Big data encompasses a wide range of tremendous data generated from various sources such as
mobile device, digital repository, and enterprise application. Big Data is a broader concept then
just data that happens to be big. It is a new paradigm of collecting, storing, handling and extracting
meaning from varieties of data. Big data categorized mainly in 3Vs as follows.
a.Data volume
b.Data variety
c.Data velocity
Data Volume: This defines the available size of data that has been growing every day with multiple
sources from companies, individuals, smart devices, and applications. Recently, rapid growth of
smart devices and social networking, and smart phones send variety of information to network
infrastructure. Larger size of data increased the volume of data that has to be analyzed and
petabytes is common in big data structure.
Data Variety: This define the different types, structures, and format of data that has been gathered
from databases, excel tables, pure text, audio, video, web, GPS data, sensor data, relational
databases, documents, SMS, pdf, flash and so forth. Structure can no longer be imposed in the past
to keep control over analysis. Evolving nature of technology introduced new data format and

Employee Engagement and Organizational Success
Leaders also try to achieve the same quality for their own status, which allows them to pursue
greater strength, achieve personal goals and future endeavours. According to a recent study
conducted by Psychometrics Canada a pioneer in research assessment, has mentioned in one of its
report that employee engagement in the organisation plays a major role in the success of any
organisation. Accordingly it says that the best way to increase the relation is by working out a
strategy that builds positive environment and culture relations between the workers and ensuring a
good leader to fit for the purpose. Leaders in the organisation can try to achieve a better employee
engagement by listening to followers opinions, communicating his vision with a clarity, providing
and developing strategies and solution for the success, and finally recognising the ability of the
followers and praising their contributions. Thisaspect of leadershipis displayed by general
feedback, generating ideas and possess enthusiastic in requesting for help (Bradley P. Owens,
2013). One example of this leadership quality is described by DAVID J. BOBB(David J B,
2013) in his book saying following servant leadership is very difficult as it is not a natural talent
to anyone. He takes the example of George Washington, though considered to be a man of high
temper and showing excess pride in his capabilities and qualities during his period as a freedom
fighter. As he has foreseen the global position he is getting

Moscow Doesn T Believe In Tears
Desire can be used as a tool to set goals and motivate people to accomplish objectives over their
lifetime. People may desire various elements of a good life including success, happiness, or easy
wealth. Desire takes many forms in Moscow Doesn t Believe in Tears, where three female
characters starts a new life in a new era, where they believe that desire is rewarded. The film begins
in the Thaw period Moscow, with three protagonists who are part of the urbanization movement of
Soviet people that have high hopes for a better future. Katerina, Lyudmila, and Antonina each have
their own ambitions that actualize over a period of twenty years that lead up to the stagnation
period. Through the depiction of the rewards and punishments of the three... Show more content on

Therefore, the film shows that there is good and bad desire; depended on whether or not their
desire benefits society. People like Katerina and Antonina have good desires that benefit
themselves and the rest of Soviet society, as society benefits from the successes of directors and
families. Lyudmila s desire on the other hand is only about benefiting herself. In fact, it hurts her
husband who becomes a drunkard because of their unhappy marriage. The film evaluates Katerina
as a success story, but her success is not complete until she meets Gosha, who finally makes her
happy. By ending on a note that supports a patriarchal family, the film depicts happiness through a

Regret By Kate Chopin
Much of Kate Chopin s writing examines the issues of freedom and autonomy, often in terms of
class, race and gender. Although race was the clearest indication of lower class status in the
American South in the late 19th century, women meanwhile belonged to a subset of each class
such that the men held the legal and social authority. Women of each class were subordinate
citizens. The majority of women did not manage their own property, possessions tended to be
passed down to sons rather than daughters and women s role in society was limited to being
wives and mothers. Chopin s independence of spirit is reflected in how she embraced liberation
after her husband s death: she took over the running of his general store and plantation for over a
year and after she sold up, to support herself and her young family, she began to write. In her
writing, Chopin often depicts characters who find themselves at odds with their societal norms
like the story Regret which was written in 1894 and accurately fits into the ideal as it presents a
woman who gives the impression that she is at ease with her life however new attitudes arise as she

This is evident as Chopin develops Mamzelle Aurelie s personality in relation to the children s
actions, for example; Ti Nomme s sticky fingers compelled her to unearth white aprons that she

affectionate and exuberant nature. The verb unearth advocates the forced nature of her ability to
surface her maternal ways. This contrasts the title Regret with the reason as to why she forces
herself to manifest different responses to the children, suggestive of what she assumed to be her
subsidiary need for affection developing into a primary feeling which triggers this notion of

Pre Eclampsia Research Paper
A popular hypothesis explaining the cause of pre eclampsia is immune maladaptation(14).To date,
the etiology of preeclampsia is not completely understood, however an increasing body of evidence
indicates the involvement of the immune system in the form of faulty tolerance to the conceptus as
an fundamental part of the pathogenesis(50).The immune system has been incriminated in the
pathophysiology of preeclampsia with alterations in the cellular immunity and cytokines production
that are work toward the maintenance of pregnancy(76). The maternal immune response against the
fetusand placenta has too been proposed to have an central role in the pathogenesis of
preeclampsia(185).
In contrast to normal pregnancy, there are indications of increased inflammatory responses and
also of an immune deviation toward Th1 in the established preeclamptic pregnancy (183).
Accompanied by a shift in the direction of Th1 type immunity as identified by the increased IL 2
/IL 4 ratio and IFN Оі /IL 4 ratio , there is too increased circulating levels of the pro inflammatory
cytokines IL 6 and TNF О±, also the chemokines IL 8 , interferon inducible protein 10 (IP 10)
and monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP 1), as well as the adhesion molecules intercellular

NK cells are usually disappeared by full term. Conversely, in preeclampsia, NK cells continue to be
active in the maternal decidua. Activation of NK cells might be accountable for the Th1
predominant inflammatory response profile experiential in preeclampsia, with increased IFN Оі
and TNF О± level. The NK cell derived Th1 cytokines may thus have a role in the pathogenesis of
preeclampsia, maybe by inhibiting trophoblast invasion locally, and/or by the induction of
endothelial damage and systemic inflammation

Nietzsche s View Of The Western Bourgeois Society
The late 19th and early 20th centuries brought forth a modern approach to science, intellectual
affairs, and the arts. Before 1914, these ideas were a result of the Scientific Revolution and the
Enlightenment periods. During this time period there were a series of new inventions, which
included electric lights, phonographs, cinema, and automobiles. One of these developments that
opened the way to a modern consciousness was with developments in science. Science was a field
that dealt with cold hard facts and reason, which is different from the religious beliefs that many
individuals were used to seeing. Many believed that the Scientific laws of the time would give rise
to an understanding of the physical world, however the new physics altered... Show more content on

Instead of artists applying brushstrokes towards paintings that encompassed realistic ideas, a new
type of theme was known in the early 19th and late 20th centuries. This new theme of art came
from Impressionism, which was a movement in France that dealt with painting outside of the
studio or museums and painting nature directly. However, these painters did not only paint scenes
from nature but also streets, cabarets, rivers, and busy boulevards, wherever human beings were
present. Impressionists painting referred to originality seen in past artworks by utilizing bright
colors, dynamic brushstrokes, and a smaller scale. By the 1880s a new style of painting had
emerged in France and other European nations, which was Post Impressionism. Post Impressionism
was different from Impressionism in that Post Impressionism emphasized not only on color and
light but also focused more on structure and form. Also, these types of paintings used color and
line to express a personal sense of reality that was different from Impressionism. As Post
Impressionism shifted from objective reality to subjective reality, Post Impressionism was the
beginning of modern art. Two of the most famous Post Impressionists are Paul Cezanne and Vincent
van Gogh, whose famous paintings are Mont Sainte Victoire and Starry Night, separately. Both of
their paintings made use of the

Historically, the banana trade symbolized economic imperialism, injustices in the global trade
market, and the exploitation of agriculture dependent third world countries (2). However, they
remain to be one of the most profitable items in grocery stores. Making bananas crucial to
economic and global food stability for countries all over the world. They are the third largest staple
crop, coming only after wheat and coffee. Since bananas are such a sought after fruit, many
companies have gone to extensive lengths in the to fight for a share of the market. Chiquita
Brands International was one of the pioneer companies to try and globalize bananas. They took a
risk and made some very critical mistakes along the way.

It seems that in going through Chiquita s company background, that they have been somewhat of
a shady brand since its origin. Eli Black, CEO in 1970, paid a US$1.25 million bribe to Honduran
official in return for them reducing taxes on the company s banana exports. He then proceeded to
kill himself. The next CEO, Carl Linder, was know for bottom fishing and led the company into
bankrupty in 2002. Next in line to assume the title was Agguire.
It seemed that he was faced with an overwhelming load of problems from Chiquita s past, but he
quickly decided on the best way to fix it. He told CEO Magazine in 2007, [Chiquita s] key
challenge is to control costs while supporting innovation efforts. Cost saving programs have not
been nearly enough to offset higher industry and other costs. He said also that the second challenge
is to remain agile in a competitive, fast paced marketplace that is characterized by growing
consumer expectations [...] and that in order to strengthen the [...] power of the brand, [they] are
developing strategies based on consumer brands for healthy, fresh foods and focusing on
diversification and innovation (5). He made it clear from the beginning that Chiquita would be
transitioning from the low margin operations to a company that produced more value added
products. Also, that they would begin to maintain an excellent record of food safety, quality,

Using Csx s Failure To Deregulate The Transportation Industry
The railway industry has been a major player in the transportation industry since the 1850s.
During the 1870s the industry experienced a lot of consolidation as companies made acquisitions
in an attempt to lower costs. Fast forward to the 1940s, trucking became a much cheaper
alternative to railways and the industry started seeing declining profits. Many companies tried to
mitigate the declining profits by closing unprofitable routes, merge with other railroads, and lower
costs. However, these efforts were stopped by U.S. regulators. It wasn t until 1980 that Congress
passed the Stagger s Rail Act which highly deregulated the industry. This allowed for railroads to
dramatically lower costs and pursue more mergers. The largest suggested merger... Show more

In Table 1 these assumptions are used to find the present value of the additional cash flows as
well as the present value of the tax shield. From this merger approximately $36.24 would be
added in value per share this results in a value of $107.24 per share. We recommend that CSX
does not offer more than $95 per share. This will ensure that CSX does not overpay for the
acquisition and will create a positive NPV even if they do not realize all of the potential
synergies. In recent acquisitions, the average offer price was 16.175X the earnings per share
EPS. Using this multiple and Conrail s 1995 EPS, an offer price of $75.86 is produced. CSX s
blended offer of $89.07 produces a multiple of nearly 19X the EPS and using our recommended
max of $95 produces a 20.26X EPS. These are both higher than the average but do not exceed the
acquisition price of Santa Fe Pacific by Burlington Northern that was priced at 21.4X EPS. This
slightly higher price could be justified by CSX with the unique competitive edge the combined
companies would produce in the Eastern

To what extent is the prime minister first among equals?
This essay will compare the prime ministerial styles of Thatcher and Blair and compare presidential
styles to collective cabinet government. It explains what can happen when a prime minister has too
much power and is more than just first among equals. It concludes that in recent years the prime
minster has exerted too much power and is ignoring his cabinet.
By the 1830s the Westminster system of what we now as cabinet government emerged. The head of
the government is the prime minister. Leech et al define the prime minister as: A head of
government whose power normally derives in Britain from leadership of the largest party in the
legislature, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mo Mowlem and Clare Short were secretly annoyed and frustrated about cabinet meetings and
discussions and also the allowance of a spin doctors to attend cabinet meetings (Heffernan, 2006
as cited in Casey 2009). Short later stated there was no collective just diktats (BBC News Online,
2003). Weller (2003) argued this led to questions as to where government fitted in within
Thatcher and Blair s respective times in power. Weller (2003) further stated Thatcher did not
want a cabinet by committee but government by her with selected ministers. Coxell et al (1997)
give an example of Thatcher s power when she ignored the advice from the top military advisors
and chose to deploy troops to the Falklands. Furthermore, in 1986 she allowed the USA to use
British military bases to bomb Libya, it later emerged the defence secretary of the time George
Younger and the cabinet had no knowledge of this arrangement with the USA.
At present we have a coalition government in power. Leech et al state that in practice prime
ministerial power may vary based on the individual prime minister who has the ability to exploit
his cabinet (pp.201 205). This can clearly be seen in our current coalition government. Cameron
does not have the political power to exploit his government as he needs to please his party.
However, in Cameron s case this also includes the party which he is in coalition with. Therefore, the
prime minister has to include others

Have you ever thought about what it would be like not to be free? What would it be like not to
be able to make choices? What would it be like not to be able to do what you want? It s scary to
think about not being free, but even in the world today some people don t even have basic human
freedoms. Lois Lowryshows us in her books The Giverand Gathering Bluewhat it would be like not

In the beginning of the Gathering, Kira hears a clanking noise and can t figure out what it is.
She dismisses it from her mind for the most part and focuses on the singer. At the end of the
song, she notices the sound again and this time sees what it is as the singer picks up the bottom
of his robe and walks down the stairs of the stage. She is horrified by the sight of the man s bare,
grotesque feet and ankles. He has big ankle cuffs and a huge chain dragging behind him. Kira is
so surprised that she thinks for a minute she could have imagined it, but as she sees the fresh trail
of blood the singer leaves behind as he walks inside, she knows she hasn t. When she realizes
suddenly and with clarity what it all meant, (p. 211) she sees that she is not as free as she thought
she was in her new life.
Kira also starts to question her freedom when she and Thomas go downstairs to visit the little
girl Jo. Jo is a little tyke who is also and orphan like Kira and Thomas but has an amazing voice.
She is being locked in a room all by herself and forced to learn songs. All she wants is to sing her
own songs, but the Council of Guardians won t let her. Kira starts to see what Jo is going
through. All the nice things, the food, and the comforts are not worth it if she has to give up the
freedom she had to weave what she wants. Kira goes back to her room and cries wishing she could

Trope Of Shame In Lancelot And Guinevere
Throughout this course, the class has read various pieces of Arthurian literature. Each of these
pieces hold their own contributions in the genre and differentiate both plot and concepts. Most of
these concepts can be labeled as tropes, which are figurative or metaphorical use of a word or
expression. One trope that was found while analyzing the texts was shame, or the painful feeling of
humiliation. The trope of shame is prominent in both the medieval legend Lancelot or the Knight of
the Cart and Natsume Soseki s more modern story, Kairo ko. Both sources emphasizes the shame
that is felt by Lancelot and Guineverebut in two very contrasting ways. These sources can also be
compared to the tale Sir Gawainin the Green Knight, which deals with shame a lesson that can be
learned, rather than a pitiful thing. All three of these Arthurian legends use the trope of shame to
shape both the characters and stories in their own way.
In ChrГ©tien de Troyes Lancelot or the Knight of the Cart, Lancelot s first shameful action is
hesitating after his is offered to ride in the prisoner cart by the dwarf driving it. ChrГ©tien de
Troyes writes: At that, the dwarf continued on his way without slowing down even an instant for
the knight, who hesitated but two steps before climbing in. He would regret this moment of
hesitation and be accused and shamed for it; he would come to consider himself ill used. But
Reason, who does not follow Love s command, told him to beware of getting in, warned and and
counseled him not to do anything for which he might incur disgrace or reproach (177). No matter
what decision Lancelot would have made, he would have been shamed in the end. If Lancelot have
no hesitated, he would have been shamed by the rest of the knightly community for riding the cart
despite his mentality. No matter what, Guinevere would have pressured Lancelot into shame for
hesitation or not riding the cart in general.
After Lancelot finds Guinevere, the forbidden lovers have a conversation regarding Lancelot s
adventure. It it revealed that Guinevere knows about Lancelot s two step hesitation to get into the
dwarf s cart and is displeased with his actions. Guinevere replies to Lancelot s question of
displeasement with this:

Cholesterol Essay
Cholesterol is an essential molecule for animal life. It is an integral component of the plasma
membrane of animal cells, it is a precursor of steroid hormones and bile acids, and it plays a
crucial role in the formation of the myelin sheath that surrounds axons. Cholesterol and other
insoluble lipids are transported through the bloodstream in lipoprotein particles. Lipoproteins are a
family of globular particles comprised of a core of neutral lipids surrounded by cholesterol,
phospholipids, and apoproteins. Low density lipoprotein (LDL) and high density lipoprotein
(HDL) are the two primary carriers of cholesterol in the blood. The primary function of LDL is to
deliver cholesterol to cells throughout the body, where it is removed from... Show more content on

From an early age, these individuals are at high risk for atherosclerosis and heart disease.
Heterozygous FH individuals are also at risk for these diseases, albeit to a much lesser degree.
Because the FH mutation also caused the disease in heterozygous individuals, Goldstein and Brown
began with the assumption that FH was the result of a defect in regulation of cholesterol synthesis.
Discovery of the LDL Receptor
Goldstein and Brown began their work by measuring the activity of 3 hydroxy 3 methylglutaryl
coenzyme A reductase (HMG CoA reductase), which catalyzes the rate limiting step in cholesterol
production. Goldstein and Brown found that when normal fibroblasts were grown in serum, HMG
CoA reductase activity was low. Additionally, they found that when cholesterol carrying
lipoproteins was removed from the culture medium, HMG CoA reductase activity increased by a
large margin. Furthermore, they observed that HMG CoA reductase activity was suppressed when
LDL was reintroduced to the medium. This inhibition of HMG CoA reductase by LDL, and the
fact that low concentrations of LDL suppressed HMG CoA reductase activity, led Goldstein and
Brown to believe that a receptor with high affinity for LDL was involved in the inhibition of
cholesterol synthesis.
When Goldstein and Brown measured HMG CoA reductase activity in FH homozygous fibroblasts
grown in normal serum, they came to the conclusion that HMG CoA reductase activity was not
affected by the presence of LDL in

Hold onto it as hard as you can and enjoy the burning sensations in your arms. They can help you

A Badminton Overhead Clear Shot
In this essay I will discuss, de construct and analyze the techniques used by my partner, Luke
Wynne when performing the badminton overhead clear shot using anatomical and biomechanical
analysis. Throughout the essay I will give critical feedback and feed forward on four different
phases, the preparation phase, execution phase, contact phase and the follow through phase. I will
discuss the functional anatomy of how my partner can better his whole performance to become
closer to the optimum performance that elite athletes play at, also known as the autonomous stage
of learning. I will then finish my essay with a conclusion to sum up everything that I have
discussed. PREPERATION The first stage when performing a badminton overhead clear is the
preparation stage; I will discuss the ideal performance, and then compare the ideal to my partner s
performance. In the beginning of the shot the player raises his arms above his head using the

load being the racquet, and effort being the triceps and the fulcrum being the elbow, which is a

The Four Key Differences Between Project-Based...
BAM 514 International Business Management
Unit # 3
Question #1. Discuss the four key differences between project based collaborations and equity joint
ventures. As focal firms internationalize they often run into risks that are beyond their capabilities
to overcome by themselves. Consequently, many firms often conclude it makes sense to work with
a strategic partner with capabilities complimentary to their own to achieve certain projects. When
two or more firms come together to manage risks associated with internationalization, they form
international partnerships, or international strategic alliances. By working together, focal firms use
the capabilities, resources or other strengths of their partners to achieve projects they would
otherwise be unable to do alone. There are two basic forms of partnerships, Equity joint ventures
and Project based collaborations. To understand the differences between these two basic types of
partnerships it helps to understand how each is structured. (S. Tamer Cavusgil, Gary Knight, and
John R. Riesenberger, 2012. International Business: The New Realities. Second edition, page 411).
An Equity joint venture is a traditional partnership in which a new entity is created through the
combination of assets by two or more parent companies. Together, the firms share joint ownership
of the new legal entity. Typically, this may be a result of one firm not having all the resources or
assets necessary to exploit an opportunity, or it may be the only

Equal Citizen And Gender Status
equal citizen. This approach requires an expansion of the meaning of equality to include all
choices people make in their lives. If we look at it in this way, equality means the right not to
have one s life split between career and family. It also means the right to control one s own social
roles. From an inequality perspective, the test in any case would be whether the policy or practice
in question integrally contributes to the maintenance of an underclass or a deprived position
because of genderstatus. If the law continues to contribute to the repression of women, the court
must then deliberate if the law has a substantial impact on perpetuating the inequality of women. If
so, the court must use the strict scrutinyanalysis to see if the law is reasonable in having a
compelling state interest. Therefore, the inequality test moves away from the current equal
protection analysis in that is does not need to have a link between similarly situated classes of
people. This difference is important because laws that govern reproductive biology rule ways in

In Time Stereotyping
Stereotyping can lead to bias, prejudice, and discrimination, sometimes causing exclusion of
groups, or oppression, often which are minorities. They are given specific characteristics to fit into,
which they often do not. Stereotyping happens all over the world, more specifically in America.
They create a facade of a preeminent characteristic. They can have dire consequences, become
emotionally damaging attacks, which often results in hurting many people mentally and even
physically. This stereotyping shown In the film In Time, by Andrew Niccol. For instance, Sylvia, a
rich woman from the more upscaled part of the country, has acquainted herself with Will Salas, a
poor man from the ghetto. In a society where time is literally money, and once one runs out, they...

This evidence connects to the social criticism of the dangers of stereotyping because Will assumes
that since the rich have money, they mustn t have worked for it. He think that if people have
money, they must have stole it from the poor, or eared it a dishonourable way. The director uses
repetition to show this point, because even though he meets may wealthier people who have not
stolen, he still has this negative stereotype. Though we know that may of the richer characters
probably earned their money by working for it, the less wealthy automatically assume that since
they have more, they think they are better than the rest of the people, and they give no regards to
people poorer than themselves. Andrew Niccol uses these author tools to strongly show the dangers
that stereotyping can have on us. In Time By Andrew niccol shows a criticism towards the dangers
of stereotyping, which can convey a universally believed, false facade towards a certain group. The
dangers of stereotyping are shown throughout the film, In Time, by using juxtaposition and point of
view, to show the differences of the two lives that the characters had, and show that they were

The Central Intelligence Agency was developed in 1947 by the National Security Act under
President Truman. The CIA is responsible for coordinating the nation s intelligence activities and
correlating, evaluating and disseminating intelligence affecting national security. Before the CIA
was developed President Franklin D. Roosevelt had the idea to create an agency that was
responsible for intelligence agencies. This agency became known as the Office of Strategic

American people to go to war, where as before the attack most Americans were anti war, they
believed that it was better to stay out of the war unless we had been attacked by another country

Council contended that the Sale of Agreement Form to sell the Council House was not an offer

Assassin Counter Culture
The bi racial rap group Assassin can relate specifically to traditional American Rap fans in
France as their sound is very similar due to the beats that they use for their songs. Similar in
sounds to rappers alike the Notorious B.I.G, N.W.A (N*gga s With Attitude), Dr Dre, Tupac
Shakir and the ladder of 90 s American rap legends, Assassin use backing tracks that are very
repetitive in order to create a sustained beat allowing listeners to focus on their lyrics whether
they were part of a political statement or spoke about minorities or violence. This was through
the technique of scratching vinyls, creating a repetitive beat, firstly experimented by
Grandwizard Theodore (Snapper, 2004). In Esclave de votre sociГ©tГ© (1991), the group refers
to their ethnic identity and socio cultural group, referring to them as a counter culture to the norm

One of the most popular dogs owned by dog owners is the pit bulldog. They are said to have a

pets, but they can cause severe problems if they are not trained correctly. Even with their friendly
attitude towards human, they are aggressive and defensive towards their territory. This tends to
threaten the society when considering how to control the pit bulls of mauling incidents. Pit

whether banning these attack dogs would be a good solution (Bulwa).
Over the past few years, pit bulldogs have been a great concern because of the dog mauling
incidents. In the San Francisco Chronicle, it revealed that Denver had passed laws to control
certain breeds in dogs to ensure the safety for the people. Canada as well took action. They
decided to ban the pit bulldogs in their province in August 2005. Hopefully, by banning the pit

Dog mauling is quite common, but it is rarely seen that people are mauled to death by dogs. In

The Devil Wears Prada Analysis
Have you ever been intimidated by someone merely by their presence? What is making their
presence intimidating, even if they haven t said anything? This situation would be primarily due to
their body language, eye contact, and/or confidence to name a few; it is a known fact that 95% of
communication revolves around nonverbal cues such as these. This large percentage of nonverbal
cues can be seen in the movie The Devil Wears Prada.
An average but intelligent woman named Andy Sachs lands a job at a popular fashion magazine as
Meryl Streep s aka Miranda Priestly s aka the devil s assistant. She has to deal with the devils
difficult demands and trying to fit into this new world she had mocked before; as she proves, and

New England Vs Chesapeake Essay
A Comparison of the New England and Chesapeake Bay Regions
Amid the 1700 s, individuals in the American provinces lived in exceptionally unmistakable social
orders. While a few homesteaders drove hard lives, others were solid and prosperous. The two
gatherings who demonstrated these distinctions were the pilgrims of the New England and
Chesapeake Bay zones. The separating qualities among the Chesapeake and New England
settlements created because of economy, religion, and thought processes in frontier extension. The
pilgrims of the New England territory had an exceptionally glad and sound life. This high method

with a proportion of six guys to one female. Men needed to contend with each other for ladies.
Families were both few and powerless in the Chesapeake Bay environment. Barely any
youngsters came to adulthood with simply the consideration of their two folks and nobody

Chesapeake region. In New England, hopeful atmospheres, clean water, and pipes helped keep
the spread of illness. Accordingly, it was not bizarre for New Englanders to live to the age of
seventy. The pioneers who came to New England moved to the New World with their families,
permitting the family to stay in politeness and remain the focal point of New England life. The
ways of life of the two districts contrasted monstrously. Life in New England very much surpassed

The subsequent arguments and counter arguments can become heated and even acrimonious.
Negotiations can break down and resume and the matter remains inconclusive without any
progress for many days. Stage 3: Signaling This collective bargaining model rests on the worker s
representatives submitting proposals that they consider ideal, but willing to settle for less, and the
management willing to concede more than they publicly acknowledge. Sending signals across to
the other party, through subtle messages, change of tone, body language, and other cues reveal to
the other side that the proposal under discussion will meet with little resistance, can be accepted
with modifications, or have a low chance of acceptance. Signaling thereby reveals the resistance
point to the other party without making it explicit. Failure to send signals leads to both sides
sticking to their positions, causing impasse and a breakdown of negotiation and the dispute
escalating to the next level of industrial action. Stage 4: Proposal One of the important stages of
collective bargaining negotiations is one side making a proposal in a bid to end the argument and
reach a settlement. Such proposals are reconciliation of arguments made by either side, based on
the signals received. Stage 5: Packaging Good negotiators package proposals. Packaging involves
making concessions, but placing items that remain too tempting to resist along with some

But before those studies could be carried out, and before widespread use of maggot therapy was
imaginable, several technical challenges first had to be overcome. History of Maggot Therapy
Early Observations For centuries, the beneficial effects of maggot infested wounds were noted by
military surgeons who observed that injured soldiers abandoned on the battlefield fared better and
that their wounds healed faster when those wounds were infested with maggots.7 Himself having
observed maggot infested wounds during his service in World War I, the orthopedic surgeon,
William Baer, was the first to apply maggots systematically to nonhealing wounds while a
professor at Johns Hopkins and Children s Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Baer presented his
preliminary results in 1929,8 and his entire work in maggot therapy treating over 100 children with
osteomyelitis and problematic soft tissue wounds was published posthumously in 1931.9
Technological Advancements That Have Optimized Maggot Therapy Within 5 years of Baer s
groundbreaking work, over 1000 American, Canadian, and European surgeons were using maggots
in their practice.10 Many hospitals operated their own insectaries for rearing and disinfecting the
larvae. Rise and Fall of Maggot Therapy in the 1930s The three most common objections to maggot

Juxtaposition In Othello
From the very beginning of Shakespeare s Othello, Iago is held in very high regard within the
community in Venice. He is often called honest Iago by many people, including his superior,
Othello. There is a large juxtaposition between Iago s perceived character in the beginning of the
play, and the general feeling at the end of the play. There are two possible reasons that this man
that many now know to be one of the most infamous antagonists of all time, to be revered, loved,
and trusted as a most loyal friend. The first of these possibilities is that Iagohad always been a
manipulator, and he had gone so far into his tricks that he had made everyone assume that he was a
fundamentally respectable human being. The second, and most truthful... Show more content on

Though the audience does not have much background knowledge of their marriage and their love
dynamic before the mid section of the play, Iago makes it known that he believes that she has been
unfaithful to him with none other than Othello. I hate the Moor, and it is thought abroad that twixt
my sheets He has done my office (I.iii.368 369). Iago believes this fallacy as truth because he
does not believe that anyone could stay faithful to him because he is not deserving of a tried and
true love, which is common among those suffering from low self esteem. Even though he and
Othello had a very strong bond after serving in the military together, Iago claims he hates the Moor,
because he has everything Iago ever wanted, including at least in his mind, his own wife.
A very common but damaging consequence of low self esteem is friendship jealousy. This term
refers to the sensation that one s closest friends should exclusively belong to them, and no one else

necessity that everybody needs to become successful in life and be able to do fun and exciting
things. One way to save some money is, by considering going to a community collegeinstead of a
universityfor the first two years and then transferring instead of going straight to a university.
Students that choose to go to a community college for their first two years will have an advantage
when it comes to cost, class size, personal interaction with their professors and an easier transition
from high schoolthan going straight to a university. Therefore high school graduates should go to
community college for their first two years to save money and have a better experience.
An advantage when going to a community college first, rather than a university, is the class size.
The class size in a community college compared to a university is significantly smaller. There are
about thirty students in a class when it comes to community colleges, but in universities there are
over a hundred students in one class, all listening to one professor. Having this many students in
one class can be distracting to students, trying to focus and understand the instructor can be hard

Opec And The Price Of Oil
OPEC and the price of oil
The organization of the petroleum exporting countries or OPEC was created at Baghdad
Conference in Iraq in September 1960. The founding members of organization were Iran, Iraq,
Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. These five states were later joined by nine other countries:
Qatar (1961), Indonesia (1962), Libya (1962), United Arab Emirates (1967), Algeria (1969), Nigeria
(1971), Ecuador (1973), Gabon (1975), and Angola (2007). Ecuador and Gabon withdrew from the
organization in 1992 and 1994 as Indonesia in 2007 respectively. OPEC relocated its headquarters
from Geneva to Vienna in 1960. The purpose of OPEC, as with any cartel, is to limit supplies in
the hope of keeping the price high. The oil industry has been plagued by production booms and
falling prices ever since Colonel Drakes discovery of oil at Titusville, Pennsylvania in 1859. Just
as major oil companies colluded from the 1920 s to the 1960 s to present prices and profits from
falling, members of OPEC meet at a regular basis to set production levels in the hop of maintaining
prices. The essential nature of oil (no substitutes) coupled with its limited number of suppliers make
it the ideal product monopoly.
When OPEC was formed in 1960, its main goal was to prevent its compromise the world s largest
oil producers, refiners, and marketers from lowering the price of oil, which they had always
specified, or reported. OPEC members sought to gain greater control over oil prices by

Essay on Invasion of Privacy
Invasion of Privacy and Libel Case Study
Invasion of Privacy and Libel Case Study
Invasion of privacy is something that is a major concern among Americans. In this paper I will
discuss Steve, who has recently joined a church. The church doctrine is such that members are to
reveal indiscretions from their past. Steve has told them of some of his indiscretions but Steve is
not happy about this and decides he would rather leave the church. The church leaders have told
Steve even if he leaves his neighbors as well as members of the church will be notified of his past.
In this paper I will discuss which privacy torts are involved as well as if this is a libel case. I will
also discuss whether the expectation of privacy applies to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It would be easier to pursue actions if what Steve disclosed something such as armed robbery or
any number of felonies in which case the church may feel the need to notify the police. Had he
told them of his pension to jay walking it would not hold as much weight if any. It should be noted
that in this case should not be considered intentional intrusion invasion of privacy. The reasoning
for this would be that when we discuss this tort it should be noted that this involves delving into an
individual s private life or thoughts and being unauthorized. If however the church had gotten
ahold of Steve s information from listening in on his conversations with members of the church. It
should also be noted that tort of appropriation is not a factor as well. The explanation for this is
that the individual involved did not consent to his/her use of their picture or likeness or even their
name for any type of personal gain.
According to the definition of expectation of privacy which is you expect privacy as society
agreeing with you, Steve would not really be entitled as a result of the church not saying in words
that privacy would be given. I think that Steve naturally thought that a church would keep his
indiscretions to themselves. I think that the majority of people would be inclined to think the same
however it is never safe to assume anything. A good example of an expectation of privacy could be
in the Catholic Church. When an individual

1984 Controlling The Mind Analysis
In 1984 by George Orwell, Big Brother uses fear and lies to control its citizens and their thoughts.
They are constantly being monitored using Telescreens, so everything done or said is recorded by
Big Brother and used against them. O Brien, an inner party member, tricks Winston Smith into
believing there were other people like Winston who oppose Big Brother. O Brien tells Winston that
his thoughts and memories are delusions that never occurred. O Brien later explains that Big
Brother controls all, including reality itself. Reality is what someone feels and experiences so it s
possible that Big Brother controls reality by controlling the mind.Reality is what is perceived to be
true, but what exactly is the truth when someone controls your mind. In science, reality is a
theoretical notion of understanding that can never be proven. In the Copenhagen Interpretation
from the school of quantum mechanics, reality does not exist without an observer to observe it so
in relation to 1984, by controlling the observer (the proles) Big Brother can control what they
observe. We control matter... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Trail Of Tears Essay
Trail of Tears The Trail of Tears is a name given to the Cleansing and forced relocation of Native
American nations from Southeastern parts of United States following the Indian Removal Act of
1830. The phrase originated from a description of removal of the Choctaw Nation in 1831. We
Cherokee Indians have lived in our lands for centuries. The white setters forcefully came into our
world and had an eye on our land to grow cotton and other crops. First they wanted to civilize us
and save our souls by converting us to Christianity. Many of our people tried to comply, but they
thought of us as alien people and looked down upon us. The Choctaw, the Chickasaw, the Cherokee
, the Muscogee, and the Seminole (collectively called the Five Civilized Tribes) were living as
autonomous nations in what could be called to the American Deep South. They initially started
harassing us by stealing livestock, burning and looting our houses and squatting on our land which
did not belong to them. The land they coveted was the east of Mississippi as this land was
valuable for growing cotton. Several state governments passed laws limiting Native American
sovereignty and rights, even though US Supreme Court affirmed our nation to be sovereign in the
case of Worcester v. Georgia (1832). In Cherokee Nation v. Georgia (1831), the Supreme Court
ruled the Cherokee nation was not sovereign and independent nation, and even refused to hear the
case. Tensions between Georgia and

Effects Of Morality And Morality
Memory Effects on Ethics and Morality
Introduction
Memory is one of the essential components of a human being. It affects almost all the aspects
human behavior. Ethics and morality are part of two contemporary factors that affect the human
memory and the subsequent actions in the social domain. It seems that people have lowered
morals in the phase of everyday challenges such that ethical dealings are viewed as a typical
mountain in most situations. In most sectors of the public operation, you find that most of the
problems that are presented there or are linked to lack proper ethics and morality. Well as the action
of the population says that morality is relative and not absolute, I always believe that that there
should be a bar of reference. Additionally, the reason why I considered the topic is due to the
divergent discussion that comes with it in any given forum of discussion. The most critical epithet
in the topic is its need of reinforcement into the society. Talking about this topic will open avenues
for more vibrant and genuine views on the topic. For this paper, I will analyze two articles on
morality and ethics from the psychology today website.

Maus Spiegelman
Maus avoids betraying the historical past that it depicts through its aesthetic usage of panels and
gutters, representing the complex intertwining of the past and the present. Comics are comprised of
panels, which are used to divide up narrative events, and gutters, the empty space between each
panel. The illustrator can manipulate the thinness of the gutters, facilitating the reading process of
each row of panels and allowing the gutter to function as a literal depiction of time and space
within a comic (Chute 202). The essence of comics, according to Spiegelman, is that each box
represents a different moment of time and the reader sees them all at once, resulting in his
awareness of the different times inhabiting the same space ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For instance, Vladek retells his strenuous POW work, in which he had to clean an entire stable up
within an hour. He then interrupts himself and interjects, But look what you do, Artie! You re
dropping on the carpet cigarette ashes. You want it should be like a stable here? (MausI 52). Joshua
Brown identifies this incident as one out of the numerous interstices of testimony, in which the
readers learn more about Vladek and Artie (Brown 95). These narrative breaks remind the reader
that Vladek s account is not a chronicle of undefiled fact but a constitutive process and that
remembering is a construction of the past (Brown 95). When Vladek describes his daily work
schedule at Auschwitz, the panel depicts the prisoners marching in an orderly fashion right next to
an orchestra, and Spiegelman had put it in there as he had just read about the camp orchestra that
played as the prisoners marched out the gate (Maus II 54). Vladek tells him that he remember[s]
only marching, not any orchestras, despite Artie s claim that the Auschwitz orchestra was very well
documented and reiterates the first panel within the third one but without the orchestra (Maus II
54). In short, Spiegelman has used the advantages stemming from the conventions of a comic book
to create a coherent presentation. Manifesting these verbal parallels of the past and the present
would be incredibly complicated in a book and would most likely confuse the readers due to the

Why Is The Blitzkrieg So Successful
The rapid advancement into Poland by the German Army in September 1939 proved to be
surprisingly successful. Dubbed the Blitzkrieg, Germany s use of combined arms warfare was a
race against time...on the tactical, operational and strategic levels for the Wehremacht and would
result in several dramatic successes throughout the war. Despite these successes, Germanywas not
able to exploit the tactical victories at the operational level of war. This was primarily due to a
lack of confidence in the tactic by many German Generals and by not allowing subordinate leaders
to exercise initiative in the absence or orders. In order to understand why the Blitzkrieg did not
prove to be a war winning innovation for Germany, one must first understand how it was initially
employed and why it proved so successful. Early in 1939, with Germany expanding into the
Rhineland, an invasion of Poland was inevitable. German Generals Lewinski and Blumentritt
understood that while Poland fielded a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recognizing the slow reaction time of French leaders, Guderian assumed the risk of a lightly
defended bridgehead and opted in favor of the overall operational mission, ordering two of his
divisions to press the attack westward. Furthermore, Germany lacked a clear operational concept
for the employment of its armored force in these cases, thus adding to the complexity of the
operation. With no clear operational concept, Guderian was forced to make a tactical decision
based on his situational understanding of the battle, as opposed to following operational plans that
were laid out days earlier. This decision ultimately resulted in Guderian being relieved of his
command, albeit for a short period of time, and demonstrates an early form of mission command in

China s Rise Of Power
China s Rise to Power
In the past decade, China has proven their potential to be peaceful in their rise to power. The
United States was acknowledged as one of the leading world powers in the late 19th century,
following the Cold War. This power came to be as a result of significant domestic industrialization
and widespread international influence. However, China s case is a bit more complex. It s rise to
power was marked by the Communist Party s completion of its sixth 5 year plan in 1982. Despite
the country s rapid development, much corruption and violence had occurred in its beginning years.
Still, China will likely not repeat the same mistakes and will avoid international conflict in its
advancement. This can be predicted by examining the country s current economic growth, stable
relationships with trading partners, and their keen focus on keeping citizens satisfied with the
government.
The Chinese Communist revolution, beginning in 1949, signified the start of the country s desire
for social, political, and economic change. Mao Zedong, founder of the People s Republic of
China, grew up in poverty and aimed to dismantle a system of inequality and oppression. His
platform was enticing and quickly supported by many. Still, this revolution was not a peaceful
one. His Red Army successfully defeated both the US Army and the Japanese. As a result, China
was reunified as a sovereign state. However, this seems to be the height of Mao Zedong s positive
influence. His so called

future job market in Hospitality Industry. With the promotion of wine tourism, F B service
professionals with right skills are needed to deliver required service. In the current scenario
where people have started to use spare money and time, there is a wide scope of introduction of
wine as a drink with food in general masses. As we have burgeoning middle class with spare
money and time, there is big market to cater at home front.
The process of preparation, production, storing and service of wines itself involves lots of
employment opportunities and economic potential. With cheap labour in India we can do lot more
than developed countries of west and give good competition in quality and price for the production
and preparation of quality wines. India can certainly be favourite outsourced destination for
production of quality grapes for wine production and even become producers of finest wines.
As vinification requires professionals to prepare wine hence promoting vinification will enhance
many outlets for source of wine as a drink along with dinner, rather than spirits. Once the
difference of spirits and wine is established, we will see a lot of demand for wines.
Hence viticulture vinification can bring International recognition to Indian wines and due to cheap
labour India will see a boom in wine tourism. At the same time we will require

Tb Vaccine Essay
Treatments
There is a TB vaccine (bacilli calmette guerin, or BCG) that is used in many countries to prevent
TB. BCG is almost never used in the U.S., since the risk of getting TB is low. The vaccine is not
very effective in adults and can cause a false positive tuberculin skin test, making it very difficult
to use the tuberculin skin test to check people for TB. The vaccine is recommended for infants in
parts of the world where TB is common.
Treatment for TB is often a success, but it is a long process. It usually takes 6 to 9 months to treat
TB. In some cases, it can take up to 2 years. Active TB is treated with a combination of antibiotics
typically prescribed for 6 months; if, at that point, the TB is still active, the treatment is extended
for a period consisting of two to three months to a full year of treatment. If the TB bacteria are
resistant to the most commonly prescribed antibiotics known as multidrug resistant TB, then
treatment may be extended to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

embezzlement, cybercrime, copyright infringement, money laundering, identity theft, and forgery.
(4*) White Collar Crimesare usually directly associated with some sort of corruption. In this essay I

Firstly, you can offer compensation for the request which you are, more or less, forcing this victim
into doing. On the other hand, you can imply, and sometimes enforce, a threat. This threat does not
necessarily mean physical, however, physically threatening someone is a type of extortion. Another
threat enforced through corruption could be loss of finances. Having a corrupt influence on
someone, usually implies, it comes from a place of fear. In some situations, this implication is the
furthest from the truth. Corrupt influence can also occur through affection; as we grow
relationships with certain people around us we start to trust their opinion. Clearly this person has
earned this trust over time as you have developed a relationship with them, however, under certain
circumstances, this person could use the trust you have empowered them with for their personal
gain. Embezzlement may occur in many different circumstances. Sometimes, it can cost a person
to lose millions of dollars to another individual or something as simple as a small, every day
product. Embezzlement may be defined by fraudulent conversion of another s property or money
by a person to whom it has been entrusted. (4*) For example, if a waitress in a restaurant were to
take your order, bring your food, and proceed to collect the payment without punching it into the

Visio Analysis Adidas
Visio Analysis Adidas has five types of suppliers which are main suppliers, subcontractors,
material and other service providers, licensees and agents. Main suppliers supply products whether
it is for exports or domestics market consumption. Subcontractors are the factories that are
subcontracted by the suppliers to perform manufacturing operations which the main supplier are
not able to do. Material and other service providers might not have a direct relationship supply
goods and services to main suppliers. Licensees are independent companies which handle the
design, production, and distribution of specific products under the license of Adidas. In 2016,
Adidas have worked with over 60 licensees and the suppliers outsourced the products from 377
factories in 48 countries. Companies that are independent who act as mediators to source product
manufacturing, overlook the manufacturing processes, then sell the final product to the Adidas.
Every single stage in this logistic network is connected, this helps the flow of products, funds, and
information. If there is a lack of co ordination it will lead to an increase in cost consequently,
resulting into diminishing profitability which is not what any business wants (Adidas group,
2017). SWOT Analysis Strengths: Adidas have an objective of being the world s best sports brand
which shows great ambitions. They have maintained a great image therefore they have a lot of

  • 6. Regret By Kate Chopin Much of Kate Chopin s writing examines the issues of freedom and autonomy, often in terms of class, race and gender. Although race was the clearest indication of lower class status in the American South in the late 19th century, women meanwhile belonged to a subset of each class such that the men held the legal and social authority. Women of each class were subordinate citizens. The majority of women did not manage their own property, possessions tended to be passed down to sons rather than daughters and women s role in society was limited to being wives and mothers. Chopin s independence of spirit is reflected in how she embraced liberation after her husband s death: she took over the running of his general store and plantation for over a year and after she sold up, to support herself and her young family, she began to write. In her writing, Chopin often depicts characters who find themselves at odds with their societal norms like the story Regret which was written in 1894 and accurately fits into the ideal as it presents a woman who gives the impression that she is at ease with her life however new attitudes arise as she ... Instead of artists applying brushstrokes towards paintings that encompassed realistic ideas, a new type of theme was known in the early 19th and late 20th centuries. This new theme of art came from Impressionism, which was a movement in France that dealt with painting outside of the studio or museums and painting nature directly. However, these painters did not only paint scenes from nature but also streets, cabarets, rivers, and busy boulevards, wherever human beings were present. Impressionists painting referred to originality seen in past artworks by utilizing bright colors, dynamic brushstrokes, and a smaller scale. By the 1880s a new style of painting had emerged in France and other European nations, which was Post Impressionism. Post Impressionism was different from Impressionism in that Post Impressionism emphasized not only on color and light but also focused more on structure and form. From this merger approximately $36.24 would be added in value per share this results in a value of $107.24 per share. We recommend that CSX does not offer more than $95 per share. This will ensure that CSX does not overpay for the acquisition and will create a positive NPV even if they do not realize all of the potential synergies. In recent acquisitions, the average offer price was 16.175X the earnings per share EPS. Using this multiple and Conrail s 1995 EPS, an offer price of $75.86 is produced. CSX s blended offer of $89.07 produces a multiple of nearly 19X the EPS and using our recommended max of $95 produces a 20.26X EPS. These are both higher than the average but do not exceed the acquisition price of Santa Fe Pacific by Burlington Northern that was priced at 21.4X EPS. • 11. First Among Euals CONSIDERATION IN MARKING [pic] To what extent is the prime minister first among equals? This essay will compare the prime ministerial styles of Thatcher and Blair and compare presidential styles to collective cabinet government. It explains what can happen when a prime minister has too much power and is more than just first among equals. It concludes that in recent years the prime minster has exerted too much power and is ignoring his cabinet. By the 1830s the Westminster system of what we now as cabinet government emerged. The head of the government is the prime minister. Short later stated there was no collective just diktats (BBC News Online, 2003). Weller (2003) argued this led to questions as to where government fitted in within Thatcher and Blair s respective times in power. Weller (2003) further stated Thatcher did not want a cabinet by committee but government by her with selected ministers. Coxell et al (1997) give an example of Thatcher s power when she ignored the advice from the top military advisors and chose to deploy troops to the Falklands. Furthermore, in 1986 she allowed the USA to use British military bases to bomb Libya, it later emerged the defence secretary of the time George Younger and the cabinet had no knowledge of this arrangement with the USA. At present we have a coalition government in power. Leech et al state that in practice prime ministerial power may vary based on the individual prime minister who has the ability to exploit his cabinet (pp.201 205). This can clearly be seen in our current coalition government. Cameron does not have the political power to exploit his government as he needs to please his party. However, in Cameron s case this also includes the party which he is in coalition with. Therefore, the prime minister has to include others ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Trope Of Shame In Lancelot And Guinevere Throughout this course, the class has read various pieces of Arthurian literature. Each of these pieces hold their own contributions in the genre and differentiate both plot and concepts. Most of these concepts can be labeled as tropes, which are figurative or metaphorical use of a word or expression. One trope that was found while analyzing the texts was shame, or the painful feeling of humiliation. The trope of shame is prominent in both the medieval legend Lancelot or the Knight of the Cart and Natsume Soseki s more modern story, Kairo ko. Both sources emphasizes the shame that is felt by Lancelot and Guineverebut in two very contrasting ways. These sources can also be compared to the tale Sir Gawainin the Green Knight, which deals with shame a lesson that can be learned, rather than a pitiful thing. All three of these Arthurian legends use the trope of shame to shape both the characters and stories in their own way. In ChrГ©tien de Troyes Lancelot or the Knight of the Cart, Lancelot s first shameful action is hesitating after his is offered to ride in the prisoner cart by the dwarf driving it. ChrГ©tien de Troyes writes: At that, the dwarf continued on his way without slowing down even an instant for the knight, who hesitated but two steps before climbing in. He would regret this moment of hesitation and be accused and shamed for it; he would come to consider himself ill used. But Reason, who does not follow Love s command, told him to beware of getting in, warned and and counseled him not to do anything for which he might incur disgrace or reproach (177). No matter what decision Lancelot would have made, he would have been shamed in the end. If Lancelot have no hesitated, he would have been shamed by the rest of the knightly community for riding the cart despite his mentality. No matter what, Guinevere would have pressured Lancelot into shame for hesitation or not riding the cart in general. After Lancelot finds Guinevere, the forbidden lovers have a conversation regarding Lancelot s adventure. It it revealed that Guinevere knows about Lancelot s two step hesitation to get into the dwarf s cart and is displeased with his actions. It is an integral component of the plasma membrane of animal cells, it is a precursor of steroid hormones and bile acids, and it plays a crucial role in the formation of the myelin sheath that surrounds axons. Discovery of the LDL Receptor Goldstein and Brown began their work by measuring the activity of 3 hydroxy 3 methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase (HMG CoA reductase), which catalyzes the rate limiting step in cholesterol production. Goldstein and Brown found that when normal fibroblasts were grown in serum, HMG CoA reductase activity was low. Additionally, they found that when cholesterol carrying lipoproteins was removed from the culture medium, HMG CoA reductase activity increased by a large margin. Furthermore, they observed that HMG CoA reductase activity was suppressed when LDL was reintroduced to the medium. This inhibition of HMG CoA reductase by LDL, and the fact that low concentrations of LDL suppressed HMG CoA reductase activity, led Goldstein and Brown to believe that a receptor with high affinity for LDL was involved in the inhibition of cholesterol synthesis. When Goldstein and Brown measured HMG CoA reductase activity in FH homozygous fibroblasts grown in normal serum, they came to the conclusion that HMG CoA reductase activity was not affected by the presence of LDL in ... • 19. The Four Key Differences Between Project-Based... BAM 514 International Business Management Unit # 3 Question #1. Discuss the four key differences between project based collaborations and equity joint ventures. As focal firms internationalize they often run into risks that are beyond their capabilities to overcome by themselves. Consequently, many firms often conclude it makes sense to work with a strategic partner with capabilities complimentary to their own to achieve certain projects. When two or more firms come together to manage risks associated with internationalization, they form international partnerships, or international strategic alliances. By working together, focal firms use the capabilities, resources or other strengths of their partners to achieve projects they would otherwise be unable to do alone. There are two basic forms of partnerships, Equity joint ventures and Project based collaborations. To understand the differences between these two basic types of partnerships it helps to understand how each is structured. (S. Tamer Cavusgil, Gary Knight, and John R. Riesenberger, 2012. International Business: The New Realities. Second edition, page 411). An Equity joint venture is a traditional partnership in which a new entity is created through the combination of assets by two or more parent companies. Together, the firms share joint ownership of the new legal entity. Typically, this may be a result of one firm not having all the resources or assets necessary to exploit an opportunity, or it may be the only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Equal Citizen And Gender Status equal citizen. This approach requires an expansion of the meaning of equality to include all choices people make in their lives. If we look at it in this way, equality means the right not to have one s life split between career and family. It also means the right to control one s own social roles. From an inequality perspective, the test in any case would be whether the policy or practice in question integrally contributes to the maintenance of an underclass or a deprived position because of genderstatus. If the law continues to contribute to the repression of women, the court must then deliberate if the law has a substantial impact on perpetuating the inequality of women. If so, the court must use the strict scrutinyanalysis to see if the law is reasonable in having a compelling state interest. Therefore, the inequality test moves away from the current equal protection analysis in that is does not need to have a link between similarly situated classes of people. This difference is important because laws that govern reproductive biology rule ways in which women and men are not similarly situated. Moreover, this test demands a strict security analysis of cases that perpetuate the oppression of women, rather than the intermediate scrutiny analysis, which is, applied to all gender cases. Therefore, things that make men and women different like pregnancy or sexuality would automatically prompt strict scrutiny. From this new equality perspective then, the abortionquestion ... He think that if people have money, they must have stole it from the poor, or eared it a dishonourable way. The director uses repetition to show this point, because even though he meets may wealthier people who have not stolen, he still has this negative stereotype. Though we know that may of the richer characters probably earned their money by working for it, the less wealthy automatically assume that since they have more, they think they are better than the rest of the people, and they give no regards to people poorer than themselves. He introduces us to Colonel Satoris Snopes, or Sarty, a boy who is mature beyond his years. Due to the harsh circumstances of life, Sarty must choose between justice and his family. At a tender age of ten, Sarty starts to believe his integrity will help him make the right choices. His loyalty to family doesn t allow for him to understand why he warns the De Spain family at such a young age. As Abner is angry about being accused of burning down a barn, being driven from the last town they lived in, and having total disdain for his new land owner, he chooses to take that anger out on the de Spain family by burning down their barn. Stage 3: Signaling This collective bargaining model rests on the worker s representatives submitting proposals that they consider ideal, but willing to settle for less, and the management willing to concede more than they publicly acknowledge. Sending signals across to the other party, through subtle messages, change of tone, body language, and other cues reveal to the other side that the proposal under discussion will meet with little resistance, can be accepted with modifications, or have a low chance of acceptance. Signaling thereby reveals the resistance point to the other party without making it explicit. Failure to send signals leads to both sides sticking to their positions, causing impasse and a breakdown of negotiation and the dispute escalating to the next level of industrial action. Stage 4: Proposal One of the important stages of collective bargaining negotiations is one side making a proposal in a bid to end the argument and reach a settlement. Abstract In the 21st century, eighty years after William Baer presented his groundbreaking work treating bone and soft tissue infections with live maggots, thousands of therapists around the globe have rediscovered the benefits of maggot therapy. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But before those studies could be carried out, and before widespread use of maggot therapy was imaginable, several technical challenges first had to be overcome. History of Maggot Therapy Early Observations For centuries, the beneficial effects of maggot infested wounds were noted by military surgeons who observed that injured soldiers abandoned on the battlefield fared better and that their wounds healed faster when those wounds were infested with maggots.7 Himself having observed maggot infested wounds during his service in World War I, the orthopedic surgeon, William Baer, was the first to apply maggots systematically to nonhealing wounds while a professor at Johns Hopkins and Children s Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Baer presented his preliminary results in 1929,8 and his entire work in maggot therapy treating over 100 children with osteomyelitis and problematic soft tissue wounds was published posthumously in 1931.9 Technological Advancements That Have Optimized Maggot Therapy Within 5 years of Baer s groundbreaking work, over 1000 American, Canadian, and European surgeons were using maggots in their practice.10 Many hospitals operated their own insectaries for rearing and disinfecting the larvae. He is often called honest Iago by many people, including his superior, Othello. There is a large juxtaposition between Iago s perceived character in the beginning of the play, and the general feeling at the end of the play. There are two possible reasons that this man that many now know to be one of the most infamous antagonists of all time, to be revered, loved, and trusted as a most loyal friend. Ecuador and Gabon withdrew from the organization in 1992 and 1994 as Indonesia in 2007 respectively. OPEC relocated its headquarters from Geneva to Vienna in 1960. The purpose of OPEC, as with any cartel, is to limit supplies in the hope of keeping the price high. The oil industry has been plagued by production booms and falling prices ever since Colonel Drakes discovery of oil at Titusville, Pennsylvania in 1859. Just as major oil companies colluded from the 1920 s to the 1960 s to present prices and profits from falling, members of OPEC meet at a regular basis to set production levels in the hop of maintaining prices. The essential nature of oil (no substitutes) coupled with its limited number of suppliers make it the ideal product monopoly. The reasoning for this would be that when we discuss this tort it should be noted that this involves delving into an individual s private life or thoughts and being unauthorized. If however the church had gotten ahold of Steve s information from listening in on his conversations with members of the church. It should also be noted that tort of appropriation is not a factor as well. The explanation for this is that the individual involved did not consent to his/her use of their picture or likeness or even their name for any type of personal gain. According to the definition of expectation of privacy which is you expect privacy as society agreeing with you, Steve would not really be entitled as a result of the church not saying in words that privacy would be given. Trail Of Tears Essay Trail of Tears The Trail of Tears is a name given to the Cleansing and forced relocation of Native American nations from Southeastern parts of United States following the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The phrase originated from a description of removal of the Choctaw Nation in 1831. We Cherokee Indians have lived in our lands for centuries. The white setters forcefully came into our world and had an eye on our land to grow cotton and other crops. First they wanted to civilize us and save our souls by converting us to Christianity. Many of our people tried to comply, but they thought of us as alien people and looked down upon us. The Choctaw, the Chickasaw, the Cherokee , the Muscogee, and the Seminole (collectively called the Five Civilized Tribes) were living as autonomous nations in what could be called to the American Deep South. They initially started harassing us by stealing livestock, burning and looting our houses and squatting on our land which did not belong to them. The land they coveted was the east of Mississippi as this land was valuable for growing cotton. Several state governments passed laws limiting Native American sovereignty and rights, even though US Supreme Court affirmed our nation to be sovereign in the case of Worcester v. Georgia (1832). Comics are comprised of panels, which are used to divide up narrative events, and gutters, the empty space between each panel. The illustrator can manipulate the thinness of the gutters, facilitating the reading process of each row of panels and allowing the gutter to function as a literal depiction of time and space within a comic (Chute 202). Joshua Brown identifies this incident as one out of the numerous interstices of testimony, in which the readers learn more about Vladek and Artie (Brown 95). These narrative breaks remind the reader that Vladek s account is not a chronicle of undefiled fact but a constitutive process and that remembering is a construction of the past (Brown 95). When Vladek describes his daily work schedule at Auschwitz, the panel depicts the prisoners marching in an orderly fashion right next to an orchestra, and Spiegelman had put it in there as he had just read about the camp orchestra that played as the prisoners marched out the gate (Maus II 54). • 52. Tb Vaccine Essay Treatments There is a TB vaccine (bacilli calmette guerin, or BCG) that is used in many countries to prevent TB. BCG is almost never used in the U.S., since the risk of getting TB is low. The vaccine is not very effective in adults and can cause a false positive tuberculin skin test, making it very difficult to use the tuberculin skin test to check people for TB. The vaccine is recommended for infants in parts of the world where TB is common. Treatment for TB is often a success, but it is a long process. It usually takes 6 to 9 months to treat TB. In some cases, it can take up to 2 years. Active TB is treated with a combination of antibiotics typically prescribed for 6 months; if, at that point, the TB is still active, the treatment is extended for a period consisting of two to three months to a full year of treatment.
