How Organizations Are Competing On Analytics Essay
Organizations are competing on analytics not just because they can business today is awash in
data and data crunchers but also because they should. At a time when firms in many industries
offer similar products and services, and use comparable technologies, businesses are among the
last remaining points of differentiation. And analytics competitors wring every last drop of value
from those processes. So, like other companies, they know what products their customers want,
the prices they are willing and ready to pay, and their spending patterns and other business
parameters. An analytics competitors do all of those things in a coordinated way, as part of the
corporate strategy championed by top leadership and pushed down to decision makers at every
level based on the fact that, employees are hired for their expertise with numbers or trained to
recognize their importance are armed with the best evidence and the best quantitative tools. As a
result, they make the best decisions: big and small, every day, over and over. I work with FITC

Argumentative Essay On Junk Science
In court, before testifying, the speaker is asked to put their hand on a bible and swear to tell the
truth and nothing but the truth. When a forensic specialist is testifying in court, they often say the
phrase To a reasonable degree of scientific certainty when presenting their analysis (Balko par.10).
This phrase sounds convincing and persuasive to both the judge and the jury, but does not have any
accepted meaning in the world of science and it does not give away the percent error of the
analysis. If these experts were to provide the percent error of their analysis in their testimony
without saying this common phrase then maybe the judge and the jury will have a better
understanding of the data that is being presented to them and may not even make a conviction
based off the information that of which was stated. The question that should be asked is how
reliable is forensic scienceand are any advances being made to prevent junk science from being used
in the courtroom?
The opposition may argue that Forensic science is a good way to present evidence to the judge
and the jury to convince them that the defendant is guilty. Although this may be the case in some
circumstances it is not in every case. Forensic science is perceived as a form of science that is
typically being applied to criminal investigations. Most forensic sciences, such as odontology
which is the scientific study of the structure and diseases of teeth, are viewed as junk science
because ...it does not

The Transmogrification of Venus to Mary in the Works of...
The works of Sandro Botticelli are among the most revered of renaissance painting. The
sweeping curves of his women and the ethereal beauty of their gazes are recognized
instantaneously: from a grandmother in a small town to the cognoscenti of New York or Paris,
few can claim to be unmoved by his work. Patronized by the Vatican as well as one of the most
rich and powerful Florentines of his time, Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de Medici, Botticelli was
hugely popular in his own day. His most magnificent work, the Primavera, as well as The Birth of
Venus, Camilla and the Centaur, and Mars and Venus contain entirely mythological figures whose
significances have been debated by various art historians for centuries. Born as Alessandro di...

If you were to unite with her in wedlock and claim her as yours, she would make all your years
sweet (Hartt and Wilkins 378). This passage could have countless connotations. The one that
seems to make the most sense is that Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de Medici, upon the news of his
upcoming marriage to Semiramide d Appiano, asked Botticelli to paint the Primavera using the
figures that he did because they held a strong meaning for him since he received the
aforementioned letter (Venturi 72). The way Venus is used in this picture along with the Three
Graces, Mercury, Cupid, The Zephyr and Flora has mounds upon mounds of meanings. It is
truly Neo Platonic. There are so many meanings, that if taken out of context, Venus could mean
anything from lust to ideal beauty, to being the Goddess of April and gardens, along with Flora
(Dempsey 260 261). If it is to be a gift to the bride or the married couple, it could suggest fertility
being ushered in through Flora by way of Zephyr s actions. It could also be that the picture is
showing the bride certain virtues she must possess through the Three Graces and a virginal, pure
looking, wedding veiled Venus (see figure 2). The fact that there are, blossoming off of the orange
trees, ripe sumptuous fruits is congruent with the fertility theme as well as the fact that oranges
are part of the Medici coat of arms (Hartt and Watkins 379). Or is could be all of these ideas

The Atlantic And Pacific Coasts Fish Stocks Overall Show...
ANSWER / RÉPONSE QUESTION 1
The Atlantic and Pacific Coasts fish stocks overall show little improvement, despite the
management strategies that have been implemented to try to increase fish population. This is
primarily due to overexploitation
North Coast and Hecate Strait
Herring and Salmon populations are low overall. The Prince Reupert Herirng stock is moderate in
abundance, while the Haida Gwaii stock has shown little improvement for the past ten years, The
Central Coast Herring stock numbers are at a record low in abundance. Sockeye Salmon
population has been consistently declining since the 1990 s due to the dangerous nature of their
route of migration of this species through to the Gulf of Alaska. Groundfish stock tends to vary
from year to year. The decline in dissolved oxygen in these areas has shown to affect distribution.
Groundfish stocks are improving overall, but those of shorter life spans (ie. flat fish) show much
greater improvement then those with longer life spans (ie. rockfish).
West Coast Vancouver Island Pacific hake, herring and Sockeye salmon, all remain in low
abundance in this area. The size of herring when they reach maturity is also declining. Sockeye
survivability is considered low in 2010. A single species the pacific sardine was once collapsed
coast wide, has now reached its original full range in this ecozone. Groundfish stocks on Vancouver
Island, like those found in the North Coast, tend to experience a decreased dissolve oxygen

Forgiveness In John Grisham s Bleachers
John Grisham s, Bleachers conveys the theme, forgiveness can help to heal wounds, as Coach
Rake s time starts counting down and the players must take the last chance they must have to
find forgiveness. Forgiveness although most of the time has to do with more than one person,
throughout the novel forgiveness is shown by one person forgiving themselves. No one who
was in the locker room during halftime of the 1987 game would ever forget what happened. It
was a wound to everyone. A coach punching a player, he could have been fired. But not one
person chose to share about it to anyone, until it was dug up 15 years later. Everyone there was
affected by it, especially Coach Eddie Rake and Neely Crenshaw. Neely was so amazingly
infuriated about it that, after he took his anger back out against him, he took it out on the field.
And as the Messina Spartans pulled a victory after being down by a whole lot and were thought to
have no chance, Rake was on the sidelines watching them score the final touchdown. He easily felt

John Brown And The Abolition Movement

prominent figures in the Abolition movement that made great strides to freedom. Most took the
route of political campaigning, but a few decided to take a more direct approach. One said
individual is John Brown. John Brownwas a white abolitionist born in Connecticut who simply
grew tired of the pacifist approach and took up arms with a few volunteers against slavery.
Brown was born the son of Owen Brown, a tanner, in the town of Torrington, Connecticut. The
Browns were conventional evangelicals, and John went to school in Massachusetts to become a
Congregationalist minister. Unfortunately he ran out of money and returned to his family and
opened his own tannery with his brother. He soon started a family and his tannery was growing
to a very successful business. A few years came to pass, and tragedy struck his family. One of his
sons died, Brown became very sick, he incurred a tremendous amount of debt, and his wife
passed shortly after the death of a newborn son. A year later he would marry 16 year old Mary
Ann, and have 13 children, creating a total of 20 children of which only 11 would survive into
adulthood. After moving his family to the town of Franklin Mills, Ohio, he opened a new tannery
but soon fell victim to the Panic of 1837, leaving him in more debt. He took up horse and sheep

Australia and New Zealand adopted the British gold standard, as did the British West Indies,
while Newfoundland was the only British Empire territory to introduce its own gold coin as a

Australia s rich gold deposits. The Gold Exchange Standard Towards the end of the 19th century
some of the remaining silver standard countries began to peg their silver coin units to the gold
standards of the United Kingdom or the USA. In 1898,British India pegged the silver rupee to
the pound sterling at a fixed rate of 1s 4d, while in 1906, the Straits Settlements adopted a gold
exchange standard against the pound sterling with the silver Straits dollar being fixed at 2s 4d.
Meanwhile at the turn of the century, the Philippines pegged the silver Peso/dollar to the US
dollar at 50 cents. A similar pegging at 50 cents occurred at around the same time with the silver

1908, this left only China and Hong Kong on the silver standard. The gold specie standard ended in

The Recognition Of Indian And Transgender Identity Essay
The Recognition of Indian and Transgender Identity There are various groups throughout the
United State and globally that continue to be treated as though they are not who they say they
are. Indian and transgender individuals, while very different, face similar identity issues. Both
groups have faced and continue to face issues regarding their identity and whether or not they
can be legally recognized for who they are. Indian tribes such as the Navajo have blood quantum
laws preventing anyone with less than a quarter Navajo blood from registering with their tribe.
This means that they are unable to be legally recognized as an Indian, despite having Indian
ancestors. In comparison, the transgender community is facing legal issues with a new bill in
North Carolina and Mississippi that requires them to use the bathroom of the gender they were
born into. In addition to this, it takes away legal protection for people who identify as LGBT,
allowing for legal discrimination. The percent of people who identify as transgender is 0.3% in
the United States as of 2011. (How Many People Are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender?).
The percent of Indians in the United States as of 2013 is two percent, or 5.2 million (Facts for
Features: American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month: November 2014). The
misrepresentation Indians and Transgender communities face within the United States is a
controversial issue, one that can be seen in the news, novels, and more. For centuries,

unlocking his true potential. Not only that but also when he was doing it he was by himself, with

Limiting one s self to menial tasks and labors hinders that, in the same way being a street
sweeper hindered Equality s ability to do that. It is a great sin, to be born with a head that is too
quick. (Rand 21) In the society where Equality lived the council of vocations did not give jobs
based on skill or merit, they gave them to random people trying to limit them as best as they can.
To limit people to only half their potential destroys them as people, and in addition their drive to
succeed, thus keeping individualism out of sight and mind. With limiting people s potential they
also prevent people from doing what they want.
A life spent doing things one doesn t find joy in is a life wasted. Equality tried to convince
himself that he liked street sweeping, so that he could repent of his transgressions of preference,
but he never succeeded he always knew he was not meant to do that, we loved the science of
things. He even said that he loved science, he didn t love street sweeping he hated it, at no time

357). Factors that add to employee dissatisfaction include: company policy and administration,
supervision, salary, interpersonal relations, and working conditions (Starling, 2011, p. 357).
According to this theory, simply eliminating job dissatisfiers is not enough, what truly motivates
employees more effectively are job satisfiers. In order to motivate employees, managers should
lessen the amount of dissatisfiers and increase the amount of satisfiers (Starling, 2011). Luckily in
this case, the privatization of health benefits falls under the dissatisfiers of company policy and
administration. Therefore, even though the employees are upset with the decision to privatize, the
human resources director can still motivate employees by lessening the other dissatisfiers and by
focusing more on increasing the satisfiers for employees such as giving them more recognition and
responsibility. Following the idea of satisfaction in the workplace, even though the city has the
ability to implement whichever policy it prefers regardless of the employees thoughts that does not
imply that the city should take this route. Employees are motivated when management includes
them in the decision making process. According to the human relations approach, workers are more
motivated and satisfied when there are positive relations between management and workers
(Starling, 2011). By simply imposing their will upon the employees

A Thousand Splendid Suns By Khaled Hosseini Essay
Humans have been on Earth for over 200,000 years. We have constantly been evolving and
adapting to our surroundings throughout time, and we still do to this day. When reflecting on the
subject, the question of why have we been successful? comes about. It can be argued that a
significant aspect of our success as a species is our incredible ability to adapt. Furthermore, our
adaptability itself is an evolving characteristic; as our race progresses, so does our ability to adapt.
Despite the many positive features from our adaptability, the speed in which we adapt can lead to
instability within society.
Nowadays, the desire to succeed and expand our species is fierce. There seems to be a worldwide
competition to be the best or at the top of society. This hunger for the elite spot pressures societies
to rapidly advance, which ultimately produces instability and division. When elements of society
such as politics or economics are erratic, a solid foundation cannot be formed. The book A
Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini is an example of how a society can crumble without
stability. A Thousand Splendid Suns tells of how Afghanistanis impacted as it passes through five
eras of different political powers. The traditional culture and beliefs were altered with each
governing group which generated issues within all aspects of society. In the book, women were
extremely affected. Through the characters Mariam and Laila, readers are able to get a sense of

Health promotion is an essential health care issue that should be implemented by all members of
the health care team (Hosseini, Torab, Taghdisi, Vardanjani, 2013). Nurses play a critical role in
health promotion for patients, family, and community because we provide direct patient care and
are able to see the whole picture of the client s situation. The population of people with chronic
illness is increasing and the healthcare needs of clients is trending in an upward fashion (Jadelhack,
2012). As members of the health care field, it is critical that nurses take a proactive approach in
preventing the increasing trend of chronic, complex illnesses by promoting health for our patients,
family, and the community. There are three levels... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nurses implement health promotion in community setting, hospitals, schools, clinics, and nursing
facility. The health promotion process in a nursing setting includes assessment, nursing diagnosis,
planning, implementation, and evaluation (Edelman, Kudzma, Mandle, 2014). The nursing
assessment includes data collection and analysis to identify the client s situation. Physical,
environmental, cultural, spiritual, emotional, and educational data are collected during the nursing
assessment. The next step is to develop nursing diagnosis(es) and prioritize the identified problems
(Edelman, Kudzma, Mandle, 2014). Once the problems are identified, the planning of care can take
place. The plan includes written goals, problems, expected outcomes from the patient/family
/community, and interventions that will be taken to achieve the goals and improve outcomes
(Edelman, Kudzma, Mandle, 2014). In planning for health promotion, the nurse needs to taylor the
plan to suit the learning needs, environment, and health needs of the client, family, or community
(Povlsen, 2011). Interventions by the nurse are meant to empower and education the person to
make changes in health behavior including screening, education, and crisis intervention. Ongoing
evaluation of the health promotion process is essential in improving methods and health outcomes.

in regards to religious beliefs. We know so little about the world, but yet humans have killed each

In addition to Marx s statement, Richard Dawkins The GodDelusion raises consciousness at the
price of controversy. On one hand, one may be enlightened by a different way of thinking than
what is the norm. On the other, people may be inclined to reject the book before they even pick it

If God/1 is equal to 1/God and a drop in the ocean is equal to the whole ocean, then it makes

Sputnik s Effect On The Space Race
The effect of Sputnik I on the Space Race
Sputnik 1 orbited the Earth every 98 minutes, flying over the United States seven times a
day.(Danielle Burton) During the Cold war the launch of Sputnik I by the Soviet Union in October
1957 created a fear in the United States. The United states feared that nuclear warheads could soon
come. In response the United States created and funded the National Defense Education
Act(NDEA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA). The United States

excellent, because the United states had a lot of fear after seeing what the Soviet Union was doing.

Horse Digestive System
Horses are part of a digestion group known as the hindgut fermenters. Another example of an
animal in this group is a rabbit. They are herbivores. Most of a horses diet contains; protein, fat,
carbohydrates, starch and fibre.
(Picture above: Horses skull. Equine dentist. No date)
When food such as grass or hay goes into the mouth the first stage is the teeth to grind down the
food. The molars (orange) at the back of the mouth are used for this. The incisors and canines
(blue) are used to clip food sources at the stem. While the horse is chewing the production of saliva
occurs. This aids the food going down the oesophagus but also helps start breaking down starch.

This is a drawback as poisonous foods and objects will stay in the body until its either digested or
comes out faeces.
Once in the stomach (in the part called saccus ceacus) the food starts to be broken down. Pepsin
(an enzyme) breaks down proteins and hydrochloric acid to break down solid food. Food can
spend up to 15 minutes to 24 hours in the stomach, depending on the size of meal. Surprisingly the
stomach of a horse only takes up 10% of the digestive system. Because of how small it is the horse
must eat little and often.
After the food has gone through the stomach, it moves onto the small intestine. Food moves through
it between 30 minutes to an hour. It is made up of three parts. The Duodenum, Jejunum and the
Ileum. The Duodenum is the start of the small intestine. This is where bile, salts (from the liver)
and pancreatic enzymes are to start to break down carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Due to horses
not having a gall bladder the bile goes straight into the small intestine. The bile is important at

In Africa the education is something that not everyone gets, so they are not aware about how
they get the disease, how they can prevent it or what are the affects. A reason for why in Africa
they do not receive the education is because there are a very few amount of teachers, and the
teachers that they have may also be contaminated and are not able to execute their job correctly.
HIV/AIDS affects everyone in their community because the disease spreads fast in their case (the
people in Africa). This is due to their sexual behavior.
Their culture does not have monogamy or a custom of only one sexual partner, but they have
many different sexual partners, and that is why HIV/AIDS spreads so quickly in Africa. They
also do not use protection because it is not available to most people and so chances are higher to
get HIV/AIDS. Another cultural aspect is that there is a lot of prejudice against testing. Many
people do not want to get tested for HIV/AIDS because one, they are scared the test might come
back positive, second if it does result positive how will they tell their family/friends and thirdly
how will they get the treatment they need to get. If the people get tested and do want to not tell

Created to support this document is a self assessment tool for each Emergency Model of Care.
The purpose of the tool is to allow Local Health Districts to assess if a MOC is appropriate for
their ED or if an implemented MOC is functioning to its utmost potential. The tool is intended to
be used at an ED level in a collaborative approach with all key stakeholders. The Self Assessment
tool rates the effectiveness of each model. Results of the self assessment are then linked to
responses based on the key principles described for each MOC. A robust evaluation of each
model can be used to generate an action plan for an ED to improve the functioning of current
Models of Care being used, or to consider the implementation of new models. Assess the current
Models of Care in their Emergency Departments using the given criteria It is recognised that not
all of the Models of Emergency Care are applicable for all NSW Emergency Departments.
Decisions to implement them will be made based on the staff, patient presentations and space
available in the ED to operate each model. Assess the potential to introduce models to their
hospitals that may improve patient care and flow, the patient experience and clinical outcomes в–

The Contributions Of The Solidarity Fund
The Solidarity Fund was organized to invest its member s retirement savings in local companies
with the goal of promoting economic development. The two primary missions are to make access to
professionally managed retirement accounts more available to all and to support job growth in
Quebec. They support local development through investment in local small and medium sized
companies or by investment in outside companies whose activities benefited the providence. They
seek investments that bring a fair return and also other nonfinancial criteria. As part of their due
diligence in looking at investment possibilities they prepared a social audit. The Fund prepared this
audit when they first invested in a company and later when they increased their investment or
divested. The Fund specialists in their visits to the companies covered important details, including
gathering data, observing working conditions, and meeting with company managers and employee
representatives. Around two decades after their launch, the Solidarity Fund had become a crucial
player in QuГ©bec s economy having built to 500,000 shareholders and net assets of more than
$4.6 billion (Canadian dollars). They had many success stories including Gildan Activewear, Inc.
The Solidarity Fund represents an example of social investment in that they screen the companies
they invest in for positive social compliance including good working conditions, positive relations
with local communities, and a commitment to

Protein Synthesis Lab
** The Low vs. High column shows how each protein band was influenced by the salt. If band was
present in both conditions, it was noted what condition had and increase or if they were equal.
Discussion
I studied the expression of V. parahaemolyticus expression of OM protein when grown in a high
and low salt condition. I hypothesized that V. parahaemolyticus would increase the expression of
OM proteins in a high salt condition and lower the expression of OM proteins in a low salt
condition. As shown in the results section, V. parahaemolyticus expressed more proteins when it
was grown in the high salt environment, thus my hypothesis was supported. I predicted that the
bacterium would build a wall of proteins around itself to help maintain it stay isotonic state. My
results showed that more proteins were expressed but I do not have results to prove that those
proteins were used to keep the cell osmotically happy. I was surprised that there weren t more ...

parahaemolyticus will express more protein when grown in a high salt environment vs. a low salt
environment. V. parahaemolyticus is likely to use more energy while in high salt environments
in order to express the extra proteins. My results are almost identical to other lab groups who
tested the expression of V. parahaemolyticus OM proteins in high and low salt. Bio152 Lab
section A03 unpublished results, table B and C, also showed the same protein band expressed
in my figure (figure 1, Protein band D). After looking at other group s results, I can conclude
that V. parahaemolyticus was likely to express more proteins when grown in a high condition of
either iron or calcium vs. a low condition of Iron or Calcium (Bio152 Lab section A03,
unpublished results). It is interesting to note however that an increase of Iron did not have as
great of protein expression as salt or calcium did. That could be due to Iron not having as adverse
effects on a cell as salt or calcium

Wisconsin Fast Plants Grow Experiment
In this experiment we are testing the effect of fertilizer on the speed of plant growth. We
prepared a 4 quad cell, 1 control group and 3 experimental groups. So, we had one with no
fertilizer, one with three seeds of fertilizer, one with six seeds of fertilizer, and lastly, one with
nine seeds of fertilizer. The plants that we grew were called Wisconsin Fast Plants, members of
the crucifer family. These plants are small and easy to grow, but for optimal growth they require
continuous fertilizer, water, fluorescent light, and temperature between 18 degrees Celsius and 26
degrees Celsius 24 hours a day. Fertilizers are substances that are put into soils to increase the
growth of the plant. There are two different types of fertilizers, synthetic... Show more content on

Beforehand, I believed that, if fertilizer speeds the growth of plants, then the 9 pellets of
fertilizer were going to make the biggest plant the fastest. I thought this because it would have
the most fertilizer and if fertilizer speeds up the growth of plants then 9 must speed it up the
most. However, I was not completely right with my initial prediction. My personal data came to
the conclusion that the 3 pellets made the plant grow the fastest but in the class data by the end
the average data showed that 9 pellets showed the most growth. This experiment was set up as
four different plant seeds in four different quadrants. Each of the four quadrants had a different
amount of fertilizer. We watered them and planted them in soil then every week we checked in on
our plants. We measured the size if the plants and then recorded it and put them back under the
fluorescent light. Then everyone recorded their data and we watched the class data on average,
then the last day we measured the mass of the plants and found the class data. So although my
prediction of 9 pellets of fertilizer creating the most growth was true in the class data, it was not
true in my individual

Eisenhower and Patton Comparison Essay
General Eisenhower and General Patton:
A Comparison
Zerrrouk (PN)
From a fiercely brave General, who strictly enforces customs, bravery, formalities, and success; to
a General with a lighthearted mood, down to earth attitude, a steadfast courage, and a integrity and
decency to lead the nations of the world into battle; while both these legendary Generals fought on
the same side, both General S. Patton and General D. Eisenhower were distinctly different
Generals. This paper seeks to outline the differences and similarities between the two Generals by
taking a close look at their lives, and the impacts they had on WWII.

For this action he was stripped of his command over the 2nd Armored Division in Africa. Patton
could not stand to have a soldier that was anything less than what he thought a true soldier should
represent. Patton believes that courage and fear are phenomena which can be governed by training
and discipline, and that fear is lost through intense training and patriotism. Patton did not hate his
men, but he didn t want to see his soldiers hospitalized as injured men with battle fatigue or
neurosis, but as a spectacle of American bravery. Visiting his troops in the hospital got him
emotional and he state once that, They re the best damned soldiers the world has ever seen. One
day I bawl the hell out of them and the next I weep over them.
Patton was relieved of active duty until he was summoned by Eisenhower to lead the 3rd American
army in the breakthrough Normandy. Eisenhower, more than anybody, knew the talents that Patton
had in war; and with the 3rd American Army, Patton cut through the German lines all the way to
Rennes, and then to Nantes, and then stopped at Metz for gas and munitions. Patton was always a
step ahead of everyone especially the Germans. After the push stopped, Patton was ordered to move
from Saar and attack General Von Rundstedt which was deemed impossible by others but not

When the number of German soldiers started to drop during the war, Nazi leaders began to enlist

Cause And Effect Of Gun Control
Gun Control and Its Effects. Many people around the United States are victims of shootings,
whether they be school shootings, mass shootings, or Terrorist Attacks. There seem to be two
common ideas either support or oppose gun control. In the United States, many gun control
supporters believe that guns are the reason mass shootings happen while gun control opponents
believe that people are the cause of mass shootings. But they both want the people in the United
Statesto be safe, whether that is from government tyranny, mass shootings, gun violence, or
mental health. Government tyranny is what most, if all opponents to gun control believe and
worry about. This is a common occurrence because that is what is commonly accepted as the
reason for the Second Amendment. Supporters of gun control believe that the United States is a
great country that would never fall to tyranny. But opponents often show the comparison with
the federalist and the anti federalist because we often feel the importance of the Bill of Rights.
The Bill of Rights guarantees the right to free speech and free worship along with the right to
bear arms. Opponents of gun control also cite how this country was founded on fighting a
tyrannical government, and the founding fathers did not want to become what they fought so
hard to get rid of ( Gun Control Laws... ). Mass shootings are a controversial subject because
many do not want to rush into gun control because they could because anxious from any recent
mass shootings. Supporters of gun control believe that taking away assault weapons would solve

Immigrants And Immigration
Australia is a country with a diverse culture, and immigrants are an important part of Australian
population. Because Australia is underpopulated due to a low birth rate, negative population growth
will have adverse long term effects on the economy as the population ages and the labor market
becomes less competitive. Because of these reasons the Australian government has a policy which
encourages immigration. Immigrants might affect Australiain different ways such as economic and
environment. Immigrants have significant influence for Australian economic in positive ways, for
example economic growth, populationgrowth and solve the aging problem. There is a simple
relationship between immigration and economic growth. More people joining the production cause
the economy keeps growing. The more population makes economic growth because more people
buy more products. The increase in migration helps GDP growth and keeping Australian economic
strong. And due to amount of the highly educated migrants ,Australian has significant change of
technology. For example in the IT industry, medical and architect. On the other hand Australia s
population is ageing quite rapidly. The number of Australians aging more than 60 will double after
2050, as reported by projection of the 2015 IGR. (Carvalho, 2015). In this situation government has
to increase the welfare budget. However, huge number of migrants could change the structure of
population ,because young labor force are the main

President Woodrow Wilson Was Not Pro War
World War I was probably history s worst catastrophe, and U.S. President Woodrow Wilson was
substantially responsible for the unintended consequences of the war. In 1916, President Wilson
narrowly won re election after campaigning on the slogan, He kept us out of war; unbeknownst to
the country, Wilson s slogan would not remain true. Although the U.S. played a significant military
role only during the last six months of the war, Wilson s great mistake of joining the war cost the
United States more causalities and money than ever necessary. However, President Woodrow Wilson
was not pro war from the start. When the war began in 1914, it was the logical decision for
Wilson to keep the United States neutral. A majority of Americans had either emigrated from
Europe or had family members that had done so. Therefore, most of these people were partial to
Britain and France s (the Allied Powers) cause. In this case, it was the wise decision for Wilson to
not take sides in the war, so as not to alienate a large number of Americans which would cause an
abundance of tension and division between the people of the U.S. Also, it was the best interest of
the United States to remain neutral so one they could continue trading with all of the European
market. However, as the war went on, Wilson sided with the British. The United States sent Britain
money and ammunition throughout WWI. Some historians believe this is a reason the U.S joined
the war

Cultural Competence And The Field Of Law And Within The...
Part I
To start a discussion a cultural competence in the field of law and within the courtroom, it s
important to establish the definition of culture in clarity. Culture is a dynamic value system of
learned elements, with assumptions, conventions, beliefs and rules permitting members of a group
to relate to each other and to the world, to communicate and to develop their creative potential.
(Obialo) Religion, food, language, customs, unspoken values and beliefs, clothing and other
outward expressions make up a group s culture. There are four key components within cultural
competence. Those four key components include awareness of your own cultural worldview; your
attitude toward differences in cultures; your knowledge of different practices and worldviews
culturally; and your communication skills cross culturally. For example, take a case of divorce and
child custody involving an Indian couple. The facts exemplified how a judge s lack of knowledge to
the culture and practices of the individuals could result in an inaccurate conclusion. In this case,
the husband testifies that his wife was hysterical and claimed that she worshiped blocks of blood
and practiced voodoo. His testimony casted common Hindu practices in an unfavorable light. This
was his scheme to make the courts believe his wife was emotionally volatile and was not fit to
parent their child. However, it would be a great mistake to depend on the husband s testimony as the

The geosphere is things such as rock, landforms, molten rock, volcanoes, minerals, soil, etc. The

Essay on Profiling and Airport Security
The world is living in a post 9/11 era. Since that September day, security measures have heightened
and extra precautions are in place to prevent something of that nature from happening again. The
terrorists involved in 9/11 appeared to be shockingly similar to a typical American Citizen.
However, their behaviors from that week prior were alarming. Examining the terrorists who have
become more prevalent in the last twenty years, there are several things in common with all of
them. Their profiles all have similar characteristics, not necessarily racial but largely behavioral. To
address this, the United States Government and the Transportation SecurityAdministration should
allow profiling in airport securitythroughout the country.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some experts view racial profiling as a disgrace to our civil liberties. Professor of law, Patricia J.
Williams claims that racial profiling violates our personal civil liberties and that it cannot prove
itself effective against terrorists. She argues that terrorists will do whatever it takes to ensure
they cannot be classified physically as terrorists by changing their appearance (172). As we saw
in the attacks on September 11, 2001, the terrorists modified their appearance to blend in with
the average American citizen. The New York City police commissioner, Raymond Kelly, noted
Look at the 9/11 hijackers. They came here. They shaved. They went to topless bars. They
wanted to blend in. They wanted to look like they were a part of the American dream...
(Harcourt 3) That demonstrates a clear examples of how racial profiling does not work
effectively by itself. While the suspect s race may play part in why they are detained, it should
not be the reason security officers do so. Behavioral profiling may be the solution to the problem
of protecting civil liberties and successfully securing airports. Behavioral profiling uses mostly
psychological and behavioral traits in detecting abnormal demeanors. Trained professionals
observe crowds of people and watch for certain tendencies with their body language. A person s
body language can set off many red

Ron, Hermione and Harry are loyal to each other and show the key importance of loyalty, when
Ron and Harry sacrifice themselves for Hermione.
Harry and Ron show loyalty to Hermione when Harry and Ron save Hermione from the troll in
the girl s bathroom. Hermione then shows loyalty to Ron and Harry when Professor Snape

making her run away to the girls bathroom and the troll found her. She still lied for Ron and
Harry to keep them out of trouble. Hermione is a good student and would never disobey the rules
but she lies for her new friends. Hermione was the last person to do anything against the rules. .
Ron and Harry break a rule by not following instructions to go back to their house Gryffindor
when they were told to so they put themselves in danger. They do this for Hermione because they

with each other with loyalty and trust because when you are loyal to your friends and always
there for them you gain their trust and loyalty in return. Ron and Harry broke a rule for Hermione

Burning Marshmallow
If 10.0g of solid baking soda is poured into 30 mL of citric acid, then a reaction will occur and an
increase in temperature will be observed. Whereas, if a piece of magnesium metal is added to 30
mL of Hydrochloric Acid, then a reaction will occur and an increase in temperature will be

above a burning marshmallow, then through the process of calorimetry the energycontent of the
marshmallow should be 5.0kJ/g (the value provided by the United States Department of

reactions that absorb heat are known as endothermic reactions (Van Hecke, 1999). An example of an
exothermic reaction would be condensation, in which water loses energy, and an example of an
endothermic reaction would be melting, in which water gains energy. These two types of reactions
are studied to better understand the properties and future potential of substances. For example,
recent studies prove that the addition of endothermic chemicals in fire retardant substances
effectively stops fires by rapidly cooling the temperature and preventing and re ignition (Tripathi,
2008). This is important because determining what reactions are endothermic or exothermic can
better improve techniques to prevent disasters such as a fire. If an unknown substance is
exothermic, in terms of fire combustibility, adding it to a fire would

Resting Potential Research Paper
The resting potential of a membrane is when it is negatively charged due to the movement of the
positive ions out of the cell. More of the potassium ions diffuse out of specialized gated channels
of the nerve cell than the number of sodium ions that diffuse into it. In addition to this movement
of ions, active transport of ions occurs due to the Na+/K+ pump which moves or pumps out the
respective Na+ and K+ ions at a ratio of 3:2. Because the axon loses a greater number of positive
ions than it gains, the inside of its membrane is negative in relation to the outside. The unequal
concentration of positive ions across the nerve cell membrane gives rise to the negative resting
potential. Polarization is the charge of the resting membrane which is polarized due to the
concentration gradient created by the higher number of potassiumions inside than the sodiumions
outside. At rest, the potential... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When an axon becomes stimulated a rapid change occurs in the electrical potential difference
across the nerve cell membrane, and registers at +40mV. The cell membrane becomes more
permeable to sodium than potassium. The gates of the sodium channel open and the gates of the
potassium channel close. Sodium ions rush into the nerve cell because of the electrochemical
gradient. The rapid influx of sodium ions causes a charge reversal known as depolarization.
Once the inside becomes positive the sodium influx is stopped and its gates close. As soon as the
inside of the cell becomes positive, the sodium potassium pump in the cell membrane starts up
again to pull potassium in and push sodium out. The process of restoring the original polarity of
the nerve membrane is called repolarization. Nerves can t be activated again until the
repolarization process is complete and usually lasts 1 to 10 ms, this timeframe is called the

Pro Life Vs Pro Choice Research Paper
There has been much controversy regarding the social, ethical, and medical predicament that
abortion provokes. Abortion is the procedure of ending a pregnancy with the early removal of a
fetus. There is no right or wrong when it comes to abortion; values contribute a great amount to
an individual s opinion. This process has led to numerous debates among individuals who
believe that it is up to a woman to decide what to do with her body and the individuals who hold
that women do not have the right to take away a life. Although it may seem as if the beliefs of
pro life and pro choice advocates are on opposite sides of a spectrum, the two sides can come to
an agreement about how to at least lessen the number of abortions occurring. Pro choice
advocates debate that women should have independence in regards to what they choose to do
with their own bodies. These advocates point to the Constitution to support their decision
because in 1973 the landmark decision of Roe v. Wade established that a woman s right to
abortion is protected by her constitutional right of privacy ( 30 Days: Pro Choice/ Pro Life ). This
pertains to freedom of choice. It seems as though a pro choice supporter would argue that since the

Since pro life supporters believe that life begins at fertilization, it is reasonable to relate getting

it took him to complete this book in 2007. Stark draws from, and acknowledges, colleagues as well

Stark explains that where women are already subordinate, wife beating is supported by the
patriarchy and is a function of specific factors. Under the law women were not equal citizens to
men, so women that were abused by their husbands or family members attributed it to bad luck.
Industrialization widened the work home divide. That is, work done in the home (women s
work) and wage labour (men s work) was separated by sex, and the latter was considered real
work. In tandem with political and legal gains, throughout the twentieth century the rate of
women participating in the work forced increased. As capitalism became the major form of
social organization, and women were liberated and emancipated from men and the private
sphere, violence was no longer sufficient to enforce dependence on individual men. Stark
explains that this was because the material and political basis for patriarchy was displaced, and
the illogical privilege based solely on sex was exposed. Sexual hierarchies began to collapse, and
men began using a range of behaviours to compliment their use of force. Although it was not
specifically written about before the 1970s, this became known as coercive control. Each household
governed by coercive control, each relationship, becomes patriarchy in miniature (p. 194). Stark

Trouble produces endurance, endurance brings God s approval, and his approval creates hope.
Romans 5:3 4 The Presbyterian Church chooses to emphasis care for the dying as opposed to
practising euthanasia. The church of Ireland believes that no one has the right to take away the
right to life, but they also point out that if to continue the treatment of a patient is futile or hopeless,
then it s not considered wrong to withhold that treatment. The Catholic Church condemns
euthanasia morally unacceptable . In Holland euthanasia isn t illegal, but is only acceptable under
certain guidelines; the request may come only from the patient and must be entirely free and
voluntary. The patient s request must

After he told his story about how he was rescued, he told the audience the reason why he needed
to be saved. Pelzer s mother started to target all her anger towards him by giving minor
punishments to correct his behavior. Then her attitude towards him changed drastically as she
started to drink more frequently and started to play games with him that left him nearly dead.
She slowly made David do all the work around the house and every time he wouldn t finish fast
enough, she would make him suffer by burning his hand over the stove, slapping him, stick soap
in his mouth, or stab him without regretting it. In the end, she would starve him and make sure
when he did get food it was only scraps of food even a street dog wouldn t eat. But David never lost
his hope that someone would come to his rescue or for his own benefit die. In The Child Called It

An Overview of Mutual Funds
Mutual Funds Mutual Funds have become increasingly popular in the last 20 years, with the
number of investors rising to 80 million people. This adds up to half the households in America

of stocks and/or bonds put together, to be invested in as one, and similarly to stocks, investors own
shares, which signify a partial ownership on the fund. Making Money off Mutual Funds Seeing as
funds are a collection of stocks and bonds, investors tend to receive dividends on the stocks and
interest on the bonds. Though it is not as direct as when investing in them, funds distribute these

Change Management Process In The Movie Miracle On Ice
In the movie Miracle on Ice , Coach Herb Brooks takes his team in the National Hockey League
through the Kotter s 8 Step Change Management Process to become successful in the Winter
Olympic Games of 1980. Many of Herbs actions and techniques seem to be unorthodox at first,
but people soon began to realize that the changes that were made did in fact make a difference.
These changes led to the USA victory against the Soviets and all together the 1980 Olympics.
This paper will discuss how Brooks takes the organization through these 8 changes. The first step
in the change process is to create a sense of urgency. Coach Herb originally starts this step out in
his interview for the head coaching position of the USA team. He brings to the table that he
wants to change the entire process that the teams usually go through. These changes include not
relying on players that just have talent, using a team chemistry to drive teamwork, longer/harder
workouts, use different playing strategies and using less experienced players. These created a
sense of urgency to the board he was presenting to because using less experienced players while
initiating changes that had never been done before would possibly take longer and need more
work than their usual process. Secondly, forming a powerful coalition would be the next step in the
change process for Coach Herb to follow, which would include getting people to support the
changes he is going to make. In the beginning, Herb did not have much

The receiving overhead rate is
Total receiving overheads
Total number of receipts ВЈ900,000
820
ВЈ1,097.56 per receipt
Using this rate as a constant allows us to evaluate the product overhead apportionments: overheads
per receipt x receipts per product group
For product A:
ВЈ1,097.56 per receipt x 50 receipts
ВЈ54,878
Product A B C
Receiving overheads apportionment ВЈ54,787.0 ВЈ76,829.3 ВЈ768,292.7
We then divide these product apportionments by the number of units made for each product, to
derive the cost per unit for receiving goods. The calculations here give the following results:
Product A B C
Receiving cost per unit ВЈ0.60976 ВЈ2.5610 ВЈ51.2195
Notice, when compared with Drury s method of using the overhead rate as a percentage of direct
materials cost, the version presented here gives a radically different result. Had we applied Drury s
method, the product receiving cost per unit would have been:
Overhead absorption rate:
ВЈ900,000 x 100 = 21.82%
= ВЈ4,125,000
Applying this rate to each product s material costs gives:
Product
A B C
ВЈ6.55 8.73 3.27
The method we have used applies the full spirit of ABC by identifying and using fully the ABC
approach. The other overhead rate, the Machine Hour Rate, is ВЈ3.79. This is calculated by
dividing the total other overheads by the number of machine hours applied, or worked. In

China s Growth As A Foreign Power
China s growth as a foreign power is shifting the dynamics of global relations. It can be theorized
that China as a growing influence poses a danger to middle powers economically, diplomatically
and militarily. The reasoning behind this research branches from the growing prominence of
middle powers as players in global politics. Particularly, focusing on the motivations of middle
powerstates and their reactions, changes in foreign or domestic policy, to China growing as an
economically, politically, and militarily strong nation. This report will discuss the ways in which
the collection of nations called the middle powers are reacting to China s rising economic,
diplomatic, and military power. It will also examine the shifting position... Show more content on

These two theories will be applied in an attempt to assess whether Australia and Canada in
particular alter their policies as a defensive response to China s growing influence or if it is rather
a result of a mix of history, ideas, norms, and beliefs that affect a their roles in international relations
. It will be argued that with the growth of China as a foreign power, middle powers begin to feel
threatened and thus alter their policies to reflect a more secure approach to international relations
and thus reflects a defensive realist perspective.
Middle power nations essentially possess capabilities slightly inferior to that of great powers, such
as the United States, nonetheless they continue to hold influence within global politics. As these
middle power states do not posses the strength or influence of great powers, but do possess more
influence than that of developing nations, they rest in a fascinating position in the field of
international relations. The typical behaviour that has come to be expected of middle powers is
that their role in the political sphere involves the mediation of conflicts, most often between great
powers and the initial building of connections between the developed and developing worlds .
Their situation politically and economically can very much depend on their alliances and most of
the middle power

Petrarch s Influence On Christianity
Two humanist ideas that defined the age of the Renaissance were the idea that man could achieve
and leaning away from the Christian world view. The enforcement of the idea that man could
achieve led people to valuing their strengths more than they did before. Leaning away from the
Christian world view let people experience a different type of lifestyle. Upholding the humanistic
concept of man could achieve enabled the citizens of Europeto hold their abilities to higher
standards, leading to achievement. In The Ascent of Mount Ventoux, Petrarch wrote about his
ascent of the highest mountain in his region. By pushing himself both physically and mentally to
reach the peak, Petrarch proved what he could truly achieve, only to see the view.... Show more

In The Ascent of Mount Ventoux , Petrarch mentioned that the main reason behind his ascent was
only to see the view from the highest peak. This exhibited the leaning away from Christian
reasoning by showing that Petrarch did not do everything to deepen his Christian faith, but for
his own self exploration. In Primavera , Botticelli displayed figures from Roman mythology, such
as Venus and the Three Graces. This showed that incorporating not only Christian figures into art,
but ones from the Greco Roman culture actually helped people advance in society, like Botticelli
did. In The Prince , Machiavelli said that the proper prince s actions should not be restricted by
moral considerations. Machiavelli proved that by doing what is necessary, a prince could be more
successful than if he were to follow the Christian morals that were deemed so high during the
Middle Ages. The idea that Europeans could wean themselves from following every Christian moral
consideration helped the advancement of society because now people were able to branch out into
doing things that previously would have seemed

Your Brain Remembers Languages You Think You Forgot
Your Brain Remembers Languages You Think You Forgot Psychology continues making break
through revelations that explain and enlighten many cognitive pathways that are black boxes.
Everyone is fluent in at least one language, but as it continues to become popular, people are
learning languages left and right. Although toddlers do not start speaking before their first year,
they begin learningabstract languageas early as the third trimester of pregnancy and are able to
differentiate languages. People with continuous exposure to a language outperform peers who have
never been exposed to it. But what about those who are removed from their environment and are
never exposed to the language again.
A recent study by Jiyoun Choi questioned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every experiment has limitations, in this study language can deter the results. The study does not
mention if any of the participants know any languages that may have similarities with Korean. If
so, could these known languages play an influence in learning Korean? For example, the romance
languages which include Spanish and French have many similar sounds and words that can be
comprehended by someone with only knowledge of one of these languages. The data can create a
flaw in this experiment as well. The contributors state that removing one adoptee that was an outlier
changed the correlation value from 0.36 to 0.062 (Choi, 2016). Could, then, removing all outliers or
measuring the medium rather than the mean provide drastically different results when comparing
the adoptees to the Dutch natives?
Media articles translate scientific papers into a simpler, shorter version that is easier for the
population to understand. A science magazine, Scientific American, published the article Your
Brain Remembers Languages You Think You Forgot to distribute the findings of Choi s research.
Jane C. Hu, the author, makes the article more wholesome by including the opinion of other

When the parent returns, he or she should focus on the positive aspects of the child s day to
reassure the child that everything was okay and remain consistent with the new routine. Since
young children are directly affected by their parents level of comfort, it is important for [the

Some symptoms and warning signs that may indicate that the child is experiencing more than
just separation anxiety are A child who continued to be inconsolable in a new child care or other

reluctance and/or fear of sleeping alone, nightmares, refusal to go places without the parent,
refusal to eat, refusal to interact with individuals other than the parents or primary caregivers,
excessive distress when separated from the primary caregiver, worry about losing or harm coming
to the primary caregiver, repeated physical complaintsВ… (McPherson, 2004). If a child exhibits
any of these behaviors or a combination of the following behaviors, the parents or caregivers of the

discover whether or not a deeper problem exists.

NFL Playoff Case Study
Fun Fact the NFL was founded on August 20th 1920 in ohio. First Super Bowl was January 15th
1962 against the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs. NFL stand for National
Football League they have 32 teams in the league. My issue is that NFL Playoff should be the
same. My claim is i disagree they should not change the NFL Playoffs. The NFL Playoff should
stay the same format and not change it. The NFL has two conferences and eight divisions for a
reason. Those divisions are important because they not only foster healthy (or perhaps in some
cases unhealthy) rivalries, but they also create a balanced scheduling format that is as equitable as
any in pro sports. Each team in the division plays the exact same schedule with the exception...

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell recently floated the idea of an expanded playoff format
adding two teams to make it 14 for the postseason but it appears the current format will remain in

And the never ending chatter about expanding the playoff field inevitably leads to people
complaining about too many mediocre teams making the postseason as it is. The NFL playoffs
are just about perfect. There s usually a thrilling chase for the six playoff spots in the final
weeks of the season. Though some teams back into the postseason, the last squads in usually
earn their spots in Week 17. Once the field is set, a five week, 11 game playoffs gets underway,
culminating in the biggest sporting event of the year. Why mess with a good thing?he NFL
playoffs need to be reseeded not just after each round, but before the start of the postseason
tournament altogether. If the playoffs are a true test to find the best team in football, then the
league s owners owe it to their fans and everyone involved with the league to structure the

Violance in Video Games Essay

The Effects Of Google And Its Impact On The Global Community
Trudging through an endless landscape of impossibly thick mud and making as little progress as a
boulder could once be compared to the painstaking task called research. However, as technology
has advanced, humanity has innovated endless global networks of connections to bring the world
to the fingertips of society. One of these is the infinite tool known as Google. While some of today
s society is somewhat skeptical of the overwhelming expansion of the Internet, companies such as
Google have not only provided efficiency, but have guaranteed a future of advancement and vast
knowledge throughout the global community. As minds of mankind have fashioned pioneering
technology throughout history, they have always been met with some criticism; however,
countless numbers of them have succeeded in the face of doubt. Nicholas Carr wrote an article
about the effects of Google, and relates to these historical events. [After] The arrival of Gutenberg
s printing press...Italian Humanist Hieronimo Squarciafico worried that the easy availability of
books would lead to intellectual laziness, making men less studious and weakening their minds .
Although those around Gutenberg were skeptical of the effects his innovation may cause on
society, books actually brought forth a new age of intelligence and more access to learning. The
use of the Internet spreads like a common cold, and many fear its massive existence. However,
Carr realizes that Google may turn out to be beneficial to us all.

The Evolution Of Health Care
What is quality in health care? We can divide it into three elements:
1. Care by practitioners and other providers which means receive correct diagnosis and an
appropriate strategy of care from practitioners; and convenience, comfort, quite, privacy, food etc.
from care providers.
2. Care Implemented by patient that means patient should take care not only for him or herself but
also for his or her family. It is patient s responsibility if he or she succeed or fail of getting health
care.
3. Care received by community as the whole. People should judge the social distribution of
levels of quality in the community. It depends on who has an access more or less to care and
after having access, receiving it in good or low quality. The evolution of health care in the
United States started over 300 years ago. It is divided into six main important eras: the
charitable, the educational era, the insurance era, the government era, the managed care era and
the consumerism era. The charitable includes period from about 1700 to about 1830. In the
beginning of this period, health care was provided voluntarily in public houses mostly for needy
citizens. Those who had money could afford seen or treated at homes. The firs hospital was built
in Philadelphia in 1752, after about 40 years hospital in New York opened their doors for people
who need a treat. At the same time in New York state passed licensure act that person who wants to

How Organizations Are Competing On Analytics Essay Organizations are competing on analytics not just because they can business today is awash in data and data crunchers but also because they should. At a time when firms in many industries offer similar products and services, and use comparable technologies, businesses are among the last remaining points of differentiation. • 3. Argumentative Essay On Junk Science In court, before testifying, the speaker is asked to put their hand on a bible and swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. When a forensic specialist is testifying in court, they often say the phrase To a reasonable degree of scientific certainty when presenting their analysis (Balko par.10). This phrase sounds convincing and persuasive to both the judge and the jury, but does not have any accepted meaning in the world of science and it does not give away the percent error of the analysis. If these experts were to provide the percent error of their analysis in their testimony without saying this common phrase then maybe the judge and the jury will have a better understanding of the data that is being presented to them and may not even make a conviction based off the information that of which was stated. The question that should be asked is how reliable is forensic scienceand are any advances being made to prevent junk science from being used in the courtroom? The opposition may argue that Forensic science is a good way to present evidence to the judge and the jury to convince them that the defendant is guilty. Although this may be the case in some circumstances it is not in every case. Forensic science is perceived as a form of science that is typically being applied to criminal investigations. Most forensic sciences, such as odontology which is the scientific study of the structure and diseases of teeth, are viewed as junk science because ...it does not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Transmogrification of Venus to Mary in the Works of... The works of Sandro Botticelli are among the most revered of renaissance painting. The sweeping curves of his women and the ethereal beauty of their gazes are recognized instantaneously: from a grandmother in a small town to the cognoscenti of New York or Paris, few can claim to be unmoved by his work. Patronized by the Vatican as well as one of the most rich and powerful Florentines of his time, Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de Medici, Botticelli was hugely popular in his own day. His most magnificent work, the Primavera, as well as The Birth of Venus, Camilla and the Centaur, and Mars and Venus contain entirely mythological figures whose significances have been debated by various art historians for centuries. Born as Alessandro di... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you were to unite with her in wedlock and claim her as yours, she would make all your years sweet (Hartt and Wilkins 378). This passage could have countless connotations. The one that seems to make the most sense is that Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de Medici, upon the news of his upcoming marriage to Semiramide d Appiano, asked Botticelli to paint the Primavera using the figures that he did because they held a strong meaning for him since he received the aforementioned letter (Venturi 72). The way Venus is used in this picture along with the Three Graces, Mercury, Cupid, The Zephyr and Flora has mounds upon mounds of meanings. It is truly Neo Platonic. There are so many meanings, that if taken out of context, Venus could mean anything from lust to ideal beauty, to being the Goddess of April and gardens, along with Flora (Dempsey 260 261). If it is to be a gift to the bride or the married couple, it could suggest fertility being ushered in through Flora by way of Zephyr s actions. It could also be that the picture is showing the bride certain virtues she must possess through the Three Graces and a virginal, pure looking, wedding veiled Venus (see figure 2). The fact that there are, blossoming off of the orange trees, ripe sumptuous fruits is congruent with the fertility theme as well as the fact that oranges are part of the Medici coat of arms (Hartt and Watkins 379). Or is could be all of these ideas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

ANSWER / RГ‰PONSE QUESTION 1 The Atlantic and Pacific Coasts fish stocks overall show little improvement, despite the management strategies that have been implemented to try to increase fish population. This is primarily due to overexploitation North Coast and Hecate Strait Herring and Salmon populations are low overall. The Prince Reupert Herirng stock is moderate in abundance, while the Haida Gwaii stock has shown little improvement for the past ten years, The Central Coast Herring stock numbers are at a record low in abundance. Sockeye Salmon population has been consistently declining since the 1990 s due to the dangerous nature of their route of migration of this species through to the Gulf of Alaska. Groundfish stock tends to vary from year to year. The decline in dissolved oxygen in these areas has shown to affect distribution. Groundfish stocks are improving overall, but those of shorter life spans (ie. flat fish) show much greater improvement then those with longer life spans (ie. rockfish). West Coast Vancouver Island Pacific hake, herring and Sockeye salmon, all remain in low abundance in this area. The size of herring when they reach maturity is also declining. Sockeye survivability is considered low in 2010. A single species the pacific sardine was once collapsed coast wide, has now reached its original full range in this ecozone. • 6. Forgiveness In John Grisham s Bleachers John Grisham s, Bleachers conveys the theme, forgiveness can help to heal wounds, as Coach Rake s time starts counting down and the players must take the last chance they must have to find forgiveness. Forgiveness although most of the time has to do with more than one person, throughout the novel forgiveness is shown by one person forgiving themselves. No one who was in the locker room during halftime of the 1987 game would ever forget what happened. It was a wound to everyone. A coach punching a player, he could have been fired. But not one person chose to share about it to anyone, until it was dug up 15 years later. Everyone there was affected by it, especially Coach Eddie Rake and Neely Crenshaw. Neely was so amazingly infuriated about it that, after he took his anger back out against him, he took it out on the field. And as the Messina Spartans pulled a victory after being down by a whole lot and were thought to have no chance, Rake was on the sidelines watching them score the final touchdown. • 7. John Brown And The Abolition Movement also the value of non violent resistance supported by the transcendentalists and, There were many prominent figures in the Abolition movement that made great strides to freedom. Most took the route of political campaigning, but a few decided to take a more direct approach. One said individual is John Brown. John Brownwas a white abolitionist born in Connecticut who simply grew tired of the pacifist approach and took up arms with a few volunteers against slavery. Brown was born the son of Owen Brown, a tanner, in the town of Torrington, Connecticut. The Browns were conventional evangelicals, and John went to school in Massachusetts to become a Congregationalist minister. Unfortunately he ran out of money and returned to his family and opened his own tannery with his brother. He soon started a family and his tannery was growing to a very successful business. A few years came to pass, and tragedy struck his family. One of his sons died, Brown became very sick, he incurred a tremendous amount of debt, and his wife passed shortly after the death of a newborn son. A year later he would marry 16 year old Mary Ann, and have 13 children, creating a total of 20 children of which only 11 would survive into adulthood. After moving his family to the town of Franklin Mills, Ohio, he opened a new tannery but soon fell victim to the Panic of 1837, leaving him in more debt. The USA used the Eagle as their unit, and Germany introduced the new gold mark, while Canada adopted a dual system based on both the American Gold Eagle and the British Gold Sovereign. Australia and New Zealand adopted the British gold standard, as did the British West Indies, while Newfoundland was the only British Empire territory to introduce its own gold coin as a standard. Royal Mint branches were established in Sydney, New South Wales, Melbourne, Victoria, and Perth, Western Australia for the purposes of minting gold sovereigns from Australia s rich gold deposits. The Gold Exchange Standard Towards the end of the 19th century some of the remaining silver standard countries began to peg their silver coin units to the gold standards of the United Kingdom or the USA. In 1898,British India pegged the silver rupee to the pound sterling at a fixed rate of 1s 4d, while in 1906, the Straits Settlements adopted a gold exchange standard against the pound sterling with the silver Straits dollar being fixed at 2s 4d. Meanwhile at the turn of the century, the Philippines pegged the silver Peso/dollar to the US dollar at 50 cents. A similar pegging at 50 cents occurred at around the same time with the silver Peso of Mexico and the silver Yen of Japan. • 9. The Recognition Of Indian And Transgender Identity Essay The Recognition of Indian and Transgender Identity There are various groups throughout the United State and globally that continue to be treated as though they are not who they say they are. Indian and transgender individuals, while very different, face similar identity issues. Both groups have faced and continue to face issues regarding their identity and whether or not they can be legally recognized for who they are. Indian tribes such as the Navajo have blood quantum laws preventing anyone with less than a quarter Navajo blood from registering with their tribe. This means that they are unable to be legally recognized as an Indian, despite having Indian ancestors. In comparison, the transgender community is facing legal issues with a new bill in North Carolina and Mississippi that requires them to use the bathroom of the gender they were born into. In addition to this, it takes away legal protection for people who identify as LGBT, allowing for legal discrimination. The percent of people who identify as transgender is 0.3% in the United States as of 2011. (How Many People Are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender?). The percent of Indians in the United States as of 2013 is two percent, or 5.2 million (Facts for Features: American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month: November 2014). The misrepresentation Indians and Transgender communities face within the United States is a controversial issue, one that can be seen in the news, novels, and more. For centuries, ... Many people get stuck conforming to society, and other outside forces, they are never really themselves so they only care about society, as a result they never unlock their true potential. With numerous forces pulling in opposite directions, making the right choices can become confusing. By switching to a private insurance system the mayor will be pleased, however the employees and unions will not be pleased. Factors that add to employee dissatisfaction include: company policy and administration, supervision, salary, interpersonal relations, and working conditions (Starling, 2011, p. 357). According to this theory, simply eliminating job dissatisfiers is not enough, what truly motivates employees more effectively are job satisfiers. In order to motivate employees, managers should lessen the amount of dissatisfiers and increase the amount of satisfiers (Starling, 2011). Luckily in this case, the privatization of health benefits falls under the dissatisfiers of company policy and administration. Therefore, even though the employees are upset with the decision to privatize, the human resources director can still motivate employees by lessening the other dissatisfiers and by focusing more on increasing the satisfiers for employees such as giving them more recognition and responsibility. • 12. A Thousand Splendid Suns By Khaled Hosseini Essay Humans have been on Earth for over 200,000 years. We have constantly been evolving and adapting to our surroundings throughout time, and we still do to this day. When reflecting on the subject, the question of why have we been successful? comes about. It can be argued that a significant aspect of our success as a species is our incredible ability to adapt. Furthermore, our adaptability itself is an evolving characteristic; as our race progresses, so does our ability to adapt. Despite the many positive features from our adaptability, the speed in which we adapt can lead to instability within society. Nowadays, the desire to succeed and expand our species is fierce. There seems to be a worldwide competition to be the best or at the top of society. This hunger for the elite spot pressures societies to rapidly advance, which ultimately produces instability and division. When elements of society such as politics or economics are erratic, a solid foundation cannot be formed. The book A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini is an example of how a society can crumble without stability. A Thousand Splendid Suns tells of how Afghanistanis impacted as it passes through five eras of different political powers. The traditional culture and beliefs were altered with each governing group which generated issues within all aspects of society. In the book, women were extremely affected. Physical, environmental, cultural, spiritual, emotional, and educational data are collected during the nursing assessment. The next step is to develop nursing diagnosis(es) and prioritize the identified problems (Edelman, Kudzma, Mandle, 2014). Once the problems are identified, the planning of care can take place. HIV/AIDS affects everyone in their community because the disease spreads fast in their case (the people in Africa). This is due to their sexual behavior. In 1916, President Wilson narrowly won re election after campaigning on the slogan, He kept us out of war; unbeknownst to the country, Wilson s slogan would not remain true. Although the U.S. played a significant military role only during the last six months of the war, Wilson s great mistake of joining the war cost the United States more causalities and money than ever necessary. A majority of Americans had either emigrated from Europe or had family members that had done so. Therefore, most of these people were partial to Britain and France s (the Allied Powers) cause. In this case, it was the wise decision for Wilson to not take sides in the war, so as not to alienate a large number of Americans which would cause an abundance of tension and division between the people of the U.S. Also, it was the best interest of the United States to remain neutral so one they could continue trading with all of the European market. Part I To start a discussion a cultural competence in the field of law and within the courtroom, it s important to establish the definition of culture in clarity. Culture is a dynamic value system of learned elements, with assumptions, conventions, beliefs and rules permitting members of a group to relate to each other and to the world, to communicate and to develop their creative potential. (Obialo) Religion, food, language, customs, unspoken values and beliefs, clothing and other outward expressions make up a group s culture. There are four key components within cultural competence. Those four key components include awareness of your own cultural worldview; your attitude toward differences in cultures; your knowledge of different practices and worldviews culturally; and your communication skills cross culturally. For example, take a case of divorce and child custody involving an Indian couple. The facts exemplified how a judge s lack of knowledge to the culture and practices of the individuals could result in an inaccurate conclusion. In this case, the husband testifies that his wife was hysterical and claimed that she worshiped blocks of blood and practiced voodoo. His testimony casted common Hindu practices in an unfavorable light. This was his scheme to make the courts believe his wife was emotionally volatile and was not fit to parent their child. However, it would be a great mistake to depend on the husband s testimony as the authority one the significance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Essay on Profiling and Airport Security The world is living in a post 9/11 era. Since that September day, security measures have heightened and extra precautions are in place to prevent something of that nature from happening again. The terrorists involved in 9/11 appeared to be shockingly similar to a typical American Citizen. However, their behaviors from that week prior were alarming. Examining the terrorists who have become more prevalent in the last twenty years, there are several things in common with all of them. Their profiles all have similar characteristics, not necessarily racial but largely behavioral. To address this, the United States Government and the Transportation SecurityAdministration should allow profiling in airport securitythroughout the country.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some experts view racial profiling as a disgrace to our civil liberties. Professor of law, Patricia J. Williams claims that racial profiling violates our personal civil liberties and that it cannot prove itself effective against terrorists. She argues that terrorists will do whatever it takes to ensure they cannot be classified physically as terrorists by changing their appearance (172). As we saw in the attacks on September 11, 2001, the terrorists modified their appearance to blend in with the average American citizen. The New York City police commissioner, Raymond Kelly, noted Look at the 9/11 hijackers. They came here. They shaved. They went to topless bars. They wanted to blend in. They wanted to look like they were a part of the American dream... (Harcourt 3) That demonstrates a clear examples of how racial profiling does not work effectively by itself. While the suspect s race may play part in why they are detained, it should not be the reason security officers do so. Behavioral profiling may be the solution to the problem of protecting civil liberties and successfully securing airports. Behavioral profiling uses mostly psychological and behavioral traits in detecting abnormal demeanors. Matthew s dog passed away over a year ago, but because Matthew, as well as other children, is unable to separate real life from fiction; he believed that his dog would receive a watch and return to him. Whereas, if a piece of magnesium metal is added to 30 mL of Hydrochloric Acid, then a reaction will occur and an increase in temperature will be observable. For Part 3 of the experiment, if 50 mL of tap water is placed in a can 2.5 cm inches above a burning marshmallow, then through the process of calorimetry the energycontent of the marshmallow should be 5.0kJ/g (the value provided by the United States Department of Agriculture). Reactions that give off heatas a product are known as exothermicreactions, whereas reactions that absorb heat are known as endothermic reactions (Van Hecke, 1999). An example of an exothermic reaction would be condensation, in which water loses energy, and an example of an endothermic reaction would be melting, in which water gains energy. These two types of reactions are studied to better understand the properties and future potential of substances. For example, recent studies prove that the addition of endothermic chemicals in fire retardant substances effectively stops fires by rapidly cooling the temperature and preventing and re ignition (Tripathi, 2008). This is important because determining what reactions are endothermic or exothermic can better improve techniques to prevent disasters such as a fire. • 37. Resting Potential Research Paper The resting potential of a membrane is when it is negatively charged due to the movement of the positive ions out of the cell. More of the potassium ions diffuse out of specialized gated channels of the nerve cell than the number of sodium ions that diffuse into it. In addition to this movement of ions, active transport of ions occurs due to the Na+/K+ pump which moves or pumps out the respective Na+ and K+ ions at a ratio of 3:2. Because the axon loses a greater number of positive ions than it gains, the inside of its membrane is negative in relation to the outside. The unequal concentration of positive ions across the nerve cell membrane gives rise to the negative resting potential. Polarization is the charge of the resting membrane which is polarized due to the concentration gradient created by the higher number of potassiumions inside than the sodiumions outside. At rest, the potential... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When an axon becomes stimulated a rapid change occurs in the electrical potential difference across the nerve cell membrane, and registers at +40mV. The cell membrane becomes more permeable to sodium than potassium. The gates of the sodium channel open and the gates of the potassium channel close. Sodium ions rush into the nerve cell because of the electrochemical gradient. The rapid influx of sodium ions causes a charge reversal known as depolarization. Once the inside becomes positive the sodium influx is stopped and its gates close. As soon as the inside of the cell becomes positive, the sodium potassium pump in the cell membrane starts up again to pull potassium in and push sodium out. The process of restoring the original polarity of the nerve membrane is called repolarization. • 38. Pro Life Vs Pro Choice Research Paper There has been much controversy regarding the social, ethical, and medical predicament that abortion provokes. Abortion is the procedure of ending a pregnancy with the early removal of a fetus. There is no right or wrong when it comes to abortion; values contribute a great amount to an individual s opinion. This process has led to numerous debates among individuals who believe that it is up to a woman to decide what to do with her body and the individuals who hold that women do not have the right to take away a life. Although it may seem as if the beliefs of pro life and pro choice advocates are on opposite sides of a spectrum, the two sides can come to an agreement about how to at least lessen the number of abortions occurring. Pro choice advocates debate that women should have independence in regards to what they choose to do with their own bodies. These advocates point to the Constitution to support their decision because in 1973 the landmark decision of Roe v. Wade established that a woman s right to abortion is protected by her constitutional right of privacy ( 30 Days: Pro Choice/ Pro Life ). This pertains to freedom of choice. Under the law women were not equal citizens to men, so women that were abused by their husbands or family members attributed it to bad luck. Industrialization widened the work home divide. That is, work done in the home (women s work) and wage labour (men s work) was separated by sex, and the latter was considered real work. In tandem with political and legal gains, throughout the twentieth century the rate of women participating in the work forced increased. As capitalism became the major form of social organization, and women were liberated and emancipated from men and the private sphere, violence was no longer sufficient to enforce dependence on individual men. Stark explains that this was because the material and political basis for patriarchy was displaced, and the illogical privilege based solely on sex was exposed. Sexual hierarchies began to collapse, and men began using a range of behaviours to compliment their use of force. Although it was not specifically written about before the 1970s, this became known as coercive control. Each household governed by coercive control, each relationship, becomes patriarchy in miniature (p. 194). Stark concludes this section by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though some teams back into the postseason, the last squads in usually earn their spots in Week 17. Once the field is set, a five week, 11 game playoffs gets underway, culminating in the biggest sporting event of the year. Why mess with a good thing?he NFL playoffs need to be reseeded not just after each round, but before the start of the postseason tournament altogether. If the playoffs are a true test to find the best team in football, then the league s owners owe it to their fans and everyone involved with the league to structure the playoffs properly, once and for all.
