Bob Dylan and Popular Music
the man who did to popular music what Einstein did to physics, while initially sounding like
hyperbole, really isn t (Gates, cited in Detmarr, 2009,p.20)
Why is Highway 61 revisited such a culturally important album?
The year is1965, 8 years into the Vietnam war and 2 years in the shadow of a presidential
assassination, marked the inception of an artistic vision, cut to Vinyl. Bob Dylan s Highway 61
revisited is a testament to the state of America in the 1960s, using poetic devices, and engaging rock
and roll music to capture the imagination of a breadth of people, unwittingly, it would seem, brought
change to the minds of Americans. Opening their eyes to what was happening and inflicting a sense of
new found justice in their hearts, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1959 Robert left home to attend the University of Minnesota. Shortly after enrolling in the
university, Robert was offered a gig at a venue named the ten o clock scholar coffee house, the owner
David Lee was auditioning for folk singers, when he turned up to play and was asked his name,
Robert replied Bob Dylan which he has refuted as meaning anything other than just what came to him
when interviewed later. Robert dropped out of University at the end of his first year in 1960; 5 years
later he would release one of the biggest works of his career, Highway 61 revisited.
Highway 61 revisited has a deep rooted reality within its imagery that the youth of the 60s could
poignantly relate to, In a time when social boundaries were breaking down, and society had a more
relaxed view of such issues as racism, (after the signing into law of the civil rights act) and sexism, the
swinging sixties where the perfect backdrop for an album that is rife with statements of politics, war,
class, race, and the general state of America in this time.
Like a rolling stone
The first track of the album, clocking in at 6:10 was ground breaking for its time, as it was the first
extended play single to be put on the radio. Bob Dylan s like a rolling stone is a testament to his
departure from his old sound in earlier works, featuring in the

Vocal Jazz Ensemble Concert Report
Vocal Jazz Ensemble The concert that I went to the Vocal Jazz Ensemble on the date of May 21.
Performance from the Vocal Jazz Ensemble and special guest Final Note Us, both group performed
extremely well and sang great songs. The concert consisted of eight songs, two from Final Note Us
group and six from the main performers Vocal Jazz Ensemble. There were thirteen vocalist in the
opening group and a pianist, while the main group had twelve vocalist, one pianist, one bass, and one
drum. Before hand going to the concert I thought it would ve been the same boring concert I been to,

Cruel Optimism And Grotesque In Winesburg, Ohio
Cruel Optimism and Grotesque in Hands , Winesburg, Ohio
Sherwood Anderson (1876 1941), an American short story writer and novelist, is famous for
subjective and self revealing works. In Winesburg, Ohio (1919), a collection of short stories, Anderson
wrote about citizens in Winesburg, Ohio; most of the characters are grotesque, misunderstanding,
inability to articulate, and alienation in society. The grotesques should be pitied rather than dismissed.
They have dream of ambition; they try to live for their desire; however, their dream that they
embraced become a falsehood. In the link with Anderson s idea, Lauren Berlant, George M. Pullman
Distinguished Service Professor of English at the University of Chicago, has argued on the notion of
cruel optimism or a phenomena that many people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the The Grotesque: First Principles , Geoffrey Harpham defines grotesque almost as fluid as that of
beauty, is good for one era even one man at a time. (Harpham 461). Harpham supposes that the
grotesque is not consistent for conceptual accuracy, can be changed its definition depend on what the
author want to delivery to their reader. In the piece, hands ,Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson,
Wing Biddlebaum represents for grotesques characters that are unconnected, unhappy and unfulfilled.
For most of the stories in Winesburg, Ohio, grotesques defined as the people took one of the truths to
himself, called it his truth, and tried to live his life by it, he became a grotesque and the truth he
embraced became a falsehood . (Sherwood Anderson). A person made the truths for himself and each
truth is a compound of many great specific thoughts. It is believed that all about in the world is the
truths, and they are beautiful. The truths that people pursuit can be the truth of virginity, passion,
wealth and poverty, thrift and profligacy, carelessness and abandon; however, finally, all of these
truths turn out nihilistic

A Comparison Of Nicholas And The American Restoration...
Allen Diles, in A Comparison of Nicholas of Pelhrimov and the Taborite Restoration with Alexander
Campbell and the American Restoration Movement, attempts to relate religious movements that
occurred more than four centuries apart: the Taborite Restoration and the American Restoration.
Further focus is place on the leaders of these movements, Nicholas of Pelhrimov and Alexander
Campbell. A connection between these two men is scarcely made; moreover, many students of religion
are ignorant to the existence of the Taborite Restoration and Nicholas of Pelhrimov. Diles endeavor to
connect these men and the reformation movements they were involved in was lucrative, as it
connected a semi modern movement with a little known medieval movement, but his presentation of
the connection between these movements prevents the connection from emerging in a manner as
compelling as it possibly could have. Diles composes his article in response to the neglect of the
Hussite movement, of which the Taborites formed the radical wing of, in modern times and the often
exclusion of Nicholas of Pelhrimov, an individual whom he feels was critical, when the Hussite
movement is studied. In his thesis, Diles states, Although Nicholas himself is obscure to Americans
and among scholars of the Stone Campbell Movement, the Taborite movement is rarely mentioned,
and examination of Nicholas and his movement reveals striking similarities in thought, if not in form,
between the medieval Taborite reform and that

The Importance Of Physical And Physical Change In Life
Waking up in the morning up north is the ideal way to live. No service, great food, family, and fun
activities all in the warm summer sun are like a dream. As I woke up one hot summer day I went to the
kitchen to eat my breakfast which consisted of me peeling fresh oranges and bananas; which got me
thinking of science class when we talked about physical and chemical changes. Physical change is the
original substance that still exists it has only changed in form. Pelling fruit is a physical change
because it is still the same fruit. Eating my breakfast I Thought more about physical and chemical
changes and how my daily doings contribute to that Idea. I really Wanted to catch some raise from the
sun so I grab my glass of water a towel and head out to the dock. A chemical change is the atoms of
one or more substances and a change in their chemical properties or composition, resulting in the
formation of at least one new substance, producing odor, smoke, or effervescing. I noticed that the
poles of the dock were rusting which was a chemical change because of the metal reacting to the air
over time and creating rust. As im tanning I sit up to take a drink of my water and notice that it
evaporated which is a physical change because The water is still there there is just less of it. After I
was done tanning I got up to go get ready to go out on the boat, I went up to the boat to find that the
tire on the trailer was flat. This is a physical change because it is still a

Geology Midterm Review
Introduction to Geology GEOL 101
Midterm 1 Review
Based on the textbook: Understanding Earth, 6th Edition, by Grotzinger and Press
CH 1: earth system
Summary
The human creative process, field and lab observations, and experiments help geoscientists formulate
testable hypotheses (models) for how the Earth works and its history. A hypothesis is a tentative
explanation focusing attention on plausible features and relationships of a working model. If a testable
hypothesis is confirmed by a large body of data, it may be elevated to a theory. Theories are
abandoned when subsequent investigations show them to be false. Confidence grows in those theories
that withstand repeated tests and successfully predict the results of new ... Show more content on

Questions being addressed include:
Where do the plate driving forces originate?
At what depth does recycling occur?
What is the nature of rising Convection Currents?
The assembly and subsequent break up of Pangaea represent a striking example of the effects of plate
tectonics acting over geologic time. The story begins with the breakup of the ancient supercontinent of
Rodinia 750 million years ago. Plate tectonic processes dispersed the fragments of Rodinia forming a
system of ancient continents that existed from the late Proterozoic through much of the Paleozoic.
Continued tectonic movement eventually resulted in a set of continental collisions and reformation of
the ancient continents into Pangaea. Assembly was completed during the early Triasic, about
240 million years ago. Then, about 200 million years ago the rift that would evolve into the Atlantic
Ridge began to open and the separation of Pangaea was underway. By the beginning of the Cenezoic,
India was well on its way to Asia, and the Tethys sea that had separated Africa from Eurasia began to
close into the modern inland sea that we know as the Mediterranean. Continued changes during the
Cenozoic produced our modern world and its geography.

Annotated Bibliography On Media And Health Media
TOPIC: I am studying media and health media and the portrayal or use of gender because I want to
find out how and why media incorporates an all female or an all male campaign in their marketing or
messages.
Annotated Bibliography
Davies, C., Burns, K. (2014). Mediating healthy female citizenship in the HPV vaccination
campaigns. Feminist Media Studies 14(5), 711 726.
The authors of Mediating healthy female citizenship in the HPV vaccination campaigns compare and
contrast Merck s HPV gardasil campaign against HPV Boredom campaign which comes from a
smaller base and a youtube channel. The authors have three claims to argue. The first one they are
trying to prove is that national campaigns try and reflect this new public health that is referred by
Allan Petterson and Deborah Lupton (1996). This new public health is the process of neoliberal
government that comes up with new knowledge that encourages healthy living and effects that
contains of a healthy citizenship, as said by (Davies Burns 2014). The second key argument is that it is
primarily directed at young women. The authors believe that Merck s has mobilized neoliberal
discourses of responsibility, choice and risk. The third key argument the authors makes is that HPV
Boredom shows the role of new media with a different approach to getting their message across to
young women. The authors concluded that their are different approaches and feel as if anyone was to
do a campaign they should share all the important

Persuasive Essay On Adoption
No not all couples can have a child to love and raise but there is a great opportunity for them to have a
child to love and care for, and that is call adoption. People adopt children for so many reason. It
provides a possibility for an unwanted child to have a home and be loved and had a happy life. There
are so many people adopted and that has changed their life. Don t you wonder where Steve Jobs,
Jamie Foxx, and Babe Ruth would be if they weren t adopted? And I do wonder where I would be if I
wasn t adopted.
One reason why people choose to adopt is because they are unable to conceive kids, or because they
have had miscarriages and don t want to risk losing their child again. Some might adopt stepchildren
or children of family members who aren t financially stable to support their child.
The adoption process can be very long. There is a 10 step process from the NAC (National Adoption
Center) website that states that step number one is to learn about adoption. The next step is to choose
an adoption agency. Step number three is having a home study completed. Number four is trying to
find a child, and then give your info to the child s agency. After you get info about the child you chose
then you can go meet the child. Step number eight is to get a date where you can actually receive the
child. Next you can finalize everything with the adoption. The final step is to live a happy life.
There are 2 different types of adoption. One is international, and the next is

How Does Illegal Immigration Affect Society
There is a massive amount of illegals living in the United States today. More than 11 million
undocumented aliens currently reside in the United States. This number is continuously increasing
because the illegal immigration rate is growing by 700,000 per year (Kane). Large masses of
immigrants who continuously enter the US illegally, in desire for a better lifestyle, cause major
damage and destruction to America. The effects and threats that these illegals impose to the well being
of America and its people is problematic. Illegal immigration is an issue in American society because
it increases criminal activity, strains governmental programs, and raises unemployment rates.

This harsh reality of unemployment only hurts the American people and its economy. Unemployment
is defined as an individual who did not have a job but actively sought one in the past four weeks
(Meyers). The millions of illegal aliens who obtain jobs in the US are willing to work at wages that
would be impossible for Americans to make ends meet. These low skilled jobs have become flooded
with illegal workers and ultimately forces millions of Americans into unemployment. The number of
illegal immigrants in the United States totaled 11.3 million in 2014, outnumbering the 9.6 million
Americans who were unemployed in the same year, according to data from Pew Research Center and
the Bureau of Labor Statistics (Meyer). The higher unemployment rate brought upon illegal laborers
hurts the American economy as a whole. As unemployment rate increase, it negatively affects the
economy s debt, taxes and overall growth because each American citizen that loses a job is no longer
able to pay debts or taxes, and thud spends less ( How does the unemployment rate affect the
economy? ). Ultimately, the US economy suffers greatly from the arrival of illegal

What Is The Mood Of The Poem Valentine By Carol Ann Duffy
The poem, Valentine, by Carol Ann Duffy, is the epitome of how conventional love and events such as
Valentine s Day is pure asinine and downright ludicrous. She illustrates this by utilising a myriad of
literary techniques, such as symbolism, imagery and word choice; in order to reveal the realities of
love. It can be disputed that Duffy allows her readers to fathom the enigmatic feeling known as love
through Valentine. Duffy s coherent use of language features help depict and accentuate this in
Valentine, by enabling her readers to feel a sense of sincerity rather than the cliched ethereal facade
which is masqueraded in sugar, spice, and everything nice.
Throughout the poem, Duffy utilises the use of symbolism to compare love to an onion. This
symbolises, that although love is said to be euphoric, it can also provoke tears. An example of this can
be seen in lines 7 and 8 where Duffy says, It will blind you with tears like a lover. By this, she means
that onions contain a strong chemical in which causes us to cry when we cut them; similar to when we
are crying over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is especially evident in lines nine and ten where she says It will make your reflection a wobbly
photo of grief. This is implying that onions bring anguish and discomfort whilst being cut which
causes us to cry. Their chemical compound causes tears and when crying, everything we see appears
wobbly. From this example, the author makes the reader visualise a grimaced face of tears and grief
whilst looking at their reflection which appears wobbly. The word photo implies an ephemeral
moment that was captured, the word wobbling allows us to assume that tears were spilt causing their
vision to become hazy, hence leaving behind a wobbling photo of grief. Yet again, Duffy has managed
to make effective use of a language feature in order to change the readers perception of

Reflection On Organizational Change
I first off would like to start by saying these past 8 weeks have been a great experience! I have been
able to learn and gain new skills and tools that will not only help me in the rest of my schooling, but
will be very beneficial when it comes to my career. I have really enjoyed getting to see all different
experiences out there and a variety of perspectives on what one has done or not when in that situation.
It certainly has opened my eyes up to the world and I feel I am more aware and ready for what might
come my way now. Although after reading the Let s Drive a Stake In the Heart of the Industrial Age!
you never really know what s going to happen next. I plan to use all the OB tools that I have been able
to learn about in this term to assist the transformational process in organizational models. Using these
tools will help this process go more smoothly and make it easier not only for the company but for the
employees and customers. The transformational process in any company is hard and can be very
challenging during a time like this. I believe that change is challenging just from my experiences and
that it can take more time than one thinks or wants it to. I personally am not a fan of change, so when
there is a change going on in my personal or professional life I hope it is quick and easy (which it is
rarely ever). I have learned though change is good. As much as I may hate it, it is necessary and it
cannot be avoided. I learned these past weeks and have seen examples where some individuals in a
company will resist change, even leaders, and that is where I find the OB tools to help and make the
change as easy as possible for everyone in the company. I know this is something I will do to assist the
transformational process in organizational models in my future company. I will use the strategies we
have learned in this course to help and be more effective. One concept in this course I have learned
and it has stuck with me is focusing on employees. Without good relationships with employees and
making sure they are happy and acknowledged the work within the company will not get done
effectively and efficiently. As a manager, I will make sure that all employees are managed, able to

Robert Bly s Influence On American Literature
Poet and storyteller Robert Bly, considerable influence on American literature, in this excerpt from
The Sibling Society (1996), Bly argues and states about change of our society and starts the interesting
introduction in a strange way with hidden meanings to lead to his point of what it really means to be
an adult in the modern society. This passage is not completely a book as whole and was put together
partially for college student to read the main focus point of the author. Bly makes points back and
forth in his essay of in the between paternalistic society and the sibling society that he observed and
argues the differences. He blames the first generation because of their disrespect of authority to let
down in traditional values that failed to provide a moral compass for the young. The strong point of
this book is his description of a disturbing development in modern society that denies to become a
fully adult. Admiration for elders has disappeared and forgotten, tradition has worn out, and families
are being ignored.
Writer Bly, talks about during his generation, paternal society, being uniformity and how they had an
elaborate and internally consistent form (250) during paternal society, kids learned how to talk to the
adults, to be respectful and responsible at school yet, they still asked for their authority when to make
decisions. He says hundred years ago men and women in photograph express in a way We re adults.

The Air Traffic Control System
At this instant there, are 6,204 aircraft in the sky courtesy of FlightRadar24. But by the time you are
reading this, there can be more than 5,000 aircrafts in the sky. Throughout the day, Air Traffic Control
handles more than 50,000 flights on any given day. Air Traffic Control has come a long way since it
first was established in Newark, New Jersey on July 6, 1936. It has grown from just three towers to an
outstanding 131 federal stand alone airport towers, 132 towers for terminal approach and 21 en route
control towers (Jones). This expansion of Air Traffic Control could not have been done without the
help of the United States government and the Federal Aviation Administration. To further this
expansion, I believe that the Air Traffic Control should be privatized. With the Air Traffic Control
privatized, it would speed up the development of NextGen, increase safety and efficiency, and create a
self funded private organization.
There is currently a new Air Traffic Control system being developed. This system is called NextGen.
NextGen is a GPS system, which will give pilots more precise information on other planes
whereabouts. It is a change from ground based radar to the more advanced and accurate satellite
surveillance. This would allow aircraft to take off in more direct routes and shorter intervals
(VerBruggen). With the idea of more direct routes, it would be projected to save about 1.4 billion
gallons of aviation fuel and would save the environment more than 14

How Textiles And Fashion Designers Have Contributed And...
SUSTAINABILITY ESSAY Explore and comment on how textiles and fashion designers have
contributed and approached fundamental issues within ecological design. INTRODUCTION
Ecological design is the sole responsibility of innovation and the creativity of products and objects
that will sustain our society and future societies. It is critical that we change the way sustainable
design is perceived and interpreted, by beginning to develop an understanding of the history and
journey from Green design into Sustainable design as well as looking at the direction in which we
would like it to progress to. This requires a comprehension of what these initial terms mean and how
this relates to their cultural, social and economic context, all of ... Show more content on

Finally, scrutinizing the information to form a conclusive paragraph reevaluating whether future
designers are considering these issues and whether a new sustainable design mentality is evolving.
GREEN, ECOLOGICAL OR SUSTAINABLE Concepts of ecological design are not necessarily new
or modern; it s the nature of re inventing and re visiting that the term is founded upon. But there are
differences between the terms, some more subtle than others. Typically Green design is associated
with getting the environmental message out there to the masses, focusing more on the environmental
issues and looking into plentiful natural resources. The key words being masses and plentiful, instead
of a less is more mentality that starts to be adopted in Ecological design this suggests a substitution of
product to fill that consumerism addiction. Green design became particularly popular in the 1980 s,
due to a foundation built by the environmental movement of the late 60 s and 70 s, which sparked a
growing awareness into environmental issues; it becomes a pinnacle point of where Ecological design
meets the mainstream. In an extract from Ecological Design: A new critique, Pauline Madge (1997,
p.44) informs us that because green encapsulated green politics, current environmental concerns, and
identified them with a specific colour, in an unprecedented way, green design arrived with a ready
made symbolism: green products, green packaging, and numerous books

The Narrative Structure Of The Afternoon ( 1942 )
The narrative structure in Meshes of the Afternoon (1942) is unique in that it uses abstract symbolism
to transfer all narrative information to the audience, forcing the audience to actively engage with the
narrative in order to piece together the plot and how it relates the story, if there is one being told at all.
Meshes is told with distinctive narrative structure that relies on different interpretations for one to
understand the purpose it serves as a work of cinema. The purpose of Meshes can be seen to represent,
embody, or exemplify possible ways of seeing and being in the world itself. The artisanal and avant
garde style of Meshes, with its unclear chronological sequencing coupled with its overt referencing to
a dream state, serves to explore the way in which director Maya Deren felt about her world, one she
allowed us to peer into through the lens of her camera. Meshes also relies on its aesthetics as its
primary form of language, with symbolic communication contributing to its poetic form. Meshes also
largely employs an expressive form of emphasis through its use of mis en scene, as the entire film can
be seen as the subconscious expression of Maya Deren s thoughts of her life, specifically of her
relationship with her husband Alexander Hammid. Meshes also uses a poetic form of emphasis in
terms of the style of its narrative, with each repetition of actions serving as a stanza for the film, which
unfolds in the form of a poem.
The visual form of the narrative is

Piaget
Jean Piaget Intelligence Piaget was opposed to defining intelligence in terms of the number of items
answered correctly on a so called intelligence test. (Olson amp; Hergenhahn, 20090 To him
intelligence is what allows an organism to deal effectively with its environment. Intelligence changes
constantly because both the environment and the organism change constantly. Intelligence is a
dynamic trait because what is available as an intelligent act will change as the organism matures
biologically and it gains experience. (Olson amp; Hergenhahn, 2009) It is an important part of all
living organisms because they seek those conditions for survival. How intelligence manifests will vary
as conditions vary. This theory is often referred to as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The restoration of balance in the cognitive structure also creates the ability to attain new and different
interactions with the environment. This accommodation causes a change in the cognitive structure and
if these situations are encountered again it does not cause an imbalance because the cognitive structure
has changed and that assimilation is no longer and issue. The dual mechanisms of assimilation and
accommodation, along with the driving force of equilibration, provide for a slow but steady
intellectual growth. Interiorization Children s early interactions with the environment are strictly
sensorimotor. With increasing experience, children expand their cognitive structure, enabling them to
better adapt to the increasing number of situations they encounter. The gradual decreasing dependence
on the physical environment and the increased utilization of cognitive structures is called
interiorization. (Olson amp; Hergenhahn, 2009) As the cognitive structure grows and develops it
makes more complex problem solving possible. As the process of interiorization continues, the child s
adaptive response becomes more covert; Piaget called these actions operations (thinking). The most
important characteristic of operations is it is reversible. Once something has been thought it can be
undone or unthought . As a child s cognitive structure develops, thinking becomes more important. In
early childhood, the use of operations depends on

Canada Is Not The Peace Of The United Nations
Canada, was once a respected peacekeeper now a disgrace to its past. Canada was once the primary
contributor to the United Nations for peacekeeping. Now Canada is not even close to being regarded
as a contributor. Even the people in Canada do not think that Canada has any involvement in the
peacekeeping business. Many people looked at Canada as a symbol of peace which many still do, but
most do not know that Canada has fled from its old ways and now is just an image of the past. Canada
is no longer presented as a peacekeeping country. Therefore Canada is not the peace keeping country
it used to be because of its lack of support to the United Nations, Canada s opinion on its duty as a

Canada contributes nothing to the world of peacekeeping. Canada disgraces its past image by not
being a piece of the puzzle to peacekeeping. It is an abnormality that peacekeeping that no longer
relates to the Canadian society. The previous statistics as a peacekeeper are drastically different than
the current stats. High of 3,336, started at 850. As of Sept 2014 118 (Shepard) Canada s participation
in peacekeeping has changed over the past years from prominent to non existent. If Canada was once

nothing compared to the past as they are a disappointment to their past peacekeeping image. In
conclusion Canada no longer has the reputation as a peacekeeper due to its lack of contribution. Along
with Canada s lack of contribution, Canada s political figures do not consider Canada a peacekeeper.
The previous Prime Minister Stephen Harper had his own opinion of Canada and peacekeeping.
Stephen Harper says (Canada) out of the peacekeeping business . The fact that the Prime Minister

The Beating Heart Of The Seven Gables
The Beating Heart of The House of the Seven Gables Nathaniel Hawthorne extensively weaves
symbolism into the pages of The House of the Seven Gables to bring the house and the items within it
to life. The use of gothic elements within the house directly reflects upon the decaying of the
Pyncheon family. Their once lively home stands as a constant reminder of the family s legacy. The
Pyncheon mansion strongly represents the decaying of the Pyncheon family over time. In the early
1800 s, when the house was first built, the Pyncheons were a thriving, wealthy, and influential family.
However, as time goes on, the house starts to become an eerie residence in the same way the
Pyncheon s glory fades. The author describes the darkness of the ... Show more content on

harpsichord. The harpsichord plays beautiful melodies that still echo through the house. They serve as
a constant reminder of Alice s spirit. However, the instrument representing a coffin reminds those who
wonder about Alice s legacy of her tragic ending. By using a coffin like harpsichord, Hawthorne
employs a dual symbol to an item. Much like how the house causes unease to those who dare glance
in its direction, the painting of Colonel Pyncheon lets off the same threatening vibe. The glare the old
Pyncheon holds in the portrait keeps people who observe the artwork from attempting to remove it
from the wall. Hawthorne writes, there

Comparing Henry David Thoreau, Mohandas K. Gandhi, And...
Henry David Thoreau, Mohandas K. Gandhi, and Nelson Mandela, were three different people with
almost the same thoughts. These three brave men fought for what they believe it was right. They all
had different opinions of the government. Some of them were send to jail but they never kept quiet
because their way of being spiritual, optimism, and Individualism.
Henry David Thoreau, was one of the bravest man. His way of defending himself was amazingly
done. He, who speak for what is was wrong of the government. This is some of his words, his opinion
of course, They only can force me who obey a higher law than I, They force me to become
themselves. I do not hear of men being force me to live this way or that by makes of men . In this
quote I believe that the government wants to make you and control you. As long as you let them, they

Calfee And CAFE Standards
CAFE is an acronym for Corporate Average Fuel Economy. As stated in, Will Corporate Average Fuel
Economy Help, CAFÉ standards became prevalent by Congress in 1975 after the oil crisis of the 1970
s. These standards were proposed in order to help the United States depend less on foreign oil (Sen et
al. 2017, p. 279). The idea of CAFÉ standards does not only help us rely less on foreign oil, but it also
reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Below general information about CAFÉ and the CAFÉ standards
that are current today will be described. As described above, CAFÉ was first introduced after the 1973
oil crisis. Congress needed to find solutions to reduce our reliance on oil imported from other
countries. CAFÉ requires car and light truck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, lightweight cars are not seen as an issue because of the advancements we have made in
technology. However, during the mid 1970 s to 1980 s, consumers were correlating that the rise in
automobile fatalities was correlated to CAFÉ s standards with fuel efficiency. During this time of
concern, it was concluded that better fuel efficiency could be accomplished by technologies that were
available at the time and these technologies would not change the weight of the automobile (Schmidt
2002, pg.468). Technology is always advancing. During the time of safety concerns, people did not
necessarily realize that improved technology would be launched in the years to come (Bezdek and
Wendling 2003, p. 409).
How have CAFÉ standards progressed and what are the requirements for new car models? Starting in
May of 2010, former President Barack Obama, the National Highway Traffic and Safety
Administration (NHTSA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), all administered Final
Rules for automobiles built in 2017 through 2021 (United States Department of Transportation 2014).
The regulations were aimed towards CAFÉ and Greenhouse Gas emissions for cars and light trucks.
Along with cars and light trucks, there were also regulations set in place for medium and heavy duty
trucks. The only difference is that the heavier trucks are years 2014 to 2018. Cars and light trucks will

2a. Steven failed to do several things as a Project Manager. He failed to deliver the product on time
and within budget, as well as managing expectations. His failures were a result of poor planning,
prompt or advance requesting of resources, and a failure to communicate with his team, management
and the end user. Steve s job as the PM is to monitor progress, ensure key stakeholders keep their
people focused on the task and prevent delays, or if delays occur communicate those issues to
management. Managing stake holders and keeping them focused on requirements and due dates goes a
long way towards preventing problems. Steve seems to have failed at this.
2b. Using the creeping requirements as an excuse seems to be a mistake as it implies project
mismanagement. If the project had been properly monitored scope creep could have been detected

Gender Discrimination in Emergency Medical Services Essay
Gender Discrimination in Emergency Medical Services
*No Works Cited The tones go off, there is a scramble for shirts, ties, and boots. Dispatch announces a
motor vehicle accident five blocks away. EMTs and Paramedics climb into ambulances. Police are
reporting multiple personal injuries. There is a rush of adrenaline through all those involved. The
street comes alive with flashing red and white lights and screaming sirens. Ambulances tear down the
street to the accident scene. They arrive to find four cars involved in a high speed collision. There are
seven people involved in this particular accident. Additional trucks are requested and the original
scene repeats itself as three more teams join the first two at the scene. ... Show more content on

They speculate about the condition of their patient, the other patients at the scene, and their co
workers. Things are beginning to return to the calmness that exists between calls.
Having been exposed to a typical accident scene that most emergency medical personnel are used to
working can be somewhat shocking. There are many questions, which arise after working a call like
that just described. The one I would like to focus on is what were the names of the EMTs and
Paramedics involved in the accident scene depicted? Jeff, Will, and John? Or could they possibly have
been Charlene, Lee, and Tracy?
Even in today s world of political correctness, there is still a very large gender bias when it comes to
certain things, such as Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The number of men in the field is much
higher than the number of women. Women, for the most part, are looked at as not being as capable of
performing what is required of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or a Paramedic as men are.
EMTs and Paramedics are required to make split second, possibly life saving decisions, lift large
amounts of weight, and work long hours in all conditions. Since most women are physically smaller
than most men are, they are viewed as not being strong enough to lift patients or equipment in many
situations.
A personal example that proves this point happened to

Stem Cell Therapy Research Paper
VIII Methods of Stem Cell Delivery
A major goal of cardiac stem cell therapy is to transplant enough cells into the myocardium at the site
of injury or infarction to maximize restoration of function. Several different approaches currently are
being used to deliver stem cells. The intracoronary infusion involves the infusion of cells into a
coronary artery, usually during a brief coronary occlusion produced by inflating a balloon at the tip of
the catheter. This method of delivery offers several advantages: (1) it results in a much more uniform
distribution of cells within the infarcted region, (2) it does not require specialized training or the
purchase of specialized equipment, and (3) it is technically easier, more practical and widespread ...

The classic idea that provided the primary motivation for stem cell therapy is that delivery of the
appropriate stem cells would repair a damaged heart via active myocardial regeneration resulting from
transdifferentiation of the administered stem cells.19 Some researchers believe that exogenous stem
cells may also stimulate proliferation of endogenous cardiac precursors or stem cells through
neovascularization or paracrine signaling actions. Other state that exogenous stem cells may lead to
cardiac repair via fusion of donor cells with host cardiomyocytes.20 Other suggest that, the effects of
stem cells are mediated by altering mechanical properties to strengthen the MI scar, thereby
preventing deterioration in cardiac function, inflammation and diminished vascular supply causes
many cells to die within seven days after transplantation16, 17

Social Inequalities In Northern Ireland
Social inequalities are issues that have been occurring for a significant period of time and are
continuing to be a serious issue within contemporary society. One of the most significant social
inequalities within the North and South of Ireland is religion. Religion is a vital part of Ireland s
history and due to this history, it still very much exists within society and continues to be a social
inequality. The Northern Ireland conflict, also known as The Troubles , was a war based on political
violence, low intensity armed conflict and political deadlock within the six north eastern counties of
Ireland that formed part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland which lasted
almost 30 years (The Irish Story, 2017). It was a conflict between political actors including the
Provisional Irish Republican Army that fought against the British Army, Royal Ulster Constabulary
and the Ulster Defence Regiment (The Irish Story, 2017). Dillenburger, K et al, (2007) stated during
the early phase of the Troubles, shootings and bombings were nearly daily occurrences, with
approximately 3,600 people dying as a result of The Troubles.
However, the Troubles represent a fascinating part of Ireland s history with a large number of deaths,
injuries, and destruction but also a huge political and social change (McKittrick and McVea 2002). By
1998 the Good Friday Agreement was signed by both Nationalist and Unionists as a peace process
within Northern Ireland. Research carried out

The Video London Underground Dinner Party
The video London Underground Dinner Party displays many different aspects of culture within the
London commuter community. The video shows a group of young people setting up a table and sitting
down to eat food together in the middle of the train. Interestingly, there are different microcultures
present on this one train cart made up of ten to thirty people at a time. Those involved, receive very
different and varying interactions with the others present on the train. These responses and interactions
represent the differences in cultures throughout this small train car. Specifically, in the forms of
knowledge, behavior and the cultural artifacts found throughout the video. This video is only a few
minutes in length, but is able to show so much if you look closely and pause the video from time to
time. In the forms of cultural knowledge the boy had set up the table and waited for his friends to
arrive. Once they had arrived the boy shook their hands to greet them and welcomed them to the table.
After many of the people arrived, they began talking and engaging in eye contact which is another
form of cultural knowledge specific to theirs. Passing food from one person to another and then to
those positioned away from the table. In some cultures sharing food is seen as a polite, bonding
gesture as it is displayed in the video. Another cultural knowledge specific to some, is the cheers that
are given before a meal using glasses, however on this train they displayed cheers at

The Laboratory Of Neural Systems
I joined the Laboratory of Neural Systems, Decision Science, Learning and Memory (NSDSLM), also
known as the Mizumori laboratory on April 2015. Mizumori laboratory is a laboratory located in the
psychology department of University of Washington, Seattle. Its primary focus is to understand the
neural mechanism of natural and adaptive behaviors. Spatial navigation, a behavior central for an
animal s survival has remained the model under analysis in this laboratory. The principal investigator
of this lab, and my primary research mentor is Dr. Sheri Mizumori. Upon joining the Mizumori
laboratory, I have been shadowing the postdoctoral research associate of the Mizumori laboratory, Dr.
Philip Baker. He introduced me to laboratory research study and facilitated in the progressive
improvement of my comprehension in neuroscience research.
The initial study that I began working on with Dr. Baker was about lateral habenula s (LHb)
involvement in behavior switching when presented with a cue. The LHb is a structure identified for its
role in signaling negative outcomes or cues (Bomberg Martin et al, 2011; Proulex et al, 2014). It
projects to dopaminergic, serotoninergic, and norepinephrine systems that are acknowledged to be
important when switches in behavior are required (Robbins and Arnsten, 2009; Lecourtier and Kelly,
2007). My responsibilities in this study mainly included handling and training rats, recording of rat
behaviors through a series of sensors and robotic doors around

Essay about A Blessing James Wright
In the poem A Blessing, James Wright analyzes the relationship between human beings and nature
through the descriptive explanation of an encounter between his friend and himself and two Indian
horses. He shows that although we are able to relate and interact with the animals we don t have the
ability to join them or as Wright puts it: break into blossom (26 27). Wright uses imagery and
personification to describe the nature he witnesses as he escapes from the stress of human life. The
ponies in this poem are personified by comparing them to human beings, mainly through the
description of their emotions. This personification lessens the gap between the author and the horses
and separates him from civilization represented by the highways ... Show more content on

This point is proved further as A light breezes moves [the author] to caress [the ponies] long ear (23),
showing that nature itself is encouraging the merging of the two sides, because the wind encourages
the hand to pet the horses ear. Another simile is used to describe the horse s ear as delicate as the skin
over a girl s wrist (24), again blurring the line between human and nature. Finally Wright comes to the
realization that if he were blessed enough he would be able to step out of his body and break into
blossom, thus becoming a part of nature. But, he realizes that is past the realm of reality and therefore
cannot be done.
Wright examines the relationship of human being and nature using his descriptive language including
such devices as imagery and similes. Wright sees the idea of nature and humans joining as one as a
possible feat and he shows this though his written experience with these Indian ponies. He initially
shows the contrast of the two worlds, but they grow on each other and end up becoming one. Wright
sees the loneliness of the ponies, gains their affection, as the ponies are very welcoming. He ultimately
ends up wanting to join them by being able to break into blossom (26 27), but he is unable to do so
because he reached the maximum threshold of the union between humans and nature. Which brings us
back to the Wright is able to disregard the average day for humans and take a day to appreciate the
true value of nature in its

Significance Of The Zoot Suit
There are three iconic symbols of the presence of Mexican Americans in the history of the United
States: The role of Mexican Americans in the WWII, the Bracero movement, and the Zoot Suit Riot.
All three moments provide insight on the participation of Hispanics in the construction of the
American society and more importantly, on the way the Mexican American identity has been
constructed and on the ways this community has been considered, in general terms, a group of
domestic aliens. As a consequence, Mexican Americans have been segregated and denied equal
opportunity historically. However, they are here to stay, an Anglos better learn to deal with their

This attire became a symbol of identity of Mexican Americans in the California area and those men
who wanted to contest the life conditions and the social and economic situation of their community.
Wearing the Zoot Suit became a symbol of identity that would later be criminalized. The soot suit
consisted of an oversized suit, a very long jacket and exaggerated pants; with very especial
characteristics. One of the most distinctive accessories was the watch chain hanging from the pants,
between the legs, a symbol of their manhood. The other significant element was the real leather soled
shoes. These two traits were especially shocking for those who did not accept the community: They
were symbols of a more open sexuality and a disregard for the rationing policy that reign in the
country. The zoot suit became a strong political symbol due to the Zoot Suit Riot and the Sleepy
Lagoon murder, two shocking events that derailed the relationships between Anglos and Mexican
Americans. The first one occurred on May 31st, 1943, when a group of youngsters dressed in zoot
suits were attacked by Anglo youths, many of them in Navy attire. The second one took place on

Introduction
Single parenting is one of the most important issues in world. People were not except the idea of
single parenting, that one of the parents has the responsibility to take care of the child. They believe
that one hand cannot clap. They see that the child should live with his parents not one of them.
Nowadays, single parenting become the phenomenon of the time , which mean we can find a lot of

Grounding both parents in the child s life is also important, it s important to involve both parents
equally, even when the child may only be living with one. Communication is key; a parent should
never ignore what their child is saying, because they might be saying something that is very important
to them. Parents need to make sure they communicate with both each other and their children, about
the child s everyday life.
Advantages of single parenting
There are several advantages of single parenting .first, No compromises. You get to be the sole
decision maker. With big decisions, especially if you have an amicable co parenting relationship, you
may have to occasionally consult the other parent. But, for the most part, you get to decide .second,
less stress when you are not spending your time and energy fighting with your husband you feel
happier .also, you child feel comfortable this create less stress in your home .you finally have the time
and energy to spend with your child and you feel happy. Third, children feel like part of the team.
Since you will be spending much more time with them alone, they will probably have more of a voice
in family decisions. They will learn that what they have to say matters and that willing to listen to
their opinions. Finally, one less child to care for taking care of kids is one thing, things do get very

Organ And Organ Of Organ Transplantation
Recognized as one of the most gripping medical advances of the century, organ transplantation
provides a way of giving the gift of life to patients with terminal failure of vital organs. Organ
transplantation requires the participation of both fellow human beings and of society by donating
organs from deceased or living individuals. The ever increasing rate of organ failure and the
inadequate supply of organs have created a significant gap between organ supply and organ demand.
This gap has resulted in extremely lengthy waiting times to receive an organ as well as an increased
number of deaths among those waiting for an organ. These events have raised many ethical, moral and
societal issues regarding supply, the methods of organ allocation and the use of living donors as
volunteers including minors. It has also led to the practice of organ sale by entrepreneurs for financial
gains in some parts the world through exploitation of the poor, for the benefit of the wealthy. This
paper presents valuable information regarding organ transplantation while supporting the medical
definition of the term brain death What is brain death? Physicians and other health care professional

The Effect Of Diagenetic Recrystallization On Metal Isotopes
RESEARCH INTERESTS AND HIGHLIGHTS:
My research primarily involves elucidating the effect of diagenetic recrystallization on metal isotopes
(Mg, Ca, and Sr) in marine carbonates and evaluating their reliability as geochemical proxies to
reconstruct the paleoclimatic conditions and chemical evolution of seawater through geologic period.
Geochemical cycling of Mg on the earth s surface involves transfer of Mg from continental rocks to
the ocean followed by reincorporation of Mg into the lithosphere via hydrothermal exchange at the
mid oceanic ridges and through precipitation of carbonate minerals. Since the exogenic cycle of Mg is
directly linked to the global carbon cycle it is invaluable for reconstructing the climatic variability
(e.g. pCO2 and temperature). The Mg isotopic composition (δ26Mg) of seawater is useful to decouple
long term variability of Mg concentration and δ26Mg of the input and output fluxes to the ocean. The
δ26Mg of marine carbonates is a promising proxy for seawater δ26Mg. However, diagenetic
recrystallization of calcite, which is known to impact the trace elemental and isotopic composition of
carbonates significantly, can complicate the carbonate based geochemical proxy interpretation.
Therefore, it is critical to quantify the diagenetic effect on the concentrations and isotopic composition
of trace elements (e.g. Mg, Ca, Sr) in carbonates to facilitate accurate proxy reconstruction.
My doctoral research is focused on quantifying the effect of

Hosea, Jeremiah, and the Deuteronomistic History Essay
Hosea, Jeremiah, and the Deuteronomistic History

The primary goal of the Deuteronomistic History is the perception of Kingship and religion, the word
Deuteronomistic History was first formulated by Martin Noth in 1943. It refers to those historical

I Kings 11: 9 11 the lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the Lord,
the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, and had commanded him concerning this matter,
that he should not follow other gods, but he did not observe what the Lord commanded. Therefore the
lord said to Solomon, since this has been your mind and you have not kept my covenant and my
statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and give it to your
servant. The Deuteronomistic History talks about the kingship of David, Saul and Solomon but
portrays the monarchy as corrupt, improper and always bringing calamity to the people. Hosea uses
his marriage to a prostitute as a means of preaching to the people of Northern Israel. God commanded
Hosea to marry a prostitute named Gomer, the daughter of Diblaim, his Israel past figured
prominently in Hosea s prophecies to Israel. Mercy and judgment are also important themes in Hosea
s message. He was a prophet of eventual hope and immediate doom, given the understanding the
covenant of blessing and curses as outline in the Tora. His message stems from the covenant violation
motif as reflected in the lawsuit YHWH has brought against Israel (Hill and Walton 2009:582 587).
God controversy with Israel was rooted in conflicting religious ideologies of Canaanite Baalism and
Hebrew Yahwism (Hos. 4:4) (Hill and Walton 2009:589). For

Bob Dylan and Popular Music the man who did to popular music what Einstein did to physics, while initially sounding like hyperbole, really isn t (Gates, cited in Detmarr, 2009,p.20) Why is Highway 61 revisited such a culturally important album? The year is1965, 8 years into the Vietnam war and 2 years in the shadow of a presidential assassination, marked the inception of an artistic vision, cut to Vinyl. Bob Dylan s Highway 61 revisited is a testament to the state of America in the 1960s, using poetic devices, and engaging rock and roll music to capture the imagination of a breadth of people, unwittingly, it would seem, brought change to the minds of Americans. Cruel Optimism And Grotesque In Winesburg, Ohio Cruel Optimism and Grotesque in Hands , Winesburg, Ohio Sherwood Anderson (1876 1941), an American short story writer and novelist, is famous for subjective and self revealing works. In Winesburg, Ohio (1919), a collection of short stories, Anderson wrote about citizens in Winesburg, Ohio; most of the characters are grotesque, misunderstanding, inability to articulate, and alienation in society. The grotesques should be pitied rather than dismissed. They have dream of ambition; they try to live for their desire; however, their dream that they embraced become a falsehood. • 5. A Comparison Of Nicholas And The American Restoration... Allen Diles, in A Comparison of Nicholas of Pelhrimov and the Taborite Restoration with Alexander Campbell and the American Restoration Movement, attempts to relate religious movements that occurred more than four centuries apart: the Taborite Restoration and the American Restoration. Further focus is place on the leaders of these movements, Nicholas of Pelhrimov and Alexander Campbell. A connection between these two men is scarcely made; moreover, many students of religion are ignorant to the existence of the Taborite Restoration and Nicholas of Pelhrimov. Diles endeavor to connect these men and the reformation movements they were involved in was lucrative, as it connected a semi modern movement with a little known medieval movement, but his presentation of the connection between these movements prevents the connection from emerging in a manner as compelling as it possibly could have. Diles composes his article in response to the neglect of the Hussite movement, of which the Taborites formed the radical wing of, in modern times and the often exclusion of Nicholas of Pelhrimov, an individual whom he feels was critical, when the Hussite movement is studied. In his thesis, Diles states, Although Nicholas himself is obscure to Americans and among scholars of the Stone Campbell Movement, the Taborite movement is rarely mentioned, and examination of Nicholas and his movement reveals striking similarities in thought, if not in form, between the medieval Taborite reform and that ... • 6. The Importance Of Physical And Physical Change In Life Waking up in the morning up north is the ideal way to live. No service, great food, family, and fun activities all in the warm summer sun are like a dream. As I woke up one hot summer day I went to the kitchen to eat my breakfast which consisted of me peeling fresh oranges and bananas; which got me thinking of science class when we talked about physical and chemical changes. Physical change is the original substance that still exists it has only changed in form. Pelling fruit is a physical change because it is still the same fruit. Eating my breakfast I Thought more about physical and chemical changes and how my daily doings contribute to that Idea. I really Wanted to catch some raise from the sun so I grab my glass of water a towel and head out to the dock. A chemical change is the atoms of one or more substances and a change in their chemical properties or composition, resulting in the formation of at least one new substance, producing odor, smoke, or effervescing. I noticed that the poles of the dock were rusting which was a chemical change because of the metal reacting to the air over time and creating rust. As im tanning I sit up to take a drink of my water and notice that it evaporated which is a physical change because The water is still there there is just less of it. After I was done tanning I got up to go get ready to go out on the boat, I went up to the boat to find that the tire on the trailer was flat. This is a physical change because it is still a ... Questions being addressed include: Where do the plate driving forces originate? At what depth does recycling occur? What is the nature of rising Convection Currents? The assembly and subsequent break up of Pangaea represent a striking example of the effects of plate tectonics acting over geologic time. The story begins with the breakup of the ancient supercontinent of Rodinia 750 million years ago. Plate tectonic processes dispersed the fragments of Rodinia forming a system of ancient continents that existed from the late Proterozoic through much of the Paleozoic. Continued tectonic movement eventually resulted in a set of continental collisions and reformation of the ancient continents into Pangaea. Assembly was completed during the early Triasic, about 240 million years ago. Then, about 200 million years ago the rift that would evolve into the Atlantic Ridge began to open and the separation of Pangaea was underway. By the beginning of the Cenezoic, India was well on its way to Asia, and the Tethys sea that had separated Africa from Eurasia began to close into the modern inland sea that we know as the Mediterranean. Continued changes during the Cenozoic produced our modern world and its geography. • 10. Annotated Bibliography On Media And Health Media TOPIC: I am studying media and health media and the portrayal or use of gender because I want to find out how and why media incorporates an all female or an all male campaign in their marketing or messages. Annotated Bibliography Davies, C., Burns, K. (2014). Mediating healthy female citizenship in the HPV vaccination campaigns. Feminist Media Studies 14(5), 711 726. The authors of Mediating healthy female citizenship in the HPV vaccination campaigns compare and contrast Merck s HPV gardasil campaign against HPV Boredom campaign which comes from a smaller base and a youtube channel. The authors have three claims to argue. The first one they are trying to prove is that national campaigns try and reflect this new public health that is referred by Allan Petterson and Deborah Lupton (1996). This new public health is the process of neoliberal government that comes up with new knowledge that encourages healthy living and effects that contains of a healthy citizenship, as said by (Davies Burns 2014). The second key argument is that it is primarily directed at young women. The authors believe that Merck s has mobilized neoliberal discourses of responsibility, choice and risk. The third key argument the authors makes is that HPV Boredom shows the role of new media with a different approach to getting their message across to young women. The authors concluded that their are different approaches and feel as if anyone was to do a campaign they should share all the important ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Persuasive Essay On Adoption No not all couples can have a child to love and raise but there is a great opportunity for them to have a child to love and care for, and that is call adoption. People adopt children for so many reason. It provides a possibility for an unwanted child to have a home and be loved and had a happy life. There are so many people adopted and that has changed their life. Don t you wonder where Steve Jobs, Jamie Foxx, and Babe Ruth would be if they weren t adopted? And I do wonder where I would be if I wasn t adopted. One reason why people choose to adopt is because they are unable to conceive kids, or because they have had miscarriages and don t want to risk losing their child again. Some might adopt stepchildren or children of family members who aren t financially stable to support their child. The adoption process can be very long. There is a 10 step process from the NAC (National Adoption Center) website that states that step number one is to learn about adoption. The next step is to choose an adoption agency. Step number three is having a home study completed. Number four is trying to find a child, and then give your info to the child s agency. After you get info about the child you chose then you can go meet the child. Step number eight is to get a date where you can actually receive the child. Next you can finalize everything with the adoption. The final step is to live a happy life. There are 2 different types of adoption. One is international, and the next is ... More than 11 million undocumented aliens currently reside in the United States. This number is continuously increasing because the illegal immigration rate is growing by 700,000 per year (Kane). Large masses of immigrants who continuously enter the US illegally, in desire for a better lifestyle, cause major damage and destruction to America. These low skilled jobs have become flooded with illegal workers and ultimately forces millions of Americans into unemployment. • 13. What Is The Mood Of The Poem Valentine By Carol Ann Duffy The poem, Valentine, by Carol Ann Duffy, is the epitome of how conventional love and events such as Valentine s Day is pure asinine and downright ludicrous. She illustrates this by utilising a myriad of literary techniques, such as symbolism, imagery and word choice; in order to reveal the realities of love. It can be disputed that Duffy allows her readers to fathom the enigmatic feeling known as love through Valentine. Duffy s coherent use of language features help depict and accentuate this in Valentine, by enabling her readers to feel a sense of sincerity rather than the cliched ethereal facade which is masqueraded in sugar, spice, and everything nice. Throughout the poem, Duffy utilises the use of symbolism to compare love to an onion. This symbolises, that although love is said to be euphoric, it can also provoke tears. An example of this can be seen in lines 7 and 8 where Duffy says, It will blind you with tears like a lover. By this, she means that onions contain a strong chemical in which causes us to cry when we cut them; similar to when we are crying over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is especially evident in lines nine and ten where she says It will make your reflection a wobbly photo of grief. This is implying that onions bring anguish and discomfort whilst being cut which causes us to cry. Their chemical compound causes tears and when crying, everything we see appears wobbly. From this example, the author makes the reader visualise a grimaced face of tears and grief whilst looking at their reflection which appears wobbly. The word photo implies an ephemeral moment that was captured, the word wobbling allows us to assume that tears were spilt causing their vision to become hazy, hence leaving behind a wobbling photo of grief. Yet again, Duffy has managed to make effective use of a language feature in order to change the readers perception of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Reflection On Organizational Change I first off would like to start by saying these past 8 weeks have been a great experience! I have been able to learn and gain new skills and tools that will not only help me in the rest of my schooling, but will be very beneficial when it comes to my career. I have really enjoyed getting to see all different experiences out there and a variety of perspectives on what one has done or not when in that situation. It certainly has opened my eyes up to the world and I feel I am more aware and ready for what might come my way now. Although after reading the Let s Drive a Stake In the Heart of the Industrial Age! you never really know what s going to happen next. I plan to use all the OB tools that I have been able to learn about in this term to assist the transformational process in organizational models. Using these tools will help this process go more smoothly and make it easier not only for the company but for the employees and customers. The transformational process in any company is hard and can be very challenging during a time like this. I believe that change is challenging just from my experiences and that it can take more time than one thinks or wants it to. I personally am not a fan of change, so when there is a change going on in my personal or professional life I hope it is quick and easy (which it is rarely ever). I have learned though change is good. As much as I may hate it, it is necessary and it cannot be avoided. I learned these past weeks and have seen examples where some individuals in a company will resist change, even leaders, and that is where I find the OB tools to help and make the change as easy as possible for everyone in the company. I know this is something I will do to assist the transformational process in organizational models in my future company. I will use the strategies we have learned in this course to help and be more effective. One concept in this course I have learned and it has stuck with me is focusing on employees. Without good relationships with employees and making sure they are happy and acknowledged the work within the company will not get done effectively and efficiently. As a manager, I will make sure that all employees are managed, able to express their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Robert Bly s Influence On American Literature Poet and storyteller Robert Bly, considerable influence on American literature, in this excerpt from The Sibling Society (1996), Bly argues and states about change of our society and starts the interesting introduction in a strange way with hidden meanings to lead to his point of what it really means to be an adult in the modern society. This passage is not completely a book as whole and was put together partially for college student to read the main focus point of the author. Bly makes points back and forth in his essay of in the between paternalistic society and the sibling society that he observed and argues the differences. He blames the first generation because of their disrespect of authority to let down in traditional values that failed to provide a moral compass for the young. The strong point of this book is his description of a disturbing development in modern society that denies to become a fully adult. Admiration for elders has disappeared and forgotten, tradition has worn out, and families are being ignored. Writer Bly, talks about during his generation, paternal society, being uniformity and how they had an elaborate and internally consistent form (250) during paternal society, kids learned how to talk to the adults, to be respectful and responsible at school yet, they still asked for their authority when to make decisions. But by the time you are reading this, there can be more than 5,000 aircrafts in the sky. Throughout the day, Air Traffic Control handles more than 50,000 flights on any given day. Air Traffic Control has come a long way since it first was established in Newark, New Jersey on July 6, 1936. It has grown from just three towers to an outstanding 131 federal stand alone airport towers, 132 towers for terminal approach and 21 en route control towers (Jones). This expansion of Air Traffic Control could not have been done without the help of the United States government and the Federal Aviation Administration. To further this expansion, I believe that the Air Traffic Control should be privatized. With the Air Traffic Control privatized, it would speed up the development of NextGen, increase safety and efficiency, and create a self funded private organization. There is currently a new Air Traffic Control system being developed. This system is called NextGen. NextGen is a GPS system, which will give pilots more precise information on other planes whereabouts. It is a change from ground based radar to the more advanced and accurate satellite surveillance. This would allow aircraft to take off in more direct routes and shorter intervals (VerBruggen). SUSTAINABILITY ESSAY Explore and comment on how textiles and fashion designers have contributed and approached fundamental issues within ecological design. INTRODUCTION Ecological design is the sole responsibility of innovation and the creativity of products and objects that will sustain our society and future societies. It is critical that we change the way sustainable design is perceived and interpreted, by beginning to develop an understanding of the history and journey from Green design into Sustainable design as well as looking at the direction in which we would like it to progress to. GREEN, ECOLOGICAL OR SUSTAINABLE Concepts of ecological design are not necessarily new or modern; it s the nature of re inventing and re visiting that the term is founded upon. But there are differences between the terms, some more subtle than others. Typically Green design is associated with getting the environmental message out there to the masses, focusing more on the environmental issues and looking into plentiful natural resources. The key words being masses and plentiful, instead of a less is more mentality that starts to be adopted in Ecological design this suggests a substitution of product to fill that consumerism addiction. Green design became particularly popular in the 1980 s, due to a foundation built by the environmental movement of the late 60 s and 70 s, which sparked a growing awareness into environmental issues; it becomes a pinnacle point of where Ecological design meets the mainstream. In an extract from Ecological Design: A new critique, Pauline Madge (1997, p.44) informs us that because green encapsulated green politics, current environmental concerns, and identified them with a specific colour, in an unprecedented way, green design arrived with a ready made symbolism: green products, green packaging, and numerous books ... The Narrative Structure Of The Afternoon ( 1942 ) The narrative structure in Meshes of the Afternoon (1942) is unique in that it uses abstract symbolism to transfer all narrative information to the audience, forcing the audience to actively engage with the narrative in order to piece together the plot and how it relates the story, if there is one being told at all. Meshes is told with distinctive narrative structure that relies on different interpretations for one to understand the purpose it serves as a work of cinema. The purpose of Meshes can be seen to represent, embody, or exemplify possible ways of seeing and being in the world itself. The artisanal and avant garde style of Meshes, with its unclear chronological sequencing coupled with its overt referencing to a dream state, serves to explore the way in which director Maya Deren felt about her world, one she allowed us to peer into through the lens of her camera. Meshes also relies on its aesthetics as its primary form of language, with symbolic communication contributing to its poetic form. Meshes also largely employs an expressive form of emphasis through its use of mis en scene, as the entire film can be seen as the subconscious expression of Maya Deren s thoughts of her life, specifically of her relationship with her husband Alexander Hammid. Meshes also uses a poetic form of emphasis in terms of the style of its narrative, with each repetition of actions serving as a stanza for the film, which unfolds in the form of a poem. The visual form of the narrative is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Intelligence is a dynamic trait because what is available as an intelligent act will change as the organism matures biologically and it gains experience. The restoration of balance in the cognitive structure also creates the ability to attain new and different interactions with the environment. This accommodation causes a change in the cognitive structure and if these situations are encountered again it does not cause an imbalance because the cognitive structure has changed and that assimilation is no longer and issue. The dual mechanisms of assimilation and accommodation, along with the driving force of equilibration, provide for a slow but steady intellectual growth. Interiorization Children s early interactions with the environment are strictly sensorimotor. With increasing experience, children expand their cognitive structure, enabling them to better adapt to the increasing number of situations they encounter. The gradual decreasing dependence on the physical environment and the increased utilization of cognitive structures is called interiorization. (Olson amp; Hergenhahn, 2009) As the cognitive structure grows and develops it makes more complex problem solving possible. As the process of interiorization continues, the child s adaptive response becomes more covert; Piaget called these actions operations (thinking). The most important characteristic of operations is it is reversible. Once something has been thought it can be undone or unthought . The Beating Heart Of The Seven Gables The Beating Heart of The House of the Seven Gables Nathaniel Hawthorne extensively weaves symbolism into the pages of The House of the Seven Gables to bring the house and the items within it to life. The use of gothic elements within the house directly reflects upon the decaying of the Pyncheon family. Their once lively home stands as a constant reminder of the family s legacy. The Pyncheon mansion strongly represents the decaying of the Pyncheon family over time. In the early 1800 s, when the house was first built, the Pyncheons were a thriving, wealthy, and influential family. However, as time goes on, the house starts to become an eerie residence in the same way the Pyncheon s glory fades. The author describes the darkness of the ... In the yard outside the house stands an overgrown elm tree symbolizing the growth of the darkness in the Pyncheon family. The great tree blocks the sun from shining into the home. Hawthorne symbolizes this as the burden and secrets that cast a dark shadow over the family. When the tree first sprouts upon the lawn and grows, beauty radiates from it in the same way the Pyncheons first radiate their glory. Inside the house remains the memory of Alice Pyncheon found within her coffin like harpsichord. The harpsichord plays beautiful melodies that still echo through the house. They serve as a constant reminder of Alice s spirit. However, the instrument representing a coffin reminds those who wonder about Alice s legacy of her tragic ending. By using a coffin like harpsichord, Hawthorne employs a dual symbol to an item. Much like how the house causes unease to those who dare glance in its direction, the painting of Colonel Pyncheon lets off the same threatening vibe. Wright uses imagery and personification to describe the nature he witnesses as he escapes from the stress of human life. Finally Wright comes to the realization that if he were blessed enough he would be able to step out of his body and break into blossom, thus becoming a part of nature. But, he realizes that is past the realm of reality and therefore cannot be done. Wright examines the relationship of human being and nature using his descriptive language including such devices as imagery and similes. The Effect Of Diagenetic Recrystallization On Metal Isotopes RESEARCH INTERESTS AND HIGHLIGHTS: My research primarily involves elucidating the effect of diagenetic recrystallization on metal isotopes (Mg, Ca, and Sr) in marine carbonates and evaluating their reliability as geochemical proxies to reconstruct the paleoclimatic conditions and chemical evolution of seawater through geologic period. Geochemical cycling of Mg on the earth s surface involves transfer of Mg from continental rocks to the ocean followed by reincorporation of Mg into the lithosphere via hydrothermal exchange at the mid oceanic ridges and through precipitation of carbonate minerals. Since the exogenic cycle of Mg is directly linked to the global carbon cycle it is invaluable for reconstructing the climatic variability (e.g. pCO2 and temperature). The Mg isotopic composition (δ26Mg) of seawater is useful to decouple long term variability of Mg concentration and δ26Mg of the input and output fluxes to the ocean. The δ26Mg of marine carbonates is a promising proxy for seawater δ26Mg. However, diagenetic recrystallization of calcite, which is known to impact the trace elemental and isotopic composition of carbonates significantly, can complicate the carbonate based geochemical proxy interpretation. Therefore, it is critical to quantify the diagenetic effect on the concentrations and isotopic composition of trace elements (e.g. Mg, Ca, Sr) in carbonates to facilitate accurate proxy reconstruction.
