The Three Egraphies Of Ethnography
This paper will critically discuss and compare three ethnographies that were published in different
times. Ethnography has became the essential field research strategy in humanities. Ethnography has
turned into a made segment of the collection of examination systems. It was produced in humanities,
however in late decades its utilization has spread broadly in the social sciences and the humanities.
The discriminating assessment of ethnographic information is not yet overall created. Fitting
utilization of this kind of material accordingly obliges an understanding of its unique qualities and
shortcomings. These infer not just from the destinations that underlie ethnographic work, both

Opal Card Essay
The Opal card is a contactless smartcard that is the new centrepiece of the new electronic ticketing
system implemented by Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS). It allows the user to top up a balance
either through manual loading (via Opal top up machines), or linked to a credit card. This balance is
used against Opal card readers to scan where the trip begins and ends, automatically calculating the
fare and deducting it from the balance on the card. In the event that the trip has been started, but not
finished (scanned only once within a day), a default fare will be charged to the card. The Opal card
needs to abide by the Identification cards Contactless integrated circuit cards (ISO/IEC 14443)

throughout the greater Sydney region, across all 190 stations of the Sydney train network by 28th
March 2014 and then further extended to include 52 more stations on the South Coast Line to

Crane Selection Case
Crane Selection:
For the precast panel activity, I chose the Liebherr LTM 1220 5.2 because it is capable of lifting the 42
ton precast wall panels into place. At 128 the crane is still able to lift 44.7 tons with its hydraulic
boom. The crane will have no problem lifting the panels to a height of 46ft or a horizontal distance of
65ft. This is why I would recommend setting the crane up on the other side of the railroad tracks and
extend the boom over the tracks when the track is clear. With its impressive axle load active rear axle
steering, it will lift these wall panels with ease and be able to maneuver when complete. The reason
why this crane beat its competition is because it has such a long hydraulic boom which helps on this

Ethnographic Research On Human Behavior
Introduction
Creswell (2007) describes ethnography as a qualitative design in which the researcher describes and
interprets the shared and learned patterns of values (p. 68). Ethnographic research provides a study on
individuals in their own environment. Throughout the research, researchers attempt to answer
questions in regards to human behavior. According to Schwartzman (1993), Ethnography is used for
research involving cultural sharing, and is linked to the use of anthropology as a way to view modern
organization (p. 3). The researchers examine individuals from the inside in order to gain a better
understanding of their actions. One of the keywords in ethnographic research is culture. Culture is the
focal point of ethnographic research. As stated by Van Maanen (Merriam, 2002), the result of
ethnographic inquiry is cultural description (p, 237). This involves the researcher conducting
extensive time to the research.
According to Merriam (2002), methods of Ethnographic research include interviews, observations,
and archival research. Through these methods, researchers are able to gather information on the shared
activities and patterns of individuals (Creswell, 2007). Several procedures are necessary in order to
conduct ethnographic research. The problem must be stated, a phenomenon of interest to study,
gaining access, collecting data, phenomenological data analysis, gathering themes, and compiling the
research information (Creswell, 2007).

Why Is Field Artillery Important
Field Artillery traces its history back to 1775. However, artillery as we know it today is a proud
profession that traces its origins and honorable traditions to centuries before the birth of Christ
(Unknown). In the 18th century Frederick the Great of Prussia began mounting cannoneers on the
backs of horses. This in turn gave the Field Artillery great mobility and the ability to accompany
cavalry. With the development of trucks, horse artillery and horse drawn artillery evolved into the
towed artillery, as we know today (Unknown). The American field artillery has answered the call to
arms in every major war and conflict, evolving our technology, equipment, and cannoneers to employ
these changes in battle. The American Field Artillery was born November 17, 1775, when Henry
Knox, a 26 year old self taught artilleryman, appointed to Chief of the Continental Artillery
(Unknown). In August of 1775, a New York militia company on Manhattan Island confiscated 21
original nine pounders. Fifty nine cannons were on Dorchester Heights and Nook s Hill overlooking
Boston by March 2 1776. General Washington ordered the bombardment of the city, and thus began
the traditions of the American Field Artillery (Unknown). The remaining action seen during the
Revolutionary War was the final ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Americans used artillery in several ground engagements when fighting the bulk of the War at sea.
The artillery during this time consisted mostly of six pounders. Large caliber size howitzers reduced to
12, 18 and 24 pounders in 1824. Secretary of War Joel Roberts Poinsett directed the establishment of
an artillery training camp at Camp Washington and later established four light batteries; one for each
of the four artillery regiments at the time. Major Ringgold s battery, the fourth light battery, was
equipped with the new light 6 pounder and was the only true horse artillery in the service

The Classic May A Time Of Great Expansion During The...
The Classic Maya was a time of great expansion in the Yucatan peninsula. Socially impactful art,
massive architecture, and thriving complex societies. Across the swath of time that was the Classic
Maya, there were great rulers that defined cities. Pakal in Palenque, Tahn Te K inich in Acqueteca,
several kings in Tikal, and several other cities all possessed great leaders that created stability. The
Terminal Classic period was when most all central power, across the Yucatan, was disrupted. There
were cities that were totally abandoned, cities where people dwelled outside of but all activity within
the city had halted, and a general loss of central power. While it can be puzzling to understand what

The characteristics that defined the Classic Maya were no longer being pursued. The strong central
governments of the Classic Maya built palaces and monuments. Pakal of Palenque built a massive
palace beginning in 650 AD. Tahn Te K inich of Acqueteca wanted to elevate the status of Acqueteca,
and his model for that was through massive construction and ceremonial activity. He dedicated large
steala which depicted the king as a great warrior. He also commisioned for a great pyramid to be built.
It never was finished, but the point is that he was very intentional in displaying his power through
construction. Acqueteca is a great example of a city who s central political system was disrupted that
led to its eventual abandonment. As said above, Tahn Te K inich was commissioning many buildings
while maintaining a strong ceremonial center. This all changed when Acqueteca was faced with
imminent military attacks. K inich had to abandon all commissioned work, and begin construction on
a series of wall to protect the city. Because there was such a rush to put up defensive walls, it created
great disruption in the ceremonial and social lives of the people of Acqueteca. The walls were never
fully finished, and through excavations, Acquetca was a place that was hastily left. The palace was
swept clean except relics that were sealed away presumably for hiding purposes. The fate of K inich is
unknown, but it is obvious that he fled. There is no evidence

Dover Castle s Importance

Dover Castle s importance is primarily down to its location. It s in the narrowest section of the straits
of Dover with just 21 miles between England and France: in fact, on a clear day you can see France.
This makes the castle well placed to be the guard post of England .
The castle s incredible strategic location was acknowledged by William the Conqueror, Henry II, the
1770s British Government and even by the British Army in both World War I and World War II.
Through the ages, each of these individuals and organisations built new parts and strengthened the
existing castle. Their overall goal was to keep England secure.
Before Dover Castle was built it was an Iron Age hill fort, this made this location a perfect place to put
a castle because it gave fantastic views not only over their land, but also because of the
aforementioned view of France. This meant that when the castle was eventually built on this site it
was a lot harder to attack and a lot easier to defend. This proves to be the case as the castle has never
been successfully attacked. Furthermore this provided Dover with a strategic advantage locally and
also nationally because of its fantastic location.
The Romans arrived in southern Britain in AD 43, but not much happened on the south coast until 270
AD when 9 forts were built, including one in Dover. The English Heritage guide book tells us that the
Romans built a lighthouse (a Pharos) which probably dates to the first half of the second century AD

Cisco s primary issue faced in the case is how to sustain change after the so called bursting of the tech

The Travels Of Marco Polo
The Travels of Marco Polo begins with the journey taken by Marco Polo s father and his uncle, in
which they go to present day china and meet Kublai Khan. The Polo s family were the first Europeans
that Khan got to meet. The Polo s represent the ideals of Europeans and Khan was very interested
about their way of life. He wanted to know everything they knew about European politics, religion,
and their justice system, And then he inquired about the Pope and the Church, and about all that is

Christianity was interesting. Different countries had their own beliefs. During these time periods,
people began to explore the world and enlighten others on how other cultures live. Kahn allowed his
people to belief in other religions. Not many leaders will allowed that. This is so different from the

probably knew that allowing different religions gave his people more knowledge of other cultures. His
society was moving with the times. The country not being under one influence represented how the
word is. The world is populated with different types of people and cultures.

The Pros And Cons Of Minority Groups
One of the main reasons for a state to be created would be the protection of the people who live in it,
therefore, one of a state s main concerns should be the security of its citizens, especially in dealing
with threats, whether they are traditional or non traditional. Every day, lives are put at peril when these
threats are not dealt with properly.
Sadly, human rights and the issues connected to it are often disregarded as something that is less
important, especially when compared to issues such as arms proliferation or territorial integrity or the
strategic interests of a state. That is to say, not that these issues are not critically important as well.
However, the world would be a much better place if in dealing with each other and accommodating ...

However, what to do if the majority is hostile towards the minority? Minority groups should have the
same rights and protection as the majority group. However, this is often not the case. Either it is
because more members from the majority group are represented in positions of decision making, or
either it is out of fear of upsetting members of the majority group, the minority groups in a state are
often put at disadvantage with their rights at least partially lessened. Although constitutions and laws
may demand for equality, the truth is not always so sweet. In fact, in many states across the
international stage, minorities are rarely a member of the government, especially if there already is a
prejudice or social jealousy towards these groups. However, representation and political rights would
be the least of concerns when one considers that some minority groups are so oppressed that they have
to face the threat of violence daily. The dilemma for the government is that many are not capable of
doing a decent job at protecting the minorities of their nation since it can possibly upset the majority
group, other than having to spend time and resources

Glass Menagerie Symbolism
People who are different are sometimes seen as inferior individuals with subordinate lives. Tennessee
Williams, playwright of the famous, The Glass Menagerie, exposes these ideas through the
development of the character Laura, while tying her to strong symbolic features such as her glass
unicorn in order to show the audience everyone has hope. On the surface, Laura is seen as a bleak
character with an empty future, but with the symbolism utilized by Williams, Laura s tremendous
strength is revealed as she recognizes her abilities as well as a positive future for herself. At first, the
breaking of the glass unicorn can be seen as a troubling experience for Laura, because throughout the
play the reader has seen her emotional attachment with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

deal of time. In addition, by pointing out that unicorns are extinct in the modern world, Jim reveals the
same point; that Laura is not a part of society because she has become comfortable with her dreary
life, while letting her disability prevent her from having a meaningful future. Hence, Laura s positive
reaction to her broken possession exposes her incredible strength, which is a surprise considering
throughout the play she has been portrayed as a fragile character. Laura regards Jim s actions by
saying, I ll just imagine he had an operation. The horn was removed to make him feel less freakish!
Now he will feel more at home with the other horses, the ones that don t have horns. Laura is

Strawberry Girl Vs American Folk Art Analysis
The main difference between both of these artworks is that one is a photograph, while the others is a
painting. The artistic styles are strikingly different, the ambrotype is a positive photograph on a piece
of glass, while The Strawberry Girl takes on a more abstract approach. In American Folk art, visual
realism was not that important. the girl s form seems to be anatomically incorrect and simplified. The
body is flattened and stiff looking compared to the photograph, which is a photo of a real little girl.
The process of creating both works is also different. The ambrotype probably was complicated to
create since, photographers ha to use different chemical and processes to achieve the final product.

How Law Enforcement Can Prove Evidence And The Guilty With...
There are different ways law enforcement can prove evidence and the guilty with impression
evidence. Latent (invisible) or patent (visible) prints that are used in criminal investigations are
typically collected from crime scene specialists to reveal or extract fingerprints from any surface or
objects with the use of chemical or physical methods. Fingerprints can be shown when they are taken
from a crime scene where the crime was committed. Fingerprints and bite mark evidence have similar
traits to shoe prints and tire tracks that can be used in criminal investigations. There are a percentage
of palm prints that must be left at the scene to make a comparison for valid evidence.
Fingerprints can be taken from a crime scene in various methods. Fingerprints are classified into three
categories depending on the surface they are found. Fingerprints on soft surfaces are most likely to be
three dimensional plastic prints such as soap, wax, wet paint, fresh caulk, etc. ( A Simplified Guide To
Fingerprint Analysis , n.d). The fingerprints on hard surfaces are patent or latent prints including
blood, dirt, ink, paint, etc. transferred from a finger or thumb to a surface ( A Simplified Guide To

photographed in high resolution with a forensic measurement scale for the image for reference. There

Odysseus s pride and the Gods The two issues that will be discussed will be whether Odysseus s
downfall was himself or the gods. When Odysseus and his men leave to return home after the Trojan
War, the ocean currents and wind throw them off course constantly. When they land they find
themselves on an island with Cyclops roaming everywhere. Odysseus and his handpicked men head
into a cave where he helps himself to the food. After sometime the Cyclops that resides in that cave
returns and traps them. Being hungry the Cyclops eats two of the men. Odysseus then devises a plan
to escape; he gets the Cyclops drunk on the wine he receive from a priest he saved, next Odysseus

How all Odysseus s problems start was at the Cyclops Island when he yelled his name to the Cyclops
that prayed to the god Poseidon and had Odysseus curse. Only after Odysseus angers the Cyclops that

only the offenses others have done to them and nothing more. Next at the Witch s island Odysseus
saves his men and stays with the witch for a year despite his crew s wishes, that creates a shred of
distrust between them. Eventually that causes a domino effect after Hades and the monster where
Odysseus hides behind his men; when they land on the sun god s island. The men go behind Odysseus

Key Characters In King Schariar And His Brother
Through the presentation of the central characters and subtle yet clever methods of telling the story
and conveying its themes are some of the key reasons King Schariar and his Brother is so engaging to
all its readers, and perhaps why it has stood the greatest centuries long test of time.
Firstly, the character of King Schariar, the namesake of the story: We are first introduces to him in the
context of being his father s son, who was one of the best monarchs of his time . The state of the
Sassanidae dynasty is said to be prosperous , powerful and all the King s subjects peaceful and
content, supportive of their monarch. The future King Schariar and his brother, Schahzeman, are very
close and affectionate to one another, so much so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows in his dialogue with the grand vizir, wherein he utters almost nothing but threats of
violence. The stark contrast between who the Sultan once was with who he has become is so colossal
and near unbelievable it implores us to carry on reading, especially as Scherazade enters the picture.
Our first grasp at who Scherazade is comes through the voice of her , the grand vizir. She is beautiful,
rich and highly educated, so naturally we would expect her to behave as most other women of her
stature would snotty and spoilt. Only she is the furthest thing from. We see her spark of courage and
perseverance in the conversation she has with her father. Her words are polite, reverent, imploring him
to grant her wish, as opposed to begging or demanding. In this, we learn of her linguistic aptitude, her
ability to bend the will of those whom she speaks to whatever she wants. She is powerful in her words
and her wit powerful in the same way Schariar is with his corrupt violence.
The parallels and contrasting juxtaposition between Scherazade and King Schariar are intriguing,
since they are such different people. Their skills in manipulation equal each other in strength, yet their
motives and platform for that power does not. As I have mentioned before, Scherazade achieves her
power through her words, Schariar through exploiting his royal standing as King. This comes out in
the narration: We see very little of Schariar verbally commanding or

the chrysanthemums Essay
The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck
The short story The Chrysanthemums shows how extraordinarily forward thinking the author, John
Steinbeck, was in his understanding of the pressures that women dealt with in his time. Through the
exploration and illustration of women s emotions, Steinbeck gives us a view into the struggle of
women in the early 20th century to find a place for themselves in society as well as establishing their
own sexuality(Charters, 502).
The story starts out with the description of a grey fog over the place where the story is set. The
significance of this is to set the mood of the story. It also is a possible representation of how the main

The world that she lives in is a man s world, and her husband is a man s man and this is illustrated in
his actions when talking to the men in suits They smoked cigarettes and studied the machine as they
talked . This idea of it being a man s world is a recurring theme in the story, another example of which
is Henry s attitude towards Elisa and the way he talks to her, like he is talking to someone beneath him
I ll get out the car. You can put on your coat while I m starting (The Chrysanthemums, 6).
Steinbeck gives us a clear understanding that Elisa isn t very happy with her position in life, this is
obvious when talking to the repairman, she says I wish women could do such things symbolizing her
discontent with not just her role but women s roles in society. And the fact that she argued over the
fact that women wouldn t like the repairman s work shows that she is willing to stand up for herself
and her beliefs. When Elisa is talking to the man about what it feels like when the plants bud, and tells
him about the stars and then when she reached out for his leg, and then was ashamed, this is her way
for expressing her sexual frustration. The fact that she felt ashamed shows that she saw sex and
anything of relation to it as a sin, even though it is something that she wanted. This is marked by the
fact that after the repairman left she

Demolition Man Dystopian Elements

The dystopian element is similar to source #1 the host because they both have citizens who want to
take their world back. Within the movie Demolition Man the main character John Spartan choses to
lead a rebellion against the new government leader because of his unjust ways of living. John goes
down into the under living areas where people don t follow the rules up above and have their own way
of living. The sewer people consider John to be a blessing in disguise causing them to get riled up and
deciding to kill Dr. Raymond Cocteau. Demolition Man shows how citizens conform to uniform
expectations and rebel by the sewer people deciding to kill Dr. Raymond Cocteau the leader of the
normal world. This is also demonstrated in The Host when Melanie beings to take back her own body
and rebels against Wanda. The Sewer people in Demolition Man effect the society up above because
they take their food also show them their way of living by wearing whatever they want and doing
whatever they want. Inside the dystopian society another main character Simon Phoenix breaks many
laws also getting a small amount of people to follow him into battle against the above world. Simone
leads with John Spartan in order to get their city back to the way it was originally and towards the end
of the movie they succeed. After Simone kills Dr. Cocteau John leads the sewer people up from under
the world and shows them their new world they then begin to ignore all of the old laws and the
citizens from up above follow the new rules and many continue to join making their new world. This
finale act of rebellion shows how even small acts can lead to big changes. The dystopian element of
citizens conform to uniform expectations and rebel act as a bonding path of Demolition man and the
host as both main characters cause a rebellion so big that they end up

Blockbuster Research Paper
American films have been divided into two main categories: Blockbusters and Independent films. In
order for a film to be categorized as a blockbuster there has to be heavy advertising and a high
production value which calls for an enormous financial budget. Blockbuster films are usually
produced by one of the major movie studios such as Warner Brothers or Paramount and star well
known actors in order to draw in the audience. There is a misconception that a film is considered a
blockbuster based off the success of the film in the cinema and how much it grossed. Unlike
blockbusters, Independent films rely heavily on the actual art of filmmaking and less on the popularity
and success. These films do not feature famous actors and are usually not shown in theaters.
Blockbusters target a wide audience and Independent films generally draw an older and more
intellectual crowd. Because blockbusters are solely driven by financial gain, filmmaking by the major
studios has become more about business then about the art of film. Movie projects are more about
marketability then artistic vision. They are based on how well they will generate reputable income
from the sales of toys, video games, and sequels. The success of a movie is evaluated by ... Show

usually pretty high and have the potential to go far and above them due to unforeseen issues and
technical difficulties. Also, because they choose famous actors, for marketing purposes, they have to

Impact of Industrial development on Nigeria stock market.
The potentials of capital market in Nigeria as a catalyst to economic and industrial development
cannot be over emphasized. The capital market as an internal part of a country s financial system
operates at the long end of the system to mobilize resources for long term development and growth.
Basically, the capital market accelerates growth by providing ,relatively long term capital debt and
equity finance for government and corporate sector. Several factors are said to contribute towards

For example, the South African stock market has about 650 listed companies while South Korea
market has been traced to apathy of Nigerian entrepreneurs to go public due to the fear of losing
control of their businesses. Another factor is the weak private sectors which is a serious constraint
militating against healthy growth of the stock market.
11. The problem of stock market relates to the degree of access, which investors have in buying ,and
selling of stocks in such a market. The more liquid in the stock market is the more the investors will
be interested in trading in the market. The lack of adequate number of investors in the Nigerian stock

is very low in Nigeria compared with 100 percent,9.0 percent and 4.6 percent in Botswana,Zimbabwe,

Constantinople were taken. You would feel like many Europeans during World War 2 with the ever

show how history often repeats itself. Attila the Hun was born in present day Hungary in around 406
AD. He and his brother, Bleda, were crowned as rulers of the Huns in 434 AD. It is widely believed
that Attila ordered his brother s assassination in 445, so as to assume full control over the fearsome
Hunnic Army. He spent his life attempting to take down the vast Roman Empire, and took over many
of their cities. His biography states, Attila was notorious for his fierce gaze...as if to enjoy the terror he

The Basement Of Ivory Tower
Have you ever had an extraordinary desire for something, only to have someone tell you it is out of
your reach? Does that make you try harder, or completely give up? In Professor X s essay, In the
basement of Ivory Tower, (X) he goes into great detail stating how his students have the desire to
maintain high academic standards in order to receive a promotion, to further their career, or because it
is a job requirement. However, these same students cannot possibly pass their classes due to their lack
of abilities. Initially, I found myself believing the author was hostile and unhappy in his career,
although, the more I read this article I found myself shifting opinions, and I began to appreciate what a
controversial topic college education truly is. Professor X discusses how some students are unfit for
college. I believe that college isn t for everyone. Furthermore, society has set expectations that
everyone should attend college. As a society we have lost track of the value of apprentice programs.
My whole life I have heard that college isn t something you think about doing it is simply something
everyone must do. I cannot help but believe that there are some very valid points to Professor X s
article, for example, when he states that some students are simply unfit for the academic level that
college requires. The author states, Everyone wants to triumph. But not everyone can in fact, most can

Is Facebook Making Us Lonely Analysis
Is Facebook Making US Lonely? What Facebook has revealed about human nature and this is not a
minor revelation is that a connection is not the same thing as a bond, and that instant and total

specifically Facebook has an effect on users lives. Marche really shows us how our live in a

whom to discuss important matters, and 15 percent said they had only one such good friend. By 2004,
25 percent had nobody to talk to and 20 percent had only one confidant. (106) Marche throughout this
entire article is trying to show that social interaction matters, but that is all stating to die down people
are starting to confide in each other less. He continues to show that being lonely is bad for your health

Causes Of The Secession Crisis
Historians everywhere have many different ideas about why the Secession Crisis occurred. Moreover,
there are many debates about whether secession about slavery at all. Yet, the Secession Crisis was a
time in which many factors came into play.
The argument being made by McPherson in Antebellum Southern Exceptionalism is that even though
American Exceptionalism is a term that can be used loosely, such was not the case for Southern
Exceptionalism. Southern Exceptionalism is this idea that the period of time before, during, and after
the Civil War, the South managed to create another identity of itself, completely separate from that of
the North (McPherson 41). Furthermore, McPherson believes that the reason for the Secession Crisis

He gave many examples detailing why the bill was useless, one of them being that It is true that some
southerners cherished the hope of making Kansas the sixteeneth slave state, but even if they had
succeeded, it would have been a nominal and temporary triumph gained at excessive cost
(Fehrenbacher 90). Fehrenbacher explains how even if Kansas did become a slave state, by looking at
the whole picture, it was clear that ultimately the cons outweighed the pros. There was no point and in
the end it created even more anger. Overall, historians all over the world have many ideas as to why
the Secession Crisis occurred. McPherson believes that it is because of Southern Exceptionalism,
Gienapp believes it s because of the Slave Power, and Fehrenbacher believes it s because of the
Kansas Nebraska Act. However, though they all seem to have different ideas they all have one thing in
common: the trend. In his essay, McPherson does in fact bring up the subject of slavery. In this entire
essay, McPherson only speaks briefly about the effect that slavery had on secession, stating that The
fear that slavery was being hemmed in and threatened with destruction contributed to the defensive
aggressive style of Southern political behavior (McPherson 46). Furthermore, McPherson uses slavery
as a way to cement the idea of how the North and South had this difference in beliefs, rather than
bringing up the discussion of slavery

Abstract: The experimenters conducted a total of four mini labs. In each lab they had to find
measurements dealing with different instruments such as a ruler, caliper, stopwatch, and two spring

Step two: They recorded the height on the table and included an uncertainty.
Step three: The experimenters repeated the process to measure the diameter of the 100 g mass.
Step four: The experimenters calibrated the 10 N spring scale, and confirmed the mass of 100 g mass.
Step five: Then they recorded the mass and uncertainty onto the table.
Step six: After this, they used the equation, Density = Mass/Volume, to find the density of the 100 g

The Push for Environmental Justice Essay
Every movement has its pros and its cons, and environmental justice is no different. The term
environmental justice emerged in the 1980 s, but the movement started as early as the 1970 s. Of
course, the want for environmental justice has always been there. All throughout history justice has
been sought after, and environmental justice is just half of it. Politics and the economy are extreme

  • 4. Opal Card Essay The Opal card is a contactless smartcard that is the new centrepiece of the new electronic ticketing system implemented by Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS). It allows the user to top up a balance either through manual loading (via Opal top up machines), or linked to a credit card. This balance is used against Opal card readers to scan where the trip begins and ends, automatically calculating the fare and deducting it from the balance on the card. • 5. Crane Selection Case Crane Selection: For the precast panel activity, I chose the Liebherr LTM 1220 5.2 because it is capable of lifting the 42 ton precast wall panels into place. At 128 the crane is still able to lift 44.7 tons with its hydraulic boom. The crane will have no problem lifting the panels to a height of 46ft or a horizontal distance of 65ft. This is why I would recommend setting the crane up on the other side of the railroad tracks and extend the boom over the tracks when the track is clear. With its impressive axle load active rear axle steering, it will lift these wall panels with ease and be able to maneuver when complete. The reason why this crane beat its competition is because it has such a long hydraulic boom which helps on this particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ethnographic Research On Human Behavior Introduction Creswell (2007) describes ethnography as a qualitative design in which the researcher describes and interprets the shared and learned patterns of values (p. 68). Ethnographic research provides a study on individuals in their own environment. Throughout the research, researchers attempt to answer questions in regards to human behavior. According to Schwartzman (1993), Ethnography is used for research involving cultural sharing, and is linked to the use of anthropology as a way to view modern organization (p. 3). The researchers examine individuals from the inside in order to gain a better understanding of their actions. One of the keywords in ethnographic research is culture. Culture is the focal point of ethnographic research. As stated by Van Maanen (Merriam, 2002), the result of ethnographic inquiry is cultural description (p, 237). This involves the researcher conducting extensive time to the research. According to Merriam (2002), methods of Ethnographic research include interviews, observations, and archival research. However, artillery as we know it today is a proud profession that traces its origins and honorable traditions to centuries before the birth of Christ (Unknown). In the 18th century Frederick the Great of Prussia began mounting cannoneers on the backs of horses. This in turn gave the Field Artillery great mobility and the ability to accompany cavalry. With the development of trucks, horse artillery and horse drawn artillery evolved into the towed artillery, as we know today (Unknown). The American field artillery has answered the call to arms in every major war and conflict, evolving our technology, equipment, and cannoneers to employ these changes in battle. The American Field Artillery was born November 17, 1775, when Henry Knox, a 26 year old self taught artilleryman, appointed to Chief of the Continental Artillery (Unknown). In August of 1775, a New York militia company on Manhattan Island confiscated 21 original nine pounders. Fifty nine cannons were on Dorchester Heights and Nook s Hill overlooking Boston by March 2 1776. General Washington ordered the bombardment of the city, and thus began the traditions of the American Field Artillery (Unknown). The Terminal Classic period was when most all central power, across the Yucatan, was disrupted. The characteristics that defined the Classic Maya were no longer being pursued. The strong central governments of the Classic Maya built palaces and monuments. Pakal of Palenque built a massive palace beginning in 650 AD. Tahn Te K inich of Acqueteca wanted to elevate the status of Acqueteca, and his model for that was through massive construction and ceremonial activity. He dedicated large steala which depicted the king as a great warrior. He also commisioned for a great pyramid to be built. It never was finished, but the point is that he was very intentional in displaying his power through construction. Acqueteca is a great example of a city who s central political system was disrupted that led to its eventual abandonment. As said above, Tahn Te K inich was commissioning many buildings while maintaining a strong ceremonial center. This all changed when Acqueteca was faced with imminent military attacks. K inich had to abandon all commissioned work, and begin construction on a series of wall to protect the city. Because there was such a rush to put up defensive walls, it created great disruption in the ceremonial and social lives of the people of Acqueteca. The walls were never fully finished, and through excavations, Acquetca was a place that was hastily left. The palace was swept clean except relics that were sealed away presumably for hiding purposes. The fate of K inich is unknown, but it is obvious that he fled. There is no evidence ... • 11. Dover Castle s Importance Dover Castle s importance is primarily down to its location. It s in the narrowest section of the straits of Dover with just 21 miles between England and France: in fact, on a clear day you can see France. This makes the castle well placed to be the guard post of England . The castle s incredible strategic location was acknowledged by William the Conqueror, Henry II, the 1770s British Government and even by the British Army in both World War I and World War II. Through the ages, each of these individuals and organisations built new parts and strengthened the existing castle. Their overall goal was to keep England secure. Before Dover Castle was built it was an Iron Age hill fort, this made this location a perfect place to put a castle because it gave fantastic views not only over their land, but also because of the aforementioned view of France. This meant that when the castle was eventually built on this site it was a lot harder to attack and a lot easier to defend. This proves to be the case as the castle has never been successfully attacked. Furthermore this provided Dover with a strategic advantage locally and also nationally because of its fantastic location. The Romans arrived in southern Britain in AD 43, but not much happened on the south coast until 270 AD when 9 forts were built, including one in Dover. The English Heritage guide book tells us that the Romans built a lighthouse (a Pharos) which probably dates to the first half of the second century AD to keep ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of Minority Groups One of the main reasons for a state to be created would be the protection of the people who live in it, therefore, one of a state s main concerns should be the security of its citizens, especially in dealing with threats, whether they are traditional or non traditional. Every day, lives are put at peril when these threats are not dealt with properly. Sadly, human rights and the issues connected to it are often disregarded as something that is less important, especially when compared to issues such as arms proliferation or territorial integrity or the strategic interests of a state. Although constitutions and laws may demand for equality, the truth is not always so sweet. In fact, in many states across the international stage, minorities are rarely a member of the government, especially if there already is a prejudice or social jealousy towards these groups. However, representation and political rights would be the least of concerns when one considers that some minority groups are so oppressed that they have to face the threat of violence daily. She is beautiful, rich and highly educated, so naturally we would expect her to behave as most other women of her stature would snotty and spoilt. Only she is the furthest thing from. We see her spark of courage and perseverance in the conversation she has with her father. Her words are polite, reverent, imploring him to grant her wish, as opposed to begging or demanding. She is powerful in her words and her wit powerful in the same way Schariar is with his corrupt violence. The parallels and contrasting juxtaposition between Scherazade and King Schariar are intriguing, since they are such different people. Their skills in manipulation equal each other in strength, yet their motives and platform for that power does not. In order for a film to be categorized as a blockbuster there has to be heavy advertising and a high production value which calls for an enormous financial budget. Blockbuster films are usually produced by one of the major movie studios such as Warner Brothers or Paramount and star well known actors in order to draw in the audience. There is a misconception that a film is considered a blockbuster based off the success of the film in the cinema and how much it grossed. Does that make you try harder, or completely give up? In Professor X s essay, In the basement of Ivory Tower, (X) he goes into great detail stating how his students have the desire to maintain high academic standards in order to receive a promotion, to further their career, or because it is a job requirement. However, these same students cannot possibly pass their classes due to their lack of abilities. Initially, I found myself believing the author was hostile and unhappy in his career, although, the more I read this article I found myself shifting opinions, and I began to appreciate what a controversial topic college education truly is. Professor X discusses how some students are unfit for college. I believe that college isn t for everyone. Furthermore, society has set expectations that everyone should attend college. As a society we have lost track of the value of apprentice programs. My whole life I have heard that college isn t something you think about doing it is simply something everyone must do. I cannot help but believe that there are some very valid points to Professor X s article, for example, when he states that some students are simply unfit for the academic level that college requires. The author states, Everyone wants to triumph. But not everyone can in fact, most can t. (X, par. 47) In other words, Professor X believes that some students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moreover, there are many debates about whether secession about slavery at all. Yet, the Secession Crisis was a time in which many factors came into play. The argument being made by McPherson in Antebellum Southern Exceptionalism is that even though American Exceptionalism is a term that can be used loosely, such was not the case for Southern Exceptionalism. Southern Exceptionalism is this idea that the period of time before, during, and after the Civil War, the South managed to create another identity of itself, completely separate from that of the North (McPherson 41). He gave many examples detailing why the bill was useless, one of them being that It is true that some southerners cherished the hope of making Kansas the sixteeneth slave state, but even if they had succeeded, it would have been a nominal and temporary triumph gained at excessive cost (Fehrenbacher 90). Fehrenbacher explains how even if Kansas did become a slave state, by looking at the whole picture, it was clear that ultimately the cons outweighed the pros. There was no point and in the end it created even more anger. Overall, historians all over the world have many ideas as to why the Secession Crisis occurred. McPherson believes that it is because of Southern Exceptionalism, Gienapp believes it s because of the Slave Power, and Fehrenbacher believes it s because of the Kansas Nebraska Act. However, though they all seem to have different ideas they all have one thing in common: the trend. In his essay, McPherson does in fact bring up the subject of slavery. In this entire essay, McPherson only speaks briefly about the effect that slavery had on secession, stating that The fear that slavery was being hemmed in and threatened with destruction contributed to the defensive aggressive style of Southern political behavior (McPherson 46). Furthermore, McPherson uses slavery as a way to cement the idea of how the North and South had this difference in beliefs, rather than bringing up the discussion of slavery ... Four hours or two weeks into the excavation, the desk looks exactly the same, primarily because the sloppy person is meticulously creating new piles of paper with new headings and scrupulously stopping to read all the old book catalogs before he threw them away. A neat person would just bulldoze the desk. Neat people are bums and clods at heart. They have cavalier attitude toward possession, including the family heirlooms. Isaiah Gonzales, Roman Acuna September 19, 2014 Abstract: The experimenters conducted a total of four mini labs. The objective in each experiment was to record and measure different objects and to also give advantages and uncertainties when dealing with different instruments.
