Analysis Of Raphael s The Holy Trinity

Research Paper Raphael
Stanza Della Segnatura: A Challenge to Raphael
Considered to be in the holy trinity of Renaissance painters along with Leonardo and Michelangelo,
Raphael was known to be more versatile than Michelangelo and more prolific than the older
contemporary Leonardo. Only living until the young age of 37, he definitely made his mark during the
Renaissance era with his many drawings, paintings, and pieces of architecture. But the question to
discuss is, what made his commissioned work with Pope Julius II more notable and memorable than
any other pieces he has created? This paper will cover his biography, his drawing style with a brief
overview of his surviving drawings, and one of his most notable commissions, the so called Stanza
Della Segnatura.
Biography
Born in 1483 in Urbino, Raphael, or Raphael Sanzio, was the son of Giovanni Santi, who was a court
painter. Raphael s father gave him first instruction in painting and introduced Raphael to humanistic
philosophy before his death in 1494. As a child, Raphael s brief time with his father helped him gain a
great deal of knowledge about the arts, literature, and social skills to help Raphael move among the
more elite of society and gain art commissions to boost his career as an artist. After his father s death
(1494), Raphael began to run his father s workshop. After some time, he exceeded his father in talent
and began to receive numerous commissions, for

Describe A Circumstance, Obstacle Or Conflict In My Life
Prompt: TEXAS A M UNIVERSITY Describe a circumstance, obstacle or conflict in your life, and
the skills and resources you used to resolve it. Did it change you? If so, how? His Name was Rob
Though I have faced many obstacles, or at least what I consider to be obstacles, there is one specific
instance that comes to mind when I reflect upon this prompt. It was not so much an obstacle as a guy,
and his name was Rob. I know what you are thinking. Here is another teenage girl about to blather on
about her boy problems. If you knew me, you would know right off the bat that this is not the case,
and if you are willing...give me a chance. I will relay to you a personal explanation for the quizzical
statement above. Then, and only then, can you draw your own conclusions. In the summer of my
sophomore year, one of my mom s childhood friends came to visit us. For the sake of anonymity, she
shall henceforth be referred to as Jane Doe. Jane was unhappy with her marriage, and after several
years of unhappiness decided to leave her husband. Her husband, or ex husband shall I say, was
named Rob and is the same man as aforementioned. Nothing was so terrible in their relationship that,
in my opinion, it could not be fixed. However, it never has been nor ever will be my place to judge
them or their actions. Months passed and Jane became a closer member of our family. She finally
(over a period of several months) came to the decision that she would stay with us on the large plot of
land our family shares. We were overjoyed at this news, and above all else we were happy that she
was happy. Then one day a letter arrived for Jane. It was from Rob, her now ex husband. It came so
swiftly and without warning that I do not feel it is unjust to compare it to a falling star, yet unlike a
falling star its arrival was not anticipated with wishes and excitement. The letter, to the best of my
memory, said something along the lines of this, I have cancer. It seems I couldn t live with me either.
Although the card was set up to portray such utterly heart wrenching news comically, I am not
ashamed to admit that just by thinking back to this time, tears pool in my eyes. In a manner of a few
weeks, Jane was packed to head back to Rob.

Estella Miss Havisham Quotes
Estella may be beautiful, but she s as chilly as Frozone, freezing the hearts of everyone around her
including her adopted mom, Miss Havisham. She s proud and refined as an adult, and beautiful and
self possessed as a child , and for some reason Pip falls desperately in love with her, even though she s
really, really rude.
But we can t hate Estella, either. Can you imagine living in Satis House with a mother who wears her
wedding dress everyday and who only cares that you grow up to break boys hearts? Can you imagine
having to deal with relatives who only want your mother s money? Can you imagine sleeping in that
run down house every night, hearing Miss Havisham s low moaning and mouse like shuffling all over
the floor boards?

Essay on Langston Hughes The Weary Blues
Langston Hughes The Weary Blues
Jazz music is often associated with long, lazy melodies and ornate rhythmical patterns. The Blues, a
type of jazz, also follows this similar style. Langston Hughes poem, The Weary Blues, is no exception.
The sound qualities that make up Hughes work are intricate, yet quite apparent. Hughes use of
consonance, assonance, onomatopoeia, and rhyme in The Weary Blues gives the poem a deep feeling
of sorrow while, at the same time, allows the reader to feel as if he or she is actually listening to the
blues sung by the poem s character.
The Blues musical move was prominent during the 1920s and 30s, a time known as the Harlem
Renaissance. Blues music characteristically told the story of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Another place that consonance is apparent is in line 5, ?pale, dull pallor of an old gas light. The sticky
l sounds are difficult to produce off of the tongue quickly; therefore, these words slow the poem down.
This is typical of the blues. The slow sounds of blues music are incorporated in the words of this
poem. It seems as if the words with the l sounds get extra emphasis, as well, because they are so
difficult to pronounce. Added strength through word sounds helps boost the poem s glumness.
Line 10 is another excellent example of consonance in The Weary Blues. The m and p sounds of He
made that poor piano moan with melody give the poem a juxtaposition of warm sounds from the m to
aggressive tones with the sharp p. This is a nice element as it is characteristic of blues music, as well.
Usually there are some elements of comfort and disdain within the blues. The contrast of the m and p
sounds highlights this very well.
There is a great amount of assonance in The Weary Blues. The first example of assonance comes right
away in the poem. Line 1 opens with the long o sound in Droning a drowsy syncopated tune and
continues with Rocking back and forth to a mellow croon in line 2. This long o sound is representative
of the forlorn blues aforementioned. The long o is repeated throughout the poem, for example in line

The Theme Of Fear In Hide And Seek
The poems Hide and Seek , Remember and Do not go gentle into that good night have all displayed
the theme of fear at its best, using various techniques to achieve their desired effect. Hide and Seek
deals with the fear and nervousness an innocent young boy could experience as he first steps out into
the potentially dangerous, unrestful society, using a simple childhood game to highlight the stark
differences between childhood and adulthood. On the other hand, Remember copes with the torment
and anxiety Rossetti encounters of being potentially forgotten by her lover after death, although she
had given in to her view and instead wishes a better life for her partner, born out of a deep and devoted
love for him. Do not go gentle , however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thomas s previous respect for his father s strong and tall figure causes him to push aside acceptance
of death and rage against it, which people are powerless to stop. Even though Thomas is being
impulsive, he knows that Though wise men at their end know dark is right because their words had

death, they forked no lightning , suggesting that in spite of the wisdom some wise men possess, they
lack the ultimate power of nature, evincing how humans are weak and fragile against death. Even so,
Thomas chooses to vent his fury at death, which is similar to William Blake s The Tyger , where his
anger is directed at the people who had incited the industrial revolution. His anger is most evident
when he mocks them utilising a semantic field connoting to everyday tools of a blacksmith. What the
hammer? what the chain, in what furnace was thy brain? conveys his puzzlement at the creation of
such a sinister movement and his distaste at the society s current

British Towns And Cities Overcrowded
British towns and cities were overcrowded. Population began increasing due to more people moving
in. As businesses began to boom and the national markets grew, more people from the countryside
flocked to the towns and the new factories because they wanted jobs. Small towns became large cities
and the city of London grew from a population of 2 million in 1840 to 5 million forty years later. This
resulted in more people in a country (Great Britain) living in cities than in rural areas like never
before. Houses were tiny and densely packed because as new towns and cities began to rapidly
develop, the need for housing escalated. In a rush to build the houses, many were constructed too
quickly in rows and often back to back every scrap of space left by the old way of building has been
filled up and patched over until not a foot of land is left to be further occupied . And if houses being
really close together externally wasn t enough, they were also very crowded internally as a result of
the fast increase in population. Five to Nine people lived in a small one storied, one roomed hut which
was as big as an apartment and families had to share the tight space with other families or even
complete strangers.
British towns and cities were poor. Workers were not paid much at all for almost a whole day of work.
As factories were being built, businesses were in need of workers and with a long line of people
willing to work, employers could set wages as low as they wanted because

Pride And Prejudice By Pride Essay
The Effects of Pride Pride is the feeling of satisfaction when someone achieve something, someone
close to you achieves something, or something somebody owns or has is admired by others. Being
proud of yourself or someone else is not always bad. However, some believe pride is negative and can
change how a person thinks and feels about certain things. It can be taken either way depending on
who, why, and when it is. Many people have written articles and have done research to determine
whether it is negative or positive. In the novel, Pride and Prejudice, pride is seen throughout the story
in people with a lot of money and with good looks. Different things can determine whether pride is
good or bad. Many studies have been done by psychologists to determine whether pride is a sin or just
an adaptive social emotion. A study was done at Northeastern University by two people, David
Desteno and Lisa Williams, who did a research report on their results. The experiment examined the
ability of pride to serve as an adaptive emotion within the context of social interaction (Desteno and
Williams 284). Pride is often viewed as a deadly sin and high moral behavior (Desteno and Williams).
They believe the function of pride is to motivate hedonically costly efforts aimed at acquiring skills
that increase one s status and value to one s status and value to one s social group (Desteno and
Williams). In their study, they took sixty two individuals and separated them into same sex groups

The Purpose Of Fractional Distillation
Discussion
The purpose of this experiment is to identify two compounds from an unknown given liquid by
separating them into three components using fractional distillation. Distillation is the act of heating
and cooling liquids in order to obtain a pure sample. There are two main types of distillation: simple
distillation and fractional distillation. Simple distillation is the most basic form of a distillation. This
method is more helpful when the separation between a liquid and a solid needs to happen or between
two liquids with boiling points that have a difference of about 50°C or higher. Fractional distillation is
similar to simple distillation; however, it is used to separate two liquids with similar boiling points.
Fractional distillation works by first heating up the solution of the two liquids. Once the solution
begins to boil, the unknown compound that has a lower boiling point will evaporate and rise into a
distillation apparatus. The newly formed gas will travel through the apparatus until it is cooled down,
at which point the gas will not be able to maintain the energy needed for this specific phase, and will
begin to condense back into a liquid. The same process will occur with the second liquid, the only
difference being that it needed a higher temperature in order to transform into a gas. The two new
liquids will each have a higher percentage of the unknown compound, thus making them have a higher
purity rate.
The second technique that will be used to identify

The United States Victory in the Battle of the Philippine...
Dubbed the largest battle between aircraft carriers, the World War two, Battle of the Philippine Sea
was also the most lopsided modern naval victory ever. Like shooting fish in a barrel or a sitting duck
the United States forces easily shot Japanese planes out of the sky and sunk their ships. The object of
the battle was control of the Mariana Islands. The Japanese who had initiated the fight with us were
strategically using the islands in the Philippine Sea as a defense for their homeland. The United States
however also had a vested interest in these islands as they would help us project our forces into
reaching distance of Japan. Though the Japanese had the upper hand in the Battle of the Philippines,
the United States was able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other side the leaders of the Japanese Imperial Navy were Fleet commander Vice Admiral
Ozawa and Admiral Toyoda the commander in chief of the Japanese combined fleet.
Before fighting had even ensued our advantage in equipment and resources was evident. As quickly
had the Japanese Commander given his orders we knew what their move was because we had
decrypted all of their codes following Pearl Harbor. We also had a foot up on their location and
advancements because of our strategic placement of submarines. Americans soon learned the fleet s
location, and their submarines converged upon the area in such numbers that Ozawa dared not leave
port for maneuvers. His Aviators, who had been sent to the carriers with minimum basic training,
ceased training all together. This also contributed greatly to the lack of training Japanese soldiers
received.
In order to capture the Marianas islands the first order of business was to eliminate the Japanese land
advantage. Beginning on 23 February 1944, Mitscher s carrier aircraft repeatedly attacked Japanese air
bases in the Marianas [islands] virtually wiping out Japanese [land based] airpower. With this the
United States now held a definite advantage in manpower with 15 American flattops squaring off
against 9 Japanese carriers. Aboard Vice Adm. Marc Mitscher s carriers were 905 airplanes, opposing

The Opinion Of Justice Binderoff
The opinion of Justice BINDEROFF: According to Article I, Section 8(3) of the United States
Constitution, Congress is granted the power to regulate commerce with foreign countries, as well as
among the several states...; this enumerated power is what the Commerce Clause describes. This
Article has been used to justify many instances in which Congress has exercised its power to regulate
commerce, especially among states. In this regard, there has been a myriad of instances in which such
exercise of this congressional power has been challenged. The first instance, was in the case of
Gibbons v Ogden (1984), where two men who had been given exclusive licenses by the state of New
York to carry passengers to Elizabeth Town from New York, filed a suit in court to block another
steamship operator, Gibbons, who had been newly granted a license to carry passengers on that very
route, from competing with them. In this case, the Chief Justice found out that Congress was right
within its powers granted by the Commerce Clause to grant the ferrying license to Mr. Gibbons. The
Chief Justice, Marshal, argued that commerce was more than just the selling and purchase of goods,
but included other parts of the commercial intercourse between states, such as transport. The argument
by the Chief Justice in this context is important in understanding the extent of commerce that falls
under the Commerce Clause as intended by the framers. In order to understand why Congress was
within its powers

Odometer Rollback Fraud Case
Purchase a used car and you hope that it is everything you want it to be. But hope is not a strategy and
unless you thoroughly check the condition of the car, there is a good chance that a hidden problem

Essay Theoretical Organizational Behavior Analysis
Throughout this essay I hope to analyse theoretical organizational behaviour by drawing on my own
experiences from working in groups. The groups I am going to use as part of my examples are all
from formal groups. Huczynski and Buchanan (2007, p. 291) gives a good definition of Formal groups
in a few bullet points, where one of them is task orientation which in my opinion has clearly
characterized the groups I am talking about. The groups are not necessarily consisting of like minded
people, but individuals randomly picked by the lecturer/tutor which in many cases leads to different
disagreements as the groups try to establish itself and the members of the group try to find their role
within the group. Bruce Tuckman came up with a theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tuckmans first stage is the forming stage which is where the group s ground rules are set up and the
members find out about each other s background. To succeed in this first stage the group is dependent
on some leader (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2007, pp. 291) to take the lead. In none of my groups have
we had a formal election of a group leader, but somehow we have all agreed that the person that first
took the initiative should be the leader. Our leader can therefore, at least in my opinion, be looked
upon as a silently elected leader, and therefore perceived as more responsive to the needs of followers
and the interests of the group (Ben Yoav et al. 1983 cited by De Cremer David and van Dijk Eric,
2008, pp. 358). The second and third stages that a group needs to go through is the Storming and
Forming stage where normal the group faces its first problems or as Huczynski and Buchanan writes:
some members might show hostility towards each other (2007, p. 291). On the other hand, it is also in
these stages that people become friends and develop their trust towards each other. In my groups we
must have either skipped these stages or finished them fairly quick as I didn t notice this happening at
all. Connie J. G. Gersick (1988, p.9) commented about the stages that groups go through: ... (The)

The idea, is that by restructuring the company and eliminating those issues that were causing it
financial problems, you can be able to create significant value by purchasing the company for pennies

funds and investors will have in common to include: taking a long term horizon, investing in those
companies / industries that will generate significant value and minimizing the short / long term risks
as much as possible. All private equity funds will take a long term horizon of several years or more.
This is because the objective of a private equity fund is to control the company that they are

the shareholders want to be satisfied that any kind of company or industry that they will be going into

Essay about Gender Bias Critic of Antigone
A Gender Bias Approach to Antigone
Just as one stone removed can break a bridge, one flaw can bring a man to ruins. The flaw of one man
cannot bring down an entire kingdom, but rather one outlook of the king can lead to the demise of the
whole. In Sophocles epic tragedy, Antigone, a strong gender bias is present throughout the tragedy,
and is partially responsible for the downfall of the king.
To Sophocles the king is not always representative of the people, but acts on his own personal desires
and judgments. Sophocles was born in 496 B.C. and from 490 B.C. until 442 B.C. when the first
performance of Antigone at the Dionysian theater; there had been many wars in the Greek and Persian

It was not until 442 B.C. that he wrote Antigone, with an even greater allusion to the role of women.
Before Antigone begins, the two brothers of Antigone are engaged in a battle no only of land, but of
power. Their deep desires to rule Thebes and male dominating ego, only lead to their deaths; a tragedy
that would affect more than just themselves. The battle of glory for men would not be the same for
their sisters, but in 442 B.C. as Sophocles illustrates, the living women would have to deal with the
tragedies of the dead; a task not easy to be burdened with as woman. Their uncle, Creon, dominates
Antigone and her sister Ismene to the extent of mourning their own brother s death. Antigone has
chosen a fate without glory: I ll suffer nothing as great as death without glory, (Antigone line 112).
Only a male in this time could die with honor and glory, and just as her uncle has forced a death
without glory for her brother, although a glorious death is honorable, she has decided it a better life to
die without glory than dishonor her blood and the gods. Ismene does not wish to go against the laws of
her uncle, for women were not born to contend with men, but between the bond of her and Antigone,
she will defy the king(line 75). Ismene is just as horrified about the edict as Antigone is, but asks what
they weak women can do. During this era the women had a specific role, and to defy that role would
be horrific enough, despite

Jamacia Kimcaid s Girl
Girl is a story by Jamacia Kimcaid and it is about a mother who has a series of instructions for her
daughter on how she should live her life. She constantly accuses and ridicules the girl about being a

take care of herself and her house so as not to reveal herself as a slut . Her tone changes towards the
end when she tells the girl to touch the bread at the bakery to see if it is right, to which the daughter
asks what to do if the baker doesn t let her. The mother then says what kind of girl is she that the baker
won t even let her touch bread? The mother is seemingly unreasonable and cruel towards the girl who
seems honest and innocent as she listens to her mother s instructions on how to complete the tasks in
her life. One theme of this story is that of a jealous or vindictive mother that thinks of her child as no
good and commands her to be good she must obey everything she says. Another theme is that there are
many unfair double standards put on young women not only by men but by other women as well. ...

bought today but that the teenagers are not violently upset. The encounter goes better than he expected
but he still beats himself up about how it was his fault and how guilty he feels. The theme to this story
is that of preconceived notions and irrational fears where someone does something not so good and
then worries and frets over it until it becomes a much bigger deal in their head than it really

Main Street In Lake Mills Research Paper
Imagine going on a drive with your family on a beautiful evening. You drive through small towns with
magnificent trees, 100 s of years old, lining the streets. If you drove down that road many of times,
you would know that the trees were amazing. Wouldn t it be a shame to drive down that street again,
and those beautiful trees were gone, and a sidewalk there instead? The trees lining Main Street in Lake
Mills shouldn t be cut down because the road detours will be an inconvenience to citizens and
businesses, the trees give a natural setting in the downtown area, and the estimated 4.8 million dollars
being spent on this project could be used for other funding in the city. One reason the trees lining

Also, according to the same article, at some points when concrete is being poured, citizens who are
living on Main Street may not be able to access their homes. This will cause an inconvenience, as
most people work during the day, and when they come home from work, they may not be able to
access their homes. Next, also according to the article South Main Street Reconstruction Still in
Planning Stages By Matt Gardner (www.hngnews.com), the planned detour as of right now is from
Interstate 94 to Highway 26, to Highway 18. Another option would be to go from Main Street to
Madison Street, then heading out Lake Street and to Highway Q. People who lives on Highway Q,
Family s are concerned this road will become overly crowded, which will lead to traffic jams and
accidents. In addition, there will be no way around Pinnacle Drive and Topel Street. I spoke with Tara
Topel, one of the owners of Topel s Towing and Repair, and asked her some questions. First, I asked,
Do you think that your business will be affected by the Main Street construction project? Topel replied
by saying, Yes, it most definitely. `We are actually planning on relocating temporarily during the
construction. Next, I asked Are you worried , Ms. Topel replied,

Essay Use of Theme in Everyday Use
The theme of Everyday Use is not immediately apparent, although Alice Walker begins the story by
creating a familiar setting in the comfort of home that lead to the spirit of heritage and its importance
in our lives. The protagonist, a single mother of two daughters, sees herself as . ..large...rough... slow
witted and not fitting into the social strata of her oldest daughter, Dee, who . ..has held life always in
the palm of her hand. The story begins with the mother preparing the yard to be . ..more comfortable
than most people know....like an extended living room for Dee s homecoming. This line early in the
story also shows the mother placing a high value on comfort.
The mother describes her younger daughter, Maggie, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although her name and the food are not good enough for them, Dee immediately sets her site on the
butter churn and dasher, which were hand carved by the husband of Aunt Dee (the oppressor) from a
well loved tree in their front yard. Indicating years of everyday use and hard work, hand prints on the
butter churn and rump seat outlines on the table benches are noted. She wraps the dasher and churn to
take with her, although the churn still has clabber in the bottom, . ..to make something artistic out of it.
Although she rejects the familiarity and history of her family, she is eager to cash in by taking
heirlooms from her family to serve as art in her lofty life somewhere faraway.
Culturally, the symbolism of a quilt is understood to be an heirloom piece that is closely guarded and
highly prized. The ownership of the quilt and the generational lines it passes down is known before
the piecing is begun. Stitching the pieces together is done by groups of women. The tiny bits of cloth
each carry a memory, one from grandpa s shirt, one square from an aunt s Christmas dress, a piece
from the flannel nightgown a mother wore as she pulled her sick child close to her bosom. The pieces
are carefully and artistically pieced together into a collage of

Enduring Love Wickham In Pride And Prejudice

Jane returned home after all this had happened. Upon returning home they find out that their younger
sister was trying to leave with Colonel Forster and his wife. Elizabeth warned her father that this

Wickham. Once Darcy learned of this news from Elizabeth, he felt somewhat responsible because he
didn t tell anyone about Wickham evil behavior. The Gardiner took Elizabeth back to Longbourn to be
with her family. Mrs. Bennet was being crazy as usual and then they learned that Wickham had
gambling debts. None of this news was good. Mr. Bennett and Mr. Gardiner were looking for Lydia
and Wickham, but after no luck Mr. Bennet returned home. Mr. Gardiner continued to look and found
them. Wickham said he would marry Lydia but there is a price. He wants her father to give her equal
shares of his wealth. Mr. Bennet was still confused about who paid Wickham debts. He thought that
maybe Mr. Gardiner did it. Even though Lydia married a crook, her mother was still excited that one
of her daughter was married. Mrs. Bennet was only focused on getting her daughter married and not
their well being. Lydia and Wickham came back to visit and Lydia told Elizabeth that Darcy was at her
wedding to Wickham. At issue are assumptions about the selfishness and instability of men s love.

What Was Washington s Foreign Affairs
When Washington took over office the United States was a fairly small country compared to today
there was only 11 states and around 4 million people. With no precedent for how presidents should
conduct themselves, knowing that he would set the example on how future presidents would act
Washington began to set many good examples such as respect, fairness, and integrity. Washington
supported certain nations but otherwise decided to remain neutral and stayed out of foreign affairs.
Domestically, Washington signed to start the first national bank for America, he also nominated the
first supreme court justice which was John Jay. One big thing about Washington though is that he didn

The True Power Of Music
Music is an important factor to the life of every human. It invokes the the strongest of emotions and
can trigger long forgotten memories, even after years of suppression. Humans tend to take the
mysterious power of music for granted, however after this paper I hope to reveal the true power of
music and how it could be the greatest things to have ever happen. All throughout history, music
follows and evolves with mankind to become a natural occurrence where without music, the world
would feel empty, why might that be? Ben Mauk, a contributor to Life s Little Mysteries, believes, As
stimulation for food and sex are important for an organism s survival, the fact that similar neural
activity is observed in responses to features in music suggests that there could be some evolutionary
advantage to the ability to hear or hum a good tune (Mauk). While Mauk s belief of music s existence
is because of instinctive stimulation, I believe music is popular because of the multitude patterns that
the human brain can follow. The human brain attempts to find patterns in everything it performs, for
example a worker performing their daily tasks but when they break that system they may be unsure
what to do with their extra time. Even though we might disagree in the invention of music but we
could both agree on that music brings people together. On the other hand, Tom de Castella, a writer for
BBC News Magazine, would argue, It can be lonely travelling through public space and using

1980 s Economic Analysis
From the 1970s forward, countries that belonged to the socialist block were in deepening economic
difficulties. There was growing conviction among the public that the old political systems could not
solve the growing economic problems. In this chapter I will focus on four countries: Hungary,
Czechoslovakia, Russia, and China. By the late 1980s the public in these countries believed that
communist economic arrangements had failed and needed to be replaced rather than repaired. In
response, these economies have rejected all or, in the case of China, some of central planning. In
centrally planned economies (CPEs) prices do not represent actual costs, incentive systems are absent,
losses of unprofitable state owned enterprises are automatically ... Show more content on

Liberalization means eliminating price controls and relaxing trade protection. It also means freeing
entry into production, services and trade. Liberalized markets process information better than central
planned economies and they allocate resources more efficiently. Stabilization means reducing inflation
and containing domestic and external imbalances. Stabilization is necessary for market economies to
grow. Hungary began liberalizing gradually in the 1960s. The reform process in Hungary was beset by
many setbacks, but it persisted over twenty years. Although Hungary in the 1980s was not a market
based economy, the country was better prepared than the other countries for the political liberalization
of 1989 1990. Before 1989 there was an efficient system of resource allocation and product
distribution, avoiding both severe shortages and repressed inflation. There was a small scale private
ownership sector, a two tier banking system, a tax reform, and a corporate law. In January 1991
Hungary adopted a gradualist program, involving a small devaluation of 15%, a further liberalization
of prices (up to 90% of the consumer prices by the end of 1991), and restrictive fiscal, monetary, and
incomes policies. This program was more ambitious and it also included a further liberalization of

Walter Mitty Ambivalence
Around half of man s thoughts are daydreams, according to a 2009 neurological study. This supports
the thought that daydreaming is a gateway that allows the mind to wonder, not just wander. Therefore,
people like Walter Mitty who constantly seem to be daydreaming aren t that uncommon or abnormal.
Walter Mitty shouldn t be looked down upon or pitied, but instead should be praised for his constant
awareness of his own mind s thoughts, as this continuously happens to everyone. However, Walter
Mitty s wife seems to have little care and respect for her husband s constant delusions, even though
this is perfectly normal. In fact, it is highly likely that she is also wrapped in her own delusions just as
often as him. A study in 2010 by Harvard found that people s minds tend to wander for around 46.9
percent of the time, but no less than about 30 percent during almost every activity. This in itself shows
that it is not unlikely that they are both slipping out of reality about as often as the other and yet she
still chooses to think he is ill or losing his mind. She even states her intention to check his temperature
to verify that he isn t coming down with something when they return home. ... Show more content on

Throughout the story, Mrs. Mitty constantly nags toward her husband about many situations from his
driving, to his dress attire, and even to his shopping. This constant verbal abuse can cause unneeded

to regain his control and his sanity by slowly slipping into his ideal situation for the active moment.
This effect has been studied and proven by multiple studies done throughout recent

The Election Swept Away Years Of Liberal Government
The 1997 general election swept away eighteen years of Conservative government, replacing it with a

After the polls had closed at ten o clock, but before the result was formally announced, Portillo was
interviewed live by Jeremy Paxman on the BBC s election programme. By that stage, Portillo was
aware of the result in his seat. Portillo was seen to struggle answering Paxman s first question, So

The other candidates knew the result as they walked up onto the stage of the Picketts Lock Leisure

from some Conservative supporters who assumed that Portillo had won. After a minor party candidate

Portillo, to his credit gave a magnanimous concession speech. Portillo later stated that he was
determined to lose with as much dignity as possible, after having watched the scenes in Putney where
David Mellor had attacked Referendum Party founder and leader Sir James Goldsmith.
The episode led to the phrase Portillo Moment, entering into the political lexicon. Many viewers and

The Theory And Theory Of Psychology
Overview The practice of psychotherapy involves several approaches and different psychologists
often use different psychological theories to achieve their goals in treatment and interventions.
However, the combination of these psychological theories is important for the improvement of
psychoanalysis of patients and the treatment approaches used. This paper will, therefore, analyze three
psychological theories which include; attachment theory, control mastery theory and the object
relations theory. Additionally, the analysis will involve the combination of these three theories to
produce and integrated approach suitable for psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. The development of
the paper will involve stating the individual theories and their theorists, an explanation of each theory
and a combination of the three theories to improve the practice of psychology.
Attachment theory
Attachment involves the enduring emotions and deep bonds that an individual expresses to another
person based on time and space. The attachment theory in psychology was developed by a British
psychologist known as John Bowlby through his attempts to bring an understanding of the distress that
children face due to separation from their parents. The theory was developed by John Bowlby in 1958
following the professional time he had in the treatment of emotionally disturbed children in the Child
Guidance Clinic in London. The theory posits that the observed characteristics in children such as

Alison Bechdel Fun Home Analysis
Alison Bechdel uses her graphic memoir, Fun home, to explore her relationship with her father. She
uses the book as a tool to reflect on her life and the affect her father had on her. She discovers how her
fathers closeted sexuality affected her childhood and her transition into adulthood. His death left a
powerful mark and left her searching for answers. She clearly states this when she says, it s true that
he didn t kill himself until I was nearly twenty. But his absence resonated retroactively, echoing back
through all the time I knew him. (23). This feeling drove her to look back on their relationship and
find what binds her so strongly to a man she never understood. She discovered how her fathers
closeted sexuality affected her childhood, her sexuality, and her relationship with literature.
Bechdel opens the book with a scene of her playing with her father. She uses this memory of them
playing airplane (3) to describe the normal part of their relationship. This is contrasted by the frequent
outbursts she describes throughout her childhood. In chapter 1 she uses the film It s a Wonderful Life
as an analogy. She draws a parallel between George s rare outburst on his children to the frequent
outburst her father displayed as she grew up (11). This scene gives clear insight on how the
relationship with her father fluctuates between calm and strenuous. the inconsistences in their
relationship leads her question what connects her to her father. This dilemma is best

  • 2. Analysis Of Raphael s The Holy Trinity Keadra Jeter ART 4396 Dr. M. Vaccaro Research Paper Raphael Stanza Della Segnatura: A Challenge to Raphael Considered to be in the holy trinity of Renaissance painters along with Leonardo and Michelangelo, Raphael was known to be more versatile than Michelangelo and more prolific than the older contemporary Leonardo. Only living until the young age of 37, he definitely made his mark during the Renaissance era with his many drawings, paintings, and pieces of architecture. But the question to discuss is, what made his commissioned work with Pope Julius II more notable and memorable than any other pieces he has created? This paper will cover his biography, his drawing style with a brief overview of his surviving drawings, and one of his most notable commissions, the so called Stanza Della Segnatura. Biography Born in 1483 in Urbino, Raphael, or Raphael Sanzio, was the son of Giovanni Santi, who was a court painter. Raphael s father gave him first instruction in painting and introduced Raphael to humanistic philosophy before his death in 1494. As a child, Raphael s brief time with his father helped him gain a great deal of knowledge about the arts, literature, and social skills to help Raphael move among the more elite of society and gain art commissions to boost his career as an artist. After his father s death (1494), Raphael began to run his father s workshop. After some time, he exceeded his father in talent and began to receive numerous commissions, for ... • 3. Describe A Circumstance, Obstacle Or Conflict In My Life Prompt: TEXAS A M UNIVERSITY Describe a circumstance, obstacle or conflict in your life, and the skills and resources you used to resolve it. Did it change you? If so, how? His Name was Rob Though I have faced many obstacles, or at least what I consider to be obstacles, there is one specific instance that comes to mind when I reflect upon this prompt. It was not so much an obstacle as a guy, and his name was Rob. I know what you are thinking. Here is another teenage girl about to blather on about her boy problems. If you knew me, you would know right off the bat that this is not the case, and if you are willing...give me a chance. I will relay to you a personal explanation for the quizzical statement above. Then, and only then, can you draw your own conclusions. In the summer of my sophomore year, one of my mom s childhood friends came to visit us. For the sake of anonymity, she shall henceforth be referred to as Jane Doe. Jane was unhappy with her marriage, and after several years of unhappiness decided to leave her husband. Her husband, or ex husband shall I say, was named Rob and is the same man as aforementioned. Nothing was so terrible in their relationship that, in my opinion, it could not be fixed. However, it never has been nor ever will be my place to judge them or their actions. Months passed and Jane became a closer member of our family. She finally (over a period of several months) came to the decision that she would stay with us on the large plot of land our family shares. We were overjoyed at this news, and above all else we were happy that she was happy. Then one day a letter arrived for Jane. It was from Rob, her now ex husband. It came so swiftly and without warning that I do not feel it is unjust to compare it to a falling star, yet unlike a falling star its arrival was not anticipated with wishes and excitement. The letter, to the best of my memory, said something along the lines of this, I have cancer. It seems I couldn t live with me either. Although the card was set up to portray such utterly heart wrenching news comically, I am not ashamed to admit that just by thinking back to this time, tears pool in my eyes. In a manner of a few weeks, Jane was packed to head back to Rob. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She s proud and refined as an adult, and beautiful and self possessed as a child , and for some reason Pip falls desperately in love with her, even though she s really, really rude. But we can t hate Estella, either. Can you imagine living in Satis House with a mother who wears her wedding dress everyday and who only cares that you grow up to break boys hearts? Can you imagine having to deal with relatives who only want your mother s money? Can you imagine sleeping in that run down house every night, hearing Miss Havisham s low moaning and mouse like shuffling all over the floor boards? She knows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay on Langston Hughes The Weary Blues Langston Hughes The Weary Blues Jazz music is often associated with long, lazy melodies and ornate rhythmical patterns. The Blues, a type of jazz, also follows this similar style. Langston Hughes poem, The Weary Blues, is no exception. The sound qualities that make up Hughes work are intricate, yet quite apparent. Hughes use of consonance, assonance, onomatopoeia, and rhyme in The Weary Blues gives the poem a deep feeling of sorrow while, at the same time, allows the reader to feel as if he or she is actually listening to the blues sung by the poem s character. The Blues musical move was prominent during the 1920s and 30s, a time known as the Harlem Renaissance. Blues music characteristically told the story of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another place that consonance is apparent is in line 5, ?pale, dull pallor of an old gas light. The sticky l sounds are difficult to produce off of the tongue quickly; therefore, these words slow the poem down. This is typical of the blues. The slow sounds of blues music are incorporated in the words of this poem. It seems as if the words with the l sounds get extra emphasis, as well, because they are so difficult to pronounce. Added strength through word sounds helps boost the poem s glumness. Line 10 is another excellent example of consonance in The Weary Blues. The m and p sounds of He made that poor piano moan with melody give the poem a juxtaposition of warm sounds from the m to aggressive tones with the sharp p. This is a nice element as it is characteristic of blues music, as well. Usually there are some elements of comfort and disdain within the blues. The contrast of the m and p sounds highlights this very well. There is a great amount of assonance in The Weary Blues. The first example of assonance comes right away in the poem. Line 1 opens with the long o sound in Droning a drowsy syncopated tune and continues with Rocking back and forth to a mellow croon in line 2. This long o sound is representative of the forlorn blues aforementioned. The long o is repeated throughout the poem, for example in line 10 with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Theme Of Fear In Hide And Seek The poems Hide and Seek , Remember and Do not go gentle into that good night have all displayed the theme of fear at its best, using various techniques to achieve their desired effect. Hide and Seek deals with the fear and nervousness an innocent young boy could experience as he first steps out into the potentially dangerous, unrestful society, using a simple childhood game to highlight the stark differences between childhood and adulthood. On the other hand, Remember copes with the torment and anxiety Rossetti encounters of being potentially forgotten by her lover after death, although she had given in to her view and instead wishes a better life for her partner, born out of a deep and devoted love for him. Thomas s previous respect for his father s strong and tall figure causes him to push aside acceptance of death and rage against it, which people are powerless to stop. Thomas realises that although intelligent people know what to look for after death, they forked no lightning , suggesting that in spite of the wisdom some wise men possess, they lack the ultimate power of nature, evincing how humans are weak and fragile against death. Even so, Thomas chooses to vent his fury at death, which is similar to William Blake s The Tyger , where his anger is directed at the people who had incited the industrial revolution. His anger is most evident when he mocks them utilising a semantic field connoting to everyday tools of a blacksmith. • 7. British Towns And Cities Overcrowded British towns and cities were overcrowded. Population began increasing due to more people moving in. As businesses began to boom and the national markets grew, more people from the countryside flocked to the towns and the new factories because they wanted jobs. Small towns became large cities and the city of London grew from a population of 2 million in 1840 to 5 million forty years later. This resulted in more people in a country (Great Britain) living in cities than in rural areas like never before. Houses were tiny and densely packed because as new towns and cities began to rapidly develop, the need for housing escalated. In a rush to build the houses, many were constructed too quickly in rows and often back to back every scrap of space left by the old way of building has been filled up and patched over until not a foot of land is left to be further occupied . And if houses being really close together externally wasn t enough, they were also very crowded internally as a result of the fast increase in population. Five to Nine people lived in a small one storied, one roomed hut which was as big as an apartment and families had to share the tight space with other families or even complete strangers. British towns and cities were poor. Workers were not paid much at all for almost a whole day of work. As factories were being built, businesses were in need of workers and with a long line of people willing to work, employers could set wages as low as they wanted because ... • 9. Pride And Prejudice By Pride Essay The Effects of Pride Pride is the feeling of satisfaction when someone achieve something, someone close to you achieves something, or something somebody owns or has is admired by others. Being proud of yourself or someone else is not always bad. However, some believe pride is negative and can change how a person thinks and feels about certain things. It can be taken either way depending on who, why, and when it is. Many people have written articles and have done research to determine whether it is negative or positive. In the novel, Pride and Prejudice, pride is seen throughout the story in people with a lot of money and with good looks. Different things can determine whether pride is good or bad. Many studies have been done by psychologists to determine whether pride is a sin or just an adaptive social emotion. A study was done at Northeastern University by two people, David Desteno and Lisa Williams, who did a research report on their results. The experiment examined the ability of pride to serve as an adaptive emotion within the context of social interaction (Desteno and Williams 284). Pride is often viewed as a deadly sin and high moral behavior (Desteno and Williams). They believe the function of pride is to motivate hedonically costly efforts aimed at acquiring skills that increase one s status and value to one s status and value to one s social group (Desteno and Williams). • 10. The Purpose Of Fractional Distillation Discussion The purpose of this experiment is to identify two compounds from an unknown given liquid by separating them into three components using fractional distillation. Distillation is the act of heating and cooling liquids in order to obtain a pure sample. There are two main types of distillation: simple distillation and fractional distillation. Simple distillation is the most basic form of a distillation. This method is more helpful when the separation between a liquid and a solid needs to happen or between two liquids with boiling points that have a difference of about 50°C or higher. Fractional distillation is similar to simple distillation; however, it is used to separate two liquids with similar boiling points. Fractional distillation works by first heating up the solution of the two liquids. Once the solution begins to boil, the unknown compound that has a lower boiling point will evaporate and rise into a distillation apparatus. The newly formed gas will travel through the apparatus until it is cooled down, at which point the gas will not be able to maintain the energy needed for this specific phase, and will begin to condense back into a liquid. The same process will occur with the second liquid, the only difference being that it needed a higher temperature in order to transform into a gas. The two new liquids will each have a higher percentage of the unknown compound, thus making them have a higher purity rate. The second technique that will be used to identify ... • 11. The United States Victory in the Battle of the Philippine... Dubbed the largest battle between aircraft carriers, the World War two, Battle of the Philippine Sea was also the most lopsided modern naval victory ever. Like shooting fish in a barrel or a sitting duck the United States forces easily shot Japanese planes out of the sky and sunk their ships. The object of the battle was control of the Mariana Islands. The Japanese who had initiated the fight with us were strategically using the islands in the Philippine Sea as a defense for their homeland. The United States however also had a vested interest in these islands as they would help us project our forces into reaching distance of Japan. On the other side the leaders of the Japanese Imperial Navy were Fleet commander Vice Admiral Ozawa and Admiral Toyoda the commander in chief of the Japanese combined fleet. Before fighting had even ensued our advantage in equipment and resources was evident. As quickly had the Japanese Commander given his orders we knew what their move was because we had decrypted all of their codes following Pearl Harbor. We also had a foot up on their location and advancements because of our strategic placement of submarines. Americans soon learned the fleet s location, and their submarines converged upon the area in such numbers that Ozawa dared not leave port for maneuvers. His Aviators, who had been sent to the carriers with minimum basic training, ceased training all together. This also contributed greatly to the lack of training Japanese soldiers received. In order to capture the Marianas islands the first order of business was to eliminate the Japanese land advantage. Beginning on 23 February 1944, Mitscher s carrier aircraft repeatedly attacked Japanese air bases in the Marianas [islands] virtually wiping out Japanese [land based] airpower. With this the United States now held a definite advantage in manpower with 15 American flattops squaring off against 9 Japanese carriers. Aboard Vice Adm. • 12. The Opinion Of Justice Binderoff The opinion of Justice BINDEROFF: According to Article I, Section 8(3) of the United States Constitution, Congress is granted the power to regulate commerce with foreign countries, as well as among the several states...; this enumerated power is what the Commerce Clause describes. This Article has been used to justify many instances in which Congress has exercised its power to regulate commerce, especially among states. In this regard, there has been a myriad of instances in which such exercise of this congressional power has been challenged. The first instance, was in the case of Gibbons v Ogden (1984), where two men who had been given exclusive licenses by the state of New York to carry passengers to Elizabeth Town from New York, filed a suit in court to block another steamship operator, Gibbons, who had been newly granted a license to carry passengers on that very route, from competing with them. In this case, the Chief Justice found out that Congress was right within its powers granted by the Commerce Clause to grant the ferrying license to Mr. Gibbons. The Chief Justice, Marshal, argued that commerce was more than just the selling and purchase of goods, but included other parts of the commercial intercourse between states, such as transport. The argument by the Chief Justice in this context is important in understanding the extent of commerce that falls under the Commerce Clause as intended by the framers. But hope is not a strategy and unless you thoroughly check the condition of the car, there is a good chance that a hidden problem may escape you. CARFAX research indicates that nearly 200,000 cars have their odometers rolled back each year and currently there are more than 1 million vehicles on the road with rolled back odometers. Odometer Rollback Fraud Rolling back an odometer is not just wrong, it is fraud. Role Of Cosine In The Simpsons In this project I was able to utilize my knowledge about functions in order to create an image that represent the cosine and sine graphs as well as other trigonometric graphs. Moreover, this project was really amusing because I had the opportunity to draw an image that represent the given graphs. The reason I choose to do this image was first based on the cartoonish character Bart of the famous animated comedy The Simpsons. After analyzing the character, I change many of its features such as the mouth, nose, eyebrows, and other elements. Furthermore, I changed the eyebrows and nose and convert them into cosine curves. • 15. Essay Theoretical Organizational Behavior Analysis Throughout this essay I hope to analyse theoretical organizational behaviour by drawing on my own experiences from working in groups. The groups I am going to use as part of my examples are all from formal groups. Huczynski and Buchanan (2007, p. 291) gives a good definition of Formal groups in a few bullet points, where one of them is task orientation which in my opinion has clearly characterized the groups I am talking about. The groups are not necessarily consisting of like minded people, but individuals randomly picked by the lecturer/tutor which in many cases leads to different disagreements as the groups try to establish itself and the members of the group try to find their role within the group. Bruce Tuckman came up with a theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tuckmans first stage is the forming stage which is where the group s ground rules are set up and the members find out about each other s background. To succeed in this first stage the group is dependent on some leader (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2007, pp. 291) to take the lead. In none of my groups have we had a formal election of a group leader, but somehow we have all agreed that the person that first took the initiative should be the leader. Our leader can therefore, at least in my opinion, be looked upon as a silently elected leader, and therefore perceived as more responsive to the needs of followers and the interests of the group (Ben Yoav et al. 1983 cited by De Cremer David and van Dijk Eric, 2008, pp. 358). The second and third stages that a group needs to go through is the Storming and Forming stage where normal the group faces its first problems or as Huczynski and Buchanan writes: some members might show hostility towards each other (2007, p. 291). On the other hand, it is also in these stages that people become friends and develop their trust towards each other. In my groups we must have either skipped these stages or finished them fairly quick as I didn t notice this happening at all. Connie J. G. Over the last several years, the total number of investment options that investors have available to them, have increased dramatically. All private equity funds will take a long term horizon of several years or more. This is because the objective of a private equity fund is to control the company that they are purchasing. • 19. Essay about Gender Bias Critic of Antigone A Gender Bias Approach to Antigone Just as one stone removed can break a bridge, one flaw can bring a man to ruins. The flaw of one man cannot bring down an entire kingdom, but rather one outlook of the king can lead to the demise of the whole. In Sophocles epic tragedy, Antigone, a strong gender bias is present throughout the tragedy, and is partially responsible for the downfall of the king. To Sophocles the king is not always representative of the people, but acts on his own personal desires and judgments. Sophocles was born in 496 B.C. and from 490 B.C. until 442 B.C. when the first performance of Antigone at the Dionysian theater; there had been many wars in the Greek and Persian history. Before Antigone begins, the two brothers of Antigone are engaged in a battle no only of land, but of power. Their deep desires to rule Thebes and male dominating ego, only lead to their deaths; a tragedy that would affect more than just themselves. The battle of glory for men would not be the same for their sisters, but in 442 B.C. as Sophocles illustrates, the living women would have to deal with the tragedies of the dead; a task not easy to be burdened with as woman. Their uncle, Creon, dominates Antigone and her sister Ismene to the extent of mourning their own brother s death. Antigone has chosen a fate without glory: I ll suffer nothing as great as death without glory, (Antigone line 112). Only a male in this time could die with honor and glory, and just as her uncle has forced a death without glory for her brother, although a glorious death is honorable, she has decided it a better life to die without glory than dishonor her blood and the gods. Ismene does not wish to go against the laws of her uncle, for women were not born to contend with men, but between the bond of her and Antigone, she will defy the king(line 75). Ismene is just as horrified about the edict as Antigone is, but asks what they weak women can do. She constantly accuses and ridicules the girl about being a slut and singing calypso songs in church. She tells the girl how she must plant foods, how she must take care of herself and her house so as not to reveal herself as a slut . The mother then says what kind of girl is she that the baker won t even let her touch bread? The mother is seemingly unreasonable and cruel towards the girl who seems honest and innocent as she listens to her mother s instructions on how to complete the tasks in her life. • 29. The True Power Of Music Music is an important factor to the life of every human. It invokes the the strongest of emotions and can trigger long forgotten memories, even after years of suppression. Humans tend to take the mysterious power of music for granted, however after this paper I hope to reveal the true power of music and how it could be the greatest things to have ever happen. All throughout history, music follows and evolves with mankind to become a natural occurrence where without music, the world would feel empty, why might that be? Ben Mauk, a contributor to Life s Little Mysteries, believes, As stimulation for food and sex are important for an organism s survival, the fact that similar neural activity is observed in responses to features in music suggests that there could be some evolutionary advantage to the ability to hear or hum a good tune (Mauk). While Mauk s belief of music s existence is because of instinctive stimulation, I believe music is popular because of the multitude patterns that the human brain can follow. The human brain attempts to find patterns in everything it performs, for example a worker performing their daily tasks but when they break that system they may be unsure what to do with their extra time. Even though we might disagree in the invention of music but we could both agree on that music brings people together.
