Essay on Silent Spring
The following quote The sedge is withr d from the lake, And no birds sing, (Keats)
seems like a very simple sentence with no meaning to it. However, after reading
Chapter 6 of
Silent Spring , I realized how loaded the comment is with meaning. The quote is
describing humans and how humans treat the plants here on earth. The quote
describes a scene where humans continue to destroy plants because they feel that they
are in the way or that the plants are not appealing to look at. However, the plants that
humans kill each day with chemicals and pesticides end up ruining the complete area
and stripping it of the natural beauty of the land. The situation cannot be fair when
chemicals are used. Humans today expect that when they kill a plant ... Show more

Birds sang and took baths in it. When chemicals were used, the lake became
contaminated and along with that the birds left that area. In the Chapter, Carson
describes a situation like this. It was a situation where sage was destroyed. When this
happened the animals that used this sage slowly went along with it. The quote and
no birds sing is telling of after the area was damaged by chemicals and the sedge
was withr d, the animals that adapted there also felt withr d and damaged so they left.
This left the area without birds singing.
Carson writes about the beauty of the land and plants. She also tells the uses of
these so called weeds and why they should not be destroyed by chemicals. Carson
tells of a way that when the plants need to be removed, they can be removed safely
without affecting the land around it the way that chemicals do. Carson does not
feel that there is hope for our future. The quote I chose to use tells of no hope
either. The quote is telling that this is what happens when chemicals are used. In
the world today more and more chemicals are being produced to kill off certain
plants. Today s knowledge of chemicals is increasing and each day more people are
replaced with the work of machines. These machines make it easy to spread the
chemicals across the land and can only do harm in this situation of our enviroment.
Increasing pollution of these chemicals are also destroying the ozone. When there are

The Relationship Between Risk And Expected Returns
The Relationship Between Risk and Expected Returns
According to investment glossaries, a risk is a future probability of loss inherent in
any investment (Investopedia Financial Dictionary, 2016). To this day, the positive
correlation between risk and return continues to be the cornerstone of financial
theory. The basic capital asset pricing model (CAPM) formula is built on this
relationship. CAPM provides the required return based on the level of systematic risk
of an investment. The risk associated with an investment is taken to lie along a
scale. On the low risk end of the scale, there are low yielding government bonds and
securities. At the middle of the spectrum are medium performing investments such as
high yielding loan notes, and rental property. At the far end of the scale high risk are
futures, options, and equity investments. However, the positive relationship between
risk and return does not guarantee that taking a greater risk will result in higher
returns. Rather, a higher risk may lead to the loss of a greater amount of capital. This
paper seeks to examine the risk and return relationship and how investors can
determine the optimal trade off.
The risk return principle. It is a principle that the potential returns on investment rise
with the increase in risk. According to this principle, low levels of uncertainty like
in the case of government bonds have low potential returns. For instance, a US five
year Treasury bond yields a return of 1.125
Physical Geography Of Japan
Physical Geography Japan is an asian country that is comprised of 6,852 islands
off of the eastern coast of the asian mainland. This accumulation of islands is
known as a stratovolcanic archipelago. An archipelago is a cluster of islands that
are usually volcanic and occurs in subduction zones. Japan is in the crossroads of
four different tectonic plates the Pacific plate, the Philippine plate, the Eurasian
plate and the North American, and due to the plate movement and subduction of
all these plates land mass has been created. The subduction of the Pacific plate
resulted in Japan being pulled away from mainland asia and created what is known
as the Japan Sea. Of the 6,852 islands Japan is made up of four of them make up
over 97% of Japans
The Marketing Plan Of Ebay Essay
eBay was founded in Pierre Omidyar s San Jose living room back in September 1995.
It was from the start meant to be a marketplace for the sale of goods and services for
individuals.
In 1998, Pierre and his cofounder Jeff Skoll brought in Meg Whitman to sustain the
success.
Meg had studied at the Harvard Business School and had learned the importance of
branding at companies such as Hasbro.
Meg culled her senior staff from companies such as PepsiCo. and Disney, created an
experienced management team with an average of 20 years of business experience
and built a strong vision for the company that eBay is a company that s in the business
of connecting people, not selling them things.
They quickly shed the image of only auctioning collectibles and moved into an
array of upscale markets where the average sale price (ASP) is higher. ASP is a
key metric in determining eBay s transaction fees, so increasing the ASP became
an important item. By forging partnerships with name brands such as GM, Disney
and Sun, eBay has managed to do exactly that. In addition to its auction style sales,
the website has since expanded to include Buy It Now shopping; shopping by UPC
, ISBN , or other kind of SKU ,online classified advertisements (via Kijiji or eBay
Classifieds); online event ticket trading (via StubHub ); and other services. It
previously offered online money transfers through PayPal which was a wholly
owned subsidiary of eBay from 2002 until 2015. The

Delineating Related Intel Pentium Accounting Research Questions
Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to define research questions (below) relating to
Accounting for the Intel Pentium Chip Flaw (Hawkins, Miller Narayanan, 2009). The
questions are as follows; (A3.1) If you were an accountant for Intel, what specifically
would be the relevant accounting research question with respect to the Intel Pentium
chip flaw? (A3.2) What constrains Intel s decisions about how to account for the
Pentium chip flaw? (A3.3) What do you need to know, estimate, and assume to

They ignored to claim the default to avoid the financial effect The accounting
constraint of materiality would indicate that this item could be recorded as an
expense (more expedient) since it is not material enough to influence the decision of a
reasonably prudent creditor or investor(Weygand, 2009). Intel is always constrained
by agreements/ contracts with their lenders to pay from retained earnings. Dividend
is usually distributed to the owners in term profits. Intel may be constrained by the
requirements of other obligations of generally accepted accounting principles
(GAAP).
Estimations and Assumptions to the Research Question
Accountants need to estimate the magnitude of the problem. Intel should use the
management function such as planning, controlling and directing the solution toward
the problem. It is a quantities analysis that needs measurement, facts, and common
sense. The accountant always suggests mathematical models based on statistics such
as confident level, mean, variance, and correlation ration R square (Weygandt, 2009).
Intel might consider contingent theory to estimate a certain event of error. It is
probability of occurrence.
The FAS 5; accounting for contingencies is defined as an existing event/situation or
group/set of events involving some kind of uncertainty which may result in a gain or
loss. This will be resolved when future circumstances/event fail to take place/occur.
Resolution may result in loss of an asset (Financial
Identity And Identity In Coriolanus
He was a kind of nothing, titleless, /Till he had forged himself a name o the fire /Of
burning Rome (_______). In Shakepearse s play, Coriolanus, having a name is
strongly correlated to having an identity, thus if an individual does not have a name
he or she is nothing. Coriolanus is a prominent Roman war hero who had a strongly
developed sense of selfin the beginning of the play. However, as the play progresses
he falters and decides to become dangerously independent, not even wanting to
accept the name given to him by his mother. He continually changes his name and
identity throughout the play. Coriolanus rejects Rome s societal norms and
establishes his own virtues that he lives by. This method of thinking ultimately led
to his banishment from Rome, which also pushed him into forging for himself a
new name. I can relate to Coriolanus struggle to find a name for himself. I feel that
the name given to me by my mother holds no identity in and of itself. Rather, it is
the choices that I make in my own life that will determine what that name will come
to represent. Coriolanus first name, given to him at birth, was Caius Marcius.
Initially, Caius Martius was a strong military general who was confident in his role in
society. As a military general, he made fighting against the Volsces his number one
priority. Due to his overwhelming dedication to his country, Caius Martius was gifted
with the powerful title of Coriolanus. As Herald proclaims, Know, Rome, that all

Macbeth...
Macbeth is a tragedy written by Shakespeare. at the start of the play Macbeth and
Lady Macbeth s relationship is strong and that they see each other as partners of
greatness . Although most of the blame is put onto Lady Macbeth by the audience,
Macbeth already had ambition and was already thinking of murdering King Duncan.
But how exactly did Lady Macbethconvince her husband to murder King Duncan?
Before Macbeth returns home from battle Lady Macbeth is already outlining
Macbeth s flaws and voicing her concern that he is too good hearted to commit the
murder. After reading the letter from her husband, she says: Yet do I fear thy nature,
It is too full o th milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way . This shows that

their baby to make Macbeth vulnerable to her control and this also makes Lady
Macbeth seem cold and careless of her baby.
She then continues to insult his masculinity: When you durst do it, then you were a

Parental Divorce
Parental divorce has had adverse consequences on adolescents and this issue has
over a period of time been of concern. This research is aimed at establishing the
impacts of divorce on the developmental stage of adolescents. In this paper, a
proposal based on determining the exact effects will be keenly underlined. The
study will fundamentally be based on data that will be obtained from a survey that
will be carried out among students in high school and college. In the process, the two
groups are to be established depending on the experience with divorce. One group
will have parental contact, and the other group will be made up of teenagers without
parental contact. In the analysis, the frequencies of the divorce experiences will be

Emotional upheaval, as well as stress, can impair the quality of child rearing skills of
a parent, and this can easily result in negative consequences on children and
adolescents (O Brien, 1992). According to a few studies, after a divorce, most parents
become anxious, depressed, self doubting and angry more than the married people.
Thus, the depressed parents express less affection for their children, communicate
less to the adolescents and often punish
Kansas State University Parking Issues
Many students at Kansas State University have a problem with having to hunt for a
parking spot every time they arrive on campus. Buying a permit every year does
not guarantee you a parking spot; it is more of a hunting permit. It does not seem to
be fair that the university keeps taking away parking spots. Some of these spots were
taken away in order to better the university with a new water treatment plant, but as
the number of enrolled students is on the rise, the number of open parking spots
continues to exponentially fall. Another large complaint among KSU students is the
price of parking. We are proposing KansasState builds a new parking garage to take
care of the parking problems.

The problem with using the ATA bussystem to solve the campus parking problem is
the location of the bus stops, the time waiting for the bus, and the cost of the bus if
the stop is off campus. The free stops on campus are only located within campus.
Off campus students will still have to find a way to get to campus to get on the
bus. If a student wants to get on an ATA bus outside of campus they will be charged

stop or if the miss a stop they have no way to get to
Maintenance Of International Peace And Security
The exact phrase maintenance of international peace and security is used eight times
in the United Nations Charter, but now almost seventy years after the founding of the
organization the international organization s competence in pursuit of this lofty goal
is still subject to debate. The charter of the United Nationsgives the Security Council
the sole power determine the existence of a threat to world peace and prescribe
course of action needed to be taken against it. The five permanent members of the
Security Council each have the power to veto any action by the council. Requiring
the concurrence of five powers with diverse and wide reaching interests makes any
decisive action quite difficult to come by. However the Security Council... Show more

Collective security was a principal goal of the League of Nations and its principal
failure. When Japan invaded Manchuria and Italy invaded Ethiopia, the League
condemned the actions, but none of its members mobilized military force to rollback
the aggressors. Unlike the League, the United Nations has united the militaries of its
several of its members beneath its banner to defeat an aggressive state. However such
action has only occurred twice and only when the proverbial stars aligned.
When North Korea invaded South Korea on June 25, 1950, a young UN was faced
with the first real test of its commitment to collective security. An emergency session
of the Security Council sans the Soviet Union passed a resolution drafted by the
American delegation, which asserted that North Korea has violated the United
Nations charter by invading South Korea and authorized the use of force. A
coalition force under American leadership and the banner of the United Nations was
mobilized. It successively repelled the assault, which had nearly destroyed the
fledgling South Korean republic and pushed back North Korean forces to their
original borders. The American dominated force continued its advance in attempt to
destroy the North Korean state (Stoessinger, 69 85). This new chapter of the war
was in violation of the UN charter. Article 2 of the United Nations charter prohibits
both it and its member states from the use of force
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Sharing Economy
5.Benefits and Downsides of Sharing Economy
Now that the most common claims and rumors about the sharing economy were
discussed in a bit more detail, and some advantages and disadvantages were already
identified, the following chapter takes again a closer look at them. The purpose of
this chapter is primarily directed towards the possibility to predict the future, since
depending on which side outweighs the other, the future prognosis will
correspondingly modify. In the following, by and large, a distinction between the
different types of the sharing economy will not be made, it is intended to serve as an
overall overview. Above all, Uber and Airbnb, as the probably most well known
platform providers, are often used for illustrative purposes. ... Show more content on

All in all, a picture of unfair competition stands out, which needs to be reduced
unconditionally. Because how should a company, which is strictly regulated and, for
example, also has to hand over high tax levies to the state, compete with a company
which is not subject to the same rules, but instead much lower and more convenient
Saturn Is A Gas Giant
Saturn is a gas giant. So large that it can contain about 760 Earths. However, it is
mostly comprised of helium and hydrogen with pockets or methane and ammonia
distributed around the planet. This planet has severe winds that can reach up to 1,100
miles per hour and energy on the planet consists of lightning, ultraviolet radiation, and
charged particles. However uninhabitable Saturn may sound in comparison to Earth,
it does have signs of life. The homeostatic mechanisms an organism must have are
immense in complicated to within Saturn s harsh environment. Kuki, sharing a
semblance to a flying whale, can do just that. Kuki, with it is life on Saturn, must be
able to endure it ever changing the environment and more importantly be able to...

With this mechanism, Kuki is not able to reproduce but can flourish in their
environment. Another system to examine is the integumentary system. Saturn, with
it is unforgiving storms, can cause some trouble for the Kuki. The Kuki, however,
have developed a mechanism to cover themselves in lightweight diamonds on their
skin to redirect winds and prevent facing any detrimental damages that may arise
from these storms. The Kuki also have scales on their tails to protect their offspring
when it comes to deployment into the environment. This mechanism is essential to
survive the windy environment of Saturn. The Kuki also has a digestive system that
contains a methane chamber and a fat storage pocket. Even though Saturn contains an
abundance of Helium and Hydrogen, Kuki uses those elements to stay in the air. The
small pockets of methane, which are relatively large in comparison to Saturn, are the
primary food source of Kuki. When ingesting methane, the methane chamber break
apart the methane and store it in the fat storage pocket. In order to ensure Kuki never
die of malnourishment, the fat storage pocket can nourish Kuki for upto 4 Saturn
years. This allows Kuki to live quite comfortably on Saturn even if resources may be
sparse at times. Another thing to note about Kuki is that they circulate the outer
atmosphere of Saturn of most of their lives which can have temperatures as low as
absolute zero. To prevent their

In fact regulations are different in every country in which the company is present.
Moreover, the sector of human consumption s products involves lots of regulations
regarding the composition of the food, production, marketing, trade, tax and
environmental matters. For example, the use of hydrogenated fats or palm oil is
no longer accepted in Switzerland, Canada, Denmark and New York. In France
these ingredients are not forbidden but all the products which are made with them
have to be clearly indicated. These hydrogenated fats were used by Kraft Foods in
some of its biscuits and thus the company had to remove and replace them by other
ingredient less risky for customers health. All these new regulations could increase

low, even non existent. In fact, barriers at the entrance for a new company are too
important because the market is totally saturated. The threat of new entrants, national

when something might happen and you do not have a chance to fix it. When you
get a chance to do something fun, do it. Travel the country, see places and things
you have never seen. Do not just lay around dying trying to comfort everyone

Cancer, of course is sad, painful and a tragic experience no one wants to have to deal

still find it in yourself to have a little more fun.

Birth Defects Discrimination
The stigma and discrimination of living with severe birth defects
Birth defects are health problems that occurs when a baby is developing in uterus
(in the womb) of an individual (Healthline Editorial Team, 2017). This defect may
be caused by genetic disorders, problems with chromosomes, or environmental
factors; disorders such as mandibulo facial dysostosis, cleft palate and spina bifida.
The lives of people with severe birth defects conditions are often contributed by
stigma as well as discrimination. Stigma is a major cause of discrimination which
leads to rejections, being scorned and gossip at; isolated socially, bullied; and even
labelled. The book, Palacio, R.J Wonder, 2012 demonstrated the story of a boy
named August or Auggie Pullman, a ten year old boy living in Manhattan who was
born with severe birth defects (mandibulo facial dysostosis and a cleft palate)
which left him severely disfigured. It was difficult for him to make friends. He lives
with his parents, his older sister Via; and his dog Daisy. August was homeschooled
up until the fifth grade but his parents decided it was time for him attend a real
school. They enrolled him in Beecher Prep, a neighborhood private school. There
August (Auggie) was faced with many obstacles during the school year because of his
appearance. He dealt with many stigma and discrimination from both students and
parents.

factor and agriculture as source of all wealth Adam smith regarded labor as the wealth
of the nation .He argued that division of labour will increase productivity hence will
increase the wealth of the nation.According to Adam smith division of labour is
limited mainly by size of market . That is only if there is a wide demand of goods ,it
will be produced on a large scale and there will be lots of scope for division of labour
Value According to smith there are two kinds of values value in use and value in

Abstinence vs. Harm Reduction
Abstinence Vs. Harm Reduction
Drug policy regarding the control of the traditional illicit substances (opiates,
cocaine, cannabis) is currently moving through upbeat times in almost all Western
countries. Prohibition on the basis of repressive law enforcement not only seems to
fail on a large scale, but also to create vast additional costs, problems, and harm for
drug consumers, who often find themselves in extreme social, economic, and health
conditions (Fischer 1995: 389). Western countries struggle with the control of drug
abuse. America, for example, has been failing with eliminating or reducing the
chronic issues of drug abuse and crimes associated with drugs. America s goal around
these problems consistently has been complete ... Show more content on

It is just an alternative perspective to drug abuse because the American society s
prohibitionist ideologies pushed people to believe that abstinence was the only way
to solving the problems of drug abuse. For example, Benedikt Fischer talks about the
benefits of the adoption of harm reduction in Germany, in his article Drugs,
Communities, and Harm Reduction in Germany: The New Relevance of Public
Health Principles in Local Responses. Similar to America, Germany dealt with
drug issues by applying the idea of abstinence. However, in the early 1980s, they
have modified their approach to drug controls from a strategy of repression and
stigmatization of drug users to a policy of what is currently discussed under the
umbrella of harm reduction (Fischer 1995: 393). After employing the harm
reduction approach, registered drug users, deaths related to drugs, and drug related
crime has declined significantly. Although drug abuse and drug related issues exist,
one of the main goals of harm reduction was accomplished; reducing the harm and
risk of drugs. Fischer concluded that one is especially startled by how these
relatively dramatic changes and results could be accomplished in a political
ideological environment of a nation and culture characterized by a strong sense of
prohibition and repression (Fischer 1995: 406). Therefore, due to the similar past
policies on drugs, America will experience beneficial changes if it
The Big Lebowski, Fargo And No Country For Old Men
The requirement for the second paper in this Understanding Films course was
focused in on a film selection based on films from 1970 to 2000. The film I choose
this week was obviously True Grit, a film released in 2010 and directed by the
Coen brothers Ethan and Joel. This film was a phenomenal time piece set in the mid
to late 1800 s starring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Hailee Steinfeld. The choice for
this filmcame because of the impact the Coen brothers have had on Hollywood for
the better of three decades. They are renowned for several films including The Big

Coen brothers have been nominated for Academy Awards for best screenplay as

The Coen brothers have made some of Hollywood s most interesting films of the last
couple decades and True Grit is a perfect example of their craftsmanship. In watching
True Grit there were three things that stood out amongst several amazing aspects of
the Coen brothers film making techniques. First, being the multiple angles and shots
the Coen brother utilizes and the frequent reoccurrence throughout the film.
Additionally, the consistency and importance of the musical score throughout the
film and how it ties in so importantly to all of the key scenes in the
Marijuana Should Be Legal Essay
Today it is not uncommon to be watching television and come across an

Reagan told the American people I now have absolute proof that smoking even one
marijuana cigarette is equal in brain damage to being on Bikini Island during an H

Don t get me wrong though, marijuana should not be legal for public use. Many
people believe that if Marijuana was legal it would be more easily available to
children, which is a possibility, but Marijuana, like other drugs, is not for kids.
There are many activities in our society that we permit adults to do, but forbid
children, such as motorcycle riding, skydiving, signing contracts, getting married
and drinking alcohol or smoking tobacco. However, we do not condone arresting
adults who responsibly engage in these activities in order to dissuade our children
from doing so. Nor can we justify arresting adult marijuana smokers on the grounds
of sending a message to children. Our expectation and hope for young people is that
they grow up to be responsible adults, and our obligation to them is to demonstrate
what that means There is no good reason hemp should not be available for industrial

The Impact of Organizational Structure and Culture
The Impact of Organizational Structure and Culture
Organizational structure has been set up to facilitate all goal achievements. It is a
way to motivate their employees and get them to work together. It also helps its
employees to follow the organizations goals, and work together as a team. In order to
do this, they need to have an organized structure to be able to run the company
smoothly. A main foundation of every organization is to post their mission statement
and goals everywhere so that their employees can see them. An organizational culture
can consist of common shared beliefs and values that are established by the
organization s leader, and then communicated and reinforce through various methods,
this helps shape employee perceptions, behaviors and understanding. Overall,
organizational structure and culture can effect progress of many organizations in a
positive and negative way.
The Effects
There is no one size fits all when it comes to structure and culture within an
organization since industries and situations can vary. Furthermore, if an organization
wants to improve its effectiveness and performance, their organizational culture needs
to be strong and provide a strategic competitive advantage when it comes to its
beliefs, and values. Organizations can differentiate itself from one another by those
that do not have structure and culture. It is important to know that employees in all
organizations want to work in an environment of trust and respect where they
Hunter Thompson Gonzo Journalism
The excess use of guns, booze, and too many drugs to count easily summarizes the
life and writing of Hunter S. Thompson. The American culture of the 1960s began to
alter with the hippie generation, and the same old drab writing was not fulfilling the
desires of the American reader. During the 1970s, American literature and journalism
transformed in a way that no one would have ever been able to predict. Thompson
found a way to turn the tables, and effected generations to come in a new dynamic
writing style that many authors and journalist nowadays adopt. The life and writing
of Hunter S. Thompsonhad great influence on the creation of gonzo journalism,
politics, and American culture. Even after forty years, Hunter S. Thompson s
creation of gonzo journalism became a fashionable style of writing that remains
impersonated. Gonzo journalism has numerous different characteristics; one of the
most predominant is writing as a triple agent. To write in this style one becomes
the biographical author and a narrator at the same time. In a journal from Olga
Fayzullina she describes gonzo journalism as, The author s position is always dual,
on the one hand, he is an observer and witness of real events, on the other hand, and
he is an active participant who shows the high degree of reflection and self
reflection. (276). Furthermore, another key to gonzo journalism is the use of fact and
fiction integrated together to portray a desired message to the reader. The use of

My Internship Analysis
This summer I had the chance to take on a great challenge. I completed 120 hours
for my internship while at the same time working as fulltime employee. I truly
mean it when I say it was a great challenge. In only 2 months I completed 120 hours
in an office that was only open 8 5 Monday through Friday. I know it may seem
reasonable to others and you might even ask why that would be something so
difficult for me to do but it was very tough. You see, I work my total of 40 hours a

exhausting. Unfortunately, I am not as privileged as other to have an amazing

I not only learned about the procedures for child support but I also learned things
that will help in any career that I decide to get into. I learned about proper
communication skills. During my time at the office I watched how
communication was very important. Our communication skills can help in many
things and one major thing is to calm a person down, express compassion, give
assurance. I witnessed several clients going into the offices very bothered and
frustrated with their cases or some would even come in sad and disappointed but
the office staff knew how to communicate properly with them and assure them of
any concerns they had. Another thing I learned is multi tasking. The office was all
about multi tasking and doing things fast. I realized that I need to work on my
typing in order to type faster. Since I am interested in office work I do need to type
faster than I do now. Regarding multi tasking, I had to document, file, and place in
order all the paperwork for files that needed to be ready for court. I had to have
over 4 programs open on my desktop to look for photos and files that needed to be
printed and also programs where I had to notate what changes were done to the case
or the latest update on the file. I also learned to proper documentation and filing. I
had to constantly document any changes I made to each file. Each documentation
was detailed and had to have a date the change was made, what was the change, and
who made the change. I also learned the importance of confidentiality. During my
time at the office they were very clear on how confidentiality is their number one
priority. Due to keeping everything confidential, it was a major rule at the office that
anyone who stood and left their office station must lock their computers. All
documents that were printed out by mistake or double and that were not going to be

Rhetorical Analysis Of Dodge Ram Trucks
Dodge Ram Trucks, a division of the Chrysler Group created in 2009, focused on
the public needs with the pickup truck. In a male dominated truck industry,
approximately 11% of pickup trucks in the United States are registered to females.
With such a small number of percentage of women truck owners, Ram debuted a
television advertisement. In 2015, during the 141st Kentucky Derby to appeal to
female buyers. By doing so, they inspired women to break the stereotypes,
specifically the male dominated truckindustry. Through its carefully incorporated
narration, Ram appeals to the courage of women through aural and visual techniques
and utilizes specific examples of females, who overcame obstacles in their profession,
to provide further inspiration and create a valuable rhetorical commercial.
Ram s advertisement immediately begins by utilizing logos and pathos to embolden
women to fight against stereotypes. First, the commercial s narration uses a series of
repetitive rhetorical questions to inspire the audacious emotions of the audience. Ram
repeats have you ever thought multiple times to capture the female viewer s attention.
This technique establishes an understanding and inviting tone that prepares the
viewer for Ram s overarching message. Next, allowing the viewer to ponder these
rhetorical questions, Ram briefly pauses the narration. Following this pause, Ram
articulates their message: You can break a stereotype and throw it into a whole nother

Power Leads to Corruption
Power makes individuals corrupt
Corruption is when people in positions of entrusted power abuse their power for their
own personal gains [or to fulfill the agendas of the group they represent]
(Transparency International). Lord Acton, a nineteenth century historian, argued that
power is the root cause of corruption. The more power one has, the more corrupt one
is likely to become ( Biography of Lord Acton. ). Although some commentators argue
that there is no correlation between power and corruption, however Lord Acton was
right because power makes individuals egocentric, makes the powerful less
sympathetic towards those who are inferior, and makes a person hypocrite.
First of all, power is such a tool that it makes individuals ... Show more content on

They instead increased their own budgets as compared to the last budget and all of
this was at the cost of low subsidies on essential food items, electricity and other the
necessities of life (Ali, Kalbe. Areas That Matter Most. ). Hence a logical conclusion
that follows is that powerful individuals use their power for their personal gains and
are not concerned about the effect of their doings on the society.
Another major reason because of which power tends to corrupt is that people with
absolute power usually become less sympathetic towards those with no or less
power and do not consider the perspective of other individuals. Adam Galinsky, a
psychologist at Northwestern University conducted a series of experiments to find
whether powerful individual give importance to others or not. As part of the
experiment, Galinsky asked the participants to write letter E on their forehead. The
results of the experiment showed that participant who were primed with the feeling
of power wrote E backward, when seen by another person (Lehrer, Jonah. How
Power Corrupts. ). This experiment clearly shows how powerful individuals see the
world through their own eyes and do not care for what other view. Besides this,
example from history also proves the point

Role Of Animals In Ww2
Animals in World War Two
When you think about WWII, you usually think of men, blood, and Adolf Hitler and
his Nazi army. What most people don t think about is the other type of soldier. The
ones with four legs and fur. These furry soldiers packed supplies, led troops through
rough terrains, scouted for bombs, and sometimes simply were pets. Whatever they
were, though, they helped the world through rough times with their strength and
support.
Horses have always been good war animals, as well as camels, mules, and even
elephants. At the start of WWII, over fifty six thousand horses and mules were in
use by the U.S. Army. They carried soldiers into battle and packed supplies over
many miles. As war production increased, though, there was less use for horse and
mules. Instead, the army used mechanisms such as Jeeps and airplanes to get around
and do battle. However, their use in other countries stayed. Up until they got tanks,
the Russian Cassock Cavalry was one of the best in the world. The German Army
used horses in guard duty and battle. In their fight against Japan, the Chinese used
horses very successfully against the enemy.
Another animal who has always been a great use in war is the dog. He was used in

Analysis Of The Story The Story Of An Hour By Kate
Chopin
Death is the wish of some, relief of many, and the end of all. Death, which is often
seen as a great evil, can sometimes be seen as something for the greater good of
someone. To many, death is a liberator and a comforter. It is a journey we ll all have
to embark, sooner or later. Death can be the beginning of the end to many people, an
event which can bring everlasting happiness, but also a shattering sadness. The short
storyThe Story of an Hour, by Kate Chopin, which was published in 1894, presents a
not so common viewpoint of death. One could say that this story has brought about a
brief renewing love for life with one of the main characters. On the other hand, The
Moths by Helena Maria Viramontes shows a painful reaction to death, that is quite
relatable to what one may usually experience. The death in The Moths can be
looked at as a moment of grief in pain, but also a moment for maturity and rebirth.
Moreover, The Story of an Hour depicts death as a problem solver and something
that can bring unimaginable amounts of freedom. Death can be looked at as
perhaps a sort of liberation that can bring about a renewal for life. In other aspects,
death can be viewed as a moment of grief and pain. Lastly, death may work as a spark
which brings another loved one back into your life.
Renewing love for life and freedom are two things that many suddenly feel once
they ve finished grieving from the loss of a loved one. As seen in Chopin s The

can be made orally, or in writing, the agreements constitute of offer and acceptance.

Accounting Game Of Deyonne Essay

Accounting game 1:
Deyonne s assets: 1. 400 sheep 2. 20 acres of land 3. A one room cabin 4. A plow 5.
Two carts 6. An ox
Deyonne s liabilities and deduction of assets: 1. 35 sheep 2. 3 sheep
Due to the information, 20 acres of land equal 80 sheep according to the exchange
rate of last year, a one room cabin equal 3 acres of land and equal 12 sheep finally, a
plow equals 2 goat and equal 2/3 sheep according to last year s exchange rate and 2
carts which were traded with a poor acre of land equals 8 sheep plus 400 sheep. So
Deyonne s total assets are 500(2/3) sheep. Deyonne s liabilities and assets deduction

Therefore, Batonne is wealthier. Accounting game2: Deyonne s income of current
year: 80 sheep Deyonne s loss of current year: 1 ox (equals 5 sheep) Batonne s
income of current year: 1. 20 sheep 2. 40 sheep (which were traded for 10 acres of
land) 3. 5 coats (which worth 25 goats and equal 8(1/3) sheep finally) Explanations:
1. Because it is the comparison of income, the loss of Deyonne cannot be deducted
from the total amount of his income. 2. Batonne traded 40 sheep for 10 acres of
additional land, but the sheep derived from his income. So the 40 sheep should
also be counted as his income. 3. Batonne s wife received 25 goats due to order of
sailing, which should be regarded as part of income. But the other order, which
has not been realized, cannot be regarded as income. 4. As for the 18 sheep that
Batonne traded for food and clothing items and 7 sheep that Deyonne did similarly,
they were part of their original property. So they cannot be regarded as income.
Consequently, according to the information, Deyonne s income of last year was
80 sheep, while Batonne s income was that 20 sheep plus 40 sheep that were
traded for 10 additional land and 5 coats equaling 8(1/3) sheep. Therefore, Deyonne s
income of 80 sheep was versus Batonne s income of 68(1/3) sheep. Deyonne s
income was greater for the past
William Dunham s Journey Through Genius
The author of Journey through Genius, William Dunham, begins this chapter by
depicting how mathematics was spurred and developed in early civilizations.
Dunham focuses primarily on the works and achievements of early Egypt,
Mesopotamia, and Greece in this section. These ancient societies, as they developed,
produced mathematicians such as; Thales, Pythagoras, and Hippocrates, who turned a
basic human intuition for space and quantity into applicable everyday mathematics.
The primary influences driving the development of early mathematics were the issues
of growing civilizations, most notably counting commodities, taxation, and the
division of land equally, rather than a pure desire for understanding that is seen in
mathematics today. These influences culminated in the development of early
arithmetic and geometry. The first civilization that is discussed is early Egypt.
Records have been found referring to mathematics done in Egypt showing a
rudimentary understanding of the Pythagorean Theoremas it pertains to the
construction of triangles with whole number sides before the creation of the
Pythagorean Theorem. An example lies in an ancient Egyptian construction of a rope
with knots forming 12 evenly spaced segments along the length of the rope. They
knew if a trianglehaving sides of 5, 4, and 3 segments was formed it would form a
triangle containing a right angle. However, it is important to state that evidence has
not been found that ancient Egyptians understood exactly
The Media s Negative Influence On The World
When teens unlock their phone, read a magazine or turn on the TV, they see what
the media wants them to see. When teens look at the media, they see celebrities
with luxury life styles that they dream to have. These celebrities are then plastered
onto the cover of a magazine and are called beautiful by the whole world. Not only
does the media put out a false reality, but they also promote negative behavior and
information. Teens are constantly being fed this negative information. Whenever
teens get on any social media site they can see a video about someone getting
murdered. From common knowledge they know that murder is wrong, but yet
turn around and play games such as Grand Theft Auto that encourages this same
criminal behavior. Overall, the media has such a negative influence on the world

Homelessness And Discrimination Essay
Discrimination for being a felon causes homelessness
A problem I have noticed in my community is homelessness. A portion of the
homeless is due to being unable to rent a house because of having a criminal history.
According to the Pierce County Homeless Point in Time Report there were 1526
cases of homelessness reported in the county this does not count the induvial people
it is measured by head of households. 73% of those cases reported that the head of
house hold had a criminal history.
That is a large amount of people, including whole families that are homeless over
this matter. These people are living in shelters or with friends and family because
they are unable to rent their own place. This is all because they have a criminal
record, and now the record is being used to judge and discriminate against. One
would think this would fall under the fair housing act. Sadly you couldn t be more
wrong in fact Robert Wise said To give felons the protection of the Fair Housing
Act protects them from the consequences of their own conduct. No such protection
is presently afforded to anyone by the fair Housing Act . And he couldn t be more
wrong it s not protection against the consequence of the action, its giving someone
an even playing field, it s allowing a person to obtain a home for their family, and
have dignity. And let me add some more madness to this already un just issue, most
of these people have jobs, and can afford to rent and pay utilities, but yet they find
Francisco Pzarro Research Paper
Francisco Pizarro
Francisco Pizarro was one of the many conquistadors who explored the then New
World. It was also known as the Americas. Pizarro mainly conquered the South
America area where Peru now stands. He is best known for overthrowing the Inca
king Atahualpa and establishing the capital Lima in Peru. Pizarro was born an
illegitimate child of Gonzalo Pizarro, who was a spanish captain who did several
campaigns in Italy. When Pizarro was a boy he was intrigued of stories of the New
World, he gained a quick interest in exploring. So he joined Vasco NГєГ±ez De
Balboa on an expedition to the Americas. On this expedition they discovered the
Pacific Ocean. Of course the Pacific Ocean was already found by early settlers but
this was probably the first time someone had actually documented the findings of this
huge mass of water. Francisco Pizarro also had threes brothers who accompanied
him on his road to conquering Peru for Spain. He also had a partnership with Diego
de Almagro, which went bitter after a few years of adventuring. ... Show more content

Francisco wanted to explore so on 1513 he followed his dreams and pursued it
with Vasco Nunez de Balboa, where they found the Pacific Ocean and Pizarro
became mayor of Panama city. This expedition was the kickstarter for Pizarro s
future, he rose in power and was able to explore the New World for Spain with
Diego Almagro. 1524 marked the day the two conquistadors teamed up to explore
Peru. They went as far as the San Juan River. They also went down south past the
equator and brought back word of the the land to Spain. In 1528, Pizarro went back
to Spain to procure a commission from Emperor Charles the fifth (Biography.com).
This allowed Pizarro to conquer the southern territory he explored with Almagro to
create a Spanish province. This province is now known as
The Things They Carried Journal Assignment
Katie Bishop Period 2 The Things They Carried Journal Assignment The things the
soldiers carried defined their character, both the physical things and the
metaphorical things. All of the men physically carried their gear, which included
things like their helmet, jungle boots, grenades, firearms, and sometimes each
other. Mentally they had to carry their brutal memories of war and the terrible
things they encountered. 1st Lieutenant Jimmy Cross carried letter from his
girlfriend Martha, 2 photographs of her, and a pebble good luck charm; all of
these things show that he is compassionate and cares deeply about his girlfriend.
He also carried the lives of his men on his shoulders. Dave Jensen can be
characterized as a hygienic person; he carried extra socks, a toothbrush, floss, soap,
and foot powder. Along with his hygienic items, he carried a rabbit s foot for good
luck. Many other men carried things that symbolized important things; Norman
Bowker carried a tongue from an enemy and a diary, Rat Kiley carried comic
books, and Kiowa carried a pair of moccasins, an illustrated new testament, and his
grandfather s hatchet. Each man carried memories, stress, and knowledge.
Personally I carry memories, that are each important in their own ways, and I
carry a little wooden lady bug with me for good luck. In the chapter On the Rainy
RIver, Time receives his draft notice. Tim doesn t necessarily agree with the whole
war but he agrees with some parts of it, so he really has no
Though the agreement and acknowledgement from both

Though the agreement and acknowledgement from both sides was a great
accomplishment, the fault in the Oslo Accords was lack of action and enforcement,
leading way into accusations from both sides. While it is important for both sides to
be careful, a peace talk strong enough to mend the schism between Israeland Palestine
should be clear in its wording, and the agreements should be enforced. Both sides
unresolved conflicts over land, refugees, education, and terrorism prevent any
progress from being made. An attempt to establish peace without resolution of these
problems will result in failure, proven in past negotiation efforts. The core sources of
the Israeli Palestinian conflict should be the focus of the peace talks. It is integral...

The Palestinians, in peace talks, have proposed balanced land swaps as well (
Middle East peace ). If both sides negotiate with open minds, compromise can be
made. Because of lack of enforcement, peace agreements that should have worked
have failed. Both sides still struggle over matters that, according to negotiations of the
past, should not exist.
However, this is not the end to the struggle between the two states. Though some
controversies, such as land, are fairly straightforward, others are not. Apprehensions
about security and refugees are main concerns of Israel. Allowing refugees could
result in a possible change of demographic to a Palestinian majority. As a people that
have been persecuted throughout history, the Jewish have an extremely legitimate
reason to have safety and security a top priority. They desire a homeland free of
jeopardy. Palestinian organizations in the past (and present, involving rejectionist
groups such as the Hamas) have wanted the destruction of Israel as a state (
Negotiations). Israel accuses Palestine of not taking action against these terrorist
groups, and fears that in the future, a Palestinian state could be overtaken by one.
Palestine believes that a two state solution is actually necessary for security. Though
both sides have many concerns, to make decisions and statements based on general,
wide assumptions is also incredibly dangerous for both sides, and prevents progress.

Language Influences On Children s Formation Of Social...
Social categories such as race and gender can be difficult for children to understand
and sort out. It is already remarkable that they acquire such large amounts of
knowledge during their early years, and social categories are just a small part of
that. They start to understand that every object they encounter has a name through
language so it would not be surprising to learn that language plays a vital role in
children s formation of social categories as well. The manner in which adults talk and
teach children in particular are how language influences their thoughts. One example
of how children have to sort and form categories is because they are presented with
so many different characteristics about a person such as language, hair color,... Show

The focus of the investigation was on how children develop categories through noun
labels, visual cues, or non intrinsic cues. The study addressed the hypothesis that
young children assimilate social categories to biological ones, essentializing them as
they do species kinds. They explored the hypothesis that children will differentiate
intrinsic cues like skin color over nonintrinsic cues like clothing when forming
representations of social groups. One important theme is that noun labels encourage
children to form categories, especially those that apply to people. In other words,
language appears to play a huge role in forming concepts of race and gender. This
idea is interesting because it contrasts with the norm belief that children make social
categorization alone through visual cues as the children take in all the information
around them and as they become more exposed to different parts of society. Another
important idea is that only in the presence of noun labels were visual cues sufficient
to form categories. It conveys that there is a certain way that children think about
these social categories of race and gender (Baron, Dunham, Banaji Carey, 2014).
The study consisted of 24 different white children for each of the seven experiments.
In the various experiments, the first one demonstrated that in the absence of a visual
cue, a noun label supports the social categorization among both four year
Popcorn History
A history of popcorn
When it comes to popcorn, more often than not it s the sound that hits you first with
its pop, pop, popping . It starts off nice and slowly before heading full steam ahead
into a firestorm of kernels as they almost magically transform into clouds of crunchy
white goodness. The next thing you ll no doubt notice is the incredible smell that
wafts through the room and eventually the entire house, slowly pulling you in as it
teases your nose. You ll feel weak as the popcorntantalises your taste buds. By the
time your teeth crunch down on the first bite, you re totally and utterly hooked.
Popcorn happens to be one of the most popular snacks and described by some as a
completely irresistible treat. As they say, the proof is... Show more content on

His recipe included the use of a grill, a half pint glass of popcorn and a frying pan
that had been rubbed with lard or butter. He advised holding the pan over the fire
whilst constantly stirring or shaking the corn and within a few minutes, the
popcorn should have turned inside out to reveal the delicious white, fluffy centre.
He also mentioned the addition of salt or sugar whilst it was still hot for added
flavour. The issue with this particular method however seemed to be with the lard
or butter. The butter would usually begin to burn before the pan reached a hot
enough temperature and the lard would create popcorn that was covered in slime
like grease. It wasn t until the latter portion of the 19th century that a more efficient
way of popping popcorn was discovered. What were deemed to be poppers were
actually boxes made of tight wire gauze and had long handles attached. They were
designed to be held over an open flame. The design of poppers offered a number of
benefits including the containment of popped kernels whilst also keeping any hands
away from the heat source. Over the years, the popper became hugely popular and
as a result a number of improvements were made to make it bigger and better than
ever. Due to the improvements, popcorn became even more accessible to the masses
of people wanting to get their hands on
The Pros And Cons Of Plea Bargaining In The United States
Plea Bargaining
In the United States, there are many successful criminal prosecutions that end with
jury trials. Many criminal cases are being resolved through a plea bargaining. This
would usually be before a trail.
Plea bargaining is when there is an agreement in a criminal case between the
prosecutor and defendant that typically involves the defendant s to pleading guilty
in order to be able to receive a lesser offenses or sentences. When this agreement is
being made it allows for the immediate resolution of cases where there is little
disagreement, or the evidence of guilt is overwhelming. When a plea Bargain is taken
place, it increases efficiency for the courts and able to reduce expense and time of the
defendant.
A defendant would accept a plea bargaining to be able to avoid having a more serious
charge, to have fewer charges being brought against them, or to avoid the expenses
and stress of going thought a trail. When the defendant is plea bargaining it would
provide some security because it allows them to negotiate the terms of sentencings
which is under some other circumstances that may remained mysterious until after the
trail is finish.
When a defendant has taken a plea, they are missing out on the opportunity to be
found not guilty. This is happening for multiple reasons even when it s a strong case.
Therefore, also when a defendant takes a plea bargain they are waives many
objections and opportunities to inspect or challenge evidence again the defendant.

There are some important factors that determine success. Time management, self
awareness, and emotional intelligence are just a few. Victor Hugo once said, He
who every morning plans the transactions of that day and follows that plan carries
a thread that will guide him through the labyrinth of the most busy life. (Goodreads

eludes people. Sew the seeds of success early, plan to be sucessful. We must work the

we sow. We need a plan. Time
managementplans are really life management plans.
Our daily lives can easily get too hectic to control. If we make a plan and stick to it,
we can overcome most stress. Stress is a reaction that comes from the unknown. If
you plan, it makes you more involved and in turn, more invested. Keep to the plan.
That way, if life throws you off, you can deal with the issues and continue on. The

it is even more important to schedule your time. In the article, The Successful Person

americanisation of australian television Essay
The Americanization of Australian Television is a sad and terrible thing. It is a
process whereby ordinary Australians are bombarded every day with images of
American lifestyle, so much that it merges almost unnoticed into their own lifestyle.
It is a process whereby our home grown entertainment industry is overwhelmed by the
enormous powerhouse of the American economy, with drastic effectsupon the modern
Australian nation. Not only is Australian free to air TV being dominated by American
produced shows, but a lot of the content on the Australian TV shows is sourced from
America. American culture is part of Australian mass consumer culture, It dominates
our television.

this issue there are so many more that do not see the affect the American TV culture
is having on Australian television and its identity, the distinction between what is
inside and outside Australian culture is slipping away.
The influence of Americanisation upon Australian Free to air TV is clearly evident,
If we look at the top 10 shows that are viewed by the Australian public today it
would be obvious that the top two shows are both American produced, Lost and
Desperate Housewives (Top 10 shows, Who Magazine.).
Lost and Desperate Housewives are doing very well, loading up the viewing
figures in the US favour. But go back six months and the picture would be far more
balanced. Jump eight years back, and Blue Heelers was holding its own against
Friends (Bell Phillip, Television 1997 Twenty Most popular programs). The
Australian audience is becoming more Americanised, as more and more prefer
watching American TV shows opposed to the ones made in Australia. Shows like
SVU, Law and Order, CSI (and its derivatives), NCIS, and the OC, dominate the TV
screens of many Australian households today. Ordinary Australians spend many
hours watching TV (especially Australian youth),
Virginia Hazing Law Case Study
1.The alleged facts that gave rise to the plaintiff s case was that during the University
of Virginia s (UVA) Men Swim team introduction or welcome week , the plaintiff
along with other freshmen UVA swimmers were subjected to hazing that included
acts such as, physical and mental abuse, force of obsessive alcoholic beverage intake,
false imprisonment, and threats of sodomy against the freshmen swimmers.
According to the plaintiff, if the underclassmen did not comply with any of the
requests or duties that the upperclassmen told the underclassmen swimmers to
complete, they were forced into dangerous and life threatening acts. However, when
the head coach was informed about the heinous acts being performed by the
upperclassmen, the coach simply informed the plaintiff that he could practice
separately from the team. Unfortunately, the coach informed the plaintiff practicing
during a different time from the rest of the team would not guarantee protection from
any future attacks. These acts against the plaintiff from the upperclassmen of

In regards to the case article, the Virginia Hazing Law states that the way that a court
can rule for the plaintiff with a claim of hazing is if the plaintiff has been suffered
bodily harm with physical signs. Therefore, the plaintiff who brings up such claims
has the burden of proof to bring medical documents and/or photos that prove the
claim of hazing, which was accompanied with bodily harm. Unfortunately, this was a
problem for the plaintiff in this particular case. In the case of hazing within UVA Men
s Swim team, the plaintiff filed a claim against the defendants of hazing. However, the
defendant, in agreement with the court, stated that the hazing of the plaintiff could
not stand because the plaintiff did not acquire any physical bodily harm from the
alleged hazing. In addition, the plaintiff did not seek medical attention to support his
claims. Therefore, the claim does not stand under the Virginia Hazing
Descriptive Essay About My New House
I looked back at my house, the green peeling paint on the door, the ripped screen
door, the huge window at the top of the house, from which you could see into my
room, and I only had one thought, this is no longer my home. I tore my gaze away
from the house and entered the car. The floor had so much of our boxes and
suitcases, I was forced to lift my feet so I could fit. My neighbors weren t home
yet, so I wasn t able to say goodbye to them. I wished they were there. I d always
been really close with my neighbors. They took care of me when my sister was
born, and waited for my grandpa to take me to the hospital. I was especially close
to the neighborhood kids; ever since I could talk they came over almost every
week. I wondered if my new neighborhood would be like this. The engine vroomed
to life and away from the beautiful, old house we went. In less than ten minutes, we
arrived at my new house. The front was undeniably gorgeous. The grass was not
the yellowish brown brought on from the drought, instead it was a lively green that
I had dreams about running in. The fall leaves around the trees enhanced the
feeling of Christmas soon to come and the stairs leading up to the front door were
clean. They had no muddy footprints that I was so used to seeing on my concrete. I
walked up the steps slowly. I had a half witted hope that if I moved slow enough I
d end up back at the Azusa house. I didn t move slow enough. I walked through the
doorway and into a corridor type area

Service Learning At Fraser School
I participated in service learning at Fraser school in Richfield. Starting in September
I helped out in a toddler age classroom every Thursday. Fraser school is a preschool
setting for infants and toddlers. Besides getting the children kindergarten ready and
offering a somewhat typical day of daycare/school, Fraser offers occupational,
physical, and speech therapy. Some of the children have disabilities and some do
not, Fraser is not discriminatory and they provide care for anyone. Some of the
things I did in the classroom were prepare snack and lunch for the children, play
games, participate in art projects, music, and reading, and play games with the
children. The two teachers really appreciated my help, as I was provided an extra
hand for them while they prepared daily activities. Playtime was usually hectic for
the group and it needed to be closely monitored. I was also able to keep the children
safe and keep a close eye on the total of twelve toddlers during playtime. My
experiences at Fraser helped me understand many topics we talked about in our Intro
to Sociology class. A few topics that stood out to me the most were the idea of social
integration and many of the functions of the educationsystem, the three stages in the
development of self, institutional discriminationwith minority and group divisions.
Looking at the education system, a lot of things we talked about in class related to
the Fraser school. Because Fraser school has a lot of children who have

The Differences between
Public Sector and Private Sector
SUMMARY
When we examine public sector versus private sector, plenty of differences come to
mind. In defining each, we learn a private sector in an economy consist of all
businesses and firms owned by ordinary members of the general public. It also
consists of all the private households in which people live. The public sector in an
economy is owned and controlled by a government. It consist of government
businesses and firms and goods and services provided by the government such as the
national health service, state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, government organizations that are funded through market sales or
user charges often have concomitantly greater autonomy from governmental controls.
Majority of public sectors are managed under a bigger chain of command and
control, while private sectors mostly operate in a corporate setting. As for the
differences with their policy decisions, the activities in the public sector have a
goal of adhering to what is indicated by law, while the private sector is driven by
the rules of shareholders and corporate owners. Schmidt (2008) states, The
research agenda of companies is more focused and targeted and therefore
perceived as easier to handle for managers. Also, the decision making process is
different. Managers of private enterprises can faster and easier change orientation,
focus and targets. This implies, according to some managers, that the
instrumentation used in the private sector is different from the one used within
public research. [pic][pic]Finally, the beneficiary of the services provided by the
public sector, is the general public. These goods and services are sometimes provided
free and in other cases consumers have to pay a price. The goal

  • 2. Essay on Silent Spring The following quote The sedge is withr d from the lake, And no birds sing, (Keats) seems like a very simple sentence with no meaning to it. However, after reading Chapter 6 of Silent Spring , I realized how loaded the comment is with meaning. The quote is describing humans and how humans treat the plants here on earth. The quote describes a scene where humans continue to destroy plants because they feel that they are in the way or that the plants are not appealing to look at. However, the plants that humans kill each day with chemicals and pesticides end up ruining the complete area and stripping it of the natural beauty of the land. The situation cannot be fair when chemicals are used. Humans today expect that when they kill a plant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Birds sang and took baths in it. When chemicals were used, the lake became contaminated and along with that the birds left that area. In the Chapter, Carson describes a situation like this. It was a situation where sage was destroyed. When this happened the animals that used this sage slowly went along with it. The quote and no birds sing is telling of after the area was damaged by chemicals and the sedge was withr d, the animals that adapted there also felt withr d and damaged so they left. This left the area without birds singing. Carson writes about the beauty of the land and plants. She also tells the uses of these so called weeds and why they should not be destroyed by chemicals. Carson tells of a way that when the plants need to be removed, they can be removed safely without affecting the land around it the way that chemicals do. Carson does not feel that there is hope for our future. The quote I chose to use tells of no hope either. The quote is telling that this is what happens when chemicals are used. In the world today more and more chemicals are being produced to kill off certain plants. Today s knowledge of chemicals is increasing and each day more people are replaced with the work of machines. These machines make it easy to spread the chemicals across the land and can only do harm in this situation of our enviroment. Increasing pollution of these chemicals are also destroying the ozone. When there are other ways to rid
  • 3. The Relationship Between Risk And Expected Returns The Relationship Between Risk and Expected Returns According to investment glossaries, a risk is a future probability of loss inherent in any investment (Investopedia Financial Dictionary, 2016). To this day, the positive correlation between risk and return continues to be the cornerstone of financial theory. The basic capital asset pricing model (CAPM) formula is built on this relationship. CAPM provides the required return based on the level of systematic risk of an investment. The risk associated with an investment is taken to lie along a scale. On the low risk end of the scale, there are low yielding government bonds and securities. At the middle of the spectrum are medium performing investments such as high yielding loan notes, and rental property. At the far end of the scale high risk are futures, options, and equity investments. However, the positive relationship between risk and return does not guarantee that taking a greater risk will result in higher returns. Rather, a higher risk may lead to the loss of a greater amount of capital. This paper seeks to examine the risk and return relationship and how investors can determine the optimal trade off. The risk return principle. It is a principle that the potential returns on investment rise with the increase in risk. According to this principle, low levels of uncertainty like in the case of government bonds have low potential returns. For instance, a US five year Treasury bond yields a return of 1.125

This accumulation of islands is known as a stratovolcanic archipelago. An archipelago is a cluster of islands that are usually volcanic and occurs in subduction zones. The subduction of the Pacific plate resulted in Japan being pulled away from mainland asia and created what is known as the Japan Sea. • 5. The Marketing Plan Of Ebay Essay eBay was founded in Pierre Omidyar s San Jose living room back in September 1995. It was from the start meant to be a marketplace for the sale of goods and services for individuals. In 1998, Pierre and his cofounder Jeff Skoll brought in Meg Whitman to sustain the success. Meg had studied at the Harvard Business School and had learned the importance of branding at companies such as Hasbro. Meg culled her senior staff from companies such as PepsiCo. and Disney, created an experienced management team with an average of 20 years of business experience and built a strong vision for the company that eBay is a company that s in the business of connecting people, not selling them things. They quickly shed the image of only auctioning collectibles and moved into an array of upscale markets where the average sale price (ASP) is higher. ASP is a key metric in determining eBay s transaction fees, so increasing the ASP became an important item. By forging partnerships with name brands such as GM, Disney and Sun, eBay has managed to do exactly that. In addition to its auction style sales, the website has since expanded to include Buy It Now shopping; shopping by UPC , ISBN , or other kind of SKU ,online classified advertisements (via Kijiji or eBay Classifieds); online event ticket trading (via StubHub ); and other services. It previously offered online money transfers through PayPal which was a wholly owned subsidiary of eBay from 2002 until 2015. The

They ignored to claim the default to avoid the financial effect The accounting constraint of materiality would indicate that this item could be recorded as an expense (more expedient) since it is not material enough to influence the decision of a reasonably prudent creditor or investor(Weygand, 2009). Intel is always constrained by agreements/ contracts with their lenders to pay from retained earnings. Dividend is usually distributed to the owners in term profits. Intel may be constrained by the requirements of other obligations of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Estimations and Assumptions to the Research Question Accountants need to estimate the magnitude of the problem. Intel should use the management function such as planning, controlling and directing the solution toward the problem. It is a quantities analysis that needs measurement, facts, and common sense. • 8. Identity And Identity In Coriolanus He was a kind of nothing, titleless, /Till he had forged himself a name o the fire /Of burning Rome (_______). In Shakepearse s play, Coriolanus, having a name is strongly correlated to having an identity, thus if an individual does not have a name he or she is nothing. Coriolanus is a prominent Roman war hero who had a strongly developed sense of selfin the beginning of the play. However, as the play progresses he falters and decides to become dangerously independent, not even wanting to accept the name given to him by his mother. He continually changes his name and identity throughout the play. Coriolanus rejects Rome s societal norms and establishes his own virtues that he lives by. This method of thinking ultimately led to his banishment from Rome, which also pushed him into forging for himself a new name. I can relate to Coriolanus struggle to find a name for himself. I feel that the name given to me by my mother holds no identity in and of itself. Rather, it is the choices that I make in my own life that will determine what that name will come to represent. Coriolanus first name, given to him at birth, was Caius Marcius. Initially, Caius Martius was a strong military general who was confident in his role in society. As a military general, he made fighting against the Volsces his number one priority. Due to his overwhelming dedication to his country, Caius Martius was gifted with the powerful title of Coriolanus. But how exactly did Lady Macbethconvince her husband to murder King Duncan? Before Macbeth returns home from battle Lady Macbeth is already outlining Macbeth s flaws and voicing her concern that he is too good hearted to commit the murder. Thus, the depressed parents express less affection for their children, communicate less to the adolescents and often punish

Buying a permit every year does not guarantee you a parking spot; it is more of a hunting permit. It does not seem to be fair that the university keeps taking away parking spots. Some of these spots were taken away in order to better the university with a new water treatment plant, but as the number of enrolled students is on the rise, the number of open parking spots continues to exponentially fall. Unlike the League, the United Nations has united the militaries of its several of its members beneath its banner to defeat an aggressive state. However such action has only occurred twice and only when the proverbial stars aligned. When North Korea invaded South Korea on June 25, 1950, a young UN was faced with the first real test of its commitment to collective security. An emergency session of the Security Council sans the Soviet Union passed a resolution drafted by the American delegation, which asserted that North Korea has violated the United Nations charter by invading South Korea and authorized the use of force. A coalition force under American leadership and the banner of the United Nations was mobilized. It successively repelled the assault, which had nearly destroyed the fledgling South Korean republic and pushed back North Korean forces to their original borders. The American dominated force continued its advance in attempt to destroy the North Korean state (Stoessinger, 69 85). This new chapter of the war was in violation of the UN charter. Article 2 of the United Nations charter prohibits both it and its member states from the use of force

The Kuki also has a digestive system that contains a methane chamber and a fat storage pocket. Even though Saturn contains an abundance of Helium and Hydrogen, Kuki uses those elements to stay in the air. The small pockets of methane, which are relatively large in comparison to Saturn, are the primary food source of Kuki. When ingesting methane, the methane chamber break apart the methane and store it in the fat storage pocket. It is just an alternative perspective to drug abuse because the American society s prohibitionist ideologies pushed people to believe that abstinence was the only way to solving the problems of drug abuse. For example, Benedikt Fischer talks about the benefits of the adoption of harm reduction in Germany, in his article Drugs, Communities, and Harm Reduction in Germany: The New Relevance of Public Health Principles in Local Responses. Similar to America, Germany dealt with drug issues by applying the idea of abstinence. However, in the early 1980s, they have modified their approach to drug controls from a strategy of repression and stigmatization of drug users to a policy of what is currently discussed under the umbrella of harm reduction (Fischer 1995: 393). After employing the harm reduction approach, registered drug users, deaths related to drugs, and drug related crime has declined significantly. Although drug abuse and drug related issues exist, one of the main goals of harm reduction was accomplished; reducing the harm and risk of drugs. Fischer concluded that one is especially startled by how these relatively dramatic changes and results could be accomplished in a political ideological environment of a nation and culture characterized by a strong sense of prohibition and repression (Fischer 1995: 406). Therefore, due to the similar past policies on drugs, America will experience beneficial changes if it

  • 33. Analysis Of The Story The Story Of An Hour By Kate Chopin Death is the wish of some, relief of many, and the end of all. Death, which is often seen as a great evil, can sometimes be seen as something for the greater good of someone. To many, death is a liberator and a comforter. It is a journey we ll all have to embark, sooner or later. Death can be the beginning of the end to many people, an event which can bring everlasting happiness, but also a shattering sadness. The short storyThe Story of an Hour, by Kate Chopin, which was published in 1894, presents a not so common viewpoint of death. One could say that this story has brought about a brief renewing love for life with one of the main characters. On the other hand, The Moths by Helena Maria Viramontes shows a painful reaction to death, that is quite relatable to what one may usually experience. The death in The Moths can be looked at as a moment of grief in pain, but also a moment for maturity and rebirth. Moreover, The Story of an Hour depicts death as a problem solver and something that can bring unimaginable amounts of freedom. Death can be looked at as perhaps a sort of liberation that can bring about a renewal for life. In other aspects, death can be viewed as a moment of grief and pain. Lastly, death may work as a spark which brings another loved one back into your life. Renewing love for life and freedom are two things that many suddenly feel once they ve finished grieving from the loss of a loved one. As seen in Chopin s The Story of an Hour the main

Because it is the comparison of income, the loss of Deyonne cannot be deducted from the total amount of his income. 2. Batonne traded 40 sheep for 10 acres of additional land, but the sheep derived from his income. So the 40 sheep should also be counted as his income. 3. Batonne s wife received 25 goats due to order of sailing, which should be regarded as part of income. But the other order, which has not been realized, cannot be regarded as income. 4. As for the 18 sheep that Batonne traded for food and clothing items and 7 sheep that Deyonne did similarly, they were part of their original property. So they cannot be regarded as income. Consequently, according to the information, Deyonne s income of last year was 80 sheep, while Batonne s income was that 20 sheep plus 40 sheep that were traded for 10 additional land and 5 coats equaling 8(1/3) sheep. Therefore, Deyonne s income of 80 sheep was versus Batonne s income of 68(1/3) sheep. Deyonne s income was greater for the past
  • 39. William Dunham s Journey Through Genius The author of Journey through Genius, William Dunham, begins this chapter by depicting how mathematics was spurred and developed in early civilizations. Dunham focuses primarily on the works and achievements of early Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Greece in this section. These ancient societies, as they developed, produced mathematicians such as; Thales, Pythagoras, and Hippocrates, who turned a basic human intuition for space and quantity into applicable everyday mathematics. The primary influences driving the development of early mathematics were the issues of growing civilizations, most notably counting commodities, taxation, and the division of land equally, rather than a pure desire for understanding that is seen in mathematics today. These influences culminated in the development of early arithmetic and geometry. The first civilization that is discussed is early Egypt. Records have been found referring to mathematics done in Egypt showing a rudimentary understanding of the Pythagorean Theoremas it pertains to the construction of triangles with whole number sides before the creation of the Pythagorean Theorem. An example lies in an ancient Egyptian construction of a rope with knots forming 12 evenly spaced segments along the length of the rope. They knew if a trianglehaving sides of 5, 4, and 3 segments was formed it would form a triangle containing a right angle. However, it is important to state that evidence has not been found that ancient Egyptians understood exactly

A portion of the homeless is due to being unable to rent a house because of having a criminal history. According to the Pierce County Homeless Point in Time Report there were 1526 cases of homelessness reported in the county this does not count the induvial people it is measured by head of households. 73% of those cases reported that the head of house hold had a criminal history. That is a large amount of people, including whole families that are homeless over this matter. These people are living in shelters or with friends and family because they are unable to rent their own place. This is all because they have a criminal record, and now the record is being used to judge and discriminate against. One would think this would fall under the fair housing act. Sadly you couldn t be more wrong in fact Robert Wise said To give felons the protection of the Fair Housing Act protects them from the consequences of their own conduct. No such protection is presently afforded to anyone by the fair Housing Act . And he couldn t be more wrong it s not protection against the consequence of the action, its giving someone an even playing field, it s allowing a person to obtain a home for their family, and have dignity. However, this is not the end to the struggle between the two states. Though some controversies, such as land, are fairly straightforward, others are not. Apprehensions about security and refugees are main concerns of Israel. Allowing refugees could result in a possible change of demographic to a Palestinian majority. As a people that have been persecuted throughout history, the Jewish have an extremely legitimate reason to have safety and security a top priority. They desire a homeland free of jeopardy. It is already remarkable that they acquire such large amounts of knowledge during their early years, and social categories are just a small part of that. They start to understand that every object they encounter has a name through language so it would not be surprising to learn that language plays a vital role in children s formation of social categories as well. The manner in which adults talk and teach children in particular are how language influences their thoughts. One example of how children have to sort and form categories is because they are presented with so many different characteristics about a person such as language, hair color,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The focus of the investigation was on how children develop categories through noun labels, visual cues, or non intrinsic cues. The study addressed the hypothesis that young children assimilate social categories to biological ones, essentializing them as they do species kinds. They explored the hypothesis that children will differentiate intrinsic cues like skin color over nonintrinsic cues like clothing when forming representations of social groups. One important theme is that noun labels encourage children to form categories, especially those that apply to people. In other words, language appears to play a huge role in forming concepts of race and gender. This idea is interesting because it contrasts with the norm belief that children make social categorization alone through visual cues as the children take in all the information around them and as they become more exposed to different parts of society. Another important idea is that only in the presence of noun labels were visual cues sufficient to form categories. It conveys that there is a certain way that children think about these social categories of race and gender (Baron, Dunham, Banaji Carey, 2014). The study consisted of 24 different white children for each of the seven experiments. In the various experiments, the first one demonstrated that in the absence of a visual cue, a noun label supports the social categorization among both four year

His recipe included the use of a grill, a half pint glass of popcorn and a frying pan that had been rubbed with lard or butter. He advised holding the pan over the fire whilst constantly stirring or shaking the corn and within a few minutes, the popcorn should have turned inside out to reveal the delicious white, fluffy centre. He also mentioned the addition of salt or sugar whilst it was still hot for added flavour. The issue with this particular method however seemed to be with the lard or butter. The butter would usually begin to burn before the pan reached a hot enough temperature and the lard would create popcorn that was covered in slime like grease. It wasn t until the latter portion of the 19th century that a more efficient way of popping popcorn was discovered. Many criminal cases are being resolved through a plea bargaining. This would usually be before a trail. Plea bargaining is when there is an agreement in a criminal case between the prosecutor and defendant that typically involves the defendant s to pleading guilty in order to be able to receive a lesser offenses or sentences.
