Religion vs. Morality Essay
To be moral simply means to do what is right; however, doing what is right is easier said than
done. Perhaps if one was a child, one would, to the best of their abilities, follow what his parents
demand of him, this would constitute them as doing what is right. Now let us say that the child is
an orphan, or does not believe what his parents say is right, should following them still be
considered moral, or is it even up to him to decide? Perhaps the child has evolved past parenting
all together and therefore needs no more guidance. Defining what is considered moral has now
become much more complex. Sam Harris presents the same basic argument of moralityin his book
Letter to a Christian Nation, by applying it not to a child and his parents,... Show more content on

While atheists do not believe in God, it does not mean that they do not serve a god and religion.
Capitalism, at least in America, is everyone s religion. It is served each and every day as
millions make the pilgrimage to work, to gain the capacities to tithe into the economy by
following the ever present sermon of buy, buy, buy. The sermon is far greater than any religion
of God, for it is sought out daily by various means such as the television, radio, and
advertisements on clothes that society themselves perpetuate. Martin Luther once stated that one
s religion is whatever one is willing to sacrifice his children for is his religion and God . Millions
are being sacrificed by their economies today; workers are working 12 hour days for less than 2
dollars. Governments are doing all in their powers to keep unions from forming all in the name of
capitalism. Therefore if Harris argument is that only morality can be accomplished by atheism, and
there is no true form of Atheism, then there can be no true form of morality(religion of the
market 67 70). Harris also groups all Christians into one huge pool of rifle toting, homophobes,
who s main concern is to prevent murder of the unborn, all the while proclaiming that war is just.
However, this is where Harris true ignorance shines. This new groups of Christians , should not
even be considered Christians at all. A simple definition of Christian is one who follows Christ
wholly, trying their best to live

The And Construction Machinery Industry
The Farm Construction Machinery industry upholds an average of 27.98% for return on equity
(Construction Mining Machinery Industry, n.d.). Therefore, Caterpillar edges out the competition
in regards to return on equity while falling short of the benchmark average for the industry.
Asset Utilization Ratios The asset utilization ratios consist of receivables turnover, average
collection period, inventory turnover, fixed asset turnover, and total asset turnover. The Caterpillar
ratio analysis will focus on receivables turnover and inventory turnover. Receivables turnover is a
company s total sales divided by receivables, while inventory turnover consists of sales divided by

Terex maintained a 6.73 ratio while Parker Hannifin carried a 5.55 ratio. Furthermore, Caterpillar
s competitors were able to collect receivables faster than Caterpillar was capable of collecting on
receivables owed. (Quotes Info Yahoo! Finance, n.d.). The industry standard for receivables
turnover for Farm Construction Machinery was 4.54% (Construction Mining Machinery Industry,
n.d.). Furthermore, Caterpillar s competitors were capable of providing a superior ratio in the
receivables turnover area, while Caterpillar fell short of the industry norm at a mere 2.98.
Inventory Turnover Inventory turnover is also an asset utilization ratio determining how many
times a company uses inventory in stock within a year (Block, Hirt, Danielsen, 2014, p. 63).
Caterpillar maintained an inventory ratio of 4.52 in 2014, 4.41 in 2013, and 4.24 in 2012.
Therefore, they were able to use inventory on hand, approximately four times within a year.
(Quotes Info Yahoo! Finance, n.d.). The competitors of Caterpillar, Terex and Parker Hannifin, had
an improved inventory turnover ratio. Terex carried a ratio of five, while Parker Hannifin utilized
a ratio of 9.63. Terex slightly edged out Caterpillar in the inventory turnover area, while Parker

Attributes of Employees in Interviews
Table of Contents Introduction2 Specific Attributes2 General Attributes3 Attitudes5
Introduction Employers would look for different kinds of attributes in an employee. Employers
would look for general attributes, specific attributes and personal attributes for the job.
Employers would want the employee to have some kind of work experiences in the job that they
have applied for. Some employees do offer training for a job. Specific Attributes Technical
Knowledge An employer would look for technical knowledge in an employee depending on the
job. For example IT Engineer employer would want to employ someone with Computer System
knowledge. Depending on the job, the different employers look for variety of knowledge. Some
employees may have little knowledge and some may have lots of knowledge. Depending on the
job, the employer would want someone with little or lots of knowledge. That would be posted on
the job advertisement as requirement for that. Another example would be that an Air hostess
would require different language skills so they can communicate in same language as the
customers. Employers value these skills because they want their employees to know what they are

Thyroid Cancer Essay
The thyroid gland is the gland that makes and stores hormones that help regulate the heart rate,
blood pressure, body temperature, and metabolism. Thyroid hormones are essential for the function
of every cell in the body. They help regulate growth and the rate of chemical reactions in the body.
Thyroid hormones also help children grow and develop. The thyroidgland is located in the lower
part of the neck, below the Adam s apple, wrapped around the trachea. It has the shape of a
butterfly with two lobes attached to one another by a middle part called the isthmus. The thyroid
uses iodine, a mineral found in some foods and in iodized salt, to make its hormones. The two most
important thyroid hormones are thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine... Show more content on

Follicular tumors, on the other hand, grow only on one side of the gland. These tumors develop
in the hormone producing cells and account for 30% 50% of all thyroid cancers (Thackery
1057). Medullary thyroid tumors account for 5% 7% of all thyroid cancers, and are usually
uncommon. Like papillary tumors, they grow on one or both sides of the gland. Anaplastic
tumors, though extremely rare, develop on either side of the thyroid gland and spread rapidly to
other parts of the body. It account for only 2% of all thyroid cancers but is the fastest growing, and
most aggressive thyroid cancer type (Thackery 1057).
The aggressiveness of each type of thyroid cancer is different. There are four main stages in each
of the types of thyroid cancer except for anaplastic cancer (Rubin 91). In the stage I of papillary
and follicular thyroid cancer, the cancer is located only in the thyroid and may be found in one
or both of the lobes. In stage II if the patients are younger than 45 years of age, the cancer has
spread beyond the thyroid. But if the patient is older than 45 years of age, the cancer is only in
the thyroid and is larger than 1 centimeter. In stage III, the cancer is usually found in patients
older than 45 years of age and has spread outside of the thyroid or has spread to the lymph nodes
but not outside of the neck. In stage IV, the cancer is again usually found in patients over the age
of 45. It most likely has spread to other parts of the

French And American Culture In The 1920 s
World War I, or the Great War as it became to be known, was a global war that was predominantly
centered in Europe. World War I had consequently left most Europe s workforce wounded, dying or
dead. The First World War left the global economy in a poor state. The post war period was a time
to utilize resources and rebuild economies through industrialization and agriculture (Moore, 2010).
Life in French and American societies significantly changed during the 1920 as both nations were
on a path of post war reconstruction, in attempts to revitalize their economies. Furthermore along
with economic changes, urbanization, innovation and technological advances had a significant
impact on the cultural change in both nations, creating the appropriate... Show more content on

Often popular clubs would host dancing competitions to show off popular dances such as Waltz,
American Tango, Lindy Hop, and much more (Hadlock, 1965). Music made Flappers highly
symbolic to the 1920 s. Considered feminists, they became known as young women that defeated
the social stereotypes about women. Flappers were symbolic for challenging traditional and
Victorian standards of womanhood, characterized by their form fitting clothing shorter
hairstyles and slinky jewellery (Kyvig, 2004). Similarly in France, Dance novelties developed

halls like Casino de Paris were constantly filled with audiences attractions and music in a fast
pace environment. Music Halls became a very popular venue for entertainment and jazz was still

Reflection Paper On Court Hearing
This reflection paper is over my fifth week at my practicum site. This week I was in the office on
Monday and Tuesday. This week I was able to attend a court hearing and I wrote up my visitation
log from the visit that happened last week.
There are a lot of things that has to happen when the Department of Children and Family Services
(DCFS) take protective custody (PC) of a child. After DCFS has taken PC over a child or children
they have to have court within 2 days. The court date is considered the first court hearing. The
perpetrator is encouraged to come and they have been appointed and attorney. The attorney will be
there to represent their client at this first initial court hearing.
The first court hearing consists of many different things. The first thing that happen is the
investigator is called to the stand and asked questions about what happened during the investigation
that were significant enough to take PC. This is a precaution step to make sure the kids were
removed for a legitimate reason. At this point the judge can sign off on the order of PC or return the
kids home to the perpetrator. The investigator explained this process to me prior to going into the
courtroom and she said the judge never sends the kids back home. The perpetrator can be called to
the stand but most of the time they are not. The next thing that is put in place is a permanency
order for the child. The permanency order is put in place for temporary housing. The last thing that
is filed

Importance Of Technology In Education
Technology is useful to have around like when kids get lost or when parents need them to track
their kids. Technology can be useful in other ways, like technology is better for education. Also,
keeping touch with family and friends, and for emergencies.
First off, technology can be useful for education purposes when teachers give online homework,
when you have to check homework, and when a student misses a day of school and need to see
what the teacher taught in class. Technology is important because teachers give online
assignments that students have to do in at home as homework. An example of this would be in
history class if you have to do a worksheet online and submit it online so the teacher can see how
you did. Why you need technology for that is it would make it easier for the students and the
teachers to understand what they don t know and still need to learn. Secondly, why technology
is important for school when you have to check your homework at home and to fix what you get
wrong on the homework. An example is in math class when the teacher gives you a few
problems out of the book to do at home, and you need to check what did you get wrong and
where you have to improve. How this example shows how technology can help a student learn or
fixs a mistakes and help you do better on tests. The last reason why technology can help you do
better in school is to see what a student has missed in classes when they were sick or missed a day
of school. An example is when in

The Thin Red Line Movie Essay
An Examination of War Through Nature
Films such as, The English Patient, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler s List, Gettysburg and
Stalingrad, prove that the nineteen nineties were a boom time for American war movies.
Terrence Mallick s The Thin Red Line is different from these films because of its focus on
nature. All of Mallick s films concentrate on the link between nature and origin, Mallick explores
this relationship by having his characters audibly ask questions of origin such as Where did we
come from? and Why are we this way? . Mallick uses The Thin Red Line to ask similar questions
about the origin of war and to look to nature and our origins for answers. Interestingly, if one was
to simply listen to The Thin Red Line they would have no idea that the director uses the film ...

The shots that bookend The Thin Red Line represent these two themes, death and the will to
survive. As if to warn and prepare the viewer Mallick begins his film with a crocodile who
slowly bellies into a swamp. As it nearly disappears we understand (with a little help from
Zimmer s sinister score) that we re are looking at an apex predator nearly unchanged from its
ancestors of a few million years ago. This crocodile is genetically geared for killing, and is the
animal embodiment of mortality and the timelessness of death. The final shot of the film
contains a single plant growing on a rock which resides just off shore of a grey landscape. As the
wind blows the fickle plant around we are in awe of its will to overcome the odds and to survive
another day. Mallick presents life as defined by this struggle to survive and the presence of
imminent death, this is life for the things of nature, this is life the way our ancestors once
experienced it. Mallick doesn t just draw us to thinking about nature through images of it, he also
links certain basic elements (Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water) to significant

Evaluating A Good Candidate For Their Organization
Structured Interviewing Analysis There are many different interviewing processes that companies
use to determine who qualifies as a good candidate for their organization. Interviewers must be
knowledgeable in their career and prepare a unique set of predetermined questions that appertain to
what the company is looking for in future employees. In a thorough search about structured

more attention than orders. Structured interviews are also identified in research as situational ,

The Debt And Interest Of Student Loans
The amount of student loans that one accumulates throughout post secondary education can
become a heavy burden. In addition, the study conducted by Scheresberg, Lusardi, and Yakoboski
(2014) show that a surprising amount of students are not aware of the financial burden that they
have acquired until they are deep in debtand interest. They summarize that:
Overall, there is a notable mismatch among college educated Millennials between their perceived
and demonstrated levels of financial literacy, with the form exceeding the latter. They also have less
financial knowledge than might be expected given their educational attainment. On the other hand,
given that only 29 percent have received financial education through school or work, perhaps low
financial literacy is to be expected. This indicates a need for increased financial education, as
improved financial literacy would mean more informed financial decision making. (p. 18)
Most often, students sign up for loans without fully understanding the interest rates that come with
them. At the end of their post secondary education, students come to fully understand what
financial burden they have to pay off and they find themselves stuck with high interest rates.
The summation made by Scheresberg, Lusardi, and Yakoboski (2014) of Generation Y is that
many college educated Millennials have low financial literacy levels; many are not aware of their
low financial literacy; many have not received any formal financial

Comparing Victor Frankenstein And The Creature In Mary...
Though Victor Frankenstein thinks fundamentally in terms of who belongs to whom , he and the
Creature share a strange bond that goes beyond the bounds of mere possession. Frankenstein clearly
ignores his mutual obligations and promises, especially towards the Creature, creating a
relationship between the two that is composed entirely of power struggles rather than any form of
mutuality. In addition to this, as one who thinks about social organization in terms of sheer power,
Frankensteinextends this master slave relationship to nature itself in short, he treats nature the same
as he treats his unnatural Creation.
Though Frankenstein clearly does not love the Creature, he does seem inseparable from him: there

without sex. This is yet another way in which he is attempting to exert some form of control
Victor is thinking, again, in terms of possession and sees nature (like the Creature) as something
to control and defeat. He seems always to be searching for the inherent power in things the first
time he witnesses lightning he watches its progress with curiosity and delight because he has
never beheld anything so utterly destroyed [as the ruined tree] . Once he is taught of electricity,
the cause of this force, the knowledge [throws] greatly into the shade Cornelius Agrippa...the lord
of [Frankenstein s] imagination , and shortly after this Victor gives up [his] former occupations;
set[s] down natural history...as a deformed and abortive creation . In other words, he seems to
lose interest in science as soon as he is shown that the way to understand natural phenomena is
not through secrets or magic powers; that the way to understanding cannot be reached through
exertion of force or power. It seems that Frankenstein is deeply afraid of what he cannot control,
and not just nature: contemplating the Creature (a being requiring love and mutuality) he muses a
new species would bless me as its creator and source; many happy and excellent natures would
owe their being to me. No father could claim the gratitude of his child so completely as I should

Essay Overcoming Fear
There is an important event that happens in every person s life. That important event may be a
number of things. Such as someone winning the lottery or even having a tragic loss in the family.
My important event in life was the day I conquered my fear of heights. Everyone has some type of
fear or phobia that absolutely petrifies them. Whether it s a fearof snakes, swimming, or even
germs, it can be conquered as I discovered.
That day I overcame my fear of heights took place at Six Flags over Texas. The day started out
with my five friends and me going to a Student Council convention. After the convention we were
granted access to Six Flags for the whole day. Now the only problem for me was Six Flags had
roller coasters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rides entrance itself made my legs weak with sheer fear. The pathway was like a maze and
then the stairs appeared to warn me, by saying turn back now. As I climbed each step I tried
numerous times to escape. The escape attempts were foiled by my so called friends blocking the
only exit. I said, Come on guys I can die another day. Audrey quipped, Oh come on Taylor, man up
and go on the ride. Now I can t really describe the feeling of having a woman tell me to man up. I
said, Ok I got this. I shrugged off all my anxiety and nerves and just went with it.
I started feeling confident as I waited in line. Finally the moment arrived where I took my seat
on the coaster. At this point my anxiety and fear came rushing back all at once and my blood
even seemed to boil. I realized though if I didn t do this now I probably never would. So I pulled
the bar over my stomach and tried not to puke.
I closed my eyes as the ride ascended from the platform and came to a stop at the peak. I opened my
eyes to nothing but the skyline. I said, Guys if I survive this I m going to kill you all. The
moment of truth was upon me now. The Coaster was at the mercy of gravity as we descended
the massive drop. In the split second I had before we fell off the earth I knew there was nothing I
could do to stop ride. As I

Leadership and Group Members
Leadership has been described as the process of social influence in which one person is able to
enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task . A definition more
inclusive of followers comes from Alan Keith of Genentech who said Leadership is ultimately about
creating a way for people to contribute to making something extraordinary happen.
FUNCTIONAL LEADERSHIP THEORY (Hackman amp; Walton, 1986; McGrath, 1962) is a
particularly useful theory for addressing specific leader behaviors expected to contribute to
organizational or unit effectiveness. This theory argues that the leader s main job is to see that
whatever is necessary to group needs is taken care of; thus, a leader can be said to have done their

Consideration includes behavior involved in fostering effective relationships. Examples of such
behavior would include showing concern for a subordinate or acting in a supportive manner
towards others. Initiating structure involves the actions of the leader focused specifically on task

subordinates accountable to those standards.
Organizations are relying increasingly on teams to improve quality, efficiency, and adaptive change.
Cross functional teams are used to improve coordination among the different parties involved in
carrying out a joint project. Self managed teams are delegated most of the responsibility and
authority traditionally vested in fir line supervisors. Self defining teams represent an extreme form
empowerment, because the team can determine its mission given the ability of the leader.

What s the difference between a hero and a regular person? Joseph Campbell describes the
difference as the way you respond to the trials in front of you, the way you answer the heroes

with in a way that uplifts those around you. Often times you are challenged to respond to things
for the first time, what Campbell describes as an original experience. This can be problematic
because as humans we tend to like things that are habitual and comfortable, both of which make it
difficult to be pushed outside of our comfort zone. There is something heroic about embracing the

Causes Of Air Pollution In China
Air Pollution In China
Hazard Overview Air pollution in China is a growing environmental hazard that needs
immediate attention in order to save the lives of millions of citizens. Air pollution in China is
known to cause over one million premature deaths per year (Zhao et. al., 2017). The Chinese
have become accustomed to days when a large fog like cloud covers many of the large cities to a
point that the sun is no longer visible. The fog like substance is actually polluted air, and it has the
ability to turn day into night. The polluted air is not only aesthetically unappealing, it comes with
many health hazards that are detrimental. Breathing in toxic air has been repeatedly linked to
higher incidence rates of both lung cancer and heart disease (Wu, et. al.,2016). Anyone who
breathes in the polluted air is at an increased risk for developing such noncommunicable diseases,
but children and the elderly are at a heightened risk due to their often compensated respiratory and
immune systems. During an average month, China only meets the World Health Organizations
target air quality index for developed countries for six days out of the whole month (Zhao et. al.,
2017). The majority of air pollution issues take place in large cities, the majority of which are
concentrated on the east coast of the country. Wind conditions can also cause the polluted air to
shift to neighboring cities. China is facing such air quality issues due to an exponential growth in
their economy in a very

taxation power of their local governments. In contrast, local governments in France and Hungary,
two unitary countries, have greater autonomy in choosing tax standards. Local governments in
Germany and Sweden, two federal states, and local governments have limited decision making

Essay on Roe v. Wade 1973
Even to this day, women have not reached maximum equality, but the landmark Supreme Court case
Roe v. Wade has helped the women s equality movement drastically take a step in the right
direction. Prior to the case, women had their rights very limited and restricted. Everyone was and
still is entitled to their basic rights, however pregnant women were not. Their first, fourth, fifth,
ninth, and fourteenth amendment rights were violated and were not addressed until Jane Roe
testified in court. The decision made by the court still has a lasting impact even to this day. The

Henry Wade represented the Texas state law to prohibit abortion. Eventually, the case came to a
close and was decided on January 22, 1973. Ever since the case of Roe v. Wade, there have been
approximately 1.5 million legal abortions each year (Edwards III, Wattenberg, and Lineberry
131). During the years leading up to and after 1973, there were numerous events and situations
that occurred. Before 1965, the idea of right to privacy was barely used, but Griswold v.
Connecticut (1965) changed that. The case involved a Connecticut law forbidding the use of
contraceptives (Edwards III, Wattenberg, and Lineberry 131). A doctor and a family planner were
arrested for distributing the use of contraceptives for couples in need. They were eventually
brought to court by the state and were convicted. The case was taken to the Supreme Court and
was later decided that everyone is entitled to their right to privacy. This set the precedent for Roe v.
Wade because without Griswold v. Connecticut, the decision might be completely different than
what it is now. A court case called Rust v. Sullivan was related to abortion. It specified that family
planning services receiving federal funds could not provide women any counseling regard abortion
(Edwards III, Wattenberg, and Lineberry 131). This decision created public scrutiny as the decision
would violate the First Amendment. President Clinton eventually lifted the ban on abortion
counseling as it

Worldview Reflection Paper
I thought there were a lot of good points made in the first video. The main point however, that I
want to hit on, is the point that morality is relative. I thought the panel in the video did a great
job pointing out the logical fallacy of moral relativism. Depending on the consciousness of the
person you are going to get a host of different moral standards that does not conform to each
other. If this kind of thinking was able to flourish in society, then it would lead to absolute chaos
in how our judicial structure works. At the end of the day there has to be some kind of absolute
moral guidance for there to be any order in a society that actually functions correctly. I really
enjoyed the second video as well and how concisely it was able to explain what a Christian
worldview really was. Out of that video I was able to get a better grasp and comprehension on the
importance of having a Christian worldview. Everyone on planet earth has a worldview of some
kind. This worldview determines how a person thinks, acts, and lives. The central focus of the
Christian worldview is Godhimself. Everything begins, ends, and is centered on God and his
character. This creates a worldview that is not focused on the mankind and filtered that way, but
rather it is focused on God and who he is. I believe this worldview is imperative to have among
believers and it is important that we check our minds and our hearts to make sure that our
worldview aligns itself with the truthof God s word. I

These can be accessed through your quest log on the upper left corner of the screen, and if you

area on the map? Click on the desired spot. Furthermore, the user interface is intuitive: everything
you need is there, and navigating around the shops, your friends farmsteads, and on the other
elements is pretty simple.
In terms of graphics, presentation and art style, Diamond Peak is further ahead in most aspects. It
follows an art style which resembles old American art, while the graphics are pretty decent in today

Cnidarians are a phylum of aquatic organisms that include jellyfish, corals, hydroids, and
anemones. They are an ancient group of animals that are thought to have emerged more that 500
million years ago. They are characterized by their radial symmetry, their diploblastic bodies, and
specialized cells called cnidocytes. Cnidarians are represented as either polyps or medusae. Sea
anemones and corals are consistently found as polyps, and jellyfishhave a polyp stage early in their
development. These polyps are mostly sessile, but some have the ability to relocate themselves if
necessary. When jellyfish mature they are medusae with a fully formed bell. When in the medusae

Spirocysts do not have any piercing elements, and are used to attach to prey and non prey.
(Г–stman, 2000) They secrete an adhering hydroscopic substance that allows the tube to adhere to
substrates without piercing them. (Г–stman, 2000) Spirocysts are very tightly wound within a thin
walled spirocyst, in comparison to the thick walled nematocyst. Spirocysts are only found in
Anthozoans, and are usually used in conjunction with nematocysts to hold prey and envenomate it.
(Г–stman, 2000) The success of this depends on how well the tentacles can adhere to its prey. The
intrinsic adherence of the cnidarian firing the cnidae is measure by the amount of force it takes to
remove a target from the tentacle. (Thorington and Hessinger, 1998) the total adhesive force, as
calculated by Thorington and Hassinger is equal to the adhesive force of the spirocyst mucus (St)
and the product of the number of cnidae ( mastigophore nematocysts (nm), and spirocysts (ns)
discharging onto the target and their intrinsic adherence, ( mastigophore nematocysts (im), and
spirocysts (is). When combined Adhesive force = St + (nm)(im) + (ns) (is) They found that the
product of the number of cnidae and the intrinsic adherence for spirocysts had no effect on overall
adherence, so they shortened the equation to Adhesive force = St + (nm)(im)

Gas Chromatography And Mass Spectrometry
Introduction
With the proliferation of drugs in today s society, certain drugs are banned by sporting
authorities because of the unfair advantage they give on athletic competitors. As a result, rigid
controls are put in place to try and limit their use, since 2010 drug testing is more prevalent than
ever before. The majority of drugs that can be used by athletes can be detected in samples of
urine; for some substances blood samples may be required. An athlete is told by a drug control
officer to submit a sample which is then sent to a laboratory for analysis and the results are reported
back to the governing athletic agency. Drug testing is becoming an increasingly integral part of
sports competitions. As new performance enhancing drugs are developed, new tests are developed
to detect these drugs, and the struggle to keep sports clean continues indefinitely. Gas
chromatography and mass spectrometry are the most common methods of chemical analysis. In this
report the benefits of gas chromatography will be explored in relation to those of mass spectrometry.
It can be concluded that gas chromatography is perceived as a better drug detection method than
mass spectrometry, however; they are commonly put together as the two techniques complement
each other to provide a more through form of drug testing.

The Creation Of The Wall Of China
The creation of the wall of China was the most spectacular construction project of all time. It is
the most spectacular because of the amount of people who worked on it, the length of the wall,
and the time period it was built in. The wall of china was built to keep the Chinese in, and the rest
of the world out. It was built under the rule of emperor Shi Huangdi. The creation of the Great Wall
of Chinawas actually the linking of walls that were already built by other kingdoms. It was built
after the unification of china in the beginning of the Qin Dynasty (221 206 BC). It was a massive
construction project in which a lot of time was invested, and in which many suffered. It was the
most ambitious engineering project ever conceived. This extraordinary project could have never
been built without the unification of China. Before china was unified, everything was chaotic and
disastrous. Previous to the unification of china, I don t think people could have come together to
build a wall as such. China was made up of a number of states each fighting for supremacy. There
were a number of wars going on between the different states and neither was successful. It wasn t
until the Qin kingdom rose and destroyed the other kingdoms. They destroyed most of the
kingdoms but one was still left, they were called the Chu. They fought with them for about fifteen
year and then they finally surrendered. They were ruthless and ambitious therefore the only one
who could have unified China. Two

A Lack Of Dignity By Ernest J. Gaines
A lack of dignity was shown throughout A Lesson Before Dying in the characters of Grant,
Jefferson, Miss Emma, Tante Lou, and Vivian. All of these characters in the novel struggled with
their lack of human morals which reflected on their impertinent actions towards themselves and
among others. The story takes place in the1940 s small Cajun town of Bayonne, Louisiana. In this
time period there was an abundance of racial segregation between african americanpeople and a
strong bias towards white people. This shouldn t be an excuse or reason of why there was very little
dignity throughout the novel. Furthermore, Ernest J. Gainesgives us plenty of examples of how
these characters showed this lack of dignity among themselves and others. Grant Wiggins, a
school teacher, is the most educated man in the community. He s been to the university and
came back home to teach at the same school that he went to growing up as a child. This is an
achievement of itself , and most of the people in his community show him lots of respect for
taking on this ruthless job. Unfortunately, his lack of dignity is shown by him seeing his work at
the school as being useless or unworthy. His perspective towards his own community is that
nothing ever changes and that all of these years of slavery had brought his people s advancement
to a sudden stop. Because of this feeling Grant shows several times in the novel that he wants to
leave town and start a new life somewhere else. He says in the novel,

Ethics Of Patriotism Essay
Comparative Ethics of Patriotism
I.Introduction What is the moral worth of patriotism? Is there a substantive difference between the
patriotism of totalitarian and liberal countries? Do the soldiers in those countries experience
patriotism differently? In this paper, I will attempt to affirm the moral worth of patriotism, find the
exact differences between totalitarian and liberal patriotism, and determine how this difference
might manifest itself within the citizens of either country. Our paper structure will begin with using
a common definition of patriotism, and will make an initial attempt to argue for a difference
between liberal and totalitarian instances of patriotism. When this attempt fails, we will more
clearly and carefully define patriotism, and explore the challenges in assessing its moral worth.
Then, after a re conception of patriotism, we will return to the question of patriotic differences
between totalitarian and liberal governments. As a final note to the reader, no specific moral theory
will be employed. Instead, the priority in this analysis will be focused more closely on uncovering
relations between citizen and state that have implications in any moral system not just noting
instances where patriotism seems to violate the specific rules of one moral system.
II.An Initial Definition of Patriotism It helps, when discussing definitions, to pull from a trusted

`` Those Winter Sundays `` By Robert Hayden
It may seem unlikely that someone who viewed himself as an outsider would leave a legacy as a
postmodern poet, yet Robert Hayden did just that in his poem, Those Winter Sundays. The poet
utilizes his own alienation as a tool to reveal an insider s view on the issues of his time.
Robert Hayden was born in a poor suburb outside Detroit on August 4, 1913. His name at birth
was Asa Bundy Sheffey. He was raised, however, as Robert Hayden, the name given by his foster
parents. Hayden s foster parents happened to live across the street from where Hayden was born.
Hayden did not discover the story until later in life. Realizing this story helped shape his life as a
poet. He established a lasting legacy of both postmodernism and African American achievement. At
the same time, his poetry helped Robert Hayden discover who he was as a person.
Hayden was extremely nearsighted as a child. He abandoned the notion of sports in favor of
reading, eventually developing a deep seated love of reading that turned into a career as a poet
and a legacy of many notable works. Hayden is sometimes compared to Robert Frost in terms of
breakout hits. His first volumes did extremely well in the United Kingdom upon their release.

Should Blacks have to give up their civil rights, political power and the choice of higher
education for the younger generations just to survive in a White dominated society? Should
Black America have to pay such a high cost to be accepted only to be viewed as the inferior
race? Blacks had to take the backseat in society for many years. Some were probably pressured
and some just plain settled. The feeling of not having a choice and taking the better option was of
no benefit to the blacks. What was considered to be the best decision only proved to be the worse
decision that black America could ever make. The writing Of Booker T. Washington

Why let all those efforts go in vain? But this is exactly what Mr. Washington wanted to the
Blacks to do. This was the strategy he felt would help Blacks get to where they strived to be. Mr.
Du Bois he too was an advocate for economical success for black but not at the price of giving up
your rights as a citizen. He felt blacks could be successful as well as educated. He felt blacks should
not have to take the low road of inferiority to achieve financial solidity.
Due to the amount of opposition Blacks faced giving up a few rights to take the spotlight off of
them seemed like a fair trade that the majority of the people accepted. Du Bois stated, As a result
of this tender of the palm branch, what has been the return? In these years there have occurred: 1.
The disfranchisement of the Negro. 2. The legal creation of distinct status of civil inferiority for the
Negro. 3. The steady withdrawal of aid from institutions for the higher training of the Negro. (Du
Bois).
This created a well defined line of segregation. And this time it seems as though Blacks
unknowingly did it to themselves under the direction of Booker T. Washington. The division was
not entirely because of Mr. Washington but his suggestions did help aid in the separation. There
were already civil issues between Blacks and Whites and this was a definite setback. The aftermath
resulted in a broken Black America. Black America needed to know there was hope. Mr. Du Bois

Georgia O Keefe (word count includes annotated bibliography)
Georgia O Keefe is a famous American painter who painted beautiful flowers and landscapes.
But she painted these images in such a way that many people believed she was portraying sexual
imagery. O Keefe s depictions of flowers in strict frontality and enlarged to giant scale were
entirely original in character . . . the view into the open blossoms evoked an image of the female
psyche and invited erotic associations. (Joachimides 47) O Keefe denies these allegations and says
that she magnified the scale of the flower only to ensure people would notice them. (Haskell 203)

in the back of her mind. (19) She grew up to be a very strong, independent person and she did not
care if she was judged, as long as she liked who she was. As a result of her father leaving when
she was young, she felt that males were not good enough for her and she developed a strong
sense of feminism. In fact, for awhile, Georgia explored her sexuality and dated predominantly
women for a significant part of her life. This factor did effect her painting, but not in a sexual
way. She painted images that were close ups , allowing you to see deep into them and to be
close to them. She yearned to be close to someone but was afraid to be hurt again. Georgia s non
traditional lifestyle did affect her life, but did not force her to create sexual female images. It may
be more accurate to read her drawings as intimations of a less literal and more profound view of
reality. (Peters 29)
Georgia grew up in a time where people still had little respect for women. A woman s role was to

The English language is universal. It has very set rules, forms and functions. The Chicano
language at best represents a personal story, a private communication that is not understandable
or even acceptable by non chicanos. By contrast, Richard Rodriquez, in his article entitled Aria ,
strongly believes in surrendering to learning the proper English language, despite how strongly
he feels his native tongue is a private language that once functioned to unite his family.
Rodriguez creates a division of a public and a private discourse. He feels that he has a В‘right to

When speaking about early pop music songs, she explains although they were mass produced
they were individually interpreted. The songs were ours but the were also everyone else s...we

criticized for having mass produced songs that someone else wrote for her. However, these
songs have mass appeal which Douglas considers a strength. Pre teen girls, in the midst of
forging an identity among their peers can certainly find solidarity by singing out the words to Hit

At the same time, depending on each girl s individual knowledge and experience, the songs will

3 feet behind you for the bus, wait to get inside, push me in the snow, and overall just harass me.
These are just a few of the hundreds of ridiculous, cruel things I had to deal with. However, I
believe this made us closer. Now we get along great and I don t know where I would be without
you. You ve made me a stronger person and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, we went inside and you went into Mom and Dad s room. I was sitting on the bed waiting for
you when all of a sudden our front door opened and a random man walked in. Our dogs went
berserk and I ran to you out of fear. We went into the bathroom and locked the door. The
mysterious man shook on the door handle and was trying to get in. We called our parents but they
didn t answer. Eventually our Grandma got ahold of our Dad and he came rushing home. The

The Theories Of Human Development
Theories of Human development are relevant and matter in the real world . In my clinical practice
as a psychologist in training, I have found human development theories to be very useful in
conceptualizing and understanding my client s distress. I used theoretical frameworks that are
based on theories of human developmentto guide my interventions in therapy. For example, as a
brief psychodynamic clinician, I look to Freud s theory of anxiety to understand how distress was
developed for my clients and then based on this information I created interventions that assist me in
dismantling my client s defenses in order to reduce their anxiety. It had also guided my behaviors
and actions in therapy so that I do not harm my clients.
Also, drawing from attachment theory, my role as a clinician is to assess the attachment patterns
of my client as well as see how these patterns continued to play out in therapy with me. In role is
to provide my clients with a new experience and a different way of relating and connecting to
others. Given my work, I believe that theories of human development matter and have a real
application in the world. For this essay, I will discuss why theories of human development are
relevant and how they matter in the real world.
Theories of human development are relevant at the individual level because it helped us make
sense and make meaning of our lives. As discussed in Bronfenbrenner s model, the child or the
individual is at the center of everything

types of injuries caused from the training between men and women athletes. Diane answers with

We have to approach the female and really create a higher expectation for training intensity, Diane
explains. Research study show that when you put a female and male athlete together and make
everything relatively the same with body, mass size the size of the athlete, and you ask the female
athlete what they perceived their level of intensity is. The females consistently felt like they were
training at a much higher intensity than the males did. Peter asks Diane what are some examples
for coaches and trainers to change to make a positive impact on their female athletes right away.
Diane explained that in order to make a dramatic change right away, one of the best way is to
incorporate a dynamic warm up that includes flexibility, basic strength training and teaching
plyometric. Diane includes the work teaching because it is important that the athletes understand
how to land and decelerate in order to reduce any injuries and to have progression. Including basic
coordinative bimotor skills that include speed agility and quickness drills. is also important into
incorporating into the female athletes training to dramatically make a change and even reducing the
ACL and knee injuries by 73%. In summary, Diane explains that coaches and trainers need to look
at the female athlete differently versus being afraid of getting bulky and to have higher
expectations. Incorporating dynamic warm ups can significantly decrease the

Analysis Of Thee I Sing
Of Thee I Sing Analysis As actors, we are forced to absorb everything around us and express our
views on the world. Of Thee I Sing succeeds as a play that reflects the world around them while
poking fun at it. The play itself was fun, colorful, and interesting. From its high energized actors to
its well choreographed dancing and singing. Of Thee I Sing is a musical that is full of terrific
acting, dancing, staging, and stage directing. Anyone who did not see this production made a
mistake not to see it.
Of Thee I Sing is about John P. Wintergreen, who runs for President of the United States on the love
platform. When he falls in love with the sensible Mary Turner instead of Diana Devereaux, the
beautiful pageant winner selected for him, he gets into political hot water. The main characters of
the play are John P. Wintergreen ( Joseph Edward Herr) a presidential candidate who, is running
his campaign on love. Mary Turner ( Jennifer Totcky) Wintergreens love interest later wife.
Diana Devereaux (Katie Whittermore) contest winner Wintergreens administration chose to be
his wife before he fell in love with Turner. The play ends with the servants wheeling a large bed
into the room, where Mary sits with the babies. Wintergreen leads everyone in proclaiming, Of
Thee I Sing. The acting in Of Thee I Sing was nothing but spectacular. The acting from all of the
actors was believable. The way how they projected their voices was well done and the how they
delivered their lines was well executed. An actor who did these and more was Kyle Laing and Lexi
Nieto. Kyle practically stole every scene he was in. He fully embodied his character. From his
fast dialogue to his witty dialect. His pacing was great, he did not rush through his lines nor did
he slow down. It was well paced. My favorite part of his performance were his facial expressions,
he was very charismatic with the time he had on stage to express himself. Lexi Nieto s
performance was nothing spectacular. Despite being a member of the ensemble, Nieto captivated
my attention every time she was on stage. She made bold acting choices through her hilarious
facial expressions, but still managed to not distract from the story. There was clarity for all

All Quiet On The Western Front Earth Quotes
In the novel All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Remarque, the central symbol is the earth.
Earth represents life, death and perverse nature. It ties to other symbols such as dirt, ground,
trenches, and plants. Earth represents life because it provided protection and shelter to keep the
soldiers alive.. Basically, when the soldiers cling on to earth, they are basically clinging on to life
because earth provides them with the necessary essentials to be sustain life such as food which
gives them life. Earth is the only thing that the soldiers can rely on to keep them alive in the war.

According to page 55 of chapter 4, it states In the spasm of terror, under the hailing of
annihilation in the bellowing of death of the explosions, O Earth, thou grantest us the great
resisting surge of new won life. Our being, almost utterly carried away by the fury of the storm,
streams back through our hands from thee, and we, thy redeemed ones, bury ourselves in thee...
(Analyze quote) The quote is what shows that earth represents life because us what saves the
soldiers from possible death. It is so as earth takes on the role of being the soldiers source of life
as it is the most crucial thing there is to them in battle to stay alive. The soldiers uses earth to do
sustain life, they dig up trenches, find shelter and food which all gives homes keep them alive
and on the go. (how does it all keep them alive?) In this quote specially, a bombardment had
occurred and the soldiers used the earth to shelter and bury themselves into it. The relationship
between the soldiers is just like the relationship between a mother and her child, who protects and
nurtures the child. When the child is scare and in a state of terror, the child would rely on the
mother to stabilize with this, the mother offers new life to the child just like how the earth offer
new life to the soldiers fighting at the front by being place of comfort. This shows how earth

Portrayal Of Women In Herland
The story of Herland depicts mostly about feminism, feminism is the advocating rights of
women to gain equality to men. Herland is about a society that is made up of entire women and
the need for male counterpart is not necessary. The story is narrated through the eyes of a male
narrator Von, Jeff and Terry. Three different points of view were given about how women should
be treated. During reading the novel it was seen that Herland uses the stereotypes of females and
used it to their advantages where they depict all females willing and able to complete the task that
modern society would see fit for a male. The women in the novel clothing were not provocative
however, it was built to convenient to their daily life and also for comfort. They did not show any
flirtatious tendency, and the need of male in any shape or form was never necessary for them. They
were mostly mothers, builders and, farmers. The women lived together peacefully without caring
about genderbiases in the world.
The story was based on three males who was filled with boyish intention about a civilization of
women waiting for a male to come and rescue them. But in contrast to this, the women of Herland
did not need saving. This Utopia was created to show the negative flaws that society has about a
female, for example, society will always think that a female is always a damsel in distress and
always need saving. The three males Von, Terry and Jeff are such exaggerations of masculinity, they
feel that it

Gerald Sandusky Case
After reviewing serval sources related to this case, it is clear that this was an ongoing issue for
many years and the scope may extend into the 1970 s if new allegations are corroborated.
The case officially begins on November 4, 2011 when the Attorney General of the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania filed charges against Gerald Sandusky (Sandusky) that included multiple counts of
aggravated indecent assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, corruption of minors, unlawful
contact with minors, and endangering the welfare of minors. Several of the charges cover offenses
that occurred between 1998 and 2002 when Sandusky was either the Defensive Coordinator for the
Penn State University (PSU) football team or as a professor Emeritus with unrestricted access to
the football program s facilities (Freeh, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

justice, child endangerment, failure to report child abuse and conspiracy in connection with the
scandal (Sokolove, 2014). Then Coach Joe Paterno was not charged in relation to the Sandusky
scandal, however, he died of cancer shortly after Sandusky s arrest and his firing from PSU.
Aside from the allegations of child sexual abuse, the revelation of a cover up and who actually
knew of Sandusky s behavior appears to be just as shocking. Through independent and Grand
Jury investigations, a small circle of the most powerful people at PSU knew, for almost a decade,
of Sandusky s behavior and chose not to take appropriate actions to protect children from a sexual
predator and concealed Sandusky s behavior from the University s Board of Trustees, the
community and

  • 2. Religion vs. Morality Essay To be moral simply means to do what is right; however, doing what is right is easier said than done. Perhaps if one was a child, one would, to the best of their abilities, follow what his parents demand of him, this would constitute them as doing what is right. Now let us say that the child is an orphan, or does not believe what his parents say is right, should following them still be considered moral, or is it even up to him to decide? Perhaps the child has evolved past parenting all together and therefore needs no more guidance. Defining what is considered moral has now become much more complex. Sam Harris presents the same basic argument of moralityin his book Letter to a Christian Nation, by applying it not to a child and his parents,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While atheists do not believe in God, it does not mean that they do not serve a god and religion. Capitalism, at least in America, is everyone s religion. It is served each and every day as millions make the pilgrimage to work, to gain the capacities to tithe into the economy by following the ever present sermon of buy, buy, buy. The sermon is far greater than any religion of God, for it is sought out daily by various means such as the television, radio, and advertisements on clothes that society themselves perpetuate. Martin Luther once stated that one s religion is whatever one is willing to sacrifice his children for is his religion and God . Millions are being sacrificed by their economies today; workers are working 12 hour days for less than 2 dollars. Governments are doing all in their powers to keep unions from forming all in the name of capitalism. Therefore if Harris argument is that only morality can be accomplished by atheism, and there is no true form of Atheism, then there can be no true form of morality(religion of the market 67 70). Harris also groups all Christians into one huge pool of rifle toting, homophobes, who s main concern is to prevent murder of the unborn, all the while proclaiming that war is just. However, this is where Harris true ignorance shines. This new groups of Christians , should not even be considered Christians at all. A simple definition of Christian is one who follows Christ wholly, trying their best to live ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Thyroid Cancer Essay The thyroid gland is the gland that makes and stores hormones that help regulate the heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and metabolism. Thyroid hormones are essential for the function of every cell in the body. They help regulate growth and the rate of chemical reactions in the body. Thyroid hormones also help children grow and develop. The thyroidgland is located in the lower part of the neck, below the Adam s apple, wrapped around the trachea. It has the shape of a butterfly with two lobes attached to one another by a middle part called the isthmus. The thyroid uses iodine, a mineral found in some foods and in iodized salt, to make its hormones. The two most important thyroid hormones are thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine... Anaplastic tumors, though extremely rare, develop on either side of the thyroid gland and spread rapidly to other parts of the body. It account for only 2% of all thyroid cancers but is the fastest growing, and most aggressive thyroid cancer type (Thackery 1057). The aggressiveness of each type of thyroid cancer is different. There are four main stages in each of the types of thyroid cancer except for anaplastic cancer (Rubin 91). In the stage I of papillary and follicular thyroid cancer, the cancer is located only in the thyroid and may be found in one or both of the lobes. In stage II if the patients are younger than 45 years of age, the cancer has spread beyond the thyroid. But if the patient is older than 45 years of age, the cancer is only in the thyroid and is larger than 1 centimeter. In stage III, the cancer is usually found in patients older than 45 years of age and has spread outside of the thyroid or has spread to the lymph nodes but not outside of the neck. This week I was able to attend a court hearing and I wrote up my visitation log from the visit that happened last week. There are a lot of things that has to happen when the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) take protective custody (PC) of a child. After DCFS has taken PC over a child or children they have to have court within 2 days. The court date is considered the first court hearing. The perpetrator is encouraged to come and they have been appointed and attorney. The attorney will be there to represent their client at this first initial court hearing. The first court hearing consists of many different things. The first thing that happen is the investigator is called to the stand and asked questions about what happened during the investigation that were significant enough to take PC. This is a precaution step to make sure the kids were removed for a legitimate reason. At this point the judge can sign off on the order of PC or return the kids home to the perpetrator. The investigator explained this process to me prior to going into the courtroom and she said the judge never sends the kids back home. • 8. Importance Of Technology In Education Technology is useful to have around like when kids get lost or when parents need them to track their kids. Technology can be useful in other ways, like technology is better for education. Also, keeping touch with family and friends, and for emergencies. First off, technology can be useful for education purposes when teachers give online homework, when you have to check homework, and when a student misses a day of school and need to see what the teacher taught in class. Technology is important because teachers give online assignments that students have to do in at home as homework. An example of this would be in history class if you have to do a worksheet online and submit it online so the teacher can see how you did. Why you need technology for that is it would make it easier for the students and the teachers to understand what they don t know and still need to learn. Secondly, why technology is important for school when you have to check your homework at home and to fix what you get wrong on the homework. An example is in math class when the teacher gives you a few problems out of the book to do at home, and you need to check what did you get wrong and where you have to improve. How this example shows how technology can help a student learn or fixs a mistakes and help you do better on tests. The Thin Red Line Movie Essay An Examination of War Through Nature Films such as, The English Patient, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler s List, Gettysburg and Stalingrad, prove that the nineteen nineties were a boom time for American war movies. Terrence Mallick s The Thin Red Line is different from these films because of its focus on nature. All of Mallick s films concentrate on the link between nature and origin, Mallick explores this relationship by having his characters audibly ask questions of origin such as Where did we come from? and Why are we this way? . Mallick uses The Thin Red Line to ask similar questions about the origin of war and to look to nature and our origins for answers. The shots that bookend The Thin Red Line represent these two themes, death and the will to survive. As if to warn and prepare the viewer Mallick begins his film with a crocodile who slowly bellies into a swamp. As it nearly disappears we understand (with a little help from Zimmer s sinister score) that we re are looking at an apex predator nearly unchanged from its ancestors of a few million years ago. This crocodile is genetically geared for killing, and is the animal embodiment of mortality and the timelessness of death. The final shot of the film contains a single plant growing on a rock which resides just off shore of a grey landscape. As the wind blows the fickle plant around we are in awe of its will to overcome the odds and to survive another day. Mallick presents life as defined by this struggle to survive and the presence of imminent death, this is life for the things of nature, this is life the way our ancestors once experienced it. • 11. The Debt And Interest Of Student Loans The amount of student loans that one accumulates throughout post secondary education can become a heavy burden. In addition, the study conducted by Scheresberg, Lusardi, and Yakoboski (2014) show that a surprising amount of students are not aware of the financial burden that they have acquired until they are deep in debtand interest. They summarize that: Overall, there is a notable mismatch among college educated Millennials between their perceived and demonstrated levels of financial literacy, with the form exceeding the latter. They also have less financial knowledge than might be expected given their educational attainment. On the other hand, given that only 29 percent have received financial education through school or work, perhaps low financial literacy is to be expected. This indicates a need for increased financial education, as improved financial literacy would mean more informed financial decision making. (p. 18) Most often, students sign up for loans without fully understanding the interest rates that come with them. At the end of their post secondary education, students come to fully understand what financial burden they have to pay off and they find themselves stuck with high interest rates. Though Victor Frankenstein thinks fundamentally in terms of who belongs to whom , he and the Creature share a strange bond that goes beyond the bounds of mere possession. In addition to this, as one who thinks about social organization in terms of sheer power, Frankensteinextends this master slave relationship to nature itself in short, he treats nature the same as he treats his unnatural Creation. Often times you are challenged to respond to things for the first time, what Campbell describes as an original experience. • 16. Causes Of Air Pollution In China Air Pollution In China Hazard Overview Air pollution in China is a growing environmental hazard that needs immediate attention in order to save the lives of millions of citizens. Air pollution in China is known to cause over one million premature deaths per year (Zhao et. al., 2017). The Chinese have become accustomed to days when a large fog like cloud covers many of the large cities to a point that the sun is no longer visible. The fog like substance is actually polluted air, and it has the ability to turn day into night. The polluted air is not only aesthetically unappealing, it comes with many health hazards that are detrimental. Breathing in toxic air has been repeatedly linked to higher incidence rates of both lung cancer and heart disease (Wu, et. al.,2016). Anyone who breathes in the polluted air is at an increased risk for developing such noncommunicable diseases, but children and the elderly are at a heightened risk due to their often compensated respiratory and immune systems. During an average month, China only meets the World Health Organizations target air quality index for developed countries for six days out of the whole month (Zhao et. al., 2017). The majority of air pollution issues take place in large cities, the majority of which are concentrated on the east coast of the country. Wind conditions can also cause the polluted air to shift to neighboring cities. China is facing such air quality issues due to an exponential growth in their economy in a very ... Wade has helped the women s equality movement drastically take a step in the right direction. Prior to the case, women had their rights very limited and restricted. Everyone was and still is entitled to their basic rights, however pregnant women were not. Their first, fourth, fifth, ninth, and fourteenth amendment rights were violated and were not addressed until Jane Roe testified in court. The decision made by the court still has a lasting impact even to this day. The landmark Supreme Court case Roe v. Henry Wade represented the Texas state law to prohibit abortion. Eventually, the case came to a close and was decided on January 22, 1973. Ever since the case of Roe v. Wade, there have been approximately 1.5 million legal abortions each year (Edwards III, Wattenberg, and Lineberry 131). During the years leading up to and after 1973, there were numerous events and situations that occurred. Before 1965, the idea of right to privacy was barely used, but Griswold v. Connecticut (1965) changed that. The case involved a Connecticut law forbidding the use of contraceptives (Edwards III, Wattenberg, and Lineberry 131). A doctor and a family planner were arrested for distributing the use of contraceptives for couples in need. They were eventually brought to court by the state and were convicted. The case was taken to the Supreme Court and was later decided that everyone is entitled to their right to privacy. This set the precedent for Roe v. Wade because without Griswold v. Connecticut, the decision might be completely different than what it is now. A court case called Rust v. Sullivan was related to abortion. It specified that family planning services receiving federal funds could not provide women any counseling regard abortion (Edwards III, Wattenberg, and Lineberry 131). This decision created public scrutiny as the decision would violate the First Amendment. President Clinton eventually lifted the ban on abortion counseling as it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Worldview Reflection Paper I thought there were a lot of good points made in the first video. The main point however, that I want to hit on, is the point that morality is relative. I thought the panel in the video did a great job pointing out the logical fallacy of moral relativism. Depending on the consciousness of the person you are going to get a host of different moral standards that does not conform to each other. If this kind of thinking was able to flourish in society, then it would lead to absolute chaos in how our judicial structure works. At the end of the day there has to be some kind of absolute moral guidance for there to be any order in a society that actually functions correctly. I really enjoyed the second video as well and how concisely it was able to explain what a Christian worldview really was. Out of that video I was able to get a better grasp and comprehension on the importance of having a Christian worldview. Everyone on planet earth has a worldview of some kind. This worldview determines how a person thinks, acts, and lives. The central focus of the Christian worldview is Godhimself. Everything begins, ends, and is centered on God and his character. This creates a worldview that is not focused on the mankind and filtered that way, but rather it is focused on God and who he is. I believe this worldview is imperative to have among believers and it is important that we check our minds and our hearts to make sure that our worldview aligns itself with the truthof God s word. • 22. Gas Chromatography And Mass Spectrometry Introduction With the proliferation of drugs in today s society, certain drugs are banned by sporting authorities because of the unfair advantage they give on athletic competitors. As a result, rigid controls are put in place to try and limit their use, since 2010 drug testing is more prevalent than ever before. The majority of drugs that can be used by athletes can be detected in samples of urine; for some substances blood samples may be required. An athlete is told by a drug control officer to submit a sample which is then sent to a laboratory for analysis and the results are reported back to the governing athletic agency. Drug testing is becoming an increasingly integral part of sports competitions. As new performance enhancing drugs are developed, new tests are developed to detect these drugs, and the struggle to keep sports clean continues indefinitely. Gas chromatography and mass spectrometry are the most common methods of chemical analysis. In this report the benefits of gas chromatography will be explored in relation to those of mass spectrometry. It can be concluded that gas chromatography is perceived as a better drug detection method than mass spectrometry, however; they are commonly put together as the two techniques complement each other to provide a more through form of drug testing. All of these characters in the novel struggled with their lack of human morals which reflected on their impertinent actions towards themselves and among others. The story takes place in the1940 s small Cajun town of Bayonne, Louisiana. In this time period there was an abundance of racial segregation between african americanpeople and a strong bias towards white people. This shouldn t be an excuse or reason of why there was very little dignity throughout the novel. Furthermore, Ernest J. Is there a substantive difference between the patriotism of totalitarian and liberal countries? Do the soldiers in those countries experience patriotism differently? In this paper, I will attempt to affirm the moral worth of patriotism, find the exact differences between totalitarian and liberal patriotism, and determine how this difference might manifest itself within the citizens of either country. Our paper structure will begin with using a common definition of patriotism, and will make an initial attempt to argue for a difference between liberal and totalitarian instances of patriotism. When this attempt fails, we will more clearly and carefully define patriotism, and explore the challenges in assessing its moral worth. Then, after a re conception of patriotism, we will return to the question of patriotic differences between totalitarian and liberal governments. As a final note to the reader, no specific moral theory will be employed. As Douglas put it, girl groups gave voice to all the warring selves inside us struggling, blindly and with a crushing sense of insecurity, to forge something resembling a coherent identity...girl group music let us try on and act out a host of ... The main character Tita, had symbols in almost every event in her life. The three symbols that stood out to me most were: Her hands, the cold inside of her and her cooking. The definition of symbols is: A mark or character used as a conventional representation of an object, function or process. I feel the symbolof her hands is a conventional representation of an object. The cold inside of her , is a mark of her character. The cooking could be symbolized as the function or the processes in her life. There are symbolic ways of looking at each of these descriptions. This was a representation of the lack of passion or love received from Pedro. He was her warmth. Dr. Brown told Tita; A pleasant warmth grows within us, fading slowly as time goes by until a new explosion comes along to retrieve it (171). She needed him to keep the fire inside of her lit and the more he was not there for her, the colder she got. No matter how much she knitted her blanket it could never mask the cold inside of her. If one doesn t find out what will set off these explosions, the box of matches dampens, and not a single match will ever be lightened (171). Pedro was the little explosions inside of her. His kisses, his touch and his love is what kept the fire inside of her burning. In the end of the story, Pedro dies and immediately Tita is cold. She covers herself in the extremely long blanket she knitted but needs Pedro to keep herself warm. She would have to find some way, even if it was an artificial one, of striking a fire that would light the way back to her origin and to Pedro (364). She takes the candles John bought her and started eating them. She started thinking about Pedro and their first kiss, and the first time they touched. • 40. Personal Narrative-Defining Moment Ms. Napholz made us write these paragraphs on someone we have memories with. So, I decided to chose you since we have so many awesome memories together. I know that you will think this is very lame but I had to chose someone. Hopefully you will enjoy revisiting some of these moments we had together. About 5 years ago you were snowmobile racing, and you were doing super good until you crashed. You were racing with Dalton. I remember it was very cold outside and it was in early January. It was one of the last races of the night; you went off the edge of the track. The snowmobile went as high as the light fixtures; it was terrifying. Everyone ran over to you to check and see if you were okay. The medics arrived and took you in an ambulance to the nearest hospital. The doctors said that you had broken 5 vertebrates and shattered your tailbone. You were on bed rest for many months but ended up having a great recovery. The first maybe 12 years of our lives together you were pretty mean to me. You would make wait 3 feet behind you for the bus, wait to get inside, push me in the snow, and overall just harass me. These are just a few of the hundreds of ridiculous, cruel things I had to deal with. However, I believe this made us closer. Now we get along great and I don t know where I would be without you. You ve made me a stronger person and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, we went inside and you went into Mom and Dad s room. • 41. The Theories Of Human Development Theories of Human development are relevant and matter in the real world . In my clinical practice as a psychologist in training, I have found human development theories to be very useful in conceptualizing and understanding my client s distress. I used theoretical frameworks that are based on theories of human developmentto guide my interventions in therapy. For example, as a brief psychodynamic clinician, I look to Freud s theory of anxiety to understand how distress was developed for my clients and then based on this information I created interventions that assist me in dismantling my client s defenses in order to reduce their anxiety. It had also guided my behaviors and actions in therapy so that I do not harm my clients. Also, drawing from attachment theory, my role as a clinician is to assess the attachment patterns of my client as well as see how these patterns continued to play out in therapy with me. In role is to provide my clients with a new experience and a different way of relating and connecting to others. Given my work, I believe that theories of human development matter and have a real application in the world. For this essay, I will discuss why theories of human development are relevant and how they matter in the real world. Theories of human development are relevant at the individual level because it helped us make sense and make meaning of our lives. As discussed in Bronfenbrenner s model, the child or the individual is at the center of everything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Of Thee I Sing succeeds as a play that reflects the world around them while poking fun at it. The play itself was fun, colorful, and interesting. From its high energized actors to its well choreographed dancing and singing. Of Thee I Sing is a musical that is full of terrific acting, dancing, staging, and stage directing. Anyone who did not see this production made a mistake not to see it. Of Thee I Sing is about John P. Wintergreen, who runs for President of the United States on the love platform. When he falls in love with the sensible Mary Turner instead of Diana Devereaux, the beautiful pageant winner selected for him, he gets into political hot water. The main characters of the play are John P. Wintergreen ( Joseph Edward Herr) a presidential candidate who, is running his campaign on love. Mary Turner ( Jennifer Totcky) Wintergreens love interest later wife. Diana Devereaux (Katie Whittermore) contest winner Wintergreens administration chose to be his wife before he fell in love with Turner. The play ends with the servants wheeling a large bed into the room, where Mary sits with the babies. Wintergreen leads everyone in proclaiming, Of Thee I Sing. The acting in Of Thee I Sing was nothing but spectacular. The acting from all of the actors was believable. The way how they projected their voices was well done and the how they delivered their lines was well executed. An actor who did these and more was Kyle Laing and Lexi Nieto. Kyle practically stole every scene he was in. He fully embodied his character. From his fast dialogue to his witty dialect. His pacing was great, he did not rush through his lines nor did he slow down. It was well paced. My favorite part of his performance were his facial expressions, he was very charismatic with the time he had on stage to express himself. Lexi Nieto s performance was nothing spectacular. Despite being a member of the ensemble, Nieto captivated my attention every time she was on stage. She made bold acting choices through her hilarious facial expressions, but still managed to not distract from the story. There was clarity for all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
