Lessons from the Dalai Lama
Hosting the Dalai Lama means that Santa Clara University wants to have its students become leaders
with values. Values such as compassion, awareness, and intelligence will make a leader that not only
is well respected by coworkers but also trusted in their position of management. The Dalai Lama
teaches how important it is to have ethics and compassion engrained in a lifestyle and business world.
Students attending this seminar will be exposed to a new kind of knowledge allowing them to learn
how to work and lead effectively. I believe that Santa Clara University is making a mark on students
that goes beyond their college years or career. It realizes the importance that lies in technical
knowledge and life skills. Compassion is important to the corporate world because as the Dalai Lama
believes, it is a part of being human. Sometimes being human is not associated with business;
however, I think it s important for students to learn how to be compassionate. The importance of
compassion will allow workers to have more tolerance towards people and pay attention to the big
picture and let go of minor details so they work more efficiently towards their goal. Powerful and
compassion are often not thought about in a combination. The Dalai Lama is a living example of how
to put both of those qualities together. He is powerful in a respect that he has the influence to make a
large impact on the world yet he only uses his power to do good to his people.

Free Will In Sophocles Antigone
Sophocles Antigone is based on the idea of fate and the conflict if free will exists or not. While
Sophocles agrees that free will exists to a certain degree, morality plays a role in determining how
much fate can be changed. Unlike modern day American culture, which emphasizes individual
freedom of choices, the Ancient Greeks thought that life was predetermined by the Gods will and
laws. In Antigone, Sophocles uses the theme of a tragedy, to emphasize the limitations of human
knowledge and wisdom, and the cultural conflict of state laws and religion to show how much religion
played a part in everyday life and culture. In Ancient Greece, suicide was considered a controversial
issue as it represented a problem in free will. Sophocles represented ... Show more content on

According to Beauvoir, while the moralists are enamored with eternal principles, (1), and believe in
God and his sovereign, the realists who boasts in vain about his effective methods and the useful
results achieved (1) are practicalists. While moralists are preoccupied about how their actions
influence the future and afterlife, the realists are concerned with the present. The conflict between
moralists and realists, as a result, has always existed with neither side being able to convince the other
of the validity of its values each side is imprisoned its own value system in the name of which it
rejects the values of its adversary (1). In modern day society, the perception of morality has shifted
into what we known consider ethics. Unlike morality, which is defined by God and the Bible,
however, ethics is defined by people s perceptions of values and principles. Society, as a result,
evolved from one in which values and principles are defined by a preset based on a supernatural being
God and the Bible to a rational one in which people can influence and control. Because people define
what good or bad, man is capable of influencing how their actions play a role to their future, or fate,
emphasizing the idea of free will. Thus, reality and ethics are subject to human decisions and is always
dynamic;

The Birthmark By Judith Fetterley
Beauty can be defined as the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep
satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations, a meaningful design or pattern,
or something else. In The Birthmark it is a tragic and upsetting example of what beauty, gender, and
science represent. Georgiana was devoted to make her husband Alymer happy by jeopardizing her life
so he wouldn t suffer from considering her birthmark. Thus potential perfection is not worth a life.
Analyzing the gender aspect of the story can be explained by Judith Fetterley. She wrote an article
called Women Beware Science: The Birthmark . Alymer simply looks at his wife as someone he can
control and wants nothing for her but to be perfect. Fetterley says, It is the demonstration of how to
murder your wife and get away with it. This story brings a lot of talk of sexual politics and the way
women are sometimes looked at in society. The way some society members describe women are
supposed to honor the man and never have any power over the man, in The Birthmark it is clear that
Alymer looks at Georgiana as a women that is his own property and should be perfect in every aspect
according to him. The gender portion comes into play when the question is asked, what if it was a man
obsession with another man to be perfect or a woman obsession for a man to be perfect? In The
Birthmark Alymer did not wish for Aminadab his servant to be perfect. It is all about gender

Essay on Ethanol Energy
Since the invention of the internal combustion engine, car makers and consumers have been filling the
gas tank with just that, gasoline. Starting out with leaded gasoline then slowly switching to unleaded
gas in the late 1960s until catalytic converters, a new auto part which can only run on unleaded, were
made mandatory in 1975. However over the past couple decades there have been a new contender in
the fuel marketplace to power consumers cars. Ethanol is defined in World Book Student as a type of
alcohol found in alcoholic beverages and used as an automobile fuel (Sheehan 1). Sometimes called
ethyl alcohol or grain alcohol, has been an additive to gasoline since its introduction. The purpose was
to reduce dependence on foreign oil, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There has been a steady increase in the price of gasoline since the end of 2008 when there was a major
push for ethanol gasoline blends; which are categorized as E10 (10% ethanol, 90% gasoline) and
blends all the way up to E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline). E85 is the highest amount of ethanol allow
for sale in retail, but, in Brazil E100 (100% ethanol) is everywhere. It is not even possible to buy
regular gasoline in Brazil anymore. The reason the price stays up is because it costs extra to
manufacture ethanol and put it in as an additive. The process of harvesting the corn, (which is the
most popular crop in the United States for ethanol) then paying for all of the machinery/workers tends
to get expensive. The simple process to make gasoline starts with: digging for oil at oil fields, then
either shipping the barrels from other countries or from our oil fields to refineries. The oil is then
refined into gasoline, the different companies then pay to rent pipelines to ship the fuel to terminals.
The closest terminal to Rexburg is in Pocatello; it is then put onto different trucks and sent to different
gas stations within the area of that terminal. Ethanol is a solvent, which means that it will eat through
rubber, plastic, fiberglass, and certain types of metals; so it cannot be shipped with the gasoline
through the pipelines to the terminals. If it was shipped with the fuel in the lines the cleaning
properties of the Ethanol would pick up any water,

Article Caution Candles By Science World
Having knowledge of chemistry is important in life for some good reasons. One reason is protecting
yourself from obesity by buying specific nail polish. Another reason is knowing that candles can hurt
you. Finally you may find through your everyday Methane Camera there is methane rising from
Sweden s lakes. One Reason why having a knowledge of chemistry is important in everyday life is to
know what you are putting on your nails. In the article Problem Polish by Science World, it says, We
don t have a lot of information about how this chemical reacts in the human body, says toxicologist
Johanna Congleton of the Environmental Working Group, one of the study s authors. But experiments
on animals suggest that triphenyl phosphate may contribute to obesity and interfere with reproductive

In the article Caution Candles by Science World, it states that, When Massoudi tested paraffin candles

very romantic when you wake up with cancer after having your nerves being tampered with, or just
being an idiot and touching the flame.
A third reason why having a knowledge of chemistry is important in everyday life is knowing what
chemicals do such as methane gas and where they come from. In the article Methane Camera by
Science World, it states that, Swedish scientists have built a camera that can see methane, a gas that s
invisible to the naked eye. Methane acts as a powerful greenhouse gas, meaning it traps heat in the
atmosphere and contributes to global climate change. This is important in everyday life because if you

Research Paper On The Great Bear
The Bear: the Hunted Protector Ask any child about constellations and they will know about the star
formation known as The Big Dipper . The stars that form this asterism (Dubhe, Merak, Phecda,
Megrez, Alioth, Mizar, and Alkaid) are the brightest part of the constellation they make whole, Ursa
Major: The Great Bear. Although the constellation is certainly common enough to recognize, I hold a
more personal attachment to it. I grew up nearby a convent which owned a crest marked with Ursa
Major. The convent was a central root of the area, so the people often had the crest and familiar Ursa
Major constellation everywhere. When I look into the night sky and see these familiar stars, they
remind me of the people in the area who became close family and friends. Like the bear it symbolized,
this constellation will always be like a mother bear protecting my sweet memories as if they were

most of the months, the bear runs on four feet. Then, in autumn when the stars are in different
positions, the bear rears on two legs and a hunter attacks it spraying the bear s blood on the trees. This
is why the leaves change colors in the fall. The hunters kill and eat the bear, but the skeleton still
remains on its back during the winter. Then, during the spring, a new bear comes out of its den and,

Source Anonymous Research Paper
Sit tight for the journey ahead as I explain to you, on my coffee induced, sleep deprived binge writing,
the ethics of source anonymity in journalism for the purpose of this paper, I will be writing about
Canada specifically. More specifically, I will touch upon the following: What is the reliability of the
source? Why would a source have to be kept anonymous? To what extent does a journalist keep a
source confidential? Firstly, I will go on to briefly describe the Canadian Act that protects whistle
blowers (the term used to describe someone who brings an issue to light, almost always in their
organization) and the shield law. Next, I will be discussing the ethics in keeping a source anonymous
from the utilitarian point of view, as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated in the CAJ Ethics Guidelines, under Promises to Sources, it is important to discuss with a
source wanting to be kept anonymous whether or not you, as a journalist, are willing to go to jail for
keeping them anonymous when ordered by a court. It is important to discuss with your source that, if
they mislead or lie to you about anything they say, the promise of keeping their anonymity is off.
There have been many cases of journalists going to jail for keeping a source anonymous, even in the
face of the law. If this doesn t show principle, then I don t know what does. There is also the aspect of
acting from duty: a journalist has the duty of reporting to the public in order for them to know the
truth about what s happening in the world. The right thing to do is to keep the source anonymous if it
means that an important story or high classified information will be out for the public to know it is
their right to know. In this perspective, a journalist does not look at their personal consequences
possible incarceration but on the nature of their action to liberate the truth. They have the good
intention, which makes it deontological. If we take a look at the first form of the categorical
imperatives, it follows this as well because of the way they act: keeping a promise they made. A
journalist also has true freedom because they have the autonomy to put themselves in a position of
being in a bad situation with the law, using their rationality to weigh the options of leaking a good
story or the possibility of suffering consequences for

Things are rough all over. (Hinton 35) Ponyboy Curtis says this in the book The Outsiders by S.E.
Hinton. An outsider is someone who is different or doesn t fit in in a certain way, which is why Hinton
never emphasizes who the outsiders are; readers can interpret this book and the outsiders in their own
way because Hinton proves that everyone is an outsider in their own manner. While it can be argued
that every character is an outsider, the main outsiders in this book are Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade,
and Cherry Valance. In a neighborhood of Greasers and Socs, Ponyboy Curtis is a part of a gang on
the greaser side. This gang consists of Ponyboy, obviously, Johnny Johnnycake Cade, Darrel Darry
Curtis, Sodapop Curtis, Keith Two Bit Mathews, Dallas Dally Winston, and Steve Randle. Although
they re all bonded by their grease, Ponyboy does not completely fit in with the rest. [Ponyboy] liked

average greaser finds happiness in violence and dirtiness, (as Cherry Valance, a Soc, says) but Johnny
Cade is able to find comfort in cleaner, gentler things, such as sunsets, poems, and reading. One of the
main moments where Johnny shows this is when he talks about a sunset and says, The mist was what
was pretty...All gold and silver. (Hinton 66). He is very quiet and preserved, which is why the gang
treats him as the pet. Although he and Ponyboy share the idea of loving these things, Johnny loves
them in his own way and finds the deeper meaning in

Should Trade Sanctions Be Stopped Essay
SHOULD ALL TRADE SANCTIONS BE STOPPED?
To most of the world, sanctions are a mixed blessing. On the one hand, they reinforce trade rules and
promote respect for them. On the other hand, they tend to undermine the principles of free trade and
provoke a kind of trade envy (Charnovitz) in other international organizations.
Trade retaliation goes back quite a ways; we see examples of it in much of US law:
Antidumping Act of 1916, which has seen little use.(Charnovitz)
International Labor Organization, from the Treaty of Versailles 1919, which served as an international
dispute system, but no economic measures were ever recommended until 2000, against Burma.
(Charnovitz)
UN ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
World leaders often decide that the most obvious alternatives to sanctions are no good military action
would be too strong and diplomatic protests too weak. Sanctions can provide a satisfying dramatic
display, but avoid the high costs of war.(Library of Economics) This isn t to say that sanctions don t
cost a thing, just that they re often less costly than the alternatives.
A second advantage to sanctions can be seen through foreign pressure to promote internal change,
assuming that the sanctioned government wants to comply with the rules, but can t because of
domestic politics.(Charnovitz) We can see in many cases that sanctions are being imposed primarily
for signaling purposes either for the benefit of allies, other third parties, or once again, their own
citizens. If the sanctions aren t carefully targeted or the costs are too high for the sanctioning country,
the intended signal may be lost.(Library of Economics)
Sanctions intended to change the behavior or government of a target country are very difficult to
design. They have to be imposed as quickly and easily as possible.(Library of Economics) By moving
too slowly, it gives the target country time to adjust by finding alternative markets, finding new allies,
and by gaining domestic support of its own policies.
Another advantage of trade sanctions is the fact that they have the power to be enacted

Negative Effects Of Violent Video Games
September 10, 2017
Writing Assignment #1
Blair Baugher
Introduction The issue of whether or not violent video games encourage children, and teens to be
violent is a heavily debated issue. There are many people who believe that violent video games DO
cause violence in children, and teens, while there are also many people who believe that violent video
games DO NOT cause violence in children, and teens. The relevance of this topic ties into psychology
by further examining how people learn, and the techniques that are prevalent in how they do so. By
stating that violent behavior can arise simply from playing a violent video game, one is relying on the
notion that people will always act in a matter that is reflective of what they are surrounded by.
Summary
Through significant research, there is evidence that violence has risen in America. Some argue that
this is because children and teens are spending more, and more time playing violent video games.
Though there is ample evidence to prove that playing violent video games can have negative effects
on someone, there is no evidence to directly show that the correlation between the two rising numbers
is related. In the reading, Steven F. Gruel, who argued before the supreme court, believes that playing,
and or watching violent video games, causes children to act violently. The cause, Gruel believes, isn t
directly the video games, but the effect they leave on the children. Children are spending more of their
time playing video

What Are The Similarities Between Pyramus And Thisbe And...
Pyramus and Thisbe and Romeo and Juliet are two tragic romance stories that are comparable in many
ways. The similar concepts and elements reflected in the two works portray themes of love and
tragedy, while also expressing the same types of characters and events. The works of the two writers,
Ovid and Shakespeare, were written in completely different time periods, but are remarkably
comparable in the senses of character purpose, elements, theme, and events. The tragic ending of both
stories is suicide, Both pairs of star crossed lovers make the impulsive decision to take their lives as a
result of tragic events and mislead information. In the Prologue of Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare
states, A pair of star crossed lovers take their life, (Romeo and Juliet Prologue line 6). In Pyramus and

The Importance Of Extracurricular Activities And Personal...
Try to remember your first day at school. Generally, teachers cannot even remember the name of any
one of their students. Now, how exactly are they supposed to remember all of their 120 students
personal lives? Contrary to that belief, most students believe that teachers should account for their
extracurricular activities and personal lives. But, not only is that not possible, it is not plausible.
Obviously, for students, keeping up with their work and personal lives is a hard task to manage, but
developing their time management skills is something each student will need to learn to do as they
continue their studies in college. Teachers should not have to plan their curriculum around student
responsibilities due to the numerous types of jobs and extracurricular activities students take part in.
According to Dunbar s Number, we as people can only remember at most 150 names, of course, that
number is the maximum. On average, according to 21 percent of the faculty members of West
Warwick Public Schools, the average numbers of students per class would be 120 to 125 students per
year. Therefore, it makes sense teachers would struggle at remembering even 125 names, let alone
their complex personal lives. Teachers, along with their students names, would have to remember their
students personal lives and then go on to create a curriculum based around those numerous activities.
Obviously, most teachers would find that unreasonable. Therefore, it is more than clear teachers

their quick ratio has decreased by an annual average of about 5% in the past decade. (The quick ratio

shareholders by increasing their free cash flow by an average of 152% annually since 2010. Their free

as much as possible by purchasing used aircrafts.
Even though Delta is lagging in liquidity, their low current assets and quick ratio may be attributed to
the low cost of their assets, which also happens to be part of their key strategy of maximizing
shareholder wealth. This strategy has lead them to be the leader in the industry

Traditional Drug Discovery Methods used trial and error approach substances were introduce to
animals or in vitro on the target without any prior knowledge of what would be the result. The effects
observed in these cases are examined the treatments for the disease. For example, if a drug gives an
effect to a pancreas cells, it can tested for insulin related disease like diabetes.
2. Rational Drug Discovery approach starts with a hypothesis, typically the modification of a present
known molecule giving a therapeutic effect. After selection of biologic, the next process is screening,
this involves the screening of many variants of the prospective therapy. It is a common practice to use:
High Throughput Screening Once a target has been selected, it is usually cloned and expressed to
generate thousands or millions of exact copies which are then incubated separately known as screens
and can be test on the target (Rollins et al,. 2014) A positive reaction are called hits and further
screened to determine if it act on particular target or other targets too. Hit more targets produce a toxic
effect in following trials in animals and humans. The best hits labeled as a lead compound, and can go
for further testing and the others are labeled as backups.
Other method uses extracts from a natural product like plant derived molecules, antimicrobials from
microorganisms, active compounds.

during Vietnam, and the American lives spared as a result of the bomb.
Edward Linenthal s Anatomy of a Controversy conveys that Martin Harwit, the director of the
National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution, wanted to transform the day of August
6. The anniversary of Hiroshima had previously been a day of protest and recrimination, and Harwit s
goal in mind was to turn the anniversary into one of reflection. If the exhibit was perceived in the
wrong way, Harwit feared it could be interpreted as celebration (Linenthal, 19). Veterans who were
aboard the B 29 airplane were the first to direct their criticism over the exhibit, arguing that the exhibit
would not be displayed correctly. It was an insult to every soldier, sailor marine and airman by not
clearly describing that Japan had actually caused the United States intervention in the war (Linenthal,
20). Following the first draft, a few historians felt as though the proposed draft did not adequately do

(Carlyle). Another really important part of Lululemon s success has been that they have offered free
yoga classes and use local ambassadors who embody the Lululemon lifestyle and who promote the
brand. A blogger has described the ambassador program as:
A Lululemon ambassador is described as someone who embodies the lululemon lifestyle and lives the
culture. These people range from local yoga instructors to Olympic athletes. It s interesting to see how
the ambassadors and Lululemon benefit from this program especially when their ambassadors are on a
national television show. None of the ambassadors are payed to wear Lululemon clothing, rather they
are supported with free product and anything else within reason they may request (Ritchie).
Since the craze of Lululemon had taken off many rival companies such as gap, nike, Nordstorm and
others have tried to capitalize on the yoga market. Rival companies have priced their clothing less then
Lululemon, however they have not been able to outperform or take loyal customers away from
Lululemon.
Lululemon has been rated as Top U.S Apparel Companies by Profit Margin and the Fastest Growing

The Genocide In Rwanda
Rape itself is a sensitive topic, although it was desensitized by the Hutu men after they raped
approximately 250,000 women (Brysiewicz et al. 2). The genocide in Rwanda was devastating,
causing problems with deeper roots than a normal war. Not only were there upwards of 1 million
deaths, a whole community was destroyed and corrupted by HIV/AIDS. Rape was such a driving
force of the genocide because the Tutsi women were sexually sweeter, and it allowed the community
to feel destroyed (Brysiewicz et al. 3). Rape babies serve as constant reminder of the tragedy; the
effects are everlasting and people slowly died from HIV/AIDS, as well as social isolation. This source

When a women is raped in their culture, she loses her virginity which leaves room for other people to
assume they are a slut or do not appreciate modern marriage. Social isolation occurs among these
women and their life is practically ruined (Brysiewicz et al. 3). Men look down on women who are
infected with HIV/AIDS because they are unclean. They would not want to run the risk of getting
infected as well. Many Rwandan men also do not appreciate condoms as much as people in other parts
of the world. When they marry they want to have kids and want sex to be a sacred thing when they
first marry, as that is a common custom in Rwandan culture. Also, many of the rape victims had
children as a result of rape. This restricted them even more to marrying because that had to care for a
child and the male would have not liked that the child was not

The Importance Of Geography In The Environment
Numerous people have no clue exactly how important geography is in their day to day lives, people do
not stop and think what exactly this miraculous concept is that they are using. Those who do not
question what they are using or how this came into society are growing up closed minded and are less
willing to accept other people s cultural beliefs. The study of physical features in relation to the
environment, in order to aid and protect the future of human activity on earth, is geography. In
addition, geography deals with economics, politics, populations throughout the world, comparing
cultures from region to region, historical backgrounds, and studying settlement trends. The importance
of geography is shown through aiding businesses by appealing to customers within certain regions,
predicting natural disasters and preparing for those that may harm human populace, and solving and
prevent future issues through government intervention.
Since the start of the first two similar businesses, there has been competition in order to please
customers and sell more products than the other businesses. Through the use of geography, businesses
have the opportunity to prosper by pleasing the consumers. While winter coat companies look where
they should expand their company closer to the equator since the climate is much warmer near the
equator. Based on weather an ideal place to expand a coat company is Antarctica, even though people
who live in Antarctica need winter coats a company looking to exceed their average profit would not
expand to Antarctica since few people live there. A coat company is more likely to expand their
company to Greenland since it is closer to the north pole and more people live there than Antarctica.
Knowing the climate of an area, for a winter coat company is important in order to insure the company
only expands to where people will purchase winter coats. Not only are businesses able to maximize
their profit through the location of their business, but also by giving customers coupons based on what
they bought before. The goal of businesses is to draw customers into their store, since there is a
greater possibility of the customer to buy products once they enter the store. When

The Alamo Movie Analysis
The Alamo is a 2004 American war film about the Battle of the Alamo amid the Texas Revolution; it
is a motion picture that catches the dejection and fear of men sitting tight for two weeks for what they
hope to be sure passing, and it some way or another succeeds in taking those popular society brand
names like Davy Crockett and James Bowie and giving them human structure. The film was
coordinated by Texan John Lee Hancock, delivered by Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, and Mark Johnson,
dispersed by Touchstone Pictures, and featuring Dennis Quaid as Sam Houston, Billy Bob Thornton as
Davy Crockett, and Jason Patric as James Bowie. The film relates to history, the Alamo looks exact,
and, in reality, we find that San Antonio de Béxar was deliberately re made with small saving of cost.
In any case, a feeling of the way the occasions at the Alamo are joined with the national story of
slavery, development, and the evacuation of Native American from the eastern United States in the
1830s and 1840s is missing. On the off chance that we incorporate this bigger story, we can maybe
figure out the more extensive point of view that at first created enthusiasm for the venture. Texas

Analysis on McNabs Island Essay
McNabs Island is located at the mouth of the Halifax Harbor, and its size is approximately 395
hectares. On McNabs Island, the highest elevation is 45 meters. The elevation of this island rises
toward the middle so that the elevation of central land is higher than the edge. Moreover, the
proportion of its flat areas is approximately 20%, which mostly occurs at hilltops and coastal beaches.
The proportion of gentle and moderate slopes are around 25%, and most of them occur in the middle
area of the island; the proportion of the steep slopes is about 30% which are located near and at the
coasts. Furthermore, from the slope and elevation map which we did before, we can tell that the
shoreline has a lower elevation with steep slopes or flat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the opposite, if there is a flat or gentle ground, and some kinds of vegetation covering, the volume
and speed of overland flow will decrease. For the coastal environment and processes of the island, the
low energy waves create flat beaches because waves sediments are pushed by the wind toward the
coastline. On the opposite, the high energy waves create coastal cliffs from wave erosion, and when
coastal cliffs are formed, waves will break and release a great deal of energy. In addition, the island
shorelines vary from cobbled stone to fine sand, and with salt marshes in a few coves such as the one
near Maugers Beach. The sandy shores are mostly located at Ives Cove and Wreck Cove. Cobbles
shores are mostly located at Hangmans Beach and Finlays. In addition, there are a few rocky shores in
the region such as the one which is located at Maugers Beach or McNabs Cove. Furthermore, there are
some infrastructures near the coast such as building, wharves and streets. For the solar aspect and
micro climate of McNabs Island, most slopes are facing to the east, west and south, and there only a
few north facing slopes. Actually, north slopes always receive less solar energy, and south slopes are
much brighter and warmer (Course Lecture, 2013). However, north facing slopes seem to have a
moister soil and more vegetation. Even though south facing slopes receive more direct sunlight and
snow will melt

How Did Charles Perkins Impact Australian Society
Charles Perkins played an extremely significant role in the struggle for rights and freedom of
Aboriginal people. He was born in 1936 and was an Australian Aboriginal activist, the first Australian
Aboriginal to graduate from university, and he also led the freedom ride in 1965. He was a manager of
the Foundation for Aboriginal Affairs, an organisation that took a key role in getting a Yes vote for the
1967 referendum regarding Aboriginal rights. His controversial actions allowed him to successfully
reduce discrimination against aboriginals. He has also exposed the discrimination and segregation that
existed in Australian society, he then tried to educate the Australian society to reduce racial
discrimination and get greater equality or indigenous Australians. Perkins was later elected as the
deputy chairperson of the Australia and Torres straight islander commission.

Knowing how to advocate for clients by being assertive is a personal strength. By standing your
ground, making needs known, and willing to present a subject that may be uncomfortable makes it a
personal strength. Determining when to and when not to advocate for clients is a weakness. As an
advocate you should be prepared to advocate for the clients wellbeing. Being able to negotiate is a

Your personal goals surrounding advocacy. As a social worker and advocate it s imperative to set

Essay on The Patriot
The Patriot, written by Robert Rodat, takes place in South Carolina and reveals a widowed father s
love for his family and trying to keep them together, despite the Revolutionary War that had begun.
Trying to keep his demons from reappearing, Benjamin Martin faces his fear of his past coming back
to haunt him after serving in the French and Indian War. Martin is a South Carolina farmer who lost
his wife, Elizabeth, and reluctantly signs up to join the Continental Army after his eldest son, Gabriel
joined the regulars to fight against the British. After a battle began on Martin s plantation, Benjamin
helped wounded soldiers from both sides and was approached by William Tavington, a colonel with

fought to the end for the cause of freedom. Between Gabriel s dedication to the cause and Benjamin
Martin s military experience, the dedication of the men fighting, the cause of freedom was fought on
all fronts. However, during the fights, many men were lost, including another of Benjamin Martin s
sons, Gabriel. After Gabriel s death, Martin s fears were solidified and vowed not to fight for anyone s
causes. However, he realized that being a true patriot was the only way to honor his son s deaths, so he
fought for the cause of freedom and was truly victorious in his fights.
While The Patriot was a very successful major motion picture, characters from the movie actually
mirror those of characters that were indeed real. Colonel Tavington s character is based on the life of
Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton the subordinate of Lt. General Charles Earl Cornwallis of the British Army.
Benjamin Martin s character was based on Francis Marion (which is also now a famous hotel in
historic downtown Charleston), also known as Swamp Fox fought Indians. In the movie Martin and
his men destroyed the Indians, however in the reality Marion and just a few of his men survived.
Not only were there differences in the characters in the movie and those of the real

The Pros And Cons Of Valley Forge
There s a part on a word doc. for the conclusion.
Valley Forge
I am a soldier at Valley Forge, sacrificing myself for my suffering country so that we all can be free
from Britain s control. I am in tatter d clothes and have barely enough food to survive, but I ll go
through this just so my country doesn t have to suffer any more. The war started on December 1777,
me along with the rest of the army camped out at Valley Forge (Roden 141). A few young women
developed scarlet fever, a fascination with British soldiers and their bright red coats (Roden 141).
My nine month term has ended for serving in the war and I have the option to re enlist or not to re
enlist. Furthermore, after putting some thought into it, I have decided to re enlist because more people
will suffer if I leave. Britain, with an army to enforce her tyranny, has declared that she has a right (not
only to TAX) but to BIND us in ALL CASES WHATSOEVER, and if being bound in that manner, is
not slavery, then is there not such a thing as slavery upon earth (Paine 153). I m fighting for my
country s freedom, if I leave George Washington it s less likely we ll win, and Britain will have
forever control over us and they will tax and makes us slaves if we do not cooperate they could even
put us in jail . Congress came to help because of the bad conditions (Powell 149). Many of us have no
shoes and tatter d clothes if I leave more people will have these conditions even with congress help.

4th Amendment Research Paper
In 1791, a vital document for the United States of America was written. The Bill of Rights. James
Madison fulfilled the Anti Federalists wishes by adding a list of rights to the constitution in order for
the document to be ratified. The Bill of Rights addresses rights and freedoms which were violated
under British rule. Although all 10 amendments are important, I have analyzed each one and ranked
their importance. In 1791, some amendments would seem more important than others due to the recent
events from the Revolution. Each amendment is relevant in its own way but some are exercised more
than others by individuals in the United States. The first amendment of the Bill of Rights is the most
important amendment.

My Experience At The Age Of Five
At the age of five, I experienced my first dentistry. As they d work on my teeth I would ask question
like What is that? , What does it do? This experience did not only trigger my career goal but made me
who I am. After my first experience I loved looking at people smile and going to the dentist every
month. I was bullied at the age of six for this very reason. As I grew older I developed three missions
in life. One, to finish school and earn my high school degree, two to start college , and three to earn
my degree and start working as a dentist. Soon these missions became goals. After I finished high
school I set new missions: one to start college, two to earn my Bachelor s degree and my doctoral
degree and three to get a good score on my Dental Acceptance test.
After I finished high school, I started to search for community college with dental classes. That s when
I heard of Tarrant County College (TCC) .I immediately ran to the school and applied as soon as
possible. After a month or so I got a letter allowing me to start college, as I read the words hope raised
up in my body. I asked my older sister Iftah, to help me get strategies for college because I was new to
the idea. During August, me and my sister Iftah created a strategy list. For me to be a dentist I first
need to complete a bachelor s degree. Getting a bachelor s required hard work and commitment.
Saying hard work did not mean just slacking off it meant I had to have good grades and a perfect

Currently while reading, it is safe to say the main protagonist of the novel is trying to escape his past
life by leaving behind everything he s known for a new adventure featuring new people. Already he
has tried to fit in by being something he is not. It is evident through his speech versus his thoughts.
Short term events could consist of him changing who he is to fit into the current way of life he has
walked into. Long term events could consist of the adventure he has with the new people he has met.
He begins to fall for a taken girl amongst it all, but never voices his feelings for her. In the future the
most important events could involve the girl and the lessons he learns along the way based on what is
right compared to what is wrong.

perspective on the important events happening as the story progresses?

Unfortunately, freshwater snails like many other river species across North America are threatened.
The abundance and variety of snails have dramatically declined over the last 80 years, especially those
species that inhabit streams and rivers. Approximately 60 species of freshwater snails are presumed
extinct, 20 are on the federal endangered or threatened species list, and another 290 species are of
conservation concern nationwide. The decline of freshwater snails began in the early twentieth
century. Dam construction and other channel modifications, siltation, and industrial and agricultural
pollution have all degraded the river habitats on which most species depend. As a result, the species
richness and the abundance of freshwater snails have declined dramatically. This decline has been
especially pronounced in the Southeastern United States where these animals are most diverse. The
continued loss and decline of freshwater snails and other river species are testament to the fact that
despite significant water quality improvements made in the last 25 years, much work remains if we are

Chemiluminescence Lab
In this experiment, luminol, a compound that produces chemiluminescence when oxidized in the
presence of a base by an oxidizing agent like hydrogen peroxide, was synthesized, and its presence
was confirmed by observing chemiluminescence. Cheminluminescence is the process by which a
photon is released when a reaction occurs, producing light. A similar process, bioluminescence is
observed in nature when fireflies and jellyfish produce light. Chemiluminescence is identical to
bioluminescence, except for the fact that bioluminescence involves an enzyme, whereas
chemiluminescence uses a chemical catalyst.
Two types of light emission are fluorescence and phosphorescence. In its stable condition, an electron
exists in a ground singlet state. During a reaction, it may absorb energy and become elevated to an
excited state. In most situations, the electron returns to the ground singlet state by passing through a
number of vibrational states and releasing energy, which is not perceived by the human eye. However,
sometimes an electron may release energy all at once in one packet to go from its excited ... Show

Foreshadowing in William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily Essay
Foreshadowing in William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily William Faulkner paints a tragic tale about the
inevitability of change and the futility of attempting to stop it in A Rose for Emily . This story is about
a lonely upper class woman struggling with life and traditions in the Old South. Besides effective uses
of literary techniques, such as symbolism and a first plural person narrative style, Faulkner succeeds in
creating a suspenseful and mysterious story by the use of foreshadowing, which gives a powerful
description about death and the tragic struggle of the main character, Miss Emily. In general the use of
foreshadowing often relates to events in a story, and few are attempted to describe character. Faulkner

The smell that upsets the community is the next foreshadowing of the death of Homer. The smell
comes a short time after her sweetheart...had deserted her (509). The manner of Homer s death is
implied in the conversation between Miss Emily and the pharmacist as she is buying arsenic, a poison
used to kill rats, as well as the picture of skull and bones , which is exactly what the town people find
left of Homer (511). The use of foreshadowing to describe the changes in Emily physical and
emotional life is subtler and relies heavily on symbolism. The descriptions of the decaying house
symbolize Miss Emily s physical and emotional decay, and as well as her mental problems. It foretells
of her downfall, a fallen monument (507). The house is full of dust and dark shadows, It smelled of
dust and disuse a close, dank smell , and symbolizes the death filled environment that Emily lives in
(508). To describe Emily s life, Faulkner effectively uses foreshadowing in conjunction with structure
in the chronology of events. He opens the story with her death, goes backward in time when she is old,
goes backward again to the foreshadowed death of Homer, and then backward again to her romance
with Homer and finally to her death. Her first description is dark; black was her color, a representation
of death, depression and gloom. Her second mention is an upright torso motionless figure

Outsourcing American Jobs Hurt U.s. Economy Essay
Outsourcing American Jobs Hurt U.S. Economy The dawn of the outsourcing era. Many large U.S.
corporations cultivates outsourcing faster than we can imagine. The trend that began in the late 1970
and picked up speed in the 1900s with the opening trade with China, India, and Eastern Europe (
Outsourcing: What s the true Impact ). In its broadest sense, outsourcing is simply contracting out
functions that had been done in house a longtime U.S. practice ( Globalization: Threat or Opportunity

through the cooperation of internalization, federal, and state governments with corporate companies to
produce products on a reduce production cost, and offer services on lower labor cost. When a U.S.
manufacture product, and buys material from an intermediate supplier from out of the country rather
than producing them in house, that is what is called outsourcing. Also, when U.S. corporation hires
outside contractor out of the country to do U.S. call center services for less labor cost that is
outsourcing. When a company deals out its operational task, such as payroll, accounting, and software
operations that is outsourcing. Obviously, all of these examples seem to benefit and in favor of the
corporations. To get the clear understanding of outsourcing for major corporation perspective, I have

  • 2. Lessons from the Dalai Lama Hosting the Dalai Lama means that Santa Clara University wants to have its students become leaders with values. Values such as compassion, awareness, and intelligence will make a leader that not only is well respected by coworkers but also trusted in their position of management. The Dalai Lama teaches how important it is to have ethics and compassion engrained in a lifestyle and business world. Students attending this seminar will be exposed to a new kind of knowledge allowing them to learn how to work and lead effectively. I believe that Santa Clara University is making a mark on students that goes beyond their college years or career. It realizes the importance that lies in technical knowledge and life skills. Compassion is important to the corporate world because as the Dalai Lama believes, it is a part of being human. Sometimes being human is not associated with business; however, I think it s important for students to learn how to be compassionate. The importance of compassion will allow workers to have more tolerance towards people and pay attention to the big picture and let go of minor details so they work more efficiently towards their goal. Powerful and compassion are often not thought about in a combination. The Dalai Lama is a living example of how to put both of those qualities together. He is powerful in a respect that he has the influence to make a large impact on the world yet he only uses his power to do good to his people. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Free Will In Sophocles Antigone Sophocles Antigone is based on the idea of fate and the conflict if free will exists or not. While Sophocles agrees that free will exists to a certain degree, morality plays a role in determining how much fate can be changed. Unlike modern day American culture, which emphasizes individual freedom of choices, the Ancient Greeks thought that life was predetermined by the Gods will and laws. In Antigone, Sophocles uses the theme of a tragedy, to emphasize the limitations of human knowledge and wisdom, and the cultural conflict of state laws and religion to show how much religion played a part in everyday life and culture. In Ancient Greece, suicide was considered a controversial issue as it represented a problem in free will. Sophocles represented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Beauvoir, while the moralists are enamored with eternal principles, (1), and believe in God and his sovereign, the realists who boasts in vain about his effective methods and the useful results achieved (1) are practicalists. While moralists are preoccupied about how their actions influence the future and afterlife, the realists are concerned with the present. The conflict between moralists and realists, as a result, has always existed with neither side being able to convince the other of the validity of its values each side is imprisoned its own value system in the name of which it rejects the values of its adversary (1). In modern day society, the perception of morality has shifted into what we known consider ethics. Unlike morality, which is defined by God and the Bible, however, ethics is defined by people s perceptions of values and principles. Society, as a result, evolved from one in which values and principles are defined by a preset based on a supernatural being God and the Bible to a rational one in which people can influence and control. Because people define what good or bad, man is capable of influencing how their actions play a role to their future, or fate, emphasizing the idea of free will. Thus, reality and ethics are subject to human decisions and is always dynamic; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Birthmark By Judith Fetterley Beauty can be defined as the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations, a meaningful design or pattern, or something else. In The Birthmark it is a tragic and upsetting example of what beauty, gender, and science represent. Georgiana was devoted to make her husband Alymer happy by jeopardizing her life so he wouldn t suffer from considering her birthmark. Thus potential perfection is not worth a life. Analyzing the gender aspect of the story can be explained by Judith Fetterley. She wrote an article called Women Beware Science: The Birthmark . Alymer simply looks at his wife as someone he can control and wants nothing for her but to be perfect. Fetterley says, It is the demonstration of how to murder your wife and get away with it. This story brings a lot of talk of sexual politics and the way women are sometimes looked at in society. The way some society members describe women are supposed to honor the man and never have any power over the man, in The Birthmark it is clear that Alymer looks at Georgiana as a women that is his own property and should be perfect in every aspect according to him. The gender portion comes into play when the question is asked, what if it was a man obsession with another man to be perfect or a woman obsession for a man to be perfect? In The Birthmark Alymer did not wish for Aminadab his servant to be perfect. It is all about gender ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Essay on Ethanol Energy Since the invention of the internal combustion engine, car makers and consumers have been filling the gas tank with just that, gasoline. Starting out with leaded gasoline then slowly switching to unleaded gas in the late 1960s until catalytic converters, a new auto part which can only run on unleaded, were made mandatory in 1975. However over the past couple decades there have been a new contender in the fuel marketplace to power consumers cars. Ethanol is defined in World Book Student as a type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages and used as an automobile fuel (Sheehan 1). Sometimes called ethyl alcohol or grain alcohol, has been an additive to gasoline since its introduction. The purpose was to reduce dependence on foreign oil, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There has been a steady increase in the price of gasoline since the end of 2008 when there was a major push for ethanol gasoline blends; which are categorized as E10 (10% ethanol, 90% gasoline) and blends all the way up to E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline). E85 is the highest amount of ethanol allow for sale in retail, but, in Brazil E100 (100% ethanol) is everywhere. It is not even possible to buy regular gasoline in Brazil anymore. The reason the price stays up is because it costs extra to manufacture ethanol and put it in as an additive. The process of harvesting the corn, (which is the most popular crop in the United States for ethanol) then paying for all of the machinery/workers tends to get expensive. The simple process to make gasoline starts with: digging for oil at oil fields, then either shipping the barrels from other countries or from our oil fields to refineries. The oil is then refined into gasoline, the different companies then pay to rent pipelines to ship the fuel to terminals. The closest terminal to Rexburg is in Pocatello; it is then put onto different trucks and sent to different gas stations within the area of that terminal. Ethanol is a solvent, which means that it will eat through rubber, plastic, fiberglass, and certain types of metals; so it cannot be shipped with the gasoline through the pipelines to the terminals. If it was shipped with the fuel in the lines the cleaning properties of the Ethanol would pick up any water, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The stars that form this asterism (Dubhe, Merak, Phecda, Megrez, Alioth, Mizar, and Alkaid) are the brightest part of the constellation they make whole, Ursa Major: The Great Bear. Although the constellation is certainly common enough to recognize, I hold a more personal attachment to it. I grew up nearby a convent which owned a crest marked with Ursa Major. The convent was a central root of the area, so the people often had the crest and familiar Ursa Major constellation everywhere. Source Anonymous Research Paper Sit tight for the journey ahead as I explain to you, on my coffee induced, sleep deprived binge writing, the ethics of source anonymity in journalism for the purpose of this paper, I will be writing about Canada specifically. More specifically, I will touch upon the following: What is the reliability of the source? Why would a source have to be kept anonymous? To what extent does a journalist keep a source confidential? Firstly, I will go on to briefly describe the Canadian Act that protects whistle blowers (the term used to describe someone who brings an issue to light, almost always in their organization) and the shield law. Next, I will be discussing the ethics in keeping a source anonymous from the utilitarian point of view, as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stated in the CAJ Ethics Guidelines, under Promises to Sources, it is important to discuss with a source wanting to be kept anonymous whether or not you, as a journalist, are willing to go to jail for keeping them anonymous when ordered by a court. It is important to discuss with your source that, if they mislead or lie to you about anything they say, the promise of keeping their anonymity is off. There have been many cases of journalists going to jail for keeping a source anonymous, even in the face of the law. If this doesn t show principle, then I don t know what does. There is also the aspect of acting from duty: a journalist has the duty of reporting to the public in order for them to know the truth about what s happening in the world. The right thing to do is to keep the source anonymous if it means that an important story or high classified information will be out for the public to know it is their right to know. In this perspective, a journalist does not look at their personal consequences possible incarceration but on the nature of their action to liberate the truth. They have the good intention, which makes it deontological. If we take a look at the first form of the categorical imperatives, it follows this as well because of the way they act: keeping a promise they made. A journalist also has true freedom because they have the autonomy to put themselves in a position of being in a bad situation with the law, using their rationality to weigh the options of leaking a good story or the possibility of suffering consequences for ... An outsider is someone who is different or doesn t fit in in a certain way, which is why Hinton never emphasizes who the outsiders are; readers can interpret this book and the outsiders in their own way because Hinton proves that everyone is an outsider in their own manner. While it can be argued that every character is an outsider, the main outsiders in this book are Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade, and Cherry Valance. On the one hand, they reinforce trade rules and promote respect for them. On the other hand, they tend to undermine the principles of free trade and provoke a kind of trade envy (Charnovitz) in other international organizations. Trade retaliation goes back quite a ways; we see examples of it in much of US law: Antidumping Act of 1916, which has seen little use.(Charnovitz) International Labor Organization, from the Treaty of Versailles 1919, which served as an international dispute system, but no economic measures were ever recommended until 2000, against Burma. A second advantage to sanctions can be seen through foreign pressure to promote internal change, assuming that the sanctioned government wants to comply with the rules, but can t because of domestic politics.(Charnovitz) We can see in many cases that sanctions are being imposed primarily for signaling purposes either for the benefit of allies, other third parties, or once again, their own citizens. • 13. Negative Effects Of Violent Video Games September 10, 2017 Writing Assignment #1 Blair Baugher Introduction The issue of whether or not violent video games encourage children, and teens to be violent is a heavily debated issue. There are many people who believe that violent video games DO cause violence in children, and teens, while there are also many people who believe that violent video games DO NOT cause violence in children, and teens. The relevance of this topic ties into psychology by further examining how people learn, and the techniques that are prevalent in how they do so. By stating that violent behavior can arise simply from playing a violent video game, one is relying on the notion that people will always act in a matter that is reflective of what they are surrounded by. Summary Through significant research, there is evidence that violence has risen in America. Some argue that this is because children and teens are spending more, and more time playing violent video games. Though there is ample evidence to prove that playing violent video games can have negative effects on someone, there is no evidence to directly show that the correlation between the two rising numbers is related. In the reading, Steven F. Gruel, who argued before the supreme court, believes that playing, and or watching violent video games, causes children to act violently. The cause, Gruel believes, isn t directly the video games, but the effect they leave on the children. Children are spending more of their time playing video ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now, how exactly are they supposed to remember all of their 120 students personal lives? Contrary to that belief, most students believe that teachers should account for their extracurricular activities and personal lives. But, not only is that not possible, it is not plausible. Obviously, for students, keeping up with their work and personal lives is a hard task to manage, but developing their time management skills is something each student will need to learn to do as they continue their studies in college. Teachers should not have to plan their curriculum around student responsibilities due to the numerous types of jobs and extracurricular activities students take part in. According to Dunbar s Number, we as people can only remember at most 150 names, of course, that number is the maximum. On average, according to 21 percent of the faculty members of West Warwick Public Schools, the average numbers of students per class would be 120 to 125 students per year. Therefore, it makes sense teachers would struggle at remembering even 125 names, let alone their complex personal lives. The book s authors offer theories ranging from historical context, how Japan s role in the war was interpreted, the American people s discomfort regarding Truman s order to drop the bomb, the mood of Americans during Vietnam, and the American lives spared as a result of the bomb. Edward Linenthal s Anatomy of a Controversy conveys that Martin Harwit, the director of the National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution, wanted to transform the day of August 6. The anniversary of Hiroshima had previously been a day of protest and recrimination, and Harwit s goal in mind was to turn the anniversary into one of reflection. If the exhibit was perceived in the wrong way, Harwit feared it could be interpreted as celebration (Linenthal, 19). Veterans who were aboard the B 29 airplane were the first to direct their criticism over the exhibit, arguing that the exhibit would not be displayed correctly. • 28. Essay on The Patriot The Patriot, written by Robert Rodat, takes place in South Carolina and reveals a widowed father s love for his family and trying to keep them together, despite the Revolutionary War that had begun. Trying to keep his demons from reappearing, Benjamin Martin faces his fear of his past coming back to haunt him after serving in the French and Indian War. Martin is a South Carolina farmer who lost his wife, Elizabeth, and reluctantly signs up to join the Continental Army after his eldest son, Gabriel joined the regulars to fight against the British. After a battle began on Martin s plantation, Benjamin helped wounded soldiers from both sides and was approached by William Tavington, a colonel with the British. During this confrontation ... Between Gabriel s dedication to the cause and Benjamin Martin s military experience, the dedication of the men fighting, the cause of freedom was fought on all fronts. However, during the fights, many men were lost, including another of Benjamin Martin s sons, Gabriel. After Gabriel s death, Martin s fears were solidified and vowed not to fight for anyone s causes. However, he realized that being a true patriot was the only way to honor his son s deaths, so he fought for the cause of freedom and was truly victorious in his fights. While The Patriot was a very successful major motion picture, characters from the movie actually mirror those of characters that were indeed real. Colonel Tavington s character is based on the life of Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton the subordinate of Lt. General Charles Earl Cornwallis of the British Army. Benjamin Martin s character was based on Francis Marion (which is also now a famous hotel in historic downtown Charleston), also known as Swamp Fox fought Indians. In the movie Martin and his men destroyed the Indians, however in the reality Marion and just a few of his men survived. Valley Forge I am a soldier at Valley Forge, sacrificing myself for my suffering country so that we all can be free from Britain s control. I am in tatter d clothes and have barely enough food to survive, but I ll go through this just so my country doesn t have to suffer any more. The war started on December 1777, me along with the rest of the army camped out at Valley Forge (Roden 141). A few young women developed scarlet fever, a fascination with British soldiers and their bright red coats (Roden 141). My nine month term has ended for serving in the war and I have the option to re enlist or not to re enlist. Furthermore, after putting some thought into it, I have decided to re enlist because more people will suffer if I leave. Britain, with an army to enforce her tyranny, has declared that she has a right (not only to TAX) but to BIND us in ALL CASES WHATSOEVER, and if being bound in that manner, is not slavery, then is there not such a thing as slavery upon earth (Paine 153). I m fighting for my country s freedom, if I leave George Washington it s less likely we ll win, and Britain will have forever control over us and they will tax and makes us slaves if we do not cooperate they could even put us in jail . Congress came to help because of the bad conditions (Powell 149). Many of us have no shoes and tatter d clothes if I leave more people will have these conditions even with congress help. This experience did not only trigger my career goal but made me who I am. After my first experience I loved looking at people smile and going to the dentist every month. I was bullied at the age of six for this very reason. As I grew older I developed three missions in life. One, to finish school and earn my high school degree, two to start college , and three to earn my degree and start working as a dentist. Soon these missions became goals. After I finished high school I set new missions: one to start college, two to earn my Bachelor s degree and my doctoral degree and three to get a good score on my Dental Acceptance test. After I finished high school, I started to search for community college with dental classes. That s when I heard of Tarrant County College (TCC) .I immediately ran to the school and applied as soon as possible. After a month or so I got a letter allowing me to start college, as I read the words hope raised up in my body. I asked my older sister Iftah, to help me get strategies for college because I was new to the idea. During August, me and my sister Iftah created a strategy list. Already he has tried to fit in by being something he is not. It is evident through his speech versus his thoughts. Short term events could consist of him changing who he is to fit into the current way of life he has walked into. Long term events could consist of the adventure he has with the new people he has met. He begins to fall for a taken girl amongst it all, but never voices his feelings for her. In the future the most important events could involve the girl and the lessons he learns along the way based on what is right compared to what is wrong. Puzzles Some questions I have been asking myself along the way have been, What is the Great Perhaps of the characters in the story? , all of the important events take place on Culver Creek Campus, why is this? . Another thing I have been thinking of is that John Green keeps the entire novel in the main character, Miles point of view. Why is this? Why have no other characters been given the ability to share their perspective on the important events happening as the story progresses? Filling the Gaps Everything Miles is going to go through in this book is for a reason. This book is very similar to real life in a sense that Miles is a typical teenager and wants ... Approximately 60 species of freshwater snails are presumed extinct, 20 are on the federal endangered or threatened species list, and another 290 species are of conservation concern nationwide. The decline of freshwater snails began in the early twentieth century. Dam construction and other channel modifications, siltation, and industrial and agricultural pollution have all degraded the river habitats on which most species depend. As a result, the species richness and the abundance of freshwater snails have declined dramatically. This decline has been especially pronounced in the Southeastern United States where these animals are most diverse. • 37. Chemiluminescence Lab In this experiment, luminol, a compound that produces chemiluminescence when oxidized in the presence of a base by an oxidizing agent like hydrogen peroxide, was synthesized, and its presence was confirmed by observing chemiluminescence. Cheminluminescence is the process by which a photon is released when a reaction occurs, producing light. A similar process, bioluminescence is observed in nature when fireflies and jellyfish produce light. Chemiluminescence is identical to bioluminescence, except for the fact that bioluminescence involves an enzyme, whereas chemiluminescence uses a chemical catalyst. Two types of light emission are fluorescence and phosphorescence. In its stable condition, an electron exists in a ground singlet state. During a reaction, it may absorb energy and become elevated to an excited state. In most situations, the electron returns to the ground singlet state by passing through a number of vibrational states and releasing energy, which is not perceived by the human eye. However, sometimes an electron may release energy all at once in one packet to go from its excited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 38. Foreshadowing in William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily Essay Foreshadowing in William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily William Faulkner paints a tragic tale about the inevitability of change and the futility of attempting to stop it in A Rose for Emily . This story is about a lonely upper class woman struggling with life and traditions in the Old South. Besides effective uses of literary techniques, such as symbolism and a first plural person narrative style, Faulkner succeeds in creating a suspenseful and mysterious story by the use of foreshadowing, which gives a powerful description about death and the tragic struggle of the main character, Miss Emily. In general the use of foreshadowing often relates to events in a story, and few are attempted to describe character. Faulkner has effectively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The smell that upsets the community is the next foreshadowing of the death of Homer. The smell comes a short time after her sweetheart...had deserted her (509). The manner of Homer s death is implied in the conversation between Miss Emily and the pharmacist as she is buying arsenic, a poison used to kill rats, as well as the picture of skull and bones , which is exactly what the town people find left of Homer (511). The use of foreshadowing to describe the changes in Emily physical and emotional life is subtler and relies heavily on symbolism. The descriptions of the decaying house symbolize Miss Emily s physical and emotional decay, and as well as her mental problems. It foretells of her downfall, a fallen monument (507). The house is full of dust and dark shadows, It smelled of dust and disuse a close, dank smell , and symbolizes the death filled environment that Emily lives in (508). To describe Emily s life, Faulkner effectively uses foreshadowing in conjunction with structure in the chronology of events. He opens the story with her death, goes backward in time when she is old, goes backward again to the foreshadowed death of Homer, and then backward again to her romance with Homer and finally to her death. Many large U.S. corporations cultivates outsourcing faster than we can imagine. The trend that began in the late 1970 and picked up speed in the 1900s with the opening trade with China, India, and Eastern Europe ( Outsourcing: What s the true Impact ). In its broadest sense, outsourcing is simply contracting out functions that had been done in house a longtime U.S. practice ( Globalization: Threat or Opportunity ). Subsequently, outsourcing is an essential part of globalization; and it is the combination of markets through the cooperation of internalization, federal, and state governments with corporate companies to produce products on a reduce production cost, and offer services on lower labor cost. When a U.S. manufacture product, and buys material from an intermediate supplier from out of the country rather than producing them in house, that is what is called outsourcing. Also, when U.S. corporation hires outside contractor out of the country to do U.S. call center services for less labor cost that is outsourcing. When a company deals out its operational task, such as payroll, accounting, and software operations that is outsourcing.
