Vegetarianism Essay
Vegetarianism
As Americans become increasingly more health conscious, vegetarian diets are becoming more and
more common. Produce aisle signs stating eat 5 a day for better health are beginning to pay off, along
with the USDA DHHS Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which state: Many American diets have too
many calories and too much fat (especially saturated fat), cholesterol, and sodium. They also have too
little complex carbohydrates and fiber. Such diets are one cause of America s high rates of obesity and
of certain diseases heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, and some forms of cancer

Evidence is good that risks for hypertension, coronary artery disease, type 2 diabetes, and gallstones
are lower. Data are only fair to poor that risks of breast cancer, diverticular disease of the colon,

http://www.childsecure.com/veggie.htm. Dywer says that the life span of vegetarians to non
vegetarians is similar to or slightly higher, but is influenced in the United States by adoption of many
healthy lifestyle habits in addition to diet, such as not smoking, abstinence or moderation in the use of
alcohol, being physically active, resting adequately, seeking ongoing health surveillance, and seeking
guidance when health problems arise

Experimental studies also support such theories based on the benefits of plant based diets.
Data from the Oxford Vegetarian Study was used to determine whether or not a correlation between

Macro Periodization
After reading the Macro Periodization paper, it surprises me how much planning and precision go into
every aspect of training a athlete at Concordia. Reading the goals of the periodization really stood out
to me, because these goals are what is going to lay out the overall theme of an athlete s training
routine. Whether it s decreasing the risk of injury, or improving the many components that improve an
athlete s performance the goals set for the training of Concordia athletes is amazingly well organized
and executed. What I took from the Program Design Section of the paper, is that Concordia macro
periodization is not focused on training our athletes like bodybuilders, but instead we design out
programs in order to improve the performance of Concordia s athletes. ... Show more content on

In the final, and the most important section of the paper, the Concordia University Wisconsin
Macrocycle is laid out with every detail, and generally workout concepts an athlete will participate in
throughout the athletic year. After reading this portion of the paper, many parts of the macrocycle look
very familiar to me, as I have already gone through them. What I took out of this that I felt was the
most surprising aspect of the macrocycle, was how well thought out, and how far ahead the
preparation is for the training of the university s athletes. The thing that I took out of this paper that I
will try to take with me the rest of my athletic career, is that there is a lot of preparation and effort that
goes into my training here, and these training programs are made for my benefit, so I should not waste
the strength coach s time by not giving it my all in the weight room, or not showing up at all. I will
continue to follow the macrocycle for the rest of my career here at Corcyra, and hopefully it will take
me to new heights in my athletic

The Growth Of Robots In The Robot Invasion By Charlie Gillis
In the article, The Robot Invasion by Charlie Gillis, the author discusses how robots have grown from
the early 1990 s, to the present, and what is expected in the future. He discusses how the beginning of
robotics went from simple robots to more complex robots. For example, Andrew Vardy, a computer
science professor, recently created toy sized robots that could see and was able to sort pucks by color
(Gillie, 2012, p. 478). The biggest challenge faced with the growth of robots is the capability to
respond to changes in the surroundings. However, there is hope for robots evolving because James
McLurkin, a professor from Rice University, programmed robots smaller than a hamburger with
simple combinations of tasks like following the leader, escaping deadlocks, and even cleaning floors
of bread crumbs (p.479) Since 2005, a Massachusetts based company Kiva Systems, has been selling
automated warehouse systems using hundreds of robots that are able to get merchandise from storage
to shipping (p. 479). The warehouse system can triple distribution productivity. Humanoid robots are
being used by the military field, due to their high market price. Baxter, is the first humanoid industrial
use robot available for approximately $22,000.00. Many people are skeptical about the growth in
technology, when it comes to robots, because they fear they could replace jobs that humans perform.
Thomas Frey, an American Futurist, doesn t look at robots taking over human jobs. He sees
advancements for humans to adapt to the future of robots, as robot designers, engineers, and
dispatchers. He feels humans and robots can grow together. The future with robots can be helpful for
humans but can also be a scary situation for people to handle. The article was persuasive to me
because of the many strengths, Charlie Gillis, suggested in the article The Robot Invasion is evidence
that robots have grown through the years and will continue to grow with the future. For example, we
are going from small toy sized robots that can see, to human like droid robots capable of performing
tasks that are difficult for humans to do. Recently, a California based company announced it would
spend $3.1 million to develop farm robots capable

It Is Not Necessary For Type All File
Fortunately, it is not necessary to type all file s name. That is because md5sum command offers a
feature that allows the user to compute a checksum for multiple files with same type or extension. All
the user needs to do is to specify the format of the file within the [file] section in the command.
Assume that there are four files in the current directory: 1.txt , 2.txt , abc.iso and edf.iso . If the user
wants to compute the checksum for all .txt files under the current directory, the user can put *.txt in
the command for file s name which represents all .txt files under the same directory. This action
results in the following output:

How Dumas Made Assumptions On American Culture
5. Throughout the story Dumas made assumptions on Americans and her own family as well. Dumas
collected evidence to prove majority of the things she believed by changing her name for awhile in her
life. When Dumas name became Julie she realized that more people were drawn to her and that she
had more friends too. When the Iranian Revolution came she realized that many kids were only her
friend because they thought she was American due to her name and having no accent. Many people
hate Iranians at this time, and would have never let any of their children around Dumas if they knew
she was Iranian. As she grew up she also realized that many Americans refused to hire her under the
name Firoozeh, but she could not get hired anywhere despite graduating ... Show more content on

Dumas references many popular things in American culture throughout her essay. When she was
deciding on an American name she states, Her reasoning made sense, except that Farrah Fawcett was

every postpubescent boy s bedroom. She also makes the reference when choosing her name that, ...
Fifi . Had I a special affinity for French poodles or been considering a career in prostitution, I would

Americans because we see exactly what Dumas means by both. She included these two lines that
Americans find popular in order to add points into the essay that people can relate to. It also keeps
readers interested having something to be able to relate to when there is not much else many of us
could relate to since our names are usually simple. Furthermore, Dumas says It s like adding a few
new spices to the kitchen pantry. Move over, cinnamon and nutmeg, make way for cardamom and
sumac. She includes the quote to show that the popular spices are not the only ones and sometimes
people need to open their eyes to more unique versions. Overall, Dumas includes items of popular
American culture to help readers see a more clear connection to what she is trying to tell

Benefits Of A Executive Compensation
Introduction
Over a long period of time, many shareholders in various companies have been complaining about the
high executive compensation in the companies. They believe that such executives are draining the
resources of such companies at the expense of the shareholders.
Despite the non binding votes from the shareholders against high levels of executive pay, many
companies have given a deaf ear to them. Reduction of executive compensation has been a major
challenge to many companies. There are various impediments in effecting a reduction in executive
compensation.
Hiring and retaining top caliber executives. In the modern cut throat competition business world,
companies are looking for the best executives, who can lead the company into success. To achieve
such an objective, companies have to offer higher executive compensation.
In addition, so as to retain the best executives who are still working for the company, there is need to
maintain a higher level of executive pay, otherwise such top talent will be lured away by other
companies. This may have the adverse effects of leading the company into poor performance, and
consequently, failure. Therefore, it is paramount that executive compensation is maintained at its best
for the overall good of the company ((Hartzell Starks, 2003).
Reinforcement of succession planning process. It is important that an organization prepares top notch
executives to take over leadership of the company in the future. Without

Life Changing Moment
On July 4, 2012 I was playing lacrosse in Daytona Beach, Florida with my best friend waiting for
someone to order pizza for us. A friend of my friend s family, a few years older than us, brought his
surfboard with him and asked us if we would want to try surfing out before dinner gets there. We were
both athletic kids and never tried surfing before, being that we were from Ohio, so we jumped at the
opportunity to try it. I was first to try riding a wave, and I was able to stand up and successfully ride it
all the way in to shore. My friend tried after and he was also successful his first attempt. This
continued as we rode 9 10 more waves in, when we got bored we both said we were going to ride one
more wave in, then be done. Little did I know my life changing moment was approaching. I stood up
and rode the wave in just like all of the times before. The ocean wind was blowing in my face as the
surfboard was gliding over the water. As I approached the shore the board slightly started to turn as I
lost my balance and went plunging into the water. The top of my head impacted the ocean floor first,
leaving me immediately paralyzed from the neck down, unable to move any part of my body.
The initial shock left me in panic, I couldn t move my body or feel what was going on. I was left face
down in the water not knowing if my friend, or the other kid we were with would know that I was in
trouble before it was too late. Over a minute passed, which felt like hours, and I started

Examples of Jung’s Analytical Archetype Theory in the Film...
Martin Scorsese directed the movie Shutter Island, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, that came out on
February 19, 2010. The movie portrays many different examples of critical theory. Having watched
the movie before my analysis, when I heard of Jung s Analytical Archetype theory I linked it with this
movie almost immediately. Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist, developed the idea that all archetypes are
universal images that come from the collective unconscious and are almost instinctive to us all. Jung s
critical theory examines the unique personal collective unconscious of the characters in the film.
These can vary anywhere from forgotten memories to traumas, keeping all religious, spiritual, and
mythological symbols and experiences intact. It is from this point of view that it becomes easier to
explain all the similarities between stories. There are three factors when you look at archetypes, which
are characters, situations, and symbols.
Plot Overview
Shutter Island is set in the 50 s and Edward Daniels, Teddy, is the protagonist we first encounter in the
beginning of the movie. He s portrayed as a US Marshall who s sent to Shutter Island where there s a
psychiatric facility, Ashecliffe Hospital to investigate the disappearance of a female patient with his
new partner Chuck Aule. Teddy tells Chuck that he wanted to get this case because the man who killed
his wife in a fire, Andrew Laeddis, was also on the island and went missing months ago. As they

Double Jeopardy And The False Of The Fifth Amendment
The 1999 thriller Double Jeopardy tells the story of well off Libby, her husband Nick, and son Matty.
After awaking to an undeniably incriminating incident involving a missing Nick and Libby herself
covered in blood with a bloody knife, Libby finds herself falsely convicted of her husband s murder. A
plot twist reveals that Nick framed Libby and, with a new identity, stole away with their son to New
Orleans. In prison, Libby learns from another inmate that due to the
Fifth Amendment of the Constitution, if she could find Nick, she could actually murder him and get
away with it. This situation provides an entertaining and thought provoking story, however deeper

Libby was falsely accused and convicted of the crime, which is different than if she subsequently
followed through with committing the crime.
One cannot feel free to take advantage of a false conviction by later taking liberty to commit the crime
because of already standing trial for it. Imagine the potential legal hi jinks if bank robbers could rob a
bank, hire someone to prove they robbed the bank, hire someone else to prove they didn t, and then
rob the bank a second time with impunity. Of course each individual robbery would be a different
crime anyway because each incident took place at a different time and date,
Beverage 2 but the hyperbole serves the imagination. The possibilities are ridiculous, albeit amusing
and fun to come up with.
The layman s law resource NOLO answers the question of whether Libby s idea had basis by pointing
out that for the Double Jeopardy clause to have effect, there must be only a single crime in question.
Put more simply, the clause specifies that a defendant cannot be

Death and Time in Slaughterhouse-Five
Death and Time in Slaughterhouse Five
We all wish we could travel through time, going back to correct our stupid mistakes or zooming ahead
to see the future. In Kurt Vonnegut s novel Slaughterhouse Five, however, time travel does not seem
so helpful. Billy Pilgrim, Vonnegut s main character, has come unstuck in time. He bounces back and
forth between his past, present, and future lives in a roller coaster time trip that proves both senseless
and numbing. Examining Billy s time traveling, his life on Tralfamadore, and the novel s
schizophrenic structure shows that time travel is actually a metaphor for our human tendency to avoid
facing the unpleasant reality of death.
Because he cannot control time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are plenty of other moments of time, they reason, when that person is alive. Therefore, death
can be overlooked as a chronological inconvenience.
This philosophy of life and death they instill in Billy himself, speaking to him in a disembodied voice
which floats down into the zoo cage which serves as his home:
We spend eternity looking at pleasant moments like today at the zoo. Isn t this a nice moment? Yes.
[Billy answered] That s the one thing Earthlings might learn to do, if they tried hard enough: Ignore
the awful times, and concentrate on the good ones. (117)
But ignoring death and its suffering is exactly what Billy should not be doing, Vonnegut suggests. To
do so makes him, like the Tralfamadorians, alien and inhuman. He has no sense of his own mortality,
an awareness he needs in order to understand that, as Stephen Marten has observed, life is valuable not
because it is infinite but because it is so scarce (11).
Curiously, Vonnegut uses the Tralfamadorian idea that books, like life, should have no beginning, no
middle, no end, no suspense, no moral, no causes, no effects (88). As he states on the title page of , his
novel is written somewhat in the telegraphic, schizophrenic manner of the tales of the planet
Tralfamadore (i). True to his promise, the book has no orderly plot but

Evaluation Of A Clinical Supervision Project
After completing my clinical supervision project, I can reflect on multiple things I have learned about
myself as a supervisor, including my approach to clinical supervision, my conference skills, and my
strengths and weaknesses. I now recognize more than ever that effective supervisors must consistently
self assess their practice and make adjustments as necessary for continuous improvement, just as
effective teachers do.
Throughout the clinical supervision process, it became apparent that I have strengths and weaknesses
that relate to each step of the process. My most notable strengths were related to my conference skills.
For example, I am comfortable working with people, and believe I make others feel comfortable
working with me. I listen well, and genuinely want to help teachers to improve, which I believe comes
across in my communication with teachers. Working with teachers collaboratively seems to yield
effective results, and I was able to develop strong ideas for each teacher, both in terms of goals for
their observations, and their action plans moving forward after their post conferences. During the
observation portion of the project, I believe I showed some strength in collecting data about each
teacher and their classes. I was able to collect a large amount of data in only one class. In theory, I
believe supervisors have the responsibility of getting to know each teacher individually, including

Old Spice, Become a Man
Most of us have probably seen the Old Spice commercials with the confident and fast talking Isaiah
Mustafa, AKA The Old Spice Man. These commercials first began in early 2010 and have since
become a whole series of some of the most popular commercials on television and the internet. But
what is it about these ads that make them so appealing? To answer this question, this paper will focus
on the commercial that started it all: The Man Your Man Could Smell Like. Although this ad does
surprisingly little to realistically describe the product it is advertising, its clever and difficult to notice
of all three first parts of appeal convinced many people to switch to Old Spice, and, at the same time
helped Old Spice reach a close connection with its target audience, this way embedding itself into our
popular culture.
Before getting into any analysis, I would like to give brief summary of how the ad goes forward.
Mustafa, in a bathroom wearing nothing but a towel, starts a speech which describes how anything is
possible when a man uses Old Spice body wash. In one continuous take, Mustafa moves from the
bathroom to a sailboat, to a sandy beach, and lastly, to horseback riding. The commercial ends with
Mustafa delivering the non sequitur punchline, I m on a horse, and the camera zooms out to show the
audience that Mustafa is in fact riding a horse. Also, Mustafa completes all this

Famous Artist Stereotypes Essay
Stereotypes are well known among humans and many of us have been faced with the criticism of such
stereotypes. One of the most well known stereotypes is those belonging to famous artists. These
stereotypes come from many of the movies created about such artists. Some believe that famous artists
are someone people that are abnormal or odd in their way of thinking or actions. When asked what
comes into someone s mind when asked about famous artists may also be how they are not famous
until death. Along with these beliefs, people believe that artists have a very active sex life. Through
media, these stereotypes are true but in all actuality, they are not correct.
When thinking about famous artists, many people believe that they all suffer from some type of
mental illness. Van Gogh is an example of the stereotype. Seventy days after Vincent moves to Auvers
sur Oise and under the care of Dr. Gachet, he dies from a self inflicted gunshot wound. Many know
the artist to be quite ill mentally along with the fact of Van Gogh cutting his own ear off. The man is

The Mexica Empire against Hernan Cortes Essay
The Totonacs joined forces with Cortes against the emperor and his allies. Other neighboring towns
that resented the deplorable Aztec hegemony stopped paying tribute as a gesture of support for the
Spanish. As a response, those in power at Tenochtitlán sent forces to Cempoala to punish the defiance
but the Spanish with newly acquired allies defeated the advancing army (Castillo). It was here at
Cempoala that the Spanish would meet the Tlaxcalans for the very first time, prompting a standoff
between the two. Openly opposing the Mexica empire, the Tlaxcalans were a force to be reckoned
with since they had twice prevented Aztec domination (Portilla) and were suspicious of the Spanish at

The conquistadors defeated the warriors of the Mexica empire due to a number of reasons that not
only pertain to the weapons they possessed. Interestingly enough, all the steel and horses contributed
to the physical aspect of war but on a psycho social level, it was the Aztecs varying conception of
warfare that led to Spanish victory. Conquistadors were taught to fight to the death and move on to the
next one while the Aztecs would focus a large amount of energy to capturing and taking prisoners
(Brandt). Whether it was for personal reasons or the desire for human sacrifice, this concept impeded
their chances of winning battles. Isolation can be noted as a small factor as well since the Aztecs kept
their empire confined to the continent and never branched out to discover new technology.
The Spanish on the other hand had a very strong background in exploration with ties to naval and
advanced military tactics. These men were cogs in a powerful war machine that was the reason
Charles V had so much land and power. With exploration comes new discovery such as new weapons
and advancements in warfare. In every way possible, Spanish military dominance consisting of steel,
cavalry, and gunpowder was underlying reason the natives never stood a chance.

version first started around 1975, nine years after Walt Disney died. Initially Britain, Italy, Spain and
France were all considered as possible locations, though Britain and Italy were quickly dropped from
the list of potential sites because they both lacked a suitably large expanse of flat land.
The most likely site was thought to be in the Alicante area of Spain, which had a similar climate to
that in Florida for a large part of the year, however the area was also beset by the notorious Mistral

Mitosis Vs Meiosis Research Paper
Mitosis and meiosis are both types of cell divisions that have various similarities and differences.
They comparably associate with cytokinesis and form daughter cells however, meiosis occurs in
primordial diploid cells in animals, plants and fungi, whilst mitosis takes place in somatic cells in
every organism (Vidyasagar. A, 2015). Meiosis differs from mitosis as it undergoes a process known
as DNA recombination, during which genetic material interchange with chromosomes or various
regions of the same chromosome. DNA recombination is a common source of genetic variation.
Mitosis is the continuous process by which the body creates new cells to repair damaged or aging
membranes, fibers and tissues (Clare O Connor, 2008). The end result of mitosis are two genetically
identical diploid daughter cells, which develop from the single parent cell dividing. Conversely, the
meiosis cell divides into four haploid gametes each possessing half the number of chromosomes of the
parent cell (Alberts. B, 2010).
Fertilisation occurs when the two female and male gametes fuse, causing a diploid cell ... Show more

Antibacterial Properties of Essential Oils Essay
Present study proves that, citrus fruit juices are great antimicrobial agents against certain

Planned Change Of Maternal Child Health
Planned Change in Maternal Child Health For many years organizations have faced challenges in
trying to promote interdisciplinary team collaboration and shared governance. Many have attempted
the trial and error method with the use of different nursing care delivery systems to meet the concerns
of our ever changing healthcare world. A shared governance model is one professional practice model
used to improve nursing practice through collaboration of nurses, patients, and other care providers.
This model encourages professionals to have a voice and represents an avenue where staff can get
involved in how nursing care is delivered, and furthermore promotes collaboration between
professionals. The Maternal Child Health (MCH) unit at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The professional nurse is an asset simply because much of what drives success within an organization
is the fruit of labor. In order for this continued performance to strive it is necessary that an
organization be designed to allow professionals to participate in the practice and help shape the
environment in which patient care occurs which ultimately brings us back to this notion of shared
governance.
The goal for SLMC is to have a unit based interdisciplinary design with the use of a Collaborative
Care Committee (CCC) as a vehicle in implementing shared governance, and increase
interdisciplinary team collaboration. According to Suby (2012), shared governance models create
decentralized systems in which decision making lies with bedside staff nurses whose role becomes the
source of innovative solutions; the managers role is one of facilitation and support to assist staff
nurses in changing practice to better care for the needs of the patient . This CCC will allow for staff
nurses and nursing management as well as providers to work together to promote autonomy,
accountability, leadership and empowerment, all of which are elements of shared governance and also
important factors to address when trying to improve quality of care.
Alignment with the Organization s Values
Having the Collaborative Care Committee at SLMC would positively impact the organization by
promoting working conditions where employees would be motivated and satisfied

Animal Euthanasia Research Paper
According to the The Humane Society of the United States roughly six million animals are handled by
shelters and clinics every year; though, only four million are adopted or claimed . The other two
million animals are left in these shelters until they die or are subjected to cruel practices of euthanasia.
There are simply too many animals and not enough people who are open to adoption. The animal
overpopulation crisis and euthanasia cruelty can be prevented by an approach called animal birth
control and adopting.
Euthanasia or mercy killing, is the act of putting an entity to a painless death. For animals this is an
injection of sodium phenobarbital; recognized as the most compassionate and painless method. The

Fascism In Wine And Wine Chapter Analysis
The novel of Bread and Wine
, written by Ignazio Silone, tells the tale of the Catholic
Church and its betrayal of Italian Catholics by embracing the fascists in Italy. The story is set in rural
Italy, where Pietro Spina, disguised as a priest, begins to question everything. He questions
Catholicism and the Communist Party after the Italian invasion of Ethiopia. Having to hide in rural
Italy disguised as a priest, Mr. Spina s story is a testament to the difficulty of living as an open minded
person in a country so repressive and in pursuit of communists and other political opponents. By 1935,
fascism was affecting every Italian living in Italy, even the peasants, and rural Italy became a place

Scope of Influence
Fascism had a large influence in Italy, as demonstrated by Mr. Spina s struggles living as a dissident in
hiding. The Italian government was extremely repressive of its opponents, but not only that. The
Catholic Church s support for the fascist government and some of its actions, such as the invasion of
Ethiopia, made it much more difficult for people like Mr. Spina to accept their faith. For rural Italians
and peasants, fascism affected their daily lives even though many of them did not care about politics
or the current situation abroad. Some were killed because of the fascist regime s brutality and its close
minded philosophy.
The most important thing that I got from this book was how fascism thrives by looking at the past and
exploiting it to push ideas for the future. When a fascist talks about how great the past was even
though it might have been at the expense of other people s rights it attracts a

Creativity And The Mad Genius
Creativity and the Mad Genius On July 2, 1961, Ernest Hemingway put a gun to his head. Seventy one
years earlier, on July 29, 1890, Vincent van Gogh shot himself in the abdomen while painting a wheat
field. Robin Williams hung himself on August 24, 2014, less than two centuries after Vincent van
Gogh. Along with Ludwig von Beethoven, who died of natural causes in 1827, four of the greatest
creative minds each suffered from bipolar disorder, depression, or epilepsy, usually suffering from
other physical ailments as well. Ernest Hemingway was the only one to seem to have a genetic
disposition towards mental illness. None of these men led similar lives. Van Gogh only saw one of his
paintings sold, while Beethoven was an acclaimed composer by the age of twenty nine. Hemingway
was friends with some of the greatest literary minds of the day, and Robin Williams was one of the
most successful comedians to date. The common link, besides their mental illnesses, is the idea that
each of these men were searching for something more within their respective arts. Four fields of fine
arts that require the constant creation of something new claimed the lives of four men who gave it all
they had, some losing, and some finding themselves along the way. Over the past sixty years, facts
about depression and the reality of it have come to light; however, there are still negative stigmas
concerning the mental illness and how people ought to endure through the pain. Despite these negative

This has seen EMAS move from transporting patients to the healthcare provider, into a service that
takes healthcare to the patient within the community (EMAS 2011).
Reconfiguration within the service is a further external factor. EMAS has been influenced by the
merger in 1999 and 2006 of six previous ambulance services into the East Midlands. Over recent
years, we have seen a shift from traditional command and control cultures of the former organisations,
to localised, empowered management teams working within the heart of their communities.
Becoming an NHS Foundation Trust is an external factor that is already having a major impact. An
NHS Foundation Trust is a new form of NHS organisation with greater freedom from Government
control so that it can better meet the needs of local communities. We are currently developing our
application. NHS Foundation Trust status will provide the freedom to invest surplus funds. We will be
able to plan for a longer period, 5 years plus so we can be more confident in how we will develop.

The African Freedom Movement
Caleb Renfroe
History of Civilization II
Ch.22 Question
Freedom is defined as the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or
restraint, and this idea of freedom is arguably one of the most sought after privileges throughout the
history of human existence. Wars have been fought over it, lives have been lost, song and poems and
works of literature have been written about it. Freedom is what defines our country here in America
today and it is the desire of the entirety of the human race. Although we may desire freedom and we
may take it for granted in today s society, it hasn t always been so easy to come by. The Indian
freedom movement and the African freedom movement both had their fair share of struggles before
achieving their desired state of freedom. Some of these struggles were common to both countries but
each also experienced difficulties unique to their own country as well.
One common thing between both India and Africa s freedom movements is their success in becoming
free nations under the rule of their own government rather than by a foreign countries. In India, the
movement began its success in 1885 with the establishment of the Indian National Congress (INC)
gained further traction under the leadership of Mohandas Gandhi and by 1947 colonial India became
independent. In Africa, the struggle against apartheid was one of success as well. The African freedom
movement gained began in 1912 with the African National Congress (ANC) and gained

The Lack of Insight in Schizophrenia
In my lifetime, I have spent months with my Grandmother, Florence Ernstead, who is a diagnosed
paranoid delusional schizophrenic. During this time I have realized that schizophrenics have difficulty
realizing the seriousness of their disorders. This inability to acknowledge a problem is known by
psychiatrists as lack of insight.
Many psychotic patients, especially schizophrenics, display a lack of insight into their disorder (Keefe
9). Lack of insight refers to an unawareness of having a disorder, unawareness of having psychotic
symptoms, and a refusal of treatment. Some scientists include other more specific aspects such as
patients views on cause of their disorder and/or symptoms, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Lack of insight is definitely correlated with frontal lobe abnormalities as shown by studies of
anosognosia and Alzheimer s disease. There is a possibility, then, that anosognosia and schizophrenia
have a common cause for lack of insight (Ghaemi 786). There are other neurological impairments in
schizophrenics. According to Husted, studies have shown that many patients with schizophrenia have
small hippocampi, enlarged ventricles, and possibly communication damage between the
hippocampus and cerebral cortex. Unfortunately, there is not enough evidence to for any of these
abnormalities including frontal lobe dysfunction to be necessary or sufficient for the diagnosis of
schizophrenia (37). Many scientists have found some association between frontal lobe dysfunction and
schizophrenia, but just as many have also found no association. Dickerson, Boronow, Ringel, and
Parente did comprehensive neuropsychological testing including the Vocabulary, Arithmetic, Digit

The typical gelato shops in Italy are characterized by its unique atmosphere imitating the European
lifestyle. Its homemade frozen desserts are the center of attraction not only for adults but for all
consumers of all ages. Gelato is indeed popular in Italy as it is enjoyed by all kinds of consumers (D

The Pros And Cons Of Video Game
Video games encompass the lives of teenagers and young adults around the world , connecting them to
new people to use teamwork to take down their enemy. Video games are great because it helps people
with teamwork and communication skills. Some of the most popular video games are first person
shooters. These games put you into a simulation of war where you see through the eyes of a soldier.
This makes it so you feel like you are in the game of war which can be very exhilarating and fun. Two
video games of this genre stand out in my mind, and they are the Battlefield Series and the Call of
Duty Series. They are both the top sellers in their style of games and if you ask a random teenager, he
will know exactly what you are talking about. The thing about these two though are the conflicting
sides of the people who buy them. These games both have millions of fans that argue for their game of
choice but some of them are wrong, and this is why. Being more specific about some Call of Duty
games we will talk about Black Ops 2 which is one of the best ones to come out. They both have the
same ideas of eliminating the other team to achieve ultimate victory, but they are different in the way
that Battlefield 1 is more of a simulation of real battle and Call of Duty is more of an arcade style
game that is fast paced and takes less skill. Battlefield 1 uses more real life things such as bullet drop
so people who are moving are harder to hit. The reason it is real life is because of the game engine,
called frostbite, uses weather to affect the players, sometimes fog will roll in and make it difficult to
see the enemies until they are right in front of you. The game engine also makes it so that if you shoot
a building with a tank, it will crumble and if you happen to be standing under it, the debris would kill
you. People may say that this makes the game harder or more annoying but it also makes the game
distinct and more of a thrill to play because you never know what s going to happen in a game. With
Black Ops 2 however, it is more of an arcade shooter and less of a simulation. What I mean by this is
that it is supposed to be very fast and easier to pick up the basics to be good at the game. This game

Methods Of Observation A Surface Measurements
II. Methods of observation
A. Surface Measurements
Rain gauge observations dating back to 1986 have been used to estimate precipitation rates. Figure 1
shows the distribution of rain gauges around the globe. Precipitation is measured in terms of the total
depth of a flat surface area, assuming no water vapor is lost by melting or evaporation. Precipitation
depth is measured in inches in the United States and in millimeters for research purposes and most
other countries. Frozen precipitation is melted and added to the total amount of rainfall (i.e. liquid
water equivalent). Precipitation measurements may utilize either touched (mechanical gauges)
instruments, such as standard rain gauges and tipping buckets, or untouched instruments (remote
sensing gauges). Untouched measurements may use disdrometer or remote sensing by radar.
A standard rain gauge consists of four components: a large outer container, a measuring tube, a
collector funnel, and a measuring stick. Disdrometers measure the drop size distribution and the
resulting velocity of falling hydrometeors, which in combination can be used to estimate the
precipitation rate. The size distribution can be used to measure radar reflectivity.
Surface measurements may contain several errors due to potential losses of evaporation/runoff and the
melting of frozen precipitation. Surface contamination may occur as wind, soil, and vegetation must
be accounted for. Other factors may include the diameter or height of the gauge

Computer Technology And The Military During The Cold War Era
Early computer art stemmed from an unlikely place and as the computer technology advanced,
minimized, and became affordable, the computer turned into the most important invention of the
modern age and has been implemented in almost every aspect of human life. Like video art, computer
art started small and progressed with the technology and now is a tool used for many digital mediums.
The origin of the computer resides with the military. The computer itself was created by the military
during the Cold War era, when we were in a technological race with Russia. This race was the fuel for
massive advancements in technology especially in the sector of computer intelligence. The first
Computer s were physically large enough to fill an entire room. They were used to manage large
quantities of data in textual and numerical form. The government backed certain research facilities in
the advancement of the computer and some investigated and experimented in computer technology
with art and music. 1
Prior to the digital computer, some artists were using manual devices like the oscilloscope, which
displayed the waves of an electric signal. Artists like Ben Laposky would record the waves moving by
photographing them with long exposure. Because the waves were constantly moving the photographs
would show the fluid shape of the wave and its motion.2 Moving forward to the 1960 s, Bell
Laboratories, one of the research facilities funded by the government for computer intelligence

All Soul s Day Myths
According to a Roman Catholic tradition, a pilgrim returning from the Holy Land took refuge on a
rocky island during a storm. There he met a hermit, who told him that among the cliffs was an opening
to the infernal regions, through which flames ascended, and where groans of the tormented were
distinctly audible. The pilgrim told Odilo, who was the head of the monks in a town in eastern France,
who appointed the day following (November 2) to be set apart for the benefit of those souls in
purgatory ( ). What has yet to be investigated is what today s symbols of All Soul s Day mean to those
who celebrate it. To accomplish this, I analyze the myths that surrounded All Soul s Day, and I focus
on how the symbols that come out of these myths help ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there are some myths that surround death itself. In the Netherlands and in Mexico it is
believed that the souls of the children return to their families on November first, while November
second is set aside for the departed adults. When the souls return, they come to be with their living
relatives. However, they do not come back to scare or haunt people like many people believe
(Quartier, 2010). If we take a look at the myth deeper we realize that it is a deliverance myth, because
the souls are being reunited with their families. In this context if we look at Joseph Campbell s
Functions of Myth we can relate this myth to the function that says it is supposed to evoke in the
individual a sense of being grateful, affirmative awe before the monstrous mystery that is existence ( ).
The sense of being grateful comes from the fact that the families are able to be with their loved ones
again. The second myth about death comes from England, Scotland and Wales. The souls of loved
ones come to search for warmth and affection. The living helped these souls find what they were
looking for, by setting up bonfires to lead the way. Along with the bonfires there were traditions
including decorating graves, special church service, and all night vigils. When the souls returned it
was believed at this time human beings were able to truly see how the world is (Beckman, 2016). This
myth could be seen as deliverance, because it is allowing the souls to come back to their families
along with that the living people are able to see how the world really is. Then if we look at Joseph
Campbell s Functions of Myth we could argue that the third function about sociological order about
what is right and what is wrong relates to this myth, because the ultimate goal of the souls returning is
to allow the people to see what the world is really

Ocean Oil Spill Research Paper
Ocean oil spills greatly impact the world today because oil is harmful to ocean life, mammals, and
even humans. Since oil remains in the ocean for a considerably long time, scientists cannot determine
how greatly the oil has really impacted the world today (Carey). However, It is important to know
how ocean oil spills are caused, who and what they affect, and how to prevent and control them with

The causes of ocean oil spills originate from hurricanes, people s mistakes, equipment malfunctioning,
and terrorist reactions. When an oil spill occurs, it often occurs in tankers, refineries, or pipelines that
are being shipped to another facility (Background on Oil Spills). After the oil is spilled onto the salt
water, it disperses at a fast rate, which makes oil slick. The oil continues to spread, causing it to
weaken and it resembles a rainbow (Background on Oil Spills). When an oil spill occurs on the
uppermost layer of water, it evaporates, is degraded by sunlight, gets consumed by microbes, or
washes up on beaches (Begley).
The oil spill in 2010, the second highest oil spill in history, took place because of an eruption at an oil
drilling site, which caused the oil to spill into the Gulf of Mexico (Abdul). About 666,400 tones of oil
spilled harming birds, seat turtles, mammals, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

birds and sea otters because it stops their feathers or hairs from being able to keep the cold air out, so
they freeze. This problem causes the mammals to struggle to eat and move around. Also, when birds
try to clean their feathers, they take in that oil that is in the water, sometimes causing pneumonia or
organ damage

Eating Disorders And Eating Disorder
An eating disorder is about anxiety and control and healing from trauma and food and weight are just
the tools of destruction (Floyd, Mimms, Yelding, 2008). An eating disorder is defined as a severe
disturbance in eating behavior. An eating disorder, as defined by our text book for class, is
psychological disturbances that lead to certain physiological changes and serious health
complications. The three most common and most easily identifiable forms of eating disorders include
anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. While most people who have eating
disorders tend to be women from white middle class upper class families, eating disorders span social
class, gender, race, and ethnic backgrounds (Floyd, Mimms, Yelding, Eating Disorders, 2008). It is
believed that most eating disorders develop as a way to handle stress. People with eating disorders
tend to have low self esteem, feelings of helplessness, depression, and perfectionism. According to the
National Institute of Mental Health, more than 90 percent of people with eating disorders are
adolescent girls and young women and the death rate for eating disorders is about one in ten people.
Causes of eating disorders can include genetic, biological, social, psychological, and environmental
factors (Schiff, 2016). If a person has a first degree relative with anorexia, that person is ten times
more likely to develop anorexia than a person who does not have a first degree relative with

Usarecs Recruitment Centers
USARECs tactical organizations recruiting centers are responsible for prospecting and recruiting
professional individuals that will volunteer for a job serving as a Soldier. Their main effort involves
identifying and creating the Soldier of 2025 that will fight to win any complex operating environment.
Daily NCOs engage local communities to find individuals to enlist despite the changing United States
(US) society where 7 out of 10 prospects do not qualify to enlist into the Army. NCOs at this tactical
level have a tremendous challenge in their day to day operations. They have to accomplish daily
operations by overcoming many factors and challenges. These challenges include economic
conditions, persistent and unstable Middle East, China, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An average center has about six recruiters. This would mean that each recruiter would be responsible
for one appointment each day. It may seem easier to make one appointment each day, but other daily
recruiting tasks happen as well. Some recruiting centers are remote and driving applicants to the
Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) can take a full day resulting in loss of time to make the
daily appointment requirement. Arriving back at the center late and with all the other recruiters at
home, a recruiter might choose to log a fake or made up appointment in order to go home. Other daily
activities that consume Soldiers time are driving to colleges and high schools, training future Soldiers
on basic training tasking, going to gather source documents so applicants can enlist birth certificates,
medical and law documents. Time is never on a recruiter s side. It always seems that there is never
enough time in the day. Recruiters do not always have control of the day by day plan that they created
to be successful in achieving the appointments required from their leaders. They have daily
distractions that disrupt their plan constantly and in most cases, it ends up being not their fault. They
plan, assess, and execute their plan. During the execution of the plan is when it falls apart. Confirmed
appointments that show up late or no show, start the

Toxicity in the Workplace
The Toxic Workplace Organizational Behaviour Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine the
inter relationship of incivility and toxicity, how bullies are able to become toxic managers, and how
they are allowed to develop in a toxic organization. We also analyze the development of organizational
pain and how toxin handlers deal it with. Finally, we hope to assess if there is any validity to claims
that Generation Z is responsible for the recent prevalence of workplace toxicity. What is a toxic
workplace? Overview of Toxicity: Violence, aggression, bullying, tyranny, harassment, deviance, and
injustice ... (Cortina 2001), the magnificent seven anti socialites comprising Workplace Toxicity. A

Without the use of a Toxin Handler to ameliorate the emotional pain, workplace toxicity affects the
bottom line of an organization through lost productivity from distraction, debilitating health issues,
and attrition (Scholten). Workplace Incivility: I don t have time to be nice. Unlike aggressive, violent,
and abusive workplaces, where the intent to cause harm is apparent, incivility takes on more
ambiguous forms, where the perceptions of the instigator, target, and observer(s), must factor together
to determine intent (Andersson, 1999). General incivility, as a primary precursor to a toxic workplace,
can be described as rude behavior, or a disregard for others within the organization, stemming from a
lack of recognition, or ignorance, of co workers emotions and values, often taking form in deviance as
a protest of dissatisfaction (Kelloway, 2010), and leads to a downward spiral of malcontent. Pearson
classifies Incivility as Low intensity deviant behavior with ambiguous intent to harm stemming from
Anti social behavior in violation of workplace norms for mutual respect .Despite the intent, or lack
thereof, the effects of incivility in the workplace are strictly damaging, and as such, must be addressed
before spiraling out of control. Examples of workplace incivility include ignoring advice and belittling
ideas, lack of active listening, taking credit for shared work and public criticism or insults (Johnson,
2001). Even negative

Native Language And Indigenous Language
Language is one of many components that identify a group of people to their culture. Unfortunately,
there are quite a few obstacles that challenge indigenous people learning their native language. The
loss of a language distances groups farther from their native roots, which is exactly opposite of the
efforts being made in Canada. Learning and practicing an indigenous language fulfills one s role as an
engaged citizen and allows for engagement within a culture. The McGill Tribune published Jenny
Shen s article discussing these common issues regarding revitalizing indigenous languages in Canada.
Shen interviews Chelsea Vowel, a woman of Métis descent, who has committed herself to indigenous
language education. Vowel states, The language is what holds our culture together like glue. There is
no separation in my mind. She also points out that it has become harder for people of indigenous
descent to learn their language for a number of reasons. Problems that arise consist of not being
completely engaged in the native language, deciphering between dialects, and funding issues. The loss
of indigenous languages in Canada is a contemporary issue of great concern because many indigenous
and nonindigenous people realize the extent of culture loss once a language has dissipated. Shen also
gathered information from Anna Daigneult, the Latin America project coordinator and development
officer at Living Tongues Institute for Endangered Languages. This institute is an organization

Book Review Essay
Achieving success, whether it is in a personal, social, or professional setting, is often the end goal of
most human efforts. Most of the time, acquiring that success requires hard work, perseverance, and
dedication. Yet it is often difficult to maintain the continual motivation needed to overcome the
frequent obstacles and setbacks that litter the road to success. C.P Neck s and C. Manz s book,
Mastering Self Leadership: Empowering Yourself for Personal Excellence, explores strategies and
tools to strengthen the key attribute that provides sustenance for an individual s motivation, self
leadership. The tools encompass ideas such as world altering strategies, natural reward system, and
positive thinking. While each is a different, unique ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the author s shifted focus to psychologically driven concepts, such as mental and thought patterns,
the strategies shifted from creating a positive environment to overcoming obstacles. One of the first
steps in overcoming an obstacle was to visualize the achievement, to create an imagined experience .
Envisioning success bolsters a person s morale and provides a renewed vigor with which to attack the
obstacle.
Although the text focused on self leadership, the authors did discuss how self leadership is directly
tied into the success of teams. The same strategies, which improve self leadership in oneself, can be
extrapolated for a team: removal of negative cues, goal setting, strong team beliefs and team mental
imagery are a few examples. However, in order to ensure the success of the team, there must be a
balance of me and we , meaning that while individualistic goals must be set and followed, they must
coincide with team goals and neither should outweigh the other. The importance of fitness to self
image and self leadership was the penultimate strategy discussed in the text. Studies illustrated the
benefits of fitness resulting in improved job performance and professional satisfaction. Lastly, the text
discussed the importance of life factors such as happiness, emotional satisfaction, and social
responsibility to self leadership. Different personality types approach

Culture Is A Way Of Life Shared By People
Culture is a way of life shared by people in a society. Culture is exceptional, although it may have
other things in common with other cultures. According to American Culture, Culture encompasses
religion, food, what we wear, how we wear it, our language, marriage, music, what we believe is right
or wrong, how we sit at the table, how we greet visitors, how we behave with loved ones, and a
million other things, said Cristina De Rossi, an anthropologist at Barnet and Southgate College in
London. The United States is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. According to
People Culture, within its vast area, Nigeria has over 250 different ethnic groups, all with their own
languages and heritage. Cultures are made and followed according to the society or family one comes
from or was born in.
According to USA Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette, Americans are extremely informal,
friendly, and call most people by their first name. Most people who come to the United States may
already know a few things about the people through TV. Although this is of course a skewed reality
some of the stereotypes are true, especially American friendliness and informality. People tend to not
wait to be introduced, will begin to speak with strangers as they stand in a queue, sit next to each other
at an event, etc. Americans are very casual in greeting. A handshake, a smile, and a hello are all that is
needed, which I really agree with but in Nigeria, where I came

Persuasive Speech About Breakfast
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Who here didn t have their breakfast this morning? I bet most
of you did. I used to be one of those too until last month when I did a research on Biology and by
chance, came across a fact about how important breakfast is. I believe that as soon as you heard the
topic, you will assume that I am going to give you a life lesson as your parents do. Breakfast is the
most essential meal is spoken by every mother, yet the reasons why we should eat breakfast have
never been clarified more clearly and seriously. The following speech will highlight that breakfast is
required for three main reasons; first, it helps improve our grades; second, it controls our balance diet;
and more importantly; it can promote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To correct all misunderstandings, breakfast indeed helps us control healthy diets and even lose weight.
How? Technically, skipping breakfast means your sugar level in blood drops even lower than the
required standard. As a result, it will trigger your hunger and you will have less energy, which means
that by lunch time you would be starving to death, and feel like you can eat a whole cow. As a
consequence, you would end up overeating. What s about if we just ensure that we do not over
consume for the rest of the day? Admittedly, for that case, you might lose some weight, but according
to www. prevention.com, a reward of longterm skipping breakfast is to gain dangerous belly fat in
return. For girls, it is believed that not having a regular eating habit can critically contribute to a risk
of menstrual cycle irregularity. In order not to be like this, you should eat breakfast regularly to make
your body feel nourished and

Factors That Can Be Protective Against Ptsd
What is meant by the term resilience with regard to response to stressful events? One resilience factor
is hardiness , discuss how this factor can be protective against PTSD.
Stress is a widely studied phenomenon, as stress is an experience that every individual go through in
their everyday lives. According to Baum (1990), stress can be defined as a negative emotional
experience accompanied by predicable biochemical, physiological and behavioural changes that are
directed towards adaption either by manipulating the situation to alter the stressor or by
accommodating its effects. Everybody is affected by stressful events in different ways, some are better
at coping than others, this is because everyone is individually different. This is where resilience to
stressful events comes into place. Resilience helps to explain the ability to adapt in the face of tragedy,
hardship, trauma, adversity and a continuation of significant life stressors. Bonanno (2002).There are
many factors that influence people s resilience to these life events, for example personality traits,
optimism, lows of control, hardiness and social support. In this essay there will be a focus on
hardiness as it is a main factor for overcoming mental illness. Especially for PTSD which is heavily
influenced by stressful life experiences.
Stress has a big impact on people s mental and physical health, the way in which people cope with
stress can protect them from illness. Throughout life, people are faced

The Regulation And Taxation Of Marijuana Act
November,8, 2016 the ballots were dispersed and votes were submitted. Question four on the ballot
was known as the The Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act. The numbers came in and beginning
December 15, 2016 in Massachusetts, individuals above the age of twenty one will now be able to
legally purchase, possess, cultivate, and use marijuana, with limitations on quantity, for recreational
and medicinal use under the statutes of the state laws. While the prohibition of marijuana in
Massachusetts has ended, many new movements must now begin to maintain, regulate, and pursue a
positive outcome. With other states that have already passed such laws, such as Colorado,
Massachusetts will begin to piggyback off their models. Developing a system that will hopefully come
to fruition of all the possibilities and benefits this new law has promised. One of the greatest appeals
of this law was the revenue that would be brought in from the sales of products of marijuana. Not only
will the Commonwealth be able to implement an excise tax of 3.75%, there will also be an optional
local sales tax of up to two percent of the total sales price by the retailer that will be directly applied to
the city or town in which it was implemented. All revenue including state taxes, application and
licensing fees, and civil fines will be placed in a Marijuana Regulation Fund and distributed for the
usage of administrative fees, enforcement officials, and regulation staffing. Administrative fees will

  • 3. Macro Periodization After reading the Macro Periodization paper, it surprises me how much planning and precision go into every aspect of training a athlete at Concordia. Reading the goals of the periodization really stood out to me, because these goals are what is going to lay out the overall theme of an athlete s training routine. Whether it s decreasing the risk of injury, or improving the many components that improve an athlete s performance the goals set for the training of Concordia athletes is amazingly well organized and executed. What I took from the Program Design Section of the paper, is that Concordia macro periodization is not focused on training our athletes like bodybuilders, but instead we design out programs in order to improve the performance of Concordia s athletes. ... After reading this portion of the paper, many parts of the macrocycle look very familiar to me, as I have already gone through them. What I took out of this that I felt was the most surprising aspect of the macrocycle, was how well thought out, and how far ahead the preparation is for the training of the university s athletes. The thing that I took out of this paper that I will try to take with me the rest of my athletic career, is that there is a lot of preparation and effort that goes into my training here, and these training programs are made for my benefit, so I should not waste the strength coach s time by not giving it my all in the weight room, or not showing up at all. I will continue to follow the macrocycle for the rest of my career here at Corcyra, and hopefully it will take me to new heights in my athletic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Growth Of Robots In The Robot Invasion By Charlie Gillis In the article, The Robot Invasion by Charlie Gillis, the author discusses how robots have grown from the early 1990 s, to the present, and what is expected in the future. He discusses how the beginning of robotics went from simple robots to more complex robots. For example, Andrew Vardy, a computer science professor, recently created toy sized robots that could see and was able to sort pucks by color (Gillie, 2012, p. 478). The biggest challenge faced with the growth of robots is the capability to respond to changes in the surroundings. However, there is hope for robots evolving because James McLurkin, a professor from Rice University, programmed robots smaller than a hamburger with simple combinations of tasks like following the leader, escaping deadlocks, and even cleaning floors of bread crumbs (p.479) Since 2005, a Massachusetts based company Kiva Systems, has been selling automated warehouse systems using hundreds of robots that are able to get merchandise from storage to shipping (p. 479). The warehouse system can triple distribution productivity. Humanoid robots are being used by the military field, due to their high market price. Baxter, is the first humanoid industrial use robot available for approximately $22,000.00. Many people are skeptical about the growth in technology, when it comes to robots, because they fear they could replace jobs that humans perform. Thomas Frey, an American Futurist, doesn t look at robots taking over human jobs. He sees advancements for humans to adapt to the future of robots, as robot designers, engineers, and dispatchers. He feels humans and robots can grow together. The future with robots can be helpful for humans but can also be a scary situation for people to handle. The article was persuasive to me because of the many strengths, Charlie Gillis, suggested in the article The Robot Invasion is evidence that robots have grown through the years and will continue to grow with the future. For example, we are going from small toy sized robots that can see, to human like droid robots capable of performing tasks that are difficult for humans to do. Recently, a California based company announced it would spend $3.1 million to develop farm robots capable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That is because md5sum command offers a feature that allows the user to compute a checksum for multiple files with same type or extension. • 6. How Dumas Made Assumptions On American Culture 5. Throughout the story Dumas made assumptions on Americans and her own family as well. Dumas collected evidence to prove majority of the things she believed by changing her name for awhile in her life. When Dumas name became Julie she realized that more people were drawn to her and that she had more friends too. When the Iranian Revolution came she realized that many kids were only her friend because they thought she was American due to her name and having no accent. • 7. Benefits Of A Executive Compensation Introduction Over a long period of time, many shareholders in various companies have been complaining about the high executive compensation in the companies. They believe that such executives are draining the resources of such companies at the expense of the shareholders. Despite the non binding votes from the shareholders against high levels of executive pay, many companies have given a deaf ear to them. Reduction of executive compensation has been a major challenge to many companies. There are various impediments in effecting a reduction in executive compensation. Hiring and retaining top caliber executives. In the modern cut throat competition business world, companies are looking for the best executives, who can lead the company into success. To achieve such an objective, companies have to offer higher executive compensation. In addition, so as to retain the best executives who are still working for the company, there is need to maintain a higher level of executive pay, otherwise such top talent will be lured away by other companies. This may have the adverse effects of leading the company into poor performance, and consequently, failure. Therefore, it is paramount that executive compensation is maintained at its best for the overall good of the company ((Hartzell Starks, 2003). Reinforcement of succession planning process. A friend of my friend s family, a few years older than us, brought his surfboard with him and asked us if we would want to try surfing out before dinner gets there. We were both athletic kids and never tried surfing before, being that we were from Ohio, so we jumped at the opportunity to try it. I was first to try riding a wave, and I was able to stand up and successfully ride it all the way in to shore. My friend tried after and he was also successful his first attempt. This continued as we rode 9 10 more waves in, when we got bored we both said we were going to ride one more wave in, then be done. Little did I know my life changing moment was approaching. • 9. Examples of Jung’s Analytical Archetype Theory in the Film... Martin Scorsese directed the movie Shutter Island, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, that came out on February 19, 2010. The movie portrays many different examples of critical theory. Having watched the movie before my analysis, when I heard of Jung s Analytical Archetype theory I linked it with this movie almost immediately. Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist, developed the idea that all archetypes are universal images that come from the collective unconscious and are almost instinctive to us all. Jung s critical theory examines the unique personal collective unconscious of the characters in the film. These can vary anywhere from forgotten memories to traumas, keeping all religious, spiritual, and mythological symbols and experiences intact. It is from this point of view that it becomes easier to explain all the similarities between stories. There are three factors when you look at archetypes, which are characters, situations, and symbols. Plot Overview Shutter Island is set in the 50 s and Edward Daniels, Teddy, is the protagonist we first encounter in the beginning of the movie. He s portrayed as a US Marshall who s sent to Shutter Island where there s a psychiatric facility, Ashecliffe Hospital to investigate the disappearance of a female patient with his new partner Chuck Aule. Teddy tells Chuck that he wanted to get this case because the man who killed his wife in a fire, Andrew Laeddis, was also on the island and went missing months ago. As they continue their ... • 12. Death and Time in Slaughterhouse-Five Death and Time in Slaughterhouse Five We all wish we could travel through time, going back to correct our stupid mistakes or zooming ahead to see the future. In Kurt Vonnegut s novel Slaughterhouse Five, however, time travel does not seem so helpful. Billy Pilgrim, Vonnegut s main character, has come unstuck in time. He bounces back and forth between his past, present, and future lives in a roller coaster time trip that proves both senseless and numbing. Examining Billy s time traveling, his life on Tralfamadore, and the novel s schizophrenic structure shows that time travel is actually a metaphor for our human tendency to avoid facing the unpleasant reality of death. Because he cannot control time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are plenty of other moments of time, they reason, when that person is alive. Therefore, death can be overlooked as a chronological inconvenience. This philosophy of life and death they instill in Billy himself, speaking to him in a disembodied voice which floats down into the zoo cage which serves as his home: We spend eternity looking at pleasant moments like today at the zoo. Isn t this a nice moment? Yes. [Billy answered] That s the one thing Earthlings might learn to do, if they tried hard enough: Ignore the awful times, and concentrate on the good ones. (117) But ignoring death and its suffering is exactly what Billy should not be doing, Vonnegut suggests. To do so makes him, like the Tralfamadorians, alien and inhuman. He has no sense of his own mortality, an awareness he needs in order to understand that, as Stephen Marten has observed, life is valuable not because it is infinite but because it is so scarce (11). Curiously, Vonnegut uses the Tralfamadorian idea that books, like life, should have no beginning, no middle, no end, no suspense, no moral, no causes, no effects (88). Evaluation Of A Clinical Supervision Project After completing my clinical supervision project, I can reflect on multiple things I have learned about myself as a supervisor, including my approach to clinical supervision, my conference skills, and my strengths and weaknesses. I now recognize more than ever that effective supervisors must consistently self assess their practice and make adjustments as necessary for continuous improvement, just as effective teachers do. Throughout the clinical supervision process, it became apparent that I have strengths and weaknesses that relate to each step of the process. My most notable strengths were related to my conference skills. For example, I am comfortable working with people, and believe I make others feel comfortable working with me. I listen well, and genuinely want to help teachers to improve, which I believe comes across in my communication with teachers. Working with teachers collaboratively seems to yield effective results, and I was able to develop strong ideas for each teacher, both in terms of goals for their observations, and their action plans moving forward after their post conferences. During the observation portion of the project, I believe I showed some strength in collecting data about each teacher and their classes. Old Spice, Become A Man Courtney Van Houweling Paula Fender 1st Year Comp November 10th, 2016 Old Spice, Become a Man Most of us have probably seen the Old Spice commercials with the confident and fast talking Isaiah Mustafa, AKA The Old Spice Man. These commercials first began in early 2010 and have since become a whole series of some of the most popular commercials on television and the internet. But what is it about these ads that make them so appealing? To answer this question, this paper will focus on the commercial that started it all: The Man Your Man Could Smell Like. Although this ad does surprisingly little to realistically describe the product it is advertising, its clever and difficult to notice of all three first parts of appeal convinced many people to switch to Old Spice, and, at the same time helped Old Spice reach a close connection with its target audience, this way embedding itself into our popular culture. Before getting into any analysis, I would like to give brief summary of how the ad goes forward. Mustafa, in a bathroom wearing nothing but a towel, starts a speech which describes how anything is possible when a man uses Old Spice body wash. In one continuous take, Mustafa moves from the bathroom to a sailboat, to a sandy beach, and lastly, to horseback riding. Some believe that famous artists are someone people that are abnormal or odd in their way of thinking or actions. When asked what comes into someone s mind when asked about famous artists may also be how they are not famous until death. Along with these beliefs, people believe that artists have a very active sex life. Through media, these stereotypes are true but in all actuality, they are not correct. When thinking about famous artists, many people believe that they all suffer from some type of mental illness. Van Gogh is an example of the stereotype. Seventy days after Vincent moves to Auvers sur Oise and under the care of Dr. Gachet, he dies from a self inflicted gunshot wound. Many know the artist to be quite ill mentally along with the fact of Van Gogh cutting his own ear off. The man is known to have had many doctors by his side, checking ... • 17. The Mexica Empire against Hernan Cortes Essay The Totonacs joined forces with Cortes against the emperor and his allies. Other neighboring towns that resented the deplorable Aztec hegemony stopped paying tribute as a gesture of support for the Spanish. As a response, those in power at Tenochtitlán sent forces to Cempoala to punish the defiance but the Spanish with newly acquired allies defeated the advancing army (Castillo). It was here at Cempoala that the Spanish would meet the Tlaxcalans for the very first time, prompting a standoff between the two. Openly opposing the Mexica empire, the Tlaxcalans were a force to be reckoned with since they had twice prevented Aztec domination (Portilla) and were suspicious of the Spanish at first especially when the conquistadors accepted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The conquistadors defeated the warriors of the Mexica empire due to a number of reasons that not only pertain to the weapons they possessed. Interestingly enough, all the steel and horses contributed to the physical aspect of war but on a psycho social level, it was the Aztecs varying conception of warfare that led to Spanish victory. Conquistadors were taught to fight to the death and move on to the next one while the Aztecs would focus a large amount of energy to capturing and taking prisoners (Brandt). Whether it was for personal reasons or the desire for human sacrifice, this concept impeded their chances of winning battles. Isolation can be noted as a small factor as well since the Aztecs kept their empire confined to the continent and never branched out to discover new technology. The Spanish on the other hand had a very strong background in exploration with ties to naval and advanced military tactics. These men were cogs in a powerful war machine that was the reason Charles V had so much land and power. With exploration comes new discovery such as new weapons and advancements in warfare. In every way possible, Spanish military dominance consisting of steel, cavalry, and gunpowder was underlying reason the natives never stood a chance. Following on from the success of the DisneyLand theme park in Anaheim, plans to build a European version first started around 1975, nine years after Walt Disney died. Initially Britain, Italy, Spain and France were all considered as possible locations, though Britain and Italy were quickly dropped from the list of potential sites because they both lacked a suitably large expanse of flat land. The most likely site was thought to be in the Alicante area of Spain, which had a similar climate to that in Florida for a large part of the year, however the area was also beset by the notorious Mistral winds. Everything came to a head during March 1994 when Team Disney offered the banks an ultimatum, that Disney would provide sufficient capital investment for the park to continue to operate until the end of the month, but unless the banks agreed to restructure the $1bn debt that the park s construction and operation had run up, the Walt Disney company would close the park, and walk away from the whole European venture, leaving the banks with a bankrupt theme park and a massive expanse of virtually worthless real estate. EuroDisney then forced the bank s hand by calling the annual stock holder meeting for March 15th. • 20. Mitosis Vs Meiosis Research Paper Mitosis and meiosis are both types of cell divisions that have various similarities and differences. They comparably associate with cytokinesis and form daughter cells however, meiosis occurs in primordial diploid cells in animals, plants and fungi, whilst mitosis takes place in somatic cells in every organism (Vidyasagar. A, 2015). Meiosis differs from mitosis as it undergoes a process known as DNA recombination, during which genetic material interchange with chromosomes or various regions of the same chromosome. DNA recombination is a common source of genetic variation. Mitosis is the continuous process by which the body creates new cells to repair damaged or aging membranes, fibers and tissues (Clare O Connor, 2008). The end result of mitosis are two genetically identical diploid daughter cells, which develop from the single parent cell dividing. Conversely, the meiosis cell divides into four haploid gametes each possessing half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell (Alberts. B, 2010). In order for this continued performance to strive it is necessary that an organization be designed to allow professionals to participate in the practice and help shape the environment in which patient care occurs which ultimately brings us back to this notion of shared governance. The goal for SLMC is to have a unit based interdisciplinary design with the use of a Collaborative Care Committee (CCC) as a vehicle in implementing shared governance, and increase interdisciplinary team collaboration. This CCC will allow for staff nurses and nursing management as well as providers to work together to promote autonomy, accountability, leadership and empowerment, all of which are elements of shared governance and also important factors to address when trying to improve quality of care. Seventy one years earlier, on July 29, 1890, Vincent van Gogh shot himself in the abdomen while painting a wheat field. Robin Williams hung himself on August 24, 2014, less than two centuries after Vincent van Gogh. Along with Ludwig von Beethoven, who died of natural causes in 1827, four of the greatest creative minds each suffered from bipolar disorder, depression, or epilepsy, usually suffering from other physical ailments as well. Ernest Hemingway was the only one to seem to have a genetic disposition towards mental illness. None of these men led similar lives. Van Gogh only saw one of his paintings sold, while Beethoven was an acclaimed composer by the age of twenty nine. Hemingway was friends with some of the greatest literary minds of the day, and Robin Williams was one of the most successful comedians to date. The African Freedom Movement Caleb Renfroe History of Civilization II Ch.22 Question Freedom is defined as the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint, and this idea of freedom is arguably one of the most sought after privileges throughout the history of human existence. Wars have been fought over it, lives have been lost, song and poems and works of literature have been written about it. Freedom is what defines our country here in America today and it is the desire of the entirety of the human race. Although we may desire freedom and we may take it for granted in today s society, it hasn t always been so easy to come by. The Indian freedom movement and the African freedom movement both had their fair share of struggles before achieving their desired state of freedom. Some of these struggles were common to both countries but each also experienced difficulties unique to their own country as well. One common thing between both India and Africa s freedom movements is their success in becoming free nations under the rule of their own government rather than by a foreign countries. In India, the movement began its success in 1885 with the establishment of the Indian National Congress (INC) gained further traction under the leadership of Mohandas Gandhi and by 1947 colonial India became independent. Video games are great because it helps people with teamwork and communication skills. Some of the most popular video games are first person shooters. These games put you into a simulation of war where you see through the eyes of a soldier. This makes it so you feel like you are in the game of war which can be very exhilarating and fun. Two video games of this genre stand out in my mind, and they are the Battlefield Series and the Call of Duty Series. They are both the top sellers in their style of games and if you ask a random teenager, he will know exactly what you are talking about. The thing about these two though are the conflicting sides of the people who buy them. These games both have millions of fans that argue for their game of choice but some of them are wrong, and this is why. Being more specific about some Call of Duty games we will talk about Black Ops 2 which is one of the best ones to come out. They both have the same ideas of eliminating the other team to achieve ultimate victory, but they are different in the way that Battlefield 1 is more of a simulation of real battle and Call of Duty is more of an arcade style game that is fast paced and takes less skill. Battlefield 1 uses more real life things such as bullet drop so people who are moving are harder to hit. The reason it is real life is because of the game engine, called frostbite, uses weather to affect the players, sometimes fog will roll in and make it difficult to see the enemies until they are right in front of you. The game engine also makes it so that if you shoot a building with a tank, it will crumble and if you happen to be standing under it, the debris would kill you. People may say that this makes the game harder or more annoying but it also makes the game distinct and more of a thrill to play because you never know what s going to happen in a game. With Black Ops 2 however, it is more of an arcade shooter and less of a simulation. What I mean by this is that it is supposed to be very fast and easier to pick up the basics to be good at the game. • 37. Methods Of Observation A Surface Measurements II. Methods of observation A. Surface Measurements Rain gauge observations dating back to 1986 have been used to estimate precipitation rates. Figure 1 shows the distribution of rain gauges around the globe. Precipitation is measured in terms of the total depth of a flat surface area, assuming no water vapor is lost by melting or evaporation. Precipitation depth is measured in inches in the United States and in millimeters for research purposes and most other countries. Frozen precipitation is melted and added to the total amount of rainfall (i.e. liquid water equivalent). Precipitation measurements may utilize either touched (mechanical gauges) instruments, such as standard rain gauges and tipping buckets, or untouched instruments (remote sensing gauges). Untouched measurements may use disdrometer or remote sensing by radar. A standard rain gauge consists of four components: a large outer container, a measuring tube, a collector funnel, and a measuring stick. Disdrometers measure the drop size distribution and the resulting velocity of falling hydrometeors, which in combination can be used to estimate the precipitation rate. The size distribution can be used to measure radar reflectivity. Surface measurements may contain several errors due to potential losses of evaporation/runoff and the melting of frozen precipitation. Surface contamination may occur as wind, soil, and vegetation must be accounted for. Other factors may include the diameter or height of the gauge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Computer Technology And The Military During The Cold War Era Early computer art stemmed from an unlikely place and as the computer technology advanced, minimized, and became affordable, the computer turned into the most important invention of the modern age and has been implemented in almost every aspect of human life. Like video art, computer art started small and progressed with the technology and now is a tool used for many digital mediums. The origin of the computer resides with the military. The computer itself was created by the military during the Cold War era, when we were in a technological race with Russia. This race was the fuel for massive advancements in technology especially in the sector of computer intelligence. The first Computer s were physically large enough to fill an entire room. They were used to manage large quantities of data in textual and numerical form. The government backed certain research facilities in the advancement of the computer and some investigated and experimented in computer technology with art and music. 1 Prior to the digital computer, some artists were using manual devices like the oscilloscope, which displayed the waves of an electric signal. Artists like Ben Laposky would record the waves moving by photographing them with long exposure. Because the waves were constantly moving the photographs would show the fluid shape of the wave and its motion.2 Moving forward to the 1960 s, Bell Laboratories, one of the research facilities funded by the government for computer intelligence research, ... • 39. All Soul s Day Myths According to a Roman Catholic tradition, a pilgrim returning from the Holy Land took refuge on a rocky island during a storm. There he met a hermit, who told him that among the cliffs was an opening to the infernal regions, through which flames ascended, and where groans of the tormented were distinctly audible. The pilgrim told Odilo, who was the head of the monks in a town in eastern France, who appointed the day following (November 2) to be set apart for the benefit of those souls in purgatory ( ). What has yet to be investigated is what today s symbols of All Soul s Day mean to those who celebrate it. To accomplish this, I analyze the myths that surrounded All Soul s Day, and I focus on how the symbols that come out of these myths help ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, there are some myths that surround death itself. In the Netherlands and in Mexico it is believed that the souls of the children return to their families on November first, while November second is set aside for the departed adults. When the souls return, they come to be with their living relatives. However, they do not come back to scare or haunt people like many people believe (Quartier, 2010). If we take a look at the myth deeper we realize that it is a deliverance myth, because the souls are being reunited with their families. In this context if we look at Joseph Campbell s Functions of Myth we can relate this myth to the function that says it is supposed to evoke in the individual a sense of being grateful, affirmative awe before the monstrous mystery that is existence ( ). The sense of being grateful comes from the fact that the families are able to be with their loved ones again. The second myth about death comes from England, Scotland and Wales. The souls of loved ones come to search for warmth and affection. The living helped these souls find what they were looking for, by setting up bonfires to lead the way. Along with the bonfires there were traditions including decorating graves, special church service, and all night vigils. When the souls returned it was believed at this time human beings were able to truly see how the world is (Beckman, 2016). This myth could be seen as deliverance, because it is allowing the souls to come back to their families along with that the living people are able to see how the world really is. Then if we look at Joseph Campbell s Functions of Myth we could argue that the third function about sociological order about what is right and what is wrong relates to this myth, because the ultimate goal of the souls returning is to allow the people to see what the world is really ... • 40. Ocean Oil Spill Research Paper Ocean oil spills greatly impact the world today because oil is harmful to ocean life, mammals, and even humans. Since oil remains in the ocean for a considerably long time, scientists cannot determine how greatly the oil has really impacted the world today (Carey). However, It is important to know how ocean oil spills are caused, who and what they affect, and how to prevent and control them with the hope that the numbers will decline throughout the years. The causes of ocean oil spills originate from hurricanes, people s mistakes, equipment malfunctioning, and terrorist reactions. When an oil spill occurs, it often occurs in tankers, refineries, or pipelines that are being shipped to another facility (Background on Oil Spills). After the oil is spilled onto the salt water, it disperses at a fast rate, which makes oil slick. The oil continues to spread, causing it to weaken and it resembles a rainbow (Background on Oil Spills). When an oil spill occurs on the uppermost layer of water, it evaporates, is degraded by sunlight, gets consumed by microbes, or washes up on beaches (Begley). The oil spill in 2010, the second highest oil spill in history, took place because of an eruption at an oil drilling site, which caused the oil to spill into the Gulf of Mexico (Abdul). An eating disorder is defined as a severe disturbance in eating behavior. An eating disorder, as defined by our text book for class, is psychological disturbances that lead to certain physiological changes and serious health complications. The three most common and most easily identifiable forms of eating disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. While most people who have eating disorders tend to be women from white middle class upper class families, eating disorders span social class, gender, race, and ethnic backgrounds (Floyd, Mimms, Yelding, Eating Disorders, 2008). It is believed that most eating disorders develop as a way to handle stress. People with eating disorders tend to have low self esteem, feelings of helplessness, depression, and perfectionism. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, more than 90 percent of people with eating disorders are adolescent girls and young women and the death rate for eating disorders is about one in ten people. Causes of eating disorders can include genetic, biological, social, psychological, and environmental factors (Schiff, 2016). Without the use of a Toxin Handler to ameliorate the emotional pain, workplace toxicity affects the bottom line of an organization through lost productivity from distraction, debilitating health issues, and attrition (Scholten). Workplace Incivility: I don t have time to be nice. Unlike aggressive, violent, and abusive workplaces, where the intent to cause harm is apparent, incivility takes on more ambiguous forms, where the perceptions of the instigator, target, and observer(s), must factor together to determine intent (Andersson, 1999). General incivility, as a primary precursor to a toxic workplace, can be described as rude behavior, or a disregard for others within the organization, stemming from a lack of recognition, or ignorance, of co workers emotions and values, often taking form in deviance as a protest of dissatisfaction (Kelloway, 2010), and leads to a downward spiral of malcontent. Pearson classifies Incivility as Low intensity deviant behavior with ambiguous intent to harm stemming from Anti social behavior in violation of workplace norms for mutual respect .Despite the intent, or lack thereof, the effects of incivility in the workplace are strictly damaging, and as such, must be addressed before spiraling out of control. • 44. Native Language And Indigenous Language Language is one of many components that identify a group of people to their culture. Unfortunately, there are quite a few obstacles that challenge indigenous people learning their native language. The loss of a language distances groups farther from their native roots, which is exactly opposite of the efforts being made in Canada. Learning and practicing an indigenous language fulfills one s role as an engaged citizen and allows for engagement within a culture. The McGill Tribune published Jenny Shen s article discussing these common issues regarding revitalizing indigenous languages in Canada. Shen interviews Chelsea Vowel, a woman of Métis descent, who has committed herself to indigenous language education. Vowel states, The language is what holds our culture together like glue. There is no separation in my mind. She also points out that it has become harder for people of indigenous descent to learn their language for a number of reasons. Problems that arise consist of not being completely engaged in the native language, deciphering between dialects, and funding issues. The loss of indigenous languages in Canada is a contemporary issue of great concern because many indigenous and nonindigenous people realize the extent of culture loss once a language has dissipated. Shen also gathered information from Anna Daigneult, the Latin America project coordinator and development officer at Living Tongues Institute for Endangered Languages. One of the first steps in overcoming an obstacle was to visualize the achievement, to create an imagined experience . Envisioning success bolsters a person s morale and provides a renewed vigor with which to attack the obstacle. Although the text focused on self leadership, the authors did discuss how self leadership is directly tied into the success of teams. The same strategies, which improve self leadership in oneself, can be extrapolated for a team: removal of negative cues, goal setting, strong team beliefs and team mental imagery are a few examples. However, in order to ensure the success of the team, there must be a balance of me and we , meaning that while individualistic goals must be set and followed, they must coincide with team goals and neither should outweigh the other.
