Value Summer Reading
The value of Summer Reading: Once upon a time, when there was no internet, smartphones or
any wireless devices we had books. My library card is still one of my fondest childhood
summertime memories. I was so lucky to have a librarian aunt who literally fostered the love of
reading not just in me but in all my cousins. I d go to her library all summer long to get books,
any type and any genre of books. Summer was the only time that I was allowed to stay up late
most of the nights to devour my books. However, children today would rather to play computer
games, watch TV or spend their time online. But how can we make sure kids choose a book over a
screen when they re looking for fun? The key word is choice. According to a new research by

What to Do in Case of a Pandemia
There are many pandemics that could happen to most Americans. Such as Black outs, zombie
apocalypse, government collapse, nuclear fallout etc. if one was to survive the pandemic here
are some skills that might be a necessity. Knowing first aid is a priority. In a situation that calls
for first aid it is important to remember the Three C s Calm Cool and Collected. You must stay
calm cool and collective in order to not escalate you hart rate making you bleed more or spread
poisoning faster than normal. Even though one is calm cool and collective one still must move
at a fast pace in order to address the problem at hand. In a survival situation a person should not
take any risk that is not necessary or helpful to his well being. If it is a large epidemic one should
look for survivors around him for help. Even though one might want to survive on his own it is
better to survive as a unit, and it will be more productive than doing it on his own[Dual
Survival]. If one is assessing others around he should ask what they are feeling then checks his
breathing, and look for any visible wounds on the body. If there are wounds on the body apply
pressure with a shirt or gauze if available, apply the material available till the bleeding is no
longer visible. If the persons leg is broken or fractured, one can use a branch to stabilize and
create a make shift cast in a survival situation [the complete sas survival manual]. If sunburned

Business Studies Essay Relating to Finance
Financial Management is a critical aspect of any business in order to achieve a sustainable and
efficient cash flow. It is essential in maintaining the link between a business s future financial goals
(profit maximization) and the resources that it has in order to achieve its objectives. Businesses
demand certain common goals that increase a bussiness s all around achievement, Some of which
involve; growth amongst assests, An increase in efficiency in all areas of the business whether it be
management or not. And the ability to meet short term and long term debts. Finacial management

By spreading expenses over the whole year there is a more equal cash outflow each month rather
than one huge outflow during one month. An example of this is the offer from insurance
companies to be able to pay insurance premiums monthly instead of annually because of the
excessively high costs. Another strategy commonly used is Discounts for the early payments ,
This is where a business may offer discounts to account customers for the early payment of their
accounts to speed up cash inflow. This discount may be a little as 2 5%, but shows effective in
terms of cash inflow as it gives incentive for the customers, Giving both the customer and
business a gain in the financial situation. Other incentives for early payment could include small
gifts and discounts on future orders that the customers may have. The business then may shorten
the credit terms it allows for account customers. Thus Reducing the number of days that a
customer can take to pay its invoice, this will speed up cash inflow into the business as it
recieves cash from its sales much sooner. Factoring, a short term source of borrowing for a
business. IT enables a business to raise the funds immediately by selling accounts receivable at a
discount to a firm that specialises in collecting accounts recievable (a finance or even factoring
buiness). Factoring is an important source of short term finance because the business will recieve

Pornography, Protection, And Privacy
In 2015 Jiz Lee, pornographic performer, activist, and triathlete, published Coming Out Like a Porn
Star: Essays on Pornography, Protection, and Privacy. Their work is a unique collection of personal
essays written by more than fifty current and former adult professionals, including performers,
directors, website founders, and CEOs. Raw, honest, and occasionally hilarious, the book provides
critical insight into the difficulties of maintaining privacy, facing stigma, and finding support.
Coming Out Like a Porn Star (COLAPS) serves as a contribution to the destigmatization of
pornography, the recognition of the legitimacy of pornographic careers, and the appreciation of
sexual performance as labor.
As its full title suggests, the essays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The internet has made birth names more searchable and created a permanence of visibility, not
just for porn performers who have started recently, but also for ones who had, for a time, faded into
obscurity on dissolving reels of VHS tape. (Habib, C., The Name of Your First Pet and The Street
You Grew Up On in COLAPS, pg. 105)
In other cases, individuals chose to use their legal names, feeling that it was impossible to
maintain impermeable privacy. Some have even adopted their porn names for such reasons as
identification among fans and supporters or as a method of disowning shame associated with
their identity as queer, a porn performer, or otherwise (e.g. Habib, C., pg. 103 106; Halili
Orbacedo, M., pg. 246 249; Lowrance, C., pg. 75 76). These individuals, who chose to use their
legal names, largely acknowledged that their ability to do so was a privilege, that not many in the
industry are afforded. As a collective, these essays emphasize privacy as a primary method of
protection. Many writers, including Anonymous (pg. 38 40), Cyd Nova (pg. 118 122), and Kitty
Stryker (pg. 216 219), convey that, were it not for the misconceptions and negative connotations
surrounding their work, there would not be such a great need for methods of maintaining
desperately needed privacy.
In the context of COLAPS, three themes related to stigma recur throughout the book. The first has

Violent Video Games Is A Negative Effects On Society
Sixty percent of boys and forty percent of girls who have played violent video games have
ended up committing some act of bullying as a middle schooler. Those percentages come from
pure scientific research, and just stating that fact should be enough to convince the minds of the
public that young children playing such violent games lead to a more dangerous society.
Exposure to these violent video games leads kids to have more violent intentions which of course
leave a negative impact on society. The style and the way the games are created simply encourage
savage behavior that is not normally expected of children. Soon enough kids will see violenceas a
social norm or even worse, commit a massive crime as those have done before them. Though it
seems that many people disagree, violence in video games does have a poor influence on those
children who are the future of human society. Stylistically, video games are created in such ways
that subconsciously promote violence. In most games, the goal is to kill as many characters as
the player possibly can to move on to the next level. The rewards of gaining points or advancing
to the next level is what excites children, so in these games, when they are rewarded for
committing a violent act, children will want to continue doing so to gain more of those pleasing
rewards. Another tactic used by the creators of these games is that they put the player in the
shooter s perspective. Players of violent video games are more likely to

Opium Wars Unfolded And Their Effects On Others
How the Opium Wars Unfolded and Their Effects on Others The Opium wars were a series of
conflicts mainly between China and Britain. The dispute was over the legalization of the Opium
trade. China s people were severely suffering from the effects of the Opium. Britain had been
illegally moving opium from India into China. A large mass of the public had become addicted to
opioids and the government sensed the problem. Due to the success of the opium trade, Britain
refused to stop bringing in the Opium. The conflict between the two countries sparked the two part
Opium Wars. The first Opium warresulted in many different unsteady treaties, many of which were
seen as unfair to the Chinese. The second Opium Warwas a result of British greed. The Chinese
were preoccupied with the Taiping Rebellion, so the British decided to take advantage of the
situation and push the opium trade further, resulting in further conflict. The French decided to
join the British in the fighting, and the Chinese were left defeated and forced into negotiations.
Both wars resulted in series of treaties, but each war s treaties had different impacts and affected
people in different ways. After the first Opium War, China had to give up a lot in order to bring
peace with Britain. A series of treaties were signed. The first treaty was signed in August of 1842
in Nanjing. This treaty was known as the Treaty of Nanjing. There were many parts to this treaty,
but there were zero benefits to China. The

Essay about Darfur s Turning Point or Not
Evil can come in many different forms. Desmond Tutu claims this to be as he once said, When
people think of the sort of things that happen when genocide happens, it s again not people who
are intrinsically evil. This quote by Desmond Tutu is a definition of evil because not everybody
was born being evil it depends on a persons real nature. When many people think of evil they
think of the people that they do not like or do not care for. Without people being evil are world
would not be as it is today because we have overcame many of those challenges that it has brought
to us. Even though the Holocaust was horrible, people may debate that the DarfurGenocidewas

carry out the genocide(2). The Janyaweed entered many villages on horses and destroyed many
houses and buildings(2). They shoot many men, gang raped the woman and children, and shoot
everybody that tried to escape from them(2). The Janyaweed ensured mass destruction and
burned building down, and poisoned water wells to kill off some of people. While this genocide

The Teachings Of Buddhism And Buddhism
Buddhism is among one of the ancient religions that emerged in the early 4th and 6th century. The
religion differs in many aspects with other religions, especially due to its emphatic teaching in the
way of life in the society. The teachings of Buddhism religion, originated from that ideas presented
by Siddhartha Gautama. Siddhartha Gautama was known by many of his followers as Buddha. The
name Buddha was used to mean the Awakened One (Yeh, 92). His definition among the natives of
the Eastern Indian, which is where he started his philosophical teachings, emphasized that the only
way that social beings could relieve themselves from the chains of ignorance was through
understanding of the truth. As a result, everybody would be conscious of... Show more content on

For Buddhists, it is impossible for men. Gautama continued his teachings on self actualization
through the Four Immeasurable, the Four Noble Folds, the Five Precepts and the Noble Eightfold
Path (About Buddhism).
The guiding belief that defines the Buddhists way of good life is that a self conscious person,
free of ignorance character will never be haunted by the evils of desire and ignorance and will
remain awakened to brace life. That principle of the Buddha could be associated with a human
being s way of life and reasoning. Regardless of our religious doctrines, Gautama s teachings
explain the basic characters that every living being should embrace and put in practice in order to
understand life. Various religious experts and philosophers have developed various notions and
opinions about the teachings of Gautama. For instance, Christian believers differ with Buddha s
definition of rebirth as a continuous process and dynamic change in every human being. On the
contrary, Christians believe in life after birth as the start of rebirth and eternity.
With such divergent developments, people have been left to wonder, are Buddhism teachings the
explanation to the reality of life, and has it directly influenced how people live regardless of their
affiliated religions? The question would face divergence of opinions; however, Gautama s
advocacy on self meditation could be the defining path to link

What Does Lytton Make Suffragette
combination of elderly or physically frail people with fit young women [...] to embarrass the
authorities. (Bearman, 2007). This is what Lytton did when she was released from jail after she
was forcibly fed. She said that nobody had asked her about her health as she was not known by
them, and also because people made fun of her physical appearance. The Suffragettes chose to stop
eating because, as Nym Mayhall says in her essay, The Suffragettemilitancy was perfomative and
spectacular but not only and even primarily because it exhibited women s bodies in pain. (2000).
This is the reason why it disturbed so much the government which fed them by force, because their

But Lytton did not only stop eating, she also tried to carve Votes for Women on her own body.
This act shows how much she was desperate to defend what she believed in, so she used her
body as a tool for demonstrating her ideas. Moreover Lytton had also participated to
demonstrations and window breaking. She was also known for stone throwing, as it happened
once when she threw a stone, which was wrapped in a paper. It was a reaction to the new policy
of forcible feeding for the Suffragettes. Because of that, she was imprisoned a second times.
These acts belong to the last step in the strategy choices of the Suffragettes, which is called
coercion . Indeed, as Lance claims in his essay [...]when coercion is successful the target group is
forced to improve the movement s position at the expense of its own. (1979). It seems that the
members of the WSPU used coercion to intimidate the government, as they were desperate to finally
gain the right to vote. According to Bearman in his essay, which is called An Examination of
Suffragette Violence , [...] the overall intention of WSPU violence was firstly to intimidate and
secondly to punish.

The Great Theories Of Modern Day Psychology
INTRODUCTION
Thename Sigismund Schlomo Freud probably does not ring a bell with many people unless they
have taken some type of psychology class during their school years. When it comes to
psychological matters, a lot is unknown by the average person onwho the founders were of the
subject, or where the great theories of modern day psychology originated from. Born in 1856
andknown byhis shortened name ofSigmund Freud,he distinguishedhimself asan intellectual giant
(Rana, 1997). As a well known psychologist and scientist of his time, Freud s contributionsto the
subject ofpsychology were extremely vast. Freud isdescribedas oneof the most influential people of
his time with a legacy that not only influenced psychology, but literature, art, and the style of
disciplined for raising children (McLeod, 2013). The matter of psychoanalysis may not make sense
to those who are unfamiliar with topics in psychology, but
Freud s effort pioneered new techniques for understanding human behavior and his efforts resulted
in the most comprehensive theory of personality and psychotherapy ever developed
(Rana, 1997). Psychoanalysis was a method through clinical research which allowed patients to be
treated through psychopathology, which resulted in dialogue with a psychoanalyst and the patient

The Dark Triad And Sexual Harassment
Section One: Summary and Analysis (Strength and Weaknesses) The article The Dark Triad and
sexual harassment proclivity consists of research that concerns the importance of individuals with
tendencies that engage in sexual behaviors. It s unfortunate that sexual harassment is even
prevalent at such a high rate within our society. Moreover, it state that 44% of female and 19% of
male federal employees report that they have been sexually harassed at work (United States Merit
Systems protection Board, 1995). Consequently, there are results of sexual harassmentwithin the job
sector such as lack of job employment, lack of adjustment after the situations, and the like.
Therefore, according to the article, researchers began to expand their understanding of sexual
harassment and the causes of behavior that promote sexual harassment. More specifically, this
article states ...Previous research has established that these traits are connected with aspects of
sexual aggression (e.g. Figueredo, Gladden, Sisco, Patch, Jones, 2015, Jones Olderbak, 2014).
Therefore, two studies were conducted that connected the personality traits of The Dark Triadsuch
as narcissism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism to situations or reasons behind sexual
harassment proclivity. One study focused on the positive associations of Dark Triad traits to sexual
harassment. The second study was similar to the first study result; however, it also revealed how

Not Belonging In Shakespeare s As You Like It
To belong is to have an affinity to a place or person. In this way, not belonging may be even more
important than belonging as often individuals must be alienated in order to truly accept and
understand their own identity. Such a notion is explored within the Shakespearean play, As you
Like it, written in 1603. The text clearly illustrates the way in which not belonging to people,
place and society is even more important that belonging as it allows an individual to gain a
heightened understanding of the value of belonging and identity. Not belonging to people can lead
individuals to gain a deeper understanding of the value of belonging. As seen in As You Like it,
several characters are forced to experience alienation in order to understand... Show more content

This idea is evident in the play as several characters who are isolated from The Court are able to
deepen their understanding of identity. Shakespeare uses the character of Duke Senior to
illustrate such an idea. The Duke is banished from the court by his younger brother and placed
into exile in the Forest of Arden. It is through this displacement into the natural world and his
experiences in tongues in trees, sermons in stones, books in running brooks and good in
everything , that the Duke is able to truly develop his identity. The personification of nature as
the teacher implies that the Duke has been taught about a new sense of identity. This
demonstrates that the Duke s alienation from the court has allowed him to become a part of the
natural world and in turn enrich his own identity and sense of self. In a similar way, the character
of Jaques is able to deepen his understanding about the values of belonging through his alienation
from the court. However, this alienation is by choice not force. As the rest of the group prepare
for marriage with dance and food, Jaques chooses not to return to the court believing he is for
other than for dancing measures . This juxtaposition of behaviour illustrates to the audience the
deeper meaning Jaques is determined to find not only in himself but in a world away from the
court. Not belonging has allowed Jaques to understand the truth about the court of painted pomp .
The use of the alliteration highlights to the audience the realisation that Jaques has come to about
the artificial nature of the court. Shakespeare uses this melancholy character to demonstrate that
not belonging to a place allows an individual to gain a better perspective of the world and their
purpose on it. It is through the alienation from the court that the Duke is able to develop his
identity as part of the natural world and Jaques is able to gain a better

The Plight Of The Immigrant Farmer Worker Essay
Bernard Lange Professor Byrne Composition I, English 1510 November 20, 2016 The Plight of
the Immigrant Farm Worker Have you ever wondered how really bad it is to be an immigrant
farm worker? The article In the Strawberry Fields by Eric Scholsser, he looks at the hardships
that face immigrant farmers. Though there are laws to try and help the immigrants Schlosser
observed The temptation to break the law can be great. The punishments for doing so are rarely
applied (86). From sharecropping and low wages to deplorable living conditions the farmers
take advantage of immigrant workers at nearly every turn. Enforcing the laws will help improve
immigrant farmers working and living conditions. Sharecropping is one way the famers take
advantage of the immigrants, sharecropping is the most insidious means by which growers
avoid responsibility for their workers (Schlosser 86). The farmer would lease a portion of their
land to the sharecropper. By doing so the immigrant sharecropper would then be responsible for
just about every aspect of the farm operation. In effect he would become a pseudo farmer, but in
the end would really hold no power or land. Sharecroppers lease the land from the farmer. The
farmers will lend the money to run the farm to the sharecropper at a very high interest rate.
Schlosser notes, under the old arraignment, if things went wrong, sharecroppers simply would not
be paid for their work; under the new one, they are being saddled with thousands

The themes found in the passages, Celeste s Heart by Aida Bartnik and Principals and Principles
by Daniel Hadler both are similar. A similar theme from both passages is that you have to stand up
for what you believe in no matter the cost or outcome.

passages. The main character, Celeste is a young student who attends a school in Argentina.
During the break periods at school, their teacher would make her class stand in a line and stretch

the wicked people will find sneaky ways to change the rules. But you should stand up for your

There are many cheap readily available cakes options in the market and they can be bought
easily. Hence, it was suggested that in order to stay competitive in the cake industry, MugMix
has to keep the price of the premixes low. Another concern that was being pointed out was the
taste of the premixes cakes. The cakes should taste nice, rivalling that of those in confectioneries
such that cake lovers would want to purchase many sachets of it. The flavours that MugMix
produce must be unique such that there is no close substitute to it. Some of the recommended
flavours by the interviewees are Laksa, Chendol and Avocado flavours. Moving on, the
interviewees are also quite concern with the shelf life of cake mixes. To encourage consumers to
purchase the premixes in large quantities, they must be able to be stored for a long period of time.

Analysis Of A Dead Man s Pockets, And Ambush
1234Literary Analysis Collection 1 Are you ready to analyze three stories? Yes? Awesome! No?
Too bad, because here we go! The three stories in question are The Leap, The Contents of a Dead
Man s Pockets, and Ambush. The authors of these stories use aspects of their stories to shape the
plot, show the theme, and to change the views of the characters in the stories. The first literary
element used in the stories to form the plot, was the setting. In the story Ambush, the narrator is
crouching in bushes alongside a dirt path that is shrouded in fog and mist. The narrator remarks
when telling this story that, The mosquitoes were fierce. I remember slapping at them, wondering
if I should wake up Kiowa and ask for some repellent, then... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The boat that the characters are in, is small and causes a lot of tension between the characters.
Like the other passengers, Murad looks on, stunned. They expected to be taken all the way to the
shore, where they could easily disperse and then hide. The idea of having to swim the rest of the
way is intolerable, especially for those who are not natives of Tangier and accustomed to its
waters... Someone makes an abrupt movement to reason with Rahal, to force him to go all the way
to shore, but the Zodiac loses balance and then it s too late. This tension causes the boat to
eventually flip, which changes the outcome of the story and plot. In these three stories, the authors
use the setting of the story to shape and alter the plot in multiple ways. The writers also used the
conflicts of the stories to further the plot and to change the character s opinions and views. The
conflict of Ambush, the narrator throwing a grenade at an unknown man, resulted in the narrator
changing the way he acted in the future. Even now I haven t finished sorting it out. Sometimes I
forgive myself, other times I don t. In the ordinary hours of life I try not to dwell on it, but now
and then, when I m reading a newspaper or just sitting alone in a room, I ll look up and see the
young man coming out of the morning fog. The conflict of the story continues to impact the
narrator s life, even many years after it happened. In Contents of a Dead Man s Pockets, the
protagonist is changed

Hardships Of The Film Industry
Hardships of the Film industry throughout history we as humans have found many ways to keep
our selves entertained. From bloodshed in the arena with gladiators, to medieval knights in the joust
and theatrical plays, we have created these these eye catching showings to keep our selves enticed.
One of the greatest invention for entertainment so far is filmmaking for tv. The director, editor and
producer who are dedicated to their profession have put out amazing masterpieces together to
show their viewers around the world what great entertainment looks like on their tv screen
which is simple astonishing. Most individual s might think that the film industry does not have a
difficult process when it comes to developing and producing these shows viewer s love to watch
like The Walking Dead . But I would like to go into depth with some of the task that can cause
the industry to have a hard time doing what they do best. Dealing with a camera is not easy as
most think, it takes a certain talent and the right eye to direct what the director is trying to
capture. Directors have to be observant when shooting a film because there could be a certain
moment that needs to be captured in a precise fashion where it can make a movie or show
suspenseful or touching. Camera angles is a term used when dealing with slightly different camera
shots to the audience (1). With the different angel shots can tell a lot depending on the position
which is important. For example, a eye level shot is

The Progressive Montessori School System
Perhaps it was an unintentional cruelty on the part of my parents to enroll me first in the
progressive Montessori school system that encouraged critical thinking and creativity, followed
by an evening catholic school program that required unquestioning obedience to a monolithic
religious dogma. When I began the sixth grade the window of an English professor and a family
friend gave me access to his extensive library and personal text notes because of my growing
interest in literature. In the first few months of my library visits, the Catholic program phoned my
mother to discourage my further attendance in both the church and the educational program. I had
begun incessantly probing my young Catechism instructor about the faith, and his unsatisfactory
response had prompted my protests and refusal to participate in any religious ceremonies or
sacraments. I had discovered both the Antichrist and Civil Disobedience during my forays into
the library, and though I was unable to grasp the intricacies of these texts, the basic messages
resonated with my experiences of perceived oppression and religious conditioning. The library
was my Pandora s Box, and it allowed me to escape into places and ideas far removed from what I
thought to be a banal existence in a small historic village in the Appalachian Mountains. My
youthful rebellions, and inquisitiveness, though often misguided and misplaced, were not to be
tempered in my adult life. As a high school student I was emboldened by an

How The Increase Of R Certified Movies Is Impacting...
How the Increase of R Certified Movies is Impacting American Society Imagine a family walks
into a movie theater and is trying to figure out what movie they want to see; the mother wants to
see the hot new chick flick movie that is rated PG 13, the daughter wants to see the cute new
children s movie that is rated G, but the father has absolutely no interest in either and wants to go
see the exciting new R rated action movie. The family debates the issue at hand and analyzes
whether the R rated movie is appropriate for their daughter to watch. The first thing that must be
understood is what qualifies a movie for an R certification. This R certification can be issued
because of many different reasons for example; clear and convincing actively flowing blood (not
a puddle or a bit of red makeup on an actor), frequent use of vulgar language, nudity, and clear and
convincing drug use (Rebecca, 2010). To fully understand where the Motion Picture Association
of America comes from with their certifications, there must be some background knowledge of
the former certification system called the Hays Code. The Hays Code was implemented in 1930
and, while it may not be used anymore, inspired the Motion Picture Association of America s
certification system; the Hays Code is religion based, several of the ideas have been reformed
today, and moralistic in fact, one of the general principals is No picture shall be produced that will
lower the moral standards of those who see it. Hence the

Understanding the Black Power Movement
IntroductionUnderstanding the Black Power Movement as it relates to the creation of Black or
African American study programs and departments is to recognize the efforts of radical student
activists on college campuses. The prevailing thought of the Black existence casted doubt on the
importance of Black/African studies at colleges and universities. Blacks, unfortunately, were
thought to not have a history, or at least one not worth examining, in the American existence and
even within world civilization. However, such as notion is baseless. In the tens of thousands of
years of civilization, Africans have witnessed and contributed to the productivity of the human
existence. The great salt and gold kingdoms of the Ghanaian and Malian Empires thrived long
before the Hapsburg and Bourbon dynasties rules Spain and France, respectively. Yet, the
contributions of those great African civilizations were often ignored in the historiography of early
civilizations. Even the contributions of the Ancient Egyptians have become part of the ensemble of
the Greek and Roman tragedy, removing Egypt from the history of Africa. The contributions of
Black Americans in the history of the United States were virtually absent prior to the creation of
Black Study programs and departments. The assumption of Black history was that it included the
300 plus years of enslavement, the Civil War (where student are indoctrinated to believe that
President Lincoln intended on freeing Blacks) and then the more

Factory Farms Pollution
Factory farms are becoming one of our main sources of pollution to our planet. The concentrated,
massive amount of animals in one place requires much resources, generates a huge amount of
wastes which are highly harmful to the surrounding environment. Furthermore, only a small
fraction of feed additives in intensive animal agricultureis metabolized in the animal s body, while
the rest goes unchanged into the urine and manure. Indiscriminate use of arsenic compounds in
agricultural activities during the 20th century has caused widespread soil pollution (Liu 273). The
soil in the areas is in such a poor condition that it is no longer fertile. The concentrated waste of the
animals has contaminated the groundwater and polluted the rivers nearby... Show more content on

Environmental Protection Agency has blamed the current farming practices for 70% of the
pollution in the nation s rivers and streams. They reports that runoff of chemicals, silt, and animal
waste from U.S. farmland has polluted more than 173,000 miles of waterways in 1998. These
natural resources are being depleted at a faster rate than they can self replenish (Horrigan 447).
Livestock are fed with genetically engineered corn and soy instead of pasture which means that a
lot of energy is used up by the animal during the conversion of grains eaten to meat. Extensive
monocultures of grain feedlots used to supply diet in factory farms means the use of huge amounts
of pesticides which pollutes ground water and emits nitrous oxide (Horrigan 450). According to a
2006 report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), animal
agriculture is responsible for 18 percent of all human induced greenhouse gas emissions, including
37 percent of methane emissions and 65 percent of nitrous oxide emissions. The methane releases
from billions of imprisoned animals on factory farms are 70 times more damaging per ton to the
earth s atmosphere than CO2. Immense natural ecosystems such as forests and wetlands have been
destroyed to pave way to intensive feedlots and animal rangeland. This wasteful exploitation of
resources has disrupted the ecosystems natural balance of

AIDS Epidemic In 1980s America
Exploring the AIDS Epidemic in 1980s America
Angels in America examines the spread AIDS throughout the 1980s and the ways that people
reacted towards it. It s a serious play about politics, history, spirituality, and death...It was not only
an attack on 1980s Reaganism, but also on the conservative movement of the U.S. politics and
culture since the end of World War II (Bronski 58). Angels in America represents an act of
resistance and asks the audience whether change is possible. This question takes on a whole new
meaning for the audience, who has the added benefit of hindsight.

We are able to see the ways in which this process occurs and cultural productions are not only
ideas, but have a reality in the way that they are played out on the bodies of the characters. We are
able to see that the way that disease is conceptualized directly impacts the response of the
government and the medical community to the disease, the types of support made available to
people afflicted by disease and the various amounts of oppression or discrimination that they may
encounter in their everyday lives as a result. Ideas about homosexuality and AIDS affect the type of
treatment that Prior receives and the way that his loved ones interact with him. The 1980s were
particularly devastating for the gay men. 1985 marked the beginning of President Reagan s
second term. Reagan is mentioned several times over the course of part 1 not only to set a
political backdrop for the series, but also challenges the audience to question why the
government was so slow to respond to this issue. Reagan didn t even give his first speech on
HIV/AIDS until years after the on start of the epidemic and after thousands of lives had been
lost. In this context, it is fair to assume that HIV/AIDS really became an epidemic through the
lack of immediate action from the government and medical establishments that can be directly
attributed to homophobic. From its onset, there was widespread fear of contamination as AIDS
was constructed as a fatal infectious disease that threatened to wipe out mankind. It was also
seen as a gay plague or punishment for sexually abnormal behavior.Angels in America is not
merely a political critique, but an act of political resistance and a beacon of hope. In the final
scene, Prior delivers a stirring monologue, the audience sees that we are not doomed to repeat the
mistakes of our past. It takes place in 1990, Prior

Observation Of A Child Observation
Over the past few weeks I have observed a child in the twelve to eighteen month old category.
Throughout this paper I will refer to him as Z. I had five different observations, each for one hour
at the West Chester Area Day Care. I sat in classroom seven, in a little chair in the corner writing
down everything I observed about him. It was interesting to learn about Z as I watched him interact
with the adults and other kids that were in the room with him. Z caught my attentionright away in
the classroom. He was very active, walkingaround while the other children were mainly sittingor
only crawling. This lead me to choose him to observe for this project, and focus on his physical
movement and interactions with others throughout this paper. Z was always moving around,
the only time he was ever sitting still was when he was placed in a height chair for snack time.
He switched between crawling and walking. Most of the time he would walk, but then he would
fall down and continue to wherever his destination was by crawling. I noticed one day he was
holding a maraca and walked for a longer period of time than usual. According to (page 183
infants children and adolescents), it is easier for them to focus on their balance when they are
holding onto an object. He demonstrated the ability t squat down and picking something up,
before returning to a standing position. The adults encouraged his walking behaviors, so when
the group came in from the outside playground, they would let him walk in, while most of the
other kids were being pushed in the giant stroller. The average age for most kids to begin
walking is 11 months and 3 weeks, the range being 9 to 17 months, so he his definitely on track
for his age group (182). He was also able to climb up onto things. For example, when the children
were brought on walks around the neighborhood there was a giant stroller that they rode in as
mentioned earlier. Z got up the step and turned himself around to sit down in the seat. He did the
same thing on some of the steps on the playground, crawling up one and turning himself around to
sit. Walking up stairs with help is achieved on average at 16 months, so he appears to be on the
right track towards that motor skill. A baby s

Why Is Adrienne Rich Claiming An Education Summary
In Adrienne Rich s essay, Claiming an Education , the author speaks about the female experience
against the male dominated academic scene. Despite the fact that this essay was written in 1979, a
number of Rich s points seem timeless. Rich encourages young women to insist on a life of
meaningful work. As a seventeen year old student, I have often heard from my femalecompanions
that they anticipate a higher educationas an opportunity to hunt down a spouse. The frequency
and zeal of this conclusion, seeing education only as means of marriage, strikes me as
particularly pitiful and archaic. Adrienne Rich s thesis in Claiming an Education aptly expresses
the array of roles women hold in societies, the benefits, and weaknesses of our education system,
as well as the struggles that women are exposed to. She successfully develops her thesis statement
by the effective use of a variety of methods of development and various literary devices to improve
her writingquality and to help readers interpret her message. I agree with Rich s thesis statement
because education entails being responsible for oneself, not just for women, but for all students.
Rich uses effective methods of development to further expand her thesis statement. The use of
compare and contrast and definition is seen in certain sections of the essay. Comparing and
contrasting illuminates the subtle differences and similarities, which increases the reader s
understanding. For instance, Rich compares the definitions

Dunkin Donuts And Krispy Kreme
When it comes to the consumption of coffee and donuts, I wonder to myself who does the best
job at doing so at a reasonable price and who has the most benefits. That is when I decided that I
was to put Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme side by side to see who would be the best in the
modern marketing world. In order to do this, I will be discussing the four P s to differentiate the
companies and use other material that was discussed in class. When I started to write this report;
my original plan was to use Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks to determine which would be better,
however these companies are far from comparison and I chose a company that would be more
similar in products and service, with that company being Krispy KremeDoughnuts. The first order
of business in choosing which company comes on top, is to figure out the marketing mix of the
two. According to oxforddictionaires.com, the marketing mix is defined as a combination of
factors that can be controlled by a company to influence consumers to purchase its products .
This is then broken down into product, price, promotion, and place (Grewal, 33). Using this, we
will be able to break down what each company does differently and who is more effective. The
first p we will be using is product, which is defined as an article or substance that is manufactured
or refined for sale (oxforddictionaries.com). According to the Krispy Kreme menu on its website;

Difference Between A Pert And Gantt Chart
Compare and contrast the information that one receives from a Gantt chart, versus that of a
PERT diagram A significant piece of project management is organization. Both Pert and Gantt
charts are essential tools that are utilized by project managers in creating a project schedule. Both
types of charts offer tools for managers to examine projects through visualization, helping divide
responsibilities into controllable parts. An important difference between a PERT chart and a
Gantt chart is the way the information is presented. Gantt charts display information in the
design of a bar chart. This representation helps show the percentage of work accomplished for
each task. On the other hand, PERT shows data as a network model. Meaning that a PERT chart
displays an earlier node from which tasks branch out. This helps project managers envision the
arrangement of tasks. Together PERT and Gantt charts will show the tasks to be accomplished, but
the charts highlight dissimilar parts. A Gantt chart s primary focus is on the ratio completion of
each task, without indicating the connection that two tasks may have to each other. While PERT
typically does not show the percentage completed, PERT employs a network model, which makes
it is easy to see which tasks depend on each other, it typically does not show the percentage of
completed tasks. Examine the advantages of using a Gantt chart over a PERT chart and vice versa.

Literary Comparison Between Wulf And Eadwacer
Wulf and Eadwacer is a poem of great mystery to scholars because of its unknown meaning and
where it is found in writing. It is one of the poems written within the Exeter Book. The Exeter
Book was written in about the tenth century and is filled with both historical poems and riddle
poems. Part of the mystery of the meaning of Wulf of Eadwacer comes from where it is placed
within the Exeter Book. The poem lies at the very end of the historical poems, which are poems
that focus on historic events and people, and at the very beginning of the riddle poems, which are
poems that were told with a hidden answer in order to pass the time. Because of this, scholars argue
over which section the poem belongs to and, with this, how to interpret the meaning. I believe...

Signy never truly loved Siggeir, she never even wanted to live with him. In The Saga of the
Volsungs, Signy says: I do not wish to go away with Siggeir, nor do my thoughts laugh with him.
I know through my foresight and that special ability found in our family that if the marriage
contract is not quickly dissolved, this union will bring us much misery. Signy does not trust
Siggeir and only sees him as a way to bring misery on herself and her family. The fact that Signy
never loved her husband adds evidence to the fact that she is the answer to the riddle. The last
connection we can make is that Signy did give her sons by Siggeir to Sigmund. She gave them
to Sigmund so that he would have a companion during his time as an outlaw. She also wanted
someone to aide Sigmund when he did come back and take revenge on Siggeir for the deaths of
their family members. Signy s children were cursed, however, because they were weak children.
The curse came because once Sigmund realized they were weak, Signy had given him permission
to kill them because they would bring dishonor to the Volsung

War Is Kind
Research Paper Rough Draft Statistics show that over 1000 people were killed in the U.S. by
police in 2015, and at least 441 people have been killed so far this year alone. If we continue with
this trend, the numbers will keep growing each year. If the police force was created to protect
citizens, why are people living in constant fear of being killed every day? The police force, much
like war, is often glorified in the media, when in reality it does more bad for society than good.
Stephen Crane used his experiences in the war to write War Is Kind , and he gave America a
perspective that many hadn t considered before. He wasn t afraid to let people know that the war
wasn t all people make it out to be. While there will always be a desire... Show more content on

War is not kind to the soldiers in combat. War is not kind to the innocent civilians who reside in
the area of war. However, war is kind to the economy. Society likes to disregard the emotional
and physical trauma that those involved with the war deal with and focus only on the high
points of war. One might argue that war stimulates the economy and a strong army is necessary
for protection, but how far are we willing to go when the hands of young men and women s lives
are in our hands? We have to draw the line at some point, and in the interview with David
Grossman, he says that The truth is, we exist by virtue of killing . Stephen Crane tried to send out
a similar message when he said Point for them the virtue of slaughter, make plain to them the
excellence of killing . He was criticizing the way the military trains their soldiers, and how they are
setting their men up for trauma later on in

Way Of The Peaceful Warrior Character Analysis
That Was No Accident
In the book, Way of the Peaceful Warrior, Dan experiences an accident on his motorcycle at his
home in Los Angeles. However, that accident was not accidental, it was part of a larger plan and
was going to happen whether he thought he could prevent it or not.
During Dan s training to become a warrior Socrates often gave Dan advice that either did not
make sense at the time or Dan did not take seriously. On a particular day as Dan was saying good
bye to Socrates for a couple days when he told Socrates of his plans Socrates offered piece of
advice that was frightening to him. Socrates had said many things to him at that time and one of
them was You ll be tested severely before you re done. Part of Dan s plans while he was in Los
Angeles was to buy a motorcycle that he could ride back to San Francisco. One evening after Dan
had bought his motorcycle he was riding down an avenue as he approached an intersection he saw
a car facing him that was trying to turn left. As he slowed down the car started to turn right in front
of him. The motorcycle and Dan collided right into the car, ... Show more content on

A parable that Joy told Dan while he was in the hospital was about a man having a troubles on his
farm, but he would never say whether he thought that it was good luck or bad luck. Each of the
situations that happened to the old man could have been taken either way. Dan s accident could
have been looked at the same way; either it was good luck or bad luck, which apply to the reasons
why he may have had the accident. One reason that Dan may have had the accident was that he was
not supposed to attend the World Gymnastics Championships in Yugoslavia. It may have been that
Socrates new of something that was bound to happen when he was there that could have been more
damaging physically or mentally to his warrior training. A further reason that Dan may have had the
accident was so that he could take time and

Change Bruce Dawe
Change can be confronting and because of this we often try to resist it. However, we need change
and we must accept it, for without change we cannot grow. This confrontation of change,
resistance and final acceptance of change can be seen in the texts, Drifters , And a good Friday
was held by all by Bruce Dawe and 10 Things I hate about you by Gil Junger. All three of these
texts examine the process of change and the attitudes towards change. These texts all share simular
audiences of ambitious individuals striving for a better future. Drifters and A Good Friday was held

Change is shown significantly throughout the film as towards the end of the film Kat has
transformed in to a completely different person. Kat doesn t have anymore outbursts in class;
she isn t sent to the guidance office, has less run In s with her sister Bianca and she becomes
accepted by her peers. Her transformation is the result of affection as Kat is tamed by love. At the
start of the film, we first see Kat, blaring Joan Jetts Bad Reputation from her cars sound system.
We know straight away that Kat doesn t give a dam about her bad reputation. The film technique
of sound and music is used to emphasise her personality and reputation without her In the film a
medium close up of Kats face is shown when she reads her poem in class. This scene shows a
completely different view of Kat than was previously presented in the film. Change is shown in
this part of the film when Kat confesses her love and lets her emotions flow in tears while she
reads her poem in front of the entire class. The Kat presented in the previous scenes of the film
never would have allowed herself to be seen in such a vulnerable way; her previous attitude was
tough, distant and more masculine. The medium close up of Kats face while she reads the poem
enables us to see how her facial expressions change and her feminine side appear to allow herself
to express her emotions. It seemed as though

What Is A Just War
When is it alright for one country to attack another? This is something many people have tried to
define throughout the centuries. Warfarge changes, morals change, and society change very
frequently, to make certain, when the use of force against another country has been okay. The use
of military force against another country is only just, when it is used strictly in self defense. What
exactly is a just war? By definition, it is a war that is morally or ideologically justified, by either
society or an international authority. The just wartheory states that war must be a last resort at all
times, there must be a large chance of success, and the benefits must outweigh the cost of the
actions. That is it, there must be ...no other option other... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You got to think if you are going to get more out of the fighting than you are going to lose. War
has quite a hefty price tag on it, as many countries have to borrow money to fund it, as seen in
the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which put us trillions more in debt. For this reason the
war is rarely needed, as there is plenty to lose and little to gain. Speaking from a humanitarian
point of view the cost of human life is greater than the monetary cost of war. Which it is, it is the
greatest and most regrettable part of war, because a person cannot be replaced the same way that
money can. The loss of human life has been the deciding factor on whether countries should use
force or if they should not. Almost no one wants to live with the thought that thousands of lives
were lost by their hands. The United Nations is the highest authority on whether to deem a cause
just or condemning it. In chapter 7 of it states that the use of force is just only if used in self
defense or the security council authorizes it. It also states in its charter for its member nations to
refrain from using force or the threat thereof in their international

An Analysis Of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Koziol 9
Creating Life
To say that fiction or fantasy relies solely on the imagination, would lessen the importance that the
personal lives of many fantasy writers plays on the conception of a story. For Mary Shelley, her
life was the basis and inspiration, maybe subconsciously, of her very first, and arguably most
famous novel, Frankenstein. Through the influences of people and events, Mary Shelley was able to
write about friendship and alienation in Frankenstein.
The creation of life is at the center of the novel, and the creation of Mary s life plays a big part in
who she was from birth until her death. Mary was born in 1797 to William Godwin and Mary
Wollstonecraft.1 William Godwin and Mary Wollstonecraft were both very... Show more content

When Mary was fourteen, she was sent to Scotland to stay with Mr. William Baxter. Mary was
glad to get away from her step mother in London. This time was the beginning of Mary s life as
a writer. Mary recollected, . . . as the daughter of two persons of distinguished literary celebrity, I
should very early in life have thought of writing. . . my favourite pastime . . . was to write stories
. 5 Mary was educated by tutors at home, in the writings of her parents and in foreign language.6
Her time in Scotland was full of leisure, so Mary began to compose stories.7 She thought back on
her time there with fondness and comfort. When Mary returned home to London, her house on
Skinner Street was constantly busy with different writers and thinkers who came to sit and talk
with Godwin. Percy Bysshe Shelley was an admirer of Godwin s, and wrote to him in request to
be a regular houseguest. Godwin agreed and Shelley began to go daily to Skinner Street with his
then wife, Harriet.8 Shelley was a well read young man who had been kicked out of Oxford
University for a piece he did in support of atheism. He was a breath of fresh air to Mary. Mary at
the time was about the age of seventeen. She enjoyed her father s company, but the men were
much older than she was. Shelley was only twenty one, and Mary was physically attracted to
him.9 Mary would take books to her mother s grave in St. Pancras

I d go to her library all summer long to get books, any type and any genre of books. Summer was the only time that I was allowed to stay up late most of the nights to devour my books. Such as Black outs, zombie apocalypse, government collapse, nuclear fallout etc. if one was to survive the pandemic here are some skills that might be a necessity. Knowing first aid is a priority. In a situation that calls for first aid it is important to remember the Three C s Calm Cool and Collected. You must stay calm cool and collective in order to not escalate you hart rate making you bleed more or spread poisoning faster than normal. Even though one is calm cool and collective one still must move at a fast pace in order to address the problem at hand. In a survival situation a person should not take any risk that is not necessary or helpful to his well being. If it is a large epidemic one should look for survivors around him for help. Even though one might want to survive on his own it is better to survive as a unit, and it will be more productive than doing it on his own[Dual Survival]. If one is assessing others around he should ask what they are feeling then checks his breathing, and look for any visible wounds on the body. If there are wounds on the body apply pressure with a shirt or gauze if available, apply the material available till the bleeding is no longer visible. An example of this is the offer from insurance companies to be able to pay insurance premiums monthly instead of annually because of the excessively high costs. Another strategy commonly used is Discounts for the early payments , This is where a business may offer discounts to account customers for the early payment of their accounts to speed up cash inflow. This discount may be a little as 2 5%, but shows effective in terms of cash inflow as it gives incentive for the customers, Giving both the customer and business a gain in the financial situation. Other incentives for early payment could include small gifts and discounts on future orders that the customers may have. The business then may shorten the credit terms it allows for account customers. Thus Reducing the number of days that a customer can take to pay its invoice, this will speed up cash inflow into the business as it recieves cash from its sales much sooner. Factoring, a short term source of borrowing for a business. (Habib, C., The Name of Your First Pet and The Street You Grew Up On in COLAPS, pg. 105) In other cases, individuals chose to use their legal names, feeling that it was impossible to maintain impermeable privacy. Some have even adopted their porn names for such reasons as identification among fans and supporters or as a method of disowning shame associated with their identity as queer, a porn performer, or otherwise (e.g. Habib, C., pg. 103 106; Halili Orbacedo, M., pg. 246 249; Lowrance, C., pg. 75 76). These individuals, who chose to use their legal names, largely acknowledged that their ability to do so was a privilege, that not many in the industry are afforded. • 6. Violent Video Games Is A Negative Effects On Society Sixty percent of boys and forty percent of girls who have played violent video games have ended up committing some act of bullying as a middle schooler. Those percentages come from pure scientific research, and just stating that fact should be enough to convince the minds of the public that young children playing such violent games lead to a more dangerous society. Exposure to these violent video games leads kids to have more violent intentions which of course leave a negative impact on society. The style and the way the games are created simply encourage savage behavior that is not normally expected of children. Soon enough kids will see violenceas a social norm or even worse, commit a massive crime as those have done before them. Though it seems that many people disagree, violence in video games does have a poor influence on those children who are the future of human society. Stylistically, video games are created in such ways that subconsciously promote violence. In most games, the goal is to kill as many characters as the player possibly can to move on to the next level. The rewards of gaining points or advancing to the next level is what excites children, so in these games, when they are rewarded for committing a violent act, children will want to continue doing so to gain more of those pleasing rewards. Another tactic used by the creators of these games is that they put the player in the shooter s perspective. Players of violent video games are more likely to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The dispute was over the legalization of the Opium trade. China s people were severely suffering from the effects of the Opium. Britain had been illegally moving opium from India into China. A large mass of the public had become addicted to opioids and the government sensed the problem. Due to the success of the opium trade, Britain refused to stop bringing in the Opium. The conflict between the two countries sparked the two part Opium Wars. The first Opium warresulted in many different unsteady treaties, many of which were seen as unfair to the Chinese. The second Opium Warwas a result of British greed. The Chinese were preoccupied with the Taiping Rebellion, so the British decided to take advantage of the situation and push the opium trade further, resulting in further conflict. The French decided to join the British in the fighting, and the Chinese were left defeated and forced into negotiations. Both wars resulted in series of treaties, but each war s treaties had different impacts and affected people in different ways. After the first Opium War, China had to give up a lot in order to bring peace with Britain. A series of treaties were signed. The first treaty was signed in August of 1842 in Nanjing. In this way, not belonging may be even more important than belonging as often individuals must be alienated in order to truly accept and understand their own identity. Such a notion is explored within the Shakespearean play, As you Like it, written in 1603. The text clearly illustrates the way in which not belonging to people, place and society is even more important that belonging as it allows an individual to gain a heightened understanding of the value of belonging and identity. Not belonging to people can lead individuals to gain a deeper understanding of the value of belonging. As seen in As You Like it, several characters are forced to experience alienation in order to understand... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This idea is evident in the play as several characters who are isolated from The Court are able to deepen their understanding of identity. Shakespeare uses the character of Duke Senior to illustrate such an idea. The Duke is banished from the court by his younger brother and placed into exile in the Forest of Arden. It is through this displacement into the natural world and his experiences in tongues in trees, sermons in stones, books in running brooks and good in everything , that the Duke is able to truly develop his identity. The personification of nature as the teacher implies that the Duke has been taught about a new sense of identity. This demonstrates that the Duke s alienation from the court has allowed him to become a part of the natural world and in turn enrich his own identity and sense of self. In a similar way, the character of Jaques is able to deepen his understanding about the values of belonging through his alienation from the court. However, this alienation is by choice not force. As the rest of the group prepare for marriage with dance and food, Jaques chooses not to return to the court believing he is for other than for dancing measures . This juxtaposition of behaviour illustrates to the audience the deeper meaning Jaques is determined to find not only in himself but in a world away from the court. Not belonging has allowed Jaques to understand the truth about the court of painted pomp . The use of the alliteration highlights to the audience the realisation that Jaques has come to about the artificial nature of the court. Shakespeare uses this melancholy character to demonstrate that not belonging to a place allows an individual to gain a better perspective of the world and their purpose on it. It is through the alienation from the court that the Duke is able to develop his identity as part of the natural world and Jaques is able to gain a better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Plight Of The Immigrant Farmer Worker Essay Bernard Lange Professor Byrne Composition I, English 1510 November 20, 2016 The Plight of the Immigrant Farm Worker Have you ever wondered how really bad it is to be an immigrant farm worker? The article In the Strawberry Fields by Eric Scholsser, he looks at the hardships that face immigrant farmers. Though there are laws to try and help the immigrants Schlosser observed The temptation to break the law can be great. The punishments for doing so are rarely applied (86). From sharecropping and low wages to deplorable living conditions the farmers take advantage of immigrant workers at nearly every turn. Enforcing the laws will help improve immigrant farmers working and living conditions. Sharecropping is one way the famers take advantage of the immigrants, sharecropping is the most insidious means by which growers avoid responsibility for their workers (Schlosser 86). The farmer would lease a portion of their land to the sharecropper. By doing so the immigrant sharecropper would then be responsible for just about every aspect of the farm operation. In effect he would become a pseudo farmer, but in the end would really hold no power or land. Sharecroppers lease the land from the farmer. The farmers will lend the money to run the farm to the sharecropper at a very high interest rate. Schlosser notes, under the old arraignment, if things went wrong, sharecroppers simply would not be paid for their work; under the new one, they are being saddled with thousands ... The Progressive Montessori School System Perhaps it was an unintentional cruelty on the part of my parents to enroll me first in the progressive Montessori school system that encouraged critical thinking and creativity, followed by an evening catholic school program that required unquestioning obedience to a monolithic religious dogma. When I began the sixth grade the window of an English professor and a family friend gave me access to his extensive library and personal text notes because of my growing interest in literature. In the first few months of my library visits, the Catholic program phoned my mother to discourage my further attendance in both the church and the educational program. I had begun incessantly probing my young Catechism instructor about the faith, and his unsatisfactory response had prompted my protests and refusal to participate in any religious ceremonies or sacraments. I had discovered both the Antichrist and Civil Disobedience during my forays into the library, and though I was unable to grasp the intricacies of these texts, the basic messages resonated with my experiences of perceived oppression and religious conditioning. How the Increase of R Certified Movies is Impacting American Society Imagine a family walks into a movie theater and is trying to figure out what movie they want to see; the mother wants to see the hot new chick flick movie that is rated PG 13, the daughter wants to see the cute new children s movie that is rated G, but the father has absolutely no interest in either and wants to go see the exciting new R rated action movie. The family debates the issue at hand and analyzes whether the R rated movie is appropriate for their daughter to watch. The first thing that must be understood is what qualifies a movie for an R certification. This R certification can be issued because of many different reasons for example; clear and convincing actively flowing blood (not a puddle or a bit of red makeup on an actor), frequent use of vulgar language, nudity, and clear and convincing drug use (Rebecca, 2010). To fully understand where the Motion Picture Association of America comes from with their certifications, there must be some background knowledge of the former certification system called the Hays Code. The Hays Code was implemented in 1930 and, while it may not be used anymore, inspired the Motion Picture Association of America s certification system; the Hays Code is religion based, several of the ideas have been reformed today, and moralistic in fact, one of the general principals is No picture shall be produced that will lower the moral standards of those who see it. • 24. Understanding the Black Power Movement IntroductionUnderstanding the Black Power Movement as it relates to the creation of Black or African American study programs and departments is to recognize the efforts of radical student activists on college campuses. The prevailing thought of the Black existence casted doubt on the importance of Black/African studies at colleges and universities. Blacks, unfortunately, were thought to not have a history, or at least one not worth examining, in the American existence and even within world civilization. However, such as notion is baseless. In the tens of thousands of years of civilization, Africans have witnessed and contributed to the productivity of the human existence. The great salt and gold kingdoms of the Ghanaian and Malian Empires thrived long before the Hapsburg and Bourbon dynasties rules Spain and France, respectively. Yet, the contributions of those great African civilizations were often ignored in the historiography of early civilizations. Even the contributions of the Ancient Egyptians have become part of the ensemble of the Greek and Roman tragedy, removing Egypt from the history of Africa. The contributions of Black Americans in the history of the United States were virtually absent prior to the creation of Black Study programs and departments. The assumption of Black history was that it included the 300 plus years of enslavement, the Civil War (where student are indoctrinated to believe that President Lincoln intended on freeing Blacks) and then the more ... The concentrated, massive amount of animals in one place requires much resources, generates a huge amount of wastes which are highly harmful to the surrounding environment. Furthermore, only a small fraction of feed additives in intensive animal agricultureis metabolized in the animal s body, while the rest goes unchanged into the urine and manure. Indiscriminate use of arsenic compounds in agricultural activities during the 20th century has caused widespread soil pollution (Liu 273). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Environmental Protection Agency has blamed the current farming practices for 70% of the pollution in the nation s rivers and streams. They reports that runoff of chemicals, silt, and animal waste from U.S. farmland has polluted more than 173,000 miles of waterways in 1998. These natural resources are being depleted at a faster rate than they can self replenish (Horrigan 447). Livestock are fed with genetically engineered corn and soy instead of pasture which means that a lot of energy is used up by the animal during the conversion of grains eaten to meat. Extensive monocultures of grain feedlots used to supply diet in factory farms means the use of huge amounts of pesticides which pollutes ground water and emits nitrous oxide (Horrigan 450). According to a 2006 report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), animal agriculture is responsible for 18 percent of all human induced greenhouse gas emissions, including 37 percent of methane emissions and 65 percent of nitrous oxide emissions. The methane releases from billions of imprisoned animals on factory farms are 70 times more damaging per ton to the earth s atmosphere than CO2. Ideas about homosexuality and AIDS affect the type of treatment that Prior receives and the way that his loved ones interact with him. The 1980s were particularly devastating for the gay men. 1985 marked the beginning of President Reagan s second term. Reagan is mentioned several times over the course of part 1 not only to set a political backdrop for the series, but also challenges the audience to question why the government was so slow to respond to this issue. Reagan didn t even give his first speech on HIV/AIDS until years after the on start of the epidemic and after thousands of lives had been lost. In this context, it is fair to assume that HIV/AIDS really became an epidemic through the lack of immediate action from the government and medical establishments that can be directly attributed to homophobic. From its onset, there was widespread fear of contamination as AIDS was constructed as a fatal infectious disease that threatened to wipe out mankind. It was also seen as a gay plague or punishment for sexually abnormal behavior.Angels in America is not merely a political critique, but an act of political resistance and a beacon of hope. I had five different observations, each for one hour at the West Chester Area Day Care. I sat in classroom seven, in a little chair in the corner writing down everything I observed about him. It was interesting to learn about Z as I watched him interact with the adults and other kids that were in the room with him. Z caught my attentionright away in the classroom. He was very active, walkingaround while the other children were mainly sittingor only crawling. This lead me to choose him to observe for this project, and focus on his physical movement and interactions with others throughout this paper. Z was always moving around, the only time he was ever sitting still was when he was placed in a height chair for snack time. He switched between crawling and walking. Most of the time he would walk, but then he would fall down and continue to wherever his destination was by crawling. I noticed one day he was holding a maraca and walked for a longer period of time than usual. According to (page 183 infants children and adolescents), it is easier for them to focus on their balance when they are holding onto an object. He demonstrated the ability t squat down and picking something up, before returning to a standing position. The adults encouraged his walking behaviors, so when the group came in from the outside playground, they would let him walk in, while most of the other kids were being pushed in the giant stroller. The average age for most kids to begin walking is 11 months and 3 weeks, the range being 9 to 17 months, so he his definitely on track for his age group (182). He was also able to climb up onto things. For example, when the children were brought on walks around the neighborhood there was a giant stroller that they rode in as mentioned earlier. Z got up the step and turned himself around to sit down in the seat. He did the same thing on some of the steps on the playground, crawling up one and turning himself around to sit. • 32. Why Is Adrienne Rich Claiming An Education Summary In Adrienne Rich s essay, Claiming an Education , the author speaks about the female experience against the male dominated academic scene. Despite the fact that this essay was written in 1979, a number of Rich s points seem timeless. Rich encourages young women to insist on a life of meaningful work. As a seventeen year old student, I have often heard from my femalecompanions that they anticipate a higher educationas an opportunity to hunt down a spouse. The frequency and zeal of this conclusion, seeing education only as means of marriage, strikes me as particularly pitiful and archaic. Adrienne Rich s thesis in Claiming an Education aptly expresses the array of roles women hold in societies, the benefits, and weaknesses of our education system, as well as the struggles that women are exposed to. She successfully develops her thesis statement by the effective use of a variety of methods of development and various literary devices to improve her writingquality and to help readers interpret her message. I agree with Rich s thesis statement because education entails being responsible for oneself, not just for women, but for all students. Rich uses effective methods of development to further expand her thesis statement. The use of compare and contrast and definition is seen in certain sections of the essay. Comparing and contrasting illuminates the subtle differences and similarities, which increases the reader s understanding. For instance, Rich compares the definitions ... Difference Between A Pert And Gantt Chart Compare and contrast the information that one receives from a Gantt chart, versus that of a PERT diagram A significant piece of project management is organization. Both Pert and Gantt charts are essential tools that are utilized by project managers in creating a project schedule. Both types of charts offer tools for managers to examine projects through visualization, helping divide responsibilities into controllable parts. An important difference between a PERT chart and a Gantt chart is the way the information is presented. Gantt charts display information in the design of a bar chart. This representation helps show the percentage of work accomplished for each task. On the other hand, PERT shows data as a network model. Meaning that a PERT chart displays an earlier node from which tasks branch out. This helps project managers envision the arrangement of tasks. Together PERT and Gantt charts will show the tasks to be accomplished, but the charts highlight dissimilar parts. A Gantt chart s primary focus is on the ratio completion of each task, without indicating the connection that two tasks may have to each other. While PERT typically does not show the percentage completed, PERT employs a network model, which makes it is easy to see which tasks depend on each other, it typically does not show the percentage of completed tasks. • 44. What Is A Just War When is it alright for one country to attack another? This is something many people have tried to define throughout the centuries. Warfarge changes, morals change, and society change very frequently, to make certain, when the use of force against another country has been okay. The use of military force against another country is only just, when it is used strictly in self defense. What exactly is a just war? By definition, it is a war that is morally or ideologically justified, by either society or an international authority. The just wartheory states that war must be a last resort at all times, there must be a large chance of success, and the benefits must outweigh the cost of the actions. War has quite a hefty price tag on it, as many countries have to borrow money to fund it, as seen in the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which put us trillions more in debt. For this reason the war is rarely needed, as there is plenty to lose and little to gain. Speaking from a humanitarian point of view the cost of human life is greater than the monetary cost of war. Which it is, it is the greatest and most regrettable part of war, because a person cannot be replaced the same way that money can. The loss of human life has been the deciding factor on whether countries should use force or if they should not. Almost no one wants to live with the thought that thousands of lives were lost by their hands. The United Nations is the highest authority on whether to deem a cause just or condemning it. In chapter 7 of it states that the use of force is just only if used in self defense or the security council authorizes it. It also states in its charter for its member nations to refrain from using force or the threat thereof in their international ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through the influences of people and events, Mary Shelley was able to write about friendship and alienation in Frankenstein. The creation of life is at the center of the novel, and the creation of Mary s life plays a big part in who she was from birth until her death. When Mary returned home to London, her house on Skinner Street was constantly busy with different writers and thinkers who came to sit and talk with Godwin. Percy Bysshe Shelley was an admirer of Godwin s, and wrote to him in request to be a regular houseguest.
