Sak Saki The Interlopers Analysis
Grudges, feuds and revenge also have the result of making others have a view of discouragement and
a gloomy outlook on events. In the short story, The Interlopers by Saki, two characters Ulrich and
Georg have been feuding for a long time over the agreement of a plot of land that past generation
families have owned. During a treacherous storm, both men get crushed under an immense tree. Saki
states Both men spoke with bitterness of possible defeat before them, for each knew that it might be
long before his men would seek him out or find him; it was a bare matter of chance which party would
arrive first on the scene. (Saki, 85) Here, Saki is explaining the event that had happened and how the
two men had quickly giving up in being saved and already a pessimistic look on the outcomes of what
could happen. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Ban Of Medical Marijuana
Charlotte Figi, a six year old girl, had an untreatable form of epilepsy and used medical marijuana to
save her life. Her parents had tried almost every medication to try and save her by the time she was
two years old. Some nights she would get fifty seizures each night. Finally, her parents were able to
get her a medical marijuana card in Colorado, and the new medication immediately stopped the
seizures (Gummow, 8 Miraculous, para. 4, alternet.org). This is just one example of how unjust the
ban of medicinal marijuana is. The ban of medical marijuana is unjust because people who need the
medicine have been arrested and sent to prison for decades, the ban is based on outdated moral biases,
and although some may argue that marijuana is a gateway drug, people who wish to use medicinal
marijuana are using it to relieve specific symptoms that are not addressed by harder drugs. Charlotte s
epilepsy is not the only condition for which medical marijuana can be used. First, the website
ProCon.org states that medical marijuana is useful for sufferers of Alzheimer s Disease, anorexia,
AIDS, cancer, Crohn s Disease, and many others (For Which Symptoms, para. 1, procon.org). Studies
show that drugs, such as cocaine, and alcohol inhibit the growth of new brain cells. However, research
conducted at Scripps Research in San Diego demonstrates that marijuana encourages neural growth.
THC, one of the primary beneficial compounds found in cannabis, eases pain, minimizes

The Pros And Cons Of Representative Democracy
We chose to institute a direct democracy instead of a representative democracy. A direct democracy
occurs when all of the citizens propose and vote on laws. This is modeled after the Assembly in
ancient Athens. In contrast, a representative democracy happens when the people elect a representative
who proposes laws for them and a group of government officials vote to pass or reject the law, which
is similar to the current government of the United States of America. One of the biggest issues with a
representative democracy is that it s very easy to influence or bribe the officials. As a result, the
bribers nearly always have the officials on their side. These bribes are in the form of campaign
donations. An example of this bribery would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not all of the positions for government offices are filled through an election; many are filled simply
by an important government official deciding who gets the job. This correlates with the issue
mentioned previously about bias. In the United States of America, the seats for the Supreme Court are
filled by the President rather than an election. Therefore, if the President is very conservative, he will
appoint judges to the Supreme Court who have rulings which contain more conservative than liberal
ideas. In addition, many other governmental posts are filled with people who are liked by those in
higher positions. This proves one of the biggest arguments against a representative government. Even
though people choose the representatives, there are so many positions that are filled without an
election, the people don t actually have a voice in the selection process. But the biggest benefit of a
direct democracy is that the people actually get a say instead of appointing a representative and hoping
that the representatives won t end up being close minded to the needs of all the people. Also, because
the people will actually get a say, then there won t always be complaints that someone didn t get a
voice. Of course there will still be people who are unhappy, but this is to be expected in a democratic
system. A direct democracy dismantles almost all of the other

A Person s Environment Is The Same Opportunity At The End...
Every person struggle is different. Some have worked sweat and tears for their achievements while
others have had things just handed to them and do not really know the struggle of hard work. Some
people work as hard as they can and at the end of the day, they still cannot seem to succeed, as they
would like to. They can work hard, live a good legal life, and yet still cannot make ends meet at the
end of the day. The film Trading places, and the Not everybody in America has the same opportunity
to be successful because one person s environment may be much rougher than another person
environment. A person s environment is a key factor in their success. A person born into poverty is
going to have a much harder time to get ahead than a person that is born into a wealthy family or
environment. It is as if they are already in a negative situation before they even have a chance to begin
life. A person born into poverty doesn t have that extra time to do homework at home because they
might have to be home taking care of other siblings while guardians are at work. Sometimes they
might not even be at home babysitting; they might have to get a job themselves because the money
situation is so tight at home. While a person born to a wealthier family has that extra time to study,
that person has the extra time to participate in extracurricular activities that might be a key to success.
They do not have to worry about little things, which allow them to concentrate all of their time,

Local procurement of materials provides an ease in production at the plant in Hangzhou. Costs are one
area that attention is paid so that they can be kept within reason ensuring an affordable product.
Throughout the process careful negotiations must be done to ensure there are adequate materials as
well as manpower to fulfill the orders that have been placed by customers. The plant has the ability to
produce a large amount of stock fans as well as special order merchandise. With specialty orders the
process for procurement shift slightly because of the unique nature of the order and the variety of
materials that may be used as well. With the procurement of the polymer done locally this also
expedites the production process simply because logistics will not be an issue. The necessary
machinery for manufacturing is onsite for quick manufacturing times that can quickly move into the
production lines for assembly. Assembly leads way into storage for sales. Orders can be filled at the
plant as well as shipped directly to the buyer both within China and internationally. Depending on the
final destination of the merchandise there are multiple companies that are used to ensure the fastest
shipping time to the buyer. Potential trouble could arise if there was

The Australian Stock Exchange Goes
The Australian stock exchange goes as far back as the mid 1800s. Australian originally had six
separate exchanges throughout the country. The first stock exchange in Australia was founded in 1861
in Melbourne followed by the Sydney, Hobart, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth one in each capital of
every Australian state. In 1937 the Australian Associated Stock Exchange (AASE) was to establish to
secure rules for brokers and commission rates. Representatives from each exchange were present to
represent their exchange at the AASE. Up until 1960 trades were made by a call system in which the
names of each company was called out and broker put in their bids. Post 1960s the system changed
and they hired employees called chalkies who wrote bids and offers on a board throughout the trading
hours and recorded all transactions.
On April 1st, 1987 the Australian Parliament formed the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX). This
caused the merging of all six independent stock exchanges throughout the country into one national
exchange instead of six separate state run institutions. Along with establishing a national exchange
they also launched a new trading system call the Stock Exchange Automated Trading System
(SEATS), in response to the increased volume of exchanges. This was a significant improvement from
the chalk and board method, which had been used for almost a century. Before the establishment of
the ASX there had been three forms of trading in the Australian stock exchange. The

The Tally Stick Essay

Prof. Fraustino
Intro. To Poetry
Peer Review Paper #1 The Tally Stick
In the poem The Tally Stick , Jarold Ramsey uses a stick to symbolize the relationship between two
people. Carved notches, arrowheads, and other symbols along the grain of the stick each have their
own special meaning and represent certain events that occurred within these people s lives together.
Though over the time, the stick becomes whittled down and weakened; those carvings are a testament
to the strength and endurance of their relationship. Stanza two of the poem takes time to reveal what
each individual notch or marking on the tally stick represents in their actual lives. The most intricate
carving described represents the day of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author then says that the lengthening runes of our lives run through it all (19). Runes being
something written in characters, the characters used to describe the personal events within the
relationship surpasses the historical events that occurred. At the end of the poem, the final product of
the tally stick is described. It had been carved all the way from end to end with meaningful events and
occurrences that helped to shape an entire relationship. It is conveyed as being delicate as scrimshaw
(21), scrimshaw being the word for patterns and designs engraved on fragile materials such as whale
bone. The tally stick is now so lessened, that it would not be able to bear you up (21) or support you
were you to lean on it. Though positive experiences were revealed in the beginning of the poem, such
as the children and the wedding, the author also makes it a point to say that there were also regrets
throughout the time he spent with his partner. The wood was polished...hand over hand with the regret,
meaning their hands ran over the wood so often thinking of mistakes that were made that it was
smoothed down. The line and in one another s blameless eyes go blind (27) shows that throughout
time, and throughout all the events that happened, the two individuals do not hold anything against
one another and one person is not more responsible for anything that happened than the other. The
Tally Stick describes all of the events that

Tennessee Coal Sludge Disaster
What Happened? The largest environmental disaster in U.S. history occurred on December 22nd, 2008
when a 84 acre pit containing toxic coal combustion residue at the Tennessee Valley Authority Fossil
Plant in Kingston, Tennessee gave way. According to a report by AECOM, the firm hired to perform
the root cause report, a combination of the high water content of the wet ash, the increasing height of
ash, the construction of the sloping dikes over the wet ash, and the existence of an unusual bottom
layer of ash and silt were among the long evolving conditions that caused the ash spill at Kingston
Fossil Plant (TVA, 2010). The resulting slide sent a wave of over a billion gallons of sludge out on the

States also create 120 million tons of toxic waste. That means each of the nation s 500 coal fired

What was dangerous about this spill? The Tennessee Coal Valley plant in a press release detailing the

Good Journalism and Citizenship
The world is a hectic mess today. News is happening all around us, and the only source that acts as a
filter between the chaos and ourselves is the media. The media, journalists especially, must hold upon
themselves a great responsibility when they are acting as this filtering apparatus between the ordered
and unordered. But is that the only thing journalism does: make sense of the news? No, it does much
more than that. Good journalism is working, with help from the citizenry, to create an enlightened
Republic filled with citizens who will be well informed of the events which intersect their lives. There
are a number of measures, though, that journalists must take before they can go from simply making
sense of the news to creating an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And this is not only a discussion between citizens and citizens or leaders and leaders but rather
between citizens and leaders; the press simply acts as a medium. Justice Douglas wrote in New York
Times Co. v. United States that [o]pen debate and discussion of public issues are vital to our national
health. On public questions there should be uninhibited, robust, and wide open debate. Although
debate and discussion are vital to the Republic, maybe society should rethink about how uninhibited,
robust, and wide open those debates really are. Society today tends to think of debates as two
opposing ideas battling each other out in order to ascertain which idea comes out in first, and, as
Kovach and Rosenstiel point out, a debate focused only on the extremes of argument does not serve
the public but instead leaves most citizens out (167). The problem with this is that there are not only
one or two given positions on any given issue, but there are many positions. In the debates that go on
today, those positions which are often left out are often those which are also most agreeable with each
other. So instead of letting debates focus only on the extremes, [t]he public forum must include the
broad areas of agreement, where most of the public resides and where the solutions to society s
problems are found (Kovach and Rosenstiel 167). And since it is the news media which

The Sniper By Liam O Flaherty And Shadowman From The Fear
Characterization Essay When I was younger, I used to play football. I was also tall compared to other
people in my grade and thought that I was big and bad because a lot of little kids think that way and I
was the same way. By thinking that I was all big and bad, I was trying to make myself seem
dangerous, but I was not. However, there are people who are actually dangerous, and are able to show
it instead of thinking about it and talking about it. For example, the Sniper from The Sniper by Liam O

His enemy had been hit (O Flaherty 4). This shows that the Sniper is a good shooter. 50 yards is quite
a ways away, and he was injured with only a revolver left, a gun that is not meant for long ranges, and
it is in the middle of the night, so he cannot see the enemy very well either. The Sniper is still able to
hit his target well, and this is impressive and shows that the sniper is dangerous because of his
abilities. The Sniper is able to come up with a plan that is risky, and then he is also able to execute the
plan as well. The plan would go to waste if he was not able to hit the enemy, but he does hit him and
that makes the Sniper very dangerous, he is able to come up with magnificent plans and is able to
execute them to. The Fear is book 3 in The Enemy series. In the series, all of the mothers and the

The Prisoner s Dilemma
This semester so far in Core 5, we have learned about the Prisoner s Dilemma. It is a situation in
which people each have options as to how to react to something. However, what is unique about this
decision, is that each person s decision is directly affected by the other person s decision, and vice
versa. The outcome of their reaction is dependent on what the other person decided to say. The popular
example is of two prisoners who each must separately decide on whether or not to confess to a crime.
Each prisoner has the choice as to confess to the crime or to deny their own involvement. This is just
an example, though, as the Prisoner s Dilemma can be applied to many different scenarios. As it

ignore this, they continue to release careless levels of carbon dioxide without any care in the world
and continue to ruin our planet. We, as inhabitants of earth, have an obligation to take action and start
taking care of our home. Some people, perhaps, choose not to take action because it would be too
difficult or too expensive but that is simply not true. You can take a stand at home by simply adjusting

In any Democracy, voter turnout is important as a measure of how truly democratic the election was,
the more people that do vote, the more democratic the election. Yet America one of the largest
democratic nations in the world still has a poor turnout.
A survey conducted in 1983 concluded that America was twenty third out of twenty four nations in

In America there electoral system resembles a modified version of the British first past the post system
therefore if you live in an electoral college that has voted Democrat time and time again, it may seem
like a wasted vote if you support the Republicans. Also the success polls that are conducted from the
very first primaries and caucuses right up to election day build voter apathy. Statistically those who do
higher in these polls the better they will do in the election, assuming that people vote without partisan
alignment, they aren t going to vote for a candidate who is unlikely to do well in the election.
The US voting system includes voter registration, controlled at a state level, often it is a longwinded
process, with many forms, and a lot of scrutiny over who gets to register. There are various restrictions
in who can register, often convicted criminals cannot vote, and in some extremes neither can there
families e.g. California in the 2000 election. Rules vary from state to state, some allow registration 28
days before election time and others allow registration on the day of the election e.g. Wisconsin.
Statistics show that in states where there is election day registration turnout is ten percentage points
higher than in those without. Despite these figures there has sill been an overall

The Caine Mutiny Analysis of the Book and the Movie
Every time I read a book, which made into a future film later, with my daughter, we always watch its
movie after reading the book. When we talk about the book and the movie after, we have been harsh
on the film. There is always something lacking in the movie due to the fact that certain demands of
movie industry and time constraints. The Caine Mutiny, the book and the movie are not free from the
generalizations. The movie, a classic drama, with its cast, is amazing, however, they only packed that
much into two hours. While the movie has so many memorable moments from the book, time
constraints mainly caused beginning and last part of the book to be left out completely. Moreover, the
book is about mainly maturity of Willie Keith, his relationship with his mother, his father and,
girlfriend, his struggle to be independent, his reactions to the behavior of different captains, whereas,
the focus of the movie shifted to the events around commanding and leadership of a navy ship, the
Caine. Moreover, throughout the book, Willie s interaction with Tom Keefer plays an important role
from the moment he stepped in the Caine until the end of the book, however, the movie focused on
other characters, Captain Queeg and Mr. Maryk more.
I think the first leadership moment is that when Willie met with The Captain De Vriess with half
naked in his office? This scene is slightly different in the book in a way that Mr. Keith and Mr.

The Mending Wall by Robert Frost
Robert Frost was not just a writer. Frost was, more importantly, an American writer whose works
epitomized the Modernist literary movement, and in turn represented the mood and minds of a nation.
Frost remains emblematic of a specific time in our country. Through the words of the poet, readers of
his day could see a real time reflection of themselves visible in
Frost s verses were the hopes and apprehensions that marked the first half of the twentieth century.
However, in his ability to express this unlikely mixture of cynicism and sentiment,

However, it probable that which does not love a wall is not simple nature, but Human Nature.
The frozen ground swell is the cold heart that permeates the building of such a wall, and the eventual
warming of the heart spills the upper boulders in the sun . For Frost, a man living in a time when the

were big enough that ...two could pass abreast. This is an important idea. The holes in the wall were

wall, both that which is restricted and that which restricts, are allowed simultaneous freedom of
movement. This is an exemplary idea for a time when many restraints in America, socially and
physically, were being defied. Further in the poem, the speaker tells of the mending of the wall with,

Industrialization Causes Corruption in Businesses
No man can be a good citizen unless he has a wage more than sufficient to cover the bare cost of
living, and hours of labor short enough so that after his day s work is done he will have time and
energy to bear his share in the management of the community, to help in carrying the general load. We
keep countless men from being good citizens by the conditions of life with which we surround them.
We need comprehensive workmen s compensation acts, both State and national laws to regulate child
labor and work for women, said 26th president of United States Theodore Roosevelt as he was
explaining how industrialization had ruined people s lives ( Colby 515). Industrialization is defined as
the large scale introduction of manufacturing, advanced technical enterprises, and other productive
economic activity into a society. Industrialization is a huge aspect of society and especially in
America. After the American Civil War in 1861, a lot southern plantation owners were living in
poverty because they lost their land. Emancipated slaves were also living in poverty because most
them didn t have a job, but as industrialization grew in America, more people were attracted to the
cities up North. A lot of southerners and emancipated slaves traveled up North because of job
opportunities. But this proved to be a horrible mistake. These people were working in gruesome
conditions and were exploited. So the question is, what does industrialization do to a society?

business buildings to be transformed into housing and apartment complexes. Many middle and ...

The Death Of Alzheimer s Brain
Introduction: Lost keys, an overlooked name, requiring an additional minute to recall where you
stopped your auto. No doubt we re talking average absentmindedness or simply ordinary age related
changes, not Alzheimer s ailment. In any case, when you start battling with errands that have
dependably been simple (e.g., abruptly not having the capacity to adjust the checkbook) that is more
reason for concernsaid by Nancy Udelson. Despite the way that 5.1 million individuals age 65 and
more seasoned are as of now influenced by Alzheimer s, it is not a typical some portion of maturing
(however the danger rises with age). It is a dynamic issue that assaults the cerebrum s nerve cells,
clarifies Ditty Steinberg, the official VP of the Alzheimer s Establishment of America. The brains of
individuals who have Alzheimer s are stopped up with injuries that conform to the outside of neurons,
eventually annihilating these mind cells. As the person born after WW2 populace gets more
established, the rate of Alzheimer s is anticipated to blast, influencing upwards of 16 million
individuals by 2050, unless therapeutic achievements distinguish approaches to forestall or all the
more viably treat the illness. In the event that you have relatives who have experienced Alzheimer s,
you may think about whether you re at higher danger, however just the early onset type of the malady

Book Review: Post Holocaust Interpretation, Misinterpretation, and the Claims of History
In this account of Post Holocaust publication, Berel Lang presents thoroughly researched information
that rebuts some of the common moral, historical and theological claims of the events that took place
during this period. The content and the events and ideas discussed in this book are focused on the
possibility of this historical event with all the sadism and evil that it brings to mind is able to define a
post holocaust, with those who survived the event as well as historical scholars of the era introducing
new ways of the reconstruction of the events that took place as well as their ramifications. In addition,
the holocaust appears to be an historical event taken advantage of by people from various perspectives
for various reasons other than that of that of using it as a cautionary benchmark to deter reoccurrence
of such an event ever again. This is a fact the author struggles with throughout the book and one that
works in his favor by bestowing a moral authority over his scholarly reflections. The first chapter is
entitle The Nazi as Criminal inside and outside the Holocaust, and is indicative of the issues Lang
confronts. One outstanding question here is the focus given to the
Nazi atrocities against the Jews as compared to non Jews in the same period more so the Second
World War as comparative framework. Lang points at the heinous acts committed in Lidice and the

The First Data Set Is From Real Estate Business Intelligence
The first data set was from Real Estate Business Intelligence (RBI), formerly the custom solutions
branch of the Mid Atlantic Multiple Listing Service (MLS)/Metropolitan Regional Information

Maryland from January 1, 2010 to March 1, 2016 and their corresponding home characteristics. The
home characteristics were chosen based on the generally perceived impact on property value,
completeness of information, and feasibility of analysis. For example, characteristics like Type of

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
The topic that I chose to research is Seasonal Affective Disorder, also abbreviated as SAD. This topic
is very relevant to me since I am one of those that suffer. It is very common, and most people who
have it, don t even realize it. An astounding 1 in 3 people suffer with SAD (Molloy, 2014). Seasonal
Affective Disorder is a type of depression that is observed within a certain period of time. This time
frame is from fall to spring, and usually it is around the same time length for everyone. While often
misunderstood as just those gloomy winter days , Seasonal Affective Disorder is very serious and if
not handled correctly, can result in continued depression throughout the year. Another very important
misconception, is that Seasonal Affective Disorder only affects people in the winter. Although less
common, some deal with SAD in the summer months as well. Seasonal Affective Disorder affects
many people nationwide and can seriously deteriorate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Having dealt with this myself, I know that it can majorly deteriorate the mental health of the sufferer.
It starts out as feeling slightly fatigued and wanting to sleep more, and increases at a rapid rate to
sometimes severe side effects, like suicidal thoughts or actions. Other symptoms and signs to look for
are a weight gain, loss of interest, tiredness, difficulty concentrating and staying on task, and thoughts
of hopelessness and worry (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2017). While not all of these symptoms are applicable
to all sufferers, many people face these obstacles through the entirety of winter. In the cases of SAD in
the summer, symptoms are generally the opposite. Things to pay attention to in the summer are
troubles sleeping, weight loss, anxiety and restlessness (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2017). Though these two
types of Seasonal Affective Disorder are fairly contradictory symptome wise, they both affect many

Liberty And Social Order
Essay The human mind is capable of painting freedom as limitless. Liberty to it perhaps means,
complete freedom to do as one desires or the state of being free within society from onerous
constraints inflicted by an authority in one s particular choice of life, personal or political opinions.
The use and consequences of freedom reflect in the social order of our lives. It reflects in the social
structures, relations, customs, values and practices, which actually preserve, maintain certain manner
of socializing and carrying oneself. The balanced or the unbalanced relationship of liberty and social
order decides the progress or the downfall of any particular society. The modern American
conservatism mentions, Individuals possess the right to life, liberty, and property, and freedom from
the restrictions of arbitrary force. They exercise these rights through the use of their natural free will.
That means the ability to follow your own dreams, to do what you want to (so long as you don t harm
others) and reap the rewards (or face the penalties). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Jefferson once said, We hold these truths to be self evident, all men are created equal, that they are
endowed by the Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the
pursuit of Happiness. (Jacobus

Minimum Cleanliness Level The Oil
The industries standard for this are set by ISO standards. The minimum cleanliness level the oil must
have is ISO 18/16/13. Each number in this number code represents the maximum allowable number of
particles in the oil greater than 2 microns, 5 microns, and 15 microns in size respectively. Hard to
implement in our design (can t justify this concisely) not really necessary?
The filtration system configuration can be seen below in Figure 4. The pump draws the oil out of the
sump and through a prefilter. It then positively directs the oil towards the solenoid valve which directs
it through one of the two parallel filtration systems. Each filtration system is equipped with a 10
micron filter and two 4 micron filters set in a parallel configuration. The oil then passes through the 10
micron filter which will remove all particles of 10 microns in size or greater. The oil then enters a flow
divider valve which properly diverts the oil to two separate 4 micron filters for further oil cleansing.
Likewise, the 4 micron filters will remove all particles of 4 microns or greater. From here, the oil
flows through a check ball valve to ensure no backflow into the filters. This is necessary due to the
merging of the two parallel 4 micron filters. After leaving the first filter configuration the oil is then
directed towards the cooling system. However before it reaches the cooler, it passes an alternate route
towards the bypass filtration system. This system does not circulate

Taking a Look at the City of Atlanta
Revenue Trends
With the continued sluggish economy, Atlanta s total revenue projections continue to decline from the
budget dating back to 2010 when the current mayor Kasim Reed took office. The City s property tax
base is the primary component accounting for 40% of the City s general fund revenues. Property tax
revenues have continued to experience declines associated with decreased residential tax bases,
negative reassessments, successful tax appeals and continued weakness in the housing market. The
City has demonstrated a measured response by continuing to budget property tax revenue collection
conservatively. To meet the projections, the collection rate in the proposed budget was set to rise to
98%, up from the previous year s collection rate of 96% (Pendered 2013). Public utility, alcoholic
beverages and other taxes are the second largest revenue source, at 23% resulting from franchise
agreements of the use of the City s right of way in providing public utilities such as
telecommunications, gas and electric and from taxes imposed on businesses operating in the City of
Atlanta. Sales tax revenue is the third largest share of general fund revenues accounting for nearly
20% of revenue anticipations. Sales tax revenue is extremely flexible due to changes in economic
performance associated with disposable income and unemployment levels. Despite still declining
revenues, the budget avoids service cuts and property tax hikes, while adding about a million dollars

Riku Hiroshima Bombing Effects
World War II was a very violent and hostile time for the entire world. Countries like Japan and China
were gravely affected by the catastrophes that ensued during this time, and are continuing to grapple
with its effects on a personal and institutional level. This has ultimately effected the ways in which
younger generations have come to understand this influential period in history while teachings of the
facts, representation, and recollections of World War II in the public school systems vary, as
misunderstandings and clashing of ideas still exist even almost a decade later.

She remembers learning about World War II with negative bias towards European countries, and Japan
especially, as they were told that China was attacked by Japan. Some of the messages she remembers
claimed that China s involvement in World War II was purely self defense, the Communist Party was
the key to victory, and Japan was defeated by Chinese resistance. Jie also does not remember any of
her classes or textbooks mentioning the Chinese famine that killed millions during this era. The
ultimate message of World War II lessons was that China prevented Japan from taking over the world,
in order to justify their own actions. Chinese also often scolds Japan for not teaching an accurate
history of World War II, although much of the information, including those in Chinese textbooks, Jie
has come to realize, was screened. Therefore many events were merely ignored based on what the
Chinese government deemed as too controversial. She explains that China continues to desire global
support for Japan not to be allowed to downplay their own atrocities in textbooks and public schools,
although her own country may also be guilty of this. She also remembers learning about many facts
during this time but was not always given an explanation of why these events occurred. Jie would

  • 2. Sak Saki The Interlopers Analysis Grudges, feuds and revenge also have the result of making others have a view of discouragement and a gloomy outlook on events. In the short story, The Interlopers by Saki, two characters Ulrich and Georg have been feuding for a long time over the agreement of a plot of land that past generation families have owned. During a treacherous storm, both men get crushed under an immense tree. Saki states Both men spoke with bitterness of possible defeat before them, for each knew that it might be long before his men would seek him out or find him; it was a bare matter of chance which party would arrive first on the scene. (Saki, 85) Here, Saki is explaining the event that had happened and how the two men had quickly giving up in being saved and already a pessimistic look on the outcomes of what could happen. ... This shows how from the feud of Ulrich and Georg and the settlement of who got the forest land had caused the two to automatically think with discouragement and the gloomy events that could occur. Along with the gloomy vibes that come from grudges, feuds and revenge that occur in The Interlopers , they also arise in the short story, Death By Scrabble by Charlie Fish. • 3. The Ban Of Medical Marijuana Charlotte Figi, a six year old girl, had an untreatable form of epilepsy and used medical marijuana to save her life. Her parents had tried almost every medication to try and save her by the time she was two years old. Some nights she would get fifty seizures each night. Finally, her parents were able to get her a medical marijuana card in Colorado, and the new medication immediately stopped the seizures (Gummow, 8 Miraculous, para. 4, alternet.org). This is just one example of how unjust the ban of medicinal marijuana is. The ban of medical marijuana is unjust because people who need the medicine have been arrested and sent to prison for decades, the ban is based on outdated moral biases, and although some may argue that marijuana is a gateway drug, people who wish to use medicinal marijuana are using it to relieve specific symptoms that are not addressed by harder drugs. Charlotte s epilepsy is not the only condition for which medical marijuana can be used. First, the website ProCon.org states that medical marijuana is useful for sufferers of Alzheimer s Disease, anorexia, AIDS, cancer, Crohn s Disease, and many others (For Which Symptoms, para. 1, procon.org). Studies show that drugs, such as cocaine, and alcohol inhibit the growth of new brain cells. However, research conducted at Scripps Research in San Diego demonstrates that marijuana encourages neural growth. • 4. The Pros And Cons Of Representative Democracy We chose to institute a direct democracy instead of a representative democracy. A direct democracy occurs when all of the citizens propose and vote on laws. This is modeled after the Assembly in ancient Athens. In contrast, a representative democracy happens when the people elect a representative who proposes laws for them and a group of government officials vote to pass or reject the law, which is similar to the current government of the United States of America. One of the biggest issues with a representative democracy is that it s very easy to influence or bribe the officials. As a result, the bribers nearly always have the officials on their side. These bribes are in the form of campaign donations. An example of this bribery would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not all of the positions for government offices are filled through an election; many are filled simply by an important government official deciding who gets the job. This correlates with the issue mentioned previously about bias. In the United States of America, the seats for the Supreme Court are filled by the President rather than an election. Therefore, if the President is very conservative, he will appoint judges to the Supreme Court who have rulings which contain more conservative than liberal ideas. In addition, many other governmental posts are filled with people who are liked by those in higher positions. This proves one of the biggest arguments against a representative government. Even though people choose the representatives, there are so many positions that are filled without an election, the people don t actually have a voice in the selection process. But the biggest benefit of a direct democracy is that the people actually get a say instead of appointing a representative and hoping that the representatives won t end up being close minded to the needs of all the people. Also, because the people will actually get a say, then there won t always be complaints that someone didn t get a voice. Of course there will still be people who are unhappy, but this is to be expected in a democratic system. A direct democracy dismantles almost all of the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Person s Environment Is The Same Opportunity At The End... Every person struggle is different. Some have worked sweat and tears for their achievements while others have had things just handed to them and do not really know the struggle of hard work. Some people work as hard as they can and at the end of the day, they still cannot seem to succeed, as they would like to. They can work hard, live a good legal life, and yet still cannot make ends meet at the end of the day. The film Trading places, and the Not everybody in America has the same opportunity to be successful because one person s environment may be much rougher than another person environment. A person s environment is a key factor in their success. A person born into poverty is going to have a much harder time to get ahead than a person that is born into a wealthy family or environment. It is as if they are already in a negative situation before they even have a chance to begin life. A person born into poverty doesn t have that extra time to do homework at home because they might have to be home taking care of other siblings while guardians are at work. Sometimes they might not even be at home babysitting; they might have to get a job themselves because the money situation is so tight at home. While a person born to a wealthier family has that extra time to study, that person has the extra time to participate in extracurricular activities that might be a key to success. They do not have to worry about little things, which allow them to concentrate all of their time, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a college student, I take this position as my number one job in my life right now. • 8. The Australian Stock Exchange Goes The Australian stock exchange goes as far back as the mid 1800s. Australian originally had six separate exchanges throughout the country. The first stock exchange in Australia was founded in 1861 in Melbourne followed by the Sydney, Hobart, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth one in each capital of every Australian state. In 1937 the Australian Associated Stock Exchange (AASE) was to establish to secure rules for brokers and commission rates. Representatives from each exchange were present to represent their exchange at the AASE. Up until 1960 trades were made by a call system in which the names of each company was called out and broker put in their bids. Post 1960s the system changed and they hired employees called chalkies who wrote bids and offers on a board throughout the trading hours and recorded all transactions. On April 1st, 1987 the Australian Parliament formed the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX). This caused the merging of all six independent stock exchanges throughout the country into one national exchange instead of six separate state run institutions. Along with establishing a national exchange they also launched a new trading system call the Stock Exchange Automated Trading System (SEATS), in response to the increased volume of exchanges. This was a significant improvement from the chalk and board method, which had been used for almost a century. Before the establishment of the ASX there had been three forms of trading in the Australian stock exchange. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Tally Stick Essay Allison O Regan Prof. Fraustino Intro. To Poetry Peer Review Paper #1 The Tally Stick In the poem The Tally Stick , Jarold Ramsey uses a stick to symbolize the relationship between two people. Carved notches, arrowheads, and other symbols along the grain of the stick each have their own special meaning and represent certain events that occurred within these people s lives together. Though over the time, the stick becomes whittled down and weakened; those carvings are a testament to the strength and endurance of their relationship. Stanza two of the poem takes time to reveal what each individual notch or marking on the tally stick represents in their actual lives. The most intricate carving described represents the day of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author then says that the lengthening runes of our lives run through it all (19). Runes being something written in characters, the characters used to describe the personal events within the relationship surpasses the historical events that occurred. At the end of the poem, the final product of the tally stick is described. It had been carved all the way from end to end with meaningful events and occurrences that helped to shape an entire relationship. It is conveyed as being delicate as scrimshaw (21), scrimshaw being the word for patterns and designs engraved on fragile materials such as whale bone. The tally stick is now so lessened, that it would not be able to bear you up (21) or support you were you to lean on it. Though positive experiences were revealed in the beginning of the poem, such as the children and the wedding, the author also makes it a point to say that there were also regrets throughout the time he spent with his partner. The wood was polished...hand over hand with the regret, meaning their hands ran over the wood so often thinking of mistakes that were made that it was smoothed down. The line and in one another s blameless eyes go blind (27) shows that throughout time, and throughout all the events that happened, the two individuals do not hold anything against one another and one person is not more responsible for anything that happened than the other. The largest environmental disaster in U.S. history occurred on December 22nd, 2008 when a 84 acre pit containing toxic coal combustion residue at the Tennessee Valley Authority Fossil Plant in Kingston, Tennessee gave way. According to a report by AECOM, the firm hired to perform the root cause report, a combination of the high water content of the wet ash, the increasing height of ash, the construction of the sloping dikes over the wet ash, and the existence of an unusual bottom layer of ash and silt were among the long evolving conditions that caused the ash spill at Kingston Fossil Plant (TVA, 2010). • 11. Good Journalism and Citizenship The world is a hectic mess today. News is happening all around us, and the only source that acts as a filter between the chaos and ourselves is the media. The media, journalists especially, must hold upon themselves a great responsibility when they are acting as this filtering apparatus between the ordered and unordered. And this is not only a discussion between citizens and citizens or leaders and leaders but rather between citizens and leaders; the press simply acts as a medium. Justice Douglas wrote in New York Times Co. v. United States that [o]pen debate and discussion of public issues are vital to our national health. On public questions there should be uninhibited, robust, and wide open debate. Although debate and discussion are vital to the Republic, maybe society should rethink about how uninhibited, robust, and wide open those debates really are. Society today tends to think of debates as two opposing ideas battling each other out in order to ascertain which idea comes out in first, and, as Kovach and Rosenstiel point out, a debate focused only on the extremes of argument does not serve the public but instead leaves most citizens out (167). The problem with this is that there are not only one or two given positions on any given issue, but there are many positions. In the debates that go on today, those positions which are often left out are often those which are also most agreeable with each other. So instead of letting debates focus only on the extremes, [t]he public forum must include the broad areas of agreement, where most of the public resides and where the solutions to society s problems are found (Kovach and Rosenstiel 167). I was also tall compared to other people in my grade and thought that I was big and bad because a lot of little kids think that way and I was the same way. By thinking that I was all big and bad, I was trying to make myself seem dangerous, but I was not. However, there are people who are actually dangerous, and are able to show it instead of thinking about it and talking about it. The Sniper is still able to hit his target well, and this is impressive and shows that the sniper is dangerous because of his abilities. The Sniper is able to come up with a plan that is risky, and then he is also able to execute the plan as well. However, what is unique about this decision, is that each person s decision is directly affected by the other person s decision, and vice versa. The outcome of their reaction is dependent on what the other person decided to say. The popular example is of two prisoners who each must separately decide on whether or not to confess to a crime. We keep countless men from being good citizens by the conditions of life with which we surround them. Hard to implement in our design (can t justify this concisely) not really necessary? The filtration system configuration can be seen below in Figure 4. The pump draws the oil out of the sump and through a prefilter. It then positively directs the oil towards the solenoid valve which directs it through one of the two parallel filtration systems. Each filtration system is equipped with a 10 micron filter and two 4 micron filters set in a parallel configuration. The oil then passes through the 10 micron filter which will remove all particles of 10 microns in size or greater. The oil then enters a flow divider valve which properly diverts the oil to two separate 4 micron filters for further oil cleansing. Likewise, the 4 micron filters will remove all particles of 4 microns or greater. From here, the oil flows through a check ball valve to ensure no backflow into the filters. This is necessary due to the merging of the two parallel 4 micron filters. After leaving the first filter configuration the oil is then directed towards the cooling system. • 32. Taking a Look at the City of Atlanta Revenue Trends With the continued sluggish economy, Atlanta s total revenue projections continue to decline from the budget dating back to 2010 when the current mayor Kasim Reed took office. The City s property tax base is the primary component accounting for 40% of the City s general fund revenues. Property tax revenues have continued to experience declines associated with decreased residential tax bases, negative reassessments, successful tax appeals and continued weakness in the housing market. The City has demonstrated a measured response by continuing to budget property tax revenue collection conservatively. To meet the projections, the collection rate in the proposed budget was set to rise to 98%, up from the previous year s collection rate of 96% (Pendered 2013). Public utility, alcoholic beverages and other taxes are the second largest revenue source, at 23% resulting from franchise agreements of the use of the City s right of way in providing public utilities such as telecommunications, gas and electric and from taxes imposed on businesses operating in the City of Atlanta. This has ultimately effected the ways in which younger generations have come to understand this influential period in history while teachings of the facts, representation, and recollections of World War II in the public school systems vary, as misunderstandings and clashing of ideas still exist even almost a decade later. Riku Saito is a graduate student from the University of Idaho studying chemical engineering from Yokohama, Japan. Although Riku attended public school in Japan in ... She remembers learning about World War II with negative bias towards European countries, and Japan especially, as they were told that China was attacked by Japan. Some of the messages she remembers claimed that China s involvement in World War II was purely self defense, the Communist Party was the key to victory, and Japan was defeated by Chinese resistance. Jie also does not remember any of her classes or textbooks mentioning the Chinese famine that killed millions during this era. The ultimate message of World War II lessons was that China prevented Japan from taking over the world, in order to justify their own actions. Chinese also often scolds Japan for not teaching an accurate history of World War II, although much of the information, including those in Chinese textbooks, Jie has come to realize, was screened. Therefore many events were merely ignored based on what the Chinese government deemed as too controversial. She explains that China continues to desire global support for Japan not to be allowed to downplay their own atrocities in textbooks and public schools, although her own country may also be guilty of this. She also remembers learning about many facts during this time but was not always given an explanation of why these events occurred. Jie would even ask her parents and other families about this and about specific events and was told that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
