Impact Report: Future City Summit Annual Meet 2016 is produced by Future City Summit in The University of Hong Kong. FCS2016 was the curation founding year of the organisation and the Summit through the support of the Global Partnership Seed Fund by the Vice President Office of The University of Hong Kong.
The FCS2016 gathered 80 delegates from emerging Southeast Asia and South Asia to explore the urban development challenges. Design Jam(Hackathon) was conducted for generating actionable items with proposals for the follow-up projects.

Big Background
The ideation of Urban Resilience refers to “capability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from significant multi-
hazard threats and its measurement index provides a framework and perspectives in assessing the development a
city relative to the global development, economically, technologically, environmentally and socially. The concept
“Urban Resilience” penetrates the discussion and lenses set in the coming “Future City Summit”, giving a full picture
of city development as a human hardware thinking ecosystem and it progression.

The Global Southern Belt forms with the shifting of manufacturing, capital flows and economic strategy from the
Northern Hemisphere to the South, including the region in Asia such as South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia

The Belt and Road Initiative of China promotes a strong tie to developing countries in Asia for developing
connectivity in city development, including infrastructure, business, culture, education and humanity The
initiative echoes the development and rise of the Global Southern Belt and its more resilient region as a whole.

Smart city is a urban development vision to integrate multiple information and communication technology (ICT) solutions in
a secure fashion to manage a city’s assets – the city’s assets include, but not limited to, local departments information
systems, schools, libraries, transportation systems, hospitals, power plants, law enforcement, and other community
services. The goal of building a smart city is to improve quality of life by using technology to improve the efficiency of
services and meet residents’ needs.

Future City Summit this year(2016) was hosted in The
University of Hong Kong with 70 participating delegates
from 14 cities in Asia-Pacific, with very diverse
background, from architecture to business and social
sciences.
11 teams of 6 were competing in Metro-Hackathon, the
Hong Kong’s first hackathon on United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals, particular on Quality
Education and Resilient and Sustainable Cities.
