I Am Legend Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "I Am Legend" can pose a significant challenge due to the
multifaceted nature of the subject matter. Richard Matheson's novel, which has inspired various
film adaptations, delves into themes such as isolation, survival, and the human condition in a
post-apocalyptic world. Tackling this essay requires a comprehensive understanding of the source
material, as well as the ability to analyze and interpret the nuances of the narrative.
One must navigate the complexities of the protagonist's psychological journey, exploring the
impact of isolation on the human psyche and the consequences of being the last person alive.
Additionally, addressing the symbolism and allegorical elements within the story adds another
layer of intricacy to the essay.
Moreover, the essay should delve into the social commentary embedded in "I Am Legend,"
examining how the narrative reflects contemporary fears and anxieties. This necessitates research
into the historical context in which the novel was written and an understanding of how it has
resonated with different audiences over time.
Furthermore, the essay should showcase critical thinking and analytical skills by evaluating the
various adaptations of "I Am Legend" in film and their deviations from the source material. This
requires a keen eye for cinematic techniques, narrative choices, and their impact on the overall
message of the story.
In conclusion, composing an essay on "I Am Legend" demands not only a deep engagement with
the source material but also the ability to synthesize complex themes and convey them
coherently. It is a task that calls for a blend of literary analysis, cultural contextualization, and
critical thinking.

Silence And The Avoidance Of Persecution
Silence and the Avoidance of Persecution
In the film Silence, the characters of Kichijiro, Rodrigues, and Ferreira illustrate the
idea that a person s outward actions fail at conveying their inward beliefs.
Throughout the film, Kichijiro consistently claims that he is a Christian but then
denies Christ whenever serious opposition arises. However, the film uses the
discovery of Kichijiro s crucifix at the end of the film and his continuous declarations
to Father Rodrigues of, Forgive me Father for I have sinned, as a method of
suggesting that even though Kichijiro outwardly apostated many times, he still had a
strong faith on the inside. Moreover, the character of Rodrigues extends the film s
theme through the line, Even if God had been silent my whole life to this very day
everything I do, everything I ve done, speaks of Him, and through his possession of a
crucifix when his body underwent cremation. The aforementioned quote and the
possession of the crucifix illustrate that even though Rodrigues committed the act of
apostasy he never truly apostatized in his heart. Finally, when the fallen priest
Ferreira mentions to Rodrigues, Only our Lord can judge your heart, it evidences that
even though Ferreira openly apostated and helped the Japanese in their attempt at
attaining Rodrigues apostasy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, Ferreira s proclamation serves as the perfect representation of the film

Aromaticity Of Pyridine Lab Report
Aromaticity and reactions of pyridine Introduction
Pyridine is a nitrogen containing aromatic analogue of benzene. The N in pyridine is
sigma bonded to two atoms and has a lone pair, and is therefore sp2 hybridized.
This leaves one electron in an unhybridized p orbital, which contributes to the
system, making a total of 6, and therefore an aromatic molecule (5 x C H contribute
5 electrons, N contributes 1, = 6, 4N+2). The lone pair on the N is in an sp2 orbital,
which means it is directed away from the ring but in the same plane.
The lone pair of electrons are not involved in the aromatic system, and stick out away
from the molecule.
Pyridine is aromatic, and displays aromatic characteristics such as high resonance

Oil Companies And Economic Power
Oil Companies and Economic Power
Introduction
In the modern world energy has become very important since it helps drive most
industrial as well as home based activities. The process that leads to production of
the world s largest energy provider, Oil, however has continued to receive criticism.
This is so since production of Gasoline, Natural Gas, Kerosene as well as other
components present in crude oil leads to some forms of environmental pollution.
This has led to devastating climatic changes around the world which has in turn led
to loss of lives and property. In the course of transporting crude oil to refinery
stations, cases of oil spillages into oceans and other water bodies occur. The result is
water pollution as well as death of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Oil companies operate in defined regions where oil exploration and possible drilling
is done. However some companies such as Shell BP engage in international drilling
and distribution of oil products. Below are some of the most renowned oil companies
in their constituent continents: Africa: Sasol of South of South Africa and National
Petroleum Company of Congo. In Asia some of the leading oil companies include
Nobel Group and the Bahrain Oil Company. It is important to note that Asia has a
lot of oil resources and hence have extensive oil drilling activities. In Europe we
have Partex oil and Gas Company, in South America three is Bridas Corporation
based in Argentina. North America has one of the most advanced technology in the
oil industry. These companies have extended their activities around the globe in a
bid to discover more oil resources to sustain future energy requirements. Some
North America companies include Shell Oil Company and the Apache
Corporation. This paper will focus on the importance of oil companies over and
above the problems that they pose to the environment as well as the political
stability of the world. For practical examples I chose to use the state of Alaska
where oil companies have based their operations as a case study.

Gandhi s Vision for India
Gandhi s Vision for India
Near the start of the twentieth century, India pursuit for national identity concentrates
on achieving individualism from British rule. Indian nationalism put the British
Empire s grasp on India at risk. Because of the development of extensive railway
system across India to make possible the export of natural resources brought about the
conception of national unity by passing the people of the subcontinent in easy contact
to each other. Furthermore, the British knew that small party of foreigners could not
manage and regulate large country of India. Therefore, the British form elite of

Because both religion groups focus on achieving same goal of contributing to God
s will on earth as it is in heaven, they realize religious wars were suicidal, and that
neither group would forsake their religion by force weaponry; thus, the Hindus
and Muslims choose to live in peace with one another. Gandhi concluded that
Hindus and Muslims are fellow countrymen in India; thus, they will have to dwell
in harmony with each other if only for their own religious reasons. Moreover,
Gandhi talks about his strategy of nonviolent acts to get the British out of India.
Gandhi uses the method passive resistance to sway the hearts of British to stop
racial acts against the citizens of India. According to Gandhi, Passive resistance is
a method of securing rights by personal suffering. The fact that there are so many
men still alive in the world shows that it based not on the force of arms but on the
force of truth or love [qtd.in Overfield 46]. Furthermore, Gandhi concluded,
Passive resistance is an all sided sword; it can be used anyhow; it blesses him who
uses it and hi against whom it is used. Without drawing a drop of blood, it produces
far reaching results [qtd.in Overfield 46].
In closing, the purpose of Mohandas Gandhi s pamphlet, Indian Home Rule, to
motivate Indian nationalists to strive toward gaining independence from British rule.

Nationalism In The Shadow Lines, By Amitav Ghosh
The Shadow Lines is a novel written by Amitav Ghosh. In this novel he talks about
the main purpose and meaning of political freedom in modern world and the
influence of Nationalism. The Shadow Lines are the borders drawn across the
nations dividing its people and places which sometimes lead to violence. Nationalism
is an ideology, it is a sentiment that people have regarding their nation, and it is part
of a cultures and a movement that focuses on nation. It is formed of a collection of
movements that were part of the Nationalism itself. In the novel, The Shadow Lines
the author tries to give the idea of Nationalism to its readers and even raise a
question regarding the same. The emergence of Nationalism is also seen in the

identity. She still lives in her past that is all illusionary, and she still had that
feeling of nationhood embedded in her deeply. Being a furious militant nationalist
herself, she gets worried about her uncle who was abandoned and left without a
thing and was dying in a country which was not his own. This thing made it clear
that she do cares about her blood relations and even for the people whom she had a

The stage theories often concentrates on the age appropriate development tasks to
be attained at each stage, the stage theories of human development involve the
entire life span, and highlighted the potential of positive changes during very later
years of life (Erikson, 1980). The idea of adulthood possesses legal and socio
cultural meaning, the legal concept of an adult is the individual who has gotten to
the age at which they are viewed as responsible for their own actions, and for that
reason; legally responsible for them (Santrock, 2012). This is known as the age of
majority which is the age of eighteen in many cultures, while there is difference
from sixteen to twenty one years old of age (Erikson, 1980). The socio cultural
concepts of being an adult is based on what the culture normatively sights as being
the required standards for the adulthood which often influence the definitions of the
adulthood of people within that certain culture (Erikson, 1980). This may or may
not correspond with a legal definition. The views on adult development in the late
concentrate on the idea of effective aging, and is described as a low probability of
disease and disease related disability, high cognitive, physical function ability, and
active proposal with life (Erikson, 1980). The biomedical theories that hold one age

Coors Brewing Company Executive Summary

Executive Summary:
Throughout most of its history, the Coors Brewing Company (Coors) has been a
regionalized brewer within the United States, specializing in high quality beer

cold filtered brewing approach. As the company expanded its distribution to new
markets within the U.S. in attempt to gain market share, it made a strategic decision
to maintain a majority of its brewing operations at its primary production facility in
Golden, Colorado. This decision was based upon the desire to preserve its core
production strengths through close family control. However, as the company desires

Even though their shipping costs were twice the industry s, average shipping costs
would have been much more had they attempted to enter other states. Besides,
Coors made up for the inefficiency with the scale of their plant, the largest in the
nation. The location lent itself well to Coors ability to differentiate its product. For
example Coors was brewed using pure Rocky Mountain spring water. Coors had a
great opportunity to serve an underserved geographical market. Seven of 24 million
barrels sold in the region had to be imported from production facilities outside of the
region, and Coors Colorado facility was more central to the area than the three other
closest facilities in Missouri, Texas, and Wisconsin. Coors had the second lowest
production cost per barrel in the industry, in spite of their claim of the most expensive
raw material costs. Their cost advantage stemmed from the industry s highest capacity
utilization, economies of scale through the country s largest brewery, single product
focus, and the industry s fastest packaging lines. Matching their low production cost
was the lowest advertising cost relative to the industry. The mystique that had been
built up about Coors and their differentiating, all natural appeal allowed them to get
away with lower advertising costs than average for the industry. Coors differentiated
their product, both in the
Apush Dbq Imperialism
Imperialism is when one country controls another country politically, economically
and or culturally it started in the late 1800s and ended in the early 1900s. The
European motives for imperialism were economic, exploratory, ethnocentric, political,
and religious. The economic motive was when the industrial revolution companies
and governments wanted to sell and buy products and get natural resources in return.
For exploratory they were interested in new lands for scientific research. For
ethnocentric Europeans thought they were better than Africaand Asia which is racist.
Politically they wanted to control countries to have the best military and most power.
The last motive was religious and they wanted to expand Christianity to other... Show

The British became residents when taking over and the natives lost their land.
This was a negative effect for the native people because there was a lot of poverty
and the British decided to take over land that was in use already. Many people
wouldn t have anywhere to live but still ended up getting kicked out of their own
place. Some people would argue the effects of imperialism in Africa and Asia were
positive economically.
For example, in document #5 written by Lord Frederick Lugard who was the first
British governor of Nigeria. He intended this for the government saying that Africa
benefited from the introduction of manufactured goods. They built railways and

Moral Relativism and Problems Associated With this
Philosophy
Moral relativists believe that no one has the right to judge another individuals
choice, decisions, or lifestyle because however they choose to live is right for them.
In addition everyone has the right to their own moral beliefs and to impose those
beliefs on another individual is wrong. At first glance moral relativismmay appear
ideal in allowing for individual freedom. After all why shouldn t each individual be
entitled to their own idea of moral values and why should others force their beliefs
on anyone else. American philosopher and essayist, Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803
1882), tells us, what is right is only what the individual thinks is right. There is no
higher court of appeals, no higher, universal, or absolute moral... Show more content

After all their actions, they believe are right and you cannot tell them they were
wrong. In turn, we can imagine for a minute that your personal morals and values
contain, eye for eye from the Bible book of Exodus 21:24. Therefore you can
morally seek this mugger out and rightfully injure him and steal his belongings.
While carrying out your right to inflict the same damage on your attacker, their
young child is watching and feels that what you are doing is wrong. The child in turn
applies their moral values to the situation and approaches you with a gun because
they feel it is morally correct to use whatever means necessary to protect their home
and family. This chain reaction of individuals applying their moral values to situations
that arise is a continual and expanding predicament. How do you stop a chain reaction
when everyone involved is right in their own mind? According to moral relativity
every individual is the source of their own moral authority....and who has the right to
tell any other individual that he is wrong.......according to that other individual s
highest authority (his self), his behavior is right and morally just.
Beyond injuries inflicted to another person, moral relativism is even more absurd in
less obvious dilemmas. The story found on page 118 of American Vision and Values
describes a moral relativist parent who is raising her child without judgment. In

doomed for decades. Although the IUCN has listed this specie as vulnerable, they
are far becoming more endangered to the point of extinction. Their population
remains at 4% of what they were before commercial fishers began capturing them by
the thousands (The IUCN Red List, 2014). The Pacific Bluefin Tunais one of the
largest and fastest fishes in the ocean. Their are three distinctions of the Bluefin Tuna;

Overfishing is a problem because Bluefin Tuna is responsible for keeping population
numbers in check, thus creating detrimental effects if the biodiversity were to be
threaten and the ecosystem were to become imbalanced. Furthermore, the Bluefin
Tuna have fallen victim to becoming targeted and non targeted species by fisherman.
Purse seine fishing is the number one fishing method used to catch the Tuna.
However, long line fishing also poses as a threat because they are unintentionally
caught in by catches, creating an unnecessary waste. In addition, studies demonstrate
that Japan has the largest number of catches. Japan s economy has the most to loose
if they do not protect their valued specie. They have made little efforts for change
and the ISC concluded that current levels of fishing have now become unsustainable.
It has been concluded that this stock will continue to decline in 2018 (Nickson,
2018). This specie has fallen a tragedy of the commons model due to individuals
trying to gain the greatest benefit, without realizing what the long term effects would
be when the demands of the resource overwhelms the supply. This will hurt the well
being of multiple societies, and most important, the well being of the Bluefin Tuna.
The ISC stated that these species need new management plans to ensure it s
sustainability. With conservation efforts of the IATTC and WCPFC, there will be a
plan for rebuilding spawning populations, placing a
Southern Religion
As of today, religion still maintains an impact throughout the domain of the South.
Religion in the South supports infrastructure educational and social services. It also
inhibits the growth of the traditional denominations to prosper, ranging from Baptist,
Methodist, Lutheran and even Catholic. Baptist make about 50% of church affiliation
population in the south while Methodist is about a quarter and Presbyterian around
10% or so ( Wison 1).Throughout the entire range of life of many religious
denominations since they were first introduced to the South, they have been able to

However it didn t just take one night for the Bible Belt to form and have a firm grip
in the South. What attributed to the growth and expansion of denominations across
the South? According to Heyrman, due to the high influx of Scots Irish immigrants
with their movement to the frontier, they didn t forcefully Christianize the settlers
already dwelling, there, but that their large numbers changed the arrangement of the
land entirely. The early increase in Evangelical numbers was largely illusory.
Converts stemmed from marginalized groups. Free African Americans, women, and
young people came into Evangelical congregations because of the agency these
churches afforded them in comparison to the hierarchical Anglican Church. More
interestingly to the scholar, and more ominously to contemporary southerners, slaves
often found a welcome home in Evangelical churches. The Evangelical struggle to
find acceptance in southern society during the Early Republic certainly stemmed
from the movement s weird novelty and perceived strangeness. Yet southerners
seemed willing to accept almost any eccentricity. The Evangelical movement s
insistence on egalitarianism crossed the line in southern thought. Strangeness became
subversive. Heryman challenged the traditional assumption than only planters
demurred from welcoming the Evangelical movement into southern society. Women s
involvement in Church and messages tailored to the poor angered yeomen farmers as

The Conservative Party Government Era During 1951-1964
The Conservative Party Government Era during 1951 1964 is a period which has
been politically criticized throughout the years specifically that of Britain Politics.
During this time, the Conservative government was said to have pursued mainly
Keynesian economic policies which was centrally focused on reducing inflation, to
maintain growth and promote stability but despite the Conservatives attempts to
revive the Britain economy through industrialism, increase standard of living and
encouragement for consumerism there was the development of a stagnant
economy which eventually produced an increase in unemployment, inflation and
interest rates for consumer products and loans. The Labour government described
the period of 1951 64 as Thirteen Wasted Years as they felt that during this period
Britain experienced economic chaos and turmoil. This was quite the opposite
view for that of the Conservatives, particularly Macmillan who expressed in his
speech that the people had ... never had it so good and encouraged his supporters
and opponents to ... Go around the country, go to industrial towns, go to the farms

Reaction Paper On Dengue
Dengue is the one of the most dangerous diseases in the world today. With over 50
million people infected annually, the mosquito borne virus has been identified by the
World Health Organisation (WHO) as a public health emergency of international
concern. Despite the biomedical war on Dengue, the disease has proven difficult to

the human immune systemand antivirals, allowing it to evolve and survive.
Singapore, being in the South East Asia and Western Pacific region which is home

She and her team at the Genomic Institute of Singapore (GIS) has pioneered
research into applying NGS to Dengue virus, achieving a method to amplify the
Dengue virus out of human blood samples and subsequent NGS analysis, of which
leads to many applications. To understand this complex technology simply,
sequencing can be imagined as arranging big basket of nucleatides in order to
make sense of each and all of them. Dengue, which is a virus composed of 10 000
base pairs, consists in each type a single mutation each time it replicates. This arises
when the virus folds in its protein form and its error prone RNA dependent RNA
polymerase changes its nucleic base to behave differently with a host factor, thereby
making it more pathogenic. NGS is therefore particularly useful as it allows scientists
to pinpoint at which particular point there is such a nucleotide variant, which is
important epidemiological information on the highly mutagenic virus. That position
corresponds the method of translation for the virus, which is critical to the life cycle
of the virus and how it responds to selective pressure in the environment to change.
By looking at base changes, NGS ultimately enables scientists to track what the virus
wants to do. This is essential information then allows scientists start at developing

Capitalism And Freedom Milton Friedman Summary
In Capitalism and Freedom, Milton Friedman claims that a capitalist economy means
economic freedom. But capitalism can create monopolies, which own commodities
exclusively. A capitalist economic system requires a free market and the absence of
government intervention in order to function. We can argue that a capitalist
economic system does not necessarily mean individual or economic freedom.
Instead, it promotes corruption and inequality. According to Friedman, Economic
freedom is also an indispensable means toward the achievement of political freedom,
(Friedman 1). He says that in order to have political freedom, we need to have
economic freedom. In a capitalist economy people thinks that they are free to sell a
commodity, but they are
The Psychological Effects Of Mental Depression
From the the psychological assessment, the defendant suffers from a mood
disorder, specifically, Bipolar 2. Howard has experienced a hypomanic episode
lasting for more than four days and a longer term depressive episode. This
defendant did not have psychosis, which is a loss of contact with reality. The
reason Howard did not have psychosis is because he was in touch with reality, he
was just easily distracted but he was not in a different world . People had a hard
time following him because he was just changing topics, but not because he was
lost in another world. Furthermore, it is not Bipolar 2 because he does not have a
manic episode. This is why Howard is diagnosed with Bipolar 2.
The depressive episodes specifically during the period of the defendant spending
large amounts of time and money at the strip clubs. As stated in the case facts, the
dancers reminded Howard of Stacy and in a result made him feel alone, sad, and
empty. These are all symptoms of a depressive episode in Bipolar 2. After spending
all his life savings on lap dances, Howard then began to feel worthless and was
beginning to have thoughts about suicide. A depressive episode when diagnosed with
Bipolar 2 is very similar to a regular depressive episode. This symptom were part of
the depressive episode, which lasted for a few weeks. This resulted in loss of weight
and a change in Howards behavior that affected his way of life. Howard was simply
depressed because of Stacy s romantic rejection. Along

This story begins in a foreign location, introduces a mysterious guest, and describes

for further development of this theme. He does note that the remainder of his story
would have explained how the children of the king could have found the loves of
their lives.
As it remains a truncated story, what does the Squire tell about love? He notes that
despite our feelings of love, they may not be shared by our partner, as the female
falcon learns. It is a powerful feeling and can lead to deep emotional pain. Canace
shows that this pain does heal, and we are then able to go forth and experience it
again. It is a feeling that should be cherished and nurtured, despite there being no

used to show weakness and that s exactly what it did in the movie and it was
perfect. It really gave a strong feel of victory in the end. The eye level angles are
the angles mostly used in the movie (90 95%). These angles give you the
expressions of the characters. The animators did extraordinary work on these angles.
These angles really make the movie (IMDB).
The framing and shots of a movie really give us a sense of what is in and what is
out. It gives the viewer an idea of the setting, time, and or relationship of characters.
There are a few long shots in the movie. These shots are often used in the beginning
or end of the movie. In the Lion King these shots really help with letting the viewer
know that the movie is over and that Simba won. Close up shots are the most used
shots in a movie. These shots show emotion and popular aspects of a character. In
The Lion King these shots are great. They do what they are supposed to. The
emotion given by these shots is fantastic, and really connects with the audience. The
Pan shots are really good given the fact that the movie is animated. These shots occur
when the camera is moving from left to right giving a good view of the surrounding
area.

Stephen Mays writes an article, What about Gender Roles in Same Sex
Relationships? Mays explains how he overheard a conversation between two
friends. The friends are gossiping about two gay guys that are walking ahead of
them on the sidewalk. One of them ask Who do you think is the girl in the
relationship? Mays said I couldn t help but to frown at the girl and shake my head
(718). He did not agree with this question, he believes they are both men. I believe
the two girls ask a question that most people want to know when they see two gay
men.I recently was on a traveling page and a group of guys took a picture together.
A lot of people were commenting on this post. Most of the comments were asking

Some men goes both ways and sleep with women and men. This is why I believe it
is important to know who is the female in the relationship. For some reason some
people believe the person who is taking it is more gay then the person giving it.I
have no idea why this is, other than personal preference. So many men wear skinny
jeans you can t tell who is who anyways. When it comes to gender norms in this day
and age, the lines become so blurred. When asking the question, is gender based on
biological, social implications, or a combination of both. I believe a combination
of both. As children we are told that girls should act a certain way and boys act
another way. Boy s are taught not to cry and girls should play with doll babies. As
we grow up we try to fit in what s expected of us. A couple of years back, I believe
it was a trend to be gay. Girls was walking around talking like dudes. I would see
them at the mall holding hands and kissing. A guy dressed as a girl for prom won
homecoming queen.I use to sit on my porch and watch them walk home from
school and remember thinking to myself who is who. Guys would sound just like a
female. Some of them had weaves in their hair. I believe sometimes teenagers have a
lot of peer pressure to fit in. They are trying to find their own
Character Analysis Of Ready Player One By Ernest Cline
In the book Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, the main character, Wade, changes
throughout the book. This is due to the experiences with trying to get the answer to
the puzzles with some of these being his living quarters and then getting thrown into
jail.
In the beginning of the book, Wade is a more selfish type of person and he has to
fend for himself due to his background and home life. At the start, he came from a
poor family so he had to be resourceful. He showed us that he ...was curled up in an
old sleeping bag in the corner of the trailer s tiny laundry room, wedged into the
gap between the wall and the dryer (Cline 13). The main character, Wade, was
forced to sleep in the laundry room due to how overcrowdedness of the stack he
was in. Even though he had a large amount of his family living in the same small
apartment with him, he was still able to make room for himself. He made a small
spot for himself to be comfortable in. This sets up how many people are in that
small area and adds to the loss that will come later in the story and that will play a
part in changing him. He also was a very determined person. He was sometimes
obsessive with the ways he studied the life of Halliday. He states that For the past
five years, I d devoted all my free time to learning as much as I possibly could
about James Halliday (Cline 52). Wade was obsessed with the hunt and spent a large
part of a long while studying everything that the creator of the OASIS had loved in
his life.
Usefulness and Reliability of Information Provided By...
An ongoing concern in financial reporting is the usefulness and reliability of
information provided by corporations. The financial accounting standard board
defines usefulness as the information that is useful for the users in decision making
(FASB, 2011). Reliability is inferred when the information is verified, objective, and
can be relied on. Therefore, Statement of Financial Accounting Standards No. 157
standardizes the valuationand disclosure of fair valuefor assets and liabilities in order
to achieve both usefulness and reliability. The reasoning for the hierarchy was due to
the inconsistency in previous definitions and guidance (FASB, 1992).
Introduction to Fair Value Hierarchy
To begin, SFAS defines fair value as the value... Show more content on

SFAS Relating to the Conceptual Framework
The framework for measuring fair value is easy to understand and follow, and
relates to the conceptual framework. As stated earlier the preferred measure of fair
value is the market approach, because the prices are observable. For this reason the
standard recognizes the need for relevant, reliable, and comparable information in
order for users to make better decisions about the current financial position of a
company. Financial readers are aware of the valuing measurement used to calculate
the fair value, whether the measurement were derived from an observable or
unobservable input. The measurement establishes the existence of reliable and
relevance qualitative factors that make accounting information useful for decision
making (Barbera, 2007). If it were observable then the value derived can be
researched and verified. However, if it were unobservable then the user must read the
disclosures which will be discussed later in the research paper, and determine the
reliability of the internally generated measurement. In return it can be understood that
the level 1 inputs are more reliable and relevant than the other two levels.
In addition, the fair value hierarchy also enhances the comparability and consistency
of information among companies due to following practices: all companies must
The Properties of Chemical Reactions
Properties of Chemical Reactions
Ms. Whitty, Science 10
Fiona Adams, November 1st, 2012
Introduction
Chemical reactions are a part of our daily lives, from rusting metal to making bread
to leaves changing colour in the fall. A chemical reaction is the process that occurs
when two or more substances combine to produce a chemical change. When a
chemical reaction takes place, the change is indicated by one or more qualitative
properties. The colour or odor could change, gas could be produced, a precipitate a
solid substance in a solution could be formed, or energy could be absorbed or
released. The substances initially involved in a chemical reaction are called reactants.
When chemical reactions occur, the end result is called a ... Show more content on

The acetic acid was clear, colorless and in a liquid state. The sodium bicarbonate,
however, was a white powder, in a solid state. The reaction caused the new substance
to bubble and foam, producing a gas.
(Table 4) Quantitative Observations from Part 2 Mass of Sodium Bicarbonate (g)|
1.01| Mass of Acetic Acid (g)| 14.29| Mass of Products (g)| 14.88|
Analysis
Part 1:
The chemical reaction that took place was evidenced by several qualitative
observations. The colour of the two original substances was clear, and when
combined the colour changed to yellow a change of colour is clear evidence of a
chemical reaction. The word equation for this reaction would be potassium iodide +
lead (II) nitrate Potassium nitrate and lead (II) iodide. In the form of a balanced
equation, this reaction would be 2KI + Pb(NO3)2 2KNO3 + PbI2.
Weighing both the reactants and the product showed that the mass of the reactants,
with the apparatus, was 140.26 grams. The mass of the product, with the
apparatus, was also 140.26 grams the product of this reaction had the same mass as
the reactants. These results were expected, based on the Law of Conservation of
Mass. The Law of Conservation of Mass is neither created nor destroyed in a
chemical reaction. The application of the Law of Conservation of Mass means that
the mass of products in a chemical reaction will equal the mass of the
The Vaccination
It begins as minor flu symptoms. But then things seem to never get any better. As
symptoms become more severe, a person is advised to go see a doctor. It turns out the
individual did not have the flu. It was something far worse, something more
treacherous, something more contagious, something chilling, something life
threatening. This disease is known as bacterial meningitis. It is possibly a college
students worst nightmare, and a disease that students should be well informed about.
But while the bacterial infection is rather rare, it s also terminal, killing 10 to 12
percent of those it infects, sometimes within hours. The disease attacks and closes up
major organs and prevents blood from circulating to limbs, causing tissue to die....

Why not also ensure they are paying for a safe environment by imposing this
proposal. No university would want their public safety to be questionable when
students are making the tough decision on whether or not to attend. Though the
disease has no general region to be transmitted, next year a school such as A M may
be passed up by students due to the incident with Williams. An opposer to this view
may complain that the Meningococcal vaccination does not protect students from all
strains of meningitis, but this is the case with every vaccination. The vaccination is
created to protect society from the most common strain of the disease, and the overall
rarity of these diseases only calls for the single vaccination of this strain.
Another importance of this proposal is personal safety. As nature proves, only the
strong survive. Meaning, one must put themselves first as far as safety when
matters such as this arise. When the subject of meningitis is brought up to most
college students, by the end of the conversation the person fears the disease as
though it were serial killer on the loose. This is not necessary, as it is made so easy
now a days to go and receive vaccination. Another possible complaint made by
opposers, is that a person may be allergic to chemicals within the vaccination, so why
put themselves at risk? On average it is quite uncommon for someone to have an
allergic reaction to the vaccination. If someone did have a reaction the symptoms
For the Period Before 1750, Analyze the Ways in Which...
Topic: For the period before 1750, analyze the ways in which Britain s policy of
Salutary Neglect influenced the development of American society as illustrated in the
following: Legislative assemblies, commerce, religion. Before 1750, the
undocumented British policy of salutary neglect greatly impacted the methods
through which American colonists regulated their daily lives. Through mercantilist
thought processes, Britain created the colonies merely for gain of the mother terrain
itself. Therefore, it did not give them any specific attention and allowed them to
simply rule itself by personal means and this idea makes up salutary neglect. The
colonies used their own assemblies, such as the House of Burgesses, to govern

Primarily colonial leadership could make this decision, because the gist of the
situation comprised of keeping the slaves from taking advantage of the fact that
England allowed freedom under certain circumstances. Economically, the Crown
did not provide as much assistance as needed to the colonists of the New World.
Trade involved mainly countries other than England, because this way profits
were maximized. England, once again, created its colonies for mercantilist
reasons: profits and only profits. In reaction to these trade schemes, the Navigation
Acts were enforced. Smuggling then grew extremely popular mainly because of
price differences and simple convenience. Agriculturally, the main crops were
indigo, sugarcane, tobacco, cotton, and rice. Due to high demand, several workers
were needed. Through the Triangular trade, raw materials went to England and the
Northern Colonies, slaves came to the plantation dominated areas of the colonies,
and manufactured goods went to the West Indies. Molasses was turned into rum in
New England and traded for more slaves as well. Religious freedom was one of the
main causes for English peoples to move to the New World. They escaped from the
de catholicization of the Church of England in order to believe in what they wanted
to belive in. The government once again did not pay any heed to set an official
religious set of rules in the colonies, therefore allowing the people to
Beloved Husband Vs Beloved Husband
For item number 7, as I searched for picture of gravestones online, I noticed that it
s more common for gravestones to have Beloved wife of... , rather than Beloved
husband of... . I think that is phrase goes back to the idea of traditional marriage
and the roles females took in the relationship. For a very long time, females were
described as in being in the shadows of the husbandor being dependent on them. I
think that Beloved wifeof... demonstrates that that person did have a husband, and
someone to care for. Even after death, it demonstrates her loyalty to her partner. For
males, I actually noticed that some commonly said, Beloved husband, and father ,
and not necessarily address a wife s name. The last few times that I have visited

Essay about Malcolm X
Malcolm s life is a Horatio Alger story with a twist. His is not a rags to riches tale,
but a powerful narrative of self transformation from petty hustler to internationally
known political leader. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Louise and Earl Little,
who was a Baptist preacher active in Marcus Garvey s Universal Negro Improvement
Association, Malcolm, along with his siblings, experienced dramatic confrontations
with racism from childhood. Hooded Klansmen burned their home in Lansing,
Michigan; Earl Little was killed under mysterious circumstances; welfare agencies

institution; and Malcolm was forced to live in a detention home run by... Show more

On other issues, however, Malcolm showed signs of independence from the NOI
line. During the mid 1950s, for example, he privately scoffed at Muhammad s
interpretation of the genesis of the white race and seemed uncomfortable with the
idea that all white people were literally devils. He was always careful to preface his
remarks with The honorable Elijah Muhammad teaches. . . . More significantly,
Malcolm clearly disagreed with the NOI s policy of not participating in politics.
He not only believed that political mobilization was indispensable but occasionally
defied the rule by supporting boycotts and other forms of protest. In 1962, before
he split with the NOI, Malcolm shared the podium with black, white, and Puerto
Rican labor organizers in the left wing, multiracial hospital workers union in New
York. He also began developing an independent Pan Africanist and, in some respects,
Third World political perspective during the 1950s, when anticolonial wars and
decolonization (see Decolonization in Africa: An Interpretation) were pressing
public issues. As early as 1954 Malcolm gave a speech comparing the situation in
Vietnam (see Vietnam War) with that of the Mau Mau Rebellion in colonial Kenya,
framing both of these movements as uprisings of the darker races creating a tidal
wave against U.S. and

Ten Key Lessons From The Famous Book Rich Dad Poor Dad.
Lesson one; those who are rich don t work for money
Robert Kiyosaki, the author explains that there is a very big difference between
those who work for money and those who let money work for them. He explains
that the poor and the middle class work for money in order to satisfy their needs.
This needs include, paying debts, buying food, paying rent, paying allowances. This
people work for money because they have the fear of not having money to pay debts
and these allowances. On the other hand the rich don t work for money. They let
money work for them. This is because the rich have income generating assets that
bring income. So they let money work for them.
Lesson two; it s advisable to mind your own business
The author explains that minding your own business means that you are your own
boss. One is minding his personal business. He explains that one might be a banker
but not own the bank. So he is literally making the owner of the banker rich. He
further explains that one should let his asset generating column big rather than the
income column. Minding your own business help one focus more on your asset
generating column and thus one expands his/ her business. One should focus on
businesses that don t require ones presence. Some of the businesses include; buying
stocks, bonds, royalties.
Lesson three; taxes and the advantages of corporations
The author explains that the rich are not taxed. Those who are mainly taxes

New adaptions were soon picked up after Natives taught groups the method of
Guerilla Warfare , which was a tactic of coming out of trees and any other
surroundings. This method was really first introduced in the French and Indian war,
when the natives taught it to the French and British, which ever group they
decided to fight with. From there, guerilla warfare was used more often by groups
in war. Spurred by the dramatic advances in information technology, the U.S.
military has adopted a new style of warfare that eschews the bloody slogging
matches of old (foreignaffairs.com). In addition to all the new ways of physical
attacks, a new way of attacking has been spurred onto the world over the internet.
Attacks over the internet known as Cyber attacks are becoming more and more
common and are a scary thing to think about. Hackers can access our personal files
and all of our money and cause national bankruptcy. Likewise, advancements in
weaponry have drastically changed warfare today. In times such as the War of
1812, the main weapon was the musket which was a long rifle which took very
long to reload. The musket had a knife at the end of the barrel for a scenario such as
an enemy charging from the front, then while the soldier is reloading another enemy
would charge from behind. From there, the soldier would attack with the knife at the
end of the barrel. Also, many carried axes for close combat with an enemy
All The World s A Stage And All Men And Women
Shakespeare had said All the world s a stage and all men and women
are merely players. Or rather, Jaques from As You Like It did, but that s
besides the point. The point is that I was watching the Lego Movie. And oh
my god is it the best movie ever. What makes it the best movie ever? Not
only does it have a great message, it also actually inspired me to write this
blog post. The movie, starts out to be your regular run of the mill animated
comedy, and moves on to create a connection between the real human world
and the Lego universe. What the cute little kid Finn imagines with his toys,
translates into the actual movie we are watching, and the characters are
living. A movie within a movie Movie ception! Which led me to thinking,
maybe this bubble called life is nothing more than...a movie.
A movie that we act in, direct, produce, write, create an original soundtrack
of, so on...and finally view and review. So perhaps the point really was
what Shakespeare had said. For him, life was a seven act play. And so it
shall be for all you theatre lovers out there (I also speak to my own drama geek self).
And for my blog post point of view and that of every single
movie buff out there, life shall be a movie. Shakespeare said it, and now it s
my turn.
What is reality? How do we know that what we live in is real ? Life
sometimes seems nothing more than just a dream. I have had many

The company plans to launch stand alone men s stores by 2016 and expand their
business globally. That same day, the company announced plans to quit the

justifiable(Nichols, 2016). The one remark that sent the media in a frenzy was in
response to the public criticism of the sheer yoga pants, Wilson explained, Quite

that was felt throughout many media platforms(Nichols, 2016). With this media

Brokeback Mountain Analysis
Brokeback Mountain by Annie Proulx is a heart wrenching short story written
with an intimate style that evokes clear imagery in the mind of the reader.
Although, only 28 pages in length the short story offered Larry McMurtry and
Diana Ossana source material that had potential to be expanded and to build upon
the already created Midwestern reality. One of the elements altered for the
screenplay from the short story is the perspective; which follows the main
character, Ennis Del Mar over the course of twenty years. Although, not told
through Ennis eyes exactly, the reader is given access to his emotional state;
meaning his thoughts and feelings are explained more so than any other character.
For example: He had no serious hard feelings, just a vague sense of getting
shortchanged, and showed it was all right by taking Thanksgiving dinner with Alma
and her grocer and the kids, sitting between his girls and talking horses to them, ,
telling jokes, trying not to be a sad daddy. (pg. 16) The screenplay shares a similar
perspective, but expands the view to include Jack Twist, moving between the lives of
both men throughout the years. However, the screenplay stays true to the source
material by paying more attention to the original main character, Ennis. Another
element that is changed from the short story to the screenplay is the expansion or
flushing out of characters. In Proulx s story, characters other than Ennis and Jack are
mostly referred to, or given glimpses of.

The software is free, and it connects you with millions of users who share their
songs, and you virtually can find virtually any song you want . Recently I had my
grandmother s birthday, so I figured out that the perfect gift was to give her a mix
CD full of oldies; she couldn t believe how I was able to record them on disc.
The second step is to download the music from Winmix or extract it from a CD; so
you can start building a collection of music. My father, for example, got tired of
loosing and scratching his CDs, so by extracting the music into his computer, he now
has over a thousand
songs stored in his PC. I m a music lover; I enjoy all types of music, from Trance to
Classical, and I can not afford to buy all the CDs I want. The internet and Winmix
give me the opportunity to download only the songs that I like; so I save tons of
money and I discover new artists. Another advantage of this method is that it opens
doors for new artists, because masses have instant access to their music. Critics
believe that this is stealing from them, but on the other hand, the internet may
catapult their careers to new levels. I m not going to spend twenty dollars on a one
hit wonder album. But, from my favorite bands like U2 or Dave Mathews Band, I
gladly spend my money.
After you have created a nice collection of your favorite tunes, you are ready to make

Soldiers and PTSD Essay
Personalization Project
Military Pathway (2013) concluded Military life, especially the stress of deployments
or mobilizations, can present challenges to service members and their families that
are both unique and difficult . Hence, it is not surprising that soldiers returning from
a stressful war environment often suffer from a psychological condition called Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder. This paper provides a historical perspective of PTSD
affecting soldiers, and how this illness has often been ignored. In addition, the this
paper examines the cause and diagnosis of the illness, the changes of functional
strengths and limitations, the overall effects this disease may have on soldiers and
their families, with a conclusion of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Previous Ignorance and Response to Disease In the past, veterans who disclosed
suffering from signs of PTSD encountered a great deal of ignorance and bias.
According to the U.S. Department of Health Human Services (n.d.), veterans who
had the illness were often considered weak, were rejected by comrades, and even
faced discharge from military service. In fact, even physicians and mental health
specialists often questioned the existence of the disease, which of course led to
society s misconception of PTSD in general. Sadly because of this existing
prejudice it appears even today soldiers are still worried to admit having PTSD
symptoms, and therefore they do not receive the proper support they need. While
individuals are assured that their careers will not be affected, and seeking help is
encouraged, most soldiers see it as a failure to admit having a mental health illness
(Zoroya, 2013). Educating military personal of this illness, and making sure no blame
is put on the veterans who encounter this disease is therefore vital.
Cause and Diagnosis of PTSD
PTSD is usually caused by severe stress and anxiety. Military.com Benefits (n.d.)
concluded that Post traumatic Stress Disorder can occur following a life threatening
event like military combat, natural disasters, terrorist incidents, serious accidents, or
violent personal assaults like rape . Hence, being send into a war zone would create
such conditions.
Essay on The Death Penalty
Capital Punishment
The Death Penalty
In the United States many crimes are committed every day, people killing another
person, raping innocent children. I strongly believe that people who committed a
crime should be punished and punished harshly and those who commit harm to
another person should die. The Capital Punishment is a controversial topic that affects
society as a whole and causes a great deal of disagreement. Capital punishment is the
government legally kills an individual as punishment for a serious crime. It is not
intended to inflict any physical pain or any torture; it is only another form of
punishment. Addressing the follow questions:

state with the second highest number of death row inmates in the nation. The crimes
that are punishable by death in Florida are first degree murder, felony murder, capital
drug trafficking, and capital sexual battery. Currently, the methods of execution
practiced are lethal injection and the electric chair. In lethal injection, there is a three
drug combination which consists of Sodium Pentothal (an anesthetic), Pancuronium
Bromide (a paralytic agent), and Potassium Chloride (stops the heart and causes
death). In electrocution, the inmate is strapped down to a chair while various cycles
of electrical currents differing in voltage and duration (500 2000 volts and up to 30
seconds) pass through the body damaging the internal organs and causing death.

Essay about The Beef with TV
Television: Our Nations Drug of Choice
Television is our era s escape from what we now consider a chaotic struggle of life.
I think we as a people feel life can be solved in an hour long Monday night special
and that exact attitude is our society s problem today. Frankly we are a group of
cowards who do not take the bull by the horns; rather we retreat to routine episode
line up that we can supposedly relate to. Ladies and gentlemen we need to break

TV gazing can be detrimental to the human body. The body burns calories to a large
extent slower because of the immobility of watching the tube. Body metabolism and
calorie burning is an average of 14.5 percent lesser when watching TV than when
basically lying down in bed. A good question to ask as well is, mentally what does
the television shows do to our children s ability to function in the world? Kids,
mainly girls, are a more likely than grown ups to be portrayed as sufferers of
brutality on the box, and this can make them more terrified of the world they live in,
rendering them incapable of normal functions, such as commuting to work, walking
in parks, etc. etc. Some of the most violent TV shows are children s cartoons
(Dragon Ball Z, Batman, Looney Tunes), in which violent behavior is seen as cool
and at time entertaining and the real outcome of bloodshed are not really revealed,
leaving today s youth to make their own ending to the coyote s unfortunate plummet

Whatever happened to the inevitable but informative Birds and the Bees speech from
our parents? Youngsters nowadays are surrounded with sex symbols, sexual

Blood Pressure, And Lipid Goals For Patients With Type II...
HgA1c, blood pressure, and lipid goals for patients with type II diabetes mellitus
Type 2 diabetes, often referred to as noninsulin dependent diabetes, is a chronic
condition that is often brought on by an individual s lifestyle. Such as obesity, poor
eating habits and not exercising. With this condition the body either resist insulin
effect or doesn t produce enough insulin (Buttaro, Trybulski, Bailey, Sandberg Cook,
2013). Even though there is no cure for this condition, it can be controlled with diet,
exercise and weight management and oral medications. When a patient lives a
sedentary lifestyle, does not exercise and have poor eating habits, often times oral
medications is not enough to control their diabetes therefore insulin is added to the
treatment regimen ( Buttaro el al., 2013).
There are complications that can result when diabetes is out of control, these
complications increases with having an elevated HgA1c, high blood pressure and
elevated lipids. These complications include, heart and blood vessels diseases,
neuropathy, nephropathy, eye damage, Alzheimer disease among other complications
(Buttaro et al., 2013).
According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA) (2014), diabetics A1C

expectancy, and comorbid condition, known CVD or microvascular complications
and hypoglycemia unawareness. These goals should be geared towards achieving an

and Roll shocked the world since the 50 s. Most people found this new music very
enthusiastic, especially teens. Across America where rock and roll was created,
some people saw good in this music and others saw bad. This is the history of rock
and roll. Most historians trace rock and roll back to the 1950 s, more specifically
1954. When this new type of music appeared it changed the world, especially among
young people. Rock and roll did not develop immediately, it was regularly denounced
throughout the 50 s because it was believed it had a negative impact on the nation s

Coming Of Film Techniques
Film style refers to the technical practices employed within filmmaking, this includes
the use of cinematography, mise en scene, dialogue, editing and narrative.
Understanding changes in film style is crucial to examining film in a historical,
political and cultural context. All of which as these external elements directly
affected the production of filmand altered the style of filmmaking. In this essay I
will be exploring how the coming of sound homogenised filmmaking and aided the
creation of a widespread distinct film style, Classical Hollywood cinema.
As a result of the coming of film sound, an exclusively visual experience, became an
equally audible one and within a decade, silent films were transformed from being
the exclusive mode ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Short pieces of dialogue were inserted into the film through title cards, which
framed the film s narrative through textual communication. These distinctive film
style techniques changed as as a result of the coming of film sound as films were
created with a consideration of sound. Scenes began to have less cuts in order to
focus on the importance of the characters dialogue, which strayed from the
previous importance placed on mise en scene and set design. This pattern of
conventions, created a new film style that favoured naturalistic acting, static
camera shots and an overall emphasis on dialogue and sound. In 1929, Britain
released it s first full talkie film, Blackmail, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Despite
the film originally being shot as silent film the studio decided that the film would
alternatively be produced as a talkie alongside the original release. Hitchcock s
Blackmail epitomises the changes film style accommodated with the new medium
of sound. The two versions of the film differ in filmic techniques, despite the only
difference being the introduction of sound. With the inclusion of sound there is
less of a need for visual storytelling. In the film s famous knife sequence the silent
version of the scene has a shot of the bell ringing to indicate that someone has
entered the shop, this is a requirement as the audience would not otherwise be
aware of this. However, in the version with sound this shot is cut as the sound can
be a diegetic noise, leading to less of an interruption in the scene s building tension
an important motif which became a trademark of Hitchcock s filmmaking style.
Another aspect which conveys a shift in film style is when the film s protagonist
Alice reaches over to grab the knife on the table. In the film s silent version a dark
shadow is cast under her hand, acting as a connotation to Alice s inner turmoil after
Giving Up Candy
Giving up candy for Lent may seem very easy for most people to do, but for Danny
seemed like it would be impossible to do. Lent is a religious observance that begins
on the day of Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday, or approximately six
weeks. It is a season where Catholics prepare for Easter and give up something
important from themselves for forty days like Jesus did in the desert. This story took
place in 2012 as a fifth grader and lasted a couple of days before Lentto the very end
of Lent or around the months of February and March. This story is about how
giving up chocolate for Lent like Danny did or any other major goal is possible if you
stay focused and motivated.

Can I talk to you about my Lent sacrifice? I don t think I will able to complete the

Father Breen looked at the him and thought for a minute.
What is your sacrifice for Lent Danny? Father asked.
Well, Danny said nervously. It is candy. Before Lent I ate it a lot.
Well, Father Breen said. That is the point of a Lent sacrifice, Danny. You are
supposed to give up something that is very close to you. It is supposed to make you
feel like how Jesus was in the desert. Jesus also felt giving up in the desert
sometimes, but he fought through it. That s what you also have to do if you want to
succeed at it.
Danny thought about what Father Breen just said. He now understood what he
needed to do to his sacrifice.
Do you know what? Danny said enthusiastically. I feel like I have what I need to do
fully on my sacrifice. Thank you for the advice.
No problem. Father said. Remember if you need any help with anything, I will be
right here.
Thanks Father! Danny
The Syrian Refugee Crisis Essay
A refugee is defined as an individual who has been forced to leave their country due
to political or religious reasons, or due to threat of war or violence. There were 19.5
million refugees worldwide at the end of 2014, 14.4 million under the mandate of the
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), around 2.9 million
more than in 2013. The other 5.1 million Palestinian refugees are registered with the
United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). With the displacement of so
many people, it is difficult to find countries willing to accept all the refugees. There

Despite the efforts of parents to keep traditions alive, children are changing,
fighting over food, clothing and anything of any value. Many children feel like
they are prisoners in their host countries. Many are not allowed to leave their
homes due to safety concerns and chores that need to be completed. Twenty nine
percent of Syrian refugees leave their home less than once a week. In many cases,
multiple families are crammed into the same, often one roomed house. People
who held jobs, and often led successful lives now live off of handouts, or by
working odd jobs. Many children have been out of school for over two years, and
there is no opportunity to begin school in their host country. Last year, over 40%
of elementary children dropped out of school due to the civil war and resulting
displacement. With no job and no opportunity of education for their children, there
is little hope for those who have fled Syria. Aside from the difficulty of finding a
place within a school, many children are also expected to work and to help provide
for their families, as many parents cannot find a job. Many go to school all day, and
then work night shifts at restaurants or factories. Many children are often exposed to
extremely long working hours, dangerous types of work and many are exposed to
illegal activities. Those that do manage to go to school are faced with harsh
discrimination, and often segregation. The parents of Jordanian and Lebanese

Golden Age Of Absolutism Essay
The Age of Absolutism, ranging from 1550 1800, was a period of time where
monarchs successfully gathered wealth and power of states thus allowing the
world to witness the emergence of the Absolute Monarch . The beginning of the
absolutism unarguably originated in Spain with King Philip II who remained in
power for 42 years, claiming he ruled by divine right. Philip II not only extended
Spain s power during his time as an absolute monarch but also led Spain through a
Golden Age from the years 1550 1650. Philip II founded academies of both

Louis XIV also pressured the whole senior nobility to spend copious amounts of

Key Women s Issues in HR
We have to pass pay equity for women workers. It is not acceptable that women are
making 78 cents an hour compared to men, said democratic candidate Bernie
Sanders in a speech to the National Press Club in March of this year. 52 years after
the Equal Pay Act was passed, working women in the United States still face a gender
pay gap no matter what career they are in and while we have made progress since
1963, recently any improvement on the wage disparity has remained stagnant.
Woman have historically been treated unequally to men despite their non majority

Then, a little over a year later Title VII of Civil Rights Act of 1964 helped strengthen
the Equal Pay Act by prohibiting employee discrimination based on sex and almost
half a decade later President Obama passed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which
also helped strengthen the original Equal Pay Act as well as removed the statute of
limitation on filing for gender pay discrimination ( Everything You Need to Know
about the Equal Pay Act ).
Despite all of the efforts by politicians in the last decade, the gender pay gap in the
United States still continues to persist. A study conducted by the Pew Research
Center in the fall of 2014 looked at how the gender pay gap between men and
woman has narrowed, but still persisted. Over 30 years ago, a woman made 64
cents to the dollar that a man made fast forward to 2015 and women earn 79 cents
to a man s dollar. Despite this increase, the pay gap still persists and recently has
been shrinking much more slowly; from 1980 to 1990 the pay gap shrunk 11
cents, but only shrunk 3 cents between 1990 and 2000 and 6 cents more between
2000 and 2012. In spite of the gains made to narrow the gap, why does it still
persist? Many women have taken a significant amount of time off of work to care
for family members or quit all together according to those surveyed by the Pew
Research Center, 39% took time off to care for family, 42% had to reduce their
hours, and 27% quit work

  • 1. I Am Legend Essay Crafting an essay on the topic of "I Am Legend" can pose a significant challenge due to the multifaceted nature of the subject matter. Richard Matheson's novel, which has inspired various film adaptations, delves into themes such as isolation, survival, and the human condition in a post-apocalyptic world. Tackling this essay requires a comprehensive understanding of the source material, as well as the ability to analyze and interpret the nuances of the narrative. One must navigate the complexities of the protagonist's psychological journey, exploring the impact of isolation on the human psyche and the consequences of being the last person alive. Additionally, addressing the symbolism and allegorical elements within the story adds another layer of intricacy to the essay. Moreover, the essay should delve into the social commentary embedded in "I Am Legend," examining how the narrative reflects contemporary fears and anxieties. This necessitates research into the historical context in which the novel was written and an understanding of how it has resonated with different audiences over time. Furthermore, the essay should showcase critical thinking and analytical skills by evaluating the various adaptations of "I Am Legend" in film and their deviations from the source material. This requires a keen eye for cinematic techniques, narrative choices, and their impact on the overall message of the story. • 3. Silence And The Avoidance Of Persecution Silence and the Avoidance of Persecution In the film Silence, the characters of Kichijiro, Rodrigues, and Ferreira illustrate the idea that a person s outward actions fail at conveying their inward beliefs. Throughout the film, Kichijiro consistently claims that he is a Christian but then denies Christ whenever serious opposition arises. However, the film uses the discovery of Kichijiro s crucifix at the end of the film and his continuous declarations to Father Rodrigues of, Forgive me Father for I have sinned, as a method of suggesting that even though Kichijiro outwardly apostated many times, he still had a strong faith on the inside. Moreover, the character of Rodrigues extends the film s theme through the line, Even if God had been silent my whole life to this very day everything I do, everything I ve done, speaks of Him, and through his possession of a crucifix when his body underwent cremation. The aforementioned quote and the possession of the crucifix illustrate that even though Rodrigues committed the act of apostasy he never truly apostatized in his heart. Finally, when the fallen priest Ferreira mentions to Rodrigues, Only our Lord can judge your heart, it evidences that even though Ferreira openly apostated and helped the Japanese in their attempt at attaining Rodrigues apostasy, ... Consequently, Ferreira s proclamation serves as the perfect representation of the film s theme because it reinforces the importance of a person s internal thought and beliefs over their external actions because God judges works
  • 4. Aromaticity Of Pyridine Lab Report Aromaticity and reactions of pyridine Introduction Pyridine is a nitrogen containing aromatic analogue of benzene. The N in pyridine is sigma bonded to two atoms and has a lone pair, and is therefore sp2 hybridized. This leaves one electron in an unhybridized p orbital, which contributes to the system, making a total of 6, and therefore an aromatic molecule (5 x C H contribute 5 electrons, N contributes 1, = 6, 4N+2). The lone pair on the N is in an sp2 orbital, which means it is directed away from the ring but in the same plane. The lone pair of electrons are not involved in the aromatic system, and stick out away from the molecule. Pyridine is aromatic, and displays aromatic characteristics such as high resonance energy (27kcal/mol), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hellwinkel, D. (1998). Oil Companies And Economic Power Oil Companies and Economic Power Introduction In the modern world energy has become very important since it helps drive most industrial as well as home based activities. The process that leads to production of the world s largest energy provider, Oil, however has continued to receive criticism. This is so since production of Gasoline, Natural Gas, Kerosene as well as other components present in crude oil leads to some forms of environmental pollution. According to Gandhi, Passive resistance is a method of securing rights by personal suffering. The fact that there are so many men still alive in the world shows that it based not on the force of arms but on the force of truth or love [qtd.in Overfield 46]. Furthermore, Gandhi concluded, Passive resistance is an all sided sword; it can be used anyhow; it blesses him who uses it and hi against whom it is used. Without drawing a drop of blood, it produces far reaching results [qtd.in Overfield 46]. As the company expanded its distribution to new markets within the U.S. in attempt to gain market share, it made a strategic decision to maintain a majority of its brewing operations at its primary production facility in Golden, Colorado. For example Coors was brewed using pure Rocky Mountain spring water. Coors had a great opportunity to serve an underserved geographical market. Seven of 24 million barrels sold in the region had to be imported from production facilities outside of the region, and Coors Colorado facility was more central to the area than the three other closest facilities in Missouri, Texas, and Wisconsin. Coors had the second lowest production cost per barrel in the industry, in spite of their claim of the most expensive raw material costs. Their cost advantage stemmed from the industry s highest capacity utilization, economies of scale through the country s largest brewery, single product focus, and the industry s fastest packaging lines. At first glance moral relativismmay appear ideal in allowing for individual freedom. After all why shouldn t each individual be entitled to their own idea of moral values and why should others force their beliefs on anyone else. This chain reaction of individuals applying their moral values to situations that arise is a continual and expanding predicament. How do you stop a chain reaction when everyone involved is right in their own mind? According to moral relativity every individual is the source of their own moral authority....and who has the right to tell any other individual that he is wrong.......according to that other individual s highest authority (his self), his behavior is right and morally just. She and her team at the Genomic Institute of Singapore (GIS) has pioneered research into applying NGS to Dengue virus, achieving a method to amplify the Dengue virus out of human blood samples and subsequent NGS analysis, of which leads to many applications. Dengue, which is a virus composed of 10 000 base pairs, consists in each type a single mutation each time it replicates. This arises when the virus folds in its protein form and its error prone RNA dependent RNA polymerase changes its nucleic base to behave differently with a host factor, thereby making it more pathogenic. NGS is therefore particularly useful as it allows scientists to pinpoint at which particular point there is such a nucleotide variant, which is important epidemiological information on the highly mutagenic virus. That position corresponds the method of translation for the virus, which is critical to the life cycle of the virus and how it responds to selective pressure in the environment to change. By looking at base changes, NGS ultimately enables scientists to track what the virus wants to do. This is essential information then allows scientists start at developing many

At the start, he came from a poor family so he had to be resourceful. As stated earlier the preferred measure of fair value is the market approach, because the prices are observable. For this reason the standard recognizes the need for relevant, reliable, and comparable information in order for users to make better decisions about the current financial position of a company. Financial readers are aware of the valuing measurement used to calculate the fair value, whether the measurement were derived from an observable or unobservable input. The measurement establishes the existence of reliable and relevance qualitative factors that make accounting information useful for decision making (Barbera, 2007). If it were observable then the value derived can be researched and verified. However, if it were unobservable then the user must read the disclosures which will be discussed later in the research paper, and determine the reliability of the internally generated measurement. An opposer to this view may complain that the Meningococcal vaccination does not protect students from all strains of meningitis, but this is the case with every vaccination. The vaccination is created to protect society from the most common strain of the disease, and the overall rarity of these diseases only calls for the single vaccination of this strain. Primarily colonial leadership could make this decision, because the gist of the situation comprised of keeping the slaves from taking advantage of the fact that England allowed freedom under certain circumstances. Economically, the Crown did not provide as much assistance as needed to the colonists of the New World. Trade involved mainly countries other than England, because this way profits were maximized. England, once again, created its colonies for mercantilist reasons: profits and only profits. In reaction to these trade schemes, the Navigation Acts were enforced. Smuggling then grew extremely popular mainly because of price differences and simple convenience. Agriculturally, the main crops were indigo, sugarcane, tobacco, cotton, and rice. Due to high demand, several workers were needed. Through the Triangular trade, raw materials went to England and the Northern Colonies, slaves came to the plantation dominated areas of the colonies, and manufactured goods went to the West Indies. Molasses was turned into rum in New England and traded for more slaves as well. Religious freedom was one of the main causes for English peoples to move to the New World. He was always careful to preface his remarks with The honorable Elijah Muhammad teaches. . . . More significantly, Malcolm clearly disagreed with the NOI s policy of not participating in politics. He not only believed that political mobilization was indispensable but occasionally defied the rule by supporting boycotts and other forms of protest. In 1962, before he split with the NOI, Malcolm shared the podium with black, white, and Puerto Rican labor organizers in the left wing, multiracial hospital workers union in New York. He also began developing an independent Pan Africanist and, in some respects, Third World political perspective during the 1950s, when anticolonial wars and decolonization (see Decolonization in Africa: An Interpretation) were pressing public issues. As early as 1954 Malcolm gave a speech comparing the situation in Vietnam (see Vietnam War) with that of the Mau Mau Rebellion in colonial Kenya, framing both of these movements as uprisings of the darker races creating a tidal wave against U.S. and

  • 38. Brokeback Mountain Analysis Brokeback Mountain by Annie Proulx is a heart wrenching short story written with an intimate style that evokes clear imagery in the mind of the reader. Although, only 28 pages in length the short story offered Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana source material that had potential to be expanded and to build upon the already created Midwestern reality. One of the elements altered for the screenplay from the short story is the perspective; which follows the main character, Ennis Del Mar over the course of twenty years. Although, not told through Ennis eyes exactly, the reader is given access to his emotional state; meaning his thoughts and feelings are explained more so than any other character. For example: He had no serious hard feelings, just a vague sense of getting shortchanged, and showed it was all right by taking Thanksgiving dinner with Alma and her grocer and the kids, sitting between his girls and talking horses to them, , telling jokes, trying not to be a sad daddy. (pg. 16) The screenplay shares a similar perspective, but expands the view to include Jack Twist, moving between the lives of both men throughout the years. However, the screenplay stays true to the source material by paying more attention to the original main character, Ennis. Another element that is changed from the short story to the screenplay is the expansion or flushing out of characters. In Proulx s story, characters other than Ennis and Jack are mostly referred to, or given glimpses of.

In fact, even physicians and mental health specialists often questioned the existence of the disease, which of course led to society s misconception of PTSD in general. Sadly because of this existing prejudice it appears even today soldiers are still worried to admit having PTSD symptoms, and therefore they do not receive the proper support they need. Understanding changes in film style is crucial to examining film in a historical, political and cultural context. All of which as these external elements directly affected the production of filmand altered the style of filmmaking. In this essay I will be exploring how the coming of sound homogenised filmmaking and aided the creation of a widespread distinct film style, Classical Hollywood cinema. As a result of the coming of film sound, an exclusively visual experience, became an equally audible one and within a decade, silent films were transformed from being the exclusive mode ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Short pieces of dialogue were inserted into the film through title cards, which framed the film s narrative through textual communication. These distinctive film style techniques changed as as a result of the coming of film sound as films were created with a consideration of sound. Scenes began to have less cuts in order to focus on the importance of the characters dialogue, which strayed from the previous importance placed on mise en scene and set design. This pattern of conventions, created a new film style that favoured naturalistic acting, static camera shots and an overall emphasis on dialogue and sound. In 1929, Britain released it s first full talkie film, Blackmail, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Despite the film originally being shot as silent film the studio decided that the film would alternatively be produced as a talkie alongside the original release. Hitchcock s Blackmail epitomises the changes film style accommodated with the new medium of sound. The two versions of the film differ in filmic techniques, despite the only difference being the introduction of sound. With the inclusion of sound there is less of a need for visual storytelling. In the film s famous knife sequence the silent version of the scene has a shot of the bell ringing to indicate that someone has entered the shop, this is a requirement as the audience would not otherwise be aware of this. However, in the version with sound this shot is cut as the sound can be a diegetic noise, leading to less of an interruption in the scene s building tension an important motif which became a trademark of Hitchcock s filmmaking style. Another aspect which conveys a shift in film style is when the film s protagonist Alice reaches over to grab the knife on the table. In the film s silent version a dark shadow is cast under her hand, acting as a connotation to Alice s inner turmoil after

Lent is a religious observance that begins on the day of Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday, or approximately six weeks. It is a season where Catholics prepare for Easter and give up something important from themselves for forty days like Jesus did in the desert. This story took place in 2012 as a fifth grader and lasted a couple of days before Lentto the very end of Lent or around the months of February and March. This story is about how giving up chocolate for Lent like Danny did or any other major goal is possible if you stay focused and motivated. I don t think I will able to complete the whole 40 days and I am worried. Father Breen looked at the him and thought for a minute. What is your sacrifice for Lent Danny? Father asked. Well, Danny said nervously. It is candy. Before Lent I ate it a lot. Well, Father Breen said. That is the point of a Lent sacrifice, Danny. You are supposed to give up something that is very close to you. It is supposed to make you feel like how Jesus was in the desert. Jesus also felt giving up in the desert sometimes, but he fought through it. That s what you also have to do if you want to succeed at it. Danny thought about what Father Breen just said. He now understood what he needed to do to his sacrifice. Do you know what? Danny said enthusiastically. I feel like I have what I need to do fully on my sacrifice. Thank you for the advice. No problem. Father said. Remember if you need any help with anything, I will be right here. Thanks Father! Danny

Many children feel like they are prisoners in their host countries. Many are not allowed to leave their homes due to safety concerns and chores that need to be completed. Twenty nine percent of Syrian refugees leave their home less than once a week. In many cases, multiple families are crammed into the same, often one roomed house. People who held jobs, and often led successful lives now live off of handouts, or by working odd jobs. Many children have been out of school for over two years, and there is no opportunity to begin school in their host country. Last year, over 40% of elementary children dropped out of school due to the civil war and resulting displacement. With no job and no opportunity of education for their children, there is little hope for those who have fled Syria. Aside from the difficulty of finding a place within a school, many children are also expected to work and to help provide for their families, as many parents cannot find a job. Many go to school all day, and then work night shifts at restaurants or factories. Many children are often exposed to extremely long working hours, dangerous types of work and many are exposed to illegal activities. Those that do manage to go to school are faced with harsh discrimination, and often segregation. The parents of Jordanian and Lebanese

It is not acceptable that women are making 78 cents an hour compared to men, said democratic candidate Bernie Sanders in a speech to the National Press Club in March of this year. 52 years after the Equal Pay Act was passed, working women in the United States still face a gender pay gap no matter what career they are in and while we have made progress since 1963, recently any improvement on the wage disparity has remained stagnant. Despite all of the efforts by politicians in the last decade, the gender pay gap in the United States still continues to persist. A study conducted by the Pew Research Center in the fall of 2014 looked at how the gender pay gap between men and woman has narrowed, but still persisted. Over 30 years ago, a woman made 64 cents to the dollar that a man made fast forward to 2015 and women earn 79 cents to a man s dollar. Despite this increase, the pay gap still persists and recently has been shrinking much more slowly; from 1980 to 1990 the pay gap shrunk 11 cents, but only shrunk 3 cents between 1990 and 2000 and 6 cents more between 2000 and 2012. In spite of the gains made to narrow the gap, why does it still persist? Many women have taken a significant amount of time off of work to care for family members or quit all together according to those surveyed by the Pew Research Center, 39% took time off to care for family, 42% had to reduce their hours, and 27% quit work
