Analysis of Biff in Death of a Salesman Essay
Camilla Tanzi
Year 12
An analysis of the character of Biff.
Biff Loman is portrayed as the root of Willy s mental illness and instability. He is also the only
member of his family who acknowledges his own failures in life. On the whole, Biff Loman stands
out as the most intriguing and strong character in Death of a Salesman. He is not a successful man
and never will be, he is however able to admit this, even in a harsh society as the one of the 1960s
America. Biff knows he is a nothing and tries to make his father see that he is no good. I am a dime
a dozen, Pop, and so are you. He begs for Willy to communicate with him and accept him for who
he is. Although Willy is forced by Biff to see some of his own failures, he never... Show more

The author could possibly be implying that Willy is actually envious of Bernard and even
though he doesn t want to admit it, his is just jealousy when he shows aversion towards him.
Willy has different ambitions for his sons futures than most people had for theirs at the time; he
believes that sport will be enough to help Biff succeed in the business world, make him rich and
notorious; That s just what I mean, Bernard can get the best marks in school, y understand, but
when he gets out in the business world, y understand, you re going to be five times ahead of him.
Arthur Miller provides us with a lot of evidence that Willy has been a bad influence on Biff.
While Biff is in some ways desperate to impress his father, he is also conscious about the fact
that Willy has failed his attempt to be successful in his career. He considers his dad s dreams
materialistic and unreachable. As a matter of fact, in the Requiem, even after his father s death,
Biff says: He had the wrong dreams. All, all wrong. Unlike Happy and Willy, Biff is self aware
and values facts; Willy never was a successful salesman and he never wanted to face the truth. On
the other hand, Biff is conscious about his failures and the weaknesses of his personality. During an
argument with his father, Biff admits that his dad made him so arrogant as a boy that now he just
can t handle taking

How Does Winston Lose Power In 1984
The highest people or person that holds power can be taken down. In the novel 1984 by
George Orwell, Big Brother and The Party are a totalitarian government, but can be taken down
by their citizens. People like Winston who think differently and know the world is different will
come together and make a difference. The Fall of Big Brother will be either a non violent protest
or a violent fight. Winston and Julia are people who are thinking differently and disobeying the
laws of
Oceania, Winston wants to remember how things were back then but Julia is more focused on
taking down the party somehow. Rebelling their government is very dangerous but if they had had
more people they would also have power to stop big brother. When O Brien says big ... Show more

Controlling everyone s thoughts and what they do is not impossible, Big
Brother having the telescreens help watch the citizens, surveillance is key. Taking away privacy
is brutal but understandable, no leader wants their citizens to plan something against them, but
no matter what they will protest somehow. Punishing the citizens to make them brainwashed can
work but if word gets out to the other nations it would look bad and maybe the other nations will
go to war to stop this, just like other nations do to stop communism. Big Brother is not loved, he
is feared because whoever talks bad about him they get vaporized and or vanish. The fear is what
might stop the different citizens from rebelling, they can easily be punished and put to death so
they cannot go against big brother. The Party might even get rid of Big Brother to have more
power or be a fair government. Rebelling will have two sides, worth losing people in the process
or failing all together O Brien tells Winston that all the party cares about is power, but the citizens
can build up the same power and take them down. Near the end O Brien explains that there are
others like
Winston, and that they are extinct. Furthermore there really is a chance to go against the

Evolution Scientific Theory
What is a theory in science?
A scientific theory is an explanation of an aspect of the world, based on facts that have been
frequently confirmed through observation and experiment or is often just speculations. Is
evolution just a theory? Evolution is considered a valid scientific theory as it cannot be expressed
in a concise mathematical equation so it is referred to as a theory, which does not make it more
accurate than a law. Natural selection, comparative embryology, comparative anatomy, DNA and
scientific contributions all support the theory of evolution.
Natural selection
Natural selection is a process in nature by which organisms are better adapted to their environment
tend survive and reproduce more likely than those who are not fit for their environment. For
example, peppered moth used to be a light colour with black spots but when the ... Show more

For example, embryos of many animals, from fish to humans each show similarities, which
suggest a common ancestor. In humans, it is obvious that embryos begin to develop what would
have formed into gills that our ancestors had. Embryos also develop a tail, which by the time
they are born it is gone which shows that ancestors were born with tails but we have evolved to no
longer be born with a tail. Comparative embryology also shows that many different life forms
experience similar stages of development, which points to common origins. Comparative anatomy
is the study of similarities and differences in the anatomy of different species. It is closely related
to evolutionary biology and phylogeny (evolution of species). Comparative anatomy has served
evidence for evolution, which indicates various organisms share a common ancestor. Comparative
anatomy is the first line of reasoning in determining the connection of

Graham Greene s The Destructors
Graham Greene s The Destructors, initially, can be interpreted as a telling of senseless violence
that is carried out by group of destructive and out of control boys, but, in all actuality, the story
explores an idea that directly relates destruction with the idea of creation. The text utilizes the
destruction of the house to display how the boys are directly destroying their own naive ideals.
Subsequently, creating a better life for themselves, which allow for the old man to move on from
his pre warlife. But, underneath this argument, the text ultimately displays the destruction of Old
England and the rise of the new post war generation. Demonstrating how the moral interpretation of

This is symbolized by the home being the last remaining piece of the old world that is still
intact; it represents the beauty and the naivete of the pre war world. Now the world is forced to
think more realistically and the people in it understand the ramifications of their actions,
resulting in a negative image being placed on pieces of that world. The boys demonstrate this
idea when they decide to destroy the house even though they found it to be remarkably beautiful
(314). The boys resent the old world for what they had created for the new post world generation.
They even go to the extent to burn the money instead of keeping it for themselves (318). By
destroying the money, the boys show how all pieces of the old world must be destroyed in order
to rebuild what was destroyed. With each piece of house that is torn down, the boys are
metaphorically destroying the last remaining memories of pre war England, resulting in the new
post war generation to completely take over. Subsequently creating a new society in order to create
a new England that better than before, to ensure that the pain and destruction never happens

Inevitable Fate In Oedipus The King
Inevitable Fate
Oedipus The King by Sophocles is a story of great tragedy. Oedipus lived in Corinth with his
adoptive father. He hears of a prophecy that threatened his family and decides to leave Corinth to
defy his fate. Oedipus biological parents also heard the same Prophecy and sent Oedipus to be killed
when he was just a baby. The Servant responsible for the task could not kill Oedipus, so he left
him in the mountains to be found. Oedipus then unknowingly found his way into the kingdom of
Thebes where his biological parents ruled. Oedipus became king after saving Thebes from a sphinx
by completing its riddle.
He is called upon again when the kingdom is hit by a plague and is ravished by hunger. While
trying to save his kingdom it is discovered that Oedipus prophecy had come true. He had
unknowingly killed his father and laid with his mother Jocasta the Queen of Thebes. The news of
the prophecy being fulfilled sends Oedipus and Jocasta into a feverish hysteria. Jocasta runs to
her room and hangs herself after the news. Oedipus, looking for Jocasta finds her dead body and
is in such shock that he takes his own eyes. Oedipus then saves his kingdom by being banished and
lifting the curse off Thebes.
Oedipus The King is full of instances that would portray both the free will and fate of Oedipus. All
the choices he makes throughout the play are his own, but the prophecy he aims to avoid still
becomes his reality. While reading the play, the illusion that Oedipus was

Malcolm X Thesis
No man in our time aroused fear and hatred in the white man as did Malcolm, because in him the
white man sense an implacable foe who could not be had for any price a man unreservedly
committed to the cause of liberating the black man in American society rather than integrating the
black man into that society. (Haley XXV)
Without a doubt Malcolm X was one of the most brilliantly moving speakers that has ever lived.
His strong voice and commanding presence paired with his wit and sheer intelligence brought a
people to their feet and struck fear in the hearts of a nation. Malcolm X excited and inspired a
passive people to take a stand for real. Malcom X was an essential historical figure. The black
community needed Malcolm to teach them to fight back, to unify the people, and to inspire the

Malcolm was not a black supremacist and was not racist towards whites. In his speech The
Ballot or the Bullet given on April 3, 1964 in Cleveland, OH, Malcolm explained, Now in
speaking like this, it doesn t mean that we re anti white, but it does mean we re anti exploitation,
we re anti degradation, we re anti oppression. And if the white man doesn t want us to be anti him,
let him stop oppressing and exploiting and degrading us.
Why would anyone feel comfortable living in a society integrated with the people who instilled in
them the belief that they were subpar and actually taught them to hate themselves?
Hardships can pull people apart, but Malcolm found that common factor that unified people to come
together. He made them realize that they all came from the same place and had the same struggles,
and that is what brought them together. The only thing that all blacks in America had in common
was the fact that none of their black ancestors originated in the United States. They had all been

Reflection Paper On The Movie Precious
After speaking with my classmate, the film I choose to watch was Precious because she gave it
a glowing review and highly recommend it. Furthermore, the movie was a perfect fit for me as I
have personally not had many interactions with poor inner city people of color, and the limited
interactions I have had were not in the environment where they live their daily lives. Additionally, I
asked my girlfriend if she had a movie recommendation out of the list of films that were available
after removing the movies I had already seen. Ultimately, Precious stood out to her as an excellent
movie that painted an insightful illustration of life in the poor inner city community. Although she
saw the movie several years ago, she recalled that the filmevoked many strong emotional responses
which made a lasting impact and enduring perspective. Once she gave that feedback, the decision
of which movie to watch was not difficult. As I watched the film, I, like my girlfriend, experienced
a wide range of emotions which included; anger, fear, empathy, frustration, and pride. For example,
I was frustrated when Preciouses mother berated her after Preciouses teacher visited the pairs home
and informed both of the opportunity that Precious had to attend an alternative school by calling
her stupid, asking if she thought she was better than her, and physically abusing her. Also, I was
frustrated when the mother forced Precious to overeat when Precious did not prepare the mother s

The Limitations of GDP as a Measure of Well Being
The Limitations of GDP as a Measure of Well Being A primary aim of governments economic
policy includes economic development and management. The presence of a growing economy
is perceived as a positive characteristic; with increasing gross domestic product (GDP) being
interpreted as positive sign of social well being (van den Bergh, 2008). Countries with a high
GDP have higher taxes paid to government, who may use those taxes to provide public services
such as education and health, which in turn supports the well being of the citizens. Despite this
the measure is often criticized as an indicator of well being. To appreciate the value of GDP as a
measure it is necessary to look at what it is and how it may be used as well as recognize the
limitation of using GDP. GDP is a measure of economic activity in an economy. The measure can
be calculated in three ways, measuring the output by calculating the value of all the goods and
services produced within a country, as expenditure, measuring the value of all goods and services
purchased with in the economy, which will include the value of exports, but required reduction of
imports, lastly the income measure, where GDP is measured through the level of income
generated, mainly through profits and wages (BBC News, 2011). Therefore, the GDP seen
measurement of economic activity and since the 1960s there has been a proliferation of statistics
utilizing the GDP, usually on a per capita basis, as a proxy to indicate social welfare

Explain Why Hitler Lost The Battle Of Stalingrad
Adolf Hitler is often thought of as one of the most malicious dictators that has ever walked the
planet. He was a good leader that backed up his claims to the public with action, but he is not
without fault when discussing how he lost the war. One of the mistakes that led to Hitler losing
the war was his overconfidence in his Luftwaffe at the Battle of Dunkirk. Another reason Hitler
lost World War II was because he declared war on the U.S, believing that his army was more
powerful. Furthermore, an additional error made by Hitler that led to the eventual downfall of his
empire, was him being overconfident in the Sixth Army at the Battle of Stalingrad. Hitler lost World
War II because he had too much confidence in Germanys military.

this was a personal vendetta against Joseph Stalin. The battle was fought from July 17, 1942 until

Multicultural Curriculum For A Multicultural Classroom
When I first started this class I was aware of multicultural curriculum but I was not aware of how
important it was in a classroom setting. As the weeks have gone by in this class, I have learned that
multicultural curriculum is important because it s a way for teachers to include all children from
diverse backgrounds. As we ve have progressed in the study of multicultural curriculum we have
learned to address important topics such as biases, social justice, stereotypes, the development of
identityand how to communicate with parents.

(Igoa p. 44). (Robert Cole p. 3).
There are many factors that can help a child achieve a better outcome in a school setting, as
teachers we should be able to identify each of our student s individual strengths, their pastimes and
how can we support their needs so that they can master their full potential.
Early childhood teachers play an important role in supporting and increasing nondiscriminatory
learning and appropriate developmental outcomes for all children. (Madeleine saffigna p.5). It is
important for educators to believe that all children deserve opportunities and materials to achieve
the highest potential of learning. Teacher s need to assist children to distinguish and to put to
practice these characteristics, it is important for teachers to instantly intercede when conflicting
messages of one s identity are expressed. Classrooms transform into a prominent place where
children can learn to be content with themselves and their families this helps them to notice the
differences amongst each other and to treat people respectfully and to speak up when they feel that
others are being biased.
It is essential for teachers to emulate on their own perception of the children they render services to
and the possible revelation of diversity. To have a successful multicultural classroom is important
for teachers to accept the lives of the families and their children.

Comparing Ebola And West Nile Virus
Ebola West Nile
Ebola Virus Disease is a deadly disease mostly affecting humans and primates. West Nile Virus is
spread between humans, commonly through mosquito bites. Ebola and West Nile Virus are both
potentially fatal infectious diseases that are often successful at evading our bodies immune
response and have impacted many lives.
Ebola and West Nile virushave negative effects on human health. Both Ebola and West Nile virus
ara capable of disabling protein receptors within cells. This allows the pathogen to continue to
spread through the body, therefore evading the immune system. Ebola causes flu like symptoms,
including fever, headaches, muscle pain, fatigue, diarrhea, vomiting, and even unexplained
hemorrhaging. These symptoms may appear anywhere from 2 to 21 days after exposure. Survival
rate is dependant on the person s immune system due to the lack of a specific treatment.
Symptoms are typically treated as they appear. West Nile virus, however, is different. Most people
infected do not experience symptoms, while a small amount (1 in 5) will experience symptoms
similar to Ebola. About 1 in 150 people will experience severe symptoms such as high fever,

September 30, 2014 The Meaning behind Jokes. Some researcher say that laughter is the best
medicine a human can get. There are many different ways to get a good laugh. Whether it s from
seeing a funny movie, watching funny videos on the internet, or telling jokes with your friends.
Personally, my favorite way to get a quick laugh is to exchange funny jokes between my friends.
Some of the best jokes are the ones that might come off a little racist if said to the wrong person.
It is the racism that makes many of these jokes funny. For instance; many polish jokes can easily

reliever when they join others in a good laugh about oneself. A philosopher by the name of

are directed towards a certain ethnic group are racist. That we need to be able to distinguish the

English Language Change
How Changes in the English Language Will Affect Teaching L2 Students
Language is always changing. The English we speak today is different from that used by
Shakespeare, and vastly different from that used a thousand years ago. Part of what it means to be
a living language is that it will change over time. The reasons for these changes can be myriad. In
recent years, the factors most responsible for changing the English language, both in terms of its
mechanics and in terms of who is speaking it have been technology and globalism. The advent of
the internet, with its attendant ability for real time communication, has changed the language
because people are now writing more like they speak, and they are finding more efficient ways to
do both. The global business community is also having an affect on the English Language, because
it is now the Lingua Franca of choice. English has become the language most people use both in
business and online. This is changing, though, as other languages become more widely spoken
across the world and as the global village allows people from non English speaking nationalities to
find their voices. It is becoming more important for people to be multilingual if they want to
participate in a global community. These changes are important for teachers of English Language
students to understand because it is becoming less important to sound like a native English speaker
and more important to teach the language in the context of the local culture. Also,

The Influence Of Rome On Today s Legal System
The Roman Empire was a vast and powerful one. Stretching from modern day Spain to the Middle
East, and reaching from Britain to the northern tips of Africa, this empire was certainly one of the
largest empires in history. Their strength was also evident in the fact that the Empire lasted over
500 years. Control of such a large area of land and the Mediterranean Sea allowed for the spread of
their Roman culture. Although the Roman Empireand Republic no longer exist today, the ideas and
designs of ancient Romelive on in our modern day art, law, engineering, languages, and literature.

During the Renaissance, artists moved away from Christian ideas and turned to the topics from
Greek and Roman mythology to create their masterpieces. Just like the Romans did with their

Renaissance artists used techniques and ideas from Roman art to create their own masterpieces.
We still use Roman art today in teachings and as an example of classical art. Lastly, ancient
Roman engineering has still survived in the technology of today s world. The engineering
successes of Rome are still around today. We use the technology designed by Romans to make

Alexander Plutarch s Influence On Alexander The Great
Best known for his writings of leading figures in antiquity and his essays on ethics and virtue,
Plutarch s biography on Alexander the Great and his vision would influence tremendously upon
future western writers in regard to the interpretation of Alexander the Great. Plutarch s Alexander s

mankind and fusion between civilizations. According to Plutarch, Alexander rejected the traditional
Greek view that Persian were barbarians, and instead proclaimed that Alexander was intentionally

Although this was true for me, I made a change to try and see others viewpoints. It was easily
one of the most difficult introspective change I have ever done, mostly because I only saw things
as black and white. This was probably due to my inexperience of others/ignorance and because I
was too stubborn to believe that anyone other than me was right. But it wasn t these factors or
thoughts alone that determined how I was, or am to be. The other factors were simply me being
kind of sheltered and not knowing about others situations. The main factors that led me to
overcome these obstacles of egocentric thinking was due to my parents, sports, and world... Show

Sports were always a way for me to escape reality and go into something better, and really have
fun. Although there is always one year where I was getting stressed out more about making
varsity. But as I went and did more and more sports I overcame this stress because of all the
friends I have made through these sports. Now although sports are great, there was a greater
lesson I learned because of sports. Remember me telling you about making friends from sports,
well those friends would tell me about their home life, or difficulties they had. The stuff they
told me about their lives was incomprehensible to me, mainly their father/family problems
(arrests or deaths). After hearing these situations I realized my life was a good one, I had a
good family, and a house to live in. But the effect their life stories had on me was profound, I
realized everyone s situations are different, and I realized I should try to understand others more
and not judge them on outside appearances. Plus I made some of my greatest friends doing these
sports, who of which would push me to become a better person and really understand others and
try to become a friend to anyone. But although I try to become a friend to all, it is easier said than
done, mostly because I m human. So now because of sports I have tried to judge others less and

Atomic Bomb Conspiracy
The natural sciences have a lot in common with Pandora s box. Both contain any number of
wonders and possibilities within them, the promise of untold riches and benefits just as great as
the threat of disaster and pain. The fear of catastrophe can keep the scientific box shut, and
science may not progress at all. For this reason, scientists should only be held responsible for the
application of their discoveries to an extent that does not give them blame for the negative. For
should scientists be blamed for the tragedies that result from their work, not only do they become a
scapegoat for the abusers of their knowledge, but the process of scientific discovery itself becomes
hindered by this fear of the unknown.
To further elaborate this comparison ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This again shows the aforementioned duality of scientific research, and just what is risked when
scientists are discouraged from discovery. Another field of science that brings up this issue of
moral responsibility is cloning. As a field that is currently being furthered, it is perfect to
illustrate the risks of placing full moral responsibility on the scientists. There are undoubtedly
negative practical and moral implications and applications to cloning. Numerous works in
literature and film have explored them. These include the film The Island, which brings
therapeutic cloning to the extreme, with clones being grown in order to later be harvested for
whatever their template may need. The TV show Star Wars: The Clone Wars deals heavily with
the moral issues regarding the creation of clones as soldiers, their dehumanization and the removal
of their free will. The film Moon presents a similar situation, with clone workers rather than
soldiers. To a smaller extent, Jurassic Park does so as well,

Reward and Motivation Essay
The purpose of this paper is to write about roles of reward systems in the 10th Security Forces
Squadron (SFS) located at the United States Air Force Academy. I will discuss whether I believe in
the current reward system and whether the reward system motivates employees to achieve the unit
s organization goals. Moreover, from my opinion, I will discus whether employees are satisfied
with the current reward systemand what I would do to improve the current system to make more
effective.
Currently, the 10th Security Forces Squadron has many reward systems in place. One of which is a
100 percent tuition assistance program (TA) for all active duty military members who attend college.

Therefore, their flight chiefs will look at the employee s uniforms, dress appearance, hygiene,
and work performance to evaluate who will get an extra day off. This type of reward systems
has worked very well within the unit; it has worked so well that the operations section is now
rotating every Friday off for each employee, so that every person that works in operations will get
one Friday off a month.
This fringe benefit has boosted flight work; customer service throughout the Air Force Academy,
increase work production in the office and the quality of work has improved.
Personally, I believe in both TA and extra time off without being charged for leave. TA has
proven to help people meet their dreams in life with completing a college degree. Military
members that really want to go to college regardless of who is paying for the bill will attend and
complete the degree program. Younger members of the 10th SFS need to realize that nothing
come free in life and what s worth working hard for regardless of the costs is worth having. Those
military members, who sacrifice regardless of what TA pays for, will get ahead in life and in their
Air Force careers.
The fringe benefit of time off is AWSOME! Once the 10th SFS established the criteria on what a
person needs to do to have

Becoming A Writer Analysis
I want to become a writer when I was a small girl. I have learned that if I want to turn the writer, I
need the qualities such as observation, patience, discipline and the love of writing. First of all, I
have to observe everything in my own life then notice all of them carefully because it is helpful
materials I can use later. Furthermore, it is necessary to read and re read to see how the authors
develop, arrange their problems that is another essential form of observation. Secondly, I need to
learn how to be patient in any time as writingis not easy stuff. There are some days you will see the
end is so far away as well as you realize that the worst things with the writerare a empty word. Just

Animal Personality As An Individual s Distinguishing...
Abstract:
Animal personality is defined as an individual s distinguishing pattern of behaviour that remains
consistent over time (Pervin and John 1997). Recently animal personality has become an important
area of research. Psychologist have been interested in the role of individual differences in
behaviour that may reflect temperament or personalities. This line of research has resulted in a
number of studies revealing individual differences in personality traits in such diverse species as
primates, marine mammals, insects, fish, invertebrates, and birds (Gosling, 2001). To add to the
growing literature on animal personality, the personality of five Asian elephants at Melbourne Zoo
was explored. The personality of these elephants was rated ... Show more content on

The elephants are suffering from a shrinking size habitat due to the rapidly growing human
populations. Majority of the Asian elephant s once spacious habitat has been separated into small
fragments due to human settlements, plantations and large developments such as mines and roads.
The illegal hunting and trade of these critically endangered animals is also contributing to the
decrease in numbers. In Asian elephants, only the male elephants carry tusks, therefore hunting is
aimed at the males only. Not only is the poaching of the males killing a large proportion of the
Asian elephant population but it is also raising a concern about the genetic effects. When these
tusked males are killed, the number in the male population decreases resulting in a skewed sex
ratios. The major concern with this is that it may lead to inbreeding and eventually to a low
breeding success which will then bring down the population number even more.
To help save the Asian Elephant populations, Melbourne Zoo has set up the Cooperative
Conservation Breeding Program. The aim of their program is to create an insurance population of
the species. Since the establishment of this breeding program in 2006, three pregnancies have been
achieved. For these breeding programs to be successful the Zoo needs to set up an environment that
each elephant feels comfortable in.
For an animal to feel comfortable in an environment, the enclosure must be set up so the

execution, and slaughter. Well so did Adolf Hitler, he had the idea of exterminating the whole

dictators in history. Hitler killed Jews in ways that each death was worse than the last. He held
mass shootings, medical experiments, and extermination centers. Hitler put them in gas chambers,
overworked them and starved them, eventually leading to disease. Out of nine million Jews Hitler
killed six million in Europe alone and victimized millions more. Can you imagine being told to

Technology And The World s Political Climate Forced The...
The United States has lead the way in transforming technology and changing the conduct of war
over the past sixty five years; working to create a safer, more stable and prosperous world for
America, our allies, and partners abroad. However, modern warfare is evolving rapidly, leading
to increasingly contested battlespace in the air, sea, and space domains as well as cyberspace in
which our forces enjoyed dominance in our most recent conflicts. Changes in warfare and the world
s political climate forced the United Statesto change their strategic focus and redefine their outlook
for the future; based on new technologies, new centers of power, and a world that is growing more
volatile, more unpredictable, and in some instances more threatening to the United States.
In March of 2014 the Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) revised the DOD strategy to align with
current threats and budgetary constraints. The QDR started by listing the three pillars of strategic
focus. The first pillar is protecting the homeland. The need to concentrate on homeland protection
is increasing in importance due to amplified threats, and preparing for catastrophes; natural
disaster relief is part of homeland protection. The second pillar is global security; deterring
conflicts before they begin while strengthening our partnerships around the globe. The third pillar
is projecting power and winning decisively; whether that s to be able to respond to conflict, or
whether it s to come to the aid

Wash Your Nails Research Paper
Every girl wants a great set of nails. We want them to be long, strong, and shiny. When you sit
down and do your nails, the last thing you want is the paint to smudge, chip, or even your nail to
totally break. ANNOYING! Just to give you all a brief backstory on my nails, my nails used to be
fabulous before I moved to LA. Once I arrive, they became brittle and cracked at the tips. They
were not pretty. Even paying for a quick $20 manicurenever really helped. So I turned to my great
source and knowledgeable pal, Google. Here are some quick tips I would like to share.
1. Do Not Wash Your Hands
I always thought you were to wash your hands and nails prior to applying your nail color to get rid
of any debris or polish remover. However, this can cause your nails and cuticles to trap moisture
which will later help promote your polish to chip. Instead, I would recommend taking a cotton ball
and applying some rubbing alcohol to help remove any debris from your nails. ... Show more

Sanitize Your Utensils
I had no clue that I should sanitize my emory board, but it does make total sense. When using
clippers, cuticle cutters, files, and buffers, it is highly recommended to disinfect with warm
water and antibacterial soap or Barbicide. Clippers are prone to catching bacteria from the tip of
your fingers, just below your nails. This bacteria can grow rapidly if the clippers are stored in a
bathroom where it is dark, hot and humid. If the bacteria are left on the clippers, you are allowing
the bacteria to get under your nails which can help aid in

A Common Practice
A common practice amongst these groups that ultimately led to the breakout of the rebellion was
the taking of oaths by the members of these Kenyan nationalist groups. Initially, the oaths were
found to be an unfavorable practice; Jomo Kenyatta opposed the implementation of an oath for
members initially, but over time oaths were taken primarily to rally support; however, the
people who took these oaths were carefully selected in the hopes of rallying support for the
cause. The typical oath taker was a man of seniority who had a strong moral outlook and could
serve as a role model for the younger members to aspire to. These oaths were viewed by the British
as horrific, acts of evil and savagery that displayed the animalistic nature of those who were trying
to revolt against them. Those Brits who witnessed these oaths claimed that they were self mutilating
events involving human blood and flesh, and even the flesh of other animals like goats into whose
flesh these naked heathens ate and drank from. According to the Kikuyuculture, this was normal
religious practice they believed was similar to a conversion ceremony for someone evangelical, but
seeing as the British governmental authorities would not view them in this way, it was in the best
interests of other Europeans to discredit this Kikuyu claim and treat them as ferocious rebels
(Brendon 555). With these rituals causing the Africans to fall under such scrutiny, it can be argued
that treating them as violent criminals

Model Of Ols Model
whether the independent variable had a positive or negative relationship to the dependent variable.
This was helpful when studying the graduated colours map of number of votes to determine how
the variables could help explain the patterns seen on the map. Once a variable was deemed
suitable, an OLS model was run to test the hypothesis that the number of votes is a function of the
chosen variable. This process was repeated with different groups of variables while assessing the
outputs and altering the composition of variables. The checks included ensuring that the

This model was chosen because it experienced the most significant increase in adjusted R2 (up
from 90.5%) and a decrease in AIC (down from 773.9) from the OLS model. The coefficients that
were computed by the GWR tool and mapped (Figure 2) helped to demonstrate that each
explanatory variable and its associated coefficient vary spatially in its predictive strength of the
dependent variable. As we know, there is spatial autocorrelation and relationships in the data. This
is not necessarily negative but it is important to capture the structure of the correlation in the model
residues with explanatory variables. Until then, the model cannot necessarily be trusted (ESRI,
2016). However, the high level of significance of the p value (0.0000) and the z value (6.059441)
indicate that the model can be trusted. The small p value indicates that the coefficients are not zero
and therefore the explanatory variables are statistically significant predictors of the behaviour of the
dependent variable (ESRI, 2016). The small dataset is more troubling. Some future solutions for
eliminating spatial autocorrelation include continuing to resample variables until there is no more
statistically significant spatial autocorrelation (clustering). Unfortunately, that was not
accomplished during the OLS regression without interfering with the ability of the GWR to run.
The output of the OLS

Being Sane In Insane Places Analysis

The Argument Against Ban On Tobacco Related Advertising
WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT: UNIT 4 ETHICS CASE STUDY
The arguments in favor of the ban on tobacco related advertising in India are plentiful. First,
proponents of the ban assert that the state has the right to intervene in the name of public health.
Second, there are other precedents for dangerous or potentially dangerous products advertising
being restricted such as firearms or pharmaceuticals. Third, tobacco related deaths are projected to
increase over the next few years and we need to take action to stem the flow of new users. Fourth,
youth targeted advertising campaigns are wrong and the tobacco industry s own released
documents indicate that the 14 24 year old demographic is targeted as tomorrow s cigarette
business , these campaigns need to stop to reduce the number of young people getting addicted to
cigarettes. Fifth, policies aimed at reducing tobacco use are forecast to increase employment
despite the tobacco industry itself contracting due to the fact that the money spent on tobacco
products does not leave the economy if not spent on those products but actually is used on more
complex products. Finally, complete bans on tobacco marketing result in reduced use of tobacco
products over time according to studies in Norway, Finland, New Zealand and France, but the ban
needs to cover all media outlets.
Those opposed to the ban on tobacco advertising in India have their own logic for opposing the
restrictions. Oppositionists first assert that a restriction on

  • 2. Analysis of Biff in Death of a Salesman Essay Camilla Tanzi Year 12 An analysis of the character of Biff. Biff Loman is portrayed as the root of Willy s mental illness and instability. He is also the only member of his family who acknowledges his own failures in life. On the whole, Biff Loman stands out as the most intriguing and strong character in Death of a Salesman. He is not a successful man and never will be, he is however able to admit this, even in a harsh society as the one of the 1960s America. Biff knows he is a nothing and tries to make his father see that he is no good. I am a dime a dozen, Pop, and so are you. He begs for Willy to communicate with him and accept him for who he is. Although Willy is forced by Biff to see some of his own failures, he never... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author could possibly be implying that Willy is actually envious of Bernard and even though he doesn t want to admit it, his is just jealousy when he shows aversion towards him. Willy has different ambitions for his sons futures than most people had for theirs at the time; he believes that sport will be enough to help Biff succeed in the business world, make him rich and notorious; That s just what I mean, Bernard can get the best marks in school, y understand, but when he gets out in the business world, y understand, you re going to be five times ahead of him. Arthur Miller provides us with a lot of evidence that Willy has been a bad influence on Biff. While Biff is in some ways desperate to impress his father, he is also conscious about the fact that Willy has failed his attempt to be successful in his career. He considers his dad s dreams materialistic and unreachable. As a matter of fact, in the Requiem, even after his father s death, Biff says: He had the wrong dreams. All, all wrong. Unlike Happy and Willy, Biff is self aware and values facts; Willy never was a successful salesman and he never wanted to face the truth. On the other hand, Biff is conscious about his failures and the weaknesses of his personality. During an argument with his father, Biff admits that his dad made him so arrogant as a boy that now he just can t handle taking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Does Winston Lose Power In 1984 The highest people or person that holds power can be taken down. In the novel 1984 by George Orwell, Big Brother and The Party are a totalitarian government, but can be taken down by their citizens. People like Winston who think differently and know the world is different will come together and make a difference. The Fall of Big Brother will be either a non violent protest or a violent fight. Winston and Julia are people who are thinking differently and disobeying the laws of Oceania, Winston wants to remember how things were back then but Julia is more focused on taking down the party somehow. Rebelling their government is very dangerous but if they had had more people they would also have power to stop big brother. When O Brien says big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Controlling everyone s thoughts and what they do is not impossible, Big Brother having the telescreens help watch the citizens, surveillance is key. Taking away privacy is brutal but understandable, no leader wants their citizens to plan something against them, but no matter what they will protest somehow. Punishing the citizens to make them brainwashed can work but if word gets out to the other nations it would look bad and maybe the other nations will go to war to stop this, just like other nations do to stop communism. Big Brother is not loved, he is feared because whoever talks bad about him they get vaporized and or vanish. The fear is what might stop the different citizens from rebelling, they can easily be punished and put to death so they cannot go against big brother. The Party might even get rid of Big Brother to have more power or be a fair government. Rebelling will have two sides, worth losing people in the process or failing all together O Brien tells Winston that all the party cares about is power, but the citizens can build up the same power and take them down. Near the end O Brien explains that there are others like Winston, and that they are extinct. Furthermore there really is a chance to go against the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A scientific theory is an explanation of an aspect of the world, based on facts that have been frequently confirmed through observation and experiment or is often just speculations. Is evolution just a theory? Evolution is considered a valid scientific theory as it cannot be expressed in a concise mathematical equation so it is referred to as a theory, which does not make it more accurate than a law. Natural selection, comparative embryology, comparative anatomy, DNA and scientific contributions all support the theory of evolution. Natural selection Natural selection is a process in nature by which organisms are better adapted to their environment tend survive and reproduce more likely than those who are not fit for their environment. For example, embryos of many animals, from fish to humans each show similarities, which suggest a common ancestor. In humans, it is obvious that embryos begin to develop what would have formed into gills that our ancestors had. Embryos also develop a tail, which by the time they are born it is gone which shows that ancestors were born with tails but we have evolved to no longer be born with a tail. Comparative embryology also shows that many different life forms experience similar stages of development, which points to common origins. Comparative anatomy is the study of similarities and differences in the anatomy of different species. It is closely related to evolutionary biology and phylogeny (evolution of species). Comparative anatomy has served evidence for evolution, which indicates various organisms share a common ancestor. • 6. Graham Greene s The Destructors Graham Greene s The Destructors, initially, can be interpreted as a telling of senseless violence that is carried out by group of destructive and out of control boys, but, in all actuality, the story explores an idea that directly relates destruction with the idea of creation. The text utilizes the destruction of the house to display how the boys are directly destroying their own naive ideals. Subsequently, creating a better life for themselves, which allow for the old man to move on from his pre warlife. This is symbolized by the home being the last remaining piece of the old world that is still intact; it represents the beauty and the naivete of the pre war world. Now the world is forced to think more realistically and the people in it understand the ramifications of their actions, resulting in a negative image being placed on pieces of that world. The boys demonstrate this idea when they decide to destroy the house even though they found it to be remarkably beautiful (314). The boys resent the old world for what they had created for the new post world generation. They even go to the extent to burn the money instead of keeping it for themselves (318). By destroying the money, the boys show how all pieces of the old world must be destroyed in order to rebuild what was destroyed. With each piece of house that is torn down, the boys are metaphorically destroying the last remaining memories of pre war England, resulting in the new post war generation to completely take over. Furthermore, the movie was a perfect fit for me as I have personally not had many interactions with poor inner city people of color, and the limited interactions I have had were not in the environment where they live their daily lives. Additionally, I asked my girlfriend if she had a movie recommendation out of the list of films that were available after removing the movies I had already seen. Ultimately, Precious stood out to her as an excellent movie that painted an insightful illustration of life in the poor inner city community. Although she saw the movie several years ago, she recalled that the filmevoked many strong emotional responses which made a lasting impact and enduring perspective. Once she gave that feedback, the decision of which movie to watch was not difficult. As I watched the film, I, like my girlfriend, experienced a wide range of emotions which included; anger, fear, empathy, frustration, and pride. For example, I was frustrated when Preciouses mother berated her after Preciouses teacher visited the pairs home and informed both of the opportunity that Precious had to attend an alternative school by calling her stupid, asking if she thought she was better than her, and physically abusing her. • 12. The Limitations of GDP as a Measure of Well Being The Limitations of GDP as a Measure of Well Being A primary aim of governments economic policy includes economic development and management. The presence of a growing economy is perceived as a positive characteristic; with increasing gross domestic product (GDP) being interpreted as positive sign of social well being (van den Bergh, 2008). Countries with a high GDP have higher taxes paid to government, who may use those taxes to provide public services such as education and health, which in turn supports the well being of the citizens. Despite this the measure is often criticized as an indicator of well being. To appreciate the value of GDP as a measure it is necessary to look at what it is and how it may be used as well as recognize the limitation of using GDP. GDP is a measure of economic activity in an economy. The measure can be calculated in three ways, measuring the output by calculating the value of all the goods and services produced within a country, as expenditure, measuring the value of all goods and services purchased with in the economy, which will include the value of exports, but required reduction of imports, lastly the income measure, where GDP is measured through the level of income generated, mainly through profits and wages (BBC News, 2011). The English we speak today is different from that used by Shakespeare, and vastly different from that used a thousand years ago. Part of what it means to be a living language is that it will change over time. The reasons for these changes can be myriad. In recent years, the factors most responsible for changing the English language, both in terms of its mechanics and in terms of who is speaking it have been technology and globalism. The advent of the internet, with its attendant ability for real time communication, has changed the language because people are now writing more like they speak, and they are finding more efficient ways to do both. The global business community is also having an affect on the English Language, because it is now the Lingua Franca of choice. English has become the language most people use both in business and online. This is changing, though, as other languages become more widely spoken across the world and as the global village allows people from non English speaking nationalities to find their voices. It is becoming more important for people to be multilingual if they want to participate in a global community. These changes are important for teachers of English Language students to understand because it is becoming less important to sound like a native English speaker and more important to teach the language in the context of the local culture. In Asian elephants, only the male elephants carry tusks, therefore hunting is aimed at the males only. Not only is the poaching of the males killing a large proportion of the Asian elephant population but it is also raising a concern about the genetic effects. When these tusked males are killed, the number in the male population decreases resulting in a skewed sex ratios. The major concern with this is that it may lead to inbreeding and eventually to a low breeding success which will then bring down the population number even more. Clippers are prone to catching bacteria from the tip of your fingers, just below your nails. This bacteria can grow rapidly if the clippers are stored in a bathroom where it is dark, hot and humid. If the bacteria are left on the clippers, you are allowing the bacteria to get under your nails which can help aid in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. A Common Practice A common practice amongst these groups that ultimately led to the breakout of the rebellion was the taking of oaths by the members of these Kenyan nationalist groups. Initially, the oaths were found to be an unfavorable practice; Jomo Kenyatta opposed the implementation of an oath for members initially, but over time oaths were taken primarily to rally support; however, the people who took these oaths were carefully selected in the hopes of rallying support for the cause. The typical oath taker was a man of seniority who had a strong moral outlook and could serve as a role model for the younger members to aspire to. These oaths were viewed by the British as horrific, acts of evil and savagery that displayed the animalistic nature of those who were trying to revolt against them. Those Brits who witnessed these oaths claimed that they were self mutilating events involving human blood and flesh, and even the flesh of other animals like goats into whose flesh these naked heathens ate and drank from. According to the Kikuyuculture, this was normal religious practice they believed was similar to a conversion ceremony for someone evangelical, but seeing as the British governmental authorities would not view them in this way, it was in the best interests of other Europeans to discredit this Kikuyu claim and treat them as ferocious rebels (Brendon 555). With these rituals causing the Africans to fall under such scrutiny, it can be argued that treating them as violent criminals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Model Of Ols Model whether the independent variable had a positive or negative relationship to the dependent variable. This was helpful when studying the graduated colours map of number of votes to determine how the variables could help explain the patterns seen on the map. Once a variable was deemed suitable, an OLS model was run to test the hypothesis that the number of votes is a function of the chosen variable. This process was repeated with different groups of variables while assessing the outputs and altering the composition of variables. The checks included ensuring that the coefficients have the expected sign and are statistically significant, that there is no redundancy in the explanatory variables, high adjusted R2 value, low AIC value and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This model was chosen because it experienced the most significant increase in adjusted R2 (up from 90.5%) and a decrease in AIC (down from 773.9) from the OLS model. The coefficients that were computed by the GWR tool and mapped (Figure 2) helped to demonstrate that each explanatory variable and its associated coefficient vary spatially in its predictive strength of the dependent variable. As we know, there is spatial autocorrelation and relationships in the data. This is not necessarily negative but it is important to capture the structure of the correlation in the model residues with explanatory variables. Until then, the model cannot necessarily be trusted (ESRI, 2016). However, the high level of significance of the p value (0.0000) and the z value (6.059441) indicate that the model can be trusted. The small p value indicates that the coefficients are not zero and therefore the explanatory variables are statistically significant predictors of the behaviour of the dependent variable (ESRI, 2016). The small dataset is more troubling. Some future solutions for eliminating spatial autocorrelation include continuing to resample variables until there is no more statistically significant spatial autocorrelation (clustering). Unfortunately, that was not accomplished during the OLS regression without interfering with the ability of the GWR to run. The output of the OLS ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. The Argument Against Ban On Tobacco Related Advertising WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT: UNIT 4 ETHICS CASE STUDY The arguments in favor of the ban on tobacco related advertising in India are plentiful. First, proponents of the ban assert that the state has the right to intervene in the name of public health. Second, there are other precedents for dangerous or potentially dangerous products advertising being restricted such as firearms or pharmaceuticals. Third, tobacco related deaths are projected to increase over the next few years and we need to take action to stem the flow of new users. Fourth, youth targeted advertising campaigns are wrong and the tobacco industry s own released documents indicate that the 14 24 year old demographic is targeted as tomorrow s cigarette business , these campaigns need to stop to reduce the number of young people getting addicted to cigarettes. Fifth, policies aimed at reducing tobacco use are forecast to increase employment despite the tobacco industry itself contracting due to the fact that the money spent on tobacco products does not leave the economy if not spent on those products but actually is used on more complex products. Finally, complete bans on tobacco marketing result in reduced use of tobacco products over time according to studies in Norway, Finland, New Zealand and France, but the ban needs to cover all media outlets. Those opposed to the ban on tobacco advertising in India have their own logic for opposing the restrictions. Oppositionists first assert that a restriction on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
