Abstract
Hofstede s model (1980) has been used widely in research in the past two decades. The culture
based model consists of four dimensions: power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism
collectivism, and masculinity femininity. Each of these dimensions was identified through the use
of group level data collected from IBM branches in 40 different countries. Despite the contributions
of the model to cultural research, it has faced many criticisms over the years. Some in principle ...

Power distance, which is typically measured at a national or collective level, must also be
an
measured at an individual level. The reasoning behind this clarification is that a country
na
as a whole may exhibit high power distance, but the distribution of individuals within the country
typically follows a normal curve. Primarily, some people will be extremely high or low on power
distance, but the majority center around the intermediate levels of power distance. Despite the
difference between national and individual levels of power distance, the individual does influence
the national level. In a study done by Maznevski,
DiStefano, Gomez, Noorderhaven, and Wu (2002), it was found that when cultural data was first
gathered at the individual level then aggregated to the national level, there was a
Hofstede 5 difference in means between countries. This indicates that, the average individual
level of power distance will be higher in a country that is ranked high on power distance. So
what exactly influences the individual level of power distance? Such aspects as age, where you
grew up, and if you moved away from the country help to determine each individual s level of
power distance (Triandis, 2004; Yamada Singelis, 1999). The idea of individual and national levels
of analysis presented for power distance also holds true for the remaining three cultural dimensions.
M
The second dimension is uncertainty avoidance.

Paper On Healthy People 2020
According to Healthy People 2020, The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans (PAG)
released in 2008, was the first ever publication of national guidelines for physical activity. The
physical activity topics and objectives for Healthy People 2020 reflect the strong state of the
science supporting the healthbenefits of regular physical activity among youth and adults, as
identified in the PAG , (United States Department of Health and Human Services [HHS], Healthy
People 2020, 2016).
Expending on the PAG, Healthy People 2020 estimated, on a national level, over 80 percent of
adults and youth are not actively participating in daily physical activity, potentially increasing the
risk of developing chronic health related diseases such as; heart disease, diabetes, obesity, or
exacerbating current health issues (HHS, Healthy People 2020, 2016).
Healthy People implemented an extensive list of physical activity objectives targeting youth of
all ages. The objectives are all aimed at promoting the health benefits of maintaining a physically
active life style. The following objective targets a major area of concern for the medical
community and the increase of inactivity among today s youth; PA 8.2.2; Increase the proportion

VAX Computer Work Together with VAXclusters
VAXclusters is made to be used by using many VAX computers so that all these systems could
work together and operate as one unit. Professionals are making new programs so that updated
working could be obtained through VAXclusters. Users of VAXclusters are able to have speed
for almost 70MB per second which is able to handle nearly 3000 messages in one second. It means
that users of VAXclusters are able to have high sending and receiving of messages in this system.
Multiprocessors are tightly coupled in VAXclusters and distributed systems are loosely coupled so
that users could get instant results. Professionals are installing and updating programs in
VAXclusters so that desired results can be obtained by users. Professionals had a goal in mind to
make a system with VAXcomputers which will be available for users in order to process their

Atheism, Nihilism, And Nihilism
I believe atheism, and nihilism do have certain things in common, but Atheism does not necessarily
entail nihilism. There is more than one type of nihilism found in society, and even though Nihilism
may entail Atheism. but they are both different. Looking closer at the definition of Nihilism and
Atheism I found the main difference in definition between the two which will later be explained in
detail. There are many types of beliefs that could could be consider Nihilism, but only two that
express the true meaning to the word; Moral Nihilism and Metaphysical Nihilism, these believes
could get confused to being Atheism, that s why knowing the true meaning of Moral Nihilism,
Metaphysical Nihilism and Atheism will give us a better representation of what they are and how
they where they differ from each other. To begin to understand the difference between Atheism and
Nihilism I had first to understand what each meant and the views each of them have.
At first Nihilism and Atheism may seem like they mean the same thing. Looking deeper into the
definition of each of the words we will find that they are not. Atheism is the denial ( Smart, J. J.
C. ) in God(s). Furthermore, it could be said that Atheism is not a belief system, it doesn t
disbelieve the existence of Gods, it denies that there is a God. Older dictionaries have defined
Atheism as a belief (OED) that there is no God. Disbelieving in something and denying something
are two different things. Disbelieving in

A Madman s Confession In The Tell-Tale Heart By Edgar...
A Madman s Confession
Edgar Allan Poe s The Tell Tale Heart is a magnificent tale of an unnamed narrator attempting to
defend his sanity while revealing he has committed murder. The storyteller makes us believe that
he is in full control of his mind yet he is experiencing a disease that causes him oversensitivity of
the senses. However, it is not the disease that draws us into the story; it is the way Poe vividly
illustrates the destruction mental illness has that leaves a stain on the reader s mind.
There are several passages within the story that demonstrate auditory hallucinations, deluded beliefs
thought processes, and violent tendencies. In modern times we can conclude these are symptoms of
paranoid schizophrenia. However, when this story was composed, paranoid schizophrenia was not
yet discovered, meaning this tale would have been originally considered dark and sinister,
compared to society s current standards. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Driven by his paranoia, he thought: they were making a mockery of my horror (45). Poe was
able to illustrate the narrator s mental breakdown, as you cannot hear the beating of a dead heart;
however, if you are frightened or your pulse is racing, many people claim they can hear the
whooshing sounds of their own heart beating. Poe again illustrates how destructive the illness is on
the narrator, as the narrator is no longer able to tell the difference between reality and his delusion
and could only conclude it was the old man s heart beating beneath the floorboards.
In conclusion, Edgar Allan Poe s The Tell Tale Heartis an incredible gothic fiction story which Poe
eloquently illustrates how mental illness can consume a person s mind and untimely destroy how
reality is perceived. However, it does leave you to question how Poe can understand the inner
workings of a mad man s mind so effortlessly without being mad

Edward Harvey Research Paper
Truly great work comes from the ability to break ground and think outside of traditional
standards. On March 12, 1929 a man named Edward Harvey was born in Washington D.C. Two
weeks into his life, Edward was adopted by Reed and Frances Albee who changed his name to
Edward Albee. The Albee s, recipients of an incredible amount of wealth from the vaudeville and
movie industry, raised Edward in Westchester, New York. With the advantage of social and
economic privilege, Edward was raised to be a respectable member of New York s elite society. He
was constantly exposed to well known theatre personalities throughout his life. Sadly, this lifestyle
resulted in little connection between Edward and his conservative parents. He always felt extremely

His ill relationship with his parents, his constant dismissals from his schooling, and his defiance
all hint that his desires and intentions were directed in places other than learning and preparing
for his future. His behavior seems to reveal a loathing for confinement and typical standards due
to the suffocation of his parent s elite status. His literary characters demonstrate behaviors that are
far from normal or conventional, but with true and genuine intention. This relationship between
Albee s childhood and his work exhibit the power of nurture and its effect on a human being.
Following college, Albee lived in Greenwich Village. Away from his parents, Albee performed
many different jobs, utilizing his grandmother s inheritance to sustain himself. With the guide of
his mentor and music composer William Flanagan, Albee continued to pursue playwriting. Albee
also credited Thorton Wilder for inspiring him to become a playwright. Albee officially became a
famous playwright in the 1950s. In Albee s life, he was involved with various different men, the
longest of whom is Jonathan Thomas who sadly passed away in 2005. In the same bitter sweet
year, Albee won a 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award. He was also the recipient of Kennedy
Honors and the National Medal of the

Positive And Negative Consequences Of Globalization
As millennials we could not fathom ourselves without Wi Fi nor without a cell phone in our
pocket. However, if it were not for globalization we would not possess any of the things that we
have to this day. Yet, what are the consequences of globalization and how do they affect different
parties? One must inquire about these concerns because it is necessary to understand both positions
in order to be aware of the positive and the negative stance that globalization takes. Also there
should be awareness in the policies that have arose based on globalization. Sachs, mentions that

Although many wanted a small governing body Hamilton was right to use government planning to
help the economy of the United States to rise as it has until the day. Hamilton s approach was not a
complete interference by the government rather it was a push to help the small industries take off
as well as help those who were still dependent on agriculture.
Furthermore, one would think that America was set and this is how it became the world s
example to follow. However, times change and many more ideas had to flourish and different
conflicts had to arise, therefore different medications had to be administered to the economy in
order to continue flourishing. Hence, the idea of liberalization was imposed to allow the
economy to expand. Through government planning the United States gave free land during the
Homestead Act as well as free corporations that we privately owned and ran. This concept exactly
sets strains on the economy itself. This idea of free corporations led to problems quickly although
one would never think such corporations would grow and become a threat. Companies were
given the green light to do as they pleased in order to succeed and there was no way for the
government to interfere if the company was for example monopolizing a sector.
Soon after there was a call for once again a change in the government. The change came with

Learning Theology With The Church Fathers Summary
Learning Theology with the Church Fathers by Dr. Christopher A. Hall is a great place for a
pastor, laity, student, or a believer to start growing in knowledge of the Lord and learning theology.
Learning Theology is the second book in Dr. Hall s three volume patristic series examining early
Church history Reading Scripture, Learning Theology, and Worshiping with the Church Fathers.
Dr. Hall is the director of academic spiritual formation and a distinguished professor of theology at
Eastern University in Pennsylvania. He earned his Ph.D. at Drew University, has worked in some
capacity at Eastern University since 1992, and has ministered all over the world.
Hall offers a simple overview, not focusing on one particular church father, which provides a strong
foundational introduction for understanding how theology developed in the early church through
the patristic fathers. His methodology ties life in the early church with today s everyday believers,
which will help them to understand rudimentary theology. Hall begins by preparing the reader to

He specifically advises the reader to learn directly from the church fathers rather than just trusting
his explanation. By doing this, Hall allows the reader to individually process the theological issues
outlined in the text. The mystery of God is interlaced through the chapters of the text, and through
the arguments of the early church fathers as described in the book. Hall uses controversies
pertaining to each topic to help readers understand that, even in the church s early days, there were

A Stuyd on Bhutanese Living in Thimphu City

A study on Bhutanese living in Thimphu City
Chapter I
Background of the study
Organization for Economic Co operation and Development (OECD) International Network on
Financial Education (INFE) has defined financial literacy as a combination of awareness,
knowledge, skill, attitude and behaviour necessary to make sound financial decisions and ultimately
achieve individual financial wellbeing . Bhushan and Medury (2013) stated that financial literacy
helps individuals to improve their level of understanding of financial matters which enables them to
process financial information and make informed decisions about personal finance. It was found that
well functional financial markets depend on participants making informed decisions (Agarwalla et
al., 2012). Moreover, Bhushan and Medury (2013) found that financial education empowers
individuals to take their financial decisions in a better and effective way.
Financial literacy is increasingly important as it has become essential that consumers acquire the
skills to be able to survive in modern society and cope with the increasing diversity and
complexity of financial products and services (Bird, 2008). However, various researches including
OECD survey and International Financial Literacy Barometer (IFLB) have shown that the levels of
financial literacy worldwide are unacceptably low. Further, it was also found that developing
countries have low level of financial literacy

Should Books Be Banned
Almost everything in our world is censored. Movies, TV, video games and even the music we
listen to. Most people know that books are banned from schools but, people seem to overlook the
fact that books have been banned in countries, especially the middle east.
Should books be rated using some type of appropriateness scale? Would such a system be an
inappropriate type of censorship? To properly answer this question we need to understand what
censorship is. Oxford Dictionaries defines censorship as The suppression or prohibition of any
parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat
to security. (). Basically all that means is to remove or otherwise alter sections of media that are
considered confirmatory to social norms. In my opinion books should not be rated on some sort
of appropriateness scale that is currently set up. This feels like an inappropriate form of censorship
for a form of media such as a book. One reason I believe this to be true is that not unlike in other
forms of media, the rating system would be one size fits all. This doesn t translate well into the
world of books. Books are so diverse and so ranging in ideas and mentality that a rating system for
them would be arbitrary. Everyone s mind develops at a different rate. Even when you are the same
age your level of maturity can be drastically different person to person. So a if a book is banned
because, a select few were offended by or otherwise

ANALYSIS OF THE WOMEN IMAGE, BLANCHE AND STELLA, IN TENNESSEE
WILLIAMS A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE
1. Background of Analysis
A streetcar Named Desire is a stage play that written by Tennese Wiliams. It first published in
1947 and takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana. In this play, Williams presents women as
powerless, weak, and passive characters who are tightly linked to their persecutors due to
economic, social, and physical needs. During the time period of Tennessee Williams, author of the
play A Streetcar Named Desire, lived in, men were typically portrayed as leaders of the household.
Therefore, it can be seen that there is a genre struggle in the play. The image of women in this play
seem to be lower than the man.
In this paper, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A Streetcar Named Desire lends itself quite naturally to feminist criticism. Feminism, a movement
whose roots can be traced back to the middle ages, had come into its own in the twentieth century,
though it was not a major force in the American South. Feminist critics, who accept the idea that
gender differences are culturally determined, not inborn, interpret literature as a record of male
dominance. The attitudes of men who impose their will on women and try to convince then of their
inferiority are evident throughout this play: the way they interact with women, discuss them, look
at them, talk to them, use and abuse them.
Williams presentation of women in A Streetcar Named Desire is a traditional one. The image of
women in this play is not different from that presented in traditional literary works in which
women are presented as submissive characters who are dependent upon male s authority and
control and men are portrayed as leaders of the house. The play has only one difference because
Blanche tries to defy a man whom she believes to be inferior to her in class position and education.
It shows the consequences of this upon the life of this woman as she sets herself against this cruel
man. In this sense, an analysis of the female characters presented in the play and their conflict with
the male characters especially Stanley, the dominant male character in the play, is very important

Personal Narrative-Leon Stoudemire Incident

Stoudemire had been drinking, I could tell by the way he was talking. At this time, I was on the

attacking him for about 10 minutes. Eventually I calmed Leon down and helped him off the
ground and retain his balance. He did not grab his clothes that were in the yard instead Leon says
to my mom and I that he is going to call the police and get us put in jail. Leon and my mom
continue fussing at one another and at this point I knew that I was not going to let drive my

that situation, I drove my mom to her friend s house (Darryl Williams). We are talking for about
10 to 15 minutes and I decided that I was going to go home and get my sister because she has to

them and I described where she was because I did not know the address of (Darryl Williams) home.

b. What did the Court decide with respect to the Applicants arguments on partners having to
account to the firm and MDLA 415? In your answer, explain how the Court applied the relevant
law cited the relevant facts and law cited in the judgment (include, for example, what rules
applied). With reference to the Counsel for the Applicants submissions in respect of section 32
of the Partnership Act 1891 (Qld), it was held that this section did not apply as the parties to the
partnership were not Mr James and Mr Meyer. Section 32 would only apply to the given
situation if the parties to the partnership were Mr Meyer and MGM. Further reference was also
made to the fact that consideration was not given as to whether Mr Meyer had profited from his
interests in MDLA 415, in turn were held on behalf of MGM, on behalf of the partnership. With
reference to the Applicants submission, the case of Chan v Zacharia (1984) 154 CLR 178, a
fiduciary relationship could not have existed between Mr James and Mr Meyer, as previously
mentioned it could not be identified as Mr Meyer was not personally a member of the partnership.

The Thematic Apperception Test ( Tat )
11. Remember that the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) is a projective test in which a person is
presented with a series of ambiguous pictures and composes a story. It is an apperception test
because the person reports not what he or she sees but rather a narrative or imaginary interpretation
(Murray, 1938, p. 324). Measured by a self report test, such as the Thematic Apperception Test. The
results demonstrated significant differences. According to the American Journal of Forensic
Psychology, adolescent male sex offenders demonstrate perceptual distortion of their environment
through the use of denial as a defense mechanism. Personality characteristics varied in areas such
as the internalized values and attitudes, their external expression, and inflated self esteem. The
results concluded that adolescent sexual offender is characterized as a unique individual, a result
of a stunted developmental process. Some sex offenders have deviant fantasies and the strong
desire to act on them. There have been instances where some sexual fantasies were actually carried
out. Male and female juvenile sex offenders often exhibit behavior that is sexually abusive at a
young age; some of their unfortunate and innocent victims tend to be male, but there number of
victims increases just as often as the type. Juvenile sex offenders tend to lack social skills that are
an important attributes of their offending, and low intelligence, but a history of sexual abuse in
their family is common.

Isotonic Point
Definitions and Preliminary Observations: Finding the Isotonic Point of Potato Cells In this lab
we will be doing an experiment to find the isotonic point of potato cells by placing potato cores in
solutes with varied and measured concentrations of urea. Other solutes will be tested by other
groups following the same procedure. We will track the change in weight by removing the cores
and weighing them at timed intervals.
In order to understand how and why we will be following this protocol, it will be necessary to go
over some definitions and processes that are foundational to this approach.
The plasma membrane is barrier between a cell and its surroundings, composed of a phospholipid
bilayer and various proteins. Phospholipids are amphipathic lipids with hydrophobic fatty acid tails,
and hydrophilic heads composed of glycerol, choline, and a phosphate group. When phospholipids
come into contact with water they form a bilayer with the hydrophilic heads in contact with the
water, and the hydrophobic tails together and kept separate from the water.
Selective permeability due to this bilayer and its various proteins regulates what can and cannot
enter cells. Some molecules need help to enter the cell, but many enter the cell through passive ...

While the phospholipid bilayer rejects the passage of water molecules, the aquaporins allow water
to enter and exit the cell, making it possible for the solvent to pass through the membrane. Urea is
polar, so we know it will not be allowed to pass through the membrane. It is necessary to understand
passive transport, osmosis, and tonicity to design the procedure and to analyze the resulting data.
With this understanding of the construction, function, and processes of the plasma membrane it

Triple Crossbow Research Paper
Imagine thousands of arrows flying at the enemy, giant triple crossbows that shoot metal arrows
over a mile, gunpowder propelled missiles, a crossbow that fires like a machine gun, pinpoint
accurate catapults that can take down specific targets, and bombs exploding all over the ground.
One might think that this is ancient Europejust as one might think that the best warriors in the
ancient world were Europeans such as Anglo Saxons, French, and Greeks. However, this is an
ancient battlefield of China. The reality is that the European warriors were always trying to catch
up to the Chinese. In fact, the Chinese made advances in sword making, archery, siege weapons,
and ballistics long before Europeans had grasped those ideas.

The Europeans invented the trebuchet in the late Medieval Ages. It took many men to load and fire
the weapon, but the trebuchet could accurately launch projectiles from a great distance, almost one
mile. However, the triple crossbow is a true siege weapon of mass destruction. It was first depicted
in an ancient document called the Essentials Of the Military Arts, which was completed in the
early Song Dynasty (1043 AD). With a total length of 7.62 meters, this colossal weapon used
three bows to shoot a single bolt. Despite its size, the Chinese generals would mount it on a pivot
that made it extremely mobile and versatile, allowing it to turn in a full 360 degrees. According
the Essentials Of the Military Arts, the triple crossbow would be mounted on top of a tower and
the bolts fired were massive full iron and steel arrows almost the size of the triple crossbow
itself, which could be fired over a mile. The image of a massive iron arrow flying at high speeds
and destroying a building into rubble around the enemies could create fear within the ranks. The
fear the bow instilled could cause an army or town to surrender before any actual fighting begins.
As Sun Tzu said, a skillful leader subdues the enemy s troops without any fighting. These brilliant
engineers created the Triple crossbow at the same time as the trebuchet, but it had a more versatile
range of motion and could send projectiles further than the trebuchet therefor making it more useful

Why Is Running Hot Water Over The Metal Lid Of A Glass Jar
Running hot water over the metal lid of a glass jar makes it easier to open the jar. Why? Discuss
two other practical examples based on matter and/or heat concepts.
Physics explains thermal expansion as linear dimensions increasing by the same percentage with an
increase in temperature. In other words, when you heat an object, that object expands and becomes
larger due to the change in the object s temperature. Raising an object s temperature, in this case,
the metal lid, causes it s molecules to move faster. The faster molecules move, the more space they
occupy. If something occupies more space than it originally did, then by definition it is now bigger.
Therefore, the heat exchange from water to metal heats the molecules within the lid

The Houses of Parliament, Cas Vromans
The Palace of Westminster is the meeting spot of the House of Commons and the House of Lords,
the two homes of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Generally known as the Houses of
Parliament after its inhabitants, it is otherwise called the heart of British legislative issues . The
Palace lies on the north bank of the River Thames in the City of Westminster, in focal London.
The principal illustrious castle was based on the site in the eleventh century, and Westminster was
the main living place of the Kings of England until flame decimated a great part of the complex in
1512. After that, it served as the home of the Parliament of England, which had been meeting there
since the thirteenth century, furthermore as the seat of the Royal Courts of Justice, situated in and
around Westminster Hall. In 1834, a considerably more noteworthy fire desolated the vigorously
remade Houses of Parliament, and the main huge medieval structures to survive were Westminster
Hall, the Cloisters of St Stephen s, the Chapel of St Mary Undercroft, and the Jewel Tower.
Its name, which gets from the neighboring Westminster Abbey, may allude to both of two

quick to become anomalous is likely due to the initial detection of viral ssRNA by RIG I
(Pichlmair, et al., 2006). In fig. 5, we show further evidence of the pathway cascade, i.e., the
fraction of the subjects that have k pathways out of 403 that are in alarm at a given time averaged
over all symptomatic subjects. This graph suggests that the pathway cascade could permit a
potentially very early diagnosis of influenza. For example, these results suggest that at least 25% of
patients that become symptomatic could be identified in the first 16 hours of infection using a five
alarm pathway. Discussion of pathway results The most likely pathway to go into alarm first in our
experiment, based on the MSET results, was the cytosolic DNA sensing pathway. It was the first
pathway to alarm in the cascade over 70% of the time. Influenza A does not generate dsDNA, but
negative sense ssRNA (Pichlmair, et al., 2006). The cytosolic DNA sensing pathway is known to
detect foreign dsDNA in the cell and upon detection of this exogenous DNA, production and
maturation of cytokines and interferons initiates an immune response (http://www.genome.jp/dbget

Robert Frost, Home Burial, By Robert Frost
One of the most influential poets of all time is Robert Frost he is a staple in any literature class.
He has a majestic way with words and is able to project imagery in ways that many people wish
they could. Students might not realize under these beautifully written poems there is a man pouring
his heart and soul out into them. Robert Frostsuffered from a very difficult life where deathand
depression was around every corner. Once readers realize what kind of life Frost had, it
becomes apparent on how dark many of his poems really are. I feel like Frost was alone and the
only way for him to let people know his situation was putting it in words. Home Burial is a
particularly dark poem about the death of a child which I feel as if it is an homage to his
children who have passed away, and his way of giving his grief life. The Road Not Taken talks
about the life choices you make and whether they are the correct choice to make, and Mending
Wall talks about have social and mental walls that separate people. These poems were all written
within a year of each other and hold many dark images which is Frost sharing his pain hoping to
reach another and connect with them. First, having a knowledge of Frosts past is imperative. In
1885 when he was 11, his father died of tuberculosis, leaving the family with just eight dollars.
Frost s mother died of cancer in 1900. In 1920, he had to commit his younger sister Jeanie to a

Decision Making Decision Analysis
In chapter 12, the book offered 7 strategies to improve decision making efforts. These strategies
were broken in to two separate groups, the first three are broad sweeping changes, and the last
four are techniques to improve decisions we are making. Managers are measured on the
decisions that they are making. A good manager will know what it takes to make sound, and
reasonable decisions. Decisions define who we are, and they can have profound effects on others,
so we must choose wisely when it comes to the final result. The first strategy, using decision
analysis tools, states that we must rely on procedures to make decisions. A good example of this
would be buying a car, we must weigh the financial obligations with the need for the new... Show

This is the process of using one or more lessons learned to debias our thought process. Tough
decisions can be made when we are faced with similar problems that have a similar outcome.
Focusing on one problem by itself can lead to us only focusing on one aspect of a decision, and
nothing else. Again, this is a trap, and the more we see, the more we can make informed
decisions. Strategy five is take an outsiders view. This states that an outsiders view tends to be
less biased and more generalized, therefore the decisions are somewhat easier. A good example
is when we assume that we can do something better than the last person, only to be surprised that
we cannot. Strategy six is understand bias in others. It is a fact that as leaders we must work
with others that make decisions. We must analyze past decisions, and try to find better ways to
do things in the workplace. Leveraging things like comparisons, estimation, and prediction can
all help make more sound decisions. Strategy seven is make wiser and more ethical decisions. A
simple example of this is when a company forces a manager to look at capabilities over a
stereotype, therefore eliminating any bias toward a specific person or persons. This can lead to
better performing staff, and more work

Government Corruption In Nigeria
Several factors contribute to a country s insecurity and decline of a country s inability to effectively
enact policies that benefit, protect and ensure the wellbeing of a country s citizens. Consequentially,
if a country fails to outline and properly address problems within its own domestic domain, it stands
to reason that the country has not successfully securitized the issue, which permits its sovereignty
to be threatened. For the focus of this argument, this paper will examine the ineffectual
securitization of governmental corruption in Nigeriathrough deliberate neglect of malpractices in
government and the implementation of poor policies and norms that pervade the system and create
insecurity, instability, threats and hinder the welfare of the populace. To begin this examination, an
understanding of the issue is necessary to receive a full appreciation of why Nigeria s failures in
securitizing the issue of corruption is important to the argument. This unsuccessful securitization is
possible because within government corruption, while being tied particularly to the act of bribery, is
a general term covering misuse of authority as a result of considerations of personal gain, which
need not be monetary (Bayley 720). Correspondingly, it is imperative for this overarching argument
to comprehend this concept because the quote allows for the conclusion that corruption influences
the root of decision making by enticing leaders and policy makers into acting in ways that

Fifth Business Character Analysis
Fifth Business is the first book of Robertson Davies Deptford Trilogy. The novel is a memoir of

characters play a huge significant role in Dunstable s life as he develops, however, many of those
people are women. Leading examples of this are Fiona Ramsay, his mother; Mary Dempster, the
woman who changed his life; Diana Marfleet, his nurse and meaningful love; and Liselotte

A Report On The Digestive System
Andres Nogales
Professor Dr. Felton
Essay 1: Since this student had a bag of chips which is carbs and turkey sandwich which is
considered protein and fat and water. The first stage in the digestive system is ingestion when the
student enters his lunch in their mouth. In this stage there is mechanical and chemical digestion
taken place. The mechanical digestion is take place by biting and tearing the food into smaller parts
which would then be known as bolus. Chemical digestion is occurred when the three salivary
glands sublingual, submandibular, and paratoid gland that secretes saliva which contains amylase.
Amylase is used in this case to breakdown starch. In the mouth the carbohydrates and fat are broken
down. In carbohydrates the starch and disaccharides are mixed with the salivary amylase, and in
fats the unemulsified triglycerides are mixed with lingual lipase. Once mechanical and chemical
digestion is complete in the mouth food continues its route to the digestive system going through
deglutition. In deglutition the esophagus sphincter begins to contract in which the tongue forces
the bolus upward towards the hard palate making the bolus to enter the oropharynx. Once it enter
the oropharynx in order to prevent the bolus to enter the trachea the uvula and larynx rise upward
and the superior esophageal sphincter starts to relax which would then allow food to enter the
esophagus. Once that occurs the muscles of pharynx contract making the bolus to travel down the

Educators Struggle with Philosophy
As an educator we all struggle with philosophy and where to go from there once we decide what
our set of beliefs are. Once we put our philosophy in place, we then struggle with changing our
philosophy. I believe that philosophies can be always changing any given situation and in order for
growth as an educator we have to be aware to the situations that can change our philosophy, as well
as being true to our core beliefs. However, in order for this to happen we must understand what
philosophy is, and what it is not and how it fall in line with ideology and theories. For this
assignment, I will compare and contrast philosophy, ideology, and theory.
Philosophy is the most beliefs about what is true or real according to individual values (Gutek,
2009). Philosophy is our beliefs that will determine what we do professionally and personally. Not
having a philosophy set in place, it will be difficult to make decisions within the classroom,
creating curriculums and evaluate progress. Although a person can set goals without having a
philosophy implemented, not having the foundation of a set philosophy (core set of beliefs)
achieving the goals can be a very difficult challenge.
Educators need a starting point to understand why we think and act the way we do in our
classrooms. Having a philosophy allows an educator to reflect on how to make classroom actions
consistent with our beliefs related to learning. However, before we list our beliefs we need to
delve deeper into what makes

Theme Of Labyrinth In The Name Of The Rose
The Name of The Rose is full of twists and turns. It is mostly based on the idea of a labyrinth. It
is a book taken from another book, found by the author that contained a 14th century text by Adso
of Melk, that talks about another book, which is Aristotle s book on comedy. Also other books
were mentioned in this novel like, Sherlock Holmes Arabian Nights, Don Quixote, and Inferno.
These texts are a magnificent example of how words speak of words and represent the idea of
intertextuality that is used in this novel.
Intertextuality is a linguistic labyrinth. It is a text within a text to reach one text, The Name of The
Rose. Just like how William and Adso got lost in some kind of a virtual labyrinth or a maze as
they went to different rooms until they finally reached the library to find the truth. William
describes life as a labyrinth when he says: How beautiful the world would be if there were
procedures for moving through labyrinths. he uses his pragmatic thinking skills to figure out signs

A place where men who are supposed to be religious, pray, committed to rules and religious
restrictions and seek the truth, lie and hide the truth and even commit murders to keep it hidden. A
place that is dominated by dreadfulness and anxiety inhabited by people who follow blindly
without reasoning, believing what is said to them without questioning it, and once someone tries to
find the truth, think for themselves or start questioning they die. Jorge represents the strict
religious people in this miniature copy of the world, who forces people to follow and obey
blindly, while William represents the free thinkers, the logical people. This is almost a perfect

Feature Matching
Determining the most beneficial augmentative and alternative communication device is a critical
component in AAC because it takes time and dedication to teach a client how to use the device as
well as teach others around them how to understand. Hypothetically if a SLP were to provide
wasted effort the results could have the potential to be devastating because in some circumstances
all the client has is little time. Lucky enough for speech language pathologists there are models for
assessment that provide guided intervention tactics. Assessment models can be described as feature
matching, the participation model, and or the universal design for learning. Typically, feature
matching is a quick and easy way to guide assessment because essentially... Show more content on

The participation model begins by identifying the participation patterns and communication needs
where the clinician then identifies participation barriers (Beukelman Mirenda, 2013, p. 108). SLP s
are then taught to differentiate between assessing opportunity barriers and assessing access barriers
in the concept that the working clinician evaluates policy, practice, facilitator skill, facilitator
knowledge, attitude, and current communication (Beukelman Mirenda, 2013, p. 108). The client s
current communication assessment includes a full assessment of their possible potential to increase
natural abilities, an assessment of potential environmental adaptations, and an assessment of the
potential to utilize AAC systems or devices (Beukelman Mirenda, 2013, p. 108). Once there has
been a thorough analysis the speech language pathologist should plan and implement interventions
that will span across the present and the future with a follow up to determine how effective the
intervention has been in advancing a client s participation (Beukelman Mirenda, 2013, p.

Eric Foner American Freedom Summary
Response to Eric Foner on American Freedom Foner emphasizes on the diverse interpretations of
freedom, and based on people s lived experiences within American society, it can represent different
things. Since it has no fixed definition within the article, Foner views freedom as a concept and
states by its very nature is the subject of disagreement (xiv). People s worldview can help shape
what freedom means to them and it may limit what freedom means to others. Although the
Declaration of Independence promotes all humans having unalienable rights given by the creator,
which are life , liberty and the pursuit of happiness, not all americans are able to enjoy those rights
in American society. As American societal norms constantly change (eventually),

This approach is a way to miss and dismiss the point of Blacks actually discussing the critical
state their community is in. The focus is not black lives over other s lives in the world, but is it
the focus of the neglect of black lives, when taken away, they are not viewed with disgust as
when their white counterparts die/are harassed in the same manner. It s weirdly interesting that
when Blacks are literally killed for following the law and are unarmed, they are blamed for their
own death, all because a cop feared for their life. Once officers say that phrase, which I view as a
clichГ© to say when one signs up for such a fearful job, cases are usually wrapped up and
forgotten about. However, thanks to social media, the public is able to see the hideous lies and
blatant truth about certain cases that highlight why the people have a problem with the
government and distrust the police. Oddly as all Americans are forced to pay taxes, these taxes
go to public necessities like schools, to fire stations and to the police station, even to wars. Sadly
I interpret it as the government focuses Blacks to pay police to kill their people off, and the
government seems to always instantly support the officer s word over the victim (if still alive), and
people. If people do not stand up against

The Basics and the Criticisms Moira E. Hanna H Clemson University na an Hofstede 2 Abstract Hofstede s model (1980) has been used widely in research in the past two decades. The culture based model consists of four dimensions: power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism collectivism, and masculinity femininity. Each of these dimensions was identified through the use of group level data collected from IBM branches in 40 different countries. Despite the contributions of the model to cultural research, it has faced many criticisms over the years. Some in principle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. as a whole may exhibit high power distance, but the distribution of individuals within the country typically follows a normal curve. Primarily, some people will be extremely high or low on power distance, but the majority center around the intermediate levels of power distance. Despite the difference between national and individual levels of power distance, the individual does influence the national level. In a study done by Maznevski, DiStefano, Gomez, Noorderhaven, and Wu (2002), it was found that when cultural data was first gathered at the individual level then aggregated to the national level, there was a Hofstede 5 difference in means between countries. This indicates that, the average individual level of power distance will be higher in a country that is ranked high on power distance. So what exactly influences the individual level of power distance? Such aspects as age, where you grew up, and if you moved away from the country help to determine each individual s level of power distance (Triandis, 2004; Yamada Singelis, 1999). The idea of individual and national levels of analysis presented for power distance also holds true for the remaining three cultural dimensions. M The second dimension is uncertainty avoidance. ... Looking closer at the definition of Nihilism and Atheism I found the main difference in definition between the two which will later be explained in detail. To begin to understand the difference between Atheism and Nihilism I had first to understand what each meant and the views each of them have. At first Nihilism and Atheism may seem like they mean the same thing. Looking deeper into the definition of each of the words we will find that they are not. Atheism is the denial ( Smart, J. J. • 9. A Madman s Confession In The Tell-Tale Heart By Edgar... A Madman s Confession Edgar Allan Poe s The Tell Tale Heart is a magnificent tale of an unnamed narrator attempting to defend his sanity while revealing he has committed murder. The storyteller makes us believe that he is in full control of his mind yet he is experiencing a disease that causes him oversensitivity of the senses. However, it is not the disease that draws us into the story; it is the way Poe vividly illustrates the destruction mental illness has that leaves a stain on the reader s mind. There are several passages within the story that demonstrate auditory hallucinations, deluded beliefs thought processes, and violent tendencies. In modern times we can conclude these are symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia. However, when this story was composed, paranoid schizophrenia was not yet discovered, meaning this tale would have been originally considered dark and sinister, compared to society s current standards. ... Poe was able to illustrate the narrator s mental breakdown, as you cannot hear the beating of a dead heart; however, if you are frightened or your pulse is racing, many people claim they can hear the whooshing sounds of their own heart beating. Poe again illustrates how destructive the illness is on the narrator, as the narrator is no longer able to tell the difference between reality and his delusion and could only conclude it was the old man s heart beating beneath the floorboards. In conclusion, Edgar Allan Poe s The Tell Tale Heartis an incredible gothic fiction story which Poe eloquently illustrates how mental illness can consume a person s mind and untimely destroy how reality is perceived. Financial literacy is increasingly important as it has become essential that consumers acquire the skills to be able to survive in modern society and cope with the increasing diversity and complexity of financial products and services (Bird, 2008). • 16. Should Books Be Banned Almost everything in our world is censored. Movies, TV, video games and even the music we listen to. Most people know that books are banned from schools but, people seem to overlook the fact that books have been banned in countries, especially the middle east. Should books be rated using some type of appropriateness scale? Would such a system be an inappropriate type of censorship? To properly answer this question we need to understand what censorship is. Oxford Dictionaries defines censorship as The suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security. (). Basically all that means is to remove or otherwise alter sections of media that are considered confirmatory to social norms. In my opinion books should not be rated on some sort of appropriateness scale that is currently set up. This feels like an inappropriate form of censorship for a form of media such as a book. One reason I believe this to be true is that not unlike in other forms of media, the rating system would be one size fits all. This doesn t translate well into the world of books. Books are so diverse and so ranging in ideas and mentality that a rating system for them would be arbitrary. Everyone s mind develops at a different rate. A Streetcar Named Desire lends itself quite naturally to feminist criticism. Feminism, a movement whose roots can be traced back to the middle ages, had come into its own in the twentieth century, though it was not a major force in the American South. Feminist critics, who accept the idea that gender differences are culturally determined, not inborn, interpret literature as a record of male dominance. The attitudes of men who impose their will on women and try to convince then of their inferiority are evident throughout this play: the way they interact with women, discuss them, look at them, talk to them, use and abuse them. Williams presentation of women in A Streetcar Named Desire is a traditional one. The image of women in this play is not different from that presented in traditional literary works in which women are presented as submissive characters who are dependent upon male s authority and control and men are portrayed as leaders of the house. The play has only one difference because Blanche tries to defy a man whom she believes to be inferior to her in class position and education. It shows the consequences of this upon the life of this woman as she sets herself against this cruel man. In this sense, an analysis of the female characters presented in the play and their conflict with the male characters especially Stanley, the dominant male character in the play, is very important ... With a total length of 7.62 meters, this colossal weapon used three bows to shoot a single bolt. Despite its size, the Chinese generals would mount it on a pivot that made it extremely mobile and versatile, allowing it to turn in a full 360 degrees. According the Essentials Of the Military Arts, the triple crossbow would be mounted on top of a tower and the bolts fired were massive full iron and steel arrows almost the size of the triple crossbow itself, which could be fired over a mile. The image of a massive iron arrow flying at high speeds and destroying a building into rubble around the enemies could create fear within the ranks. The fear the bow instilled could cause an army or town to surrender before any actual fighting begins. As Sun Tzu said, a skillful leader subdues the enemy s troops without any fighting. These brilliant engineers created the Triple crossbow at the same time as the trebuchet, but it had a more versatile range of motion and could send projectiles further than the trebuchet therefor making it more useful on the ... • 25. Why Is Running Hot Water Over The Metal Lid Of A Glass Jar Running hot water over the metal lid of a glass jar makes it easier to open the jar. Why? Discuss two other practical examples based on matter and/or heat concepts. Physics explains thermal expansion as linear dimensions increasing by the same percentage with an increase in temperature. In other words, when you heat an object, that object expands and becomes larger due to the change in the object s temperature. Raising an object s temperature, in this case, the metal lid, causes it s molecules to move faster. The faster molecules move, the more space they occupy. If something occupies more space than it originally did, then by definition it is now bigger. Therefore, the heat exchange from water to metal heats the molecules within the lid ... After that, it served as the home of the Parliament of England, which had been meeting there since the thirteenth century, furthermore as the seat of the Royal Courts of Justice, situated in and around Westminster Hall. In 1834, a considerably more noteworthy fire desolated the vigorously remade Houses of Parliament, and the main huge medieval structures to survive were Westminster Hall, the Cloisters of St Stephen s, the Chapel of St Mary Undercroft, and the Jewel Tower. Similarly, the fact that the DNA sensing pathway is quick to become anomalous is likely due to the initial detection of viral ssRNA by RIG I (Pichlmair, et al., 2006). In fig. 5, we show further evidence of the pathway cascade, i.e., the fraction of the subjects that have k pathways out of 403 that are in alarm at a given time averaged over all symptomatic subjects. This graph suggests that the pathway cascade could permit a potentially very early diagnosis of influenza. For example, these results suggest that at least 25% of patients that become symptomatic could be identified in the first 16 hours of infection using a five alarm pathway. Discussion of pathway results The most likely pathway to go into alarm first in our experiment, based on the MSET results, was the cytosolic DNA sensing pathway. It was the first pathway to alarm in the cascade over 70% of the time. Influenza A does not generate dsDNA, but negative sense ssRNA (Pichlmair, et al., 2006). The cytosolic DNA sensing pathway is known to detect foreign dsDNA in the cell and upon detection of this exogenous DNA, production and maturation of cytokines and interferons initiates an immune response (http://www.genome.jp/dbget bin/www_bget?pathway+hsa04623). He has a majestic way with words and is able to project imagery in ways that many people wish they could. Students might not realize under these beautifully written poems there is a man pouring his heart and soul out into them. Robert Frostsuffered from a very difficult life where deathand depression was around every corner. Once readers realize what kind of life Frost had, it becomes apparent on how dark many of his poems really are. I feel like Frost was alone and the only way for him to let people know his situation was putting it in words. Home Burial is a particularly dark poem about the death of a child which I feel as if it is an homage to his children who have passed away, and his way of giving his grief life. The Road Not Taken talks about the life choices you make and whether they are the correct choice to make, and Mending Wall talks about have social and mental walls that separate people. These poems were all written within a year of each other and hold many dark images which is Frost sharing his pain hoping to reach another and connect with them. • 31. Decision Making Decision Analysis In chapter 12, the book offered 7 strategies to improve decision making efforts. These strategies were broken in to two separate groups, the first three are broad sweeping changes, and the last four are techniques to improve decisions we are making. Managers are measured on the decisions that they are making. A good manager will know what it takes to make sound, and reasonable decisions. Decisions define who we are, and they can have profound effects on others, so we must choose wisely when it comes to the final result. The first strategy, using decision analysis tools, states that we must rely on procedures to make decisions. This is the process of using one or more lessons learned to debias our thought process. Tough decisions can be made when we are faced with similar problems that have a similar outcome. Focusing on one problem by itself can lead to us only focusing on one aspect of a decision, and nothing else. Again, this is a trap, and the more we see, the more we can make informed decisions. Strategy five is take an outsiders view. This states that an outsiders view tends to be less biased and more generalized, therefore the decisions are somewhat easier. A good example is when we assume that we can do something better than the last person, only to be surprised that we cannot. Strategy six is understand bias in others. It is a fact that as leaders we must work with others that make decisions. We must analyze past decisions, and try to find better ways to do things in the workplace. Leveraging things like comparisons, estimation, and prediction can all help make more sound decisions. Strategy seven is make wiser and more ethical decisions. A simple example of this is when a company forces a manager to look at capabilities over a stereotype, therefore eliminating any bias toward a specific person or persons. Government Corruption In Nigeria Several factors contribute to a country s insecurity and decline of a country s inability to effectively enact policies that benefit, protect and ensure the wellbeing of a country s citizens. Consequentially, if a country fails to outline and properly address problems within its own domestic domain, it stands to reason that the country has not successfully securitized the issue, which permits its sovereignty to be threatened. For the focus of this argument, this paper will examine the ineffectual securitization of governmental corruption in Nigeriathrough deliberate neglect of malpractices in government and the implementation of poor policies and norms that pervade the system and create insecurity, instability, threats and hinder the welfare of the populace. To begin this examination, an understanding of the issue is necessary to receive a full appreciation of why Nigeria s failures in securitizing the issue of corruption is important to the argument. This unsuccessful securitization is possible because within government corruption, while being tied particularly to the act of bribery, is a general term covering misuse of authority as a result of considerations of personal gain, which need not be monetary (Bayley 720). Correspondingly, it is imperative for this overarching argument to comprehend this concept because the quote allows for the conclusion that corruption influences the root of decision making by enticing leaders and policy makers into acting in ways that ... A Report On The Digestive System Andres Nogales Professor Dr. Felton Essay 1: Since this student had a bag of chips which is carbs and turkey sandwich which is considered protein and fat and water. The first stage in the digestive system is ingestion when the student enters his lunch in their mouth. In this stage there is mechanical and chemical digestion taken place. The mechanical digestion is take place by biting and tearing the food into smaller parts which would then be known as bolus. Chemical digestion is occurred when the three salivary glands sublingual, submandibular, and paratoid gland that secretes saliva which contains amylase. Amylase is used in this case to breakdown starch. In the mouth the carbohydrates and fat are broken down. In carbohydrates the starch and disaccharides are mixed with the salivary amylase, and in fats the unemulsified triglycerides are mixed with lingual lipase. Once mechanical and chemical digestion is complete in the mouth food continues its route to the digestive system going through deglutition. In deglutition the esophagus sphincter begins to contract in which the tongue forces the bolus upward towards the hard palate making the bolus to enter the oropharynx. Once it enter the oropharynx in order to prevent the bolus to enter the trachea the uvula and larynx rise upward and the superior esophageal sphincter starts to relax which would then allow food to enter the esophagus. Once that occurs the muscles of pharynx contract making the bolus to travel down the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Once we put our philosophy in place, we then struggle with changing our philosophy. I believe that philosophies can be always changing any given situation and in order for growth as an educator we have to be aware to the situations that can change our philosophy, as well as being true to our core beliefs. However, in order for this to happen we must understand what philosophy is, and what it is not and how it fall in line with ideology and theories. For this assignment, I will compare and contrast philosophy, ideology, and theory. Philosophy is the most beliefs about what is true or real according to individual values (Gutek, 2009). Philosophy is our beliefs that will determine what we do professionally and personally. Not having a philosophy set in place, it will be difficult to make decisions within the classroom, creating curriculums and evaluate progress. Although a person can set goals without having a philosophy implemented, not having the foundation of a set philosophy (core set of beliefs) achieving the goals can be a very difficult challenge. Educators need a starting point to understand why we think and act the way we do in our classrooms.
