Type 1 Diabetes Research Paper
Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease in which there is a high level of glucose in the blood. It can
occur at any age. It is most often diagnosed in children, adolescents, or young adults. Insulin is a
hormone produced in the pancreas by special cells called beta cells. Insulin is needed to move
blood glucose into cells. Inside the cells, glucose is stored and later used for energy. With type 1
diabetes, beta cells produce little or no insulin. Without enough insulin, glucose builds up in the
bloodstream instead of going into the cells. This build up of glucose in the blood is called
hyperglycaemia. The body is unable to use the glucose for energy. This leads to the symptoms of
type 1 diabetes. This is a condition that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and
destroys healthy body tissue. With type 1 diabetes, an infection or another... Show more content on

Although currently it is only at a preclinical stage, xenotransplantation is needed to provide an
unlimited supply of tissues and organs for transplantation. In the United States, 13 patients die
each day waiting to receive a life saving transplant to replace a diseased organ The lack of donor
tissues such as pancreatic islets is also increasing, statistics show that approximately 140 million
people in the world have diabetes but only several thousand pancreatic glands become available
annually. This shortage could be aided by xenotransplantation, for example using pancreatic islets
from pigs. Xenotransplantation has the potential to completely eliminate the need for human
organ donors as organs could be mass produced in animals such as pigs and harvested on demand,
which would allow the stockpiling of viable organs for donation. The organs could also be
genetically altered to be, for example, more strong or

Iranian Women In Public Spaces
However, this was not the case, and those who followed the Koran and a neo conservative way of
thinking welcomed women into the workplace in larger percentages than would be expected. Amir
Ebrahimi, a scholar on women s physical role in the public in the Middle East supports this by
saying This frequent presence in the different public spaces gave women a new consciousness
about themselves and their individual and citizen rights in the society. These changes can also be
attributed to the want of women to continue life in the public sphere, and to show the government
that they would not become disenfranchised, but rather they would embed the idea of women being
an important pillar in Tehranian public life and culture. By looking at how Tehranian women
navigated the physical public spacein Tehran, one could see how they sought to establish themselves
in public life outside of politics:
Although since the revolution Iranian women have experienced much more governmental control
on their appearance... and behavior in public, they have been actively participating in public spaces
by re appropriating the existing places. In fact, the number of traditional women using public spaces
has dramatically increased after the revolution. Young Iranian women have specifically made use of
enclosed, privatized spaces... that are mostly modern in their design and the activities offered.

Having classified the site and selected the footing and wall types based on the topography and
house design, the footing system requirements can be obtained from the figures referred to in AS

Mirror Neurons In The Brain
Discuss and evaluate the research on mirror neurons and their role in the sensorimotor system and
other cognitive processes?
It has been suggested that within the neural network of the inferior parietal cortex and the
prefrontal cortex residing in the right hemisphere, there is a system that plays a special role in
interpersonal awareness (Decety Sommerville, 2003). In developmental psychology, it is proposed
that, because Theory of mind tasks activates neurons in the medial prefrontal cortex, that self and
other representations are closely interconnected, and that this can help us identify with others
(Decety Sommerville, 2003). In neurological terms, this is part of a biological system which
supports our social interactions from a self ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hickock argues that in one study, only 15% of neurons discharged upon execution and observation
of the same action; the sound of a peanut shell being cracked (Kholer et al., 2002). He states that
the rationale to this is based on the mirror neurons assisting, action understanding; their activity
would demonstrate that they understood the meaning of the observed action. Hicock, (2009) argues
against this as 85% of neurons did not fire. Rizzolatti (2001) himself, states the findings of MNS
did not rule out other possible neurons and brain areas for activation based on biological movement
. This leads Hicock to propose that the alternative explanation may be the Superior temporal sulcus
area as neurons in this area resemble the structure and design of MNS and do respond to some
actions. Hicock adds, however that there is insufficient evidence to conclude this. Hicock,(2009)
also argues that it cannot be assumed that the MNS in monkeys cannot be transferred directly to
Humans as it may not be designed in the same way. He then argues that there is no evidence of
action understanding in monkeys, and thus we cannot assume action understanding in humans. It is
noted that Hickoks belief that

Normally, if a system has a higher value than value, the system will be overloaded and the waiting
time can go to infinite levels. Though this case there is an exception, as is evident in Exhibit 8.
After the 18th hour the airport s arrivals are under operational capacity so the planes can be
delayed to these later hours, making the system still able to function. This roll over effect helps
relieve some of the over capacity at the 18th hour.
b. For hour 17 there is a 12.52 minute delay time.
The costs are $128.92 for the turbojet, $319.57 for the regional jet and $853.82 for the conventional
jet.
You cannot calculate the delay time/ delay cost for the 18th hour because the average arrival rate is
greater than the total expected runway capacity.
Under moderate weather conditions capacity drops down to 78 88 operations per hour.
Under severe weather conditions the capacity drops to 40 60 operations per hour.
In these weather conditions for both the 17th hour and 18th hour the arrival rate exceeds the
runway capacity, and we cannot calculate the waiting time. For severe weather, even if you get the
planes out at a later hour it would still take much longer than if there was moderate weather. Most
planes will land in hour 19 because it s not as busy.
4. Our overall recommendation to FAA for the city of Boston would not be to pick one option over
the other. The two different options: allowing Massport to build a new runway

п»їWould it be correct to say that in Tom Jones, Fielding...
Would it be correct to say that in Tom Jones, Fielding considers marriage to be a mere socio
economic arrangements under which women feel continuously suppressed? Discuss.
The true history of the English countryside has been centred throughout in the problems of property
in land, and in the consequent social and working relationships. By the eighteenth century, nearly
half of the cultivated land was owned by some five thousand families. As a central form of this
predominance, four hundred families, in a population of some seven or eight million people, owned
nearly a quarter of the cultivated land.
In a society stressing male dominance, it is surprising to find an author who writes his female
characters as more intelligent than and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through all these examples of marriage, Fielding is urging us to question the current institution of
marriage and what it is based on.
The plot of Tom Jones is based on the desire to link by marriage the two largest estates in
Somersetshire: the proposed marriage of Sophia Western to Blifil is conceived for this end; her
marriage to Tom Jones, when he is eventually revealed as Allworthy s true heir, achieves what had
formerly, for personal reasons, been rejected.
Throughout Tom Jones, Fielding criticizes the perversion of love by the upper class, homo social
system of property marriage.
The last part of the novel shows a convergence between hero and heroine, after their alienation in
the inn at Upton. But the property marriage plot is complicated by the sexual corruptions of
London, which threaten to capture both Tom and Sophia, though in different ways seduction for
Tom, force for Sophia.
Sophia is both threatened by her father (as before) and in need of his protection against the
aristocratic amorality of Lady Bellaston and Lord Fellamar. She gains in stature by becoming much
more than just a maiden in distress, but one who can manipulate too, in the interests of virtue.
Lord Fellamar wants sexual possession of Sophia, and also her ВЈ80,000; Lady Bellaston wants to

Comparing Operant Conditioning And Observational Learning
Classical conditioning, Operant conditioning and Observational learning
Classical conditioning, Operant conditioning, and Observational learning are how we learn. This
can be from the time we are born up until we die. We are always learning in some form or
another. These different types of learning have unconsciously been embedded into our minds.
Whether it be from observing how not to start a fire or learning that Mom brings us food, we learn
in many different ways. Classical conditioning happens when ... learning takes place when an
association is formed between a previously neutral stimulus and a naturally occurring stimulus.
(Cherry)This means that an image can be associated with something good. If a baby is shown a
picture of their mom, they are likely to think of the person who feeds them or takes care of what
they want. When a mother goes to her crying infant, the infant will recognize ... Show more content

Observational learning relies on what is seen and observed. If a child observes their older sister
hitting a different sibling, the child is likely to hit also. If a child hears their mom swearing,
they are likely to choose to pick up on that four letter word. Observation is one of the more key
ways that we learn anything. It would be difficult to learn anything without being able to
observe. After seeing my sister leave the burner on, I learned to not do so or else I could cause a
fire. Without the powers of observation, many things would never be learned. Classical
conditioning, Operant conditioning, and Observational learning are all examples of learning.
Animals and humans alike learn these different ways. From the time we are born to the day we
die we ll always be learning in one of these ways. The different ways of learning define us as
individuals. Depending on which type of learning a person focused on and learned, people are
created to be their own individual. These types of learning are immensely helpful and

An Inspector Calls
An Inspector Calls One of the main themes of JB Priestley s play An Inspector Calls is how man
treats his fellow man. An Inspector Calls was set in 1912 in an Edwardian society this was a
time of great divide between the classes. There was a lot of social unrest as the working class
people where uniting to protest for fair pay, reduced working hours, and better working conditions.
The play is set in The Birling Household during Shelia Birling and Gerald Crofts engagement party.
The party comes to an abrupt end when a unknown inspector arrives at their door with some news.
The news that the inspector has is that a girl names Eva Smith committed suicide by drinking

After finding out the money was stolen she stopped taking his money. Eric proposed they get
married and do the right thing but she refused as she knew he too immature to be a father. At the
end of the play he realises his wrong and changes his way: My god I m not likely to forget This
showing he feels bad for what he did. It also shows he has learnt his lesson. Eva after falling
pregnant with Eric s baby went to a charity that helped woman in need. She was very desperate at
this time and used Mrs Birling name and a false story about her husband leaving her. Not know
Mrs Birling was the head of the panel. After hearing Eva use her name Mrs Birling took an
instant disliking to her and used her power to turn her case down pushing her over the edge.
After finding out she was pregnant she told her to go and find the father it was his responsibility
not knowing it was Eric s baby. Priestley has created the inspector to force the characters to look
at their attitudes and lives; to hopefully awaken their social conscience and make them take
responsibility for their treatment of Eva Smith. I think he does this by not making him like a
character but like their conscience and by making his name Goole like Ghoul. I don t think he
succeeds as only 2 of the characters have changed their views and take repsonbitlity for their
actions where the rest have not changed they tried to sweep it under the carpet. Gerald and Mr and

Biological Features Of The Booty
The booty (plural: booties,) also known as the bandonkadonk, junk in the trunk or simply butt, is
two rounded portions of gluteal muscle located on the posterior pelvic region. Anatomically, the
structure enables weight to be taken off the feet while sitting; however, in many cultures the masses
of fat play a role in sexual attraction. Many find the swaying of the hips, which jiggles and
bounces the booty, to be exceptionally arousing when featured on a female. Recently, this
ideology has been sensationalized in the realm of popular culture and mass media. If you tune
into the radio, you ll hear lyrics about bubble butts. If you turn on the television, you ll see
touches twerking. And if you tap into your social media you ll read about famous fannies like
Kim Kardashian and Iggy Azalea s. However, both men and women have this biological feature
that functions in the exact way, so why are there such double standards, complexes, and
obsessions with the female butt? According to Vogue magazine, we are officially in the era of the
big booty (Garcia, 2014). Likewise, 2014 has been dubbed The Year Of The Booty (Ball, 2014).
Meaning, today, the measure of a womans sex appeal is directly linked to the prominence of her
behind. While music videos have long been critiqued for reproducing distorted ideologies of
women s sexuality, recent research suggests that female artists are more likely to sexually objectify
themselves in their own music videos than male artists

Digitally Tracking and Monitoring People
We are being digitally tracked and monitored today more than ever before. In Minneapolis, a
father walked into Target and demanded to see the manager. He had discovered that her daughter
had been receiving coupons for baby clothes and cribs, and accused the manager at Target of
encouraging his daughter to get pregnant. A few days later the manager called to apologize, but it
was the father who apologized, as he had found out that his daughter was actually pregnant. Target,
with the use of prediction models, formulas and collected data from the girl s past purchases,
knew that the girl was pregnant before her own father did. Technology today is so advanced that
everything we do is collected by computers and processed.
Today stores have infrared cameras to watch your eyes and what you look at in the store,
machines pour coffee when they sense you yawning, and laser based scanners that can tell what
you ate for breakfast are being developed. These sorts of technologies are developed by companies
mostly to make better business decisions and by governments for surveillance, and are being
implemented all everywhere, including the University of Maryland Campus. The university police
are using student s phones as tools of surveillance for emergencies explained Captain Marc
Limansky, former University Police spokesman.

I Stand Here Ironing, By Tillie Olsen And Girl By Jamaica...
The mother daughter relationship is often scrutinized, publicized, and capitalized on. Whether from
tell all biographies, to humorous sit coms, or private therapy sessions, this particular relationship
dynamic gives some of the most emotion activating memories. When female authors reflect and
write about their relationships with their mothers, they have a tendency to taint their reflections with
the opinions they have as an adult, reviewing the actions of their motherwhen they were young.
These opinions set the tone of the story independently and in conjunction with the relationship itself
and manifest in creative literary styles that weave an even more intricate story. Case in point, when
reviewing the two literary works I Stand Here... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is made obvious by the subjective reflections of the now grown daughters as they write about
their relationships with a distorted and one sided view. When individuals describe and evaluate an
important relationship, this accounting of the relationship imparts meanings to the events, actions,
and emotions of their past history, their present interactions, and their anticipated future together.
(Bojczyk, Lehan and McWey) This is how they identify their formative years and how they identify
themselves as daughters to their mothers. Sufficed to say, despite the differences in perspective and
experience, it is nearly impossible for the mother daughter relationship to be clinically reviewed,
they are heavily subjected to the author s opinions and reactions to their mother.
In both stories, the future expectation of a daughter s outcome affects the mother daughter
relationship as seen from both the mother and the daughter. Like the idea of self fulfilling
prophecy, if a mother treats her daughter as a frail being, an invalid, and keeps her daughter shut
in, the effect on a healthy daughter will be to identify themselves as a fragile being who needs to
be shut in since that s all they ve been told. Similarly, when a mother is exceptionally stern and
opinionated about their daughter s sexuality, based on the mother s constant berating and calling
the girl a whore, the girl may actually begin to identify herself

Evidence has been found, that proves they had an outside helper, who was included in their
ingenious plan. The day after the escape it was reported that an electrical cord, one hundred
twenty feet long was found missing. There was also a boat schedule for leaving Alcatraz and
some magazines telling how to tie and untie a boat from a dock and how a boat enters and exits
a slip. These were found on Frank Morris s desk. The theory is that they came up under the boat
dock, went under the water and tied the electrical cord to the scaling up by the rudder. Then fed
the cord all the way around the dock so when the prison launch was coming out of the slip they
would be able to position the raft, so it would be pulled out toward the mainland. Then they
somehow untied the electrical cord and paddled to a nearby getaway boat. Robert Checchi saw a

and reading the book has been nothing but interesting. The book was about to teenagers whose
worlds were completely different but were both the exact opposite of ideal. They were both

The Importance Of Life As A Seventh Grader
CUSACK AM
CONFERENCE ESSAY
Last year as a sixth grader, I wasn t as irresponsible as I thought I was looking back on it now. I got
most of my homework in on time, I had good grades and I was organised. I had good friends to
help me through the hard parts and I like to think that I helped others as well.
One of the actions that helped me later in seventh grade was when I had study hall last year. It
definitely helped me realize to set aside time for homework. Plus it showed me how to keep
homework and school work in separate, prioritized sections in my life. Last year, with the
electives that I had, I was able to make friends outside of sixth grade and when I went into seventh
grade, I had people who had the same teachers from the year before help me with things I either
couldn t understand or needed advice for. Also, in that part of things, I talked to teachers that I
didn t have earlier, but later in the school year and I got to know some of them. Which definitely
helped me as a seventh grader, by knowing somewhat what to expect if I had them as my teachers.
Life as a seventh grader seems pretty easy compared to an adult s everyday life, but in the
moment it can be pretty challenging. One of the few challenges that I have faced happened
when I went to Ireland for two weeks. I only missed seven total school days and I tried to bring
most of my school work with me, but it still wasn t easy when I had missed lessons and tests when

As I Lay Dying Essay
As I Lay Dying is an archetypal novel where the journey the characters embark on is a model for
others. Little Miss Sunshine, a movie rather than a novel, takes the basics of As I Lay Dying and
alters them to form a more modern version with a slightly different storyline. Little Miss Sunshine
successfully interprets the journey in As I Lay Dying because aspects of both the characters and
their trek emulate that of the novel As I Lay Dying.
The major events in the journey of the Hoovers in Little Miss Sunshine are analogous to that of
the Bundrens in As I Lay Dying. In both, the cause of the undertaking of the journey is because of
a promise. In one a promise to Addie Bundren that she will be buried in Jefferson, and in the other

become outsiders in their respective families, in part because they distance themselves, and also
because they are simply different than the others in their family. They are both smarter than the
people in their families, although the ways in which they are smarter differ. Darl is smarter in
that he is able to infer things that most do not notice. He somehow knows that Dewey Dell is
pregnant even though she has kept it a well protected secret, and he refers to the fact that Jewel
is not their father s son despite their mother never disclosing that fact to anyone. Frank on the
other hand, is an intellectual. He is more intelligent than his family simply because he knows
more and has learned more. While Darl is an excellent archetype for Frank s character, there is a
major difference between the two. Darl ends up being rejected from the family and is sent to a
cage in Jackson where his grimed hands [lie] light in the quiet interstices (Faulkner 254). Frank

Analysis on The Rush from Non-Judgment by Theordore...
In the article The Rush from Judgement, Theordore Dalrymple argues that refraining from making
judgements creates an unhealthy society. Judgements are usually evaluations of certain behaviors
or ideas. Dalrmple believes that those who refrain from making judgments practice self deception.
Self deceptionis the generally defined as the practice of deceiving oneself, which in turn hinders us
from attaining self knowledge. The number one problem associated with self deception is that it
has the capability of creating moral dilemmas, such that people use it as a prophylactic against
leaning from experience, according to Dalrymple. Because one knowingly deceives oneself into

In this one case alone we can track this incidence from the mother all the way to the role society
played. First, the patient had three children from three different fathers, all of whom did not
provide any support for her. The first father could have been written off as bad judgment, but to
attempt to write off three would be an injustice to her. It is evident due to some emotional
attachment to the idea of not wanting to be alone she was able to rationalize her decisions based
on that concept. Because of self deception she refused to even entertain the thought of whether
these man had any qualities that would make good fathers. Had she not refrained from making

Colonization Advantages And Disadvantages
However, the economic advantages to the colonist have been argued to come at the cost of the
economies of the colonies. Those that argue that colonisation was economically detrimental to the
colonies often point to the short term impact of deindustrialisation and the long term impacts of
inequality and the inability of colonies to pursue development policies, that the European powers
had on their colonies. Deindustrialisation of colonies was caused by the industrialisation of the
European powers which shifted the colonies comparative advantage from manufacturing to
agriculture. In addition to this, colonies had to export primary products to pay for capital imports
form their metropolitan state (Clark, 2007, p.315), further shifting their comparative advantage
towards agriculture as they increased their productivity in the primary sector to pay for more
imports of industrial goods. This sourceis an academic book and can be taken at face value to the
author s use of good academic practice. Due to deindustrialisation, the Indian economyshrunk from

colonisation was detrimental to the colonies as not only did it prevent growth through
industrialisation it leads to economic decline. Whilst this source is a newspaper article rather than a

Children Viewing Violence on Television Essay
Children Viewing Violence on Television
In virtually all American households, a television is present. Through this electronic device, the
public receives different messages. The main use of the television is for entertainment purposes.
The programs on television usually mirror and enhance the different aspects of American culture.
People ranging from infants to elderly adults watch television, the subject matter that is appropriate
for these different age groups varies. Yet, television is indiscriminate of age presenting any topic to
whoever chooses to view it. The television of today contains various aspects of society and
enhances it, creating an entertaining program. One of these aspects is violence. Young childrenlearn

In 73 percent of violent scenes, the perpetrators go unpunished possibly leading children to
assume violence is successful and acceptable. About half of the violent acts on television show no
harm to the victim and more than half show no pain. Handguns are involved in one out of every
four violent confrontations. Surprisingly, children s programs often present violence as funny and
rarely shows long term consequences for violent actions. These programs viewed by children do
not offer violence in an appropriate context ( TV Violence and Kids 234).
As noted on the National Coalition on Television Violences homepage one can see the effects of
television violence on children simply by observing kids at any playground. These children are
pretending to be Batman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Power Rangers. These are the heroes
of today s children. These heroes are not chosen due to character, but by physical strength. The
strongest and most violent are usually chosen by young people as the heroes to imitate. These
characters usually portray violence as an effective, common, and acceptable response.
The television is an instrument that teaches children about our culture. The programs reflect,
create, and depict our society (Levine 15). This could be used as a valuable tool to teach tolerance,
reinforce values, introduce different cultures and ideas, and overall educate children to become
citizens of

Native Americans And Native American Nations
Introduction
Native Americans have existed for thousands of years, developing a rich heritage that characterizes
the value of the group. Today it is estimated that there are more than 2.5 million Native Americans
living in the United States and this population is steadily growing. Although they account for only
1 percent of the total U.S. population, they have been described as including 50 percent of the
diversity that exists in this country. This diversity among Native American nations is illustrated by
250 languages and more than 500 tribes. One of these tribes is called the Cherokee Indians and this
research paper is going to deal with them. Cherokee were probably the most acculturated Indians in
the nineteenth century. They were one of the first Indian groups to successfully transform their
aboriginal landscape into a new cultural landscape that sometimes surpassed their white frontier
neighbors. They had a lots of powerful traditions focusing on the tribe first, the clan second, and
the family third in terms of importance and duty. The family was the centrality of the circle and
the individual was traditionally simply not allowed to upset the order of the family. Traditional
beliefs permit us to think that being Indians was obviously not about the blood that flew in their
veins, but how they lived in a cultural and traditional way in respecting the sacredness of the
American way of life.
However, two hundred years ago, the Cherokee Indians were removed from their

When a multinational company has difficulty raising equity capital, due to the lack of adequate
private risk capital in a foreign country, the company may explore the possibility of selling partial
ownership to the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The IFC is a subsidiary of the World
Bank that also provides debt capital and equity capital to qualified companies (Basic facts about
IFC, 2005, p1).
These alternative sources of financing may significantly differ with respect to cost, terms, and
conditions. Therefore, management must carefully locate and use the proper means to finance
international business operations.
Due to the fact that more firms are becoming multinational, it is expected that the GFS will gain
importance over the next decade. Expanding operations to foreign countries has become the goal
for many U.S. companies. In addition, the above mentioned financial institutions will play a big
role in the decision making if operations can expand abroad or not. Considering that the services
the GFS provides encompass a wide array of services, it is likely that the magnitude of this industry
will increase proportionately with the speed of globalization. Globalization will be the driving force
for the GFS. As our world becomes more interrelated, global financial institutions will become
helping guides to companies who want to become multinational.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Cheryl Merril s Singing Like Ymac
In Singing Like Yma Sumac (2005), Cheryl Merril utilizes various rhetorical techniques in order to
provide the reader with the idea that there is music in vocalization of both humans and elephants.
Merrill shows this by comparing the elephant to Yma Sumac, a famous singer with a wide range of
vocal abilities. The author compares humans with elephants in order to communicate that elephants
and humans aren t that different. Merrill addresses people who like animals by sharing a personal
anecdote in an appreciative way. Merrill breaks down this abstract idea to explain the idea of
communication in music, and then condenses it from a scientific standpoint. Providing the reader
with not only the physics of sound, but also the anatomical structure of an elephant which makes
such resonant sounds. Sounds that are unique to the elephant. In the story Merrill writes, Morula is
able to produce low frequency sounds just because she is big: the larger the resonating chamber
(think cello compared to violin), the lower the frequency of its sound. Merril provides relatable
comparisons that help the reader to understand the more complicated science aspects of sound

sometimes refers to any method of hastening a suffering person s death, including ending life
sustaining medical treatment, assisting in suicide, and taking direct action (such as giving a lethal
injection) to cause death. At other times, it refers only to taking direct action to cause another s
death. For example, a doctor who gives a patient with terminal cancer an overdose of muscle

A Comparison Of Detective Marvel And Detective Comics
It is without a doubt that DC and Marvel, these gigantic comic book companies, have been
extremely influential. Both creating characters, stories, and lores, that will surely stand the test of
time. Creating references and influencing our pop culture to great lenghts. However, it is quite
evident which of the two companies has had, not just the most successful run, but the most
influential run. Detective Comics, better known as DC, is superior due it s content, film
production, and overall impact on history. First of all, DC comics has some of the most recognized
icons and characters. Just to name a few, there is Batmanand his infamous The Batsignal . The
Batsignal first appeared in the February 1942, in the comic book Detective Comics #60. DC
comics also have the rights to Superman, one of its first comic book superheroes, a well known
icon. DC has a great collections of characters, and a plethora of superheroes. Some of such heroes
being, Superman, Batman, Zatman, the Flash, Captain Atom, Robin, Wonder Woman, and the list
continues. All of these Superheros have something in common, emphasises on the super, they all
are extremely godlike. They were all born super, either by inheritance in the case of Batman, or
powers at birth. They are born powerful, and are deeply motivated by justice. This philosophy is

these heroes. In spite of this gap between audience and hero,

Lopez (1995). Much like the law in Lopez, the statute in this case is not regulating an activity

Therefore, the law is too broad in its attempt to control behavior, which the government thinks

An Argument Against Involuntary Hospitalization
What is a mental illness? Mental illnesses are disturbed thoughts, feelings, and moods that affect
people s daily functioning. Being hospitalized for having a mental illness is categorized as

In order for an action to be right in act utilitarianism, one must maximize the pleasures and pain as
well as happiness of self and others. While in rule utilitarianism, an act is right if and only if it
conforms to a set of rules and everyone would maximize the overall utility.
In the case of a patient who is mentally ill, rule utilitarianism best describe why hospitalizing the
patient against his or her will should be allowed. Before admitting the patient, he or she must meet a
set of criteria that the state created. For California, some criteria include refusal of receiving
treatment when advised by the doctor, ideations of harming self or others and being mentally
incompetent (Involuntary). Through observations from personal clinical experiences, many
patients who were admitted fitted these criteria as some are harm risk, while others were mentally
incompetent.
In addition, everyone would maximize the overall utility as it allows mentally ill patients to get
the treatment they need to live as well as prevent harm to themselves and others as this creates
maximum utility for everyone. If calculated, there would be more pleasures of feeling better and
safe than pain of possible restrains or taking medications. For instance, for a suicidal patient, he or

happiness. As a novice in the field I do not yet have sufficient understanding of all the positions
available with the degree in I/O. A plethora of occupations could benefit from the understanding

myself observing the hierarchical pyramid of the HR department, trying to envision where I
would love to see myself in 10 years. Specifically, I am intrigued and keen on learning more from

Critical mass is the smallest mass required for chain reaction fission to take place. The implosion
type design requires a specialized, sophisticated arrangement of explosives to fire simultaneously
from all direction to the pit, or center of the weapon, in this case plutonium (CTBTO, n.d.).
However, these designs are not used by modern countries, who instead use thermonuclear weapons
of 1,000X the strength in tons. A typical fission weapon has a blast of about 20 kilotons (20,000
tons of TNT), whereas thermonuclear weapons can have a yield up to 50 megatons (Nuclear
Weapon Archive, 2007). The first thermonuclear weapons date back to the 1950s. The reason
thermonuclear weapons have such a larger yield is due to their 2 part design. The primary part is
based off of fission. Plutonium 239 is used in an implosion type fission weapon to start the fusion
reaction at the center of the plutonium (which is filled with hydrogen gas). The fission part of the
weapon then serves to start the fusion part of the bomb. By igniting the spark plug of either
plutonium or uranium, surrounding the lithium deuteride (a Lithium Hydride with a deuterium
hydrogen), the metal undergoes fission, creating enough heat for fusion to occur in the deuterium
(Nelson and Gronlund, 2009). There are numerous different types of thermonuclear weapons, such

As she sings, many pictures and videos of animals being rescued from their terrible conditions play

The Importance Of Visual Ethnography
The Importance of Visual Ethnography Reading an ethnographic research paper can allow us to
imagine and perceive cultures in a certain perspective that is the author s point of view.
Ethnography is a process of representing knowledge of human lives by collecting data to
experience, interpret and represent human cultures according to the researcher s view. However,
this representation of data is predetermined by the author and is therefore subjective in a way, as
people s emotions are analyzed according to the author s perspective. Moreover, there are certain
aspects of their living style that cannot be expressed in words such as their cultural ceremonies,
describing sounds and arousing certain feelings. There are ways to overcome this limitation of
expression that is to include the use of photography, audio recordings, filmography and performing
a play. This visual representation of data allows us to feel emotionally connected to the cultureas we
interpret it from our own perspective, but this depends on the way the data is recorded. Humans
consume the world visually, and photography is a visual representation of the world. Photographs
allow the informant to observe and analyze the photo in their own perception. Visual images are not
just the means of data collection or illustration of text but as a medium through which new
knowledge and critiques may be created (Chaplin qtd. in Pink, 13). Sometimes it is difficult to

Pecola s Ugliness In The Bluest Eye
In the Autumn section of The Bluest Eye, the reader constantly sees Pecola Breedlove thinking
with a low sense of self esteem and dignity specifically towards her appearance and the way
others view her. Taking her ugliness, she begins to compare herself to members of the world
around her, in turn beating herself up over it. During the chapter, she approaches Mr. Yacobwski
s candy store and buys three pieces of a candy called Mary Janes. For some background, the
wrapper of the candy has A picture of little Mary Jane, for whom the candy is named. Smiling
white face. Blonde hair in gentle disarray, blue eyes looking at her out of a world of clean
comfort (50). These physical descriptions are exactly how Pecola wants to look which has been
brought across through her constant prayers for blonde hair and blue eyes, therefore,... Show more

Pecola s peers in school, mainly the girls, would find ways of mocking the boys through her
ugliness by shouting phrases like, Bobby loves Pecola Breedlove! Bobby loves Pecola
Breedlove! (46) an embarrassment for both parties involved. When it comes to the different
bystanders, their reaction is full of laughter with no sense of comfort. Additionally, one would
think that the adults around Pecola would give her some justice but it was the opposite. They
tried never to glance at her, and called on her only when everyone was required to respond (46).
The actions of the teachers further show how Pecola is received in her community since
stereotypically teachers should be the most accepting members, but even they follow suit, avoiding
Pecola and who she is. Altogether, it was not just Pecola planting seeds internally telling herself
how ugly she is but it came from many other people, some of which are respectable figures around

Small Group Communication Analysis
This group project was very interesting. It was cool to examine the group teamwork that was
involved and to see the process that was involved. I ve worked with many different groups, but
have never really looked at the way we operate and communicate. From what I observed I was able
to see what was effective during our project, and the specific roles each person took control of.
When we started the small group talk amongst ourselves Lauren Hall started it all. She kind of took
the lead with the project, which was very good. In the small group conversation we had a
communication network that could be considered an All channel. An All channel occurs when each
member may communicate with any other member, allowing for the greatest member participation

Due to her being an emergent leader I believe the situational approach to leadership would show
the technique she followed. This is because she focused on accomplishing the task at hand and
ensured the satisfaction of the members (DeVito, 235). She demonstrated this by starting the
group conversation, and leading it to the delegation stage. Once we did this we all met in
person. Once in a group she was very vocal and helped everyone improve their parts of their
project making the presentation much better, and keeping everyone very satisfied. To me this is
what a great leader does. They empower their fellow teammates to do better. Leadership is
defined in two very different ways (DeVito, 233). The definition that she very much followed is
this, leadership is the process of empowering others; the leader is the person who helps others to
maximize their potential and to take control of their lives (DeVito, 233). This is exactly how she
acted throughout the project, which improved its final

Social Work Motivation
Our lives are books, every day is a fragment of a chapter. Each page illustrates a path taken, or a
battle faced. Every one of these books are unique, no two share the same story. My book may be
torn, damaged by time and pain, but mended by passion. My motivation to become a social
worker has been that tape and glue. It sealed every tear, and it gave every hardship a purpose. I
faced these misfortunes to learn what darkness is, to be shown my capacity to be the light in other
people s lives. My life has led me to social work, it has become my purpose.
Throughout the last few years, there have been several individuals who have guided me,
supporting me through hardships. These people are the only reason I have prospered to where I am

My current employment at the ARC has allowed me to work with individuals with
developmental disabilities. This job has given me experience in documentation and dealing
with crisis. During this past summer, I was able to do crisis intervention in a situation where
individuals were in danger. This work related problem taught me to expect the unexpected and
to always be prepared. I had been covering a coworker s shift and was alone with one other
employee. We had a client who had a violent outburst and had threatened the life of my coworker.
We sought out advice from our supervisor but she was on vacation and did not respond. In typical
situations, we would have notified the authorities, but there were no weapons and her behavioral
plan requests that we avoid her being hospitalized. Since the altercation was with my coworker, I
was left alone to de escalate the situation. I spent the next few hours with this client, I used her
hobbies to create activities that she would like. Once she found joy in her game of basketball, she

Are Libraries Worth The Money Of Taxpayers Research Paper
Are Libraries Really Worth the Money of Taxpayers? Libraries have long served the purpose of
providing books and Internet access to those in need. However, libraries have become almost
obsolete in society and do not really serve a purpose anymore. With the constant advancement of
technology in the world, people no longer need to check out a bookor use an old computer. Even
though libraries offer many services to the public for generally no charge; libraries can no longer
be justified as worth the hard earned money of taxpayers due to the emergence of new technology,
as well as the lack of funding available to maintain them. For starters, the age of technology has
made it really difficult for libraries to remain relevant in today s society.

Essay about Good Will Hunting
Good Will Hunting is a film which conveys many interlocking themes and messages to its
viewers. One of these nicely woven themes is placing trust in the people we care about as well as
people we have only recently become acquainted with. Another message, arguably more
significant than the last is finding and pursuing the potential one has and bringing meaning into
our lives in any form we choose. I believe the potential and success this film demonstrates is that
success, growth, and meaning in a person s life does not always have to come in the form of
advancing in a career or social status but rather in the form of overcoming hardships and
developing close reciprocating relationships. The character this film is primarily centered... Show

Sean has generally been lost and unhappy since his wife passed years ago. Professor Lambeau

he is being sentenced to time in prison after being involved in assault on the streets of Boston. A

Durkheim s Theories Of A Capitalist Society
Many sociological theorists who were relevant over a century ago are also still applicable to
today s society. Whilst parts of the theory and the context of the theories may have quite dated,
some parts do still reign true. Some theories however, like Marx s ideas of a capitalist society,
have become more influential in today s economic climate. Perspectives like Durkheim s theories
of suicide, Marx s theories on Capitalismand changes to economic status, Weber s input on
Capitalism and his influential work on Religion. The ideas this essay will be focusing upon are the
iconic theories, that the previously mentioned sociologists are known for and showing how these
theories have progressed through the time. Emile Durkheim is a prominent figure in Sociology, and
is often referred to as one of the founding fathers of the subject, alongside Marx and Weber. This
is due to his work on studying Suicide in his book Suicide: A Study in Sociology , this work was
monumental in the field of Sociology as Durkheim was the first sociologist to suggest that society
can affect what is probably the most private action a person can perform; ending their life.
In his study he found that certain social groups where more likely to commit suicide than others;
for example, Protestants were more likely to commit suicide than Catholics; as the Catholic
Religion integrated its members more strongly into a religious community (Haralambos and
Horlborn, 2000: 975). Durkheim based this upon the

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Black Holes
The sixty symbols website has quite the collection of intriguing astronomical theories and

Almaini, Ed Copeland, Tony Padilla, Meghan Gray and Mike Merrifield from the University of
Nottingham. The video began by a man revealing to his audience that he is often questioned
about his personal opinion on black holes, which he informs us that of course he sees them as
frightening and intimidating but goes on to refer to them as cuddly . Upon further explanation he
points out two small (but different sized), round, black balls of fabric (that seemed to be knitted)
that were gifts for his sister in law and they are meant to be representation of black holes with
their solid black exterior. This seems like a useless example, but after thinking about it more

Social Confinement in Austen’s Sense and Sensibility
When Charlotte Bronte said of Jane Austen s novels I should hardly like to live with their ladies
and gentlemen, in their elegant but confined houses she was referring to the physical confinement
of an interior versus an exterior setting. This confinement of the setting mirrors the social
confinement of a woman versus a man in the societal structure at the end of the 18th and beginning
of the 19th century. While Austen studies the societal position of women in most of her novels, her
early work Sense and Sensibility, is perhaps the most interesting to take into consideration when
reviewing the issue of confinement. In it Austen juxtaposes the freedom of the countryside
exteriors with the confinement of the city s interiors. These settings serve as a backdrop for the
exploration of two female characters whose social status has been set back as a result of the
primogeniture of the time.
Austen s novels have always been lauded for their social commentary and critique. The most
common issue they depict is the dependency of women in society upon men, specifically their
reliance on marriage as a source of income. The characters of Marianne and Elinor in Sense and
Sensibility are two such characters, who due to their estate and income being inherited by their
stepbrother, are left to their own devices of securing a favorable marriage. The two sisters, so
different in character, mirror the contrast of the depictions of interiors and nature in the novel. The

Adams Curse by William Butler Yeats Essay
Adam s Curse
William Butler Yeats William Yeats Adam s Curse is a poem that addresses a
profound truth of time. Any human accomplishment such as poetry, music, or physical beauty
requires much labor and is appreciated by few. He says this through an emotional recollection of
a conversation between himself, his lover and her friend. I believe the meaning of the work lays
waiting like a net, waiting to catch the reader at surface level. The poem is simplistic in nature,
which is quite atypical of Yeats poems, yet is considered easily one of the greatest poems he has
ever written by critics and scholars.
The title itself is an explanation of the poems meaning.

His love for poetry is one element of this poem which draws you in, and catches you in its warm
enveloping glove. In some poems, one has to dig and pry to understand the meaning. This is not a
poem of such nature. The interpretation begins when you sit back and enjoy the imagery. The poem
begins and ends with a tranquil image of a conversation as the sun sets one summer evening. Later
he paints a wonderful image with the moon rising, and sun setting, casting a blue green hue across
the quite reflecting sky.
In the first stanza, the speaker makes it clear that he cares deeply for
poetry. In my minds theater I see a seasoned married couple with a long time friend pondering an
always present life challenge. What is this life challenge? First the speaker points it out by
talking about poetry and its challenges and lack of appreciation. Then the friend of his lover
continues his point by speaking about physical beauty and the challenges thereof we must labour
to be beautiful . Yeats continues to build on his meaning of the poem with a reference from a
story in Genesis, the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Edom. It s certain there is no fine
thing since Adam s fall but needs much laboring . The point the speaker is making is true still
today, one hundred years after this poem was written.
It is obvious to the reader that the
speaker loves who he is addressing. The way he articulates the poem is an expression of not

Civil War Amputations
The Civil War was fought with much carnage, and was one of America s most uncivilized , wars
with a soldier s chance of survival about twenty five per cent. While many were killed by other
soldiers, usually through bullets, a large portion died as a result of disease such as: dysentery,
mumps, pneumonia, typhoid fever, measles, and tuberculosis, diseases that are curable today.
These diseases were spread through the horribly sanitized camps found on both sides of the war:
Confederate and Union. And while many died from disease, some died from other soldiers bullets;
these deaths may have been prevented if the technology, or overall techniques used by surgeons,
during this time period were more up to date, as amputations were the main procedure

Reflective Essay On Internship
Throughout the course of my internship at Primerica, I met a lot of people and learn great
things. When I just started, I was uncertain if the internship was right for me. The company
primary focus is life insurance, which I had little knowledge in. It also requires persistence and
effective communication in order to build and work in a team and find clients to do business
with. I was confident in my persistency, but not in communication. However, my team
reassured me that as long as I have the will to learn and be coachable, everything will be fine. I
believed in them and used it as a motivation to push myself out of my comfort zone to achieve
my goals. As I learned more about the company and what they do, I became more excited to be a
part of it and was eager to start going into the field to help others. While I was studying for my
life insurance license, I realized that it was not as hard as I thought it would be. I was able to
receive my license on my first try and started going on training appointments with my mentors. To
make sure that I set up appointments with the right people, my mentors helped me create a small
script and show me a way to identify qualified people. At first, it was a bit challenging for me
since I do not know much people that are qualified. However, I did not let that stop me and
continue to move forward. I was also given a script to help with the presentation during an
appointment, which I was grateful to have as the backbone. During the

Building Healthy Society
The peoples of the dominant human societies lost their sense of attachment to the living earth,
and societies became divided between the rulers and the ruled, exploiters and exploited. The
brutal competition for power created a relentless play or die, rule or be ruled dynamic of violence
and oppression and served to elevate the most ruthless to the highest positions of power. Since the
fateful turn, the major portion of the resources available to human societies has been diverted from
meeting the needs of life to supporting the military forces, prisons, palaces, temples, and patronage
for retainers and propagandists on which the system of domination in turn depends. Great
civilizations built by ambitious rulers fell to successive waves of... Show more content on

Over a lifetime, those who enjoy the requisite emotional support traverse a pathway from the
narcissistic, undifferentiated magical consciousness of the newborn to the fully mature, inclusive,
and multidimensional spiritual consciousness of the wise elder. The lower, more narcissistic, orders
of consciousness are perfectly normal for young children, but become sociopathic in adults and are
easily encouraged and manipulated by advertisers and demagogues. The higher orders of
consciousness are a necessary foundation of mature democracy. Perhaps Empire s greatest tragedy
is that its cultures and institutions systematically suppress our progress to the higher orders of
consciousness.
Given that Empire has prevailed for 5,000 years, a turn from Empire to Earth Community might
seem a hopeless fantasy if not for the evidence from values surveys that a global awakening to the
higher levels of human consciousness is already underway. This awakening is driven in part by a
communications revolution that defies elite censorship and is breaking down the geographical
barriers to intercultural exchange.
The consequences of the awakening are manifest in the civil rights, women s, environmental, peace,
and other social movements. These movements in turn gain energy from the growing leadership of
women, communities of color, and indigenous peoples, and from a shift in the

  • 2. Type 1 Diabetes Research Paper Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease in which there is a high level of glucose in the blood. It can occur at any age. It is most often diagnosed in children, adolescents, or young adults. Insulin is a hormone produced in the pancreas by special cells called beta cells. Insulin is needed to move blood glucose into cells. Inside the cells, glucose is stored and later used for energy. With type 1 diabetes, beta cells produce little or no insulin. Without enough insulin, glucose builds up in the bloodstream instead of going into the cells. This build up of glucose in the blood is called hyperglycaemia. The body is unable to use the glucose for energy. This leads to the symptoms of type 1 diabetes. This is a condition that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys healthy body tissue. With type 1 diabetes, an infection or another... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although currently it is only at a preclinical stage, xenotransplantation is needed to provide an unlimited supply of tissues and organs for transplantation. In the United States, 13 patients die each day waiting to receive a life saving transplant to replace a diseased organ The lack of donor tissues such as pancreatic islets is also increasing, statistics show that approximately 140 million people in the world have diabetes but only several thousand pancreatic glands become available annually. This shortage could be aided by xenotransplantation, for example using pancreatic islets from pigs. Xenotransplantation has the potential to completely eliminate the need for human organ donors as organs could be mass produced in animals such as pigs and harvested on demand, which would allow the stockpiling of viable organs for donation. The organs could also be genetically altered to be, for example, more strong or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Iranian Women In Public Spaces However, this was not the case, and those who followed the Koran and a neo conservative way of thinking welcomed women into the workplace in larger percentages than would be expected. Amir Ebrahimi, a scholar on women s physical role in the public in the Middle East supports this by saying This frequent presence in the different public spaces gave women a new consciousness about themselves and their individual and citizen rights in the society. These changes can also be attributed to the want of women to continue life in the public sphere, and to show the government that they would not become disenfranchised, but rather they would embed the idea of women being an important pillar in Tehranian public life and culture. By looking at how Tehranian women navigated the physical public spacein Tehran, one could see how they sought to establish themselves in public life outside of politics: Although since the revolution Iranian women have experienced much more governmental control on their appearance... and behavior in public, they have been actively participating in public spaces by re appropriating the existing places. In fact, the number of traditional women using public spaces has dramatically increased after the revolution. Young Iranian women have specifically made use of enclosed, privatized spaces... that are mostly modern in their design and the activities offered. Construction Structure Essay Having classified the site and selected the footing and wall types based on the topography and house design, the footing system requirements can be obtained from the figures referred to in AS 2870 Clause 3.1 and 3.2. According to Cement ConcreteAggregates Australia (2003) A stiffened raft consists of a concrete slab on ground stiffened by integral edge beams and a grid of internal beams. • 5. Mirror Neurons In The Brain Discuss and evaluate the research on mirror neurons and their role in the sensorimotor system and other cognitive processes? It has been suggested that within the neural network of the inferior parietal cortex and the prefrontal cortex residing in the right hemisphere, there is a system that plays a special role in interpersonal awareness (Decety Sommerville, 2003). In developmental psychology, it is proposed that, because Theory of mind tasks activates neurons in the medial prefrontal cortex, that self and other representations are closely interconnected, and that this can help us identify with others (Decety Sommerville, 2003). In neurological terms, this is part of a biological system which supports our social interactions from a self ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hickock argues that in one study, only 15% of neurons discharged upon execution and observation of the same action; the sound of a peanut shell being cracked (Kholer et al., 2002). He states that the rationale to this is based on the mirror neurons assisting, action understanding; their activity would demonstrate that they understood the meaning of the observed action. Hicock, (2009) argues against this as 85% of neurons did not fire. Rizzolatti (2001) himself, states the findings of MNS did not rule out other possible neurons and brain areas for activation based on biological movement . This leads Hicock to propose that the alternative explanation may be the Superior temporal sulcus area as neurons in this area resemble the structure and design of MNS and do respond to some actions. Hicock adds, however that there is insufficient evidence to conclude this. Hicock,(2009) also argues that it cannot be assumed that the MNS in monkeys cannot be transferred directly to Humans as it may not be designed in the same way. He then argues that there is no evidence of action understanding in monkeys, and thus we cannot assume action understanding in humans. It is noted that Hickoks belief that ... Though this case there is an exception, as is evident in Exhibit 8. After the 18th hour the airport s arrivals are under operational capacity so the planes can be delayed to these later hours, making the system still able to function. This roll over effect helps relieve some of the over capacity at the 18th hour. b. For hour 17 there is a 12.52 minute delay time. The costs are $128.92 for the turbojet, $319.57 for the regional jet and $853.82 for the conventional jet. You cannot calculate the delay time/ delay cost for the 18th hour because the average arrival rate is greater than the total expected runway capacity. Under moderate weather conditions capacity drops down to 78 88 operations per hour. Under severe weather conditions the capacity drops to 40 60 operations per hour. In these weather conditions for both the 17th hour and 18th hour the arrival rate exceeds the runway capacity, and we cannot calculate the waiting time. For severe weather, even if you get the planes out at a later hour it would still take much longer than if there was moderate weather. Most planes will land in hour 19 because it s not as busy. 4. Our overall recommendation to FAA for the city of Boston would not be to pick one option over the other. The two different options: allowing Massport to build a new runway ... Would it be correct to say that in Tom Jones, Fielding considers marriage to be a mere socio economic arrangements under which women feel continuously suppressed? Discuss. The true history of the English countryside has been centred throughout in the problems of property in land, and in the consequent social and working relationships. By the eighteenth century, nearly half of the cultivated land was owned by some five thousand families. As a central form of this predominance, four hundred families, in a population of some seven or eight million people, owned nearly a quarter of the cultivated land. In a society stressing male dominance, it is surprising to find an author who writes his female characters as more intelligent than and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through all these examples of marriage, Fielding is urging us to question the current institution of marriage and what it is based on. The plot of Tom Jones is based on the desire to link by marriage the two largest estates in Somersetshire: the proposed marriage of Sophia Western to Blifil is conceived for this end; her marriage to Tom Jones, when he is eventually revealed as Allworthy s true heir, achieves what had formerly, for personal reasons, been rejected. Throughout Tom Jones, Fielding criticizes the perversion of love by the upper class, homo social system of property marriage. The last part of the novel shows a convergence between hero and heroine, after their alienation in the inn at Upton. But the property marriage plot is complicated by the sexual corruptions of London, which threaten to capture both Tom and Sophia, though in different ways seduction for Tom, force for Sophia. Sophia is both threatened by her father (as before) and in need of his protection against the aristocratic amorality of Lady Bellaston and Lord Fellamar. She gains in stature by becoming much more than just a maiden in distress, but one who can manipulate too, in the interests of virtue. Comparing Operant Conditioning And Observational Learning Classical conditioning, Operant conditioning and Observational learning Classical conditioning, Operant conditioning, and Observational learning are how we learn. This can be from the time we are born up until we die. We are always learning in some form or another. These different types of learning have unconsciously been embedded into our minds. Whether it be from observing how not to start a fire or learning that Mom brings us food, we learn in many different ways. Classical conditioning happens when ... learning takes place when an association is formed between a previously neutral stimulus and a naturally occurring stimulus. (Cherry)This means that an image can be associated with something good. If a child observes their older sister hitting a different sibling, the child is likely to hit also. If a child hears their mom swearing, they are likely to choose to pick up on that four letter word. Observation is one of the more key ways that we learn anything. It would be difficult to learn anything without being able to observe. After seeing my sister leave the burner on, I learned to not do so or else I could cause a fire. Without the powers of observation, many things would never be learned. Classical conditioning, Operant conditioning, and Observational learning are all examples of learning. Animals and humans alike learn these different ways. From the time we are born to the day we die we ll always be learning in one of these ways. The different ways of learning define us as individuals. Depending on which type of learning a person focused on and learned, people are created to be their own individual. • 9. An Inspector Calls An Inspector Calls One of the main themes of JB Priestley s play An Inspector Calls is how man treats his fellow man. An Inspector Calls was set in 1912 in an Edwardian society this was a time of great divide between the classes. There was a lot of social unrest as the working class people where uniting to protest for fair pay, reduced working hours, and better working conditions. The play is set in The Birling Household during Shelia Birling and Gerald Crofts engagement party. The party comes to an abrupt end when a unknown inspector arrives at their door with some news. The news that the inspector has is that a girl names Eva Smith committed suicide by drinking strong disinfectant. Although Eva doesn t appear in the play, the... At the end of the play he realises his wrong and changes his way: My god I m not likely to forget This showing he feels bad for what he did. It also shows he has learnt his lesson. Eva after falling pregnant with Eric s baby went to a charity that helped woman in need. She was very desperate at this time and used Mrs Birling name and a false story about her husband leaving her. Not know Mrs Birling was the head of the panel. After hearing Eva use her name Mrs Birling took an instant disliking to her and used her power to turn her case down pushing her over the edge. After finding out she was pregnant she told her to go and find the father it was his responsibility not knowing it was Eric s baby. Priestley has created the inspector to force the characters to look at their attitudes and lives; to hopefully awaken their social conscience and make them take responsibility for their treatment of Eva Smith. I think he does this by not making him like a character but like their conscience and by making his name Goole like Ghoul. I don t think he succeeds as only 2 of the characters have changed their views and take repsonbitlity for their actions where the rest have not changed they tried to sweep it under the carpet. • 10. Biological Features Of The Booty The booty (plural: booties,) also known as the bandonkadonk, junk in the trunk or simply butt, is two rounded portions of gluteal muscle located on the posterior pelvic region. Anatomically, the structure enables weight to be taken off the feet while sitting; however, in many cultures the masses of fat play a role in sexual attraction. Many find the swaying of the hips, which jiggles and bounces the booty, to be exceptionally arousing when featured on a female. Recently, this ideology has been sensationalized in the realm of popular culture and mass media. If you tune into the radio, you ll hear lyrics about bubble butts. If you turn on the television, you ll see touches twerking. And if you tap into your social media you ll read about famous fannies like Kim Kardashian and Iggy Azalea s. However, both men and women have this biological feature that functions in the exact way, so why are there such double standards, complexes, and obsessions with the female butt? According to Vogue magazine, we are officially in the era of the big booty (Garcia, 2014). Likewise, 2014 has been dubbed The Year Of The Booty (Ball, 2014). Meaning, today, the measure of a womans sex appeal is directly linked to the prominence of her behind. While music videos have long been critiqued for reproducing distorted ideologies of women s sexuality, recent research suggests that female artists are more likely to sexually objectify themselves in their own music videos than male artists ... He had discovered that her daughter had been receiving coupons for baby clothes and cribs, and accused the manager at Target of encouraging his daughter to get pregnant. A few days later the manager called to apologize, but it was the father who apologized, as he had found out that his daughter was actually pregnant. Target, with the use of prediction models, formulas and collected data from the girl s past purchases, knew that the girl was pregnant before her own father did. Technology today is so advanced that everything we do is collected by computers and processed. Today stores have infrared cameras to watch your eyes and what you look at in the store, machines pour coffee when they sense you yawning, and laser based scanners that can tell what you ate for breakfast are being developed. These sorts of technologies are developed by companies mostly to make better business decisions and by governments for surveillance, and are being implemented all everywhere, including the University of Maryland Campus. Application Of A Job Description Introduction A Job Description is defined as A written statement explaining the purpose of a job, what activities are preformed, the conditions under which they are accomplished and the performance standards required. • 13. I Stand Here Ironing, By Tillie Olsen And Girl By Jamaica... The mother daughter relationship is often scrutinized, publicized, and capitalized on. Whether from tell all biographies, to humorous sit coms, or private therapy sessions, this particular relationship dynamic gives some of the most emotion activating memories. When female authors reflect and write about their relationships with their mothers, they have a tendency to taint their reflections with the opinions they have as an adult, reviewing the actions of their motherwhen they were young. These opinions set the tone of the story independently and in conjunction with the relationship itself and manifest in creative literary styles that weave an even more intricate story. Case in point, when reviewing the two literary works I Stand Here... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is made obvious by the subjective reflections of the now grown daughters as they write about their relationships with a distorted and one sided view. When individuals describe and evaluate an important relationship, this accounting of the relationship imparts meanings to the events, actions, and emotions of their past history, their present interactions, and their anticipated future together. (Bojczyk, Lehan and McWey) This is how they identify their formative years and how they identify themselves as daughters to their mothers. Sufficed to say, despite the differences in perspective and experience, it is nearly impossible for the mother daughter relationship to be clinically reviewed, they are heavily subjected to the author s opinions and reactions to their mother. In both stories, the future expectation of a daughter s outcome affects the mother daughter relationship as seen from both the mother and the daughter. Like the idea of self fulfilling prophecy, if a mother treats her daughter as a frail being, an invalid, and keeps her daughter shut in, the effect on a healthy daughter will be to identify themselves as a fragile being who needs to be shut in since that s all they ve been told. Similarly, when a mother is exceptionally stern and opinionated about their daughter s sexuality, based on the mother s constant berating and calling the girl a whore, the girl may actually begin to identify herself ... The theory is that they came up under the boat dock, went under the water and tied the electrical cord to the scaling up by the rudder. Then fed the cord all the way around the dock so when the prison launch was coming out of the slip they would be able to position the raft, so it would be pulled out toward the mainland. I got most of my homework in on time, I had good grades and I was organised. I had good friends to help me through the hard parts and I like to think that I helped others as well. One of the actions that helped me later in seventh grade was when I had study hall last year. It definitely helped me realize to set aside time for homework. Plus it showed me how to keep homework and school work in separate, prioritized sections in my life. Last year, with the electives that I had, I was able to make friends outside of sixth grade and when I went into seventh grade, I had people who had the same teachers from the year before help me with things I either couldn t understand or needed advice for. Also, in that part of things, I talked to teachers that I didn t have earlier, but later in the school year and I got to know some of them. Which definitely helped me as a seventh grader, by knowing somewhat what to expect if I had them as my teachers. Life as a seventh grader seems pretty easy compared to an adult s everyday life, but in the moment it can be pretty challenging. One of the few challenges that I have faced happened when I went to Ireland for two weeks. Little Miss Sunshine successfully interprets the journey in As I Lay Dying because aspects of both the characters and their trek emulate that of the novel As I Lay Dying. The major events in the journey of the Hoovers in Little Miss Sunshine are analogous to that of the Bundrens in As I Lay Dying. Those that argue that colonisation was economically detrimental to the colonies often point to the short term impact of deindustrialisation and the long term impacts of inequality and the inability of colonies to pursue development policies, that the European powers had on their colonies. Deindustrialisation of colonies was caused by the industrialisation of the European powers which shifted the colonies comparative advantage from manufacturing to agriculture. Each of these parties has different views and where they stand on healthcare, national defense/security, and economy. The ideology behind this war continues on to this day and has led to many treaties and other attempts to stop the production and potential use of nuclear weapons. Critical mass is the smallest mass required for chain reaction fission to take place. The implosion type design requires a specialized, sophisticated arrangement of explosives to fire simultaneously from all direction to the pit, or center of the weapon, in this case plutonium (CTBTO, n.d.). However, these designs are not used by modern countries, who instead use thermonuclear weapons of 1,000X the strength in tons. A typical fission weapon has a blast of about 20 kilotons (20,000 tons of TNT), whereas thermonuclear weapons can have a yield up to 50 megatons (Nuclear Weapon Archive, 2007). The first thermonuclear weapons date back to the 1950s. The reason thermonuclear weapons have such a larger yield is due to their 2 part design. The primary part is based off of fission. Plutonium 239 is used in an implosion type fission weapon to start the fusion reaction at the center of the plutonium (which is filled with hydrogen gas). The fission part of the weapon then serves to start the fusion part of the bomb. By igniting the spark plug of either plutonium or uranium, surrounding the lithium deuteride (a Lithium Hydride with a deuterium hydrogen), the metal undergoes fission, creating enough heat for fusion to occur in the deuterium (Nelson and Gronlund, 2009). The Humane Society of the United States, HSUS, has released many commercials to show the terrible conditions that some animals are subject to live in. These commercials also promote the need for people to adopt from shelters, and give these animals a second chance at a better life. This commercial in particular shows singer, and 3rd place contestant on The Voice , Christina Grimmie, playing the piano, and singing her version of Bonnie Tyler s Holding Out for a Hero . As she sings, many pictures and videos of animals being rescued from their terrible conditions play on a screen behind her. This commercial definitely pulls on the heart strings of animal lovers by using the rhetoricdevices of ethos, pathos, and logos in a very subtle, yet precise way. The first use of rhetoric that is seen is at the start of the commercial. The commercial opens by simply showing the symbol for the Humane Societyof the United States, which is the shape of the United States made up of animals. It then shows the animals being rescued by the teams of people that work for the HSUS. Every worker is wearing a shirt with the HSUS logo on it. Opening up with their symbol, and showing the pictures and videos of the recues with workers wearing HSUS attire establishes their good use of ethos. • 38. The Importance Of Visual Ethnography The Importance of Visual Ethnography Reading an ethnographic research paper can allow us to imagine and perceive cultures in a certain perspective that is the author s point of view. Ethnography is a process of representing knowledge of human lives by collecting data to experience, interpret and represent human cultures according to the researcher s view. However, this representation of data is predetermined by the author and is therefore subjective in a way, as people s emotions are analyzed according to the author s perspective. Moreover, there are certain aspects of their living style that cannot be expressed in words such as their cultural ceremonies, describing sounds and arousing certain feelings. There are ways to overcome this limitation of expression that is to include the use of photography, audio recordings, filmography and performing a play. This visual representation of data allows us to feel emotionally connected to the cultureas we interpret it from our own perspective, but this depends on the way the data is recorded. Humans consume the world visually, and photography is a visual representation of the world. Photographs allow the informant to observe and analyze the photo in their own perception. Visual images are not just the means of data collection or illustration of text but as a medium through which new knowledge and critiques may be created (Chaplin qtd. in Pink, 13). • 47. Social Confinement in Austen’s Sense and Sensibility When Charlotte Bronte said of Jane Austen s novels I should hardly like to live with their ladies and gentlemen, in their elegant but confined houses she was referring to the physical confinement of an interior versus an exterior setting. This confinement of the setting mirrors the social confinement of a woman versus a man in the societal structure at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century. While Austen studies the societal position of women in most of her novels, her early work Sense and Sensibility, is perhaps the most interesting to take into consideration when reviewing the issue of confinement. In it Austen juxtaposes the freedom of the countryside exteriors with the confinement of the city s interiors. These settings serve as a backdrop for the exploration of two female characters whose social status has been set back as a result of the primogeniture of the time. Austen s novels have always been lauded for their social commentary and critique. The most common issue they depict is the dependency of women in society upon men, specifically their reliance on marriage as a source of income. The characters of Marianne and Elinor in Sense and Sensibility are two such characters, who due to their estate and income being inherited by their stepbrother, are left to their own devices of securing a favorable marriage. William Butler Yeats William Yeats Adam s Curse is a poem that addresses a profound truth of time. He says this through an emotional recollection of a conversation between himself, his lover and her friend. I believe the meaning of the work lays waiting like a net, waiting to catch the reader at surface level.
