Essay about State Wrestling Championship
In the first 20 seconds of the match, I had the first take down. I was working crossfaces, cheap tilts,
and everything else I knew after my takedown. Then, I did what I do best and gave him a swift, hard
crossface and cradeled him up. Squeezing with all my strength and might it took about 7 seconds of
him being on his back and he was pinned! It took a total of 55 seconds to pin my first opponent at
state.
After my win, my team was lined up to congratulate me; I was the only member from our team to pin
their opponent. The feeling of the referee raising my arm was one of the, if not, the best overwhelming
feeling I ve ever felt in my life. Knowing that I won that match on my own gave me great confidence
that I was just as good as anyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I thought he was going to rip my whole body apart and slap me around on the mat. I knew that wasn t
the right way to think going into a match so I kept telling myself that I would win. Petro Risner,
Mayberry Hotchkiss, mat 4, said the announcer. With my legs wobbling arms tingling and heart
pumping away, I stepped out onto the mat. The referee got ready, and there it was, the whistle. I sat
there crouched down, ready to shoot in for the first take down, but for some reason I couldn t. We tied
up head to head. I could feel his strength by his tight grip. We separated and I suddenly got a big burst
of adrenaline. Boom, I shot in at his legs and two points went to me with the first take down. After that
take down, everything I thought before was gone. I wasn t afraid of this kid. I was just letting myself
think I was. I knew that I was not going to lose this match. When the clock ran out in the third period,
the score was 9 8 in my favor. I did it. I defeated Jeff Petro in a tough 6 minutes of wrestling. It was
Probably the toughest match I ve ever had to wrestle.
There I was with 2 wins and on my way to the semi finals. Only 2 of my teammates had made it that
far. My first opponent the next day would be Bryce. As our team left the Pepsi Center and started
heading for our hotel, there were some people disappointed and some proud of how we had wrestled.
We got to our hotel and got settled in with

Knights Research Paper
According to the urban dictionary a knight is a man who served his sovereign or lord as a mounted
soldier in armor . In other words a professional killer. Even though we view Knights as professional
warriors, we failed to see that they were much more than a warrior. Knights were not merely
professional warriors: knighthood includes guidelines that one must follow: the notion of social status,
political power, legal classification, and cultural expressions of knightly identity bravery, honor,
loyalty, and service to a woman. Knights are the emblematic warriors of the European Middle Ages.
(Knights: In History and Legend, pg. 15) Knights first surfaced between the years of 1000 1350 after
the fall of the Roman Empire. After the fall of the Roman Empire also known as The Medieval Period,
Europe was dominated by a feudal system, which consisted of God being the supreme ruler, then a

Not to mention that the armor was extremely expensive. Knights in early Middle Ages, using

they faced the risk of an ill fitting suit of armor hampering them in battle. Other than using leather for

mail , small, interwoven steel rings , was very popular among blacksmiths and armorers because it
was easy to do, cheaper than other armor, and it could effectively deflect weapons. But soon
blacksmiths learned how to do plated armor and it was much better in certain areas that the chain mail

Essay on Cruel and Unusual Punishment
The death penalty also known as capital punishment is an execution in which the person who
committed the offence is put to death by the state. It was first practiced in Jamestown colony, 1608.
The person was hanged for spying for the Spanish government and was the 1st person sentenced to
death in America. Since then, it has been a form to punish the criminals for committing such heinous
crimes and putting end to violence and crime rates. Despite how people agree that the death penalty is
justifiable, however; it still violates the international human rights laws. These laws were created to
protect the lives of all human beings including the criminals, who some might agree they do not
deserve to live. Even though some might say that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Justice can be interpreted in many ways such as being able fair or wanting someone to suffer for what
they did. However, death is not always the solution to every problem which involves a murder. In the
United States alone there are thirty five states that still have the death penalty while only fifteen states
have repealed it. In the United States, about 13,000 people have been legally executed since colonial
times . How does America respond to this?
The United States is supposed to represent freedom, liberty, and peace. However, the death penalty
contradicts everything the founding fathers built America on. Everyone is entailed to life even though
they commit terrible crimes. Technology advancements are rapidly growing which is supposed to
allow less pain in time of execution. So far in 2011 there have been eight executions and three more
executions are going to be taken place on March 10, 29 and 31. Many people are killed by lethal
injections, electrocutions, gas chamber, hanging, or a firing squad. These killing methods are both
immoral and unconstitutional because they are killing the people like animals. This is an endless
vicious cycle of murder and revenge that continues because the people have a desire to get revenge on
the people who killed their loved one. Even thought that loved one will never return and enjoy life
before it was quickly taken away. In the United States there are about 3,230 Death Row inmates

Kinder Morgan
Kinder Morgan MBO Richard Kinder and Bill Morgan purchased a master limited partnership
pipeline company from Enron for $40 million in 1997, founding Kinder Morgan, Inc. (KMI) 1. The
primary benefit of an MLP comes in the form of tax savings. While shareholders in a corporation face
double taxation, owners of a partnership are taxed only once (when receiving distributions). Corporate
income tax does not exist in the partnership. When cash distributions to MLP owners exceed
partnership the difference is counted as a return of capital to the limited partner and taxed at the capital
gains rate when the unit holder sells. This creates a pass through entity that is sustainable as long as
90% of the cash flow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both of these assets (like most of KMI s assets) were exposed to commodity price risk. However,
KMI saw opportunity for long term gains as they internally projected high commodity prices. Tied in
with projections for commodity pricing is the undervaluation of the company. A major incentive for
management in this buyout is clearly this undervaluation. KMI had been valued between $100 and
120 a share, yet was trading at only $84. KMI had experienced five years of increasing revenues and
its net income was on an upward trend. KMI was financially healthy and its vast infrastructure would
only continue to generate cash flows. It was a perfect buy low scenario for the investors that knew the
firm the best, the managers. Buy Low, Sell High There are conflicting desires at work, as management
may not be acting in the best interest of its shareholders. To try and dispute agency conflict, Kinder
established a special committee to make decisions regarding the privatization proposal. The committee
was committed to executing due diligence in finding other alternatives, as well as, negotiating with
any buyout group. MBO s can be stressful on boards as they feel there is no choice. If the board
declines, they will be left not only without a deal, but also with displeased management. Moreover,
other bidders are less inclined to commit because they do not have management support. The

Great Political Debates
The Great Political Debate Ben Franklin once said there is only two certainties in life, death and taxes.
Although you may not agree with this statement, it does provide two key topics that are highly
debated amongst parties of the United States democracy. In terms of death, abortion and the death
penalty are debated topics that each party has a different stance on. Those topics are an area of
government that do not have a consensus. When it comes to taxes, every party has general ambitions
on how to treat taxing citizens. Even though there are a multitude of political parties present in politics
today, the only parties that are repeatedly mentioned election after election are the democratic and
republican parties. These two parties usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The democratic party relates the issue of abortion in a court case called Roe verse Wade. In this court
case, the US Supreme Court affirmed the legality of a woman s right to have an abortion under the
14th amendment. As one can see, depending on how you interpret the 14th amendment determines the
outcome of legality. Since the Supreme Court is the final arbiter of the law, the states must grant the
right to abortion, regardless of being a red state or not. Another democratic view on abortion is that a
woman should never have to fear the ability to pay for an abortion. In the democratic platform for
America in 2004 it stated, we stand proudly for a woman s right to choose, consistent with Roe v.
Wade, and regardless of her ability to pay (Democratic platform). This is in opposition of the
republican view, as republicans do not want health care providers to provide for abortions. The
democratic view is that all women should have access to an abortion, which is most likely going to be
through health care. Overall, one can see that the democratic view on abortion differs from the
republican viewpoint through the interpretation of the 14th amendment and thoughts on paying for

Social Responsiblity-Jack Welch
1. Corporate social responsibility is defined in Chapter 5 as the corporate duty to create wealth by
using means that avoid harm to, protect, or enhance societal assets. Did GE in the Welch era fulfill this
duty? Could it have been done better? What should it have done? Jack Welch did make GE the most
valuable company in the world. He was described as the most important and influential business
leaders of the 20th Century by some Wall Street analyst. Nevertheless, Jack Welch as the CEO did not
fulfill the duty of social responsibility. He did not avoid harm or protect societal assets. Under Welch s
leadership the GE Company contributed to environmental damages in areas of the country which
manufactured GE products. One instants is GE ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paying taxes is wonderful and all but it is not the only social responsibility that a corporation should
have.
Jack Welch should have been proactive in his cleaned up the PCBs in the Hudson River, to help
prevent the harm of the fish and the citizens who live near and on this American water source. He
should have considered the layoffs and what effect outsourcing had on the US economy. It would have
been more socially responsibly to have looked for ways to enhance American work force thru
innovative ideas and partnering with other businesses in the world. In his defense, he did fulfill the
economic responsibility of paying taxes to help society; he would have done anything in his power to
lower the taxes though. He could have done more!
2. Does GE under Welch illustrate a narrower view of corporate social responsibility closer to
Friedman s view that the only social responsibility is to increase profits while obeying the law?
Welch does illustrate a narrow view of the corporate social responsibility closer to Friedman s view.
Jack Welch did believe the only social responsibility is to increase profits while obeying the law.
Welch said a CEO s primary social responsibility is to assure the financial success of the company. It
is all about hitting the numbers with Jack Welch. He did this by doing anything to lower the cost and
he delivered the growth figures that could only be dreamed by lesser companies. He improved the

Essay on Raj Patel s Stuffed and Starved
Raj Patel s Stuffed and Starved analyzes the paradoxical content in its title statement. Patel
demonstrates how the world food system has created two opposite, but inherently linked epidemics:
obesity and crippling hunger. Throughout the course of this book, it becomes painfully clear that the
majority of the world s population is being manipulated by our global food system and by the
corporations and their CEO s who control it. Patel encourages his readers to make themselves
politically responsible (313) and through Stuffed and Starved, highlights the discrepancies and major
imbalances of our world food system, the small percentage of people who benefit from it, and the vast
majority of humanity who does not. He does all this while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patel concludes that these systems favor the consumers rather than the producers. He uses Mexican
corn as an example. The price of corn in the Mexican market collapsed due to U.S imports. The U.S
corn farmers were significantly subsidized by their government, and the poor Mexican farmers had no
way to compete. Patel accuses America of using its economic and political power to strong arm
Mexico and other countries under the guise of free trade agreements. With all of the evidence Patel
presents on this topic, any reader would have a difficult time disagreeing with this assertion. Patel
makes food out to be a bargaining chip, a good that can be used to control nations and suppress
rebellions. He may not be so far off the mark. Food was used in U.S negotiations during the 1950 s
and 60 s. Nations that were susceptible to Communism were manipulated into becoming dependent on
the U.S market. America is not the only superpower that Patel takes aim at however. Britain used its
influence to control the grain trade, encouraging India and others to sell their wheat stocks. This
brought famine back to Asia, but provided cheap food for its factory workers and suppressed rebellion
at home. The food system has been increasingly used as a weapon to control weaker nations, to keep
people down, and to line the pockets of those who control it. Patel discussed companies like Monsanto
and Altria who were able to buy governmental goodwill

Television As A Place Of Fantasy And Enjoyment For An...
Television dramas in today s day and age has become a place of fantasy and enjoyment for an
audience ranging in different ages. It was created to build upon creative idea s of scriptwriters and
producers; however, the basis of these creative idea s stems from daily life occurrences that one sees
on a regular span. This can include crime, politics, family, or romance, but in reality, how many of
these ideas and scripts are an accurate representation of daily life in terms of those subjects? Edgar
Allan Poe once said that one should, Believe only half of what you see and nothing that you hear. and
this can answer the question set above. This is because realistically, society should only be believing
in half of what they see and nothing that they hear on television. The shows that are created to air on
television are built and directed in order to keep a person s interest; the accuracy of the information of
which is relayed at times are the least of a scriptwriters concerns as facts are not always as exciting as
drama. In contrast, there are exceptions in these cases and it can be seen within the media portrayed
show, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (Wolf,1999) as it shows an accurate real life
representation of court and police proceedings that is demonstrated through coerced confessions, role
of a forensic psychiatrist in a criminal affair, and a hung jury situation.

The Subjection Of Women By John Stuart Mill
Written by John Stuart Mill in 1860 1861, as the Victorian era took place in England, The Subjection
of Women is a critical piece of analysis in regards to the status of women in society and their unequal
relationship with the opposite sex. During Mill s lifetime, women were considered to be inferior to
men by custom and laws, and therefore, they were expected to be submissive in nature. Deeply
influenced by the ideas of his wife Harriet Taylor Mill, and John Stuart Mill s own beliefs, The
Subjection of Women was published in 1869, becoming a piece of literature that would not only
challenge the common views of society at the time, but would also advocate for different approaches
in light of modern times. Throughout his essay Mill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, any conclusions on woman s nature should only be taken after women have been given the
chance to truly experience equality. As Mill himself maintained:
I deny that anyone knows or can know, the nature of the two sexes, as long as they have only been
seen in their present relation to one another. Until conditions of equality exist, no one can possibly
assess the natural differences between women and men, distorted as they have been. What is natural to
the two sexes can only be found out by allowing both to develop and use their faculties freely
Another of the arguments made by John Stuart Mill in the first chapter is that even when society had
seemed to accept the idea that a person s birth should not determine his/her social position in life,
when it comes to the subordination of women there is not such acceptance. Men continue to believe
that it comes natural for women to prefer the vocation of wife and mother before anything else.
However, they choose to overlook that women across the globe have been educated into the mentality
that they are supposed to be feeble, emotional, and compliant. That they have been taught to submit to
the superiority of males and most importantly to always put first the interest of their family and their
men before her own, defining with it the way females

Artists Are Culturally Creators
In my opinion, artists are simply creators. Artists create things that are reflections of their psyche,
society at large, or anything that comes to mind. Given that the inspiration for an artist s work can be
so varied and diverse, I think it s hard to say that artists have a social responsibility given that some
artists work don t necessarily convey or reflect the feelings or ideals of the greater bulk of society.
Artistic expression is important and as soon as society begins to police or restrict the ability of an
artist to express his or herself, I think we re moving into dangerous territory as a culture. With that
said, I don t think artists should be held accountable for the work they produce. Artists should be

My Philosophy of Teaching
Philisophical teaching stratigies include the following disciplines, essentialism, existentialism, and
many others. Of these stratigies the philisophicla approaches each include a distinct direction in the

Performance appraisals are used in business today as a means of providing critical feedback to
employees on their performance in the workplace. In a global environment, particular care needs to be
exercised to ensure the message delivered and received by employees is sensitive to the cultural
differences between the parties. This document will be discussing a situation where unintended
consequences arose during a performance appraisal. The document will provide for a synopsis of the
case study, background information, and some of the strengths and weaknesses of the performance
appraisal. A review of if the situation could have been avoided and should the supervisor have
anticipated the employee reaction will also be discussed. Finally, a review of culture sensitivity in

The Marshall plan was the plan named after George Marshall on June 5, 1947, to aid Western Europe
after World War II. The winter of 1946 1947 brought intense suffering to the people of Western

Persuasive Essay About Study Abroad
Why do people leave their home countries in order to live in a foreign country? Why do they move
abroad? Some people believe that getting up and moving to a different is not hard, but it is not as easy
as it sounds. People do so for various reasons: to escape as a refugee if there are certain circumstances
and issues like a revolution or war are going in a country or immigrate to change their life forever.
In my case, I decided to move to a foreign country as an exchange student, surviving a long forty two
hour flight from my home country, Tajikistan, to the USA. Actually, it was not my own idea to study
abroad. My parents decided that it would be a great idea for me to spend my junior and senior year in
the United States as an exchange student. They have always wanted the best for me. I remember the

then but now, four years later, I realized that it actually happened and I am here, in Lincoln, Nebraska,
about to spend my second Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays in another country, thousands miles
away from home.

High alveolar ventilation brings more O2 into the alveoli, increasing O2 , and rapidly eliminating CO2
from the lungs (for chemical abbreviations see Table 2). Partial pressure of gases Dalton s law
explains the partial pressure of a gas, which is the pressure exerted by a gas within a mixture of gases
independent of each gas in the mixture (Marieb, 2004). The partial pressure of each gas is directly
proportional to its percentage in the total mixture and in air is determined by atmospheric pressure.
Atmospheric pressure is 101 kPa (760 mmHg), 21% of this air is oxygen, and the partial pressure of
oxygen (PO2 ) in atmospheric air is: 21 × 101 = 21.2 kPa 100 Within the alveoli the PO2 is different
to air because of enrichment in the air passages (dead space) with CO2 and water vapour. Alveolar air
contains much more CO2 and water vapour and much less O2 and so makes a greater contribution to
the near atmospheric pressure in the lungs, then they do in air. This is due to: gas exchanges occurring
in the lungs, humidification of air by the conducting passages, mixing of gases in the dead space
(contains air not involved in gaseous exchange) between the nose and alveoli. In alveoli, PO2
averages only 13.2 kPa (100 mmHg). Continuous consumption of O2 and production of CO2 in the
cells means that there is a partial pressure gradient both in the lungs and at the tissue level

Influenza In American History
When Europeans first came to this continent, they brought diseases with them, such as smallpox,
influenza, and tuberculosis. Later, slaves shipped to America from Africa brought even more diseases,
such as yellow fever and malaria. Ever since, American history has been riddled with infectious
diseases and epidemics. Although the United States has eliminated some horrible diseases that plagued
it in the past, and helped other countries cope with epidemics, deadly diseases still pose problems in
America.

Hydration Of Norbornene
This report concerns the acid catalyzed hydration of norbornene to produce exo norborneol. Such
hydration reactions of alkenes typically occur under acidic conditions so that a strong enough
electrophile is available in solution for the nucleophilic double bond on the alkene to successfully
attack it. This is to say, that if this reaction is done in water, with the hydrogen as the electrophile, the
O H bond is too strong for the double bond to effectively attack the hydrogen and detach it. If instead
H3O+ is available in acidic conditions, the extra proton attached to the molecule is the electrophile;
this electrophile is strong enough for the reaction to proceed. After the double bond attacks the
hydrogen, a carbocation forms as the proton attaches to the least substituted carbon of the ones
participating in the double bond. This happens because this allows the more stable carbocation to
form, as the positive charge would then exist on the more substituted carbon. The functional groups
attached to this carbocation donate their electron density to it, thus stabilizing it. This overall effect is
often called the Markovnikov rule. However, in this case the two carbons that are connected to each
other by the double bond are the same in terms of how substituted they are, and the hydrogen can
bond to either of them and still yield the same product. The resulting carbocation can then be attacked
by a water molecule. In theory, water can either attack from the top or bottom

Catherine II Life and Accomplishments Essay
Catherine II
Catherine II of Russia was one of the most influential rulers in Russian history. Catherine was born a
princess in Germany, originally named Sophie Fredericke Auguste von Anhalt Zerbst, but moved to
Russia, changed her name and married the heir to the throne (Massie 96). Prior to Catherine s reign
her husband, Peter III, whom she married at age fifteen was in power. Their marriage was an unhappy
one and Peter often was unfaithful to Catherine .Peter also proved very unpopular among the Russian
people. He was very immature and made many poor political decisions. Peter soon was overthrown
and eventually murdered. Catherine came to rule Russia shortly after the death of her husband Peter
III. She was eager to learn the ways of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Catherine had an aggressive yet realistic handle on foreign affairs. Her impressive army helped her to
defeat other nations and conquer land for Russia, increasing their size. She annexed land through the
partition of Poland and along the Baltic coast. She also allied with Austria and went to war with the
Ottomans in 1787, ending in victory for Russia (Catherine II). One of Catherine s main goals was to
secure Russia a warm water port and through this victory she got it on the coast of the Black Sea. This
was important because it was Russia s first warm water port, increasing their ability to trade by
providing an outlet to the Mediterranean, giving them access to the rest of Europe. This new area
along the Black Sea also provided them with fertile, farmable land which helped to feed Russia s
growing population. In 1795, Russia acquired Lithuania, the Ukraine, and Courland from Poland by
sending troops into Poland, forcing them to sign the Treaty of Kuchuk Kainarji which arranged the
second partition of Poland, annexing a total of one hundred ninety thousand square miles of land for
Russia. Catherine also annexed Crimea and Belarus (Marker). This expanded Russia s power and
influence on other countries and also how showed how Catherine helped imperialism within Russia.
Another one of Catherine s accomplishments was her domestic affairs and her focus on internal
Russia. Catherine was very proud to think of herself as an

St. Thomas Aquinas On God And The Laws Of Nature
The world does not function in absolutes, therefore, I find myself aligning with St. Thomas Aquinas
over Immanuel Kant. Aquinas Natural Law is based on God and the laws of nature. Aquinas identifies
five primary precepts: reproduction, life, education, justice and worship. The primary precepts, then
break down into secondary precepts that are flexible and realistic. Aquinas views the laws that affect
man as coming from one of four areas. Eternal law is the mind of God and what he was thinking when
he made us. Divine law is found in the Bible and acts as a guide for life. Natural law is our conscience
and helps guide our daily actions. The final law is the human law which incorporates the laws written
by man. Secondly, Aquinas allows for flexibility and the reality of the world which in turn makes his
Natural Law easier to follow. An example is the primary precept of reproduction, which at its core
says any action that prevents the increase of our population is wrong. This is the basis for the Catholic
Church s stance against homosexuality, abortions, and contraception. However, if a woman with
cancer is pregnant and opts to take chemotherapy and the result is the death of the fetus that is
acceptable. Aquinas reasons it is acceptable because the death of the fetus was an unintended
consequence of saving the life of the mother. Aquinas says that first the action must be good, in this
case saving the life of the mother. The next part is the evil must be

SGT. Walsh should interview each officer within the first month after he gets his new assignment. The
interview with each officer will be a good then the officers will now that I can do the job. Therefore,
he can get to know me and I can get to know them and how they do their job and he can find out what
they expect of me and they can find out what SGT. Walsh will expect of them this will be done on a
one on one basis.
The topics that SGT. Walsh should discuss with each officer on a one on one with each officer is what
you think that we can do as a tem to help out in the community that you are working in to help people
that live there.
The way SGT. Walsh should make this work place meaningful to the officers he will make it fun for

In A Father Who Keeps His Promises Written By Scott Hahn,
In A Father Who Keeps His Promises written by Scott Hahn, his thorough commentary and illustration
of the Old Testament is examined. The Novel begins with the depiction of a severe earthquake in 1989
that killed tens of thousands, which offers us a peek at the perfection of our Heavenly Father. Hahn
continuing, he begins to explain the meaning of a covenant, following with the significant differences
that a contract and covenant have between them. After, there is an exploration by Hahn on the topic of
fathers who are not in heaven. Then he states most likely the greatest point of his entire novel that is
summarized into this quote. I want to help you catch a vision of a very different kind of father, the

The book is then further continued with the exploration of creation and desecration. When it comes to
the creation of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden a so called set of guidelines were put in place
for Adam and Eve to live by. A part of those rules were that could only eat from the tree of life and not
from the tree of knowledge. Adam and Eve violated that which resulted in the breaking of the
covenant and ate from the tree of knowledge because Satan tempted them. Although the couple had
gone entirely against God s words, God promised them a savior from Satan. However a curse was
inflicted on Adam and Eve by God to show the love he had for them. In Hahn s novel he explains why
God would inflict the suffering that he imposed on Adam and Eve: Once the nature of Adam s sin is
understood to be his refusal to suffer out of love for his Father and bride, three conclusions logically
follow. First, the divine curse of suffering imposed on Adam and Eve was perfectly reasonable.
Second, their humble acceptance of that punitive suffering would be remedial. Third, Christ s bearing
of this curse, in his own sacrificial suffering on the cross, would prove to be redemptive. (73)
Furthermore, the history of the covenants is gone into in more depth. He continues with the story of
Cain giving into the deadly sin of envy on his way to kill his own brother. God declared that Noah is
also a major covenant and that

Information classification assure confidentiality using a predefined measure to classify and handle
information and whether it is allowed for distribution or not.
It is also a good practice for information owner to know the risk and countermeasures of the
information. (Oscarson Karlsson, 2009).
Assumptions:
1. Kingsley Media Enterprises have adequate security preparations and are able to apply the
classification rules in short time.
2.0 Classifying Information
All information must be classified either a printout or electronic. The company must enforce policies
and provide meetings to educate employees about the classification labels used inside the company.
The classification label can be attached to the information but to pick the right label employee should
read and understand the security classification criteria table. (Peltier, 1998).
Over classification can lead to information being redundant or not being used as only certain
employees have access to it. Therefore, labeling information as confidential if disclosing such
information introduce severe damage. Non sensitive information that doesn t require such a protection
should remain private or unclassified to reduce resources consumption. (Protective Security Policy
Committee, 2014).

Slave Girl
Incidents of a slave girl
When a book is written from the third person you get a different feeling if you were to read a book
from the person these events that happened to. Incidents of a slave girl was written by Harris Ann
Jacobs. She was born in Edenton, North Carolina in the fall of 1813. She did not know she was born
property of market horniblow. The book she had wrote was not fiction but simply nonfiction with
changed names. This book was chosen to review because when Harris Jacobs wrote the book she
wrote first hand accounts of what had happened to a slave in that time period. Harris intent was to
show how she was treated being a black woman slave in the height of the slavery period and how it
affected her mind and body; it help ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knowing that these events in this book actually had happened made it harder for me to read. This
chapter you start to see that Mr Flint starting to sexually abuse her. Being as honest as she was she
successfully showed what it was like to be a woman s slave. What he did and the fact that she was a
slave major believe you can go nowhere for protection that s how it affected her mind. No matter
whether the slave girl be as black as ebony or as fair as her mistress. In either case, there is no shadow
of law to protect her from insult, from violence, or even from death. (27) In the next chapter The
Jealous Mistress the treatment of Mr flint kept happening. Now her mistress kept getting jealous,
realizing things were going on. In my opinion the way she explaining things were happening to her
what s a good way to do it. Instead of coming straight out and saying exactly what Mr flint did to her,
she let us infer. Which I personally liked better because it wasn t as graphic. I said before the reason
she wrote this book was to explain the treatment of her as a slave. She explains I draw no imaginary
pictures of southern homes. I am telling you the plain truth (pg 34). So I think this helps to prove her
point that she s not lying and she is telling exactly how it happened. Also in the chapter The lover it
does explain successfully like the rest of the book of what happens to her, even as a young girl who
fell in love. The book does show what happened but it is not until the middle and the end of the book
you start seeing how it affected her. But you do see a little of the first of her showing her emotions and
what the treatment made her feel. I felt lonely and desolate.

unemployment it is extremely difficult. In order to get a stable job you need to have some sort of
knowledge in what you are doing. Even working at a department store requires sone knowledge. You
need to be able to work with customers and be up to date with everything that involves the store.
During my visit to mothers job I acquired some knowledge on how to manage a store. My mother
works at Nordstrom as a Retail Assistant manager. Most of the time she was on the go and extremely
busy. Customers had issues that she needed to solve. My mother had to fire and even hire many people
all in one day. My mother basically runs the entire store if the manger is not there. In order to be a
Retail Assistant Manager you need at least a high school diploma and good qualifications on your
GCSE s. (Retail Assistant manager job description totaljobs.com) To really stand out from the rest,
having a degree in retail management is great. From six a.m till five p.m my mother worked non stop.
To be a Retail Assistant Manager you need to be on your feet and be able to multi task. Determination
and drive for this job is the most important. This job requires you to deal with people all the time. Any
concern in the store goes directly to you or the actual manager. The manager considers a Retail

Ageism In The Workplace
Imagine being an older aged person going into an interview. You go through the entire interview and
kill it, nothing went wrong, and the interviewer even says the job is basically yours. When leaving the
interview, a younger kid walks in. The following day, you find out that you were declined, and that the
other applicant that walked in after got the job. Later, you find out that you and that younger kid had
the same qualifications. This is what happens when people experience age discrimination. People don

Discriminating against age is still happening all around and many people don t know it s happening.

When people first consider this reason, it makes sense at first. Older youngers are more fragile and can

business may lose the potential to mold and keep a valuable employee for years to come (Mayfair).
Andrew Mayfair points out in his article, The Consequences of Age Discrimination at Work , how
businesses believe that getting rid of older employees who can t do as much as younger employees is
helping the company. Mayfair then explains how older employees, with their extensive knowledge,
are the molds for the younger employees. Instead of letting a younger employee slowly gain a vast
amount of knowledge, the older employees already possess this and can pass it down to the new and
inexperienced employees. Businesses who will discriminate against people of older age have the
misconception that they are helping their business by getting rid of older employees. Little do they
realize, these discriminatory practices are causing the adolescent employees to be substantially held

Essay On Security Detection
There are some previous researches that are used to be referred to develop a real time system on
drowsiness detection. These are researches and journals that are related to this project either directly or
indirectly: Alioua et al. [17] proposed a robust and novel algorithm which does not require any
training data or any special cameras for eye state analysis by iris detection using Circular Hough
Transform (CHT) technique. The experimental results were represented as statistical measures such as
Confusion Matrix, Correct Classification Rate and kappa Statistic. The experiment was performed on

The Burning Of Petroleum Based Fuels
Can you see the light? As the burning of petroleum based fuels, natural gases, and coal continues,
smog will continue to cover the sky. Pollution from said burning occurs as greenhouse gases and
chemicals. Specifically, petroleum based fuels, natural gases, and coal release energy when heat
breaks the bonds between hydrogens and carbons, generating energy and releasing carbon dioxide and
water as byproducts. This energy often originates from stored energy preserved in organisms that
eventually died and lingered in the crust. The byproduct carbon dioxide is the most dominant of the
greenhouse gases, which are gases that absorb and release thermal energy from the Sun. These gases
trap thermal energy in the atmosphere while releasing a small amount into space. Global warming
occurs due to the trapping of this heat. Their covering of the sky and Sun reduces the amount of
sunlight that can reach the Earth. In addition, these energy sources are also bulky and inefficient.
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (2014), producing even one kilowatt hour
of energy (one kilowatt of electricity expended in one hour), 0.08 gallons of petroleum based fuel,
1000 cubic feet of natural gases, and 1.09 pounds of coal ( How much coal, natural gas, or petroleum
is used to generate a kilowatt hour 1 of electricity? ). Despite the availability of alternative energy
sources, most people prefer these dirty energy sources.
Solar power shows promise as a potential alternative.

I Am A Graduate From The University Of California
In 10 years, I hope to be a graduate from the University of California, Riverside, School of Medicine
and be a practicing physician in Southern California. Though I will thoroughly explore all specialties,
I have a particular interest in pediatrics. With frequent visits to the doctor s office due to illnesses and
infections from my vesicoureteral reflux, the health care setting became a place I was comfortable
with. I developed a strong relationship with my pediatrician and aspired to be like him. Becoming a
pediatrician would allow me the privilege of watching my patients grow up and develop a relationship
with them and their families. The root of my interest lies with my love for working with children.
Throughout high school, I thoroughly enjoyed my time volunteering at a summer camp for elementary
school children. My recent experiences tutoring disadvantaged children through Project Literacy at
UCLA and volunteering at Kids Come First Community Health Center in Ontario have confirmed my
decision to pursue pediatrics. My time at Kids Come First has exposed me to the health issues those in
Inland Southern California are facing. Through my time at UCR School of Medicine, I hope to
develop strong relationships with nearby hospitals and clinics, so that I would have the opportunity to
continue serving that region. I would also love to incorporate my passion in community service into
my career. I want to not only focus on healing individual patients, but improve the health of

paint character s in any particular light, forcing us to figure out their motives and judge them, but
instead she focuses on condemning slavery.

Repetition is typically used to drive a point home; to really emphasize its importance. In addition to
this function, Morrison skillfully uses this method of writing to make her readers question. You are my
Beloved. You are mine. You are mine. You are mine. While reading this it occurred to me that
Morrison writes this part open ended so that it can be analyzed two different ways. It does not identify
if this is somebody repeating You are mine. over and over or instead if it is a back and forth
conversation between Sethe and Beloved. By leaving this question unanswered we are made to decide
our own interpretation of the character Beloved s overall origin. If Sethe is the one saying You are
mine. You are mine. You are mine. it solidifies her belief that Beloved is her baby reincarnated by
showing that she feels like she possesses Beloved like a mother owns a daughter. Earlier I discussed
that if Sethe were to let parts of her that are precious and fine be taken to Sweet Home with
schoolteacher, it would be to let the life that she made be destroyed. Instead she chooses to destroy her
baby before him as an attempt to spare her child a life of slavery. Therefore she stops schoolteacher, a
catalyst for slavery, s possession of her child and Beloved would never belong to an owner but instead

Role of Hrm in Mergers Nad Acquisition
Understanding the Role of HRM
Mergers Acquisitions:

Executive Summary
HR professionals play a critical role in the success or failure of mergers and acquisitions.
Human resource management professionals must be capable of handling many unique challenges. One

Mergers Acquisitions: Understanding the Role of HRM
4
Economies of Scale
The largest single driving force behind mergers and acquisitions is probably economies of scale.
Economies of scale means that if you have a large company, you can leverage your suppliers. This is a
very powerful capability, and exercising it can be a strategic move for a company s operations. You
can save a tremendous amount of money on services such as health insurance we all know that health
insurance is extraordinarily expensive and getting more so every day. I know about the strategic
benefits of economies of scale from my personal experience of working as a consultant in a small
merger and acquisition in 2006 in which two failing private schools joined together to become one
successful entity. One of the major contributing factors for the success of this merger was that the
combined organization had more people who were buying health insurance; as a result, the health
insurance company substantially dropped their premiums because the risk was being spread across
more people. Large companies can also buy basic supplies such as paper, pencils, and paperclips less
expensively from suppliers when they buy in larger quantities. They simply get a

Lord Of The Flies As A Psychological Allegory
Some speculate that the people who commit extremely appalling acts as adults were raised to commit
these ghastly crimes, while others believe that everyone is born with an evil already inside of them. In
William Golding s psychological fiction Lord of the Flies, the idea of being born innately evil is
recurrently alluded to. The novel is about a group of young British boys who crash land on a remote
island. They are left with no laws to tell them what they can or cannot do, and are extremely
frightened of a so called Beast that they expect lives on the island. In the Lord of the Flies, The Beast
symbolizes the evil and devilish proclivity inside of all humans. Through the use of The Beast ,
William Golding illustrates how the novel is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Society and laws, however, have been put in place to keep this Beast hidden. Instead of being the
sweet little British boys that the children were expected to be in the beginning of the novel, the Beast
inside of these kids has shown not only their recklessness, but also their pure evil that has been kept
sequestered.
Not only is The Beast implanted in the children s heads, but it is also something that they can never
truly get rid of. Golding introduces this idea during a conversation between Simon and The Lord of
the Flies: Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill! said the head (Golding
143). By claiming that The Beast is not something that the children can hunt and kill, Golding portrays
his belief that the evil inside of all human beings cannot be exterminated. By portraying this belief,
Golding once again relates to the concept of The Beast being the id. Being that the id is a part of a
human s subconscious mind, it would be impossible to completely get rid of it. However, throughout
the text, Golding alludes to the fact that man s evil is covered up by the rules and laws of society. This,
in turn, causes the id to be covered up. One would never walk amongst others acting completely on
emotion. This would progenerate a completely rampageous environment. Golding is suggesting that
society s rules eliminate any chance of this sort of environment. However, by stripping away society s
rules on the island, Golding is

Sales Training Methods
There is a wide variety of methods, but the program content often limits those that are appropriate. If,
for example, the content is a new policy on vacations and holidays, the training method almost
certainly will be the Lesson, supplemented, perhaps, with visual aids. In this instance, such methods as
role playing and the demonstration would be ruled out. It is important to select those training methods
that most effectively convey the desired content.
Of the ten training methods discussed below, five are group methods, four are individual methods, and
one can be either. Lecturing, role playing, case discussion, impromptu discussion, and gaming are
group methods. The personal conference, on the job training, programmed learning, and ... Show more

Demonstrating how a new product works and its uses is effective, much more so than lecturing on the
same material. In initial sales training, demonstrating techniques to use in closing sales is more
effective than is lecturing. Effective sales trainers use demonstrations to the maximum extent since the
beginning of time, showing has been more effective than telling! Demonstrations are generally used
with other methods they enliven an otherwise dull Lesson, and they reinforce the interchange in a
curbstone conference on, for instance, how to inform the next customer of an impending price
increase.
Role Playing
This method has trainees acting out parts in contrived problem situations. The role playing session
begins with the trainer describing the situation and the different personalities involved. The trainer
provides needed props, than designates trainees to play the salesperson, prospect, and other characters.
Each plays his or her assigned role, and afterward, they, together with other group members and the
trainer, appraise each player s effectiveness and suggest how the performance of each might have been
improved. In another version of role playing a training group is given information on, for example, a
buyer s objection to a particular product and then is asked to extemporize a solution. Called a sweet
session. This provides individual trainees a chance to apply what they have learned. Post mortem

The Death Penalty Is Truly A Crime Deterrent
Abstract
The death penalty has been one of the most debatable and contentious issues facing the American
public for many years. This paper proposes a study that analyzes the theory which holds that the death
penalty will prevent people from committing heinous crimes. Two hypotheses oversee this study: 1)
States that have a death penalty law will have lower rates of crimes punishable by death than states
without death penalty laws, and 2) States that have the most executions will have fewer crimes
punishable by death than states that do not execute often and those without a death penalty law. To
examine each of these hypotheses, I propose two case studies that will be conducted with two States
satisfying requirements for not having or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is illegal in eighteen states, including Minnesota and the District of Columbia.
Capital punishment is one of the most debated topics and contested issue in the United States and the
world today. Capital punishment is often seen as a humane way to execute the vilest criminals and to
discourage others from committing atrocious crimes. The death penalty is morally wrong and violates
the Sixth Commandment of the Bible, which says you shall not murder , the Eighth Amendment
which prohibits cruel and unusual punishment, and the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States
Constitution which guarantees equal protection of the laws and due process. According to the Death
Penalty Information Center, 972 people have been sentenced to death row in the United States since
1973.
The main goals of the criminal justice system are to: rehabilitate offenders, and protect society from
those offenders. Ernest Van Den Haag argues that doing justice or deterring others (102) are the
objectives of the system. Therefore, the use of the death penalty is a means to an end. Opponents of
the death penalty must convince its supporters that it does not fulfill either of these objectives while
proponents rely on either argument for the justification of the system.
In regards to this proposal, this study will: 1) focus on the deterrence factor rather than question
whether the death penalty is ethical. Raymond T. Bye defines the cradle on which the theory of

The Role Of Drug Trafficking In Latin America
Up to 58 milligrams(mg) of coca leaf, the derivative of cocaine, is chewed and consumed daily by
indigenous men and women of Latin America. Ydang, a Colombian coca farmer, states that he will
sell to anyone who wants to buy . At every level of drug trafficking, economic and political factors are
effected. In Latin American countries, specifically Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia, drug trafficking has
been a problem for decades. Despite attempts to hide or deny it, during the twenty year period of 1950
through 1970, all three of these countries political actions and economic policies were impacted.
Before the issues of political corruption can be brought up it is important to understand the prior
history of these countries and the factors which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At a lower level of the drug trade were the women drug mules, who were becoming more and more
commonly seen at the U.S. border. Their popularity as drug mules grew as drug lords realized they
were not checked for drugs due to the lack of female officers, once this flaw in the system was
exposed drug smuggling over the U.S. Mexico border became a hayday. Many women who worked as
mules had fathers, brothers, or husbands higher up in the business who furthered their careers and
gave them responsibilities such as local distribution in particular to other women. Because they were
mainly deemed worthy of drug muling, in order to work up the food chain women either need to have
connections or rely on co optation, bribery, manipulation, and [more commonly] violence , in order to
gain respect. This brings us to Griselda Blanco, more famously known for her nicknames, Godmother
of cocaine , Black Widow , la Madrina , and Queenpin , a drug lord in the Medellín cartel during the
1970 s. She was brought into the business by a man trying to get her to smuggle drugs which she did
by ordering custom lingerie from Medellín tailors that contained hidden pockets for concealing
cocaine. She soon worked her way up the food chain and was a vital part in the

Essay On Knowing The Needs In The Community
Knowing the needs that your community has is an important step that is necessary when developing
programs for an organization. To learn what needs are within the community a human service
professional can use the logic model to take the steps for development. The need is recognized and
supported by the community which at this point enables the agency to create the program to address
the need. Creating the goals and objectives will assist in the success of the program.
Need That Was Determined In the Community, And How the Need Was Identified
The community being discussed is Seneca County in the Finger Lakes of New York. Seneca County

Why We Are Liars Relevant Today
Is We We re Liars relevant to our world currently? Is it even important, does it have any significance?
That s a question which may have many answers. Maybe yes. Maybe No. Maybe it s too far fetched.
Maybe it has touched people s hearts. Maybe, maybe, maybe. When it comes to books of fiction we
know their fake, made up, not real. But the difference is that they feel real, they feel alive. So im just
thinking that maybe, just maybe that We Were Liars has a meaning a bit more deeper than a fake
character named Cadence. Cadence and her perfect Sinclair family whose wealth is in abundance. A
destructive friendship of the four Liars. A story about a girl and her family of silence, greed, and
rivalry.

Having parents that are divorced is nothing something made up and it affects kids every day just like
how it affected Cadence. It tasted like salt and failure. The bright red shame of being unloved soaked
the grass in front of our house, the bricks of the path, the steps to the porch. My heart spasmed among
the peonies like a trout (Lockhart 23). Cadence felt unloved, she felt like it was her fault of being a
failure as a daughter that her father left them, she felt humiliated. Emily Lockhart teaches us
something,in a fictional book i might add, that can help teach us something about reality. That in
reality kids with divorced parents are hurt, and they frequently blame themselves.
This short novel have taught me something important. This mere world of fictional characters, places,
and actions have shown me that i ve got a wonderful sister (don t tell her I said that), and two
outstanding parents. And that s all you need. Those connections, shared memories, and strong bonds is
enough to keep a family together. Not a fancy car, a private island, or an unlimited bank accountant.
So I say thank you Cadence, thank you Mirren, Johnny and Gat. Thank you for teaching me a lesson,
for showing me that fiction is oh so close to

Trade Barriers From An Academic Standpoint
Trade Barriers
Allisa Bell
ECN500 Global Economics
Colorado State University Global Campus
Dr. Walter Vanpoolen
April 23, 2015 Trade Barriers From an academic standpoint, economists overall believe that free trade
would benefit the economy more than instituting tariffs and non tariff trade barriers. However, the
reality is quite different. Politically, tariffs help to strike a balance between social welfare and the
politicians goals. One theory is that campaign contributions are needed for re election; and to achieve
these funds, politicians will weigh this need against welfare reducing protection for industry lobbyists
(Magee, 2011). The models would suggest that the tariffs should actually be much higher than they are
due to the low efficiency cost of tariffs compared to the substantial gains provided for the producers
(Magee, 2011). However, developed countries actually have very low tariffs. There are six possible
explanations for why developed countries have such low tariffs when the political theories behind why
we have tariffs at all would suggest they should be higher.
Six Reasons for Low Tariffs There are six main reasons for the disparity realized between theory and
reality. These explanations would suggest that politicians are just not responsive to the lobbying
efforts, the welfare costs of the implemented tariffs are higher than anticipated, the General Agreement
on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) successfully restrained trade barriers, free rider

Capital Gains Tax Case Summary
INSTRUCTIONS FROM COUSEL
Tax implications on a sale of land and an intended gift of the sale of proceeds
Counsel is asked to advise Mr Reginald Green who wishes to challenge an assessment of Capital
Gains Tax by the HMRC. Mr Green contends that the gain benefits from the relief in section 222 of
the Capital Gains Act 1992 (TCGA 1992), which states that no tax is payable if an individual disposes
of his private residence.
Summary of Facts
Mr Reginald Green sold a parcel of land 12 months ago. Mr Green sold his only house 7 years ago,
after which he retired and bought a canal boat. Mr Green lived on the boat for the next two years and
travelled around England. The travelling life was too lonely, so Mr Green bought a residential

This will be considered a lifetime gift. The gift is just over £200,000 and is also a Potentially Exempt
Transfer (PET). This is when an individual is given an outright gift which is taxed dependent on the
years the donor has survived. Providing that there is 0% charge for Capital Gains Tax on the
proceedings of sale, a lifetime gift of just over £200,000 will not be taxed under Inheritance Tax laws
when Mr Green gives the money to his daughter. This is because under the nil rate band (0%)
Inheritance Tax is only charged on a lifetime gift if it exceeds the value of £325,000. HMRC will not
deduct inheritance tax from Mr Green s daughter because she is being given a gift which has a value

Blood Pressure
A reflective account of blood pressure testing during a clinical simulative skill session The clinical
skill that I have decided to reflect on in this essay is the manual blood pressure test that I have
performed on one of my colleague during a simulative clinical skills session. The aim of this essay is
to reflect on this experience, so as to learn from it, identify areas of concern and increase competence
in this skill accordingly. To start the essay it is the custom to at least give a definition of blood
pressure test, and understand how to interprete the results. I will then proceed to reflect on this whole
experience. I will continue by revealing two issues that I have encountered while performing the blood
pressure test, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I then proceeded to record my readings onto a piece of paper, as an Early Warning Signs and Pain
Chart was not available at this time to record the collected data. After the blood pressure test has
ended, I felt quite satisfy with myself, but after a reflective session I found out that I have not done
that well although the whole procedure was considered complete and successful. Two issues that I
have identified when using the Gibb s Reflective Model to reflect on my practice are that I have not
focus enough on my colleague s well being during the whole process, thus I might have missed
important cues that would have revealed information about his emotional state, any sign of distress or
anything that would suggest any discomfort (Jasper, 2003). And secondly, I feel that I concentrated too
much on the actual process of blood pressure testing and that I forgot to look after my correct posture
during the later stage of the test. When I performed my reflective practice of this blood pressure test
experience, I believe that at some point I concentrated too much on reading and recording the data,
and that I might have ignored my colleague s feelings and comfort at the time. I was probably more
focus on the blood pressure test itself than my colleague because of my inexperience of blood pressure

  • 2. Essay about State Wrestling Championship In the first 20 seconds of the match, I had the first take down. I was working crossfaces, cheap tilts, and everything else I knew after my takedown. Then, I did what I do best and gave him a swift, hard crossface and cradeled him up. Squeezing with all my strength and might it took about 7 seconds of him being on his back and he was pinned! It took a total of 55 seconds to pin my first opponent at state. After my win, my team was lined up to congratulate me; I was the only member from our team to pin their opponent. The feeling of the referee raising my arm was one of the, if not, the best overwhelming feeling I ve ever felt in my life. Knowing that I won that match on my own gave me great confidence that I was just as good as anyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I thought he was going to rip my whole body apart and slap me around on the mat. I knew that wasn t the right way to think going into a match so I kept telling myself that I would win. Petro Risner, Mayberry Hotchkiss, mat 4, said the announcer. With my legs wobbling arms tingling and heart pumping away, I stepped out onto the mat. The referee got ready, and there it was, the whistle. I sat there crouched down, ready to shoot in for the first take down, but for some reason I couldn t. We tied up head to head. I could feel his strength by his tight grip. We separated and I suddenly got a big burst of adrenaline. Boom, I shot in at his legs and two points went to me with the first take down. After that take down, everything I thought before was gone. I wasn t afraid of this kid. I was just letting myself think I was. I knew that I was not going to lose this match. When the clock ran out in the third period, the score was 9 8 in my favor. I did it. I defeated Jeff Petro in a tough 6 minutes of wrestling. It was Probably the toughest match I ve ever had to wrestle. There I was with 2 wins and on my way to the semi finals. Only 2 of my teammates had made it that far. My first opponent the next day would be Bryce. As our team left the Pepsi Center and started heading for our hotel, there were some people disappointed and some proud of how we had wrestled. • 3. Knights Research Paper According to the urban dictionary a knight is a man who served his sovereign or lord as a mounted soldier in armor . In other words a professional killer. Even though we view Knights as professional warriors, we failed to see that they were much more than a warrior. Knights were not merely professional warriors: knighthood includes guidelines that one must follow: the notion of social status, political power, legal classification, and cultural expressions of knightly identity bravery, honor, loyalty, and service to a woman. Knights are the emblematic warriors of the European Middle Ages. (Knights: In History and Legend, pg. 15) Knights first surfaced between the years of 1000 1350 after the fall of the Roman Empire. After the fall of the Roman Empire also known as The Medieval Period, Europe was dominated by a feudal system, which consisted of God being the supreme ruler, then a King being the appointed ruler of ... Knights in early Middle Ages, using technology from the Romans, wore leather armor. Leather was very expensive... ( history.howstuffworks.com) The armor had to be custom made to fit the Knights measurements or they faced the risk of an ill fitting suit of armor hampering them in battle. Other than using leather for armor a Knights armor consisted of a complex series of garments, chain mail, and iron plate. Chain mail , small, interwoven steel rings , was very popular among blacksmiths and armorers because it was easy to do, cheaper than other armor, and it could effectively deflect weapons. But soon blacksmiths learned how to do plated armor and it was much better in certain areas that the chain mail wasn t, but it was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Cruel and Unusual Punishment The death penalty also known as capital punishment is an execution in which the person who committed the offence is put to death by the state. It was first practiced in Jamestown colony, 1608. The person was hanged for spying for the Spanish government and was the 1st person sentenced to death in America. Since then, it has been a form to punish the criminals for committing such heinous crimes and putting end to violence and crime rates. Despite how people agree that the death penalty is justifiable, however; it still violates the international human rights laws. These laws were created to protect the lives of all human beings including the criminals, who some might agree they do not deserve to live. Even though some might say that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Justice can be interpreted in many ways such as being able fair or wanting someone to suffer for what they did. However, death is not always the solution to every problem which involves a murder. In the United States alone there are thirty five states that still have the death penalty while only fifteen states have repealed it. In the United States, about 13,000 people have been legally executed since colonial times . How does America respond to this? The United States is supposed to represent freedom, liberty, and peace. However, the death penalty contradicts everything the founding fathers built America on. Everyone is entailed to life even though they commit terrible crimes. Technology advancements are rapidly growing which is supposed to allow less pain in time of execution. So far in 2011 there have been eight executions and three more executions are going to be taken place on March 10, 29 and 31. Many people are killed by lethal injections, electrocutions, gas chamber, hanging, or a firing squad. These killing methods are both immoral and unconstitutional because they are killing the people like animals. This is an endless vicious cycle of murder and revenge that continues because the people have a desire to get revenge on the people who killed their loved one. Even thought that loved one will never return and enjoy life before it was quickly taken away. In the United States there are about 3,230 Death Row inmates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Kinder Morgan Kinder Morgan MBO Richard Kinder and Bill Morgan purchased a master limited partnership pipeline company from Enron for $40 million in 1997, founding Kinder Morgan, Inc. (KMI) 1. The primary benefit of an MLP comes in the form of tax savings. While shareholders in a corporation face double taxation, owners of a partnership are taxed only once (when receiving distributions). Corporate income tax does not exist in the partnership. When cash distributions to MLP owners exceed partnership the difference is counted as a return of capital to the limited partner and taxed at the capital gains rate when the unit holder sells. This creates a pass through entity that is sustainable as long as 90% of the cash flow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both of these assets (like most of KMI s assets) were exposed to commodity price risk. However, KMI saw opportunity for long term gains as they internally projected high commodity prices. Tied in with projections for commodity pricing is the undervaluation of the company. A major incentive for management in this buyout is clearly this undervaluation. KMI had been valued between $100 and 120 a share, yet was trading at only $84. KMI had experienced five years of increasing revenues and its net income was on an upward trend. KMI was financially healthy and its vast infrastructure would only continue to generate cash flows. It was a perfect buy low scenario for the investors that knew the firm the best, the managers. Buy Low, Sell High There are conflicting desires at work, as management may not be acting in the best interest of its shareholders. To try and dispute agency conflict, Kinder established a special committee to make decisions regarding the privatization proposal. The committee was committed to executing due diligence in finding other alternatives, as well as, negotiating with any buyout group. MBO s can be stressful on boards as they feel there is no choice. If the board declines, they will be left not only without a deal, but also with displeased management. Moreover, other bidders are less inclined to commit because they do not have management support. • 6. Great Political Debates The Great Political Debate Ben Franklin once said there is only two certainties in life, death and taxes. Although you may not agree with this statement, it does provide two key topics that are highly debated amongst parties of the United States democracy. In terms of death, abortion and the death penalty are debated topics that each party has a different stance on. Those topics are an area of government that do not have a consensus. When it comes to taxes, every party has general ambitions on how to treat taxing citizens. Even though there are a multitude of political parties present in politics today, the only parties that are repeatedly mentioned election after election are the democratic and republican parties. These two parties usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The democratic party relates the issue of abortion in a court case called Roe verse Wade. In this court case, the US Supreme Court affirmed the legality of a woman s right to have an abortion under the 14th amendment. As one can see, depending on how you interpret the 14th amendment determines the outcome of legality. Since the Supreme Court is the final arbiter of the law, the states must grant the right to abortion, regardless of being a red state or not. Another democratic view on abortion is that a woman should never have to fear the ability to pay for an abortion. In the democratic platform for America in 2004 it stated, we stand proudly for a woman s right to choose, consistent with Roe v. Wade, and regardless of her ability to pay (Democratic platform). This is in opposition of the republican view, as republicans do not want health care providers to provide for abortions. The democratic view is that all women should have access to an abortion, which is most likely going to be through health care. Overall, one can see that the democratic view on abortion differs from the republican viewpoint through the interpretation of the 14th amendment and thoughts on paying for ... Corporate social responsibility is defined in Chapter 5 as the corporate duty to create wealth by using means that avoid harm to, protect, or enhance societal assets. Did GE in the Welch era fulfill this duty? Could it have been done better? What should it have done? Jack Welch did make GE the most valuable company in the world. He was described as the most important and influential business leaders of the 20th Century by some Wall Street analyst. Nevertheless, Jack Welch as the CEO did not fulfill the duty of social responsibility. He did not avoid harm or protect societal assets. Paying taxes is wonderful and all but it is not the only social responsibility that a corporation should have. Jack Welch should have been proactive in his cleaned up the PCBs in the Hudson River, to help prevent the harm of the fish and the citizens who live near and on this American water source. He should have considered the layoffs and what effect outsourcing had on the US economy. It would have been more socially responsibly to have looked for ways to enhance American work force thru innovative ideas and partnering with other businesses in the world. In his defense, he did fulfill the economic responsibility of paying taxes to help society; he would have done anything in his power to lower the taxes though. He could have done more! 2. Does GE under Welch illustrate a narrower view of corporate social responsibility closer to Friedman s view that the only social responsibility is to increase profits while obeying the law? Welch does illustrate a narrow view of the corporate social responsibility closer to Friedman s view. Jack Welch did believe the only social responsibility is to increase profits while obeying the law. Welch said a CEO s primary social responsibility is to assure the financial success of the company. Patel demonstrates how the world food system has created two opposite, but inherently linked epidemics: obesity and crippling hunger. Throughout the course of this book, it becomes painfully clear that the majority of the world s population is being manipulated by our global food system and by the corporations and their CEO s who control it. Patel encourages his readers to make themselves politically responsible (313) and through Stuffed and Starved, highlights the discrepancies and major imbalances of our world food system, the small percentage of people who benefit from it, and the vast majority of humanity who does not. He does all this while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patel concludes that these systems favor the consumers rather than the producers. He uses Mexican corn as an example. The price of corn in the Mexican market collapsed due to U.S imports. The U.S corn farmers were significantly subsidized by their government, and the poor Mexican farmers had no way to compete. Patel accuses America of using its economic and political power to strong arm Mexico and other countries under the guise of free trade agreements. With all of the evidence Patel presents on this topic, any reader would have a difficult time disagreeing with this assertion. Patel makes food out to be a bargaining chip, a good that can be used to control nations and suppress rebellions. He may not be so far off the mark. Food was used in U.S negotiations during the 1950 s and 60 s. Nations that were susceptible to Communism were manipulated into becoming dependent on the U.S market. America is not the only superpower that Patel takes aim at however. Britain used its influence to control the grain trade, encouraging India and others to sell their wheat stocks. This brought famine back to Asia, but provided cheap food for its factory workers and suppressed rebellion at home. The food system has been increasingly used as a weapon to control weaker nations, to keep people down, and to line the pockets of those who control it. Patel discussed companies like Monsanto and Altria who were able to buy governmental goodwill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Television As A Place Of Fantasy And Enjoyment For An... Television dramas in today s day and age has become a place of fantasy and enjoyment for an audience ranging in different ages. It was created to build upon creative idea s of scriptwriters and producers; however, the basis of these creative idea s stems from daily life occurrences that one sees on a regular span. This can include crime, politics, family, or romance, but in reality, how many of these ideas and scripts are an accurate representation of daily life in terms of those subjects? Edgar Allan Poe once said that one should, Believe only half of what you see and nothing that you hear. and this can answer the question set above. This is because realistically, society should only be believing in half of what they see and nothing that they hear on television. The shows that are created to air on television are built and directed in order to keep a person s interest; the accuracy of the information of which is relayed at times are the least of a scriptwriters concerns as facts are not always as exciting as drama. In contrast, there are exceptions in these cases and it can be seen within the media portrayed show, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (Wolf,1999) as it shows an accurate real life representation of court and police proceedings that is demonstrated through coerced confessions, role of a forensic psychiatrist in a criminal affair, and a hung jury situation. • 11. The Subjection Of Women By John Stuart Mill Written by John Stuart Mill in 1860 1861, as the Victorian era took place in England, The Subjection of Women is a critical piece of analysis in regards to the status of women in society and their unequal relationship with the opposite sex. During Mill s lifetime, women were considered to be inferior to men by custom and laws, and therefore, they were expected to be submissive in nature. Deeply influenced by the ideas of his wife Harriet Taylor Mill, and John Stuart Mill s own beliefs, The Subjection of Women was published in 1869, becoming a piece of literature that would not only challenge the common views of society at the time, but would also advocate for different approaches in light of modern times. Throughout his essay Mill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, any conclusions on woman s nature should only be taken after women have been given the chance to truly experience equality. As Mill himself maintained: I deny that anyone knows or can know, the nature of the two sexes, as long as they have only been seen in their present relation to one another. Until conditions of equality exist, no one can possibly assess the natural differences between women and men, distorted as they have been. What is natural to the two sexes can only be found out by allowing both to develop and use their faculties freely Another of the arguments made by John Stuart Mill in the first chapter is that even when society had seemed to accept the idea that a person s birth should not determine his/her social position in life, when it comes to the subordination of women there is not such acceptance. Men continue to believe that it comes natural for women to prefer the vocation of wife and mother before anything else. However, they choose to overlook that women across the globe have been educated into the mentality that they are supposed to be feeble, emotional, and compliant. That they have been taught to submit to the superiority of males and most importantly to always put first the interest of their family and their men before her own, defining with it the way females ... Given that the inspiration for an artist s work can be so varied and diverse, I think it s hard to say that artists have a social responsibility given that some artists work don t necessarily convey or reflect the feelings or ideals of the greater bulk of society. Artistic expression is important and as soon as society begins to police or restrict the ability of an artist to express his or herself, I think we re moving into dangerous territory as a culture. With that said, I don t think artists should be held accountable for the work they produce. Artists should be allowed to completely and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The winter of 1946 1947 brought intense suffering to the people of Western Europe and the only country economically healthy enough to help them was the United States. The U.S organized a convention on July 12, 1947, to announce the plan, to which 16 countries agreed to the Marshall plan. The plan started in July 1948 and was immensely successful. Some people believe that getting up and moving to a different is not hard, but it is not as easy as it sounds. People do so for various reasons: to escape as a refugee if there are certain circumstances and issues like a revolution or war are going in a country or immigrate to change their life forever. In my case, I decided to move to a foreign country as an exchange student, surviving a long forty two hour flight from my home country, Tajikistan, to the USA. Actually, it was not my own idea to study abroad. My parents decided that it would be a great idea for me to spend my junior and senior year in the United States as an exchange student. They have always wanted the best for me. I remember the day; My family and friends were celebrating my thirteenth birthday party. During the party, my dad was discussing the idea of sending me abroad with his friends. First of all, I thought he was joking then but now, four years later, I realized that it actually happened and I am here, in Lincoln, Nebraska, about to spend my second Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays in another country, thousands miles away from home. High alveolar ventilation brings more O2 into the alveoli, increasing O2 , and rapidly eliminating CO2 from the lungs (for chemical abbreviations see Table 2). Partial pressure of gases Dalton s law explains the partial pressure of a gas, which is the pressure exerted by a gas within a mixture of gases independent of each gas in the mixture (Marieb, 2004). The partial pressure of each gas is directly proportional to its percentage in the total mixture and in air is determined by atmospheric pressure. Atmospheric pressure is 101 kPa (760 mmHg), 21% of this air is oxygen, and the partial pressure of oxygen (PO2 ) in atmospheric air is: 21 × 101 = 21.2 kPa 100 Within the alveoli the PO2 is different to air because of enrichment in the air passages (dead space) with CO2 and water vapour. Alveolar air contains much more CO2 and water vapour and much less O2 and so makes a greater contribution to the near atmospheric pressure in the lungs, then they do in air. This is due to: gas exchanges occurring in the lungs, humidification of air by the conducting passages, mixing of gases in the dead space (contains air not involved in gaseous exchange) between the nose and alveoli. In alveoli, PO2 averages only 13.2 kPa (100 mmHg). Continuous consumption of O2 and production of CO2 in the cells means that there is a partial pressure gradient both in the lungs and at the tissue level ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Hydration Of Norbornene This report concerns the acid catalyzed hydration of norbornene to produce exo norborneol. Such hydration reactions of alkenes typically occur under acidic conditions so that a strong enough electrophile is available in solution for the nucleophilic double bond on the alkene to successfully attack it. This is to say, that if this reaction is done in water, with the hydrogen as the electrophile, the O H bond is too strong for the double bond to effectively attack the hydrogen and detach it. If instead H3O+ is available in acidic conditions, the extra proton attached to the molecule is the electrophile; this electrophile is strong enough for the reaction to proceed. After the double bond attacks the hydrogen, a carbocation forms as the proton attaches to the least substituted carbon of the ones participating in the double bond. This happens because this allows the more stable carbocation to form, as the positive charge would then exist on the more substituted carbon. The functional groups attached to this carbocation donate their electron density to it, thus stabilizing it. This overall effect is often called the Markovnikov rule. However, in this case the two carbons that are connected to each other by the double bond are the same in terms of how substituted they are, and the hydrogen can bond to either of them and still yield the same product. The resulting carbocation can then be attacked by a water molecule. In theory, water can either attack from the top or bottom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of Catherine s main goals was to secure Russia a warm water port and through this victory she got it on the coast of the Black Sea. This was important because it was Russia s first warm water port, increasing their ability to trade by providing an outlet to the Mediterranean, giving them access to the rest of Europe. This new area along the Black Sea also provided them with fertile, farmable land which helped to feed Russia s growing population. In 1795, Russia acquired Lithuania, the Ukraine, and Courland from Poland by sending troops into Poland, forcing them to sign the Treaty of Kuchuk Kainarji which arranged the second partition of Poland, annexing a total of one hundred ninety thousand square miles of land for Russia. • 23. St. Thomas Aquinas On God And The Laws Of Nature The world does not function in absolutes, therefore, I find myself aligning with St. Thomas Aquinas over Immanuel Kant. Aquinas Natural Law is based on God and the laws of nature. Aquinas identifies five primary precepts: reproduction, life, education, justice and worship. The primary precepts, then break down into secondary precepts that are flexible and realistic. Aquinas views the laws that affect man as coming from one of four areas. Eternal law is the mind of God and what he was thinking when he made us. Divine law is found in the Bible and acts as a guide for life. Natural law is our conscience and helps guide our daily actions. The final law is the human law which incorporates the laws written by man. Secondly, Aquinas allows for flexibility and the reality of the world which in turn makes his Natural Law easier to follow. An example is the primary precept of reproduction, which at its core says any action that prevents the increase of our population is wrong. This is the basis for the Catholic Church s stance against homosexuality, abortions, and contraception. However, if a woman with cancer is pregnant and opts to take chemotherapy and the result is the death of the fetus that is acceptable. Aquinas reasons it is acceptable because the death of the fetus was an unintended consequence of saving the life of the mother. Aquinas says that first the action must be good, in this case saving the life of the mother. The next part is the evil must be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Adam and Eve violated that which resulted in the breaking of the covenant and ate from the tree of knowledge because Satan tempted them. Although the couple had gone entirely against God s words, God promised them a savior from Satan. However a curse was inflicted on Adam and Eve by God to show the love he had for them. In Hahn s novel he explains why God would inflict the suffering that he imposed on Adam and Eve: Once the nature of Adam s sin is understood to be his refusal to suffer out of love for his Father and bride, three conclusions logically follow. First, the divine curse of suffering imposed on Adam and Eve was perfectly reasonable. Second, their humble acceptance of that punitive suffering would be remedial. Third, Christ s bearing of this curse, in his own sacrificial suffering on the cross, would prove to be redemptive. (73) Furthermore, the history of the covenants is gone into in more depth. • 32. The Burning Of Petroleum Based Fuels Can you see the light? As the burning of petroleum based fuels, natural gases, and coal continues, smog will continue to cover the sky. Pollution from said burning occurs as greenhouse gases and chemicals. Specifically, petroleum based fuels, natural gases, and coal release energy when heat breaks the bonds between hydrogens and carbons, generating energy and releasing carbon dioxide and water as byproducts. This energy often originates from stored energy preserved in organisms that eventually died and lingered in the crust. The byproduct carbon dioxide is the most dominant of the greenhouse gases, which are gases that absorb and release thermal energy from the Sun. These gases trap thermal energy in the atmosphere while releasing a small amount into space. Global warming occurs due to the trapping of this heat. Their covering of the sky and Sun reduces the amount of sunlight that can reach the Earth. In addition, these energy sources are also bulky and inefficient. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (2014), producing even one kilowatt hour of energy (one kilowatt of electricity expended in one hour), 0.08 gallons of petroleum based fuel, 1000 cubic feet of natural gases, and 1.09 pounds of coal ( How much coal, natural gas, or petroleum is used to generate a kilowatt hour 1 of electricity? ). • 38. Ambiguity In Beloved Newman 1 Melodie Newman Cheryl Alison English 2 (Tue./Thur.) 15 February 2018 Title They say: question everything. In Beloved by Toni Morrison, the way that the author leaves the story ambiguous leads to complex questions about the novel s characters. She I believe this is because her intention is to create a thought provoking experience for the reader where they create their own analysis because she knows that it is more powerful to only open up a larger discussion. She does not paint character s in any particular light, forcing us to figure out their motives and judge them, but instead she focuses on condemning slavery. Morrison unfolds the story in a fragmented and elusive way because it serves a purpose: to allow us time to make our own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Repetition is typically used to drive a point home; to really emphasize its importance. In addition to this function, Morrison skillfully uses this method of writing to make her readers question. You are my Beloved. You are mine. You are mine. You are mine. While reading this it occurred to me that Morrison writes this part open ended so that it can be analyzed two different ways. It does not identify if this is somebody repeating You are mine. over and over or instead if it is a back and forth conversation between Sethe and Beloved. By leaving this question unanswered we are made to decide our own interpretation of the character Beloved s overall origin. If Sethe is the one saying You are mine. You are mine. You are mine. it solidifies her belief that Beloved is her baby reincarnated by showing that she feels like she possesses Beloved like a mother owns a daughter. Earlier I discussed that if Sethe were to let parts of her that are precious and fine be taken to Sweet Home with schoolteacher, it would be to let the life that she made be destroyed. Economies of scale means that if you have a large company, you can leverage your suppliers. This is a very powerful capability, and exercising it can be a strategic move for a company s operations. You can save a tremendous amount of money on services such as health insurance we all know that health insurance is extraordinarily expensive and getting more so every day. I know about the strategic benefits of economies of scale from my personal experience of working as a consultant in a small merger and acquisition in 2006 in which two failing private schools joined together to become one successful entity. One of the major contributing factors for the success of this merger was that the combined organization had more people who were buying health insurance; as a result, the health insurance company substantially dropped their premiums because the risk was being spread across

Lord Of The Flies As A Psychological Allegory Some speculate that the people who commit extremely appalling acts as adults were raised to commit these ghastly crimes, while others believe that everyone is born with an evil already inside of them. In William Golding s psychological fiction Lord of the Flies, the idea of being born innately evil is recurrently alluded to. The novel is about a group of young British boys who crash land on a remote island. They are left with no laws to tell them what they can or cannot do, and are extremely frightened of a so called Beast that they expect lives on the island. In the Lord of the Flies, The Beast symbolizes the evil and devilish proclivity inside of all humans. Through the use of The Beast , William Golding illustrates how the novel is ... Instead of being the sweet little British boys that the children were expected to be in the beginning of the novel, the Beast inside of these kids has shown not only their recklessness, but also their pure evil that has been kept sequestered. Not only is The Beast implanted in the children s heads, but it is also something that they can never truly get rid of. Golding introduces this idea during a conversation between Simon and The Lord of the Flies: Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill! said the head (Golding 143). By claiming that The Beast is not something that the children can hunt and kill, Golding portrays his belief that the evil inside of all human beings cannot be exterminated. By portraying this belief, Golding once again relates to the concept of The Beast being the id. Being that the id is a part of a human s subconscious mind, it would be impossible to completely get rid of it. However, throughout the text, Golding alludes to the fact that man s evil is covered up by the rules and laws of society. This, in turn, causes the id to be covered up. One would never walk amongst others acting completely on emotion. This would progenerate a completely rampageous environment. Golding is suggesting that society s rules eliminate any chance of this sort of environment. However, by stripping away society s rules on the island, Golding is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper proposes a study that analyzes the theory which holds that the death penalty will prevent people from committing heinous crimes. Two hypotheses oversee this study: 1) States that have a death penalty law will have lower rates of crimes punishable by death than states without death penalty laws, and 2) States that have the most executions will have fewer crimes punishable by death than states that do not execute often and those without a death penalty law. The death penalty is morally wrong and violates the Sixth Commandment of the Bible, which says you shall not murder , the Eighth Amendment which prohibits cruel and unusual punishment, and the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution which guarantees equal protection of the laws and due process. According to the Death Penalty Information Center, 972 people have been sentenced to death row in the United States since 1973. The main goals of the criminal justice system are to: rehabilitate offenders, and protect society from those offenders. Ernest Van Den Haag argues that doing justice or deterring others (102) are the objectives of the system. Therefore, the use of the death penalty is a means to an end. Opponents of the death penalty must convince its supporters that it does not fulfill either of these objectives while proponents rely on either argument for the justification of the system. In regards to this proposal, this study will: 1) focus on the deterrence factor rather than question whether the death penalty is ethical. Raymond T. Bye defines the cradle on which the theory of ... Trade Barriers From An Academic Standpoint Trade Barriers Allisa Bell ECN500 Global Economics Colorado State University Global Campus Dr. Walter Vanpoolen April 23, 2015 Trade Barriers From an academic standpoint, economists overall believe that free trade would benefit the economy more than instituting tariffs and non tariff trade barriers. However, the reality is quite different. Politically, tariffs help to strike a balance between social welfare and the politicians goals. One theory is that campaign contributions are needed for re election; and to achieve these funds, politicians will weigh this need against welfare reducing protection for industry lobbyists (Magee, 2011). The models would suggest that the tariffs should actually be much higher than they are due to the low efficiency cost of tariffs compared to the substantial gains provided for the producers (Magee, 2011). However, developed countries actually have very low tariffs. There are six possible explanations for why developed countries have such low tariffs when the political theories behind why we have tariffs at all would suggest they should be higher. Six Reasons for Low Tariffs There are six main reasons for the disparity realized between theory and reality. These explanations would suggest that politicians are just not responsive to the lobbying efforts, the welfare costs of the implemented tariffs are higher than anticipated, the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) successfully restrained trade barriers, free rider ...
