Technological Improvements and Their Impact in America Essay
Improvements in agriculture, transportation, and communication between 1790 and 1860 were the
stepping stones for a greater America. From the cotton gin, to the steamboat, to the telegraph, new
innovations were appearing all over. America had finally begun to spread its wings and fly. Due to the
fact that cotton had to be separated by hand, it was costly commodity. One person could barely
separate a pound by hand over the course of a day. It was not until 1793, when Eli Whitney invented
the cotton gin that production of cotton soared. A worker on a plantation could now produce fifty
pounds of cotton a day, instead of just one. With the increase in cotton production, came the increase
in slave labor, which was used to harvest the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After fiddling with his horse drawn machine for almost a decade, he was ready to market it. His
product sold so fast, that in 1847, he relocated to Chicago and built a manufacturing plant for his
reapers and mowers. He had sold thousands of machines within a few years, positively altering the
scale of agriculture. ?Using a hand held sickle, a farmer could harvest half an acre of wheat a day,
with a McCormick reaper two people could work twelve acres a day.? (Tindall, 420) Transportation
also saw some advancements just as agriculture did. In 1795, the Wilderness Road was opened to
wagon and stagecoach traffic. The introduction of this road eased the journey through the Cumberland
Gap into Kentucky and along the Walton roads into Tennessee. After completion of the Philadelphia
Lancaster Turnpike in 1794, a movement for graded and paved roads in the northeast gathered
momentum. By 1831, around four thousand miles of turnpikes had been completed, mostly connecting
the eastern cities. At the same time, new developments in water transportation were made that
included the river steamboat and the canal barge, which carried people and commodities for a lower
price than the wagons on the National Road. The Clermont, sent up the Hudson River to Albany by
Robert Fulton and Robert R. Livingston, was the first commercially successful steamboat. Thereafter,
steamboat usage spread rapidly to other eastern rivers as well as to the Ohio

Character Analysis Of Crooks And Curley s Wife
The characters Crooks and Curley s wife seem to be solitary, and the author explains the reasons for
their loneliness. For example, in a part of the book we see Crooks asking Curley s wife to go back to
her house, before he and the rest of the guys get in trouble for being with her she said Well, I ain t
giving you no trouble. Think i don t like to talk to somebody ever once in a while? Think I like to stick
in that house alla time? (Steinbeck 77). This shows that the boys try to stay away from Curley s wife
because they don t want her husband to think that there is something going on between one of them
and her, leaving her lonesome. This also clarifies the nature of her isolation because she says that she
likes to talk to someone else than just Curley and that she enjoys going out of the house when Curley
is not there, and gives a sense of indignation as she is trying to defend her reasonings for talking to the
boys, this statement leave us to question about Curley s personality and give us an idea of how jealous
and violent he can be for the boys to be afraid. In contrast to this, Crooks story is different, Crooks
was a proud, aloof man. He kept his distance and demanded that other people keep theirs...
Noiselessly Lennie appeared in the open doorway and stood there looking in... Crooks said sharply,
You got no right to come in my room. This here s my room. Nobody got any right in here but me
(Steinbeck 67 68). This quote proves that Crooks is proud of him being

Davis Guggenheim Documentary Analysis
What are you grateful for? What matters most for you? Is it money, is it family? Have you thought
about education and its big role it plays to get you to a future you want and will like? In this well
written documentary directed by Davis Guggenheim, the question of the matter is the American
education system, and its backlash on poverty and areas of need. He follows a couple unlikely kids
and their struggle to get into a average school and how failure to just get into a school like this is the
downfall of someone s future career. This documentary relates so well to previous reads and watches
about the American education system. Involving speeches like Sir Ken Robinson and the book Re
reading America, in correlation with Guggenheim s piece of work. This portrayal of education depicts
harrowing stories of how some kids growing up in places where education is non existent and failure
is common. He uses an array of techniques to capture to attention of the audience and change their
perception of opinions. And he does this through the use of pathos, but in the work of that pathos he
builds it with the help of music and tone. These emotions certainly grab the audience s attention and
beliefs, and uses it to express the opinion and characteristic of the topic argument. Within
Guggenheim s excellent piece of work there are key components that give his artwork a more visual
and thorough meaning along with the story. To start off, Guggenheim s documentary was charismatic

War Of The Worlds Conflict
The War of the Worlds is a fictional novel written by H.G Wells in the year 1898. It was one of the
first stories that shows a scenario of conflict between the human race and extraterrestrials. It was
published by Dover Publications, Inc with a copyright date set in 1997. The book has 145 pages.
The story takes place in London, England in the final years of the 19th century. The conflict is
external(man vs man) and towards the end of the story, becomes internal(man vs self). All is normal in
London when a missile is seen flying through space with its origins from Mars. Before we know it,
Martians are wreaking havoc throughout London. Later the main character starts to think of the future
for the human race, and struggles with his sanity. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most important and critical decisions made was the martian s decision to get rid of bacteria
on their planet thousands of years before. Doing this, their bodies had no need for a resistance against
bacteria. This made the martians very susceptible and vulnerable to disease and viruses contracted
from Earth. Humans have gained a strong resistance over millions of years, because bacteria and
disease has been around since the beginning of time. these germs of disease have taken poll of
humanity since the beginning of things taken tool of our pre human ancestors since life began here.
But by virtue of this natural selection of our kind we have developed resisting power; to no germs do
we succumb without a struggle, and to many does that cause putrefaction in that matter, for instance
our living frames are altogether immune. But there are no bacteria on Mars... (Wells 137). If the
martians had been prepared for this situation, Earth surely would have been doomed, and under
control of the martian pioneers.
Wells truly was one of the most creative writers of his time. In the late 1800s there were no other
writings of extraterrestrials like this one. This book really makes the reader begin to wonder about the
mysteries of life in space, and if humans really are the top of the food chain. Especially during the
time it was written in. This book is every science fiction lover s dream. It shows the possibility of

Positive And Negative Effects Of The Columbian Exchange
Columbian Exchange The Columbian Exchange was a way exchanging new resources between the
new world and the old world. This impacted Europeans and Native Americans positively with the new
materials now available, like technology, plants, and animals. There were some negative effects from
these exchanges too, such as diseases. Made it easier to interact with other cultures. Jamestown First

Elizabeth 1 gave permission for the journey. Area was disease ridden, and many of the early settlers
died from the bad conditions. Everyone ready to leave Jamestown until they found tobacco. Tobacco
was a cash crop to them, and gathered lots of money. Separatists Separatists are a group of people that
are also known as English protestants. Their goal was to separate themselves from the church of
England, whom they had been defying for years. Although they didn t believe everyone deserves
religious freedom, the reason for leaving the Church of England was for them to be able to believe
what they wanted. Joint Stock Companies A Joint Stock Company is a company that has stocks that
are available to be shared by different shareholders. Joint Stock Companies were formed around the
1600s by the English parliament after the amount of money spent in the battle against the Spanish for
North America. This made it possible to gather money to colonize. Encomienda System Nicolás de
Ovando created this system with a main goal of being allowed to give Indians to colonists only if they

colonists, after the colonists would come into the natives towns and conquer it for themselves. West

The Crisis Of The United States
The 2008 so called Great Recession was a time that was tough on a great deal of americans as well as
people all around of the world. The shock was the popping of the housing bubble. After the great
burst, the financial situation of the country began to spiral out of control. Unemployment skyrocketed.
Millions of Americans were laid off. The inflation rate plummeted to an extremely unhealthy amount.
This was strange because the United States had recently spent decades working to lower inflation rate.
They finally received what they wanted and much more. The consumer price index also eventually
crashed as well. A big reason for these crashes were civilian reactions to the bursted housing bubbles.
The United States took several actions to recover from the crisis. They worked at lowering mortgage
interest rates and also passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. They also bailed out huge
failing banks like AIG. We took many actions that eventually paid off and pulled us out of the
recession. The housing market had raising prices that economists thought was just steady growth.
However, once the prices began to drop people grew fearful and stopped buying. This totally through
the market off and it crashed. The country from there financially spiraled out of control. The cause for
this bubble and the bursting of it can be attributed to banking that was irresponsible to say the least.
Bankers were handing out to mortgage loans to people with low income jobs and poor credit

A Weekend at a NASCAR Event Essay
A Weekend at NASCAR
As most people are aware, NASCAR is the fastest growing sport in America. NASCAR, or the
National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, has become a national phenomenon and is attended
by millions of Americans of year.
The NASCAR season begins in February at the speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, and runs until
November where it concludes at the final race in Homestead, Florida. The season consists of 36 races
at tracks throughout the United States. Some tracks, such as Daytona and Texas, sponsor two races
each season. So what is the appeal for so many people?

tailgating can last a week. Fans will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
THE FAN
One of the first things a real NASCAR fan does is to choose their favorite driver to cheer for. Without
choosing a driver, a NASCAR race is just a bunch of cars going fast around the track. Not choosing a
driver would be like attending a football game and not having a favorite team. You re just not invested.
A real fan will also use a track scanner, which is a radio that allows you to hear the conversations
between the driver and crew chief, as well as his spotter. If you don t have one, they are available to
rent at the track. A radio or scanner also helps you stay abreast of what s happening on the track. Since
these cars are moving at speeds of 150 to 200 miles per hour, there are the inevitable crashes, so the
scanner helps you to know what happened.
GENERAL ATMOSPHERE
The atmosphere is electric. It s hard to imagine that a single race can bring more than 200,000 people!
The track at Texas Motor Speedway is very fan friendly in that fans can bring small coolers for their
drinks and food. This is unlike the food concessions at other sporting events where you are forced to
fork over $5.00 for a hot dog. The only limitation is no glass bottles. The fans are very friendly and
everyone seems to get along well. There seems to be a genuine kinship and camaraderie among
NASCAR fans. Real racing fans don t want to see wrecks; they want to want to

Taoism
Taoism
Taoism is a religion as well as a philosophy that can be dated all the way back to around 500 B.C. It is
one of the two dominant religions in China. Taoism is also termed Daoism in the more common
language system, called Hanyu Pinyin, representing Chinese letters using Roman letters and is more
commonly used amongst China and around the world.
Like the Christian faith, they too use a sacred book, Tao Te Ching written by the great Sage, Lao Tzu
as a guidance. This text has been translated almost as much as the Christian Holy Bible it. It consists
of 81 poems or chapters that are quite broad and vague and because of this, it can be interpreted and
applied universally. It speaks of possible inner greatness but also the ... Show more content on

A sage is one who is simple, tranquil, very open to life, intelligent, and reserved. He is not arrogant
and careless to such political affairs, does not seek fame, and does not discriminate opposites but
embraces them. The sage is indifferent to success or failure. He understands that life driven by self
centered ambition will never make sense, no matter how successful you are or with how many positive
externals you care to adorn it. When one does not let nature take its course, one may fail. He
understands that one may very much succeed but also has the ability to very much fail. To be a sage is
to be a man of peace. One avoids conflict, and steers away from violence. One is not intimidated of
death nor does one fear death. Life itself acquires meaning only when one satisfies ones spiritual
needs by living in total harmony with the Tao. He must seek Supreme Ultimate which is the sum of all
specific principles. The Supreme Ultimate really is nothing within itself, but concentration of
responsiveness to principle as it is immanent and real in the affairs of daily life. So to become a sage
may seem difficult but achievable if clarity is what is being

Essay about White People and Black Man
Crash. It is the perfect analogy of how we as a human race deal with life, people and our own
experiences. Physical characteristics and racial differences may be interpreted as two distinguishing
traits that separate us. I think it s what keeps us apart. That leaves several abstract questions that the
film Crash illustrates. What are the origins of personal prejudice? Do individual experiences fuel
standing stereotypes? Is it easier to perpetuate existing stereotypes because things will never change?
Can people battle internal struggles within their own ethnic group? What prohibits us from
overcoming these prejudices? The writers of the Crash managed to extend my viewing experience
beyond the 90 minute film, thus forcing me to analyze my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sandra Bullock s character made the statement about the relationship between white and black people:
If a white woman sees two black men walking towards her and turns the other way, she s a racist. Well
I got scared and didn t say anything, and the next thing I knew, I had a gun shoved in my head!
Perhaps stereotypes like that have maintained their prevalence because there are so many people that
perpetuate them. It is often believed that all young black men are destined to be thugs, criminals and
drug dealers. Additionally it is a common statistic that the majority of incarcerated males are African
American. As a young black man, it must be difficult to break free of that stereotype.
Things will never change. That attitude along with the perpetuation of existing stereotypes may be
largely responsible for negative racial longevity. Ludacris character was one of the most interesting to
me. Here was this articulate young black man that spent his life stealing cars from white people. Rap
music is the music of the oppressor, he said. It is often easier to blame others for your shortcomings
than it is to confront them head on.
On the reverse, trouble facing stereotypes can occur anywhere. They are not simply restricted to skin
tone and neighborhoods. Racial discrimination transpires through social class as well. This creates
division within the

Eleanor Roosevelt And His Life
Eleanor Roosevelt was born October 11, 1884 in New York City to father Elliot Roosevelt and mother
Anna Rebecca Hall. Eleanor s mother was a debutante who was disappointed in Eleanor s looks. It is
even reported that she called her granny (Ward,1). Her mother died when she was 8 leaving her to be
raised by her father. Elliot Roosevelt suffered from alcoholism and a narcotic addiction. He was often
not allowed to see her due to this condition and was committed to an asylum in France in 1890(
biography, 2). Her father also died when she was almost 10 years old. She was then sent, along with
her brother, to live with her maternal grandmother. This relationship was more out of duty than love.
As Eleanor grew up she learned three lessons she was unattractive; no one s love for her was likely to
last; and those whom she counted most could be counted on to let her down. ( Ward,1). She found she
enjoyed helping others and found it an escape from her problems. At age 15 she began school outside
of London at Allenswood School. The founder, Marie Souvestre, of this school called Eleanor the
most amiable girl I have ever met (Cook, 110). She introduced Eleanor to helping people in need and
taught her to think for herself. Mare also took her traveling and showed her many impoverish
countries. Before going to Allenswood Eleanor went to a Covent School in Italy and prior to that was

Genetic Disorder Project
I remember when I was a little girl that I would go to the doctor a lot. I had quite a few medical issues
and recall being sick or not feeling well quite often. My parents would get worried because they didn t
quite know what was wrong or how to deal with what I was going through. They could tell that
something wasn t right, but they hadn t encountered a situation like this before so we went to many
different doctors in an attempt to figure out what I had. Finally, after many doctors and many tests,
they told my parents that I had Wilson s disease. Being that I was only eight years old at the time, I
didn t know what this meant but my mom suddenly remembered that there was an instance of this
disease in the family, with her grandmother struggling from it her whole life. Through the years, I
have learned a lot about the condition that I am dealing with. Now, at 34 years old, I have a better
understand of exactly what it is. According to research, it is classified as a single gene defect that
occurs as a result of a mutated protein. What happens specifically is that there is an abundance of
copper, which spreads to different parts of the body such as the liver and the brain. As we know, the
liver and the brain are two incredibly important organs in our body, which play a crucial role in how
we operate. Therefore the copper has a significant detrimental impact on my overall health and well

Death Of Latin American Culture
Death in Latin American Culture Death is part of life in every part of the world, and every culture
handles it differently. Just like every other region in the world, the approaches to death in Latin
America are unique to the area, and have changed over the years. The Pre Colonial death rituals in
Mexico, Peru, and Haiti each have their own method of addressing this inevitable tragedy. Never the
less there are common threads throughout the Aztec, Inca, and Taino peoples. When the Europeans
arrived in the Americas the beliefs and assumptions surrounding death changed, along with the rest of
the cultural landscape. This tumultuous time eventually led to a very unique heritage for the modern
people of Mexico, Peru, and Haiti. The infamous Aztec empire ruled the Mesoamerica through terror
and religious wars from the 14th century to the 16th century. Their capital was the floating city of
Tenochtitlan that was founded around 1325 until it the Aztecs were conquered by the Spanish in 1521

Grace Kelly Research Paper
Grace Kelley to Blake Lively: Hollywood Role Model Queens Think about style, elegance, and the
role model for women in the 1950s. Not only was Grace Kelly a famous movie star with flawless
looks and style, but she was also a philanthropist, a mother and a princess. Now, this is a rather
impressive list of qualities that seems as if it were a fairy tale, a wish list that a child may put together
on their eighth birthday party, and wish for as they blew out the candle. The only thing is that this was
a reality for Grace Kelly in the 1950s until she passed away in the 1980s, this is also true for Blake
Lively aside from the fact that she is not actually married to a prince. Blake Lively picked up where
Grace Kelly left off, making Blake the new queen of poise and grace. Grace Kelly is still a role model
during this time, people still compare a lot of actresses to her and designers are still trying to embody
her essence in clothing, but now Blake has moved in. Grace Kelly was the role model of her era and

How Red Effects Human Emotion and Behavior Essay
There is an influence constantly working on our minds, one that we may not have even noticed. It
follows us everywhere, and we can t escape it no matter how hard we try. It doesn t make a sound or
move, it just silently hides in plain sight effecting the way we think. Colors are one of the most
effective yet least thought about influences on our minds. How come seemingly every super hero has a
red suit? Or why are the super villains always wearing black? Why are hospitals never painted red,
and most businesses have white, yellow, and red for their logo colors? The most emotionally intense
color is arguably red. Even though we don t always notice it, red effects our moods, how we perceive
others, our health, and even how we talk. It also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If one competitor is weak and another is strong, wearing red won t change that. But the closer the
levels of the two players, the more the color will have an influence on the other opponent (Ahmed
Abdul Sherif). Having red as a team color can make the other team feel anxious, cause them to make
more mistakes, and even feel guilt or hatred while in the game. Pink, a lighter shade of red, has a
slightly different effect. Though still a shade of red, it has a dramatic difference in how it can make us
feel. Pink sneaks in feeling of love, serenity, and can drain energy. Which is why often times teams
paint their opponents locker rooms pink, in hopes to make them a little more relaxed and drained
before games. Clothing A study at University of Rochester was done on how the color red can effect
how men think of women. In the first test, they held up one of two pictures. Both were pictures of the
same woman, but she was wearing red in one, and blue in the other. In the second test, they held up
one of two pictures as well. The two pictures were exactly alike, but one had a red border around the
picture, and the other had black. On average 85% of the men said the woman with either the red
border or the red shirt was more attractive. They also said they would be willing to do more for and
spend more on the woman in red (someone). This wasn t the case when asked which woman looked

Student s Performance Gap Between Students And Students
Introduction Academic institutions are always trying to improve the grades of their students. They are
researching if a smaller classroom setting will improve the grades of their students overall. This is
important because these institutions want their students to graduate in the typical four years. In
another study, a small classroom setting is important during adolescence because a child develops
social behaviors which later affect his or her level of learning (Cappella, 2012). Another researcher
presented how students who were struggling in school benefitted from a smaller classroom and this
closed the achievement gap between students (Bosworth, 2014). Also, one study reported that class
size had no effect when it came to a student s performance when they were in middle school, but there
is an effect when the students are in elementary school (Vaag, 2013). Students in a smaller class will
have a higher grade compared to a students in a larger class. Method Participants Participants were
nationally sampled from nine introductory psychology courses including each grade level, freshman
through seniors. While both male and female students are included in the sample the female
population is 68% of the sample size which is made up of 488 students from smaller classes and 879
students from larger classes across the country. The students participating in the study were required to
take the course for credit; however they had to give their consent to allow their data to be used

The Importance Of Issues In Special Education
Introduction
Special education creates opportunities for students, parents, teachers and related staff and
administrators to work together to improve educational results students with disabilities. IEPs and
504s are the plans that help educators to develop education for each student with disabilities. The IEP
is an important legal document that handles issues in special education properly. There are so many
rules that school personnel must follow. In this assignment, I will identify effective procedures for
documentation and remediation of the teacher, her behaviors and the allegations about her regarding a
special education student.
1) Detail all steps you would take relative to the complaint by Julia s parents. Identify any and all
steps and documentation necessary under your state s laws and district policies, as well as specify
what any documentation you should include and what you will do with it.
First, I would suggest the parent file to a formal complaint about the teachers if they feel the teacher is
treating Julia differently than every other student and singling her out. According to Washoe County
School District (WCSD) policy, student or parent must fill out the formal student complaint based on
allegations of discrimination. The WCSD board policy is specifically connected student issues and
parent complaints, not every concern or a complaint is covered under the WCSD policy and
procedures. Some complaint have their own policy and procedures to follow.

According to the study, by the Treatment Advocacy Center, psychiatric beds are now available at a
level equivalent to that of 1850 (Torrey et al., 2012), the point in history at which the treatment of the
mentally ill started to change with a shift to state run facilities.
One of the major consequences of this crisis is seen in jails and prisons around the nation that are
increasingly populated by individuals with untreated mental illness, with some facilities reporting that
one third or more of their inmates are severely mentally ill. (Torrey et al., 2012. p. 6). One measure of
the social and economic costs of this systemic failure is the remarkably high rate of recidivism and the
associated social fallout. In California close to 80% of all persons released from prison will return to a
state of incarceration within 1 3 years of release. An overwhelming number of these returning inmates
are doing so as a function of their failure to meet or carry out terms of release, not for the commission
of new crimes (Maxwell Royo, 2005). Economically speaking, a person incarcerated in a State Prison
in California costs the state on average $49,000 a year to house, feed and protect. Amplify that by the
latest number of prisoners in state facilities, approximately 119,000 and we arrive at the staggering
figure of $5,831,000,000, wasted funds that could have been spent in the community. Considering that

The contraception pill is significant in reducing pregnancy rates, but can be contentious when it comes

Play, By Marc Leblanc
When describing the characteristics of play, Huizinga (1995) pointed out that engaging in the activity
of play is not essential, yet engaging in the act of play is a voluntary activity. It is an activity that can
start and stop at any time and often carried out during leisure time. He also mentioned that play only
gets urgent when the enjoyment of play becomes a need. Thus, playing is enjoyable.
Games are compelling because it provides players several uses such as allowing players to pass time,
to procrastinate, to cheer oneself up or to play just for enjoyment (Phillips et al. 1995). As an
entertainment source, games allow people to enter a world of fantasy and escape the boredom of
reality (Sherry 2004).
Games are compelling because it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is goals which bestow these interactions its purpose (Costikyan 2002). Goals are a
stimulus in games which motivates players to interact with the game system further and furthermore.
These goals could be an explicit win state, a set of victory conditions or smaller goals that adds up to
the bigger objective in the game. Goals could be in numerical form such as getting the highest score or
in status form such as the development of a city. On the other hand, there are games that have no
explicit winning conditions. These are usually sand box games like Grand Theft Auto V or simulation
games like The Sims series, whereby players have a wide variety of goals to choose from or a wide
variety of possibilities to play with. Therefore, games are goal directed interactions that involves
decision making (Costikyan 2002), that are up to the player s discretion and the system of the game.
Games are compelling this way because each gameplay of the same game will be dfferent....
To make achieving goals in games a little more challenging for the players, games have the element of
struggle to make things interesting. Games would have a form of conflict, competition, challenge,
oppositions or even puzzles to make players to struggle interactively towards a goal (Costikyan 2002)

What Is Terezin Construction Camp
Terezin construction camp Esmeralda Lopez p.2 10.27.15 Terezin existed long before it was a camp
with a prison during world war. Terezin was build from 1780 to 1790. Terezin is still standing today
also Terezin was named after Emperor Joseph second after his mother Empress Maria Theresa. During

The other thing that Terezín is known for is its role during WWII. Under Nazi occupation, the large
camp became a ghetto for Jews transported from across the Reich Austria and Germany and the
protectorate Bohemia and Moravia. Later it also housed Jews from further afield including Belgium,
Holland and Russia. It was this ghetto that was dressed up to fool the international Red Cross as late as
1944 that Nazi Germany had its Jewish citizens interests at heart. International monitors were shown a

A Life Of Distress And Terror
A life of distress and terror lead the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia to start a protest movement for
their rights and faced critical challenges within it. The ethiopian government needs to end cracking
down Oromo protest with violence and mistreating the ethnic group simply because they are different.
The Ethiopian government has a blueprint to expand the lands in the capital, sounds like a great idea
for the counties eco and a profitable goal but that plan comes to contact with the Oromos treasured
land and coastline. News and protest broke out, placing the Oromos in a position of scares from the
government but also help them put their position spread in Ethiopia and America. Ethiopia is the
birthplace of the oldest human lucy and also the place I was born. I came to the U.S at age four and

Oromos and anyone who comes to conflict with this issue. The Ethiopian government is using
savagery action and targeting Oromos for their better good which is leading the Oromos to lose their
rights as citizens of the country. Thus making it wrongful and injustice for the people of Oromo and

Effect Of Stress On The Rail Ballast
Ahlbeck et al. (as cited in Sun Dhanasekar 2002)[4] point out that that stress distribution (stress
response) under concrete sleeper is Trapezoidal shape uniformly until the foundation as demonstrated
in Figure 2.1.1 and the stress distribution angle (internal friction angle) of the rail ballast has effect on
the stiffness the damping of the upper and the lower divisions of the rail ballast.
Based on this theory, Ahlbeck et al. initiated their model (Lumped mass model) which represents only
the vertical effect of the sleeper and the ballast as shown in Figure 2.1.2. This model cannot be used in
high frequency vibration[5]. Also, Ahlbeck et al. (as cited in Sun Dhanasekar 2002)[4] find formulas
for determining the stiffness value Kbl as well as the mass of the Trapezoidal part of the rail ballast
under a sleeper Mbl as: where θb is internal friction angle of the rail ballast (Ahlbeck et al.
recommended 20o), ρb is the rail ballast density, Eb is modulus of elasticity of the rail ballast in
N/m2,Bs, Ls, are width and length of the rail sleeper and Hb is the high of the rail ballast as shown in
Figure 2.1.1. Furthermore, Ahlbeck et al. (as cited in Sun Dhanasekar 2002)[4] determine the values
of sub ballast mass Msb, stiffness Ksb and subgrade stiffness Ksg as: where θsb is internal friction
angle of the sub ballast (35o as suggested by Ahlbeck et al.), ρsb is the sub ballast density, Esb is
modulus of elasticity of the sub ballast in N/m2, Esg is modulus of elasticity

A National Landmark, The Empire State Building The Empire State Building, starting when it was

reason people all over the world have come to see the famous building, they visit to learn about all of
the interesting structural facts and to truly understand why this building is so important. Although the
building now is very popular, it was not always so well attended due to certain costs associated with it,
but the building survived through this and so much more, which helped make it become significant to
the United States and it s history. The Empire State Building has become an essential emotional
landmark because of how the building was made, when it was built and what difficulties the
establishment has stood tall through. When the Empire State Building was constructed, the economy
of the United States was plummeting drastically, which affected the resources needed. Only about
three thousand workers ended up helping with the construction of the building, even though

Essay Wireless Area Networks
Wireless Area Networks
Wireless technology has become an increasingly crucial part of today s world. From health care and
retail to academia across the world, wireless systems are improving the rate and ease with which data
is sent and received. Two specific examples of the wireless technology used today personally and
professionally are local area networks (LAN) and personal area networks (PAN).
A wireless local area network, or LAN is a flexible data communications system implemented as an
augmentation to, or an alternative for a, wired local area network. These networks rely on
electromagnetic airwaves to transmit and receive over a defined area, usually a few hundred feet.
(Yahoo wireless) In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The key to making this possible is variation of frequencies. As long as concurrent frequencies are no
being broadcasted in a given area, it is possible to have any number of radio transmissions taking
place at a given time. One might ask with countless number of transmissions that could be occurring
at a given time how is it possible to focus on just one stream of data? The answer again is achieved
through radio frequency characteristics. Once data has been encoded into a given radio carrier, all one
has to do to extract the information is have a receiver tuned into one specific frequency, while
rejecting all others. These receiving and transmitting nodes are known as access points. In typical
wireless LAN settings, these access points are in the form of small rectangular transmitting stations.
Receiving access points, or LAN adapters, defined using 802.11EE coding, are implemented as PC
cards in notebooks, palm pilots, and desktops, or as additional access points that serve to extend the
area of the network. These adapters provide an interface between the network operating system and
the radio waves. (Rho Wireless/ Home Networking and Internet Connection Sharing)
Because wireless technology has its roots in military applications, all wireless systems contain varying
degrees of security for their users. More often then not each individual network with have a unique

Architecture During The Renaissance
The fifteenth and sixteenth century is a period of transition between the Medieval Ages and the
Modern Times. This period, called the Renaissance, had manifested itself in Italy. This movement,
which would have its repercussion in France, Spain, England, Germany, Switzerland, is characterized
by a series of political, economic, social and intellectual changes.
The Renaissance was a very important era for architecture because during the Renaissance,
architecture became so much more than just buildings. It was created because the Medieval Ages was
such a dark, depressing time. The people who lived in that area needed change. Architecture played a
vital role in Renaissance and the changes that happened. Without the changes of architecture that
happened during the Renaissance, it wouldn t be anything like what it is today. What led to the
Renaissance was, the Byzantine Empire had long since decayed. The beginnings of the crisis go back
to the capture of Constantinople by the crusaders in 1204. The Latin barons ruined the city which
never got up completely from this looting. In addition, the gap between the rich and the poor was
widening as state resources dwindled dangerously. Unable to defend his own frontiers, the emperor
had to buy peace from other sovereigns. He had to resolve to entrust the army to mercenaries. Soon
the Turks threatened the city. Besieged from 1394 to 1402, Constantinople was miraculously saved by
the Mongol invasion of Tamerlane. The respite was to fall short. The advent of an energetic Sultan,
Mehmet II, at the head of the Turkish army, precipitated the denouement. In 1453, a powerful
Ottoman army moved under the walls of the city. Constantinople finally falls under the pressure of
janissaries. The fall of Constantinople, apparently, did not upset the West: the Christian sovereigns left
the old Eastern Empire. However, this event had important consequences for the countries of Europe.
Many Byzantine prelates, artists and men of science fled to the West, including Italy. They brought
their knowledge, their ideas and their libraries of ancient manuscripts. Italian scientists and artists took
advantage of the knowledge accumulated in the East. They exerted a real pressure on the architects

Essay On A Streetcar Named Desire
Have you seen the plays Skin of Our Teeth, Home of the Brave, All My Sons, or Lost in the Stars?
Probably not. Why is it that today, it is still common to hear references to Stanley s STELL
LAHHHHH in a Streetcar Named Desire, while few other plays of the 1940s remain relevant? First,
Streetcar dared to delve into sensitive social topics, from mental illness to homosexuality to addiction,
and even mortality. Tennessee Williams story of a young couple, Stanley and Stella, whose seemingly
happy marriage is disrupted when Stella s sister, Blanche, comes to town and brings her disastrous
history with her, has captivated audiences throughout time with its highly developed characters,

To Blanche and Stanley, masculinity is defined purely by forceful actions and sexuality. Societal
pressures on men forced Stanley to grow up with little ability to express himself without the use of
force and a constant urge to display and promote his sexual prowess. Through the character of Stanley,
Williams highlights the pressure men feel to be aggressive and active in sex.
On the contrary, the expectations and double standards of society pressure Blanche to behave
prudently and conservatively, against her nature. Blanche admits to Stella the pressure she feels to
appear demure when she shares, It isn t enough to be soft. You ve got to be soft and attractive. And I I
m fading now! I don t know how much longer I can turn the trick (92). Throughout Blanche s stay
with her sister, it becomes apparent that though she desperately attempts to appear a quintessential
southern belle, it goes against her truest nature.
Beyond admitting she feels pressure to behave modestly, Blanche also lies about her alcohol use,
sexual past, and potential suitors. Her attempts to conceal her inappropriate behaviors make further
evident the pressure she feels to appear as dainty, pure and desirable as possible. After insisting to
Mitch that the stories about her are nothing but rumors, Blanche momentarily admits, Yes, I had many

Advantages Of Quantum Cryptography
Quantum Cryptography
Introduction
Quantum cryptography is a new method for secret communications offering the ultimate security
assurance of the inviolability of a Law of Nature. Unlike traditional classical cryptography, which uses
mathematical techniques to restrict eavesdroppers, quantum cryptography is focused on the physics of
information. The development of quantum cryptography be classified as either public key or secret
key methods. This cryptography also involving two or more parties who may not trust one another.
The best known cryptographic problem is the transmission of secret messages. Suppose wish to

Mathematical cryptography, as bad as it sometimes is, is the strongest link in most security chains.
Our symmetric and public key algorithms are pretty good, even though they re not based on much
rigorous mathematical theory. The real problems are elsewhere: computer security, network security,
user interface and so on.
Even quantum cryptography doesn t solve all of cryptography: The keys are exchanged with photons,
but a conventional mathematical algorithm takes over for the actual encryption.
Conclusion
Cryptography is used frequently. For example, credit card numbers are encrypted when you buy
something on the internet. Many government agencies are used cryptography to get messages safely
around the world. Public key cryptography is an innovation and which is an unavoidable part of
almost all security protocol and application. Being able to negotiate a shared secret between two

Stability In Any Family Is Important However, Building
Stability in any family is important however, building and maintaining stability in a blended family is
much harder due to the many variables a blended family faces. We will explore some of these
challenges and the results of them.
Living arrangements
Living arrangements can be one of the most challenging things for a blended/step family. There is the
need for everyone to feel that they have their own space when needed to just escape, while also having
a sense of inclusion for all the family members. The hardest thing here is when children go for

None of the data came from the other household. As a blended family, this is something that could
make capturing data tough. There are too many inconsistencies from each households and parenting
styles. (Heintz Martin, V., Entleitner Phleps, C., Langmeyer, A. N, 2015)
Study findings consisted of the difficulty of getting fathers to really participate in a family unit let
alone a stepfather. For this reason alone, it is common for the children to be a bit distance from the
stepfather. Were stepmothers being generally more involved in the day to day happenings. (Heintz
Martin, V., Entleitner Phleps, C., Langmeyer, A. N, 2015) This is something that is very present within
my own blended family. Though my husband and I have custody of all five of our children and we
have lived together for over ten years, my husband is much more distant from my daughter than I am
with his children. His children tend to find me as a go to person when they feel they can t go to either
of their own parents. At the end of the day everyone must do their part to make a family unit function.
Each person must fulfill their role so that all the puzzle pieces fit together.

The Extract By Junot Diaz Essay
The extract How to Date a Brown Girl by Junot Diaz basically explains a detailed instruction on how
to deal with females of different races. It is filled with gender stereotypes throughout the extract where
most of these stereotypes are not justified. The protagonist would like others to believe that he is a
girls man or girls dem sugar according to Beenie Man. Is he such a girls man if he is worried that a
girl would not turn up to a date? Is he a true girls man if he sees all the possible things that could go
wrong during the date?
One would argue that his views and stereotypes are all wrong and race does not determine
promiscuity. It is not fair to say that all white girls are open to explore their sexuality. It is not fair to
say that you are guaranteed to get a hand job from any white girl once you get her alone. One can
argue that all his views about women are due to what he heard and not based on his experience of
being a male.
Noting that most main stream pornographic movies are those of white women, maybe the notion that
white women are opened to their sexuality is not too far off. Maybe there is some truth behind this
stereotype, and maybe there is not any truth to it at all.
Within this extract, there are strong elements that suggest various degrees of respectability and
reputation, along with a very small aspect of sexual objectification of women. Today we see the
objectification of women in media ever so often that it becomes normal and almost

Previously, the company had a much compartmentalised approach to risk management, with

were hedged using futures contracts and under the supervision of the Financial Risk Management Unit
while traditional (hazard) risks were insured by its treasury Insurance Risk Management Unit.

Poverty And Its Effects On Society
Poverty is one of the concepts that are created through corruption. Poverty is defined as a situation in
which a person s income is inadequate to provide the necessities of life. This is apparent through the

or else they will be killed or harmed in other ways. The companies such as Van De Kaap are
exploiting workers as they are able to mine diamonds through free labour. Solomon Vandy, one of the

with this, how can they start a family and have the proper materials to live a better life? Lack of food
and education are problems that these miners in this country face.
In terms of mining diamonds on small scale, they are generally unregulated activity and often has no
laws since they the work is done independently and privately rather than through a formal company.
Many of these miners do not have a license nor have access to global markets thus limiting their
bargaining power and having limited to no leverage thus forcing them to sell the diamonds to middle
men which are way below market prices. (Brilliant Earth, 2016)

reason for this is because those that mine the diamonds are paid so little thus belonging in the lower

by Russell Crowe, in the beginning we see how the people look at Maximus when he appears and
some have a very relieved expression on their faces while others have very happy faces. This already
tells me that Maximus is a very respected man and throughout the movie he is portrayed as a noble
man, with noble traits and a soldier who knows of no limits when it comes to protecting either his men
or his people. This has led me to believe that Maximus is the tragic hero in Gladiator, the reason being
is because according to Aristotle, a greek philosopher and scientist, there are 5 common traits to be a
tragic hero. 5 traits which Maximus meets throughout

Pro-Life vs. Pro-Choice Essay examples
This article is another piece of written truth as to how one s social upbringing reflects their views and
opinions. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The average pro life activist tends to be a lesser educated
individual who grew up seeing family life as a root to all means. Her parents were of a lower income
bracket, barely finished high school, and more that likely her parents provided many siblings. She wed
directly out of high school to a low income white collar worked and has many children herself. The
pro life activist believes strongly in the church and the fact that the main purpose of sexuality is
procreation. These women were raised to believe that motherhood is the single most rewarding role
for a woman. When they become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; When comparing the two views of these activists, it is clear to see how
one s social upbringing will effect their views. Pro life supporters have always been exposed to the
idea that no matter what, there is always room for another child in their home. They have seen their
mother as being the homemaker and caregiver for all family members. These supporters feel it is their
place in society to provide the nurturing for the rest of the family while the male is the working mate
of the two and not matter how financially set they are, they will find a way to provide. nbsp; nbsp;
nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Pro choice supporters on the other hand have been raised in a higher social class
where more than likely both parents, but at least the father, have a college degree. They have pursued
college and have married mate equal to themselves. They share beliefs with their mates that they are
equal beings and want to give their children the best they can. Hence the fact, they would rather not
bring a child into the world without being able to fully provide for the child the way they were
provided for. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; One can gather from this article that pro life supporters,
since raised without a lot of financial stability and are unable to provide much for themselves, are
unable to see the reasoning to

The Importance Of Information On The Internet Of Things
The Internet of Things speeds up awareness and response to events. It has a wide domain of
application for instance in industries such as manufacturing, transportation and public sectors, faster
response time not only improves the output, it also decreases the occurrence of a hazard.
Taking an example of any factory, a temperature sensor deployed on critical machines on the floor can
send readings before a failure is about to happen and action can be taken before in hand. Likewise,
deploying a sensor on oil pipelines can raise an alert and slow down or stop the pumping of oil as a
response to the alert which can help prevent a huge loss. Now that we understand how important it is
to harvest upon the IoT, we need a new kind of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sends selected data to the cloud for historical analysis and longer term storage. Analyzing the IoT data
close to where it is collected minimizes latency. It reduces gigabytes of network traffic load from the
core network and keeps the sensitive information within the network.
1.5 Concept of Fog Computing:
The fog extends the cloud to be closer to the things that produce and act on IoT data. These devices,
called fog nodes, can be deployed anywhere with a network connection: on a factory floor, on top of a
power pole, alongside a railway track, in a vehicle, or on an oil rig. Any device with computing,
storage, and network connectivity can be a fog node. Examples include industrial controllers,
switches, routers, embedded servers, and video surveillance cameras. IDC estimates that the amount
of data analyzed on devices that are physically close to the Internet of Things is approaching 40
percent.
Fog computing, also known as fogging/edge computing, it is a model in which data, processing and
applications are concentrated in devices at the network edge rather than existing almost entirely in the
cloud.
Fog computing offers many key

Interest Rate Risk
Interest Rate Risk (IRR) Management
What is Interest Rate Risk :
Interest rate risk is the risk where changes in market interest rates might adversely affect a bank s
financial condition. The management of Interest Rate Risk should be one of the critical components of
market risk management in banks. The regulatory restrictions in the past had greatly reduced many of
the risks in the banking system. Deregulation of interest rates has, however, exposed them to the
adverse impacts of interest rate risk.
What is the Impact of IRR: The immediate impact of changes in interest rates is on the Net Interest
Income (NII). A long term impact of changing interest rates is on the bank s networth since the
economic value of a bank s assets, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These policies should be applied on a consolidated basis and, as appropriate, at the level of individual

Principle 6: It is essential that banks have interest rate risk measurement systems that capture all
material sources of interest rate risk and that assess the effect of interest rate changes in ways that are
consistent with the scope of their activities. The assumptions underlying the system should be clearly

Overly Promiscuous Behavior
Following her parasuicidality symptom, Susanna also had the symptom of overly promiscuous
behavior. During high school, she spent the majority of her time solely focusing on her love for
literature and her various boyfriends. She describes herself as having boyfriends by the barrelful
(Kaysen 155). A statement that was greatly backed up by both her parents and teachers who would
often question her on why she didn t expend as much energy on [her] schoolwork as [she] does on
[her] boyfriends (Kaysen 153). From Susanna s account she craved flattery which played a part in why
she set her pursuits in having many boyfriends as she liked the attention and flattery that they gave
her. This poses a problem with her ability to function as it showcases ... Show more content on

Aside from being sent to McLean for her suicide attempt she was also sent there because of her
overriding emotion of exhaustion. The seemingly smallest tasks of walking through a door and going
several blocks to wait for a train rendered her weak (Kaysen 8). She was too tired to deal with
anything whether it was working at her job or dealing with her boyfriend. Thus her overriding emotion
for her life before being institutionalized was exhaustion. Her great loss of energy even played a role
in how quick she was sent to McLean. As when she first went to meet the physician who later sends
her to the psychiatric hospital in a taxi she thinks about escaping from his office (Kaysen 8). Although
just the effort that it would take to move her body and escape affected her ability to move as her
depression left her exhausted mentally and physically. Thus, she follows suit with the orders from the
physician as he pushes her into a taxi off to

Black Hat Or Devil s Advocate Process
Black Hat or Devil s Advocate Process
The best solution to the dissatisfaction that is caused when a title is held and not sent to the payoff
dealer in a timely manner is to create a dealer notification process. This process will consist of
contacting the dealer by phone, email or fax to notify them of the accounts that have a title on hold for
missing odometer statement. The solution should be implemented because it is quick to implement,
will have a low cost to implement and will have a big impact on the issue. If the dealers are notified as
soon as the title is placed on hold they can fax or email the odometer to the Title Services and Support
department immediately. The Title Services and Support department will be able to deliver the title to
the dealer a timely manner.
If this solution is implemented one impact that could go wrong is that the dealers could become
frustrated with BMW Financial Services if the Title Services and Support department does not notify
them of an account that is on hold or the dealer could become frustrated if the Title Services and
Support department contacts them to many times about an account that is on hold. A weakness and
risk of the solution are keeping the BMW dealer group contact information up to date. The Title
Services and Support department will need to be in constant communication with the BMW Group
dealers to ensure they are calling, emailing or faxing the request for odometer statements to the correct
contact.

The Positive And Negative Effects Of Anti-Smoking Campaigns
Did you know that almost 20% of adults in the United States smokes cigarettes? Cigarette smoke
contains around 4,800 chemicals, and 69 of these chemicals can cause cancer. The effects of using
tobacco are wide and varied, but all of them are dangerous to every user s health. Cigarette smoking is
the number one cause of death in the United States, and it is an easily reversible statistic. All anti
smoking ads gives a choice on whether to smoke or not and there s a significant percentage that still
chooses to do so. Anti smoking campaigns can either promote or prevent smoking and the negative bi
products of smoke inhalation in various ways. This provides a discussion of the negative and positive
impacts of anti smoking ads. Anti smoking ads aren t as effective as they should be, and most ads are
just put in place to place that fear factor in the viewers.
Most times the campaign has to hit harder with facts instead of a graphic depiction of what smoking
leads too. The image is created to get a reaction out of the audience. Whether its smokers or non
smokers, the point is to convey to the dangerous of smoking. The ad will either increase the distaste of
smoking and its negative effects or they will be brushed off because it has or is little effect on them or
their everyday life. It is not always safe to say that because the ad is good it will lead the people that
do smoke to stop.
To them it may remind them that yes, they are harming their bodies but at the end of the day

Analyzing Kevin Michael Rudd s Speech Sorry
On Wednesday, 13 February 2008, the Federal Parliament of Australia was filled with hundred of
parliamentarians and the representatives of the Indigenous community. The 26th Australian Prime
Minister, Kevin Michael Rudd who is an English Irish man, astonishing and surprising the whole of
Australian citizens by delivering a speech entitled Sorry . He received a standing ovation as he entered
the hall before he delivered his remarkable speech. His speech is an official apology on behalf of the
Australian government to the Aboriginals, but in particular it is directed to the stolen generation.
Between the year of 1910 and 1970, over 100.000 children were forcibly taken from their Aboriginal
parents. They were either raised in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Stiff (1994), listeners will have confidence in you and your words if they think you care
about their welfare, and have a good character. Another persuasive speaking that applied to the speech
is Pathos. Pathos is an emotion of sympathetic pity and how you evoking emotions to your audience.
(Dlugan, 2010) In the speech, it is obvious to see that Rudd was emotionally touched and sad about
the tragedy that happened in the past. By seeing the fact, it was the real life example; it does bring him
emotionally into the situation. To the stolen generations, I say the following: as Prime Minister of
Australia, I am sorry. On behalf of the government of Australia, I am Sorry (Rudd, 2008). According
to Cockroft Cockroft (2005, p.182), repetition is the major resource of schematic rhetoric and it is the
spontaneous expression of emotion. In the speech, Rudd often mentioned the word Sorry and Future .
Repetition is an effective technique that Rudd used during the speech. It is used successfully to
maintain the situation and grabbing the attention of audience. Speaking as a third person, the word We
are sorry that been repeated by Rudd during the speech are not referring only to the speakers but also
to the nation.
On my point of view, I agree on how Rudd has taken the right choice and I was also fascinated by his
courage to apologize to the public for the better future of his citizens. However, I did search about the
stolen generation and

Deaf Meeting Reflection
I walked into a room full of strange faces. No one bothered to look at me because they were so caught
up in their own conversations. There were multiple conversations going around while the room was
dead silent. Some people were signing about politics, how their day were going, and the new
upcoming events they were going to host. Each person had different facial expressions, which was so
intriguing; I simply could not focus on one person. As I looked around I saw all of the desks against
the wall and a big empty space between everyone. Representation was an important factor because
there was a huge bright poster that had several people demonstrating the proper way to sign the letters
of the alphabet. On the other side of the room they had the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Therefore, I proceeded to ask Are you proud of your culture? Adrian s hands started to sign quickly

that unless I put on my earphones and have my music on full blast. He then continued, One of the
most interesting phenomenon of society is language. In my point of view I love how my culture uses
hand signs and body gestures in order to communicate. Many deaf people are proud of their roots
because all cultures have their own set of behaviors that are acceptable. For the deaf community, it
includes getting someone s attention appropriately and using direct eye contact. Though deaf people
face many struggles and judgement here in the United States, many deaf individuals refuse to get a
cochlear implant because they believe that they might lose an essential part of themselves, the identity
of being deaf. Deafness allows the deaf community to come together as a family; therefore, the

The Influence Of Western Culture In Disney s Aladdin
Even the most seemingly harmless of __ can change the way we treat peopl. In Aladdin, Aladdin is a
street rat until he finds a magic genie lamp, which can grant him three of his wishes. However, the
villain Jafar, who put him up to finding the lamp, has a different idea for its uses. In the end, Aladdin
has to save Princess Jasmine and the city of Agrabah with the influential help of the genie from Jafar
and his evil forces. In Disney s Aladdin, the culture in Agrabah is presented through an orientalist
lense, suggesting the population in Agrabah needs, wants, and would be better off with the influence
of western culture; this representation is in order for Disney to justify the United States cultural
colonization.

At the end of the film, after Jasmine and Aladdin defeat Jafar with the help of the genie, they thank the
genie for all of his help. Then, Aladdin and Jasmine ride off into the sunset on their magic carpet.
When the couple disappears from sight, the moon turns around, laughing, and it is the face of the
genie. The genie not only represents western culture, but he represents the person in western culture
who has power. He demonstrates this because he his the moon looking down over his domain.
Additionally, the colonialist discourse has an element of justification on their action for helping the
colonized people. They believe that it is their duty to help them. Thus, when the genie is the moon, he
represents the contentment the colonizers have over supposedly helping the colonized. The genie
helped the people in the Orient obtain what they want. For example, Aladdin obtains everything he
wants because he gets Jasmine s affections and he is no longer poor. Additionally, he and Jasmine sing
a whole new world for you and me as they ride into the sunset, which signifies that they have been
exposed to the culture because together they have experienced a whole new world. Disney suggests
that their objet petit a is to have this influence of new cultures and to experience a whole new

  • 2. Technological Improvements and Their Impact in America Essay Improvements in agriculture, transportation, and communication between 1790 and 1860 were the stepping stones for a greater America. From the cotton gin, to the steamboat, to the telegraph, new innovations were appearing all over. America had finally begun to spread its wings and fly. Due to the fact that cotton had to be separated by hand, it was costly commodity. One person could barely separate a pound by hand over the course of a day. It was not until 1793, when Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin that production of cotton soared. A worker on a plantation could now produce fifty pounds of cotton a day, instead of just one. With the increase in cotton production, came the increase in slave labor, which was used to harvest the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After fiddling with his horse drawn machine for almost a decade, he was ready to market it. His product sold so fast, that in 1847, he relocated to Chicago and built a manufacturing plant for his reapers and mowers. He had sold thousands of machines within a few years, positively altering the scale of agriculture. ?Using a hand held sickle, a farmer could harvest half an acre of wheat a day, with a McCormick reaper two people could work twelve acres a day.? (Tindall, 420) Transportation also saw some advancements just as agriculture did. In 1795, the Wilderness Road was opened to wagon and stagecoach traffic. The introduction of this road eased the journey through the Cumberland Gap into Kentucky and along the Walton roads into Tennessee. After completion of the Philadelphia Lancaster Turnpike in 1794, a movement for graded and paved roads in the northeast gathered momentum. By 1831, around four thousand miles of turnpikes had been completed, mostly connecting the eastern cities. At the same time, new developments in water transportation were made that included the river steamboat and the canal barge, which carried people and commodities for a lower price than the wagons on the National Road. The Clermont, sent up the Hudson River to Albany by Robert Fulton and Robert R. Livingston, was the first commercially successful steamboat. Thereafter, steamboat usage spread rapidly to other eastern rivers as well as to the Ohio ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Character Analysis Of Crooks And Curley s Wife The characters Crooks and Curley s wife seem to be solitary, and the author explains the reasons for their loneliness. For example, in a part of the book we see Crooks asking Curley s wife to go back to her house, before he and the rest of the guys get in trouble for being with her she said Well, I ain t giving you no trouble. Think i don t like to talk to somebody ever once in a while? Think I like to stick in that house alla time? (Steinbeck 77). This shows that the boys try to stay away from Curley s wife because they don t want her husband to think that there is something going on between one of them and her, leaving her lonesome. This also clarifies the nature of her isolation because she says that she likes to talk to someone else than just Curley and that she enjoys going out of the house when Curley is not there, and gives a sense of indignation as she is trying to defend her reasonings for talking to the boys, this statement leave us to question about Curley s personality and give us an idea of how jealous and violent he can be for the boys to be afraid. In contrast to this, Crooks story is different, Crooks was a proud, aloof man. He kept his distance and demanded that other people keep theirs... Noiselessly Lennie appeared in the open doorway and stood there looking in... Crooks said sharply, You got no right to come in my room. This here s my room. Nobody got any right in here but me (Steinbeck 67 68). This quote proves that Crooks is proud of him being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Davis Guggenheim Documentary Analysis What are you grateful for? What matters most for you? Is it money, is it family? Have you thought about education and its big role it plays to get you to a future you want and will like? In this well written documentary directed by Davis Guggenheim, the question of the matter is the American education system, and its backlash on poverty and areas of need. He follows a couple unlikely kids and their struggle to get into a average school and how failure to just get into a school like this is the downfall of someone s future career. This documentary relates so well to previous reads and watches about the American education system. Involving speeches like Sir Ken Robinson and the book Re reading America, in correlation with Guggenheim s piece of work. This portrayal of education depicts harrowing stories of how some kids growing up in places where education is non existent and failure is common. He uses an array of techniques to capture to attention of the audience and change their perception of opinions. And he does this through the use of pathos, but in the work of that pathos he builds it with the help of music and tone. These emotions certainly grab the audience s attention and beliefs, and uses it to express the opinion and characteristic of the topic argument. Within Guggenheim s excellent piece of work there are key components that give his artwork a more visual and thorough meaning along with the story. To start off, Guggenheim s documentary was charismatic and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. War Of The Worlds Conflict The War of the Worlds is a fictional novel written by H.G Wells in the year 1898. It was one of the first stories that shows a scenario of conflict between the human race and extraterrestrials. It was published by Dover Publications, Inc with a copyright date set in 1997. The book has 145 pages. The story takes place in London, England in the final years of the 19th century. The conflict is external(man vs man) and towards the end of the story, becomes internal(man vs self). All is normal in London when a missile is seen flying through space with its origins from Mars. Before we know it, Martians are wreaking havoc throughout London. Later the main character starts to think of the future for the human race, and struggles with his sanity. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most important and critical decisions made was the martian s decision to get rid of bacteria on their planet thousands of years before. Doing this, their bodies had no need for a resistance against bacteria. This made the martians very susceptible and vulnerable to disease and viruses contracted from Earth. Humans have gained a strong resistance over millions of years, because bacteria and disease has been around since the beginning of time. these germs of disease have taken poll of humanity since the beginning of things taken tool of our pre human ancestors since life began here. But by virtue of this natural selection of our kind we have developed resisting power; to no germs do we succumb without a struggle, and to many does that cause putrefaction in that matter, for instance our living frames are altogether immune. But there are no bacteria on Mars... (Wells 137). If the martians had been prepared for this situation, Earth surely would have been doomed, and under control of the martian pioneers. Wells truly was one of the most creative writers of his time. In the late 1800s there were no other writings of extraterrestrials like this one. This book really makes the reader begin to wonder about the mysteries of life in space, and if humans really are the top of the food chain. Especially during the time it was written in. This book is every science fiction lover s dream. It shows the possibility of there being a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Crisis Of The United States The 2008 so called Great Recession was a time that was tough on a great deal of americans as well as people all around of the world. The shock was the popping of the housing bubble. After the great burst, the financial situation of the country began to spiral out of control. Unemployment skyrocketed. Millions of Americans were laid off. The inflation rate plummeted to an extremely unhealthy amount. This was strange because the United States had recently spent decades working to lower inflation rate. They finally received what they wanted and much more. The consumer price index also eventually crashed as well. A big reason for these crashes were civilian reactions to the bursted housing bubbles. The United States took several actions to recover from the crisis. They worked at lowering mortgage interest rates and also passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. They also bailed out huge failing banks like AIG. We took many actions that eventually paid off and pulled us out of the recession. The housing market had raising prices that economists thought was just steady growth. However, once the prices began to drop people grew fearful and stopped buying. This totally through the market off and it crashed. The country from there financially spiraled out of control. The cause for this bubble and the bursting of it can be attributed to banking that was irresponsible to say the least. • 8. A Weekend at a NASCAR Event Essay A Weekend at NASCAR As most people are aware, NASCAR is the fastest growing sport in America. NASCAR, or the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, has become a national phenomenon and is attended by millions of Americans of year. The NASCAR season begins in February at the speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, and runs until November where it concludes at the final race in Homestead, Florida. The season consists of 36 races at tracks throughout the United States. Some tracks, such as Daytona and Texas, sponsor two races each season. So what is the appeal for so many people? THE FAN One of the first things a real NASCAR fan does is to choose their favorite driver to cheer for. Without choosing a driver, a NASCAR race is just a bunch of cars going fast around the track. Not choosing a driver would be like attending a football game and not having a favorite team. You re just not invested. A real fan will also use a track scanner, which is a radio that allows you to hear the conversations between the driver and crew chief, as well as his spotter. If you don t have one, they are available to rent at the track. A radio or scanner also helps you stay abreast of what s happening on the track. Since these cars are moving at speeds of 150 to 200 miles per hour, there are the inevitable crashes, so the scanner helps you to know what happened. GENERAL ATMOSPHERE The atmosphere is electric. It s hard to imagine that a single race can bring more than 200,000 people! The track at Texas Motor Speedway is very fan friendly in that fans can bring small coolers for their drinks and food. This is unlike the food concessions at other sporting events where you are forced to fork over $5.00 for a hot dog. The only limitation is no glass bottles. The fans are very friendly and everyone seems to get along well. There seems to be a genuine kinship and camaraderie among NASCAR fans. Taoism is also termed Daoism in the more common language system, called Hanyu Pinyin, representing Chinese letters using Roman letters and is more commonly used amongst China and around the world. Like the Christian faith, they too use a sacred book, Tao Te Ching written by the great Sage, Lao Tzu as a guidance. This text has been translated almost as much as the Christian Holy Bible it. It consists of 81 poems or chapters that are quite broad and vague and because of this, it can be interpreted and applied universally. It speaks of possible inner greatness but also the ... He is not arrogant and careless to such political affairs, does not seek fame, and does not discriminate opposites but embraces them. The sage is indifferent to success or failure. He understands that life driven by self centered ambition will never make sense, no matter how successful you are or with how many positive externals you care to adorn it. When one does not let nature take its course, one may fail. He understands that one may very much succeed but also has the ability to very much fail. To be a sage is to be a man of peace. One avoids conflict, and steers away from violence. One is not intimidated of death nor does one fear death. Life itself acquires meaning only when one satisfies ones spiritual needs by living in total harmony with the Tao. He must seek Supreme Ultimate which is the sum of all specific principles. • 10. Essay about White People and Black Man Crash. It is the perfect analogy of how we as a human race deal with life, people and our own experiences. Physical characteristics and racial differences may be interpreted as two distinguishing traits that separate us. I think it s what keeps us apart. That leaves several abstract questions that the film Crash illustrates. What are the origins of personal prejudice? Do individual experiences fuel standing stereotypes? Is it easier to perpetuate existing stereotypes because things will never change? Can people battle internal struggles within their own ethnic group? What prohibits us from overcoming these prejudices? The writers of the Crash managed to extend my viewing experience beyond the 90 minute film, thus forcing me to analyze my ... Sandra Bullock s character made the statement about the relationship between white and black people: If a white woman sees two black men walking towards her and turns the other way, she s a racist. Well I got scared and didn t say anything, and the next thing I knew, I had a gun shoved in my head! Perhaps stereotypes like that have maintained their prevalence because there are so many people that perpetuate them. It is often believed that all young black men are destined to be thugs, criminals and drug dealers. Additionally it is a common statistic that the majority of incarcerated males are African American. As a young black man, it must be difficult to break free of that stereotype. Things will never change. That attitude along with the perpetuation of existing stereotypes may be largely responsible for negative racial longevity. Ludacris character was one of the most interesting to me. Here was this articulate young black man that spent his life stealing cars from white people. Rap music is the music of the oppressor, he said. It is often easier to blame others for your shortcomings than it is to confront them head on. On the reverse, trouble facing stereotypes can occur anywhere. They are not simply restricted to skin tone and neighborhoods. Racial discrimination transpires through social class as well. This creates division within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Eleanor Roosevelt And His Life Eleanor Roosevelt was born October 11, 1884 in New York City to father Elliot Roosevelt and mother Anna Rebecca Hall. Eleanor s mother was a debutante who was disappointed in Eleanor s looks. It is even reported that she called her granny (Ward,1). Her mother died when she was 8 leaving her to be raised by her father. Elliot Roosevelt suffered from alcoholism and a narcotic addiction. He was often not allowed to see her due to this condition and was committed to an asylum in France in 1890( biography, 2). Her father also died when she was almost 10 years old. She was then sent, along with her brother, to live with her maternal grandmother. This relationship was more out of duty than love. As Eleanor grew up she learned three lessons she was unattractive; no one s love for her was likely to last; and those whom she counted most could be counted on to let her down. ( Ward,1). She found she enjoyed helping others and found it an escape from her problems. At age 15 she began school outside of London at Allenswood School. The founder, Marie Souvestre, of this school called Eleanor the most amiable girl I have ever met (Cook, 110). She introduced Eleanor to helping people in need and taught her to think for herself. Mare also took her traveling and showed her many impoverish countries. Before going to Allenswood Eleanor went to a Covent School in Italy and prior to that was tutored by Frederic Roser. • 12. Genetic Disorder Project I remember when I was a little girl that I would go to the doctor a lot. I had quite a few medical issues and recall being sick or not feeling well quite often. My parents would get worried because they didn t quite know what was wrong or how to deal with what I was going through. They could tell that something wasn t right, but they hadn t encountered a situation like this before so we went to many different doctors in an attempt to figure out what I had. Finally, after many doctors and many tests, they told my parents that I had Wilson s disease. Being that I was only eight years old at the time, I didn t know what this meant but my mom suddenly remembered that there was an instance of this disease in the family, with her grandmother struggling from it her whole life. Through the years, I have learned a lot about the condition that I am dealing with. Now, at 34 years old, I have a better understand of exactly what it is. According to research, it is classified as a single gene defect that occurs as a result of a mutated protein. What happens specifically is that there is an abundance of copper, which spreads to different parts of the body such as the liver and the brain. As we know, the liver and the brain are two incredibly important organs in our body, which play a crucial role in how we operate. Therefore the copper has a significant detrimental impact on my overall health and well being. Before I was given the official diagnosis by the doctor, what really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Death Of Latin American Culture Death in Latin American Culture Death is part of life in every part of the world, and every culture handles it differently. Just like every other region in the world, the approaches to death in Latin America are unique to the area, and have changed over the years. The Pre Colonial death rituals in Mexico, Peru, and Haiti each have their own method of addressing this inevitable tragedy. Never the less there are common threads throughout the Aztec, Inca, and Taino peoples. When the Europeans arrived in the Americas the beliefs and assumptions surrounding death changed, along with the rest of the cultural landscape. This tumultuous time eventually led to a very unique heritage for the modern people of Mexico, Peru, and Haiti. The infamous Aztec empire ruled the Mesoamerica through terror and religious wars from the 14th century to the 16th century. Their capital was the floating city of Tenochtitlan that was founded around 1325 until it the Aztecs were conquered by the Spanish in 1521 (Hilary Dockray, The Aztec Perspective on Death and Afterlife.) Unlike the Christian Europeans, the Aztecs did not fear death. ...the Aztecs saw their lives as being. They did not fear death as the harbinger of judgment, resulting in condemnation or reward. Not only was Grace Kelly a famous movie star with flawless looks and style, but she was also a philanthropist, a mother and a princess. Now, this is a rather impressive list of qualities that seems as if it were a fairy tale, a wish list that a child may put together on their eighth birthday party, and wish for as they blew out the candle. The only thing is that this was a reality for Grace Kelly in the 1950s until she passed away in the 1980s, this is also true for Blake Lively aside from the fact that she is not actually married to a prince. Blake Lively picked up where Grace Kelly left off, making Blake the new queen of poise and grace. Grace Kelly is still a role model during this time, people still compare a lot of actresses to her and designers are still trying to embody her essence in clothing, but now Blake has moved in. Grace Kelly was the role model of her era and set the tone for the future, and now Blake Lively is the Grace Kelly of our era, and will be setting the tone for the future just as her predecessor did. • 15. How Red Effects Human Emotion and Behavior Essay There is an influence constantly working on our minds, one that we may not have even noticed. It follows us everywhere, and we can t escape it no matter how hard we try. It doesn t make a sound or move, it just silently hides in plain sight effecting the way we think. Colors are one of the most effective yet least thought about influences on our minds. How come seemingly every super hero has a red suit? Or why are the super villains always wearing black? Why are hospitals never painted red, and most businesses have white, yellow, and red for their logo colors? The most emotionally intense color is arguably red. If one competitor is weak and another is strong, wearing red won t change that. But the closer the levels of the two players, the more the color will have an influence on the other opponent (Ahmed Abdul Sherif). Having red as a team color can make the other team feel anxious, cause them to make more mistakes, and even feel guilt or hatred while in the game. Pink, a lighter shade of red, has a slightly different effect. Though still a shade of red, it has a dramatic difference in how it can make us feel. Pink sneaks in feeling of love, serenity, and can drain energy. Which is why often times teams paint their opponents locker rooms pink, in hopes to make them a little more relaxed and drained before games. Clothing A study at University of Rochester was done on how the color red can effect how men think of women. In the first test, they held up one of two pictures. Both were pictures of the same woman, but she was wearing red in one, and blue in the other. In the second test, they held up one of two pictures as well. The two pictures were exactly alike, but one had a red border around the picture, and the other had black. On average 85% of the men said the woman with either the red border or the red shirt was more attractive. They also said they would be willing to do more for and spend more on the woman in red (someone). This wasn t the case when asked which woman looked more intellectual. • 16. Student s Performance Gap Between Students And Students Introduction Academic institutions are always trying to improve the grades of their students. They are researching if a smaller classroom setting will improve the grades of their students overall. This is important because these institutions want their students to graduate in the typical four years. In another study, a small classroom setting is important during adolescence because a child develops social behaviors which later affect his or her level of learning (Cappella, 2012). Another researcher presented how students who were struggling in school benefitted from a smaller classroom and this closed the achievement gap between students (Bosworth, 2014). Also, one study reported that class size had no effect when it came to a student s performance when they were in middle school, but there is an effect when the students are in elementary school (Vaag, 2013). Students in a smaller class will have a higher grade compared to a students in a larger class. Method Participants Participants were nationally sampled from nine introductory psychology courses including each grade level, freshman through seniors. While both male and female students are included in the sample the female population is 68% of the sample size which is made up of 488 students from smaller classes and 879 students from larger classes across the country. IEPs and 504s are the plans that help educators to develop education for each student with disabilities. The IEP is an important legal document that handles issues in special education properly. There are so many rules that school personnel must follow. In this assignment, I will identify effective procedures for documentation and remediation of the teacher, her behaviors and the allegations about her regarding a special education student. 1) Detail all steps you would take relative to the complaint by Julia s parents. Identify any and all steps and documentation necessary under your state s laws and district policies, as well as specify what any documentation you should include and what you will do with it. First, I would suggest the parent file to a formal complaint about the teachers if they feel the teacher is treating Julia differently than every other student and singling her out. According to Washoe County School District (WCSD) policy, student or parent must fill out the formal student complaint based on allegations of discrimination. According to the study, by the Treatment Advocacy Center, psychiatric beds are now available at a level equivalent to that of 1850 (Torrey et al., 2012), the point in history at which the treatment of the mentally ill started to change with a shift to state run facilities. One of the major consequences of this crisis is seen in jails and prisons around the nation that are increasingly populated by individuals with untreated mental illness, with some facilities reporting that one third or more of their inmates are severely mentally ill. (Torrey et al., 2012. p. 6). One measure of the social and economic costs of this systemic failure is the remarkably high rate of recidivism and the associated social fallout. In California close to 80% of all persons released from prison will return to a state of incarceration within 1 3 years of release. An overwhelming number of these returning inmates are doing so as a function of their failure to meet or carry out terms of release, not for the commission of new crimes (Maxwell Royo, 2005). Economically speaking, a person incarcerated in a State Prison in California costs the state on average $49,000 a year to house, feed and protect. Amplify that by the latest number of prisoners in state facilities, approximately 119,000 and we arrive at the staggering figure of $5,831,000,000, wasted funds that could have been spent in the community. Play, By Marc Leblanc When describing the characteristics of play, Huizinga (1995) pointed out that engaging in the activity of play is not essential, yet engaging in the act of play is a voluntary activity. It is an activity that can start and stop at any time and often carried out during leisure time. He also mentioned that play only gets urgent when the enjoyment of play becomes a need. Thus, playing is enjoyable. Games are compelling because it provides players several uses such as allowing players to pass time, to procrastinate, to cheer oneself up or to play just for enjoyment (Phillips et al. 1995). The answer again is achieved through radio frequency characteristics. Once data has been encoded into a given radio carrier, all one has to do to extract the information is have a receiver tuned into one specific frequency, while rejecting all others. • 27. Architecture During The Renaissance The fifteenth and sixteenth century is a period of transition between the Medieval Ages and the Modern Times. This period, called the Renaissance, had manifested itself in Italy. This movement, which would have its repercussion in France, Spain, England, Germany, Switzerland, is characterized by a series of political, economic, social and intellectual changes. The Renaissance was a very important era for architecture because during the Renaissance, architecture became so much more than just buildings. It was created because the Medieval Ages was such a dark, depressing time. The people who lived in that area needed change. Architecture played a vital role in Renaissance and the changes that happened. Without the changes of architecture that happened during the Renaissance, it wouldn t be anything like what it is today. What led to the Renaissance was, the Byzantine Empire had long since decayed. The beginnings of the crisis go back to the capture of Constantinople by the crusaders in 1204. The Latin barons ruined the city which never got up completely from this looting. In addition, the gap between the rich and the poor was widening as state resources dwindled dangerously. Unable to defend his own frontiers, the emperor had to buy peace from other sovereigns. He had to resolve to entrust the army to mercenaries. Soon the Turks threatened the city. Besieged from 1394 to 1402, Constantinople was miraculously saved by the Mongol invasion of Tamerlane. The respite was to fall short. The advent of an energetic Sultan, Mehmet II, at the head of the Turkish army, precipitated the denouement. In 1453, a powerful Ottoman army moved under the walls of the city. Constantinople finally falls under the pressure of janissaries. The fall of Constantinople, apparently, did not upset the West: the Christian sovereigns left the old Eastern Empire. However, this event had important consequences for the countries of Europe. Many Byzantine prelates, artists and men of science fled to the West, including Italy. It is filled with gender stereotypes throughout the extract where most of these stereotypes are not justified. The protagonist would like others to believe that he is a girls man or girls dem sugar according to Beenie Man. Is he such a girls man if he is worried that a girl would not turn up to a date? Is he a true girls man if he sees all the possible things that could go wrong during the date? One would argue that his views and stereotypes are all wrong and race does not determine promiscuity. It is not fair to say that all white girls are open to explore their sexuality. It is not fair to say that you are guaranteed to get a hand job from any white girl once you get her alone. One can argue that all his views about women are due to what he heard and not based on his experience of being a male. Noting that most main stream pornographic movies are those of white women, maybe the notion that white women are opened to their sexuality is not too far off. Maybe there is some truth behind this stereotype, and maybe there is not any truth to it at all.
