A Twist on Homer s Odyssey
Dear Alexandra, O my lady, I miss so you. I know it has been years since I have seen you last, but I
want you to know that my travels with the heroic Odysseus has gone terrible. I have done horrific
things that I hope you can forgive. Everything was fine until our sail home from Troy, where we all
acted like reckless fools and all hell broke loose. We have been cursed by the gods Zeus and Poseidon
and now I m afraid that this letter will be my last. On our way home to Ithaca, the winds blew us to the
land of Ismarus. I was stored on wine, drunk, so drunk I can only remember the evil have done.
Picking fights with the Cicones, raping innocent women, killing innocent men. I try to tell myself I
was young, it wasn t my fault and it was the vicious vine that made me do all those horrible things,
but, deep down I knew what I had done was horrendous and ungodly as well as unforgivable. If only I
had listen to wise Odysseus call. I believe it was Back, and quickly! Out to sea again. But none of us
warriors dared to listen. All we want to do is party and raid this poor city. As a result the god Zeus
cursed us, our evil days punishing of group with the great lost of men. We fought out of pure anger
fighting a battle that had not been need. That s when things went good to bad. After losing dozen of
men in the battle on Ismarus, we stopped out to a land of the Cyclops after the Poseidon broke up our
ship. The warriors left were Odysseus, his second in command Eurylochus, my close

Essay About Coliseum
Even over my own radio, I could hear the sound of worship music blaring from the car next to me as
we both waited to turn into the Bojangles Coliseum parking lot. We had made little progress in
roughly 10 minutes, moving forward inch by inch until being halted once again by the police officers
directing the traffic. The car had two women, looking to be in their 40s, sitting in the driver and
passenger talking with smiles on their faces. After finally making it into the actual parking lot, I
walked to the Coliseum with others making the trek. There were predominantly women, many looking
to be in their 40s or 50s but also many in their 20s or 30s. It was a chilly evening, and by the time we
finally reached the antechamber with the security ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One woman was selecting a scoop of ice cream, as her friends endearingly mocked her for eating a
cold dessert when it was cold outside. There were not only lines for food, but for the restroom as well.
The line for the women s bathroom already extended 14 people out from the restroom area itself. As
women waited in line, many others walking by stopped to talk pictures with the larger than life picture
of Joyce on a sign saying Welcome! I m so glad you re here . The sign also featured an arrow directing
people to the Resources section. Groups of women and individuals smiled as they posed next to Joyce
before heading into the arena itself to select their seats.
Inside the arena, the floor seating was close to full, with more people making their way higher and
higher up the sides. At the front of the floor seating area, the stage was lit with light purple and darker
blue spotlights as screens to either side read out Welcome Charlotte . I found a seat in the far left
seating section directly across from the stage, climbing up to where an open row was available. As I
entered the seating section, an usher handed me two offering envelopes. When I said I only needed
one, she firmly insisted that I keep them both with a smile.
My row of 7 seats was empty, but there was a man and woman seated together in the row ahead, a pair
of women seated down from them, and a group of women taking up the rows behind me. The man and
woman directly in front of me took a selfie,

William Shakespeare Character Analysis
I m a huge nerd about Shakespeare.William Shakespeare is someone who has had a profound impact
upon the consciousness and culture of the entire English speaking world. His plays are the foundation
for some of the greatest movies and TV shows that we have including many of our english words and
many phrases and ideas that we commonly use come directly from Shakespeare. However, there are
many who wonder who he really is and many people speculate that the man they call William
Shakespeare is not actually the author of the plays and sonnets attributed to his name. I do not agree
and I am in firm belief that William Shakespeare is the one who wrote the plays.
William Shakespeare as we know him was born in Stratford, a village on the Avon river in the county
of Warwickshire in England. We have no actual records of when he was born, however we do have a
record of when he was baptized, which was on April 26 1564. He was the eldest surviving son of a
glove maker, John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. At the age of eighteen he married Anne Hathaway
and until 1592, when he resurfaced again in the London theatre scene.
The first point of evidence in the authorship conflict is that Shakespeare s name is on the plays and
poems he wrote. Tom Kathman and David Reedy point this out in their book. How We Know That
Shakespeare Wrote Shakespeare: The Historical Facts. In 1593, the narrative poem Venus and Adonis
was published by Stratford native Richard Field, with a dedication to the Earl of

Levinas vis-à-vis the Other Essay
Levinas vis à vis the Other
Philosophy, arising from its Greek tradition of a love of wisdom , seeks to critically examine those
questions most fundamental to humankind; it is concerned with essential concepts (or rather,
questions) of being (metaphysics), rightness and goodness, knowledge, truth and beauty. As a branch
of metaphysics, ontology seeks, in particular, to understand the nature of being (or existence) by
placing objects within categories and organized totalities, while always assuming God as the first
cause (causa sui). (Rebidoux) Yet as most philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle and Descartes each
attest to their distinct definition of being , there is an exception to these ontological contenders:
Emmanuel Levinas. By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before evaluating Levinas humanity opening theories, however, it seems necessary to understand the
process by which one can come to know the initial Other. For before the subject can enter into a just,
fraternal relationship with the Other, he must be wholly prepared to welcome its face. According to
Levinas, before encountering the Other, one is in a sleeping state within the Order of Being. Mundane
and superficial, this Order allows only for categorization and objectification of things. At this stage
even animate objects are reduced to their formal properties: a cat, for example, is classified according
to its genus and species, recognized only as one instance of cat ; a human, similarly, is reduced simply
to another instance of humanity. (Rebidoux, 26 Jan 2004)
It is from this state of perpetual sleep, Levinas orders, that one must awaken. Whilst sleeping within
the Order of Being, one is instinctually awoken by the Infinite. This Infinite, according to Levinas, is a
consciousness that occurs in revelation of the transcendence of the Other. (Rebidoux) The Infinite
emerge as an appearance of unending depth that overflows both

Employment Restrictions on Illegal Aliens
Abstract
Throughout this essay, my findings on how employment regulations and restrictions impact jobs for
illegal immigrants will be discussed. My evidence and research of whether employment restrictions on
illegal aliens should be heightened or not will also be conversed as well. The overall essay will go into
some depth of what the employment restrictions are and how illegal aliens are being handled today.
Writings and graphics i.e. charts will also be used as evidence to argue for the claim. The sources that
were used to construct this essay, such as the Pew for Hispanic Research, will be cited and referenced
multiple times throughout the course of the paper.

Wendat Attributes In The Orenda
The blame game, described as someone assigning blame to others rather than finding a solution. This
game is a great way to try and fault others for one s own mistakes. In the book, The Orenda written by
Joseph Boyden, it is described how the aboriginal people of the Wendat became extirpated by their
enemies because of their own inadequacies. Throughout the course of the book, the Wendat make
awful decisions and because of such decisions the wendat nation becomes extinct. The Wendat are
prideful and some refuse to seek help even in the most desperate of times. The Wendat choose to
ignore the dreams of their people and the prophecies. The Wendat are also extremely greedy, their

Fox says, I d rather die naked and freezing than come here for protection (Boyden, pg 354) which
shows that Fox would rather die with absolutely nothing then live with the crows, their allies. In what
world does one not ask or accept help from their allies? Obviously in a proud and arrogant one. After
the Wendat had been decimated by the smallpox outbreak, they kept to themselves even more than
before. Another example of how the Wendat s pride causes issues is when Bird is negotiating peace
with the Iroquois he loses the Wampum. Instead of asking for forgiveness, he decides to go into battle.
Bird states, our story meant for these people who are our enemy, has been lost...I now know that the
course we are on...is a course of warfare. (Boyden, page 108) Bird does not even consider reasoning
with them or holding negotiations. The Wendat pride has caused its people many issues and ultimately
their own unfortunate demise. Though the Wendat were not solely responsible for their extirpation,
they played a large part of what happened to them because of how they were arrogant and chose to
disrespect those who wished to help them. Another factor that led to the demise of the Wendat people
is because they chose to ignore the pleas of their people and the prophetic dreams that warned them.
They also became entranced by the wealth the Europeans had to offer, so much so that they began to
shape their way of life around it. With all the problems the Wendat faced, it is a miracle that there are

Misconceptions Of NASA
One of the biggest misconceptions of NASA is the idea of a homogeneous organization. NASA is, in
fact, a conglomeration of different groups with various aims. Sometimes these groups can be at odds
with each other over various organizational resources. The nature of space operations split these
groups within NASA into two general categories: the Human Destiny camp with human spaceflight
and colonization of space as the ultimate goal and the Science in Space camp focused on using robotic
spaceflight to perform space science.
Spaceflight has a difficulty holding public attention, but robotic spaceflight has a much more difficult
time compared to human spaceflight. Even now regardless of having no active capability other than

The Dangers Of Cockfighting In Bali
When one thinks of Bali, one will most possibly envision the white sand beaches, clear blue skies,
calming water and the huge number of Western tourists there. Chances that one will jump into the idea
of cockfighting in Bali villages would probably be very low. Cockfighting plays a pivotal role in the
life of numerous Balinese men. As Geertz (2005), an American anthropologist suggested, cockfighting
is considered as a part of The Balinese Way of Life . A cockfight, in a straightforward explanation,
means a fight between two roosters in a caged ring until one of them dies for the amusement of
spectators (PETA, n.d.). However, to Balinese men, it means so much more than this it is an obsession
that has been passed down through generations.
Every year in Bali, there will be legal large scale cockfights in almost every village of Bali. This
precedes the renowned public holiday in Bali called Nyepi, where people in Bali are not allowed to go
out of their houses and even have to turn off the lights when they are indoors. This is done in order to
avoid contacts with influx of demons that are chased out of hell for an instant moment (Geertz, 2005).

sacrifice offerings to assuage the demons hunger. After harvesting crops, one would usually need to
sacrifice the roosters before digging the soil, as it is regarded as Bali villages adat or local law, which
demands sacrifices to be made for good harvests (The Jakarta Post,

The Mental Health Counseling Is A Field Of Great...
Clinical Mental Health counseling is a field of great opportunity and great responsibility. When
counselees walk into the therapist s office, they are often at one of the lowest points of their lives,
bringing with them a lifetime of hurts, questions, and crises. The counselor s view of the Gospel must
be full enough to encompass the life of the hurting person. In those moments, a counselor will rely on
years of hard work and discipline to make decisions that impact a person for life. A counselor must be
prepared to do everything right yet still have the client walk away gaining nothing. Biblical counseling
requires excellence in mind, personal discipline, and compassion, driven by a desire to glorify God
and faith in His grace and sovereignty. There is nothing like Biblical counseling to see the Gospel
work.

Swot Analysis Of Jim Sinegal s Idea For A New Business
Synthesis Essay Jim Sinegal
MSgt Ryan P. McCauley
Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy
November 5, 2014
Instructor: HptFw Rainer Lichtsinn
Jim Sinegal
In 1983, Jim Sinegal s idea for a new business was a place where there were no signs identifying isles,
no advertising, no way for customers to bag their purchases, and before customers would be allowed
to shop, they had to pay an annual fee. That business is Costco and during Jim s 30 years as founder
and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), he grew that business into the fourth largest retailer in the
country. Looking back on the legacy Jim left behind when he retired, it is clear that Jim is one of the
most visionary and ethical leaders of our modern times. First, we will look at how Jim implemented
his vision while demonstrating idealized influence by setting aside his self interests and gaining the
trust of the customer for the good of the company. Then we will explore Costco s code of ethics that
employs Dr. Toner s principles of owing, ordering, and oughting. Finally, we will explore how Jim s
leadership style has impacted me and influenced my leadership.
Visionary Leader
Jim Sinegal was a visionary leader as demonstrated by his departure from the generally accepted retail
business practices in favor of a transformational leadership style that gained the trust of his customers.
Jim founded Costco with the idea that no product would be marked up by more than 15 percent (Chu

Theist Argument
One of the first ways a theist might respond to this argument is by denying premise 1 because one
might claim that Rowe has given no sufficient reason to believe that it is true. All that has been solved
the theist believes is that there is evil in the world and that we don t know why or what the good is that
can justify God in permitting such evil (Rowe, 2004, p.7). This line of argument is also known as the
argument from ignorance. Could we, the theist argues, even comprehend the goods which permit
much of this horrendous suffering given the infinite transcendence of Gods mind? (Rowe, 2004, p.7).

For example, there is the problem of geography where suffering from natural disasters could have
been more evenly distributed around the world by God, at present it is only happening in certain
regions, most predominantly the third world countries (Tattersall, 2015, p.4). There is also the problem
of quantity, the quantity of natural evil in our world is far too much to be explained by the
advantageous effects of showing human virtues such as courage, compassion and love (Tattersall,
2015, p.4). Thus, it can be suggested that the evidential problem of evil does in fact show that evil is
evidence against the belief in God, although it does not disprove his existence as this is not what I
have set out to do here, it does significantly lower the probability that there is a God. We can therefore
agree with Russel that: Because the hypotheses which are offered to save theism are unlikely on what
we know, theism is defenseless against the evidential arguments from evil (Russell, 1996,

America Faces A Wealth Gap
Veronica Gonzalez
James Okrasinski
English 1102
3 March 2015 America faces a wealth gap. Those born in the lower class struggle moving up.
Although the United States has long thought of itself as a nation where anyone who gets schooling and
works hard can move ahead on the basis of their achievement, the facts tell otherwise. Children born
into high income families have about twice as much chance of becoming middle class or better in their
adult years as those born into the lower classes. A way in which the lower income kids can beat the
chances is by getting a college degree. Those who earn a degree have a better chance of becoming
middle class or better than those who don t, although still not as good of a chance as the ... Show more

In addition, experts on the field argue that the effects of college are powerful enough to boost the
income of adult children from relatively poor families not only well past the income achieved by their
parents but also past the income achieved by many of their peers with more advantaged family
backgrounds who did not obtain equivalent education (Isaacs, Sawhill, Haskins 34). To put it in
another way, obtaining a degree is the best way, perhaps the only way, to possess economic stability.
Now, if we look at it from the country s perspective, education can be part of the solution to the wealth
gap, because the occurrence of poverty in the United States is directly related to educational level. A
college degree is the ticket to the middle class and beyond. Today, obviously, the idea that everyone
should attend to college is indisputable. But there is definitely nothing magical about its price. As
higher education institutions keep on rising its tuitions and fees.
The overwhelming cost for higher educational institutions is causing a huge concern over whether
higher education will be an attainable financial concept to the ordinary student in the upcoming years.
Many Americans now tend to believe that the path to obtaining a degree has turned into distraught
with financial traps. Recent studies done by the U.S. Department of Education show that college
tuition and fees have ballooned 1,120% since 1978. A year of college tuition for

Healing Gardens Research Paper
Healing gardens have been with us for many years and people have been using the healing powers of
the earth, the sun, the fresh air, and the visually stimulating sights of nature to inspire and heal their
souls. Some of the common healing botanicals are herbs, vegetables, berries, fruits and nuts. These
botanicals are part of our daily dietary plans. To be amongst these healing plants while they are
growing enlightens relaxation and stimulates the sensory senses. The walking pathways throughout
the garden are to be placed with thought and planning. The pathways like our veins need to connect
and have purpose. This allows the visitors to see and explore every single special plant in the garden.
The garden can be walked through every day, a few times a day and that means the walk pathways
must be made of earth stones to allow the earths energy into the space. A cobble stone that will allow a
soft moss to grow along the sides of the path would be ideal. The more green the more relaxing the ...

The Protest Psychosis Summary
Psychiatry and psychology have struggled in the past to contextualize the nature of mental illness.
Through this struggle, mental illnesses and their symptoms have been used as a means of controlling
deviance and pathologizing emotions felt by certain groups of people. Social, political, and historical
factors create the boundaries of sanity and insanity in which hegemonic, institutional power control
minority groups, however, the manner in which these boundaries manifest have shifted over time.
Jonathan Metzl in his book The Protest Psychosis: How Schizophrenia Became a Black Disease
explores the manner in which mental illness is used by institutions to control deviance through his
examination of how the anti psychiatry movement, subsequence ... Show more content on

As Metzl highlights, the misdiagnosing of schizophrenia was used as a tool of social control in the
1960s and 1970s. Racist bias structured in social and political institutions pathologized the unrest and
anger felt by African American communities and thus incarcerated disproportionally high numbers of
Black men under the guise of mental illness. Ultimately, this pathologizing of emotions felt by African
American communities persists today. The manner in which Black men and women express anger is
pathologized by society and it warps how the public perceives unrest in the Black community,
especially in interactions between protestors and

Descriptive Essay On The Sidewalk
My hand reaches for the door handle. The cold metal sends a shiver down my spine. Two steps and my
body is out the door. A gust of wind makes my footing unsteady, without thinking I lunge for the
building for support. I need this fresh air, the office was suffocating. A walk on the sidewalk is just the
break I need. The stoplight turns red. I turn my head left, then right. The coast is clear. My legs scurry
across the road. Safe. The familiar sidewalks lead me past the newspaper, the post office, the Sell It
Again shop, and all the buildings that have lived as long as I have. This is home, where only two
stoplights delay our travel.
As I walk, the sounds of passing motorists fill the background. The faint sound of construction at the

I miss you. The tears stream down my face. I don t try to hide them. I have been pushing this anger
and sadness down for so many years, it has ravaged my body. Holding these feelings back from all the
important people in my life, has been hard. I feel as though I shouldn t be this upset, it s not fair to my
mom, she lost her dad. The sidewalk ends with train tracks, instead of going back the way I came, I
decide to cross the road. Looking left and looking right, I sprint. Being on the opposite side, holds a
new perspective. I know it s not your fault that you can t be here, I have asbestos to blame for that.
A passing motorist slams on her brakes. The screeching sound jerks me out of my thoughts. The stop
light turned red. The vehicles are stopping, but I continue to walk. Realization overwhelms me.
A stop light represents tragedy. Red is the incident that causes sadness. When one stoplight is red,
others might not, which represents that the world is still turning even though there is tragedy. Yellow
represents slowly recovering or looking ahead at what will change. Green means learning to keep
going and adapt to the change. Life will have many stoplights, some worse than others.
Building after building, car after car, noise after noise, I absorb all of it. The chaos surrounding me is
nothing compared to chaos in Kokomo. Returning to the place I started, the sadness I felt earlier is
tucked away barely visible. While I was walking along the

The Secret Of The Undergraduate Program
Guiding Undergraduate Students
The secret in education lies in respecting the student. The role of the undergraduate program is to
understand what is being learned in the classroom, and taking it out of the educational structure. As
professionals, it is significant to have an outreach where the students are involved, can learn around
the student experience, are guided into real life jobs, and have a mentor who will be an advocate for
them. The foremost goal is trying to make the students more involved. If we can set up an
environment of positivity and influence, formerly, we can set the groundwork for their development in
the professional world. The professionalism that we put forth, and setting examples, that if their name
is attached to it, that it should be done to the best of their abilities; that there are no excuses not to give
all they have towards their goals.
Furthermore, making sure their experience and involvement in the school has reached beyond just
success in classes, nonetheless, finding success in their careers of choice. The message we should
stress, is learning as the primary activity and goal of the college environment; learning to challenge
the status quo while becoming innovators. In other words, the priority should be to set up a
comfortable environment where the students will be able to grow beyond what they learn. It should be
our job to give them this environment where they are comfortable to talk about almost any subject
manor. Additionally,

Consumer Society and Choice
A consumer society is a post industrial term used to describe the fact that society is characterised more
by what people consume and less by the jobs they do or goods they produce (Hetherington, 2009). As
our relationship with consumerism has changed so too have the choices available of why, when, where
and how we consume. The first part of this assignment will look at the characteristics of a consumer
society, the choices available and identify the divisions created from unequal choices. The second part
will consider the role of the Big four supermarkets (TESCO, Asda, Sainsbury and Morrison s) in
providing choice to people.
The term consumer society goes beyond the mere act of shopping and the functional use of goods with

Larger stores also offer people the convenience of additional services along with their shopping, for
example post office, pharmacy and opticians. By addressing consumer s expectations and using their
buyer power they can offer a choice of products to reflect consumer s diverse budgetary, dietary,
ethical and environmental requirements. Furthermore their global buyer power enables consumers to
benefit from choosing exotic produce all year round. With 30,000,000 customers (Bevan cited in
Allen, 2009) choosing to use the big four supermarkets on a weekly basis it would suggest that they
provide a format that consumers want.
Supermarkets also claim that their economic leverage enables them to benefit local communities by
building stores and providing social and economic regeneration packages. One such example is
Linwood, on the outskirts of Glasgow (Allen, 2009). The closure of a main employer left the centre of
Linwood economically scarred. A proposal to build a new Tesco supermarket in the area and attract
other special retailers to the ailing Town Centre was met with enthusiasm by local residents.
Supporters of supermarkets advocate that everyone within the supply chain (customers, communities
and suppliers) benefit from supermarkets, a concept Dennis Wrong terms the positive sum game
(Allen, 2009).
Anti supermarket campaigners have a counterclaim that the big four abuse their dominant position in
the marketplace and restrict

Tractor Poem Analysis
The poem Tractor is written by Ted Hughes is literally about a tractor. The season is winter and the
man is trying to start the tractor but is unable to do so because of the weather. Eventually, the man is
able to start the tractor. However, while reading it further, this poem seems to be telling us that with
determination, man can overcome many problems no matter how tough the problem is, using nature as
a form of trouble to humans. Moreover, it also tells us that the journey to solving the problem is
difficult. This poem is in nine stanzas, where the first four stanzas describe the process of starting up
the tractor while the last five stanzas, describe how the tractor finally starts up and rejoices. The poet

Hence, we can see that the poet has created negative impressions of anger and disappointment through
the use of the first person narrative point of view, while the persona is still determined to start it up.
Next, I would be talking about the use of imagery to create impressions of success. Firstly, the poet
uses the simile like a demon that demonstrates a more than usually complete materialization . This
simile compares the characteristic of materialization to the starting of the tractor, where the phrase
more than usually complete emphasizes that the effort taken to start the tractor was immense and
tremendously difficult such that the ignition of the tractor s engine is more than usually complete ,
displaying the impressions of success. Furthermore, the poet uses the personification levers awake
imprisoned deadweight , where the word awake is used to cause someone to get up from sleep. This
word tells us that the tractor is awaken after a deep sleep, and that shows us that the persona is
successful in awaking the tractor. Additionally, the word imprisoned suggests that that the tractor was
locked away, but is now freed from imprisonment, suggesting triumph and victory in starting the
tractor. Hence, we can see that poet uses imagery to create impressions of success and victory.
Also, I will be discussing the use of contrast in the poem. The

The Rhetorical Analysis Of Queen Elizabeth In 1588
In August of 1588, Queen Elizabeth I prepares her troops for the oncoming invasion by the Spanish
army. As she rallies her troops with a triumphant speech. Because the Queen was faced with the
downgrading of women at the time politically and domestically, Queen Elizabeth must use smart and
bold strategies throughout her speech. In order to inspire the troops to be the most successful in the
protection of their home empire. In her speech, the Queen uses strategies such as: using a masculine
tone, using strong pronouns, and using a specific structure in her ideas in order to persuade her
audience (her troops).
The first strategy Queen Elizabeth uses in her speech is how she uses strong pronouns to keep a
powerful and controlling point. There are many instances throughout her speech she puts emphasis on
the idea of togetherness. For example, words like we, us, and our appear in the text when she states we
have been persuaded by some that are careful of our safety, to take heed how we commit ourselves to
armed multitudes, for fear of treatery. These words show the power in the loyalty she has to her people
and the loyalty her people have for their Queen and empire. This loyalty is important because the
troops should feel a bond and a passion, to understand the bigger picture in what they are fighting for.
She then transitions into individual pronouns towards the end of the speech. Words like I, my, myself,
and my, express a powerful tone in her speech. For example she states

Ratio and Financial Statement Analysis Essay
Executive Summary
This paper examines financial ratio analysis by defining, the three groups of stakeholders that use
financial ratios, the five different kinds of ratios used and their applications, the analytical tools used
in analysis, and finally financial ratio analysis limitations and benefits.
The paper illustrates that financial ratio analysis is an important tool for firm s to evaluate their
financial health in order to identify areas of weakness so as to institute corrective measures.
While financial ratio analysis does contain limitations that include little theory to guide them as well
as the use of accounting data based on historical costs that may not reflect a firm s true economic
conditions, it is an excellent tool ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One is Working capital to total assets ratio that measures a firm s ability to pay off its short term
liabilities and is calculated by subtracting current liabilities from current assets divided by total assets.
The retained earnings to total assets ratio that measures a firm s use of its total asset base to generate
earnings is also used. It is important to note that retained earnings can be easily manipulated distorting
the final calculation. The third financial ratio used by the Z score formula is the market value of equity
to book value of debt. This is the inverse of the debt to equity ratio, and it shows the amount a firm s
assets can decline in value before liabilities exceed assets. For closely held firms, stockholders equity
or total assets less total liabilities can be used but this amount has not been statistically verified for
purposes of the formula. The sale to total assets ratio that measures a firm s ability to generate sales
with its asset base is also used. The fifth financial ratio is the operating income to total assets. This
ratio is the most important factor in the formula because its profit that eventually makes or breaks a
firm. In calculating the Z score, each of these ratios is given a weight factor that is used within the
formula. (IOMA s report, 2003). See appendix I for the Z score formula and how to interpret the
results obtained. The Z score is used by firms when running regular financial data and firms use it to

Hitler s Actions During Ww2
In the final months of World War II Allied Forces, commanded by United States General Dwight D.
Eisenhower, were on the offensive and had pushed deep into German territory. The Germans had
suffered significant losses of troops and equipment after five years of warfare. Any chance of winning
meant the Germans would have to make a stand. Hitler discussed his strategy with his top generals.
While they agreed that capturing the city of Antwerp, a major Allied supply hub, would inflict a
devastating blow to the Allied Forces, they disagreed with Hitler s plan of assaulting through the
heavily wooded area of the Ardennes. Furthermore, the plan was to attack under the protection of poor
weather to mitigate the use of Allied airpower, which was a major Allied advantage. Hitler believed
that a complex assault would catch Allied commanders off guard causing them to be slow to react. The
Allied lines were spread very thin in the Ardennes, even to the point of an average of 73 men per mile.
Moreover, this specific area was used for training new units and for allowing battle tested,
experienced units to rest and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

idea of the ensuing attack. Nor did they foresee the incredible size of the impending German assault.
For ten days the Germans capitalized on the momentum of their surprise and pushed the Allies back;

Analysis Of Wittgenstein s View About The Nature, Limit...
Hayley Berkowitz Linguistic Structure: Wittgenstein s view about the Nature, Limit Function of
Logical Constants Quantifiers. 2. For Ludwig Wittgenstein to really provide us with a thorough
account of propositions he needs to explain the nature of logical constants. Wittgenstein was a thinker
who remained skeptical as to whether logical constants could be representational. For him, (negations,
conditionals, connectives, conjuncts, disjuncts, etc) are not constituents of the proposition but are
instead structural elements of that proposition. The notion that the nature of logical constants is
inherently structural, seems clear in Wittgenstein s reference to them in relation to punctuation. In
5.4611, Wittgenstein declares that Logical operation signs are punctuations , and it seems in this sense
they must have a syntactical role. With this notion in mind the proposition that Greg is a lobster ,
would have the same sense as the proposition that Greg is not a lobster . It s feasible to assume that the
negated proposition has an extra situation or object (the negation) that goes above and beyond the
unnegated proposition. For Wittgenstein however, this is not the case because negative facts merely
account for the non existence of a state of affairs. Therefore, because not is a structural element (and
not a name) it can only be a truth function that reverses the sense of a proposition. For Wittgenstein
the sign and in the sentence Mr. Hsu and Greg float into

Summary Of Joan Didion s Slouching Towards Bethlehem
Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion is not what one would call a feel good read. It is for all
those people who have lost their sense of place or sense of time or sense of self. Didion opens the
book with an epigraph, a W. B. Yeats poem stating, Things fall apart; the center cannot hold. The
narratives are so poetic, they seem to be myths, stories conjured from the potential lack of excitement
in 1960s California. But, alas, the reports are true. It is because, in the news, one does not hear about
the feelings of those a part of the life, the up close and personal truths that seem absurd but identify
almost anyone. Didion hits on universal truths by admitting extremely personal ones. The meaning is
blatantly there throughout the essays, but, because it is all so raw, it seemed impossible to properly
describe the feelings in words. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why Is Dispatch Center Important
What would happen if 911 was called, and no one answered in the middle of a serious crisis? What if
the dispatcher that answered had no idea how to help? Having an efficient dispatch center is vital to
daily law enforcement operations, public and officers safety. Why is dispatching and the dispatch
center so important? The effects of not maintaining a proficient and efficient dispatch center can result
in major complications, and sometimes irreversible consequences, including someone s life. There are
various complex tasks performed on a daily basis inside a dispatch center. No single process is more

  • 2. A Twist on Homer s Odyssey Dear Alexandra, O my lady, I miss so you. I know it has been years since I have seen you last, but I want you to know that my travels with the heroic Odysseus has gone terrible. I have done horrific things that I hope you can forgive. Everything was fine until our sail home from Troy, where we all acted like reckless fools and all hell broke loose. We have been cursed by the gods Zeus and Poseidon and now I m afraid that this letter will be my last. On our way home to Ithaca, the winds blew us to the land of Ismarus. I was stored on wine, drunk, so drunk I can only remember the evil have done. Picking fights with the Cicones, raping innocent women, killing innocent men. I try to tell myself I was young, it wasn t my fault and it was the vicious vine that made me do all those horrible things, but, deep down I knew what I had done was horrendous and ungodly as well as unforgivable. If only I had listen to wise Odysseus call. I believe it was Back, and quickly! Out to sea again. But none of us warriors dared to listen. All we want to do is party and raid this poor city. As a result the god Zeus cursed us, our evil days punishing of group with the great lost of men. We fought out of pure anger fighting a battle that had not been need. That s when things went good to bad. After losing dozen of men in the battle on Ismarus, we stopped out to a land of the Cyclops after the Poseidon broke up our ship. The warriors left were Odysseus, his second in command Eurylochus, my close ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay About Coliseum Even over my own radio, I could hear the sound of worship music blaring from the car next to me as we both waited to turn into the Bojangles Coliseum parking lot. We had made little progress in roughly 10 minutes, moving forward inch by inch until being halted once again by the police officers directing the traffic. The car had two women, looking to be in their 40s, sitting in the driver and passenger talking with smiles on their faces. After finally making it into the actual parking lot, I walked to the Coliseum with others making the trek. There were predominantly women, many looking to be in their 40s or 50s but also many in their 20s or 30s. It was a chilly evening, and by the time we finally reached the antechamber with the security ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One woman was selecting a scoop of ice cream, as her friends endearingly mocked her for eating a cold dessert when it was cold outside. There were not only lines for food, but for the restroom as well. The line for the women s bathroom already extended 14 people out from the restroom area itself. As women waited in line, many others walking by stopped to talk pictures with the larger than life picture of Joyce on a sign saying Welcome! I m so glad you re here . The sign also featured an arrow directing people to the Resources section. Groups of women and individuals smiled as they posed next to Joyce before heading into the arena itself to select their seats. Inside the arena, the floor seating was close to full, with more people making their way higher and higher up the sides. At the front of the floor seating area, the stage was lit with light purple and darker blue spotlights as screens to either side read out Welcome Charlotte . I found a seat in the far left seating section directly across from the stage, climbing up to where an open row was available. As I entered the seating section, an usher handed me two offering envelopes. When I said I only needed one, she firmly insisted that I keep them both with a smile. My row of 7 seats was empty, but there was a man and woman seated together in the row ahead, a pair of women seated down from them, and a group of women taking up the rows behind me. • 4. William Shakespeare Character Analysis I m a huge nerd about Shakespeare.William Shakespeare is someone who has had a profound impact upon the consciousness and culture of the entire English speaking world. His plays are the foundation for some of the greatest movies and TV shows that we have including many of our english words and many phrases and ideas that we commonly use come directly from Shakespeare. However, there are many who wonder who he really is and many people speculate that the man they call William Shakespeare is not actually the author of the plays and sonnets attributed to his name. I do not agree and I am in firm belief that William Shakespeare is the one who wrote the plays. William Shakespeare as we know him was born in Stratford, a village on the Avon river in the county of Warwickshire in England. We have no actual records of when he was born, however we do have a record of when he was baptized, which was on April 26 1564. He was the eldest surviving son of a glove maker, John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. At the age of eighteen he married Anne Hathaway and until 1592, when he resurfaced again in the London theatre scene. The first point of evidence in the authorship conflict is that Shakespeare s name is on the plays and poems he wrote. Tom Kathman and David Reedy point this out in their book. How We Know That Shakespeare Wrote Shakespeare: The Historical Facts. In 1593, the narrative poem Venus and Adonis was published by Stratford native Richard Field, with a dedication to the Earl of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Levinas vis-à-vis the Other Essay Levinas vis à vis the Other Philosophy, arising from its Greek tradition of a love of wisdom , seeks to critically examine those questions most fundamental to humankind; it is concerned with essential concepts (or rather, questions) of being (metaphysics), rightness and goodness, knowledge, truth and beauty. As a branch of metaphysics, ontology seeks, in particular, to understand the nature of being (or existence) by placing objects within categories and organized totalities, while always assuming God as the first cause (causa sui). (Rebidoux) Yet as most philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle and Descartes each attest to their distinct definition of being , there is an exception to these ontological contenders: Emmanuel Levinas. By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before evaluating Levinas humanity opening theories, however, it seems necessary to understand the process by which one can come to know the initial Other. For before the subject can enter into a just, fraternal relationship with the Other, he must be wholly prepared to welcome its face. According to Levinas, before encountering the Other, one is in a sleeping state within the Order of Being. Mundane and superficial, this Order allows only for categorization and objectification of things. At this stage even animate objects are reduced to their formal properties: a cat, for example, is classified according to its genus and species, recognized only as one instance of cat ; a human, similarly, is reduced simply to another instance of humanity. (Rebidoux, 26 Jan 2004) It is from this state of perpetual sleep, Levinas orders, that one must awaken. Whilst sleeping within the Order of Being, one is instinctually awoken by the Infinite. This Infinite, according to Levinas, is a consciousness that occurs in revelation of the transcendence of the Other. (Rebidoux) The Infinite emerge as an appearance of unending depth that overflows both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This game is a great way to try and fault others for one s own mistakes. In the book, The Orenda written by Joseph Boyden, it is described how the aboriginal people of the Wendat became extirpated by their enemies because of their own inadequacies. Throughout the course of the book, the Wendat make awful decisions and because of such decisions the wendat nation becomes extinct. The Wendat are prideful and some refuse to seek help even in the most desperate of times. The Wendat choose to ignore the dreams of their people and the prophecies. Fox says, I d rather die naked and freezing than come here for protection (Boyden, pg 354) which shows that Fox would rather die with absolutely nothing then live with the crows, their allies. In what world does one not ask or accept help from their allies? Obviously in a proud and arrogant one. After the Wendat had been decimated by the smallpox outbreak, they kept to themselves even more than before. Another example of how the Wendat s pride causes issues is when Bird is negotiating peace with the Iroquois he loses the Wampum. Instead of asking for forgiveness, he decides to go into battle. Bird states, our story meant for these people who are our enemy, has been lost...I now know that the course we are on...is a course of warfare. (Boyden, page 108) Bird does not even consider reasoning with them or holding negotiations. The Wendat pride has caused its people many issues and ultimately their own unfortunate demise. Though the Wendat were not solely responsible for their extirpation, they played a large part of what happened to them because of how they were arrogant and chose to disrespect those who wished to help them. Another factor that led to the demise of the Wendat people is because they chose to ignore the pleas of their people and the prophetic dreams that warned them. They also became entranced by the wealth the Europeans had to offer, so much so that they began to shape their way of life around it. The Dangers Of Cockfighting In Bali When one thinks of Bali, one will most possibly envision the white sand beaches, clear blue skies, calming water and the huge number of Western tourists there. Chances that one will jump into the idea of cockfighting in Bali villages would probably be very low. Cockfighting plays a pivotal role in the life of numerous Balinese men. As Geertz (2005), an American anthropologist suggested, cockfighting is considered as a part of The Balinese Way of Life . A cockfight, in a straightforward explanation, means a fight between two roosters in a caged ring until one of them dies for the amusement of spectators (PETA, n.d.). However, to Balinese men, it means so much more than this it is an obsession that has been passed down through generations. Every year in Bali, there will be legal large scale cockfights in almost every village of Bali. This precedes the renowned public holiday in Bali called Nyepi, where people in Bali are not allowed to go out of their houses and even have to turn off the lights when they are indoors. This is done in order to avoid contacts with influx of demons that are chased out of hell for an instant moment (Geertz, 2005). When counselees walk into the therapist s office, they are often at one of the lowest points of their lives, bringing with them a lifetime of hurts, questions, and crises. The counselor s view of the Gospel must be full enough to encompass the life of the hurting person. In those moments, a counselor will rely on years of hard work and discipline to make decisions that impact a person for life. McCauley Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy November 5, 2014 Instructor: HptFw Rainer Lichtsinn Jim Sinegal In 1983, Jim Sinegal s idea for a new business was a place where there were no signs identifying isles, no advertising, no way for customers to bag their purchases, and before customers would be allowed to shop, they had to pay an annual fee. That business is Costco and during Jim s 30 years as founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), he grew that business into the fourth largest retailer in the country. Looking back on the legacy Jim left behind when he retired, it is clear that Jim is one of the most visionary and ethical leaders of our modern times. First, we will look at how Jim implemented his vision while demonstrating idealized influence by setting aside his self interests and gaining the trust of the customer for the good of the company. Then we will explore Costco s code of ethics that employs Dr. Toner s principles of owing, ordering, and oughting. Finally, we will explore how Jim s leadership style has impacted me and influenced my leadership. Visionary Leader Jim Sinegal was a visionary leader as demonstrated by his departure from the generally accepted retail business practices in favor of a transformational leadership style that gained the trust of his customers. All that has been solved the theist believes is that there is evil in the world and that we don t know why or what the good is that can justify God in permitting such evil (Rowe, 2004, p.7). This line of argument is also known as the argument from ignorance. Could we, the theist argues, even comprehend the goods which permit much of this horrendous suffering given the infinite transcendence of Gods mind? (Rowe, 2004, p.7). There is also the problem of quantity, the quantity of natural evil in our world is far too much to be explained by the advantageous effects of showing human virtues such as courage, compassion and love (Tattersall, 2015, p.4). Thus, it can be suggested that the evidential problem of evil does in fact show that evil is evidence against the belief in God, although it does not disprove his existence as this is not what I have set out to do here, it does significantly lower the probability that there is a God. We can therefore agree with Russel that: Because the hypotheses which are offered to save theism are unlikely on what we know, theism is defenseless against the evidential arguments from evil (Russell, 1996, ... Although the United States has long thought of itself as a nation where anyone who gets schooling and works hard can move ahead on the basis of their achievement, the facts tell otherwise. Children born into high income families have about twice as much chance of becoming middle class or better in their adult years as those born into the lower classes. A way in which the lower income kids can beat the chances is by getting a college degree. In addition, experts on the field argue that the effects of college are powerful enough to boost the income of adult children from relatively poor families not only well past the income achieved by their parents but also past the income achieved by many of their peers with more advantaged family backgrounds who did not obtain equivalent education (Isaacs, Sawhill, Haskins 34). To put it in another way, obtaining a degree is the best way, perhaps the only way, to possess economic stability. Now, if we look at it from the country s perspective, education can be part of the solution to the wealth gap, because the occurrence of poverty in the United States is directly related to educational level. This simile compares the characteristic of materialization to the starting of the tractor, where the phrase more than usually complete emphasizes that the effort taken to start the tractor was immense and tremendously difficult such that the ignition of the tractor s engine is more than usually complete , displaying the impressions of success. In order to inspire the troops to be the most successful in the protection of their home empire. In her speech, the Queen uses strategies such as: using a masculine tone, using strong pronouns, and using a specific structure in her ideas in order to persuade her audience (her troops). The first strategy Queen Elizabeth uses in her speech is how she uses strong pronouns to keep a powerful and controlling point. There are many instances throughout her speech she puts emphasis on the idea of togetherness. For example, words like we, us, and our appear in the text when she states we have been persuaded by some that are careful of our safety, to take heed how we commit ourselves to armed multitudes, for fear of treatery. These words show the power in the loyalty she has to her people and the loyalty her people have for their Queen and empire. This loyalty is important because the troops should feel a bond and a passion, to understand the bigger picture in what they are fighting for. It is important to note that retained earnings can be easily manipulated distorting the final calculation. The third financial ratio used by the Z score formula is the market value of equity to book value of debt. This is the inverse of the debt to equity ratio, and it shows the amount a firm s assets can decline in value before liabilities exceed assets. For closely held firms, stockholders equity or total assets less total liabilities can be used but this amount has not been statistically verified for purposes of the formula. The sale to total assets ratio that measures a firm s ability to generate sales with its asset base is also used. The fifth financial ratio is the operating income to total assets. This ratio is the most important factor in the formula because its profit that eventually makes or breaks a firm. In calculating the Z score, each of these ratios is given a weight factor that is used within the formula. (IOMA s report, 2003). See appendix I for the Z score formula and how to interpret the results obtained. The Z score is used by firms when running regular financial data and firms use it to spot ... • 32. Hitler s Actions During Ww2 In the final months of World War II Allied Forces, commanded by United States General Dwight D. Eisenhower, were on the offensive and had pushed deep into German territory. The Germans had suffered significant losses of troops and equipment after five years of warfare. Any chance of winning meant the Germans would have to make a stand. Hitler discussed his strategy with his top generals. While they agreed that capturing the city of Antwerp, a major Allied supply hub, would inflict a devastating blow to the Allied Forces, they disagreed with Hitler s plan of assaulting through the heavily wooded area of the Ardennes. Furthermore, the plan was to attack under the protection of poor weather to mitigate the use of Allied airpower, which was a major Allied advantage. Hitler believed that a complex assault would catch Allied commanders off guard causing them to be slow to react. The Allied lines were spread very thin in the Ardennes, even to the point of an average of 73 men per mile. Moreover, this specific area was used for training new units and for allowing battle tested, experienced units to rest and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Surprise delays enemy reactions, overloads and confuses enemy decision makers and command and control systems, induces psychological shock in enemy soldiers and leaders, and reduces the coherence of the enemy defense. In essence, surprise is catching the enemy off guard in order to gain the upper hand during a conflict. The Germans executed surprise flawlessly, meaning the Allies had no idea of the ensuing attack. Nor did they foresee the incredible size of the impending German assault. For ten days the Germans capitalized on the momentum of their surprise and pushed the Allies back; however, once their momentum dwindled, it took the Allies almost triple the amount of time to regain their initial positions and decimate German ... • 34. Analysis Of Wittgenstein s View About The Nature, Limit... Hayley Berkowitz Linguistic Structure: Wittgenstein s view about the Nature, Limit Function of Logical Constants Quantifiers. 2. For Ludwig Wittgenstein to really provide us with a thorough account of propositions he needs to explain the nature of logical constants. Wittgenstein was a thinker who remained skeptical as to whether logical constants could be representational. For him, (negations, conditionals, connectives, conjuncts, disjuncts, etc) are not constituents of the proposition but are instead structural elements of that proposition. The notion that the nature of logical constants is inherently structural, seems clear in Wittgenstein s reference to them in relation to punctuation. In 5.4611, Wittgenstein declares that Logical operation signs are punctuations , and it seems in this sense they must have a syntactical role. With this notion in mind the proposition that Greg is a lobster , would have the same sense as the proposition that Greg is not a lobster . It s feasible to assume that the negated proposition has an extra situation or object (the negation) that goes above and beyond the unnegated proposition. For Wittgenstein however, this is not the case because negative facts merely account for the non existence of a state of affairs. Therefore, because not is a structural element (and not a name) it can only be a truth function that reverses the sense of a proposition. For Wittgenstein the sign and in the sentence Mr. Hsu and Greg float into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Summary Of Joan Didion s Slouching Towards Bethlehem Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion is not what one would call a feel good read. It is for all those people who have lost their sense of place or sense of time or sense of self. Didion opens the book with an epigraph, a W. B. Yeats poem stating, Things fall apart; the center cannot hold. The narratives are so poetic, they seem to be myths, stories conjured from the potential lack of excitement in 1960s California. But, alas, the reports are true. It is because, in the news, one does not hear about the feelings of those a part of the life, the up close and personal truths that seem absurd but identify almost anyone. Didion hits on universal truths by admitting extremely personal ones. The meaning is blatantly there throughout the essays, but, because it is all so raw, it seemed impossible to properly describe the feelings in words. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
