Com Toibin Brooklyn Analysis
In Colm Toibin s Brooklyn, there are many opportunities for the protagonist Eilis Lacey that are
handed to her. Despite these opportunities, the path of least resistance is chosen. Many hardships are
faced every day. Eilis feels that she has no other options but to take what s given to her and be happy
with it. Not only are her options a mess but so is her love life. Relationships can be difficult; but
between Eilis and Tony, the much needed effort is not being put in. An unhappy and unfulfilled life, is
led when Eilis realizes that she has not done anything for herself, only to please others. Eilis was faced
with many tough decisions, these were taking without forethought. Therefore, Eilis s life was not
fulfilled in the way it could have been.
Eilis has a problem with speaking her mind; she does not want to make anyone angry with her, even if
this leaves her miserable. Eilis feels extremely silent with some of her opinions She wished she could
think of something smart to say to Miss Kelly without being openly rude. Instead, she remained silent.
(Toibin 6). Remaining silent is a big problem, especially if it puts personal wants on the back burner.
In Eilis s case this is exactly what happens. Eilis takes what is given to her without question In the
United States, he said, There would be plenty of work for someone like you with good pay. (Toibin
24). A job had been previously aligned for Eilis in Brooklyn and she was too naïve to say no; she did

The Omaha Indian Tribes
The Omaha Indian tribes were settled in many different places. They were known as the Midwestern
Native American tribe. They settled in present day places such as northeast Nebraska and northwest
Iowa near the Missouri River. They also were settled in present day northeast Nebraska. Many other
tribes were settled in Nebraska such as the Cheyenne, Arapaho, Pawnee, Ponca, Otoe, Kansa, Yankon
and Dakota Sioux, and the Lakota Sioux tribes. The Omaha Indians main reservations remain in
present day Nebraska in Thurston and Cuming county. The total land area that the Omaha Indians had
was about 307 square miles. The city, Omaha, is the largest city in Nebraska and is named after them.
Although the Omaha Indian tribe did not have a lot of land like many other tribes, they still were a
well functioning tribe.
The Omaha tribe had a unique culture in which many people were involved and many traditions were
celebrated. The Omaha tribe often lived in settled villages of round earthen lodges in the winter and
fall. In the spring and summer, the Omaha families were able to move from camp to camp as they
followed buffalo herds. When these Omaha families moved from place to place they would live in
teepees, or tents, that would hide them from the buffalo. Within these households everyone had
responsibilities. Omaha men were hunters and they often went to war to protect their families. The
Omaha women were farmers and they also built and transported teepees. Most children in the Omaha

William Lane Craig s Argument For The Existence Of God
Many people wonder about the existence of God and if he truly exists. We have to realize that it is
obvious that he exists because of his many creations. Sometimes we think that the world has so much
evil so how is God here. Multiple philosophers have made proofs and arguments abut how God really
does exist. Philosophers have made arguments that he exists for example Shaun Doyle says that God
reveals himself to people in many ways such as that the spirit himself testifies to Christians spirits that
we are God s children, William Lane Craig has found the differences his existence has made, and
Pascal Wager s is an argument that says that believing in God is not on an appeal that he exists, but
based on an appeal to self interest. Shaun Doyle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first way he makes a difference is if God doesn t exist then life is ultimately meaningless. If he
doesn t exist then it makes no difference of who we are or what we do. The second way he makes a
difference is if God does not exist, then we must ultimately live without hope. If there is no God, there
is no hope of saving from evil. If he doesn t exist there is no afterlife. The last way he makes a
difference is if God does exist, then not only is there meaning and hope, but there is also the
possibility of coming to know God and his love personally. If he does exist then it can a make life
changing differences for us. God wants to have life long relationships with us and pray to him during
hard times. Lastly, Pascal s Wager argument by Blaise Pascal that says that believing in God is not on
an appeal that he exists, but based on an appeal to self interest. We choose if we want to believe in
God. If we do believe in God it will make Pascal s argument a true statement. By believing in God we
receive a reward in heaven and by not believing in God we receive a punishment in hell and gain
nothing. It is our own decision to choose whether to believe in God. We receive a better reward by
believing in God and obtain a loving and long relationship with

Violence In Venezuela Essay
About a million protesters flooded the streets of Venezuelan capital Caracas to demand constitutional
right to recall referendum.
The peaceful protesters waved flags and wore white while marching. Police was deployed in the city
to maintain law and order during the protest.
There is no food. There is no paper. There is no medicine. We are dying, a protester Maria Alvarez
told CNN. Please, help Venezuela. This has to end. Maduro, you have to understand that your time is
up.
The protesters resorted to violence by vandalizing and burning cars, throwing Molotov cocktails, and
blocking roads in some parts of the city.
President Nicolas Maduro urged the Venezuelan people to fight for peace in Caracas, and to raise their

This is a conscious people and will be mobilized forever, Maduro said at the rally.
A few protesters wore masks and threw rocks at the police. The police then used tear gas to bring them
under control and detained some of the rioters.
Maduro said that those who incite violence in the city will be prosecuted as per the law.
In view of the recent events, he said that he will withdraw immunity protections from politicians, so
that the suspected coup plotters in parliament could be prosecuted by courts.
Maduro told the rally of supporters, who also took to the streets, that the opposition wants to carry out
a coup to overthrow his government in a similar coup attempt as in 2002 which sought to oust his late
predecessor Hugo Chavez.
We are here at the call of our President, to defend the revolution, Carolina Aponte, a 37 year old
housewife at the pro government rally, was quoted as saying by AFP.
The referendum had moved a step closer in July when National Electoral Council (CNE) verified 1
percent of the signatures on recall petition required in the process. Some 20 percent of the signatures
of registered voters (3.9 million signatures) are needed to for the recall voting to be confirmed.
The MUD (Mesa de la Unidad/Democratic Unity Roundtable), which holds power in Venezuelan
parliament asked the CNE to make available 14,500 centers and 40,000 computers for people to sign

A Long Night For The Twins
It had been a long night for the twins. It was one of those nights where just as they thought they had
fought their last fight, a new one would emerge. Or at least to them it seemed like it. Their master had
always told them to be prepared such battles, for as they grew stronger so would their enemies. It
seemed like he was right.
They had been home for a mere ten minutes before Mark proclaimed that he was hungry. His sister
Mindy warming down from the night they had just had rolling her eyes as she knew what that would
come to mean. Mark being the eldest of the two had always had a way of prioritising himself.
Something Mindy and gotten acquainted to over their short lives. It was simply who he was and she
doubted that he would change. He was her opposite and they complemented each other. That
complementation making them a strong partnership in their Kung Fu.
Mindy? Mark s voice called out from his resting spot. That spot being the couch in the center of their
living room and his body draped across it, eyes firmly closed. His own way of calming and cooling
down after a fight.
You know Master will not approve of the way you treat the furniture Came a reply from his left in the
form of a whisper. Mindy was not the one to be loud and outgoing. For being the youngest she always
helped keep her brother in line when she had to or when Master Grandpa had told her too. The rest of
the time she enjoyed being unnoticed, a shadow in the dark. That was her being.

Rise of the American Criminal Industry between 1900-1940
1900 A rise in crime levels as gangs grow stronger. Monk Eastman s Gang starts to pose a real threat
to Paul Kelly s Five Points Gang.
1907 Michael Cassius McDonald dies and leaves a criminal industry in Chicago in the hands of
opportunist gangsters coming in from all over the country.
1911 Mayer Lansky arrives in the U.S. and immediately starts to analyze conditions in the country
with regard to Italian crime families with the purpose of getting involved in their affairs.
1919 Al Capone leaves New York with the purpose of starting illegal businesses in Chicago. Luciano s
influence also solidified at this time, as the Volstead Act provided him with the perfect opportunity to
start an illegal business.
1920 Prohibition started in the U.S. and provided crime families with the opportunity to get involved
in particularly profitable affairs. John Colosimo, one of the most important gangsters in the U.S. is
killed the same year, most probably because of his reluctance to get involved in alcohol trafficking.
His death makes it possible for people to understand the full complexity of illegal affairs in the
country as numerous other gangsters and even politicians attend his funeral.
1921 Johnny Torrio, Chicago s crime boss, brings in Capone as his bodyguard.
1924 Torrio manages to set the foundation of one of the most successful bootlegging businesses in the
country. The Italian American gangster also manages to invest large amounts of money into gambling

our bodies by doing a number of things, such as Dressing them, decorating them, modifying the shape
of them, showing them off and for some people, hiding them. This is where LeCoq found and

The Importance Of Proper Representation Of Data
Abstract This paper discusses the importance of proper representation of data that is mined from social
media. The need for data mining and its various advantages are also discussed. The standard tasks
involved in data mining are explained. The discussion illuminates the various techniques that can be
used for representing the data (Textual representation, Tables, Graphs, Infographic). Draws attention
to the useful applications of data mining in varying degrees and illustrates the benefit of this powerful
technology. Suggests use of data visualization tools like Tableau, Qlikview to evaluate, analyze and
identify important parameters to gain deeper insights from the plethora of data mined from social
media.
Introduction
The widespread use of social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn have
been generating large amounts of data which are interchangeably known as social data. This data is
usually user generated, inconsistent, and incomplete and have geo information. This data can be used
by researchers or companies to extract meaningful information about human behavior, product
consumption, trends in markets, etc. Extraction and study of this data for useful purposes is called data
mining of social media. Since the number of techniques used to mine data are increasing rapidly with
time, it has become imperative to represent the data in a form which can be easily understood. Data
mining may consist of the following stages. First, data is extracted,

President Jimmy Carter And The Iran Hostage Crisis
Mere minutes after President Jimmy Carter was out of office, the Iran Hostage Crisis, for which his
presidency is most remembered, was over. Behind him was a disjointed foreign and confused
domestic policy. When he left office, Carter s approval rating was 34 percent, and his disapproval
rating nearly twice that (Roper Center). Today, it seems that he is a better ex President than he was a
president, as evidenced in his founding of the Carter Center, his cultivation of his presidential library,
his contributions to Habitat for Humanity, and his numerous other humanitarian efforts. During his
term, he had a poor relationship with Congress, a low approval rating with the American people, and a
lack of cohesive international or domestic policy. I believe his two greatest failures are also the two
which marked his entire presidency and caused the drop in his approval ratings: the confused and
faltering domestic and international policies which lasted throughout his presidency and the Iran
Hostage Crisis.
Jimmy Carter was a one term president who won on a campaign of being not Washington and not
Gerald Ford (Hargrove, 1988). Shortly after entering office, his refusal to trade political favors with
members of Congress, unwillingness to learn the rules of Washington politics and play by them, and
the general lack of communication between his administration and Congress stalled any possible
working relationship. This cannot be seen as a failure on the part of Congress, who

Theory of Chronic Sorrow and Nursing Application
Theory of Chronic Sorrow and Nursing Application The theory of chronic sorrow is a middle range
nursing theory explored largely by Georgene Gaskill Eakes, Mary Lermnann Burke and Maragret A.
Hainsworth. The theory provides framework for understanding and working with individuals who
have experienced a significant loss of a loved one. As stated by Eakes et al. (1998, p. 179), Chronic
sorrow is described as ...the periodic recurrence of permanent, pervasive sadness or other grief related
feelings associated with a significant loss. As nurses, it is vitally important to understand and be aware
of the high potential for chronic sorrow to occur when treating patients across the life span with
chronic and traumatic conditions. Chronic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hobdell (1996) interview a mother of a two year old with a neural tube defect about chronic sorrow in
which she states If you were to ask me these questions in about a year and he was not toilet trained, I
would respond very differently. The statement provided by the mother supports the notion of parents
feeling grief over a child s lack of achieving developmental milestones. Parents may feel
psychological emotions such as frustration and helplessness in relationship to burden of care and
developmental delays. It is imperative as nurses to educate families and provide the tools necessary to
ensure the best possible outcome for both the patient and the caregiver(s). A supporting study by
Austin and McDermott (1988) shows a positive relationship between factors such as the ability to
maintain family integration, optimistic definition of the circumstances, social support, self esteem, and
psychological stability. Maintaining a positive relationship within these components in this authors
viewpoint, can aid in effectively managing the affects of chronic sorrow. Isaksson, Ann Krisitin,
Ahlstrom, and Gerd (2208) study describes the ways in which patients with multiple sclerosis (MS)
display and manage chronic sorrow. Persons with multiple sclerosis, often having feelings of sorrow
and fear due to losses associated with the disease (Isaksson, Ann Kristin, Ahlstrom, Gerd, 2008)

Human Nature In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
Joseph Conrad s incredibly erudite, and lengthy prose in his, Heart of Darkness, challenges the reader
to scrutinize human nature in all walks of life. While written in 1899, Heart of Darkness still serves to
be a novella for the ages. With exceptional flexibility to a numerous amount of human issues Conrad s
novella is easily paralleled with countless contemporary affairs; reaching from international, national,
social, and personal matters (Conrad). Not only recently, but for many years we have been fighting in
the middle east. Very recently, militants of the Islamic State executed seventy civilians in a Syrian
town (Deeb, abcnews.com). As Conrad explores humankind s evil innate desires in the Heart of
Darkness through violence, hypocrisy, and our interior world one can straightforwardly connect such
acts with behaviors articulated in Syria these past couple days. This devoted band called itself the
Eldorado Exploring Expedition, and I believe they were sworn to secrecy. Their talk, however, was the
talk of sordid buccaneers; it was reckless without hardihood, greedy without audacity, and cruel
without courage; there was not an atom of foresight or of serious intention in the whole batch of them,
and they did not seem aware these things are wanted for the work of the world. To tear treasure out of
the bowels of the land was their desire, with no more moral purpose at the back of it then there is in
burglars breaking into a safe. With this quote pulled from part one, we

St Teresa Of Avila Research Paper
Who was Teresa? St Teresa of Avila was one of very few woman saints to influence the world and still
do so in certain aspects today. She was born into a wealthy noble family in the city of Avila, Spain.
Teresa was also known as St Teresa of Jesus after her lifetime of devotion to the church. From a young
age Teresa showed signs of being very devout to God and the religious teachings. Her main focuses in
life were pray, devoting to God, and self mortification. Teresa was a mystic who strongly believed that
she had multiple encounters with God. Teresa of Avila changed the way many people saw the world

The reformation performed by Teresa of Avila created an evident change as she struggled against the
fact that men were only able do things such as reforming the church. It was extremely unusual for
women to make significant changes thus, it was very much a start of women gaining power in
religious aspects. Another achievement that led to a change in Catholics was Teresa s writings and
books. Her books were about her travels, reformation and establishment of convents and were
guidance for the other nuns/Catholics. After 25 years, in the Carmelite convent, Teresa established a
small convent in Avila called St Joseph s and this was the beginning of Teresa establishing many other
convents allowing other females to also become nuns. St Teresa also found that some of the church
was corrupt and tried to bring it back to focusing on the primitive rule so that Catholics could enjoy all
that God has to offer. Although this was successful Teresa was unable to remain in this place of prayer,
for the rest of her life, so she decided to travel across Spain, establishing new convents and followed
her reform vision of the Discalced Carmelite life. Hence, it is clearly illustrated that Teresa of Avila
changed the way many catholic saw the world by using just her actions and

Picture Bride, released in 1995 and directed by Kayo Hatta, tells the story of many women living in
Japan who were chosen to be brides by Japanese farm laborers living in Hawaii. The choice of the
bride was based on their pictures. In this movie, Riyo wanted to leave Japan because her parents were
killed by tuberculosis. She had heard great things about the paradise in Hawaii, and she agreed to be a
picture bride. Riyo s new husband was Matsuji, and based on his picture he seemed to be young,
maybe in his twenties. Riyo was disappointed to find out that he had given her an old photo, and he

The Japanese women wore Kimono s and robes; showing off their Japanese heritage. The plantation
manager was wearing clean clothes and a nice red handkerchief, to show the viewer that he was
English. The only American woman in the film was the woman they showed receiving her clean
laundry. She wore a nice long skirt, and a feminine blouse; showing her American ethnicity. Camera
angles were used to show the difference in the social classes, as well. When the camera was on the
plantation supervisors, they were close up, only fitting one to two supervisors in a frame at a time.
When the camera was on the immigrant workers; it tended to show many workers at a time. The
supervisors were made to look larger; showing their dominance. The camera angles also looked up at
the supervisors on their horses. This showed that they were higher in class and were in control of the
immigrants work. The lighting of the movie was mainly dim, and dusty. A sharp contrast was the
bright fire. Sound effects were used in this movie when the worker s were in the sugar cane fields. The
horse s feet could be heard as they approached, and the viewer could hear all the hoes vigorously
hitting the dirt. The night time sound effects were also very effective in symbolizing the peaceful time
away from work. The wind blowing through the sugar cane fields, and the sounds of the night
creatures, both aided in the sense of peacefulness.

Westernization Of Japanese Theatre Styles
Shingeki : Westernization of Japanese theatre.
This essay will discuss the extend of which the pioneers of Shingeki managed to adapt western style
drama and incorporate it in their particular style, by analysing their approaches and expectations.
Through a comparison between Japan s oldest and most traditional theatre style and Shingeki ,
translated in English as New Theatre, mentioning other forms of traditional style that were touched by
the western influence, , this essay aims to highlight the extend of which the Japanese theatre has been
influenced by the western style.
In studying the origins of Shingeki, it is evident that two men had a massive impact in developing this
style; men considered as pioneers of Shingeki. Tsubouchi Shōyō and Kaoru Osanai are two of the
pioneers who developed an interest in western style drama, and tried to adapt their traditional styles to
the western influences, without deviating from their Asian origins.
Tsubouchi Shōyō , approached the problem of modernization of Japanese theatre through studying
western plays and playwrights and to use his research to reform the traditional style of playwriting. He
translated and studied Shakespearean plays for the main purpose of capturing his masterful
playwriting and using it to reform the Kabuki theatre. He aimed to use an existent form of Japanese
theatre and adapt it to the changes required in order to perform western styled plays .His approach was

Cause Of Staff On Inmate On Inmates
Q= what are the causes of staff on inmate, inmate on staff, and inmate on inmate violence in both
prisons and jails? What can correctional administrators do to prevent or at least reduce violence in
correctional facilities? In spite of the fact that the situation is intricate, and some conflicting
discoveries have risen, for the most part the literature supports the idea that the more coercive the jail
environment the more prominent the potential for savagery becomes. This is particularly so where jail
administration and treatment of detainees are seen by detainees as unreasonable or illegitimate, as this
reinforces detainee solidarity contrary to the authorities. A jail approach that keenly consolidates
situational and social counteractive action techniques upheld by fitting administration strategies and
exploration based staff enlistment and preparing practices, is likely the most encouraging model for
lessening interpersonal savagery in correctional facilities. Q= what types of rehabilitation programs
are offered in prisons? What programs are most successful? What are the principles of effective
programs? In the course of recent years, exploration has demonstrated that some recovery gatherings
are successful. At the ACI, sex offenders, aggressive behaviour at home and substance misuse
treatment program bolster this claim. The Rhode Island Adult Correctional Institute Evaluation

There is a plethora of shooting games out in the world today. They come on virtually every platform
from cell phones to Computers and Xbox s. Many good games are overlooked for the more
mainstream ones such as Call of Duty whose games are extremely popular but at best subpar. One of
the best new shooters on the market today is Rainbow six Siege . One of many games in the Rainbow
six saga, Siege is the newest addition to Tom Clancy s brainchild tactical shooter series. The game
features realistic five on five tactical combat between two teams. One of the teams attacks, while the
other defends. Rainbow six s graphics are amazing for a console game and really has the power to
immerse a casual gamer. Rainbow also has a perfect formula for mixing in futuristic gadgets with real
counter terrorism style combat in small environments such as residential houses and large yachts.
Every operator has there own special gadget to gain the edge in combat and trying to guess which
operators the enemy team will use is crucial to survival. That being said, you do not make it very far

of Duty that have more of a one vs. all run and gun mentality. As the game is rated M for mature by

Socrates Holiness
What exactly is holiness? This is a question that was brought up in Plato s infamous Euthyphro ,
which addresses the question of what is holy and unholy through the interactions and conversation
between Socrates and Euthyphro. Before diving into the analysis and evaluation of the conversation
that occurs between the two, it is necessary to first develop a background between the characters.
Euthyphro can be classified as an arrogant and somewhat idiotic priest who is awaiting a trial to
prosecute his own father for the murder of a slave. It is at the entrance of the law courts that
Euthyphro encountered Socrates, a well recognized interpreter of religion and theology. Socrates
notices Euthyphro and converses with the man. Socrates has one main goal that he hopes to achieve
through this conversation: To discover the definition of the holy. It is from this point onward that the
essay will cover analysis of the conversation in greater detail, uncovering the philosophy of holiness.
To begin, the holy must have the form of the holy. Form is often an expression of something s essence,
and essence is usually categorized as the original defining characteristic of an item. If you were to
remove the essence from something, then it would simply cease to exist as that thing. So, if the holy
must have the form of the holy, then this then informs us that the definition of holiness must
capture/attain everything in total that is holy. It is similar to the idea of all or nothing .

Klare angers his readers by having them believe they will be paying $5 per gallon of gasoline in the

Jane Goodall s Theory Of Primate Behavior
Anthropologists over time recognized several physical and behavioral traits that connect humans to
other primates, but can primates learn to manipulate tools, imitate, cooperate, communicate, and
reason somewhat like humans? By studying the various characteristics of primate behavior among
their various societies, many scientists are able to induce a stronger understanding of human relations
among primates and further our knowledge and understandings about evolution. The existence or
nonexistence of cultural patterns in subhuman primates may best be determined by observations
amongst different primate groups in their natural habitats. culture is dependent upon the ability of an
animal within a social group to acquire from another group member ... Show more content on

Anthropologists have come to understand the evolution of man s behavior by observing our closest
primates such as chimpanzees. Cooperative behavior among primates can have many similarities and
differences when compared to humans. Humans are intensively cooperative by communication by
languages and interactions with others. Nonhuman primates can very much communicate very easily
among their social groups, for example, the chimpanzee can very much strategically cooperate much
like human, and also the chimpanzee can spontaneously initiate and maintain cooperative behaviors.
Therefore are able to cooperate to reach a goal such as hunting for food or scaring off dangerous
predators. This cooperative trait can really show the intelligence of these primates and how they are

Dog Training Treats
You can use dog training treats regardless of gender, size, purebred or mixed breeds and even age as
long as the dog likes treats. And most dogs do like pet cookies or even a little piece of chicken or
vegetable, although not all dogs. For the very few dogs that do not like treats you can use their favorite
toy for the same effect. Dog training treats should be used when your puppy does something right, it is
a way to learn the pup that good behavior is rewarded and bad behavior is ignored and does not result
in anything nice or fun. A good question most owners have before they start with this method is if in
every type of training, treats can be used?
Dogs that like treats will see them as a very positive influence to listen to you and obey

Motivation For European Exploration In The 15th And 16th...
Exploration Essay European exploration wasn t only entirely based of one motivation in the 15th and
16th century. Although many voyages of discovery were started in search of wealth, religion was also
a big reason for exploring other continents. Religion wasn t the main motivation for European
exploration in the 15th and 16th century. Instead, the main motivation was economic motives, which
was closely followed by religion, and to a lesser extent was technological developments. The main
motivation of European exploration was economic motives. People were beginning to become more
interested in traveling by sea to reach Asia and Africa and all their riches(Duiker,494). The spice trade
was what linked Europe to Asia, and the gold trade linked Europe to Africa. Furthermore, in the 15th
and 16th centuries, as the economy and purchasing power of Europe developed and increased, the
spice demand grew at a steady rate(Arnold,12). Therefore, spices were one of the few things that made
overseas trade possible. Europe did not have very much gold to begin with, so ultimately the gold
mines that they did possess were emptied. After 1400, Europe started trading with the areas that
produced gold, increasing their amount of gold. Gold was very important to Europe, because not only
was it used for decorations, but also their currency. In 1500, Portugal was controlling the flow of gold
to Europe, making Portugal much wealthier(Buckler,500). Eventually, slaves were included in the

Comparing Platyrrhine And Euroasia
Modern non human anthropoids consist of New and Old World monkeys and the great and lesser apes
that inhabit a range of environments throughout North and South America, Africa, and Euroasia. At
least 90% of the anthropoid population consists of monkeys. There are two distinct Parvorders of
anthropoids that have been evolving independent of each other for at least 30,000,000 years: the
Platyrrhine and the Catarrhine. These two diverse groups of species can be distinguished from each
other most easily based on the form of their noses and by the number of specific types of teeth. Today,
Old World monkey habitats range from tropical jungles to semiarid deserts and seasonally snow
covered areas throughout Africa and South East Asia. In comparison, ... Show more content on

Current ideas suggest that the common ancestor of humans and African apes lived only about 5 8
million years ago; so, for more than 50 million years, humans and the African apes have shared
primate ancestry. Within this ancestry, a new level of movement began to come into existence known
as bipedalism: the ability to walk and run upright on two legs. There are various theories about when
our ancestors started walking upright, but a popular view is that perhaps about 7 million years ago,
early hominids began to adapt to a climate that was cooling globally. The huge rainforest expanses in
Africa were being replaced with savannah and patches of woodland, requiring the tree climbing apes
to become more adept at walking on land. Our ancestors who ventured out into the savannah were
rewarded with roots, shrubs and occasional animal carcasses, ensuring that those who walked on two
legs were more likely to survive. Even so, the jump from trees to land is not all that significant
because some of the early hominids anatomical structures may have already been pre adapted to
bipedalism while climbing trees and stretching for fruit. Bipedalism primarily allowed hominids to
free their arms completely, enabling them to make and use tools efficiently, stretch for fruit in trees
and use their hands for social

Slavery In The Narrative Of Olaudah Equiano
Equiano conjured the horrors of slavery in ways that no one else would be able to. He had firsthand
experience and was more educated on the occurrence. In the Narrative of Olaudah Equiano, it tells
about his life and what he went through as a slave. A few things were trading between white slave
owners, along with very harsh treatment. The people who transported the slaves ignored the fact that
they were humans, too. The journey being labeled as horrific would be an understatement and would
not give it justice. There was an abundant amount of trading and bartering that happened between
white slave owners. We were not many days in the merchant s custody before we were sold after their
usual manner. (Page 4) The slaves were thought of and treated

Martha Irvine s Bros Before Hos
Martha Irvine, a graduate of the University of Michigan published an article titled Queer Evolution
which talked about how the word Queer itself has evolved into the mainstream. Originally the word s
definition was to describe something as odd or weird. Society utilized the word Queer as an insult to
the LGBTQ community. As more sexual orientations are being discovered, Queer became a more
accepted word in the gay community in order to make things simpler. Irvine s essay showed that
whatever word we use, can affect a person depending on the intention, and the tone of how it s being
said. Irvine s essay is very similar to Deborah Tannen s essay You re Wearing That which talks about
the relationship between mother and daughter and how words have established expectations for
women based on their appearance and behavior. Another essay that well connects with Tannen and
Irvine s articles is a section from a book written by Michael Kimmel titled Bros Before Hos : The Guy
Code. Kimmel talks about The Guy Code , rules that a man should always follow in order to be
considered a real man. Words are the reason why these standards have been established for all genders
and sexualities. The relationships between parents and children would be better if words were
replaced, which would abolish the expectations that society has for men and women. Many decades
ago, The LGBTQ community were seen as the worst of society, they were labeled as the lowest of the
low, something nobody

Noir Film Analysis
American film noir didn t start as a genre but a visual style of film as depicted in 1940s American
films like This Gun for Hire, but following the coining of the term by post world war II french
scholars film noir especially from the 70s to the present day through films like LA Confidential has
evolved to a very recognizable and full featured genre . We are able to recognize films within the noir
genre as with any genre films for their distinct syntactic and semantic qualities, the same
theories/concepts Rick Altman uses to define the difficult concept of genre remain very similar
between the 1940s noir and today s contemporary neo noir. In talking about the syntactic and semantic
list of film noir its pretty helpful to know and understand what these elements are. It s difficult to say
that there is a sole formula for every noir film, but there are many recognizable commonly occuring
traits that remain constant from the genre s inception over 70 years ago going forward into
contemporary neo noir. In terms of syntactic elements as identified in the Belton text s noir chapter the
most universal elements would be the complex narrative structure, the violent nature and involvement
with crime, fem fatales, arbitration of justice, tough guys, and loneliness. These are really what drive
the film non visually whereas the semantics contribute to the visual stylings of the film. Noir films
share the common semantic elements of low key lighting, dark and rainy nights, sequencing,

My Life Of A Doctor
A stethoscope, box of bandages, syringe, and thermometer all made of plastic and enclosed in a small
case with a red cross imprinted on the front. These items had been some of my favorite childhood toys
and represent how long I have wanted to become a doctor. Apart from a brief carpentry phase when I
was 7, I honestly cannot recall a time when my mind was not focused on a future career in medicine.
Part of this early interest was undoubtedly spurred by my family s history in the field. I have multiple
family members who have been nurses or physicians; however, the largest influence was my Father
whom I have looked up to as a role model and example of the kind of doctor that I want to be. I loved
that my Dad was a doctor. I realized the importance of his career, but mostly I loved always having
someone there to help me through all of my minor and major childhood traumas. When I was young
and received a gruesome 4th of July sparkler wound, my Dad was able to calm me down and make me
feel safe. Although I may have squirmed and cried, I knew my Father could help me because I knew
that he was a Doctor and what that meant. I knew the amount of training he had received, the years of
school and residency, and most importantly that I could trust him to take care of me. That level of trust
is something that I aspire to gain in the future.
As I grew older I became more interested in medicine but for different reasons. The experience that
affected my medical aspirations the most in

behavior. The chapter goes into detail the process and organization of the brain as well as what it is
made up of. For example, The structure of a neuron is broken down and is explained by each part.
Neurons are the individual cells in the nervous system that receive, integrate, and transmit
information. Neurons contain different parts that work together to make a whole.
The soma, otherwise known as the cell body, this contains the cell nucleus and much of the chemical
machinery common to most cells. It also has a part named the dendrites. The dendrites are the parts of

The Godfather Personal Beliefs
Modern and ambitious personal desires have become very distant from the old fashioned preaching of
family traditions. Because of the gap between the bases of personal desires and family traditions, a
person is left having to choose one and abandon the other. This is clearly illustrated in The Godfather ,
directed by Francis Ford Coppola, by how Michael Corleone s lifestyle completely changed when he
switched from pursing his own goals to working in the family business. Based on the ideas presented
in The Godfather , it becomes clear that for an individual to do something simply because their family
wants them to can cause the person to have to throw their dreams into the wind, reform their beliefs to

certifications in that time, therefore advancing your IT career? Or do you want to be in the exact same
place you are today? The only person who can make this decision is you. Moreover, I can speak from
experience that when you begin putting your career into motion the possibilities are unlimited.
However, you have to get started today.

Juvenile Delinquency And Family Structure Of The Family
For quite a while, children encountering youth in single parent families have been seen as being
extraordinary. Being raised by only a solitary parent seems, by all accounts, to be troublesome, yet
finished the years it has turned out to be more conceivable to do. Today numerous children are
growing up to wind up plainly more effective, and sincerely stable whether they are raised by the two
guardians, or only one, to display the troublesome way that life may toss our direction.
The issue lies in the distinction of youthful children raised by single parents, verses kids being raised
by both their mom and dad. Does the child require the two parents? Does the young man require a
father figure around? Does the administration offer help to single parents? What part do step parents
and step children play? With much theory, this point has turned uncommonly fascinating What
individuals must comprehend is that legitimately bringing up a child does not depend on the structure
of a family but should be more focused on the process or values that are taught to these children as
they develop. Children that just have one parent can be just as productive with emotional, social and
behavioral abilities as those with two guardians.
Individuals guarantee that the main path for children to increase full passionate and behavioral
abilities are to be raised by both a mother and a father. In the article, Juvenile Delinquency and Family
Structure , author Anika Doggett states, Juveniles are

Differences Between Monarchy and Democracy
Differences between Monarchy and Democracy
1. Democracy is a type of government that emanates from the constituted powers that are elected,
depending on the system (presidentialist, parliamentary, constitutional monarchy, semi presidentialist,
semi parliamentary, etc...) directly or indirectly by the people. Whereas in an absolute monarchy, an
absolutist regime exists and is in power because of family lineage.
2. In democracy three state powers(in most cases) exist as a checks and balances system, these being
the judicial, executive and legislative as it was enunciated in Montesquieu s Of the Spirit of law. And
they are independent, complementary and with no relation of subordination. Whereas in an absolute

civilian or a military that was entitled to the position of monarch by inheritance, whereas in a pure

democratic, fit as an example for they are semi democratic, the first one has 4 branches (executive,
judicial, legislative, and the attorney general). China has five branches(Executive yuan, legislative

difference between powers or branches and bodies. Powers are the ones that control one specific social
role, verbi gratia, the judiciary controls the courts, but bodies serve a specific function under a power
or branch. An example to serve this is Germany that has three brances( executive, judicial and

The Thesis of The Patriot Act s Impact on the Government s Ability to Conduct Electronic Domestic

American populous, more specifically the representatives said populous elects, should proceed with
hesitancy when approving laws that allow privacy to be breached in the name of national security.

Henderson, in the article, remarks on the tremendous power, and insufficient accountability, that
domestically operating law enforcement (ranging from local police to the FBI) are given under the
surveillance clauses of The Patriot Act. Specifically, it is stated that law enforcement conducting
domestic surveillance no longer [have] the corresponding obligation to demonstrate that the target
actually uses the device being tapped (Henderson, 197). This is to say that, when submitting a request
for domestic surveillance, the inquisitor of said request no longer has to supply proof that the device
that would be tapped is actually in possession or use of the surveillance target. The Patriot Act s
revisions to electronic surveillance law are a staunch proliferation of already liberal surveillance
requirements in place before 2001 under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (commonly
abbreviated as FISA); wherein surveillance restrictions were already relaxed. In fact, in a twenty four
year period (from 1978 to 2002) only two requests for surveillance were ever rejected by FISA courts

The Furman v. Georgia case has set a precedent on how the courts deal with the disputable issue that is
capital punishment because it was the first time the Supreme Court addressed the problem. Both
racism and the morality of the death penalty have been relatively controversial issues in the United
States for several years. The Furman v. Georgia case conjoined both matters. The case declared that if
capital punishment were to be used, it was going to be used for all the right reasons, not due to any
prejudices or discrimination by reason of the Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments. Additionally, the
case placed a moratorium on the death penalty because it was argued that the application of Furman s

observed that not only were death penalties given to the poor, uneducated, and sick minorities, but that
they had been taking place due to miscommunication and lack of guidance and understanding of the

My Writing Style Of Writing
Throughout this class I have learn many different writing styles. We used APA form of writing to type
our paper and essay. I have also learned that it s good to take your time and spend more time thinking
about what to write, other than just righting a paper right off back. I have learned that it s not a good
idea to write a paper on the day it s done, that s more like a ruff daft. My teacher have helped me
understand different point of writing. Which all writing deal with an ethos, pathos and logos, either
one or all of them will run through anything that tell you anything in writing. From what emotion are
there to who have the rights to speak at the moment to what are the facts to agree with this person. As
a class we have read articles, bio from many people to understand that it s more then what the person

writer is saying. Working together to understand something and work better than being alone thinking
about a situation you can t understand.
I have wrote many different kind of essay and paper. From a point of view of three person, first
person, what you think this person is telling you, to writing how you feel, what changed your life to

  • 2. Com Toibin Brooklyn Analysis In Colm Toibin s Brooklyn, there are many opportunities for the protagonist Eilis Lacey that are handed to her. Despite these opportunities, the path of least resistance is chosen. Many hardships are faced every day. Eilis feels that she has no other options but to take what s given to her and be happy with it. Not only are her options a mess but so is her love life. Relationships can be difficult; but between Eilis and Tony, the much needed effort is not being put in. An unhappy and unfulfilled life, is led when Eilis realizes that she has not done anything for herself, only to please others. Eilis was faced with many tough decisions, these were taking without forethought. Therefore, Eilis s life was not fulfilled in the way it could have been. Eilis has a problem with speaking her mind; she does not want to make anyone angry with her, even if this leaves her miserable. Eilis feels extremely silent with some of her opinions She wished she could think of something smart to say to Miss Kelly without being openly rude. Instead, she remained silent. (Toibin 6). Remaining silent is a big problem, especially if it puts personal wants on the back burner. In Eilis s case this is exactly what happens. Eilis takes what is given to her without question In the United States, he said, There would be plenty of work for someone like you with good pay. (Toibin 24). A job had been previously aligned for Eilis in Brooklyn and she was too naïve to say no; she did not want to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Omaha Indian Tribes The Omaha Indian tribes were settled in many different places. They were known as the Midwestern Native American tribe. They settled in present day places such as northeast Nebraska and northwest Iowa near the Missouri River. They also were settled in present day northeast Nebraska. Many other tribes were settled in Nebraska such as the Cheyenne, Arapaho, Pawnee, Ponca, Otoe, Kansa, Yankon and Dakota Sioux, and the Lakota Sioux tribes. The Omaha Indians main reservations remain in present day Nebraska in Thurston and Cuming county. The total land area that the Omaha Indians had was about 307 square miles. The city, Omaha, is the largest city in Nebraska and is named after them. Although the Omaha Indian tribe did not have a lot of land like many other tribes, they still were a well functioning tribe. The Omaha tribe had a unique culture in which many people were involved and many traditions were celebrated. The Omaha tribe often lived in settled villages of round earthen lodges in the winter and fall. In the spring and summer, the Omaha families were able to move from camp to camp as they followed buffalo herds. When these Omaha families moved from place to place they would live in teepees, or tents, that would hide them from the buffalo. Within these households everyone had responsibilities. Omaha men were hunters and they often went to war to protect their families. The Omaha women were farmers and they also built and transported teepees. Most children in the Omaha tribe ... • 4. William Lane Craig s Argument For The Existence Of God Many people wonder about the existence of God and if he truly exists. We have to realize that it is obvious that he exists because of his many creations. Sometimes we think that the world has so much evil so how is God here. Multiple philosophers have made proofs and arguments abut how God really does exist. Philosophers have made arguments that he exists for example Shaun Doyle says that God reveals himself to people in many ways such as that the spirit himself testifies to Christians spirits that we are God s children, William Lane Craig has found the differences his existence has made, and Pascal Wager s is an argument that says that believing in God is not on an appeal that he exists, but based on an appeal to self interest. Shaun Doyle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first way he makes a difference is if God doesn t exist then life is ultimately meaningless. If he doesn t exist then it makes no difference of who we are or what we do. The second way he makes a difference is if God does not exist, then we must ultimately live without hope. If there is no God, there is no hope of saving from evil. If he doesn t exist there is no afterlife. The last way he makes a difference is if God does exist, then not only is there meaning and hope, but there is also the possibility of coming to know God and his love personally. If he does exist then it can a make life changing differences for us. God wants to have life long relationships with us and pray to him during hard times. Lastly, Pascal s Wager argument by Blaise Pascal that says that believing in God is not on an appeal that he exists, but based on an appeal to self interest. We choose if we want to believe in God. If we do believe in God it will make Pascal s argument a true statement. By believing in God we receive a reward in heaven and by not believing in God we receive a punishment in hell and gain nothing. It is our own decision to choose whether to believe in God. We receive a better reward by believing in God and obtain a loving and long relationship with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The peaceful protesters waved flags and wore white while marching. Police was deployed in the city to maintain law and order during the protest. There is no food. There is no paper. There is no medicine. We are dying, a protester Maria Alvarez told CNN. Please, help Venezuela. This has to end. Maduro, you have to understand that your time is up. This is a conscious people and will be mobilized forever, Maduro said at the rally. A few protesters wore masks and threw rocks at the police. The police then used tear gas to bring them under control and detained some of the rioters. Maduro said that those who incite violence in the city will be prosecuted as per the law. In view of the recent events, he said that he will withdraw immunity protections from politicians, so that the suspected coup plotters in parliament could be prosecuted by courts. Maduro told the rally of supporters, who also took to the streets, that the opposition wants to carry out a coup to overthrow his government in a similar coup attempt as in 2002 which sought to oust his late predecessor Hugo Chavez. We are here at the call of our President, to defend the revolution, Carolina Aponte, a 37 year old housewife at the pro government rally, was quoted as saying by AFP. The referendum had moved a step closer in July when National Electoral Council (CNE) verified 1 percent of the signatures on recall petition required in the process. Some 20 percent of the signatures of registered voters (3.9 million signatures) are needed to for the recall voting to be confirmed. The MUD (Mesa de la Unidad/Democratic Unity Roundtable), which holds power in Venezuelan parliament asked the CNE to make available 14,500 centers and 40,000 computers for people to sign the

  • 7. A Long Night For The Twins It had been a long night for the twins. It was one of those nights where just as they thought they had fought their last fight, a new one would emerge. Or at least to them it seemed like it. Their master had always told them to be prepared such battles, for as they grew stronger so would their enemies. It seemed like he was right. They had been home for a mere ten minutes before Mark proclaimed that he was hungry. His sister Mindy warming down from the night they had just had rolling her eyes as she knew what that would come to mean. Mark being the eldest of the two had always had a way of prioritising himself. Something Mindy and gotten acquainted to over their short lives. It was simply who he was and she doubted that he would change. He was her opposite and they complemented each other. That complementation making them a strong partnership in their Kung Fu. Mindy? Mark s voice called out from his resting spot. That spot being the couch in the center of their living room and his body draped across it, eyes firmly closed. His own way of calming and cooling down after a fight. You know Master will not approve of the way you treat the furniture Came a reply from his left in the form of a whisper. Mindy was not the one to be loud and outgoing. For being the youngest she always helped keep her brother in line when she had to or when Master Grandpa had told her too. The rest of the time she enjoyed being unnoticed, a shadow in the dark. That was her being. With her words ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Luciano s influence also solidified at this time, as the Volstead Act provided him with the perfect opportunity to start an illegal business. 1920 Prohibition started in the U.S. and provided crime families with the opportunity to get involved in particularly profitable affairs. John Colosimo, one of the most important gangsters in the U.S. is killed the same year, most probably because of his reluctance to get involved in alcohol trafficking. His death makes it possible for people to understand the full complexity of illegal affairs in the country as numerous other gangsters and even politicians attend his funeral. 1921 Johnny Torrio, Chicago s crime boss, brings in Capone as his bodyguard. 1924 Torrio manages to set the foundation of one of the most successful bootlegging businesses in the country. • 10. The Importance Of Proper Representation Of Data Abstract This paper discusses the importance of proper representation of data that is mined from social media. The discussion illuminates the various techniques that can be used for representing the data (Textual representation, Tables, Graphs, Infographic). • 11. President Jimmy Carter And The Iran Hostage Crisis Mere minutes after President Jimmy Carter was out of office, the Iran Hostage Crisis, for which his presidency is most remembered, was over. Behind him was a disjointed foreign and confused domestic policy. When he left office, Carter s approval rating was 34 percent, and his disapproval rating nearly twice that (Roper Center). Today, it seems that he is a better ex President than he was a president, as evidenced in his founding of the Carter Center, his cultivation of his presidential library, his contributions to Habitat for Humanity, and his numerous other humanitarian efforts. During his term, he had a poor relationship with Congress, a low approval rating with the American people, and a lack of cohesive international or domestic policy. I believe his two greatest failures are also the two which marked his entire presidency and caused the drop in his approval ratings: the confused and faltering domestic and international policies which lasted throughout his presidency and the Iran Hostage Crisis. Jimmy Carter was a one term president who won on a campaign of being not Washington and not Gerald Ford (Hargrove, 1988). Shortly after entering office, his refusal to trade political favors with members of Congress, unwillingness to learn the rules of Washington politics and play by them, and the general lack of communication between his administration and Congress stalled any possible working relationship. This cannot be seen as a failure on the part of Congress, who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Theory of Chronic Sorrow and Nursing Application Theory of Chronic Sorrow and Nursing Application The theory of chronic sorrow is a middle range nursing theory explored largely by Georgene Gaskill Eakes, Mary Lermnann Burke and Maragret A. Hainsworth. The theory provides framework for understanding and working with individuals who have experienced a significant loss of a loved one. As stated by Eakes et al. (1998, p. 179), Chronic sorrow is described as ...the periodic recurrence of permanent, pervasive sadness or other grief related feelings associated with a significant loss. As nurses, it is vitally important to understand and be aware of the high potential for chronic sorrow to occur when treating patients across the life span with chronic and traumatic conditions. Hobdell (1996) interview a mother of a two year old with a neural tube defect about chronic sorrow in which she states If you were to ask me these questions in about a year and he was not toilet trained, I would respond very differently. The statement provided by the mother supports the notion of parents feeling grief over a child s lack of achieving developmental milestones. Parents may feel psychological emotions such as frustration and helplessness in relationship to burden of care and developmental delays. It is imperative as nurses to educate families and provide the tools necessary to ensure the best possible outcome for both the patient and the caregiver(s). A supporting study by Austin and McDermott (1988) shows a positive relationship between factors such as the ability to maintain family integration, optimistic definition of the circumstances, social support, self esteem, and psychological stability. Maintaining a positive relationship within these components in this authors viewpoint, can aid in effectively managing the affects of chronic sorrow. Isaksson, Ann Krisitin, Ahlstrom, and Gerd (2208) study describes the ways in which patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) display and manage chronic sorrow. Human Nature In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness Joseph Conrad s incredibly erudite, and lengthy prose in his, Heart of Darkness, challenges the reader to scrutinize human nature in all walks of life. While written in 1899, Heart of Darkness still serves to be a novella for the ages. With exceptional flexibility to a numerous amount of human issues Conrad s novella is easily paralleled with countless contemporary affairs; reaching from international, national, social, and personal matters (Conrad). Not only recently, but for many years we have been fighting in the middle east. Very recently, militants of the Islamic State executed seventy civilians in a Syrian town (Deeb, abcnews.com). As Conrad explores humankind s evil innate desires in the Heart of Darkness through violence, hypocrisy, and our interior world one can straightforwardly connect such acts with behaviors articulated in Syria these past couple days. This devoted band called itself the Eldorado Exploring Expedition, and I believe they were sworn to secrecy. Their talk, however, was the talk of sordid buccaneers; it was reckless without hardihood, greedy without audacity, and cruel without courage; there was not an atom of foresight or of serious intention in the whole batch of them, and they did not seem aware these things are wanted for the work of the world. To tear treasure out of the bowels of the land was their desire, with no more moral purpose at the back of it then there is in burglars breaking into a safe. The reformation performed by Teresa of Avila created an evident change as she struggled against the fact that men were only able do things such as reforming the church. It was extremely unusual for women to make significant changes thus, it was very much a start of women gaining power in religious aspects. Another achievement that led to a change in Catholics was Teresa s writings and books. Her books were about her travels, reformation and establishment of convents and were guidance for the other nuns/Catholics. After 25 years, in the Carmelite convent, Teresa established a small convent in Avila called St Joseph s and this was the beginning of Teresa establishing many other convents allowing other females to also become nuns. St Teresa also found that some of the church was corrupt and tried to bring it back to focusing on the primitive rule so that Catholics could enjoy all that God has to offer. Although this was successful Teresa was unable to remain in this place of prayer, for the rest of her life, so she decided to travel across Spain, establishing new convents and followed her reform vision of the Discalced Carmelite life. What can correctional administrators do to prevent or at least reduce violence in correctional facilities? In spite of the fact that the situation is intricate, and some conflicting discoveries have risen, for the most part the literature supports the idea that the more coercive the jail environment the more prominent the potential for savagery becomes. This is particularly so where jail administration and treatment of detainees are seen by detainees as unreasonable or illegitimate, as this reinforces detainee solidarity contrary to the authorities. A jail approach that keenly consolidates situational and social counteractive action techniques upheld by fitting administration strategies and exploration based staff enlistment and preparing practices, is likely the most encouraging model for lessening interpersonal savagery in correctional facilities. • 20. Socrates Holiness What exactly is holiness? This is a question that was brought up in Plato s infamous Euthyphro , which addresses the question of what is holy and unholy through the interactions and conversation between Socrates and Euthyphro. Before diving into the analysis and evaluation of the conversation that occurs between the two, it is necessary to first develop a background between the characters. Euthyphro can be classified as an arrogant and somewhat idiotic priest who is awaiting a trial to prosecute his own father for the murder of a slave. It is at the entrance of the law courts that Euthyphro encountered Socrates, a well recognized interpreter of religion and theology. Socrates notices Euthyphro and converses with the man. Socrates has one main goal that he hopes to achieve through this conversation: To discover the definition of the holy. It is from this point onward that the essay will cover analysis of the conversation in greater detail, uncovering the philosophy of holiness. To begin, the holy must have the form of the holy. Form is often an expression of something s essence, and essence is usually categorized as the original defining characteristic of an item. If you were to remove the essence from something, then it would simply cease to exist as that thing. So, if the holy must have the form of the holy, then this then informs us that the definition of holiness must capture/attain everything in total that is holy. It is similar to the idea of all or nothing . ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although many voyages of discovery were started in search of wealth, religion was also a big reason for exploring other continents. Religion wasn t the main motivation for European exploration in the 15th and 16th century. Instead, the main motivation was economic motives, which was closely followed by religion, and to a lesser extent was technological developments. The main motivation of European exploration was economic motives. People were beginning to become more interested in traveling by sea to reach Asia and Africa and all their riches(Duiker,494). The spice trade was what linked Europe to Asia, and the gold trade linked Europe to Africa. Furthermore, in the 15th and 16th centuries, as the economy and purchasing power of Europe developed and increased, the spice demand grew at a steady rate(Arnold,12). Therefore, spices were one of the few things that made overseas trade possible. Europe did not have very much gold to begin with, so ultimately the gold mines that they did possess were emptied. After 1400, Europe started trading with the areas that produced gold, increasing their amount of gold. Gold was very important to Europe, because not only was it used for decorations, but also their currency. Within this ancestry, a new level of movement began to come into existence known as bipedalism: the ability to walk and run upright on two legs. There are various theories about when our ancestors started walking upright, but a popular view is that perhaps about 7 million years ago, early hominids began to adapt to a climate that was cooling globally. The huge rainforest expanses in Africa were being replaced with savannah and patches of woodland, requiring the tree climbing apes to become more adept at walking on land. Our ancestors who ventured out into the savannah were rewarded with roots, shrubs and occasional animal carcasses, ensuring that those who walked on two legs were more likely to survive. Even so, the jump from trees to land is not all that significant because some of the early hominids anatomical structures may have already been pre adapted to bipedalism while climbing trees and stretching for fruit. Whereas in an absolute monarchy, an absolutist regime exists and is in power because of family lineage. 2. In democracy three state powers(in most cases) exist as a checks and balances system, these being the judicial, executive and legislative as it was enunciated in Montesquieu s Of the Spirit of law. And they are independent, complementary and with no relation of subordination. Whereas in an absolute monarchy, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Henderson The Thesis of The Patriot Act s Impact on the Government s Ability to Conduct Electronic Domestic Surveillance of Ongoing Cosmetic Communications by Nathan C. Henderson outlines that the American populous, more specifically the representatives said populous elects, should proceed with hesitancy when approving laws that allow privacy to be breached in the name of national security. Henderson asserts, in the article s thesis, that The Patriot Act opens the door to the United States Government to breaching the privacy and extraneously surveilling citizens with no connection to terrorism. Moreover, the article maintains that, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Henderson, in the article, remarks on the tremendous power, and insufficient accountability, that domestically operating law enforcement (ranging from local police to the FBI) are given under the surveillance clauses of The Patriot Act. Specifically, it is stated that law enforcement conducting domestic surveillance no longer [have] the corresponding obligation to demonstrate that the target actually uses the device being tapped (Henderson, 197). This is to say that, when submitting a request for domestic surveillance, the inquisitor of said request no longer has to supply proof that the device that would be tapped is actually in possession or use of the surveillance target. The Patriot Act s revisions to electronic surveillance law are a staunch proliferation of already liberal surveillance requirements in place before 2001 under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 (commonly abbreviated as FISA); wherein surveillance restrictions were already relaxed. In fact, in a twenty four year period (from 1978 to 2002) only two requests for surveillance were ever rejected by FISA courts (Henderson, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Georgia case has set a precedent on how the courts deal with the disputable issue that is capital punishment because it was the first time the Supreme Court addressed the problem. Both racism and the morality of the death penalty have been relatively controversial issues in the United States for several years. The Furman v. Georgia case conjoined both matters. The case declared that if capital punishment were to be used, it was going to be used for all the right reasons, not due to any prejudices or discrimination by reason of the Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments. Additionally, the case placed a moratorium on the death penalty because it was argued that the application of Furman s sentencing would be an example of cruel and unusual ... The courts stated juries were allotted too much power in sentencing, hence prompting the racial bias that dismounted in not only the Furman v Georgia case, but a multitudinous amount of cases in the south. In a 5 4 decision, it was concluded that the implementation of Furman s sentencing was cruel and unusual. Two justices concluded the death penalty was unconstitutional, while three stated that the method in which the sentencing was being utilized, made it unconstitutional. Justice Douglas also observed that not only were death penalties given to the poor, uneducated, and sick minorities, but that they had been taking place due to miscommunication and lack of guidance and understanding of the law, which furthermore concluded in the use of preconceived notions and prejudices that guided the jurors in ... • 40. Diel-Alder Reaction Lab Introduction: The Diel Alder reaction is a concerted cycloaddition between a diene and a dienophile. The first people to investigate this were Otto Diels and Kurt Alder, they were able to reported large variety of the dienes which turned out to be useful and so the procedure was named after them. This method is an efficient way to build rings that are stereospecific. A Diel Alder reaction involves cyclic rearrangement of bonding electrons and forming and breaking bond(s) simultaneously. The reaction happens with in a single transition state. It has the smallest volume of all the other starting materials that are use during this reaction. Diel Alder reaction is updraft reaction, which is starts when you add heat. During this reaction, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
