Disruption Reflection
For my global engagement event, I attended the showing of the film, Disruption, followed by a brief
discussion session. This movie aired at Global Commons sponsored by the Office of Sustainability at
Elon University, specifically their student Eco Reps. The event began at seven o clock on Tuesday,
September 19th.
This film depicts the devastating effects of human activity in modern society on the environment
resulting in global climate change creating extreme weather events such as floods, tornadoes,
droughts, and hurricanes. Change in Earth s overall temperature is difficult to conceptualize because
its long term effects do not present urgency in most people s minds; consequentially, the film discloses
the lack of concern for environmental issues throughout government agencies and most citizens. Even
with the recent international industrial pledge to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the objectives are
poorly defined and lack the intensity to reverse the damage. Incorporating both the scientific and
governmental explanation of climate change, the film illustrates the tremendous positive impact
civilian activists can accomplish. For example, the activists are planning the first major climate
change march and rallying local citizens behind a common goal to create meaningful change.
Following the movie the Eco Reps initiated a discussion session regarding Elon s impact on the
environment and specific ways students can alter their habits to make positive change such as
recycling, turning off electronics when not in use, and eating less meat. Although most of the students
were impressed with the measures Elon incorporates to be sustainable, I think the majority of the
student body during their daily lives do not consider environmental issues; thus, students perspectives
on climate change need to be altered.
I selected this topic because I am passionate about reducing climate change and limiting its
devastating effects on our planet; hence, I attempt to spread my knowledge and concerns to persuade
others to work together for an effective solution to mitigate its effects. Not only am I an
Environmental Studies major but also as a Public Health student I am interested in the cross section

Examples Of Madness In The Streetcar Named Desire
The streetcar Named Desire is a very complex and engaging book with 3 different themes, desire and
fate, death and madness. I chose to be Blanche DuBois in scene 8 and scene 10 as it sets the
theme, madness.Like the other major themes of the play desire and fate, and death madness too was
Tennessee Williams s obsession. His sister Rose s strange behaviour which had long been a source of
anxiety to her parents, later took the form of violent sexual fantasies and accusations against her
father. Not only did Tennessee Williams feel guilty for not having saved Rose from all this, but he now
feared for his own sanity because the mental illness that afflicted Rose might be hereditary. He
certainly did have a breakdown of sorts in his early twenties. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Her illusions, the very establishment of her life, are pulverised and this reflects the rot in her energy,
status, and mental limit. Toward the begin of the play, she is obviously indicated to be somebody who
is clutching the picture of an advanced and dainty character that originates from a distinguished
society however by Scene 10, she has ended up completely mindful that this is a daydream which is
the reason she hammers the mirror face down at the very begin of the scene as she has understood that
she is not able to trick herself any longer. At the point when Stanley shows up, she is compelled to
envision that she has gotten a telegram from Shep Huntleigh with a specific end goal to escape the
truth that she is being constrained out by Stanley and that Mitch generally won t needs her. At the
point when Stanley poses a question about the telegram, and Blanche answers What telegram? , it gets
to be very apparent to the group of onlookers that this was all affectation; Stanley pulverises Blanche s
fancies and makes her face reality. Also, Blanche s craziness gets to be more obvious through the
shocking reflections and peculiar shadow that encompass her. Her assault symbolises her last
annihilation to the values that Stanley s general public speaks to and the termination of the ethics and
estimations of the

The Effects Of Mental Skills On Sports Psychology
Introduction The use of mental skills in sports psychology can both benefit an athlete to motivate
themselves and provide them with the self confidence to achieve although the use of these skills can
also have a negative impact on the athlete. This review of literature includes two different types of
mental skills that can be used to help an athlete in the rehabilitation process, one study to support the
concept that athletes benefit from a range of mental skills use is Arvinen Barrow et al. This study took
place in 2015, found out that 71.6% of 1283 athletes indicated that they believed mental skills helped
them to rehabilitate faster when using 3 types of mental skills (imagery, goal setting and positive self
talk). On the other hand there are studies which argue against the positives of mental skills more
specifically relaxation and imagery and one example is a study conducted by Francis, Andersen and
Maley (2000). The results from this study backed up the idea that positive self talk and positive
reinforcement from an external individual can help the rehabilitation process. However the athletes
used in this study did not believe that other mental skills such as relaxation or imagery were
particularly useful in the rehabilitation phase. Furthermore when athletes return to physical activity
there are theories that they are often feared of the injury occurring again and may not give themselves
the best chance to perform at their previous standards. The following examples of

African Americans Should Have Freedom Of Speech Persuasive...
Racism is something that has been around for a long period of time predominantly Jewish and Black
communities. Both race have been subjected to hate due to the color of their skin, or race that they are.
Genocide and slavery have been apart of the black and Jewish community due to the amount of hate
that the were toward them races. Because of all the racism that was going on between there were many
speeches and many marches Held in predominantly Jewish and Black communities. Many of the
marches that took placed played a big part in the freedom of these to races especially for the African
American communities. Many of these speeches would have never been able to have taken place if we
did not have freedom of speech here in the united states. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What I find to be very interesting about the first amendment is that because we have freedom of
speech the Klu Klux Klan also known as the KKK are able to hold meetings and speeches that they
have against the black communities. I agree that people here in the United States of America should be
able to have freedom of speech but do I agree that that KKK should be able to hold hate marches and
speeches? Will this is a very difficult question for me to answer because I am an African American, so
my first answer is to say no, but when I use my critical thinking that I have learned in this class I say
yes they should be able to hold Hate speech. I look back to the famous speech in the black
communities that were held to lead our way to freedom such as the I Have a dream Speech by martin

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, A Prolific Writer Of Concertos
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, 1757 1791, was a prolific writer of concertos, composing 27 piano
concertos. Throughout his writing he developed the use of the cadenza, highlighting the performer s
talent with a virtuosic passage. Not all Mozart s cadenzas have survived therefore future composers
have attempted to recreate these passages, often reflecting the period in which they were written.
Cadenza comes from the Latin Cadere , to fall and broadly means a flourish at the end of a single
melodic line. In the Medieval period pieces contained flourishes to enhance their final cadences,
though few were notated. This is the cadenza in its earliest form. In late seventeenth century opera the
improvised cadenza was purely virtuosic notes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this is in the first movement of C.P.E. Bach s Harpsichord Concerto in G major H475
below.
Ex. 1: Obbligato cadenzas in C.P.E. Bach Harpsichord Concerto, H 475, First Movement. By the mid
eighteenth century the cadenza had become an established element of the concerto, a tradition
contributed to by the fact that the cadenza added drama, created contrast between the tutti and solo
performer and created a conclusion. Most cadenzas were at a cadential six four, placed toward the
final solo section of the movement as shown above.
Mozart was an influential composer in the eighteenth century, composing many of his works for the
pianoforte. Mozart s early cadenzas do not usually quote from the movement within which they were
written. These generic cadenzas often consist of scales and arpeggios which, in theory, could be
transferred for use in another concerto in similar tempo and key. This happens in the cadenza of the
first movement of K. 238 in B flat major which is made of regular scales and consists of no real
thematic material relating to the work.
As the eighteenth century improvised cadenza began to develop, the passages became longer and more
virtuosic. Mozart and Daniel Turk (1750 1813), notable composer, organist, scholar and peer of
Quantz, both disagreed with this, believing that the new cadenzas were distracting from the work.

Application Of Dgs For Local Network Stability
Introduction: Due to increased concern on energy crisis and environmental issues, power industry is
shifting their power production from conventional power sources to renewable energy sources, and is
incorporating it into the grid utility in the form of distributed generations (DGs). The application of
DGs can enhance reliability and stability of the local network, and can reach benefit to the supplier by
reducing system losses and investment on a new transmission line due to increased power
consumption [1]. Power generation in the form of DGs for local and grid utility can create issues as
many as it may solve. Therefore, a microgrid concept is evolved to coordinate among sources, loads,
and energy storage devices for maintaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inverters are able to supply controlled voltage and frequency depending on the control algorithms [3].
The characteristics of inverters are significantly different from the conventional generators; therefore,
specific control algorithms are required for a stable microgrid operation [4, 5].
There are a number of publications on droop based control for facilitating high reliability and avoiding
complexity of a supervisory control system [6, 12]. The droop based control algorithms are popular
due to their coordination capability among various power rating units together with flexibility and
reliability. The concept of droop based power control is valid for the both high voltage (HV)
transmission line and low voltage (LV) distribution line, although it has some limitations.
Problem formulation: To achieve consumer satisfaction in power supply and harness renewable
energy, microgrids design and control are essential issues for reliable operation. As the characteristics
of the distribution network and high volume power electronics penetration into the network are
significantly different from the conventional power system, several issues are raised. Some of the
issues, which are a promised field for future research, are described shortly below:
Distribution network: In a LV distribution network, the well known P/f droop control requires much
more effort than the P/V droop because predominated resistive network that naturally connects active

Similarities And Similarities Between Francis Bacon And...
The personal lives of great artists are often the most tragic; neglectful parents, drug addictions, failed
relationships, and mental instability seem to the most common tropes. The British painter Francis
Bacon and Anna Kavan, born as Helen Woods, are no exception. The similarities between their
personal lives and artistic creations are striking. Both had the misfortune of neglectful parents, both
moved from country to country throughout their lives, both were addicted to either heroin or alcohol,
but both created gruesome and masterful works of art. Anna Kavan s mother was detached and
negligent. Both of Kavan s two marriages failed. She became addicted to heroin in her twenties as a
way to self medicate for her depression. She spent time in insane asylums towards the end of her life.
Francis Bacon s parents were far from caring; his father exiled him after Bacon expressed his
homosexuality. After being entrusted to the care of a family friend, he fell in love with the older man
that whisked him around the European continent. He began painting after seeing an exhibit of Pablo
Picasso s work and took many years to find success with this trade. Often he resorted to alcohol and
held private, and very illegal, gambling clubs to make a sort of income. He entered an extremely
mentally and physically abusive relationship. These adversities from personal lives influenced the
work of both individuals to a tremendous degree. Characters in Kavan s stories are frequently a kind
of autobiography Anna Kavan was one of her character s names that Helen Woods eventually adopted
after a mental breakdown. Francis Bacon s work pictured many of his acquaintance and lovers, scenes
of homosexuality, and scenes of pain. Understanding the individual s personal circumstances adds a
new layer of meaning and interpretation to their creations. A most encompassing comparison of the
two individuals is that they both produced works of cosmic horror; however, it is not entirely the
typical Lovecraftian horror associated with the genre. Bacon s paintings as visual experiences are
quite unlike other works considered to be cosmic horror; however, their unconventionality does not
exclude them. Rather than focusing on the fear of the

The Flaw Of A Computer Environment
One of the most common flaws in a computer environment is that of password strength. This can be
controlled through a minimum strength requirement as discussed later with the use of Active Directory
(see: Additional Network). In computer terms, password strength is evaluated as bits. As a general
rule, the more bits a password contains, the longer it would take to break (Profis, 2012). According to
the MSDN, the ... use of strong passwords can slow or defeat the various attack methods of
compromising a [computer s] security (Microsoft Developer Network, 2006). Password Storage

Adobe Reader is a software package that allows users to open and access PDF (portable document

There are only two available, scoring moderately high (5.0 and 7.5). The two vulnerabilities identified
are an Exec Code Overflow which allows attackers to execute code as previously mentioned with the
Adobe software, and also there is a vulnerability which gives access to personal information.

Rumination, Hope and Depression
Depression is one of the most common mental health problems encountered by adult men and women
(Kessler, Chiu, Demler, Walters, 2005; World Health Organisation [WHO], 2009). Affecting
approximately 121 million individuals worldwide, depression is within the top five leading causes of
disease and disability (WHO, 2009). Andrade et al. (2003) indicated that the prevalence of depression
among adults worldwide ranged between 1.2% and 10% among 10 different countries, with seven of
the ten countries clustered between the ranges of 3.5% to 5.9%. Within Australia, 12 month prevalence
rates for adults (16 85 years) for a depressive episode was 4.4% and for dysthymia was 1.3%, with

Those that do not meet diagnostic criteria for depressive disorders but have subthreshold depression
can still experience considerable psychological suffering (Cuijpers, de Graaf, van Dorsselaer, 2004;
Rapaport et al., 2002), and harmful implications for quality of life (Goldney, Fisher, Grande, Taylor
2004; Gotlib, Lewinsohn, Seeley, 1995).
Subthreshold depression has been characterised as the presence of depressive symptoms occurring in
individuals who do not meet diagnostic criteria for Major Depressive Disorder or Dysthymic Disorder
(APA, 2000; Cuijpers Smit, 2004; Kessler, Zhao, Blazer, Swartz, 1997; Judd, Rapaport, Paulus,
Brown, 1994). Subthreshold depression can be defined as scoring above cut off scores on self rating
depression scales or meeting DSM IV TR criteria for Minor Depression (Cuijpers Smit, 2004).
Symptoms of subthreshold depression can impact on an individual s emotions (dysphoria and guilt),
cognitions (worry, self criticism, self blame), behaviours (withdrawal from social functioning,
anhedonia) and physical wellbeing (lethargy, changes in weight) (APA, 2000).

An Exchange Of Royal Correspondence Analysis
An Exchange of Royal Correspondence is about two rulers of the different countries, who were
exchanging letters. In this particular piece of historic event the King Louis XIV of France was asking
for permission of the King of Tokin so France could spread their Christianity in Vietnam. But the King
of Tokin denied the permission because in Vietnam there existed an ancient religion. The historian
needs to ask questions about these documents to make sure that they are not biased or wrote on
different perspectives. For example, they should ask to the King of Tokin how important is for his
people their religion? This question reflects on the reason behind his denied to convert into
Christianity. Another question that a historian may ask to the King

Comparing Elder Care Between The West And The East
Abstract: As the aging population is increasing in the world very rapidly it is interesting to examine
how different countries and cultures treat as well as take care of their vulnerable citizens. This essay
will make an attempt to look at the differences in elder care between the west and the east.
A test of people is how it behaves toward the old. It is easy to love children. Even tyrants and dictators
make a point of being fond of children. However, the affection and care for the old, the incurable, the
helpless are the true gold mines of a culture.
― Abraham Joshua Heschel
It is the intention of this paper to compare how elders are being treated both socially and economically
in the west as opposed to the eastern part of the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In eastern societies, traditional families tend to take care of their elders by giving them personal care
at home. Eastern cultures like China still adhere to traditions lie filial piety, which gives family units
their highest priority and values elders with the utmost respect. Today even that seems to be on a
downward trend as China s rapid industrialization is driving young families to the cities to work while
the older family members tend to stay back in rural areas.
Jared Diamond, a well known expert on aging and elder care in the United States notes the following:
Cultural values that emphasize respect for the elderly contrast with the lower status of the elderly in
the U.S. Older Americans are at a significant disadvantage in job applications. They also face
tremendous disadvantages in hospitals. Our hospitals have an explicit policy called age based
allocation of healthcare resources .
Even though developed countries like the United States have well defined laws protecting their
elderly. It is also common knowledge that senior citizens are in fact mistreated financially and
socially. Assisted living facilities are an expensive affair and in many cases the elderly are confined to
institutions that match with their financial situations which in turn leads to inconsistent forms of care.

The Global Sex Trade And Women As The Supplier Essay
The Global Sex Trade and Women as the Supplier
Introduction
Women involved or forced into sex work (prostitution) are striped of dignity and self worth they come
from poverty, migration and cultural backgrounds that face gender inequality (Bhat Pushpam, 2013, p.
3). Forced prostitution is a global problem but is more prevalent in poorer countries (True, 2013).
Victims of prostitution affect women and children of all ages (Bhat Pushpam, 2013, p. 3). The sex
industry thrives making billions of dollars and is funded by investors, crooked recruiters, and even
corrupt government employees (Bhat Pushpam, 2013, p. 3). Females involved in the sex trade face
inhuman treatment they are raped, demoralized, defeated and will never live a normal life again (Bhat
Pushpam, 2013, p. 3). Many women will migrate across borders in search for economic stability but
instead will be coerced into sex work (Wonders Danner, 2002). Women in poorer countries with low
social class face gender inequalities mainly because of cultural and political misguidance. Strategies
that can help prevent women from forced prostitution and sex work include higher pay, a support
system for women to get an education, and government reforms to help prevent migration and the
people that keep the industry thriving.
Effects of Poverty on Women
Sex workers can exist anywhere but are primarily more prevalent in poorer countries and women and
children who participate or who are forced into sex work do so

Street gangs are linked to crime in elementary, middle, and high schools, and even on college

gang activity such as assaults, robberies, threats and intimidation, drug distribution, and weapons
offenses (National Gang Report, 2013, p. 4). Gangs continue to commit violent crimes, including
assaults, and robberies, and threats and intimidation more so than white collar type crimes, such as
identity theft and credit card fraud (National Gang Report, 2013, p. 4). Drug trafficking was identified
as the most common criminal activity of gangs (National Gang Report, 2013, p. 4). In 2010 and 2011,
Décary Hétu1 and Morselli analyzed two popular social network sites to find the presence of gangs on
both Facebook and Twitter (p. 877). The top three gangs with the highest number of members on
Facebook in 2010 and 2011 included: Hells Angels (14,775 and 42,911), Crips (4,598 and 5,457), and
Bloods (1,993 and 3,497) (Décary Hétu1 Morselli, 2011, p. 883). As noted in the article, the number
of followers increased dramatically for Hells Angels over just a one year period. Similarly, Twitter s
top three gangs were the Bloods (47,171), Hells Angels (13,411), and the Latin Kings (6,823) (Décary

Physics Of Hot Air Balloon Experiment
Physics
The following report explains the results of a model hot air balloon experiment that replicates a
previous incident in which the temperature in the envelope was heated to a point until it was burned.
After assessing the researched and calculated data, the assertion of the air in the balloon becoming too
hot to lift the mass will be validated.
The physics related to the operation of hot air balloons is essentially the use of hot air to create a
buoyant force and generate lift. A hot air balloon is made of a large bag called the envelope, a wicker
basket or gondola hung underneath and a burner located beneath the hole in the envelope to heat the
air in the envelope. This heated air causes a buoyant force to occur (Edmonds, 2008).
When an object is submerged in a fluid, it appears to weigh less than when it is outside of the fluid.
The weight of the mass acts downwards, but when it is immersed in fluid, an upthrust or buoyant force
is exerted by the fluid upwards (Edmonds, 2008). The buoyant force occurs because the pressure in a
liquid or gas increases with increasing depth. Therefore, the pressure at the lower surface of a
submerged object is greater than the pressure at its upper surface.
Diagram 1 shows an object that has the same density as water. It is found that the object is in static
equilibrium, tending neither to rise nor sink (Nave, 2014). For this to happen, the downward
gravitational force must be balanced by a net upward force from the surrounding

What Is The View That In Domestic Policy Wolsey Was...
Do you agree with the view that in domestic policy, Wolsey was successful as the king s chief
minister?
When answering this essay I am going to measure Wolsey s success on his ability to please Henry. The
different categories which I am judging Wolsey s success are; finance, religion, law and order,
parliament and government and admin.
The first domestic policy category I am going to look at is government and admin. One of the
successful acts that Wolsey achieved in this category was centralising the local government. Doing
this brought things into the central control of the king and restored his power. Wolsey also began to
break up local magnate s power, this then transferred the more power over to Henry rather than the
magnates. Both these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

church long before the break with Rome, this pleased Henry and was a success as his chief minister.
However, the church was in need of reform and although Wolsey talked about doing it he never did,
Wolsey was a failure in the aspect of Church and Religion as he did nothing, which to the people made
it look like Henry did nothing also. Although it may look like Henry did nothing, most of the blame
was on Wolsey. Wolsey allowed Henry to gain some control and helped with his title of defender of

Coco Mademoiselle Ads
The Coco Mademoiselle ad by Chanel incorporates many explicit messages from the First Order of
Signification which can be deconstructed to reveal manipulative implicit meaning through the Second
Order of Signification . In the first explicit message the viewer sees that the signifier is that the model
is naked and is cover herself with male clothing. The signified meaning is that it is showing that the
male presence is dominant as she is covering herself with men s suspenders. This shows that even
though this is an ad meant for women the male presence influences unrealistic standards on how
everyone sees beauty towards women. The next explicit image that can be seen in the ad is the item
that they are trying to sell the bottle of perfume ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By being able to deconstruct these image based ads it has changed my reaction when I see them now,
now I m more wary of how I see them because I see the model or models as a tool to get across a
message. An example of this is when we had to deconstruct the Vogue ad what this did was show the
female model was submissive, an item to the male model and that the male is in control of the female
model as he clinches her and is in control of a yonic symbol the ball showing his dominance. It has
made me see things that are usually innocent like a beautiful model and a renowned NBA star into
seeing how he owns her and she is completely oblivious to the fact that she is being controlled by a
man and is okay with it. Another thing that this course has impacted on future ads that I ll see is the
colours in these ads. Now when I see all of these colours in these ads I would be wondering what the
ad really meant as the colours give all of the symbols more meaning. So this has showed me how
much the simplest thing like colours can have the biggest effect on the ad to make it have a completely
different meaning then what we original saw it for. The last point is how I would caution other people
about how they get manipulated by what the ad is communicating to us. I would say that these ads are

Political And Political Effects Of The European...
The European Revolutions of 1848 were sequences of republican rebellions against the monarchs,
which were thought of as the height of a sequence of political, economic, and social disasters. The
revolutions began in large urban areas and its results, particularly in France, Germany, and the
Austrian Empire, were a shock to Europe with the defeat of the European Revolutions and cause
general disenchantment with liberals. Though the revolutions spread to small rural parts, the relative
strengths of leaders, as well as the conflict between liberal and nationalist and the role of the working
class, all contributed to its impact. The revolutions of 1848 caused the most brutal and extensive
political movements that affected the political, economic, social and cultural aspects of European
nations, while aiming for democracy.
France was where the revolutions first started, when its people sought suffrage worldwide. After the

Photosynthesis and Respiration
All organisms on earth depend on photosynthesis, in which light energy is used to make sugar and
other food molecules from carbon dioxide and water. For example, plants and other photo synthesizers
need only energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide from air, and water from the soil to make the sugar
glucose. Photosynthesis is the most important chemical process on earth because it provides food for
virtually all organisms, not only for photo synthesizers but for the organisms that eat them. Plants can
capture the energy of the sun by a chemical process called photosynthesis. This chemical reaction can
be described by the following simple equation:
6CO2 + 6H2O + light energy = C6H12O6 + 6O2
The product of photosynthesis is a carbohydrate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The CO2 is converted into malic acid and then converted back to CO2 during the day when light is
present, thus producing sugars, while the stomata are closed and greatly reducing water loss. Plants
convert the energy from light into simple sugars, such as glucose. This food may be converted back to
water and carbon dioxide, releasing the stored energy through a process called respiration. This energy
is required for growth in nearly all organisms. Simple sugars are also converted to other sugars and
starches (carbohydrates) which may be transported to the stems and roots for use or storage, or they
may be used as building blocks for more complex structures, e.g. oils, pigments, proteins, cell walls,
etc. Photosynthesis is dependent on the availability of light. In other words, as sunlight increases in
intensity photosynthesis increases. This results in greater food production. Many garden crops, such as
tomatoes, respond best to maximum sunlight. Tomato production is cut drastically as light intensities
drop. Only two or three varieties of greenhouse tomatoes will produce any fruit when sunlight is
minimal in fall and spring. Water plays an important role in photosynthesis in several ways. First, it
maintains a plant s turgor or the firmness or fullness of plant tissue. Turgor pressure in a cell can be
compared to air in an inflated balloon. Water pressure or turgor is needed in plant cells to maintain
shape and ensure

Use Of Humor In Catcher In The Rye
When humor is used to convey a message or theme, the emotional response exhibited by the receivers
of the message is immensely positive. Within the Catcher in the Rye, humor is used to connect to the
reader with its more pessimistic and negative concepts, such as depression and suicidal thoughts. The
use of comedy as the tone makes the book cheerfully appealing and relatable, demonstrating how it
contributes to the overall meaning and effect. Humor within the book allows for the negative concepts
to be present, but at the same time makes the book cheerfully appealing. With comedy as the main
tone of the book, it becomes more cheerfully appealing to the reader. As the many gloomy concepts

Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation in College Students
Let s take a closer look at how motivation ties in with these intrinsic and extrinsic theories for
motivation. It is clear that motivation is one of the most prominent driving forces by which humans
pursue and ultimately achieve their goals. Motivation, quite simply, is rooted in the human instinct to
minimize pain and maximize pleasure. The characteristics of such a basic theory would usually be
about as clear cut as they come. However, motivation relies heavily on one s personal psychology as
well as specific situations. As noted before in the survey, it also has two very distinct and different
sides to it, those being intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is defined as

learning styles is one good way to help generate motivation in students, but it is only the beginning

Traumatized Literary devices are what make the story come alive and give the reader a feeling of
actually being there. The literary devices increase a reader s interest in the story and also helps keep

conflict, and flashback to put the reader in the character s shoes throughout the story. This helped us
see that the narrator thought the war was traumatizing. To begin, O brien used the literary device, Man

Sometimes Good Turns Into Evil Research Paper
Sometimes Good Turns Into Evil I believe humans are all created equally as good, but some choose to
do evil things. Everyone makes mistakes, but that s not what i mean by evil. Evil, meaning harming
others or one s self. People do evil things as a result of many things. A haunting childhood, mental
problems, struggles, or even stress. It also depends on what morals people are raised with, or if they re
raised with any. Some kids are tortured by their parents as children, and turn out to be the same way or
end up torturing other people. Some even become murderers due to so much anger built up from their
childhood. Some people are born with mental problems and hurt people without knowing the intensity
of the damage they re doing. There have been many news reports of people doing bad things, like
robbing or murdering. Jeffrey Dahmer, for example, grew up with an alcoholic father and a mother
that was too busy worrying about her marriage falling apart. He was a gay man that ended up be an
alcoholic and murdering 17 of his sexual partners. He killed those men while he was intoxicated. He

The Importance Of Flexibility In The Lens
. Why is it important for the lens in the vitreous humor to maintain flexibility? When does the

vitreous humor aids in upholding the structure of the eyeball and acts as a support for the lens

This allows the eye to be able to see objects from a distance (Than, 2016). The ciliary muscles play an

coincide with the empiricist view that there are simple ideas that are from sensory qualities and

School Uniforms Should Be Banned
School uniforms Whether you re for them or against them, this hot debate refuses to go away. It s a
great idea for school to have uniform because with uniform student can get the benefit of school. This
can also bring out the positive impact of school dress code. Uniform is required because it bring out
promotion for school safety. But there are others that don t think school you uniforms is required in
public schools. Because of anti individual s of freedom. Adding to that wearing school uniform bring
an Infringement on Students Rights. The first argument for school uniforms is that wearing school
uniforms bring out a positive impact of school dress code. According to what Woodard write that a
high school principal in Johnston County the student s demeanor is better and there are fewer
disruptions because of teasing or students being uncomfortable because of the apparel that others are

and when they come to school with the same rip pants or shirt is most likely to be one of a bully
target. Uniform takes away kids wearing the same clothes everyday but with the dress code nobody
can tell you that you wearing the same clothes because it is mandatory to wear dress code to school.
Therefore student doesn t have to worry about getting bullied on what they wear to school.
Another important claim in favor of this viewpoint is the benefits of school uniforms. This

There are three sociological perspectives of race and ethnicity which are functionalist, conflict, and

perspective emphasizes how the parts of society are structured to maintain its stability. As also
described in the reading the functionalist approach is an approach, if an aspect of social life does not

As described it was the movement of 2 million African American out of the Southern United States to
the Midwest, Northeast, and West from 1910 to 1930. They migrated to escape racism and seek
employment opportunities in industrial cities.
When the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863 less than eight percent of the African
American population lived in the northeastern or Midwestern U.S. As described, Between 1910 and
1930, the African American population grew by about 40% in Northern states, mostly in the major
cities. Cities such as Chicago, Detroit, New York, and Cleveland had some of the biggest increases in
the early part of the century. Because changes were concentrated in cities, urban tensions rose as
African Americans and new or recent European immigrants, both groups chiefly from rural societies,
competed for jobs and housing with the white ethnic working class. Tensions were often most severe
between ethnic Irish, defending their positions, and recent immigrants and blacks.
African Americans moved as individuals or small family groups. There was no government assistance,
but often northern industries, such as the railroads, meatpacking and stockyards, recruited people. The
primary factor for migration was the racial climate and widespread violence of lynching in the South.
In the North, they could find better schools and adult men could vote (joined by women after 1920).

Analysis of The Well Paid Receptionist
Harvey Finley is in quite the predicament. He his company s net profit should be approximately $107,

six to seven times the amount of an average good secretary/receptionist in the local market and has
been for a few years.
There s a few ways this issue can be addressed. One way would be to talk to Ms. Brannen and advice
her that there has been an oversight in her salary over the past few years and for the upcoming year the
oversight will be corrected and her salary will be adjusted to $25,000 per year with no percent of sales

thousand dollars more. So Finley can be true to her and make a counter offer in hopes that she would
accept and stay. As for the other negative aspect of her getting back together with her husband in
Houston and move back there, Finley would either have to offer her a significant more salary or find
her husband a position at Troupville Business Systems.
The other important value driver to consider in establishing the Value Over Time maximization is
owner values . As the owner Finley s main concern is to keep his business running. Another concern is
to make more and more profit each year. Owners need to worry about reputation risk as well and the
well being of each of their employees. Some problems Finley is facing with his company, Troupville

Dropbox is a cloud storage service; a business that overlooks a users data and makes that data
accessible online. Because Dropbox has introduced people to the idea of accessing wireless data, this
reveals how this type of new media has changed the way that content is produced, distributed, and
consumed. Although the use of either a USB Flash Drive (old media) or Dropbox (new media)
maintains the same objective, that is, to provide people with alternate methods of storing data,
Dropbox is becoming a standard way of accessing data with the use of the internet as a platform. This
in turn, benefits Dropbox users somewhat.
One benefit of transitioning from a USB Flash Drive to Dropbox is that Dropbox allows easy access to

There are three methods in which Dropbox users can easily access their documents. The first is

Essay on Peace Like a River, by Leif Enger
Consequences come from choices individuals make, such as waking up in the morning at a specific
time in order to avoid traffic. However, even if the decisions are not made by the individual, they still
have to suffer the consequences of those decisions made by others. Take, for instance, the choice that
someone makes to drink and drive while under the influence. If that person kills someone, then his
decision impacts the lives of everyone involved and not just himself. A theme in Peace Like a River,
by Leif Enger, is that people must accept the consequences of their actions because it influences the
direction they go in life. This theme is developed through the character of Jeremiah, the conflict

Jeremiah s intervention is observed when he insists, breathe ....breathe! .... Reuben Land, in the name
of the living God I am telling you to breathe (Enger, p. 3). Jeremiah ordered his son to breathe, even
though twelve minutes had passed since he was dead; however, when he orders Reuben to come back
to life, he says that in the name of God he must resuscitate. Reuben was not destined to live, and
because his father s choice went against what was supposed to happen, Reuben must live an asthmatic
life that limits what he is able to do. Ultimately, Enger portrays how all decisions have consequences,
and many times the results will not be the expected ones.
The conflict presented between Davy and the law depicts that people must take responsibility for the
consequences of their actions. Davy is Reuben s independent older brother. While only seventeen
years old, he always gives the appearance of an adult fully capable of caring for himself. He has a
mind of his own and does not want anybody telling him what to do. Davy s independence seems to
follow his dad s advice, which is shown at the end of the first chapter when Jeremiah tells his children,
We and the world, my children will always be at war. Retreat is impossible. Arm yourselves (Enger,
p.4). Jeremiah advises his children that life is difficult, and

Awakening Essay
When Kate Chopin s The Awakening was published at the end of the 19th Century, many reviewers
took issue with what they perceived to be the author s defiance of Victorian proprieties, but it is this
very defiance with which has been responsible for the revival in the interest of the novel today. This
factor is borne out by Chopin s own words throughout her Preface where she indicates that women
were not recipients of equal treatment. (Chopin, Preface ) Edna takes her own life at the book s end,
not because of remorse over having committed adultery but because she can no longer struggle against

When Edna finally resolved to end her life it is not because she has been rejected by Robert but
because she can no longer lead the type authentic life which to her is the only life worth living, and
this is the result of the denial of equal rights to women by the society of that day.
Chopin has clearly taken care to anticipate criticisms that her suicide would leave the children
motherless by having her recently visit the children to find that they really had no need of her and are
perfectly content with the grandmother. In having Edna reflect that she would never sacrifice herself
for her children, Chopin was not arguing so much in defense of selfish ness as against the view that a
mother could be expected to deny her own freedom for the sake the children in a manner that was not
expected of the father. Thus, women s struggle is synonymous with Edna s suicide as well as the
events leading up to it. Edna plays a significant role in this story. Overall, I personally construed K.
Chopin s novel as a repudiation of prevailing mores which govern women s behavior during that
period in time. Edna was an outsider. She did not comprehend that the personal freedoms she saw all
about her were well defined within a construct of old established social conventions,

Also, any person who unpatriotically supported communism was harshly dealt with. These events
were represented in an exact scale model of the Mental Institution. Anyone who dared to cause an

such as McMurphy, lobotomy. In the hospital, McMurphy represented the rebel, the opposer to the
Combine (McCarthyism), the one who wanted to break free of society s conformity.
Setting is also important, as it refers to the period this book was set in, the 1950 s. Ultimately, it is a
reflection of what was happening in American society at the time, and what American society
expected from each other. McCarthyism, as started by Senator Joseph McCarthy, was the most

The university, or the school.
Students come each year to campuses such as the University of Arkansas, or the University of Texas to
begin their undergraduate education. These campuses are a group of ever changing buildings and
monuments that make up what people think of as, the university. The definition of a school according
to Webman s Unabashed Dictionary, is as follows. A group of humans moving together through the
mind. This suggests that the university, or any school for that matter, is not bound by the borders and
walls of a particular place.
When asked why they are here, most students say it is because this is what they need to get ahead in
life, whatever that may mean. It usually has much to do with the brass ring, or the house on the top of
the hill with the sports car in the driveway. For these people, the idea of an education appears to be
nothing more than job training. Could this type of training not be given at a technical school in half
the time it would take to get an undergraduate education? Many that have this attitude will come and
go without ever receiving the true benefits of an undergraduate education.
Throughout history the idea of being educated has been one of a total body experience. The notion of
a well rounded person is one that is still talked about today. The ancient Greeks incorporated both

in I had expectations and hopes for Bilal to fulfill, I made sure that my expectations and hopes for him
were more realistic and was not pushing him out of his confront zone in any kind of way. My
expectations and hopes were that Bilal always stayed true to himself, never act like someone that he
really is not, and that he builds secure connections with people that he holds ... Show more content on

And by three years of age, the toddler is expected to gain anywhere from three to five pounds, grow
about three inches in height, and also have all twenty of his/her primary teeth grown in (2016).
According to Jean Piaget, there are four stages of cognitive development that a child will go through.
The first stage is known as the sensorimotor stage; it is from birth to about two years of age. The
sensorimotor stage is a period that the cognitive development rapidly grows and during this time
frame the infant develops an understanding of the world through trial and error using their senses and
actions (McLeod, 2015). An example of an experience that Bilal went through during the sensorimotor
stage would be when Bilal was eight months old, I tried the object permanence test I did this by hiding
an object from Bilal and have him look for it, when the location of the object changed Bilal would
look for it where he previously saw it (My Virtual Child, 2014). The social and

Handmaids Tale and 1984
How far is language a tool of oppression in The Handmaid s Tale and Nineteen Eighty Four ?
Most dystopian novels contain themes of corruption and oppression, therefore in both The Handmaid s
Tale and Nineteen Eighty Four language is obviously used as a form of the states control, enabling
dystopian leaders to remain in power by manipulating language to restrict free thought. Orwell and
Atwood have utilized language as a key tool of oppression throughout their novels. The use of
language is mostly repressive, language can also be seen as liberating, and used as an act of rebellion,
which the state wishes to eliminate.
The novel Nineteen Eighty Four contains a world in which language is being systematically corrupted.

The Ministry of peace concerned itself with war , The Ministry of Truth dedicated itself to destroying
the truth and The Ministry of Love was described as frightening with gorilla faced guards. This brings
forth the idea that the state are trying to subtly manipulate society however they are a threat. In
addition the face of the party Big Brother is extremely ironic as Orwell uses this as a tactic to make
you feel reassured. This is because the word Big Brother is an example of a double entendre as a big
brother is commonly associated with protection, care and love which is the extreme opposite in this
case as the party seeks power...for its own sake conveying the irony further as it is not what it seems at
first glance. The constant motif of BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU exemplifies the idea they
will always try to control you, and they have great power. The fact that Orwell chose these names is a
reflection of the Party s of the brainwashing of their society and the desire for control over the people.
It is a warning as it emphasises the abusive nature of dictators, as they use psychological manipulation
as a means of control. The use of names in Nineteen Eighty Four presents a false sense of security and
desirability to citizens, as it makes the state appear friendly and trust worthy regardless of their
demeaning acts. The slogan of the

  • 2. Disruption Reflection For my global engagement event, I attended the showing of the film, Disruption, followed by a brief discussion session. This movie aired at Global Commons sponsored by the Office of Sustainability at Elon University, specifically their student Eco Reps. The event began at seven o clock on Tuesday, September 19th. This film depicts the devastating effects of human activity in modern society on the environment resulting in global climate change creating extreme weather events such as floods, tornadoes, droughts, and hurricanes. Change in Earth s overall temperature is difficult to conceptualize because its long term effects do not present urgency in most people s minds; consequentially, the film discloses the lack of concern for environmental issues throughout government agencies and most citizens. Even with the recent international industrial pledge to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the objectives are poorly defined and lack the intensity to reverse the damage. Incorporating both the scientific and governmental explanation of climate change, the film illustrates the tremendous positive impact civilian activists can accomplish. For example, the activists are planning the first major climate change march and rallying local citizens behind a common goal to create meaningful change. Following the movie the Eco Reps initiated a discussion session regarding Elon s impact on the environment and specific ways students can alter their habits to make positive change such as recycling, turning off electronics when not in use, and eating less meat. Although most of the students were impressed with the measures Elon incorporates to be sustainable, I think the majority of the student body during their daily lives do not consider environmental issues; thus, students perspectives on climate change need to be altered. I selected this topic because I am passionate about reducing climate change and limiting its devastating effects on our planet; hence, I attempt to spread my knowledge and concerns to persuade others to work together for an effective solution to mitigate its effects. Not only am I an Environmental Studies major but also as a Public Health student I am interested in the cross section between environmental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Examples Of Madness In The Streetcar Named Desire The streetcar Named Desire is a very complex and engaging book with 3 different themes, desire and fate, death and madness. I chose to be Blanche DuBois in scene 8 and scene 10 as it sets the theme, madness.Like the other major themes of the play desire and fate, and death madness too was Tennessee Williams s obsession. His sister Rose s strange behaviour which had long been a source of anxiety to her parents, later took the form of violent sexual fantasies and accusations against her father. Not only did Tennessee Williams feel guilty for not having saved Rose from all this, but he now feared for his own sanity because the mental illness that afflicted Rose might be hereditary. He certainly did have a breakdown of sorts in his early twenties. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her illusions, the very establishment of her life, are pulverised and this reflects the rot in her energy, status, and mental limit. Toward the begin of the play, she is obviously indicated to be somebody who is clutching the picture of an advanced and dainty character that originates from a distinguished society however by Scene 10, she has ended up completely mindful that this is a daydream which is the reason she hammers the mirror face down at the very begin of the scene as she has understood that she is not able to trick herself any longer. At the point when Stanley shows up, she is compelled to envision that she has gotten a telegram from Shep Huntleigh with a specific end goal to escape the truth that she is being constrained out by Stanley and that Mitch generally won t needs her. At the point when Stanley poses a question about the telegram, and Blanche answers What telegram? , it gets to be very apparent to the group of onlookers that this was all affectation; Stanley pulverises Blanche s fancies and makes her face reality. Also, Blanche s craziness gets to be more obvious through the shocking reflections and peculiar shadow that encompass her. Her assault symbolises her last annihilation to the values that Stanley s general public speaks to and the termination of the ethics and estimations of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Effects Of Mental Skills On Sports Psychology Introduction The use of mental skills in sports psychology can both benefit an athlete to motivate themselves and provide them with the self confidence to achieve although the use of these skills can also have a negative impact on the athlete. This review of literature includes two different types of mental skills that can be used to help an athlete in the rehabilitation process, one study to support the concept that athletes benefit from a range of mental skills use is Arvinen Barrow et al. This study took place in 2015, found out that 71.6% of 1283 athletes indicated that they believed mental skills helped them to rehabilitate faster when using 3 types of mental skills (imagery, goal setting and positive self talk). On the other hand there are studies which argue against the positives of mental skills more specifically relaxation and imagery and one example is a study conducted by Francis, Andersen and Maley (2000). The results from this study backed up the idea that positive self talk and positive reinforcement from an external individual can help the rehabilitation process. However the athletes used in this study did not believe that other mental skills such as relaxation or imagery were particularly useful in the rehabilitation phase. Furthermore when athletes return to physical activity there are theories that they are often feared of the injury occurring again and may not give themselves the best chance to perform at their previous standards. The following examples of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both race have been subjected to hate due to the color of their skin, or race that they are. Genocide and slavery have been apart of the black and Jewish community due to the amount of hate that the were toward them races. Because of all the racism that was going on between there were many speeches and many marches Held in predominantly Jewish and Black communities. Many of the marches that took placed played a big part in the freedom of these to races especially for the African American communities. What I find to be very interesting about the first amendment is that because we have freedom of speech the Klu Klux Klan also known as the KKK are able to hold meetings and speeches that they have against the black communities. I agree that people here in the United States of America should be able to have freedom of speech but do I agree that that KKK should be able to hold hate marches and speeches? Will this is a very difficult question for me to answer because I am an African American, so my first answer is to say no, but when I use my critical thinking that I have learned in this class I say yes they should be able to hold Hate speech. I look back to the famous speech in the black communities that were held to lead our way to freedom such as the I Have a dream Speech by martin Luther King or the Million Man March was held by Minster Farrakhan there were a lot of people that didn t believe in the movement that was happening during that time period but if it wasn t for the first amendment in the Bill of Rights Marches and Speeches would have never been able to ... • 6. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, A Prolific Writer Of Concertos Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, 1757 1791, was a prolific writer of concertos, composing 27 piano concertos. Throughout his writing he developed the use of the cadenza, highlighting the performer s talent with a virtuosic passage. Not all Mozart s cadenzas have survived therefore future composers have attempted to recreate these passages, often reflecting the period in which they were written. Cadenza comes from the Latin Cadere , to fall and broadly means a flourish at the end of a single melodic line. In the Medieval period pieces contained flourishes to enhance their final cadences, though few were notated. This is the cadenza in its earliest form. In late seventeenth century opera the improvised cadenza was purely virtuosic notes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this is in the first movement of C.P.E. By the mid eighteenth century the cadenza had become an established element of the concerto, a tradition contributed to by the fact that the cadenza added drama, created contrast between the tutti and solo performer and created a conclusion. Most cadenzas were at a cadential six four, placed toward the final solo section of the movement as shown above. Mozart was an influential composer in the eighteenth century, composing many of his works for the pianoforte. Mozart s early cadenzas do not usually quote from the movement within which they were written. These generic cadenzas often consist of scales and arpeggios which, in theory, could be transferred for use in another concerto in similar tempo and key. This happens in the cadenza of the first movement of K. 238 in B flat major which is made of regular scales and consists of no real thematic material relating to the work. As the eighteenth century improvised cadenza began to develop, the passages became longer and more virtuosic. Mozart and Daniel Turk (1750 1813), notable composer, organist, scholar and peer of Quantz, both disagreed with this, believing that the new cadenzas were distracting from the work. ... • 7. Application Of Dgs For Local Network Stability Introduction: Due to increased concern on energy crisis and environmental issues, power industry is shifting their power production from conventional power sources to renewable energy sources, and is incorporating it into the grid utility in the form of distributed generations (DGs). The application of DGs can enhance reliability and stability of the local network, and can reach benefit to the supplier by reducing system losses and investment on a new transmission line due to increased power consumption [1]. Power generation in the form of DGs for local and grid utility can create issues as many as it may solve. Therefore, a microgrid concept is evolved to coordinate among sources, loads, and energy storage devices for maintaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Inverters are able to supply controlled voltage and frequency depending on the control algorithms [3]. The characteristics of inverters are significantly different from the conventional generators; therefore, specific control algorithms are required for a stable microgrid operation [4, 5]. There are a number of publications on droop based control for facilitating high reliability and avoiding complexity of a supervisory control system [6, 12]. The droop based control algorithms are popular due to their coordination capability among various power rating units together with flexibility and reliability. The concept of droop based power control is valid for the both high voltage (HV) transmission line and low voltage (LV) distribution line, although it has some limitations. Problem formulation: To achieve consumer satisfaction in power supply and harness renewable energy, microgrids design and control are essential issues for reliable operation. As the characteristics of the distribution network and high volume power electronics penetration into the network are significantly different from the conventional power system, several issues are raised. Some of the issues, which are a promised field for future research, are described shortly below: Distribution network: In a LV distribution network, the well known P/f droop control requires much more effort than the P/V droop because predominated resistive network that naturally connects active power with ... • 8. Similarities And Similarities Between Francis Bacon And... The personal lives of great artists are often the most tragic; neglectful parents, drug addictions, failed relationships, and mental instability seem to the most common tropes. The British painter Francis Bacon and Anna Kavan, born as Helen Woods, are no exception. The similarities between their personal lives and artistic creations are striking. Both had the misfortune of neglectful parents, both moved from country to country throughout their lives, both were addicted to either heroin or alcohol, but both created gruesome and masterful works of art. Anna Kavan s mother was detached and negligent. Both of Kavan s two marriages failed. She became addicted to heroin in her twenties as a way to self medicate for her depression. She spent time in insane asylums towards the end of her life. Francis Bacon s parents were far from caring; his father exiled him after Bacon expressed his homosexuality. After being entrusted to the care of a family friend, he fell in love with the older man that whisked him around the European continent. He began painting after seeing an exhibit of Pablo Picasso s work and took many years to find success with this trade. Often he resorted to alcohol and held private, and very illegal, gambling clubs to make a sort of income. He entered an extremely mentally and physically abusive relationship. These adversities from personal lives influenced the work of both individuals to a tremendous degree. Characters in Kavan s stories are frequently a kind of autobiography Anna Kavan was one of her character s names that Helen Woods eventually adopted after a mental breakdown. Francis Bacon s work pictured many of his acquaintance and lovers, scenes of homosexuality, and scenes of pain. Understanding the individual s personal circumstances adds a new layer of meaning and interpretation to their creations. A most encompassing comparison of the two individuals is that they both produced works of cosmic horror; however, it is not entirely the typical Lovecraftian horror associated with the genre. Bacon s paintings as visual experiences are quite unlike other works considered to be cosmic horror; however, their unconventionality does not exclude them. Even tyrants and dictators make a point of being fond of children. • 15. Physics Of Hot Air Balloon Experiment Physics The following report explains the results of a model hot air balloon experiment that replicates a previous incident in which the temperature in the envelope was heated to a point until it was burned. After assessing the researched and calculated data, the assertion of the air in the balloon becoming too hot to lift the mass will be validated. The physics related to the operation of hot air balloons is essentially the use of hot air to create a buoyant force and generate lift. A hot air balloon is made of a large bag called the envelope, a wicker basket or gondola hung underneath and a burner located beneath the hole in the envelope to heat the air in the envelope. This heated air causes a buoyant force to occur (Edmonds, 2008). When an object is submerged in a fluid, it appears to weigh less than when it is outside of the fluid. The weight of the mass acts downwards, but when it is immersed in fluid, an upthrust or buoyant force is exerted by the fluid upwards (Edmonds, 2008). The buoyant force occurs because the pressure in a liquid or gas increases with increasing depth. Therefore, the pressure at the lower surface of a submerged object is greater than the pressure at its upper surface. Diagram 1 shows an object that has the same density as water. It is found that the object is in static equilibrium, tending neither to rise nor sink (Nave, 2014). The European Revolutions of 1848 were sequences of republican rebellions against the monarchs, which were thought of as the height of a sequence of political, economic, and social disasters. The revolutions began in large urban areas and its results, particularly in France, Germany, and the Austrian Empire, were a shock to Europe with the defeat of the European Revolutions and cause general disenchantment with liberals. Though the revolutions spread to small rural parts, the relative strengths of leaders, as well as the conflict between liberal and nationalist and the role of the working class, all contributed to its impact. The revolutions of 1848 caused the most brutal and extensive political movements that affected the political, economic, social and cultural aspects of European nations, while aiming for democracy. France was where the revolutions first started, when its people sought suffrage worldwide. After the King discharged François Guizot, aiming to outlaw the banqueting campaign , it led to the radicals protesting which caused violence as troops shot at the protesters. This brutality amplified the anger of the French people. Refusing to release the protesters also just fueled the fight for reform even more, which led to the organization of a second government after the King s resignation. For example, plants and other photo synthesizers need only energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide from air, and water from the soil to make the sugar glucose. Photosynthesis is the most important chemical process on earth because it provides food for virtually all organisms, not only for photo synthesizers but for the organisms that eat them. Simple sugars are also converted to other sugars and starches (carbohydrates) which may be transported to the stems and roots for use or storage, or they may be used as building blocks for more complex structures, e.g. oils, pigments, proteins, cell walls, etc. Photosynthesis is dependent on the availability of light. In other words, as sunlight increases in intensity photosynthesis increases. This results in greater food production. Many garden crops, such as tomatoes, respond best to maximum sunlight. Tomato production is cut drastically as light intensities drop. Only two or three varieties of greenhouse tomatoes will produce any fruit when sunlight is minimal in fall and spring. According to Descartes, How did humans differ from animals? To say that Descartes was a dualist is to say that he believed the mind and body are two separate and distinguishable essences. The immaterial mind and the material body although separate, causally interact. According to Descartes there was a clear separation between humans and animals in regards to mind body dualism. Which is the assumption of many ideas for psychology for example John Watson s behaviorism. Locke also had a view of empiricist philosophy because he had the idea that those who have different experiences view the world differently. Uniform is required because it bring out promotion for school safety. But there are others that don t think school you uniforms is required in public schools. Because of anti individual s of freedom. According to what Woodard write that a high school principal in Johnston County the student s demeanor is better and there are fewer disruptions because of teasing or students being uncomfortable because of the apparel that others are wearing This is a great example because some kids may not have as much clothes as other kids have and when they come to school with the same rip pants or shirt is most likely to be one of a bully target. When the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863 less than eight percent of the African American population lived in the northeastern or Midwestern U.S. As described, Between 1910 and 1930, the African American population grew by about 40% in Northern states, mostly in the major cities. Cities such as Chicago, Detroit, New York, and Cleveland had some of the biggest increases in the early part of the century. Because changes were concentrated in cities, urban tensions rose as African Americans and new or recent European immigrants, both groups chiefly from rural societies, competed for jobs and housing with the white ethnic working class. Tensions were often most severe between ethnic Irish, defending their positions, and recent immigrants and blacks. African Americans moved as individuals or small family groups. There was no government assistance, but often northern industries, such as the railroads, meatpacking and stockyards, recruited people. The primary factor for migration was the racial climate and widespread violence of lynching in the South. Because Dropbox has introduced people to the idea of accessing wireless data, this reveals how this type of new media has changed the way that content is produced, distributed, and consumed. Although the use of either a USB Flash Drive (old media) or Dropbox (new media) maintains the same objective, that is, to provide people with alternate methods of storing data, Dropbox is becoming a standard way of accessing data with the use of the internet as a platform. Dropping files into Dropbox essentially stores these files on the online cloud, where users can access their files anywhere and at any time as long as users have access to internet connection. However, even if the decisions are not made by the individual, they still have to suffer the consequences of those decisions made by others. Take, for instance, the choice that someone makes to drink and drive while under the influence. If that person kills someone, then his decision impacts the lives of everyone involved and not just himself. A theme in Peace Like a River, by Leif Enger, is that people must accept the consequences of their actions because it influences the direction they go in life. Jeremiah ordered his son to breathe, even though twelve minutes had passed since he was dead; however, when he orders Reuben to come back to life, he says that in the name of God he must resuscitate. Reuben was not destined to live, and because his father s choice went against what was supposed to happen, Reuben must live an asthmatic life that limits what he is able to do. Ultimately, Enger portrays how all decisions have consequences, and many times the results will not be the expected ones. The conflict presented between Davy and the law depicts that people must take responsibility for the consequences of their actions. Davy is Reuben s independent older brother. While only seventeen years old, he always gives the appearance of an adult fully capable of caring for himself. He has a mind of his own and does not want anybody telling him what to do. Davy s independence seems to follow his dad s advice, which is shown at the end of the first chapter when Jeremiah tells his children, We and the world, my children will always be at war. This factor is borne out by Chopin s own words throughout her Preface where she indicates that women were not recipients of equal treatment. When Edna finally resolved to end her life it is not because she has been rejected by Robert but because she can no longer lead the type authentic life which to her is the only life worth living, and this is the result of the denial of equal rights to women by the society of that day. Chopin has clearly taken care to anticipate criticisms that her suicide would leave the children motherless by having her recently visit the children to find that they really had no need of her and are perfectly content with the grandmother. In having Edna reflect that she would never sacrifice herself for her children, Chopin was not arguing so much in defense of selfish ness as against the view that a mother could be expected to deny her own freedom for the sake the children in a manner that was not expected of the father. Thus, women s struggle is synonymous with Edna s suicide as well as the events leading up to it. Edna plays a significant role in this story. Overall, I personally construed K.
