Red Bull Essay
Red Bull Energy Drink
I. RED BULL S HISTORY. Corporate legend has it that in the early 1980s, while traveling to Asia on
business, Austrian Dietrich Mateschiz came across some very popular energy drinks . With his (self
describe) uncanny instinct for successful product innovations , he schlepped a small sample of energy
beverages back to Europe along with a big idea. Then with a clear vision and a lot of scientific know
how, Dietrich (and what was surely several unnamed food scientists) gave birth to the Red Bull
Energy Drink.
In 1997, Red Bull sold one million cans, helped no doubt by its introduction to US consumers after a
decade on European shelves. In 1998, Red Bull sales mutated to over 300 million cans and ... Show

It is a short phrase that communicates descriptive information about the brand. This slogan is making
strong links between the brand and the corresponding product category, so it s creating a strong brand
awareness to the product. This slogan is used in all Red Bull campaigns, through the world, but in
different languages.
4. Jingles: The jingle is here the slogan said in a musical tone. And it is: Red Bull gives you
wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnngs . When asked why did they choose the slogan as jingle : we stress on the
benefits of our product.
5. Character: it s character is called Witty Bull. It is an animated character that represents a red color
bull. It is used in most of Red Bull events.
6. Packaging: Red Bull has created a can that is practical to use. The colors are silver and navy blue
divided in a very creative way, and in the middle we have the brand name, the logo, and the function
(energy drink). This bottle can identify the brand, convey descriptive information, facilitate product
transportation and protection, assist at home storage and aid product consumption. The size and shape
are made to satisfy mostly athletic people.
All of Red Bull brand elements are highly protected by a lot of laws. To protect it s brand name, Red
Bull has paid a lot of money so that no other company could use similar name or package. The logo,
slogan, jingle and character can not be imitated. As for the packaging the colors,

What Is The Theme Of Conflict In Tea Cake By Zora Neale...
Every creature goes to journey on an seemingly endless rollercoaster as life can be. Dreams that lie
beyond the horizon is something people continually try to achieve and Janie is no exception to this as
she defines her own strength and self worth. From facing gender roles to endless criticism she has the
strength to keep moving forward. As the story s main conflict is concentrated around Janie
relationships through she acquires the desire to want more for her own life. Where these hardships she
gains experience to live independently and especially learn to stand up for oneself no matter the
adversity. Characters like: Nanny, Logan Killicks, Joe Starks, and Vergible Tea Cake Woods gave her
experiences that help her gain her own ambitions and accomplish the quest of happiness Janie
searches for. The bravery exemplified by the author, Zora Neale Hurston throughout the story is
perfect to learn from as strength is exemplary to live today.
First
As the beginning of life starts all children have some caretaker. Janie is a teenage girl and like any is
young and naive. In this case for Janie her Nanny looks after her as a loving family member, but this
love does not exactly communicate correctly between them. Nanny clearly wants Janie to have a
better life, as she explains with her past in slavery. The aspirations she wishes to have is put towards
Janie. But the ideals conflict as Nanny s outlook of love battles Janie s teenage aspirations. Only later
does Janie understand of why

The Security Features Of Apple Inc.
On December 2, 2015, fourteen people were killed and twenty two were injured in a terrorist attack at
the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California. This tragedy consisted of a mass shooting
and an attempted bombing. The perpetrators, Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik were a married
couple. They targeted a San Bernardino County department of public health training event and holiday
party, of about eighty employees, in a banquet room. Rizwan and Tashfeen were killed in a gun fire
battle with police. The FBI recovered an iphone 5c used by Syed Rizwan, The FBI was unable to
unlock the phone they recovered. The FBI asked Apple Inc. to create a new version of the phones iOS
operating system that could be installed and run in the phone s random access memory to disable
certain security features. Apple declined due to its policy to never undermine the security features of
its products. The FBI responded by successfully applying to a United States magistrate judge, Sherri
Pym, to issue a court order, mandating Apple to create and provide the requested software. The order
was not a subpoena, but rather was issued under the All Writs Act of 1789. My argument is that Apple
should have cooperated, and found a way to unlock the iphone 5c, without disabling any security
features.
Farook worked as a food inspector for the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health for
five years before the shooting. The iPhone recovered was a county owned iPhone 5c that is issued to

New High School Graduation Requirements
Introduction
In 2007 the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) adopted new high school graduation
requirements. In addition to completing the state s credit requirements and demonstrating proficiency
on state standardized assessments, students must meet three personalized learning requirements
(PLRs): 1) completion of an education plan and profile; 2) participation in career related learning
experiences; and 3) extended application of personalized learning knowledge and skills in activities
relevant to postsecondary and career goals. This process is intended to begin in grade 7 and continue
through a student s senior year. See appendix A for more details on Oregon s requirements.
ODE and the Oregon Education Investment Board (OEIB) view the PLRs as critical to Oregon
students postsecondary readiness and success. The two agencies are partnering with REL Northwest
and the Oregon College and Career Readiness Research Alliance (OR CCR) to develop
recommendations for increasing and improving PLR implementation at public schools across the state.
This report provides a review of research on personalized learning and promising practices occurring
across the country. In this brief, we use personalized learning to refer to the entire process of
completing PLRs. The process is often documented in and/or referred to as a personalized learning
plan and includes participation in a variety of learning activities and experiences. This brief is
intended for policymakers and

Essay on Cause and Effect of Kristallnacht
Cause and Effect of Kristallnacht
The Holocaust was a great tragedy, but it didn t happen overnight. It was a long process of demeaning
Jews as subhuman. This started as early as 1933 when Hitler first came to power. However,
Kristallnacht, or The Night of the Broken Glass, was like the dam bursting. It was when the
government of Germany encouraged its people to loot and burn Jewish shops, synagogues, and
schools. In addition, many Jews were pulled out of their houses in the middle of the night and sent to
concentration camps. In some towns so many of the men were sent to the camps that the women and
children were forced to clean up the broken glass that littered the streets. Kristallnacht was a very
significant point in the Holocaust, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aryan were told not to shop in Jewish shops and Jews could not shop in Aryan owned shops. In 1935
The Nuremberg Race Laws were passed. These stated that Jews could not go to public swimming
pools, theaters, schools, etc. In addition Jews were forced to sew a Star Of David on their clothes to
identify them as Jews. At this point in time, Jews could do very little. Some were arrested just for
taking a walk outside. So at this point in time Jews were very restricted. One Jewish teenager,
Herschel Grinszpan, was living in Paris. His father was relocated by the Nazis to Poland. He decided
that he was going to assassinate the German ambassador. He went to the embassy, but he was not able
to locate his target. So he tried to assassinate Third Secretary Ernst vom Rath instead. Ironically, Rath
was an anti Nazi. Even though Rath was only a minor official, Hitler used propaganda to convince
people that the act was an international conspiracy by Jews everywhere. Hitler made it seem as though
Jews were attacking Germany itself. This is what led to Kristallnacht. The act of one Jew gave Hitler
exactly the excuse he needed to hurt the Jews en masse and in public. It gave him the excuse for the
government to condone mass destruction of Jewish property and businesses. Even though Jews were
losing their liberty they still endured it as best they could. However Kristallnacht convinced them once

Hedda Gabler Symbols
Objects in Hedda Gabler Henrik Ibsen showed Europe that theater could be more than just spectacle,
that it could be an art form addressing the most serious moral and social questions of the time (Norton
778). In some of his works Ibsen attempted to write modern versions of Greek tragedy. Of these, his
play Hedda Gabler, displaying the tragedy of modern middle class life, is the most compelling and
famous (Norton 780). In Hedda Gabler, Ibsen uses the household and its objects, Mrs. Elvested s hair
and manuscript written with Eilert Løvorg, and the opening and closing of curtains as symbolism in
the play. Hedda Tesman s marriage to George Tesman, a member of the lower middle class, has
dragged her down from her position in upper middle class society to a member of a lower class. Their
households and its objects are a never ending source of scorn for Hedda throughout the play; Hedda
despises those objects associated with Tesman and his class, and she admires the remnants of her
former life (Norton 780). At the beginning of the play she examines her old piano and compares it to
the other objects in the room: I was just looking at my old piano. It really doesn t go with these other
things (Ibsen 789). However, when Tesman suggests they trade it in for a better matching one, she
refuses to let it go and its connection to her former class. Even her house itself mocks Hedda and her
marriage: But it so happens that George Tesman and I found our common ground in

Bruno Mars Personification
The message of the song Just the way you are by Bruno Mars is that no matter what you think of
yourself, never attempt to put yourself down and always believe that you are beautiful, Just the way
you are. hence the title. A poetic device from the song that proves one of the messages is Mars use of
personification which he uses since occasionally, when you personify a situation, it gives the non
humanly object a more humanly meaning, and it also causes it sound more interesting and engaging.
For example, in the third stanza, Mars says, Her laugh, Her laugh/ She hates but I think it s so sexy .
As well as in the Chorus, he says, The whole world stops and stares for a while . Through the use of
personification, Bruno Mars shows how he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he says, Her lips, her lips/ I could kiss them all day if she d let me. He is exaggerating this point
considering he cannot actually kiss her the entire day, as every human is compelled to eat, breathe, go
to the washroom, etc... But, he is saying that her lips are so beautiful, that he would kiss them all day
long if he could. Also he is saying that, her eyes make the stars look like they re not shining. He is
saying this due to the fact that he considers her eyes more beautiful than the stars and that they shine
brighter so he is exaggerating that he doesn t even need to glimpse at the stars as long as he has his
girlfriend s eyes, as they are the best things to stare at. This proves the message because his girlfriend
keeps asking him throughout the song if she is extremely pretty or if she looks okay, but Bruno Mars
himself, says that she is perfect no matter what and she honestly needs to start believing that she is
beautiful and needs to stop putting herself down and to believe in

The Future Of Personal Transportation
The future of personal transportation is in complete vehicle automation. However, the risks to
individuals are not as high as the media may make it seem. That being said, it is important for the
public to be aware of the new threats involved in driving automated cars. A consumer interest in
online vehicle security will push manufacturers to invest in better security systems to defend against
hacker attacks.
The vast majority of hackers are not looking to murder people. Most likely they seek to invade
privacy, or exploit online services for financial gain. These people are looking to be a nuisance and
possibly trying to harass particular individuals in the process. To look at the threat of vehicle hacking
as a massively life threatening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of these systems are incredibly useful, including: satellite radio, Bluetooth connections, and the
monitoring of non electronic systems within the car. Personal connectivity to cars on the road has very
high potential, and should continue to be explored, along with the appropriate security measures. One
of the most blatant issues is that many of these electronic systems are too connected to each other.
Hackers are able to exploit the weakness of one system, and then proceed to manipulate the much
more critical ones, such as navigation assistance, phone connectivity, or steering in the most severe
circumstances. Building
It is inevitable that people will attempt to break into these systems for their own personal gain. We are
dependent on security experts to come up with new ways to defend the public from hackers, and
minimize exploitable weaknesses. This can be expensive, and is often neglected by vehicles
manufactures. However, it is a necessary cost if interconnected vehicle systems are to be the norm.
Researcher Peiter Zatko said,
If we know that hacking will happen, then car manufacturers have an ethical obligation to implement
preventative measures.
Implementing such large scale connectivity is reminiscent of the beginnings of the internet in the
1990s. The creators of the networks rushed to introduce this new phenomenon to the world, not

The Journey Of Transformation And Change In Dante s Inferno
In the beginning of Inferno, Dante the poet and Dante the pilgrim are in contradiction with each other
in their judgment of the sinners. In his journey of transformation and change, Dante the pilgrim
changes and grows through his experiences in hell, as he learns what is right and wrong and manages
to reconcile his differences with Dante the poet. We see the convergence of the two Dantes through
Dante the pilgrim s evolution of pity, in which by the end of the penultimate canto, the pilgrim no
longer shows pity to the sinners a sign of him endorsing the poet s judgment of the sinners. Through
the reconciliation of the poet and the pilgrim, Dante explains that we can overcome sin in our own life
and find salvation in God by accepting sin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His sensitivity is however, attributable to his initial state of ignorance as his own personal experiences
hinder the insight necessary to perceive the reality of the sin. In Canto V, we enter the Circle of the
Lustful and find the carnal sinners who have subjected their nobler selves to the animal impulses of
the flesh. The reactions of both poet and pilgrim to the plight of Francesca present the same
dichotomy of emotion stern in judgment, but faint and swooning in emotional response. Upon hearing
the names of those in the Second Circle, pity seized [him], and [he] was like a man astray (V, 71 72).
In the beginning of his pilgrimage progress, Dante pities Paolo and Francesca. Paolo and Francesca
explain the suffering of the souls in Hell and offer a sympathetic story of two lovers trapped for
eternity because of their forbidden love. Dante the pilgrim empathizes with their epic love, as he
continues to passionately love and search for Beatrice, whom he has lost on Earth because of her early
death and presents a subjective view. Because he can relate to Paolo and Francesca s prohibited love,
he cannot help but remain ignorant to the sinful nature of this crime. It is his adoration for an epic love
that clouds his sense of reasoning, as Dante does not see souls damned by their own fault, but rather a

In Othello, Shakespeare introduces us to many strong male figures such as Othello, Michael Cassio,
Roderigo and Iago, but Shakespeare also created powerful women in this play as well. In fact, the
women in the play tend to take front and centering in a lot of scene, stealing moments. The moments
in particular would be the scenes towards the end of the play with Desdemona and Emili talking about
a wife s loyalty to her husband and how should she respond to him. Their beliefs in the play are put
into action in the final Act, and even though they both have completely different views on
relationships, they both follow their convictions. In act 4, scene 3 we see Desdemona ask I have heard

The most important duties for a city dwelling woman were to bear children preferably male and to run

Aphrodite gave her femininity and Athena taught her crafts. Hermes was ordered by Zeus to teach her

told her that the box contained special gifts from them but she was not allowed to open the box ever.
Then Hermes took her to Epimetheus, brother of Prometheus, to be his wife. Prometheus had advised
Epimetheus not to accept anything from the Gods, but he saw Pandora and was astonished by her
beauty, thus he accepted her right away. Pandora was trying to tame her curiosity, but at the end, she

Kansas City Preventive Patrol
If I was the Chief of Police, at Kansas City Police Department at the time of the Kansas City
Preventive Patrol Experiment in 1972; my preventive patrol versus random patrol strategies would be
based on the idea that visible police presence would target the hot spots in an area with unmarked
units wearing plain clothes. My officers would provide a general deterrent effect on crime, and that
same police presence would reduce the general public s fear of crime. However, my officers will be
using unmarked units and wearing plain clothes to form a relationship with the public. It is through
directed patrols dosage in specific zones or hot spots, and through the use of strategically defined
objectives during patrol activities, that the effectiveness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One small study in California reported crime decreased during directed patrol (Cordner, 2016, p.395).
Kansas City Preventative Patrol Experiment could have been different if more proactive patrols had
been used and tested to combat crime in high crime areas. (Vigoa, 2010) Theoretically, random
preventive patrol activities should provide general deterrence effects for publicly visible crimes, such
as vandalism, disorderly conduct, robberies and burglaries, and potentially aggravated assault (Hart,
2013). I feel, if officers are direct patrolling a permitted assigned area, in unmarked units, at all times,
the people in the communities will notice, instead of officers just randomly driving through or only
responding to calls when needed. Nevertheless, officers direct patrolling in unmarked units wearing
plain clothes appear to be aggressive patrol which may have the same effect with regards to increased
public visibility in providing a level of deterrence while simultaneously providing far more powerful
specific deterrence effects analyzed in the research. Therefore, the effectiveness of random preventive
patrol activities is conclusively inefficient when compared with other methods of targeting and
reducing criminal activity within any given zone (Hart, 2013). If the citizens are satisfied with directed
patrol presence, then maybe they want haste to call dispatch for officers assistance, and perhaps
officer s attitude towards responding and solving crimes will change to a more committed

three major principles. First, organizations operating for charitable purposes were granted exemptions
from Federal income tax. Second, charitable organizations were required to be free of private
inurement. Third, an income tax deduction for contributions was developed and designed to encourage
charitable giving for organizations. The Wilson Gorham Tariff Act of 1884 provided an exemption for
corporations, companies, or associations organized and conducted solely for charitable, religious, or
educational purposes, including fraternal beneficiary associations. Ultimately this Act became famous
for income tax provisions later found unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. The Underwood Tariff
Act of 1913 established an income tax system with tax exemptions for certain organizations, most
particularly for the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce appeared before the Senate
Finance Committee during its deliberations because it was anxious that the existing tax exemptions
would not protect nonprofit business groups. This Act also included an exemption for organizations
dedicated to social welfare, the forerunner to today s IRC 501(c)(4). Later, the Revenue Act of 1943

Background of the NBA Lockout
Introduction The middle ground argument is where by the positive and negative sides of a topic are
looked at, carefully discussed and a middle or neutral position is taken for the two contrasting sides
(Jasinski, 2006). In any contentious issue the person analyzing the situation should look at both sides
of the issue. After critical analysis they can then state their stand which will favor neither side.
Background The NBA lockout that was experienced in 2011 was the fourth lockout to have been
experienced in the history of NBA. The lock out began on expiring of the collective bargaining
agreement that had been made in 2006. The lockout lasted one hundred and sixty one days
(CACCIOLA, 2011). The crucial issues that brought about the lockout that resulted from the
disagreement of owners and players represented by National Basketball Players Association were the
salary cap structure, the luxury tax and the way revenue was to be divided. When the lockout took
place there was no trading by teams, no new signings and absolutely no contact with the players. After
consecutive meetings, there was an agreement reached and a tentative deal made which was later
ratified. The real gist of the lockout was the ratio of the revenue that each side was to take home from
the total $4 billion. The players indicated that they were ready to concede on the salary issued but
wanted a significant share of the revenue. On the other side, the owners indicated that they had and

Blackberry s Success And Popularity Before Their Setbacks
Blackberry s success and popularity before their setbacks can be attained to their exporting approach
and strategies. Since Blackberry was formed and began manufacturing and selling their devices, they
have certainly made a household name and reputation particularly in the enterprise segment both
nationally and especially internationally. They previously secured market share in numerous countries
as they rapidly expanded. This could not have been done without effective exporting modes and
strategies. Unfortunately, as Blackberry s main downfall was their products remaining static so too
were their exporting strategies. Therefore, they must be further improved immediately in order to

Unlike today, the absence of e commerce in the early 2000 s when Blackberry became consumer
focused partially led to the inability to offer a direct to market sales model where consumers can
purchase an unlocked phone directly from Blackberry themselves. Therefore, exporting was not a
main concern for Blackberry before when they faced strong demand. One way or another, carriers and
other middle agents would be motivated to figure out a way to get Blackberry devices into the hands
of consumers since they could get a nice piece of the huge profit pie as well. Manufacturing of
Blackberry was outsourced for a while to factories across the U.S, Mexico, and Europe in order to
meet the huge demand they faced at their peak. Blackberry formed strategic alliances with numerous
Electronic Manufacturing Suppliers (EMS) including their major ones Elcoteq, Jabil Circuit, Multi
Fineline Electronix Inc., Qalcomm Inc., and Marvell Technology Group who thereby took on
manufacturing and distributing roles for Blackberry. Blackberry s Research and Development has also
been globalized with operations in China, Germany, Britain, and the U.S aside from its main original
location in Waterloo. RIM had a significant head start in shipping methods, a larger carrier distribution
network, and extensive customer support allowed it to remain ahead of Apple and Android devices for

Legalization of Medical Marijuana Essay
Medical Marijuana: A Topic Leaving People Up in Smoke Renee Grant ENC 1101 1002 Professor
Bahle March 30, 2013 Medical Marijuana: A Topic Leaving People Up in Smoke Medical marijuana
has been an ongoing fight between the federal government, physicians and patients. Contrary to many
beliefs, marijuana, whether it is used for medical reasons or recreational is non lethal. It has been
proven to be useful in many medical conditions. There has been no evidence of an individual
overdosing on marijuana, but there have been a tremendous number of deaths related to prescription

What better way to elevate their pain by allowing them to use a plant that has been around for
thousands of years. It is cheaper than prescription medications, and one would not have to worry about
all the possible side effects that prescription medications contribute to, as in effects on the heart,
kidneys, and liver. Pharmacies will be hit the hardest when medical marijuana is legalized. It is
cheaper for patients to grow their own medication. Some scientists are still working on how they can
make a synthetic form of THC that can be put into capsule form. Is a synthetic form safe? This is still
unclear. Physicians who are able to prescribe medical marijuana need to keep a watchful eye out for
those that claim to have a disease just so that they can get their marijuana legally. Tax payers are
spending billions of dollars each year to fight the war on marijuana. The effort has done nothing,
where are the billions of dollars going? Physicians that prescribe medical marijuana to their patients
are not promoting smoking by any means; they are just helping relive pain of their suffering patients.
While there will be a continuing battle against medical marijuana for years to come there have been 16

Should Assistive Technology Be Disabled Students With...
The reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) 1997 and IDEA 2004
provided disabled students with options for assistive technology in the classroom as well as assistive
technology services. It is through these mandates that Individual Educational Plans (IEP) began to
include assistive technology options. The IDEA 2004 law mandates that assistive technology devices
and services be provided to students with disabilities if the technology is essential for accessing
education related resources. (Dell, Newton, Petroff, 2012, p. 7) The end result is, to make it possible
for the student to access the curriculum that he/she otherwise could not without the assistive
technology.
Assistive technology is any device, aids or services, that substitute or compensate for an impaired
physical or mental ability. (Grand Canyon University. n.d. Lecture 1) There are a number of assistive
technology devices available to use with students. The members of the IEP team will collaborate to
determine the devices, if any, that fit the needs of the special education student. There is a range of
options available, from low tech devices using no electronics and usually inexpensive, to high tech
devices, that are often computer based and can be expensive. (Dell, Newton, Petroff, 2012) Some

Analysis of a Passage from The Grapes of Wrath Essay
Depicting the Dust Bowl exodus, The Grapes of Wrath is a literary masterpiece. Development and
hierarchy are portrayed. In the passage to be studied, almost at the beginning of the novel, Tom Joad,
who has just been released from prison, discovered his abandoned house. Travelling with Casy, a
former preacher, they met Muley Graves , one of his former neighbours who refused to leave the
country, after people have been tractored off. Hardly the only one to speak, Muley explained how he
then lived alone, wandering from one empty house to another. A certain evolution is present
throughout the passage that can be compared to a human being?s life. First, birth can be paralleled
with a kind of creation. Then, the adult is the one who makes a ... Show more content on

This land becomes a part of them, of the family, of their lives, and Muley expresses the weighty
significance of that place, since he ?went in the room where Joe was born? (l30 1) so as to recollect
this arrival. Being at the very place where his child was born means to remember why he decided to
live there. He was the person in charge, and for that reason, he had to act for his new born baby who
was frail. Then, children have to discover the world, as it is something new for them.
Furthermore, Tom can be compared to a young child. Indeed, he has just been released from prison,
thus, he discovers life again. Definitely, he takes pleasure in cooking the meat, and in eating it: ?I
think we better eat her now? (l37), ?le?s eat this meat ?fore it?s smaller?n a cooked mouse? (l77 8). As
a child, he is only preoccupied by one thing, here it is the meat, and nothing else. This is also
noticeable in his discourse. Undeniably, he does not really communicate with the two others: ?Joad
turned the meat, and his eyes were inward? (l11). He is self centred. Therefore, at that step in the
novel, he can be associated with a child.
Moreover, this kind of selfishness is also obvious in the fact that he is not listening to what is said, or
actually, does not seem interested, as if he were not part of the debate. He is not aware of the others
yet. When he suggests that they ?better eat [the]

Interpreting Literature With Children Essay
According to Shelby A. Wolf in her book Interpreting Literature with Children, transactional criticism
is when the reader brings individual life experience to the text that acts as a guide (Wolf, 2004, p. 32).
In other words, while reading the text it is an experience in which the reader s life experiences are
brought in to form their understandings of the text. Growing up, every child wonders about the
impossible things. For example, children often wonder and wish that they could fly or be able to have
super hero powers; however, these are all just dreams that will never become a reality. In Chris Van
Allsburg s books, he is able to turn children s thoughts and feelings into a reality through his stories.
In his book Jumanji, Allsburg creates a story in which a game board comes to life and the main
characters of the book race the clock to try and finish the game. I am sure that children of all ages
have thought, one time or another, what it would be like if their favorite game or toy came to life.
Chris Van Allsburg allows that fantasy to become a reality. Another example of Chris Van Allsburg s
books being relatable to the reader is in his book The Polar Express. In the book The ... Show more

The Wounded Knee Massacre
Wounded Knee was a terrible event in US history. It showed how the US government didn t
understand the Native Americans and treated them badly and unfairly.
Big Foot was the chief of a subtribe of the Lakota called Miniconjou. He was very old and had
pneumonia. He was taking his tribe to the Pine Ridge Reservation in south western South Dakota.
Most of the women and children in Big Foot s tribe were family members of the warriors who had
died in the Plains wars. The Indians had agreed to live on small reservations after the US government
took away their land. At the Wounded Knee camp, there were 120 men and 230 women and children.
At the camp, they were guarded by the US Seventh Cavalry lead by Major Samuel Whitside. During
the year 1890 a new dance called the Ghost Dance started among the Sioux and other tribes. The
Sioux s Christ figure, Wovoka, was said to have flown over Sitting Bull and Short Bull and taught
them the dance and the songs. The Ghost Dance legend was that the next spring, when the grass was
high, the Earth would be covered with a new layer of soil, covering all white men. Wild buffalo and
horses would return and there would be swift running water, sweet grass, and new trees. All Indians
who danced the Ghost dance would be floating in the air when the new soil was being laid down and
would be saved. The Ghost Dance was made illegal after the Wounded Knee massacre though. On

Similarities Between College And University
The terms college and university originally had very similar meanings. Only with the passing of
centuries did university come to signify an educational institution composed of more than one college.
The word college means literally union formed by law, or a group of people associated in some
common function. The ancient Roman craft guilds were called collegia. The closest parallel today is
the corporation, a business organization chartered by a government.
 During the Middle Ages students at the universities of Paris, Oxford, and Cambridge found it
convenient to rent houses and share expenses instead of living in private apartments. By the 13th
century these houses of scholars were becoming legally recognized corporate institutions. ... Show

When used in its modern sense as a place for advanced learning, it usually required the addition of
other words such as masters and scholars. The term that was normally used to describe a legally
chartered school of teachers and students was studium generale, meaning a place of study open to
students from all parts. The universitas was a group of teachers or students (or perhaps both) within
the studium. A studium was quite similar to a guild in both origin and composition. The beginners
were essentially apprentices, called bachelors, while the teachers were the masters.
 The studium probably emerged when the bishop of a diocese gave a teacher permission to operate a
school other than the local cathedral or monastery school. It is likely that a license to teach was
granted to a master after a formal examination. The studium itself became a school that granted a
teaching license to its scholars after they completed a prescribed course of study and passed

Authoritative Government
People do not much like being told what to do; however, people elect rulers to do just that and are
angered when things do not go their way. People do not much like making hard decisions, but do not
like to agree with people who make them instead. The ultimate debate when taking a position of
power then becomes whether to let the people have a voice in making a government or to build one for
them to follow. The best way to govern is to make a government for your public to follow, an
authoritative government. Authoritative governments benefit people more by creating equality among
for their populations, having a faster law making processes, and establishing a better instilment of
discipline and moral consciousness.

Essay about Home Schooling
Home Schooling
Home Schooling in the United States is on the rise. In the 1980 s home schooling was a choice that
parents could make with their children if they so desired. By the early 1990 s about three hundred
thousand children were in a home school environment. Today there are about two million students
being taught at home. Children being taught at home are increasing by a rate of seven to fifteen
percent every year. Home schooling is a choice every parent has to make; these days more and more
parents are choosing to educate at home. When choosing to educate at home it is important to think
about the positive and negative aspects, the technological advancements that have been made, and
what laws and regulations you must follow. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now this child scores in the top percentile of standardized testing. He is also two grade levels ahead of
his age group (Gershaw).
Another pro of home schooling is the idea of religious freedom. Religion is very important to many
families. Some parents do not feel that parochial schools will provide their child with the information
needed to worship properly. Other families practice odd or unpopular religions which are not taught in
schools of any type. Many extremely religious families choose to home school for the mere fact the
school systems do not teach religion to the level of importance in which they find it to be.
Although home schooling may appear as a good idea there are some negative aspects you should take
into consideration too. The first problem with being home schooled is the lack of interaction with the
diverse world. The reason this is a problem is that children will not get to meet and learn from
different ethnicities and cultures. The child will only be listening to his or her parent s or instructor s
ideas and viewpoints on different ideas and different issues in the world which may leave the child
ignorant or bias depending on his or her instructor s orientation on matters. If the parent has ignorant
views on a situation this could be inherited and passed on to the child.
Home schooling poses time restraints. This would be a huge problem for a single parent because it
would not be possible for the parent to work and then

Why Did Argentina Fall So Fast
Argentina: one of the southernmost countries in the world. It is a Spanish speaking regional power,
and is a developed nation, standing 35th in the World. However, Argentina, just a century earlier, was
a global power, a formidable nation to be reckoned with. Argentina, at the time, was the 7th most

immigrant population in Latin America, and the second largest in the world, only surpassed by the
United States. Nearly 7 million immigrants took up residence in the country, and literacy rates

decades that followed, Argentina s development lagged behind the rest of the world, stagnant and
lacking progress. Argentina dropped from 7th to 54th most developed country in the world. Her
immigrant influx dropped exponentially. One might ask: what caused Argentina to fall so fast? The
partial answer was decades of political mismanagement, corruption, and a grim series of dictatorships.

The National Youth Leadership Forum
Growing up in a predominately African American school district, I would go several days without ever
being reminded of my racial identity. I was considered part of the majority throughout all of grade
school. However, this all changed as I began to stray from my normal crowd and participate in
academic enrichment and pre medical programs. The very first time that I was reminded that I was the
minority, and therefore inferior to many was when I attended a program called NYLF. The National
Youth Leadership Forum allowed me to spend ten days at a medical forum with high school students
from all over the world. When I arrived, I looked around and realized that out of about two hundred
kids, only about fifteen looked like me. I also noticed that they had all congregated to the same area
and had essentially secluded themselves. Determined not to stay in my comfort zone and expose
myself to new things, I decided to sit at a different table. A few days into the program, several
disappointing things became clear. I began to observe ignorant remarks, disapproving glares, and
belittling attitudes from many of my surrounding peers. Admittedly, it did make me somewhat upset to
know that so many felt that because I was a black girl, I did not deserve to be at this program. It
became evident that many of my opinions, thoughts, and responses to activities were quickly
discounted on most occasions. I wondered if I had made the wrong decision by branching off from my
African American peers.

Early Jamestown John Smith Summary
John Smith was one of the original settlers of Jamestown. But before that he was an experienced
solider and diplomat. He fought the Spanish in the Netherlands and the Turks in Hungary. When he
arrived to Jamestown he took part in governing the colony and managing relations with the natives.
After being saved by a friendly Indian named Pocahontas and helping colonization in the New World,
Smith returned to England. There he wrote and told about his experience in Virginia. He talked about
the Native Americans as well as why he felt it was the best place to continue to build the England
Empire.
The first thing Smith describe in his writing was the view and landscape of the land. He wrote that the
mildness of the air, the fertility of the soul , and the situation of the rivers are so propitious to the
nature and use of man as no place is more convenient for pleasure, profit and man sustenance. Any

Within 60 miles of Jamestown there are about some 500 people. These people were the Native
Americans, most of them women and children. Smith describe the natives as generally tall and
straight, of a comely proportion, and of a color brown. Their hair is generally black, but few have any
beards. The natives were strong, full of agility and could endure all types of weather. Smith saw them
as savages that was covered with the skins of wild

Essay on Geoffrey Chaucer
Geoffrey Chaucer
Geoffrey Chaucer was a poet, a writer, and of course a diplomat. Geoffrey Chaucer was born in the
early hours of 1340s to John Chaucer, a vintner and assistant to the king s butler. As a boy, he was a
leaf to the Countess of Ulster. (Lombardi) Chaucer was the most famous for writing his unfinished
Canterbury tales. (Geoffrey Chaucer) He was born in London, only problem is, the exact date and
place are unknown. From his writings Chaucer emerges as poet of love, both worldly and heavenly.
No information exists about his early education, although without a doubt he would have been as good
in French as in the Middle English of his time. (Bio.True Story) Chaucer pops up in the record books
in 1357 he was working for the queen. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people collected the sixteenth century editions of Chaucer s Works. He set the goal line for all
other English authors, including, presentation, quality and success of actually printing. (Geoffrey
Chaucer) When these versions of his poems were printed, that was the time where Geoffrey Chaucer
truly became famous.(Geoffrey Chaucer) It was in Chaucer s final phase, which he gained his
popularity, The Canterbury Tales (written mostly after 1387). The Canterbury Tales was an unfinished
poem. Being his most successful, it consists of 17000 lines. It was one of the most unsullied works in
all literature. (Info Please) The Canterbury Tales is a collection of stories written in Middle English.
As a group of pilgrims travels to the shrine of Saint Thomas they decide to tell stories to each other on
the way. In a huge list of poems and stories, the Canterbury Tales is Chaucer s most important and
visual, and a stacking achievement of western culture and Old English times. While writing the
Canterbury tales he use the characters and their lifestyles to create irony and every day events.
Describing what the old English church was really like. (Geoffrey Chaucer) The Canterbury Tales
were written in Middle English, in the old days, the tone was equivalent to London type style.
Although there was never an official copy of the Canterbury tales, Adam Pankhurst made sure that
wasn t true.
Chaucer s second period (up to c.1387) is called his Italian period because during this time

Maternal Depression in Women and Its Effect on the Family
Maternal Depression
Depression is a prevalent issue among women. Approximately 25% of women in will have a major
depressive disorder at least once in their lifetime and 15% of the female population will experience
post partum depression. (Women and Mental Illness, 2003) With these numbers, it is obvious that
maternal depression has profound effect on the Canadian family. Mother have the most influence in a
child s life, since they generally more involved in raising the children then men are. In most cases, this
influence serves to direct the child to healthy development. But when the mother is suffering from
depression, what effect does it have on the intellectual and emotional development of her child? The
child is definitively affected starting as early as infancy and through adolescence.
Depression: Symptoms and Causes
Depression may be simply defined as a state of sadness. Many may feel depressed for a short time
when things do not go their way, but when this feeling persists and interferes with daily activity a
doctor may diagnose an individual with clinical depression and order medication. Genetic
predisposition, personal problems, and seasonal hormonal changes are some of the many things that
may trigger depression. A depressed individual may encounter feelings of despair and sadness,
constant fatigue, constant headaches, among other things. If left untreated, depression may lead to
suicide. (Mood Disorders, 2003)

Blood Meridian Essay
In Blood Meridian, Cormac McCarthy describes a lawless and godless group of men ordained to
cleanse the West of lesser people. This group wanders through the West leaving a trail of slaughtered
people in their trail. The emptiness and ruthlessness of their hearts is reflected in the harsh and
unforgiving landscape. McCarthy uses reoccurring themes of war, religion, and dance to paint a
graphic picture of the savageness of life in the West.
As men ordained on a mission, Glanton s Gang is paid to seek out the scalps of Apaches and return
them to the Mexican town of Chihuahua City. The gang quickly moves beyond the killing of Indians
to include Mexicans, Americans, and whoever else crosses their path. The men are killing on their

Whatever Holden judges, it is not written law. It is an unwritten law, the law of death and evil. Judge
Holden represents a demonic character, larger than life, with a cruel soul.
The Imbecile, James Robert, exemplifies the Judge s god like power. Once the Judge rescues James
from drowning and after a sort of mock baptism, the once wild man becomes docile and shadows the
Judge s every movement. Judge Holden leading the imbecile around on a leash is similar to a king
being followed by his fool. The imbecile is another creature the Judge controls by allowing to exist.
One reason he allows the imbecile to live, while killing so many others, may be as a way to show his
superiority to Glanton. While Glanton has a mere dog as a pet, the Judge has an actual human as a pet.
Another example of Judge Holden s god like behavior occurs as he is pursuing the Kid and Tobin.
Throughout the novel, whenever the Judge set out to accomplish a task, he succeeds. While the Kid is
drinking water in the bone filled ravine, the Judge shoots at the Kid and misses. The Judge is an
excellent marksman and has a clear shot. However, at this point, he allows the Kid to live. Instead of
shooting to kill, the Judge s shot serves as a way to control the Kid; to maintain his suzerainty over the
weakest member of the group.
Judge Holden controls through destruction and pure evil, only he perseveres and triumphs, while
others fail, including the Kid.

Internal Student Satisfaction Feedback Has On The Quality...
According to Fielding et al. (2010), over the last few decades universities in many countries have been
increasing the amount of feedback they gather from their students due to the increased importance of
maintaining high standards in higher education. A high calibre of students combined with a vast
number of higher education institutions to choose from, means that there is more motivation for such
institutions to aim for a quality of learning higher than in previous years and superior to perceived
competitors. There is a great deal of debate surrounding the NSS and the use of internal feedback in
universities across the UK.

Cohen (1980) said that other purposes [aside from improving teaching] include aiding administrative
processes. This involves monitoring lecturers as employees in order to support appraisals and reviews,
as well as providing students with evidence to base their choice of institution on. This was later
supported by Kember et al. (2010) who found that feedback questionnaires did not necessarily
improve teaching quality and that their main purpose was to aid appraisal.
Analysis on internal feedback is conducted frequently at Cardiff University. Though there is little
research done on the actual impact of conducting regular questionnaires on the quality of teaching,
Kember et al. (2010) found that there was no evidence of an improvement in the quality of teaching
during a 4 year observation period across 25 departments in one university. (The quality was measured
using a student feedback questionnaire, with a 5 point Likert scale. Contrary to this, Tuckman et al.
(1968) found evidence suggesting an improvement in the quality of teaching as a result of internal
feedback over a 12 week observation period. This was concluded by monitoring the student ratings of
286 teachers.
1.1.2 Review of the National Student Survey
With respect to the NSS, there is an abundance of research on its effect on universities in terms of
admissions and

  • 2. Red Bull Essay Red Bull Energy Drink I. RED BULL S HISTORY. Corporate legend has it that in the early 1980s, while traveling to Asia on business, Austrian Dietrich Mateschiz came across some very popular energy drinks . With his (self describe) uncanny instinct for successful product innovations , he schlepped a small sample of energy beverages back to Europe along with a big idea. Then with a clear vision and a lot of scientific know how, Dietrich (and what was surely several unnamed food scientists) gave birth to the Red Bull Energy Drink. In 1997, Red Bull sold one million cans, helped no doubt by its introduction to US consumers after a decade on European shelves. In 1998, Red Bull sales mutated to over 300 million cans and ... This bottle can identify the brand, convey descriptive information, facilitate product transportation and protection, assist at home storage and aid product consumption. The size and shape are made to satisfy mostly athletic people. All of Red Bull brand elements are highly protected by a lot of laws. To protect it s brand name, Red Bull has paid a lot of money so that no other company could use similar name or package. The logo, slogan, jingle and character can not be imitated. • 3. What Is The Theme Of Conflict In Tea Cake By Zora Neale... Every creature goes to journey on an seemingly endless rollercoaster as life can be. Dreams that lie beyond the horizon is something people continually try to achieve and Janie is no exception to this as she defines her own strength and self worth. From facing gender roles to endless criticism she has the strength to keep moving forward. As the story s main conflict is concentrated around Janie relationships through she acquires the desire to want more for her own life. Where these hardships she gains experience to live independently and especially learn to stand up for oneself no matter the adversity. Characters like: Nanny, Logan Killicks, Joe Starks, and Vergible Tea Cake Woods gave her experiences that help her gain her own ambitions and accomplish the quest of happiness Janie searches for. The bravery exemplified by the author, Zora Neale Hurston throughout the story is perfect to learn from as strength is exemplary to live today. First As the beginning of life starts all children have some caretaker. Janie is a teenage girl and like any is young and naive. In this case for Janie her Nanny looks after her as a loving family member, but this love does not exactly communicate correctly between them. Nanny clearly wants Janie to have a better life, as she explains with her past in slavery. The aspirations she wishes to have is put towards Janie. But the ideals conflict as Nanny s outlook of love battles Janie s teenage aspirations. Only later does Janie understand of why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Security Features Of Apple Inc. On December 2, 2015, fourteen people were killed and twenty two were injured in a terrorist attack at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California. This tragedy consisted of a mass shooting and an attempted bombing. The perpetrators, Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik were a married couple. They targeted a San Bernardino County department of public health training event and holiday party, of about eighty employees, in a banquet room. Rizwan and Tashfeen were killed in a gun fire battle with police. The FBI recovered an iphone 5c used by Syed Rizwan, The FBI was unable to unlock the phone they recovered. The FBI asked Apple Inc. to create a new version of the phones iOS operating system that could be installed and run in the phone s random access memory to disable certain security features. Apple declined due to its policy to never undermine the security features of its products. The FBI responded by successfully applying to a United States magistrate judge, Sherri Pym, to issue a court order, mandating Apple to create and provide the requested software. The order was not a subpoena, but rather was issued under the All Writs Act of 1789. My argument is that Apple should have cooperated, and found a way to unlock the iphone 5c, without disabling any security features. Farook worked as a food inspector for the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health for five years before the shooting. The iPhone recovered was a county owned iPhone 5c that is issued to ... In addition to completing the state s credit requirements and demonstrating proficiency on state standardized assessments, students must meet three personalized learning requirements (PLRs): 1) completion of an education plan and profile; 2) participation in career related learning experiences; and 3) extended application of personalized learning knowledge and skills in activities relevant to postsecondary and career goals. This process is intended to begin in grade 7 and continue through a student s senior year. See appendix A for more details on Oregon s requirements. ODE and the Oregon Education Investment Board (OEIB) view the PLRs as critical to Oregon students postsecondary readiness and success. The two agencies are partnering with REL Northwest and the Oregon College and Career Readiness Research Alliance (OR CCR) to develop recommendations for increasing and improving PLR implementation at public schools across the state. This report provides a review of research on personalized learning and promising practices occurring across the country. • 6. Essay on Cause and Effect of Kristallnacht Cause and Effect of Kristallnacht The Holocaust was a great tragedy, but it didn t happen overnight. It was a long process of demeaning Jews as subhuman. This started as early as 1933 when Hitler first came to power. However, Kristallnacht, or The Night of the Broken Glass, was like the dam bursting. It was when the government of Germany encouraged its people to loot and burn Jewish shops, synagogues, and schools. In addition, many Jews were pulled out of their houses in the middle of the night and sent to concentration camps. In some towns so many of the men were sent to the camps that the women and children were forced to clean up the broken glass that littered the streets. At this point in time, Jews could do very little. Some were arrested just for taking a walk outside. So at this point in time Jews were very restricted. One Jewish teenager, Herschel Grinszpan, was living in Paris. His father was relocated by the Nazis to Poland. He decided that he was going to assassinate the German ambassador. He went to the embassy, but he was not able to locate his target. So he tried to assassinate Third Secretary Ernst vom Rath instead. Ironically, Rath was an anti Nazi. Even though Rath was only a minor official, Hitler used propaganda to convince people that the act was an international conspiracy by Jews everywhere. Hitler made it seem as though Jews were attacking Germany itself. This is what led to Kristallnacht. The act of one Jew gave Hitler exactly the excuse he needed to hurt the Jews en masse and in public. It gave him the excuse for the government to condone mass destruction of Jewish property and businesses. Even though Jews were losing their liberty they still endured it as best they could. • 7. Hedda Gabler Symbols Objects in Hedda Gabler Henrik Ibsen showed Europe that theater could be more than just spectacle, that it could be an art form addressing the most serious moral and social questions of the time (Norton 778). In some of his works Ibsen attempted to write modern versions of Greek tragedy. Of these, his play Hedda Gabler, displaying the tragedy of modern middle class life, is the most compelling and famous (Norton 780). In Hedda Gabler, Ibsen uses the household and its objects, Mrs. Elvested s hair and manuscript written with Eilert Løvorg, and the opening and closing of curtains as symbolism in the play. Hedda Tesman s marriage to George Tesman, a member of the lower middle class, has dragged her down from her position in upper middle class society to a member of a lower class. Their households and its objects are a never ending source of scorn for Hedda throughout the play; Hedda despises those objects associated with Tesman and his class, and she admires the remnants of her former life (Norton 780). At the beginning of the play she examines her old piano and compares it to the other objects in the room: I was just looking at my old piano. It really doesn t go with these other things (Ibsen 789). However, when Tesman suggests they trade it in for a better matching one, she refuses to let it go and its connection to her former class. Even her house itself mocks Hedda and her marriage: But it so happens that George Tesman and I found our common ground in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bruno Mars Personification The message of the song Just the way you are by Bruno Mars is that no matter what you think of yourself, never attempt to put yourself down and always believe that you are beautiful, Just the way you are. hence the title. A poetic device from the song that proves one of the messages is Mars use of personification which he uses since occasionally, when you personify a situation, it gives the non humanly object a more humanly meaning, and it also causes it sound more interesting and engaging. For example, in the third stanza, Mars says, Her laugh, Her laugh/ She hates but I think it s so sexy . As well as in the Chorus, he says, The whole world stops and stares for a while . He is saying this due to the fact that he considers her eyes more beautiful than the stars and that they shine brighter so he is exaggerating that he doesn t even need to glimpse at the stars as long as he has his girlfriend s eyes, as they are the best things to stare at. This proves the message because his girlfriend keeps asking him throughout the song if she is extremely pretty or if she looks okay, but Bruno Mars himself, says that she is perfect no matter what and she honestly needs to start believing that she is beautiful and needs to stop putting herself down and to believe in ... That being said, it is important for the public to be aware of the new threats involved in driving automated cars. A consumer interest in online vehicle security will push manufacturers to invest in better security systems to defend against hacker attacks. Personal connectivity to cars on the road has very high potential, and should continue to be explored, along with the appropriate security measures. One of the most blatant issues is that many of these electronic systems are too connected to each other. Hackers are able to exploit the weakness of one system, and then proceed to manipulate the much more critical ones, such as navigation assistance, phone connectivity, or steering in the most severe circumstances. The Journey Of Transformation And Change In Dante s Inferno In the beginning of Inferno, Dante the poet and Dante the pilgrim are in contradiction with each other in their judgment of the sinners. In his journey of transformation and change, Dante the pilgrim changes and grows through his experiences in hell, as he learns what is right and wrong and manages to reconcile his differences with Dante the poet. We see the convergence of the two Dantes through Dante the pilgrim s evolution of pity, in which by the end of the penultimate canto, the pilgrim no longer shows pity to the sinners a sign of him endorsing the poet s judgment of the sinners. Through the reconciliation of the poet and the pilgrim, Dante explains that we can overcome sin in our own life and find salvation in God by accepting sin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His sensitivity is however, attributable to his initial state of ignorance as his own personal experiences hinder the insight necessary to perceive the reality of the sin. In Canto V, we enter the Circle of the Lustful and find the carnal sinners who have subjected their nobler selves to the animal impulses of the flesh. The reactions of both poet and pilgrim to the plight of Francesca present the same dichotomy of emotion stern in judgment, but faint and swooning in emotional response. Upon hearing the names of those in the Second Circle, pity seized [him], and [he] was like a man astray (V, 71 72). In the beginning of his pilgrimage progress, Dante pities Paolo and Francesca. Paolo and Francesca explain the suffering of the souls in Hell and offer a sympathetic story of two lovers trapped for eternity because of their forbidden love. Dante the pilgrim empathizes with their epic love, as he continues to passionately love and search for Beatrice, whom he has lost on Earth because of her early death and presents a subjective view. Because he can relate to Paolo and Francesca s prohibited love, he cannot help but remain ignorant to the sinful nature of this crime. (Vigoa, 2010) Theoretically, random preventive patrol activities should provide general deterrence effects for publicly visible crimes, such as vandalism, disorderly conduct, robberies and burglaries, and potentially aggravated assault (Hart, 2013). I feel, if officers are direct patrolling a permitted assigned area, in unmarked units, at all times, the people in the communities will notice, instead of officers just randomly driving through or only responding to calls when needed. Nevertheless, officers direct patrolling in unmarked units wearing plain clothes appear to be aggressive patrol which may have the same effect with regards to increased public visibility in providing a level of deterrence while simultaneously providing far more powerful specific deterrence effects analyzed in the research. Therefore, the effectiveness of random preventive patrol activities is conclusively inefficient when compared with other methods of targeting and reducing criminal activity within any given zone (Hart, 2013). If the citizens are satisfied with directed patrol presence, then maybe they want haste to call dispatch for officers assistance, and perhaps officer s attitude towards responding and solving crimes will change to a more committed ... • 21. Legislative History Of Tax Exemption Essay Some legislative history to tax exemption organizations began between 1894 and 1969, the development of legislation led the structure of the current tax exemptions granted to charitable and voluntary sectors outlined in the United States Tax Code. The early tax regulations established around three major principles. First, organizations operating for charitable purposes were granted exemptions from Federal income tax. Second, charitable organizations were required to be free of private inurement. Third, an income tax deduction for contributions was developed and designed to encourage charitable giving for organizations. The Wilson Gorham Tariff Act of 1884 provided an exemption for corporations, companies, or associations organized and conducted solely for charitable, religious, or educational purposes, including fraternal beneficiary associations. Ultimately this Act became famous for income tax provisions later found unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. The Underwood Tariff Act of 1913 established an income tax system with tax exemptions for certain organizations, most particularly for the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce appeared before the Senate Finance Committee during its deliberations because it was anxious that the existing tax exemptions would not protect nonprofit business groups. This Act also included an exemption for organizations dedicated to social welfare, the forerunner to today s IRC 501(c)(4). Later, the Revenue Act of 1943 required ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Background of the NBA Lockout Introduction The middle ground argument is where by the positive and negative sides of a topic are looked at, carefully discussed and a middle or neutral position is taken for the two contrasting sides (Jasinski, 2006). In any contentious issue the person analyzing the situation should look at both sides of the issue. After critical analysis they can then state their stand which will favor neither side. Background The NBA lockout that was experienced in 2011 was the fourth lockout to have been experienced in the history of NBA. The lock out began on expiring of the collective bargaining agreement that had been made in 2006. The lockout lasted one hundred and sixty one days (CACCIOLA, 2011). The crucial issues that brought about the lockout that resulted from the disagreement of owners and players represented by National Basketball Players Association were the salary cap structure, the luxury tax and the way revenue was to be divided. When the lockout took place there was no trading by teams, no new signings and absolutely no contact with the players. After consecutive meetings, there was an agreement reached and a tentative deal made which was later ratified. The real gist of the lockout was the ratio of the revenue that each side was to take home from the total $4 billion. The players indicated that they were ready to concede on the salary issued but wanted a significant share of the revenue. On the other side, the owners indicated that they had and were still ... The reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) 1997 and IDEA 2004 provided disabled students with options for assistive technology in the classroom as well as assistive technology services. • 28. Interpreting Literature With Children Essay According to Shelby A. Wolf in her book Interpreting Literature with Children, transactional criticism is when the reader brings individual life experience to the text that acts as a guide (Wolf, 2004, p. 32). In other words, while reading the text it is an experience in which the reader s life experiences are brought in to form their understandings of the text. Growing up, every child wonders about the impossible things. For example, children often wonder and wish that they could fly or be able to have super hero powers; however, these are all just dreams that will never become a reality. In Chris Van Allsburg s books, he is able to turn children s thoughts and feelings into a reality through his stories. In his book Jumanji, Allsburg creates a story in which a game board comes to life and the main characters of the book race the clock to try and finish the game. I am sure that children of all ages have thought, one time or another, what it would be like if their favorite game or toy came to life. Chris Van Allsburg allows that fantasy to become a reality. This group wanders through the West leaving a trail of slaughtered people in their trail. The emptiness and ruthlessness of their hearts is reflected in the harsh and unforgiving landscape. McCarthy uses reoccurring themes of war, religion, and dance to paint a graphic picture of the savageness of life in the West. As men ordained on a mission, Glanton s Gang is paid to seek out the scalps of Apaches and return them to the Mexican town of Chihuahua City. The gang quickly moves beyond the killing of Indians to include Mexicans, Americans, and whoever else crosses their path. The men are killing on their own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whatever Holden judges, it is not written law. It is an unwritten law, the law of death and evil. Judge Holden represents a demonic character, larger than life, with a cruel soul. The Imbecile, James Robert, exemplifies the Judge s god like power. Once the Judge rescues James from drowning and after a sort of mock baptism, the once wild man becomes docile and shadows the Judge s every movement. Judge Holden leading the imbecile around on a leash is similar to a king being followed by his fool. The imbecile is another creature the Judge controls by allowing to exist. One reason he allows the imbecile to live, while killing so many others, may be as a way to show his superiority to Glanton. While Glanton has a mere dog as a pet, the Judge has an actual human as a pet. Another example of Judge Holden s god like behavior occurs as he is pursuing the Kid and Tobin. Throughout the novel, whenever the Judge set out to accomplish a task, he succeeds. While the Kid is drinking water in the bone filled ravine, the Judge shoots at the Kid and misses. The Judge is an excellent marksman and has a clear shot. However, at this point, he allows the Kid to live. Instead of shooting to kill, the Judge s shot serves as a way to control the Kid; to maintain his suzerainty over the weakest member of the group. Judge Holden controls through destruction and pure evil, only he perseveres and triumphs, while others fail, including the Kid. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(2010), over the last few decades universities in many countries have been increasing the amount of feedback they gather from their students due to the increased importance of maintaining high standards in higher education. A high calibre of students combined with a vast number of higher education institutions to choose from, means that there is more motivation for such institutions to aim for a quality of learning higher than in previous years and superior to perceived competitors. There is a great deal of debate surrounding the NSS and the use of internal feedback in universities across the UK. 1.1.1 Review of Internal Student Satisfaction Feedback In the past decade, there has been an increased interest ... This involves monitoring lecturers as employees in order to support appraisals and reviews, as well as providing students with evidence to base their choice of institution on. This was later supported by Kember et al. (2010) who found that feedback questionnaires did not necessarily improve teaching quality and that their main purpose was to aid appraisal. Analysis on internal feedback is conducted frequently at Cardiff University. Though there is little research done on the actual impact of conducting regular questionnaires on the quality of teaching, Kember et al. (2010) found that there was no evidence of an improvement in the quality of teaching during a 4 year observation period across 25 departments in one university. (The quality was measured using a student feedback questionnaire, with a 5 point Likert scale. Contrary to this, Tuckman et al. (1968) found evidence suggesting an improvement in the quality of teaching as a result of internal feedback over a 12 week observation period. This was concluded by monitoring the student ratings of 286 teachers. 1.1.2 Review of the National Student Survey With respect to the NSS, there is an abundance of research on its effect on universities in terms of admissions and ...
