Social Class And Gender Roles
How are the tensions between social classes and/or genders dramatised in Modern European Drama?
Social class and gender roles, were and still are today, a key element in the progression of theatre.
Dada and Futurism, as movements in theatre took place at the time of the social class war, the
prejudice against women and their rights and the struggle to create an equal society. The two
movements, of avant garde style contained three stage in which they were able to create;
analysis...engagement...forward vision (Berghaus, 2005). Their method to create art and theatre
was impelled on by their desire to attack the dominant ideology of bourgeois society (Berghaus,
2005)
some claim that the word was discovered by opening a dictionary at random (Sawelson Gorse,
1998)
Dada was a crusade in order to win back the promise land of creativity (Berghaus, 2005). Dada, as
a movement, did not only take form of inspiring art, but it was a protest, to test the bourgeois
society. Dada, as movement has a rampant and wild allure about it. The way in which it was
approached and is approached today is similar in a sense of strength and power. In his manifesto
Tzara is clear that dada was born of a need of independence (Tzara, 1918), this does not only imply
that there was no independence in terms of art, but also that Constructivism needed to be moved
forward. In Tristen Tzara s Dadaist Manifesto he does not only have a fighting attitude toward
Dada, but also has resilient opinion on the

Richardson Epistolary Style
Samuel Richardson is an English writer who published during 18th century. He is famious for
his three epistolary novels: Pamela: Or, Virtue Rewarded (1740), Clarissa: Or the History of a
Young Lady (1748) and The History of Sir Charles Grandison (1753). Richardson s career was
unusual for literature. He started to write when he was fifty years old but his creativity was still
young. The History of Mrs. Beaumont is Richardson s last novelbut it is unfinished. It is the story
of a lady‚ whom „his soul loved and it proves that Richardson s creativity was still working
until the day he died. He liked to think about his self as being a hero of an unhappy love story. By
using the epistolary form in his novels, Richardson wanted to induce the image... Show more

Driven by clear moralistic intentions, he wrote the epistolary novel Pamela as a realistic sentimental
parable based on an exemplary adventure. The initial area of conflict is defined morally, in
foreground being the rich seducer whose mother dies, Mr. B. and his maid, Pamela Andrews.
Richardson made in this way a sentimental tearful prose. The evolution of the plot is reproduced
firstly by long letters of Pamela to her parents and by their responses. Dialog items, indeed
reduced, are also introduced in these fictitious letters. The style is constantly punctuated by
moralizing judgments and appeals to virtue, strongly standing out the echo of Puritan moral
propagated by Richardson. Basic terms of conflict result from the aggressive behavior of the
master tempted to seduce the maid and her worthy resistance, although she was in love with
him. Sentimental parable has a happy ending. Converted to virtue by the young girl, Mr. B. who
repents for his intentions, he proposed her a marriage. The victory of a simple and pure person
just emphasizes once again the cautionary lesson from this work. The story is complex: the main
heroine is Pamela Andrews, a beautiful 15 years old who was working as a maidservant in
Bedfordshire. She was an innocent, pious and virtuous girl. After the death of Lady B, she
remained due to her wish as a servant in the house. Mr. B, the new country landowner master
after his mother death, started to make advances towards the young servant. He tried to seduce
against her will and wanted to pay her to keep the secret about his mistake, but Pamela refused
and told the stories of his attempts to the housekeeper, Mrs. Jervis. One night he was hidden in
her room and tried to kiss and after this event the poor girl decided to go back to her
impoverished parents to preserve her virtue. He proposed her to marry the chaplain from
Lincolnshire, Mr. Williams, but she refused and was decided to go

The Challenge For Property Qualifications For Voting
One basis of political democracy in this period was the challenge to property qualifications for
voting. It began in the American Revolution but culminated in the early nineteenth century. After
the Revolution, no new state required property ownership to vote, and in older states, constitutional
conventions in the 1820s and 1830s abolished property qualifications, partly because the growing
number of wage earners who did not own much property demanded the vote. In the South, however,
where large slave owners dominated politics and distrusted mass democracy, property requirements
were eliminated only gradually and disappeared quite late, by 1860. The personal independence
required of the citizen was henceforth located not in owning property but in owning one s self, a
reflection of this period s individualism.
The single exception to this democratizing trend was Rhode Island, which required voters to own
considerable real estate or rental property. The state was a center of factory production, and many
wage earners could not vote. In 1841, reformers met at a People s Convention and drafted a new
state constitution that gave the vote to all adult men and stripped it from blacks. When the
convention illegally ratified the constitution and inaugurated lawyer Thomas Dorr as governor,
president John Tyler dispatched federal troops to the state, and the movement collapsed.
By 1840, more than 90 percent of adult white men could vote. By then, America had a vibrant
democratic system

The Murder Of Rapper Christopher Wallace
No one was ever charged in the murder of rapper Christopher Wallace, aka. Notorious B.I.G. or
Biggie Smalls, but I will show how a suspect would be tried if there were such a suspect. But first
I would like to point out that this trial would be a media circus. To begin with the suspect could
more than likely end up being one or more LAPD officers, a fact that the FBI has suggested in
their report on Wallace that was released in 2011 (Federal Bureauof Investigation , n.d.). Then
there is the gang aspect, Biggie had ties to the Crips, which he had reportedly hired to murder rival
rapper Tupac Shakur, who was himself a Blood, just six months prior to his own murder.
Subsequently, since no one has ever been formally charged in this case,I will try to use vague
wording when referring to the suspect, and I will refer to him by of name Mr. Murder Suspect . I
use the masculine only because there were no female suspects.
After Mr. Murder Suspect was charged in the murder of Cristopher Wallace, arrested, formally
charged at the first appearance, with the charges being upheld during the preliminary hearing, and
then formally arraigned, where he plead not guilty to all charges. Now the trial is set to begin.
(Schmalleger, 2014)
The trial process begins with the selection of the jury. After the jury is selected the next stage is the
opening statements. Since the prosecution has the burden of proof as to the defendant s guilt, the
prosecutor s opening statement is given first. An

David by Donatello and Michelangelo
David by Donatello and Michelangelo
When thinking about a triumph over an unimaginable feat, the story of David and Goliath comes to
mind. During the Italian Renaissance, Florence was under constant change and turmoil however
David remained a consistent symbol of endless possibilities for the people. For the Florentines,
David represented the essence of civic virtue courage, fortitude, and faith (Murray, 39). Various
artists have revealed their own depictions of the young shepherd boy but two stand out among the
masses. Donatello and Michelangelo both created masterpieces on the biblical subject although the
approaches of each artist were completely diverse and caused unique reactions.
In 1404, the very powerful Medici ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each David was sculpted in the naturalistic image that their creator envisioned. They also share
the commonality of association with the Medici family, a very powerful group of people that
loved the arts and was said to have commissioned Donatello for the David sculpture. Later on they
became too powerful and the republic forced them out of control, resulting in the creation of
another David as a celebration of their triumph. The earlier David stood in the courtyard of the
Palazzo della Signoria, which also happened to be the very place that Michelangelo s piece was
displayed upon completion.
Despite the fact that the David s share time periods, political meanings, and origins, the two
sculptures look completely different and evoke very different emotions. Perhaps the most
significant difference is found in the choices made by the artists to place their sculpture before or
after the battle against Goliath. Donatello s David is portrayed following the victory against the
feared adversary. He is full of glory and stands on the head Goliath with his oversized sword
clutched in his small hands. Michelangelo takes a different perspective and depicts David in the
moment before battle with nothing but his sling in hand. This creates more of a feeling of
anticipation and strength of courage. The determination in Michelangelo s sculpture s face is very
apparent where Donatello creates a face that is calm and victorious.

Intellectual Property And The Copyright Act Of 1976
Intellectual property represents ideas created by minds of humans that require certain rights for
their use. Intellectual property gives companies a competitive advantage and attracts the attention
of other business partners and investors (Lee, 2016). With such importance, it is necessary for the
law to protect these ideas from being used by unauthorized individuals. To shield from this, trade
secrets, patents, and copyrights are used to protect the ownership of intellectual property(Legal
Information Institute).
A copyright gives the originator of literary, artistic, or music works the right to perform, publish,
record, or print them. This can include sound recordings, paintings, photographs, films, melodies,
television, radio broadcasts, cable programs, performances, and even codes to computer
programs (Legal Information Institute). Since copyrights cover several different types of
materials, the duration varies depending on what work is being protected. According to the
Copyright Act of 1976, musical, artistic, and literary works created after January 1, 1978 have
copyrights that last 70 years after the author has passed away, 95 years after publication, or 120
years from creation, whichever expires first (United States Copyright Office, 2011). However, the
published editions of these works have copyrights that last 25 years after being first published.
Broadcast and cable programs, on the other hand, have a copyright duration of 50 years after being
created

Essay on Houstons Land Use Policy

Professor Andrew Teas
Houston Land Use Policy Houston is a large city with very unique qualities that most cities cannot
even begin to understand, but is this just Houstonian pride talking? No, actually one of the unique
qualities that Houston has is how we handle our land use planning. Houston is well known for not
having any zoning ordinances, which has become a well known topic for a while now. People argue
weather our lack of zoning is chaotic, unorthodox, or independent and distinct. Another unique
quality that we have is where our political culture stands. Dr. Elazar s Individualistic Traditionalistic

beliefs and values of the dominant groups in society; these groups can range in between three
categories of political culture moralistic, Individualistic, and traditionalistic. According to the book,
moralistic political culture is when citizens understand the state and the nation as commonwealths
designed to further the shared interest of everyone. In Individualistic political culture, citizens
understand the state and the nation as marketplaces in which people strive to better their personal
welfare, citizen participation is encouraged. In Traditionalistic political culture, citizens technically
believe in democracy, but emphasize respect to elite rule within a hierarchal society and citizen
participation is not encouraged. Texas stands right in between Individualistic and Traditionalistic in

Essay on Freedom of Choice in A Clockwork Orange
Freedom of Choice
In the novel A Clockwork Orange, the author Anthony Burgess tells a story about a young man
name Alex and his friends, every night they go around and start committing violent acts. In the
novel Alex expresses his freedom of choice between good and evil. The freedom of choice is a
decision that every person must make throughout his life in order to guide his actions and to take
control of his own future. This Freedom of Choice, no matter what the outcome is, displays person
power as an individual, and any efforts to control or influence this choice between good and evil
will take way the person free will and enslave him. In this novel the author uses this symbolism
through imagery. He shows that through the character of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

. . there s no law nor order no more pg 14. He takes on a role of authority in a society of anarchy.
Although he is impervious to the choice of good, Alex does not remain ignorant to this choice
throughout the entire novel. In the beginning, he believes that violence is the only way to prove
his control. This then leads to his loss of control through the loss of his ability of choice. Only in
the very end Alex finally become a well rounded character. He realizes that he does not have to
choose evil and abuse his position to prove his right of choice. But where I itty now, O my brothers,
is all on my oddy knocky, where you cannot go. Tomorrow is all like sweet flowers? pg 148. Alex
now knows that his future is open for his choices to lead him. For good or for evil, it is his right to
decide, and this is what truly proves his freedom of choice.
In the novel, the first freedom of choice Alex made was the type music to which he listens too
and loves, which is Mozart, Beethoven, and G.F. Handel, this type of music makes him very
energetic, it helps him foster violence, and it is the only thing in his life that he truly cares for.
This music represents the element of his choice and free will. When this choice is robbed from
him in attempt to help him, he loses his love for music in which he said, ?All the time the music
got more and more gromky, like it was all a deliberate torture, O my brothers pg 131. The music

Essay On Design Should Be Formed Not Formed
ARCHITECTURE SHOULD BE INFORMAL NOT RIGID.
New structure and informal by Cecil Balmond talks about Continuous and crisscrossing space that
spirals upwards looks like a series of cubes that have been inset into one another such formation

framework. Cecil Balmond had explored the different ways of creating and developing new forms
through careful discovery by new and innovative techniques such as structural solution for roofing,
overlapping of points for roofing and rotating disc Balmond explores the idea of a generic pattern in
the tilling of the walls that transports into the structure from ornamentation to substance.

The fixed form that is copy nature directly becomes forced. Balmond states that instead that one
should see what needs to occur is a change in paradigm: acceptance of risk, and the building of
internal processes that embrace conflict; that inexactness in structure should be viewed as positive,
giving separate understandings of a singular structure on the basis of who is observing it, uses it or
experiencing the space.
Than it starts to focus on the informal, it is the method which includes thinking and doing that
does not have distinct rules and fixed patterns. The informal does not have a set of standards or
rules and methods it can be copied and applied to acts of making.
The informal is a result of interactions between relationships, the informal acts as an agent of
release and architecture are free from the traditional notions or rule of fixed grid and locked in cage .
According to Balmond informal is a way of architecture shedding off the links of previous design
movements and concepts that helps in a way of exploring and expanding the discipline. The
informal is known as liberation for architecture.
Balmond then takes us on a survey of work in which he shows how the informal has been applied
and utilized for new advancement and exploration in architecture before concluding with a
discussion of new structure and new science.
By removing fixed rules, there

Essay On Us Foreign Relations
The United States is an amazing land of opportunity, open to most anyone of any nationality. This
land has shone a beacon of freedom since 1776 when it declared its sovereignty from Great Britain
and the fight for its freedom. The United States has since then taken a vital part in much of the
many international affairs that occur around the globe. Some of it being conducive to its continued
sovereignty and expansion and its fight to be the most powerful country in the free world, and
some of it to help our allies in ways that they cannot always help themselves. In today s world, the

While this is one example of foreign relations in the history of the United States, there are many
others, such as the Revolutionary War, where the United States got its beginning, the War of 1812,
where the United States had to once again defend itself from Great Britain in a great victory,
America s involvement in the island nation of Hawaii, which had an interesting outcome, and the
Spanish American war, which had many repercussions, some being good and some being bad.
The best place to start with foreign relations of the United States is in the Revolutionary War when
the United States fought Great Britain for their independence. This war began on April 19, 1775,
and ended on September 3, 1783, with a surprising victory for the Americans. The war was caused
by growing political changes between the Americans and the British. The British were continually
taxing the American people while simultaneously giving them no say in the matter. This is where
the famous phrase No taxation without representation comes from. It was not long after this point
when the Americans decided to finally fight for their independence from the British and not only
fight for better representation in their government. This is arguably the first time the United States
as a sovereign nation had any sort of foreign relations with a nation that was not

Dante s Concept of Sin and Judgment in The Inferno
Infidelity, murder, betrayal, and conspiracy all play an integral part in the story of the relationship
between Jason and Medea. Jason is guilty of all four acts and Medea involves herself in three. Yet,
perhaps, in the eyes of Dante, Medea might fall further into the realm of Dis than Jason. But,
should she? And, is Dante s view of Jason and his sentence in Hell appropriate?
From Dante s perspective, crimes of passion or desire are the least abhorrent and consequently
deserve minimal punishment in comparison to what he believes are the more serious offenses.
These sinners, the carnal, the gluttonous, the hoarders and wasters, along with the wrathful and ...

Violence without consideration, striking out at another in anger, frustration, hatred or selfish
ambition is inherent in the nature of these actions. Accordingly Dante interprets them as being less
detrimental to one s being than crimes of thought and meditation.
In Dante s view the next circle of sin consists of acts of fraud. He classifies these sinners as
seducers and panderers, flatterers, simoniacs, fortune tellers, grafters, hypocrites, thieves, evil
counselors, sowers of discord, and counterfeiters or falsifiers. These are the souls who in life
betrayed the confidence of another. They preyed on other people solely for gain and knowingly
deceived without concern for their victims psyche or physical being.
Yet Dante does not stop here. He further complicates fraud by adding the realm of compound
fraud. Souls found in this circle of Hell did not betray just a stranger or acguaintance, but rather
twisted the confidence of someone who loved and/or respected them. They defiled their own kin
or country. They either took advantage of guests or of a host, perhaps within his own home. And,
falling closest to the pit of Hell (and Lucifer) are those souls who betray the confidence of their
lord or benefactor. All these unfortunate shadows of life are those who consciously sought to gain
by lying to or by committing an act of treachery against someone who holds a special place in their
life; someone who, in some way, they are

Hydraulic Fracturing Is Not The Only Cause For Ethical...
Hydraulic fracturing is not the only cause for ethical concern. Mountaintop removal for the
purposes of coal mining is an incredibly harmful procedure taking place on our planet. This
destructive action being taken by companies looking to access coal underneath mountains is not
only damaging to the earth and environment, but is also affecting humans who live near these sites
(The Destructive Process of Mountaintop Removal). Companies is West Virginia and Kentucky
can take virtually any mountain they choose and level it because laws are created in the favor of coal
mining companies.
The process of mountaintop removal is a drawn out process that eventually leaves the earth it is
leveling unusable. First, the mountain is cleared of trees, plants, and topsoil. The trees below are
often cleared as well to make room for the rubble that will take their place. The next step involves
blasting the top of the mountain. Ammonium nitrate explosives are used to blast through up to
1,000 feet of the mountain in order to access coal seams (The Destructive Process of Mountaintop
Removal). During this time dust and toxic chemicals like silica, fall over surrounding areas
sometimes even neighborhoods and communities. As noted before, silica is known to cause the
lung disease silicosis, so it is disturbing that one of these removal sites is within several hundred
yards of an elementary school (Hoffman). After blasting, the coal companies dig through the debris
with enormous machines. The

Diversity at Deloitte
Gender amp; Diversity Plan and Policies
When talking about equality opportunities implemented by companies, we can make a
differentiation between two different models, the liberal and the radical one.
The liberal model, described by Jewson and Mason, is emphasized on a philosophy of sameness ,
where people should have access to and be assessed within the workplace as individuals, regardless
of social category.
In the other hand, the radical approach is focused on a positive discrimination where employment
practices are deliberately manipulated in order to obtain a fair distribution of those disadvantaged
groups in the workplace, and it is also focused in achieving not only equality of opportunity but also
equality of outcome. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

reserved. Roosevelt took bold actions, Taft was cautious. In short, Taft was a apprehensive,
lackluster campaigner. Yet, Roosevelt s backing was the catalyst that truly caused him to obtain
victory.
As president, Taft sustained the movement for reform. He battled to bind the supremacy of big
corporations and added land to the national forest system. That being said, Taft did not see eye to
eye with other progressives. Progressives sought reduced tariffs on imported goods. The result of
this would cause foreign products to be less expensive for American consumers. On top of that,
lower tariffs would likewise cause a surge competition, forcing American manufacturers to lower
their prices. All the leading businesses preferred high tariffs. Although Taft ran for president on a
low tariff platform, yet in 1909 he settled to sign the Payne Aldrich Bill, which raised tariffs. This
action tarnished Taft s record as a progressive.
The 1912 election also highlighted a few candidates. Woodrow Wilson, a man of firm progressive
principles, represented the Democratic Party. Labor leader Eugene V. Debs, who ran as a socialist,
sponsored more radical change, urging voters to make the working class

South African Americans Before European Integration
Europe has been quite successful in integrating its economies because of the various geopolitical
and economic activities. The first and foremost reason is that these countries are small and the
economy of the one country can be integrated with the economy of the other country. Their
integration has been made possible because the aspiration and believe of the different countries are
very much similar. Moreover, their cultural and economic history is moreover same. European
Unionas it has been called now has been the most developed model of the regional integration
though challenged by economic crisis now a days.
For the integration, the intersection of the economic need, life style of the people, and size of the
economy must be same. Due to inappropriate way and lack of proper political integration by
countries and surge in the national feeling over the common economic goal of the region has
adversely impacted the area. European unions is comprised of many countries which include

Hard Work Makes Champions On January 25, 1951, one of America s greatest runners was
born, Steve Prefontaine. He was a very determined young man. His free time was almost always
spent running on the beach, dunes, golf courses, pretty much everywhere. He ran four to eight
miles a day. His hard work finally payed off when he won the Oregon State title, during his junior
year. This shows you can accomplish anything as long as you work your hardest and set your
mind to it. Steve was born and raised in Coos Bay, Oregon, by his mother, Elfriede, and father, Ray
Prefontaine. In the book, Pre: The Story of America s Greatest RunningLegend, Steve Prefontaine,
Tom Jordan describes Pre as an, active youngster, (Jordan 5). Throughout grade school, Steve was
often teased about his hyperactivity, and how slow he learned. During junior high, Pre was a
football benchwarmer, for he was only five feet tall and one hundred pounds. He was often
discriminated against because of his height, which is why he stayed on the bench a majority of the
time. Once Steve became a Freshman at Marshfield High School, he decided to join the cross
country team (25). Prefontaine trained extremely hard throughout winter season and got fifth...

was raised by my parents to never lose sight of my goals and to always have a positive work
ethic. My parents were born in India and they moved to Canada in hopes that their children

mother as a general factory worker in grade ten. The working conditions were very tough in which
we stood for long hours and we had to be constantly working quickly. I met many great women and
men who were new immigrants and heard their struggles in their birth country. However, despite all

In Cold Blood And Truman Capote And In Cold Blood
In Cold Blood, a nonfictional narrative explores a different side of four brutal murders in hopes to
humanize the murderers while, on the other hand, the film, Capote, explores the creation of the
story as well as Truman Capote s relationships with the killers. Though the variants tell slightly
different stories, they converge on certain stylistic elements such as contrast. From the cheerful
shots of yellow, brightness, and loud ambiance, to somber, cold, framed shots of solemn feeling in
Capoteas well as substantial differences in the natures of the characters from In Cold Blood, both
use contrast to express the purpose of the pieces and uncover point of view. A recurring theme of
through Capote and In Cold Blood is the contrast of Perry s nature, which constructs a more
complex character with depth. Throughout the book, Perry displays two conflicting
personalities. A majority of the time Perry is insecure, submissive, and childlike. His
relationship with Dick highlights his insecurity and dependency, for example when he lies to
Dick about killing a man to seem more intimidating. Because of his childhood traumas Perry
often cries in his sleep, sucks his thumb, or even wets his bed, Perry could be such a kid, always
wetting his bed and crying in his sleep ( Dad, I been looking everywhere, where you been, Dad? ,
(Capote). This is touched on in the Capote movie when Truman Capotespoon feeds Perry baby food

Consequences Of Violent Video Games
Annie Leonard s video titled The Story of Stuff outlines the materials economy, with many
problems arising at every stage. In the consumption stage, the products are in the hands of the
consumers. As a result, this is where the most immediate harm occurs. According to Kate Russell,
global revenue for the [video game] industry now approaches $100 billion (Russel, Exploring the
Evolution of the Games Market ). Various types of video games have been developed over time
but one of the most popular genres is violent video games. The nature of these games is not
appropriate for all ages and can invoke many problems. In the consumption stage of the materials
economy, adolescents are exposed to violent video games that can affect them in a negative
manner. These games invoke psychological and legal issues that generate more problems when the
effects are combined. It is crucial that the problems are acknowledged and managed to prevent
further damage and to prevent a future of destruction. Through extensive exposure to violent video
games, adolescents are subjected to many psychological issues. After playing these video games,
gamers typically exhibit more aggressive behaviour than they would have had they not played the

Geology Research Project Devils tower is a geological formation in our nation s first national
park. The tower is a rock formation known as a laccolithic butte. Laccolithic is a term used for
large masses of rocks which were made of magma, typically under ground between rock strata.
Most laccoliths are round and dome shaped, but devils tower has been eroded to the point of
having a flat top and very steep sides. There is also no evidence of volcanic activity around
Devils Tower, but some researchers just believe that it may have eroded away over time. Devils
tower is also known as a stock, the most basic explanation is that it was once under the ground but
is now exposed. Before devils tower was exposed it was surrounded and buried by sedimentary
rocks, because sedimentary rocks and shale are a lot softer than igneous rock they eroded away and
left the tower standing tall. There used to be water covering the land, this sea once covered
most of the western united states long ago. This water played a huge part in eroding away the
sediments and rock that once covered devils tower. The tower itself is also being slowly eroded,
and one day may not even exist. The rock formation was discovered in 1875 on an expedition led
by Colonel Richard Dodge, he spoke to indigenous peoples in the area and might of got a bad
translation. He thought they called it the bad god s tower. So he modified that phrase to Devil s
tower. When president

Oedipus Rex – The Women Essay
Oedipus Rex The Women
Charles Segal in Oedipus Tyrannus: Tragic Heroism and the Limits of Knowledge explains the
protagonist s concern for Jocasta s burial in Sophocles Oedipus Rex:
Oedipus turns from his utter desolation and abasement to something of his old air of command,
albeit in a chastened and softened tone. He asks Creon to expel him from Thebes as quickly as he
can and gives orders for Jocasta s burial (1446ff), a gesture of concern and responsibility
characteristic of the Oedipus we saw in the opening scenes(73).

previous question and many other questions regarding women in Oedipus Rex. ... Show more

The critic Ehrenberg warns that it may lead to hubris (74 75). Throughout the drama Sophocles
draws out an ongoing contrast between the godlike mastery of the king and the softer, more
balanced and selfless characteristics of Jocasta, his wife. She is a foil to Oedipus. Shortly
thereafter Creon, Jocasta s brother, is returning from the Delphic oracle with the fateful words of
the god s command: He fell; and now the god s command is plain: /Punish his takers off, whoe er
they be. Immediately Oedipus boldly launches a campaign to do what is best for his people and for
himself:
I also, as is meet, will lend my aid
To avenge this wrong to Thebes and to the god.
Not for some far off kinsman, but myself,
Shall I expel this poison in the blood;
For whoso slew that king might have a mind
To strike me too with his assassin hand.
Oedipus, in his public proclamation regarding punishment for the killer of King Laius, shows more
lenient treatment toward the guilty party if he confesses his crime: I summon him to make clean
shrift to me./And if he shrinks, let him reflect that thus /Confessing he shall scape the capital charge
. Oedipus, in his cross examination of the holy man Teiresias, shows his mastery to be more human
and less godlike: Monster! thy silence would incense a flint. /Will nothing loose thy tongue? Can
nothing melt thee, /Or shake thy dogged taciturnity? The king is confronted with Teiresias

willingness of FW De Klerk to work with the African National Congress as it says that he lifted the
ban on the ANC. This source is useful as it gives an overview of what had happened during the
time period and gives an objective and balanced account, the writer has also used a variety of
primary sources to put this source together. This source however, does have limitations as it may
be one sided and only reflect the point of view of the writer. This source is also valid as it comes

Comparison Of First And Second Language Acquisition
Comparison of First and Second Language Acquisition This paper gives a comprehensive
comparison of how acquiring a first language differs from acquiring a new or a second language.
It provides the similarities and differences of the two analogies and gives a critical appraisal of the
strengths and weaknesses of these two issues. Finally, the paper provides personal suggestions and
insights for future research on the same topics. Moreover, the paper will detail the differences
between first language acquisitionin the pre school period of learning and second language
acquisitionat an advanced or higher classroom level. Acquisition of a second language is one of the
most remarkable aspects of the development of human knowledge and way of communication. It is
an unusual phenomenon that has caught the attention of many researchers especially in the field of
learning and linguisticsfor generations to come. The first language acquisition and the acquisition of
a second language have been treated in most cases as two distinct analogies thus forming
contrivances because of their differences regarding environment and age. Brown (2000), while
differentiating between attainment of first language and the acquirement of a second or new
language contends that the first emanates from unconscious, and naturalistic use of language and in
many instances lead to a person becoming fluent in conversation, while the second language
acquisition symbolizes the cognizant understanding of

The Key Causes Of The Great Depression
The Great Depression The great depression is one of the most severe international economic crises
that preside after the Great War and before World War 2. The key factors that were considered to be

The boom and bust
The rapid economic expansion or the Jazz Age brought great tides and social changes in the U.S.
However, the Roaring Twenties ended with hints of depressions and leaded to the stock market

That does not mean it is not effective in helping the body. Research supports a role for it in a

Analyzing Audit And Fraud Risks
Analyzing Audit and Fraud Risks
Audit risk, as defined in SAS No. 47, under Audit Risk and Materiality in Conducting an Audit , is
the kind of risk that an auditor may unknowingly take by failing to make corrections as per their
opinions on financial statements that are materially misstated (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). SAS
represents audit risk in the form of a model that comprises three different risks. There is the control
risk, the inherent risk and detection risk. This is known as the Audit Risk Model (Riahi Belkaoui,
and Picur 34).
As a way of increasing awareness of possible fraud, SAS No. 82 Consideration of Fraud in a
Financial Statement Audit , was issued in 1997 (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). This SAS does not
modify the basic ARM, but it expands on the guidance for the auditor s consideration of material
fraud in conducting financial statement audits. The SAS increases an auditor s ability to detect
fraud in an organization.
Since the issuance of SAS No. 47, many other approaches of developing the ARM have been
issued (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). One such approach is the belief function framework that is
used to model the audit planning and evaluation process for accounts receivable. While using such
an approach, it is easier to demonstrate the viability of the auditors. The approach also serves as an

The Role Of Interracial Marriage In Early America
Marriage is, and has always been, a symptom of a society s behavior. From the early settlements
of America, when segregation was clearly established and accepted in early America s society,
we could see a reflection in those days marriage since it was completely forbidden for a white
person to marry a person of color. Banishment was the punishment for such action and in some
places, like Mississippi, the black person would be imprisoned for life (1865). Furthermore, Article
VIII of the Louisiana Black Code forbade slaves to get married without permission of their slave
master. It was not until 1967 when Anti miscegenationlaws finally considered unconstitutional that
interracial marriagewas forbidden.

The Greeks, Non Greeks And Expressions Of Humanism
A. Greeks, Non Greeks and Expressions of Humanism
Throughout history, the concept of humanism has changed and in a way evolved over the years.
Many believe that humanism began with the early Greek civilizations, but there are many instances
of non Greek expressions of humanism. From Hammurabi s Code in Mesopotamia, to the Romans
art and sculptures, and lastly the way the Egyptians viewed their Pharaoh s as leaders with supreme
importance.
Humanism is a term that has become synonymous with human and natural rights. One of the
earliest expressions of human rights is Hammurabi s Code of Laws. Hammurabi s laws were
often recognized because of the harsh punishments that would occur if you broke a certain rules.
If a man put out the eye of another man, his eye shall be put out. (*) In other words an eye for an
eye has to be one of the most notorious laws that s written in Hammurabi s Code. But, one of the
most frequent of penalties of the various 282 laws was death (@). Even though to many people
these laws would be considered extremely harsh, these laws became a model for future law
systems. These laws set an example that for every improper action there would be a proper
punishment that would follow. But, the main problem with these laws was that they were very
vague and don t consider other possibilities such as religion.
There are many different ways that humanism could be expressed. Specifically the Romans loved to
express humanism through their numerous sculptures

2081 Unit 1 Essay
The film 2081 directed by Chandler Tuttle is an adaption of the short story Harrison Bergeron by
Kurt Vonnegurt Jr. Which looks into a dystopian society which everyone is finally equal.
Vonnegurt wanted to show us how absurd the world will become when everyone is equal and
Tuttle has convey that perfectly in his adaption. The story is told from George Bergeron
perspective as he watches his son Harrison performs his act of rebellion and his own requiem.
Tuttle uses Harrison to criticise how absurd perfect equality is and uses George to show how
media can control our lives and dictate how we view of our society. Tuttle uses various film
techniques to emphasise character s emotion and their view about the society they are in. In the
scene where... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Harrison got shot on television, George is left with sadness of his son s death but
immediately forgets about it after the headphone rings. The overall effect of this scene is to
challenge our moral of parent s responsibility of a child and also create a sense of imprisonment.
The scene starts with a mid shot of George which show his expression of sadness towards his son
s death on the television. Then the diegetic sounds of the headphone come in to interrupt his
thoughts. The diegetic sounds combines with jump cuts create the effect of memories and
thoughts scattering away. We can see George s pain from the sound alternating with flashback
of Harrison being taken away. Tuttle wanted to emphasises to the audience again that in order to
achieves perfect equality, this is how absurd the world will be. Parent s will have to forget that
children s death right in front of their eyes or how the government is shooting innocence people
on television. The following shots create a contrast between George and Hazel. When we see
George in a full shot, the composition on the frame has the right half and the top part covered.
This works with lead lines to show George s imprisonment and how is his confine to area in the
box. Tuttle uses this to symbolise George s view of the current society. He knows that the
government is controlling him but as he says nothing we can do about it then to Hazel s suggestion
of taking of the handicaps.

Early Childhood Development In The United States
The first part in the life cycle of a butterfly is the egg. The small egg is placed on a leaf by the
adult female butterfly. Like how the eggs genetics come from the adult butterfly, our ethnicity and
heritage can affect our culture. In the article What Is Cultural Heritage? it states, Today, we find
that heritage is not only manifested through tangible forms such as artefacts, buildings or
landscapes but also through intangible forms. We get more than antiques from our ancestors we get
our food, genetics, values, stories, traditions, and possibly religion. Like the caterpillar is placed on

Like caterpillars, as kids we absorb everything our parents tell us. The values, beliefs, and morals
our parents teach us molds and sculpts our culture. in the article The Impact of Culture on Early
Childhood Development in the United States by Damon Verial it states, The United States is a
blending of many cultures that feature many stable and different subcultures. Where a child
grows up and who her parents are will influence the cultural wisdom, or emphasis of certain
values and skills, that are passed to her. A lot of what my parents have taught me culturally is
through food. My father spent two years of his life in Switzer land and the South of France. My
father has introduced a lot of French culture into our home. On Christmas Eve, we eat shrimp
scampy rather than chicken or turkey, which is most common in the United States. On Sunday
morning when we were little, our dad would make us omelets. For dinner, we have learned to
like crepes, raklet, and fondue. My mom grew up in Idaho. Every meal has some form of potato
and a side of salad; almost without fail. My parents raised us in the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter day Saints. In our church, we have a set of guidelines called the Word of Wisdom, which
teaches us our bodies are sacred and we should watch what we put in them. For example, we do
not drink alcohol or addictive beverages. My parents and their cultures have had momentous
effects on my own culture. This however is not restricted just by foods. In positions on
contradicting beliefs, I often find my views to mirror the ones of my parents. As I grow older I do
not personally know to what extent my parents influence my culture and if my views will change
or shift toward or away from what they are

The Federal Reserve System
The Federal Reserve is a federal system enacted to help balance the monetary system of America.
Overall, the system is meant to encourage economic growth. However, there are some flaws of the
system that result in economic chaos, such as stealing and inflation. It s vital to understand the
biblical principles that are overstepped by the Federal Reserve to determine if it is a system that
aids Christian practices. Thus, one can observe the important role that the system plays, but also the
problems that its flaws can create by overstepping Christian principles.
The Federal Reserve system was created to help maintain a balance for the monetary system in
America. Not only does it help regulate the flow of currency, but it also oversees banks and
therefore influences Americans on a personal level with their finances. Evidently, the system is
deeply webbed into the federal system and everyday American life that it is now the system that is

Wu Zetian Perpetual Footprint on China Essay
Over a span of several decades, Wu Zetian inalterably changed life in China for woman as well
the clergy and the poor. By doing so, she left a perpetual footprint on China s long history that
transcends the mere fact that she was the first woman to rule the Red Dragon . Wu Zetian was
originally known as Wu Chao, born in 625 in Taiyuan in northern China. She adopted Wu Zetian
when she seized the Chinese throne in 660. Wu Zetian was a beautiful young woman... (Knight

the first dragon lady and the lone woman to act thus in Chinese imperial history. During her reign,

She has previously become the empress dowager (the widow of the emperor with the power
over all of his property), then the regent (the substitute for the emperor). However, after the
emperor Gaozong suffered a stroke in 660, Wu seized the real power within China. Wu s slyness
resulted in the exile of members of the royal family that were heirs to the throne and in at least
in one case, to be poisoned (Li Hong). She also had made sure that her late husband Gaozong s
provision in his will that she ascend to the throne became a reality when her third son appointed
her Heir Apparent. She ruled the dynasty on behalf of Gaozong and her son for about three
decades. In 684, Wu s son, Li Zhe, ascended to the Imperial throne, assuming the name Zhongzong.
When it became apparent that Zhongzong would be under greater influence of his wife Wei than
his mother, Wu had him exiled after reducing his title to Prince of Luling. She then had her
youngest son Li Dan made emperor Ruizong whereupon she became both the substantive and actual
ruler. In 690, Empress Wu assumed the title of emperor for herself the lone woman to act as
emperor in Chinese imperial history thereby finally facilitating the great improvement in China that
Wu s legacy left for women, the Buddhist clergy and the classes less fortunate than the aristocracy.

Sensitive Period to Order
INTRODUCTION
In this assignment I am going to discuss the child s sensitive period for order. I will explain how it
is catered for in the classroom, referring to materials and activities.
Sensitive Periods
The Sensitive Periods are the best times for a child to learn a specific skill and are critical to the
child s self development. The child has this inner urge to undertake the task in order to live.
Although, once this period passes it is possible for the child to learn the new skill but with much
more difficulty. A sensitive period that is prevented from occurring will manifest itself into a cranky
child.
The three main sensitive periods for children aged birth to six are, order, movement and language.

But freedom within limits, not the right to do whatever you want, whenever you want. Freedom
needs to work within the grounds of discipline. Discipline is making correct choices while
respecting the classroom, and the rights of the other children.
In my experience, Marie is consistent at all times while teaching but kind and caring at the same
time. She set clear expectations very early on in the school year and this is evident through the
respect the children show her and the order that upholds in the classroom.
The expectations included; * Children are given the freedom to move, to communicate, to choose
activity and to work with others. * Children must not disrespect the materials. The materials must
only be used for the purpose intended. * Children can only choose what he/she has been
presented. * If the child cannot use a specific piece of material, it is removed and re presented or, a
period of time is given to allow the child s development.
REFER TO MATERIALS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE CLASSROOM
Referring to materials and activities in the Montessori classroom, it is fair to say that the Practical
Life and Sensorial shelves all stimulate the child s sense of order. The Practical Life shelf consists
of the dressing frames, which allows the child to understand the importance of sequence in tasks.
The pouring exercises which teaches the child hand eye coordination and their entire body

Rome s Influence On Italy And America
Due to Rome s great impact on the world, Rome is often thought of as a much bigger place than
simply just the capital of Italy. Let s Go Publication stated Rome. The city that ruled an empire. A
center for the Renaissance, the papacy, and the birthplace of Western civilization. (Let s Go
Publications, 484). This quote demonstrates just how impactful the city of Romewas on the world
and why Rome is thought of something much bigger than just a capital of a country. Rome was
very prevalent in biblical times because of how powerful the Roman Empirewas during the time
that the bible was written. In 27 BC, the Roman Empire arose as a republic in Rome and was in

Kim Abbott informed Whether it s cheese and wine or pizza and pasta, the food of Italy has so
much influence on the culinary world (Abbott,1). The preceding quote explains how Italian
food affected the world of art and culinary. During the Renaissance period, paintings of jesus and
major biblical figures were profoundly prevalent. However, after the Italian Renaissance, it
became excessively popular to paint fruit, food, and common household objects. Some of the
most historically famous artist come from Italy; A few to name are: Michelangelo, Leonardo Da

Colosseum, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Florence Cathedral, and the Milan Cathedral. Author
Amanda Claridge reported that most major Roman buildings use solid stone blocks if at all
possible and finely dressed masonry is immediate indicator to a building of wealth and high status
(Claridge,39). Claridge s quote showed that architecture of buildings and homes are highly
important to the Italian people. Amanda Claridge also wrote that In contrast to the preponderance
of white on the outside Roman interiors were frequently a riot of color. Walls, ceilings, and floors
were rarely if ever left bare (Claridge, 51). The previous quote puts emphasis on the priority of

I. Problem Definition
1) Background Information In South Korea, social demand for normalization of public education
and the burden of private education expenses has been constantly demanding for decades. Recently,
government enacted the гЂЊSpecial Act on the Promotion of Normalization of Public Education
and Regulation of Prior EducationгЂЌ. Education policies such as normalization of public
education have been promoted for a long time. The major reason for the enactment of such a
regulatory law is that Korean society is intensifying competition in education system with the
overheated educational passion of the older generation. Such an indiscriminate competition in
education has led to the expansion of private tutoring to the extent of ... Show more content on

2) Solutions
a. Problem solving through improvement of the public education system To prevent prior learning,
it is need to increase public school hours. Currently, public education in Korea lacks absolute study
time in school compared to OECD advanced countries. Expanding the current after school system to
increase elementary school education time gradually reduces the amount of time spent on private
education and attracts students into the public education framework. It is the purpose of gradual
eradication of private education prior learning by changing the structure of the current public
education system.
b. To solve problems by supplementing the bill Any law must be supplemented at the beginning of
enforcement. Excessive regulation at unnecessary levels should be relaxed and establish standards
such as penalty clauses that are effective. The current law is not effective because the punishment
clause is weak and the subject of accusation is unclear. The introduction of a reward system will be
a viable solution to this.
c. Solve problems through changes in educational climate Educational climate is a very important
factor in education. Korea traditionally acknowledged the authority of the teacher and gave it many
powers. However, the current educational climate is such that teachers are not allowed to take
responsibility without permission. Efforts to reduce the number of students per teacher and

Reaction Paper On Preposition
Preposition is a part of a sentence. Without a preposition, a sentence may not carry any meaning
even. A sentence may fail to give its complete meaning without a preposition. It is the most
commonly used functional word in sentences. A preposition is placed anywhere in a sentence.
According to the rules of forming a sentence, a sentence does not end with preposition. The usage
of preposition at the end of sentence is not grammatically correct, still, it is used. It is permissible
in the modern times. A preposition that comes at the end of sentence is called stranded
preposition. No concrete and clear definition can be given for each preposition except for a few.

Preposition may be of a word or phrase,
e.g. (of words) at, in, on, etc.
e.g. (of phrases)
In spite of , on account of, instead of, etc. At times a preposition functions as a modifier. (I.e. as an
adjective or as an adverb)
e.g.
We arrived at 12 0 clock. (Adverb)
The news about him is not true. (Adjective)
The word preposition has its origin from a Latin word praepositia meaning placed before that is
pre positioned. It is placed before a noun, a pronoun, or a phrase. It shows or explains its temporal
or logical relationship of an object (a noun, a pronoun, or a phrase)
with some other noun or pronoun or adjective or phrase in sentences. Preposition tells or gives the
information or idea on the relationship between nouns or pronouns or something else. It tells, in
what relation a noun or a pronoun stands in regard to something else in a sentence.
The cat is under the table.
Here the preposition under is placed before the noun table and explains in what way the noun cat
stands in relation to the other noun table, in other words, the preposition under, explains in what
way the two nouns cat and table is related to each other:

Employment Relationship Within The Usa
The USA is one of the only some countries where employment is principally at will. All states apart
from Montana assume such relationship of employment in the U.S (2005, Ewing, North, Taylor).
The majority countries of the world let employers to release employee simply for cause. A number
of the reasons specified for the retention of the at will assumption comprise employer deference,
respect for autonomy of contract, and the faith that equally employers and employees support an at

Agreements of Collective bargaining typically offer that represented employees might merely be
terminated for a cause. Cause usually comprises reasons for instance poor employee misconduct,
employee performance, or economic necessity. A contract of employment might exclusively
delineate the situations or employee actions that would direct to termination for cause.
Courts above the years, have carved out exemptions to the Employment at will (EAW) assumption
to lessen its sometimes inconsiderate outcomes (Karen, 2005). The 3 foremost exceptions of
common law are implied contract, public policy, and implied convention of good faith. The
presumption of at will is strong, on the other hand, and it can be hard for an employee to establish
that his circumstances fall in one of the exemptions. Additionally, not all of the exceptions are
distinguished by all jurisdictions.

In this situation I would utilize the utilitarian theory. Initially, Joe has no grounds to take legal

  • 2. Social Class And Gender Roles How are the tensions between social classes and/or genders dramatised in Modern European Drama? Social class and gender roles, were and still are today, a key element in the progression of theatre. Dada and Futurism, as movements in theatre took place at the time of the social class war, the prejudice against women and their rights and the struggle to create an equal society. The two movements, of avant garde style contained three stage in which they were able to create; analysis...engagement...forward vision (Berghaus, 2005). Their method to create art and theatre was impelled on by their desire to attack the dominant ideology of bourgeois society (Berghaus, 2005) some claim that the word was discovered by opening a dictionary at random (Sawelson Gorse, 1998) Dada was a crusade in order to win back the promise land of creativity (Berghaus, 2005). Dada, as a movement, did not only take form of inspiring art, but it was a protest, to test the bourgeois society. Dada, as movement has a rampant and wild allure about it. The way in which it was approached and is approached today is similar in a sense of strength and power. In his manifesto Tzara is clear that dada was born of a need of independence (Tzara, 1918), this does not only imply that there was no independence in terms of art, but also that Constructivism needed to be moved forward. In Tristen Tzara s Dadaist Manifesto he does not only have a fighting attitude toward Dada, but also has resilient opinion on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Richardson Epistolary Style Samuel Richardson is an English writer who published during 18th century. He is famious for his three epistolary novels: Pamela: Or, Virtue Rewarded (1740), Clarissa: Or the History of a Young Lady (1748) and The History of Sir Charles Grandison (1753). Richardson s career was unusual for literature. He started to write when he was fifty years old but his creativity was still young. The History of Mrs. Beaumont is Richardson s last novelbut it is unfinished. It is the story of a lady‚ whom „his soul loved and it proves that Richardson s creativity was still working until the day he died. He liked to think about his self as being a hero of an unhappy love story. By using the epistolary form in his novels, Richardson wanted to induce the image... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Driven by clear moralistic intentions, he wrote the epistolary novel Pamela as a realistic sentimental parable based on an exemplary adventure. The initial area of conflict is defined morally, in foreground being the rich seducer whose mother dies, Mr. B. and his maid, Pamela Andrews. Richardson made in this way a sentimental tearful prose. The evolution of the plot is reproduced firstly by long letters of Pamela to her parents and by their responses. Dialog items, indeed reduced, are also introduced in these fictitious letters. The style is constantly punctuated by moralizing judgments and appeals to virtue, strongly standing out the echo of Puritan moral propagated by Richardson. Basic terms of conflict result from the aggressive behavior of the master tempted to seduce the maid and her worthy resistance, although she was in love with him. Sentimental parable has a happy ending. Converted to virtue by the young girl, Mr. B. who repents for his intentions, he proposed her a marriage. The victory of a simple and pure person just emphasizes once again the cautionary lesson from this work. The story is complex: the main heroine is Pamela Andrews, a beautiful 15 years old who was working as a maidservant in Bedfordshire. She was an innocent, pious and virtuous girl. After the death of Lady B, she remained due to her wish as a servant in the house. Mr. B, the new country landowner master after his mother death, started to make advances towards the young servant. He tried to seduce against her will and wanted to pay her to keep the secret about his mistake, but Pamela refused and told the stories of his attempts to the housekeeper, Mrs. Jervis. One night he was hidden in her room and tried to kiss and after this event the poor girl decided to go back to her impoverished parents to preserve her virtue. He proposed her to marry the chaplain from Lincolnshire, Mr. Williams, but she refused and was decided to go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Challenge For Property Qualifications For Voting One basis of political democracy in this period was the challenge to property qualifications for voting. It began in the American Revolution but culminated in the early nineteenth century. After the Revolution, no new state required property ownership to vote, and in older states, constitutional conventions in the 1820s and 1830s abolished property qualifications, partly because the growing number of wage earners who did not own much property demanded the vote. In the South, however, where large slave owners dominated politics and distrusted mass democracy, property requirements were eliminated only gradually and disappeared quite late, by 1860. The personal independence required of the citizen was henceforth located not in owning property but in owning one s self, a reflection of this period s individualism. The single exception to this democratizing trend was Rhode Island, which required voters to own considerable real estate or rental property. The state was a center of factory production, and many wage earners could not vote. In 1841, reformers met at a People s Convention and drafted a new state constitution that gave the vote to all adult men and stripped it from blacks. When the convention illegally ratified the constitution and inaugurated lawyer Thomas Dorr as governor, president John Tyler dispatched federal troops to the state, and the movement collapsed. By 1840, more than 90 percent of adult white men could vote. By then, America had a vibrant democratic system ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Murder Of Rapper Christopher Wallace No one was ever charged in the murder of rapper Christopher Wallace, aka. Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie Smalls, but I will show how a suspect would be tried if there were such a suspect. But first I would like to point out that this trial would be a media circus. To begin with the suspect could more than likely end up being one or more LAPD officers, a fact that the FBI has suggested in their report on Wallace that was released in 2011 (Federal Bureauof Investigation , n.d.). Then there is the gang aspect, Biggie had ties to the Crips, which he had reportedly hired to murder rival rapper Tupac Shakur, who was himself a Blood, just six months prior to his own murder. Subsequently, since no one has ever been formally charged in this case,I will try to use vague wording when referring to the suspect, and I will refer to him by of name Mr. Murder Suspect . I use the masculine only because there were no female suspects. After Mr. Murder Suspect was charged in the murder of Cristopher Wallace, arrested, formally charged at the first appearance, with the charges being upheld during the preliminary hearing, and then formally arraigned, where he plead not guilty to all charges. Now the trial is set to begin. (Schmalleger, 2014) The trial process begins with the selection of the jury. After the jury is selected the next stage is the opening statements. Since the prosecution has the burden of proof as to the defendant s guilt, the prosecutor s opening statement is given first. An ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. David by Donatello and Michelangelo David by Donatello and Michelangelo When thinking about a triumph over an unimaginable feat, the story of David and Goliath comes to mind. During the Italian Renaissance, Florence was under constant change and turmoil however David remained a consistent symbol of endless possibilities for the people. For the Florentines, David represented the essence of civic virtue courage, fortitude, and faith (Murray, 39). Various artists have revealed their own depictions of the young shepherd boy but two stand out among the masses. Donatello and Michelangelo both created masterpieces on the biblical subject although the approaches of each artist were completely diverse and caused unique reactions. In 1404, the very powerful Medici ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each David was sculpted in the naturalistic image that their creator envisioned. They also share the commonality of association with the Medici family, a very powerful group of people that loved the arts and was said to have commissioned Donatello for the David sculpture. Later on they became too powerful and the republic forced them out of control, resulting in the creation of another David as a celebration of their triumph. The earlier David stood in the courtyard of the Palazzo della Signoria, which also happened to be the very place that Michelangelo s piece was displayed upon completion. Despite the fact that the David s share time periods, political meanings, and origins, the two sculptures look completely different and evoke very different emotions. Perhaps the most significant difference is found in the choices made by the artists to place their sculpture before or after the battle against Goliath. Donatello s David is portrayed following the victory against the feared adversary. He is full of glory and stands on the head Goliath with his oversized sword clutched in his small hands. Michelangelo takes a different perspective and depicts David in the moment before battle with nothing but his sling in hand. This creates more of a feeling of anticipation and strength of courage. The determination in Michelangelo s sculpture s face is very apparent where Donatello creates a face that is calm and victorious. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Intellectual Property And The Copyright Act Of 1976 Intellectual property represents ideas created by minds of humans that require certain rights for their use. Intellectual property gives companies a competitive advantage and attracts the attention of other business partners and investors (Lee, 2016). With such importance, it is necessary for the law to protect these ideas from being used by unauthorized individuals. To shield from this, trade secrets, patents, and copyrights are used to protect the ownership of intellectual property(Legal Information Institute). A copyright gives the originator of literary, artistic, or music works the right to perform, publish, record, or print them. This can include sound recordings, paintings, photographs, films, melodies, television, radio broadcasts, cable programs, performances, and even codes to computer programs (Legal Information Institute). Since copyrights cover several different types of materials, the duration varies depending on what work is being protected. According to the Copyright Act of 1976, musical, artistic, and literary works created after January 1, 1978 have copyrights that last 70 years after the author has passed away, 95 years after publication, or 120 years from creation, whichever expires first (United States Copyright Office, 2011). However, the published editions of these works have copyrights that last 25 years after being first published. Broadcast and cable programs, on the other hand, have a copyright duration of 50 years after being created ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Balmond states that instead that one should see what needs to occur is a change in paradigm: acceptance of risk, and the building of internal processes that embrace conflict; that inexactness in structure should be viewed as positive, giving separate understandings of a singular structure on the basis of who is observing it, uses it or experiencing the space. Than it starts to focus on the informal, it is the method which includes thinking and doing that does not have distinct rules and fixed patterns. The informal does not have a set of standards or rules and methods it can be copied and applied to acts of making. The informal is a result of interactions between relationships, the informal acts as an agent of release and architecture are free from the traditional notions or rule of fixed grid and locked in cage . According to Balmond informal is a way of architecture shedding off the links of previous design movements and concepts that helps in a way of exploring and expanding the discipline. The informal is known as liberation for architecture. Some of it being conducive to its continued sovereignty and expansion and its fight to be the most powerful country in the free world, and some of it to help our allies in ways that they cannot always help themselves. While this is one example of foreign relations in the history of the United States, there are many others, such as the Revolutionary War, where the United States got its beginning, the War of 1812, where the United States had to once again defend itself from Great Britain in a great victory, America s involvement in the island nation of Hawaii, which had an interesting outcome, and the Spanish American war, which had many repercussions, some being good and some being bad. The best place to start with foreign relations of the United States is in the Revolutionary War when the United States fought Great Britain for their independence. This war began on April 19, 1775, and ended on September 3, 1783, with a surprising victory for the Americans. The war was caused by growing political changes between the Americans and the British. The British were continually taxing the American people while simultaneously giving them no say in the matter. This is where the famous phrase No taxation without representation comes from. It was not long after this point when the Americans decided to finally fight for their independence from the British and not only fight for better representation in their government. • 13. Divine Comedy Dante s Concept of Sin and Judgment in The Inferno Infidelity, murder, betrayal, and conspiracy all play an integral part in the story of the relationship between Jason and Medea. Jason is guilty of all four acts and Medea involves herself in three. Yet, perhaps, in the eyes of Dante, Medea might fall further into the realm of Dis than Jason. But, should she? And, is Dante s view of Jason and his sentence in Hell appropriate? From Dante s perspective, crimes of passion or desire are the least abhorrent and consequently deserve minimal punishment in comparison to what he believes are the more serious offenses. These sinners, the carnal, the gluttonous, the hoarders and wasters, along with the wrathful and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Violence without consideration, striking out at another in anger, frustration, hatred or selfish ambition is inherent in the nature of these actions. Accordingly Dante interprets them as being less detrimental to one s being than crimes of thought and meditation. In Dante s view the next circle of sin consists of acts of fraud. He classifies these sinners as seducers and panderers, flatterers, simoniacs, fortune tellers, grafters, hypocrites, thieves, evil counselors, sowers of discord, and counterfeiters or falsifiers. These are the souls who in life betrayed the confidence of another. They preyed on other people solely for gain and knowingly deceived without concern for their victims psyche or physical being. Yet Dante does not stop here. He further complicates fraud by adding the realm of compound fraud. Souls found in this circle of Hell did not betray just a stranger or acguaintance, but rather twisted the confidence of someone who loved and/or respected them. They defiled their own kin or country. They either took advantage of guests or of a host, perhaps within his own home. And, falling closest to the pit of Hell (and Lucifer) are those souls who betray the confidence of their lord or benefactor. All these unfortunate shadows of life are those who consciously sought to gain by lying to or by committing an act of treachery against someone who holds a special place in their life; someone who, in some way, they are ... Mountaintop removal for the purposes of coal mining is an incredibly harmful procedure taking place on our planet. This destructive action being taken by companies looking to access coal underneath mountains is not only damaging to the earth and environment, but is also affecting humans who live near these sites (The Destructive Process of Mountaintop Removal). Companies is West Virginia and Kentucky can take virtually any mountain they choose and level it because laws are created in the favor of coal mining companies. The process of mountaintop removal is a drawn out process that eventually leaves the earth it is leveling unusable. First, the mountain is cleared of trees, plants, and topsoil. The trees below are often cleared as well to make room for the rubble that will take their place. The next step involves blasting the top of the mountain. Ammonium nitrate explosives are used to blast through up to 1,000 feet of the mountain in order to access coal seams (The Destructive Process of Mountaintop Removal). During this time dust and toxic chemicals like silica, fall over surrounding areas sometimes even neighborhoods and communities. As noted before, silica is known to cause the lung disease silicosis, so it is disturbing that one of these removal sites is within several hundred yards of an elementary school (Hoffman). Yet, Roosevelt s backing was the catalyst that truly caused him to obtain victory. As president, Taft sustained the movement for reform. On top of that, lower tariffs would likewise cause a surge competition, forcing American manufacturers to lower their prices. All the leading businesses preferred high tariffs. Although Taft ran for president on a low tariff platform, yet in 1909 he settled to sign the Payne Aldrich Bill, which raised tariffs. This action tarnished Taft s record as a progressive. The tower is a rock formation known as a laccolithic butte. Laccolithic is a term used for large masses of rocks which were made of magma, typically under ground between rock strata. Most laccoliths are round and dome shaped, but devils tower has been eroded to the point of having a flat top and very steep sides. There is also no evidence of volcanic activity around Devils Tower, but some researchers just believe that it may have eroded away over time. Devils tower is also known as a stock, the most basic explanation is that it was once under the ground but is now exposed. Before devils tower was exposed it was surrounded and buried by sedimentary rocks, because sedimentary rocks and shale are a lot softer than igneous rock they eroded away and left the tower standing tall. There used to be water covering the land, this sea once covered most of the western united states long ago. This water played a huge part in eroding away the sediments and rock that once covered devils tower. The tower itself is also being slowly eroded, and one day may not even exist. The rock formation was discovered in 1875 on an expedition led by Colonel Richard Dodge, he spoke to indigenous peoples in the area and might of got a bad translation. She is a foil to Oedipus. Shortly thereafter Creon, Jocasta s brother, is returning from the Delphic oracle with the fateful words of the god s command: He fell; and now the god s command is plain: /Punish his takers off, whoe er they be. Immediately Oedipus boldly launches a campaign to do what is best for his people and for himself: I also, as is meet, will lend my aid To avenge this wrong to Thebes and to the god. Not for some far off kinsman, but myself, Shall I expel this poison in the blood; For whoso slew that king might have a mind To strike me too with his assassin hand. Oedipus, in his public proclamation regarding punishment for the killer of King Laius, shows more lenient treatment toward the guilty party if he confesses his crime: I summon him to make clean shrift to me./And if he shrinks, let him reflect that thus /Confessing he shall scape the capital charge . Oedipus, in his cross examination of the holy man Teiresias, shows his mastery to be more human and less godlike: Monster! thy silence would incense a flint. /Will nothing loose thy tongue? SAS represents audit risk in the form of a model that comprises three different risks. There is the control risk, the inherent risk and detection risk. This is known as the Audit Risk Model (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). As a way of increasing awareness of possible fraud, SAS No. 82 Consideration of Fraud in a Financial Statement Audit , was issued in 1997 (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). This SAS does not modify the basic ARM, but it expands on the guidance for the auditor s consideration of material fraud in conducting financial statement audits. The SAS increases an auditor s ability to detect fraud in an organization. Since the issuance of SAS No. 47, many other approaches of developing the ARM have been issued (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). One such approach is the belief function framework that is used to model the audit planning and evaluation process for accounts receivable. While using such an approach, it is easier to demonstrate the viability of the auditors. The approach also serves as an expert system to automate belief functions propagations in networks.
