Ester Synthesis Lab Report
The synthesis of an ester using Fisher esterification by reacting acetic acid with an unknown alcohol
was performed. Fisher esterification is a reaction that produces ester by refluxing a carboxylic acid
and an alcohol in presence of an acid catalyst. In this experiment, the carboxylic acid is acetic acid,
and the alcohol is unknown. The product has a banana like smell, which was most likely to be pentyl
acetate, 2 pentyl acetate, or isopentyl acetate. The IR spectroscopy was performed on the alcohol and
the product in order to confirm the synthesis of ester. Three distinct signals were observed on alcohol
IR spectrum. A broad signal was observed between 3500 3200cm 1 indicates O H functional group.

4 distinct signals and two overlapping signals were observed on the spectrum. From left to right, the
first signal labeled as B is a multiplet at 4.8ppm since it is next to the ester group, has 5 neighbors, is
the most deshielded proton. Therefore, the ester can be either 2 pentylacetate or 1, 3 dimethylbutyl
acetate. Since it has the banana like smell, the ester would most likely be 2 pentylacetate. Other
signals would further confirm the identity of the synthesized ester. The signals labeled as A at
2.01ppm should be a singlet since it is next the ester group and has no neighbor. Two overlapping
signals labeled as D E have 3 and 5 neighbors, respectively. The signals are multiplet overlapping each
other between 1.6 to 1.30 ppm. A doublet was seen in the spectrum at 1.18ppm labeled as C since the
protons are on the carbon that attached to the tertiary carbon, which locates next to the ester group
labeled as B and has one proton. Lastly, a triplet labeled F was seen at 0.90ppm, which is the most
shielded since it locates the furthest from the electronegative ester group. These signals confirm that
ester product is indeed 2 pentyl acetate. Since 2 pentyl acetate was confirmed to be the synthesized
ester, the starting alcohol must be

Impact Of Technology On The Classroom
Reflection
Technology helps students in the learning procedure altering the way learning is conveyed. Presently
learning has turned into a customized and significant experience that addresses learners issues as
contradicted to conventional instructor focused and content based training that places essential
accentuation on passing on settled assortments of data and survey students as latent beneficiaries of
learning. Henceforth, regardless of their own disparities, inclinations and histories, technology convey
individualized substance at the time and place students select (e learning and portable adapting) in this
manner, taking so as to expand their learning spaces learning out of the classroom (Domalewska,
2014). I had the opportunity to observe and design a technology checklist to aid in evaluating the
technology in the classroom. The technology list brought awareness to the use of technology in a
classroom setting. The first class I observed did a great job with following all parts of the technology
list. One could indicate that Ms. Lockhart has train her students on the importance and use of
technology. I thought her students were attentive and produce effectiveness utilization of technology.
In addition, I like how the small group transition flowed truly well with the students. They knew what
was expected and delivered. The second class I observed presented the use of technology in a different
form.

The Immortality Of Hela Cells
Vishalkumar Patel
010 388 130
The Immortality of HeLa Cells God created everything good and men s efforts towards creativity by
using technology makes it better. Tissue culture is the technique that involves removal of cells, tissues
or organs from the animal or plant and their subsequent placement in to an artificial environment
suitable for their growth, which mimic the in vivo environment from which it derived. In culture,
cancer cells can grow indefinitely, if they have continuous supply of nutrients and environmental
conditions and thus it called immortal , and cells from this tissue called cell line (Skloot,5). One of the
important things that revolutionize the medical field was HeLa cell line derived from cervical cancer
cells of Henrietta Lacks a black African American woman died at 12:15 a.m. on October 4,
1951(Skloot,86). Dr. Wharton had shaved a dime sized tissue from her cervical tumor and that tissue
was given to the Dr. George Gey who was the head of tissue culture research at Johns Hopkins
Hospital (Skloot,33). George was a first person who developed the technique to grow HeLa cells form
cervical tissue of Henrietta Lacks in his lab and given the name HeLa after the first two initials of
Henrietta s first and last names (Skloot,37).
In order to determine function of cells and to evaluate certain theory concerning the cause and
treatments of disease, cell line needed for that must have immortal property means able to grow
indefinitely. However, the normal

Frrantz Fanon And Post-Colonial Theory
1. Introduction
This essay will try to critical review the work of Frantz Fanon work with regards to post colonial
theory. Colonialization can be traced to the early to eleventh century and abolished in the twentieth
century. Franz fanon is one of the critical writers of the post colonial theory having scripted a number
of books. The essay will focus on black skin white face argument, first the review will focus on post
colonial theory then, will focus on the impact and effects colonization has on colonised nation, the
struggle for identity, globalization and will conclude with the question will blacks ever be free? Fanon
indicates that colonisation has effected the culture, believes, religion identity of black skin and
psychology of black skinned could result to violence. Frantz further more justifies violence as way to
political and cultural identification
2. Understanding post colonialization
Post colonial theory is the study of the effects and characteristics of colonization. Post colonial

Analysis Of The Movie Wall E
Animation is an often under estimated medium, being seen as primarily for kids and cute story s that
somewhat lack in substance. But in recent years, companies like Pixar have done a great job of
making family movies which contain a strong message. Wall E is one of those movies. The movie
takes place in the future, after a point where humanity has pushed the earth to a point beyond
vegetation and is currently living aboard a space ship, in which everything they need is done for them,
even walking. Despite its bleak premise, the title character, Wall E is a cute, lovable, family friendly
robot, who is in many ways more human than what s left of humanity.
We are introduced to a world, literally covered in garbage, that Wall E has been sorting through for an
unspecified amount of time, diligently doing his job to compact and sort all the debris, left by his
human creators. As the film proceeds, we see what a lonely existence Wall E leads until Eve shows up
with her unknown directive, eventually becoming a friend to Wall E. As the film proceeds eventually
we find that Eve s motivation is to check whether the Earth is capable of vegetation yet, for the
humans now aboard the Axiom space station.
After following Eve back to Axiom, we find that through generations of over reliance on the machines
aboard Axiom, humans have become anti social, over weight, lazy versions of their former selves. At
this point, the message of the movie starts to kick in and we begin to see where

Homeless Vs Homeless
I currently live in a city with a large and very diverse population. At one end of the city, you will see
large expensive homes with little to no violence, but on the other end, you see homes that are
deteriorating as time passes by along with gun violence almost every night. These are the places where
you see more homeless shelters and others begging for food and money. These are the people that
suffer on the streets in the cold every night while we scroll through Facebook on our comfy couch.
According to NJ.com, Hudson County was the home of 829 homeless persons in 2016, the third
largest homeless population in the state of New Jersey. While we enjoy the comfort of our home, these
unfortunate people have to live outside during subzero

Too Much to Bear in The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien
Too Much to Bear The things I carry are both figurative and literal. I carry a pen, a pencil, a textbook
or two, and paper. I carry memories, experiences, pain, guilt, cowardice, love and happiness. In the
novel The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien, O Brien centralizes on why people carry what they
do, physical or not. To be honest, I carry what I do because I must. If I don t carry that one textbook
that one day, I ll regret it. If I forget what it was like have my first icecream cone, what if felt like the
instant my mouth froze up and the inside of my head pounded so loudly I almost screamed, I will be
less of who I am today. What I carry defines me. In the novel, the tangible and intangible loads the
soldiers carry define them; such as Lt. Cross s who carry s a picture of and intangible feelings for
Martha. What the soldiers burdened themselves with was largely determined, emotionally or
physically, was by necessity. The tangible objects depicted in the book are especially relevant. The
author s style of writing is very elaborate only because he wants the readers to discern sympathy
towards the soldiers. The author tells us about the weight of the objects each of the soldiers carry to
supplement our overall total lasting impression. O Brien says in the first chapter, he recounts the literal
objects each soldier carried. As PFCs or Spec 4s, most of them were common grunts and carried the
standard M 16 gas operated assault rifle. The weapon weighed 7.5 pounds

Once Were Warriors Themes
Tweet
Jake Heke is a man with a hair trigger temper, and its unpredictability is the most frightening thing
about him. He likes to play the role of the genial, beer swilling host, playing his guitar, singing songs,
beloved by all, especially late at night by his drunken buddies. But let someone cross him, and he can
lash out in the blink of an eye, the rage boiling over.H NOW
Jake and his wife, Beth, are Maoris, living in a housing development in New Zealand. They re both
good looking people, and Jake, with his sunny, sleepy eyed, self satisfied smile, seems like he s
brimming with confidence. He is not. Beer fuels his resentments and insecurities, and masks his
strength.
There is a scene early in Once Were Warriors where he gets into a ... Show more content on

This is not a narrow drama that focuses on a few themes; it paints a whole style of life, the good times
with the bad, and perhaps no scene is more sad than the one in which the family rents a car and sets
off on a picnic, happy and in good spirits, only to have everything go wrong when Jake decides to stop
for just one drink.
Mamaengaroa Kerr Bell, as Grace, the pretty teenager, is also important to the film; she reflects a hope
and optimism that somehow shines even on the family s cloudiest days, and although her runaway
boyfriend s hideout under an expressway seems grim, they are able to make it into a refuge where
laughter and dreams are possible.
Then everything goes bad for them, too.
Once Were Warriors has been praised as an attack on domestic violence and abuse. So it is. But I am
not sure anyone needs to see this film to discover that such brutality is bad. We know that. I value it
for two other reasons: its perception in showing the way alcohol triggers sudden personality shifts, and
its power in presenting two great performances by Morrison and Owen. You don t often see acting like
this in the movies. They bring the Academy Awards into

Jeffrey Kluger Why We Love Summary
The article written by Jeffrey Kluger, Why We Love , speaks about one of the most controversial
topics among all the generations. It begins by presenting its topic which is why a person choose to
have sex with one person, to the point in which that they conceive a child. It is not only the sex part
that is controversial in this topic but what causes a person to be in love or to feel attracted by another
person. The person that is usually in love don t measure any risk and just want to spend the rest of
their lives with one another and do many things that they have not done for anyone. Whenever a
person is choosing a mate or is in love with someone, they always look at different characteristics that
makes the opposite sex to feel attracted. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The person feel attracted to the smell that they feel comfortable around. People usually have a smell
that they like more and whenever they smell that scent the person would automatically look around to
find from where is that smell that is grabbing their attention. These reactions are caused by the
pheromones that are scent signaling chemicals that happen in animals. In addition, it was mention that
the woman who are ovulating are more attractive to men than women who are not ovulating. Also,
men s show more loving and affections toward their partners when they are ovulating than when they
are not. However, smell is not the only factor that a person should take in consideration when trying to
find a mate to conceive a child with.
A person should look for someone that has a different MHC. The major histocompatibility complex or
more known as MHC is in charge to find foreign molecules in vertebrates and determines the
histocompatibility, which is in charge of tissue rejection. If a person choose some that have similar

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, authored by...
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Stephen Covey authored the book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, to offer his expert,
professional, and personal insight of seven habits, or traits, exhibited by effective people. While
outlining the seven habits, he emphasizes that each previous habit is the building block for the next.
He also shows how all the habits are tied together to effectively transition through the growth stages of
dependence to independence to interdependence to become an effective person.
The Habits
Covey explains that the following seven habits are exhibited by effective people.
Be proactive

Put first things first

As people, we mostly listen to a person with intent to answer. We do not emphatically listen to the
other person and try to really understand what they are feeling and what their viewpoint is. If we begin
to truly understand people when we are engaged in a conversation, they will notice this and begin to
open up even more.
Habit 6: Synergize
Synergy, by definition, is when the whole is greater than the sum of the parts (Merriam Webster 1997).
To synergize is to work closely and cooperate with others to find a creative, non compromising
solution that is equally beneficial to all parties. This is very closely related to the think win/win habit.
When you communicate synergistically, you are opening your eyes, heart, and mind to new options,
ideas, and thoughts. By doing so, you will foster win/win situations, as well as, satisfy habit two,
begin with the end in mind, because the end is a win/win situation.
By employing habits four through six, Covey says public victory will have been achieved and the
paradigm shift from independence to interdependence will have been made. However, there is one last
habit to employ: habit seven, sharpen the saw.
Habit 7: Sharpen The Saw
To sharpen the saw is referring to keeping yourself sharp. In other words, you are the saw. It is a cycle
of renewal to become better, keener, and more effective. In order to accomplish this, Covey breaks the
cycle of renewal down into four dimensions: Physical, Mental, Social/Emotional, and

It is evident from the above passage that Caliban was the sole owner of the island after the death of his
mother. There were no restrictions on his movement and he enjoyed the fruits of freedom till the
deposed Prospero arrives on the island. At the beginning, Prospero s attitude to Caliban was like that
of an authoritative teacher to a student. He makes all the efforts to reform Caliban by teaching him his
language which made him aware of his pathetic condition. After this, Caliban does show his gratitude

civilization, humans are essentially good; it is civilization that makes them act in bad ways. His
uncouth appearance and abusive language are not only natural but also essential to live in conformity
with the surroundings. Shakespeare uses pun in the names of the two main characters of the play

Essay on The Effect of God on Robinson Crusoe
It has been observed that when placed in harsh or unusual conditions, people tend to look to spiritual
support to help them overcome adversity. In Robinson Crusoe, Daniel Defoe not only depicts the
struggle of a man abandoned on a deserted island, but also depicts Crusoe s repentance for past
disobedience against his father and humanity as well as his acceptance of religion into his life. Crusoe
s religious beliefs, however, do not remain consistent; in fact, he later uses religion as a justification
for murder and other immoral acts. Crusoe accepts religion into his life, repenting for his sins
throughout the novel, however his faith is not genuine, only becoming strong when he experiences
misfortunes.

begins to relieve himself by listing both the good and evil of his situation. Crusoe confronted with
tragedy quickly takes religion into his life, but once again the sincerity in his beliefs can easily be
questioned by the reader. Additionally, once Crusoe is settled into his life on the island, he forgets his
commitment to religion until he becomes deathly ill. In his journal he writes Very ill, frighted almost
to death with the apprehension of my sad condition ... Prayed to God for the first time since the storm

Masque Of The Red Death Essay
The Masque of the Red Death was published in May of 1842 by Edgar Allen Poe. It s clearly an
allegorical story, one that can be more narrowly defined as a parable. A parable is defined by
Encyclopedia Britannica as a fable like story which uses humans instead of animals, and draws an
analogy between a particular instance of human behavior...and human behaviour at large . It s
specifically designed to deliver a moral message or lesson, and the one in Masque is that no one can
escape death, no matter what artifices are placed to obstruct it. This is interesting, but the real
magnificence of the tale is in the literary genre in which Poe tells it, which is the Grotesque. The
definition of this term in literature is a bit indistinct, but can be reduced to a couple of key
characteristics: The Grotesque fits in between the real and the fantastic, while being simultaneously
centered between funny and frightening (The Grotesque). Poe s ... Show more content on

The goriness and irony of Prince Prospero s revel tell only half the story of the danse macabre. (Di
Renzo, 193)
Harold Bloom argues that the novella isn t grotesque at all, but Arabesque: The Mask of the Red
Death is one of Poe s most memorable Arabesques (Bloom, 13). While this is partially true because of
the psychological aspects of the piece, it s not entirely accurate as a representation of the entire work.
The creation of terror, the juxtaposition of the real and supernatural, the absurdity and almost comical
aspects, all the poles of what we understand the grotesque to mean have been solidly touched upon in
The Masque of the Red Death. Poe himself refined and encapsulated a coherent meaning for the
grotesque, and the tale stands as a perfect example of what a good representation of it should strive to

Exploration of Charlie Chaplin?s Influences, Symbolism, and Use of Sound in The Great Dictator
(1940) In the early 1900?s, Charlie Chaplin became one of the most famous filmmakers in American
history. His clumsy portrayal of The Little Tramp in many silent pictures led to him becoming a
household name by 1917; his vast writing and directing career was just getting started. By the 1930?s,

By this time, Chaplin, a vocally political anti fascist, had expressed his dislike for Germany?s Fuhrer
and had been working on The Great Dictator since 1937 (Cole, 2001). Despite this, Chaplin was
pressured ?either to render the images and message of his film inoffensive to Hitler and Mussolini,
which meant eliminating any anti fascist propaganda element, or else to drop the project altogether?
from the start of his work on the film (Cole, 2001). Until this point in time, the American cinema had
ignored Hitler?s presence and actions, as propaganda films were still slightly looked down upon, due
to their misuse during World War I (Cole, 2001). Perhaps another reason for Chaplin?s public dislike
of Hitler, was that his wife at the time, Paulette Goddard, was herself Jewish (Brownlow Kloft, 2002).
In the film itself, Chaplin shows many events that reflect the reality of late 1930?s Germany including
most prominently the treatment of the Jewish people through representations of anti semitic graffiti
and an event reminiscent of Kristallnacht. In the early scenes of the Jewish ghetto, the windows all
have painted graffiti reading Jew (Sherman, 2002). During the beginning of Jewish persecution in
Germany, it was not uncommon for Nazis and Nazi sympathizers to paint anti semitic texts on to the
windows of Jewish owned shops and homes. Through enormous set pieces, innovative camera work,

Support A strategic leader should definitely analyze what affects competitive advantage and how
exactly the company is underperforming. One of the recommendations would be scenario planning. It
would be beneficial to analyze various cases where different product categories can be changed and to
see how will the certain change affect the financial performance of the company. The second
recommendation would be to synthesize all available input from all possible sources internal and
external and create a strategic vision that will help the company see where they need to make changes
and how those changes will help the growth of the financial. Another recommendation would be to
provide customers the service that other competitors do not provide be it either discounts or other
ways of promotions. This will help differentiate PepsiCo from its competitors. Do you agree with
Indra Nooyi s philosophy that performance and purpose are intimately linked and you can t do one
without the other ? Support I agree with this statement because I think that purpose is what provides
motivation for the better level of performance. Human sustainability, environmental sustainability and
the whole person at work being the three main dimensions of the philosophy appeal to a wide range of
people. This helps to attract people who care about the environment and the product and living the life

Cherokee Removal Speech
The Cherokee Indians have lived on the North American continent far longer than anyone of British
decent. Yet they were removed in a brutal manner from their homeland, on which they have lived for
countless centuries. This journey of removal is called the Trail of Tears, which had a horrendous effect
on the Cherokees.
In 1791, the United States began negotiations with the Cherokee nation. However, Americans began
moving onto Cherokee land and forcing them away due to want/need of land for farming and other
purposes. This began a series of events that led to their removal. In 1828 the state of Georgia passed a
law that stated, as of June 1, 1830 the Cherokee Nation would be null and void, it would no longer be
seen as a nation to the state of Georgia.
During the nineteenth century as many as one hundred thousand Natives were forcefully moved
westward. Those removed came from five different tribes. These were the Cherokee, Chickasaw,
Choctaw, Creek, and the Seminoles who were forced to move during the decade of the Indian
Removal Act of 1830.The tribe that was most affected by this was the Cherokee was a tribe that who
experienced one of the most horrific removals in our nation s history. The Cherokee stated, The
Cherokee removal was named Nunna dual Tsung (Trail Where They Cried). Although to us it is
known as the Trail of Tears.

Black Holes Research Paper
Throughout the lifespan of galaxies and universes, interstellar objects are created and destroyed
including stars, asteroids, nebulas, and black holes. One of the rarest interstellar creations are black
holes, of which are only found in three forms. These three forms include stellar, supermassive, and
intermediate black holes. Black holes are mysteries that were not fully understood until the beginning
of the 20th century, when multiple scientist focused their research on them. They predicted theories
and made many discoveries. These scientists include Sir Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, John Wheeler,
and Stephen Hawking. These scientists have helped us to quickly advance our knowledge on the
universe and surrounding galaxies.

They are scattered throughout the galaxies. A stellar black hole is the product of the death of a giant
star such as a pulsar or a neutron star. Black holes in general are very rare because most stars are not
massive enough to create them. When a star stops producing fusion energy, the equilibrium of the star
no longer exists. Without the star producing any fuel, there is no pressure created that can hold the star
in place. The pressure that a star creates is used to prevent the gravity from crushing the core. Now
that there is no pressure pushing outward, the gravity becomes so violent that it crushes matter to the
point that it is completely destroyed. At this point, black holes are born. Black holes are created in rare
occasions. During the death of most stars, they slowly dim out or explode into trillions of microscopic
particles. For example, the sun, which is a red dwarf, will slowly die out. Eta Carinae on the other
hand, located 8,000 light years away from Earth, is likely to explode within the next several hundred

Key Themes In The Film Kramer V. Kramer
The movie Kramer v. Kramer is about a man named Billy Kramer, who is left with his son for 18
months. After those 18 months Kramer devolves a bond with his son that he didn t have in the past
years. After those 18 months Kramer s wife comes to take the child back by filing for custody. There
are a few key themes from the movie Kramer v Kramer. One of the main themes is the theme about
men being able to take care of children just as good as a female. This movie helped change America s
perspective on the male parent. Another theme of the movie is that the male should appreciate his wife
and all of her house duties. At this time in America men were more focused on their careers than they
were focused on their wives. This led to depression and other mental illnesses on women at the time.
The movie Kramer v Kramer starts with Bill Kramer coming home to find out that his wife is leaving

Hermes was a god of fertility in Greek Mythology. He was especially concerned with the sheep and
goats raised by his principal worshippers, the people in Arcadia, Southern Greece. In ancient poetry,
Hermes functioned as a messenger of the gods. Hermes was also a guide for souls to the underworld
and for travelers. Also, he was a protector of boundaries; a helper of heralds, speakers, traders, and
thieves; and a bringer of good or unexpected luck. The Romans area rumored to have invented
Mercury as an equivalent to Hermes. He was also closely connected with bringing dreams to mortals.

Postmodernism And Its Impact On The Western Of The...
The emergence of postmodernism in the wake of the manifold carnage and destruction left by World
War II (1939 1945), induced a fundamental shift in paradigms of historiography. This is patently
evident when assessing the multi faceted impacts of postmodern critiques on the critical variant of the
Sonderweg master narrative. An assessment of these impacts will be achieved through a close analysis
of three historical works, namely Hans Ulrich Wehler s seminal social history on Imperial Germany
1871 1918 (1973), David Blackbourn and Geoff Eley s neo Marxist The Peculiarities of German
History (1984) and Konrad. H. Jarausch and Michael Geyer s Shattered Past: Reconstructing German
Histories (2002). Postmodernism s impact manifests in these three works by revealing an inherent
tension between the postmodern approach to history and the differing interpretations of the Sonderweg
master narrative. This results in a weakening of the Sonderweg thesis validity as its contribution to the
historiographical debate surrounding the rise of National Socialism in Germany, is constrained by
such critiques and tensions. However, the Sonderweg thesis facilitation of retrospective discussion
through amplification of meaning , emphasises a different facet of historical validity . What prevails
from this analysis, is that the Sonderweg thesis attempt to explain the rise of National Socialism in
Germany; while problematic, has generated prolific historiographical debate and in this respect,

The Other Side Of Castro
The Other Side of Castro In my 27 years on this planet, I have heard little to nothing about the
revolutionist and Cuban leader Fidel Castro. Of the small amount of conversation which has occurred
in front of me, Castro was always described in a negative way. He was described as a cruel, selfish
Communist dictator who is against the ideas and beliefs of my own country. For those reasons, I have
never bothered educating myself about Castro and his life. Now that I am older, my education has
presented the opportunity for me to get to know Castro and see things from his perspective, the non
American perspective. Because I am curious about Castro s rise early life, rise to power, and
accomplishments during his rule, I have decided to research him due to the social movement which he
represents for his people and the world. In order to understand a leader, one must start from their
beginning. Fidel Alejandro Castro was born, out of wedlock, in August 13, 1926. His mother was Lina
Ruz Gonzalez, and she was the housekeeper to his father s first spouse, Maria Luisa Argota. Castro s
father, Angel, made a living from his sugar plantation. In Cuba, the sugar plantations were a major
source of income for many people and their country. Castro had five siblings in total, all born out of
wedlock. It was not until Castro was fifteen years old that his father decided to end his marriage with
Maria to wed his mother Lina ( Fidel Alejandro ). Many critics of Castro s life comment on his

Musical Analysis Gcse
The thing that makes musicals so different amongst other films is that it builds a story from works of
original music. I admire the ability to write a piece of music, but I admire it even more when another
composer comes in with the same piece of music and the sound comes out completely different. In a
way they enhance the sound and perfect upon it. Moulin Rouge is an excellent example of this. The
writers and composers combine elements of theater, opera, traditional cinema, and numerous elements
of pop culture to create an almost completely new genre of film. It isn t about the weary and corrupt,

satirical and comical can can approach takes hold of the movie for a while, highlighted by the frenzied

The Importance Of High School Athletes In Sports
Bobby Unser once said Success is where preparation and opportunity meet. . This quote is relevant to
this subject, because if the athlete works hard at preparing himself to excel at his grades he should be
granted the opportunity to play sports. High school athletes should be required to acquire a certain
GPA in order to participate in sports for a multitude of reasons, including: First, having higher grades
would teach the players to work hard in order to participate in activities they enjoy. Second, after the
student graduates from high school, colleges are going to look at their GPA in order for the athletes to
qualify for a scholarship whether for athletics or academics (Blake). Lastly, playing sports is a
privilege, not a priority (Reeves). The players having to maintain a certain GPA would teach them
hard work. It would teach them hard work by showing the players they won t receive everything just
handed to them. It would also show the athletes that they need to work hard in order to be able to do
the extracurricular activities they enjoy doing. The athletes learning hard work would help them in
college because they need to know how to work hard on their education in college. Lastly, learning
hard work from obtaining a high GPA is that if the player proves he can work hard academically it will
also prove that he can work hard as an athlete (Wells) After high school if the athlete wants to attend
college they will need to have a certain GPA. They will need a certain

Analysis Of Jonathan Swift s Gulliver s Travels
Jonathan Swift was a writer known for his use of satire: the application of humor, irony, exaggeration,
and ridicule to expose and criticize. At a glance, the novel seems to be a travel log of Lemuel Gulliver
s adventures, but is primarily a work of satire. Through Gulliver s Travels, Swift strives to satirize the
eighteenth century humanity. Swift was titled a misanthrope, a hater of humanity, his misanthropy rose
from his disappointment in mankind. Swift utilizes Gulliver in satirizing the population, which he was
disappointed with, in each voyage of the novel. The satire used in Gulliver s Travels is used to reveal
how Swift regarded mankind, as societies who did not exist to their utmost potential to be great but
were instead exhibiting the frills of greatness.
Swift was recognized as a man of intelligence and used his intellect to display the anarchy, corruption,
and confusion of the eighteenth century England. He saw the idiocy and the vices behind the façade of
reason and common sense. His intelligence was capable to of identifying evil in all its forms and areas
of presence and he could not endure the lack of reason in any aspect of human existence. His being of
displeased with the ways of people, Swift felt accountable to try to reform it. Corruption in religion
was vigorously criticized along with the impractical use of scientific knowledge in his works. Swift
felt that man could never achieve perfection. He frequently used a mask in his writing, hiding behind

Basic Parameters That Affect The Performance
7. Basic Parameters That Affect The Performance in RTOS
7.1 Multi tasking and preemptable:
In RTOS the system have to be multitasking and preemptable because those two features make the
RTOS Scheduler end any lower priority task to execute the higher ones or to release some resources
for other tasks that urgently need those resources. Also the system have to handle different level of
priorities of interrupts.(Yerraballi,R. 2000)
7.2 Dynamic deadline identification:
In some scheduling algorithms such as (EDF)the deadline is converted to priority levels. Then we can
control priorities by controlling the deadlines. Although such an approach is error prone, nonetheless it
is employed for lack of a better solution (Buttazzo, 2005).
7.3 Predictable synchronization:
The threads of the system need to communication and to be synchronized in a timely efficient and
predictable way.
7.4 Sufficient Priority Levels:
In the scheduling algorithms based on priorities. There must be enough levels of priorities. Priority
inversion occur when a low level priority hold the resource that the the high level priority is waiting
for or blocked due to this resource, and the lower priority is delayed because low priority task. Two
workarounds in dealing with priority inversion, namely priority inheritance and priority ceiling
protocols (PCP), need sufficient priority levels.
7.5 Predefined latencies:
The timing of the systems must be predictable and this is done by defining task switching

A Comparison of Wealth in Antony and Cleopatra and The...
The Importance of Wealth in Antony and Cleopatra and The Tempest
Wealth and it s relationship to poverty figures in heavily in two of the plays we have read thus far in
class. In both Antony and Cleopatra and The Tempest we are treated to characters and situations that
deal with wealth and poverty. Specifically however, both plays have visions of an abundance of wealth
that seems at times both corruptible and foolish. In Antony and Cleopatra we have their excessive
behavior and flaunting, which proves to be a vice that grips them much to tightly. In The Tempest,
characters stranded on a deserted island have their own unique versions of achieving that said
abundance. Shakespeare treats the topic similarly in both plays, and ... Show more content on

Antony is a soldier foremost, and his actions at the moment, that of wealth and slack are not becoming
of a soldier or, Shakespeare thinks, even a man. This point is made even more solid when Antony
himself says it; O, my fortunes have/Corrupted honest men! (IV.v.16 17). It hardly gets any plainer
than that. The Tempest by virtue of plot seems and even more direct attack on wealth and abundance.
In the play, characters are stripped of their real world places and placed in an area where everything is
quite different. The abundance here becomes for some characters, the so called hope for the New
World that we have discussed in class. But for others, Caliban in specific, his view is corrupted by
these new elements and he begins to crave riches as well. Both of these wants, however, do turn on to
be negative. For example, early in the play, Gonzalo speaks and says:
I th commonwealth I would by contraries Execute all things, for no kind of traffic Would I admit; no
name of magistrate; Letters should not be known; riches, poverty And use of service, none; contract,
succession, Bourn, bound of land, tilth, vineyard, none; No use of metal, corn, or wine, or oil; No

The Original Ancient Olympic Games Essay
The original ancient Olympic Games can be followed back to 776 B.C although per Homer s Iliad
they may have existed as early as the twelfth century BC. The Games proceeded for twelve centuries
and were devoted to Olympian deities. Olympia turned into the site of these memorable ancient
Olympic games that scattered the seeds for the most desired global sporting events of current times,
the Modern Olympics. The location of the Ancient Olympics is situated in the western piece of
Peloponnese. As per Greek mythology, Peloponnese is the island of Pelops, the Founder of the
Olympic Games. The Ancient Olympic Games were sustained until 393 A.D when Emperor
Theodosius I of Rome discontinued them. There were not any Olympic games for fifteen hundred
years before they were resurrected in 1896 in the city of Athens. The man in charge of its resurrection
was a Frenchman named Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who introduced the thought in 1894. His
innovative idea was to uncover the present day Games in 1900 in his local Paris, however appoints
from 34 nations were so captivated with the idea that they persuaded him to move the Games up to
1896 and have Athens serve as the main host.
The antiquated Olympic Games started, when Koroibos, a cook from the close by city of Elis, won the

In my opinion, being spiritually dead is like being a living zombie. Talking about spirituality does not
only refers to God but to one s belief. One cannot call it life if he is not free of his actions and
thinking. The modern man is running against time, trying to make money to buy happiness. He does
not have time to question his existence as the definition of one s existence is somehow formed by the
society and its surrounding. A typical example will be where people uses religion as excuses for their
actions trying to make as if their religion defines themselves. Samuel Beckett play s Waiting for Godot
can be referred as pure absurdity but even nowadays people as still waiting for Godot. They are either
waiting for God to come on earth as in the Judaism religion where they are still waiting for the
messiah to come and take them to the promise land (Isaiah 2: 4) or waiting for Death to come an
deliver them from their struggles. Who is Godot? We have no idea of the existence of this thing or
person. Same apply to people s faith. As what is faith? Ii is to have trust in something or someone that
one s has never seen. But this is what keep people alive, to have faith in the unknown. Man wants
freedom and happiness but one cannot find it by doing nothing. As Andy hunt (2008) perfectly said

Comparing Women in Lowell’s Patterns and Sorrell’s From a...
The Struggle of Women in Lowell s Patterns and Sorrell s From a Correct Address
Woman is not born, feminist Andrea Dworkin wrote. She is made. In the making, her humanity is
destroyed. She becomes symbol of this, symbol of that: mother of the earth, slut of the universe; but
she never becomes herself because it is forbidden for her to do so. Dworkin s quote relates to women
throughout history who have been forced to conform. Although women can be regarded highly in
society, representing images of fertility, security, and beauty, many people still view them in
stereotypical ways; some people believe that all women should act a certain way, never letting their
true selves shine through. Amy Lowell s Patterns and Helen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

On the other hand, the author also gives details to show the woman s unhappiness with her life. For
example, she writes, The daffodils and squills / Flutter in the breeze / As they please. / And I weep (22
25); these lines imply that, although she can wander in her magnificent garden, objects inside of it
cause her to feel grief because she realizes she can never be as free as the flowers.
From a Correct Address in a Suburb of a Major City parallels Patterns in the fact that it also gives
contrasting details of the woman s life. The first clue that the woman in the poem is wealthy is the
title. Since she lives not only in the suburbs, but also at a correct address, the title signifies that the
woman s household seems to be proper and wealthy. Another mention of her wealth appears in line
four when the author writes, charming, proper at cocktails (4). Attending cocktail parties is not
something a low or middle class woman normally does, so the reader infers that the woman lives an
upper class life. In contrast to these details, the author gives descriptive details of the woman s
unhappiness. For instance, immediately after the line mentioning cocktails, Sorrells describes the
woman in the poem as having her inner one raging and wondering how to hide her [inner self] (5 6).
These phrases illustrate that, although she lives a financially comfortable life, her inner

The Decision For El Salvador s Supreme Court
Throughout the semester, students have learned of the importance of the interplay amongst different
levels of actors in international relations politics. These various institutions, governments, groups, and
individuals are especially important when considering the issue of human rights. My chosen article, co
written by Elisabeth Malkin and Gene Palumbo, describes the landmark decision for El Salvador s
Supreme Court to overturn an amnesty law that protected perpetrators of human rights violations. The
ruling of the Supreme Court is based on the grounds that the amnesty is unconstitutional due to
violating international human rights laws (Malkin, Palumba). This event is particularly important
because previous governments ignored these violations that stemmed from civil unrest. The amnesty
law was established in 1992 after a civil war of more than 12 years and effectively covers all crimes
committed by both sides during the war (Dolliver, Kanavel, Robeck). However, due to its contestable
legality both domestically and internationally, El Salvador s Supreme Court decided to rule on the
amnesty s law constitutionality for the final time. This article is relevant in the context of increasing
global concern over human rights. More recent debates in international relations discuss the
importance of the individual over that of states and sovereignty, especially in a society in which
national and global boundaries are being transcended and constantly undermined. Multiple levels

Gullivers Supposed English Superiority Essay
Gullivers Supposed English Superiority Gulliver s typical Anglocentric Enlightenment views are best
exemplified in Chapter 1 of Part IV of Gulliver s Travels. The long paragraph, in which he describes
his encounter with the Yahoos as well as the circumstances leading up to it, illustrates the climax of
his Anglocentric views, after which his English pride begins to gradually degenerate and his desire to
emulate the Houyhnyms arises. His English pride in this paragraph is demonstrated by his resolution
to trade his life with the local Savages using Toys as his only means, his judgment of the Yahoo s lack
of comprehensive language ability, and his ever present disgust for bodily functions. As the passage
opens, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to his sense of Enlightenment superiority, Gulliver does not even entertain the possibility that his
life actually is as insignificant as the Toys which he plans on trading for it. Ironically, as his pride
degenerates into a hatred for his own race, Gulliver indeed starts to believe in the insignificance of
human life. After Gulliver considers his options, he inspects the island and observes a species of
animals whom he likens at different points in the paragraph to goats, squirrels, monsters, cattle and
beasts. It is no wonder then, that later when Gulliver reveals that these creatures are human beings,
that his reader is surprised. He describes their shapes as Singular and deformed....their Skins were of a
brown Buff colour. Perhaps one reason Gulliver does not initially see any resemblance between
himself and the Yahoos is because they are not white; perhaps his Anglocentric ideal does not permit
any color but white to be acknowledged as his equal. What seems certain, however, is the fact that
Gulliver feels an immediate antipathy to the Yahoos because they show no indication of having a
rational language. In watching them, he does not see them speak to each other and this alienates him
because as we see in each voyage, it is imperative to Gulliver that he learn the language of the peoples
he encounters, from the Lilliputians to the Brobdingnagians. As with all his journeys, he wants to find
inhabitants that he may

A Case Study On The Maiden 500kmplus Challenge
Since the adventure bug bit on his maiden 500kmPlus challenge in 2015, the 41 year old Capetonian
has been testing his mettle cross country and fundraising for local charities. Willie started small his
words, not mine when he ran, cycled and paddled a distance of 581km from Mossel Bay to
Franschhoek. Funds raised on his first 500kmPlus adventure went to Tin Can Town and assisted
impoverished communities in Blikkiesdorp. Next up was the 511km journey along rugged West Coast,
which was in aid of pet rescue organisation Fallen Angels. After that came his 646km pedal powered
expedition along the dusty R355 from Kleinsee to Ceres. But for endurance athletes like Willie, it s
never quite enough, is it? Eager to up the ante on his most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The endurance athlete aimed to cover 100km each day between their sunrise departure and mid to late
afternoon arrival at each stayover. Willie typically began each stage with about 20km of running
before a 70km cycle and another 10km on foot to the finish. Where there was no pre arranged
accommodation, the team relied upon the goodwill of other people often farmers who permitted them
to camp on their properties. In some towns, the affiliated charity organisations were able to arrange
discounted or free accommodation for the team. Once we arrived at a stop, we would look around for
somewhere to stay. If there was nothing available, we would find a farmhouse, knock on the door and
ask if we could pitch our tents for the night. We were strangers, but every person we met was so
accommodating and trusting of us. Multi stage endurance expeditions of this magnitude demand of
athletes immense physical and mental tenacity, no matter how great their preparation. The ultra
distances Willie covered repetitively were taxing on his body, mind and gear. He also endured
temperatures in the mid 30s which occasionally reached 40 degrees Celsius and threatened
dehydration. Conditions were extreme. Heat, wind, dust, rain there was always something working
against me. My backside was aching and blistered just three days after leaving Namibia. Lubricant
helped for a while, but when that ran out I had to use cooking oil. It was rough. By his own

Childbearing practices in Turkey
Today?s society is a global community. More and more people are immigrating to different countries
including the United States. As a result, nurses must become competent in providing care to numerous
cultures. Nurses must strive to become competent in understanding the values, beliefs, and health care
expectations of the communities and cultures they are serving. Dr. Leininger?s Theory of Culture Care
Diversity and Universality has given nursing a framework and a model that continue to guide ... Show

?Childbearing is a time of transition and social celebration of central importance in any society,
signaling a realignment of existing cultural roles and responsibilities, psychological and biologic
states, and social relationships? (Andrews, Boyle, Andrews, 2012, p. 92). The focus of my paper is the
childbearing practice for the Turkish culture, focusing on pre natal care, birthing practices and
customs, and post partum care.
Turkey is a country that has a deep rich history that is filled with traditions, customs and superstitions.
Superstitions in Turkey apply to all aspects of their life, but have a huge part in pregnancy and child
birth. Turks love babies and believe that each life renews hope for the culture and the Turkish family
as well. In Turkey, every birth is a source of great joy not only for the parents, but also for relatives,
friends and the community. ?Every birth increases the number of family members, and increased
number have always meant increased strength? (Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism,
2015). Although Turkey is in many ways modern and Western, the Islamic tendencies are very strong.
The primary religion practiced in Turkey is Muslim so the majority of birth practices are related to
beliefs from that religion.
Pre natal and pre birth practices
Turkish people are very generous and believe in giving gifts to show respect, appreciation and
admiration. They do not have traditional baby showers

  • 2. Ester Synthesis Lab Report The synthesis of an ester using Fisher esterification by reacting acetic acid with an unknown alcohol was performed. Fisher esterification is a reaction that produces ester by refluxing a carboxylic acid and an alcohol in presence of an acid catalyst. In this experiment, the carboxylic acid is acetic acid, and the alcohol is unknown. The product has a banana like smell, which was most likely to be pentyl acetate, 2 pentyl acetate, or isopentyl acetate. The IR spectroscopy was performed on the alcohol and the product in order to confirm the synthesis of ester. Three distinct signals were observed on alcohol IR spectrum. A broad signal was observed between 3500 3200cm 1 indicates O H functional group. Various small sharp sp3 C H signals between ... From left to right, the first signal labeled as B is a multiplet at 4.8ppm since it is next to the ester group, has 5 neighbors, is the most deshielded proton. Therefore, the ester can be either 2 pentylacetate or 1, 3 dimethylbutyl acetate. Since it has the banana like smell, the ester would most likely be 2 pentylacetate. Other signals would further confirm the identity of the synthesized ester. The signals labeled as A at 2.01ppm should be a singlet since it is next the ester group and has no neighbor. Two overlapping signals labeled as D E have 3 and 5 neighbors, respectively. The signals are multiplet overlapping each other between 1.6 to 1.30 ppm. A doublet was seen in the spectrum at 1.18ppm labeled as C since the protons are on the carbon that attached to the tertiary carbon, which locates next to the ester group labeled as B and has one proton. Lastly, a triplet labeled F was seen at 0.90ppm, which is the most shielded since it locates the furthest from the electronegative ester group. These signals confirm that ester product is indeed 2 pentyl acetate. Since 2 pentyl acetate was confirmed to be the synthesized ester, the starting alcohol must be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Impact Of Technology On The Classroom Reflection Technology helps students in the learning procedure altering the way learning is conveyed. Presently learning has turned into a customized and significant experience that addresses learners issues as contradicted to conventional instructor focused and content based training that places essential accentuation on passing on settled assortments of data and survey students as latent beneficiaries of learning. Henceforth, regardless of their own disparities, inclinations and histories, technology convey individualized substance at the time and place students select (e learning and portable adapting) in this manner, taking so as to expand their learning spaces learning out of the classroom (Domalewska, 2014). I had the opportunity to observe and design a technology checklist to aid in evaluating the technology in the classroom. The technology list brought awareness to the use of technology in a classroom setting. The first class I observed did a great job with following all parts of the technology list. One could indicate that Ms. Lockhart has train her students on the importance and use of technology. I thought her students were attentive and produce effectiveness utilization of technology. In addition, I like how the small group transition flowed truly well with the students. They knew what was expected and delivered. The second class I observed presented the use of technology in a different form. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tissue culture is the technique that involves removal of cells, tissues or organs from the animal or plant and their subsequent placement in to an artificial environment suitable for their growth, which mimic the in vivo environment from which it derived. In culture, cancer cells can grow indefinitely, if they have continuous supply of nutrients and environmental conditions and thus it called immortal , and cells from this tissue called cell line (Skloot,5). One of the important things that revolutionize the medical field was HeLa cell line derived from cervical cancer cells of Henrietta Lacks a black African American woman died at 12:15 a.m. on October 4, 1951(Skloot,86). Dr. Wharton had shaved a dime sized tissue from her cervical tumor and that tissue was given to the Dr. George Gey who was the head of tissue culture research at Johns Hopkins Hospital (Skloot,33). George was a first person who developed the technique to grow HeLa cells form cervical tissue of Henrietta Lacks in his lab and given the name HeLa after the first two initials of Henrietta s first and last names (Skloot,37). In order to determine function of cells and to evaluate certain theory concerning the cause and treatments of disease, cell line needed for that must have immortal property means able to grow indefinitely. • 6. Analysis Of The Movie Wall E Animation is an often under estimated medium, being seen as primarily for kids and cute story s that somewhat lack in substance. But in recent years, companies like Pixar have done a great job of making family movies which contain a strong message. Wall E is one of those movies. The movie takes place in the future, after a point where humanity has pushed the earth to a point beyond vegetation and is currently living aboard a space ship, in which everything they need is done for them, even walking. Despite its bleak premise, the title character, Wall E is a cute, lovable, family friendly robot, who is in many ways more human than what s left of humanity. We are introduced to a world, literally covered in garbage, that Wall E has been sorting through for an unspecified amount of time, diligently doing his job to compact and sort all the debris, left by his human creators. As the film proceeds, we see what a lonely existence Wall E leads until Eve shows up with her unknown directive, eventually becoming a friend to Wall E. As the film proceeds eventually we find that Eve s motivation is to check whether the Earth is capable of vegetation yet, for the humans now aboard the Axiom space station. After following Eve back to Axiom, we find that through generations of over reliance on the machines aboard Axiom, humans have become anti social, over weight, lazy versions of their former selves. At this point, the message of the movie starts to kick in and we begin to see where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Too Much to Bear in The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien Too Much to Bear The things I carry are both figurative and literal. I carry a pen, a pencil, a textbook or two, and paper. I carry memories, experiences, pain, guilt, cowardice, love and happiness. In the novel The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien, O Brien centralizes on why people carry what they do, physical or not. To be honest, I carry what I do because I must. If I don t carry that one textbook that one day, I ll regret it. If I forget what it was like have my first icecream cone, what if felt like the instant my mouth froze up and the inside of my head pounded so loudly I almost screamed, I will be less of who I am today. What I carry defines me. In the novel, the tangible and intangible loads the soldiers carry define them; such as Lt. Cross s who carry s a picture of and intangible feelings for Martha. What the soldiers burdened themselves with was largely determined, emotionally or physically, was by necessity. The tangible objects depicted in the book are especially relevant. The author s style of writing is very elaborate only because he wants the readers to discern sympathy towards the soldiers. The author tells us about the weight of the objects each of the soldiers carry to supplement our overall total lasting impression. O Brien says in the first chapter, he recounts the literal objects each soldier carried. As PFCs or Spec 4s, most of them were common grunts and carried the standard M 16 gas operated assault rifle. This is not a narrow drama that focuses on a few themes; it paints a whole style of life, the good times with the bad, and perhaps no scene is more sad than the one in which the family rents a car and sets off on a picnic, happy and in good spirits, only to have everything go wrong when Jake decides to stop for just one drink. Mamaengaroa Kerr Bell, as Grace, the pretty teenager, is also important to the film; she reflects a hope and optimism that somehow shines even on the family s cloudiest days, and although her runaway boyfriend s hideout under an expressway seems grim, they are able to make it into a refuge where laughter and dreams are possible. Then everything goes bad for them, too. Once Were Warriors has been praised as an attack on domestic violence and abuse. So it is. But I am not sure anyone needs to see this film to discover that such brutality is bad. We know that. If we begin to truly understand people when we are engaged in a conversation, they will notice this and begin to open up even more. Habit 6: Synergize Synergy, by definition, is when the whole is greater than the sum of the parts (Merriam Webster 1997). To synergize is to work closely and cooperate with others to find a creative, non compromising solution that is equally beneficial to all parties. This is very closely related to the think win/win habit. When you communicate synergistically, you are opening your eyes, heart, and mind to new options, ideas, and thoughts. By doing so, you will foster win/win situations, as well as, satisfy habit two, begin with the end in mind, because the end is a win/win situation. By employing habits four through six, Covey says public victory will have been achieved and the paradigm shift from independence to interdependence will have been made. Crusoe s religious beliefs, however, do not remain consistent; in fact, he later uses religion as a justification for murder and other immoral acts. • 22. Masque Of The Red Death Essay The Masque of the Red Death was published in May of 1842 by Edgar Allen Poe. It s clearly an allegorical story, one that can be more narrowly defined as a parable. A parable is defined by Encyclopedia Britannica as a fable like story which uses humans instead of animals, and draws an analogy between a particular instance of human behavior...and human behaviour at large . It s specifically designed to deliver a moral message or lesson, and the one in Masque is that no one can escape death, no matter what artifices are placed to obstruct it. This is interesting, but the real magnificence of the tale is in the literary genre in which Poe tells it, which is the Grotesque. The definition of this term in literature is a bit indistinct, but can be reduced to a couple of key characteristics: The Grotesque fits in between the real and the fantastic, while being simultaneously centered between funny and frightening (The Grotesque). While this is partially true because of the psychological aspects of the piece, it s not entirely accurate as a representation of the entire work. The creation of terror, the juxtaposition of the real and supernatural, the absurdity and almost comical aspects, all the poles of what we understand the grotesque to mean have been solidly touched upon in The Masque of the Red Death. By this time, Chaplin, a vocally political anti fascist, had expressed his dislike for Germany?s Fuhrer and had been working on The Great Dictator since 1937 (Cole, 2001). Despite this, Chaplin was pressured ?either to render the images and message of his film inoffensive to Hitler and Mussolini, which meant eliminating any anti fascist propaganda element, or else to drop the project altogether? from the start of his work on the film (Cole, 2001). Until this point in time, the American cinema had ignored Hitler?s presence and actions, as propaganda films were still slightly looked down upon, due to their misuse during World War I (Cole, 2001). Perhaps another reason for Chaplin?s public dislike of Hitler, was that his wife at the time, Paulette Goddard, was herself Jewish (Brownlow Kloft, 2002). In the film itself, Chaplin shows many events that reflect the reality of late 1930?s Germany including most prominently the treatment of the Jewish people through representations of anti semitic graffiti and an event reminiscent of Kristallnacht. In the early scenes of the Jewish ghetto, the windows all have painted graffiti reading Jew (Sherman, 2002). Yet they were removed in a brutal manner from their homeland, on which they have lived for countless centuries. Without the star producing any fuel, there is no pressure created that can hold the star in place. The pressure that a star creates is used to prevent the gravity from crushing the core. Now that there is no pressure pushing outward, the gravity becomes so violent that it crushes matter to the point that it is completely destroyed. At this point, black holes are born. This movie helped change America s perspective on the male parent. Another theme of the movie is that the male should appreciate his wife and all of her house duties. • 29. Postmodernism And Its Impact On The Western Of The... The emergence of postmodernism in the wake of the manifold carnage and destruction left by World War II (1939 1945), induced a fundamental shift in paradigms of historiography. This is patently evident when assessing the multi faceted impacts of postmodern critiques on the critical variant of the Sonderweg master narrative. An assessment of these impacts will be achieved through a close analysis of three historical works, namely Hans Ulrich Wehler s seminal social history on Imperial Germany 1871 1918 (1973), David Blackbourn and Geoff Eley s neo Marxist The Peculiarities of German History (1984) and Konrad. H. Jarausch and Michael Geyer s Shattered Past: Reconstructing German Histories (2002). Postmodernism s impact manifests in these three works by revealing an inherent tension between the postmodern approach to history and the differing interpretations of the Sonderweg master narrative. This results in a weakening of the Sonderweg thesis validity as its contribution to the historiographical debate surrounding the rise of National Socialism in Germany, is constrained by such critiques and tensions. However, the Sonderweg thesis facilitation of retrospective discussion through amplification of meaning , emphasises a different facet of historical validity . What prevails from this analysis, is that the Sonderweg thesis attempt to explain the rise of National Socialism in Germany; while problematic, has generated prolific historiographical debate and in this respect, ... Of the small amount of conversation which has occurred in front of me, Castro was always described in a negative way. He was described as a cruel, selfish Communist dictator who is against the ideas and beliefs of my own country. For those reasons, I have never bothered educating myself about Castro and his life. Second, after the student graduates from high school, colleges are going to look at their GPA in order for the athletes to qualify for a scholarship whether for athletics or academics (Blake). The difference in genre is mainly due to the plot, the characters, the incoherence and repetitiveness in the conversations and actions which bring the audience to view this play as a complete change from the traditional type of drama. The choice of characters in Waiting for Godot appear to come from a mad house. The main ones, Vladimir and Estragon seem to be struggling in their life where they have little if no memory of how their days passed by, What did we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion, being spiritually dead is like being a living zombie. Talking about spirituality does not only refers to God but to one s belief. One cannot call it life if he is not free of his actions and thinking. The modern man is running against time, trying to make money to buy happiness. He does not have time to question his existence as the definition of one s existence is somehow formed by the society and its surrounding. A typical example will be where people uses religion as excuses for their actions trying to make as if their religion defines themselves. Samuel Beckett play s Waiting for Godot can be referred as pure absurdity but even nowadays people as still waiting for Godot. They are either waiting for God to come on earth as in the Judaism religion where they are still waiting for the messiah to come and take them to the promise land (Isaiah 2: 4) or waiting for Death to come an deliver them from their struggles. Who is Godot? We have no idea of the existence of this thing or person. Same apply to people s faith. As what is faith? Ii is to have trust in something or someone that one s has never seen. But this is what keep people alive, to have faith in the unknown. Man wants freedom and happiness but one cannot find it by doing nothing. • 42. Comparing Women in Lowell’s Patterns and Sorrell’s From a... The Struggle of Women in Lowell s Patterns and Sorrell s From a Correct Address Woman is not born, feminist Andrea Dworkin wrote. She is made. In the making, her humanity is destroyed. She becomes symbol of this, symbol of that: mother of the earth, slut of the universe; but she never becomes herself because it is forbidden for her to do so. Dworkin s quote relates to women throughout history who have been forced to conform. Although women can be regarded highly in society, representing images of fertility, security, and beauty, many people still view them in stereotypical ways; some people believe that all women should act a certain way, never letting their true selves shine through. Amy Lowell s Patterns and Helen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, the author also gives details to show the woman s unhappiness with her life. For example, she writes, The daffodils and squills / Flutter in the breeze / As they please. / And I weep (22 25); these lines imply that, although she can wander in her magnificent garden, objects inside of it cause her to feel grief because she realizes she can never be as free as the flowers. From a Correct Address in a Suburb of a Major City parallels Patterns in the fact that it also gives contrasting details of the woman s life. The first clue that the woman in the poem is wealthy is the title. Since she lives not only in the suburbs, but also at a correct address, the title signifies that the woman s household seems to be proper and wealthy. Another mention of her wealth appears in line four when the author writes, charming, proper at cocktails (4). Attending cocktail parties is not something a low or middle class woman normally does, so the reader infers that the woman lives an upper class life. In contrast to these details, the author gives descriptive details of the woman s unhappiness. For instance, immediately after the line mentioning cocktails, Sorrells describes the woman in the poem as having her inner one raging and wondering how to hide her [inner self] (5 6). These phrases illustrate that, although she lives a financially comfortable life, her inner ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Decision For El Salvador s Supreme Court Throughout the semester, students have learned of the importance of the interplay amongst different levels of actors in international relations politics. These various institutions, governments, groups, and individuals are especially important when considering the issue of human rights. My chosen article, co written by Elisabeth Malkin and Gene Palumbo, describes the landmark decision for El Salvador s Supreme Court to overturn an amnesty law that protected perpetrators of human rights violations. The ruling of the Supreme Court is based on the grounds that the amnesty is unconstitutional due to violating international human rights laws (Malkin, Palumba). This event is particularly important because previous governments ignored these violations that stemmed from civil unrest. The amnesty law was established in 1992 after a civil war of more than 12 years and effectively covers all crimes committed by both sides during the war (Dolliver, Kanavel, Robeck). However, due to its contestable legality both domestically and internationally, El Salvador s Supreme Court decided to rule on the amnesty s law constitutionality for the final time. This article is relevant in the context of increasing global concern over human rights. More recent debates in international relations discuss the importance of the individual over that of states and sovereignty, especially in a society in which national and global boundaries are being transcended and constantly undermined. • 44. Gullivers Supposed English Superiority Essay Gullivers Supposed English Superiority Gulliver s typical Anglocentric Enlightenment views are best exemplified in Chapter 1 of Part IV of Gulliver s Travels. The long paragraph, in which he describes his encounter with the Yahoos as well as the circumstances leading up to it, illustrates the climax of his Anglocentric views, after which his English pride begins to gradually degenerate and his desire to emulate the Houyhnyms arises. His English pride in this paragraph is demonstrated by his resolution to trade his life with the local Savages using Toys as his only means, his judgment of the Yahoo s lack of comprehensive language ability, and his ever present disgust for bodily functions. As the passage opens, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to his sense of Enlightenment superiority, Gulliver does not even entertain the possibility that his life actually is as insignificant as the Toys which he plans on trading for it. Ironically, as his pride degenerates into a hatred for his own race, Gulliver indeed starts to believe in the insignificance of human life. After Gulliver considers his options, he inspects the island and observes a species of animals whom he likens at different points in the paragraph to goats, squirrels, monsters, cattle and beasts. It is no wonder then, that later when Gulliver reveals that these creatures are human beings, that his reader is surprised. He describes their shapes as Singular and deformed....their Skins were of a brown Buff colour. Perhaps one reason Gulliver does not initially see any resemblance between himself and the Yahoos is because they are not white; perhaps his Anglocentric ideal does not permit any color but white to be acknowledged as his equal. What seems certain, however, is the fact that Gulliver feels an immediate antipathy to the Yahoos because they show no indication of having a rational language. In watching them, he does not see them speak to each other and this alienates him because as we see in each voyage, it is imperative to Gulliver that he learn the language of the peoples he encounters, from the Lilliputians to the Brobdingnagians. As with all his journeys, he wants to find inhabitants that he may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Case Study On The Maiden 500kmplus Challenge Since the adventure bug bit on his maiden 500kmPlus challenge in 2015, the 41 year old Capetonian has been testing his mettle cross country and fundraising for local charities. Willie started small his words, not mine when he ran, cycled and paddled a distance of 581km from Mossel Bay to Franschhoek. Funds raised on his first 500kmPlus adventure went to Tin Can Town and assisted impoverished communities in Blikkiesdorp. Next up was the 511km journey along rugged West Coast, which was in aid of pet rescue organisation Fallen Angels. After that came his 646km pedal powered expedition along the dusty R355 from Kleinsee to Ceres. But for endurance athletes like Willie, it s never quite enough, is it? Eager to up the ante on his most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The endurance athlete aimed to cover 100km each day between their sunrise departure and mid to late afternoon arrival at each stayover. Willie typically began each stage with about 20km of running before a 70km cycle and another 10km on foot to the finish. Where there was no pre arranged accommodation, the team relied upon the goodwill of other people often farmers who permitted them to camp on their properties. In some towns, the affiliated charity organisations were able to arrange discounted or free accommodation for the team. Once we arrived at a stop, we would look around for somewhere to stay. If there was nothing available, we would find a farmhouse, knock on the door and ask if we could pitch our tents for the night. We were strangers, but every person we met was so accommodating and trusting of us. Multi stage endurance expeditions of this magnitude demand of athletes immense physical and mental tenacity, no matter how great their preparation. The ultra distances Willie covered repetitively were taxing on his body, mind and gear. He also endured temperatures in the mid 30s which occasionally reached 40 degrees Celsius and threatened dehydration. Conditions were extreme. Heat, wind, dust, rain there was always something working against me. My backside was aching and blistered just three days after leaving Namibia. Lubricant helped for a while, but when that ran out I had to use cooking oil. It was rough. By his own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Andrews, Boyle, Andrews, 2012, p. 92). The focus of my paper is the childbearing practice for the Turkish culture, focusing on pre natal care, birthing practices and customs, and post partum care. Turkey is a country that has a deep rich history that is filled with traditions, customs and superstitions. Superstitions in Turkey apply to all aspects of their life, but have a huge part in pregnancy and child birth. Turks love babies and believe that each life renews hope for the culture and the Turkish family as well. In Turkey, every birth is a source of great joy not only for the parents, but also for relatives, friends and the community. ?Every birth increases the number of family members, and increased number have always meant increased strength? (Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 2015). Although Turkey is in many ways modern and Western, the Islamic tendencies are very strong. The primary religion practiced in Turkey is Muslim so the majority of birth practices are related to beliefs from that religion.
