The Between Inductivist And Popper s Points Of View Of...
The following essay aims to discuss the inconsistencies between the inductivist and Popper s points of
view of science rationality of science in light of claims that the scientific method is inductive yet an
inductive method is no. I think is rational to say that inductivist view of science has significant
contradiction that Popper s view solves. To support Popper s view my argument will introduce the
inductivist and falsificationsist views and I will focus in showing the issues of considered science as
objective, scientific knowledge as proven and nature as uniform as well as the differences between
inductivism and falsificationism to the creation of hypothesis.
The main view of the statement seeing scientific knowledge as proof relays in the assumption that
scientific reasoning is inductive. Therefore, as first point I will introduce the main statement of
inductivism. The principle of induction states scientific method relays in the objective observation as
the basis for the foundation of laws and theories without the influence of subjectivisms such as
opinions and beliefs, for this uses the observation of particular statements to the creation of general
statements. Furthermore, inductivism assumes that nature will always be uniform, thus infers from
past patterns to the creation of hypothesis and laws. Finally, inductivism sees scientific knowledge as
proven knowledge.
Secondly I will introduce the Popper s view known as falsificationism and its inconsistencies with

The Prestige Analysis
The Prestige Analysis
The Prestige is a film adaptation of the Christopher Priest novel bearing the same name. The story is
set in the turn of the century London about two stage magicians, their rivalry, and their obsession to be
the best with the artistry and secrecy of illusion. The analysis of The Prestige will examine several
aspects of the film including plot, character development, use of sound, use of photography, set
design, lighting, and role of the collaborators. Each of these areas is important to create the emotion,
suspense, and energy for a successful and entertaining film.
The Plot
The filmmakers introduce a man who designs the equipment to pull off the illusions. The magic of a
successful illusion consists of three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other key characters include Mr. Cutter, Sarah Borden, and Olivia Wenscombe. Mr. Cutter, the
engineer that designs the mechanical devices used for the illusions, tells the story leading up to the
death of Mr. Angier and Mr. Borden. Sarah Borden, Alfred Borden s wife, displays confusion over the
on again, off again love received by Mr. Borden. Throughout the film, she expresses this confusion by
telling Alfred, Today, it s true, or Today, you don t mean it (Nolan, Ryder, and Thomas). She believes
on some days, his love of magic is greater than his love for her. Olivia Wenscombe, Mr. Angier s
assistant and later Mr. Borden s mistress, represented a woman who loved the attention of the stage.
Her outgoing personality embodied through her clothing and her dialogue.
The Use of Sound
Even though the film is essentially a visual experience, the use of sound has become extremely
important in modern film. The modern viewer hears a complicated soundtrack that is as meaningful as
the image on the screen. Three elements comprise the film s soundtrack: the dialogue, the sound
effects, and the musical score. The proper balance and mix of these elements produced the essential
emphasis required, which created the desired effects. As explained by Joseph Boggs and Dennis
Petrie,
Because we are more consciously aware of what we see than what we hear, we generally accept the
soundtrack without much thought, responding intuitively to the

The United States Law Enforcement Essay
Law enforcement goes as far back as to cave dwellers, if it was not for England, the United States
would be at a lost for policing. The United States uses the consensus and conflict theories to help the
American people have a better understanding of human behavior and its limits. There are many types
of policing that were identified and it is the law enforcement officers job to protect and sever and to
deliver criminals into the hands of the law. If it was not for law enforcement officers, the community
would be a disaster.
When the development in urban England began, the town started forming commerce, industry, and a
variety of buildings usually made of wood because England was primarily forest land (Hess, 2013; p.
10). The town guild appointed men to use the Watch and Ward system because of fire prevention
purposes and it was assumed those men s job was to also prevent people from breaking into houses
and shops (Hess, 2013; p.10). These appointed men became known as the watchmen. The Watch and
Ward system was suitable until the Industrial Revolution began because famine began to strike rural
areas, and large amounts of people moved into the town to find work such as weaving and knitting
mill and in factories (Hess, 2013; p. 10). The large groups of people that moved in to the town were
unable to find work, and therefore started creating mobs to march on Parliament (Hess, 2013; p. 10).
The government had no civil police force to deal with mob violence,

BARRIERS TO COMMUNICATION In any organization effective communication forms an essential
part of the organization s growth and progress. However, it has been seen that this is not always the
case. This istrue in today s globalized world when one has employees coming from different ethnic,
cultural and religious backgrounds working together. If the reasons for communication failure are
examined it has been found that they fall in four distinct categories. These are: 1) Process or
organizational barriers. 2) Personal barriers 3) Physical barriers 4) Semantic barriers These categories
will be examined in detail, one by one. Organizational or Process barriers: The organizational barriers

4) Complexity of the structure: More complex the structure, more are the levels in it. In a complex
structure it takes longer for any communication to reach the correct destination from the sender. 5)
Organizational facilities: This includes all the media and facilities used for communication. Adequate
provisioning of stationery, telephones, computers, etc. are essential for effective communication.
Personal barriers: These are barriers that are imposed by the personality and culture o the persons
participating in the communication. These barriers are found both in vertical and horizontal
communications. These barriers are further sub divided into: 1) Barriers with superiors: This when the
superiors feel that there may be a challenge to their position and authority. This is when the superiors
are not confident in their ability and fear that any communication with their juniors could lead to their
deficiencies being exposed. Another problem arises when the superior has little or no confidence in
the capabilities of his or her sub ordinates. This leads to them ignoring any suggestions and
communications made by their sub ordinates. 2) Barriers with sub ordinates: These are due to reasons
like the unwillingness to communicate any negative information since there is a fear that it may reflect
on their performance. Hence such information, which

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Gas Turbine
A gas turbine by definition is an engine in the centre of a power plant producing electric current [1]. It
is also a rotary engine extracting energy from flow of combustion gas. Gas turbine is responsible for
the conversion of natural gas or any other liquid fuels into mechanical energy. This energy can
therefore be used to drive the generator to produce electrical energy [1 3]. Gas turbine is made up of
components as shown in Figure 1 below. Figure 1: Gas turbine showing arrangements of all
components

Corrosion is the chemical reaction between the material and the surrounding environment causing it to
deteriorate. In this case, corrosion occurs as a result of the reaction of the blade material and
substances in the fuel from the combustor. Agents of this reaction are contents of the fuels and
contamination present in the fuel and also pollution from the air entering the compressor [4]. There is

Similarities Between Wonder And Jessica From The Running...
If you fall behind, run faster. Never give up, never surrender, and rise up against the odds a quote by
Jesse Jackson. Although Auggie from Wonder and Jessica from The Running Dream are very different
they also have many similarities. In The Running Dream, Jessica, is a highschool student gets into a
serious car accident causing her to lose about half of her leg. Throughout the book the author,
Wendelin Van Draanen expresses Jessica s emotions mostly through school and the thing she loves
most, running. While on the other hand Auggie, a elementary student was born with severe
craniofacial syndrome and deals with looking very t5 different from the rest of the kids he goes to

These two characters are very similar with the challenges they face. Auggie in particular has a
different looking face from other people. Similarly, Jessica is missing part of a limb. These two cases
are very similar because, they both face rare challenges that not many people face. Another reason to
prove how similar these two characters are is, they both deal with people constantly looking at them.
Auggie is used to it but it does every once and awhile get on his nerves. While it also bothers Jessica
because people always look at her stump as she calls it. These two examples show how similar they
are while facing reality. And my last reason to prove how similar they are is there friendships with
people from school. First, Auggie meets Jack his new friend and become great friends. Similarly
Jessica meets Rosa a very smart person who helped Jessica out in school. These examples are
important because, both Auggie and Jessica had good outcomes after rough starts. Those where just

Security of the Political and Social Position of the...
Security of the Political and Social Position of the Nobility in Early Modern Europe
The nobility of early modern Europe were descended on the whole from the mounted knights of
medieval armies who had been granted land along with social and political privileges and had
subsequently formed a higher social class. Between 1500 1789 the status of the aristocracy came
under threat both politically and socially. The rise of absolutism within the monarchies of Europe led
to the desire of governments to reduce noble power and bypass several of their privileges in order to
increase state revenue and centralise governmental control. The growth of the middle classes and the
destruction of the feudal system ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thirdly the nobility experienced a crisis of identity and a loss of purpose as their status decreased and
there was a general relaxation of reverence [3].
The exercise of arms had been an intrinsic element in proving a noble s worth but after 1500 letters
were often disassociated from arms and proved a far more certain road to wealth and nobility that the
life of the warrior [4] and an education became as important as military prowess had been previously.
This is another example of the nobility being forced to adapt to the social pressures of the period. As
the middle classes grew they forced the nobility to change its outlook and modernise to keep up with
the rest of society or become diminished and backwards. Educational standards also enabled the
nobles to be judged by the universal standards of achievement rather than birth [5]. This demonstrates
the changing attitudes of the lower classes as they began to require justification of the nobility s high
status.
The nobility s high social position was confirmed by their privileges, which firmly distinguished noble
from commoner [6]. These included fiscal advantages, such as being exempt from taxation, judicial
privileges, their exclusion from menial work within state service, their political

Henry Ford Industry Research Paper
Henry Ford and the Expansion of the Ford Industry Ford, the name almost every person in America
associates with the successful car industry. However, not everyone understands how Henry Ford made
the world wide business as we see it today. Nearly a century ago Henry Ford and his son Edsel
procured blazing success for the Ford car industry from 1920 to 1924, to end up re nurturing the
flickering flame from 1925 to 1929, while also benefiting and promoting other industries of the time.
When the Ford company entered the 1920 s, they were struggling to get past financial difficulties. To

a sixty million dollar loan. The deadline for repaying this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They even made sure to secure several miles of railroads to transport their materials back and forth
(Geldermen). Edsel invested his time and money in ventures that he thought would benefit others,
including the Roscoe B. Jackson Cancer research Center in Bar Harbor, Maine (Bak 128). According
to The Age of Automobiles , the demand of cars created a demand for more and longer roads. This
resulted in the first large scale concepts of highways. Along with highways came the conveniences
needed to accompany longer trips. These being gas stations, motels, and the first fast food shops. The
huge amount of cars that Ford and their competitors were putting out had to have these
accommodations or else sales wouldn t nearly be as high as they were. Geldermen also explained the
rise of the timber production, the surge of sawmills, the increase of freighters to carry the materials,
and the demand for glass work were due to the cars being produced. The Age of Automobiles also
suggests that vacationing and traveling increased productivity in places most visited. Understanding
how the Ford automotive company rose and fell can help see how the businesses were always
changing in the 1920 s and how a strong business can last for a very long time once a dedicated person
establishes it. Overall the Ford company almost always increased in size. The cars produced by this
company are still iconic in today s world and show a past of determination. Why walk when you can

Improving The Quality Of Healthcare Services
Introduction
In the United States the healthcare system is influenced by the cost and the quality of services
delivered to its citizens. The cost in healthcare refers to the services rendered, production or actual
money spent on services provided. Quality in healthcare is defined as measurable standard for services
provided. In healthcare, both the cost and quality are dependent on each other and the initiatives can
be regulated by a public or private agency.
Healthcare Agencies

The standards focus on important patient, individual, or resident care and organization functions that
are essential to providing safe, high quality care (Joint Commission,2017, Standars:para1). The Joint
Commission focuses on quality and efficiency to provide safe patient care. Ideally, the quality
measures are able to maintain the high standards without raising the costs of healthcare services.
Healthcare Initiatives
The Department of Health and Human Services has six quality strategy goals:
safer care by reducing harm caused in the delivery of care
strengthening the person and family engagement as partners in their care
promoting effective communication and coordination
promoting effective treatment of chronic disease
working with communities to promote best practices of living healthy living
making health care affordable (Department of Health and Human Services, 2016, Quality Card).
Through its Healthcare cost and utilization project the Department of Health and Human Services is
able to manage costs while simultaneously providing quality care. The project is a database and
related software tools that enables research on o broad range of health care issues, including cost and

Rwanda Genocide Essay
Imagine living a life of fear, turmoil, with death all around. Hearing gun shots being fired, death
chants, machete use, dead bodies everywhere. Afraid to close your eyes at night to rest, yet more
afraid to wake up in the morning. To sustain your life and the life of your loved ones you must hide
out, kill others, watch your neighbors be killed at the hands of the enemy. Knowing if you are caught
you could be forced to murder your own family, be raped, be held captive, be starved to death, and
most likely be killed. In 1994, this was the life many faced in Rwanda. Rwanda has become a
synonym for one of the worst genocides of the 20th century (Lemarchand, (n.d.), p. 483).
Rwanda is a small country located near the center of Africa. Kigali is the capital which is located in
the center of the country. In 1991, the population of Rwanda was 7.7 million, according to the national

Similarities Between Lord Of Flies And Lord Of The Flies
Living a life without any adults giving orders or making rules, not having to listen to them tell
everyone what to do or not to do sounds pretty marvelous. Many kids dream of living their own life
without their parents or other adults telling them what to do, however, oftentimes, we see their plan
backfire on themselves and they end up running to the parents, not knowing what to do. In the novel
The Lord of the Flies by William Golding, there is a plane crash, involving a group of boys not much
older than 12 years old. The plane crash takes place during World War II and the plane crashes onto an
island, stranding the boys by themselves, without any information or adults. In the film adaptation of
the novel The Mist by Stephen King, there is a mist that covers the town of Bridgton, trapping a group
of adults in a grocery store. The mist, what many people consider an apocalypse, takes place during
present times, in the state of Maine. [The novel The Lord of the Flies and the movie The Mist both
portray human nature as essentially evil and savage, all the same loyalty plays a key part in
influencing the decisions and actions of the characters of each story leading to some sections of
resemblance and some sections of discrepancies. Both passive and active, religion plays a role in both
stories, however while the same religious concept is in each story, there are many contrast between the
novel and the film adaptation.] The most advanced stage of the human nature is called

Warren Bennis, a renowned scholar in leadership studies said, Leadership is the capacity to translate
vision into reality. (Bennis, 2014) Widely regarded as one of the greatest Generals in U.S. military
history and one of the most important men of the 20th century, George C. Marshall was an
extraordinary visionary and ethical leader. In this paper I will first, cover how George Marshall used
his understanding of pressures for organizational change to transform the post WWI United States
Army and how his transformational leadership put his vision into action. Next I will cover how
George Marshall was an ethical leader through ethical behavior and how his fair mindedness helped
create and enact the Marshall Plan. Last, I will relate the principle of a visionary and ethical leader to
my personal relevance. George C. Marshall was a strategic visionary leader and an astute statesman.
When Marshall was appointed as the Chief of Staff of the Army in 1939 he knew that transforming the
Army at a time of volatile and uncertain environment was essential for survival . (Nelson, 1993) The

Stages Of Cellular Respiration In Plants
All of the following compounds are required at some stage of cellular respiration in plants, except
A. NAD.
B. sugar.
C. adenosine diphosphate.
D. oxygen.
E. carbon dioxide.
Cellular respiration occurs in both plant and animal cells. Both types of cells are very similar,
containing similar organelles such as the mitochondria. The mitochondria is the site of cellular
respiration, where glucose and oxygen can be used to produce ATP and carbon dioxide. In plant cells
energy is created through the process of photosynthesis, the conversion of energy from the sun into
chemical energy. Autotrophs are able to utilize photosynthesis to sustain themselves without
consuming food to obtain energy. The site of photosynthesis takes place in the cell s chloroplast
(Citovsky, Lecture 20). A large, concentrated portion of chloroplast can be found within the plant s
mesophyll, the interior of a leaf. Photosynthesis is broken down into two stages: light reactions and
the Calvin cycle. Through light reactions, solar energy can be converted into chemical energy
(Campbell, pg. 189). In the Calvin cycle, usable energy in the form of sugars are synthesized from
carbon dioxide.
Choice A NAD is incorrect. NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme which
functions as an intermediate for energy transport during cellular respiration (Citovsky, Lecture 18). In
the first phase of photosynthesis, light reactions, solar energy is converted into NADP+ (nicotinamide

Specialized Budget Analysis
In this paper we explore budgets in depth, the tools that help you make a comprehensive or a
specialized budget and why these may be necessary.
A budget can be thought of as a map towards a goal, such as retirement or saving for a particular items
such as a house or a car. Subsequently, making a budget gives us a tool to complete this goal and keep
us on track towards the end. Just as the financial planning process involves creating goals, budgets are
a means to make the goals a reality and not just a dream. (Siegel Yacht, 2009) One tool we learned
about of course is being conservative, others include the cash budget when our income is less
predictable, or a comprehensive budget which should include an operating budget and a capital
budget. Moreover, there are times a specialized budget might need to be created for a specific goal
such as a dream vacation or a tax ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other specialized budgets are generally created for a specific purpose such as a hobby or perhaps
taxes as Siegel Yacht, (2009) , explained. Moreover, these budgets are prepared with separate
expenses and perhaps even specific income set aside just for these budgets. ( Cash Budget and Other
Specialized Budgets, n.d.) The specialized budget is a part of the comprehensive budget and used to
make your dreams come true or just keep the tax man at bay as you will.
Finally, using the tools that we learned about in this chapter such as being conservative and taking the
time to create a comprehensive budget that includes a capital budget and specialized budgets as
needed, might be the ticket to buying that yacht to sail around the world just as Alice dreamed of.
Moreover, life can be unpredictable but having a good comprehensive budget can help us keep our
finances a little more stable, which can make difficult times and unexpected monetary expenses less

Analysis Of Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell Of Arms
World War I, also known as the Great War, was a war of courage, glory, and selflessness. A Farewell
to Arms, written by Ernest Hemingway, is a recollection of his war experiences. The protagonist, an
American Lieutenant named Fredric Henry, struggles to find the middle ground between his affair
with the beautiful and radiant Catherine Barkley and pursuing heroism in the Great War. The lovers
lives are turned upside down once they realize they are infatuated with each other. Like Lieutenant
Henry, when Hemingway was serving at the front, he was wounded, was decorated by the Italian
Government, and spent considerable time in hospitals (nobelprize.org). In the hospital, Henry grew
impatient because he could not immediately walk away from the facility and his problems.
Hemingway uses characterization to develop the people within the story as well as the underlining
motifs of loyalty, love, and masculinity. Lieutenant Fredric Henry traveled to Italy for the soul purpose
of participating in World War I and touring Italy. His intensions become less defined when he meets
Catherine Barkley. Hemingway draws the reader farther and farther into the novel with Fredric s
thoughts, and the beauty he sees within Catherine. Fredric quickly becomes involved in playing
innocent games with her. Catherine hints at the game, questioning if Fredric loved her. After he
responds with a lie, Catherine catches him off guard by replying, You don t have to pretend to love

Hierarchical Structure Of Religion Chapter 3 Summary

Christ created different ministries within His Church to benefit the Church and the ministers have
sacred powers and served the people in an orderly way, so that all may obtain salvation. This council
declares that Jesus set forth his Apostles and established His Church and willed the Bishops, who were
the successors of the Apostles, to shepherd his people until the end of the world. He put Peter in
charge and established a foundation of unity for the succession of the apostles and the succession of
Peter as the representative of Christ. Jesus called the disciples and put Peter in charge and before he

This also gave them helpers and ensured that the ministry would continue after their death. The
bishops, priests, and deacons serve the Church and shepherd the flock as teachers and just like the
office given to Peter is permanent, the office of the Bishops is permanent. The council says that the
bishops are like the Apostles and whoever hears the words of the bishops, are hearing Christ, and
whoever rejects their words, also rejects Christ. Through the Bishops, Christ is preaching the word of
God to all nations and is constantly administrating the sacraments to the believers. The bishops chosen
are the shepherds of the flock. The original Apostles passed on the gift of the Holy Spirit to their
successors through the laying on of hands. The sacred council teaches that this is the sacrament of
holy orders. This episcopal consecration confers the office of governing and teaching. This is how
bishops admit members into the episcopal body through the sacrament of holy orders. And just like
Peter and the Apostles had an apostolic college, the Pope, the successor of Peter and the Bishops, the
successor of apostles are joined as one body of unity. However the body of Bishops has no authority

primary and secondary human factors contributed towards the accident of Asiana Airlines Flight 214,
the use of online searches and NTSB reports will be examined. Asiana Airlines flight 214 is a
scheduled passenger flight from Incheon International Airport near Seoul, South Korea, to San
Francisco International Airport (SFO) in San Francisco, California, USA. On July 6th, 2013 on the
Saturday morning, the Boeing 777 200ER aircraft operating the flight, crashed when on a final
approach into SFO, when the airplane struck the seawall breaking the tail section of the plane. Of 307

Cost Analysis and sensitivity controlling factors
Number of units/TEU
In this specific case, the cost of Zaragoza might be higher than the Rotterdam option, however,
varying the number of units/TEU has an impact on this analysis.
If the number of units/TEU increases, the lesser holding cost of Zaragoza mitigates the higher
transportation cost of Zaragoza. Also, the transportation cost of Zaragoza comes down if the number
of units/TEU or number of units/Truckload increases.
Hence, the number of units/ TEU plays a pivotal role in considering which option to go with (with the
assumption rest all parameters remain same).
In our excel model we tried to determine the no: of units/TEU at which the cost of the Option 2
(Zaragoza) is lower than cost of option 1 (Rotterdam) by varying the number of units/TEU (J 13 cell
in excel model) and finding the influx point at which the cost difference becomes positive (E 69 cell in
excel model).
We found out that at the point of 1TEU = 443 units, the difference becomes positive .i.e Zaragoza
option becomes cheaper from this point onwards.

To What Extent To Different Concentrations Of Eucalyptus
To what extent to different concentrations of Eucalyptus microcorys (E. microcorys) at 0g/mL,
0.25g/mL, 0.5g/mL, 0.75g/mL and 1g/mL have an allelopathic effect on the germination of Raphanus
sativus (R. sativus) seeds as measured by the number of seeds germinated within seven days? Ecology
has been the study of different interactions amongst organisms with the abiotic environment (Pimm
and Smith, 2007), examining how ecosystems have thrived upon these relations. Ecosystems have
depended on the continued availability of energy supplied ultimately by plants through the process of
photosynthesis. Plants have lived in association with each other from having occupied the same niche

Although not every plant has contained allelopathic tendencies, these toxins can be located anywhere
on plants inclusive of roots, stems, bark, leaves, flowers and bearing fruits (Ferguson,
Rathinasabapathi and Chase, 2016). Nevertheless, there have been variations in allelochemical
concentrations within different parts of plants. For instance, eucalyptus foliar litter leachates have
been assessed to have been more toxic than bark leachates (Ferguson, Rathinasabapathi and Chase,
2016). Because of its invasive nature, there have been various applications of allelopathy within
horticultural practices. Particularly in the agriculture industry, specific allelopathic plants have been
researched to become potential natural, biodegradable herbicides against weeds, cultivators in crops
and growth regulators in large scale agroforestry manufacturing (Reza, 2016). A popular example of
this form of chemical warfare has been shown by the Black Walnut, a species native to eastern North
America. Conversely, in Australia, there have been numerous eucalyptus species have been
experimentally evaluated to have shown allelopathic behaviour towards other plant species, ordinarily
in volatilisation with shrouded vapourised volatile chemicals called terpenoids released within remote
outback bushlands (Külheim, Padovan, Hefer, Krause, Köllner, Myburg and Foley, 2015). Even from
a discernible observation, it has been evident in urbanised cities or municipalities that eucalyptus

World War 1 Total War Essay
2. Other than the fact that WW1 involved so many different nations, what else qualifies it as a total
war? Do you think this was the world s first total war? why or why not? Total war is defined as
conflict in which the contenders are willing to make any sacrifice in lives and other resources to obtain
a complete victory (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2018). In August 01, 1914, Austria Hungary declared
war on Serbia after the heir to the throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and his wife Sophie of Austria
were assassinated by Gavrilo Princip, of Serbian decent. This atrocious and inhuman act of violence
was the one to fuel both imperialism and nationalism coming together and fueling nations into war
(Pavlac 322). Shortly after war began, nations around the world began to align themselves with one
another as means to protect themselves. In one end you had the Triple alliance created by Chancellor
Bismarck that aimed to preserve the newly united Germany from French revenge . On the other Triple
Entente: France, Great Britain, and Russia united. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believed that he could influence and change the world by remaining neutral . The idea of neutrality
was then obscured by actions committed by the German military when one of their torpedoes sank and
killed passengers aboard the Lusitania. The British liner en route to Liverpool, England carried more
than 1900 passengers and crew members on board, killing 120 Americans (1915, 2018). Although the
US could supply nations with food and artillery because it remained neutral this event brought the war
closer to home. The oceans could no longer be used to transport goods and people without safety. And
nearly two years after war broke, President Wilson formally entered WWI. It is argued that the sinking

Lord of the Flies Comparative Essay (Film vs Book)
Lord of the Flies comparative essay
The novel, Lord of the Flies by William Golding was published in 1954. It s the story of a group of
boys stranded on an island with no adults. Since then, it has had two film adaptions. The first adaption
was produced in 1963, directed by the Englishman Peter Brook. This version was filmed in black and
white and follows the events of the book very closely. The second adaption came twenty seven years
later in 1990, which was directed by the American Harry Hook. The second adaption did not quite
follow the novel in terms of symbolism, the beast and the overall theme while the first adaption was
more faithful to the novel.

This film was made by an English director, and its cast was entirely English. By having an English
cast, it truly represents the novel in the sense of nationality. All the characters in the novel were well
represented accurately in the film. Compared to American films, English films are more subtle in their
film making. They will not show you the whole picture, but they will hint towards it. In the film, it is
only hinted that Wilfred was hurt by Jack s tribe, but never shown or confirmed.
Peter Brook is the director of the 1963 version of Lord of the Flies. He used many different cinematic
features in his film. The montage at the beginning of the film was expertly used to show the contrast
between the innocence of the schoolboys, to the evil of war and destruction with the images of rockets
and explosions. The montage explains how the plane crashed, with images of a plane entering huge,
dark clouds. This was followed by images of lighting and the sounds of thunder. During the montage,
there is a choir singing a Greek song which is called Lord have Mercy. This is an ominous hint that
that something will go horribly wrong on the island. To show the thoughts of his characters, Peter
Brook used actions to convey thoughts. When Ralph is talking at an assembly, the sound of wood
being hacked at is heard. It is revealed that Jack is hacking at his spear with a knife. This conveys the
thoughts of Jack, it shows the violence and savagery that he will be apart

Examining The ChrysanthemumS The Lottery
Examining The Chrysanthemums The Lottery
In the WWII period, women entered the workforce is massive numbers a statistical anomaly that had
never existed in American society or hardly any other modern society, ever. They became empowered
and more women realized a wider range of their capabilities. A few decades after WWII, the feminist
movement would rise to change the course of women s history again. The success and fervor of the
feminist movement would not have been as potent or active without the change in experience for
women in the preceding decades. It is within some of these social and historical contexts which the
paper will consider the protagonist, Elisa Allen. The Chrysanthemums precedes WWII and the
beginning of another change in the culture of women by just a few years. Elisa Allen is a figure for the
foreshadowing of the future of American women. The paper considers how Steinbeck demonstrates
her spatial and metaphorical confinement via literary structures, characterization, and narrative arc.
The environment is a revealing metaphor or symbol in the story. It is sometimes a prominent aspect,
and sometimes subtle. Just as the fog rolled in during the winter of a nearly desolate ranch, so does a
storm or a fog of change approach for Elisa, as a figure for American women as the midway point of
the 20th century approached.

Language Assessment And Language Proficiency
Language Assessment and Language Proficiency Standard There are three main goals in teaching
English as a second language. These goals are: To use English to communicate in social settings, to
use English to achieve academically in all content areas and to use English in socially and culturally
appropriate ways (Short, 2000). With these goals in mind, language proficiency standards (LPS) have
been developed to help insructors achieve the highest level of ESL instruction. The Educate America
Act of the early 1990 s fostered a movement among professional education associations to develop
standards for specific academic content areas (Short, 2000). These national standards were for federal
and state insitutions to have guidelines in designing curriculum and assessments. Also these standards
would help promote the professional develop of teachers.
How do assessments based on language proficiency standards promote language learning? According
to the Center for Adult English Language Acquisition (CAELA) assessments are defined as , The use
of instruments and procedures to gather data on a regular basis for such purposes as identifying
learners needs, documenting learners progress, or determining how program services are meeting
learners needs (CAELA, 2015). Assessments are used to help instructors evaluate how effective their
teaching methods are, to help students know how much information they have obtained and to inform

Encryption Is The Mechanism Of Encoding Data
In a VPN, computers at the ends of the tunnel encrypt data entering the tunnel and decrypt data at the
other end. Encryption is the mechanism of encoding data so that only a device with the correct
decoder will know how to read and use it. Over time, new and better technologies have been
developed to use in networks, which improves the characteristics of VPNs. However, VPN specific
technologies like tunneling protocols, haven t changed much, because current VPNs do an excellent
job at keeping businesses globally connected, with a high level of security. Flexible working
Geographical barriers of companies can be erased with the implementation of VPN. This will enable
employees to work efficiently from home and allow businesses to connect securely with its vendors
and partners. Many organisations started by establishing intranets, which are private internal networks
designed for use only by company employees. By adding a VPN, a business can extend all its intranet
s resources to employees working from remote offices or their homes. Scalability Well designed VPNs
are extensible and scalable. The technology allows its adopters to use an easy to access Internet
infrastructure that grants new users to be added to the network quickly and with no hassle. This means
that organisations are able to acquire large amounts of capacity and usage with adding little or none
additional infrastructure. VPN can in fact expand to accommodate more users and different locations

Basic Parameters That Affect The Performance
7. Basic Parameters That Affect The Performance in RTOS
7.1 Multi tasking and preemptable:
In RTOS the system have to be multitasking and preemptable because those two features make the
RTOS Scheduler end any lower priority task to execute the higher ones or to release some resources
for other tasks that urgently need those resources. Also the system have to handle different level of
priorities of interrupts.(Yerraballi,R. 2000)
7.2 Dynamic deadline identification:
In some scheduling algorithms such as (EDF)the deadline is converted to priority levels. Then we can
control priorities by controlling the deadlines. Although such an approach is error prone, nonetheless it
is employed for lack of a better solution (Buttazzo, 2005).
7.3 Predictable synchronization:
The threads of the system need to communication and to be synchronized in a timely efficient and
predictable way.
7.4 Sufficient Priority Levels:
In the scheduling algorithms based on priorities. There must be enough levels of priorities. Priority
inversion occur when a low level priority hold the resource that the the high level priority is waiting
for or blocked due to this resource, and the lower priority is delayed because low priority task. Two
workarounds in dealing with priority inversion, namely priority inheritance and priority ceiling
protocols (PCP), need sufficient priority levels.
7.5 Predefined latencies:
The timing of the systems must be predictable and this is done by defining task switching

How Would Fenris To Come Lonely
Fenris would never admit to getting lonely.
It happened rarely. He d return to his decrepit mansion after a long day of murdering various groups of
slavers, bandits, and other terrible people preying on those who can t defend themselves with Hawke,
and he d finally have time to himself. He d never admit it, but he hated it. After spending the entire
day with those people, only to come home and be reminded that he is truly alone... sometimes, he
couldn t fight the loneliness that crept inside him like a parasite. He d have to find a way to calm
himself, or he would break.
Tonight was one of these nights.
He hadn t been home two hours when he started feeling anxious. He paced, back and forth in his
bedroom, fidgeting with the gauntlets he hadn t bothered to remove yet. He knew he d never be able to
sleep in this state, and working on his reading and writing skills didn t seem to be much of an option
either. Slowly, he worked through his options in his head. He could get drunk, or go for a walk, or
work on fixing some of the more uncomfortable issues with the mansion... he hated all of those ideas.
He wanted to talk to someone, just for a little while. Just to remind himself that he isn t completely
alone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hawke would be his first choice, but he was certain that the mage, Anders, would be at the estate; he
was looking for a simple conversation, not a potentially violent argument. He knew that Varric was

night. Isabela was an option, but he knew that she d have a completely different idea of how the night
should go. That left only one option:

Checks And Balances Did Not Work Well During The Watergate...
Watergate Affair The system of checks and balances did not work well during the Watergate affair.
The president was not sent to prison and Gerald Ford became the president when he shouldn t have
but the part that went well was when Nixon got caught and resigned. The president got away with the
crime when others who were involved did not. To begin with, the system of checks and balances did
not work well during the Watergate affair because the president was not sent to prison after trying to
spy on the democratic party to find misleading information against them to win the reelection. This
wasn t the first time that his workers attempted to do this. On May, 11,1972 Nixon s worker broke into
the offices at Watergate, took photos of hidden documents and placed wiretaps on phones. They got

Ford was replaced by Nixon after the vice president resigned. This shows that Nixon wanted Ford to
be president so that he can prevent him from going to prison. Document 5 indicates that Mr.Ford
should not have been the president because Nixon placed him there and the next president after Nixon
should be elected. This means the checks and balances failed because Ford became the president
without any election and freed Nixon from his crime. The audience in document 5 is the citizens of
United States. On the other hand, document 3 contradicts document 5 because the author demonstrates
that it s good that Ford became the president or else there would have been a violent revolution but the
author is ignoring that Ford was the one who gave a petition to Nixon. The purpose of document 3 is
to say that it s good that America has a vice president and that no other country has it and when the
president resigns we can use the vice president so that there will be no violence on the

  • 2. The Between Inductivist And Popper s Points Of View Of... The following essay aims to discuss the inconsistencies between the inductivist and Popper s points of view of science rationality of science in light of claims that the scientific method is inductive yet an inductive method is no. I think is rational to say that inductivist view of science has significant contradiction that Popper s view solves. To support Popper s view my argument will introduce the inductivist and falsificationsist views and I will focus in showing the issues of considered science as objective, scientific knowledge as proven and nature as uniform as well as the differences between inductivism and falsificationism to the creation of hypothesis. The main view of the statement seeing scientific knowledge as proof relays in the assumption that scientific reasoning is inductive. Therefore, as first point I will introduce the main statement of inductivism. The principle of induction states scientific method relays in the objective observation as the basis for the foundation of laws and theories without the influence of subjectivisms such as opinions and beliefs, for this uses the observation of particular statements to the creation of general statements. Furthermore, inductivism assumes that nature will always be uniform, thus infers from past patterns to the creation of hypothesis and laws. Finally, inductivism sees scientific knowledge as proven knowledge. Secondly I will introduce the Popper s view known as falsificationism and its inconsistencies with ... • 3. The Prestige Analysis The Prestige Analysis The Prestige is a film adaptation of the Christopher Priest novel bearing the same name. The story is set in the turn of the century London about two stage magicians, their rivalry, and their obsession to be the best with the artistry and secrecy of illusion. The analysis of The Prestige will examine several aspects of the film including plot, character development, use of sound, use of photography, set design, lighting, and role of the collaborators. Each of these areas is important to create the emotion, suspense, and energy for a successful and entertaining film. The Plot The filmmakers introduce a man who designs the equipment to pull off the illusions. The magic of a successful illusion consists of three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other key characters include Mr. Cutter, Sarah Borden, and Olivia Wenscombe. Mr. Cutter, the engineer that designs the mechanical devices used for the illusions, tells the story leading up to the death of Mr. Angier and Mr. Borden. Sarah Borden, Alfred Borden s wife, displays confusion over the on again, off again love received by Mr. Borden. Throughout the film, she expresses this confusion by telling Alfred, Today, it s true, or Today, you don t mean it (Nolan, Ryder, and Thomas). She believes on some days, his love of magic is greater than his love for her. Olivia Wenscombe, Mr. Angier s assistant and later Mr. Borden s mistress, represented a woman who loved the attention of the stage. Her outgoing personality embodied through her clothing and her dialogue. The Use of Sound Even though the film is essentially a visual experience, the use of sound has become extremely important in modern film. The modern viewer hears a complicated soundtrack that is as meaningful as the image on the screen. Three elements comprise the film s soundtrack: the dialogue, the sound effects, and the musical score. The proper balance and mix of these elements produced the essential emphasis required, which created the desired effects. As explained by Joseph Boggs and Dennis Petrie, Because we are more consciously aware of what we see than what we hear, we generally accept the soundtrack without much thought, responding intuitively to the ... • 4. The United States Law Enforcement Essay Law enforcement goes as far back as to cave dwellers, if it was not for England, the United States would be at a lost for policing. The United States uses the consensus and conflict theories to help the American people have a better understanding of human behavior and its limits. There are many types of policing that were identified and it is the law enforcement officers job to protect and sever and to deliver criminals into the hands of the law. If it was not for law enforcement officers, the community would be a disaster. When the development in urban England began, the town started forming commerce, industry, and a variety of buildings usually made of wood because England was primarily forest land (Hess, 2013; p. 10). The town guild appointed men to use the Watch and Ward system because of fire prevention purposes and it was assumed those men s job was to also prevent people from breaking into houses and shops (Hess, 2013; p.10). These appointed men became known as the watchmen. The Watch and Ward system was suitable until the Industrial Revolution began because famine began to strike rural areas, and large amounts of people moved into the town to find work such as weaving and knitting mill and in factories (Hess, 2013; p. 10). The large groups of people that moved in to the town were unable to find work, and therefore started creating mobs to march on Parliament (Hess, 2013; p. 10). The government had no civil police force to deal with mob violence, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personal barriers: These are barriers that are imposed by the personality and culture o the persons participating in the communication. These barriers are found both in vertical and horizontal communications. These barriers are further sub divided into: 1) Barriers with superiors: This when the superiors feel that there may be a challenge to their position and authority. This is when the superiors are not confident in their ability and fear that any communication with their juniors could lead to their deficiencies being exposed. Another problem arises when the superior has little or no confidence in the capabilities of his or her sub ordinates. This leads to them ignoring any suggestions and communications made by their sub ordinates. 2) Barriers with sub ordinates: These are due to reasons like the unwillingness to communicate any negative information since there is a fear that it may reflect on their performance. While it also bothers Jessica because people always look at her stump as she calls it. These two examples show how similar they are while facing reality. • 8. Security of the Political and Social Position of the... Security of the Political and Social Position of the Nobility in Early Modern Europe The nobility of early modern Europe were descended on the whole from the mounted knights of medieval armies who had been granted land along with social and political privileges and had subsequently formed a higher social class. Between 1500 1789 the status of the aristocracy came under threat both politically and socially. The rise of absolutism within the monarchies of Europe led to the desire of governments to reduce noble power and bypass several of their privileges in order to increase state revenue and centralise governmental control. Thirdly the nobility experienced a crisis of identity and a loss of purpose as their status decreased and there was a general relaxation of reverence [3]. The exercise of arms had been an intrinsic element in proving a noble s worth but after 1500 letters were often disassociated from arms and proved a far more certain road to wealth and nobility that the life of the warrior [4] and an education became as important as military prowess had been previously. This is another example of the nobility being forced to adapt to the social pressures of the period. As the middle classes grew they forced the nobility to change its outlook and modernise to keep up with the rest of society or become diminished and backwards. Educational standards also enabled the nobles to be judged by the universal standards of achievement rather than birth [5]. This demonstrates the changing attitudes of the lower classes as they began to require justification of the nobility s high status. The nobility s high social position was confirmed by their privileges, which firmly distinguished noble from commoner [6]. These included fiscal advantages, such as being exempt from taxation, judicial privileges, their exclusion from menial work within state service, their political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Henry Ford Industry Research Paper Henry Ford and the Expansion of the Ford Industry Ford, the name almost every person in America associates with the successful car industry. However, not everyone understands how Henry Ford made the world wide business as we see it today. Nearly a century ago Henry Ford and his son Edsel procured blazing success for the Ford car industry from 1920 to 1924, to end up re nurturing the flickering flame from 1925 to 1929, while also benefiting and promoting other industries of the time. When the Ford company entered the 1920 s, they were struggling to get past financial difficulties. To buy out minority stockholders and to begin work on a new factory on the Rouge, Ford had to take out a sixty million dollar loan. The deadline for repaying this ... Edsel invested his time and money in ventures that he thought would benefit others, including the Roscoe B. Jackson Cancer research Center in Bar Harbor, Maine (Bak 128). According to The Age of Automobiles , the demand of cars created a demand for more and longer roads. This resulted in the first large scale concepts of highways. Along with highways came the conveniences needed to accompany longer trips. These being gas stations, motels, and the first fast food shops. The huge amount of cars that Ford and their competitors were putting out had to have these accommodations or else sales wouldn t nearly be as high as they were. Geldermen also explained the rise of the timber production, the surge of sawmills, the increase of freighters to carry the materials, and the demand for glass work were due to the cars being produced. The Age of Automobiles also suggests that vacationing and traveling increased productivity in places most visited. Understanding how the Ford automotive company rose and fell can help see how the businesses were always changing in the 1920 s and how a strong business can last for a very long time once a dedicated person establishes it. Overall the Ford company almost always increased in size. The cars produced by this company are still iconic in today s world and show a past of determination. Why walk when you can ... To sustain your life and the life of your loved ones you must hide out, kill others, watch your neighbors be killed at the hands of the enemy. Knowing if you are caught you could be forced to murder your own family, be raped, be held captive, be starved to death, and most likely be killed. In 1994, this was the life many faced in Rwanda. Rwanda has become a synonym for one of the worst genocides of the 20th century (Lemarchand, (n.d.), p. 483). Rwanda is a small country located near the center of Africa. Kigali is the capital which is located in the center of the country. In 1991, the population of Rwanda was 7.7 million, according to the national census. Rwanda was made up of three ethnic groups 90 percent of the population was Hutu, 9 percent was Tutsi, and 1 percent was Twa (Worldwithoutgenocide.org, 2013). • 15. Similarities Between Lord Of Flies And Lord Of The Flies Living a life without any adults giving orders or making rules, not having to listen to them tell everyone what to do or not to do sounds pretty marvelous. Many kids dream of living their own life without their parents or other adults telling them what to do, however, oftentimes, we see their plan backfire on themselves and they end up running to the parents, not knowing what to do. In the novel The Lord of the Flies by William Golding, there is a plane crash, involving a group of boys not much older than 12 years old. The plane crash takes place during World War II and the plane crashes onto an island, stranding the boys by themselves, without any information or adults. In the film adaptation of the novel The Mist by Stephen King, there is a mist that covers the town of Bridgton, trapping a group of adults in a grocery store. The mist, what many people consider an apocalypse, takes place during present times, in the state of Maine. [The novel The Lord of the Flies and the movie The Mist both portray human nature as essentially evil and savage, all the same loyalty plays a key part in influencing the decisions and actions of the characters of each story leading to some sections of resemblance and some sections of discrepancies. Both passive and active, religion plays a role in both stories, however while the same religious concept is in each story, there are many contrast between the novel and the film adaptation.] The most advanced stage of the human nature is called ... (Bennis, 2014) Widely regarded as one of the greatest Generals in U.S. military history and one of the most important men of the 20th century, George C. Marshall was an extraordinary visionary and ethical leader. In this paper I will first, cover how George Marshall used his understanding of pressures for organizational change to transform the post WWI United States Army and how his transformational leadership put his vision into action. Next I will cover how George Marshall was an ethical leader through ethical behavior and how his fair mindedness helped create and enact the Marshall Plan. Last, I will relate the principle of a visionary and ethical leader to my personal relevance. George C. Marshall was a strategic visionary leader and an astute statesman. When Marshall was appointed as the Chief of Staff of the Army in 1939 he knew that transforming the Army at a time of volatile and uncertain environment was essential for survival . • 17. Stages Of Cellular Respiration In Plants All of the following compounds are required at some stage of cellular respiration in plants, except A. NAD. B. sugar. C. adenosine diphosphate. D. oxygen. E. carbon dioxide. Cellular respiration occurs in both plant and animal cells. Both types of cells are very similar, containing similar organelles such as the mitochondria. The mitochondria is the site of cellular respiration, where glucose and oxygen can be used to produce ATP and carbon dioxide. In plant cells energy is created through the process of photosynthesis, the conversion of energy from the sun into chemical energy. Autotrophs are able to utilize photosynthesis to sustain themselves without consuming food to obtain energy. The site of photosynthesis takes place in the cell s chloroplast (Citovsky, Lecture 20). A large, concentrated portion of chloroplast can be found within the plant s mesophyll, the interior of a leaf. Photosynthesis is broken down into two stages: light reactions and the Calvin cycle. Through light reactions, solar energy can be converted into chemical energy (Campbell, pg. 189). In the Calvin cycle, usable energy in the form of sugars are synthesized from carbon dioxide. Choice A NAD is incorrect. NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme which functions as an intermediate for energy transport during cellular respiration (Citovsky, Lecture 18). In the first phase of photosynthesis, light reactions, solar energy is converted into NADP+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Specialized Budget Analysis In this paper we explore budgets in depth, the tools that help you make a comprehensive or a specialized budget and why these may be necessary. A budget can be thought of as a map towards a goal, such as retirement or saving for a particular items such as a house or a car. Subsequently, making a budget gives us a tool to complete this goal and keep us on track towards the end. Just as the financial planning process involves creating goals, budgets are a means to make the goals a reality and not just a dream. (Siegel Yacht, 2009) One tool we learned about of course is being conservative, others include the cash budget when our income is less predictable, or a comprehensive budget which should include an operating budget and a capital budget. Moreover, there are times a specialized budget might need to be created for a specific goal such as a dream vacation or a tax ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The specialized budget is a part of the comprehensive budget and used to make your dreams come true or just keep the tax man at bay as you will. Finally, using the tools that we learned about in this chapter such as being conservative and taking the time to create a comprehensive budget that includes a capital budget and specialized budgets as needed, might be the ticket to buying that yacht to sail around the world just as Alice dreamed of. • 19. Analysis Of Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell Of Arms World War I, also known as the Great War, was a war of courage, glory, and selflessness. A Farewell to Arms, written by Ernest Hemingway, is a recollection of his war experiences. The protagonist, an American Lieutenant named Fredric Henry, struggles to find the middle ground between his affair with the beautiful and radiant Catherine Barkley and pursuing heroism in the Great War. The lovers lives are turned upside down once they realize they are infatuated with each other. Like Lieutenant Henry, when Hemingway was serving at the front, he was wounded, was decorated by the Italian Government, and spent considerable time in hospitals (nobelprize.org). In the hospital, Henry grew impatient because he could not immediately walk away from the facility and his problems. Hemingway uses characterization to develop the people within the story as well as the underlining motifs of loyalty, love, and masculinity. Lieutenant Fredric Henry traveled to Italy for the soul purpose of participating in World War I and touring Italy. His intensions become less defined when he meets Catherine Barkley. Hemingway draws the reader farther and farther into the novel with Fredric s thoughts, and the beauty he sees within Catherine. Fredric quickly becomes involved in playing innocent games with her. Catherine hints at the game, questioning if Fredric loved her. After he responds with a lie, Catherine catches him off guard by replying, You don t have to pretend to love me. That s over for the ... Through the Bishops, Christ is preaching the word of God to all nations and is constantly administrating the sacraments to the believers. The bishops chosen are the shepherds of the flock. • 23. In this specific case, the cost of Zaragoza might be higher than the Rotterdam option, however, varying the number of units/TEU has an impact on this analysis. If the number of units/TEU increases, the lesser holding cost of Zaragoza mitigates the higher transportation cost of Zaragoza. Also, the transportation cost of Zaragoza comes down if the number of units/TEU or number of units/Truckload increases. Hence, the number of units/ TEU plays a pivotal role in considering which option to go with (with the assumption rest all parameters remain same). In our excel model we tried to determine the no: of units/TEU at which the cost of the Option 2 (Zaragoza) is lower than cost of option 1 (Rotterdam) by varying the number of units/TEU (J 13 cell in excel model) and finding the influx point at which the cost difference becomes positive (E 69 cell in excel model). Also the system have to handle different level of priorities of interrupts.(Yerraballi,R. 2000) 7.2 Dynamic deadline identification: In some scheduling algorithms such as (EDF)the deadline is converted to priority levels. There must be enough levels of priorities. Priority inversion occur when a low level priority hold the resource that the the high level priority is waiting for or blocked due to this resource, and the lower priority is delayed because low priority task.
