The Cherry Orchard and A Doll’s House.
People bring their downfalls upon themselves. Do certain habitually practice leave them
wondering what wrong they did? Torvald from Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House and Madame
Ranevsky from Anton Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard are left to start afresh at the end of the
plays after they neglected a key element in their lives. Torvald toys with Nora, his wife, fulfilling
only his wants and only his needs and abases her; never considering her his equal. The fallacious
choice Madame Ranevsky makes concerning her home and family leads them to destitution and
separation. Ibsen shows Torvald as being an egotistical man who decides to mend his ways after
his neglected wife leaves him while Chekhov shows Madame Ranevsky neglect as never effecting...

Chekhov shows Grisha s death as the first root of Madame Ranevsky s neglect towards her
family. It s just six years since...a month afterwards poor Grisha was drowned...too much for my
mamma; she ran away, ran away without looking back says Anya on page 6. Ranevsky s poor
nurturing habits led to Grisha s death because she wasn t watching him like a mother should.
His death was the excuse that Ranevsky used to leave for Paris for the next five years. Leaving
the orchard to accumulate a large debt that she must pay off when she returns, or lose the
orchard. Madame Ranevsky neglects that she is poor and gives out money, which increases her
debt. She was born an aristocrat and doesn t understand the meaning of how money was earned.
Her brother, on page 13, describes it as scattering the money . But yet he makes no attempt to
stop her spending. Anya says, She s already sold her villa near Mentone; she s nothing
left...mother s got a footman now, Yasha; we ve brought him here. (Chekhov 5). This quote gives
us insight on how malicious her spending habits are. She hires unnecessary help that she can t
afford. She herself says, I had a lot of money yesterday...I go squandering aimlessly. [Drops the
purse, scattering gold coins] There, I ve dropped it all! (Chekhov 19). The scattering of the coins
is an actual visual of how she neglects money since she lets them fall to the ground, showing no

Themes In Inheritance Of Loss
Inheritance of loss, is a moving novel by Indian writer Kiran Desai, whereby we see the effect of
colonialism and post colonialism and the consequence that comes with it. Many critical themes are
explored, Leach lists them as colonialism, a revolution, multi ethnic nationhood and illegal
immigration in the US, where political allegiance impacts on love affairs, and where the reality of
life in a grubby New York basement reshapes the American Dream (2007). Desai mentions many of
these historical events in her novel that give us and insight view as to what was happening in the
inside, within the people of India, as opposed to only seeing the surface and elections going on.
Desai looks at the younger generation as being mainly affected by losing their identity to the
suppression of the Europeanized world. The novel is set in primarily in the 1980 s, but makes
mention of earlier times when the Congress Party was sparking up as well. These were crucial times

The Judge has a flashback whereby he got rid of his wife for having mistakenly attended a
political rally which was in favor of Nehru. He was later informed that his wife had partaken of
scrambled eggs and toast with top members of the Congress Party (Desai, 310), even though it wasn
t entirely the way it happened but the fact was that she was there, and the embarrassment which it
would have brought upon the commissioner was enough for the Judge to have lost his career at the
time. Consequently, he lost his temper and abused his wife for this unintentional action. It is quite
ironic that Desai has the Judge, Jemubhai Patel, ruling for the opposition, since in the history of

Difference Between Western And Western Animation
Difference between Western animation and Eastern Europe Animation
Western use animation cartoon for the most advertising and press. Animated cartoons allowed the
government to spread their message in a much more entertaining manner. Bugs Bunny Bond Rally
is a classic cartoon depicting Bugs Bunny singing and dancing about war bonds. The film was
given to Henry Morgenthau of the U.S. Treasury Department on Monday, December 15, 1941. It
was during such World War II films that Bugs achieved his popularity and made him a national
mascot. The government also used animation studios like Walt Disney to encourage people to pay
their taxes promptly. In both of these films, paying taxes is described as a right and a privilege and
should be done gladly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Disney style survived in Soviet animation through the Second World War, The art of
animation can be traced back to prehistoric and ancient times when people drew multiple pictures
on walls and clay pots to try and capture the illusion of life. This eventually led to the invention of
the Zoetrope in 1834. However it was not until the advent of film did animation start to take off.
There is no single creator of film animation, since many people were working on several similar
projects around the same time.Western animatoris the creator of special effect in motion pictures,
the first people to use animation with this technique. discovered a technique when his camera

Margolin Vs Novelty Now Case Study
Milestone 1
Julia Cummings
BUS 206
September 24, 2017
In the case of Margolin v. Novelty Now the appropriate court for this lawsuit depends upon several
factors. In personal jurisdiction the book states that the courts are given the power to provide a
decision in affecting the rights of individuals (Kubasek). In this case, the court will give a decision
giving rights to Mr. Margolin, and taking rights from Novelty Now. For subject matter jurisdiction,
a certain specified court will be able to hear the case This means, that it must be decided which
court hears the case, whether state or federal jurisdiction. Since this case contains three different
states, the federal court system must be the one to hear the case. In this case, minimum contacts
must be determined to decide if a certain state will have power to assert personal jurisdiction over
a defendant from another state (Kubasek). In this case, it must be decided if New York will take
personal jurisdiction of the defendants residing in California, or Novelty Now residing in Florida.
Alternative dispute resolution may be an option to resolve this case. ADR is a method of resolving
cases through methods other than court. These can be negotiation, mediation, arbitration, mini trials,
private trials, etc. (Kubasek). In this case, negotiation outside of trial would be a good option for
Funny Face. ADR is often cheaper than a traditional trial as well. This way they would not have
to face bad publicity for this incident. This might also be a good idea for Mr. Margolin because
the case will go much faster, meaning he could get restitution much faster, and would cut his legal
costs as well.
Language on the Funny Face website appears to limit any claim filed to arbitration as a means
of resolving the dispute. Arbitration is a method of resolution to a case by choosing a neutral
third party outside a judicial setting (Kubasek). Arbitration would be a good solution for both Mr.
Margolin and Funny Face in this case. Mr. Margolin would be able to explain his condition and
provide medical evidence stating that Funny Face was indeed the cause of his condition. However,
a neutral third party may believe that there was enough stated by Funny Face for Mr. Margolin to
have

Money Can t Buy Happiness
A 2010 study conducted by Princeton University s Center For Health and Well Being threatens to
discredit the age old adage that money can t buy happiness because, as it turns out, money can
buy happiness...at least to an extent. The study isolated a so called happiness benchmark for
annual income, at or above which research subjects reported higher levels of overall life
satisfaction. A possible ramification of the study is that because certain groups of people have more
difficulty finding and maintaining job positions that provide an adequate salary, they are much
more likely to experience lower overall life satisfaction, and by extension happiness, purely as a
result of their heritage or upbringing. Although a substantial income alone cannot make you
happier on a day to day basis, those able to attain an annual income of $75,000+ are generally more
satisfied with their lives altogether.
The Price of Happiness: $75,000?
The Wall Street Journal observed that in the Princeton study, the participants life satisfaction was
directly linked to their income and how they measured their life in comparison to others, but when
participants evaluated their inner life, their income had far less of an impact on their perceived
happiness (Frank). Psychologist and Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman, who helped to pioneer the
study alongside Princeton economist Angus Deaton, noted that What [researchers] didn t know
before is the extent to which life evaluation and emotional well being

The political environment is likely to keep changing in at least some of the countries where Lloyds
is operating. If this is not mitigated it could have higher impact than 3.
2.2 Changes in regulation
Any changes in existing regulation could pose a threat to the company since it operates in regulated
markets. Failure to keep up with the regulation and abide by new rules immediately could have
negative impacts for the company. Prasant Manandhar, head pharmacist at Hemel Hempstead
noted, These companies could face problems with licensing, processing prescriptions or even with
regulations of product traceability and how products need to be stored etc. quite easily if the
regulations change even slightly.
This is a very regulated market, thus the regulation does not change very frequently however,
since Lloydspharmacy operates in more than 20 countries, it is possible that within the next 2 3
years, there could be some changes in one or more of these countries. The impact is moderate
because companies are usually prepared for changes like these. Also the mitigation is not very
difficult therefore with a representative in major trade associations Lloyds can be prepared for it.
2.3 Changes in consumer behavior
Change in consumer behavior could negatively impact Lloydspharmacy. If customers spend less on
their products, if shopping habits and preferences change and people

Essay about Porter s 5 in Mining Industry
1. Porters 5 forces Analysis:
1.1 Buyer power:
The buyers for mining industry usually have medium to high power. There are two elements that
could affect the buyer s power. One is buyer s level of negotiation; the other is buyer s price
sensitivity. In our case, the two companies are producing coal and uranium. These two products are
mainly used for producing electricity. Buyers for these natural resources must have large quantity
of demand, and also they usually have government behind them for negotiation. Even through these
natural resources are unrenewable and limited, there are other mining companies producing them
and these resources are undifferentiated from other companies products. This makes the buyers

1.3 Rivalry among existing firms:
The competition of mining industry is medium to high. One major competition for mining industry
is the competition for resources and mines, which is different from other industries. Since the
resources are limited and unrenewable, together with the continues increasing demand for energy,
such as coal demand of China and India, the battle of exploiting and developing new mines are
intensive. Also, there are many competitors in the industry. However, since the exit barriers are
high, the competition is limited within the existing companies. Companies in the industry might
battle for larger market share but facing little threat of new entries. Thus, the competition in the
industry is concluded as medium to high.
1.4 Threat of new entrants:
New entrants may pose a threat to the company by introducing new innovative products at a
competitive prices and eating into their market share and customer loyalty. The threat of entry for
the coal and uranium industry tends to be low due to high entry barriers. The reason for this is the
government regulations and restriction on coal and uranium mining companies. Resources of coal
and uranium are laminated. The capital expenditure or set up of mining company is very high.
Moreover, mining companies has a high exit cost and that because the use of specialized asset. Also,

Taking a Look at the Management Process
An organizations goals and objectives can be accomplished through leadership. Leadership refers to
inspire people to contribute and perform well in the management. It is a role of management and
leading others towards the achievement of the common goals (Channappa, 2012). Daft (2012)
reported that In today s world, industries, technologies, economies, governments, and societies are
in constant flux, and managers are responsible for helping their organizations navigate through the
unpredictable with flexibility and innovation (p. 4). A good manager is needed in every management
because he or she is the one who determine the successes and future of the management (Daft,
2012). He or she is also the one to persevere unremittingly in facing the failure. As elaborated by
Griffin Ebert (1996), there are four vital steps in the management process which are planning,
organizing, leading and controlling (refer to Figure 1 in Appendix 1). The first step in the
management process is planning. The process starts with managers setting the objectives and
identifying the goals to ensure that mission is achieved (Daft, 2012). Firstly, an overall plan is
developed by managers to ensure that the management runs smoothly and effectively in long term
(Daft, 2012). The future of an organization to be heading and how to achieve them is determined
by the manager (Daft, 2012). The second step in the planning is the managers analyze the risks
facing their organization in terms of

Ode to the West Wind Essay
The wind is one of the most powerful forces known to man. It can do things that man has been
envious of and also terrified of throughout the centuries. It is no wonder why Shelley decided to
write a poem of praise in its name. Shelley writes this poem with the speaker being a poet himself
frustrated that he can not tell the world the things that he feels the world needs to know.
Throughout the poem he continually is describing what the wind can do and what he wishes the
wind could do for him. It may be better to describe Shelley before I try to interpret the poem.

Shelley was bringing ...his two countries closer together with the structure of a poem. (Shmoop
Editorial Team) It could also be argued that Shelley was using the terza rima to emulate Dante
since he was one the great writers of that time. Although these are very plausible thoughts on
what this structure could mean, we still may never know what exactly was meant by it. After a
first read of the poem many literary techniques that Shelley used to catch the eye of the reader.
The imagery that is used in this poem is matched by no other poem that I have read, using scenes
of yellow, and black, and pale, and hectic red (Shelley 4) leaves and of the crystГ lline streams
(Shelley 31) to give a clear mental picture of exactly what Shelley wants to portray. Metaphors
are also a huge contributing factor to his ability to be able to describe what exactly he wants to
describe. Throughout the poem he refers to his thoughts being leaves that are dead and withered
and that he wishes the west wind could take these leaves of his and disperse them like it does the
literal leaves of the fall. Along with the imagery and metaphors he also uses allusions to Greek
mythology describe how the wind is powerful enough to move the clouds Like the bright hair
uplifted from the head/ Of some fierce Mænad (Shelley 20 21). His word choice throughout the
poem is mainly to credit for the way that his message is portrayed. The poem is

Theme Of Personal Resilience In The Parable Of The Sower
The theoretical notion of personal resilience has been long explored. Charles Darwin a famous
philosopher proclaims It is not the strongest that survives, but the species that survives is the one
that is able best to adapt and adjust to the changing environment in which it finds itself
(Megginson). Essentially, people are able to survive, if they adapt to the worldaround them. Octavia
E. Butlercreates this notion in her dystopian novel. In the year of 1993, Octavia E. Butler wrote the
novel Parable of the Sower. Lauren Olamina, the main character in the novel, narrates the story

As a result a new manager was brought in to the club and the fight to victory begins. Rangers

Ally was off the bench (which was almost every game) he scored at least one goal. New

Greame Souness and Ally then had a disagreement and the striker was constantly on the bench,

Techniques such as irrigation, intercropping, and crop rotation have progressively increased
efficiency in agriculture, maintaining the potential growth for global agribusiness. However, over
the last couple of centuries the industrialization of farming techniques and a growing population
saw the shift into conventional farming methods. The shift created major problems of economic
instability, climate change and pressures from farms to produce greater yields. The use of
conventional farming leaves the rural land eroded and lifeless because the farmers continuously put
high input of energy, synthetic chemicals, and genetically modified organisms to just keep on
producing a high quaintly crop. The farmers have now found themselves locked in an everlasting
cycle of loans and debt. Therefor the influence of history in time changed the dynamics of farming
in not sustaining agribusiness, but due to these past events as a world we are now starting to adopt
sustainable farming practices. These practices are influenced through our local communities,

death. In fact, in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, the text further illustrates this cause and effect
situation by stating that instead of the cross, the Albatross was hung on the Mariner s neck

night of the collision, water temperature was below freezing, the ship travelled normal speed it was
these fast speed that made the watertight compartment to bust open, the hull steel had high levels of
sulphur. Too much sulphur in steel mixed with cold it becomes brittle.instead of the steel deforming
or denting the steel it cracks and splits.

The California Coast Is The Epitome Of Artistic Culture
I always thought the Oregon Coast was the epitome of artistic culture. It seems there s an art
gallery on just about every street corner down the 101, giving me an abundance of art to
experience. In the last couple months, I spent time meandering little galleries observing
paintings, photographs, and ceramics, as well as taking in the unique work that thrives in the
area; blown glass. When it came time to write my cultural review I wasn t sure what to write
about. Then on Saturday, April 22nd, as I was wandering through the Cultural Center taking in the
40+ year old murals, I came across a flier for a musical with their last performance that night. Not
being a big musical fan I decided to attend for the experience. Boy, did I get an... Show more

Even back in Elizabethan times, female actors painted their face white to show them as part of the
aristocracy. Shakespeare himself was a make up artist, and most likely would have used makeup to
distinguish his characters. That being said, the Oompa Loompa s and Willy Wonkawere in full
makeup and wigs, which made the lack of makeup on the rest of the characters stand out more. I
also found the high school and adult characters interacting with the audience distracting. I feel
actors, of all people, should know how important getting into and staying in character is, not only
for their performance but the performance of their peers. This also helps the audience suspending
their belief and see that actor as the fictitious person they want us to see. Once that is established
it shouldn t be broken due to some unnecessary hand gesture to an audience member. As with all
plays I ve attended, the play starts with the director requesting the audience not to get up during
the performance and requested everyone silence their cell phones to avoid distracting the actors. I
wish I could have asked them to stay in character throughout the play because it distracted me as
the audience. I could go on and on about little things that bothered me. For example, the contract

Similarities Between Kenya And The United States
The United Nations Development Program is a global development network tasked with the
responsibility of advocating for change in various countries. The body works to eradicate poverty
and reduce inequalities through sustainable development. Several dimensions including health,
education and income measure human development. Each of the three dimensions has their
specific indicators. This exposition will compare the data on two countries and explain why they
rank in different categories. The two countries of interest are Kenya and the United States. The
countries rank differently on the various indicators. The paper will try to answer why this is so.
Kenya is presently ranked at position 147 with a human development indexof 0.535. On the other
hand, the United States ranks 5th with an average of 0.914. Kenya has its life expectancy at birth
at 61.72 while that of the United States is 78.94. The reason for the quite high figure is due to the
improved health care facilities that the country possesses. There are enough medicines and medical
equipment to respond adequately to emergencies. Kenya does... Show more content on

In a nutshell, the population in the United States is more educated than their Kenyan counterparts.
There are numerous reasons that could explain the above situation. The education system of the
United States is more developed as there are good policies that govern the education sector. The
access to education is high because of the numerous numbers of schools that are in place. The
teaching personnel is sufficient thus the low teacher to pupil ratio. The same can barely be said
about Kenya. This country has a limited number of schools compared to its population. Individuals
find it harder to access education primarily due to their scarcity. The transition rates are also quite
low and the teaching staff inadequate resulting in a high teacher pupil

American Bar Association Essay Topics
The American Bar Association By James R. Silkenat The original Constitution of the American
Bar Association defined the purpose of the ABA as being for the advancement of the science of
jurisprudence, the promotion of the administration of justice and a uniformity of legislation
throughout the country.... While this Constitution still considerably shapes the focus of the
ABA, today s legal profession is very different from what it was when the ABA was first formed
137 years ago in Saratoga Springs, New York. When 75 lawyers from 20 states and the District
of Columbia met to establish the American Bar Association on August 21, 1878, there was no
national code of ethics. Most lawyers practiced solo. There were no universal standards for law
schools, since most lawyers did not have law degrees and attending law school at that time was
rare. Young lawyers learned their craft through apprenticeships and by reading classic legal texts.
Improving diversity within the profession was almost certainly not a topic of conversation.
Today, the ABA is as committed as ever to improving the justice system and the law. It works to
serve its members, the legal profession, and the public by defending liberty and pursuing justice as
the national voice of the legal profession. The ABA achieves its mission through four goals, as
evidenced on the organization s website: Goal I: Serve Our Members. Objective: 1.Provide
benefits, programs and services which promote members professional

Segmented Polyurethanes Can Be Represented By Three Basic...
Segmented polyurethanes can be represented by three basic components in the following general
form: P (D(CD)n P)n
Where P is the polyol, D is the diisocyanate and C is the chain extender. Polyol, or the so called
soft segment, is an oligomeric macromonomer comprising a soft flexible chain terminated by
hydroxyl ( OH) groups. The chain extender is usually a small molecule with either hydroxyl, or
amine end groups. The diisocyanate is a low molecular weight compound that can react with either
the polyol or chain extender, leading to the interesting segmented structure. In linear polyurethanes,
the three components have a functionality of two. If a branched or crosslinked material is desired,
multifunctional polyols, isocyanates, and sometimes chain extenders can be incorporated into the
formulation. Due to the statistical nature of the copolymerization, polyurethanes have both a
distribution in total molecular weight and adistribution in the hard segment sequence length, those
copolymer sequences denoted as D(CD)n, that follow essentially a most probable distribution.
The principle chemical reaction involved in the synthesis of polyurethanes is the urethane forming
reaction, i.e., the reaction between isocyanate and hydroxyl groups.
Because this is a nucleophilic addition reaction, it is catalyzed by basic compounds such as tertiary
amines and by metal compounds such as organotin. Urethane formation is actually an equilibrium
reaction; the presence of catalyst therefore

Symptoms And Treatment Of Huntington s Disease
Huntington s Disease Huntington s disease is an inherited neurodegenerative disease that is
caused by a mutation on the HTT gene. It typically effects persons in their third to fifth decade of
life and can be passed onto their children. Neurons in the brain waste away or degenerate in
different areas causing the characterizing symptoms, such as dance like movements and mental
decline. Diagnosis and prognosis can be devastating to both individual and family. However, there
are genetic tests that can help to predict the probability of developing symptoms of the disease.
There is no cure for this debilitating disease; only symptom control and maximization of comfort
can be prescribed until future research finds a cure. This paper will review origins and symptoms,
in addition to treatments and future treatments.
Origins
GeneticsThe gene HTT is located on the short arm of chromosome 4 and is present in everyone;
however, it is the mutation of that gene that causes Huntington s disease. The mutation presents
as an error in the CAG repeat equal to additional repeats more than is normal. Normal genotypes
have less than 36 CAG repeats, anything above 36 results in an unstable gene (Scott, 2011). If a
person has 36 to 39 repeats, he or she is genetically considered to have Huntington s, but may not
develop the symptoms of Huntington s; however, his or her offspring will definitely have a great
probability of developing symptoms (Scott, 2011). A person with 40 or more repeats

The Standard Economic Theory ( Robbins )
Traditionally, standard economic theory (Robbins 1930) dictates that time use is allocated between
labor and leisure; however, Kimmel and Connelly point out this model simply does not hold true for
mothers. Kimmel and Connelly posit that mothers presumably face another category of household
work, separated into caregiving time and household production. Kimmel and Connelly modify this
economic model to expand the time use choices of mothers to include five various categories: labor
(paid market work), leisure, home production, caregiving time (parental childcare), and other
(sleeping, education, etc. which will be ignored from here on out since personal care time is too

These findings open up discussion of mothers time use as it relates to the price of childcare,
which would have important considerations and implications for policymakers. Hoffman
examines the effect of children and marriage on women s labor force participation between the
years of 1984 and 2004 using data from the Current Population Survey (CPS). The data is
valuable since it looks at the same years as recent work by Boushey of the Center for Economic
and Policy Research, which suggested that the negative impact of children on mothers labor
force participation has actually declined. Moreover, the sample sizes analyzed by Hoffman are
large varying between 56,000 and 70,000 women 25 44 years old. Using a regression analysis,
Hoffman s various models allow for the interaction of marriage with children with the year to be
taken into account. Hoffman is thus able to compare the labor force participation of single women
with children to single women without children . . . and married women with children to married
women without children (p. 8). Hoffman concludes that the negative impact of children on women
s labor force participation is almost the same as it was back in 1984 in that children reduced the

Defining Fair Punishment
The first and greatest punishment of the sinner is the conscience of sin.
Lucius Annaeus Seneca
What is the purpose of punishment? Ultimately a fair and effective punishment must not only
prevent future transgressions, but also teach a valuable life lesson. While some punishments may
seem standard: a grounding for breaking curfew, a detention for misbehaving in class, a jail
sentence for robbery, not all punishments are so cut and dry. Take the case of Casey Heynes. A
video which has since gone viral depicts the March 2011 incident. Ritchard Gale, 12, appears to
tease and taunt Casey, 15, and unleash a few unretaliated punches. In response, Casey picks
Ritchard up, and slams him to the ground. While Ritchard was relatively physically unscathed in
the encounter, Casey could have inflicted quite serious damage. It was revealed through family and
witness interviews that Casey was indeed provoked, and had suffered bullying at the hands of
classmates for years. Regardless, school and societal rules were broken, and consequences must
follow. What then, is a fair punishment? Casey Heynes should receive a four day at home
suspension. In addition, he should participate in a bullying prevention group at his school and
attend a one day anger management course. This represents a fair punishment, as it acts as a
reasonable deterrent, allows Casey to demonstrate remorse, and is reflective of both Casey and
Ritchard s feelings. In order for a punishment to be

Article Summary
In the article, New Avon CEO vows to restore the 126 year old beauty company to former glory,
Jenna Goudreau (2013) interviews Avon CEO, Sheri McCoy, on the current issues facing Avon
Products around the world and the results of management transitions in the company.
Over the past few years, Avon s stock and net income has declined as a result of misplaced focus in
different areas throughout the company. Under the former CEO, Andrea Jung, the company had an
internal focus, was expanding too fast, and failed to recognize the needs of consumers in different
markets. Under the new CEO, Avon is improving by focusing more on salesrepresentatives, cutting
jobs, reducing spending, and pulling out of failing markets. Additionally, they are incorporating
information systems and social media as selling tools, catering to individual markets, and foregoing
other growth areas until the core business is stable. With these improvements, Avon expects that it
will see a turnaround in the coming years.

Historically, Apple s competitive advantage has been product differentiation and premium pricing
strategy. Apple is known for offering high end innovative products. Mike Markkula, investor and
entrepreneur, was able to attract a lot of venture capital which allowed Apple to place a significant
investment into R D in order to create its premium products. Unlike other Wintel firms that

Question 3: How sustainable is Apple s competitive position in PCs, MP3 players, and
smartphones? Apple s long term competitive advantage will be sustained because of their
differentiation and pricing strategies. Apple nested the concept of the digital hub where Mac could
be the preferred hub to control and integrate all its products. They followed a very aggressive
distribution strategy to penetrate the market and increase their reach to the consumers. Their retail
stores will enable increased sales by letting the consumers experience their software and products
first hand. Apple placed the ads in popular fashion magazines as opposed to just general computer
publications. Through their initiatives of the digital hub comprising of iTunes, iPhoto, iWeb, they
have been successful in practicing the strategy of bundling. Using this approach they create a
perception of providing consumers the value for their money; however they extract the consumer
surplus which results in positive economic profits Appx. 1, 1.1.

Choice In Washington Irving s The Devil And Tom Walker

choice. In The Devil and Tom Walker, by Washington Irving, Tom Walker was that character. He

The devil proposed to him a deal, Tom may have the treasure buried at an old Indian fort, which
will bring him all the money he desired, for only his soul and must become a usurer for the devil.
At first, Tom did not take the deal. Howver, when he got home that day he spoke to his wife about

The choice he made was to sell his soul and start a business for the devil if he was rewarded
treasure that had been buried. The want to be rich is what provoked Tom to settle this deal. In
doing so, he cost many people all of their money. Tom conned people and left them in despair,
and he sold his soul so he can be a rich and mighty man. He had been fooled by the evil of money.
Therefore, he will pay for his choices and the actions he committed. Towards the end of this
story, Tom begins fearing for his life, afraid that the devil was going to collect his soul at any
moment. He aimed to become religious, in hopes that will prevent the devil from coming.
However, he did not succeed and was taken away by the devil. The theme Washington Irving was
conveying is that money is not worth your life. You can be happy and poor, and rich and
miserable. If Tom Walker understood that, he would have led a life without the devil on his
shoulder and without the fear of the devil coming to collect

operating systems UNIX and LINUX, two very interesting and powerful systems. The first is often
labeled as too confusing and unfriendly, the later is relatively unknown to the novice user, but
surprisingly they are very similar in design. A short history of the two operating systems may
explain why they are so similar.
UNIX is a creation out of Bell Labs in the 1960 s, in a project headed by Stephen Bourne. The
idea was to create an operating system whose kernel (core part) was as tiny as possible. The
main driving force, the small UNIX kernel, was that the developers were doing their work on
what were considered in that day to be tiny computers. The severe limitation on RAM resulted in
a small kernel with all the utilities implemented as separate, stand alone programs. Each was itself
tiny, and designed to accept input from the preceding program as well as provide output to
succeeding programs. This process of using output from one program as input into another is
referred to as piping and is central to UNIX operating systems today (UNIX amp; LINUX
Answers! Certified Tech Support 1998).
LINUX is a creation of Linus

narrative has been depicted through the two components which are mise en scene, cinematography
and sound. This will be done by analyzing every scene, followed by analyzing each element of the
film aesthetic.
The feature expressing style of Wong Kar Wai is indirection. Wong Kar Wai expresses indirect
character s emotion and thoughts. The main character of In the mood for love is Tony Leung, who

Persuasive Essay On Ticks
Introduction
Ticks are insects that draw blood for food. Most ticks live in shrubs and grassy areas. They climb
onto people and animals that brush against the leaves and grasses they rest on. Then they bite,
attaching themselves to the skin.
Most ticks are harmless, but some carry germs that can spread to a person through a bite and
cause disease. To reduce your risk of getting a disease from a tick bite, it is important to take steps
to prevent tick bites. It is also important to check for ticks after being outdoors and, if you find one,
to watch for symptoms of disease.
How can I prevent tick bites?
Take these steps to help prevent tick bites when you are outdoors in an area where ticks are found:

To remove a tick that is crawling on your skin but has not bitten, go outdoors and brush the tick off.
To remove a tick that is attached to your skin:
Wash your hands.
If you have latex gloves, put them on.
Using tweezers, curved forceps, or a tick removal tool to gently grasp the tick as close to your skin
and the tick s head as possible.
Gently pull with steady, upward pressure until the tick lets go. When removing the tick:
Take care to keep the tick s head attached to its body.
Do not twist or jerk the tick. This can make the tick s head or mouth break off.
Do not squeeze or crush the tick s body. This could force disease carrying fluids from the tick into
your body.
Do not try to remove a tick with heat, alcohol, petroleum jelly, or fingernail polish. Using these
methods can cause the tick to salivate and regurgitate into your bloodstream, increasing your risk of
getting a disease.
What should I do after removing a tick?
Clean wash the bite area with soap and water, rubbing alcohol, or an iodine scrub.
If an antiseptic cream or ointment is available, apply a small amount to the bite site.
Wash and disinfect any instruments you used to remove the tick.
How should I dispose of a tick?
To dispose of a live tick, use one of these methods:
Place the tick in rubbing alcohol.
Place in sealed bag or container.
Wrap it tightly in tape.
Flush it down the toilet.
Contact a health care provider if:
You are not able to remove a tick.

Challenges facing female head teacher s phenomenological study in the Effia Tanokrom Circuit of
the Secondi Takoradi Metropolis in the Western Region of Ghana
Women just as their male counterparts, have a right to actively participate in leadership in any
facets of the society. In fact, they are permeating every domain of activities with assertiveness and
proven competence, and making in roads into hitherto male monopoly of executive management
roles in organizations especially in the developed countries. This study will seek to gain an insight
into the leadership styles adopted by female head teachers of basic school in the Effia Tanokrom
Circuit of the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis in the Western Region of Ghana. It will also investigate
the challenges they face in their line of duty, and how these challenges could be surmounted to
enhance their performance. The Ghana Education service and other teacher association.
Significance of the study will lie in its capacity to contribute to the debate on female leadership,
particularly in our country. It is hoped that the results of the study when disseminated through

they should anticipate and the various strategies they can employ to surmount the situation. It is
hoped that this will encourage female head teachers who have similar challenges to develop similar
strategies to help them. It will also serve an additional

Short Story Of The Pokemon Center Waiting Room
The only sounds progressing through the Pokemon Center waiting room were the soft whispers
of nurses and the sharp beeping of machines from other rooms down the long white hallway.
There was only one person in the waiting room. A girl, no older than sixteen, looking bruised and
worn. Yet she was sitting up straight, remarkably rigid in her chair with this unreadable
expression on her face. Perhaps the only thing that indicated that she was worried, were her hands
clutching the muddy hat in her lap until her hands were a strained white. The nurses quietly spoke
of how they had seen her before, way back when she visited Clanwood City for medicine for the
poor lighthouse pokemon; she hadn t even stopped to battle the gym leader, even if fly would

What Is The Current State Of Music Education Across...
This philosophy essay will focus on the current state of music education within secondary schools
across Australia, choosing to address the particular issue of student access to appropriate levels of
information, communication and technology interfaces (ICT s) within the classroom, and the
supporting role they play in music education. Secondary students do not always have equal
opportunities and miss out on music participation due to conditions surrounding music provision
e.g. due to a crowded curriculum (too many cross curricular activities and subjects), the impact of
other subjects, lack of confidence among music teachers and shortage of resources (Hoegh
Guldberg, 2013). This essay explores how the current lack of availability and use of ICT s for
music education purposes, as well as the general lack of music technology resources and facilities
can have a detrimental effect on student learning, or lack there of. If students do not have access to
the level of technology and support that they need to adhere to certain technological requirements
in the Australian Curriculum, then they are deprived of the full benefit of teaching and learning in
a modern technological era.
Recently in Australia, both the National Review of the School of Music Education and The
Australian Curriculum have identified the importance of technology in school music education
(Southcott Crawford, 2011). Along with this, independent surveys provide an accurate glimpse at
the status of

Are Dogs Better Than Dogs Essay
How Dogs Beat Cats At Being The Better Companion
Many people fight over whether dogs or cats are better. If people have been fighting over this
topic for centuries, there should be a clear winner. Some people believe that cats are better than
dogs, but that isn t true. Since dogs can do more things for people than cats, they should be
crowned the winner of the age long argument. Dogs can help out disabled people, save lives, help
people live longer, and give purpose to someone life.
It s pretty nice to have to have your dog help you out. Dogs can be trained easier, so you have to do

get home and greet you (27 Indisputable Reasons Why Dogs Are Better Than Cats 2). The
doggo will also wait by the door and will sit and wait for you when you tell them to stay
somewhere. There are some incredible stories about dogs waiting for their owners, with some of
the owners not ever coming back. They will also make certain faces with how you interact with
them and with what they do. Back to that I m sorry face. It is a special face certain dogs do
when they are naughty but don t want you to get mad. It s because dogs like people s affection
and hate being lectured at. Your pup also has that adorable Why face when you put any piece of
clothing on them. This usually happens when a small child wants to play dress up with a dog,
not knowing any better. Some dogs, mostly dogs that need a lot of affection will also try to help
you heal when you are injured or sick. They will lick their owner and lay with hopes of getting
you to feel better so the owner can throw a tennis ball again (27 Indisputable Reasons Why Dogs

Torvald from Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House and Madame Ranevsky from Anton Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard are left to start afresh at the end of the plays after they neglected a key element in their lives. Torvald toys with Nora, his wife, fulfilling only his wants and only his needs and abases her; never considering her his equal. The fallacious choice Madame Ranevsky makes concerning her home and family leads them to destitution and separation. Themes In Inheritance Of Loss Inheritance of loss, is a moving novel by Indian writer Kiran Desai, whereby we see the effect of colonialism and post colonialism and the consequence that comes with it. Many critical themes are explored, Leach lists them as colonialism, a revolution, multi ethnic nationhood and illegal immigration in the US, where political allegiance impacts on love affairs, and where the reality of life in a grubby New York basement reshapes the American Dream (2007). Desai mentions many of these historical events in her novel that give us and insight view as to what was happening in the inside, within the people of India, as opposed to only seeing the surface and elections going on. • 8. Margolin Vs Novelty Now Case Study Milestone 1 Julia Cummings BUS 206 September 24, 2017 In the case of Margolin v. Novelty Now the appropriate court for this lawsuit depends upon several factors. In personal jurisdiction the book states that the courts are given the power to provide a decision in affecting the rights of individuals (Kubasek). In this case, the court will give a decision giving rights to Mr. Margolin, and taking rights from Novelty Now. For subject matter jurisdiction, a certain specified court will be able to hear the case This means, that it must be decided which court hears the case, whether state or federal jurisdiction. Since this case contains three different states, the federal court system must be the one to hear the case. In this case, minimum contacts must be determined to decide if a certain state will have power to assert personal jurisdiction over a defendant from another state (Kubasek). In this case, it must be decided if New York will take personal jurisdiction of the defendants residing in California, or Novelty Now residing in Florida. Alternative dispute resolution may be an option to resolve this case. ADR is a method of resolving cases through methods other than court. These can be negotiation, mediation, arbitration, mini trials, private trials, etc. (Kubasek). In this case, negotiation outside of trial would be a good option for Funny Face. ADR is often cheaper than a traditional trial as well. This way they would not have to face bad publicity for this incident. This might also be a good idea for Mr. Margolin because the case will go much faster, meaning he could get restitution much faster, and would cut his legal costs as well. Language on the Funny Face website appears to limit any claim filed to arbitration as a means of resolving the dispute. Arbitration is a method of resolution to a case by choosing a neutral third party outside a judicial setting (Kubasek). Arbitration would be a good solution for both Mr. Margolin and Funny Face in this case. Mr. Margolin would be able to explain his condition and provide medical evidence stating that Funny Face was indeed the cause of his condition. However, a neutral third party may believe that there was enough stated by Funny Face for Mr. Margolin to have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Money Can t Buy Happiness A 2010 study conducted by Princeton University s Center For Health and Well Being threatens to discredit the age old adage that money can t buy happiness because, as it turns out, money can buy happiness...at least to an extent. The study isolated a so called happiness benchmark for annual income, at or above which research subjects reported higher levels of overall life satisfaction. A possible ramification of the study is that because certain groups of people have more difficulty finding and maintaining job positions that provide an adequate salary, they are much more likely to experience lower overall life satisfaction, and by extension happiness, purely as a result of their heritage or upbringing. Although a substantial income alone cannot make you happier on a day to day basis, those able to attain an annual income of $75,000+ are generally more satisfied with their lives altogether. The Price of Happiness: $75,000? The Wall Street Journal observed that in the Princeton study, the participants life satisfaction was directly linked to their income and how they measured their life in comparison to others, but when participants evaluated their inner life, their income had far less of an impact on their perceived happiness (Frank). • 12. Taking a Look at the Management Process An organizations goals and objectives can be accomplished through leadership. Leadership refers to inspire people to contribute and perform well in the management. It is a role of management and leading others towards the achievement of the common goals (Channappa, 2012). Daft (2012) reported that In today s world, industries, technologies, economies, governments, and societies are in constant flux, and managers are responsible for helping their organizations navigate through the unpredictable with flexibility and innovation (p. 4). A good manager is needed in every management because he or she is the one who determine the successes and future of the management (Daft, 2012). He or she is also the one to persevere unremittingly in facing the failure. As elaborated by Griffin Ebert (1996), there are four vital steps in the management process which are planning, organizing, leading and controlling (refer to Figure 1 in Appendix 1). The first step in the management process is planning. The process starts with managers setting the objectives and identifying the goals to ensure that mission is achieved (Daft, 2012). Firstly, an overall plan is developed by managers to ensure that the management runs smoothly and effectively in long term (Daft, 2012). The future of an organization to be heading and how to achieve them is determined by the manager (Daft, 2012). The second step in the planning is the managers analyze the risks facing their organization in terms of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I feel actors, of all people, should know how important getting into and staying in character is, not only for their performance but the performance of their peers. This also helps the audience suspending their belief and see that actor as the fictitious person they want us to see. Once that is established it shouldn t be broken due to some unnecessary hand gesture to an audience member. As with all plays I ve attended, the play starts with the director requesting the audience not to get up during the performance and requested everyone silence their cell phones to avoid distracting the actors. I wish I could have asked them to stay in character throughout the play because it distracted me as the audience. I could go on and on about little things that bothered me. For example, the contract Wonka has the kids sign was hanging in a scroll on the wall; crooked it sat because the chains on the side were different lengths. There are numerous reasons that could explain the above situation. The education system of the United States is more developed as there are good policies that govern the education sector. Silkenat The original Constitution of the American Bar Association defined the purpose of the ABA as being for the advancement of the science of jurisprudence, the promotion of the administration of justice and a uniformity of legislation throughout the country.... While this Constitution still considerably shapes the focus of the ABA, today s legal profession is very different from what it was when the ABA was first formed 137 years ago in Saratoga Springs, New York. When 75 lawyers from 20 states and the District of Columbia met to establish the American Bar Association on August 21, 1878, there was no national code of ethics. Most lawyers practiced solo. There were no universal standards for law schools, since most lawyers did not have law degrees and attending law school at that time was rare. Young lawyers learned their craft through apprenticeships and by reading classic legal texts. Improving diversity within the profession was almost certainly not a topic of conversation. Today, the ABA is as committed as ever to improving the justice system and the law. It works to serve its members, the legal profession, and the public by defending liberty and pursuing justice as the national voice of the legal profession. The ABA achieves its mission through four goals, as evidenced on the organization s website: Goal I: Serve Our Members. • 25. Segmented Polyurethanes Can Be Represented By Three Basic... Segmented polyurethanes can be represented by three basic components in the following general form: P (D(CD)n P)n Where P is the polyol, D is the diisocyanate and C is the chain extender. Polyol, or the so called soft segment, is an oligomeric macromonomer comprising a soft flexible chain terminated by hydroxyl ( OH) groups. The chain extender is usually a small molecule with either hydroxyl, or amine end groups. The diisocyanate is a low molecular weight compound that can react with either the polyol or chain extender, leading to the interesting segmented structure. In linear polyurethanes, the three components have a functionality of two. If a branched or crosslinked material is desired, multifunctional polyols, isocyanates, and sometimes chain extenders can be incorporated into the formulation. Due to the statistical nature of the copolymerization, polyurethanes have both a distribution in total molecular weight and adistribution in the hard segment sequence length, those copolymer sequences denoted as D(CD)n, that follow essentially a most probable distribution. The principle chemical reaction involved in the synthesis of polyurethanes is the urethane forming reaction, i.e., the reaction between isocyanate and hydroxyl groups. Because this is a nucleophilic addition reaction, it is catalyzed by basic compounds such as tertiary amines and by metal compounds such as organotin. Urethane formation is actually an equilibrium reaction; the presence of catalyst therefore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Symptoms And Treatment Of Huntington s Disease Huntington s Disease Huntington s disease is an inherited neurodegenerative disease that is caused by a mutation on the HTT gene. It typically effects persons in their third to fifth decade of life and can be passed onto their children. Neurons in the brain waste away or degenerate in different areas causing the characterizing symptoms, such as dance like movements and mental decline. Diagnosis and prognosis can be devastating to both individual and family. However, there are genetic tests that can help to predict the probability of developing symptoms of the disease. There is no cure for this debilitating disease; only symptom control and maximization of comfort can be prescribed until future research finds a cure. This paper will review origins and symptoms, in addition to treatments and future treatments. Origins GeneticsThe gene HTT is located on the short arm of chromosome 4 and is present in everyone; however, it is the mutation of that gene that causes Huntington s disease. The mutation presents as an error in the CAG repeat equal to additional repeats more than is normal. Normal genotypes have less than 36 CAG repeats, anything above 36 results in an unstable gene (Scott, 2011). If a person has 36 to 39 repeats, he or she is genetically considered to have Huntington s, but may not develop the symptoms of Huntington s; however, his or her offspring will definitely have a great probability of developing symptoms (Scott, 2011). The Standard Economic Theory ( Robbins ) Traditionally, standard economic theory (Robbins 1930) dictates that time use is allocated between labor and leisure; however, Kimmel and Connelly point out this model simply does not hold true for mothers. Kimmel and Connelly posit that mothers presumably face another category of household work, separated into caregiving time and household production. Kimmel and Connelly modify this economic model to expand the time use choices of mothers to include five various categories: labor (paid market work), leisure, home production, caregiving time (parental childcare), and other (sleeping, education, etc. which will be ignored from here on out since personal care time is too diverse to calculate). Hoffman examines the effect of children and marriage on women s labor force participation between the years of 1984 and 2004 using data from the Current Population Survey (CPS). The data is valuable since it looks at the same years as recent work by Boushey of the Center for Economic and Policy Research, which suggested that the negative impact of children on mothers labor force participation has actually declined. Moreover, the sample sizes analyzed by Hoffman are large varying between 56,000 and 70,000 women 25 44 years old. Using a regression analysis, Hoffman s various models allow for the interaction of marriage with children with the year to be taken into account. Hoffman is thus able to compare the labor force participation of single women with children to single women without children . . . and married women with children to married women without children (p. 8). Ultimately a fair and effective punishment must not only prevent future transgressions, but also teach a valuable life lesson. While some punishments may seem standard: a grounding for breaking curfew, a detention for misbehaving in class, a jail sentence for robbery, not all punishments are so cut and dry. Take the case of Casey Heynes. A video which has since gone viral depicts the March 2011 incident. Ritchard Gale, 12, appears to tease and taunt Casey, 15, and unleash a few unretaliated punches. In response, Casey picks Ritchard up, and slams him to the ground. While Ritchard was relatively physically unscathed in the encounter, Casey could have inflicted quite serious damage. It was revealed through family and witness interviews that Casey was indeed provoked, and had suffered bullying at the hands of classmates for years. Regardless, school and societal rules were broken, and consequences must follow. What then, is a fair punishment? Casey Heynes should receive a four day at home suspension. In addition, he should participate in a bullying prevention group at his school and attend a one day anger management course. This represents a fair punishment, as it acts as a reasonable deterrent, allows Casey to demonstrate remorse, and is reflective of both Casey and Ritchard s feelings. The idea was to create an operating system whose kernel (core part) was as tiny as possible. The main driving force, the small UNIX kernel, was that the developers were doing their work on what were considered in that day to be tiny computers. The severe limitation on RAM resulted in a small kernel with all the utilities implemented as separate, stand alone programs. Each was itself tiny, and designed to accept input from the preceding program as well as provide output to succeeding programs.
