2. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
Identify shapes that show symmetry.
Draw the line of symmetry.
Create figures that show symmetry.
Recognize shapes that can tessellate.
Tessellate a surface.
7. Understand
What is a Symmetry?
It is when a shape or figure is divided
into two and forms two equal parts.
The line that divided the figures into two
equal parts I called the line of symmetry
8. Let’s look at the examples
Let’s check the given figure if it is
symmetrical
We can draw a line of symmetry to divide
the figure.
When folded at the line of symmetry, the
two parts of the figures match, meaning one
side is a mirror image of the other side.
9. Let’s look at the examples
Let’s check the second figure
The two parts that are divided by the vertical
line do not match.
10. Let’s look at the examples
Let’s divide the figure in a different
way
11. Let’s look at the examples
Let’s check the last figure
12. Check if the following letters have symmetry by
drawing the line of symmetry
13. KEEP IN MIND
1. A figure has symmetry if we can divided it
into two equal parts.
2. Some objects do not have a line of
symmetry. These ojects are asymmetrical
14.
15. What is Tessellation?
It is created when a shape is repeatedly
used until it covers the surface with no gaps or
overlaps in the shapes.
16. Let’s look at the examples
The design is made by
covering the space with
equal sizes of squares
17. Let’s look at the examples
The design is made by
using equal sizes of
triangles.
18. Other shapes can be used to tessellate a surface,
as long as there are no gaps or overlaps.
19. Other shapes can be used to tessellate a surface,
as long as there are no gaps or overlaps.
20. KEEP IN MIND
1. Ato tessellate is to cover a space with the same
shape without gaps or overlap. Triangles, squares, and
other shapes can be used to fill a space or surface.
24. Basic geometric concepts
Mercury is the closest planet to
the Sun and the smallest one in
the Solar System—it’s only a bit
larger than the Moon
Despite being red, Mars is
actually a cold place. It's full of
iron oxide dust, which gives
Mars its reddish cast
Angles
Points, lines, and
shapes
25. Activity 3. How many sides have they?
Count how many sides has each shape and circle the correct answer.
1 2 0 4 3 2 5 6 7
4 3 2 9 4 2 6 5 4
26. Activity 4. Find the intrusive shape
Find the intrusive shape and identify its name.
27. Importance of learning geometry
● Venus has a beautiful name and is the second planet
from the Sun. It’s terribly hot, even hotter than
Mercury, and its atmosphere is extremely poisonous.
It’s the second-brightest object in the night sky after
the Moon
● Earth is the third planet from the Sun and the only
one that harbors life in the Solar System. We all live
here
● Jupiter is a gas giant and the biggest planet in the
Solar System. It's the fourth-brightest object in the
night sky. It was named after the Roman god of the
skies and lightning
28. Activity 5. Follow the series
Follow the series of geometric shapes and draw the missing ones.

29. Activity 6. Find the shape
Find the circles and color them with a highlighter color.
30. Parts of a geometric shape: the square

31. Activity 7. Find the shape
Count the total number of circles in the drawing of the bicycle.
Total number of circles:
32. Activity 8. Question and answer
Read the question carefully and answer a, b or c.
How many sides has a triangle?
a It has 6 sides
b It has 3 sides
c It has 0 sides
34. Angles in geometric shapes
Mercury takes a little more than 58 days to
complete its rotation, so try to imagine how
long days must be there! Since the
temperatures are so extreme, albeit not as
extreme as in Venus, Mercury has been
deemed to be non-habitable for humans
Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and
the smallest one in the entire Solar System.
This planet's name has nothing to do with
the liquid metal, since Mercury was named
after the Roman messenger god. Its
temperatures aren't as terribly hot as that
planet's
35. Activity 9. Shape practice
Trace, connect and then drawn each shape.
36. Activity 10. Angles
Read the question carefully and answer a, b or c.
What are the angle of the triangle?
a 65º
b 70º
c 95º
