2. Constitution Vs Constitution
Aurora Manning

The Constitution
The American Constitution serve and protect American citizens. The Articles of Confederation were
the first step of writing the constitution. The Articles of Confederation were an agreement between the
original colonies. It bound the thirteen original states together in a firm league of friendship from 1781
until the U.S. Constitution was implemented in 1789 (Siemers, David J. Articles of Confederation ).
Although the The Articles are not in effect, they are in parts of the constitution. Nevertheless, the
determinations of the courts convened under the Articles were considered valid even after the
Constitution was adopted. Several of the Constitution s clauses were adapted ... Show more content on

The Constitutional Convention was scheduled to begin on May 14, 1787, but only delegations from
Virginia and Pennsylvania were present on that date. By May 25, however, twenty nine delegates from
seven states a majority had arrived, and the most famous convention in United States history got under
way (Tullai, Martin D. The Constitutional Convention ). Not everyone one attended the convention.
Of the seventy four delegates chosen to attend, fifty five came. (The full complement of fifty five was
not reached until August 6, when John Francis Mercer of Massachusetts arrived.) The average daily
attendance was thirty. On opening day, twenty nine people were present. Thirty nine would ultimately
sign. More accurately, thirty nine names appear on the document (Tullai, Martin D. The Constitutional
Convention ). Some of the famous people who attended the Convention were Benjamin Franklin,
James Madison, George Washington and Alexander Hamilton.
The farmers hand some key points that they made sure they were in the Constitution. Most important,
the framers thought they were creating a government with specific, limited powers. It could do only
what the Constitution allowed it to do, and nowhere in that document was there permission to infringe
upon freedom of speech or the press, or to impose cruel and unusual punishments.

3. The Dilemmas Of Public Education And Public School...
The greatly discussed dilemma of having a child be taught in a public school setting versus a
homeschool setting has been evaluated by parents since the idea was first introduced in the 1970 s.
Public schooling had been the standard method of teaching since it is a requirement for states to
provide public, free education for children in grades K 12. However, the backlash against the system
began when two educational theorists and supporters of school reform, John Holt and Raymond
Moore, started to question both the techniques and the products of public schools. Some parents went
on to support the ideas of them and began to teach their children in the environment of their own
homes for several different reasons. Some included moral or religious reasons, a desire for high
educational achievement, dissatisfaction with public schools instructional program, or concerns about
drugs and peer pressure in a public school environment. Child development specialists believe that
homeschooled children are isolated from the outside world, therefore making them socially
handicapped. If being exposed to this type of education on an elementary school level, the child can
suffer from the lack of fundamental development of effective social skills needed for a lifetime ahead
of them.
It is believed that by restricting children from the real world and its many problems through home
schooling, they may never get the chance to learn both life lessons and social interaction skills on their
own

Chapter 9 of Environmental Science by William and Mary Ann Cunningham begins with discussing
the excess amount of food there was but despite that people are still hungry, there is a scarcity of
resources like food. This chapter also discusses about 870 million people that do not have enough
resources and this is causing them to be hungry and have a lot of diseases. Skloot s chapter Linux for
Lettuce by Lisa Hamilton discusses the difficulties for seeds to be available to the people because of
the patents they have on them. Seed companies patents their plant so that other breeders cannot grow
plants that resembles theirs. This really have an impact on plant breeders because they can be sued if

5. Ryan s Gross Sensorimotor Development
Ryan exhibits primitive postural and movement strategies through the use of the tonic labyrinthine
reflex in both prone and supine position. He also displays an ATNR reflex when he turns his head to
the left; if this persists it can inhibit the development of his hand eye coordination along with grasp
and reaching difficulties. Since Ryan s head control is beginning to be voluntary and muscles
necessary for neck control are being activated. This could be considered late primitive stage moving
into the early transitional stage. The development of Ryan s neck control can help his postural control.
Ryan displays weight bearing through his leg when positioned into the standing position. This occurs
based on his positive standing reflex, not the activation of lower extremity muscles. Even though Ryan
s strategies for purposeful movements are based on reflexes, this will make it difficult for him to do
activities as a typically developing child that does not rely on reflexive movement.

CRJ 102: Intro to Policing

The Watts Riots The Watts Riots erupted on the backdrop of simmering racial tensions in the United

surrounding areas, but the immediate cause of the riot was routine police work police responding to a

The Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles, was predominantly black and racial tension had reached a

The Kerner Commission issued its landmark report in 1968, concluding: Our nation is moving toward

7. Recurring Scaffold In The Scarlet Letter
The Recurring Scaffold Through day and night, the scaffold is a place of punishment, awaiting its next
victim. People pass by wondering who the next victim is going to be. This public punishment causes
many to change and work to preserve their reputation. Despite this, the scaffold turns into a constant
place of punishment, in The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hester s love for Dimmesdale and
Dimmesdale s cowardice hold significant meanings in the novel, which lead up to Dimmesdale
gaining a more mature mindset. Specifically, Hester s punishment portrays her love for Dimmesdale in
the first scaffold scene. Hester refuses to reveal the name of the father in spite of everyone asking her.
Dimmesdale tells Hester to reveal the name by saying, Be not silent from any mistaken pity and
tenderness for him; for, believe me, Hester, though he were to step down from a high place, and stand
there beside thee, on thy pedestal of shame, yet better were it so, than to hide a guilty heart through
life, (63) to explain that it is better for Hester to reveal the name of the father than to keep it to herself.
By telling her not to remain silent due to any pity and tenderness for him , and telling her to allow him
to step down from a high place and stand there beside her, it shows that Dimmesdale wants her to ...

then gathers the courage to confess. The scaffold is not just a public punishment, but it is also a place

Everywhere you turn society is being presented with images of perfection, beauty, or sexuality. Some
of these images represent unrealistic or unreachable expectations and can be truly harmful. It is
common to see women exploited in reality TV shows and music videos. Young women are also
influenced by the images that they see in commercials, billboards, internet sites, and movies. These
images serve to harm a woman s self confidence and also are affecting their overall health. Today s

model and learn from the behaviors of attractive individuals. Women want to emulate the body images
of the thin attractive models through dieting. Eventually, negative effects result from this such as

magazines and photos, to movies and television shows. Ten studies were measured by exposure from
fitness and fashion magazines. Seventeen studies were examined using a photo measure. Typically, the
photo measure consisted of advertisements with thin woman. Three studies used a general mass media
measure, which measured general media use. One study included a movie measure and another
included a computer measure. The analysis implies that there is a relationship between body image
and media, but the relationship is minute. The article says that one reason why some woman may not
compare themselves to the thin woman in the images is because they are constantly exposed. Finally,
the article concludes by stating that a manipulation of exposure length, outcome measures, and

9. Hershey s Way Of Making Chocolate
Chocolate is one of the most popular products consumed in the United States and all around the world.
Hershey Chocolate Company originated in 1894, by Milton Hershey (Hershey Company, 2015). He
was the first American who began producing milk chocolate bars, and eventually created multiple
flavors that changed the chocolate industry forever. With such mass production and success, Hershey
was able to make milk chocolate, a once luxury item for the wealthy, into an affordable treat for all
(Hershey Company, 2015). Hershey s way of making chocolate is one of a kind. Hershey starts the
chocolate making process by importing cocoa beans from cacao trees found in tropical regions near
the equator. Cacao is ultimately the key ingredient in chocolate. The seeds from the cacao trees are
then harvested and fermented, where they begin to darken and receive their rich cocoa flavor. The
cocoa beans are then sent to the Pennsylvania in the United States, where they are cleaned, sorted and
sent to the roasters. Roasting the cocoa beans at 400 500 degrees brings out the flavor of the cocoa
beans and also dries them out to retrieve the nib. The nib is the most important part because it is the
part that actually makes the chocolate. The nibs are then milled to create chocolate liquor. Chocolate
liquor contains a lot of cocoa butter and will be squeezed out in liquor presses to create cocoa powder.
Additionally, Hershey s chocolate would not be the same without their use of fresh,

12. Alzheimer s Disease ( Ad ) Essay
Alzheimer disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia in the elderly, accounting for 65 70%
of all cases (Jellinger, Janetzky, Attems, Kienzl, 2008). The other dementias are of the Parkinson s
group, the fronto temporal group and the vascular group. The total worldwide yearly costs for the
treatment and care of patients suffering from dementia are estimated to be around 250 billion US
dollars. The lifetime risk for AD between the ages of 65 and 100 is 33% for men and 45% for women
with an annual increase of 1 2% in the seventh decade to almost 60% in the 10th decade with doubling
every 5 years (Jellinger et al., 2008). AD is incurable, and thus represents a major public health
problem. AD represents a challenge to humanity due to its relatively recent discovery, progressive
nature of the illness, and complex diagnosis. Alzheimer s disease (AD) was discovered by a German
doctor Alois Alzheimer in 1906 when he found amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in the
autopsy of a woman who died of an unknown mental disease. The extracellular amyloid plaque
deposits, composed of insoluble amyloid Beta peptide were hypothesized to be the main etiological
factor. The most important abnormality is an excess of Amyloid beta peptides brought about through
either overproduction or failure in degradation. (Uzun, Kozumplik, Folnegovi膰 Smalc, 2011) Later, it
was discovered that intracellular neurofibrillary tangles composed of hyper phosphorylated, helically

14. Analysis Of Mutability By Percy Bysshe Shelley Essay
Portfolio Part B Mutability (Greenblatt 752 753) is a poem written by the Romantic poet Percy Bysshe
Shelley in 1816. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word Mutability as: Liability or tendency
to change. (OED Online) Mutability was most probably written in order to portray Shelley s own
views that humans do not have control over changes which occur in their own lives. However, it
asserts Shelley s belief that, Nought may endure but Mutability. Shelley demonstrates this idea by
using various literary devices, diction, and a sombre tone which is reflected through his choice of
writing in the lyric form. Mutability was written at a time when Shelley experienced significant life
changing events; January 1816 saw the birth of his first child to Mary Shelley, in the same year
Shelley experienced financial struggles, and the suicide of his first wife Harriet in December 1816. (O
Neill, M.) In addition to the changes he endured in his personal life, Shelley was very much aware of
the changes happening during 1816 which was named, The year without a summer due to extreme
changes in weather. During his trip to Switzerland, Shelley and a group of other Romantic poets began
to create works to reflect this time of great change. (Gardiner, Lisa) This is significant as being
exposed to so much change during 1816 more than likely inspired Shelley to write Mutability to
demonstrate the human ability to accept and embrace change, as it cannot be prevented.

HMO Book Report Poster: The Patient Will See You Now
Summary:
The book, The Patient Will See You Now, by Eric Topol, withholds an extreme amount of educational
value and discusses how the vast world of medicine can combine with the ever expanding world of
technology to make things such as medical information, diagnoses, treatments, and even prescriptions
at our fingertips. This book takes the point of view from Dr. Eric Topol, a cardiologist who is trying to
better the world of medicine while increasing the convenience of it at the same time. The goal that Dr.
Topol is trying to establish is that in this day and age, there is absolutely no need for one to have to
wait so long to see a doctor. In fact, why should the general population have to wait what feels like
hours in a waiting room, or even days for an appointment to be made when everything can be
presented right in front of us? Medicine is advancing at such a fast rate that now scientists and doctors
can find cures to diseases in a matter of months, or sometimes even days after they are discovered.
Since we have such high advances in the fields of science and medicine, people all over the world
(more than just doctors and nurses) should have access to know what these diseases do and how to
cure them the second that they are discovered. This concept seems something that would be nearly
impossible to achieve, but thanks to breakthroughs in new technology and silicon, this dream can
surely turn into a reality.

At the age of eight, it was finally time for little Timmy to experience the magical world of Disney
World. His parents had spent the past two years, saving up just enough money for a three night stay at
one of the resorts in Orlando. Saving the money was no easy task, as they had to often make some
tough choices on where to spend less in their daily routine. They would save with little things such as
eating in rather than spending an extraordinary amount of amount money on fancy restaurants. They
believed the resulting trip to Disney world would pay off and make up for the lousy home cooked
meals. Of course, while booking the trip, they knew that time would be scarce and a solid plan on how
to get the most out of a three night trip was crucial. They decided that since most of their time would
be spent outside and within the amusement parks, a cheap hotel would suffice and more money could
be spent on an all park pass along with extra fast passes to skip the long lines. They also decided it
was worth buying a plane ticket rather than make the long drive up to Florida from Boston. They
knew the experience of flying in a plane would be well worth the extra $500 they could be saving
otherwise. The father, Jim, used his experience as a long time traveling salesman to book the perfect
flight plan for his family. He recognized that the flights later in the day would allow them to avoid

20. The Importance Of Humanitarian Intervention
The international community has a responsibility to protect citizens against the gross human rights
abuses of their states. This statement leads into the discussion of the two main doctrines that relate to
human rights violations, the first being humanitarian intervention which has existed for many
centuries, and places emphasis on the powers of state having the duty to protect its citizens, and if this
is ignored, the international community has rights to step in. Despite the fact that, in theory, this
intervention doctrine has many flaws starting with the failures seen in crisis areas such as Somalia,
Bosnia and Kosovo and the debate on whether it compromises a state s sovereignty. These faults led to
the creation of the newer Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine, which, in its own capacity, has
many faults and failures, but has seen some small victories in region such as Libya and Syria in recent
years. Humanitarian intervention is by no means a new idea, it has in fact been dated back to as early
the 1600 s, when Hugo Grotius promoted the idea that a ruler should be rightly dealt with if they were
found to have inflicted inhumane treatment upon their subjects (Haslett, 2014). It is described as the
coercive action, using armed forces, by a state, in another state without the permission of it authorities,
in order to prevent and stop the suffering of the citizens in that state. It can easily be confused with
peacekeeping missions, but there are two

In Willa Cather s short story Paul s Case , the main character, Paul, is clearly unhappy with his own
life as well as his home life. Paul lost his mother and has an unstable relationship with his father. He
dreads going home, as Cather explains: ...the hopeless feeling of sinking back forever into ugliness
and commonness that he had always had when he came home (Cather 108). This quote expresses the
hatred and disgust that Paul has towards his home and he will do anything to avoid coming home. This
book is very relatable and realistic because similar to Paul, many teenagers dislike their home life and
would much rather be away from their own family. Distancing yourself from loved ones, family,
friends, teachers, coaches, or whoever it may be, can be an early sign of depression (Suicide in
Children and Teens 1). Paul may or may not suffer from depression, but either way, his death could
have easily been prevented if Paul had a more positive outlook on life.
While homelife has an enormous impact on someone s emotions, life outside of home may be even
more important. According to Suicide in Children and teens, rebellious behavior such as constant
lying may be a sign of suicidal person. When questioned by the Principal as to why he was there, Paul
stated, politely enough, that he wanted to come back to school. This was a lie, but Paul was quite
accustomed to lying; found it, indeed, indispensable for

24. Persuasive Essay On Gender Neutral Rooming
As Gloria Steinem once said, A gender equal society would be one where the word gender does not
exist: where everyone can be themselves . Recently, Lehigh has been implemented something new to
better embrace the meaning of gender inclusion. The newest residence hall building, Farrington
Square Apartment, is now available for all gender rooming, which means girls and boys can live
together in one room. Residence Life, Residential Service, and the Pride Center believe, This is an
active effort to align Lehigh s living options with the Principles of Our Equitable Community . Even
though to some extent, it is hard for people, who traditionally lived in dormitories divided into male
and female, to become accustomed to the gender inclusive rooming, this decision is a huge progress
Lehigh made in giving students a sense of belonging and allowing them to experience more diverse
living styles. It stands to reason that gender neutral rooming is definitely beneficial to give students a
sense of inclusion, especially for transgender and gender non conforming students. Ashley Lemmons,
the director of Residence Life, wrote in an email that : Students at Lehigh should feel a sense of
belonging to Lehigh and should also find micro community within Lehigh where they feel at home.
Providing students with all gender housing options enables them to feel Lehigh cares about their
feelings and emotions indeed. It is a well established fact that if you feel unsure about yourself to be a

25. Positive Benefits Of Homeschooling
In the modern world that we live in today, education is considered paramount. Although in the United
States our education level is not nearly at the rank wed like, we still place a great emphasis on
programs to shape the youth of tomorrow. There is, however, one organization for education that is not
fueled by government spending homeschool. Homeschooling is a practice that is looked upon from the
outside as alien simply for being different, and the stereotypical view that many hold of it is false. In
fact, because of a lack of bad influences, the addition positive social effects, and outstanding academic
performance, the case can be made that homeschooling is more beneficial than public schooling to
students. The way that every child is started in homeschooling at a young age is because of their
parents. In a survey of why parents decide to enter their children into homeschooling, 85.4 responded
that it is because of a concern about the environment of other schools (Dumas 8). Things like drugs
and alcohol are all accessible easily in public school from various vendors trying to get children
hooked at young ages. By taking out the medium through which they transport their product, parents
are removing their children from harms way. Another bad influence to children in public school is
conformity. Noteworthy researcher Tanya Dumas writes that one of the primary benefits of
homeschooling is the ability to tailor the education to the needs of each student and to work one on

26. The Populist and Progressive Movements Essay
The Populist and Progressive Movements
The Populists and Progressive were form of movement that occurred during the outbreaks of the
workers union after the civil war. The populists began during the late 1800s.The progressive began
during the 1900s. There are many differences between these two movements, but yet these movements
have many things that are similar. Farmers united to protect their interests, even creating a major
political party. The party was called the peoples party which became known as the populist party.
Populists drew its strength from rural areas. Populists tended to be poor and uneducated. They had
ideas such as government ownership of major industries. The Populists supported labors demand for

The attempt to unite urban workers and farmers into a mass movement for economic reform had
failed. Progressivism began in the early 1900s. It had roots in several earlier movements such as the
Liberal Republican and the Mugwumps. Progressivism centered in cities. Progressives were middle
class and well educated. Progressives stayed in the political mainstream. They aimed not to remake
American society, but to merely make the existing system work better and to do this they were willing
to make compromises. Progressivism offered the middle class, business leader, and farmers a safe
reform. By 1900 the American economy was strong. As a result people of all classes felt more
confident and more willing to compromise. Progressives made city and state governments more
democratic. They also tightened regulations on business. For Progressives, honest and efficient
government was an important goal, but not the ultimate one. They saw government as a tool to be
used to promote the welfare of all citizens. Regulating business was, for both city and state
governments, a major part of that task. Progressives passed more laws aiming at protecting various
groups, especially children. The Populist and Progressives had many similarities. What the Populist
fought for the Progressives continued on fighting. They fought for many similar things for example,
they fought for the eight hour work day. The Populist and Progressives were for the people. They
wanted to improve their

28. Analysis Of Strange Memes, By Sherry Turkle
Humans have mastered the skill of copying others. Mostly everyone follows what they were shown;
they copy whatever they were taught. This is the idea of memes being passed down. Susan Blackmore
describes how memes have taken over our lives. She talks in her article, Strange Creatures, what
memes are and how the theory of selfish meme theory is being shown throughout living creatures.
Meme is the idea of imitating someone else s thoughts. Selfish is implied as thoughts being passed
down and trying to dominate other thoughts. Memes spread randomly and humans continue to use
those same thoughts. Mostly no one believes in creating their own thoughts. She describes how the
thought of copying has been passed down and the idea that occurs is spread throughout everyone.
Sherry Turkle specifically talks about the use of technology in her article, Alone Together . Everyone
uses technology whether it is good for them or not. Turkle describes how everyone has become
desperate to their gadgets. She talks more about people becoming dependent and how people want
technology. Blackmore s theory applies to Turkle s examples of the use of technology. The idea that
the use of technology is a meme. Everyone believes the use of technology is necessary for daily lives
since it has become normal to them. Therefore, the use of meme theory is being shown in society s
daily lives; this makes the outcome of the use of meme theory scary since everyone is copying others

29. Impact Of Technology On Business Techniques
1. Introduction The analyzation of data or the observation of information has never been an
uncommon occurrence; these analyses have grown exponentially since the rise of technology in the
21st century. The results produced through big data analysis have the potential to be paradigm
altering; the implications run much deeper than simply connecting x to y. Although its foundations
have been interwoven into society, big data has only recently become a commonly known term. Still,
very few are well versed in the subject. What exactly is big data? Danah Boyd and Kate Crawford put
it in the simplest terms when they define it as, very large data sets and the tools and procedures used to
manipulate and analyze them (Boyd and Crawford). This manipulation is vital to many large
corporations as they attempt to harness the data in order to personalize the consumer experience in
their business techniques. Since its inception, big data has warranted a moral investigation: ethicists
have been scrambling to determine how this alien method of marketing should be dealt with. There
have been the supporters of big data use, while there have also been those who disapprove, vehemently
denouncing even the idea of such a thing. In this paper, big data will be described exactly, including
the way it is projected to affect the marketing world, and how utilitarianism should be applied to the
moral dilemma in order to reach a satisfactory resolution on the topic.

30. Masculinity In Brokeback Mountain
The typical western genre consists of characteristics that embody masculinity. From a genre
perspective, Brokeback Mountain is a great contrast to the typical western film. While the film
challenges the western genre it also challenges the American view of masculinity. Throughout the
film, the Ennis and Jack face a conflict with themselves and a perceived notion of masculinity.
The two protagonists attempt to reassert their perception of manhood when it is questioned. The
resolve of the conflict when they meet at the end and become emotional establishes the disconnect
from the typical western. Normally, the hero would be emotionless at the end to show and continue
their masculine persona. In Brokeback Mountain, the character Ennis also

31. Magnificent Turning Point
When Maleficent suffers her first heartbreak she loses her wings; symbolising her loss of purity and
almost changing her from angel to devil. As the betrayed Maleficent walks through the Moors the
colour saturation decreases and everything is dull and foggy; giving the audience connotations of
sadness and gloom. Maleficent seeks refuge in the ruins of a castle, where a black crow comes but
Maleficent blows it away, showing a dramatic change in her actions towards nature; she is no longer
the caring girl she was before. The major turning point for Maleficent is when she finds out the man
she loved had cut off her wings out of his greed for power. This turning point is important for the film

To emphasise this there is a fast paced, low violin playing which gives the audience a sense of
intensity. As Maleficent walks back through the Moors, darkness comes over; the plants wilt and the
animals look alarmed at the women whom they once adored. While this happens a drum beat plays in
a low, slow beat along with a trumpet, oboe and double bass; all of this gives a sense of anticipation to
viewers. Maleficent takes her throne in a cluster of branches strongly resembling a rib cage, she sits in
the place of the heart looking malevolent, living up to the origin of her name, thus representing the
evil in her heart. The shot the director has chosen to use is a mid shot, showing Maleficent s sharp
features and superior posture . Lightning strikes in this scene, the director s use of pathetic fallacy to
portray her anger. Maleficent goes to the christening of Aurora; as she enters the hall her shadow is
cast upon the stone wall, strongly representing the devil, her horns in particular; the statues moulded
onto this wall appear to be bowing down to her, maybe even kneeling for

32. Essay On Unconditional Basic Income (UBI) In Canada
INTRODUCTION The debate over implementing an unconditional basic income (UBI) in Canada is
one currently being discussed and which splits political parties support. This paper will make the case
that a guaranteed annual income would be beneficial for Canadian citizens, encouraging freedom of
opportunity for every person, regardless of their financial status. In addition, it will look at how
different ideological affiliations affect one s opinion on the subject. The concept has been tried
previously in Canada, namely in Dauphin, Manitoba in the late 1970s as an experiment aimed to
observe the economic response of a negative income tax (Simpson, Mason, and Godwin 2017, 85).
Recently, the announcement that Ontario will introduce a similar pilot ... Show more content on

One reason for this is because many people view the oil fields to be assets owned by individual
citizens and not the government; therefore what they do with their dividend is their own private
matter. Secondly, politicians fear any close inspection of the fund s economic effects will stir up
suspicions that they may be planning a change in the future (Goldsmith 2004, 555). Informal attempts
to learn about citizens spending habits after receiving the cheque show that the money is often used
shortly after distribution. Many economists believe that the income is often spent on consumer durable
goods, a reasonable assumption considering it is received before the Christmas shopping season.
These spending patterns would provide increased jobs in trade and service sectors of the economy
