Why Is Fidel Castro A Hero
Fidel Castro is considered to be one of the world s most controversial human figures. On one
hand, many people say he is a ruthless and evil dictator. While many others say he is the man
who saved Cuba and is their national hero. In the biography Fidel Castro by Volker Skierka,
Castro is portrayed as a national hero. While looking at the cover the readers are able to see
Castro smoking a cigar, which set a tranquil tone for the rest of the book. This hagiography tells
the story of Castro s entire life from adolescence until his vast rein of being dictator of Cuba. The
biographer Victor Skierka portrays Castro as a good family man who loves his people and feels a
certain amount of responsibility for the country he loves. The bias biography gives... Show more

order for the reader to understand that this biography is bias. He is not interested in mentioning
the downfalls, failures and catastrophes that Fidel Castro faced throughout his lifetime. Skierka
emphasizes Castro s positive traits to the extent where it seems he is unaware of the many flaws
Castro had. Volker Skierka s mission was only to show the positive aspects of Castro and he was

Skin Colorism In America
Skin color in America is a precursor to how minorities are treated. This concept of what is
considered acceptable depicted by what is considered the white norm. Colorism affects all
minorities, but at different degrees. Women in minority communities are affected more harshly than
men when it comes to this construct. Colonization and slavery have created disadvantage were the
wellbeing of individual s lives are beyond their control.
White colorism is something to be acknowledged. Colorism is a part of racism and without
addressing the issue, individuals underestimate the impact of racism. Persons during that era who
displayed more European identities were treated better than those of pure African descent.

Unnatural Behavior Research Paper
In order to properly answer and understand this first question, we must examine the true meaning of
natural and unnatural. Depending on different cultures or even different regions of the world, the
meaning of natural behavior may differ. In a modern society, I would say that unnatural behaviors
are those that target the life of another humanin any form. In other words, behaviors like murder,
terrorist arrangements, child abuse, etc are done in order to place another life at risk of survival.
For example, the concept of cannibalism is thought to be immoral as it risks the safety and survival
of human beings among each other. However, there are still people that practice this ritual. In
previous tribal communities, it was a cultural norm, where people consumed the dead to... Show

In order to have morals an individual must have specific aspects in their human nature. For
example, it is immoral to kill others; hence, it must be human nature to avoid murder. But, why do
we have crimes and such a high murder rate. Furthermore, it depends on each person. If it is in
your human nature to be a good person and help others, then your morality is related to your human
nature. Good morals enables humans to shape their personality and to an extent predict their future
endearments. For example, as we grow older we know to talk with manners, to be respectable, and
listen when someone else is talking. Furthermore, we grow more and learn to not cheat and to be
kind to elders and young children. These are morals we learn to abide to, but also become human
nature. Whereas, if an individual has an evil, harmful human nature, then their morality is also
related to that and those are the people that hurt and kill others.
Therefore, yes we need to know about human beings in order to know how to treat them morally.
These two concepts of human nature and morality are related and cannot be discusses

Oryx and Crake Essay
December 12, 2013 The Importance of Childhood in Oryx And Crake In Atwood s novel Oryx
and Crake we see the cause and effect of how our childhood and how we are raised has a large
correlation to what type of adult we become. Through the character of Jimmy and later his new
persona Snowman, the reader is shown the detrimental effects of an abandoned childhood. Not
only do Jimmy s poor choices in his adult life have a clear link to his neglected and unguided
childhood they also create an adult that is emotionally damaged and unable to see the right path in
his life even when he wants to. Atwood s similarities between Jimmy and Snowman and their
relationship in his childhood through to adulthood clearly exemplify the cause and... Show more

Having never experienced a positive way to express his feeling in his childhood it caused him to
be so cold and empty in side. He was as inhuman and void of emotions as his small childhood pet.
Once the world s inhabitants are wiped out, Snowman is left with the task of taking care of the
Crakers. Whether it is the fact that Snowman wants to be the parent he never had, or if he just
simply doesn t want to lose his only somewhat human interactions, it is evident that he cares about
these creatures. In the time of crisis he exhibits a compassionate reasonability toward the Crakers
because it is his duty to look after the new race of humans. Perhaps the only positive by product of
his dysfunctional childhood is that he knows what it is like to be deserted and left uncared for so
he strives now in his adulthood as Snowman to protect the Crakers as best he can. Even though
Crakers original vision for these creature was to make them Godless and without art, Snowman
taught them things in there childhood that contradicted there original thoughts. Snowman teaches
them about the world and tries to make them understand their surroundings better, even though his
explanations make him feel isolated and alone; reminding him of the sad childhood that he had. He

The Inequality Of Power By Mary Louise Pratt, A Woman Of...
Does the power struggle still exist in the 21st Century and are teacher s encouraging the inequality
of power instead of addressing issues at school?
(Indent)In the past, countries like South Africa experienced a power struggle called the Apartheid.
White South Africans were seen as the Superior race and were allowed privileges that other races
were denied. Being born and raised in South Africa after Apartheid, where it is now called a
Democracy. The power struggle is still just as ripe and evident as it was back then, it is just in
reverse. Now the Black people are allowed privileges and the White people are denied them. It
seems like only those in power; wealth and literacy are heard out and are able to actually make a
change. Today, a similar fight for power is evident in classrooms, work places and all over the
world. Mary Louise Pratt, a woman of the Elite MLA Academy presented a speech, Art of the
contact zone to expose the students and faculty to the contact zone. Pratt uses a very clever
technique by starting off with the story with personal illustrations and then leaves us dumbfounded
by the points her essay makes about the inequality of power. Pratt s explanation and emphasis
about the struggle of power, past and present is completely true. Although the contact zone is a
great idea in terms of power being equally distributed between people in society is, it s not feasible
because people always want to have more power than the next.

Influenza, Avian Influenza, and the Impacts of Past and Looming Pandemics
Avian influenza is a disease that has been wreaking havoc on human populations since the 16th
century. With the recent outbreak in 1997 of a new H5N1 avian flu subtype, the world has
begun preparing for a pandemic by looking upon its past affects. In the 20th Century, the world
witnessed three pandemics in the years of 1918, 1957, and 1968. In 1918 no vaccine, antibiotic,
or clear recognition of the disease was known. Killing over 40 million in less than a year, the
H1N1 strain ingrained a deep and lasting fear of the virus throughout the world. Though 1957 and
1968 brought on milder pandemics, they still killed an estimated 3 million people and presented a

As stated by the World Health Organization, all fifteen HA subtypes and nine DNA subtypes have
been detected in free flying birds . (WHO, 2005, 12) They, in turn, provide a huge and highly
mobile pool of genetic diversity.
Wild aquatic fowl, ducks in particular, serve as a reservoir for the Influenzavirus to transmit into
poultry and then to humans. Infected birds shed flu viruses in their saliva, nasal secretions, and
feces (CDC, 2004). The current virus seen in Asia is denoted as H5N1 and was first seen in
terns in South Africa in 1961 (CDC, 2004). The first human seen infection of the avian H5N1
viruses was in 1997 in Hong Kong in a three year old boy (Ruben, 2005). The outbreak involved
18 cases and killed 6, one third of the confirmed infected population (Rueben, 2005). In three
days 1.5 million birds were killed in order to prevent further spread. A new pandemic is now on
the horizon with recent outbreaks in poultry in the eight Asian countries of Cambodia, China,
Indonesia, Japan, Laos, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam since 2004 (CDC, 2005). As of July
5, 2005, there have been 108 reported human cases of the H5N1 virus with 54 deaths (CDC, 2004).

Christian Penance Beliefs
The theology of penance came into practice due to Christian having ongoing sinful acts. Once a
Christian was baptized and committed a sinful act he/ she could undergo either a public or
private penance. The public penance was practiced only once a year at Easter or Lent by the
Bishop. Christian were afforded the opportunity to have private or secret penance more frequently
by a priest is deemed necessary for ongoing sins. According to Lecture II, this was a therapeutic
and preventive act by which Christians could avoid the consequences of sin. Penance was viewed
as a practice or sacrament to deal with sin and disease. Sin shapes one s desire and takes on its
own shape and this was a way that the Christian could take on some balance. The bishop or priest
according article, read a passage to the Christian, explaining the Fall of man and the penance was to
bestowal Gods grace. The Christian expressed their sorrow for the sin and the bishop or priest after
going through the sacrament of the varies punishment like things that were expected of the person.

that the church should strongly encourage Christian to find someone that they trust to confess their
sins to and help hold them in some type of accountability. But, we live in this dispensation of Grace

Proper Nutrition In Canada
Everything we do on a daily basis, including studying and working, are all done for one goal at
the end of the day; survival. For surviving we need air, water and food, luckily air has not been
commodified yet, so the two most basic human rights than reveal themselves to be the right to clean
drinking water and proper nutrition. However, even in a developed country like Canada, the right to
foodis not always guaranteed, many people go to sleep with proper nutrition every day. I believe
that this type of carelessness for any person, and especially in a developed country is
unacceptable. This is the reason I chose to work with the North York Harvest Food Bank, so more
people could be guaranteed the right to food.

placed six species of fish in the lake. The stockings continued through the turn of the century
until researchers finally saw that the fish were reproducing. Out of the six species introduced,
there are only two types of fish still living in Crater Lake today which are the Kokanee Salmon
(Oncorhynchus nerka) and the Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The Kokanee Salmon is
a dwarf fish. These types of fish are the best fish in the lake. The last recorded stockings were
silver salmon in 1937 and rainbow trout in 1941. Today there are thousands of fish in Crater
Lake. An average Kokanee Salmon is eight inches, but the record is 18 inches. The Rainbow
Trout are way longer than the Kokanee. The record breaker at Crater Lake was 6 ВЅ pounds and

Stroke Vs Heat Stroke
Heat Related Illnesses
Return to Play Guidelines
The two return to play guidelines I feel are most important are heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
While all are very important to learn, these two are crucial as it occurs more frequently here in
Phoenix, Arizona. After an athlete has heat exhaustion, it takes about a day to two days to recover
enough to get back into sports. During this time staying hydrated and keeping cool is imperative.
The athlete should avoid alcohol or caffeine and that only further dehydrates you. Taking breaks
from the heat as the athlete gradually goes back into sports will help getting used to the heat again
(Ehrlich, 2014). After having heat exhaustion, the athlete should be more cautious and drink past
thirst satiation because he or she will be effected more by the heat than usual. This is very
important as returning to play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main difference is that heat stroke is much more severe and can easily lead to death. There are
two types of heat stroke, exertional heat stroke and classic heat stroke. Exertional heat stroke occurs
during physical activity generally with younger athletes while classic heat stroke can happen to
anyone who is out in the sun too long and does not have much heat resistance. Signs and symptoms
of heat stroke are a throbbing headache, dizziness, lack of sweating, red and dry skin, muscle
weakness and cramps, nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, shallow breathing, confusion, seizures, or
syncope ( Heat Stroke: Symptoms and Treatment, n.d.). In the event that heat stroke occurs,
immediately call 911, remove unnecessary clothing, dunk in an ice bath or apply ice packs and ice
towels in a similar fashion as you would for heat exhaustion ( Heat Stroke: Symptoms and
Treatment, n.d.). Even if the athletic trainer doubts if the condition if heat stroke or heat

Ghost Soldiers Book Summary
Ghost Soldiers is a book that chronicles the horrific and tragic events that happened to the prisoners
of the Japanese camp in Cabanatuan. The book intertwines two main timelines; the treatment of the
POWs in Japanese custody, starting from the death march and continuing through the rescue
mission, and the story of the Rangers assignment and how it was formed. The Bataan Death March
was the march that brought the POWs to the Cabanatuan camp. Many were shot just for slowing
down and almost all of the prisoners were severely dehydrated during the march. That lead to many
of them drinking dirty and infested water. When they reached the camp, disease and infection ran

They encountered many obstacles such as delaying 24 hours due to Japanese soldiers leaving
the camp unexpectedly. This book shows the courage of all soldiers and prisoners involved in
these events. Even with such an amazing and thrilling plot base, this book was incredibly difficult
to sit and read. Readers find themselves becoming lost and rereading passages and pages. While I
greatly respect all of the prisoners and soldiers for their courage and strength during this incredibly
troublesome encounter, this book did their valor no justice. Although this book is incredibly
descriptive and detailed, it is frequently thorough to a fault. It often takes the author three pages to
describe something that has little to no relevance to the actual plot. These little sub stories are often
left unresolved. The fact that the author goes completely off topic and rambles and then just leaves
it untouched for the rest of the story, adds to the already confusing intertwining plots and timelines.
The actual mission that the Rangers endured was entrancing all on its own . There is absolutely no
need for pages upon pages of useless side missions and

Information About Oil And Natural Gas Extraction Industry
To:Dr. Maria D. Davidson
From:Nicolas HardawayNH
Date:September 18, 2014
Subject:Information about Oil and Natural Gas Extraction Industry
This Report requested by the principal financial investor, Dr. Maria D. Davidson, includes
information required to make an informed decision on whether or not to diversify into the Oil and
Natural Gas Extraction industry. The Oil and Natural Gas Extraction industry is involved in the
processes required to find and extract crude oil and natural gas. The Oil and Natural Gas industry
has performed well in recent years despite economic challenges due to the help of new techniques
and technologies that have allowed the industry to quickly recover after economic setbacks.
What are the Major Components of the Oil and Gas Extraction Industry?
Major Operations that this industry is involved in include the exploration and drilling of crude oil,
and the extraction of natural gasses. Once the oil and gas is extracted, these companies now are
responsible for processing the material to then be sold to industries that then either refine crude oil
or distribute natural gas.
Extraction
Traditionally, large drills are used to extract crude oil from the ground or in offshore deposits. With
these techniques, large amounts of crude oil has been left untouched because it was uneconomical
to attempt to retrieve the oil. But, with new techniques such as hydraulic fracturing and horizontal
drilling, it can now become more efficient for companies to go

Effects Of Social And Economic Groupings To Their Members
Global social and economic groupings have significant beneficial effects for their members.
Discuss the extent to which you agree with this statement (40)
It is beneficial to us when assessing said statement to begin by considering the main reasons for the
formation of social and economic groupings. First and foremost considering the 4 main types of
alliances. Between Free Trade Areas and Customs Unions it is fair to say that the main goal is to
restrict imports from non member countries, in turn allowing the economies of the member
countries to flourish and provide for themselves, amongst themselves, in terms of trade. Common

This is feared to possibly lead towards cultural homogenisation, as member countries begin to lose
their identities certainly politically, as the EU becomes a supposed super state. While others will
argue that this social grouping allows for a more peaceful situation between all member countries,
this was especially true following World War 2; which in itself lead to the creation of the EU. As
well as arguing that the EU allows for more accessible travel, allowing European citizens to
discover different cultures and live in better harmony.
Another well know grouping is NAFTA, a free trade agreement created in 1994 between the
United States, Canada and Mexico. This created one of the largest free trade areas of the world.
Its success has been astounding boosting trade between the member countries from $306bn to
$930bn. However in more recent assessments it has been suggested that in the long haul it has
been more damaging than helpful for Mexico; as an LEDC at the time some suggest it may have
exploited. Suggestions are based on the assumptions that as a result of the NAFTA agreement
Mexico s rate of development has been hindered. The most basic measure of economic progress,

In fact, an expert from the L.A. Sheriff s Department who testified at the Sleepy Lagoon trial is
quoted as saying:
Let us view it from the biological basis. . . Total disregard for human life has always been
universal throughout the Americas in the human population. And this Mexican element feels a
desire to kill or at least to draw blood (Tobar, 1997). On top of the racism faced in the courtroom
was the media bias against the Mexican American population. In the process of covering events in
the city, the then Hearst owned papers did a series of articles on the pachuco gangs, depicting
Mexican American neighborhoods as being fraught with violence, places of raping and
pillaging (Tobar, 1997). This was the atmosphere of the city at the time of the Sleepy Lagoon
murder in 1942, when the body of Jose Diaz was found at a common swimming hole after a
party. Because of the public outrage over pachuco gangs, which was instigated by the media, the
sheriff s department went on a sweep of the city s barrios, rounding up and arresting over 600
young men in connection to the Sleepy Lagoon case. Eventually 24 men were indicted for murder,

White Vs. Board Of Education Essay
There are many cases in history that have a racial element like segregation to it. One of the most
important, influential, and more well known court cases that dealt with segregation was Brown
vs Board of Education of Topeka. It is commonly understood that Brown vs Board of Education
dealt with a little girl suing because she wanted to attend an all white school in her
neighborhood. In reality, the case was far more complex than that. In December, 1952, the U.S.
Supreme Court had on its docket cases from Kansas, Delaware, the District of Colombia, South
Carolina, and Virginia, all of which challenged the constitutionality of racial segregation in public
schools (Citation Here). The U.S. Supreme Court consolidated the five court cases into one and
gave it the name that is well known, Brown vs the Board of Education. This case would lead the
way in challenging segregation in United States school systems and creating and education system
that was more equal for minorities. In Delaware there were two separate cases that had similar
issues. The first case was Belton vs Gebhart, and that dealt with parents being forced to send their
children to a run down segregated high school away from their neighborhood, rather than an all
white school that was in their community. The other case, Bulah vs Gebhart, was brought forward
by a parent who was trying to get bus transportation for the black children in her town. Her main

so they can be informed of what s working and what is not. For this reason, Web analytics, to a
certain extent, can drive business results. Along with its increasing popularity, there have been
arguments over what should be the ratio for investment on the tools and the intelligent resource. It
goes without saying that web analyticstools are valuable in gathering data across all the pages in a
website and reporting it in neat graphs. However, tools today are still very limited in their capacity
to recommend actions to top managers. This crucial step... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second, most web analytics tools tend to provide a massive amount of data, but they fail to produce
a meaningful overall picture for managers. Magnificent success comes from the brains behind the
people who can answer business questions and not the tool which can only spew out data. To get
maximum value from data captured, independent of tool, we need to drive success from the brains
behind the people who will provide key insight analysis.
Data is important to any business, but it is of no value to the manager if all the work only
involves collecting and reporting data without the ability to drive business decisions. Web tools
like Yahoo web analytics and Google Analytics are good at answering the what questions, for
example, what happened on this page today? or What was the best marketing channel last year in
terms of site revenue? It cannot be denied that this information is valuable; however, successful
business decisions cannot come from these analytics tools alone. They cannot offer the insights
that an analytics expert can by digging through the maze of data to find meaningful information. In
a word, the Web analytics tool is only useful when it is used by a certified analytics person.
However, some companies fall into the trap of data. They are

Essay on The Character of Robert Cohn in The Sun Also Rises
The Character of Robert Cohn in The Sun Also Rises
WWI consumed the lives of millions. Those lucky enough to have lived through the war did not
necessarily to get away unscathed. Many war survivors had lost a large chunk of something called
hope. Hope feeds the soul and is the fuel for love. Hope also supplies meaning in a confusing world.
Lacking hope and love, feelings of disillusionment, loneliness, inadequacy, and alienation were
commonplace.
The characters in Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises struggled with this, particularly Robert Cohn.
Cohn was a ray of hope that people just couldn t bear. As in a dark room when someone opened the

All of the characters were dealing with this whole issue of self. Cohn, however, dealt with his
problems in a different way. He cared nothing for boxing, in fact he disliked it, but he learned it
painfully and thoroughly to counteract the feeling of inferiority and shyness he felt on being
treated as a Jew at Princeton. Cohn was willing to work and suffer physically to try to gain back
some of what he wanted acceptance and love. The others tried to simply escape their problems
in sex, alcohol, work, or fishing. This is a similarity between Cohn and Romero. Although
boxing is not as threatening as fighting bulls, the work and torment and sweat involved show
the hope that they have that the end result is worth the work and pain. Cohn believed that true
love existed, but he had never known it. For four years his horizon had been absolutely limited
to his wife. For three years, or almost three years, he had never seen beyond Frances. I am sure
he had never been in love in his life. She [Frances] was very forceful, and Cohn never had a
chance of not being taken in hand. Also he was sure that he loved her.
Robert Cohn had two rather lengthy relationships both three years or more. He did not fall in and
out of love as quickly as the

Summary Of Bilingual Childhood By Richard Rodriguez
Approximately 37 million people speak both English and Spanish in the United States and have
experienced a feeling of discrimination or rejection. Richard Rodriguez s memoir called Aria: A
Memoir Of A Bilingual Childhood demonstrates this with a personal experience. This memoir was
taken from the book Hunger Of Memory which was originally published in 1982 . The events in
this memoir occur specifically in the 1900s, when the author was a young boy, entering an
American schoolfor the first time. One of the main issues displayed in his memoir is when
Rodriguez recalls being labeled as a problem student being a Hispanic American student in an all
white school. Another issue displayed in this memoir is the difficulties he had had to learn
English meantime he felt more comfortable with Spanish. Being discriminated and not being able
to adapt to two different languages is a struggle more than half of the world deals with. This is
truly a serious issue because this could potentially be the origin of socially feeling uncomfortable.
The purpose of this memoir was to tell the reader that individuality can come from both one s
private and public communities, but that does not mean that one loses himself. The audience
attracted to this memoir are foreigners in America. This memoir is directed to immigrants and other
foreign people who have experienced the same difficulty of learning a new public language in
America. Rodriguez wrote in his memoir about the struggles he

Analysis Of The Most Dangerous GameAndMarionettes Inc.
The main purpose of writing is to provide readers with life lessons that they can learn from to
contribute beneficially on this earth. The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, Marionettes
Inc. by Ray Bradbury, and The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant all provide much insight on one
specific lesson. The Most Dangerous Gameis about a General that hunts humans, and he has never
lost, but this time he met his match with Rainsford. Marionettes Inc is about a man named
Braling that replaces himself with a identical robot so he may go to Rio without his wife finding
out, but the robot may just take over his whole existence. The Necklace is about a woman
named Madame Loisel, she borrows a necklace for a party in order to look wealthy, but she loses
the necklace and goes into poverty from buying a replacement to give to her friend. These three
works all confirm that being too self absorbed leads to selfish actions that often harm the causative
person more than others; this is demonstrated when the characters put their needs before others in
order to fulfill their own personal desires. Specifically, The Most Dangerous Game , exemplifies
General Zaroff as egocentric through his unethical actions that he thought would benefit his self
worth, but really the actions destroyed his life. Zaroff feels The weak of the world were put here
to give the strong pleasure. I am strong... I hunt the scum of the earth: sailors from tramp ships

Marco Polo- An Exploratory Essay
Many children, including myself, have once played the game Marco Polo. Although, I have
always been curious, who exactly is Marco Polo? My fascination of Marco Polo warped into a
fixation of his travels. Marco Polo was born in Venice in the year 1254. His father, Nicolo, and
his uncle, Maffeo, were merchants who had seats in the great nobleman council of Venice (Polo
IV). According to his records, he had traveled thousands of miles with his father and uncle. Marco,
Nicolo and Maffeo (known as the Polos) left Venice, and did not return for twenty six years. Upon
their return, they were not welcomed in Venice. The Polos were long thought to have been dead.

He called this city the City of Heaven (Freedman 41); Marcos wrote, It is without a doubt the
finest and most splendid city in the world (Freedman 41). However, Marco Polo s last stop was in
China, a place so different and interesting compared to his own; he spent the majority of his time
there. After about a three and a half year journey, Marco noted that the Polos arrived in the court of
Kublai Khan, the conqueror of China. The Great Khan ruled a vast empire of prosperous cities that
had richer goods, services, and technology than any place in Europe that Marco had ever seen
(Freedman 6). Kublai Khan was the grandson of the infamous Genghis Khan, the fearless Mongol
who swept across Asia and the Middle East generations earlier. When the Polos arrived in
Shangdu (the capitol of Kublai Khan s empire), the Mongol empire stretched from China, to
Russia and Iraq; the empire was at the pinnacle of its existence (Polo 26). Marco stated that he
soon rose to a position of power in Kublai Khan s court, because Mublai Khan was pleased by
Marco s knowledge and logic. Marco endeavored on confidential missions to learn about all kinds
of different matters in the countries he visited, in order to satisfy the curiosity of the Great Khan

Kublai Khan; however, they eventually grew homesick and began their

The Intellectual Property Rights Of The North American...
Introduction to the Intellectual Property Rights
In a general term, intellectual property is any person s human intellect, which is often protected by
law, in order to safeguard its use from another person. The possession of such kind of property
generates limited monopoly in the safeguarded property. Intellectual property can be subdivided
into copyrights, patents, trademark and trade secrets (Intellectual Property Rights, 2014).
The law protects the Intellectual Property so that the people who created and invented the property
can get appreciation and even in some cases monetary benefits from what they created. Every
country has different laws regarding the protection of intellectual property. There are even some

Still there is some difference between the Intellectual property law and the tangible property. Where
the right of exclusive possession is sole of the rights safeguarding the real and at the core of the
bundle of rights protecting real and personal property, things are different in the intellectual
property ( Intellectual Property Rights, 2014). In the USA, the Congress gets the control to monitor
patents and copyright from the INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY clause of the Constitution. The
Article I, Section 8 of the constitution says about it. The U.S. office of Patent and Trademark is
authorized to regulate federally registered patents and trademarks. Even though the patents are only
regulated through federal law, trademarks can also be governed through State law. Copyrights are
particularly controlled through federal law and have to be recorded through the U.S. Copyright
Office (Intellectual Property Rights, 2014).
United States Copyright law is regulated by the federal Copyright Act of 1976. The exclusive
rights can be seen in appendix A. The innovation recorded Works before 1978 currently has a

Kristoff s Essay Saudis In Bikinis
The essay titIed, Saudis in Bikinis , talks about women in Saudi Arabia. I agree with what
Kristoff about the Saudi women s practices being foolish. (Kristoff 176) The reason why I think
they are foolish is because it just seems to me that these rules are misogynistic and
discriminatory. I believe Women should be able to dress how they want and do what they please.
There are a variety of reasons why practices such as forbidding them to drive and making them
dress a certain way should be considered inappropriate. There are many things woman in Saudi
Arabiacannot do. Among them are swim, drive, and go anywhere without their Husband.( Eleven
http://www.theweek.co.uk/)
One is that what the Saudis believe to be true is not true. Evidence of that can be seen in the
United States. In this country woman are allowed to drive. Statistics show that woman both
cause less accidents and the amount of damages also costs less (source: 2007 AAMI claims data)
I also believe that all women should be allowed to dress the way they want to dress. What shows
that what Saudis do is discriminatory is that we do not see men having to walk around in specific

Evidence for this can be where it talks about woman only needing to read or write (Kristoff 176)
Because of this woman only receive basic education. As a result they only don t learn about things

Therefore, more than 160 governments met in Tokyo in 1997 to draft the Tokyo Portal to advocate
reduction of GHG emission and set emission reduction targets.
As an important construction material, the Portland cement has been widely used in construction
industry around the world. The Portland cement clinker is made from calcinations of limestone and
siliceous materials where de carbonation occurs. The reaction:
C_a гЂ–COгЂ—_3вџ¶C_a O+гЂ–COгЂ—_2
The production of Portland cement is high energy consumption and produce large amount
emission of CO2. Previous research indicates that 0.98kg of CO2 will be created by production of
1kg of Portland cement, including 0.53g from decarbonisation, 0.33g from burning process plus
0.12g from generation of electricity power required. Therefore, for every ton of cement produced,
an approximately equal amount of carbon dioxide is relapsed in to atmosphere [2й їдё‰]. The
world cement industry contributes 7% of total CO2 emission [3]. This leads to the research of
seeking more environmental friendly cements. One of these alternative materials is alkali activated

The Masque Of Blackness Essay
In 17th Century England, the idea of different races and cultures was new, and therefore, a novelty;
anything that differed from the norm was highly valued and sought after. Noble people and
professional actors took advantage of this and put on The Masque of Blackness, a production in
which many of its actors appeared in blackface. The masques were elaborate performances, made to
praise the monarch, with larger than life costumes and staging that combined songs, dances, and
acting into a presentation that depicted gods and goddesses, and pastoral settings. Although the
play is meant to be for entertainment, it begins to cross lines when the performance becomes a
spectacle of racism and exoticism. In Benjamin Jonson s The Masqueof... Show more content on

But eventually, his fame led him to King James court. At the request of Queen Anne of Denmark,
wife to King James I of England, he wrote The Masque of Blackness. The masque was written as
the discovery of the New World and global expansion into Africa was occurring. This influx of
new cultures, races, religions, and other ideas created the perfect chance for Jonson to bring these
concepts to the court stage and please the monarchs whom the praise would be focused on.
The Masque of Blackness first premiered in 1605 in the banquet hall of Whitehall Palace in
London, England at the height of global expansion. The banquet hall itself was temporary at this
time, but was later built by the architect, Inigo Jones, who also staged The Masque of Blackness. It
was rebuilt in 1619 after the previous hall burned down in a fire and completed. The hall was used
for entertainment purposes, especially designed to put on the elaborate masques and other
performances. Queen Anne and her ladies of the court got to be the main characters of the masque
because of Anne s status and because she chose the topic. Jonson annotates in the masque: Hence,
because it was her majesty s will to have them blackmoors at first, the invention was derived by me.

Peter Singer Arguments Against Euthanasia
Euthanasia refers to the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease
or in an irreversible coma (Oxford Dictionaries, 2014). It is this taking of life that has become the
core of many philosophical arguments and theories in the 20th and 21st centuries. A person that
constructed multiple philosophical view points on euthanasiais Australian thinker Peter Singer.
Singer developed multiple arguments revolving around euthanasia one of which helps him justify
voluntary euthanasia and it is that killing a self conscious being is a more serious matter than
killing a merely conscious being. He gave four grounds on which this could be argued on. The first
being that the classical utilitarian claim that since self conscious beings are capable of fearing their
own death, killing them has worse effects on others.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third a theory of rights according to which to have a right one must have the ability to desire
that to which one has a right, so that to have a right to life one must be able to desire one s own
continued existence; and lastly respect for the autonomous decisions of rational agents. (Singer,
1993, p. 195)
Singers first point that the classical utilitarian claim that since self conscious beings are capable
of fearing their own death, killing them has worse effects on others. This point doesn t become
plausible when social imagination is applied and the view point of the said person is viewed.
The person wishing to end their life is doing it for a reason and obviously isn t afraid of what lies
after death because they are asking for their life to be terminated. If the

How Does Shakespeare Use Humor In Twelfth Night
Humans have been on this planet for an estimated 200,000 years and yet we are still a cruel and
immoral species that finds the pain and manipulation of others amusing. Though the Twelfth Night
written by William Shakespeare takes place 400 years ago the humor in it has not changed as
people still find humour in Sir Andrew s antics, laugh at Malvolio s imprisonment, and giggle at the
misfortune of Antonio. The reason for that is simple; it is in human nature to mock others.
One example of Sir Andrew s abuse comes from before his first line is spoken. Maria is
reprimanding Sir Toby for his drinking and bringing is a knave too woo lady Olivia Sir Toby
reasons with her saying Why, he has three thousand ducats a year. (the Twelfth Night
, William
Shakespeare 1.3.20) This shows that Sir Toby does not care to reason that he has a kind heart or a
fine personality but only wealth for drinking. Because of this fact Sir Toby reveals his
manipulation in the final act resulting in humour at Sir Andrews expense. Sir Toby is shown to be
one of the main contributors to Sir Andrew s manipulation like when Sir Andrew wishes to leave
on the grounds that Olivia is being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case of his imprisonment Malvolio is poked fun at again because of his inability to see or
hear the situation. While Feste is mocks Malvolio in disguise Malvolio states that it is dark and
prompts the reply Fie, thou dishonest Satan! (I call thee by the most / modest terms, for I am one
of those gentle ones that will / use the devil himself with courtesy.) Say st thou that the / house is
dark? (4.2.30 34) Fest continues to mock him in this manner while weaponizing his inability to see
again creating humour. Though Malvolio is not a favourable character and an easy target for
humour to spring from yet no one deserves this kind of

Proposal Of Action At A Nearby Facility
The purpose of this proposal is to discuss a plan of action in another nearby facility. As a small
business, we are not capable of providing meals due to lack of space in our business. We are
requesting the empty building next door to continue feeding our local children while observing
bidding cost, structure, current numbers, and goals. These procedures will evaluate the adaptation
of another structure without sacrificing the well being of the children that are increasing in
numbers. One of the greatest feelings in the world is knowing that we as individuals can make a
difference. Ending hunger in America is a goal that is literally within our grasp. (Bridges) Our main
goal is to strengthen and motivate our community while ensuring a... Show more content on

Although, the summer days may be beautiful, there may be days where the air quality is poor due
to surrounding fires in the area, and the weather may not be acceptable for the children to be
outside with rising temperatures here in Anchorage. We have evaluated multiple possibilities, and it
has come to our attention that the building next door has been foreclosed and has remained vacant
in the past year. The building has been remodeled prior to vacancy and is large enough to provide
all the amenities needed. We are currently observing the bids and reviewing the floor plans of the
structure. This building was at one time a Senior Recreation Center with everything we need to
continue our program. The maintenance of the grounds is currently under the City of Anchorage.
Utilities for the building is also functioned by multiple generators. This is an excellent location for
the children because there would be no need to relocate. This will ensure that these children will
continue to receive free nutritious meals during the summer. Their parents are fully aware that their
children are in a safe environment with trained staff, and they know that their children are provided
with healthy meals. These meals provide a gap between the months of school without service.

Kauai Life In The 1800s
As the oldest island in Hawaii, Kauai has a wealth of history. Over the years, it has gone from
ancient battlefields to a modern economy. First inhabited around 200 to 600 AD, the original
settlers most likely reached Kauai from the Marquesas Islands nearly 2,000 miles away. Since these
early immigrants arrived, an estimated 1,000 of the 1,300 species on Kauai have gone extinct.
Centuries later, the Tahitians arrived and took over the island from the shorter Marquesans.
The Arrival of James Cook
Over the next few centuries, the Tahitians created a civilized society with a strong culture, religion
and laws. Wailua was set up as a sacred birthing ground for the royal family due to its sacredness to
the society. The early of the traditions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christian missionaries began arriving in Kauai in the 1800s. In 1820, they set up the first mission
house in Waimea. The old kapu system was removed as Christian laws took over. While the
reading and writing taught by missionaries preserved Hawaiian culture for posterity, the daily
culture of the natives was slowly destroyed.
Kauai Experiences an Economic Boom
As Westerners arrived, Kauai quickly became a leading sugar producer. In Koloa Town, a sugar
mill helped to drive this economic boom. Quickly, other entrepreneurs followed suit to create sugar
plantations. They brought in immigrants from across the world to boost the workforce. These new
immigrants gave rise to the unique blend of cultures that exist within Kauai today.
For a brief time period, sugar and pineapple production comprised a large part of the economy. As
these industries fell, tourism became increasingly popular. Ultimately, Kauai lost its constitutional
monarchy in 1893. A group of foreigners conspired to end the Kingdom of Hawaiibecause the
constitution that was being amended was not in their best interests. Following a revolution, Hawaii
became a United States territory in the 1900s. Later on, it joined the United States as a state in

Uic Vocal Jazz Ensemble Concert Report
The UIC Vocal Jazz Ensemble started the performance first. The ensemble consisted of thirteen
members, and they opened the performance with a Christmas carol. There were three males and
four female soloists who were scat singing. The ending of the song was very cool when the male
soloist said, Better watch out now . The song was very interesting and created a delightful
atmosphere to start the performance along with the Christmas spirit. The second song that the
ensemble performed was called In the Mellow Tone by Duke Ellington. They also took turn to
sing solo and scat singing. The male singers also sung a little part without instrumental towards
the end of the song. The next performance was a duet of the Best Part by Daniel Caesar and H. E.

My Grown Up Christmas by Kelly Clarkson. There were four female and two male soloists.
When the soloist sang, everyone sang the harmony part. This pop song was very meaningful,
inspirational, and quite emotional about the grown up Christmas list that we wished for
everyone in the world not just for ourselves. The UIC Vocal Jazz Ensemble ended their
performance with Daddy Lessons from the album Lemonade by BeyoncГ©. This is a country and
blue song. This song was a an excellent choice to end their performance because it was very
entertaining with the scat singing and funny acting like people are exchanging a conversation. The
Jazz Combo is quite small with five members who played trumpet, baritone saxophone, double
bass, guitar, and drum. The performance opened with Doxy by Sonny Rollins. This is a hard bop

Krakauer And Mccandless Similarities
Krakauer is now an adult person with greater experience of a 23 year old, in where he lived a
life like McCandless, which is a person that has the experience to talk about Chris McCandless
death. Krakauer and McCandless both went into the wilderness of Alaska, but for different
reasons. About the same age I was twenty three a year younger than McCandless (Krakauer 135).
Krakauer decides to go into the wild because of the idea of claiming of his idol Edward, edward

In the author s notes he put Through most of the book, I have tried and largely succeeded, I
think to to minimize my authorial presence. But let the reader be warned: I interrupt
McCandless s story with fragments of a narrative drawn from my own youth. I do so in the hope
that my experiences will throw some oblique light on the enigma of Chris McCandless
(Krakauer 2). By telling us that he will add some stories of his own make us realize that
Krakauer has some relation with McCandless and it make us think that this book is more
believable. In the book when he tells us that Chris just died for a simple mistake and tries to
relate it to himself by telling the story of how he started to realized that going into the wilderness
will change his life he emphasizes I would go to Alaska, ski inland from the sea across thirty
miles of glacial ice, and ascend this mighty nordwand. I decide, moreover, to do it alone. Just
like McCandless, Krakauer had a lot in common with him, they both went into the wild of
Alaska, which gives a lot of experience to krakauer to talk about McCandless death. In order for
Krakauer to make McCandless not a crazy kid he made some other similarities between
McCandless and some other people that died, with a lot of characteristics similar to McCandless
and himself. Krakauer is the ideal person to criticate

While many others say he is the man who saved Cuba and is their national hero. In the biography Fidel Castro by Volker Skierka, Castro is portrayed as a national hero. While looking at the cover the readers are able to see Castro smoking a cigar, which set a tranquil tone for the rest of the book. Depending on different cultures or even different regions of the world, the meaning of natural behavior may differ. In a modern society, I would say that unnatural behaviors are those that target the life of another humanin any form. In other words, behaviors like murder, terrorist arrangements, child abuse, etc are done in order to place another life at risk of survival. If it is in your human nature to be a good person and help others, then your morality is related to your human nature. Good morals enables humans to shape their personality and to an extent predict their future endearments. For example, as we grow older we know to talk with manners, to be respectable, and listen when someone else is talking. Furthermore, we grow more and learn to not cheat and to be kind to elders and young children. These are morals we learn to abide to, but also become human nature. Whereas, if an individual has an evil, harmful human nature, then their morality is also related to that and those are the people that hurt and kill others. Oryx and Crake Essay December 12, 2013 The Importance of Childhood in Oryx And Crake In Atwood s novel Oryx and Crake we see the cause and effect of how our childhood and how we are raised has a large correlation to what type of adult we become. Through the character of Jimmy and later his new persona Snowman, the reader is shown the detrimental effects of an abandoned childhood. Not only do Jimmy s poor choices in his adult life have a clear link to his neglected and unguided childhood they also create an adult that is emotionally damaged and unable to see the right path in his life even when he wants to. Once the world s inhabitants are wiped out, Snowman is left with the task of taking care of the Crakers. Whether it is the fact that Snowman wants to be the parent he never had, or if he just simply doesn t want to lose his only somewhat human interactions, it is evident that he cares about these creatures. In the time of crisis he exhibits a compassionate reasonability toward the Crakers because it is his duty to look after the new race of humans. Perhaps the only positive by product of his dysfunctional childhood is that he knows what it is like to be deserted and left uncared for so he strives now in his adulthood as Snowman to protect the Crakers as best he can. Even though Crakers original vision for these creature was to make them Godless and without art, Snowman taught them things in there childhood that contradicted there original thoughts. Snowman teaches them about the world and tries to make them understand their surroundings better, even though his explanations make him feel isolated and alone; reminding him of the sad childhood that he had. Does the power struggle still exist in the 21st Century and are teacher s encouraging the inequality of power instead of addressing issues at school? (Indent)In the past, countries like South Africa experienced a power struggle called the Apartheid. White South Africans were seen as the Superior race and were allowed privileges that other races were denied. Being born and raised in South Africa after Apartheid, where it is now called a Democracy. The power struggle is still just as ripe and evident as it was back then, it is just in reverse. Now the Black people are allowed privileges and the White people are denied them. It seems like only those in power; wealth and literacy are heard out and are able to actually make a change. Today, a similar fight for power is evident in classrooms, work places and all over the world. Mary Louise Pratt, a woman of the Elite MLA Academy presented a speech, Art of the contact zone to expose the students and faculty to the contact zone. Pratt uses a very clever technique by starting off with the story with personal illustrations and then leaves us dumbfounded by the points her essay makes about the inequality of power. One of the most important, influential, and more well known court cases that dealt with segregation was Brown vs Board of Education of Topeka. It is commonly understood that Brown vs Board of Education dealt with a little girl suing because she wanted to attend an all white school in her neighborhood. In reality, the case was far more complex than that. In December, 1952, the U.S. Supreme Court had on its docket cases from Kansas, Delaware, the District of Colombia, South Carolina, and Virginia, all of which challenged the constitutionality of racial segregation in public schools (Citation Here). The U.S. Supreme Court consolidated the five court cases into one and gave it the name that is well known, Brown vs the Board of Education. This case would lead the way in challenging segregation in United States school systems and creating and education system that was more equal for minorities. In Delaware there were two separate cases that had similar issues. Cohn was willing to work and suffer physically to try to gain back some of what he wanted acceptance and love. The others tried to simply escape their problems in sex, alcohol, work, or fishing. This is a similarity between Cohn and Romero. Although boxing is not as threatening as fighting bulls, the work and torment and sweat involved show the hope that they have that the end result is worth the work and pain. • 24. Summary Of Bilingual Childhood By Richard Rodriguez Approximately 37 million people speak both English and Spanish in the United States and have experienced a feeling of discrimination or rejection. Richard Rodriguez s memoir called Aria: A Memoir Of A Bilingual Childhood demonstrates this with a personal experience. This memoir was taken from the book Hunger Of Memory which was originally published in 1982 . The events in this memoir occur specifically in the 1900s, when the author was a young boy, entering an American schoolfor the first time. One of the main issues displayed in his memoir is when Rodriguez recalls being labeled as a problem student being a Hispanic American student in an all white school. Another issue displayed in this memoir is the difficulties he had had to learn English meantime he felt more comfortable with Spanish. Being discriminated and not being able to adapt to two different languages is a struggle more than half of the world deals with. This is truly a serious issue because this could potentially be the origin of socially feeling uncomfortable. The purpose of this memoir was to tell the reader that individuality can come from both one s private and public communities, but that does not mean that one loses himself. The audience attracted to this memoir are foreigners in America. This memoir is directed to immigrants and other foreign people who have experienced the same difficulty of learning a new public language in America. Rodriguez wrote in his memoir about the struggles he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Analysis Of The Most Dangerous GameAndMarionettes Inc. The main purpose of writing is to provide readers with life lessons that they can learn from to contribute beneficially on this earth. The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, Marionettes Inc. by Ray Bradbury, and The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant all provide much insight on one specific lesson. The Most Dangerous Gameis about a General that hunts humans, and he has never lost, but this time he met his match with Rainsford. Marionettes Inc is about a man named Braling that replaces himself with a identical robot so he may go to Rio without his wife finding out, but the robot may just take over his whole existence. The Necklace is about a woman named Madame Loisel, she borrows a necklace for a party in order to look wealthy, but she loses the necklace and goes into poverty from buying a replacement to give to her friend. These three works all confirm that being too self absorbed leads to selfish actions that often harm the causative person more than others; this is demonstrated when the characters put their needs before others in order to fulfill their own personal desires. Specifically, The Most Dangerous Game , exemplifies General Zaroff as egocentric through his unethical actions that he thought would benefit his self worth, but really the actions destroyed his life. Zaroff feels The weak of the world were put here to give the strong pleasure. I am strong... I hunt the scum of the earth: sailors from tramp ships lassars, blacks, Chinese, whites, ... • 26. Marco Polo- An Exploratory Essay Many children, including myself, have once played the game Marco Polo. Although, I have always been curious, who exactly is Marco Polo? My fascination of Marco Polo warped into a fixation of his travels. Marco Polo was born in Venice in the year 1254. His father, Nicolo, and his uncle, Maffeo, were merchants who had seats in the great nobleman council of Venice (Polo IV). According to his records, he had traveled thousands of miles with his father and uncle. Marco, Nicolo and Maffeo (known as the Polos) left Venice, and did not return for twenty six years. Upon their return, they were not welcomed in Venice. The Polos were long thought to have been dead. When they arrived in Venice, their clothes were old and worn out; the things that... However, Marco Polo s last stop was in China, a place so different and interesting compared to his own; he spent the majority of his time there. After about a three and a half year journey, Marco noted that the Polos arrived in the court of Kublai Khan, the conqueror of China. The Great Khan ruled a vast empire of prosperous cities that had richer goods, services, and technology than any place in Europe that Marco had ever seen (Freedman 6). Kublai Khan was the grandson of the infamous Genghis Khan, the fearless Mongol who swept across Asia and the Middle East generations earlier. When the Polos arrived in Shangdu (the capitol of Kublai Khan s empire), the Mongol empire stretched from China, to Russia and Iraq; the empire was at the pinnacle of its existence (Polo 26). Marco stated that he soon rose to a position of power in Kublai Khan s court, because Mublai Khan was pleased by Marco s knowledge and logic. Marco endeavored on confidential missions to learn about all kinds of different matters in the countries he visited, in order to satisfy the curiosity of the Great Khan (Hart 35).
