Survival At The Cost Of Mortality In Literature
The theme of survival at the cost of morality is evident in an abundant amount of literature seen
today. This type of literature is studied everywhere from school classrooms to reading on an
individual s free time. Morality relates to what behavior is considered right or wrong based on
an individual s ethics. Sometimes a person may do things that they did not originally intend to
do, but they feel as if they have to behave this way to get what they want, or even survive. The
characters discussed in this English course that have displayed the quality of survival at the cost of
mortality is Pi, Claudius, and Hamlet. The most obvious example of a character that had to go
against his morals to survive is Pi from Yann Martels Life of Pi. When... Show more content on

Hamlet is one of the most prominent characters discussed in the duration of the class because he
is a very diverse character. The first time Hamlet appears in the play Hamlet is when is hurt by
his mother s remarriage to Claudius: ...Why she, even she / O God, a beast that wants discourse
of reason/ Would have mourned longer! married with my/ uncle,/ My father s brother... (I, ii,
153 157). In this quotation, Hamlet compares Gertrude to an animal, saying that an animal
would mourn longer for its mate. By saying this, it further proves the emotional damage that this
marriage brought upon him. However, anyone would be upset if their mother ended up
marrying their deceased husband s brother, especially when the brother is the one that killed her
husband. Although this is not known by the reader or Hamlet yet because it is reveal shortly
after. When Hamlet speaks to the ghost of his father and discovered that his father was not bitten
by a snake and was actually murdered by Claudius, he has a plan: As I perchance hereafter shall
think meet/ To put an antic disposition on (I, v, 191 192). Saying that he will put an antic
disposition on really means that he will begin to act crazy to cover up his feelings and plans of
seeking revenge on King Claudius. Hamlet does this so the other citizens of Denmark will not
realise that anything is wrong and that he is plotting an

Essay about Foreign Policy
The Roosevelt Corollary greatly affected American foreign policy. It was in sharp contrast to the
Monroe Doctrine, put in place to stop foreign intervention with the American continents. In 1823
President Monroe implemented US policy that stated European powers were not allowed to
colonize or interfere with the newly budding United Statesor the Americas. In 1904 President
Roosevelt expanded upon this policy in response to European intervention with Latin America.
This policy became known as the Roosevelt Corollary. The document echoed the style of
leadership President Roosevelt became synonymous with. This more aggressive form of policy
became known as Big Stick Diplomacy. Foreign policy in the United States would forever be...

The economy was expanding and the US became more interested in the well being of surrounding
economies. The Dominican Republic was in debt to various European nations at this time. They
were having problems paying their debts and chose to stop paying them. In response to this issue,
President Theodore Roosevelt formulated an extension to the Monroe Doctrine. The Roosevelt
Corollary, as it became to be known, gave the US the power to intervene with European powers
coming west in an attempt to collect debts.2 The fear was that Europe, in an attempt to collect
debts, would occupy and control the country in debt. With the Panama Canal on the scope, this
would hinder economic stimulus in the US. President Roosevelt s beliefs are best captured in the
Corollary when he stated:
It is not true that the United States feels any land hunger or entertains any projects as regards the
other nations of the Western Hemisphere save such as are for their welfare. All that this country
desires is to see the neighboring countries stable, orderly, and prosperous. Any country whose
people conduct themselves well can count upon our hearty friendship. If a nation shows that it
knows how to act with reasonable efficiency and decency in social and political matters, if it keeps
order and pays its obligations, it need fear no interference from the United States.

Who Is Donald Trump A Good President
Grab them by the pussy! Donald J. Trump, the newly elected president of the United States is
known for his demeaning remarks against women and Latin American immigrants. Many people
believe that anyone who oversteps the boundaries of good taste and manner is unfit to be a leader
in a company or any organisation. However, proper manners are not what make a company
successful. A leader cannot care about every opinion if he bring his or his organization s agenda
forward.
Why do many people believe that leaders with personal indiscretions are unfit? The argument is
that they present a bad example for others. A leader who displays a lack of empathy will instill the
same in his followers. If my president does it, why shouldn t I, too? Supporters at Donald Trump s
rallies often became violent at protestors or immigrants, directly incinerated by Trump s speeches.
Here Trump was clearly a bad image for other people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Men and Women in Nontraditional Sports as Portrayed in Film Women and men play various
sports because they as Americans want to experience the excitement of playing for fun, and doing
something they love. The idea of what men and women can do for fun in sports has been shaped
by the American society in many different ways through the media, schooling and education, and
professional sports organizations. America portrays women playing field hockey and doing
synchronized swimming while men do boxing, and body building. If a woman chooses to do
boxing because to her it is fun and if a man chooses synchronized swimming because he likes it,
they face many cultural costs and benefits of choosing this sport. Society does not like change and...

The judges were forced to make an ambiguous line between what the difference was between a
man and a woman. The costs of this sport may be unfair judging of the bodybuilders because the
judges are still divided on what makes a woman s feminine form better. The bodybuilders had to
deal with assumptions of the public that accuse them of unnatural or homosexual. A main
character, Bev Francis had to frequently insist that she was a woman not a man, and she was
faced with the questioning of her sexuality. Bev s muscles, dress, heavy facial features, and
unfeminine body language evoke the stereotype of what a lesbian looks like: the butch, the
lesbian who is immediately recognizable as such, visibly different. Bev had a strong belief that
she looked like a woman and that she was beautiful and strong. A risk she faced was being hurt
by the public s comments about her body and sexuality. The social and cultural costs of being a
male playing non traditional sports does not seem as severe as it does because men are not
driven away from sports. Women are constantly being driven away from any sport from the fear
of being labeled as unfeminine or lesbian. Men who want to play non traditional sports will
probably be more likely to be stereotyped as gay, or feminine. But if a man plays a traditional male
sport, he will not be subjected to unwanted assumptions or sexual advances. Men do not benefit

Thailand s Current Form Of Government
Thailand, a nation located in Southeast Asia, is well known for its complex and turbulent political
history. Similar to the United Kingdom, the country s current form of government is based on a
constitutional monarchy. A hereditary Thai king serves as the head of state while a Prime Minister
is elected by a parliamentary government. Since the infamous 1932 revolution conducted by Royal
Thai Army officers and members of the country s wealthy, elite bureaucracy that put an end to the
country s absolute monarchy form of government, Thailandhas experienced many military
interventions in its political system that have included 19 coups and coup attempts. These have
been conducted, until recently, to maintain the political power of the aristocracy and ward off
perceived threats. As a result, the political and economic resources of the country are controlled by
an aristocracy, and democracyhas been in a constant state of flux for over 80 years. To understand
the complexity of Thailand s government, one must be aware and knowledgeable about how their
culture impacts the country s citizens standing and status in society. A centuries old culture based
on status derived from proximity to the monarchy dominates the political system in Thailand. The
sakdhina system, as it is referred to by the Thais, is a place of honor derived from ownership of
land granted to a citizen by the king (Albritton and Thawilwadee 3). Since the 1932 revolution, the
term has evolved to mean a citizen s

Healthcare delivery system main objectives. The main objective of a healthcare delivery system
is to ensure that anyone who needs healthcare receives the best care, at a price they can afford

healthcare system is large and varied. However, the basic functional components include running
the system, the different branches of the system, how services are rendered, how the services

running the system allows for quality control, making new polices, enforcing said polices, and
monitoring the different aspects of the healthcare delivery system (Barton, 2010, p. 7). The
different branches of the healthcare system allow for people from every level of the finance
scale to seek medical care (Barton, 2010, p. 7). The private market and volunteer organizations

Analysis Of The Book The Minstrel Show
Eleanor W. Traylor begins by explaining the fallacy in thinking that ragtime was the first and
foremost contributor to black theatre art in America. She argues that the source of all that can be
called representative American theatre is Aframerican (47). In other words, she elaborates, there
were two kinds of ceremonies and narratives pervasive to black theatre before ragtime. The minstrel
show is one example. The article stresses that the minstrel show was not invented by white
plantation owners, but that the minstrel show was a failed attempt at satirical imitation. The real
minstrel show came from the Afro American magic circle of creation (Traylor 48). In the same
page, she argues that their African AmericanMinstrel show had its roots in African tradition,
specifically, the Yoruba tradition. In this tradition, the mask is wood until it becomes the mask in
motion. Somehow, this mask got translated into blackface, into a tool for hiding rather than a tool
for revealing. The mask used in African American minstrelsy would reveal the spirit of the mask
wearer. Yoruba music would be wholly original, unusable by their white counterparts because it
wasn t wholly understood. The apparatus of using the wholly spiritual and authentic to create an art
that is fully American would evolve over the centuries until black theatre became what it is during
contemporary times. Traylor argues that it is the only truly American theatre because it was created
in America.

Bodies, Machines, and Male Power by M. Carme Alemany Gomez
I chose to write my reflection paper on reading number twenty two Bodies, Machines, and Male
Power. This chapter is written by M. Carme Alemany Gomez. This article talks about washing
machines, and how most people only think the value of a washing machine is cleanliness. This
article shows that there are diverse ways in which how genderand class, affect the design,
operation, and construction of washing machines in Spain. Also how technology reinforced these
relationships. They talk about the process of washing clothes when males designed the
machines. Women had to learn the very movements that she must do repeatedly while using the
machine. If women were given a voice during the beginning stages perhaps the technology
would have been designed differently. When someone is designing or building a technology,
they make decisions about some details that affect the users. As we all know the washing
machine has been around for quite some time. The models we see today have taken at least 40
years of work and changes to get to where they are today. This study is approached by three
theories they expected to see class and gender relations in the life of a machine. Second they drew
off a Chinese tradition of thought. Third gender relations were saw as a set of power relationships
that not only involve the construction of values, but also constitute a process of bodily submission,
as evidence in postures, gestures and movements (Gomez Pg. 390). According to the most recent

Jane Eyre And A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man
The novels Jane Eyre, by Charlotte BrontГ«, and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, by James
Joyce, both exemplify the bildungsroman style, showing the growth of the characters over the
course of each book. As bildungsroman novels, both texts share elements common to the genre,
such as focusing primarily on character thoughts and reactions. They also share traits like periods
of character development being tied to a particular place. However, they differ in other areas like
narration style, conflict, and dialogue. The literary techniques that BrontГ« and Joyce use cause
them to approach the development of self as shown in the characters coming of age, in different
ways, while still being in essence the same type of book, reflecting... Show more content on

Helen s devotion to her beliefs has a significant influence on Jane s development as she retains
strong ties to her principles throughout the book, as shown when she refuses to live with Rochester
as his wife after the revelation of Bertha Mason s continued existence. In Portrait, Christianity is
tied to Stephen Dedalus growth as well, but not in the same manner, as he does not increasingly
embrace religion as he matures. He instead maintains an off and on relationship with the church, as
he is at times wholly devoted to maintaining himself in the manner dictated by the Catholic
leadership and at others is as far as can be from what they give as standards of goodness and purity.
His conflict with establishment versus individuality culminates in Stephen rejecting the church s
teachings in favor of viewing the world through his own eyes, leaving the strictly scripted trappings
of traditional religion behind him, a major event in his development from childhood into adulthood.
Jane Eyre and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Manalso use distinct ways to show the growth of
identity in their characters. One of these is the narrator: in Jane Eyre, the story is told in first
person through Jane s own eyes. By writing in the first person, BrontГ« creates an effect by which
Jane s point of view is the only one that is available in its entirety

not only to deliver the message from God to the people but also to predict the future. For the bible

Instead, prophecy is to be regarded as purely a symbolic form of instruction regarding eternal truths
about good and evil. Most idealists are preterists. This suggests that the fulfillment of all prophecies
is of the past.
3)HISTORICISM: This system of interpretation is also known as the Protestant system because it
was cherished during the time surrounding the Reformation. It emphasizes the fact that prophecy
has continuity as its chief characteristic and that therefore the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation
are to interpreted as signifying events commencing at the time of the prophecy but surveying all
centuries until the end of time.
It is important for one to know, despite of the many schools of thought that may differ in their
interpretation. God has already made his message clear to us by the ministry of his prophets.
Ellen G. White, in her writings brings back to our memory that prophecy has its fulfilment in the
past, present and future. Some prophecies are already fulfilled, some are fulfilling in these actual
days while some are for the future. Therefore she says in her book Child Guidance that we cannot
afford to live with no reference to the Day of Judgment; for though long delayed, it is now near,

I can relate dancing to playing in two different ways. The first one, of course, whenever I am
dancing I can certainly feel like I am playing a game. By this I don t mean that I don t take dance
seriously. For the contrary, I enjoy dance to a level where I feel just like when I am playing a
videogame. Each new step I have to learn, represents a new challenge. Once I am able to
correctly perform said step, I have to keep practicing until I can perform it perfectly, then I can
move on to the next step. Once a choreography is complete, we, as dancers, are supposed to
rehearse it over and over again until we feel as confident as we can in order to be able to perform
it in the theatre. Reaching that point for me is like defeating the boss in a Mario Bros. game. One
can say the turtles, owls, and other enemies in the game could be represented by blisters, twisted
ankles, mistakes committed, and some other challenges we may encounter while trying to master a
piece of choreography.
The other way I can relate dance to play, which is kind of the most obvious one, are dance plays.

How far do you agree that the Hundred Flowers campaign was a trick designed by Mao to trap his

The Hundred Flowers Campaign began in 1957 when Mao Zedong declared in a speech, Let a

Chinese Communist Party. After members began pointing out where the party had made mistakes,
however, Mao suddenly reversed this new policy and began the Anti Rightist Movement,

Mao s retaliation was severe, precise, and on an enormously large scale. He was obviously poised
to attack, and this hints that the Hundred Flowers Campaign was merely a wily method of enticing
Mao s prey.
There is, on the other hand, much evidence to support that the campaign was a genuine attempt at
reform. In his Contradictions speech, given to leading party workers in early 1957, Mao
complained of the oppressive way some party officials were applying policies and hinted that it was
time to begin permitting intellectuals to voice their opinions. Furthermore, in 1956, he had been
tolerant of Hu Feng, a writer who challenged the idea that all artistic merit should be judged based
on Marxist Leninist values, even as other CCP leaders viciously censured him. These two examples
show that Mao, although previously disdainful of intellectuals, may have begun to see their
importance, and thus may have been honestly inviting their criticism when the Hundred Flowers
Campaign began.
In addition, the launching of the Hundred Flowers Campaign may have been triggered by events in
other communist states rather than a desire to trick party opponents. In 1956, Soviet Union leader
Nikita Khrushchev launched an attack on the previous leader Joseph Stalin, dead now for three
years, and his cult of personality, Mao probably saw how his own popularity adulating portraits of

Learning the Queen s English is like scrubbing off the bright red varnish from your toenails

realizes she has to let go of the things that make her a Nigerian girl in order to fit in. She talks
directly to the readers, Excuse me for learning your language properly. I am here to tell you a
real story. I did not come to talk to you about the bright African colors. I am a born again citizen
of the developing world and if it must be that I secretly love fried plantain then that must be
between us and I implore you to tell no one (Cleave 22). It is evident that Little Bee has lost her

through learning their language and reading their magazines she is still seen as an outsider and isn

through Little Bee s encounters with other refugees and her constant reference to the girls back
home . Throughout the novel, Little Bee imagines how she would explain England to the girls
back in her Nigerian village. This allows readers to evaluate the development and the change
Little Bee has gone through and the grave differences in culture. Little Bee s state of identity and
lack thereof is contrasted by a British pound coin. Little bee desires to be a coin, as it has the

Invasive Species In Yellowstone Lake
An invasive species is a plant, fungus, or animal species that is not native to a specific location
and one point should be noticed is that invasive species does not have to come from another
country. For example, lake trout are native to the Great Lakes, but are considered to be an invasive
species in Yellowstone Lake because they compete with native cutthroat trout for habitat. Although
there are some invasive species arrive with spread and establish populations, like the native
butterflies feed on non native plants in California, the alien trees help restore abandoned pastures to
a condition suitable for native plants in Puerto Rico and even the much maligned zebra mussel
helps filter toxins from great lakes, most policymakers regard invasive

The Works That Have Impacted The Art World And Have Made...
Research Paper Throughout time there has been of course many influences that have impacted the
art world and have made it what it is today. However, there are some artistic movements that have
had a greater impact and stand out over others. The movement that has always personally stood out
to me was Ancient Egyptian art. The works that were produced for time period are interesting in
terms of the lack of tools and the innovation to make these paintings, sculptures, and architecture
that almost seem impossible to have been constructed. In my opinion the arts produced during the

Instead we must develop a psychical distance or detachment from ancient Egyptian art in order to
view it in its purest aesthetic form. Once we have achieved this then we can move on to the first of
the two methods, formalism.
With this method of formalism we compare form and style, analyzing only the purely visual
aspects such as color, line, shape and texture of an object or artwork. Two formalist individuals
worth mentioning are Immanuel Kant and Clive Bell. Kant who teaches us the importance of the
disinterested viewer, and Bell who also explains this. Bell states in his article The Aesthetic
Hypothesis that Our practical interests, with their correlative pleasures and pains, are blended,
become confused now and then, and disquiet our aesthetic interest, but never become united with it
. So even though ancient Egyptian art has always stood out to me personally, we cannot let our
personal interests or emotions effect the way we analyze the works produced from ancient Egypt.
The second of the two methods needed to view and analyze the works from ancient Egypt is
iconography. This method studies the content of images and symbols depicted within a certain
work of art or interpretation of these. One art historian whose works of iconography are still
relevant today was Erwin Panofsky. Iconography is split into three levels of learning

Taking a Look at the Ipad Mini
Tablet Computer IPAD MINI Tablet PC is another mobile PC for mobile users. The tablet form
factor is typically smaller than a notebook computer but larger than a smart phone. It is highly
compact and easy to carry. Tablet PC mainly uses the screen for both input and output. Additional
features may include speakers, microphones and cameras. It is a wireless personal computerin the
form of a notebook and that allows a user to hand write notes with a stylus or digital pen on a
touch screen. Most tablets are slightly smaller and weigh less than the average laptop. While
some tablets include fold out keyboards, others, such as the Apple I Pad, only offer touch screen
input. Many tablets now support multi touch input, which allows you to perform gestures with
multiple fingers, such as pinching an image to zoom out, or spreading your fingers apart to
zoom in. Tablets without physical keyboards allow you to enter text using a pop up keyboard
that appears on the screen. Since tablets do not use a traditional keyboard and mouse as their
primary forms of input, the user interface of a tablet is different than a typical laptop. For
example, instead of double clicking to open a program, most applications open with a single tap.
Instead of clicking on a scroll bar to scroll through a window, most tablet applications allow you to
swipe up and down anywhere within a window to scroll through the content. Since tablet PCs

Captain Americ Civil War
The film Captain America: Civil War was based off of a script written by Christopher Markus
and Stephen McFeeley, and it was adjusted to one of Marvel Comics greatest crossover
occasions: Mark Millar s Civil War. The movie s plot is tied into the aftermath of The Avengers:
Age of Ultron. It could be argued that there isn t even a main villain in the story at all. The true
enemies in this film are the protagonists; Tony and Steve. This is an incredibly personal story. One
that focuses on the individual characters and their struggles. It s not about creating a villain for
them to fight, its about these people creating villains in each other.

In How To Tell If Your Child Is Lying
Consider the times at some point of your life you have lied when you were a child and why.
Some children worry how their mom and dad would react, whether or not if they would get into
trouble. Due to the fact that covering up the truth seems easier than dealing with a lie, one of the
unending problems that many parents face is lying by their children. Most children tell lies at some
point, but it can a surprise the first time you hear your child lying. Learning how to lieis part of a
child s development. Children can learn to tell lies from an early age, more often than not by
around three years of age. This is when your child starts to realize that you are not a mind reader,

Discipline should not concentrate simply on punishment for lying, but rather on getting to the
foundation of the lying to keep it from happening again. In the article How to Discipline a Child
for Lying by Maria Magher gives five steps. To understand the reasons were the very first step.
For example, if your child is lying to get attention, focus on giving more praise for good behavior
and spend more one on one time together. The second step was to discuss the expectations for
honesty. If they are in a situation in which you suspect that may be lying, or in which they may
be tempted to lie remind them to encourage the truth. The third step was to make outcomes and
be consistent in implementing them. In the same article, Dr. Phil McGraw states When children
know what consequences they will faces as a result of lying, they make the choice each time to
either lie or to accept the punishment . However, consequences should be age appropriate and
specific such as loss of phone privileges, limited social time or removal of the television from the
bedroom. The fourth step was to set your child up for progress. Don t ask your child questions to
which you know the answer and might be tempted to lie. For example, instead of saying Did you
clean your room? it is ideal to let them know I notice you didn t clean your room. Let s work on a
solution together . The last but not least step five was to focus

Essay on Andrew Jackson
Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, was born on March 15, 1767 in
Waxhaw on the North Carolina South Carolina border. He is a controversial man who greatly
impacted our country both during his presidency and long term. His actions may have been
questioned at the time, as some still are today, but his strong willed chauvinism in democracy is
just what our country needed to hold itself together. Jackson did not have a typical family setting
growing up. His father passed away before his birth, leaving his mother the single parent of three
young boys. To help lighten the burden of raising young children on her own, his mother moved in
with her Crawford relatives. There Jackson attended school, attaining an... Show more content on

senator. After his first year as senator, Jackson resigned to accept a job closer to home, judge of
Tennessee s superior court. Along his political ride, Jackson held his share of outrageous quarrels.
A hothead himself, Jackson was no foreigner to fights, brawls, or duels. Of these numerous

fired the first shot and struck Jackson in the chest. Despite the wound, Jackson showed no sign of

this that marked him as a violent and dangerous man, and helped block his further political advance

Screwtape Letter
Discerning Between Good and Evil Spirits The Screwtape Letters is an inverted approach to
Christianity that parallels the ideals in Ignatian spirituality. In a discussion of hell as a means of
business, an Uncle, Screwtape, writes letters of psychological insight for his nephew, Wormwood,
to coax his subject into turning towards Hell. Though C.S. Lewis writes from the perspective of
demons, this organically highlights the truths of Christianity. Screwtape pushes Wormwood to have
the patient discover evil in every dimension of his life as the patient begins to become a follower of
Christianity. To note, the Christian Godis labeled as the Enemy whereas the Devil is labeled as Our

As Ignatuis sees God present in our daily lives and our creator, so does Screwtape who pushes
Wormwood to distort this image. For example, Screwtape advises, keep him praying to it to the
thing he has made, not to the Person who has made him (Lewis 18). Screwtape respects God as
seen by the capitalization of the word Enemy and wants the patient to focus on the opposite of
God s virtues because God s love can prove his existence. The demons must work around God
and have their subjects focus on themselves not God. Furthermore, Wormwood has the subject
work with God through God s grace which protects subjects from the temptations of the devil.
Screwtape goes on to criticize Wormwood s ignorance when Wormwood, allowed [the patient]
two real positive Pleasures...[for] when they are wholly His they will be more themselves than
ever (64 65). God wants his followers to be wholly him and wholly themselves. It is loving God
back when a person is him/herself. Screwtape realizes the faults in letting him act, but the subject
only becomes more humble as Wormwood dismisses said advice. The third way in which the
spirit works is a vision of love. Screwtape berates the Enemy s philosophy of love that [t]hings are
to be many, yet somehow also one (94). God claims to be the Father, the Son,

No-No Boy Essay
In the novel, No No Boy, John Okada provides an ideological perspective of a young Japanese
American during the aftermath of World War II that gives the reader an insight into the racial
discrimination towards a race that is rarely acknowledged in United States history. The author uses
the past of Ichiro to determine the effect it has on his familyto guide the story and appeal to the
reader s pathos over a topic that is not widely discussed in modern society. The importance of the
past plays a huge role on the decisions and actions the characters take during Post World War II.
The influences his family gives him and the rapid change on how the Japanese descents are
viewed by Americans contributes to Ichiro s decisions and plans for his future. Although Ichiro
grew up during a world crisis in which his race was targeted in the United States, he was able to

The Dilemmas Of Desire In The Franklin s Tale
Genesis ValdezENG 4120 4 December 2017 The Dilemmas of Desire In Chaucer s Franklin Tale
the plot revolves around a married couple: the knight, Arviragus, his young wife, Dorigen, and a
young squire, Aurelius who importunes and attempts to Dorigen. The characters can be said to
oscillate between desire and their ego honor which affects what they say and do. Lacan s
definition of desire tells us that we desire for recognition from this Other. Our desire is to
become what the other person lacks. Duby s model of courtly love is a concept that focuses on
chivalry, nobility and women being at the center. In this paper, I will examine what the story
reveals about the relation each character has to his or her desire, how they act in accordance to
their desire and the role magic or illusion plays in the plot and how it affect characters relation to
desire. In The Franklin s Tale, Dorigen marries Arviragus and he promises to be true to her and
never take an authoritarian role over her. Dorigen promises that in return she will be his humble
true wife and will give him his sovereignty. Arviragus gives Dorigen power in the relationship
and has dominion. Arviragus demonstrates courtly love because he serves her in a way that

average temperature of the Earth s atmosphere and its oceans, a change that is believed to be
permanently changing the Earth s climate. Global warmingdoes not only increase temperature it is

Ever since the industrial revolution earth s atmosphere has begun to heat up. The Industrial
Revolution was the transition to new manufacturing processes in the period from about 1760 to
sometime between 1820 and 1840. During that time period burning coal was used to power
machines and factories. Coal is considered a fossil fuel, it is unreplaceable. Also burning coal is
harmful for the environment. Although the use of coal has decreased, it is still in places and its
harming the environment. Greenhouse gases harm the environment dramatically. Green house gas
is best known as any gaseous compound in the atmosphere that is capable of absorbing infrared
radiation, thereby trapping and holding heat in the atmosphere (A Blanket Around the Earth, 1). By
increasing the heat in the atmosphere, greenhouse gases are responsible for the greenhouse effect,
which ultimately leads to global warming. Most climate scientists agree the main cause of the
current global warming trend is human expansion of the greenhouse effect (A Blanket Around the
Earth, 1). So its obvious greenhouse gases which are a caused by human activity are a major
contribution to global warming. Long lived gases that remain semi permanently in the atmosphere
and do not respond physically or chemically to changes in temperature and described as forcing
climate change (A Blanket Around the Earth, 1). This quote shows how greenhouse gases cause

Lost Dog Budweiser Commercial Analysis
With over thirty million views, Budweiser s 2015 Super Bowl Commercial Lost Dog has stolen
the hearts of many. Budweiser commercials are a Super Bowl tradition. This commercial in
particular was somewhat of a sequel from the previous 2014 Super Bowl commercial. Both
starred a small golden Labrador puppy, a Clydesdale horse and possibly the horse trainer or
owner. Each year Budweiser is faced with the challenge of topping the previous year s
commercial. An example would be in 2013, they told the story of the bond between the horse and
its trainer. The next year, they added a puppy. Budweiser s Lost Dog relies heavily on connections
for conveying its message and appeals strongly to the emotions whether it be the music, the idea of
a lost puppy, or in through the powerful friendships. Throughout the entirety of the commercial,
Budweiser does not seem to go out of their way to advertise for their beer. The Budweiser logo
only appears twice in the whole one minute commercial, on the hat of the owner and then at the
very end of the commercial. A truly great advertiser is able to convey a message without clearly
stating it. Instead they rely solely on the connections that can be made throughout the commercial.

Executive Compensation Structures And Fraud Research Paper

The past decade has been witness to some of the worst accounts of corporate fraud ever recorded,
with multi billion dollar companies such as Enron, Tyco, and World com involved in serious
financial scandals. CEOs and senior executives are often the driving force behind such
unscrupulous activities by adopting shady accounting practices and other forms of short termist
actions for the purpose of increasing their firm s stock price and their own personal wealth. The

In practice, the use of stock options in the corporate sector has increased to account for nearly
two thirds of total pay for CEOs in median firms, a figure that trumps 1984 estimates, where
stock options accounted for only 1% of total pay (Denis et al., 2006). So the question we must
ask is when we use stock option based incentives for executives, does the evidence warrant the
need for greater controls or regulation? Denis et al. (2006) briefly explores the idea of the need
for greater outside monitoring, and discusses how the dark side of stock incentive compensation
may require robust corporate governance structures to counter veil the negative effects. Erickson

stock options. They (Erickson et al. 2006) state that the intent of their research was in part to
resolve the question as to whether there exists evidence that stock based compensation is tied to
accounting fraud. Since no evidence is found, the policy implications for greater controls are
limited. Burns et al. (2006) study has implications for the level of options and equity in CEO
remuneration contracts. Efendi et al. (2007) does not provide any policy recommendations, but do

The Factors Of Homicide Suicide
Factors of Homicide Suicide
Anastasia Mendola
Kean University Fall 2015
Research Methods
Prof. Fernando Linhares
Introduction This paper is being submitted for research methods at Kean University for the fall
2015 semester to discuss factors of homicide suicide. The variables I will be using in the discussion
will be, male perpetrators, male victims, female perpetrators, female victims, marriage victims and
marriage perpetrators. Murder suicide is defined as a homicide that is followed by the suicide of
the perpetrator within one week, sometimes a max of two weeks in some cases. The definitions
of the variables are as follow. A male perpetrator is a male that has committed the act of homicide
on another human being, than in return take his life within a week of the killing. A female
perpetrator is a female that has committed the acts of homicide on another human being, than in
return takes her life within one week of the killing. A male victims is a male who is the victims of
the homicide. A female victims is a female who is the victimof the crime. Marital status is the
status in which both the perpetrator and the victim are in which each other. It can be classified as
married, separate, divorced or single. Homicide Suicide rates are a growing number in the United
States and the countries around. They were once something that rarely occurred but then they

Tropical Cyclones and Climate Change
Tropical cyclones (TCs) are of the most extreme and dangerous weather phenomena on Earth. In
the United States, landfalling TCs account for an average of $10 billion damages annually
(Pielke et al. 2008). Hurricane Katrina (2005) alone caused $81 billion of damages and took more
than 1,800 lives away. In developing countries, TC landfalls can be extremely detrimental. For
example, Cyclone Nargis (2008) took more than 130,000 lives in Myanmer (Burma) . Due to the
catastrophic nature of TCs, substantial efforts have been devoted to short term predictions of TC

At intraseasonal (30 90 day) scale, the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO, Madden and Julian 1972)
has substantial impacts upon retional TC activities in multiple basins; Indian Oceans (Hall et al.
2001, Bessafi and Wheeler 2006), western North Pacific (e.g., Liebmann et al. 1994), eastern North
Pacific (e.g., Maloney and Hartmann 2000a), and Gulf of Mexico (Maloney and Hartmann 2000b).
Association of these modes of variabilities to TC activity has contributed to substantial increase of
understanding in long term variation of TC activities in different regions. It is also true that the
modulations of seasonal to interannual variations of TC activities by these modes of variability
complicate the separation of natural variabilities and climate change signal. Recent studies have
identified some emerging trends in regional TC activities. Using observed TC track data, Webster
et al. (2005) reported increasing trends in intense (Category 4+ in the Saffir Simpson Hurricane
Scale) TCs in all TC basins. North Atlantic TC activity over the past 30 years has particularly
attracted strong interest in part due to the availability of more reliable observed TC track data
(discussed later in the chapter) and the noted increasing trends both in frequency and intensity.
Increase of North Atlantic intense storms is reflected to the increasing trend of the overall

Memory Vs Human Memory
1. The purpose of memory, whether it be in humans or machine, is to store information for a
period of time. Both human memory and the memory used in artificial devices are capable of
doing so but they differ in many ways; two differences being discussed will be on how memory is
encoded, and how memory is stored.
There are endless stimuli in the world meaning we humans are constantly feeling, hearing, smelling,
tasting, and touching; at any given point in time, our brain is working and processing this into our
sensory memory. Information encoded in our sensory memory will only last a very short amount of
time (A few seconds sometimes even shorter) before it is either forgotten or transferred to the next
memory store, short term (Also known as working memory). The main factor in whether
information is further retained to short term memory, is attention. The three main ways information
can be encoded is through visual, auditory, and semantic coding. Visual coding enables information
to be stored as pictures, auditory stored as sounds, and semantic stored as meaning.
Memory encoding in machines can be stored as pictures and sounds but meaning is exclusive to
humans. Computer memory does not depend on attention; whatever is captured/experienced by the
machine will be encoded in the artificial device. Unlike human memory, the information will not be
forgotten if there is not enough attention and will be stored; bringing us to our next difference.
The memory used in artificial devices uses complex systems such as primary/secondary memory,
RAM, caches, etc. However, machine memory can explained described as black or white ; they
either know something or they don t, and when they do learn something they generally don t forget
(Unless they re programmed to do so).
This is where memory storage differs in the human system. As previously mentioned information is
stored in the short term/working memory with attention heavily factoring it s retention. Now for

The Difference between Terrorism and Domestic Terrorism Essay
The terms terrorism and domestic terrorism are very similar concepts. There are, however, slight
differences in each. Entities that are apart of the Government have slightly different ways of
explaining what they believe to be the correct definition of terrorism and domestic terrorism. In this
paper the author will offer definitions of the two terms and state which one they agree with the
most. The author will also state how the two terms are best differentiated.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) defines terrorism on the basis of three characteristics. In
order for an act to be considered terrorism, it needs to be (1) a violent act, or acts dangerous to
human life that violates laws; (2) appear to be intended (i) to intimidate or ... Show more content on

They elucidate that terrorism is a premeditated, politically motivated, violence perpetrated against
noncombatant targets by subnational groups of clandestine agents, usually intended to influence an
audience, (National Institute of Justice).
All of the definitions that the author has presented tend to share a common theme. In each of the
previous definitions, the use of force that is intended to coerce or sway a course of action that
furthers a social, or political goal. In most cases, the FBI definition is the one most widely used
and accepted by law enforcement entities (National Institute of Justice). The author seconds that the
FBI definition is the one that she agrees with the most. The FBI definition seems like the only one
that doesn t leave anything out. It is the most descriptive, and unlike the American Heritage
definition, it broadens the scope of terrorists from being a certain type of group to the possibility of
it being just one man or woman.
The FBI also gives a definition of domestic terrorism that is very similar to its definition of
terrorism, but has a minor difference. Like terrorism, there are three characteristics that need to be
met in order to define an act as domestic terrorism. The first characteristic is that it needs to
involve acts that are dangerous to human life that violate federal or state laws. The second
characteristic is it needs to appear intended to (i) intimidate or coerce civilian population; (ii)

Malcom X Family Service Essay
The differences between the New Deal reformers and the child welfare workers who provided
services to Malcom X s family was that the child welfare workers were not providing adequate
and equal services to the family(Haley, 1996). Malcom X s stated that when the social worker
came to their home they were looked at as if they were not people . Even though Malcom X s
family was receiving some kind of service, to the eyesight of these people Malcom x s stated that
they were just like things . The social welfare system did not treated them with respect. The state
welfare people were after the Malcom X s and his brother and sister for placement. Their purpose
was not to keep together the family, but to separate all of the children. Back in Malcom X s time

people were restrained of living in certain areas, when there was a particular situation or the child

adequate services to the Malcom X s family f they lack of sensitiveness and discriminated against

Furthermore, as time progresses, black children were place in institutions (Harley, 1996). For the
state welfare people it was much easier for them to remove the black children to these institutions
than bother to resolve their situations. The New Deal reformers were, new programs that were

Mary Schapiro s Job Was to Fix the Sec. She Didn t Stop...
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was reeling in the wake of harsh but
justified criticism for failing to predict, control or even contain the global financial crisis. Under
its watch, fraudster Bernard Madoff managed to В¬operate the largest Ponzi scheme in history and
Wall Street stalwart Lehman Brothers collapsed, taking billions of dollars, business confidence
and reputations down with it. It was a heady time with traders investing in schemes they, let alone
the regulators, didn t understand and whose behaviour they couldn t predict. Related: SEC

Because if it doesn t, we don t really have time for it right now. Maybe someday, but right now

Zara Global Chain Essay
Introduction The global apparel chain had been categorized as a typical example of a buyer
driven global chain. The Chain is operating independently and is responsible for its own strategy,
product design, sourcing and manufacturing, distribution, image, personnel, and financial results.
Zara was the largest and most internationalized chain of Inditex, which is its owner, and on
account being a better established chain it expanded into neighbouring markets (Z8). Zara
played the lead role in increasing the share of Inditex s sales accounted for by international
operations and it continued to be the principal driver of the group s growth despite the expected
slight drop in the share of the group s total sales (Z9). Zara will be analysed based on strategic
capability, core competences and assets routines and values criteria, predominantly on resource
based view. The resource based view can be described as the competitive advantage of an
organization explained by the uniqueness of its capabilities (Johnson, Scholes, Whittington, 2005).
In addition to this, by that the firms are recognized as internally heterogeneous and possess
exclusive masses of resources (McGee, Thomas, Wilson, 2010). Furthermore, the resource based
view emphasizes the internal capabilities of the organization in formulation strategy to achieve a
sustainable competitive advantage in its markets and industries (Henry, 2011). Strategic Capability
Firstly, we assess and define Zara s strategic capability.

Essay On Limbic Brain Vs Neocortex
In a paragraph, discuss at least two key ideas from this chapter that you found to be interesting or
that stood out to you in some way, and explain, with example and details, why you found them to
be interesting. It s interesting to me that the limbic brain is said to have no capacity for language
. Seems strange to me to think of any one part of the brain functioning independently of any of the
other parts of the brain. I was also interested in the statement about rational decisions taking longer
to make, and that they can be of lesser quality. My guess is that it depends on the individuals
experience with making types of decisions that they are familiar or unfamiliar with, as to the
quality of the decision that will be arrived at, regardless... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These can be about the chapter itself or a question that popped into your head as you were
reading. Anything you are wondering about is good. 1.If the limbic brain (which drives
behavior) has no capacity for language; what are the possibilities for creating more connections
between the limbic brain and the neocortex? 2.If it were possible to observe the functions of the
limbic brain s behavior from the perspective of the neocortex, would it be possible to integrate a
more complex and inclusive why motivated behavior, balanced into the grounding of reason and
logic? And or vice versa. In what way do you think Sinek s ideas apply to relationships? Is it
important to consider why you enter a relationship with someone, rather than simple attraction?
What impact would it have on relationships (not just romantic ones) if the people in the relationship
had different WHYS?
Relationships are affected by collections of whys . There is each
person, and their own particular whys that come from their own personality in some way. Then
there are the togetherness whys that come from the unity of the relationship that seem to sort of
merge or correspond with each person in a more fluid

Disaster Of A Subduction Zone
1. Introduction On Friday March 11th, 2011 at 2:46 pm, the fifth largest earthquake recorded since
1900 with a magnitude of 9.0, 1.7 Richter scale points greater than the devastating Vancouver Island
earthquake of 1946, struck the coast of Japan, 231 miles northeast of Tokyo1, causing a devastating
regional and global catastrophe.
1.1 Megathrust Earthquakes Megathrust earthquakes are defined as interplate earthquakes caused
by one tectonic plate being forced under another in a subduction zone. During the lifetime of a
subduction zone, two plates are constantly moving towards each other, and due to the great amount
of friction, these plates get stuck in various areas 2 (fig 1). Due to the build up of stress in these
areas, the plates eventually unlock and release a great amount of energy, resulting in a megathrust
earthquake2.
1.2 Tsunamis Since these earthquakes are caused by tectonic plate movement therefore displacing
the ocean floor they are almost always accompanied by massive ocean waves, sometimes reaching
heights of over 100 ft and reaching speeds of 500 mph, known as seismic sea waves or more
commonly known as Tsunamis4. Alongside the catastrophic events that megathrust earthquakes
ensue on an affected region these colossal Tsunamiwaves further destruct costal lines in their path,
sometimes reaching many miles inland.

Primary Source Vs Secondary Source Analysis
The major differences that exist between primary source and secondary source authors are its
reliability and credibility. Secondary source authors hold certain disadvantages in that the authors
did not directly experience the actual event, meaning that they do not have a first hand account of
the experience that occurred. Because these secondary sourceauthors were not affected, their
information could contain inaccurate data, or their opinions askew due to their lack of a direct
experience. Although secondary sources may have their disadvantages, secondary source authors
have the ability to analyze, interpret, evaluate, and synthesize the original events and data that
could not be done initially due to time constraints. With the ability to analyze statistics and
documents, authors can construct explanations and justifications as to why these events arose....

Secondary sources may include a collection of multiple reliable sources, but secondary source
authors have a high possibility of distorting historical accuracy due to their perspective. However,
primary source authors may not be completely reliable, may be one sided, and cannot be
consulted for verification since they are deceased. Take for example, Bartolome de las Casas
who took the side of the Indians after he witnessed a full scale massacre. Bartolome stated, The
reason the Christians have murdered on such a vast scale and killed anyone and everyone in their
way is purely and simply greed. His opinions are one sided due to his past observance of only a part

Why Men Are More Talented At Design Than Women
There is no way to accurately measure the success rate of designers based on sex or sexual
orientation, or, somewhat speciously, to examine if men are more talented at design than women.
As Valerie Steele, the chief curator of the Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology, said:
There is no gay gene for creativity.
But circumstantial evidence is making some designers wonder about the disparities. Of the
young American designers most embraced by retailers and celebrated in the fashion press in
recent years, the roll call is almost exclusively male: Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez
and Mr. Som as well as Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler. Their female
contemporaries have had a harder time breaking through, among them Behnaz Sarafpour, Alice Roi
and Ms. Subkoff.
Gay men stick together like a band of brothers, Ms. Subkoff said in an interview. It s more
common for a man to bring up a younger assistant who is male and be proud of that, she added,
whereas a woman would be threatened to promote another woman.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America, a trade group that vets those who apply for
membership, is made up of 121 women and 156 men. Since 1986 its annual Perry Ellis awards for
young talent have been given to 8 women and 29 men (20 of them openly gay).
Who s Who in Fashion, a directory published by Fairchild Publications, is split 60 40 in favor of
men, and The Encyclopedia of Clothing and Fashion, published last year

Quotes For The Maze Runner
He died saving you. He made the choice himself. Just don t ever waste it. One of the last quotes
from James Dashner s novel, The Maze Runner. This science fiction novel is written as a form of
dystopian literature. This novel is the first of The Maze Runner Series, which consists of two
additional novels, The Scorch Trials and The Death Cure. Some of the main characters include,
Teresa, Chuck, Minho, Alby, and Newt, who all guide Thomas, the protagonist, in their quest to
escape the Glade. The Glade, a meadow the size of several football fields surrounded by vast walls
that form an immense maze, is the main setting of this story based on a post apocalyptic future.

While embarking in this journey, a question must be present at all times, that is, who put these
people here? Little is known of the Creators and their goals, but from what they are doing,
people can assume they don t have the best intentions. Whatever the reason, it makes me sick!
The Grievers, the walls moving, the Cliff they re just elements of a stupid test. We re being used
and manipulated.... They re throwing crazy things at us to see our response, test our will. See if
we ll turn on each other. In the end, they want the survivors for something important. (pg. 305)
However, it turns out, this adventure, is simply a test or a trial, to find the strongest who can
survive the greatest feats. The most successful experiment will work as the model to create a cure
necessary for the survival of the world. In other words, while having good intentions, these Creators
have done sadistic and unjustifiable things in order to get their results. In my opinion, no matter
how good someone s intentions are, lives lost in vain are not

  • 2. Survival At The Cost Of Mortality In Literature The theme of survival at the cost of morality is evident in an abundant amount of literature seen today. This type of literature is studied everywhere from school classrooms to reading on an individual s free time. Morality relates to what behavior is considered right or wrong based on an individual s ethics. Sometimes a person may do things that they did not originally intend to do, but they feel as if they have to behave this way to get what they want, or even survive. The characters discussed in this English course that have displayed the quality of survival at the cost of mortality is Pi, Claudius, and Hamlet. The most obvious example of a character that had to go against his morals to survive is Pi from Yann Martels Life of Pi. When... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hamlet is one of the most prominent characters discussed in the duration of the class because he is a very diverse character. The first time Hamlet appears in the play Hamlet is when is hurt by his mother s remarriage to Claudius: ...Why she, even she / O God, a beast that wants discourse of reason/ Would have mourned longer! married with my/ uncle,/ My father s brother... (I, ii, 153 157). In this quotation, Hamlet compares Gertrude to an animal, saying that an animal would mourn longer for its mate. By saying this, it further proves the emotional damage that this marriage brought upon him. However, anyone would be upset if their mother ended up marrying their deceased husband s brother, especially when the brother is the one that killed her husband. Although this is not known by the reader or Hamlet yet because it is reveal shortly after. When Hamlet speaks to the ghost of his father and discovered that his father was not bitten by a snake and was actually murdered by Claudius, he has a plan: As I perchance hereafter shall think meet/ To put an antic disposition on (I, v, 191 192). Saying that he will put an antic disposition on really means that he will begin to act crazy to cover up his feelings and plans of seeking revenge on King Claudius. Hamlet does this so the other citizens of Denmark will not realise that anything is wrong and that he is plotting an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about Foreign Policy The Roosevelt Corollary greatly affected American foreign policy. It was in sharp contrast to the Monroe Doctrine, put in place to stop foreign intervention with the American continents. In 1823 President Monroe implemented US policy that stated European powers were not allowed to colonize or interfere with the newly budding United Statesor the Americas. In 1904 President Roosevelt expanded upon this policy in response to European intervention with Latin America. This policy became known as the Roosevelt Corollary. The document echoed the style of leadership President Roosevelt became synonymous with. This more aggressive form of policy became known as Big Stick Diplomacy. Foreign policy in the United States would forever be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The economy was expanding and the US became more interested in the well being of surrounding economies. The Dominican Republic was in debt to various European nations at this time. They were having problems paying their debts and chose to stop paying them. In response to this issue, President Theodore Roosevelt formulated an extension to the Monroe Doctrine. The Roosevelt Corollary, as it became to be known, gave the US the power to intervene with European powers coming west in an attempt to collect debts.2 The fear was that Europe, in an attempt to collect debts, would occupy and control the country in debt. With the Panama Canal on the scope, this would hinder economic stimulus in the US. President Roosevelt s beliefs are best captured in the Corollary when he stated: It is not true that the United States feels any land hunger or entertains any projects as regards the other nations of the Western Hemisphere save such as are for their welfare. All that this country desires is to see the neighboring countries stable, orderly, and prosperous. Any country whose people conduct themselves well can count upon our hearty friendship. If a nation shows that it knows how to act with reasonable efficiency and decency in social and political matters, if it keeps order and pays its obligations, it need fear no interference from the United States. ... • 4. Who Is Donald Trump A Good President Grab them by the pussy! Donald J. Trump, the newly elected president of the United States is known for his demeaning remarks against women and Latin American immigrants. Many people believe that anyone who oversteps the boundaries of good taste and manner is unfit to be a leader in a company or any organisation. However, proper manners are not what make a company successful. A leader cannot care about every opinion if he bring his or his organization s agenda forward. Why do many people believe that leaders with personal indiscretions are unfit? The argument is that they present a bad example for others. A leader who displays a lack of empathy will instill the same in his followers. If my president does it, why shouldn t I, too? Supporters at Donald Trump s rallies often became violent at protestors or immigrants, directly incinerated by Trump s speeches. Here Trump was clearly a bad image for other people. ... • 5. Essay on Men and Women in Nontraditional Sports as... Men and Women in Nontraditional Sports as Portrayed in Film Women and men play various sports because they as Americans want to experience the excitement of playing for fun, and doing something they love. The idea of what men and women can do for fun in sports has been shaped by the American society in many different ways through the media, schooling and education, and professional sports organizations. America portrays women playing field hockey and doing synchronized swimming while men do boxing, and body building. If a woman chooses to do boxing because to her it is fun and if a man chooses synchronized swimming because he likes it, they face many cultural costs and benefits of choosing this sport. Society does not like change and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The judges were forced to make an ambiguous line between what the difference was between a man and a woman. The costs of this sport may be unfair judging of the bodybuilders because the judges are still divided on what makes a woman s feminine form better. The bodybuilders had to deal with assumptions of the public that accuse them of unnatural or homosexual. A main character, Bev Francis had to frequently insist that she was a woman not a man, and she was faced with the questioning of her sexuality. Bev s muscles, dress, heavy facial features, and unfeminine body language evoke the stereotype of what a lesbian looks like: the butch, the lesbian who is immediately recognizable as such, visibly different. Bev had a strong belief that she looked like a woman and that she was beautiful and strong. A risk she faced was being hurt by the public s comments about her body and sexuality. The social and cultural costs of being a male playing non traditional sports does not seem as severe as it does because men are not driven away from sports. Women are constantly being driven away from any sport from the fear of being labeled as unfeminine or lesbian. Men who want to play non traditional sports will probably be more likely to be stereotyped as gay, or feminine. But if a man plays a traditional male sport, he will not be subjected to unwanted assumptions or sexual advances. Men do not benefit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Thailand s Current Form Of Government Thailand, a nation located in Southeast Asia, is well known for its complex and turbulent political history. Similar to the United Kingdom, the country s current form of government is based on a constitutional monarchy. A hereditary Thai king serves as the head of state while a Prime Minister is elected by a parliamentary government. Since the infamous 1932 revolution conducted by Royal Thai Army officers and members of the country s wealthy, elite bureaucracy that put an end to the country s absolute monarchy form of government, Thailandhas experienced many military interventions in its political system that have included 19 coups and coup attempts. These have been conducted, until recently, to maintain the political power of the aristocracy and ward off perceived threats. As a result, the political and economic resources of the country are controlled by an aristocracy, and democracyhas been in a constant state of flux for over 80 years. To understand the complexity of Thailand s government, one must be aware and knowledgeable about how their culture impacts the country s citizens standing and status in society. A centuries old culture based on status derived from proximity to the monarchy dominates the political system in Thailand. The sakdhina system, as it is referred to by the Thais, is a place of honor derived from ownership of land granted to a citizen by the king (Albritton and Thawilwadee 3). Since the 1932 revolution, the term has evolved to mean a citizen s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Analysis Of The Book The Minstrel Show Eleanor W. Traylor begins by explaining the fallacy in thinking that ragtime was the first and foremost contributor to black theatre art in America. She argues that the source of all that can be called representative American theatre is Aframerican (47). In other words, she elaborates, there were two kinds of ceremonies and narratives pervasive to black theatre before ragtime. The minstrel show is one example. The article stresses that the minstrel show was not invented by white plantation owners, but that the minstrel show was a failed attempt at satirical imitation. The real minstrel show came from the Afro American magic circle of creation (Traylor 48). In the same page, she argues that their African AmericanMinstrel show had its roots in African tradition, specifically, the Yoruba tradition. In this tradition, the mask is wood until it becomes the mask in motion. Somehow, this mask got translated into blackface, into a tool for hiding rather than a tool for revealing. The mask used in African American minstrelsy would reveal the spirit of the mask wearer. Yoruba music would be wholly original, unusable by their white counterparts because it wasn t wholly understood. The apparatus of using the wholly spiritual and authentic to create an art that is fully American would evolve over the centuries until black theatre became what it is during contemporary times. Traylor argues that it is the only truly American theatre because it was created in America. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Bodies, Machines, and Male Power by M. Carme Alemany Gomez I chose to write my reflection paper on reading number twenty two Bodies, Machines, and Male Power. This chapter is written by M. Carme Alemany Gomez. This article talks about washing machines, and how most people only think the value of a washing machine is cleanliness. This article shows that there are diverse ways in which how genderand class, affect the design, operation, and construction of washing machines in Spain. Also how technology reinforced these relationships. They talk about the process of washing clothes when males designed the machines. Women had to learn the very movements that she must do repeatedly while using the machine. If women were given a voice during the beginning stages perhaps the technology would have been designed differently. When someone is designing or building a technology, they make decisions about some details that affect the users. As we all know the washing machine has been around for quite some time. The models we see today have taken at least 40 years of work and changes to get to where they are today. This study is approached by three theories they expected to see class and gender relations in the life of a machine. Second they drew off a Chinese tradition of thought. Third gender relations were saw as a set of power relationships that not only involve the construction of values, but also constitute a process of bodily submission, as evidence in postures, gestures and movements (Gomez Pg. 390). Jane Eyre And A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man The novels Jane Eyre, by Charlotte BrontГ«, and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, by James Joyce, both exemplify the bildungsroman style, showing the growth of the characters over the course of each book. As bildungsroman novels, both texts share elements common to the genre, such as focusing primarily on character thoughts and reactions. They also share traits like periods of character development being tied to a particular place. However, they differ in other areas like narration style, conflict, and dialogue. The literary techniques that BrontГ« and Joyce use cause them to approach the development of self as shown in the characters coming of age, in different ways, while still being in essence the same type of book, reflecting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Helen s devotion to her beliefs has a significant influence on Jane s development as she retains strong ties to her principles throughout the book, as shown when she refuses to live with Rochester as his wife after the revelation of Bertha Mason s continued existence. In Portrait, Christianity is tied to Stephen Dedalus growth as well, but not in the same manner, as he does not increasingly embrace religion as he matures. He instead maintains an off and on relationship with the church, as he is at times wholly devoted to maintaining himself in the manner dictated by the Catholic leadership and at others is as far as can be from what they give as standards of goodness and purity. His conflict with establishment versus individuality culminates in Stephen rejecting the church s teachings in favor of viewing the world through his own eyes, leaving the strictly scripted trappings of traditional religion behind him, a major event in his development from childhood into adulthood. Jane Eyre and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Manalso use distinct ways to show the growth of identity in their characters. One of these is the narrator: in Jane Eyre, the story is told in first person through Jane s own eyes. By writing in the first person, BrontГ« creates an effect by which Jane s point of view is the only one that is available in its entirety ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Kant s Utilitarianism Jeremy Bentham founded Utilitarianism. Utilitarianism is to defend the view that those acts that produce the greatest happiness of the greatest number of people are right and good (Deininger 2015). There was a girl with a black leotard and a red flowy skirt standing in front of us, with her mother. Your daughter dances Flamenco, right? Where does she take classes? My mother asked the girl s mother. Next thing I remember, I was in a dancestudio, staring at a group of dancers who seemed to be flying across the room, all wearing long skirts and dance shoes. The first one, of course, whenever I am dancing I can certainly feel like I am playing a game. By this I don t mean that I don t take dance seriously. For the contrary, I enjoy dance to a level where I feel just like when I am playing a videogame. Each new step I have to learn, represents a new challenge. Once I am able to correctly perform said step, I have to keep practicing until I can perform it perfectly, then I can move on to the next step. Once a choreography is complete, we, as dancers, are supposed to rehearse it over and over again until we feel as confident as we can in order to be able to perform it in the theatre. Reaching that point for me is like defeating the boss in a Mario Bros. game. One can say the turtles, owls, and other enemies in the game could be represented by blisters, twisted ankles, mistakes committed, and some other challenges we may encounter while trying to master a piece of choreography. The other way I can relate dance to play, which is kind of the most obvious one, are dance plays. He was obviously poised to attack, and this hints that the Hundred Flowers Campaign was merely a wily method of enticing Mao s prey. There is, on the other hand, much evidence to support that the campaign was a genuine attempt at reform. In his Contradictions speech, given to leading party workers in early 1957, Mao complained of the oppressive way some party officials were applying policies and hinted that it was time to begin permitting intellectuals to voice their opinions. Furthermore, in 1956, he had been tolerant of Hu Feng, a writer who challenged the idea that all artistic merit should be judged based on Marxist Leninist values, even as other CCP leaders viciously censured him. These two examples show that Mao, although previously disdainful of intellectuals, may have begun to see their importance, and thus may have been honestly inviting their criticism when the Hundred Flowers Campaign began. In addition, the launching of the Hundred Flowers Campaign may have been triggered by events in other communist states rather than a desire to trick party opponents. Research Paper Throughout time there has been of course many influences that have impacted the art world and have made it what it is today. However, there are some artistic movements that have had a greater impact and stand out over others. The movement that has always personally stood out to me was Ancient Egyptian art. The works that were produced for time period are interesting in terms of the lack of tools and the innovation to make these paintings, sculptures, and architecture that almost seem impossible to have been constructed. In my opinion the arts produced during the Early Dynastic through the New Kingdom of Ancient Egyptare some of the most technologically advance forms that stand out over all other art forms for the time... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead we must develop a psychical distance or detachment from ancient Egyptian art in order to view it in its purest aesthetic form. Once we have achieved this then we can move on to the first of the two methods, formalism. With this method of formalism we compare form and style, analyzing only the purely visual aspects such as color, line, shape and texture of an object or artwork. Two formalist individuals worth mentioning are Immanuel Kant and Clive Bell. Kant who teaches us the importance of the disinterested viewer, and Bell who also explains this. Bell states in his article The Aesthetic Hypothesis that Our practical interests, with their correlative pleasures and pains, are blended, become confused now and then, and disquiet our aesthetic interest, but never become united with it . So even though ancient Egyptian art has always stood out to me personally, we cannot let our personal interests or emotions effect the way we analyze the works produced from ancient Egypt. The second of the two methods needed to view and analyze the works from ancient Egypt is iconography. This method studies the content of images and symbols depicted within a certain work of art or interpretation of these. Executive Compensation Structures And Fraud Research Paper Introduction: The past decade has been witness to some of the worst accounts of corporate fraud ever recorded, with multi billion dollar companies such as Enron, Tyco, and World com involved in serious financial scandals. CEOs and senior executives are often the driving force behind such unscrupulous activities by adopting shady accounting practices and other forms of short termist actions for the purpose of increasing their firm s stock price and their own personal wealth. The following paper will investigate whether there is a link between executive compensation structures and fraud or misreporting. In practice, the use of stock options in the corporate sector has increased to account for nearly two thirds of total pay for CEOs in median firms, a figure that trumps 1984 estimates, where stock options accounted for only 1% of total pay (Denis et al., 2006). So the question we must ask is when we use stock option based incentives for executives, does the evidence warrant the need for greater controls or regulation? Denis et al. (2006) briefly explores the idea of the need for greater outside monitoring, and discusses how the dark side of stock incentive compensation may require robust corporate governance structures to counter veil the negative effects. Erickson et al. (2006) points out that regulators and policy makers are quick to link corporate fraud and stock options. They (Erickson et al. 2006) state that the intent of their research was in part to resolve the question as to whether there exists evidence that stock based compensation is tied to accounting fraud. Since no evidence is found, the policy implications for greater controls are limited. Burns et al. (2006) study has implications for the level of options and equity in CEO remuneration contracts. • 38. The Factors Of Homicide Suicide Factors of Homicide Suicide Anastasia Mendola Kean University Fall 2015 Research Methods Prof. Fernando Linhares Introduction This paper is being submitted for research methods at Kean University for the fall 2015 semester to discuss factors of homicide suicide. The variables I will be using in the discussion will be, male perpetrators, male victims, female perpetrators, female victims, marriage victims and marriage perpetrators. Murder suicide is defined as a homicide that is followed by the suicide of the perpetrator within one week, sometimes a max of two weeks in some cases. The definitions of the variables are as follow. A male perpetrator is a male that has committed the act of homicide on another human being, than in return take his life within a week of the killing. A female perpetrator is a female that has committed the acts of homicide on another human being, than in return takes her life within one week of the killing. A male victims is a male who is the victims of the homicide. A female victims is a female who is the victimof the crime. Marital status is the status in which both the perpetrator and the victim are in which each other. It can be classified as married, separate, divorced or single. Homicide Suicide rates are a growing number in the United States and the countries around. They were once something that rarely occurred but then they became the front news of every media and news outlet. Many different things can lead to the result ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hurricane Katrina (2005) alone caused $81 billion of damages and took more than 1,800 lives away. In developing countries, TC landfalls can be extremely detrimental. For example, Cyclone Nargis (2008) took more than 130,000 lives in Myanmer (Burma) . Association of these modes of variabilities to TC activity has contributed to substantial increase of understanding in long term variation of TC activities in different regions. It is also true that the modulations of seasonal to interannual variations of TC activities by these modes of variability complicate the separation of natural variabilities and climate change signal. • 40. Memory Vs Human Memory 1. The purpose of memory, whether it be in humans or machine, is to store information for a period of time. Both human memory and the memory used in artificial devices are capable of doing so but they differ in many ways; two differences being discussed will be on how memory is encoded, and how memory is stored. There are endless stimuli in the world meaning we humans are constantly feeling, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching; at any given point in time, our brain is working and processing this into our sensory memory. Information encoded in our sensory memory will only last a very short amount of time (A few seconds sometimes even shorter) before it is either forgotten or transferred to the next memory store, short term (Also known as working memory). The main factor in whether information is further retained to short term memory, is attention. The three main ways information can be encoded is through visual, auditory, and semantic coding. Visual coding enables information to be stored as pictures, auditory stored as sounds, and semantic stored as meaning. Memory encoding in machines can be stored as pictures and sounds but meaning is exclusive to humans. Computer memory does not depend on attention; whatever is captured/experienced by the machine will be encoded in the artificial device. Unlike human memory, the information will not be forgotten if there is not enough attention and will be stored; bringing us to our next difference. The memory used in artificial devices uses complex systems such as primary/secondary memory, RAM, caches, etc. However, machine memory can explained described as black or white ; they either know something or they don t, and when they do learn something they generally don t forget (Unless they re programmed to do so). This is where memory storage differs in the human system. As previously mentioned information is stored in the short term/working memory with attention heavily factoring it s retention. Now for information to stay in the active working memory, it must rehearsed over and over. Once mental activity stops it is either forgotten or goes further into the long term memory. The long term memory store is similar to memory storage system in computers in the sense ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Zara Global Chain Essay Introduction The global apparel chain had been categorized as a typical example of a buyer driven global chain. The Chain is operating independently and is responsible for its own strategy, product design, sourcing and manufacturing, distribution, image, personnel, and financial results. Zara was the largest and most internationalized chain of Inditex, which is its owner, and on account being a better established chain it expanded into neighbouring markets (Z8). Zara played the lead role in increasing the share of Inditex s sales accounted for by international operations and it continued to be the principal driver of the group s growth despite the expected slight drop in the share of the group s total sales (Z9). Zara will be analysed based on strategic capability, core competences and assets routines and values criteria, predominantly on resource based view. The resource based view can be described as the competitive advantage of an organization explained by the uniqueness of its capabilities (Johnson, Scholes, Whittington, 2005). In addition to this, by that the firms are recognized as internally heterogeneous and possess exclusive masses of resources (McGee, Thomas, Wilson, 2010). During the lifetime of a subduction zone, two plates are constantly moving towards each other, and due to the great amount of friction, these plates get stuck in various areas 2 (fig 1). Due to the build up of stress in these areas, the plates eventually unlock and release a great amount of energy, resulting in a megathrust earthquake2. 1.2 Tsunamis Since these earthquakes are caused by tectonic plate movement therefore displacing the ocean floor they are almost always accompanied by massive ocean waves, sometimes reaching heights of over 100 ft and reaching speeds of 500 mph, known as seismic sea waves or more commonly known as Tsunamis4. • 50. Why Men Are More Talented At Design Than Women There is no way to accurately measure the success rate of designers based on sex or sexual orientation, or, somewhat speciously, to examine if men are more talented at design than women. As Valerie Steele, the chief curator of the Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology, said: There is no gay gene for creativity. But circumstantial evidence is making some designers wonder about the disparities. Of the young American designers most embraced by retailers and celebrated in the fashion press in recent years, the roll call is almost exclusively male: Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez and Mr. Som as well as Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler. Their female contemporaries have had a harder time breaking through, among them Behnaz Sarafpour, Alice Roi and Ms. Subkoff. Gay men stick together like a band of brothers, Ms. Subkoff said in an interview. It s more common for a man to bring up a younger assistant who is male and be proud of that, she added, whereas a woman would be threatened to promote another woman. The Council of Fashion Designers of America, a trade group that vets those who apply for membership, is made up of 121 women and 156 men. Since 1986 its annual Perry Ellis awards for young talent have been given to 8 women and 29 men (20 of them openly gay).
