Kant s Philosophy Of The Metaphysics Of Morals Essay
Kant s Philosophy of How To Act In the second section of Kant s Groundwork of the Metaphysics of
Morals, Kant argues what is good will. He gives the answer to this question: good will is the one
which follows the categorical imperative to act only according to that maxim which you can at the
same time will that it becomes a universal law (4:421). Kant means good will is to follow the
categorical imperative, which only has one principle of acting following the maxim in the universal
law. He talks about what is the categorical imperative and how maxims become the universal law,
which is important in his philosophy. In fact, there is an objection towards Kant. Sometimes surviving
is more important than duties in categorical imperative in real life. However, since Kant believes
people should follow the duties in categorical imperative unconditionally in any situation, people
should never compromise even for the inclination of survival because the inclination is wrong. First, it
is necessary to fully understand this philosophy. Categorical imperative and how maxims become the
universal law are important components in his philosophy. In 4:414, Kant tells what is the categorical
imperative. He claims the categorical imperative would be that which represented an action as
objectively necessary of itself, without reference to another end. Kant means categorical imperative
represents the behavior, which is just for itself but not as the means to another ultimate goal. Before

While the majority of tea is sold through retail outlets, foodservice volume sales increased at a faster
rate in 2009, 7%, than retail volume sales, 5%. Small independent restaurants, which are present
throughout the country, particularly in rural areas, are the key sellers of foodservice tea.
Small independent restaurants that sell inexpensive food also sell loose tea. These restaurants are
widespread throughout Pakistan and are found in both rural and urban areas. Restaurants that target
middle and upper income groups generally sell packaged/branded tea. Lipton and Tapal are the key
brands which are used by foodservice channels. In addition to retail sales through restaurants, almost
all small and large grocery stores carry packaged tea as one of their main products. There are,
however, speciality tea shops in key areas that sell a large variety of loose tea.
The price of tea per kg increased by 43% to PKR408 in 2009. Black standard tea bags suffered the
highest price increases in 2009, jumping by 46%. Tea prices increased on a global scale in 2009, as a
result of poor harvests in Kenya, Sri Lanka and India, while the situation was exacerbated in Pakistan
due to its rupee losing value against the US dollar.
As Pakistani consumers become increasingly aware of Western trends and lifestyles they have been
drawn to fruit/herbal tea. Local producers have been quick to capitalise on

Reflection Paper On Field Work
Waiting to find out my internship placement, interviewing with my placement, and starting work has
been the most exciting part of my graduate education to date. I was placed with Walton County
Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) and started working with them in the last week
of September. The transition from the classroom to the field has been smooth with my classes having
equipped me for the field work I have already done and hopefully for the field work to come. While
the transition from classroom to field has been smooth, it has been drastically different working with
DFCS from reading in textbooks and class lectures. At my field placement, I have been able to interact
with clients and get to know them on a first name basis. Meeting real clients has been fascinating. Not
only do I get to learn about what is going on in their lives, I also get to learn about how they feel about
it, what they think about it, and see their expressions and emotions as they relay this information to
me. Face to face interaction with a client is unlike anything that can be gathered from a textbook. We
have textbooks that give scenarios and scripted interviews, but a book is never able to fully capture the
same experience as when you actually talk to a client. Even if a client s problem(s) may not be that
interesting I find it captivating to speak with someone and learn about what they are going through,
then to read about worst situation possible scenarios for clients in

Western Humanities Midterm Essay
Western Humanities Midterm Essay
During the course I realized how large of a role art plays in helping create cultures and developing and
preserving the history of civilizations. I find it interesting that when there s no written history or any
historical buildings, cultures will always make their own ancient past grander than what it really is.
The Israelites, the Greeks and Romans all tell stories of their history that has no written proof. It
seems that we as people want to have a connection to our roots and to understand where we come
from. This is why I believe that most people want to believe in a higher power.
I think that the timeline shows to some extent that art throughout history has been and still is the major

Until now, I didn t realize how much Islam influenced art and practically kick started science. I
learned that the Abbasid caliphs established the House of Wisdom, a center of leaning and science.
They gathered manuscripts in Greek and Sanskrit along with scholars who could understand and
translate them from the areas that they conquered.
The Abbasids were the first ones to study and translate important Greek and Indian mathematical book
like Euclid s geometry text the Elements. They adopted a very Greek approach to mathematics of
formulating theorems precisely and proving them formally in Euclid s ways.
Islamists wrote many influential books on mathematics of algebra that we still use today. One of the
books described how to write numbers in calculations using the place value decimal system which is
what we use today. This concept was developed in India in A.D. 600 s which was translated and
adopted by Arabic mathematicians. About 300 years later this book was translated into Latin and it
became the major source for European academics to learn the new system. This system is known as
the Hindu Arabic system which is taught to schoolchildren around the world. It s amazing that a
system of calculations was brought to Europe from practically the other side of the world. I wonder
how long it would have taken to figure out the same system without Muslim involvement.
I find it fascinating how almost a millennia ago

Equity Derivative Strategies
Joanne M. Hill Vice President, Equity Derivatives Goldman, Sachs Company
Understanding the tax implications of equity derivatives and the application of these instruments for
taxable U.S. clients is a challenge worth meeting. Equity derivatives can playa useful role in
implementing tax efficient strategies that maximize after tax returns. The key is to understand the
costs, benefits, and rules for applying each instrument or strategy and then to select the best
instrument to accomplish the investor s objectives and minimize the taxes.

First, the investor s holding period is either suspended or terminated, which is not necessarily a bad
thing if the investor already has long term capital gains. Second, and most troublesome, is the inability
to deduct losses to the extent that the investor has an unrecognized gain. Also, financing charges for
straddle positions are not deductible. Instead, for the investor in a straddle situation, the charges are
capitalized into the cost basis of the long position. Finally, corporations lose the 70 percent deduction
on all qualified dividends for stocks that are part of straddle positions. Only in a few circumstances
would a company want to do something that would constitute a straddle; corporations should
generally avoid straddles. Stock Option Transactions. The premium received or paid for stock option
transactions is considered a capital item. When a physically settled stock option is exercised or
unassigned, the cost basis or sale price can be adjusted by the premium received or paid. Stock
options, with the exception of listed index options, are generally not marked to market at year end for
tax purposes. The tax treatment of stock options depends on the time to expiration, the type of option,
and how it is exercised or assigned. Short dated options. Profits on short dated options are generally

Prince Myshkin Essay
Concepts such as compassion, thoughtfulness, and empathy are what people all over the world would
seemingly strive for. Often, however, these benevolent ideas of the way society should be, are
muddled and manipulated by the reality of the way society actually is. Prince Myshkin, a Russian man
who represents the essence of kindness and morality, is thrown into the high society of Petersburg, a
society that is obsessed with money, power and reputation. In his selfless attempts to save his
companions from their destructive evil , Prince Myshkin is in turn transformed and distorted by a
superficial and empty society. The title of the book, The Idiot, fits well with Prince Myshkin s attitude
towards human nature and also does well to highlight his status as an outcast; however The Idealist is
a title that would better suit the Prince s thought process and actions. Returning from Switzerland,
Prince Myshkin acquaints himself with his distant relations, the Epanchins and finds himself in a vain
and greedy society. Despite numerous warnings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

people around Myshkin assume that he is mentally incapable of understanding complex ideas or subtle
details, a prejudice that remains inveterate in their minds. By downgrading him to an idiot, Prince
Myshkin is isolated and brought into the light as an outcast. Since he is isolated and considered an
idiot, the contrast between Myshkin s character and the society is emphasized. Others use his illness as
a way to justify his strange behavior which is really just his compassion. Myshkin being an outcast
and being viewed as an idiot is essential to the philosophy behind the story. However, Prince Myshkin

Methodology and Models for Residential Self Selection
METHODOLGY AND MODELS FOR RESIDENTIAL SELF SELECTION: IMPACT ON TRAVEL
BEHAVIOR Introduction: Self selection in this context refers to the tendency of people to choose
locations based on their travel abilities, needs and preferences (Litman, 2005 p. 6). Sources for
Residential selection are: attitudes and social demographic traits. With residential to the latter, an
example of self selection is that low income and zero vehicle households may choose to live in
neighborhoods with ample transit service and hence use transit more. In this case, it is not good transit
facilities, but the households economic constraints that have a true and direct influence on their choice
of transit model. Today urbanization is increasing rapidly with global opportunities and economic
development of the country. So, there are more number of people are migrating from other areas to
Urban. The density of the population increases, but the infrastructure like transportation facilities have
not improved that much. Then there is a cause of Traffic congestion as well as increasing the fuel
consumption. Urban areas are developing very fast and sprawl all over the sub urban areas. Already
central areas of the cities are overcrowded, So, then the people are moving to suburban areas for
living. Then the term Residential Self selection plays an important role on the travel behavior of the
individual. Travel behavior of the person depends on the so many factors including the income level of

The Englewood Board Of Education Meeting
The Englewood Board of Education meeting took place at the Grieco Elementary School in
Englewood, NJ. On March 17, 2016 and began promptly at 6:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria. The board is
made up of nine board members all sitting at a long table with the President of the board, Mr. Devry
Pazant who sat at the center of the table beside the newly appointed Superintendent, Mr. Robert
Kravitz.
I think it is important to point out a little background information on the Englewood School Board. I
have attended several of the school board meetings over the past three years and have witnessed a lot
of bitterness and dissatisfaction among the board members and attendees. It stems from a history of
inequities in the school system and a separation of high school and an Academy program that appears
to receive a large operating budget and administrative support on the same campus. With that said
there are members on the board who have children in the Academy program who have a vested
interest in the success of the program over what is best for all the students who attend the high school
or the program.
The Board President called the meeting to order, and the board secretary did the roll call. The agenda
was comprised of various reports and the secretary would go though each agenda item, beginning with
the board secretary s report, finance, personnel, listing of approvals for salaries that included names of
staff/faculty, retirements, leave of absences, bills, travel, field trips, etc.

Essay on Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation
When a person plans or wants to do something, he or she has a motivation for that specific thing. In
other words, when a person does something, that person has a reason why he or she should do that
thing. Not always there is a reason to do something, but sometimes may be many reasons that are
backing a person to take those actions to do it. This happens not only to humans, or living organisms,
but also in nonliving organisms. An example is when a rock which had bounced after it hit the floor
while falling down. Scientists may tell some of the reasons why the rock does that kind of action, but
they cannot tell all of the reasons that back the rock s actions. A similar thing, as the scientists, was
Alfie Kohn trying to do in his essay, Why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason is that the reward is not the main thing that is backing up the action; but something else
that could be self develop, peace, etc. An example is a boy does his homework just because he was
told by his parents to do his homework. Based on that the boy believes that his parents know what is
best for him to do.
On the other hand, extrinsic motivation is when a person takes actions knowing that at the end of that
action there is a reward waiting for him or her. In this case, the person does it not because thinking
about self development, peace, etc. but about the reward. An example could be that the boy s mother
will not let the boy watch his favorite cartoons, until he finishes his homework. That way the boy will
finish his homework just to be able to watch the cartoons, but does not care if he fully understands the
materials on which the homework was about.
Third possibility is the both type of motivations, intrinsic and extrinsic, are the reason for someone s
action. It is when the person is doing something knowing there is going to be a reward at the end, also
during that action the person will develop in skills, professionalism, etc. The example could be taken
from the essay that Kohn wrote. The reward that Kohn could have got is being paid for writing the
essay, with the main back up that the action will bring development of experiences in writing
professionally. Another example could be a man runs in a burning building to save his neighbor s kid.
That man

The Controversial Issue Of Child Labor
Throughout the past decades, child labor has been a controversial issue. The term Child labor is
defined as work or employment done by the children against the national and international laws. Light
and limited work is not a part of the child labor. But heavy and over work in early age effect their
health and safety and their growth. It also deprived them of the education. Children used to work at
factories, fields, domestic work and the service sector in the 20th century. Poverty and the industrial
development increase the level of child labor. The causes of the child labor in todays have become
more complex and highly argued. The issue of child labor has been debated in the world since the 21st
century. In some cultures, the child labor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the child laborers do small jobs like polishing shoes, stocking shelves of stores, or cleaning.
But some of the child laborers are used in the informal sector such as street hustling, or selling stuff on
the streets, working at farms or in the agri business, or as domestic servants. This kind of laboring is
done illegally by hiding away from the inspectors that look for child labor violators. Throughout the
history of man and also in many cultures, children have been widely used in military campaigns even
when such practices were against the current cultural morals of that society (Child Labour Pros And
Cons)
Labor movements and different types of social activities likewise assumes a critical part in affecting
the reasoning of the people and their perspectives about the children and the child labor. Likewise, the
reduction and eradication of child labor is tied fundamentally to economics. The decrease of child
labor is attached essentially to economics. Perceiving child labor as a human rights issue that notions
of human respect are vital to all parts of a working child s life and to the methods by which child labor

Explain Why College Athletes Need To Change
The Treatment Of College Athletes Need To Change
The NCAA needs to protect the overall well being of the athletes because they are the bread and butter
of the school and NCAA s income. The NCAA needs to start paying the athletes, allow the athletes to
receive money from an outside source, provide a stable living environment for athletes who qualify,
provide the proper nutrients the athletes need in order to excel on the field, and the NCAA needs to
ban colleges from pulling the athletes scholarship after an injury. The athletes can t get decent jobs due
to their overload schedule, and the food proportion the athletes receive isn t nearly enough for their
bodies to be healthy and run properly. Many student athletes don t come from the best backgrounds,
which means financial support from the families aren t always there. Student Athletes attend big
colleges to get an education while playing a sport they enjoy. Regular college students have the
opportunity to get a job that pays decent because they have much more time on their hands, and
sometimes that isn t enough. Now imagine how hard it is for athletes who have to ... Show more

travel to the middle of Alabama just to attend school without the college sport atmosphere? When
people think about college, they think about that last second win against their rival school. The college
atmosphere is based of the competitive emotion on the field, and for not so gifted humans to cheer on

Factors Impacting Decision Making And Indecision
Factors Impacting Decision Making and Indecision
Amy Hines
University of Minnesota
Abstract
This is a discussion on the dynamics of decision making and indecision and their impacts. It offers an
overview in decision theory and its evolution through decision frameworks that have been analyzed
and developed to accommodate the ever changing individual and environment. This is a
comprehensive look at the underlying influences on the decision making process. It reaches the span
across different specialties from biological to personality. Within those areas it addresses a variety of
psychological processes, positive and negatives, through to career focused decision theories and
impacts on the individual. The important aspect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The aspects that will be discussed in the following will assess the background of decision theory,
frameworks of decision and action, factors that influence and difficulties when faced with the
indecisiveness. Understanding the decision making frameworks, factors such as genetic makeup,
personality, environmental and emotional impacts that influence our decisions will provide insight on
counseling strategies, preventative or institutional development.
The process an individual goes through to make a decision is a complicated one. Deciphering the
system one needs to look at where the theories started and how they evolved. The expected utility
theory (EU theory) otherwise known as the Decision Theory that is essentially weighing the options
and determine the maximum value (compensatory) under the assumption an individual is a rational
being. The possibility of loss can be compensated by a potential large gain (Busemeyer 2015). It
evolved to add inclusions for rank dependent utility (RDU) to compensate for the violation of the
independence axiom or rule that originated in the EU theory. The independence axiom or contingency
is best understood as the third option that is presented independent to the first two, but does not
influence the order of preference that was established prior to the introduction of the third

The Rescuer From Error And City Of God
Despite the fact that Ghazali in The Rescuer from Error is searching for certain knowledge but states
in a paradoxical manner that this may actually not be possible, he is the most persuasive author when
considering the knowledge of the divine alongside Plato in The Republic and Augustine in City of
God . Ghazali considers both belief and knowledge as necessary for knowledge of the divine while
Plato focuses solely on knowledge. On the other side, while Augustine does support the idea of a
rational soul, he refutes his own claim when considering the miracles of God. In this essay I will argue
that incorporating both knowledge and belief, Ghazali provides an approach in which humans gain the
most knowledge of the divine because knowledge based belief combines a necessary personal journey
and faith in the divine when human intellect can only go so far. I will outline this argument by looking
at what each author defines as knowledge of the divine, how he sees this divine affecting human life,
and why this argument is either persuasive or non persuasive using Ghazali as a base to refute and/or
support their claims. Ghazali establishes the divine as God Almighty who guides and allows truth to
lead (Ghazali 78). God does this through the prophet Muhammad who, among many things, is a
messenger (Ghazali 77). The message he is delivering is one from God to humankind; as an
intermediary, the prophet himself acts as the source of knowledge of the divine. Ghazali explores how

Management And Marketing Models Of Aravind Eye Hospital
Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai, India, was founded in 1976 with a goal to offer quality eye care at a
reasonable cost. Now as of 1992 there are three locations with a total of 1,224 beds and around
200,000 patients addressed per year. While these numbers are impressive relative to the starting point
of the organization, if they continue unchanged it would take approximately 100 years for Aravind to
clear the backlog of 20 million blind eyes currently in India, longer with approximately another 2
million blind eyes being added to that number each year. The sheer quantity is clearly is a problem for
Aravind to address its mission of eradicating needless blindness in India, and that is not even
accounting for any of the outstanding issues existing in the current operational, management and
marketing models of the organization. Aravind Eye Hospital has certainly made many achievements
since its formation, but further investigation on improvements and innovations must be made in order
for the organization to stay relevant to its mission moving into the future.
Aravind has many critical components that contribute to the success it has had so far in addressing the
organization s mission statement and creating social value. One of the key features is Dr.

kindness has the ability to make a difference in someone else s life.
Each target public will have a different key message aimed at them because no target public is or

1. NSW Primary and Secondary Schools → Every step counts
This key message demonstrates to the children that even the simplest of acts, such as a small donation,
is still important in raising awareness of social injustices. It allows these young children and teenagers
to realise that it is important to do whatever they can to others as it can make a different no matter how
big or small the gesture is.
2. Employees and CEOs of Major Corporations and Organisations → Walk 4 Others
This key message will symbolise the importance of not thinking of themselves and doing acts that

American Disability Research Paper
The population of people living with disabilities are underrepresented within the American society.
Importantly, legislation and the workforce have misguided the appropriate treatment of disabled
people throughout history. The poor treatment that has been represented could be in part of the lack of
understanding of what the definition of disability truly is. Over time, this comprehension of disability
has changed as citizenship was challenged countless times on the basis of disability (Baynton 33).
From the year 1960, there have been numerous historical movements pleading for equality in the
United States. Unfortunately, the the population of people who live with disabilities have been majorly
excluded from these until the American Disabilities

The Novel The Spirit Level I Came Into Inequality
While reading The Spirit Level I came into conclusion that the inequality in developed countries is
great threat to society as a whole. The major issues that are brought up in the book are the inequality
between the rich and the poor in developed countries but also the comparison between developing
countries. The book dives into several factors that are the effects of the inequality ranging from
obesity, teenage birth, life expectancy etc.... I would discuss in depth on each of these factors and how
they all are key components in society and how they add to the inequality in developed countries. One
of the first factors the book brings up is the issue of trust and how it is a main factor in society, trust is
what keeps us from not turning on each other and seeing others as cooperative rather than competitive.
According to the book trust has fallen from a high 60 percent from 1960 to a low of less than 40
percent in 2004 , this facts gives insight into the society we are living in now. When I read this, I could
only think of the mindset many people have now, job security is tight and that everyone is seen as
competition. I for one living in America I always have a sense that everyone wants to be on top, and
they are willing to do everything to get the job or position, instead of trying to change the way of
selfishness, we are adding to it, especially with social media. Social media has it pros but it has very
damaging cons, ideas of self worth and values are being shoved

Turning Point Of The American Revolution
Overall, the American Revolution is not a massive turning point in our history socially. It did not make
any major changes to the social structure, how people were treated, and local laws. It only really
exacerbated issues that were inevitable to change, such as voting rights and african american s rights.
The only real change was the new political system. The American Revolution was a turning point in
our history, but not one that should be blown out of proportion as many current day people have.
Most of the people in America before the revolution had no reason to revolt. In fact, nearly ⅔ of all
colonists were either neutral or against going to war with England. They had no reason to escape
England s bond. The only people who were set to gain anything from the revolution was the elites and
the wealthy of the time. In fact, most of those whom were loyal to the Revolution either kept or gained
great swathes of land, as Lord Fairfax had (84). Also, most of the wealthy would buy in so to say by
purchasing government bonds that would exponentially grow value as the nation would grow in the
future. Not only for these reasons did the wealthy prosper. They were also promised a head at the table
when forming the new nation. As Zinn points out on page 90, the rich were in a position to start
writing business friendly laws that would benefit them. The American Revolution is usually seen as a
revolution of the people, but it is quite obvious that it was simply an orchestrated coup

Mechanisms Of Logistic Growth In Relation To Locust Swarms
Exponential Growth is shaped in a J form, this type of growth curve occurs when supplies and
materials to a specific population are abundant. Since usually environments are not idealized and
resources are limited, exponential growth curve doesn t occur as much as a logistic growth curve.
Logistic growth is a type of growth curve,in a S form, that occurs more often in an environment. Since
each environment has a carrying capacity, which is the number of individuals from a population an
environment can hold, the logistic growth is the most logical way to represent a population size over
time. An example of a population size that could be represented by an exponential growth curve are
mice. Since mice reproduce many offspring at the time of reproduction the population size will
exponentially grow, however since mice also have a high predation rate the exponential curve starts
rapidly decreasing over a period of time. An example of a population size that could be represented by
a logistic growth curve are lions. Usually when lions reproduce only a few offspring are created.
However, once an environment reaches its carrying capacity, the population size decreases as the
environment can t sustain the entire population and the fittest survive.
2) The two mechanisms of density dependent regulation that most directly relate to locust swarms is
predation and competition for resources. Locust swarms are animals that have many animals feeding
on them such as ant lions. If the

The Pros And Cons Of Rescission In Scottish Law
In Scots law, there are generally two available self help remedies for material breach: retention and
rescission. Retention is the suspension of the innocent party s obligations (MacQueen, 2010) while
rescission is the termination of the contract for fundamental non performance; it is a remedy used to
bring a contract to an end so the party is no longer bound to carry out its obligations (Scottish Law
Commission, 2017).
The default position for termination of a contract is for the breach to be material (Turnbull v MacLean
Co, 1873). Without contractual expressions, the term material represents a situation in which the
debtor s activity undermines the basic purpose of the contract to such an extent as to justify bringing
the contract to an end (Scottish Law Commission, 2017). Turning a non material breach to a material
breach can be done through an ultimatum procedure or a summary declaratory procedure (McBryde,
The Scots Law of Breach of Contract: A Mixed System in Operation, 2010).
However, contracting parties can also treat breach as material when expressly provided, even if
objectively the effect of that breach is unimportant. This is interpreted in Wade v Waldon, where the
Lord President sets the criteria for rescission as a matter about the terms of the contract whether
stipulations go to the root of the contract , than the breach itself (Wade v Waldon, 1909 ).
This interpretation illustrates the first problem of the term material when justifying

Alice Walker Beauty
Achieving Beauty
In Alice Walker s Beauty When the Other Dancer is the self , Walker comes to terms with her
childhood accident through examples of gender power, racial discrimination, and selfish violence.
Alice Walker has three main memories she recalls inside and explains in the essay. The first being her
connection and relationship with her father and her family. Her accident involves her brothers
shooting her in the eye using new BB guns given by the parents. There is a tree growing from
underneath the porch that climbs past the railing to the roof. It is the last thing my right eye sees. As
her father rushes to call a car to get his daughter to the hospital, a white man stops ... Show more

I abuse my eye. I rant and rave at it, in front of the mirror. I plead with it to clear up before morning
(Walker 30 33). After being shot in the eye, Walker cannot determine that the incident was an accident
or done deliberately in order to damage her physical looks so her father would not pick her anymore.
She went through a surgery to improve the appearance of her eye that she started to find self courage
and acceptance. When Walker feels beautiful once more, and her view upon life improves
dramatically in almost every aspect: Give examples. Alice begins to keep her head held high, she
starts to talk more and attains the boyfriend of her dreams, she excels in school once more and
generally feels more self confident. I feel that beauty has this universal definition to society and the
expectation that it must be met to achieve internal and external happiness. Society has a stereotype of
beauty itself. Society believes that beauty has a universal definition which every person experiences.
What Walker is trying to put forward is that beauty can come in different forms and meanings. Walker
pursues the societal norm that different configurations of beauty must be achieved to attain internal
and external happiness. These including the need to feel welcomed by others, the need to experience
true happiness and feel needed, the need to feel self worthy and loved, and the aspiration to feel
confident in one s skin. This is what Alice Walker faces and it is this misconception she experiences
throughout her life and defies

Putting a 21st Century Twist on the Past
In this essay I will argue that my practice is contemporary by showing 21st century influences. I will
do this by discussion of themes and practices of other artists that I am interested in, evaluating the
issues they address. In particular Francis Alys, George Shaw and Social Realism.
I first realised my interest in manual labour, menial jobs and cycle of working, when I was travelling,
and this influenced my work. Whilst visiting the Yves Saint Laurent gardens in Marrakech there was
an employee of the gardens sweeping the flower petals into his grasp, whilst more constantly fell. This
time consuming action initially interested me as absurd, however after further dwelling I considered
the action more of a metaphor for the idea of working ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From taking the outsider role he was able to see situations differently than if he was part of them. I
feel the same within my practice; I am a keen observer of people and always find my most inspired
and passionate ideas originate from just watching a situation. In Placing Pillows Alys uses his role of
observer to his advantage. He can see the lack of repair and action after the 1985 Mexico City
earthquake. He reacts to by placing pillows within the broken windows. He is able to use such a
simple thing that becomes such a strong and political statement.
In the world today we are subjected to roles and expectations, we are all expected to mature and earn a
living, when this doesn t happen it is frowned upon. For example not having a career or a consistent
income is thought to be out of the ordinary almost not conforming lesser you as a person. An
enthusiast for symbols and allegories, Alyss casts the world in a lighthearted way where it is easy for
the audience to appreciate what is being said. Paradox of Praxis 1 (Sometimes Doing Something

Abortion Should Be Restricted
The number of abortions today is almost 1.5 million a year, which is about 30% of all pregnancies
(McConnell). Too many women are getting abortions as a means of birth control. The Supreme Court
needs to restrict abortions to women who have been raped, been victims of incest, if the child will die
at a young age, or if the woman s health is in danger. By reading this paper, the reader will gain an
understanding of why abortions need to be restricted. Although abortions are necessary they need to
be limited. Too many women are getting abortions as a way of birth control. In 1967 Colorado and
California legalized abortion. By June, 1970, when the State of New York passed the first Abortion on

The fact that her baby was conceived by a means of rape or incest would haunt her for the rest of her
life. Furthermore, what are incest victims supposed to do once they give birth? She would, potentially,
have to see the man who impregnated her, almost, on a daily basis, at least until she s old enough to
move out of the house. Even then, she may still have to see her dad, or her uncle, or whoever the
assailant was, in the future. Incest pregnancies are not common, but they do happen hundreds of times
a year in the United States, and therefore they are something that need to be recognized by the media

of certain diseases can be obtained as early as ten weeks. The parents with a disease stricken baby
usually wish to spare the baby a life of hardship rather then prolonging the child s ill fated life. If the

that certain disorders are so serious that there is no point attempting to prolong the child s life

The Synonyms Of Perseverance
Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th. This quote means that you are not always
gonna succeed on the first try, but if you really want to succeed, you have to work past your failures
and keep working until you can reach your goal. Perseverance. The dictionary defines perseverance as
¨steady persistence in a course of action, purpose, or state, especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles,
or discouragement¨. Synonyms of perseverance are ¨steadfastness¨, ¨persistence¨, and ¨pertinacity¨.
Antonyms of perseverance are ¨cowardice¨, ¨lethargy¨, and ¨apathy¨. Perseverance is important
because you are going to run into difficulties or obstacles in your lifetime. You have to be able to push
through the difficulties and obstacles to be able to move on and continue with your life. An athlete has

Rising Strong Sparknotes
Book Assignment As I read Rising Strong by Brene Brown it really hit home with me. In her book she
talks about something most people do not like to deal with, which is shame and being vulnerable. We
all feel shame no matter who we are. Some people take it better than others do. Some people take their
shame and burry it deep down inside them and others takes their shame and makes great success
stories out of it. Brene Brown talks about how much she struggled with being vulnerable and how she
dealt with it. She starts off her book with a long presentation of her book and how we can approach
shame. She enlightens us that Rising Strong is regarding getting to the heart of the most excruciating
and uncomfortable minutes we ve ever experienced, getting genuine about the path in which those
moments have made us feel and being sufficiently striking to consider ourselves responsible to get up
and develop from the past as we move into what more there is to come. She likewise focuses on that
yes, most definitely, disappointment is excruciating, exceptionally difficult. Tragically be that as it
may, the stories of battle to achievement that we re so regularly told do more than see their way
through the pain and make their way to be success stories. Brown states that all we need are, a critical
mass of bad asses who are willing to dare, fall, feel their way through tough emotion, and rise again

Alzheimer’s Disease Essay

Neurons are the areas of the brain that allow for chemical messages, or neurotransmitters, to be

neuronS ultimately die. Alzheimer s is a form of, and the most common cause of, dementia, or loss of
intellectual capacity and personality. ( Dementia. ) Alzheimer s disease, or AD, is not a normal part of

Although these formations are the hallmarks of this disease, it is still unclear to scientist whether these
are the cause or effect (byproduct) of AD. ( Alzheimer s Disease ) To reiterate, symptoms of AD were
always present, but were never recognized or coined until 1907. Before Alzheimer s big break
through, the majority of the community correlated dementia and age as a natural. The connotation of
the term senile implied old age or progression of age. It wasn t until the late 1970s where neurological
studies boomed and credited Alzheimer s as an accepted disease. Later as a result, the Alzheimer s
Association was created in 1985. (Reger 2) This gradually perpetuated further understanding of this
disorder that is still being continued today. Although research has not shown any definitive causes of
AD, there are significant risk factors. The most highly prominent known risk factor for AD is in fact
age. Age plays a crucial role in determining the severity of ones AD and is distinguished by two types:
early onset (Familial Alzheimer s disease or FAD) and late onset (Sporadic AD). FAD rarely appears
and follows an obvious inheritance pattern. Statistically less than ten percent are classified as FAD.

Realism In Desire Under The Elms
Realism in Literature means portraying life with fidelity. As Harry Shaw says,
It is a style of writing in which familiar ordinary aspects of life are depicted in a matter of fact straight
forward manner designed to reflect life as it actually is
Realism in drama is to depict life as it actually is. Realism is a revolt against romanticism in which the
tendency is to idealize life and situations. So far as O Neil was concerned, he was dissatisfied with the
romantic and unreal situations. He wanted to show living pulsating human beings. O Neil s early plays
were a blend of realism and romanticism. But he is not averse to using melodrama in his plays
colorless and monotonous. So in Mourning Becomes Electra, he shows Orin shooting Brant, Christine
shooting herself, Orin shooting himself out of guilt complex and Lavinia dramatically entering the
haunted house and the life of life long seclusion. These melodramatic situations add color to the drab
realities which might become uninteresting. The most significant element of O Neil s ... Show more

an old farmer marrying a young wife; and the crime that takes place as a result of this is so common

complex that lead to tragic results. Normally a tragedy idealizes life; and realism of the characters,
that is so convincing. The themes of O Neil s plays show a minute observation of men, manners and
situations. He thus gives us a realistic picture of life. His plays like Beyond the Horizon , Anna
Christie , The Straw etc. are full of realistic situations. Similarly, the settings of his plays are realistic.
Each detail of the scene is given realistically and the background is also realistic. In Mourning

Lord Of The Flies Identity Analysis
Philosophers from ancient Greece and Rome to modern scholars have contemplated what defines one
s identity. Everyone is a product of both their heredity and environment, and this is demonstrated in
modern texts and podcasts. Individuals have limited control on their environment, actions of others,
and genetics; however, memories and experiences influences how people behave and act. When
people are placed into a situation everyone responds in their own way, and one s past is a crucial part
of how an individual will respond in in new environment. For example, in Lord of the Flies, young
boys are placed on an island, and some choose to be assertive while others are passive. Anyone could
have risen up and take charge, despite this, only Ralph and Jack decide to stand up as leaders. These
two boys stood up, due their experiences in their past environments. Ralph has a father who is a naval
officer who most likely taught him strong leadership qualities.People are born into families that
establish principles and beliefs .For Jack, he is self entitled since he was the head choir boy because of
being gifted with a singing voice. People s past and abilities are able to form one s identity. Memories
and experiences are what make each individual unique and have their own identity. Ultimately human
nature will take control an individual s identity, and negative attributes will show though anyone s
personality. Additionally, In Lord of the Flies, all the boys lose their sanity and

Ancient Religion Vs Modern Culture
There are similarities in how the ancient and modern cultures view the heavens despite there being
many more differences. Like modern culture, ancient culture understood the earth to be approximately
spherical. About 2,500 years ago, Anaxagoras and Empedocles proposed justifications for the
spherical nature of Earth. When Earth is between the moon and the sun, during a lunar eclipse, they
recognized Earth s shadow on the moon. The shadow that moves across the moon is clearly round
which suggests that Earth is a sphere. Another similarity is the use of time in making astronomical
observations. The Mesopotamians measured time using waterclocks to quantify the passage of time,

Vibraphon s Influence On Jazz Music
1. I think the biggest element that made this song unique is the use of counterpoint. Counterpoint is
the use of two or more melodic lines of equal importance. During the course of the song, no one
melody sounds like the main melody, and are all of the same significance. I think this would have
upset many of the jazz purists, as it was such a change from traditional jazz music.
2. A vibraphone is a instrument with resonator tubes suspended below aluminum bars to create a
natural reverberation of the sound. Lionel Hampton was one of the first jazz performers to play this
instrument. I believe the vibraphone solo starts at 1:09 and lasts till about 1:50, most prominently and
again from 2:15 to 3:00.

From the pipelines that I looked at the most economically and politically viable would be the keystone
pipeline. This is because the United States of America and Canada are very close to each other, which
creates less distance for the pipe to travel through, nor does it need to be built to withstand an
underwater tunnel, such as the Poseidon Pipeline and the Nabucco pipeline. This means that the
pipeline costs less to build, as less piping must be built, and it does not need any special materials:

Title:
BIODEGRADATION OF PESTICIDES IN SOIL ENVIRONMENT
Introduction:
Wise use and preservation of the soil recourses of a country can transform a poor society into a
prosperous one (Miller and Donahue 1992)
Agriculture is a key sector in the world economy where the competition between the countries is of
great importance in terms of the production. It also contributes about 25% of GDP of Pakistan and
provides livelihood directly to 70% of its rural population. In these conditions, pesticides are
commonly used to reach a definite quantity and quality of agricultural productions. Their generalised
use is attributed to (i) increase the quantitative and qualitative yields (ii) limit the irregularities of crop
production linked to the great parasitic catastrophe (iii) protect the food reserves and many more. It
has been estimated that about 3000 5000 tones of pesticides are used predominately only in Cotton

functions like decomposition of organic matter, release of certain enzymes and plant growth

The liquefied gas dropped into the sewer lines, mixed with air and sewer gas, and consequently
ignited. A series of fires and explosions killed 130 people in Cleveland, Ohio. The catastrophe event
made a significant impact on the natural gas industry, that started to store the tanks below ground
(Engineering Disasters, 2017, p. 1). Again, it is obvious the lesson learned here but that doesn t take
away from how important it is. The lesson was to store such gas below ground and to make
calculations for the unexpected. The sixth in this series was the Hyatt Regency Hotel Walkway
Collapse of 1981. On July 17, 1981, two vertically walkways collapsed at the Hyatt Regency in
Kansas City, falling into the hotel s lobby. 114 people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On January 28, 1986 the NASA Space Shuttle Challenger broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, killing
all 7 astronauts on board. The investigation showed aerodynamics forces broke the shuttle apart, after
a structural failure that began with a specific gasket that failed at the very liftoff. The entire event was
broadcast live on TV (Engineering Disasters, 2017, p. 1). This disaster occurred after a gasket failure
in an attempt to rush a launch date by the administration. Refusing the request of an administration
figure due to a danger is one of the most difficult situations an engineer can be placed in because it can
jeopardize their job and as a result, their family is affected. Well it is one of the hardest situations it is
one of the most important to speak up and make sure your option is not only heard but is documented
as well because if it isn t then it shall be your engineering license on the line and without that and a
bad reputation your career life is pretty much

How I Met The Meta Cognition Knowledge Outcome
To: Professor Gillespie From: Matthew Carrano Date: April 28, 2017 Subject: Writing 220
I am writing this memo to illustrate how I met the meta cognition knowledge outcome. I will evaluate
all of my papers by assessing how I fixed my work, and what I did to improve them. I will be taking
specific elements out of my papers and reflecting upon them by looking for content elements and my
application of delivery skills.
Meta Cognition Outcome: Doc 1 and Doc 2
I met the meta cognition knowledge outcome by the topics of the first two documents. One way I
achieved this outcome was by addressing the topic s audience through your feedback. To change my
audience error, I went back to see your comment, apostrophe needed but not the informality. ... Show

By including the word slippery slope more in my paper, I was able to give you a better understanding
of what fallacy I was identifying and explaining.
I met the meta cognition outcome by understanding the following content elements in the first two
documents:
Generalized Fallacy ex. I do not explain a generalize fallacy well because you write this point s not
quite clear why dies our generalize the capital? I need to explain why our can be classified as a fallacy.
In your doc 1 description, you say, look for personal pronouns, a general group (Gillespie 1). I
corrected Trump s fallacy by incorporating the definition you provided us to clarified the use of a
generalized fallacy.
Faulty Emotional Appeal Fallacy ex. To change my faulty emotional appeal explanation, I looked at
your comment, this sentence offers broad info and is it even true? I needed to change my sentence
around because it sounds informal, and I did not explain the fallacy well. A Faulty emotional appeal
can be defined as an assertion, emotional appeal, nowhere is there any evidence presented (Brinton). I
corrected my error by explaining how Trump s faulty emotional appeal evoked emotion and presented
no evidence.
List ex. I incorrectly introduced a quote when you said, works better to put the colon here and delete
the following words hear the improvement. I listened to your advice and deleted information I did not
need. As a result, I was

Bias In The Media Bias
There are many different hidden truths in the media that people do not know about due to the fact that
the media emphasizes on just one particular point of view. Throughout the years, people have been
biased in the media and the reason as to why this happens is that people choose to lean on one side
such as republican, democrat, libertarian, or conservative. To be biased means to only be on one side
of an argument or situation and only favor more of what one person has to say. There are a variety of
different news channels in which they all tend to lean more on one side, there is not a single news
channel that is on the same side as another. There are many current events that have multiple
contentious between other news channels. The viewers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether it is news channels on the television or whether it is Twitter and Facebook news, the public
will always have a way to find out current reports. Since society has become so dependent on
technology, a greater amount of individuals get their actual news online and especially through social
media. As many of the public know, you cannot trust what people online are saying. Since individuals
are so accustomed to getting the news online, many of them tend to believe what they just happen to
scroll across on Twitter and Facebook or any other sort of social media. Finding actual facts and truths
on the news have become so difficult now, due to all of the millions of different sites and places where
we can get our news from. The news online tend to be biased and untrue due to how openly and freely
individuals can create their own site and reports on current events such as a real news channels would.
Social media has just made it more complicated to find the actual accuracy of current events but with
enough research, dedication, and using the SMELL test, finding the right information would not be as

with Ottawa especially over the relative share of taxes taken by the federal and provincial government.
During Diefenbaker and then Pearson administration, the federal government made considerable
concessions to the provinces mainly to conciliate Quebec. The provinces received sixteen percent of
the income, corporation, and succession taxes gather by the federal government in late fifties. More
importantly, the Pearson g yielded to the constant demand of Lesage and Levesque for the right of
provinces to opt out of shared cost program in which the federal government paid a percentage of the
costs incurred by a province that agreed to establish a particular program in line with principles laid
out by the federal government .
Although Quebec government won a substantial autonomy as result of its negotiation with Ottawa,
nationalists saw the cooperation with the federal government is humiliating for Quebec to go to
Ottawa seeking favours. While federalists supported opting out and federal tax concessions, reveals

Pathogen research
After the introduction of the pathogen, it was clear that various non pathogens could cause harm to
people. The concept of the pathogen was initially was referred to microbe causing the disease.
Scientists have involved themselves in research to critical understand the properties of fungi, bacteria,
parasites and viruses that were able to make people become ill. During the research, there were
seminal discoveries that were able to be got (Casadevall and Pirofski). These included various roles of

  • 2. Kant s Philosophy Of The Metaphysics Of Morals Essay Kant s Philosophy of How To Act In the second section of Kant s Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals, Kant argues what is good will. He gives the answer to this question: good will is the one which follows the categorical imperative to act only according to that maxim which you can at the same time will that it becomes a universal law (4:421). Kant means good will is to follow the categorical imperative, which only has one principle of acting following the maxim in the universal law. He talks about what is the categorical imperative and how maxims become the universal law, which is important in his philosophy. In fact, there is an objection towards Kant. Sometimes surviving is more important than duties in categorical imperative in real life. However, since Kant believes people should follow the duties in categorical imperative unconditionally in any situation, people should never compromise even for the inclination of survival because the inclination is wrong. First, it is necessary to fully understand this philosophy. Categorical imperative and how maxims become the universal law are important components in his philosophy. In 4:414, Kant tells what is the categorical imperative. He claims the categorical imperative would be that which represented an action as objectively necessary of itself, without reference to another end. Kant means categorical imperative represents the behavior, which is just for itself but not as the means to another ultimate goal. Before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Reflection Paper On Field Work Waiting to find out my internship placement, interviewing with my placement, and starting work has been the most exciting part of my graduate education to date. I was placed with Walton County Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) and started working with them in the last week of September. The transition from the classroom to the field has been smooth with my classes having equipped me for the field work I have already done and hopefully for the field work to come. While the transition from classroom to field has been smooth, it has been drastically different working with DFCS from reading in textbooks and class lectures. At my field placement, I have been able to interact with clients and get to know them on a first name basis. Meeting real clients has been fascinating. Not only do I get to learn about what is going on in their lives, I also get to learn about how they feel about it, what they think about it, and see their expressions and emotions as they relay this information to me. Face to face interaction with a client is unlike anything that can be gathered from a textbook. We have textbooks that give scenarios and scripted interviews, but a book is never able to fully capture the same experience as when you actually talk to a client. Even if a client s problem(s) may not be that interesting I find it captivating to speak with someone and learn about what they are going through, then to read about worst situation possible scenarios for clients in ... Western Humanities Midterm Essay Western Humanities Midterm Essay During the course I realized how large of a role art plays in helping create cultures and developing and preserving the history of civilizations. I find it interesting that when there s no written history or any historical buildings, cultures will always make their own ancient past grander than what it really is. The Israelites, the Greeks and Romans all tell stories of their history that has no written proof. It seems that we as people want to have a connection to our roots and to understand where we come from. This is why I believe that most people want to believe in a higher power. Until now, I didn t realize how much Islam influenced art and practically kick started science. I learned that the Abbasid caliphs established the House of Wisdom, a center of leaning and science. They gathered manuscripts in Greek and Sanskrit along with scholars who could understand and translate them from the areas that they conquered. The Abbasids were the first ones to study and translate important Greek and Indian mathematical book like Euclid s geometry text the Elements. They adopted a very Greek approach to mathematics of formulating theorems precisely and proving them formally in Euclid s ways. Islamists wrote many influential books on mathematics of algebra that we still use today. One of the books described how to write numbers in calculations using the place value decimal system which is what we use today. This concept was developed in India in A.D. 600 s which was translated and adopted by Arabic mathematicians. About 300 years later this book was translated into Latin and it became the major source for European academics to learn the new system. This system is known as the Hindu Arabic system which is taught to schoolchildren around the world. It s amazing that a system of calculations was brought to Europe from practically the other side of the world. I wonder how long it would have taken to figure out the same system without Muslim involvement. I find it fascinating how almost a millennia ago ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Often, however, these benevolent ideas of the way society should be, are muddled and manipulated by the reality of the way society actually is. Prince Myshkin, a Russian man who represents the essence of kindness and morality, is thrown into the high society of Petersburg, a society that is obsessed with money, power and reputation. In his selfless attempts to save his companions from their destructive evil , Prince Myshkin is in turn transformed and distorted by a superficial and empty society. The title of the book, The Idiot, fits well with Prince Myshkin s attitude towards human nature and also does well to highlight his status as an outcast; however The Idealist is a title that would better suit the Prince s thought process and actions. Methodology and Models for Residential Self Selection METHODOLGY AND MODELS FOR RESIDENTIAL SELF SELECTION: IMPACT ON TRAVEL BEHAVIOR Introduction: Self selection in this context refers to the tendency of people to choose locations based on their travel abilities, needs and preferences (Litman, 2005 p. 6). The board is made up of nine board members all sitting at a long table with the President of the board, Mr. Devry Pazant who sat at the center of the table beside the newly appointed Superintendent, Mr. Robert Kravitz. I think it is important to point out a little background information on the Englewood School Board. I have attended several of the school board meetings over the past three years and have witnessed a lot of bitterness and dissatisfaction among the board members and attendees. It stems from a history of inequities in the school system and a separation of high school and an Academy program that appears to receive a large operating budget and administrative support on the same campus. With that said there are members on the board who have children in the Academy program who have a vested interest in the success of the program over what is best for all the students who attend the high school or the program. The Board President called the meeting to order, and the board secretary did the roll call. The agenda was comprised of various reports and the secretary would go though each agenda item, beginning with the board secretary s report, finance, personnel, listing of approvals for salaries that included names of staff/faculty, retirements, leave of absences, bills, travel, field trips, etc. ... • 11. Essay on Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation When a person plans or wants to do something, he or she has a motivation for that specific thing. In other words, when a person does something, that person has a reason why he or she should do that thing. Not always there is a reason to do something, but sometimes may be many reasons that are backing a person to take those actions to do it. This happens not only to humans, or living organisms, but also in nonliving organisms. An example is when a rock which had bounced after it hit the floor while falling down. Scientists may tell some of the reasons why the rock does that kind of action, but they cannot tell all of the reasons that back the rock s actions. The reason is that the reward is not the main thing that is backing up the action; but something else that could be self develop, peace, etc. An example is a boy does his homework just because he was told by his parents to do his homework. Based on that the boy believes that his parents know what is best for him to do. On the other hand, extrinsic motivation is when a person takes actions knowing that at the end of that action there is a reward waiting for him or her. In this case, the person does it not because thinking about self development, peace, etc. but about the reward. An example could be that the boy s mother will not let the boy watch his favorite cartoons, until he finishes his homework. That way the boy will finish his homework just to be able to watch the cartoons, but does not care if he fully understands the materials on which the homework was about. Third possibility is the both type of motivations, intrinsic and extrinsic, are the reason for someone s action. It is when the person is doing something knowing there is going to be a reward at the end, also during that action the person will develop in skills, professionalism, etc. The example could be taken from the essay that Kohn wrote. The reward that Kohn could have got is being paid for writing the essay, with the main back up that the action will bring development of experiences in writing professionally. • 18. The Rescuer From Error And City Of God Despite the fact that Ghazali in The Rescuer from Error is searching for certain knowledge but states in a paradoxical manner that this may actually not be possible, he is the most persuasive author when considering the knowledge of the divine alongside Plato in The Republic and Augustine in City of God . Ghazali considers both belief and knowledge as necessary for knowledge of the divine while Plato focuses solely on knowledge. On the other side, while Augustine does support the idea of a rational soul, he refutes his own claim when considering the miracles of God. In this essay I will argue that incorporating both knowledge and belief, Ghazali provides an approach in which humans gain the most knowledge of the divine because knowledge based belief combines a necessary personal journey and faith in the divine when human intellect can only go so far. I will outline this argument by looking at what each author defines as knowledge of the divine, how he sees this divine affecting human life, and why this argument is either persuasive or non persuasive using Ghazali as a base to refute and/or support their claims. Ghazali establishes the divine as God Almighty who guides and allows truth to lead (Ghazali 78). God does this through the prophet Muhammad who, among many things, is a messenger (Ghazali 77). The message he is delivering is one from God to humankind; as an intermediary, the prophet himself acts as the source of knowledge of the divine. Ghazali explores how ... It allows these young children and teenagers to realise that it is important to do whatever they can to others as it can make a different no matter how big or small the gesture is. 2. Importantly, legislation and the workforce have misguided the appropriate treatment of disabled people throughout history. The poor treatment that has been represented could be in part of the lack of understanding of what the definition of disability truly is. Over time, this comprehension of disability has changed as citizenship was challenged countless times on the basis of disability (Baynton 33). From the year 1960, there have been numerous historical movements pleading for equality in the United States. • 22. The Novel The Spirit Level I Came Into Inequality While reading The Spirit Level I came into conclusion that the inequality in developed countries is great threat to society as a whole. The major issues that are brought up in the book are the inequality between the rich and the poor in developed countries but also the comparison between developing countries. The book dives into several factors that are the effects of the inequality ranging from obesity, teenage birth, life expectancy etc.... I would discuss in depth on each of these factors and how they all are key components in society and how they add to the inequality in developed countries. One of the first factors the book brings up is the issue of trust and how it is a main factor in society, trust is what keeps us from not turning on each other and seeing others as cooperative rather than competitive. According to the book trust has fallen from a high 60 percent from 1960 to a low of less than 40 percent in 2004 , this facts gives insight into the society we are living in now. When I read this, I could only think of the mindset many people have now, job security is tight and that everyone is seen as competition. I for one living in America I always have a sense that everyone wants to be on top, and they are willing to do everything to get the job or position, instead of trying to change the way of selfishness, we are adding to it, especially with social media. • 23. Turning Point Of The American Revolution Overall, the American Revolution is not a massive turning point in our history socially. It did not make any major changes to the social structure, how people were treated, and local laws. It only really exacerbated issues that were inevitable to change, such as voting rights and african american s rights. The only real change was the new political system. The American Revolution was a turning point in our history, but not one that should be blown out of proportion as many current day people have. Most of the people in America before the revolution had no reason to revolt. In fact, nearly ⅔ of all colonists were either neutral or against going to war with England. They had no reason to escape England s bond. The only people who were set to gain anything from the revolution was the elites and the wealthy of the time. In fact, most of those whom were loyal to the Revolution either kept or gained great swathes of land, as Lord Fairfax had (84). Also, most of the wealthy would buy in so to say by purchasing government bonds that would exponentially grow value as the nation would grow in the future. Not only for these reasons did the wealthy prosper. They were also promised a head at the table when forming the new nation. As Zinn points out on page 90, the rich were in a position to start writing business friendly laws that would benefit them. • 24. Mechanisms Of Logistic Growth In Relation To Locust Swarms Exponential Growth is shaped in a J form, this type of growth curve occurs when supplies and materials to a specific population are abundant. Since usually environments are not idealized and resources are limited, exponential growth curve doesn t occur as much as a logistic growth curve. Logistic growth is a type of growth curve,in a S form, that occurs more often in an environment. Since each environment has a carrying capacity, which is the number of individuals from a population an environment can hold, the logistic growth is the most logical way to represent a population size over time. An example of a population size that could be represented by an exponential growth curve are mice. Since mice reproduce many offspring at the time of reproduction the population size will exponentially grow, however since mice also have a high predation rate the exponential curve starts rapidly decreasing over a period of time. An example of a population size that could be represented by a logistic growth curve are lions. Usually when lions reproduce only a few offspring are created. However, once an environment reaches its carrying capacity, the population size decreases as the environment can t sustain the entire population and the fittest survive. 2) The two mechanisms of density dependent regulation that most directly relate to locust swarms is predation and competition for resources. Locust swarms are animals that have many animals feeding on them such as ant lions. If the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. The Pros And Cons Of Rescission In Scottish Law In Scots law, there are generally two available self help remedies for material breach: retention and rescission. Retention is the suspension of the innocent party s obligations (MacQueen, 2010) while rescission is the termination of the contract for fundamental non performance; it is a remedy used to bring a contract to an end so the party is no longer bound to carry out its obligations (Scottish Law Commission, 2017). The default position for termination of a contract is for the breach to be material (Turnbull v MacLean Co, 1873). Without contractual expressions, the term material represents a situation in which the debtor s activity undermines the basic purpose of the contract to such an extent as to justify bringing the contract to an end (Scottish Law Commission, 2017). Turning a non material breach to a material breach can be done through an ultimatum procedure or a summary declaratory procedure (McBryde, The Scots Law of Breach of Contract: A Mixed System in Operation, 2010). However, contracting parties can also treat breach as material when expressly provided, even if objectively the effect of that breach is unimportant. This is interpreted in Wade v Waldon, where the Lord President sets the criteria for rescission as a matter about the terms of the contract whether stipulations go to the root of the contract , than the breach itself (Wade v Waldon, 1909 ). This interpretation illustrates the first problem of the term material when justifying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In her book she talks about something most people do not like to deal with, which is shame and being vulnerable. We all feel shame no matter who we are. Some people take it better than others do. Some people take their shame and burry it deep down inside them and others takes their shame and makes great success stories out of it. Brene Brown talks about how much she struggled with being vulnerable and how she dealt with it. She starts off her book with a long presentation of her book and how we can approach shame. She enlightens us that Rising Strong is regarding getting to the heart of the most excruciating and uncomfortable minutes we ve ever experienced, getting genuine about the path in which those moments have made us feel and being sufficiently striking to consider ourselves responsible to get up and develop from the past as we move into what more there is to come. She likewise focuses on that yes, most definitely, disappointment is excruciating, exceptionally difficult. Tragically be that as it may, the stories of battle to achievement that we re so regularly told do more than see their way through the pain and make their way to be success stories. As Harry Shaw says, It is a style of writing in which familiar ordinary aspects of life are depicted in a matter of fact straight forward manner designed to reflect life as it actually is Realism in drama is to depict life as it actually is. Realism is a revolt against romanticism in which the tendency is to idealize life and situations. So far as O Neil was concerned, he was dissatisfied with the romantic and unreal situations. He wanted to show living pulsating human beings. O Neil s early plays were a blend of realism and romanticism. But he is not averse to using melodrama in his plays colorless and monotonous. So in Mourning Becomes Electra, he shows Orin shooting Brant, Christine shooting herself, Orin shooting himself out of guilt complex and Lavinia dramatically entering the haunted house and the life of life long seclusion.
