Neovascular Age-Related Eye Disease Study
The effect of omega 3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid intake (LCPUFA) on neovascular age
related macular degeneration (NV AMD) and central geographic atrophy (CGA) over a 12 year intake
was studied through a prospective cohort study. The cohort was from the Age Related Eye Disease
Study (AREDS), which is a large phase 3 clinical trial that has tested nutrient and vitamin supplement
formulations as prevention methods for AMD. Categories of AMD and risk of progression were
determined by the size and extent of drusen and abnormalities of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE)
in each eye, the evaluation of stereoscopic photographs, and visual acuity (SanGiovanni et al., 2009).
AREDS supported that individuals with the highest intake of ... Show more content on

In the Blue Mountain Eye Study, one serving of fish per week was associated with reduced risk of
early AMD onset among patients with less than the median baseline alpha linoleic acid consumption
(Krishnadev, Meleth, Chew, 2010). In a prospective study of participants in the Nurses Health Study
(NHS) and Health Professionals Study, diets that were high in omega 3 LCPUFAs were inversely
associated with risk of AMD when intake of linoleic acid was low at baseline (Semba, 2007). The
NHS and Health Professionals Follow up Study, consisting of 72,000 participants, indicated that
individuals with the highest DHA intakes are at a reduced risk for AMD. In an intervention trial,
participants with a high intake of DHA showed increased macular pigment optical density (MPOD),
which is an indicator of healthy retinas (Schleicher, Weikel, Garber Taylor, 2013). Data was compiled
from meta analyses, population based cohort studies, and case controlled trials from Medline,
Pubmed, The Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar shows that patients with intermediate risk of
AMD or advanced AMD benefit from omega 3 fatty acids (Sin, Liu Lam, 2013). The effects of lutein,

Flannery O Conner and the use of grotesque character in...
The representation of the grotesque is a characteristic of much 20th century writing (Holman 61).
Almost all of O Connor s short stories usually end in horrendous, freak fatalities or, at the very least, a
character s emotional devastation. People have categorized O Connor s work as Southern Gothic
(Walters 30). In Many of her short stories, A Good Man Is Hard To Find for example, Flannery O
Connor creates grotesque characters to illustrate the evil in people.
Written in 1953, A Good Man Is Hard To Find is one of O Connor s most known pieces of work and
has received many awards. Throughout the story, you come across many twists and turns when you
least expect it. A Good Man Is Hard To Find is a story which includes religion, ... Show more content

O Connor writes in ways that let us know the characters thoughts without really coming out and
telling us. O Connor often changes the mood of the story very quickly from amusement to horror and
vice versa. In her stories, grotesque is often used to tie together the seriousness and the comedic
situations. Flannery O Connor said of her work, the look of the fiction is going to be wild... it is almost
of necessity going to be violent and comic; because of the discrepancies it seeks to combine. (Walters
7).
Many had their own opinions of O Connor s work. The literary works of Flannery O Connor often
contend that religious belief can only be consummated by direct confrontation with evil and for those
uncommitted and unprepared, tragedy seems inevitable. (Cook Online). Many of the early critics
never realized that O Connor s worked with revelation, which at the time, others did not (Reagan
Online). As Frederick Asals once said, Conflict, often violent conflict, is the very center of Flannery O
Connor s fiction (93). Although O Connor s work was awarded greatly, it was also often dismissed
because of its Gothic Violence (Reagan Online). I have to agree with Dorothy Walters when she says,
...nothing is more striking than her remarkable capacity to blend the comic and the serious in a single
view of reality. (13).
O Connor was very successful each

Environmental Pathogenesis In Bovine Mastitis
Streptococcus uberis, depending on the strain (virulent/avirulent), can be a major environmental
pathogen in Bovine mastitis, an inflammation in the udder, mostly in lactating cattle. Symptoms of
Bovine mastitis include protein aggregates in the milk, pain, and swelling of the mammary gland. In
severe cases, Bovine mastitis can cause fever and become fatal. Streptococcus uberis pathogenesis in
Bovine Mastitis Bovine mastitis spreads from the mucus of the digestive tract orally through licking
other cattle or fur fur contact, allowing Streptococcus uberis to adhere on the bovine mammary teat
duct. As mammary gland susceptibility increases, S.uberis enters the mammary epithelial cells by
endocytic like invagination through extracellular matrix ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

culling and decreased milk production. Moreover, various antibiotic uses against bovine mastitis could
form resistant strains of S.uberis which could spread through the food chain and cause zoonotic

The Portrayal of Socially Destructive and Over-Ambitious...
Richard, the main character of the Shakespeare s play, Richard III is portrayed as socially destructive
and politically over ambitious. His destructive potential is depicted by the way he relates with the
other protagonists in the play and also by what he confesses as his intentions. Richard s political
ambition is revealed through his strategic calculations based on the order of birth in his York family
which puts him third away from the throne. Ahead of him is his elder brother, George Clarence, a
barrier which will have to eradicate. His brother, King Edward, is another political barrier, by simply
being alive, in power and equally by being the father of the two young princes . Richard s creates a
political mistrust between his two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whereas the senecan tyrant rages against virtue in the name of ambition, or lust, R.B.Pierce argues
that Richard, like the formal vice, Iniquity (III.i.82), thrives by an ironic detachment from all the
standards of traditional morality including the claims of the family (Robert.B.Pierce, 1971:90 91)
Shakespeare in his play, Richard III, added a physical deformity to incite people to see his plays. A
both deformed and mobile character was found to be a scary monster. To begin with, he invites the
audience to his unhappy life despite the fact that the no one pays attention to him because others
neither find him handsome nor sexually appealing. Richard is not eye catching due to physical
deformity which he vividly describes as the cause of his misfit, and therefore acquires himself the
status of a victim. No one pays attention to him because others neither find him handsome nor
sexually appealing. But he magnetizes the audience, makes them complicit of his own deeds and dares
it to look away. However, as he unfolds his intentions, towards the end of the first soliloquy, the
audience is awestruck at how many sordid deeds he is capable of. We are also rendered helpless for we
cannot warn his potential victims of the danger which awaits them, but we are captives of Richard s

No Reason to Ban Lady Chatterley s Lover by DH Lawrence Essay
Lady Chatterley s Lover, written by DH. Lawrence was first published in 1928. The novel follows
around the protagonist of the story, Lady Constance Chatterley. The story is about how this woman,
who is trapped in a loveless and almost sterile marriage, finds emotional and physical love with the
gameskeeper of her husband s estate. As a story about the relationships between men and women, I
find this book a very nice read, but with Lawrence also using this novel as a way to show his readers
the evils of machines and capitalism, at times I find it lacking. Lawrence has two main themes in this
book; first, the relationship between men, women and how they find love; second, industry vs. nature.
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of complete love is shown through Lady Connie and Mellors relationship. Lawrence shows
through these two how love needs to have emotional and physical aspects to be possible. Writing
about their evolving relationship and showing how both aspects are started and evolve, he gives us the
idea of what he thinks real love is. Lawrence shows how their true love and eventual marriage escapes
class lines and the industrial world the author despises. In one of the more descriptive sex scenes,
Lawrence wants to show that two people who are in real love have no shame. This theme is also used
to try and validate Lawrence s second theme in the book, industry vs. nature. Lady Chatterley s
marriage with Clifford is based in the industrial setting of Wragby mansion. The marriage between
these two characters revolves around this setting and is therefore shown by Lawrence to be a fake
marriage since it is not set in a true natural setting. It is based in an industrial society and therefore
corrupt. On the other side, Lady Connie s relationship with the gameskeeper, Mellors, is started in the
natural setting of the woods surrounding Wragby. As the story ends there is a hope that these two will
be married and it will be a true marriage because it has both the emotional and physical aspects

Ethical Issue And The Ethical Dilemma
Leadership Ethics Introduction In this week s assignment, we have been asked to identify an ethical
issue presented in the Devise Products Unlimited (DPU) case study. First we will discuss the issue and
the ethical dilemma it creates. Next we will look at possible recommendations for the DPU CEO to
handle this issue. The Ethical Issue First, let s start by looking at what the ethical issue that DPU is
facing. The issue that I have chosen to focus on is issue two from the case study: DPU outsources
some of the manufacturing of parts to a Third World country. The DPU CEO recently discovered that
the organization to which he outsources has been forcing laborers to work seven days a week and 10
hours a day. These laborers receive minimal wages, yet without the work their families could starve
and they would be homeless. The organization is the only large employer in the area, and if the DPU
CEO terminated his contract with the organization, it would likely close, leaving hundreds of people
without jobs. Before addressing the factors that are involved in this issue lets discuss some of the
background information surrounding this issue. First what is outsourcing, outsourcing is the practice
of hiring an outside firm or individual to perform contracted work as an alternative to paying
employees to do it (Kokemuller, 2007). Companies use outsourcing based on expertise and cost of
labor advantages. The subject of outsourcing in its self can often time be a much

The Importance Of Christianity In The Byzantine Church Of...
The Byzantine church of Saint George located in Madaba, Jordan, is rather modest but contains a
treasure of early Christianity: a large mosaic map etched on the floor of the church. The map dates
back to sixth century and depicts the places of spiritual importance in the Christian faith. It is no
surprise that the city of Jerusalem is portrayed as the center of the map, representing the significance
of Jerusalem to Christianity. It was in this city that the crucifixion of Jesus mobilized the creation of
the second Abrahamic religion itself. The map illustrates many of the Christian holy buildings in
Jerusalem, including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, a church built on the Western Hill during the
Byzantine period. Space and religion share an intimate connection. Early Judaism focused on the
temple as the site where contact with the divine could be made. However, following the Babylonian
exile, the Israelites were forced to adapt and develop ways to worship away from the temple. They
began performing daily rituals of worship such as the Sabbath and adhering to a special diet. They
eventually came to believe that the presence of their God was not solely bound to the confines of the
Temple in Jerusalem, but rather that his presence was mobile as it had originally been. Thus, over time
the temple was less and less imperative to the religion. By the time Christianity was founded, the
temple remained an important symbol and place of worship, as well as a symbol of the presence and
strength of its religion in Jerusalem. In his essay Space, historian and scholar Thomas Tweed argues
that religious space is kinetic and interrelated, and thus has relations to the political, social, and
economic spheres and is also connected to both the past, the present, and the future. The ideological
religious, topographical, and politico economic transformations associated with the Church of the
Holy Sepulchre embody the interrelated and kinetic nature of the space through their demonstration of
the shift from Eastern Hill to Western Hill, the shift from spiritual faith to an earth centered faith, and
the change in Byzantine imperial policy from Hadrian s Aelia Capitolina to Constantine s Christian
city. The construction of the

Joyce Carol Oates Smooth Talk
Compare and Contrast Essay Short stories don t always translate well into full length movies, but this
movie, Smooth Talk, by Joyce Chopra, is a wonderful work based on the story, Where Are You Going,
Where Have You Been, by Joyce Carol Oates. The movie is very different from the original work,
both have the same storyline, both talk about a teenage girl name Connie. When putting these two
together, while similarity in many ways, but at the same time, they both have differences throughout
the entire story, from what we imagine of the characters to the ending of the story. As in the short
story, the story is more about Connie and Oates only uses a few sentences to describe her family
members, she doesn t provide much detail either. On the other hand, in the movie by Joyce Chopra,
she adds a few scene and even developing further more into the other characters, such as the mother,
father and her older sister, June. The main theme is still about Connie but also about her family. By
doing this, it can create more connection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike Oates leaves the story with an open ended ending, with lots of questions hanging. The story
ends with no other explain, and the ending is up to the reader to decide, which makes the story more
thrilling. On the contrary, the changes Chopra made gives the movie another aspect and a new sense, a
new feeling to it. The new ending solves all the conflict between the mother and Connie when they
finally accept each other. Her sister, June, at the very last scene of the movie, is finally able to sit with
Connie and talks about what has happened. Overall it is a happy ending comparing to the short story
that it s based on. The ending makes it look like the ride with Arnold Friend was just another

Concentration Of MIBK, Ethanol And Water In The Feed And...
In this experiment the concentrations of MIBK, ethanol and water in the Feed, Extract and Raffinate
streams were determined at Steady State, which would then be used with the equilibrium data
provided to calculate the theoretical number of stages required for separation. Once Steady State was
achieved, the components water, ethanol and MIBK reached consistent mole percent (mol%) values of
85.48 %, 13.15 % and 1.37 % respectively for the Extract Stream. Conversely, the Raffinate Stream
was had water, ethanol and MIBK mol% values of 12.84 %, 4.75 % and 82.41 % respectively.
As per the sample calculations in Appendix C, the Karr Reciprocating Plate Column effectively
extracted 90.24 % of the ethanol from the Feed stream into the Extract stream. As was expected, the
agitation aided in the separation process considering more surface area was made available for
interface interaction with smaller droplets.
Calculation of the number of equilibrium stages required, had to be done using a Ternary Diagram
(Figure 4). Equilibrium data was provided that could be plotted (Table A3); however, an average of
the component mol% for the Raffinate, Extract Feed and Solvent streams had to be determined. This
required the conversion the experimental data of the normalized volume percent (vol%) in Table A1
into mol% values, so the data points could be plotted on the Ternary Triangular Diagram. Conversion
from vol% to mol% was done by through consideration of the components respective density and

Internet Law And The Economy Essay
Internet Law and the Economy Introduction

New Economy: Are Rules Irrelevant? by Daniel W. Uhlfelder, Esq. In this article it is discussed how
the new economy of the Internet move forward and enact laws that would be beneficial to all parties

could not cross. The each country and each region uphold and maintain laws and regulations specific
for their purposes. Therefore, jurisdiction is a key issue in order to determine what laws, regulations,

It is now important to know the different laws and develop new laws by which these new relationships
interact. The key is to understand the different laws and how they are used, where and how should
they be enforced and how to protect our interests and the interest of others and how we can use and
develop laws to the best advantage of society. According to Daniel W. Uhlefelder
Security, Internet taxation, electronic signatures, privacy, copyright, minority, small business
development, and contract formation in cyberspace: These are just a few of the important legal issues
members of the new economy are going to face. (Uhlfelder, 2000)
Laws relating to our worldwide commerce are going to be needed to avoid ciaos in our economic
society. If we cannot keep up with these changes, then there may be ill effects to our society and
economy. Federal Trade Commission Chairman Robert Pitofsky reminds us that when enacting laws
we must remember:
Protect the marketplace, and don t undermine the incentives for innovation. And that is what this is
about. The incentives for innovation seem to be very important in this area. On the other hand, you
don t want people taking advantage of the fact that claming that ‘Well, We re high tech. The antitrust
laws don t apply to us. That is not an acceptable defense. (Uhlfelder, 2000)

A Brief Note On Labor And Leisure
Katy Miller Labour and Leisure essay two Women and Labour: The changing roles in our working
society through a lens. It s hard to believe in this day and age with so many opportunities for woman
to become successful in a carer and contribute to the working society that before the First World War
only ninety years ago marriage meant the end of that chance for so many young people. By looking at
both short films and film depictions, I want to show the journey of how the Labour industry has
changed from being a majority lead male dominated working environment with the social status for
woman changing from those who are either unmarried or in poor lower class families in domestic
feminine held jobs, to those of married woman, in a well to do family made to give up chances of
education and carer for themselves, married off to become leisurely ladies of the house and made to
stay home with the children while there husband became the sole earner. Regardless of her social
status, most woman surrendered her rights from the day she married but if on the off chance she was
able to work in one of these domestic arenas such as the textile and clothing industry the jobs would
have been of little satisfaction and that of a low wage. This was to be true of a time in Victorian

Reflection Paper On Babies
BIOL2299 Making Better Babies Reflection Paper
Tram Anh Ngoc Nguyen. NU ID: 001884300
The panel of PBS program Making Better Babies focused greatly on genetic testing in relation to its
scientific and social effects. There were many opposing ideas and concerns coming from different
perspectives such as those of expecting parents, genetic counselor, scientists and genetic disease
sufferers. Coming from Vietnam where technology is more limited, I have learned multiple new
concepts from the arguments made on the show, many of which surprised me.
First I learned the possible risks of establishing a society of Designer babies . According to Oxford
English Dictionary, a designer baby is defined as a baby whose genetic make up has been selected in
order to eradicate a particular defect or to ensure that a particular gene is present (1). As discussed in
the perfect pitch example of moderator John Hockenberry, science will be hypothetically capable of
selecting favorable genetic traits to create a baby to the parents preferences. Parents not only can avoid
genetic abnormalities such as an extra chromosome leading to Down syndrome, but they can also
choose specific alleles for genetic enhancement. This can range from selecting the baby s gender to his
or her hair color. However, The Guardian s The Case for Genetically Engineered Babies addresses
gene editing as harmful to children and damaging to the gene pool. This is because artificial selected
traits may be considered favorable in one generation but not the next (2). In addition, this will all lead
to a society that devalues diversity. Diversity is important in all species because it equips individuals
to meet environmental changes and demands. Decreasing diversity is said to be unethical since it
decreases the survivability of populations (3). Furthermore, a gap in society will be created between
normal babies and designer babies. There will be a greater stigma towards those who suffer from
genetic mutations such as Huntington disease or Dwarfism hence their physical abnormalities are also
accompanied by negative social pressure.
Secondly, the movie also gave me an insight into a parent s perspective and the advantages of genetic
testing. If I was an

Reality versus Illusion in Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? In his play, The American Dream, Edward
Albee unveils a tortured family that is symbolic of the reality beneath the illusion of the American
dream. In Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Albee takes a more traditional approach than the theater of
the absurd, and his language is more natural, but he returns to this theme with a vengeance. For in all
of drama there are few plays about domestic relationships that are as caustic, violent and as poisoned
with the milk of human bitterness, cynicism and pessimism as is Woolf. The story regards George and

Queen Victoria s Impact On The British Queen
Who was Queen Victoria and what impact did she make? Queen Victoria took the British throne at a
young age, she was only a teenager. She became the first british monarch only at the age of 18. She
may have been young but she had great intelligence and that s the reason she took the throne of the
world s mightiest empires. Queen Victoria was the longest reigning British monarch, ruling the United
Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland for 64 years. She was fiercely independent and she strengthened
the monarchy by redefining its role in British life. Victoria s mother (the duchess of Kent) raised
Victoria in an environment where she could prepare her to take the throne. Victoria first learned of her
future role as a young princess during a history lesson when she was 10 years old. She did not allow
her to have any privacy, in fact she even shared a bedroom with her. Victoria became third in the line
of succession to the throne after the duke of York died in 1827. On Tuesday, June 1837 Queen Victoria
was woken by her mother and was told that Archbishop of Canterbury and Lord Conyngham were
there to see her. She was informed that her uncle, the king had passed away. Victoria was informed she
was now queen at the same time delivering the official announcement of the poor King s demise.

How Does Energy Affect Our Safety Through Our National...
Looking for apartments and being on my own for the first time brought to my attention how expensive

While looking through the solutions I came across an intriguing discovery. Over the years energy
efficiency has become an epidemic, whether it affects global warming or protecting the environment,
saving money or improving the economy; conserving energy has a lot more to it than many people
will ever know. Everything we do requires energy. There is heat energy, light energy, mechanical
energy, electrical energy, chemical energy, nuclear energy, and so on. The fact that I was most

As you can see the federal government deals with any crisis that arrives in our country to protect its
citizens. A crisis could occur at any moment in our lives and National Security is here for our
protection. Now that we know what National security is and what it has to do with our everyday lives,
I d like to explain what national security has to do with energy. I mentioned that one of the branches of
our national security is the security of natural resources and energy. By the word energy is meant the
power of doing work; and the energy which a laboring man possesses means, in the strictly physical
sense, the number of units which he is capable of accomplishing, (Stewart, 647). Since man require
such energy to do work, it is important that a group focus solely on energy security. Energy and
natural resources can consist of materials we use in our everyday lives; water, sources of energy such
as the wind and sun, fossil fuel, land, and power. As of 2011, the US has been one of the world s
largest energy consumers (Sovacool). Sovacool also describes energy security as equitably providing
available, affordable, reliable, efficient, environmentally benign, properly governed and socially
acceptable energy services to customers.
We now know that energy security is one of the more important branches of national security, but

Trachea Research Paper
Air from the environment enters through the nasal cavities that are lined with a ciliated mucus
membrane that helps warm, filter, and moisten the air. The air then goes to the pharynx (where oral
and nasal cavity meet) and then down the main airway in the respiratory system or the trachea. The
trachea is made up of tough cartilage rings that keep the passageway open and are also lined with
ciliated mucus membrane that helps remove microscopic particles and bring them back to the pharynx.
The trachea contains the larynx or the voice box that vibrates when air passes over it and the epiglottis
that covers the trachea when you swallow in order to prevent choking. The trachea then branches off
into two bronchi that go to the lungs. The bronchi then extend to smaller passageways called
bronchioles located in the lungs that no longer have cartilage rings. The alveoli are the air sacs

the blood. The carbon dioxide is carried as a bicarbonate ion (CO3) in the blood plasma. These
molecules diffuse out of the blood through the capillaries and are exhaled. When arteries bring blood

The Self Ratings
Pre to Post Self Ratings
On self pre evaluation was a little harsh on myself. I wasn t sure what the leadership role would be
like and I didn t wasn t to set myself up for failure by rating myself at a 5. There were some
dimensions, like Providing Feedback, that I knew I would not be able to get a 5 in. This is because I
knew it would be hard to provide feedback on projects with such a quick turnaround as well as I wasn
t ready to punish group members. One dimension I really tried on was relationship building because I
knew how detrimental this dimension would be if we didn t bond as a group. I really made an effort to
talk to my group member s outside of class time. I think the reason I saw a need to change this was
because I have seen how doing group projects with people you aren t close is not fun, which in the end
hurts the groups motivation to work. Since we would be spending all semester together, I wanted to
make sure we were all comfortable. I have held a few leadership positions while a part of
organizations here on campus. My positions allowed me to truly know where my strengths lie and
what I would need to improve on. Overall, I tried to consistently stick with the strategies I chose and
only adapted when I saw the need to.
Self Ratings Compared to Team Members Ratings

How Did Zen Buddhism Influence Japanese Culture
Zen Buddhism was introduced to Japan in the 12th century, although it became really prevalent during
the 14th century. It accentuated enlightenment through instinct and meditation and as Zen teachings
grew through Japan its influences could also be seen in their culture. Zen principles could be seen in
Japanese art through their themes and method of illustration, and other cultural customs like the
Japanese tea ceremony. The ceremony first started in humbler forms in Zen temples as a symbol of
leaving the world to nurture the mind and spirit. The ceremony involved the ceremonial preparation,
serving, and drinking of tea.
The custom first began in China, but became something more refined in Japan, where it crested in the
Momoyama period. Around the 15th and 16th centuries The Japanese Tea Ceremony offered Japanese
a momentary break from everyday worries. The traditions spread to social groups like wealthy
merchants and the samurai. The samurai would exhibit their prized collections, Chinese objects, like
lacquers (used to decorate wood furniture), paintings, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the ceremonies became more popular, separate teahouses became more customary. The ceremony
involves an arrangement of rituals where the host and guest partake. The host would serve the guests
and also select the utensils for the ceremony like the tea bowls and water jars. The host was also
responsible for deciding the tearoom s decoration which changed depending on the occasion and
season. Tea Masters (people known as master tea ceremony experts) were recognized as having
exceptional artistic sensibilities, advised patrons on the ceremony, and also acquired students. They
oversaw and/or influenced the design of tearooms (within bigger edifices like gardens and interiors),
teahouses, and the design of the tea utensils. Some of the other objects tea masters might create

The World Of The Middle Ages
Since the Middle Ages, Islam has been defined as a distinguishable Other from the European
population, as the Crusades characterized Europe as a distinctly Christian entity warring against the
Muslim identity of the Middle East. Religion has been a divisive force for centuries in these portions
of the world, but the 1905 laïcité law in France established this nation as a secular society, breaking
away from Christianity and promoting the privatization of religion in order to guarantee its free
exercise. 20th century France witnessed waves of immigration in the form of those of Islamic descent,
first with unskilled laborers from Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia coming to work in French factories.
The Algerian War between France and the Algerian National Liberation Front saw a second massive
wave of those with Muslim affiliation, as Algerians who fought with the French Army feared the NLF
s wrath after Algerian independence and migrated to France in its aftermath during the 1960s and
1970s. Today, France is home to between 4 and 5 million Muslims, which is the largest Muslim
population in the continent of Europe, but this presence has done little to alleviate the influence of the
Othering of Muslims in French society. Terrorist attacks committed by extremist Islamic groups in
recent years, such as the Charlie Hebdo killings in January 2015, the Paris suicide bombings of
November 2015, and the truck running over crowds celebrating Bastille Day 2016 in Nice have only

The Role Of Orientalism In The Tragedy Of Mariam
Political tyranny and male female relationships in Elizabeth Cary s The Tragedy of Mariam (1613)
and Mary Pix s Ibrahim, the Thirteenth Emperor of the Turks (1696).
Orientalism has inspired and still does many works, in many ways, be it literary or any other art forms.
Orientalism could be used as a way to express a desire for the exotic, for sensuality, but at the same
time, it could be used in a darker way as well. A persistent image of the Orient is one where women,
even more than in sixteenth century England, were subdued by men, with little freedom for
themselves. On top of that, the other side of the exotic element is that at the same time, the Oriental
cultures were very strange and alien to Europeans, being not entirely equal, and seen as the other .
In Mary Pix s Ibrahim, the Thirteenth Emperor of the Turks for example, tyranny goes hand in hand
with the subduing of women, ultimately resulting in tragedy, in the case of Ibrahim, for the character
Morena, the ideal submissive woman who is forced to submit to the tyrant s desires against her will.
As with many Orientalism themed works, sensuality and eroticism play a significant role in this play,
as the sultan Ibrahim, who is portrayed as the villain, only seems to care about his desire for women.
Such a tyrant, in combination with a submissive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Skin Cell Revelletion
Exfoliation is the key to getting skin that looks fresh, bright, and smooth.
As our skin ages, the rate of skin cell regeneration begins to diminish. The result is a dreary, dull skin
tone. Proper exfoliation is essential to retain a healthy, radiant glow. But, not all forms of exfoliation
are the same, and various skin types will need a personalized approach to exfoliation.
Most people know why it s important to routinely exfoliate skin. However, not everyone does it
properly. The following are a few guidelines to get you on the right path for younger, fresher looking
skin.
1. If Your Skin Is Irritated Or Sensitive, Exfoliating Daily Is Not Necessary

Immediately after using a washcloth, generously apply a thick moisturizer to soothe, replenish and
hydrate your skin.
People with overly sensitive skin should avoid excessive scrubbing, which can result in undue
irritation. Prior to applying a clay based or exfoliating glycolic mask to your entire face, apply the
product to a small area on your face to test for any irritation or skin sensitivities.
2. Exfoliating Gloves
Exfoliating gloves were created to use with or without exfoliate scrubs, and the majority of them are
great to use on any part of your body. They are particularly useful for exfoliating your legs, as well as
other larger areas of your skin where using a washcloth or small sponge may take too much time.
Simply apply the cleanser to the gloves and gently begin to scrub the area of your skin you wish to
exfoliate. Completely rinse the gloves after you are finished and let them air dry naturally.

God Of Small Things Character Analysis
The God of Small Things is a debut novel of Arundhati Roy. It is a story about the childhood
experiences of fraternal twins. Their lives are destroyed by the Love Laws that lay down who should
be loved, and how. And how much . (1998: 168) The novel explores how the small things affect
people s behaviour and their lives. It is the history through hear say of a family of Syrian Christians in
Kerala. It looks at everything in the spirit of comedy. There is a lot of a devastatingly, sardonically,
satirical attitude in it. The novel begins with the presentation of the ancestor Punniyan Kunju who, in
1876, had been taken by his father to see the Patriarch at Cochin.
The story of the novel The God of Small Things is set in Ayemenem, now part of Kottayam district in
Kerala, India. The temporal setting shifts back and forth between 1969, when fraternal twins Rahel
and Esthappen are seven years old, and 1993, when the twins are reunited at the age of 31. Malayalam
words are liberally used in conjunction with English. Facets of Kerala life captured by the novel are
Communism, the caste system, and the Keralite Syrian Christian way of life. Roy ends her
postcolonial novel by suggesting how much theoretical, social, cultural, political and historical
knowledge is involved in her portrayal of the characters Ammu, Estha and Rahel and their learning to
experience in Kerala. Their changing relationship with Velutha is based on an understanding of the
brutality of caste, the love laws,

Abstract Wound healing after injury is a vital process. Defective cutaneous wound healing is of major
clinical importance as it may lead to serious complications like necrosis and septicaemia. Chronic

It has an important role in controlling fluid loss from the body, regulation of body temperature and
protection against microorganisms or other external influences (Nestle et al., 2009). The skin
comprises three distinct histological layers which are: Epidermis, Dermis and the subcutaneous layer
of adipose tissue (Kanitakis, 2002). The epidermis is the external layer of the skin, mainly composed
of keratinized stratified squamous epithelial. Epidermis is made up of keratinocytes (90%);
melanocytes (8%) and the other (2%) represent Langerhans cells, Merkel cells and immunologically
active cells derived from bone marrow (Kolarsick et al., 2011). Next to the epidermis is the dermis,
which is composed of connective tissues (collagen and elastic fibres), blood vessels, sensory nerve

dermal dendritic cells, fibroblasts, mast cells and macrophages. The dermis provides nutrition and

to regulate body temperature in addition to its involvement in sensory and protective functions (James

The Outlaws In The Adventures Of Robin Hood
this group was renowned throughout England because they were chivalrous outlaws that stole from

were considered outlaws because the Normans forcefully took over England and made the Saxons pay
for everything they wanted no matter how poor it made their living so Robin started the band to rebel
against what was wrong. Robin and his Merry Men all were very chivalrous even though they were
considered outlaws they followed many of the rules of a knight including Defending the weak, to
protect women and children, and granting mercy to their enemies. The first honorable trait of a knight
was the act of defending the weak and the helpless. This could be seen in the movie when Robin
protects Much. This scene occurred when Much shoots a deer and Sir Guy tries to arrest him then
Robin comes in and holds Sir Guy at arrow point unless he leaves. Sir Guy then leaves and Much
joins his group due to a stranger defending him because alone he was weak and helpless. The next
example in the film was when Robin was showing Marian what the Normans did to the Saxons which

Anthony Mangeri s Improper Communication Analysis
There is no industry in the world that relies on proper messaging more than law enforcement. For
local governments, there is an acute need to control the flow of information to the community and the

Times of Crisis, (Mangeri, 2016) Anthony Mangeri outlines why planning for a crisis must include the
ability of a Public Information Officer (PIO) to collect, package and be able to disseminate

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Anxiety Disorder
It s safe to say that everyone gets the feeling of being worried or panicked at one time or another
during their lifetime. Those feelings are extremely common and natural and for most people they will
pass. If a person has these feelings and the feelings don t pass, then it s time to talk to a doctor about
possibly having a type of anxiety disorder.
There are seven types of anxiety disorder and they include generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety,
separation anxiety, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attacks, and post traumatic stress
disorder (Foa, Edna Andrews, Linda Wasmer, 2006). Generalized anxiety disorder occurs when a
person has an excessive or obsessive feeling of being worried and the feeling just won t go away. A lot
of times this happens when the person is thinking about something in the future that is going to
happen (Van Duyne, Sara, 2003). Maybe the person has a huge paper or test coming up at school, they
are getting married or having a baby, starting a new job, or even getting ready to go to their first day at
school. To diagnose a person with an anxiety disorder, the doctor should first look at the patient s
signs and symptoms.
There are quite a few different signs and symptoms a person can acquire when they have a generalized
anxiety disorder. They can experience fatigue, muscle tension, shaking of the hands, extreme
perspiring, restlessness, headaches, nausea, and an increase in their heartbeat (Mayo Clinic Staff,
2014). For

juvenile delinquency after dropping out from school [2]. Juveniles who go to school consistently and
have a strong academic performance, ideally go on to college and have a successful career and bright

Pangloss In Candide
Candide by Voltaire is a satirical work in which the author comments on religious and philosophical
beliefs in his day. Voltaire s irreverent narrative found within this book is very telling of his own
philosophical convictions. The main topic under scrutiny in this work is Leibniz s theory of the best of
all possible worlds. In this paper, I will seek to analyze the story of Candide, and more specifically the
character Pangloss, and in doing so examine Voltaire s commentary on the best of all possible worlds.
It seems that the main topic of Voltaire s critique is the Leibniz theory which states that the world we
live in is the best of all possible worlds. This theory is both explained and defended by the character
Pangloss. Pangloss is the tutor of the protagonist, Candide. Early on, Pangloss is identified as a
teacher of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The character Pangloss undergoes horrific misfortunes all of which contradict his optimistic
convictions. For instance, Candide escapes from the Bulgars who held him captive and makes his way
in search of his beloved, Cunegonde. As he goes into town, Candide is dejected by a preacher whose
wife emptied over his head a pot full of... . At this point, Candide is exiled from his home, taken by
Bulgars, separated from his beloved, denied nourishment, and literally covered in feces. And yet,
when a man offers him some food, Candide exclaims: my tutor Pangloss was quite right,... when he
told me that all is for the best in this world of ours. Immediately thereafter, Candide sees a beggar
covered with sores. His eyes were lifeless, the end of his nose had rotted away, his mouth was all
askew and his teeth were black. His voice was sepulchral, and a violent cough tormented him, at every
bout of which he spat out a tooth. (28) This pathetic character is none other than the perpetual optimist

Magic In The Middle Ages
In the introduction of the book Magic in the Middle Ages chapter, one emphasizes the definition of
magic. During the medieval era, Europeans believed that there were two types of magic, which were
called natural and demonic. As natural magic was considered to have a correlation with science as the
Wolfsthurn handbook illustrated the usage of a combination of herbs and magic in conjunction. For
example, using herbs to treat an illness with the addition of reciting specific words was deemed as
natural magic. On the other hand, demonic magic was not thought to be a form of science but was a
perverted depiction of religion. That demonic magic s power source was from demons and that words
that could not be interpreted were thought to be demon names. In addition, treatments that involved
animal skin from the Wolfsthurn book would be considered demonic magic as it was suggested that it
was a ceremonial sacrifice to demons.

As the Romans believed that people that suffered violent deaths were described to possess
supernatural power. The Romans would often attempt to summon the spirit of these individuals
through the practice of necromancy in order to obtain their power. Christians were accused of using
magic as well since they viewed Jesus Christ as a transcendent being that was all powerful.
Consequently, since Jesus Christ had a gruesome death the Roman asserted that Christianity s
followers were conducting magic by worshiping Jesus Christ since he had a terrible death. Moreover,
the lecture on Medieval European Conceptualizations of Magic and Witchcraft focused on defining
what magic is. As Christianity deemed that magic wasn t associated with the true religion that it
spawned from demons. That magic summoned supernatural powers to commit malicious deeds, while

Piece Of Ground
Do We Need to Hear Both Sides of a Story? Hearing or not hearing both sides of a story can cause
major impact on reader s perspectives and opinions. It can be the source of misunderstanding and false
information about the situation of a story. It can also be the main cause of controversy, especially on
topics that many people have strong opinions on and are passionate about. This is why it is essential to
hear both sides of a story to understand the situation. This is because; if people with strong opinions
on a topic read a one sided story, it could result in major controversy. For example, Elizabeth Laird s
book A Little Piece of Ground caused worldwide argument as it is set in Palestine, talking about the
Palestinian Israeli conflict. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While reading A Little Piece of Ground , I found myself almost immediately agreeing with and being
on the Palestinians side because of the perspective of the book. It was only until I heard an interview
talking about this perspective that I started opposing the book and thinking about other perspectives. It
is, at the least, dishonest to portray a political conflict in totally unpolitical terms, particularly when it
s written for kids who can t be assumed to know what the political context is (National Public Radio,
2018). As mentioned earlier, because the book targets readers aged ~12 14, the book entices most of
its audience to one perspective without the audience even knowing. After finding this out, I felt tricked
and it made me wonder if some of the events in the book were even similar to what happens in real
life. However, it is lucky that this was brought to my attention, as if it were not, I would still believe
that the Israelis were uncaring, killing

What Is The Theme Of A Retrieved Reformation By O Henry
The intriguing short story, A Retrieved Reformation written by O. Henry speaks the story of a man
who is trying to turn his life around. Starting in prison by the name of Jimmy Valentine, he creates a
vile reputation for himself as a villainous criminal. This reputation follows him all through his life but,
when he sees a glimpse of being able to have a perfect life he snatches it up. After meeting the alluring
Ms.Annabel, Jimmy changes his name to Ralph Spencer and commences a different life, but showing
his true background could mess everything up. One theme this story suggests is that love can alter a
person s life. The belief in someone that they can accomplish something great is an act of love. One
example of this is when Ralph gets released from prison. The warden bestows upon Ralph helpful
advice for his life. You ll go out in the morning. Brace up, and make a man of yourself. You re not a
bad fellow at heart. Stop cracking safes and live straight. This is significant because it reveals that
even the people who had known Ralph as a criminal still believe that he is capable of changing his life
for the better. Also, knowing that people believe in him can make it easier for him to leave his life of
crime behind. Not only is support from others motivation for change, but having an epiphany brings in
a whole new light. Ralph decides to write Ben, an old friend of Ralph s who had only known him as a
criminal, to tell him about how wonderful his new life had

Reflective Teaching Essay
The importance of reflective teaching Be a reflective teacher. Honestly look at what you do from time
to time. Evaluate the purpose of your role as a teacher. (Robert John Meenham, 2011) There is a usual
but important cliché for a teacher´s career: a teacher has to be a life long learner to be an effective
teacher. Research on effective teaching over the past two decades has proved that effective practice is
related to questioning, reflection and continuous professional development. Reflective practice can be
a satisfying experience for a teacher evolution. It covers self analysis, questioning one owns methods,
assumptions about learning, theories as well as one´s attitudes and behaviour as a facilitator and
communicator, in short making a deep analysis of the actions. Reflecting on teaching includes the
teacher´s thoughts on the successfulness of the lesson planning and the implementation used to teach.
Within the time progression the teacher´s reflection should be more precise and he or she could ...

Making brief notes after the lecture, or making a short list on impressions could be valuable for any
teacher. Sharing is also a great strategy, sharing with other teachers, the school staff or even the
students can be of great use; reflective practice works best when it is shared. Completing some ideas
on a structured piece of paper, even a chart with good and bad points or ideas to implement or discard
can be beneficial. Another plan can be looking for ideas in books, consulting different resources, and
implementing peer learning group to discuss teaching issues; thus the practitioner s theoretical
background would be deeply improved. There are far more other strategies to enhance the teacher´s
work, the mentioned ones could be considered the tip of the iceberg, each educator has the
responsibility to find its own strategies if he or she wants to be the best teacher as he or she can

  • 2. Neovascular Age-Related Eye Disease Study The effect of omega 3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid intake (LCPUFA) on neovascular age related macular degeneration (NV AMD) and central geographic atrophy (CGA) over a 12 year intake was studied through a prospective cohort study. The cohort was from the Age Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS), which is a large phase 3 clinical trial that has tested nutrient and vitamin supplement formulations as prevention methods for AMD. Categories of AMD and risk of progression were determined by the size and extent of drusen and abnormalities of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) in each eye, the evaluation of stereoscopic photographs, and visual acuity (SanGiovanni et al., 2009). AREDS supported that individuals with the highest intake of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Blue Mountain Eye Study, one serving of fish per week was associated with reduced risk of early AMD onset among patients with less than the median baseline alpha linoleic acid consumption (Krishnadev, Meleth, Chew, 2010). In a prospective study of participants in the Nurses Health Study (NHS) and Health Professionals Study, diets that were high in omega 3 LCPUFAs were inversely associated with risk of AMD when intake of linoleic acid was low at baseline (Semba, 2007). The NHS and Health Professionals Follow up Study, consisting of 72,000 participants, indicated that individuals with the highest DHA intakes are at a reduced risk for AMD. In an intervention trial, participants with a high intake of DHA showed increased macular pigment optical density (MPOD), which is an indicator of healthy retinas (Schleicher, Weikel, Garber Taylor, 2013). Data was compiled from meta analyses, population based cohort studies, and case controlled trials from Medline, Pubmed, The Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar shows that patients with intermediate risk of AMD or advanced AMD benefit from omega 3 fatty acids (Sin, Liu Lam, 2013). • 3. Flannery O Conner and the use of grotesque character in... The representation of the grotesque is a characteristic of much 20th century writing (Holman 61). Almost all of O Connor s short stories usually end in horrendous, freak fatalities or, at the very least, a character s emotional devastation. People have categorized O Connor s work as Southern Gothic (Walters 30). In Many of her short stories, A Good Man Is Hard To Find for example, Flannery O Connor creates grotesque characters to illustrate the evil in people. Written in 1953, A Good Man Is Hard To Find is one of O Connor s most known pieces of work and has received many awards. Throughout the story, you come across many twists and turns when you least expect it. A Good Man Is Hard To Find is a story which includes religion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... O Connor writes in ways that let us know the characters thoughts without really coming out and telling us. O Connor often changes the mood of the story very quickly from amusement to horror and vice versa. In her stories, grotesque is often used to tie together the seriousness and the comedic situations. Flannery O Connor said of her work, the look of the fiction is going to be wild... it is almost of necessity going to be violent and comic; because of the discrepancies it seeks to combine. (Walters 7). Many had their own opinions of O Connor s work. The literary works of Flannery O Connor often contend that religious belief can only be consummated by direct confrontation with evil and for those uncommitted and unprepared, tragedy seems inevitable. (Cook Online). Many of the early critics never realized that O Connor s worked with revelation, which at the time, others did not (Reagan Online). As Frederick Asals once said, Conflict, often violent conflict, is the very center of Flannery O Connor s fiction (93). Although O Connor s work was awarded greatly, it was also often dismissed because of its Gothic Violence (Reagan Online). I have to agree with Dorothy Walters when she says, ...nothing is more striking than her remarkable capacity to blend the comic and the serious in a single view of reality. (13). • 5. The Portrayal of Socially Destructive and Over-Ambitious... Richard, the main character of the Shakespeare s play, Richard III is portrayed as socially destructive and politically over ambitious. His destructive potential is depicted by the way he relates with the other protagonists in the play and also by what he confesses as his intentions. Richard s political ambition is revealed through his strategic calculations based on the order of birth in his York family which puts him third away from the throne. Ahead of him is his elder brother, George Clarence, a barrier which will have to eradicate. A both deformed and mobile character was found to be a scary monster. To begin with, he invites the audience to his unhappy life despite the fact that the no one pays attention to him because others neither find him handsome nor sexually appealing. Richard is not eye catching due to physical deformity which he vividly describes as the cause of his misfit, and therefore acquires himself the status of a victim. No one pays attention to him because others neither find him handsome nor sexually appealing. But he magnetizes the audience, makes them complicit of his own deeds and dares it to look away. However, as he unfolds his intentions, towards the end of the first soliloquy, the audience is awestruck at how many sordid deeds he is capable of. • 6. No Reason to Ban Lady Chatterley s Lover by DH Lawrence Essay Lady Chatterley s Lover, written by DH. Lawrence was first published in 1928. The novel follows around the protagonist of the story, Lady Constance Chatterley. The story is about how this woman, who is trapped in a loveless and almost sterile marriage, finds emotional and physical love with the gameskeeper of her husband s estate. As a story about the relationships between men and women, I find this book a very nice read, but with Lawrence also using this novel as a way to show his readers the evils of machines and capitalism, at times I find it lacking. Lawrence has two main themes in this book; first, the relationship between men, women and how they find love; second, industry vs. nature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea of complete love is shown through Lady Connie and Mellors relationship. Lawrence shows through these two how love needs to have emotional and physical aspects to be possible. Writing about their evolving relationship and showing how both aspects are started and evolve, he gives us the idea of what he thinks real love is. Lawrence shows how their true love and eventual marriage escapes class lines and the industrial world the author despises. In one of the more descriptive sex scenes, Lawrence wants to show that two people who are in real love have no shame. This theme is also used to try and validate Lawrence s second theme in the book, industry vs. nature. Lady Chatterley s marriage with Clifford is based in the industrial setting of Wragby mansion. The marriage between these two characters revolves around this setting and is therefore shown by Lawrence to be a fake marriage since it is not set in a true natural setting. It is based in an industrial society and therefore corrupt. On the other side, Lady Connie s relationship with the gameskeeper, Mellors, is started in the natural setting of the woods surrounding Wragby. As the story ends there is a hope that these two will be married and it will be a true marriage because it has both the emotional and physical aspects ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Ethical Issue And The Ethical Dilemma Leadership Ethics Introduction In this week s assignment, we have been asked to identify an ethical issue presented in the Devise Products Unlimited (DPU) case study. First we will discuss the issue and the ethical dilemma it creates. Next we will look at possible recommendations for the DPU CEO to handle this issue. The Ethical Issue First, let s start by looking at what the ethical issue that DPU is facing. The issue that I have chosen to focus on is issue two from the case study: DPU outsources some of the manufacturing of parts to a Third World country. The DPU CEO recently discovered that the organization to which he outsources has been forcing laborers to work seven days a week and 10 hours a day. These laborers receive minimal wages, yet without the work their families could starve and they would be homeless. The organization is the only large employer in the area, and if the DPU CEO terminated his contract with the organization, it would likely close, leaving hundreds of people without jobs. Before addressing the factors that are involved in this issue lets discuss some of the background information surrounding this issue. First what is outsourcing, outsourcing is the practice of hiring an outside firm or individual to perform contracted work as an alternative to paying employees to do it (Kokemuller, 2007). Companies use outsourcing based on expertise and cost of labor advantages. The subject of outsourcing in its self can often time be a much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Importance Of Christianity In The Byzantine Church Of... The Byzantine church of Saint George located in Madaba, Jordan, is rather modest but contains a treasure of early Christianity: a large mosaic map etched on the floor of the church. The map dates back to sixth century and depicts the places of spiritual importance in the Christian faith. It is no surprise that the city of Jerusalem is portrayed as the center of the map, representing the significance of Jerusalem to Christianity. It was in this city that the crucifixion of Jesus mobilized the creation of the second Abrahamic religion itself. The map illustrates many of the Christian holy buildings in Jerusalem, including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, a church built on the Western Hill during the Byzantine period. Space and religion share an intimate connection. Early Judaism focused on the temple as the site where contact with the divine could be made. However, following the Babylonian exile, the Israelites were forced to adapt and develop ways to worship away from the temple. They began performing daily rituals of worship such as the Sabbath and adhering to a special diet. They eventually came to believe that the presence of their God was not solely bound to the confines of the Temple in Jerusalem, but rather that his presence was mobile as it had originally been. Thus, over time the temple was less and less imperative to the religion. By the time Christianity was founded, the temple remained an important symbol and place of worship, as well as a symbol of the presence and strength of its religion in Jerusalem. In his essay Space, historian and scholar Thomas Tweed argues that religious space is kinetic and interrelated, and thus has relations to the political, social, and economic spheres and is also connected to both the past, the present, and the future. The ideological religious, topographical, and politico economic transformations associated with the Church of the Holy Sepulchre embody the interrelated and kinetic nature of the space through their demonstration of the shift from Eastern Hill to Western Hill, the shift from spiritual faith to an earth centered faith, and the change in Byzantine imperial policy from Hadrian s Aelia Capitolina to Constantine s Christian city. Joyce Carol Oates Smooth Talk Compare and Contrast Essay Short stories don t always translate well into full length movies, but this movie, Smooth Talk, by Joyce Chopra, is a wonderful work based on the story, Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been, by Joyce Carol Oates. The movie is very different from the original work, both have the same storyline, both talk about a teenage girl name Connie. When putting these two together, while similarity in many ways, but at the same time, they both have differences throughout the entire story, from what we imagine of the characters to the ending of the story. As in the short story, the story is more about Connie and Oates only uses a few sentences to describe her family members, she doesn t provide much detail either. On the other hand, in the movie by Joyce Chopra, she adds a few scene and even developing further more into the other characters, such as the mother, father and her older sister, June. The new ending solves all the conflict between the mother and Connie when they finally accept each other. In this experiment the concentrations of MIBK, ethanol and water in the Feed, Extract and Raffinate streams were determined at Steady State, which would then be used with the equilibrium data provided to calculate the theoretical number of stages required for separation. Once Steady State was achieved, the components water, ethanol and MIBK reached consistent mole percent (mol%) values of 85.48 %, 13.15 % and 1.37 % respectively for the Extract Stream. Conversely, the Raffinate Stream was had water, ethanol and MIBK mol% values of 12.84 %, 4.75 % and 82.41 % respectively. As per the sample calculations in Appendix C, the Karr Reciprocating Plate Column effectively extracted 90.24 % of the ethanol from the Feed stream into the Extract stream. As was expected, the agitation aided in the separation process considering more surface area was made available for interface interaction with smaller droplets. Calculation of the number of equilibrium stages required, had to be done using a Ternary Diagram (Figure 4). Equilibrium data was provided that could be plotted (Table A3); however, an average of the component mol% for the Raffinate, Extract Feed and Solvent streams had to be determined. This required the conversion the experimental data of the normalized volume percent (vol%) in Table A1 into mol% values, so the data points could be plotted on the Ternary Triangular Diagram. Conversion from vol% to mol% was done by through consideration of the components respective density and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Daniel W. Uhlefelder Security, Internet taxation, electronic signatures, privacy, copyright, minority, small business development, and contract formation in cyberspace: These are just a few of the important legal issues members of the new economy are going to face. • 13. A Brief Note On Labor And Leisure Katy Miller Labour and Leisure essay two Women and Labour: The changing roles in our working society through a lens. It s hard to believe in this day and age with so many opportunities for woman to become successful in a carer and contribute to the working society that before the First World War only ninety years ago marriage meant the end of that chance for so many young people. By looking at both short films and film depictions, I want to show the journey of how the Labour industry has changed from being a majority lead male dominated working environment with the social status for woman changing from those who are either unmarried or in poor lower class families in domestic feminine held jobs, to those of married woman, in a well to do family made to give up chances of education and carer for themselves, married off to become leisurely ladies of the house and made to stay home with the children while there husband became the sole earner. Regardless of her social status, most woman surrendered her rights from the day she married but if on the off chance she was able to work in one of these domestic arenas such as the textile and clothing industry the jobs would have been of little satisfaction and that of a low wage. • 14. Reflection Paper On Babies BIOL2299 Making Better Babies Reflection Paper Tram Anh Ngoc Nguyen. NU ID: 001884300 The panel of PBS program Making Better Babies focused greatly on genetic testing in relation to its scientific and social effects. There were many opposing ideas and concerns coming from different perspectives such as those of expecting parents, genetic counselor, scientists and genetic disease sufferers. Coming from Vietnam where technology is more limited, I have learned multiple new concepts from the arguments made on the show, many of which surprised me. First I learned the possible risks of establishing a society of Designer babies . According to Oxford English Dictionary, a designer baby is defined as a baby whose genetic make up has been selected in order to eradicate a particular defect or to ensure that a particular gene is present (1). As discussed in the perfect pitch example of moderator John Hockenberry, science will be hypothetically capable of selecting favorable genetic traits to create a baby to the parents preferences. Parents not only can avoid genetic abnormalities such as an extra chromosome leading to Down syndrome, but they can also choose specific alleles for genetic enhancement. This can range from selecting the baby s gender to his or her hair color. However, The Guardian s The Case for Genetically Engineered Babies addresses gene editing as harmful to children and damaging to the gene pool. This is because artificial selected traits may be considered favorable in one generation but not the next (2). In addition, this will all lead to a society that devalues diversity. Diversity is important in all species because it equips individuals to meet environmental changes and demands. Decreasing diversity is said to be unethical since it decreases the survivability of populations (3). Furthermore, a gap in society will be created between normal babies and designer babies. There will be a greater stigma towards those who suffer from genetic mutations such as Huntington disease or Dwarfism hence their physical abnormalities are also accompanied by negative social pressure. Secondly, the movie also gave me an insight into a parent s perspective and the advantages of genetic testing. If I was an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his play, The American Dream, Edward Albee unveils a tortured family that is symbolic of the reality beneath the illusion of the American dream. In Who s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Albee takes a more traditional approach than the theater of the absurd, and his language is more natural, but he returns to this theme with a vengeance. For in all of drama there are few plays about domestic relationships that are as caustic, violent and as poisoned with the milk of human bitterness, cynicism and pessimism as is Woolf. • 17. Queen Victoria s Impact On The British Queen Who was Queen Victoria and what impact did she make? Queen Victoria took the British throne at a young age, she was only a teenager. She became the first british monarch only at the age of 18. She may have been young but she had great intelligence and that s the reason she took the throne of the world s mightiest empires. Queen Victoria was the longest reigning British monarch, ruling the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland for 64 years. She was fiercely independent and she strengthened the monarchy by redefining its role in British life. Victoria s mother (the duchess of Kent) raised Victoria in an environment where she could prepare her to take the throne. Victoria first learned of her future role as a young princess during a history lesson when she was 10 years old. She did not allow her to have any privacy, in fact she even shared a bedroom with her. Victoria became third in the line of succession to the throne after the duke of York died in 1827. I was determined to research a way to save on energy and cut down my bills. While looking through the solutions I came across an intriguing discovery. Over the years energy efficiency has become an epidemic, whether it affects global warming or protecting the environment, saving money or improving the economy; conserving energy has a lot more to it than many people will ever know. A crisis could occur at any moment in our lives and National Security is here for our protection. Now that we know what National security is and what it has to do with our everyday lives, I d like to explain what national security has to do with energy. I mentioned that one of the branches of our national security is the security of natural resources and energy. By the word energy is meant the power of doing work; and the energy which a laboring man possesses means, in the strictly physical sense, the number of units which he is capable of accomplishing, (Stewart, 647). Since man require such energy to do work, it is important that a group focus solely on energy security. Energy and natural resources can consist of materials we use in our everyday lives; water, sources of energy such as the wind and sun, fossil fuel, land, and power. As of 2011, the US has been one of the world s largest energy consumers (Sovacool). Sovacool also describes energy security as equitably providing available, affordable, reliable, efficient, environmentally benign, properly governed and socially acceptable energy services to customers. • 20. Trachea Research Paper Air from the environment enters through the nasal cavities that are lined with a ciliated mucus membrane that helps warm, filter, and moisten the air. The air then goes to the pharynx (where oral and nasal cavity meet) and then down the main airway in the respiratory system or the trachea. The trachea is made up of tough cartilage rings that keep the passageway open and are also lined with ciliated mucus membrane that helps remove microscopic particles and bring them back to the pharynx. The trachea contains the larynx or the voice box that vibrates when air passes over it and the epiglottis that covers the trachea when you swallow in order to prevent choking. The trachea then branches off into two bronchi that go to the lungs. The bronchi then extend to smaller passageways called bronchioles located in the lungs that no longer have cartilage rings. It accentuated enlightenment through instinct and meditation and as Zen teachings grew through Japan its influences could also be seen in their culture. Zen principles could be seen in Japanese art through their themes and method of illustration, and other cultural customs like the Japanese tea ceremony. The ceremony first started in humbler forms in Zen temples as a symbol of leaving the world to nurture the mind and spirit. The ceremony involved the ceremonial preparation, serving, and drinking of tea. The custom first began in China, but became something more refined in Japan, where it crested in the Momoyama period. Around the 15th and 16th centuries The Japanese Tea Ceremony offered Japanese a momentary break from everyday worries. The traditions spread to social groups like wealthy merchants and the samurai. The World Of The Middle Ages Since the Middle Ages, Islam has been defined as a distinguishable Other from the European population, as the Crusades characterized Europe as a distinctly Christian entity warring against the Muslim identity of the Middle East. Religion has been a divisive force for centuries in these portions of the world, but the 1905 laïcité law in France established this nation as a secular society, breaking away from Christianity and promoting the privatization of religion in order to guarantee its free exercise. 20th century France witnessed waves of immigration in the form of those of Islamic descent, first with unskilled laborers from Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia coming to work in French factories. The Algerian War between France and the Algerian National Liberation Front saw a second massive wave of those with Muslim affiliation, as Algerians who fought with the French Army feared the NLF s wrath after Algerian independence and migrated to France in its aftermath during the 1960s and 1970s. Today, France is home to between 4 and 5 million Muslims, which is the largest Muslim population in the continent of Europe, but this presence has done little to alleviate the influence of the Othering of Muslims in French society. The Role Of Orientalism In The Tragedy Of Mariam Political tyranny and male female relationships in Elizabeth Cary s The Tragedy of Mariam (1613) and Mary Pix s Ibrahim, the Thirteenth Emperor of the Turks (1696). Orientalism has inspired and still does many works, in many ways, be it literary or any other art forms. Orientalism could be used as a way to express a desire for the exotic, for sensuality, but at the same time, it could be used in a darker way as well. A persistent image of the Orient is one where women, even more than in sixteenth century England, were subdued by men, with little freedom for themselves. On top of that, the other side of the exotic element is that at the same time, the Oriental cultures were very strange and alien to Europeans, being not entirely equal, and seen as the other . In Mary Pix s Ibrahim, the Thirteenth Emperor of the Turks for example, tyranny goes hand in hand with the subduing of women, ultimately resulting in tragedy, in the case of Ibrahim, for the character Morena, the ideal submissive woman who is forced to submit to the tyrant s desires against her will. As with many Orientalism themed works, sensuality and eroticism play a significant role in this play, as the sultan Ibrahim, who is portrayed as the villain, only seems to care about his desire for women. Those feelings are extremely common and natural and for most people they will pass. If a person has these feelings and the feelings don t pass, then it s time to talk to a doctor about possibly having a type of anxiety disorder. There are seven types of anxiety disorder and they include generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, separation anxiety, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attacks, and post traumatic stress disorder (Foa, Edna Andrews, Linda Wasmer, 2006). Generalized anxiety disorder occurs when a person has an excessive or obsessive feeling of being worried and the feeling just won t go away. A lot of times this happens when the person is thinking about something in the future that is going to happen (Van Duyne, Sara, 2003). Maybe the person has a huge paper or test coming up at school, they are getting married or having a baby, starting a new job, or even getting ready to go to their first day at school. Voltaire s irreverent narrative found within this book is very telling of his own philosophical convictions. In this paper, I will seek to analyze the story of Candide, and more specifically the character Pangloss, and in doing so examine Voltaire s commentary on the best of all possible worlds. • 43. Magic In The Middle Ages In the introduction of the book Magic in the Middle Ages chapter, one emphasizes the definition of magic. During the medieval era, Europeans believed that there were two types of magic, which were called natural and demonic. As natural magic was considered to have a correlation with science as the Wolfsthurn handbook illustrated the usage of a combination of herbs and magic in conjunction. For example, using herbs to treat an illness with the addition of reciting specific words was deemed as natural magic. On the other hand, demonic magic was not thought to be a form of science but was a perverted depiction of religion. That demonic magic s power source was from demons and that words that could not be interpreted were thought to be demon names. In addition, treatments that involved animal skin from the Wolfsthurn book would be considered demonic magic as it was suggested that it was a ceremonial sacrifice to demons. • 44. Piece Of Ground Do We Need to Hear Both Sides of a Story? Hearing or not hearing both sides of a story can cause major impact on reader s perspectives and opinions. It can be the source of misunderstanding and false information about the situation of a story. It can also be the main cause of controversy, especially on topics that many people have strong opinions on and are passionate about. This is why it is essential to hear both sides of a story to understand the situation. This is because; if people with strong opinions on a topic read a one sided story, it could result in major controversy. While reading A Little Piece of Ground , I found myself almost immediately agreeing with and being on the Palestinians side because of the perspective of the book. It was only until I heard an interview talking about this perspective that I started opposing the book and thinking about other perspectives. It is, at the least, dishonest to portray a political conflict in totally unpolitical terms, particularly when it s written for kids who can t be assumed to know what the political context is (National Public Radio, 2018). As mentioned earlier, because the book targets readers aged ~12 14, the book entices most of its audience to one perspective without the audience even knowing. After finding this out, I felt tricked and it made me wonder if some of the events in the book were even similar to what happens in real life. However, it is lucky that this was brought to my attention, as if it were not, I would still believe that the Israelis were uncaring, killing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
