Telluric Screw Research Paper
In the 18th, century many elements were starting to be discovered so scientists faced the problem
of trying to arrange them. At this time the actual masses of the elements could not be measured so
instead they compared them with the mass of hydrogen, or the relative atomic mass. Firstly in 1862
Alexandre Beguyer de Chancoutois arranged the elements into a three dimensional form of
classification called the telluric screw. The telluric screw plotted the elements on the outside of a
cylinder where one complete turn corresponded to an atomic weight increase of 16. This resulted in
curtain elements appearing on the same vertical line as other element after one full turn of the
cylinder. These elements were elements that had similar properties to other elements. This was very
helpful in the development of the periodic table because it was the first known time that the
elements... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The periodic table is important for scientists today because it is an easy way to order elements
based on trends and because of this we can quickly identify the trends and properties of an
element just by looking at its position on the table. The table is useful for students and scientists
because it helps predict the types of chemical reactions that are likely for an element. Rather than
memorise facts and figures for each element, a quick glance at the table reveals a lot about the
reactivity of an element, whether it is likely to conduct electricity, whether it is hard or soft, and
many other characteristics. Not only does the table enable us to find out properties of known
elements, but it can predict the properties of elements not yet discovered. Mendeleev was the first
person to leave gaps in the periodic table for elements not yet discovered, so we can predict in
much detail the properties of the element that would fit in the gaps that have been left

Vital Role Of Sports In America
NFL (National Football League) is the biggest central narrative sport in America; most popular
and must profitable sport. No city is eager than Los Angeles; the country s second largest
metropolis city. LA spends public dollars on sports (esp. NFL) operation that boost billions in
yearly profit and counts 18 of its honors on the Forbes billionaire list. Many NFL players are
African Americans and that s a good thing for them to be more established via sports. Because in
early US history, African Americans were never seen as equal and that all began to change in one
specific area of society than any other i.e. Sports . So, sports play a vital role in changing the
moral of the society. It not only benefits the player in the area of health,

Essay On Quebec Immigration
Quebec is a hot spot for immigrants and thousands of them come to Quebec to build a life for
themselves and their families. The economy of Quebec is thriving as its economical activities are
relatively higher than Canada s other provinces. Its majorly privatized mode of economy offers
equal opportunities to skilled workers as well as investors. Culturally, the natives of the place are
quite welcoming of immigrants and are accepting of their cultural diversity. From professional view
point, Quebecoffers excellent opportunities in the sectors of IT, Telecom, Aviation and Aircraft, and
other such fields.
The province of Quebec has French as its official language. The people of Quebec are peaceful
and supportive towards immigrants regardless of cultural, regional and ethnic differences. There is
a well developed healthcare system, efficient education system, and acceptance for all ethnic
groups along with social security which guarantees the well being of citizens. The cost of living, of
basic necessities of housing, food, transportation and clothing, along with taxation, can be afforded
by one and all.

Going To Eat At Home Or Restaurants Essay
People all around the world are busy. Busy with school, work, and other extra activities. People
find that going out to a restaurant would be quicker and more convenient. The fact remains that
people have to eat, whether it be cooking at home or going out. Though cooking at home and
eating out are are completely different ways to eat, they could not be any more different in quality,
portion, and cost. When families eat at home, they know the ingredients that have been added to
their meals and the quality of the food. Moreover, they know the cleanliness of where the food has
been prepared. At home, they know if the person preparing has washed his/her hands. When
going out to eat, the family has no idea what happens in the kitchen. Their food could have been
spit on, dropped, or even possibly a hair from a cook could fall into their dish. The quality of
food is important to the consumer, due to if the food does not taste well, more than likely they
will not eat it. Also, the restaurant serves sometimes less quality than what you buy and less
quantity. When going out to eat at a restaurant, people prefer to recieve their money s worth in
the food they order. That typically comes down to portion sizes. as unhealthy as it is, most people
do not know the proper portion and tend to eat the entire meal that is presented to them. While, at
home, when families cook the meal themselves, the portions are smaller due to the recommended
serving size of the meal. Most restaurants are guilty of serving anywhere from double to triple a
normal food portion. Portion control is an important part in food. That makes it important to
understand what a recommended serving size is for the food prepared is, and only ordering that
amount. When families prepare their meals at home, they are able to control what goes on the
plate, and what not to eat. Eating out at restaurants are typically portioned excessively, and some
dishes can contain an entire day s worth of calories.
It s hard to beat the convenience of going to a restaurant and having cooks prepare and serve the
food is relaxing and eliminates the hassle of having to cook dinner. On the other hand, there are
many great benefits of that cooking at home, such as price. The

The Federalist And The Anti Federalist
In America today there are many political parties which include the Democrats and the
Republicans. The beginning of political parties started in 1787 with the federalist, then later on
the anti federalist in 1796. Alexander Hamilton was the leader of the federalist party. Thomas
Jefferson was the leader of the anti federalist; who called themselves the Democratic Republicans.
Our first president, George Washington warned us about having parties and the danger of them.
However, not until Congress debated the ratification and implementation of Jay s Treaty with
Great Britain did two political parties clearly emerge ; the Federalist and the Anti Federalist.
Today the most influential parties are the Democrats and the Republicans. These parties win all of
the presidential elections as of today. Political parties formed because the United States was
beginning to grow and expand. Many people had different opinions and so political parties were
formed. People were concerned about the how the new government was going to be organized. In
1787, the Federalist party, which was lead by Alexander Hamilton, was formed. Alexander
Hamilton wrote the papers The Federalist and they were published in 1787 and 1788. The papers
were about ratifying the constitution of the United States. This party was formed by people who
had the same or similar beliefs as Alexander Hamilton. The federalists were individuals who
supported a strong national government, diplomatic ties with Great Britain,

The 4 H s In The Odyssey
Myths have a very important function in the story that may not be the most obvious idea. Myths
explains a code of behavior with rewards and punishments. Odyssey explains the 4 H s through the
actions and adventure of Odysseus. The 4 H s are the honor, hospitality, hubris, and heroism that
comes from greek mythology. Honor means reputation of excellence and back then in time of
Odysseus it didn t necessarily mean one was to be a good person. Hospitality is retreating a
stranger with respect and protection, and providing what they need. Hubris, the opposite of
humility, refers to extreme, ignorant pride or arrogance which is can be punished by the gods.
Heroism using one s brains as much as they use their muscle. First, throughout the story we can see
Odysseus achieve honor. However Odysseus honor is different from ours. He killed men and
kidnapped women for honor. He found his honor in Ismarus when (he), I stormed that place and
killed the men who fought. Plunder we took, and we enslaved the women, to... Show more content

Deep into Odysseus encounter of the Polyphemus also shows heroism because of what he did to
save his men and escape the cave. He used his cunningness to save his fellow mate representing
heroism, Blinded and sick with pain from his head wound, the monster stroked each ram, then
let it pass, but my men riding on the pectoral fleece the giant s blind hands blundering never
found (pg 993). Secondly you can see Odysseus heroism through his interaction with the
goddess, Athena. After he received an image of a god using it to prove that he is actually
Odysseus, Lithe and young she made him, ruddy with sun, his jawline clean, the beard no
longer gray upon his chin. Your cloak is new: even your skin! You are one of the gods who rule the
sweep of heaven! (line 1019 1027). This represents Odysseus heroism, he uses his brain to use his
new body as a disguise from his family only to prove himself right as

Essay On Bossa Nova
As Christopher Small, it is true that there is no culture ever disappears but it is transformed over
and over again through the new one (Small, On cultures and their fusion 1998). Bossa nova, means
„new trend‟, is a kind of Brazilian music that is transformed by two fusion; samba and strong
American jazzinfluenced (Wikipedia). It was known in 1957 and 1963 especially among young
students and musicians who would like to bring a complicated combination of melody to be
harmony and be more relaxing rather than using powerful voice and strong meaning. According to
Tom Jobim, one of the fathers of bossa nova, said music is the silence between the notes (Just

It tends to be the rising of the cool wave from Brazil in the style of cool jazz. It shows how
influence for a musical style developed in a peripheral country as Brazil was introduced in a large
and central market place as the American (New World Encyclopedia).
Bossa nova becomes well known in worldwide; not only in Brazil and North
America. It is because of convenient communication and easier crossing borders among different
national people by new technologies (Administrator_v 2006). The transnationalism makes the world
be „hybridization‟ and deterritorialization because places are reproducing and transformation
in the appropriate way (Appadurai 1990). In the 21 st century, people in the global world tend to
appreciate and enjoy the music purely without consciousness of the history and the transnational

Moreover, most of the current music is produced for business term without recognition of the
original history of it. The fascinating history of the music is faded away (Reed

The Son s Veto Analysis
Setting
One of the ways Hardy evokes a sense of contrast between the two settings with the use of triads.
Evidence for these can be seen when he describes the initial setting, ...with trees and shrubs and
glebe . He then goes one to describe the second setting, the more industrial of the two as a ...vista
of sooty trees, hazy air, and drab house facades . This helps the reader to visualize and compare
the two settings, for example, when he describes the initial setting as having trees whilst the second
setting, he describes as having sooty trees , making it easy for the reader to work out the
differences and contrasts between the two settings.
Hardy also uses personification to enhance the image in the readers mind. He describes the ... Show

Randolph, the son of Sophy and the Reverend, is a boy that has been brought up by expensive
education, therefore adapting an upper class mindset, which is what his parents were aiming to
do. Evidence of this is abundant, when Hardy writes, her only child, on whose education no

writes about Randolph s, aristocratic school knowledge . As a result of the fact the Randolph s
mom belongs to the lower class, whilst all his friends at parents who were, ...proud fathers and

conclude from the evidence that Randolph is an upper class boy whose parents had sacrificed
wealth and time to bring up, only for the mother to be neglected by him due to her lower class
statues.
Later in the story, Sophy asks Randolph if she can marry the man she has always loved, Sam.
Quite unsurprisingly, Randolph rejects the idea, as having 2 parents in low classes in the
hierarchy would be a liability to his profile in the upper class. However, Randolph injects venom
into his rejection, saying, I am ashamed of you! It will ruin me! A miserable boor! A churl! A
clown! It will degrade me in the eyes of all the gentlemen of England! (You being Sophy). It can
now be fully interpreted, that Randolph is a member of the

Astrolabe a complex type of inclinometer in the shape of a sphere or large circle used to chart the
positions of stars, planets, moon and Sun, which could then be used to estimate location (use

Islamic world. Similar, the marine astrolabe, a large disc shaped instrument used for navigation

Essay on New technologies dismiss social relationships
In this fast changing world, new technologies have become essential in societies and have an
impact on everyone s life. This process of technologization has grown exponentially since the
nineties and the beginning of the Internet, which has significantly decreased boundaries of
communication. Some expert agreed that new technologies would make communication and
exchange easier, and thus give an incentive to communicate with other people. However, those
change have caused communication to change and people have totally change their way to
communicate. Ever since people have become increasingly dependent on those technologies
because they only see their advantages and convenience for everyday life. New technologies

This process has changed a lot over centuries; people do not communicate the same ways. The
Internet access is a good indicator of this change because it allows people to communicate in
many different ways such as social networks, email, or video calls (Skype). According to the
INSEE, the number of French households with an access to the Internet grew from 12 % to 64 %
in ten years.
The first reason why new technologies dismiss social relationships is because more technologies
mean less face to face and therefore less communication. Most of digital technologies such as the
Internet, cellphones, television, and video games feature screens, which people use to
communicate. According to Krystel Tong s presentation, 57 per cent of people are more likely to
communicate online rather than by face to face. However, tone and body language are key points
of communication, therefore this lack of face to face communication can lead to
misunderstandings. According the BBC news, for some people this lack of interaction also
creates a feeling of isolation. A survey done by researchers from University of Michigan showed
that the more people use Facebook the more they feel lonely and deserted. For some other people,
new technologies can contribute to people acting violently. As Leo Kelion reported, in August
2013, Hannah Smith, a British teenager aged 14 killed herself after being persecuted for months on
the social network, ask.com.

Narrative About Being Reaped
In a bright sunrise that adumbrated the potential that lay ahead, a field of corn seized my
attention on one summer run. Staring into the cornfield, I pondered which ones would be
perfect enough to be reaped. I realized, however, that many of them would be abandoned,
because they succumbed to bugs, contracted diseases, or were just inferior. My life was eerily
representative of the plight of the corn. It all commenced with a perverse inquiry: Hilton Head
Island, a resort city on the Atlantic Ocean, is in what state? I was mortified. I had never
answered a question wrong in the school level geography bee before. Earning top twelve in the
states in fifth and sixth grade made me poised to possibly make Nationals that year, resulting in
high expectations from nearly everyone I knew. Hastily, I wrote down my best educated guess,
hoping that the boy I was facing (who incidentally bullied me incessantly throughout middle
school) would err as well. However, the corn in me that was about to be reaped was thrown on the
ground and forgotten.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

although my scores were better than half the team, and isolating me from all the friends I once

effeminate clothing, and a loser with no life. Mired in depression in subsequent years, I cried

The Allegheny Woodrat ( Neotoma Magister )
Introduction
The Allegheny woodrat (Neotoma magister) is a small mammal that is endemic to the United
States. They live in the eastern part of the United States in deciduous forests. Their species can be
found from the Appalachian Mountains through the interior Highland regions, including western
Connecticut to northern Alabama (Castleberry et al 2006). Woodrats are restricted to areas that
have rocky structures such as caves, fissures, and boulder piles and live within the spaces
between rocks (Castleberry et al. 2006). Rocky habitats are good living spaces for them because
the crevices provide protection from predators and also create a den environment for young to
develop. Since rocky areas are usually distributed in patches throughout an environment, woodrats
are considered to be metapopulations because their populations are separated (Castleberry et al.
2002). Other animals that can be found using the same rocky habitats for denning, roosting, or
nesting include the Rafinesque s big eared bat (Corynorhinus rafinesquii), Townsend s big eared bat
(C. townsendii), common raven (Corvus corax), long tailed weasel (Mustela frenata), eastern small
footed myotis (Myotis leibii), eastern spotted skunk (Spilogale putorius), and American black bear
(Ursus americanus) (Castleberry et al. 2006). The different types of species that live in the
community creates competition and leaves woodrat populations vulnerable. Competition and
predators are examples of factors that

In Once Upon A Time the wall is an important symbol. Not only do the main characters move into
a house with a wall built up around it, but it s also in a highly protected neighborhood. The wall
represents the separation between the races, but specifically whites and other groups. Arguably
the family thinks the wall is a great idea and agree that it should be even higher, You are right,
said the wife, then the wall should be higher. And the wise old witch, the husband s mother, paid
for the extra bricks as her Christmas present to her son and his wife. The increase in the wall
height represents the increase in the government s attempt to create more separation. Gordimer s
point is proven after the family adds wire coils to the fence to protect them from Apartheid. What

Exploration Of Good And Evil In Rashomon
On one level Rashomon, by director Akira Kurosawa, is a classic whodunnit, a tale of rape,
murder, deceit and redemption. How was the samurai warrior killed and his wife violated in lonely
woodlands at a time of dissonance in medieval Japan? Suspects emerge and an inquisition is held.
But why do all players profess their guilt, rather than protest their innocence? Kurosawa has taken
two stories (the 1950 filmis loosely based on the works of writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa) and
created a multifaceted masterpiece peppered with shifts and contrasts. He delves into aggression
and accountability to explore the collective Japanese consciousness after World War Two. He

Kurosawa unsettles at the outset with rain and gloom, then employs a series of rapid cuts to draw
his viewer into the heart of the moral dilemma. His is a radical experimentation with narrative
marked by dislocation and incompleteness (Goodwin, page 114). Kurosawa himself wrote: These
strange impulses of the human heart would be exposed through the use of an elaborately fashioned
play of light and dark (Akira Kurosawa, Something Like an Autobiography, p 182). It would be a
keynote for the entire film (Akira Kurosawa, Interviews, edited by Bert Cardullo, p. 176). That
keynote is struck as the woodcutter recalls the crime. Flashbacks were an unconventional way of
constructing a storyline, and Kurosawa s create a complex intertextual relationship. The woodcutter
strides into thicket, through full light, dappled light and shade, in an evolving montage of surety,
uncertainty and disquiet. The scene plays with long shots, pans, close ups and takes in high angles
and laterals. The segment is still analysed today for its technical and visual brilliance (Martinez, p
31). The shooting script for Rashomon was littered with directions to create a sense of motion, to
pan, to dolly in and out, notes cinema expert Donald Richie (The Films of Akira Kurosawa,
Donald Richie, pages 77, 78). It is here that Kurosawa and cameraman Kazuo Miyagawa break one
of cinematography s taboos shooting directly into the sun. With craft

Theme Of Foreshadowing In A Doll House
A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen, is a play that follows Nora Helmer and her husband Torvald
Helmer through the holiday season and the fall of their marriage. Within the two acts there are
many figurative language devices used to help further the story along, however, there are a few
in specific that stand out. The play s foreshadowing, symbolism, and irony all contribute the
most to the play s overall development of Nora s self affirmation. Foreshadowing in A Doll
House is present from the beginning of the story. Much of which is not noticeable until later
events. In the beginning of Act 1 Nora hides her macaroons from Torvald, HELMER: Hasn t
Miss Sweet Tooth been breaking rules in town today? ... taken a bite at a macaroon or two?
NORA: No, Torvald. (Ibsen, 1657). Although it is minor in nature, it reveals Nora s character of
being rebellious despite Torvald s wishes. The effect this characterization has on the story is that
she is not the obeying wife that many were in the Victorian Era. Through this foreshadowing the
reader can begin to identify the conflicts of Nora and Torvald s relationship that get developed on
as the play progresses. Another example of foreshadowing is in Act 2 when Nora is getting
ready to leave out to town, when she engages in a conversation with Anne Marie about the
children asking, Do they ask for me much? . To which Anne Marie responds, They re so used to
having Mama around, you know. . This is important because Nora replies with, Yes, but Anne
Marie, I can t be together with them as much as I was. (Ibsen, 1675). This hints towards Nora
abandoning her role as a mother, which in the end occurs when she leaves Torvald to find herself
and become independent. The foreshadowing throughout the play contributed to the dramatic
ending. Symbolism in A Doll House is another key element in the development of the play. The
setting of the play was during Christmas Eve throughout December 26th. Typically, this is the
ending of the year and represents family being together. However, as the play progresses, the
optimistic outlook on Christmas that is expected changes. In the opening description of the setting
in Act 1 Nora tells Helene, Hide the tree well... The children mustn t get a

My Italian Culture
I am an Italian American, two very distinct cultures that have shaped me throughout my entire
life. My father is a full blooded Italian and my mother is American. They met when my mother
moved to Italy for business and about 13 years later I was born and 2 years after me, my brother.
We all moved to California in 2001, when I was almost 4 years old, because my mother is from
California.
Since my mother had lived in Italy for 16 years and had mostly assimilated, I can say that my life
at home to this day has been pretty much Italian. My mom cooks Italian meals every night and
my parents talk in Italian and my father exclusively watches Italian TV and for the most part
listens to only Italian music. My life outside of my home has been very much American. I

In this type of treatment, an intense and very narrow beam of laser simply burns the upper layer
of affected pigment. Depending on the number of spots and affected areas that need treatment, the
procedure can take 60 90 minutes. Follow up treatments may be needed depending on the severity
of the problem. The doctor informs about these details beforehand after examining the affected
skin areas. It can take 10 15 days before the spots disappear completely. During the treatment, the
dark spot turns darker to the extent of turning black. It forms a crust of dead cells and then it
simply peels off the skin. It is a noninvasive and nonsurgical procedure that is suitable for all types

Comparison Of The Slaughter And Popular Mechanics
The stories Popular Mechanics, by Raymond Carver and Lamb to the Slaughter, by Raold Dahl

husband was kicked out of the house. In the stories one person dies in it. In the Popular
Mechanics, the baby was killed while they were fighting over it and in the Lamb of the Slaughter,

Native Americans in Late 19th Century
Native Americans in the late 19th century The reservations system is quite a complex matter and
understanding the consistency and membership of the reservations can be hard, depending on the
particular issue being handled. It is worth noting however that all the Indians born in the USA
are citizens and are subject to federal and tribal laws though not generally to the state laws. The
federal law limits their self governance hence they do not retain the all powers. They are endowed
with the power to control the land use and ownership, execute their legal system (though under the
supervision of the federal government particularly on criminal issues) as well as raise the local
taxes. According to American Indians Cultural Network (2000), the federal reservations are about
300 in number and most are in the West with 20 state reservations mainly in the East. The
reservations have a history that dates back to the 1840s and were inhabited by the Plains Indians.
They were basically used to confine the Plains Indians hence have an easier time controlling the
inhabitants. Once confined within this stretch of worthless infertile land, they were no longer a
threat to the white settlers and by 1900s the entire population of Plains Indians was almost
decimated. The federal reservations policy came up from the system that was referred to as the
Permanent Indian Frontier policy that was implemented in 1830 the followed by the Indian
Removal Act within the same year. Bearing the

Written Assignment Unit 4: Four Types of Consumer Offerings
I am going to explain the four types of consumer offerings and how they differ from one another.
First, what is a consumer offering? A consumer offering can be a product (tangible good), an
intangible service, or a combination of both, that is offered to the public (customers and potential
customers) at a price. There are four general categories of consumer offerings, and they are,
convenience offerings, shopping offerings, specialty offerings, and unsought offerings. These
categories of offerings are not distinguished by the offering itself, but by the way that the consumer
wants to purchase the offering. Therefore, an offering might fall into a different category for one ...

Therefore, consumers are willing to put more thought, effort, time and planning into purchasing
these offerings. Shopping offerings have a more specific target market, and are not generally
found everywhere like a convenience offering. Brand names and familiarity, along with reviews
and recommendations, often play a role in shopping offerings category. A good example for me
was when I went to get my first pair of running shoes. I spoke to several people I knew that were
avid runners and they all told me to go to a store that specializes in running shoes and have them
properly fit you for shoes. I researched online local stores that specialized in running shoes and
picked the one with the best reviews and ratings. I went there for a good pair of running shoes
(product) and more importantly their expertise in properly fitting me for the running shoes
(service). Other examples of shopping offerings I have purchased are my mobile phone, computer,

The Importance Of Religious Holiday Observances In Schools
A religious holiday observance can be defined as: a worship service or ceremony of any kind,
religious holiday exhibits/displays, the enactment of a religious drama, wearing religious items, and
even the presentation of religious music and singing religious holiday hymns. Despite these
guidelines and intentions of administration, sectarian holiday observances during Christmasand
Easter still tend to take place in schools across the country. There can be multiple causes for this
though. First of all, many teachers may not know or understand the court decisions and how to
apply them within their classrooms. Clearly by these laws, you should not display religious
symbols like the cross, however, few people are aware of the fact that courts are also concerned
with the timing, context, and grade levels that are involved in these classroom programs. For
example, if there is a grade wide holiday music production that has a Christmas hymn, they might
get questions like What song will be sung? Where will it take place? What is the purpose of this
within the curriculum? And what effect will singing them have on the students as well as the
audience? As an educator I have not really thought about Christmas music as a whole in the
classroom. I m sure that a music teacher is more aware of it, but as a general teacher I wouldn t
have even thought about playing Christmas music in the classroom as being a controversial thing
until now. That leads me into my next point that teachers may

Medical Malpractice Lawsuits Essay
Introduction:Medical malpractice lawsuits are an extremely serious topic and have affected
numerous patients, doctors, and hospitals across the country. Medical malpractice is defined as
improper, unskilled or negligent treatment of a patient by a physician, dentist, nurse, pharmacist, or
other health care professional (Medical malpractice, n.d.). If a doctor acts negligent and causes
harm to a patient, malpractice lawsuits arise. Negligence is the concept of the liability concerning
claims of medical malpractice, making this type of litigation part of tort law. Tort law provides
that one person may litigate negligence to recover damages for personal injury. Negligence laws
are designed to deter careless behavior and also to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basic Requirements for a Claim: In order to claim that a doctor or hospital was negligent in a
medical malpractice case, there must be specific requirements present. First off a doctor patient
relationship must have existed (Boeschen, 2014). An individual making the claim must show
that there was a physician patient relationship with the doctor being sued. This means the doctor
was hired and agreed to be hired for the medical care provided. If a doctor began seeing you and
treating you, it is easy to prove a physician patient relationship existed. Second the plaintiff must
show the doctor was negligent. Regardless of if the patient is unhappy with their treatment or
results, does not determine the doctor is liable for medical malpractice. The doctor must have
been negligent not reasonably skillful and careful in a diagnosis or treatment (Boeschen, 2014).
To sue for malpractice, you must be able to show that the doctor caused you harm in a way that a
competent doctor, under the same circumstances would not have (Boeschen, 2014). In many
cases, the doctor s care is not required to be the best possible, but simply reasonably skillful and
careful (Boeschen, 2014). Whether or not the doctor was reasonably skillful and careful is often up
to the medical malpractice claim. Another basic requirement of a medical malpractice claim is
whether or not the doctor s negligence caused the injury. Many malpractice cases involve patients
that were already

The Arab Israeli Conflict Essay
According to an apocryphal story, Pope John Paul once said that he believes there are two possible
solutions to the Arab Israeli conflict, the realistic and the miraculous. The realistic being divine
intervention, and the miraculous being a voluntary agreement by both parties. On September 13th,
1993, it looked like the miraculous had happened when the Oslo Accordswere signed by Israeli
Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Chairman Yasser Arafat
on the White House South Lawn. However, the objectives of the historic accords were never fully
implemented and the Palestinians remain a stateless nation. Further steps toward Israeli Arab
peace, including the Cairo Agreement, Oslo II and the Camp David Summit, have fallen short of
the goals of both parties.
When he became president in 1993, Bill Clinton and his advisors did not initially make Israeli
Palestinian peace a priority. The administration looked first to other Middle Eastern affairs,
believing that an Israeli Syrian agreement was more likely, and that the policy of dual containment
in Iran and Iraq was more pressing. They thought that once they made a breakthrough between Israel
and Syria the Lebanese would be close behind, and that this would put pressure on the Iran and
Iraq, the biggest opponents of any sort of Israeli Arab peace deal (US Office of the Historian). The
Americans were made aware of the secret negotiations that had begun in Oslo in December 1992

Determining The Coffee Temperature Experiment
Scenario/Problem:
Jane is a busy and forgetful person and whenever she makes a cup (250mL) of coffee she puts it
down and by the time she remembers about the coffee, the beverage is no longer at a temperature
that is considered appealing (hot).
The problem that is being investigated is how to prolong the starting temperature of the beverage
(coffee) for the longest period of time possible?
The coffee is contained within a glass beaker and is surrounded by a jacket of water that has a
different temperature that is contained in another vessel to create an effect on the coffee s
temperature.

The hypothesis is that the temperature of the coffee or fluid in the smaller beaker surrounded by

measuring (red) part of the thermometer is the middle of the small beaker and is not touching any
surfaces (it should be in mid air). Ensure that you are able to read the thermometer accurately. If you
are unable to read it then move the thermometer up slightly and try again. The maximum height that
the thermometer is able to go is slightly lower (1 2cm) than the 250mL marking on the beaker.

the water of the outer container.

Not Our Stars, But The Most Well Known Epic Poems Of The...
Not in Our Stars, But in Ourselves
Whose fault? / Whose but his own? is a question that has been raised many times in human history
(Milton 3.96). Many authors and poets have tackled the question of why humanity is constantly
tested and tempted to sin, and, further, whether humanity has the free will to decide its own fate.
After the Reformation of the Catholic church that created Protestantism, the idea of
predestination was very popular. Protestant ideology claimed that only a few people were
destined to be saved or damned by God, and that only some people will be saved. This created a
general anxiety about faith and free will in Renaissance England, leading many to question who
was at fault when human beings sin. Two of the most well known epic poems of the Renaissance
era are The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser and Paradise Lost by John Milton. Both poems
feature characters that face trials and tribulations, and how the respective poems deal with the
trails reveals different ideas about fate, free will, and the idea of being tested. Both poems use
temptation relation to female bodies and sexual desire, diverse reactions to falling and failure, and
prophecy that contribute to two different ideas about free will and the role of God in the lives of
his creations.
Female seduction and sexual temptation are featured both in The Faerie Queene and Paradise
Lost, but are represented in different ways. In Paradise Lost, Eve leads to the eventual downfall of
Adam because she

The Relationship Between Revolution, State Reform, And...
The relationships between revolution, state reform, and industrialization came in a succession
form. The ideas that were brought to light during the revolutions later defined how the states
were reformed. The reformed states would later take on industrialization. During the American
and French Revolutions some ideas were brought up that later defined the state formations. The
idea of popular sovereignty allowed for states to become more democratic. This idea to allow the
people to have some authority over the sovereign was brought about by John Locke. People
wanted freedom, individual freedom to be exact. In terms of political and legal equality, the idea
was that all individuals would be equal under the law. State reformation began through acquiring
independence. Independence was acquired by means of war and conflict. There was later
American, Haitian, Brazilian, and Mexican independence. For the Haitian Revolution, a slave
revolt broke out and was led by a man named Toussaint L Ouverture. Mexico became independent
due to Napoleon invading Spain and weakening the royal control of the colonies and the
independence movement led by SimГіn Bolivar. Pedro the King s son agreed to an independent
Brazil. Industrialization began through new inventions and use of material. Coal replaced the use
of wood. Some of the new inventions included the fluttering shuttle, spinning mule, water driven

Lessons from a Third World Perspective on Environmentalism
Possibly more than any of the other articles we have read so far,
Ramachandra Guha s article Radical Environmentalism and Wilderness
Preservation: A Third World Critique made me think. In analyzing the
Western deep ecology movement, he criticized its focus on preservation of
wild areas. By doing this, he was directly criticizing what I have long
thought of as my main goal as an environmentalist. One of the first
things that turned me on to environmental issues when I was younger was my
horror at the soaring rate of rainforest destruction so dramatically
portrayed to us in 9th grade biology class. Since then, by following a

But reading the article, I was struck by
what we can learn from each other and from where we overlap.
Guha s article critiqued the four main tenants of deep ecology
(which are, as he sees them,: a shift from anthropocentric to biocentric
ethics, a focus on preservation of wilderness, an invocation of Eastern
spiritual traditions, and a perception of being the vanguard of current
environmentalism) in order to show that, as is, deep ecology would only
meet its goals at the expense of the Third World. He gave the example of
Project Tiger in India, in which Western preservationists organizations
encouraged the designation of a network of parks to preserve the tiger s
habitat but only by moving whole villages of people and prohibiting them
from using the land (272). Of course, this type of conflict between
protecting the habitat of an endangered species and letting the land be
used by locals does not only occur in Third World contexts it is a common
debate, including of course the famous Spotted Owl example within our own
country.
Although it seems clear that a conflict between anthropocentric and
biocentric world views is at work here, Guha claims that the dichotomy is
useless (271). I have also seen it as somewhat problematic, even from my

The colonies in the New World finally began to take shape. However, this didn t happen overnight.
There were complications with the Old World, Native Americans, and within their own colonies.
Nevertheless, the thirteen colonies erupted along the Atlantic seaboard. The New England colonies
were founded by English Puritans, and a small group of Puritans, called Separatist, sailed to
Plymouth on the May Flower in 1620. Next, John Winthrop founded the MassachusettsBay in 1630.
Nonetheless, all of this didn t come easy to them. In the winter of 1620 1621, only forty four

through the journey to their afterlife. The ancient beliefs of an afterlife were provided from the
ancient Egyptianswho viewed their lives as a never ending, cyclic pattern. Their views of the
afterlife guided not only their lives in the underworld but also their mortal lives on earth. The
Egyptians had gods that depicted the Sun or life and Night or death. The Sun god Re and the god
Osirisportrayed the relationship between death and resurrection. Osiris plays a huge role in
Egyptian funerary text because he is described as the ruler of the realm of the dead . Osiris rose
to power as the king of the dead after being murdered by his brother Seth. Since he was the ruler
of death, he was a model for how each person s life was treated after his or her deaths. When the

Summary Of Bless The Lord, O My Soul Essay
present. As our Father, we know that you are more ready to hear than we are willing to pray.
Grant us the grace to learn to trust you more in the midst of this terrible ordeal. You who know
our needs before we asked for it, give us from now, on your grace, so that we moved back in
front of the mystery of death, to see the light of eternity. Once again, teach us that death is a
bridge towards the happy eternity. Help us to live as those who are ready to die, and allow us, at
the time of breathing our last, to have the assurance that we go directly to you, so that nothing in
life or in death will separate us from your great love in Jesus, our Lord. Amen.
Scripture Readings
The congregation is requested to stand up.
The pastor reads one of the following passages:
Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my
soul, and forget not all His benefits; Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle s.
The Lord executes righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. He made known His ways
to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel. The Lord is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and
abounding in mercy. He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. He has

Martin Luther King In Jail Research Paper
While Martin Luther King may have gone to jail a few times, Martin fought for the rights for
African Americans. He was in marches and riots, received many awards and gave the famous

Augustus Caesar and the Roman Empire Essay
In the antique land of Rome, a shattered visage of a man lies. This statue, in frigid stone,
represents a man who built one of the most formidable empires in human history, all while setting
the course for its eventual downfall. As the morning sun rises over the horizon in a blaze of glory,
the statue illuminates and reveals the somewhat melancholic ivy as it slowly envelops the
forgotten emperor. Beside the statue, hanging on a ruined stone wall, is a painting of the city that
once stood tall and proud. The painting depicts a beautiful scene that shows a joyous crowd
watching in awe as colossal wooden galleons triumphantly enter the city on a river. You stare into
the painting and as you look deeper you find yourself transported back in... Show more content on

There are no marble arches and no lighthouses. The river has dried up with the memory of the
empire and the bones of a dead leader have long since turned to dust. Colossal galleons and
crowds to greet victorious soldiers are no longer even a memory in the minds of those alive
today, simply words on paper in books gathering dust in the darkest corner of a room. There is
no one to remember the beauty of the vast city; no one to describe the sight of the lighthouses
and no one to recall the crisp aroma of the once majestic river. All that remains are the few
paintings and statues that did not dissolve with time. The dust of the bones of men, women and
children long since dead has faded from existence. There is no one left to remember the man
selling wares in the street or the woman grieving over the soldier she loved. Nobody holds the
memory of the child playing in the park or the servant bringing a pitcher of water to his master.
The meaning behind the statue has faded from everyone s mind. The man, whose wrinkled lip and
sneer of cold command secured his victory in every battle he fought, has dissolved into nothing
more than a story in a book. As the impending dawn draws near, a daunting sight can be seen in the
distance. The remains of what was once the centre of this ruined empire glows in the morning light.
Temples have crumbled to dust, leaving only the foundations on

leakage, storage and stability problems. Proniosomes are the versatile preparations which are
stable. These are the dried forms of niosomes. Zidovudine proniosomal gel was prepared of
different formulation. The permeation studies were carried using rat abdominal skin. Higher
percentage release was achieved using the Span 20 i.e., 97.55%В±1.1. Effect of lecithin and effect
of non ionic surfactants was carried out. The higher percent entrapment efficiency was achieved to
F1 formulation of about 74.70%. There was no effect of cholesterol concentration. As the lecithin
concentration was increased the percent drug release also increase but only at a certain extend. At
the certain limit surfactant concentration also increases the drug release. By using the proniosomes

Per Capita Carbon-Dioxide Emission In The US
In his book, The United States of Excess, Robet L.Paarlberg says, Per capita carbon dioxide
emissions in the United States are roughly twice the average for the rest of the wealthy world
(defined here as the 34 member countries of the Organization for Economic Co operation and
Development, or OECD) (7). Contrasting the situation with the wealthy world is enough to
realize that the USA has a serious problem of carbon dioxide emission. If we compare the
emission with a poor developing nation like Nepal, the problem is much clearer or, precisely,
scary. CO2 emission in metric tons per capita for the United States in 2005 was close to 20
(Brooks 27). Moreover, in 2013, the measurement for the USA was still 16.4 while that for Nepal
was 0.2 ( CO2 Emissions (Metric Tons per Capita) ). The figures show that the USA emitted 82
times the carbon emitted by Nepal on a per capita basis. With all the focus towards competing
industrially with other wealthy countries, consequently, the USA has not had enough attention
towards the resulting problem from carbon emission. Instead, this competition has added up to the
emission of more amount of carbon. The difference in technological advancements, education
system, and the people s lifestyles in the two countries is the main reason for the higher per capita
carbon emission in the USA. Undoubtedly, the USA is one of the leading countries based on
technological and industrial advancements in the world. Resource abundance and low population in

Operant Behavior Analysis
This article defined the main accounts of antecedent processes in operant behavior, it presented a
theoretical review of applied research on antecedent events in behavior disorders, and lastly it

their theories. These theorists include Skinner, Kantor, and Michael. Skinner is known for his
reinforcement theory, however, he had writings of the environmental settings under which behavior

how Skinner believed stimulus control over behavior is developed. Discrimination describes a

Benefits Of Physical Recreation
In the United States of America, early development of documented recreation began in the late late
nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Vast amounts of physical recreation include cycling,
hiking, participating in a dance class, basketball, etc. Controversially, recreation has no documented
definition due to the varying meaning among individuals. Recreation, stemming from the Latin
form recreation, translates to restoration to health. Recreation can be generally considered activity
that people engage in during their free time in a form of enjoyment. Physical recreation is the same
concept, differing only in the form a physical activity. The restoration from physical recreation can
range from feelings of time distortion, an escape, personal development, personal renewal, a
psychological experience in naturel, etc. This restoration often restores or recreates an individual
and is generally mentally and physically up building (Torkildsen, 2009). Physical recreation
provides multiple physical and mental benefits.
Physical recreation has multiple benefits, including an increase in life expectancy. About one in
every three U.S. adults or 30.4 percent, do not engage in leisure time physical activity. (AHA) This
is an estimated 7 in 10 American adults. (Schoenborn, 2002, April 7). (California) A sedentary

Birth Tourism and China
Why would a city not want to promote tourism? Tourism helps attract foreign investments and
therefore contribute tremendously to the economy. In fact, tourism is one of the main sources of
income for Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). According to a recent study by
market research firm Euromonitor, Hong Konghas been named the world s most desirable travel
destination for international visitors with a number of 23.8 million visitors. However, if that figure
is broken down by geographic zones, Chinese tourists account for 63.5%. Mainland visitors have
always been playing a huge role in tourism in Hong Kong and they are the ones Hong Kong citizens
feel resentful towards mainly because of birth tourism. Local residents have felt that the medical
system is already operating at its capacity. Demonstrations on streets are not uncommon with
citizens wanting the government to take action against such tourism, I believe that Hong Kong
government should still welcome Chinese tourists since Mainland visitors have been contributing
significantly to Hong Kong s inbound tourism, however the government should put a ban on birth
tourism.
Apart from being famous for its shopping and food paradise, Hong Kong is also widely known
as a former British colony. It was not until July 1, 1997 that Hong Kong was returned to and has
remained as a special administration region of the People s Republic of China. Even so, Hong Kong

Reading Access And The Teacher Salary Gap
The substratum of the society is predicated on inculcation since it brings economic and convivial
prosperity. Being educated enhances an individual to live a reverent life in the society. This is
because education offers a setting in which culture and values of a society are developed. In this
generation, inculcation in modern society provides a forum where the society examines its issues
and identifies solutions. The advancement of a society both economically and convivially is by
gaining edification which consequently enables them to run a modern society.getting access to
educationhas always been difficult and beneficial to people who are willing to learn. USA is a
powerful country and her advantages on education are limitless for teacher and students but
Cameroon has less advantages and less teachers.USA and Cameroon with education system are

salary gap between both countries. Cameroon is a good country and has a good education
system. however, she has a lot to learn from the USA in terms of teaching skills, book access
and teacher salary gap. The role of the teacher in the educational system set up is very
consequential. It is a two way process like student and skills, or maybe two sides of the same
coin. It is beyond argument that good education is a backbone of the society and country system.

Hobbes, Marx, and Shah
The cold, calculating, and logical brains of Enlightenment thinkers are much different from the
emotional, fantasy loving mind of Romantics. The Enlightenment was an 18th century movement
in which rationality and science were placed as the number one things a human could have (Brians).
The Enlightenment also propagated the idea equality and liberalism (Brians). Romanticism was an
international movement which occurred after the Enlightenment during the late 1700s to the mid
1800s (Melani). It placed emotions at the forefront of human thought (Melani). Thomas Hobbes, a
very early Enlightenment thinker, has a variety of ideas which do not coincide with those of Karl
Marx, an early Romantic.

Therefore, when Hobbes speaks of a state of nature, he is speaking of a state without a governing
body. In the natural state, Every man was continually engaged in a war against all other men (
bellum universale ) ( The Philosophy of Thomas Hobbes ) in an effort to gain power ( Thomas
Hobbes ). In Hobbes s natural state, all men are equal insofar that each man is able to kill every
other man, be it through sheer force, cunning, or by joining his power with others against a
stronger foe (Williams). This equality leads Hobbes to claim that there is no natural source of
authority to order [men s] lives together, (Williams). Also in Hobbes s bellum universale, nothing
can be unjust. The notions of right and wrong, justice and injustice have no place [in the state of
nature], (Williams). The combination of Hobbesian equality and lack of a universal moral
system allow there for no agreed authority to decide if anyone s actions are allowable or not.
Unless people share the same moral ideas...at the level of individual judgment, (Williams), no
conclusion may be arrived at. However, identical moral ideas for each and every judgment on each
and every person are possible when political authority exists.
In a Hobbesian society, all men (except the chosen ruler or ruling body), agree to give up or limit
their rights (especially the singular right of nature) in order to create a social contract which

the use of plants, horticultural activities and landscape to promote health and the well being of the

Essay on Dialects in American Literature
Dialects in American Literature
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries dialect was not common in American Literature. Writers
who attempted to accurately capture American dialect and slang often failed to make it believable.
In my essay, Dialects in American Literature, I will compare and contrast three writers who used
dialect in their writings and explain the difference between effective and ineffective use of dialect.
The writers I will be discussing are Mark Twain, BretHarte, and William Dean Howells.
The use of dialect in American literature comes from using a combination of realism and
regionalism. According to dictionary.com realism is an inclination toward literal... Show more

In The Outcasts of Poker Flat, a group of inappropriate people are thrown out of a small western
town. What I mean by inappropriate, is that they were not liked by the local citizens. They were
considered outcasts. The outcast characters were, quot;Duchess, also known as quot;Mother
Shipton, quot; and quot;Uncle Billy, quot; a suspected sluice robber and confirmed drunkard. The
other character in the story is Mr. John Oakhurst, a gambler. Bret Harte establishes regionalism
through description of his characters and also the dialogue that he gives his characters. For
example, Uncle Billy says quot;Is this yer a d d picnic? quot; With inward scorn, as he surveyed
the sylvan group, the glancing firelight, and the tethered animals in the foreground hurst returns to
the group he speaks in a particular dialect.
This dialogue Hate uses is a great example of capturing dialect that is local to time and place.
The dialect portrays the way people actually talked. The story takes original characters and places
them in a typical western situation. Harte uses regionalism through dialect to successfully portray
his characters the way they actually are. I enjoyed reading The Outcasts of Poker Flat, and truly
believe that the use of dialect successfully portrayed the people of the time. According to Edward
O Brien in an essay written in 1923 about the advance of the

  • 2. Telluric Screw Research Paper In the 18th, century many elements were starting to be discovered so scientists faced the problem of trying to arrange them. At this time the actual masses of the elements could not be measured so instead they compared them with the mass of hydrogen, or the relative atomic mass. Firstly in 1862 Alexandre Beguyer de Chancoutois arranged the elements into a three dimensional form of classification called the telluric screw. The telluric screw plotted the elements on the outside of a cylinder where one complete turn corresponded to an atomic weight increase of 16. This resulted in curtain elements appearing on the same vertical line as other element after one full turn of the cylinder. These elements were elements that had similar properties to other elements. This was very helpful in the development of the periodic table because it was the first known time that the elements... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The periodic table is important for scientists today because it is an easy way to order elements based on trends and because of this we can quickly identify the trends and properties of an element just by looking at its position on the table. The table is useful for students and scientists because it helps predict the types of chemical reactions that are likely for an element. Rather than memorise facts and figures for each element, a quick glance at the table reveals a lot about the reactivity of an element, whether it is likely to conduct electricity, whether it is hard or soft, and many other characteristics. Not only does the table enable us to find out properties of known elements, but it can predict the properties of elements not yet discovered. Mendeleev was the first person to leave gaps in the periodic table for elements not yet discovered, so we can predict in much detail the properties of the element that would fit in the gaps that have been left ... • 5. Going To Eat At Home Or Restaurants Essay People all around the world are busy. Busy with school, work, and other extra activities. People find that going out to a restaurant would be quicker and more convenient. The fact remains that people have to eat, whether it be cooking at home or going out. Though cooking at home and eating out are are completely different ways to eat, they could not be any more different in quality, portion, and cost. When families eat at home, they know the ingredients that have been added to their meals and the quality of the food. Moreover, they know the cleanliness of where the food has been prepared. At home, they know if the person preparing has washed his/her hands. When going out to eat, the family has no idea what happens in the kitchen. Their food could have been spit on, dropped, or even possibly a hair from a cook could fall into their dish. The quality of food is important to the consumer, due to if the food does not taste well, more than likely they will not eat it. Also, the restaurant serves sometimes less quality than what you buy and less quantity. When going out to eat at a restaurant, people prefer to recieve their money s worth in the food they order. That typically comes down to portion sizes. as unhealthy as it is, most people do not know the proper portion and tend to eat the entire meal that is presented to them. While, at home, when families cook the meal themselves, the portions are smaller due to the recommended serving size of the meal. Most restaurants are guilty of serving anywhere from double to triple a normal food portion. Portion control is an important part in food. That makes it important to understand what a recommended serving size is for the food prepared is, and only ordering that amount. When families prepare their meals at home, they are able to control what goes on the plate, and what not to eat. Eating out at restaurants are typically portioned excessively, and some dishes can contain an entire day s worth of calories. It s hard to beat the convenience of going to a restaurant and having cooks prepare and serve the food is relaxing and eliminates the hassle of having to cook dinner. On the other hand, there are many great benefits of that cooking at home, such as price. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Federalist And The Anti Federalist In America today there are many political parties which include the Democrats and the Republicans. The beginning of political parties started in 1787 with the federalist, then later on the anti federalist in 1796. Alexander Hamilton was the leader of the federalist party. Thomas Jefferson was the leader of the anti federalist; who called themselves the Democratic Republicans. Our first president, George Washington warned us about having parties and the danger of them. However, not until Congress debated the ratification and implementation of Jay s Treaty with Great Britain did two political parties clearly emerge ; the Federalist and the Anti Federalist. Today the most influential parties are the Democrats and the Republicans. These parties win all of the presidential elections as of today. Political parties formed because the United States was beginning to grow and expand. Many people had different opinions and so political parties were formed. People were concerned about the how the new government was going to be organized. In 1787, the Federalist party, which was lead by Alexander Hamilton, was formed. Alexander Hamilton wrote the papers The Federalist and they were published in 1787 and 1788. The papers were about ratifying the constitution of the United States. This party was formed by people who had the same or similar beliefs as Alexander Hamilton. • 7. The 4 H s In The Odyssey Myths have a very important function in the story that may not be the most obvious idea. Myths explains a code of behavior with rewards and punishments. Odyssey explains the 4 H s through the actions and adventure of Odysseus. The 4 H s are the honor, hospitality, hubris, and heroism that comes from greek mythology. Honor means reputation of excellence and back then in time of Odysseus it didn t necessarily mean one was to be a good person. Hospitality is retreating a stranger with respect and protection, and providing what they need. Hubris, the opposite of humility, refers to extreme, ignorant pride or arrogance which is can be punished by the gods. Heroism using one s brains as much as they use their muscle. First, throughout the story we can see Odysseus achieve honor. However Odysseus honor is different from ours. He killed men and kidnapped women for honor. After he received an image of a god using it to prove that he is actually Odysseus, Lithe and young she made him, ruddy with sun, his jawline clean, the beard no longer gray upon his chin. Your cloak is new: even your skin! You are one of the gods who rule the sweep of heaven! (line 1019 1027). Essay On Bossa Nova As Christopher Small, it is true that there is no culture ever disappears but it is transformed over and over again through the new one (Small, On cultures and their fusion 1998). Bossa nova, means „new trend‟, is a kind of Brazilian music that is transformed by two fusion; samba and strong American jazzinfluenced (Wikipedia). It was known in 1957 and 1963 especially among young students and musicians who would like to bring a complicated combination of melody to be harmony and be more relaxing rather than using powerful voice and strong meaning. According to Tom Jobim, one of the fathers of bossa nova, said music is the silence between the notes (Just landed 2016). The interesting point is „where and how did Bossa Nova start?‟ The paper... It shows how influence for a musical style developed in a peripheral country as Brazil was introduced in a large and central market place as the American (New World Encyclopedia). Bossa nova becomes well known in worldwide; not only in Brazil and North America. It is because of convenient communication and easier crossing borders among different national people by new technologies (Administrator_v 2006). The transnationalism makes the world be „hybridization‟ and deterritorialization because places are reproducing and transformation in the appropriate way (Appadurai 1990). In the 21 st century, people in the global world tend to appreciate and enjoy the music purely without consciousness of the history and the transnational from the origins of it. Moreover, most of the current music is produced for business term without recognition of the original history of it. The fascinating history of the music is faded away (Reed 2013). Later in the story, Sophy asks Randolph if she can marry the man she has always loved, Sam. Quite unsurprisingly, Randolph rejects the idea, as having 2 parents in low classes in the hierarchy would be a liability to his profile in the upper class. However, Randolph injects venom into his rejection, saying, I am ashamed of you! It will ruin me! A miserable boor! A churl! A clown! It will degrade me in the eyes of all the gentlemen of England! This process of technologization has grown exponentially since the nineties and the beginning of the Internet, which has significantly decreased boundaries of communication. Some expert agreed that new technologies would make communication and exchange easier, and thus give an incentive to communicate with other people. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This process has changed a lot over centuries; people do not communicate the same ways. The Internet access is a good indicator of this change because it allows people to communicate in many different ways such as social networks, email, or video calls (Skype). According to the INSEE, the number of French households with an access to the Internet grew from 12 % to 64 % in ten years. The first reason why new technologies dismiss social relationships is because more technologies mean less face to face and therefore less communication. Most of digital technologies such as the Internet, cellphones, television, and video games feature screens, which people use to communicate. According to Krystel Tong s presentation, 57 per cent of people are more likely to communicate online rather than by face to face. However, tone and body language are key points of communication, therefore this lack of face to face communication can lead to misunderstandings. According the BBC news, for some people this lack of interaction also creates a feeling of isolation. A survey done by researchers from University of Michigan showed that the more people use Facebook the more they feel lonely and deserted. • 13. Narrative About Being Reaped In a bright sunrise that adumbrated the potential that lay ahead, a field of corn seized my attention on one summer run. Staring into the cornfield, I pondered which ones would be perfect enough to be reaped. I realized, however, that many of them would be abandoned, because they succumbed to bugs, contracted diseases, or were just inferior. My life was eerily representative of the plight of the corn. It all commenced with a perverse inquiry: Hilton Head Island, a resort city on the Atlantic Ocean, is in what state? I was mortified. I had never answered a question wrong in the school level geography bee before. Earning top twelve in the states in fifth and sixth grade made me poised to possibly make Nationals that year, resulting in high expectations from nearly everyone I knew. Hastily, I wrote down my best educated guess, hoping that the boy I was facing (who incidentally bullied me incessantly throughout middle school) would err as well. • 14. The Allegheny Woodrat ( Neotoma Magister ) Introduction The Allegheny woodrat (Neotoma magister) is a small mammal that is endemic to the United States. They live in the eastern part of the United States in deciduous forests. Their species can be found from the Appalachian Mountains through the interior Highland regions, including western Connecticut to northern Alabama (Castleberry et al 2006). Woodrats are restricted to areas that have rocky structures such as caves, fissures, and boulder piles and live within the spaces between rocks (Castleberry et al. 2006). Rocky habitats are good living spaces for them because the crevices provide protection from predators and also create a den environment for young to develop. Since rocky areas are usually distributed in patches throughout an environment, woodrats are considered to be metapopulations because their populations are separated (Castleberry et al. 2002). Other animals that can be found using the same rocky habitats for denning, roosting, or nesting include the Rafinesque s big eared bat (Corynorhinus rafinesquii), Townsend s big eared bat (C. townsendii), common raven (Corvus corax), long tailed weasel (Mustela frenata), eastern small footed myotis (Myotis leibii), eastern spotted skunk (Spilogale putorius), and American black bear (Ursus americanus) (Castleberry et al. 2006). The different types of species that live in the community creates competition and leaves woodrat populations vulnerable. Competition and predators are examples of factors that ... How was the samurai warrior killed and his wife violated in lonely woodlands at a time of dissonance in medieval Japan? Suspects emerge and an inquisition is held. But why do all players profess their guilt, rather than protest their innocence? Kurosawa has taken two stories (the 1950 filmis loosely based on the works of writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa) and created a multifaceted masterpiece peppered with shifts and contrasts. He delves into aggression and accountability to explore the collective Japanese consciousness after World War Two. He considers the meaning of truth and the judging of others. Kurosawa himself wrote: These strange impulses of the human heart would be exposed through the use of an elaborately fashioned play of light and dark (Akira Kurosawa, Something Like an Autobiography, p 182). It would be a keynote for the entire film (Akira Kurosawa, Interviews, edited by Bert Cardullo, p. 176). That keynote is struck as the woodcutter recalls the crime. • 18. Theme Of Foreshadowing In A Doll House A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen, is a play that follows Nora Helmer and her husband Torvald Helmer through the holiday season and the fall of their marriage. Within the two acts there are many figurative language devices used to help further the story along, however, there are a few in specific that stand out. The play s foreshadowing, symbolism, and irony all contribute the most to the play s overall development of Nora s self affirmation. Foreshadowing in A Doll House is present from the beginning of the story. Much of which is not noticeable until later events. In the beginning of Act 1 Nora hides her macaroons from Torvald, HELMER: Hasn t Miss Sweet Tooth been breaking rules in town today? ... taken a bite at a macaroon or two? NORA: No, Torvald. (Ibsen, 1657). Although it is minor in nature, it reveals Nora s character of being rebellious despite Torvald s wishes. The effect this characterization has on the story is that she is not the obeying wife that many were in the Victorian Era. Through this foreshadowing the reader can begin to identify the conflicts of Nora and Torvald s relationship that get developed on as the play progresses. Another example of foreshadowing is in Act 2 when Nora is getting ready to leave out to town, when she engages in a conversation with Anne Marie about the children asking, Do they ask for me much? . To which Anne Marie responds, They re so used to having Mama around, you know. . This is important because Nora replies with, Yes, but Anne Marie, I can t be together with them as much as I was. (Ibsen, 1675). This hints towards Nora abandoning her role as a mother, which in the end occurs when she leaves Torvald to find herself and become independent. The foreshadowing throughout the play contributed to the dramatic ending. Symbolism in A Doll House is another key element in the development of the play. The setting of the play was during Christmas Eve throughout December 26th. Typically, this is the ending of the year and represents family being together. However, as the play progresses, the optimistic outlook on Christmas that is expected changes. In the opening description of the setting in Act 1 Nora tells Helene, Hide the tree well... Native Americans in Late 19th Century Native Americans in the late 19th century The reservations system is quite a complex matter and understanding the consistency and membership of the reservations can be hard, depending on the particular issue being handled. It is worth noting however that all the Indians born in the USA are citizens and are subject to federal and tribal laws though not generally to the state laws. The federal law limits their self governance hence they do not retain the all powers. They are endowed with the power to control the land use and ownership, execute their legal system (though under the supervision of the federal government particularly on criminal issues) as well as raise the local taxes. According to American Indians Cultural Network (2000), the federal reservations are about 300 in number and most are in the West with 20 state reservations mainly in the East. The reservations have a history that dates back to the 1840s and were inhabited by the Plains Indians. The Importance Of Religious Holiday Observances In Schools A religious holiday observance can be defined as: a worship service or ceremony of any kind, religious holiday exhibits/displays, the enactment of a religious drama, wearing religious items, and even the presentation of religious music and singing religious holiday hymns. Despite these guidelines and intentions of administration, sectarian holiday observances during Christmasand Easter still tend to take place in schools across the country. There can be multiple causes for this though. First of all, many teachers may not know or understand the court decisions and how to apply them within their classrooms. Clearly by these laws, you should not display religious symbols like the cross, however, few people are aware of the fact that courts are also concerned with the timing, context, and grade levels that are involved in these classroom programs. For example, if there is a grade wide holiday music production that has a Christmas hymn, they might get questions like What song will be sung? Where will it take place? What is the purpose of this within the curriculum? And what effect will singing them have on the students as well as the audience? As an educator I have not really thought about Christmas music as a whole in the classroom. I m sure that a music teacher is more aware of it, but as a general teacher I wouldn t have even thought about playing Christmas music in the classroom as being a controversial thing until now. First off a doctor patient relationship must have existed (Boeschen, 2014). An individual making the claim must show that there was a physician patient relationship with the doctor being sued. This means the doctor was hired and agreed to be hired for the medical care provided. If a doctor began seeing you and treating you, it is easy to prove a physician patient relationship existed. Second the plaintiff must show the doctor was negligent. Regardless of if the patient is unhappy with their treatment or results, does not determine the doctor is liable for medical malpractice. Further steps toward Israeli Arab peace, including the Cairo Agreement, Oslo II and the Camp David Summit, have fallen short of the goals of both parties. • 32. Not Our Stars, But The Most Well Known Epic Poems Of The... Not in Our Stars, But in Ourselves Whose fault? / Whose but his own? is a question that has been raised many times in human history (Milton 3.96). Many authors and poets have tackled the question of why humanity is constantly tested and tempted to sin, and, further, whether humanity has the free will to decide its own fate. After the Reformation of the Catholic church that created Protestantism, the idea of predestination was very popular. Protestant ideology claimed that only a few people were destined to be saved or damned by God, and that only some people will be saved. This created a general anxiety about faith and free will in Renaissance England, leading many to question who was at fault when human beings sin. Two of the most well known epic poems of the Renaissance era are The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser and Paradise Lost by John Milton. Both poems feature characters that face trials and tribulations, and how the respective poems deal with the trails reveals different ideas about fate, free will, and the idea of being tested. Both poems use temptation relation to female bodies and sexual desire, diverse reactions to falling and failure, and prophecy that contribute to two different ideas about free will and the role of God in the lives of his creations. Female seduction and sexual temptation are featured both in The Faerie Queene and Paradise Lost, but are represented in different ways. • 33. The Relationship Between Revolution, State Reform, And... The relationships between revolution, state reform, and industrialization came in a succession form. The ideas that were brought to light during the revolutions later defined how the states were reformed. The reformed states would later take on industrialization. During the American and French Revolutions some ideas were brought up that later defined the state formations. The idea of popular sovereignty allowed for states to become more democratic. This idea to allow the people to have some authority over the sovereign was brought about by John Locke. People wanted freedom, individual freedom to be exact. In terms of political and legal equality, the idea was that all individuals would be equal under the law. State reformation began through acquiring independence. Independence was acquired by means of war and conflict. There was later American, Haitian, Brazilian, and Mexican independence. For the Haitian Revolution, a slave revolt broke out and was led by a man named Toussaint L Ouverture. Mexico became independent due to Napoleon invading Spain and weakening the royal control of the colonies and the independence movement led by SimГіn Bolivar. Pedro the King s son agreed to an independent Brazil. Industrialization began through new inventions and use of material. Coal replaced the use of wood. Contrasting the situation with the wealthy world is enough to realize that the USA has a serious problem of carbon dioxide emission. If we compare the emission with a poor developing nation like Nepal, the problem is much clearer or, precisely, scary. CO2 emission in metric tons per capita for the United States in 2005 was close to 20 (Brooks 27). Moreover, in 2013, the measurement for the USA was still 16.4 while that for Nepal was 0.2 ( CO2 Emissions (Metric Tons per Capita) ). With all the focus towards competing industrially with other wealthy countries, consequently, the USA has not had enough attention towards the resulting problem from carbon emission. In the natural state, Every man was continually engaged in a war against all other men ( bellum universale ) ( The Philosophy of Thomas Hobbes ) in an effort to gain power ( Thomas Hobbes ). In Hobbes s natural state, all men are equal insofar that each man is able to kill every other man, be it through sheer force, cunning, or by joining his power with others against a stronger foe (Williams). This equality leads Hobbes to claim that there is no natural source of authority to order [men s] lives together, (Williams). Also in Hobbes s bellum universale, nothing can be unjust. The notions of right and wrong, justice and injustice have no place [in the state of nature], (Williams). The combination of Hobbesian equality and lack of a universal moral system allow there for no agreed authority to decide if anyone s actions are allowable or not. Unless people share the same moral ideas...at the level of individual judgment, (Williams), no conclusion may be arrived at. However, identical moral ideas for each and every judgment on each and every person are possible when political authority exists. In a Hobbesian society, all men (except the chosen ruler or ruling body), agree to give up or limit their rights (especially the singular right of nature) in order to create a social contract which ... • 55. Essay on Dialects in American Literature Dialects in American Literature In the late 19th and early 20th centuries dialect was not common in American Literature. Writers who attempted to accurately capture American dialect and slang often failed to make it believable. In my essay, Dialects in American Literature, I will compare and contrast three writers who used dialect in their writings and explain the difference between effective and ineffective use of dialect. The writers I will be discussing are Mark Twain, BretHarte, and William Dean Howells. The use of dialect in American literature comes from using a combination of realism and regionalism. According to dictionary.com realism is an inclination toward literal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Outcasts of Poker Flat, a group of inappropriate people are thrown out of a small western town. What I mean by inappropriate, is that they were not liked by the local citizens. They were considered outcasts. The outcast characters were, quot;Duchess, also known as quot;Mother Shipton, quot; and quot;Uncle Billy, quot; a suspected sluice robber and confirmed drunkard. The other character in the story is Mr. John Oakhurst, a gambler. Bret Harte establishes regionalism through description of his characters and also the dialogue that he gives his characters. For example, Uncle Billy says quot;Is this yer a d d picnic? quot; With inward scorn, as he surveyed the sylvan group, the glancing firelight, and the tethered animals in the foreground hurst returns to the group he speaks in a particular dialect. This dialogue Hate uses is a great example of capturing dialect that is local to time and place. The dialect portrays the way people actually talked. The story takes original characters and places them in a typical western situation. Harte uses regionalism through dialect to successfully portray his characters the way they actually are. I enjoyed reading The Outcasts of Poker Flat, and truly believe that the use of dialect successfully portrayed the people of the time. According to Edward O Brien in an essay written in 1923 about the advance of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
