Morgan mostly goofing off during the war, they both joined the army where it goes without saying that they will be trained to defend and kill. It is safe for the audience to assume that Angus knows what war is and that it involves taking lives; nonetheless, he still made the decision to join in the army. Happiness is individual and personal, but the actions that people take to achieve happiness effect everyone in society. In this essay, I will investigate the standards for happiness utilizing John Stuart Mills Utilitarianism. Happiness is available to all people at different levels, with clear objective standards at its most basic levels but with only subjective standards at its higher levels. He states, Human beings have higher faculties than the animal appetites, and once they become conscious of them they don t regard anything as happiness that doesn t include their gratification (Mill, 5). This comparison is important, as it serves as a concrete example of more desirable pleasures. Humans mental pleasures are also dependent on their respective faculties. The higher the person s faculties, the higher more required for the person to be happy. This individual quality of happiness is therefore subjective as the two people can achieve the same understood level of happiness with significantly different mental cultivations. A person who cultivates their mind daily and understands more about philosophy is happier, but a person with lower faculties is unable to understand this level of happiness. These human pleasures of the mind are much more superior to animalistic pleasures. Soon enough, the newly purchased land of western territory became six states and portions of nine present day states. As one could imagine this great purchase did not happen without a buildup of time, and without many factors leading up to the Louisiana Purchase. Below are a couple of factors such as the Spanish control of New Orleans and Napoleon s burning desire for the Caribbean Island of Haiti. To begin, the borders of this territory was made up of the east side of the Mississippi River, the Gulf of Mexico on the south, the Rocky Mountains on the west and Canada along the northern border. In a publication titled Black Women in Academe , author Yolanda Moses describes how isolation, invisibility, hostility, indifference, and a lack of understanding of the Black women s experiences are all too often part of the climate Black women may face on campuses (Moses, 1989). The detrimental environment surrounding these women frequently results in sullenness, lack of social assertiveness, and belief that they are less competent than male students. Even if time spent at an academic institution is minimal, with this kind of prejudice faced at an early age, any woman black or otherwise, would suffer the rest of their life. In response to the discrimination faced at universities, some have created programs to aid black students and other minorities; these programs tend to generalize the needs of all its black students and do not fully support black women specifically. Double discrimination and its effects are not only seen in academe. Social injustice occurs in any situation where people are treated unequally and includes discrimination and racism. For much of the twentieth century, crime and punishment have provided some of the most powerful symbols of racial divide in America (Rosich, 2007). At the back was the three bank teller windows for handling transactions in person. There were also two offices to left side of the lobby for handling new accounts and loans. On the right side of the lobby was a hallway that led to some the back offices, the employee lounge and the vault. Then he took a deep breath and quickly jumped out into the lobby with the gun pointed directly at the gunman. Put the gun down! He yelled. Then the shorter masked person quickly grabbed a crying woman who was cowering behind some chairs. The woman screamed some more as a knife was brought up to her throat. This specific Krater is called the Calyx Krater because of the way the handles are shaped. The handles curve upwards, resembling a calyx of a flower. The Calyx krater was painted in red figure meaning red depictions on a black background. Red figure artwork replaced the easier black figure artwork which is its opposite. To create a red figure art piece you must start with a slip to outline the figures. Once complete, the piece gets fired in three stages. The first turns the whole vase red and fixes the color to the vase. The second step is to reduce the oxygen in the kiln to a minimum, this turns the piece black. The final step... Euphronios paid very close attention to how Sarpedon died and carefully recreated his body. This attention to detail showcases the violent and spontaneous death of Sarpedon in the Trojan War. Euphronios also composed the painting in a way that I believe to show the dignity and honor of dying in battle. According to Homers Iliad, Zeus tells Hermes to call sleep and death to the battle where Sarpedon had been injured. Euphronios knew of this detail and I believe that is what he is depicting. Following Euphronios past of painting mythological scenes, this makes sense. On the reverse side of the Vase is the depiction of young men suiting up for battle. In the time period of which this vase is created, it wasn t uncommon for youth to fight. Often the culture relied on the blending of old and young. When you first look and read the title of the theme I choose, it may cross your mind that my theme has something to do with religion. Meditating Buddha from Gandhara and Theotokos of Vladimirmay come from different cultural traditions; however they both share the same general theme of picturing the divines. The Meditating Buddha or Seated Buddha from Gandhara is an early statue of Buddha from Gandhara, Pakistan. This work of art is from the Culture of Buddhism and was made around the 2nd or 3rd century. That burning question is as follows: were the original Patriots justified in their cause for revolution? The obvious answer is yes, the Patriot cause for revolution was justified. This is for multiple reasons but there are three big ones. The first is that the 13 colonies were taxed very unfairly. This is because they had no one in parliament to represent them, so when they were taxed, they had no voice in it. The second reason is that there were multiple acts imposed upon the colonies that were unfair and borderline unethical. These include the intolerable acts, specifically the quartering acts, which violated what you and I see as basic rights. The third... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their evidence of this comes from where Thomas Whately says in a pamphlet written by him, where he says, they should contribute to the Preservation of the Advantages they have received This is in regard to the so called protection the British have apparently provided the colonists. Their second point is that since Britain fought to protect the land they live on, they must pay taxes to pay them back; their evidence of this is a quote from George Greenville, a member of British parliament. He had said Our nation has run itself into a massive debt to give them this protection and now they are called upon to contribute a small share towards this expense This is talking about the French and Indian war, and is saying that the colonists should help to pay back the expenses of the war. Comparing Plato And Beauty By Hofstadter And Kuhns Talon Kingfisher Dr. McKeon Art Theory 2 23 February, 2017 Plato and Ion To Plato, the world and mind set is a mimesis of the true absolute world. That all shapes found by definition here is transcendent in the realm that is greater and above this reality. When applying this belief of ideal concepts in forms to our world, Plato then can theorize importance of professions here based on its direction to those praised forms above. In Art Beauty by Hofstadter and Kuhns, Plato s written works from 400 B.C. can map out his philosophy on artworks. We particularly find that Plato creates a distinction between poetry and art works as two different classes. Research On The Learning Of An Educational Setup Essay 1.0 Introduction New Zealand social researchers Carl Davidson and Martin Tolich (1999) point out that research fulfils three roles exploring, describing and explaining (as cited in Mutch, 2005, p. 16). Research helps to add more qualitative information to an existing body of knowledge or helps to decipher a problem existing in an educational setup. Sometimes, research tends to bring into light certain issues that required attention. Baumfield and Butterworth (2005) suggest that engagement in research by teachers has a positive impact on the learning of the pupils in their classrooms (as cited in Menter, Elliot, Hulme, Lewin, Lowden, 2011, p. 14). Having taught General Science to primary and middle school students (ages 9 11) and Chemistry to secondary section students (ages 13 15), I have observed a change in the students approach towards the study of Science. As the students progressed to higher grades, they started losing their interest in science. Applying scientific concepts in practical scenarios became a challenging process and yet, many continued to study science simply due to the pressure of choosing a career in the field of medicine or engineering. 2.0 Aim of my research As a science teacher, lesson planning involves setting specific learning objectives and predicting the expected outcomes.
