Sociology As The Second Father Of Sociology
Neither the life of an Individual nor the history of a Society can be understood without understanding
both (mills, 2017), this is how C. wright mills describes sociology. Every human live in a society,
Sociology is the systemic study of human society and relationships on a group level. And also it
allows looking on the big picture on a group level. The talks about sociology started when industrial
revolution began during late 1700s and 1800s. This essay will give you some information about the
founders of Sociology and their theories. August Comte known as the Father of sociology and Herbert
Spencer is called the the second father of sociology. The third founder is Karl Marx and the last one is
Emile Durkheim. These four people found different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being a great philosopher he got interested in studying sociology and he focused on the study of
society which is called sociology . During the days when August Comte started discovering more
about sociology, he found out that there is a system called Positivism . Positivism means checking or
testing if a social method works on human social behavior and sees how societies are structured. His
efforts led to the development of sociology among the people. He kept on trying to promote his idea
around the world. He died due to stomach cancer in Paris on September 5. His great work made him
the Father of sociology. And right after August Comte there was another person with the exact
opposite idea about sociology. William George Spencer s son Herbert Spencer was born in Derby,
England on April 27, 1820. George Spencer was a revolt of the circumstances and developed in
Herbert a hostile to dictator demeanor. George, as his father was kenned, was the progenitor of a
school that used unconventional edifying methods and was a contemporary of Erasmus Darwin,
grandfather of Charles and also George focused Herbert s early edification on science and he was

American Born Chinese Children Under Chinese Culture
Socialization
American Born Chinese Children under Chinese Culture
According to the American Heritage Dictionary, socialization is the process of learning interpersonal
and interactional skills that are in conformity with the values of one s society (American Heritage). It
is a process of learning culture. During socialization, children will acquire attitudes, norms, values,
behaviors, personalities, etc. within agencies of socialization, which were described as Agencies of
socialization are structured groups or contexts within which significant processes of socialization
occur. according to the sociology terminology (Gidden 1). Socialization always begins very early in

The majority of Chinese immigrant families engage in professional careers, such as engineering,
medicine, accounting and research. Being socialized through their parents, many ABC s expect to
achieve those careers through the higher education. They will be told how decent and wonderful it
would be if their jobs as a doctor or scientist. Also, their parents will reinforce the idea that those jobs
will be useful to a society as well. On the Goldsea website, it is reported that: young Asian American
infiltrated professional ranks, primarily in medicine, engineering and accounting. The next few
decades saw Asians multiply in those fields, while a small minority ventured into law, journalism and
marketing. But even at the start of the new millennium, most promising Asian Americans continue
crowding into medical and engineering fields, with corporate finance and management emerging as a
serious alternative. (Goldsea 1). While many European Americans choose business as their careers, the
young ABC still engage in the traditional careers due to the pressures of family and cultural biases.

Role of Finance and Hr Manager
The Role of Finance Manager
The role of finance manager in the company is an important one. The function of the finance manager
is not confined to the management and making of the accounts but it also plays a major role in
dividend decisions, capital budgeting decisions, capital structure outlay of the firm, decision related to
the merger and acquisitions, and all the investment decisions of the firm. Thus the finance manager
plays an important role in any business enterprise.
The different decisions can be classified into: 1. The routine working capital and cash management

They need to be knowledgeable of Center s policy but also have an understanding of harassment and
discrimination beyond the policies themselves.
HR Managers need to be alert to potential harassment and discrimination issues and act appropriately,
either directly or through the appropriate line manager/s. They also must be able to give impartial and
expert advice to people involved in harassment and discrimination cases, both complainants and
alleged offenders.
Victims of harassment in particular may need support and reassurance about the Center s policy and
procedures as well as assurance of confidentiality. The HR Manager should identify appropriate
sources of professional counseling for victims at/for each duty station.
Assisting management in establishing avenues of assistance at all duty stations
While the HR Manager is usually the ultimate source of expert advice and guidance on harassment
and discrimination in each Center, she/he obviously cannot be at every duty station simultaneously.
The HR Manager may even operate in a different time zone than some of the Center s duty stations.
Consequently staff members at all duty stations who may be experiencing harassment need to have
immediate avenues of assistance. These would either be at their duty station or for their duty station if
it has a very small staff.
A good contingency plan for avenues of assistance will have (but not necessarily be limited to) the

The American Political System Changes
The American political system changes regularly. Any small political change like increasing or
decreasing tariffs on imported goods might keep customers from buying Walmart s products which it
could adversely affect its accounting and financial profits. Walmart is currently operates globally. So,
they need to follow certain regulations and rules of host countries in their operations. Most of these
factors are beyond their control and they could negatively affect their operations internationally. The
best two examples of these implications is when Walmart international was forced by the Chinese

U.S. economy continued to recover at a moderate pace. However, there is no assurance that such
recovery trend will continue in the future. To deal with the difference in the economic environments
between countries, Walmart should follow different strategy. Just like the price strategy, the price of
the products may be different because of the costs is different. If both wages and expenses in a country

Photography And The Art Of Photography
Photography. To truly appreciate the art of photography, it must be known that it is not some simple
task where all one does is press down on the button. This is not all that it is. Photography skills vary
from person to person, and can evolve over time. When looking back on the past, one can see how
personal photography is to a photographer. Even from historical photographers such as Ansel Adams,
Dorothea Lange, George Hurrell, Eadweard Muybridge, and many others, it is noticeable that
photography styles truly do vary from person to person. Each has their own technique for capturing an
image. Each one has their own purpose when they push that button. Not one of them takes a picture
intending to capture what someone else already has. They all want to take what they see in the
moment and then preserve it to be held throughout time. Not only has photography allowed these
people and many others after their existence to be able to express how they see the world, but it has
also opened the doors for all those other people to join in on such an art. No longer being limited to
paintings and drawings, people from all over could, as they became more accessible, obtain and utilize
a camera. Though the view on photography has not changed an abundant amount, how pictures are
seen by the public has. The people have gone from taking images as they are in camera, to being able
to change them into something entirely different than what it originally was. From adding, to taking

Gender Socialization Is The Process Of Learning The Social
Gender socialization is the process of learning the social prospects and behaviors connected with one s
sex. According to gender socialization there are so many reasons why males and females act in
different ways: they learn different social roles. For example, girls learn to do different household
chores such as: how to cook, how to clean, how to do sweep, how to take care of family etc and boys
learn to work outside, how to earn money, how to rule the world etc. The effect of family, school,
media, society, interaction between two people are the reasons of gender socialization. Sometimes
gender roles lead to inequality such as according to, We should all be feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi

There are so many different ways in our society by which people express their expectation about a boy
or a girl. For example, when a baby comes into the world he or she has to face either Blue or Pink
reality. All around the world we can see that, babies are differentiated by the color, pink stuffs for a
girl and blue for a boy. When they grow up, they start act like a male or female because they receive
the message from society about their identity and act accordingly. That is how society constructs
gender. Gender plays an important role in our society and society expects different type of behaviors
according to men and woman. Gender socialization teaches how to do play a role as a male and female
in the society. The set of gender socialization is made up with behaviors and attitudes which
encourage a person characteristic based on his or her sex. Differences between men and women are
influenced by Our society, culture, norms, values, religious, media, rules and regulation. For example,
when a girl fall down we show her sympathy and take care to her, while a boy fall down we encourage
him not to cry and ensure him that he will be ok. By way of explanation gender socialization help
from our identities as men or women. Masculine and feminine cultures and individuals generally
differ in how they communicate with others. For example, feminine people tend to self disclose more

A Letter Written By The Apostle Paul
Ephesians is a letter written by the Apostle Paul during his imprisonment in Rome. This is the same
Paul who had previously persecuted the church, under the name Saul. Paul is not writing to a
particular church body, rather his intended audience was various churches in the surrounding vicinity
of Ephesus. His purpose was to encourage the faithful on The spiritual privileges of the Church, and
The spiritual responsibilities of the Church. Paul was addressing three issues facing these growing
church communities. 1) New Gentile converts were holding on to their old beliefs; 2) they had a need
to cultivate a new lifestyle consistent with their salvation; and 3) the growing tension between Gentile
converts and Jewish Christians. With all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christ himself gave...to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built
up. You may be wondering why I did not mention the list of individuals mentioned earlier. The reason
is this passage carries much debate and I want to address it before we move forward. There are two
interpretations on this passage. The first interpretation uses the words And He gave some as apostles,
and some as prophets, and some as evangelist, and some as pastors and teachers (NASB). This
interpretation develops the idea that there are particular roles or offices that Christ appoints individuals
into. Therefore, some are gifted as apostles or prophets ect. The second interpretation is that Christ
gave all these individuals for the building of his body. This problem exist because of grammer. Both
the word some and the can modify the nouns apostles, prophets ect. Although both interpretations
possess validity, based on context the best interpretation of the passage is the apostles, the prophets
etc. I know I have taken a long time to make this point but bare with me. The reason this detail
matters, is that if we use the first interpretation, then only a few believers are given these specific roles
of ministry. The second interpretation develops the idea that Christ gives all believers the ability to
exercise the various roles. In order, to equip his people for the building of his body. In addition,

In our time, bioterrorism is an upcoming threat that is lurking behind the scenes. Even though we are

Siddharth Gaining Self Empowerment Through Experiences
Gaining Self Empowerment Through Experiences Reality to most people means the world and the
state of things as they actually exist, however for the purpose of this essay reality means experience,
more specifically knowledge through experience and how students in high school can acquire it in the
form of self empowerment. Self empowerment is taking control of one s own life, knowing their limits
and learning from their mistakes. Siddhartha rejected the teachings of the Buddha in order to gain
knowledge through experiences, Siddhartha lost himself and made mistakes in his quest for getting
enlightened but found retribution by realizing his mistakes, learning from them and making a change.
From Hume s philosophy it is understood that there are two types of knowledge, knowledge of the
world, which is subjective to a person s experience and prior knowledge which is knowledge of
relations of ideas that cannot be experienced such as mathematics. Although students have prior
knowledge such as mathematics, knowledge of the world comes from experience and students need
experience in order to gain self empowerment and achieve success.
Students need to learn how to take charge of their lives. Students must gain experiences from an early
age and while they are in school, so they can be further prepared for life after high school. Subjects
such as mathematics and history and essentials like PowerPoints, worksheets and information given to
students by their teachers are

Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication...
You know that feeling of home whether it s with family members or even your loved ones? I don t
think that home is something that is automatically there, I believe that it is something that s created. I
learned that lesson through the eyes of one of my older friends who came from India with his brother
when he was 16 in order to make a living. My friend Vikas, told me everything he had to do and the
struggles he conquered in order to make his own successful business here in the U.S. Some things he
told be reminded me of interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, and intracultural
communication. He had to have a lot of communication with his friend who also happened to be from
India and some new friends and colleagues he met through his journey. Of course there was
homesickness and the occasional depression, but that didn t stop him from creating his now successful
business. The reason he came to America was that he wasn t financially stable over there back home. I
was so desperate and determined to get out of my own country, my own home, in order to make a
better life for me. Those words kept replaying in my head, but home was the words that made me
think deeply. He had to leave all of that, all his family, his own haven, in order to make a better living.
I could interpret all of that because of our interpersonal communication. I could actually feel his pain
by the way his eyes were looking away, the little pauses in between meant that he was trying to

Qin Shi Huang Dbq
Qin Shi Huang was born in 259 BC and eventually ascended to the throne of the kingdom of Qin at
the age of 21 creating a war and declaring himself China s first emperor (Source 1). Although he did
bring unification to China, Qin Shi Huang was a forbidding and brutal dictator who abused his power
and dishonoured his people and country. This assignment will clearly highlight the negative aspects of
Qin Shi Huang, including: the banning of Confucius, how he enforced of unnecessarily strict laws and
how his arrogance and ignorance eventually took over.
Qin Shi Huang was a fierce leader who was feared by his people. (Source 1) Believing that knowledge
about the past was dangerous, as were ideas that encouraged free and independent thinking, he banned
the teaching of Confucius. He instead preferred what is known as legalism. Han Fei tzu, a Legalist and
the tutor of Shi Huangdi, wrote, The ruler alone should possess the power, wielding it like lightning or
like thunder. Qin Shi Huang ordered books and writing that did not support his ideas to be burned.

The Life Of The Orca Whales
Free the Orcas!
Imagine being separated from your parents at a young age, taken only to spend the rest of your life in
a confined environment, forced against your natural living circumstances. This is the life of the Orca
whales (also known as Killer whales) at Sea World, an amusement park located in multiple places
around the nation. Sea World performs shows incorporating animals, such as seals and whales to do
tricks for amusement. However, recent research and media shows that Sea World lacks appropriate
care for the whales they hold captive. They also have been said to hunt for their whales, but hunting of
these animals threaten their growth, natural living conditions and their global population. One might
say that the park is like a prison to these creatures, however those in prison make the choice to be put
there. The whales are not allowed the freedom when held in captivity, so Sea World should be shut
down due to its responsibility for the life threatening circumstances of the Orca Whales.
Orcas are very intelligent beings that are known for their ability to learn. Besides pollution of the
ocean, commercial killing and other devastating factors of population decline, hunting for
entertainment plays a huge part in the death of orcas. According to WDC, a website dedicated to
whale and dolphin conservation, there are currently 56 whales held captive in eight different countries.
Since 1961, 150 orcas have been held captive. Now, only 23 of these whales are still alive.

Fahrenheit 451 Language Analysis
In Fahrenheit 451 a character by the name of Montag has a job to burn books. Later in the story it gets
to him, why he s burning books in the first place. This eventually sparks his curiosity for reading
books and later his downfall in the end of the novel. Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451 the overall plot
was to censure every book so that they could never cause anymore commotion and domestic actions
ever again. In Bradbury s novel, he uses tone in several ways to illustrate censorship is inappropriate
through his use of charged words, his use of historical symbols, and his ability to reflect the ideas of
historical positive role models. Bradbury s uses charged words to state his view of negative censorship
through adjectives. For example, (excerpt 1). It was a special pleasure to burn to see things eaten, to
see things blackened and changed. He uses these words here to show how Montag enjoys to burn
books and how he feels like he s helping the cause. Montag s stance changes in the second excerpt
when he starts to feel alone for example, We need not to be let alone. We need to be really bothered

Black Friday And Its Effect On America
Since the 1960s, consumers have been waking up during the early morning hours the day after
Thanksgiving to score the lowest prices of the year. Black Friday kicks off the Christmas shopping
season, with prices so low people get into physical fights in hopes of grabbing the last item. But has
Black Friday ran its course? Many analyst seem to think that Black Friday will have very little
importance in the upcoming years, and I would have to agree with them. Although I do believe that
the weekend after Thanksgiving will always be a little busier than any other weekend, I believe the
urgency consumers feel to wake up at 3 a.m. on Black Friday to snag the best deals will eventually
cease to exist.
One of the largest reasons I believe that Black Friday will lose its importance is that many stores are
now starting to open their doors on Thanksgiving evening. This year, many stores opened their doors
at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving, offering the same deals that consumers could receive the following day,
Black Friday. In my own personal experience, I believe the stores were busier Thursday evening than
they were on Black Friday itself. Large box stores such as Wal Mart and Target are hurting their own
Black Friday sales by making Black Friday less exclusive. In the consumer s mind, Black Friday is a
day when all stores are packed, checkout lines will be long, aisles crowded, so why not going
Thanksgiving evening when the store is open? This seems like a logical reason to go, since they

The Role Of Identifying Areas That Narrate Home Front Stories
The role of identifying areas that narrate home front stories is challenging. Many factories, research
laboratories, government office buildings, housing projects, United Service Organization canteens,
military bases, schools, and day care centers were expanded or built during the Second World War.
Theaters in many of communities in the nation had a role in the sponsorship of the War through
driving and showing terrifying newsreels as well as uplifting entertaining movies. Bus and railroad
stations in small towns and major cities could not contain the millions of people passing through to
new defense jobs or military service. The alternative places represented negative wartime stories with
segregated military bases and housing, war relocation environments for individuals with Japanese
descent, prisons, and conscientious objectors were observed. Most of the sites were engaged in racial
conflict and labor confrontation in Pearl Harbor. All American society segments were allowed to
contribute towards the stunning achievement. Further, President Roosevelt shared the literal truth in
1943 illustrating that all combat divisions and naval task forces were deliberate squadrons for fighting
planes with independent ammunition and equipment. The fuel and food provided for the American
people using civilian clothes was an allowance of offices and factories on farms to satisfy the home
needs. During the Yalta Conference, the obvious contribution within the factories was an element in

of film it took 47 hours of rendering (www.imdb.com/title/tt0499549/trivia). There are specialized
training school for Special Effects Technicians, such as the Art institute with multiple locations across
the country and a few in California.. A College degree is not required it is common especially in the
area of CGI. A Pyrotechnician must be certified by the state that they work in and pass a Pyrotechnic
safety and handling course. The Physical Effects Technician should have a firm grasp of art styles and
art mediums. Now that we know what a Special Effects Technician does, what kind of monetary
compensation do they earn. A person can specialize in one or more areas of expertise.
Their earnings vary due to geographic location. Since a large majority of the special effects are used in

Organizational Behavior as a Discipline for Discovery Essay
Organizational Behavior as a Discipline for Discovery
Ask a manager of 35, 25 or even 15 years ago what their Organization s Behavioral patterns were or
how their employees felt about certain issues and you would probably be met with blank stares.
Organizational Behavior (OB) was not a part of the business world in those days. The idea that a
manager need only deal with the technical skills of it s employees while disregarding their own
listening skills, communication skills and interaction skills was the common mode of thought. A
recent study on employee burnout by Northwestern National Life Insurance shows that at least one out
of every four employees views their job as the biggest stressor in ... Show more content on

Robbins notes in his text that the previous 3 generations, while similar in some respects, held distinct
differences in their values (p.130 2). Organizational behavior is a byproduct of the times. The workers
adapted to their organization and grew with it (1940 s and 50 s). As time went on a shift towards
quality of life, non conforming, autonomy and loyalty to one s own values became prevalent (1960 s
and 70 s). Another shift occurred in the mid 70 s. The value system moved towards ambition, loyalty
to career, hardworking, and the desire for success and achievement. This period lasted till about the
mid 80 s when another shift moved us towards the value system commonly held today of flexibility,
value to relationships, desire for leisure time and overall job satisfaction. Robbins classified these four
stages as follows: Protestant work ethic, Existential, Pragmatic, and Generation X (p.131). We can see
that what worked in the 50 s in terms of how an organization operated is probably not going to be as
effective in today s organizations. Whether it s the Protestant work ethic of the 1940 s and 50 s or it s
Generation X of today, the picture should be clear. We need to know what our workers value, how
they feel and change with them so as to keep our organization on the cutting edge of productivity and
profitability.

Innovation And The Successful Investment Of New Ideas
Innovation is main factor for the progress of any organization. When using the innovation in the right
way that gives the organization competitive among other companies.
Business innovation is all about the successful investment of new ideas. Innovation plays a key role in
the success of many local and international companies. The aim of Innovation is increased businesses,
which generate profits (Use innovation to start or grow your business introducation, n.d.). There is an
important difference between invention and innovation. Invention is created new idea whereas
Innovation apply correctly for ideas and exploitation of an idea (The business case for innovation,
n.d.). This essay will describe how innovation can encourage businesses.
Innovation means The process of translating an idea or invention into a good or service that creates
value or for which customers will pay (business dictionary, n.d.). Whereas innovation in business
means involve new ideas for improving your existing services or creating new product. Moreover,
Innovation helps to keep up with modern life and grow in the marketplace (Australian government,
n.d.).
Business owners have several sources, which help them to create new ideas. Suppliers, business
partners and business network contacts can all make useful contributions to inventive process
methods. In addition, encourage staff with awards for creative ideas helps in generating creative ideas

Paper On Landscaping
Gardening and landscaping is a wonderful way to make use of your outdoor space. In order for you to
have a beautiful garden, you are going to have to plan it around the conditions that are in your area.
You can have great looking garden anywhere; you just have to make sure that you work with what you
have. Living in the west or southwest where the air is arid and the climate is dry, will require the
planting of drought tolerant plants that can survive the hot and dry conditions that are present in these
areas of the country. Since these areas are close to the desert, they can get anywhere from 4 to 16
inches of rain annually. Rain is very inconsistent in this area of the country. Some years they will get
very little and other years twice as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The early steps toward winterizing includes weeding, mulching and composting the weeds. Hopefully,
the gardener will have time to weed before the weeds develop seeds. If this should not be the case,
compost or dispose of the resultant greenery away from the garden to prevent a bumper crop of weeds
next year. Cover fallow areas of the garden or future garden patches with garden cloth or black plastic;
lay down a layer of mulch, and cover the mulch with plastic. Weight it down well. The mulch and
plastic will kill the weeds in the future gardening area; containing the mulch as the filling in a plastic
sandwich allows the gardener the ability to lift away incompletely rotted material without excessive
handling. This is especially important for individuals with mold allergies. As autumn approaches and
the nights grow longer and colder, assess the plants still growing in the garden. Salad beds and even
tomato plants can be made to grow a little longer if surrounded by square hay bales topped with a
plastic window . This creates an impromptu cold frame. The hay or straw provides insulation; the
plastic allows sunlight for photosynthesis and solar heating. Autumn is a good time to plant green
manure crops, such as turnips, that can be tilled into the soil in the spring. It is also a good time to
apply slow release organic fertilizers.

DEET Research Paper
To begin with, I believe DEET is one of the most affective ways to repel mosquitos. Some do not
agree, as they believe DEET is a harmful chemical. I will explain why I think that DEET is one of the
best mosquito repellents. DEET is shorthand for the chemical name N,N diethyl meta toluamide and is
the active ingredient in most insect repellents. It has been used for over 60 years, by over 50 million
people. Dr. Mustapha Debboun, who is director of the mosquito control division of Harris County
Public Health and Environmental Services in Houston, says ¨DEET is the standard¨. Meaning that
DEET is the highest quality there is for bug spray. Dr. Dan Strickman, who is with the Global Health
Program at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When applied to certain materials, DEET can be damaging, which is concerning as it is approved for
use on human skin. DEET can damage rubber, plastic, vinyl, lenses and synthetic fibers. The people
who are against it claim that if DEET is that damaging to other things, think about what it might be
doing to us. According to the writer Francie Diep from Popular Science, ¨In all of scientific literature
since 1957, when DEET first appeared on store shelves researchers have reported 14 cases of kids
who suffered encephalopathy, including seizures, after using DEET on their skin. All but one were
kids under age 8. Three children died. The others recovered fully. In each of the cases, it was difficult
to determine whether DEET caused the brain symptoms. The kids could have been exposed to other
things, but it could have been the DEET, too.¨ However, I still stand by my opinion that DEET is the
best. There have been studies that show proof that DEET has no adverse affects. Many doctors agree
that it´s one of the best ways to repel the nasty blood suckers. Consequently if people somehow start
dying or getting cancer or mutating into weird stuff from using DEET, I will stop using it and use an
alternative. However, since it has not been proven to have those side effects, I will forever use bug
spray that contains DEET because the benefits outweigh the disadvantages, which are not even proven

Art Vs. Art Education
Art is defined as the expression or application of humans creative skills and imagination. Art is found
in almost everywhere in our day to day lives. Without peoples imagination and creative skills we
wouldn t have buildings, technology and entertainment. Creativity is a important subject in society, yet
the subject being taught in schools is on a decline. How can we live in such an advancing society
when our future generations are not learning how to use their imagination or how to apply their
creative skills? Although people argue that more class time needs to be put towards math and science
classes, art classes need to increase in our schools. Art has many benefits on the brain and Students
who have access to arts in or out of school tend to have better academic results, better workforce
opportunities, and more civic engagement (National Endowment for the Arts). Art education needs to
improve because it is a helpful stress reliever, important for childhood development and helps students
succeed in school and life. Many people underestimate the benefits of art on the brain. Art not only is
a great stress reliever, but it is also a tool used to clear your head and help tackle issues causing stress.
A study done by the University of Westminer found that taking a 30 min trip to a art museum can
significantly lower your stress level (Bergado). Observing art also sparks parts of the brain that are

How Did Robert Wars Show
Robert Warshow, author of The Immediate Experience: Movies, Comics, Theater and Other Aspects of
Popular Culture, was at once a student and teacher of experience. He was a lover of popular culture in
all forms, a New York Intellectual , and a disenchanted writer searching for the cultural value in
everything he saw, read or experienced. (denby 2001, xiii) Through reading his collection of critical
essays one can see Warshow as a Jewish man, with strong opinions about communism and its affect
on society, a movie buff, and a critic enamored with experience. Experience both from the perspective
of the artist, as well as the observer of the art. From the beginning of his life, it seems, Robert
Warshow was a man destine to be a political intellectual, immersed in both history and the tensions of
the moment. (denby 2001, XV) Growing up in New York early in the twentieth century, and being the
son of Adolph Warshow who at one point ran for congress on the socialist ticket, Robert gained early
insight into the political strain of the time. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Warshow found
himself an editor and writer for the social democratic, anti stalinist magazine The New Leader. After
the war, he began working for Commentary as an editor, but also publishing his own work. This was a
pivotal job for him, as Commentary was widely known and read by other intellectuals of the time.

The Importance Of Gender Bias
One of the most debated topics in modern society today is equality. Most everyone agrees that all
people are equal, however, most everyone is also implicitly biased about genders whenever it comes
to careers. For example, imagine for a moment a random piano teacher. What gender did you
automatically think of them as? You more than likely initially imaged a female piano teacher. Now,
imagine a random surgeon/ doctor. What gender did you automatically see them as? You probably
imaged them as a male. If so, you are experiencing implicit gender bias. Unfortunately, you are not
alone in this; society itself implicitly assigns males to scientific careers and women to liberal arts.
Implicit bias are the completely unconscious stereotypes and attitudes we have towards society that
affects our decisions and understanding of things. The key word in that definition is unconscious.
Most people do not even realize they hold this bias; you might not have even realized you were
experiencing this bias until reading this paragraph. This ignorance is one of the main reasons this bias
is still occurring on a daily basis to most of humanity, and it is the main reason there is such a gender
divide in careers today. It is hypothesized that helping people identify their implicit bias (specifically
gender career bias) and providing them with basic education and strategies on the topic itself will
reduce their gender career bias. The rather recent development of social media has been helpful to

said, How had I fallen so far? We first saw that she was a good person. Later, however, we found out
that Anna wants to kill her older brother. Another quote that explains that she has poor morality is,
Dalassena wore a gleeful smile, and her wrinkled hand grasped the boy s shoulder. You forgot to bow

Mobile Phone Radiation Affects Our Health Essay
Introduction In the year 1966, less than 100 million adults across the globe had cell phones. However,
as of 2016, there were 4.23 billion mobile phone users across the globe. The exponential increase in
mobile phone use has made it urgent to determine whether or not mobile phone radiation poses a
health hazard. The question of whether mobile phone radiation affects our health has been surrounded
by controversy since the introduction of mobile phones. For several years, the World Health
Organization (WHO) has assured people that there are no significant risks stemming from repeated
use of mobile phones. However, it included mobile phone radiation to the list of carcinogenic
substances in the year 2011. A carcinogenic substance is a substance that is directly involved in
causing cancer. What exactly is Mobile Phone Radiation? Mobile phone radiation can be defined as
energy travelling through space in form of waves. Since mobile phones use radio frequency (RF) to
make or receive calls, it emits electromagnetic radiation. The radiation emitted by the mobile phones
is classified as non ionizing. In simpler terms, it does not ionize other molecules; instead it excites
materials into another form of energy. If mobile phone radiation was ionizing, it would be very
harmful as it would ionize molecules causing more radiation effects. Other gadgets that produce non
ionizing radiation include visible light, microwave and radio waves. It is therefore true to say that we

Rhetorical Devices In Jfk Inaugural Speech
On January 20 of 1961, John F. Kennedy took the stage and received the honor of becoming the
President of the United States. At this time, throughout the world we were locked into constant issues,
such as the Cold War. This put us in a headlock with Russia because neither side was willing to press
the button and release the bombs. Kennedy stood on the platform and swore to us in his inaugural
speech that he would keep us, the public, safe and end these conflicts that we were tangled in.
Rhetorical devices became his ally as he tries to establish trust and hope for himself through the hearts
of the audience.
In the first section of the speech, Kennedy celebrates the deep history of America and promises to
continue to uphold the ideal we were founded on. The metaphor the torch has been passed on to a new
generation of Americans reminds his audience of the rich past of the country and the duty this
generation has to uphold it. This metaphor is very poignant because the torch holders in expeditions
are extremely vital to the safety and success of the people on the journey. So when he stated that it has
been passed on to us, you get the feeling that a really important job has been given to us and that we
must work hard not to let anyone down. In the same idea, the torch is also being given to Kennedy as
he takes on the role of the President. So we can view it as us all holding a torch with Kennedy heading
the group as we strive to carve a path through the darkness of

The Hotel Of Barton Fink
The Use of Sound as an Alternate Reality in the Hotel of Barton Fink Barton Fink is a film that has no
set plotline other than a writer who experiences writing block in a detached reality in a hotel. Barton s
writer s block could stem from the fact that he believes that he has sold out to writing screenplays for
large movie studios or it may be from all the distractions the Hotel Earle provides for him. The use of
background noises within Barton s room and the hotel itself helps the viewer to see that reality within
that room is slightly distorted. Sound that is perhaps louder than usual and prolonged moments of
silence are ways that create a different atmosphere than the outside world. With a simplistic sound
track that is used sparsely, it helps to keep focus on the dialogue or the actors onscreen. Barton admits
that he chose that particular hotel to give him a quiet place to work, but of course, many of the
problems he experiences seem to come from there. In this essay I will explain how the sound effects
used within the scenes involving the hotel or the room create a different reality in that space. The first
sound heard in the hotel is the continuous ring of the bell Barton taps to get the attention of the front
desk. It goes on for longer than is realistically possible and is silenced by a light touch. Since it rang
for so long, it should have given Barton a sign that something was different about the hotel he chose to
stay at. Looking into the dull room, the door

A Qualitative Analysis
One issue that sports have been facing recently is that of doping. The article A qualitative analysis of
the experiences of elite athletes who have admitted to doping for performance enhancement ,
published in the International Journal of Sport Policy and Politics, by Kate Kirby, Aidan Moran, and
Suzanne Guerin, provides insight as to the motives of athletes who dope, as well as what may help to
deter doping in athletes. Kirby, Moran, and Guerin chose to look at athletes who had previously

al s 2011 article, as it shows the negative effects that doping can have on the careers of athletes if they
are discovered. It demonstrates that the athletes who dope are generally not allowed to participate in
their sports again. It also shows that thousands of athletes were willing to dope, despite knowing that
if they were caught, the consequences could include being banned from their sports and having their
source of income be taken away. This may demonstrate, as was said in Kirby et. al s article (2011),
that consequences such as ban from a sport may not be very effective anti doping methods. It may be
more beneficial to make known the consequences such as loss of friendship and respect of the general
public to dissuade athletes from doping. The research of Kirby et. al (2011) did point towards the
moral issues of doping being more of a deterrent to athletes. One possible reason that so many of the
Russian athletes agreed to participate in doping could be that the government was playing a role these
athletes were not only feeling pressured to succeed for their own sense of accomplishment, and for the
reason of not letting down any team mates, but were feeling the pressure to succeed from more

Keeping A Dialectic Journal Extremely Mind Opening
I found this experience of keeping a dialectic journal extremely mind opening. I had been keeping a
journal for a few weeks before this assignment began. For those who may not know a dialectic journal
is when for a set number of days a person free writes for a set amount of time, and then for an equal
number or days responds to what they wrote. My focus was supposed to be a tomato, but I quickly
realized that the tomato was only there to begin the conversation. I have always been a person who is
inside their head more often than not, which made some of the entries begin to come from a darker
room within my mind. When I started writing this journal I was okay with the assignment, and it was
fun to come up with the story of Alfredo. Soon after however, my entries started to get more and more
about myself. I jokingly write at one point that if this journal does not end in psych evaluation I did
not do my job correctly , little did I know that the depressive side of my mind would soon bring that
into a possibility. I have bipolar disorder and spend most of the last 4 days writing about it, I found
that putting words on paper helped somewhat. I also found that putting the words on paper became
easier as I wrote more

Essay on Offshore Drilling
Offshore Drilling
What is it?
Drilling for oil in the ocean is one of the greatest technological breakthroughs in recent decades, and
many new techniques have been developed to profit from the abundance of oil underneath the ocean
floor. While drilling for oil has been around for hundreds of years in one form or the another, the
effective extraction of petroleum from beneath the sea floor did not surface until the last forty years.
The search for oil often turns out to be unproductive, but this practice is vital for the economic future
of many nations.
In order for any drilling to take place, an offshore drilling rig must first be installed. These offshore
platforms can be situated in water up to a several hundred meters in depth. ... Show more content on

These production platforms come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and types, which are dependent on the
dimensions of the field, the depth of the water and how far the oil and/or gas field is from shore.
The platforms are generally made of steel and fixed to the seabed with steel posts. These platforms
harbor all of the processing equipment for the well and can house a maximum of 80 workers. In
addition, platforms have concrete structures large enough to store oil, with gravity keeping them
situated on the seabed
Explanation of Drilling
Drilling begins once the drill bit is lowered to the ocean floor. This first step is referred to as spudding.
There are two types of drill bits: (1) a roller cone or rock bit which usually has three cones armed with
steel or tungsten carbide teeth or buttons; or (2) a diamond bit, imbedded with small industrial
diamonds. The drill bit is attached to drill pipe and rotated by a turntable on the platform floor. As the
hole deepens, extra lengths of drill pipe are attached. (Offshore Drilling)
The diameter of the drill bit varies from a diameter of 36 inches, which is used when the hole in the
ocean floor is first started, to a diameter of 8.5 inches. The total length of a drill pipe is 30 feet. The
time it takes for the drill to reach the oil and gas trap could be weeks.
In order to move the drill cuttings

Leadership in Crisis
Ernest Shackleton and the Epic Voyage of the Endurance
3/10/2014 aFriendInNeed Situation Overview:
Shackleton sailed with 27 men from South Georgia Island on a British Polar expedition into South
Atlantic aboard the ship called Endurance. The south pole had been recently reached in 1911. The goal
of the Imperial Trans Antarctic Expedition was to become the first explorers to land on the Antarctic
continent as well as cross it. The original plan was to sail Endurance through the Weddell Sea and then
use dogs and sledges to support the crew of six men to march on the opposite side of Antarctica.
However, their ship became trapped in the pack ice of the Weddell Sea, before they could reach the
Antarctic coast. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, his spirited optimism, unrelenting courage and sheer determination displayed during the
crisis have become legendary.
By what criteria should the Endurance expedition be evaluated? As a scientific endeavor? An
entrepreneurial venture? An exercise in imperial opportunity? Given your answer, was it a success or
failure?
The Endurance expedition can be evaluated as an entrepreneurial venture. Shackleton was trying to
establish a name for himself as an explorer. His main goal was to be the first to reach the South Pole
and traverse the continent. Britain held records for the farthest exploration to the north and south polar
areas, but faced international competition as time went by. An international race was going on to reach
and cross the South Pole and England wanted to be the first to claim Antarctica.
Shackleton acted as an entrepreneur as he spent a lot of time raising the necessary funding for his
expedition. This journey had high associated risks, and he needed to secure tremendous funding for,
two vessels, as well as for two crews. Not only, he used his family connections to reach out for Britain
s wealthiest people, but also sent them a personal letter along with a copy of the expedition
prospectus. He managed to secure the needed £51,000 for the expedition. Eventually, he took a huge
financial risk to achieve his dream.

  • 7. Photography And The Art Of Photography Photography. To truly appreciate the art of photography, it must be known that it is not some simple task where all one does is press down on the button. This is not all that it is. Photography skills vary from person to person, and can evolve over time. When looking back on the past, one can see how personal photography is to a photographer. Even from historical photographers such as Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange, George Hurrell, Eadweard Muybridge, and many others, it is noticeable that photography styles truly do vary from person to person. Each has their own technique for capturing an image. Each one has their own purpose when they push that button. Not one of them takes a picture intending to capture what someone else already has. They all want to take what they see in the moment and then preserve it to be held throughout time. Not only has photography allowed these people and many others after their existence to be able to express how they see the world, but it has also opened the doors for all those other people to join in on such an art. No longer being limited to paintings and drawings, people from all over could, as they became more accessible, obtain and utilize a camera. The first interpretation uses the words And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelist, and some as pastors and teachers (NASB). Siddhartha rejected the teachings of the Buddha in order to gain knowledge through experiences, Siddhartha lost himself and made mistakes in his quest for getting enlightened but found retribution by realizing his mistakes, learning from them and making a change. Sea World performs shows incorporating animals, such as seals and whales to do tricks for amusement. However, recent research and media shows that Sea World lacks appropriate care for the whales they hold captive. They also have been said to hunt for their whales, but hunting of these animals threaten their growth, natural living conditions and their global population. Many analyst seem to think that Black Friday will have very little importance in the upcoming years, and I would have to agree with them. Although I do believe that the weekend after Thanksgiving will always be a little busier than any other weekend, I believe the urgency consumers feel to wake up at 3 a.m. on Black Friday to snag the best deals will eventually cease to exist. One of the largest reasons I believe that Black Friday will lose its importance is that many stores are now starting to open their doors on Thanksgiving evening. As time went on a shift towards quality of life, non conforming, autonomy and loyalty to one s own values became prevalent (1960 s and 70 s). Another shift occurred in the mid 70 s. • 24. Paper On Landscaping Gardening and landscaping is a wonderful way to make use of your outdoor space. In order for you to have a beautiful garden, you are going to have to plan it around the conditions that are in your area. You can have great looking garden anywhere; you just have to make sure that you work with what you have. Living in the west or southwest where the air is arid and the climate is dry, will require the planting of drought tolerant plants that can survive the hot and dry conditions that are present in these areas of the country. Since these areas are close to the desert, they can get anywhere from 4 to 16 inches of rain annually. Rain is very inconsistent in this area of the country. Some years they will get very little and other years twice as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The early steps toward winterizing includes weeding, mulching and composting the weeds. Hopefully, the gardener will have time to weed before the weeds develop seeds. If this should not be the case, compost or dispose of the resultant greenery away from the garden to prevent a bumper crop of weeds next year. Cover fallow areas of the garden or future garden patches with garden cloth or black plastic; lay down a layer of mulch, and cover the mulch with plastic. Weight it down well. The mulch and plastic will kill the weeds in the future gardening area; containing the mulch as the filling in a plastic sandwich allows the gardener the ability to lift away incompletely rotted material without excessive handling. This is especially important for individuals with mold allergies. As autumn approaches and the nights grow longer and colder, assess the plants still growing in the garden. Salad beds and even tomato plants can be made to grow a little longer if surrounded by square hay bales topped with a plastic window . This creates an impromptu cold frame. The hay or straw provides insulation; the plastic allows sunlight for photosynthesis and solar heating. Autumn is a good time to plant green manure crops, such as turnips, that can be tilled into the soil in the spring. It is also a good time to apply slow release organic fertilizers. ... • 25. DEET Research Paper To begin with, I believe DEET is one of the most affective ways to repel mosquitos. Some do not agree, as they believe DEET is a harmful chemical. I will explain why I think that DEET is one of the best mosquito repellents. DEET is shorthand for the chemical name N,N diethyl meta toluamide and is the active ingredient in most insect repellents. It has been used for over 60 years, by over 50 million people. Dr. Mustapha Debboun, who is director of the mosquito control division of Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services in Houston, says ¨DEET is the standard¨. Meaning that DEET is the highest quality there is for bug spray. Dr. Dan Strickman, who is with the Global Health Program at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When applied to certain materials, DEET can be damaging, which is concerning as it is approved for use on human skin. DEET can damage rubber, plastic, vinyl, lenses and synthetic fibers. The people who are against it claim that if DEET is that damaging to other things, think about what it might be doing to us. According to the writer Francie Diep from Popular Science, ¨In all of scientific literature since 1957, when DEET first appeared on store shelves researchers have reported 14 cases of kids who suffered encephalopathy, including seizures, after using DEET on their skin. All but one were kids under age 8. Three children died. The others recovered fully. In each of the cases, it was difficult to determine whether DEET caused the brain symptoms. The kids could have been exposed to other things, but it could have been the DEET, too.¨ However, I still stand by my opinion that DEET is the best. There have been studies that show proof that DEET has no adverse affects. Many doctors agree that it´s one of the best ways to repel the nasty blood suckers. Consequently if people somehow start dying or getting cancer or mutating into weird stuff from using DEET, I will stop using it and use an alternative. However, since it has not been proven to have those side effects, I will forever use bug spray that contains DEET because the benefits outweigh the disadvantages, which are not even proven ... • 26. Art Vs. Art Education Art is defined as the expression or application of humans creative skills and imagination. Art is found in almost everywhere in our day to day lives. Without peoples imagination and creative skills we wouldn t have buildings, technology and entertainment. Creativity is a important subject in society, yet the subject being taught in schools is on a decline. How can we live in such an advancing society when our future generations are not learning how to use their imagination or how to apply their creative skills? Although people argue that more class time needs to be put towards math and science classes, art classes need to increase in our schools. Art has many benefits on the brain and Students who have access to arts in or out of school tend to have better academic results, better workforce opportunities, and more civic engagement (National Endowment for the Arts). Art education needs to improve because it is a helpful stress reliever, important for childhood development and helps students succeed in school and life. Many people underestimate the benefits of art on the brain. Art not only is a great stress reliever, but it is also a tool used to clear your head and help tackle issues causing stress. • 27. How Did Robert Wars Show Robert Warshow, author of The Immediate Experience: Movies, Comics, Theater and Other Aspects of Popular Culture, was at once a student and teacher of experience. He was a lover of popular culture in all forms, a New York Intellectual , and a disenchanted writer searching for the cultural value in everything he saw, read or experienced. (denby 2001, xiii) Through reading his collection of critical essays one can see Warshow as a Jewish man, with strong opinions about communism and its affect on society, a movie buff, and a critic enamored with experience. Experience both from the perspective of the artist, as well as the observer of the art. From the beginning of his life, it seems, Robert Warshow was a man destine to be a political intellectual, immersed in both history and the tensions of the moment. (denby 2001, XV) Growing up in New York early in the twentieth century, and being the son of Adolph Warshow who at one point ran for congress on the socialist ticket, Robert gained early insight into the political strain of the time. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Warshow found himself an editor and writer for the social democratic, anti stalinist magazine The New Leader. After the war, he began working for Commentary as an editor, but also publishing his own work. • 28. The Importance Of Gender Bias One of the most debated topics in modern society today is equality. Most everyone agrees that all people are equal, however, most everyone is also implicitly biased about genders whenever it comes to careers. For example, imagine for a moment a random piano teacher. What gender did you automatically think of them as? You more than likely initially imaged a female piano teacher. Now, imagine a random surgeon/ doctor. What gender did you automatically see them as? You probably imaged them as a male. If so, you are experiencing implicit gender bias. Unfortunately, you are not alone in this; society itself implicitly assigns males to scientific careers and women to liberal arts. Implicit bias are the completely unconscious stereotypes and attitudes we have towards society that affects our decisions and understanding of things. The key word in that definition is unconscious. Most people do not even realize they hold this bias; you might not have even realized you were experiencing this bias until reading this paragraph. This ignorance is one of the main reasons this bias is still occurring on a daily basis to most of humanity, and it is the main reason there is such a gender divide in careers today. It is hypothesized that helping people identify their implicit bias (specifically gender career bias) and providing them with basic education and strategies on the topic itself will reduce their gender career bias. However, as of 2016, there were 4.23 billion mobile phone users across the globe. The exponential increase in mobile phone use has made it urgent to determine whether or not mobile phone radiation poses a health hazard. The question of whether mobile phone radiation affects our health has been surrounded by controversy since the introduction of mobile phones. For several years, the World Health Organization (WHO) has assured people that there are no significant risks stemming from repeated use of mobile phones. However, it included mobile phone radiation to the list of carcinogenic substances in the year 2011. A carcinogenic substance is a substance that is directly involved in causing cancer. What exactly is Mobile Phone Radiation? Mobile phone radiation can be defined as energy travelling through space in form of waves. Since mobile phones use radio frequency (RF) to make or receive calls, it emits electromagnetic radiation. The radiation emitted by the mobile phones is classified as non ionizing. In simpler terms, it does not ionize other molecules; instead it excites materials into another form of energy. If mobile phone radiation was ionizing, it would be very harmful as it would ionize molecules causing more radiation effects. Other gadgets that produce non ionizing radiation include visible light, microwave and radio waves. It is therefore true to say that we are in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Rhetorical Devices In Jfk Inaugural Speech On January 20 of 1961, John F. Kennedy took the stage and received the honor of becoming the President of the United States. At this time, throughout the world we were locked into constant issues, such as the Cold War. This put us in a headlock with Russia because neither side was willing to press the button and release the bombs. Kennedy stood on the platform and swore to us in his inaugural speech that he would keep us, the public, safe and end these conflicts that we were tangled in. Rhetorical devices became his ally as he tries to establish trust and hope for himself through the hearts of the audience. In the first section of the speech, Kennedy celebrates the deep history of America and promises to continue to uphold the ideal we were founded on. The metaphor the torch has been passed on to a new generation of Americans reminds his audience of the rich past of the country and the duty this generation has to uphold it. This metaphor is very poignant because the torch holders in expeditions are extremely vital to the safety and success of the people on the journey. So when he stated that it has been passed on to us, you get the feeling that a really important job has been given to us and that we must work hard not to let anyone down. In the same idea, the torch is also being given to Kennedy as he takes on the role of the President. So we can view it as us all holding a torch with Kennedy heading the group as we strive to carve a path through the darkness of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. The Hotel Of Barton Fink The Use of Sound as an Alternate Reality in the Hotel of Barton Fink Barton Fink is a film that has no set plotline other than a writer who experiences writing block in a detached reality in a hotel. Barton s writer s block could stem from the fact that he believes that he has sold out to writing screenplays for large movie studios or it may be from all the distractions the Hotel Earle provides for him. The use of background noises within Barton s room and the hotel itself helps the viewer to see that reality within that room is slightly distorted. Sound that is perhaps louder than usual and prolonged moments of silence are ways that create a different atmosphere than the outside world. With a simplistic sound track that is used sparsely, it helps to keep focus on the dialogue or the actors onscreen. Barton admits that he chose that particular hotel to give him a quiet place to work, but of course, many of the problems he experiences seem to come from there. In this essay I will explain how the sound effects used within the scenes involving the hotel or the room create a different reality in that space. The first sound heard in the hotel is the continuous ring of the bell Barton taps to get the attention of the front desk. It goes on for longer than is realistically possible and is silenced by a light touch. Since it rang for so long, it should have given Barton a sign that something was different about the hotel he chose to stay at. Looking into the dull room, the door ... It demonstrates that the athletes who dope are generally not allowed to participate in their sports again. It also shows that thousands of athletes were willing to dope, despite knowing that if they were caught, the consequences could include being banned from their sports and having their source of income be taken away. This may demonstrate, as was said in Kirby et. al s article (2011), that consequences such as ban from a sport may not be very effective anti doping methods. It may be more beneficial to make known the consequences such as loss of friendship and respect of the general public to dissuade athletes from doping. The research of Kirby et. al (2011) did point towards the moral issues of doping being more of a deterrent to athletes. One possible reason that so many of the Russian athletes agreed to participate in doping could be that the government was playing a role these athletes were not only feeling pressured to succeed for their own sense of accomplishment, and for the reason of not letting down any team mates, but were feeling the pressure to succeed from more powerful positions, such as coaches, medical professionals, and the ... I had been keeping a journal for a few weeks before this assignment began. For those who may not know a dialectic journal is when for a set number of days a person free writes for a set amount of time, and then for an equal number or days responds to what they wrote. My focus was supposed to be a tomato, but I quickly realized that the tomato was only there to begin the conversation.
