Josh s Rule In The Crossover By Kwame Alexander
In the novel The Crossover by Kwame Alexander, the rule most relatable to Josh is the third basketball
rule. The basketball rules are a list that Josh s dad created so that Josh and his brother stay motivated
and to keep on following his dreams. I think this is the most useful rule for Josh because he will need
it after his father s death. The third basketball rule is Never let anyone lower your goals. Other s
expectations of you are determined by their limitations of life. The sky is your limit, sons. Always
shoot for the sun and you will shine (Alexander, 66). Josh s dad had hypertension and he didn t get it
treated; therefore, he died. Josh s dad encouraged Josh to keep playing basketball and follow his

He will have to keep his goals, and not get discouraged. He has been ridiculed before by his own

The man credited with the birth of the classical school was Cesaer Beccaria (1738 1794), who
emerged during the enlightenment period of the eighteenth century. Some argue that criminology as an
independent discipline only emerged about 60 70 years ago (Garland 2002), and whilst not concerned
with studying criminals per se in the same way that we most associate with criminology today, the
classical school was hugely influential in the formation of Criminal Justice System as we know it
today. Farner (cited in Taylor et al 1973) a nineteenth century commentator on Beccaria asserts :
Whatever improvement our penal laws have undergone in the last hundred years is due primarily to
Beccaria, and, to an extent that has not always been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The courts were made up of the rich and punishments were ad hoc both as to how severe a punishment
may be and also in terms of whether a punishment would in fact take place at all. The degree of any
punishment would be largely dependent upon the personal views of the judge, jury s would often
include the victim of the alleged offence, and there were no sentences set in law. Defendants were
generally of the lower classes and as such not treated equally. Punishment should not be dependent
upon social status, and Beccaria argued it is the judges duty to determine the guilt or innocence of the
accused based on fact, not on social status, if found guilty, then the judge should impose the penalty
prescribed by law (Beccaria cited in Curran et al 1994 11)
Beccaria questioned whether the extreme and tortuous punishments (which often included the death
penalty) routinely dished out even had any effect in terms of deterring crime. In his most important
works Dei delitti e delle pene, or On Crimes and Punishments Beccaria asked:
But what are to be the proper punishments for such crimes? Is the death penalty really useful and
necessary for the security and good order of society? Are torture and torments just and do they attain
the end for which laws are instituted? What is the best way to prevent crimes? Are the same

Overview and Background of Lean Manufacturing
Overview and Background of Lean Manufacturing
History of Lean Manufacturing
Toyota Production System Overview
The concept of Lean Manufacturing gets is roots from car manufacturing in the early 1930s and
1940s. Stemming from innovative production techniques developed and implemented by Henry Ford,
modern day Lean Manufacturing was developed by Taiichi Ohno of Toyota Motor Company after
World War II as a result of the diverse market conditions the company faced.
At a time when western car manufactures, like Ford and General Motors, where using mass
production and economies of scale manufacturing methods, Toyota faced very different business
conditions. Toyota s market was very small and diverse, leaving the organization to ... Show more

Just as with Lean Manufacturing, Lean Construction focuses on establishing value, as defined by the
customer, it with the goal of constructing a product that delivers on that value. Thus, value must come
before planning and design. (Mohammed).
Principle 2: Identify and Map Value Stream
In Lean Manufacturing the value stream identifies the necessary steps for developing and creating a
product that is valuable from the customer s perspective. In other words, the value stream determines
how and when decisions are made in the production process.
Lean Construction uses a similar technique called value stream mapping, as known as process
mapping, to understand how a construction project will be designed, supplied, and built. Hence, this is
where the planning and design aspects mentioned in the above section, come into play. Typical Lean
Construction value stream maps consist of the following:
Problem solving tasks: ranging from concept through detailed design and engineering to production
launch.
Information management tasks: ranging from order taking through detailed scheduling to delivery.
Physical transformation tasks: ranging from raw materials to producing finished products that get
delivered into the hands of the customer.
As demonstrated above, these mapping techniques highlight how the construction plan, design,
logistics, and operation

The Importance Of Poetry In Literature
Danish Faruqi
Sometimes you come to hate things not because of what they are, but because of what meant to you.
They haven t done anything particularly done anything to you directly. But them being in your
presence doesn t help. I don t hate a lot of things, and in literature, that list is even smaller. Through
my experiences in 12th grade, I realized my new found hatred for confessional poetry and its effects.
Due to my experiences, I don t appreciate or rather take notice to literature that might be very
interesting.
For our Highschool, 12th grade was an interesting year, especially since this was the first year that an
inter school debate talks would take place. Something that was sponsored by the chancellor and the
mayor. Before we even knew about this competition, our class was chosen. When we got to know
about this, the class and the teacher didn t share the same enthusiasm, to say the least. We were
reluctant to participate in anything that put us in front of cameras or other people. But the teacher was
startled and proud that one of her classes was chosen to participate. And thus, the race to compete was
on.
Since the debate talks were on Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own, it required us to understand
her style of writing Stream of Consciousness. From there on, our part was to understand a book which
has multiple meanings and multiple perspectives. To make things easier, our teacher chose to use
confessional poetry as a method to uplift only

The Last Mohicans
The Last of the Mohicans Essay Everyone knows the famously old Arabic proverb, The enemy of my
enemy is my friend and how it demonstrates itself in various points throughout history. The movie The
Last Mohicans , which based of the bloody true event of the French and Indian War in 1757, is
certainly no exception. The film portrays the interactions, as well as relationships between the two
Native American tribes, the French, and the English. In the beginning, there was no separation of
which tribe was which. Due to the lack of identification, there was no distinction of tribes until the
main Huron, Magua, led the British troop into a Huron ambush while escorting them to the Fort.
Unlike their peaceful comparison tribe, the Mohicans, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite having a somewhat uncertain alliance, the Natives treated the soldiers with respect, even
referring to commanders as their English Fathers . Frontiersmen, or colonists, also were also honored,
due to the tight bond they shared with the tribe in everyday life. In comparison to the vengeful enemy,
the small tribe acted on keeping the English colonists, as well as the military, safe from the French and
their ally. To counteract the quiet ambush style of the Hurons, many survival techniques such as
walking along a waterfall to mask the sound of movement were shown to the few English to conceal
their position. These procedures kept the few still standing English alive, without the tops of their
heads cut off (for the time being). Albeit most interactions were positive, some were going against the
unwritten alliance. Seeing many colonists houses decimated and the inhabitants killed, it was
understandable for the men to want to get back home and defend the remaining frontier homes.
However, the English commanders would not allow them to return home to defend their own land, as
previously promised. Seeing them so desperate and witnessing the horrors of what the Hurons could
do, the Mohicans decided to help the colonists escape from the Fort, but for a price. Considered to
now to be traitors, the English captains took them prisoner in hand bindings, as if they had not saved
them from certain death from French soldiers and Huron tribesmen countless of times. Overall, the
relationship was mostly beneficial for the English, whereas the Mohicans only really prevented
themselves from becoming prisoners of the king

Home Schooling Vs. Home School
An ever growing and popular way of educating young minds is home education or home schooling.
An estimated 2.3 million students are home schooled in the United States, which is an increased
amount from 2010 when the home school estimate number was 2 million(Ray) It s an interesting and
effective choice that s been popularized for a reason. Home schooling positively affects a child s
development by allowing them the chance to discover themselves instead of falling into the
conformity that is instilled in schools. In the process, statistically, they receive a better education with
higher test scores than students in the public school system. Reasons for home schooling Home school
is quickly becoming mainstream in the United states as a popular alternative way of education for a
number of personal reasons. The reasons range from parent to parent or guardian to guardian. The
number one most used reason parents or guardians home school children is that they believe they can
give their children a better education (ABC). Children all around the U.S. are in session for a
minimum of 6.5 hours every school day. With an average of 24 students per classroom in an average
primary school (Rampell), and only one teacher per classroom; not enough individualized and
uninterrupted attention is being given to each student. Home schooling provides personalized teaching
from a point of view that is able to customize a unique lesson plan for one student. The teacher has the

Why Do We Need International Criminal Court
Do we need an international criminal court ? The International Criminal Court (ICC), governed by the
Rome Statute, is the first interminable, treaty based, international criminal court established to help
end exemptions for the perpetrators of the most serious and heinous crimes of concern to the
international community. The ICC was mandated in July of 1998 but was bought into force by July of
2002.1 The Rome Statute is a mutual treaty which serves as the ICC s foundational and leading
document. States which become party to the Rome Statute, for example by passing it, become member
states of the ICC. Currently, there are 122 states which are party to the Rome Statute and as a result
are members of the ICC.2 The creation of the International Criminal Court is a global response to the
extreme mayhem perpetrated in the last century. Unfortunately, in all too many cases, terrible crimes
went unpunished and a alleged culture of impunity protected the perpetrators. National courts often
did not investigate the crimes adequately, or at all. The International criminal court was established at
the Paris Peace Conference Following the First World War, because some of the most heinous crimes
were committed during the conflicts which marked the twentieth century.3 Unfortunately, many of
these violations of international law have remained unpunished and the role of the International
criminal court was to bring past and future dreadful crimes to trial and to be punished, and

What Is The Film Picnic At Hanging Rock
Picnic at Hanging Rock is a spectacular film released in 1975, created with the beauty of the
Australian landscape, and a physical representation of director Peter Weir s fascination with the way
the extraordinary and irrational lurk threateningly at the edges of the ordinary and the rational.
Based on a book by Joan Lindsay, Picnic at Hanging Rock takes us to a girls finishing school in
Australia during 1900, where a group of teenage girls and their teachers embark on a picnic trip to a
local landmark the Hanging Rock. While the girls rest at the foot of the rock, a group of four girls
begins to explore the rock. However, something unexplained happens and three of the girls fail to

Some believe its true while others believe it s a myth. Regardless, it is a haunting yet engaging film
that captures the serenity and mystic of Hanging Rock located in central Victoria, Australia and the
harshness and mystery of the Australian bush.
Picnic at Hanging Rock brilliantly captures the bush landscape and hot climate of Australia in multiple
high and low angled scenes throughout the entire film. The way the camera cleverly projects the scale
of the vegetation and rock compared to the size of the young girls shows the vast size and contrasts of
our Australian landscape. The blinding sun against some of the scenes causes the characters dizziness
and fatigue, surreally contrasting the rock s beauty and the danger it presents.
The composer, Peter Weir also creates a dense, dream like atmosphere throughout the film that forever
is on the verge of intoxicating the viewers, as is does the lead characters, in an overpowering sense of
longing and repression. With soft focus lenses and careful camera tilts, Weir takes us into a world of
golden glows and gentle whispers, where the characters exist as hazy, evocative

The Impact Of Ancient Greek Theater And Tragedy

The Impact of Ancient Greek Theater and Tragedy Ancient Greek culture has influenced our modern
culture in many ways from philosophy to medicine to government. We still use many of their
concepts, technology, and even alphabet system. Without ancient Greece, our modern world would not
have advanced as far. A significant contribution of the ancient Greek culture to the world today is the
Greek theater, more specifically the structure of tragedy. Some contributions are the structure of
tragedy in modern literature, rise of opera, and the creation of the theater. Greek drama originally
started out as a ritual to honor the god of wine, Dionysus, by the cult of Dionysus. In the ritual, drunk
men dressed up in goat skin would sing and have dialogue in chorus to welcome the leader, the person
acting as Dionysus (Sayre 151). In these revel filled festivals, men dressed as satyrs, companions of
Dionysus who are half man and half goat, while the women dressed up as maenads, the immortal
followers of Dionysus. As the participants become drunk and filled with ecstasy, they transform into a
different identity from before. Later on this behavior became the satyr play, a form of Greek drama.
Tragedy is said to be originated from the Dionysian rites, where the name comes from tragoidos,
which means the goat song from the satyrs companions of Dionysus who are half man and half goat.
This could be in reference to the fact that Dionysus was also the

Millions of people suffer daily from incurable diseases. The reality for a person affected by an
incurable disease is that from the moment they are diagnosed and even before that back to the moment
they experienced their first symptom, they will have their disease. While these diseases do not have a
cure, treatments do exist to manage the symptoms. Often, the prescription drugs available to sufferers
of these painful, sometimes life threatening ailments are expensive and carry side effects of their own.

The first and possibly most important fact to which many people are uneducated is the idea that users
of medical cannabis are getting stoned, but the reality is that scientists are capable of modifying strains
of cannabis used medically to contain low amounts of the intoxicant, tetrahydrocannabiniol, more
commonly known as THC, and higher amounts of cannabidiol (Coulter and Jenewein). In most cases
medical cannabis is not ingested as an inhalant but instead as an orally administered oil. Another
common argument against cannabis is damage caused to the hippocampus which can cause short and
long term memory impairment, very real side effects that should be considered and monitored for
carefully, but studies have discovered the potential to combat these issues with the use of non steroidal
anti inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen (Welberg). While there is still much to learn about the use
of cannabis medically, it should be remembered that there is still much to learn about many medical
treatments and options but unlike cannabis, other treatments do not have an accompanying stereotype

Technology Learning And Teaching Language
Technology in learning and teaching language
Introduction
The innovation of communication technology has had a major impact on teaching language and how it
is learnt, causing a major paradigm shift in authorship and how language is disseminated in a
community. This paper will critique the important issue on how language is related to technology and
these are the status of what is referred to as CALL (Computer assisted learning language), its cultural
influence, its effectiveness and theoretic overview. Additional to this, the paper will analyse the
findings of electronic literacy, research on how the technology in learning and teaching can have an
impact on the essence of teachers, and electronic telecommunication and tele collaboration.
Computer Assisted Learning Language (CALL)

Gender Voting Rights In The Search For Equal Rights
Since the beginning of time women have been viewed as inferior to men. Slowly, women have
chipped away at this social construct from protesting for voting rights to joining the armed forces.
Although women have made great advances in the search for equal rights, there are still many
drawbacks even in the 21st century. Gender wage gap, double standards, and social media still
threaten to hinder women in their everyday lives.
Women have become more present in occupations traditionally male dominated. However, in 2015, a
woman made 83% of what a man made. At this rate, it would take a woman 44 extra days of work to
earn the same amount as a man. Why is this? Women continue to be more commonly present in lower
paying jobs. This could be a big contributor to the pay gap. Another reason could be gender
discrimination. According to a survey in 2013 by the Pew Research Center, women were two more
times as likely to say they had been discriminated against at work (Brown and Patten).
Another problem for women is lack of respect. Too often are men respected or congratulated for
things that women are shamed for. For one example, women are endlessly shamed for having too
many sexual partners. However, if a man has sexual relations with many women he is applauded. A
woman s appearance is considered very important in today s culture. A woman who did not wake up
and do her hair and makeup is often seen as lazy or a slob. There are not as many physical
expectations of men. In the

(B) We used a combination of three market segmentation variables using two different approaches. We
chose these variables because we feel that they are the best choices for differentiating between market
segments. The first thing we did was use the Geographic approach to limit our scope. Using the
Regional variable to divide Canada into provinces, we decided to limit our market to that of

with the potential for growth. Then, using Market Density, we determined that since almost 40% of

Heart of Darkness, by Joseph Conrad, is an intriguing and extremely disturbing portrayal of man s
surrender to his carnal nature when all external trappings of civilization are removed. This novel
excellently portrays the shameful ways in which the Europeans exploited the Africans: physically,
socially, economically, and spiritually.
Throughout the nineteenth century, Europeans treated their African counterparts savagely. They were
beaten, driven from their homes, and enslaved. Heart of Darkness is no exception. In the first section
of the novel, Marlow is disgusted by the condition of the Africans at the First Station. His encounter

When the Europeans first came to Africa, they found a civilization that was extremely well developed,
albeit in a different way than traditional Western civilization. They discovered a continent that was
rich in many things, particularly gold, silver, and ivory. Far from the external checks of civilization
and motivated by their greed, they decided to exploit the riches they had discovered. The Africans
provided a ready labor force. So, the Europeans pressed them into labor by various means, ranging
from brute force to manipulation of their religious beliefs. For example, at the beginning of the novel,
Marlow encounters a chain gang that is forced to [balance] small baskets full of earth on their heads.
The earth they are carrying away is from the vast artificial hole that Marlow encountered earlier. The
natives are being forced to perform pointless, futile, demeaning tasks so that they will be more
submissive workers. The most widespread method for subjugating the Africans was that of brute
force. However, the Africans attempted to escape at every opportunity and the security measures
required to contain them were very demanding. A more effective method was manipulation of the
local religion. In Heart of Darkness, Kurtz comes to the natives with the thunder and lightening of

Discuss the Extent to Which a Reduction in the Rate of...
The definition of consumer expenditure is the amount of money spent by households in an economy.
The definition of investment is the spending by firms on capital good such as new machines etc.
Finally the definition of interest rates is the proportion of a loan that is charged as interest to the
borrower, normally expressed as an annual percentage. In the UK the interest rates are set by the
Monetary Policy Committee and are usually used in order to influence levels of aggregate demand.
Primarily, you must understand that lowering the rate of interest will make it cheaper for people to
borrow as well as make it cheaper to pay back existing loans. As a result, firms may use this money
that they have saved to spend on upgrading the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, if the interest rate was low before the cut then it may not appear to have a very big
impact because people will have already have been taking advantage of the small cost of borrowing.
Obviously if the interest rate was very high discouraging people from borrowing and in turn reducing
consumer expenditure and investment by firms, then a rapid cut could see a high rise in the aggregate
demand. Moreover, if someone is in the middle of paying back a mortgage on something like a house
and interest rates fall they will effectively have more money because they will not be paying more on
top of their mortgage on interest.
On the other hand, the reasons for increases of consumer expenditure and investment levels as
mentioned above are only all valid if ceteris paribus is assumed. In reality, both factors of aggregate
demand can be affected by multiple other external factors for example, consumer expenditure can be
affected by the marginal prosperity to consume amongst consumers and therefore if this is very low
then a cut in interest will see a minimal change in consumption and investment levels. In terms of
consumers and firms if a large cut were to occur it would have a far superior effect in comparison to a
small cut which could potentially have no impact. As well as this it can also be affected by the Income

Comparing a Dou Vessel to a Zun Vessel Essay
When comparing two relatively similar artistic objects from the same culture, there will invariably be
similarities and differences between the two pieces. This is the case when analyzing a Dou Vessel
from late 5th to early 4th century BCE China as well as a Zun Vessel from 13th century BCE. Both
objects have similar purposes as well as certain aspects of design. However, they differ on other points
of design and are also dramatically different in size. The parallels and distinctions of the two pieces
are reflective of the cultural disparities and different methods of manufacturing during the two eras of
creation. This particular Zun vessel was introduced during the Shang dynasties rule over China. Its
production took place in close ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Zun has intricate images woven through the entire object, including a variety of animal motifs.
This can be interpreted as steps towards bold assertive statements and even baroque ornamentation.
(Thorp, p. 85) There are multiple dragons inscribed on the image, a feature shared with the Dou
Vessel. The use of animals signifies an understanding of the animal form as well as infusing life and
excitement into the pieces. (Lee, p. 47) Both items also benefit from the implementation inlays.
However, the inlay usage on the Zun vessel is black pigment. This is in stark contrast to the gold
pigment inlay used in the Dou Vessel. The gold inlay in the Dou vessel, which has a leaf like
decoration, symbolizes a new design characteristic that was not popular during the creation of the Zun
vessel. (Lee, p. 48) In addition to the distinctions in uses of inlay, the two objects also differ greatly in
size, possibly a reflection of the cultural differences. The Zun vessel has features that almost double
that of the Dou vessel in terms of diameter and height. Unlike the Dou vessel, which contains handles,
the Zun vessels ring base design compels one to carry the object on a shoulder. (Thorp, p. 73) This
could in part be because during the Shang period, many of these pieces like the Zun were used for cult
rituals and activities. (Thorp, p. 61) Drinking was a significant facet of some of these Shang offerings,
which also included offerings in

Continuous Sexual Trajectory Essay
Continuous Sexual Trajectory
In his Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis, Freud works inductively towards a theory of the
(sexual) mind. The lectures consider years of psychoanalytic experience and try to fit them into a
framework, in the process always slightly altering both the data and the theory. His primary interest
lies in the competitive interplay of libido the pleasure seeking unconscious part of the mind and the
ego the rational and socially constituted character who internalizes norms and tries to tame the libido.
The pleasure that the libido presses for is firstly sexual, but for Freud this expansive term indicates
any kind of pleasure derived from physical contact. Working from these terms, he tries ... Show more

Relying on an analogy with seedlings, Freud suggests that adults would not have the particularities of
their sexual lives without a root cause, and that origin must have been childhood. For Freud, the child
is necessarily a sexual being (403). It is unclear if he acknowledges other elements in the lives of
children, as he classifies many typical childhood activities as sexual, e.g. suckling the breast or thumb,
playing, and generally expressing themselves and their organs. It is safe to say that the sexual is at
least, in his theory, a significant portion of childhood (404). The original source of pleasure, in Freud s
experience (with mostly bourgeois Viennese patients), is the mother s breast, thus the first stage of
childhood development is the oral stage. The later switch to thumb sucking is only another expression
of this same urge to stimulate the erotogenic (pleasure creating) zone of the mouth. Children move
onto the anal stage when they enter conflict with their parents (or other adult figure) over control of
their excretion. Freud explains that children derive pleasure from excretion, and thus it is important to
them and a focus of children s (sexual) lives (407). Soon they mature to the final erotogenic zone, and
the genitals should thereafter serve as the exclusive source of pleasure. The gist seems to be that each
stage offers more pleasure than the previous, despite increasing

Descriptive Essay About The Picasso
The Picasso It was my first day in the United States of America, travelling all the way from Nepal to
witness this amazing city. I was mesmerized by the skyline and obviously the food. I was carving for
my native Nepali food and to my amazement, there are many restaurants of nearly all the cuisines.
Chicago is a city with over 2.7 million residents (Wikipedia, City of Chicago), living in the biting cold
weather still happy and trying to cope up with the hustle and bustle of the big city. It has nearly all the
ethnic cultures within the neighborhood, if one wants to experience any of these ethnic cultures they
simply need to pay a visit to these neighborhoods. Now, talking about the skyline the architecture is
amazing, done with perfection and will leave you awe struck. It masters in all the international styles
and the maintenance of these buildings are the top priority for the Chicagoans. I didn t find a single
building in a bad condition and not only the buildings look good they are very safe too. All the
buildings have well maintained facilities in case of an emergency. I took a short nap in the hotel and
then left for a city tour, which was offered by the Chicago trolley. There I saw a huge dark metal
structure which was challenging you to interpret it. I got down and started admiring the structure and
was trying to understand the artist s purpose. I noticed it was called The Picasso , it left me in a deep
thought on what is the purpose of the gift and the history

The Goal Of A Landing Page
The Goal of a Landing Page You spend valuable time and energy on marketing your products or
services. You probably use tactics like email marketing, social media marketing, and content
marketing. Each tactic is designed to drive traffic to your website where they will then become
followers, prospects, and hopefully customers. However, if you re sending all of your website visitors
to the same page then you may be missing out. And if that same page is a home page or even a blog
post then that too can be a cause for lost revenue. Enter the landing page... A landing page is a website
page that has one singular goal. Unlike a home page that may have multiple goals and options for your
visitor to choose from, your landing page has one goal. There are a few different options for a landing
page. Landing page goals can include capturing your visitors email address. It can also capture their
attention and direct them to click through to a sales page and a landing page may also sell a product.
So what s the difference between a landing page, a sales page, and a squeeze page/opt in page? A
landing page is called that because it s where a specific audience lands. You can have a landing page
for your email subscribers and a different landing page (that may sell the same thing) for your social
media followers. Landing pages give you the ability and the power to craft customized content for
each unique marketing tactic and each segment of your audience. So you can use your landing page to

There are two questions to consider on this topic:
How can a company determine if it receives a return on this investment? How can it be measured? If
we just look at the overall performance of the company, how can we determine the contribution of just
the CEO?
Can the large salaries of CEO be justified morally? Is this fair from the perspective of distributive
justice? Give reason why it is fair or not fair.
A company can determine if it receives a return on the investment of paying a CEO a particular
amount by several ways. They can determine by what the CEO does monetarily and non monitarily.
Did they lead well? Did they make positive changes to the culture? Did they increase profits? These
are just a few examples. You can determine the contribution of the CEO by the same ways. What are

Modern Art History
When I was five years old, my parents took me to the Louvre. Although I was not familiar with all the
famous European artists and how much the paintings valued, I was mesmerized by the animated
pictures on the wall. Standing before the painting, I felt an unspeakable pleasure permitted only to god
himself. From that moment, I knew I was destined to be an artist, just like them in the Louvre. With
the intense passion I had for arts, I kept digging the deeper level of artistic technique and appreciation.
Unfortunately, as I learnt more about art history and style, I could not resist a sense of boredom. Now
technology was developing at a rapid rate, but, in contrast, traditional arts became more and more pale
and powerless. However, in their time, artists like Da Vinci and Raphael were superstars like Lady
Gaga in our time. Just as Renaissance saved the art field once, I thought the art world needed another
revolution now more than ever. And I could feel the fire burning in my chest and calling my destiny to
lead. Combining modern technology with the artistic skills, Virtual Reality filled every criterion I had
for a new art type. It would draw enough attention because of its novelty and in the same time

How Education Has Changed Over The Years
Todays education has changed in many ways over the years. From the behavior of student s caused by
different parenting skills, how teachers teach their classes as well as student s ability to use
fundamentals, media and technology all play a role in how the world of education has evolved. Robin
Lawrence a thirteen year veteran teacher now a curriculum specialist at Bellaire Elementary has a
good insight into how the educational system has changed over time.
Past and present behavior have differed between the generations. Behavior in the past was much
better. In the past children did not have adult problems placed on them. Past parents had better control
to allow their children to be young. Past generations of parents did not have a lack of parenting skills.
Children were allowed to be carefree, unlike in the present day generations. Today s generations have
adult problems caused by poor or lack of parenting and therefore their behavior reflect this. The poor
behavior of today s generations has affected their education. The poor behavior of one student affects
the whole class. Mrs. Lawrence stated, Student behavior was much better when I attended school than
the behaviors I see in students present day. When asking Mrs. Lawrence why she felt that student s
behavior was better in the past than in the present she stated that Students have so many adult burdens
placed on then it is very difficult for them to be a child. Poor/ lack of parenting has been a major factor

managed by contract with an external company College Food Services (CFS) that had many
organizational challenges that needed to be immediately addressed. An employee Susan realized these
challenges. One of the main many problems was the theft that was going on for a long time. The

large quantities when leaving their shifts. The storage room could be easily accessible as it was

ANALYSIS
The management system at CFS has, till now, been an unprofessional work environment with a most
casual and unconcerned stance towards its employees immoral ways. The employees, mostly fresher s,
are devoid of any previous experience of a workplace, causing them to adopt their own set of rules and
regulations on being introduced into such a careless work scenario. Added to that is the low paying
job, subject to growth by a mere 15% after promotion, along with the pressures of long working hours
and overnight shifts is tempting them towards ulterior means. The unchecked ways of these newbies
has led to a lot of loss to the Devil s Den, both in financial terms as well as in terms of its reputation
before customers who too are taking advantage of the situation.
This informal attitude of employees has led to an unprecedented state of affairs wherein Susan needs
to step in and take a stance between her moral beliefs and gains of a more personal nature. She needs
to analyze the pros and cons of each dilemma that she faces. As the student management is not willing
to take action on this matter, Susan could, abiding by her values, approach the co workers and demand
that this immoral activity be stopped. However, this may turn the group against her and she may,
eventually, be forced from her position.
Alternatively, Susan could wait till she is appointed as a manager in the

Happiness Is The Most Common Misconception Of Happiness
Happiness... It could be said that there is no one in this whole wide world who does not want to be
happy. We live every single day in hope to find happiness, which also known as pursuit of happiness.
We strive to bring happiness in our life. Nonetheless, along the journey to find happiness, some people
stumble and find themselves unhappy instead. One might question why, but actually we all have
different value and understanding to describe happiness. Therefore, we have our own unique approach
to pursue happiness and there is no telling to the exact cause of our wrongs and errors in the process.
What might have been the cause, which most people hardly notice, is their perception of happiness.
There are three most common misconception of happiness that lead to unhappy life.
Some people think that in order to be happy they need to live a perfect life. Well, there is no such
thing as perfect since every one s perfect is different. But perfect life here implies to one s ideal life or
to be accepted by most people and make mistake as little as possible. It might sound like a nonsense
but there are some people out there believe perfect life will make one happy. Of course, to live one s
perfect life is not an easy thing to achieve as it also puts enormous pressure in one s life, although in
some rare cases it could be turned into a motivation. Those pressures to be perfect, which at the same
time also to be happy, become the seeds of unhappiness. My best friend has been living in

Finding Employment For College Graduates
There has been a major problem with finding employment for college graduates. Many students

what school you graduated from, the color of your skin, or what gender you are, it s about simply what
you know or who you know. Another problem is that many of the schools do not help students find job

There have been studies done about graduates having difficulty finding employment because of the

The Unification of Germany Essay
The Unification of Germany
Bismarck
Otto von Bismarck achieved the unification of the disjointed German states through the skillful
understanding of realpolitikand the Machiavellian use of war as a political tool to eliminate Germany s
rival nations, gain the support of the German people and gain territory. This ultimately created a
German legacy of strong militaristic tendencies, scheming national relations, and economic clout
challenging the European heavyweights like England and France. Bismarck s plan for unification

Using the tools of realpolitik, Bismarck negotiated a settlement of uneasy peace with the division,
which would help to provoke the next war in his course towards unification. Bismarck had also
expanded the influence of the German Confederation with this move as well as gained an important
access to the sea. This was the first instance of Prussia asserting itself internationally, and it wouldn t
be the last before unification was complete. To get the support of his king, Bismarck appealed to his
militaristic side, as the king originally was disinclined to start a war, but after appealing to his
militaristic and nationalistic sentiments, Bismarck effectively convinced his king to go to war.
Conducting the war in Schleswig Holstein was a simple task for Prussia, but the aftermath was more
involved. With the two states defeated, Bismarck fought to see them divided between Prussia and
Austria ensuring tensions between the two. The final arrangement was as abrasive as possible, and the
Seven Weeks War, between Prussia and Austria soon followed because of this outcome. Bismarck
entered this war with a unique goal for its conclusion as his main goal was not to instigate a conflict to
defeat an enemy, but to merely assert the sovereignty of the German states. He kept this goal in mind
when conducting the war, and he avoided creating a humiliating defeat

Summary Of In Dubious Battle And The Grapes Of Wrath
John Steinbeck is one of the most popular and important authors in American literature. Witnessing
some of the darkest moments of the human experience, twentieth century writers, like Steinbeck,
found themselves swept up in the wars, politics, and social movements of the century. Considering the
subjects that drew Steinbeck s notice, and the care in which he wrote about different people groups,
one thing seems to be clear: Steinbeck cared about people. With a large majority of his works
concentrating on the state of California, Steinbeck found the land, and its people, worth writing about.
Published three years apart, the two novels In Dubious Battle (1936) and The Grapes of Wrath (1939)
differ greatly, from Steinbeck s treatment of political themes to his treatment of the narrative s focus.
After the success of his novel In Dubious Battle, Steinbeck would go on to be hired to write seven
articles for The San Francisco News, where he experienced the abundance of abuses that would
provoke Steinbeck to take a different direction with his next novel, The Grapes of Wrath. Drawing
notice to the significant deviations between the two novels, In Dubious Battle and The Grapes of
Wrath, through his treatment of subject matter, character development, and concluding assessments,
this period of Steinbeck s life would go on to identify Steinbeck as an authentic voice for the
concealed victims of California s agricultural valleys.
John Steinbeck grew up in Salinas, California. A

  • 2. Josh s Rule In The Crossover By Kwame Alexander In the novel The Crossover by Kwame Alexander, the rule most relatable to Josh is the third basketball rule. The basketball rules are a list that Josh s dad created so that Josh and his brother stay motivated and to keep on following his dreams. I think this is the most useful rule for Josh because he will need it after his father s death. The third basketball rule is Never let anyone lower your goals. Other s expectations of you are determined by their limitations of life. The sky is your limit, sons. Always shoot for the sun and you will shine (Alexander, 66). • 3. Critically assess the Strengths and Weaknesses of the... The man credited with the birth of the classical school was Cesaer Beccaria (1738 1794), who emerged during the enlightenment period of the eighteenth century. Some argue that criminology as an independent discipline only emerged about 60 70 years ago (Garland 2002), and whilst not concerned with studying criminals per se in the same way that we most associate with criminology today, the classical school was hugely influential in the formation of Criminal Justice System as we know it today. Farner (cited in Taylor et al 1973) a nineteenth century commentator on Beccaria asserts : Whatever improvement our penal laws have undergone in the last hundred years is due primarily to Beccaria, and, to an extent that has not always been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The courts were made up of the rich and punishments were ad hoc both as to how severe a punishment may be and also in terms of whether a punishment would in fact take place at all. The degree of any punishment would be largely dependent upon the personal views of the judge, jury s would often include the victim of the alleged offence, and there were no sentences set in law. Defendants were generally of the lower classes and as such not treated equally. Punishment should not be dependent upon social status, and Beccaria argued it is the judges duty to determine the guilt or innocence of the accused based on fact, not on social status, if found guilty, then the judge should impose the penalty prescribed by law (Beccaria cited in Curran et al 1994 11) Beccaria questioned whether the extreme and tortuous punishments (which often included the death penalty) routinely dished out even had any effect in terms of deterring crime. In his most important works Dei delitti e delle pene, or On Crimes and Punishments Beccaria asked: But what are to be the proper punishments for such crimes? Is the death penalty really useful and necessary for the security and good order of society? Are torture and torments just and do they attain the end for which laws are instituted? What is the best way to prevent crimes? Are the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Overview and Background of Lean Manufacturing Overview and Background of Lean Manufacturing History of Lean Manufacturing Toyota Production System Overview The concept of Lean Manufacturing gets is roots from car manufacturing in the early 1930s and 1940s. Stemming from innovative production techniques developed and implemented by Henry Ford, modern day Lean Manufacturing was developed by Taiichi Ohno of Toyota Motor Company after World War II as a result of the diverse market conditions the company faced. At a time when western car manufactures, like Ford and General Motors, where using mass production and economies of scale manufacturing methods, Toyota faced very different business conditions. Toyota s market was very small and diverse, leaving the organization to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just as with Lean Manufacturing, Lean Construction focuses on establishing value, as defined by the customer, it with the goal of constructing a product that delivers on that value. Thus, value must come before planning and design. (Mohammed). Principle 2: Identify and Map Value Stream In Lean Manufacturing the value stream identifies the necessary steps for developing and creating a product that is valuable from the customer s perspective. In other words, the value stream determines how and when decisions are made in the production process. Lean Construction uses a similar technique called value stream mapping, as known as process mapping, to understand how a construction project will be designed, supplied, and built. Hence, this is where the planning and design aspects mentioned in the above section, come into play. Typical Lean Construction value stream maps consist of the following: Problem solving tasks: ranging from concept through detailed design and engineering to production launch. Information management tasks: ranging from order taking through detailed scheduling to delivery. Physical transformation tasks: ranging from raw materials to producing finished products that get delivered into the hands of the customer. As demonstrated above, these mapping techniques highlight how the construction plan, design, logistics, and operation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Importance Of Poetry In Literature Danish Faruqi Sometimes you come to hate things not because of what they are, but because of what meant to you. They haven t done anything particularly done anything to you directly. But them being in your presence doesn t help. I don t hate a lot of things, and in literature, that list is even smaller. Through my experiences in 12th grade, I realized my new found hatred for confessional poetry and its effects. Due to my experiences, I don t appreciate or rather take notice to literature that might be very interesting. For our Highschool, 12th grade was an interesting year, especially since this was the first year that an inter school debate talks would take place. Something that was sponsored by the chancellor and the mayor. Before we even knew about this competition, our class was chosen. When we got to know about this, the class and the teacher didn t share the same enthusiasm, to say the least. We were reluctant to participate in anything that put us in front of cameras or other people. But the teacher was startled and proud that one of her classes was chosen to participate. The Last Mohicans The Last of the Mohicans Essay Everyone knows the famously old Arabic proverb, The enemy of my enemy is my friend and how it demonstrates itself in various points throughout history. The movie The Last Mohicans , which based of the bloody true event of the French and Indian War in 1757, is certainly no exception. The film portrays the interactions, as well as relationships between the two Native American tribes, the French, and the English. In the beginning, there was no separation of which tribe was which. Due to the lack of identification, there was no distinction of tribes until the main Huron, Magua, led the British troop into a Huron ambush while escorting them to the Fort. Despite having a somewhat uncertain alliance, the Natives treated the soldiers with respect, even referring to commanders as their English Fathers . Frontiersmen, or colonists, also were also honored, due to the tight bond they shared with the tribe in everyday life. In comparison to the vengeful enemy, the small tribe acted on keeping the English colonists, as well as the military, safe from the French and their ally. To counteract the quiet ambush style of the Hurons, many survival techniques such as walking along a waterfall to mask the sound of movement were shown to the few English to conceal their position. These procedures kept the few still standing English alive, without the tops of their heads cut off (for the time being). Albeit most interactions were positive, some were going against the unwritten alliance. Seeing many colonists houses decimated and the inhabitants killed, it was understandable for the men to want to get back home and defend the remaining frontier homes. However, the English commanders would not allow them to return home to defend their own land, as previously promised. Seeing them so desperate and witnessing the horrors of what the Hurons could do, the Mohicans decided to help the colonists escape from the Fort, but for a price. Considered to now to be traitors, the English captains took them prisoner in hand bindings, as if they had not saved them from certain death from French soldiers and Huron tribesmen countless of times. Overall, the relationship was mostly beneficial for the English, whereas the Mohicans only really prevented themselves from becoming prisoners of the king ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Home schooling positively affects a child s development by allowing them the chance to discover themselves instead of falling into the conformity that is instilled in schools. In the process, statistically, they receive a better education with higher test scores than students in the public school system. Reasons for home schooling Home school is quickly becoming mainstream in the United states as a popular alternative way of education for a number of personal reasons. The reasons range from parent to parent or guardian to guardian. The number one most used reason parents or guardians home school children is that they believe they can give their children a better education (ABC). The International Criminal Court (ICC), governed by the Rome Statute, is the first interminable, treaty based, international criminal court established to help end exemptions for the perpetrators of the most serious and heinous crimes of concern to the international community. The ICC was mandated in July of 1998 but was bought into force by July of 2002.1 The Rome Statute is a mutual treaty which serves as the ICC s foundational and leading document. States which become party to the Rome Statute, for example by passing it, become member states of the ICC. Currently, there are 122 states which are party to the Rome Statute and as a result are members of the ICC.2 The creation of the International Criminal Court is a global response to the extreme mayhem perpetrated in the last century. Unfortunately, in all too many cases, terrible crimes went unpunished and a alleged culture of impunity protected the perpetrators. National courts often did not investigate the crimes adequately, or at all. The International criminal court was established at the Paris Peace Conference Following the First World War, because some of the most heinous crimes were committed during the conflicts which marked the twentieth century.3 Unfortunately, many of these violations of international law have remained unpunished and the role of the International criminal court was to bring past and future dreadful crimes to trial and to be punished, and ... The Impact Of Ancient Greek Theater And Tragedy Michimasa Kamata HUM 101 007 3/17/16 The Impact of Ancient Greek Theater and Tragedy Ancient Greek culture has influenced our modern culture in many ways from philosophy to medicine to government. We still use many of their concepts, technology, and even alphabet system. Without ancient Greece, our modern world would not have advanced as far. A significant contribution of the ancient Greek culture to the world today is the Greek theater, more specifically the structure of tragedy. Some contributions are the structure of tragedy in modern literature, rise of opera, and the creation of the theater. Greek drama originally started out as a ritual to honor the god of wine, Dionysus, by the cult of Dionysus. In the ritual, drunk men dressed up in goat skin would sing and have dialogue in chorus to welcome the leader, the person acting as Dionysus (Sayre 151). In these revel filled festivals, men dressed as satyrs, companions of Dionysus who are half man and half goat, while the women dressed up as maenads, the immortal followers of Dionysus. As the participants become drunk and filled with ecstasy, they transform into a different identity from before. Later on this behavior became the satyr play, a form of Greek drama. Slowly, women have chipped away at this social construct from protesting for voting rights to joining the armed forces. Although women have made great advances in the search for equal rights, there are still many drawbacks even in the 21st century. Gender wage gap, double standards, and social media still threaten to hinder women in their everyday lives. Women have become more present in occupations traditionally male dominated. However, in 2015, a woman made 83% of what a man made. At this rate, it would take a woman 44 extra days of work to earn the same amount as a man. Why is this? Women continue to be more commonly present in lower paying jobs. This could be a big contributor to the pay gap. Another reason could be gender discrimination. According to a survey in 2013 by the Pew Research Center, women were two more times as likely to say they had been discriminated against at work (Brown and Patten). Another problem for women is lack of respect. Too often are men respected or congratulated for things that women are shamed for. For one example, women are endlessly shamed for having too many sexual partners. However, if a man has sexual relations with many women he is applauded. The definition of investment is the spending by firms on capital good such as new machines etc. Finally the definition of interest rates is the proportion of a loan that is charged as interest to the borrower, normally expressed as an annual percentage. In the UK the interest rates are set by the Monetary Policy Committee and are usually used in order to influence levels of aggregate demand. Furthermore, if the interest rate was low before the cut then it may not appear to have a very big impact because people will have already have been taking advantage of the small cost of borrowing. Obviously if the interest rate was very high discouraging people from borrowing and in turn reducing consumer expenditure and investment by firms, then a rapid cut could see a high rise in the aggregate demand. Moreover, if someone is in the middle of paying back a mortgage on something like a house and interest rates fall they will effectively have more money because they will not be paying more on top of their mortgage on interest. On the other hand, the reasons for increases of consumer expenditure and investment levels as mentioned above are only all valid if ceteris paribus is assumed. In reality, both factors of aggregate demand can be affected by multiple other external factors for example, consumer expenditure can be affected by the marginal prosperity to consume amongst consumers and therefore if this is very low then a cut in interest will see a minimal change in consumption and investment levels. In terms of consumers and firms if a large cut were to occur it would have a far superior effect in comparison to a small cut which could potentially have no impact. Relying on an analogy with seedlings, Freud suggests that adults would not have the particularities of their sexual lives without a root cause, and that origin must have been childhood. For Freud, the child is necessarily a sexual being (403). It is unclear if he acknowledges other elements in the lives of children, as he classifies many typical childhood activities as sexual, e.g. suckling the breast or thumb, playing, and generally expressing themselves and their organs. It is safe to say that the sexual is at least, in his theory, a significant portion of childhood (404). The original source of pleasure, in Freud s experience (with mostly bourgeois Viennese patients), is the mother s breast, thus the first stage of childhood development is the oral stage. The later switch to thumb sucking is only another expression of this same urge to stimulate the erotogenic (pleasure creating) zone of the mouth. Children move onto the anal stage when they enter conflict with their parents (or other adult figure) over control of their excretion. Freud explains that children derive pleasure from excretion, and thus it is important to them and a focus of children s (sexual) lives (407). • 27. Modern Art History When I was five years old, my parents took me to the Louvre. Although I was not familiar with all the famous European artists and how much the paintings valued, I was mesmerized by the animated pictures on the wall. Standing before the painting, I felt an unspeakable pleasure permitted only to god himself. From that moment, I knew I was destined to be an artist, just like them in the Louvre. With the intense passion I had for arts, I kept digging the deeper level of artistic technique and appreciation. Unfortunately, as I learnt more about art history and style, I could not resist a sense of boredom. Now technology was developing at a rapid rate, but, in contrast, traditional arts became more and more pale and powerless. However, in their time, artists like Da Vinci and Raphael were superstars like Lady Gaga in our time. Just as Renaissance saved the art field once, I thought the art world needed another revolution now more than ever. And I could feel the fire burning in my chest and calling my destiny to lead. Combining modern technology with the artistic skills, Virtual Reality filled every criterion I had for a new art type. It would draw enough attention because of its novelty and in the same time maximize the value of art design. From the behavior of student s caused by different parenting skills, how teachers teach their classes as well as student s ability to use fundamentals, media and technology all play a role in how the world of education has evolved. Robin Lawrence a thirteen year veteran teacher now a curriculum specialist at Bellaire Elementary has a good insight into how the educational system has changed over time. Past and present behavior have differed between the generations. Behavior in the past was much better. In the past children did not have adult problems placed on them. Past parents had better control to allow their children to be young. Past generations of parents did not have a lack of parenting skills. Children were allowed to be carefree, unlike in the present day generations. Today s generations have adult problems caused by poor or lack of parenting and therefore their behavior reflect this. The poor behavior of today s generations has affected their education. The poor behavior of one student affects the whole class. Mrs. Lawrence stated, Student behavior was much better when I attended school than the behaviors I see in students present day. When asking Mrs. Lawrence why she felt that student s behavior was better in the past than in the present she stated that Students have so many adult burdens placed on then it is very difficult for them to be a child. ANALYSIS The management system at CFS has, till now, been an unprofessional work environment with a most casual and unconcerned stance towards its employees immoral ways. The employees, mostly fresher s, are devoid of any previous experience of a workplace, causing them to adopt their own set of rules and regulations on being introduced into such a careless work scenario. Added to that is the low paying job, subject to growth by a mere 15% after promotion, along with the pressures of long working hours and overnight shifts is tempting them towards ulterior means. The unchecked ways of these newbies has led to a lot of loss to the Devil s Den, both in financial terms as well as in terms of its reputation before customers who too are taking advantage of the situation. This informal attitude of employees has led to an unprecedented state of affairs wherein Susan needs to step in and take a stance between her moral beliefs and gains of a more personal nature. She needs to analyze the pros and cons of each dilemma that she faces. As the student management is not willing to take action on this matter, Susan could, abiding by her values, approach the co workers and demand that this immoral activity be stopped. The Unification of Germany Essay The Unification of Germany Bismarck Otto von Bismarck achieved the unification of the disjointed German states through the skillful understanding of realpolitikand the Machiavellian use of war as a political tool to eliminate Germany s rival nations, gain the support of the German people and gain territory. This ultimately created a German legacy of strong militaristic tendencies, scheming national relations, and economic clout challenging the European heavyweights like England and France. Using the tools of realpolitik, Bismarck negotiated a settlement of uneasy peace with the division, which would help to provoke the next war in his course towards unification. Bismarck had also expanded the influence of the German Confederation with this move as well as gained an important access to the sea. This was the first instance of Prussia asserting itself internationally, and it wouldn t be the last before unification was complete. To get the support of his king, Bismarck appealed to his militaristic side, as the king originally was disinclined to start a war, but after appealing to his militaristic and nationalistic sentiments, Bismarck effectively convinced his king to go to war. Conducting the war in Schleswig Holstein was a simple task for Prussia, but the aftermath was more involved. With the two states defeated, Bismarck fought to see them divided between Prussia and Austria ensuring tensions between the two. The final arrangement was as abrasive as possible, and the Seven Weeks War, between Prussia and Austria soon followed because of this outcome. Witnessing some of the darkest moments of the human experience, twentieth century writers, like Steinbeck, found themselves swept up in the wars, politics, and social movements of the century. Considering the subjects that drew Steinbeck s notice, and the care in which he wrote about different people groups, one thing seems to be clear: Steinbeck cared about people. With a large majority of his works concentrating on the state of California, Steinbeck found the land, and its people, worth writing about. Published three years apart, the two novels In Dubious Battle (1936) and The Grapes of Wrath (1939) differ greatly, from Steinbeck s treatment of political themes to his treatment of the narrative s focus. After the success of his novel In Dubious Battle, Steinbeck would go on to be hired to write seven articles for The San Francisco News, where he experienced the abundance of abuses that would provoke Steinbeck to take a different direction with his next novel, The Grapes of Wrath. Drawing notice to the significant deviations between the two novels, In Dubious Battle and The Grapes of Wrath, through his treatment of subject matter, character development, and concluding assessments, this period of Steinbeck s life would go on to identify Steinbeck as an authentic voice for the concealed victims of California s agricultural valleys.
