The agricultural policy for Nigeria, (Federal Ministry of Agriculture, 1987) outlined the
traditional contribution expected of Nigerian agriculture. They include the provision of
adequate food, a source of employment, foreign exchange, raw materials for domestic industries
and the provision of a market for the product of the industrial sector. The contribution of
agriculture to food supply could be measured indirectly via the volume as well as the value of
food imports (Ihimodu, 1993). He also noted that a direct measure of food production is difficult
because of lack of adequate statistical data. It has always been claimed that the agricultural
sector supplied most of the food needs of the economy especially before and during the 1950s
and 1960s. In recent times however, there has been some concern that there exists a widening
gap between domestic food supply and total food requirements. Some studies have shown that
while the demand for food has been growing at about 3.5% per annum, food production has been
growing only at about 2.5% per annum (Agricultural Policy for Nigeria, 1987: 12). This has led
to a significant increase in food imports both in absolute terms as well as in relative to the total
import bill. To a large extent, the absolute value of import had risen overtime, as had the
proportion of food in the total import bill. Generally, before 1974 the food bill constituted less than
10% of total

The Siegel Group Interview
The person I decided to interview for this assignment was Dominick Wade. He is a manager of a
lock shop and preventative maintenance company called The Siegel group. It is a contracting
company that is located in Fort Hood, Texas. What this particular company does is preventative
maintenance on the electronic door locks on all of the barracks on Fort Hood. Which also includes
changing the batteries, card readers, mortises, computers inside the locks, and replace missing
screws in the door locks. After conducting this interview, I gained some knowledge and
understanding about the maintenance industry. It also gave me a greater appreciation for what
maintenance workers do.

Hormones And Levels Of These Hormones
hormones and levels of these hormones. The amount and type of hormones we experience while in
the womb are responsible for differentiating female brains from male brains and vice versa.
These two instances, the guinea pig and sex reassignment studies, lend credence to the idea that
biology influences our sexual orientation. To bolster these findings Bailey et al. (2000) cite
researchers who have explored regions of the brain that are sexually dimorphic (areas that are
notably different in men and women). Bailey et al. (2000) cites that in 1976 Dorner identified two
brain regions in rats that he implicated in sexual behavior for rats. In males he credited the medial
pre optic anterior hypothalamus (mPOA) and in female rats the area he believed to be responsible
for normal sexual behavior was the ventromedial nucleus (Bailey et al., 2000). This led to others
exploring the areas of the hypothalamus thought to contribute to sexual functioning. Ultimately it
was found that several areas in and around the mPOA appear to be sexually dimorphic. Bailey et
al. (2000) mention that upon comparisons of what is expected when looking at these areas in gay
men there is a difference in size. An area near/in the mPOA called INAH 3 is found to be smaller
and contain fewer cells in women compared to men. Gay men showed size and levels higher than
women but less than men. Also findings have shown that the anterior commissure (AC) that
connects the right and left hemispheres is significantly

During the Three Kingdoms period (1st century B.C. A.D. 7th century) taekwondo became the
basic sport for states and villages as a way to improve national defense and combat skills, and
soon it was developed, with the emphasis as a sport, in religious rituals. Under the state
sponsorship, Koguryo (37 B.C. A.D. 668) had an organized martial artists called sonbae and Shilla
(57 B.C. A.D. 935) boasted hwarang warriors.
In civilian life, farmers and others decided on the pecking order in villages after a competition of
subokta, an unarmed sport. Around this period, subakhu, a systemized division of skills, was the
basis of all martial arts for the upper class and a useful defense skill for the public. Taekkyon, a
basic martial art which is depicted in old tomb murals in Manchuria, also emerged and developed.
Koryo Dynasty (918 1392)
During this period, taekkyon, which first emerged during the Koguryo and Shilla periods,
evolved into a more systemized martial art. It was already divided into basic moves and hand and
foot techniques, and it was so valued that it was a requisite for warriors to enter government
positions. The skills and its force reached a considerable level, and went through a process of

The Management Philosophy of Gemba Kaizen Essay
Introduction
Masaaki Imai, author of Gemba Kaizen, states that companies, particularly in manufacturing field,
can become more profitable by continuously looking for efficiencies. In Western style management
it is more common to seek huge leaps. In Japanese style Kaizen businesses must try to eliminate
anything that is inefficient thus cutting waste. Imai gives impressive examples from real world
situations and supports them with case studies that show Kaizen in work.
Discussion
1) The theme. Gemba Kaizen is divided into two major parts. The first part is well organized and
deeply explained, very easy to read and understand overview of lean management concepts. Author
has done a great job of reviewing the key concepts of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every manager wants to increase revenues with low expenses involved. Being familiar and actual
usage of Gemba Kaizen at the production facility will help managers to improve the work process
and get respect of growing number of satisfied customers.
3) Gemba and Delivery. Gemba is where the customers come into contact with the services
offered. Gemba is present in the workplace of every company whether it is administrative or bank
worker. The problem with modern western managers is that they prefer to sit at there desks with
the desire to distance themselves from real events. They contact with reality only through their
reports. (Masaaki, Imai: Gemba Kaizen. Mc Graw Hill, 1997, p. 3 5).
Gemba means the real place or the place where value is added. In manufacturing it is the shop
floor. It is the centre of what is right and what is wrong with all plant processes. Practicing of
kaizen (improvement) in Gemba may improve not only the plant performance, but also the delivery
system as well. Constantly improving the work place where actual production is done will increase
the quality of products and thus the way they are delivered to customers. Going to Gemba provides
real information, not the one manager sees in the reports.
4) Kaizen and Lean Management. In the context of Kaizen management has two major functions:
(1) maintenance or activities directed toward maintaining

The Cheyenne Tribes Of The Native American Indians
The Cheyenne was one of the most famous tribes of the Native American Indians. They lived on the
Great Plains in what is now South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, and Kansas. During the
1800 s, the U.S. government forced the Cheyennes to move to Oklahoma. Today, there are two
Cheyenne tribes. The Southern Cheyennelive in Oklahoma while the Northern Cheyenne settle in
Montana.
The Cheyenne had an interesting culture and way of life. Boys were taught how to hunt, fish,
and fight from their fathers. Girls learned how to cook, clean, and do chores around the house.
Also, the children went to school and played with dolls, toys, and games. For example, the
Cheyenne kids enjoyed playing the hoop game and lacrosse. A Cheyenne woman was
responsible for building her family s house. She dragged heavy posts with her whenever the
tribe moved. Later on, the Cheyenne Indians killed buffalo so they could use buffalo hide to
make teepees. They lived in teepees because it was easy to set up and take down. As a result of
moving frequently, a teepee allowed the Cheyenne tribe to move within an hour. The Cheyenne
women harvested corn, squash, and beans while the men hunted deer and buffalo. Also, they ate
fish, fruit, and berries. For clothing, the Cheyenne women wore long deerskin dresses that were
decorated with porcupine quills, shells, and elk teeth. Cheyenne men wore breechcloths with
leather leggings in colder climates. Men wore moccasins while the women wore high fringed
boots. Chief leaders had tall feather headdresses and long warbonnets. The hair style for men was
long braids with a topknot and women wore their hair loose or braided. The Cheyennes painted
their faces for war, religious ceremonies, and feasts. Lastly, the Cheyenne people were very
religious. They performed an elaborate Sun Dance, smoked peace pipes, built ceremonial houses,
and four arrows represented their sacred object.
The tribal government of the Cheyenne Indians was called the Council of Forty Four. It was
formed by ten bands of the tribe. The council was made up of four chiefs from each band as well as
four Old Man chiefs. Each chief served a ten year term. Every summer, the Council of Forty Four

Steve Jobs As A Leader
What does it take to be a leader? What does it take to lead efficiently? Is it based off someone
traits such as loyalty, honor, bravery, or their humbleness? Or even if they lack these qualities can
they still be an effective leader? Can they have the right arrangement of significant skills to be
considered what we know as a great leader? Throughout this paper we will explore these question
by using Steve Jobsas a model. We will also use 3 core concepts from the course material
Leadership: A communication perspective by M. Hackman C. Johnson to see why Steve Jobs is
considered a leader based off his characteristics. The 3 core concepts will be coming from Chapter
1 (Leadership and Communication), Chapter 6 (Leadership and Influences) and Chapter 12 (Leader
and Leadership Development). Throughout each of these chapters we will pull out theories to
support Steve Jobs leadership skills and how he fits the definition of being a leader. Also by using
these 3 core concepts we will see how his influences could have lead the opinions of others on
whether they agree or disagree on his leadership style.
As we apply the core concepts and theories from each chapter, lets first define a leader. According
to Dictionary.com a leader is someone who guides or directs a specific group. My personal
definition of a leader is someone who shows trust and selfless love because they see the needs of
others before their own, someone who sets examples by being a motivator, honest and

Mystique Of Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs was broadly known for being the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Apple
Company, and was frequently thought to be a virtuoso and a genuine pioneer. It is the general
thought that he was a phenomenal individual who was monstrously appreciated by devotees of
Apple items and numerous other individuals, whose lives were by one means or another impacted
by his items. In addition, Steve Jobshad mystique that affected his initiative style and brought about
his conspicuous achievement. In this way, Steve Jobs was accepted to have an appealing
administration style, as indicated by Weber s meaning of alluring initiative, in which he expresses
that a magnetic pioneer more often than not displays a particular conduct in having a dream, being
charming, mentally invigorating individuals who tail him, and moving and propelling individuals
to go past the breaking points of desires. Furthermore, magnetic pioneers continually search for
change and change, hence, making advancement, and affecting advancement. All the previously
mentioned qualities identify with Steve Jobs identity and initiative style. In this way, one can
consider Steve Jobs a genuine magnetic pioneer and a standout amongst the most persuasive
pioneers of the 21st century. Steve Jobs has dependably been viewed as an irregularity in
administration; his initiative style was a comment or to reprimand, yet unquestionably not to
reproduce. He didn t fit into the systems of business reading material: there was

The Flight Flying on an airplane has always been one of the most exciting experiences in the life

For me it was the first time I flew in an airplane, it was an experience full of adrenaline, and one
of the best moments of my life. Love every part of being in an airplane. Going into the airplane,
takeoff, landing and of course the best moment of all was to see my mom again. Boarding the

Suddenly again the same pleasant voice that greeted us on the plane ride. This time to inform us
that we were about to land. When we flew over the airport and see that big building made me
feel that many surprises were to come. During the landing there was a bit of turbulence, it was
funny because it felt like when you go in a car and there are bumps in the road. After landing, I
went to the emigration office. This office was filled with people in suits and all talking in

Australian Tax Reform
Debt, Death Taxes
16th October 2002 Robert Camilleri
The Conservative government doctrine is essentially defined as the party of tax relief. But now
conservatives have converted themselves into the party of debt retirement. The conservative
government has lost interest in tax cutting and instead wants to devote the surplus tax payments and
asset sales over the next 3 years to paying down the national debt. The Howard Costello
government, seen as militant debt hawks, has announced their goal is to retire the entire national
debt by 2005.
Has this government forgotten all of the economic and political lessons of the past 20 years? Take
the American experience of the Reagan Government, they used surpluses to cut marginal tax rates,

Parliament will spend the money, because it is in their nature. The debt hawks say, stash the
surplus money away so it s available for a rainy day. The truth is, for parliament; every day is a
rainy day. The Howard government real concern is that if they are sitting on this cash the public
will be screaming out for tax cuts, so repaying debt is a quick an easy way to take the focus off this
get rid of the cash.
Tax reform is the smarter strategy rather than reducing the debt burden and it will grow the GDP
faster. A dollar devoted to reducing marginal tax rates or to reducing the tax penalty against saving
and investment will yield a higher return to the Australian economy, and thus to future generations,
than a dollar used for retiring debt
But even if we suspend our disbelief and assume that every surplus penny was used to buy down
debt, the economic benefit would be trivial. The primary argument in favour of debt reduction is
that it will relieve the burden from our children of having to pay off the debt in the future. But as
long as we don t add to the debt over the next decade through a return to deficit spending, the debt
burden on the next generation will fall automatically. It already is happening. Even without a
penny of actual debt retirement, the debt as a share of GDP will fall from 15% of GDP in the early
1990s, using the current debt levels, to about 8% of GDP now. In

Khisu Mineral Water, which has apparently cured the Korean King Sejong of all illnesses. Perrier

Analysis
Perrier has a lot of strengths compared to its competitors. It is naturally carbonated from France,
unique in its qualities, difficult to copy. It has an internationally strong brand name. So it makes
sense to keep the existing product available for the market and do not diversify. From the case
study we know that before the product s price was relatively high to soft drinks

Ethical Issues In Corrections
Whenever a correctional officer utilizes her or his power to take away civil rights of a prisoner,
the victim (prisoner) can file a lawsuit against the correctional officer to recoup legal expenses,
collect damages and end the violation. Wardens and managers can also be responsible for the
action of a correctional officer, even if they have no knowledge about it. Funds shortages do not
give managers the excuse of not providing the required training to their staff and correctional
officers. The prisonadministering local governments are also responsible for hurtful or damaging
action (Clear, Cole Reisig, 2011, pp.230 231).

First reason, they demonstrate and display aggressive standards for prison managing, which aid
in avoiding claims and lawsuit cases. If inmates experiencing problems during incarceration and
the prison administration were following the standard procedures, they will not be held
responsible. Second reason, guidelines add a base foundation by which management can check
and choose the performance of the staff. Their requirement is just to decide if the staffs are
abiding by functional guidelines. Third reason, codes assist the progress of preparation and
assessment of prison programs by providing program managers a goal to achieve in their work
(Clear, Cole Reisig, 2011, pp.230 231).
As a correctional officer, it requires me to follow the rules, regulations, and policies of the prison

Types Of Conditioning, Classical And Operant
Learning theories are normally divided into paradigms, these paradigms symbolise the different
views in learning. They consist of; behaviourism, cognitivism, constructivism, humanism and
play. Behaviourism is the theory that human and animal behaviour can be explained in terms of
conditioning, without appeal to thoughts and feelings (Oxford dictionaries) a behaviourist
believes that all learners start with a clean slate and that we are conditioned. Conditioning
happens when we interact with the environment and how the environment stimulates us dictates
our actions. There are two types of conditioning, classical and operant. Theorist Ivan Pavlov is
associated with classical conditioning; Pavlov was born September 1849 in Rayazan Russia
and died February 1936. He studied at the University of St Petersburg and received a degree in
the Candidate of Natural Sciences in 1875. His theory came about through his study of dogs, he
noticed that every time he entered the room in his white lab coat his dog would salivate even if
he didn t have any food, the dog didn t learn to salivate it was a reflex, it is hard wired into the
dog; an unconditioned response. He linked this to the white lab coat, the dogs had learned they
would receive food. He wanted to take this further so he then introduced a bell, this was a neutral
stimulus, every time he gave the dogs food he would ring the bell, after repeating this action a few
times he then rang the bell on its own and the effect was the

robber the money that was in it. That day was very frightening for her, she no longer felt that she
was safe working there anymore so she decided to leave. The Alcoholic Beverage Control well
known as the ABC store was where my mother started working after she left Winn Dixie. This
store was located in Birmingham, Alabama. My mother worked there for two months then she
later got a job at The Alabama Department of Human Resources Food Stamps office located in
Tuskegee, Alabama. She worked at the Food stamps office for five years. My mother liked working
in Tuskegee but she was tired of driving back and forth everyday going to work so she decided to
apply for a job at The Alabama Health Department as a Medicaid worker so she could be closer to

though this job was similar to her previous job at The Alabama Human Resources Food Stamps

Sharecropping In 1860
In 1860 there were only 15 slave quarters compared to the 26 homes of former slaves in 1881. I
noticed that the slave quarters in 1860 are different sizes. Five are very small and the other ten
look the same size. In 1881, all former slave homes look the same size except for Gus Barrow s
home which looks slightly smaller. The Master s house, service and farm buildings, and gin
house is all located along the road in 1860. In 1881, the school house, church, five of the former
slave homes, and the Master s home is all located along the road. I believe that the former slave
master was not pleased about the new system of sharecropping since it allowed the ex slaves to
settle farther from the main house (his house). In 1860, the slave master used

Mulan Women
Mulan goes off on her own, knowing the consequences she will have to face if she is caught
attending the war as a woman. The ancestors awaken and they all argue about the situation that
Mulan is in and how she has went off alone. They explain how Mulan, going to the war, will
dishonor the Fa family, even further than she has done when she was meeting the matchmaker.
The very scene of them discussing has a very dark and gray color to it, representing the despair
that the ancestors all feel about Mulan participating in the war. They do not agree with the attitude
and decisions of Mulan. One of the ancestors even said that she did not like Mulan from the
moment she was born and told the other that she was a child full of trouble. This depicts... Show

Mulan, not knowing how to act as a man, is dumbfounded by the actions that these men take.
Compared to Mulan, the men are much larger in size, more buff and fat. Men are shown clipping
their toenails with chopsticks, picking their own boogers, and also fighting amongst each other.
This portrays how men were depicted at this time, very unrefined compared to the women.
Mushu, being a male dragon, explains to Mulan about what it takes to be man, how hitting each
other is another form of greeting to men. Mushu defines men as rowdy, disgusting, and
uncivilized and Mulan very much agrees due to the disgusting aspect she sees of men. Here, she
then meets Yao, Ling, and Chien Po, who all are depicted to show stupidity in men. Mushu s
teachings on how to be a man causes conflict between Mulan and these three men. At the camp,
Mulan outwits these three stooges many times when she is in harm s way. Here, not only does
she meet Yao, Ling, and Chien Po, but also Captain Shang, who gives off a feeling of duty and
pride. Shang trains Mulan and everyone else in the training camp on what it is like to be a

The Reaction Of A Fischer Esterification Reaction
In this experiment, a Fischer Esterification reaction was performed with two unknown
compounds. The unknown compounds, Acid 2 and Alcohol D, were identified by using the
knowledge of the reaction that took place, and the identity of the product that was synthesized.
The identification of the product resulted from analysis of IR and NMR spectra. For this
experiment, Alcohol D and Acid 2 reacted in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid, resulting
in a colorless solution with brown layer on top. After washes with sodium bicarbonate and brine,
the pale yellow liquid product was dried and then distilled. Distillation resulted in two colorless
fractions, the second of which had a boiling point of 69 70 ЛљC. This boiling point is unrealistic
for any compound obtained in this experiment, so it was not used in identifying the product.
After distillation, both fractions were spectroscopically analyzed. The IR and NMR spectra
obtained for both fraction were identical, meaning both fractions contained exactly the same
substance. Both fractions also smelled the same, like piГ±a colada, therefore confirming this
conclusion. This outcome also meant that the amount of product synthesized was 5.7393 g. For
the identification of the product, IR, 13C NMR and 1H NMR spectra were examined, and the
product was found to be butyl propionate. In the IR spectrum, RM 11 Bi, five key peaks are
observed. These peaks are sp3 hybridized carbons at 2961 cm 1 and 2877 cm 1, an ester at 1737 cm

Globalization of the Fast Food Industry Imagine a world where almost everyone is overweight,
and cultural and family traditions do not exist. Eric Schlosser s book Fast Food Nation: The
Dark Side of the All American Meal explores the effects of the spread of fast food companies like
McDonald s to other countries. In his chapter Global Realization Eric Schlosser claims that The
global expansion of American fast food is homogenizing cultural identities; like Las Vegas, it
offers a brief sense of hope... that most brilliant illusion of all, a loss that feels like winning

as well as more subtle methods. In order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Schlosser starts off by saying that McDonald s biggest forms of advertisement is toward small
children. An Australian survey concluded that half of the nation s nine and ten year olds
thought that Ronald McDonald knew what kids should eat (Schlosser 530). It just goes on to
show how the fast food industry exploits children at such a young age. Schlosser goes
mentioning that on several occasions McDonald s tends to bully any party whom tries to take
them to court, and threatened to sue at least fifty British publications and organizations,
including channel 4, the Sunday Times, the Guardian, the Sun, student publications, a
vegetarian society, and a Scottish theater group (542). McDonald s did this for the sake of not
losing a case called The Mclibel case which consists of a former postal worker Dave Morris and
minibus driver and bartender Helen Steel which filed a lawsuit accusing McDonald s for
promoting third world poverty, selling unhealthy food, exploiting workers and children, torturing
animals, and destroying the Amazon rain forest amongst other things (Schlosser 542). During the
case McDonald s went as far as hiring spies to break into houses to gather evidence for their case.
Schlosser writes The spying had begun in 1989 and did not end until 1991, nearly a year afterbthe
libel suit had been filed (544). This helps further Schlosser s claim

BDSM And Demographic Study
BDSM is a taboo topic for most and often times the people who practice it are persecuted. When
most people think of submissives or dominants within BDSM, they believe that the practitioners are
in some way mentally disturbed. However, there is research that has found evidence which
contradicts this thought. One study used scientific scales to measure how much of a specific set of
traits each role appeared to contain and whether this was abnormal in comparison to normative data.
The other study interviewed several practitioners from both roles on what traits they thought suited
them for their own roles and which ones suited those of the opposite role. I am hoping to

It was also thought that dominants might score higher on extraversion than submissives because
greater confidence might be necessary to ensure that BDSM play goes well and ends successfully.
However, dominants did not score higher than submissives on conscientiousness which was
surprising, but it might be due to the fact that submissives must be careful to ensure their safety.
Dominants actually ended up scoring higher on self esteem than submissives though this might be
due to the validation they receive during BDSM play. They found that in general well being,
openness to experience, altruism, honesty humility, and agreeableness, there was little no
significant difference between submissives and dominants. They thought that all the traits except
altruism were likely caused by a need for care and empathy during BDSM play. However, altruism
was lower than normative data. This might be similar to how a persecuted group acts. Submissives
did score higher on emotionality than dominants perhaps because it is important for dominants to

Religion Impact On Humans And World Views
This week was about religion impact on humans and world views, as matter of fact sometimes
they are both closely connected. Many of collectivistic countries, especially in Africa, are also
monotheistic. In class my professor said that many years ago, the big part of the world were
collectivistic, people cared more about each other and they were more family oriented. Currently,
both cultures individualistic and collectivistic are so distinct. One is family oriented, and the other
is self oriented. Looking closer, individualistic people are obviously humandoing because they are
always busy trying to figure out what the future holds for them. They work tirelessly to achieve
their goals which also take all time. In collectivistic culturealso, people are no longer different from
individualistic when it comes to time orientation. It is becoming more common that young people
are leaving their family house early than it used to be for different reasons, education or work. This
habit is becoming acceptable in our society because the education standards set on the labor market
are higher. As my country s government has set the masters degree, as the education level required
to get a job in most of governmental institutions, people are working hard to get their masters
degree and fit for the requirement.
This has pushed education seekers to aim higher as well. For a while now, people work hard to
provide for their family, and make it to school. It is possible and not easy. My

Human Behaviour in the Social Environment
Introduction The article s main social concern is to examine prevention and intervention methods
and their subsequent impact on family poverty and children s mental, emotional and behavioral
health. As a conceptual framework, Yoshikawa, Aber and Beardslee (2012), tackle four aspects of
poverty, the family and child as the main subjects or selection factors, the multidimensional nature
of poverty, the mechanisms through which poverty effects children on an individual, relational and
institutional level, and the multidimensionality of children s outcomes. The authors used two types
of interventions. The first set of interventions were advanced by experts in child and family
development, targeting the mediating mechanisms such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Therefore, our analysis will focus on the child, as the person in environment, and the various
systems around him/her. The microsystem, which contains the child s most immediate
environment (Greene, 1999), includes the family, school, peers and youth programs; each
functioning simultaneously as an independent whole, and as a part of a larger system (Zaastrow
Kirst Ashmas, 2009). Mesosystem, consists of processes occurring between the child s
distinctive microsystems (Greene, 1999). Exosystem involves processes occurring between two
or more systems, one of which is not directly linked to the developing person (Greene, 1999).
Yoshikawa, Aber and Beardslee (2012), explain how poverty is a family affair; the parents
resources directly determine children s access to resources and their social standing. As
mentioned in Yoshikawa et.,al (2012), lack of proper resources limits the family s ability to
purchase goods, schooling, food, and housing, and provide a safe environment for necessary
development. The linkage between family and school is an example of a mesosystem. Moreover
unstable work, an exosystem component, leads to depressed parental mood and marital conflict,
the consequences of which are higher levels of behavioral problems in children, parenting stress
and a lack of effective caregiving (Yoshikawa et., al, 2012). A further illustration of an exosystem:
lack of parental employment contributes to poverty and results in a negative

The Effects of Nature and Nurture in Middle Childhood
The Effects of Nature and Nurture in Middle Childhood Middle Childhood is the name given for
the age division from 6 to 11 years of a child s life. They are also known as the school years.
During this time a child s health, education, and emotional well being are all undergoing changes.
Though not as drastic as the changes they will soon face in adolescence, they are steady, and the
impact that nature and nurture will have on these aspects reach far and wide across the many
developments they face in their lives. Heath is of the utmost importance in raising a child, and is the
biggest factor of a child s physical development in middle childhood. When a child is receiving the
proper nutrition he or she needs, they grow at the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With healthy children physical activity and exercise is key, and there are many forms of it,
such as sports, physical education, and rough and tumble play. A dominance hierarchy is
established through rough and tumble play. Through this activity, it becomes clear who is the
stronger child, which is a way in which nature helps define who is the leader in a group friends,
and who would win, should a conflict arise. Rough and tumble play is common in school
recesses, where children are developing cognitively. If a child has been to preschool before,
chances are, they ll be ahead of the curve a bit when learning to solve problems, and learning
how to read and write. This is another major way in which nurture has its effects on a child s
outcome in development. If a child has received enough attention, and has been read to, then
they are perfectly ready to solve problems rationally, in an organized way. While at this point it is
mostly up to the child to engage in memory strategies like rehearsal, and organization, it is also
up to the parents to impose the proper discipline to make sure that their child uses a part of their
time after school to use these strategies to help them study for a test. If a child is raised in a low
SES environment, where they may be left home alone, for a length of time after they ve arrived
home from school, the child may be watching TV or doing something else while unsupervised.

Critical Reflection On Ethics
Critical Reflection
All three authors take a slightly different approach in explaining ethics with the analogies used, but
they are not that different at their core. Bonhoeffer (1995) describes a religious approach that
compares and contrasts the relationship with Jesus Christ and the influence on the ethical choices
of an individual. Palmer (2004), on the other hand, explains ethics using the wilderness and social
headliners to illustrate the current divide that exists. Finally, Borgmann (2006) uses a political
description of compromises for infrastructure that shapes the ethical views of the society such as the
Interstate Highway System that influenced future choices that now have consequences that need to
be managed. While the analogies are different, the root descriptions encompass a basic principle
that the conduct of an individual will determine the true ethical character of that person, but the
individual requires the support and direction from the society to truly influence a positive ethical
change. The expanse of that society is where the authors begin to divide with Bonhoeffer s (1995)
intended audience being countries based on Christian beliefs of the west, Borgmann (2006)
concentrating on the United States, and Palmer (2004) focusing on the individual within a specified
community that feeds to larger communities.
Each author describes in various methods how the actions of individuals will determine the nature
of the ethics they possess, but that the individual

differences along the supply chain between the business to business (B2B) and the business to
consumer (B2C) marketing in the manufacture and retailing of fast moving consumer goods, it is
important to define the different terms. According to Wright, the supply chain can be defined as the
entire network of suppliers, factories, warehouses, distribution centres and retailers that participate
in the process from raw materials to finished products. (www.soltempo.com) The fast moving

The research market In B2B, Wright states that the pressure to get industrial products with the right
benefits to market ahead of the competition is the main concern (Wright 2004). Secondary
researches such as the market, the trends are more used than primary researches as organisations
activity is based on economic and industrial trend. In B2B, there is a focus on making the products
matching the consumer demand. Secondary researches are needed but primary researches about
consumers psychology are more important as their wants and needs are changing over the years.
(Minett 2002) 2.5. The segmentation In B2B, customers are segmented by industry and individual
company needs as they are not numerous. There are two types of segmentation, the macro
segmentation and the micro segmentation. Both must provide the supplier with added value to
offer. The macro segmentation uses different factors: it distinguishes one sector from another, one
industry from another and one type of organisation from another (Wright 2004). Segmentation is
by: В· type of market: industrial and/or consumer markets В· geographical area В· type of
industries: manufacturing, service or agricultural industries В· public, private or not for profit
sector В· small, medium or large companies В· products and services offered The micro
segmentation subdivides into smaller segments

Questions On Margin Of Error
What is margin of error?
Margin of error is a common summary of sampling error that quantifies uncertainty about survey
results. Three pieces of data are needed to express the confidence interval, : statistic, confidence
level, and margin of error. Confidence Interval is usually stated in the following format: 95
percent confidence intervals, or accurate 19/20 times with a margin of error of +/ 5%. This means
that 19 out of 20 times it is expected that the mean of the survey result (stats) will fall within 5%
above or below the true value. There are strict parameters that determines on which survey results a
Margin of Error disclaimer can included.

Pros And Cons Of Raising The Driving Age
For most kids turning sixteen is what they look forward to for years. After countless hours of driver
s education, and driving around with their guardian, they can finely gain some freedom. Receiving
a license gives one independence, responsibility, and more opportunities. Therefore; raising the
driving age is unfair and ineffective.
Raising the legal driving age lowers job opportunity. There are hundreds of job opportunities for
teenagers ( Jobs for Teens ). However, most of them require a form of transportation to get there.
Many kids live in a home in which both parents work; this limits transportation. If one is
fortunate enough to find a ride to work there still can be a problem. Many jobs that hire teens
require their employees to drive. For example, restaurants who deliver. (Example) Many people
believe driving is an adult responsibility. However, we live in a world where teens are forced to
grow up, get a job, and take responsibility ( Editorial: Teens and their wheels ). Raising the driving

The Solar Of Solar Power Essay
Solar Power Innovations Solar Power has been observed as early as the year of 1839 by a
French physicist named Alexandre Edmond Becquerel. He invented the first photovoltaic cell.
Since then his studies and works have been perfected on and continue to change the world in
which we live for the better. Photovoltaic cells have constantly been evolving ever since. In 1883,
Charles Fritts built the first solid state photovoltaic cell using materials such as gold and
selenium. With further advances to the system, scientist were able to recreate the cell in a way
that could serve as an alternative power source on the satellite named Vanguard that was flown
into space in the year of 1958. In the 1970 s there was an oil crisis when Middle Eastern countries
proclaimed a trading ban, encouraging oil companies to buy solar firms. Funded research allowed
for first, second and third generation cells to be constructed. Currently, the cost of solar energyhas
exponentially decreased with the falling price of silicon, allowing for many new innovations to
take place. Thin solar film is a second generation cell that is being commercially used. The
creation of solar thin film allowed us to reduce cost even further as it is printed in rolls which can
be incorporated into things like building materials instead of having to have big bulky expensive
panels. The film is lightweight, flexible and most importantly, affordable. Over the past few years,
the thin solar film has become more efficient

Experiment to Investigate Osmosis in Potatoes
The aim of this experiment is to investigate the movement of water in and out of plant cells. The
cells chosen for study will be taken from potato tubers. Firstly I will explain what osmosis is.
Osmosis is the passage of water from a region of high water concentration through a semi
permeable membrane to a region of low water concentration. This definition contains three
important statements:
a) It is the passage of water through a semi permeable membrane
b) It is the passage of water from a region of high water concentration

Transpiration pulls water up the plant stem but osmosis is the process whereby water is drawn into
or out of cells and tissues. Osmosis is the flow of water by diffusion through a differentially
permeable membrane from areas of high water concentration to regions of low water concentration.
The diagram below illustrates this:
Water can freely penetrate all membrane. The cellulose cell wall does not act as a semi permeable
membrane and will allow most substances that are dissolved in water to freely pass through it.
Whether water enters the cell by osmosis or not will depend on the balance between external and
internal solute concentrations and the state of the cell. If the solutions on each side of the
differentially permeable membrane are equally concentrated then there will be no net movement of
water across the membrane. This is called an equilibrium state and the solutions are referred to as
being isotonic. A solution that contains more solute particles than another, and is hence more
concentrated, is referred to as being hypertonic. The less concentrated solution is hypotonic. This
concentration of solute particles is usually described as a molarity.
Even if the solute concentration external to the cell is hypotonic to the vacuole contents the cell
will not continue to take in water by osmosis for ever. The cellulose cell wall provides a rigid
barrier to uncontrolled expansion. A cell that is full of water

Obstacles In Minerva s Life
Throughout the whole story the Mirabal family has overcome many obstacles and struggles. In
this story Minerva is probably the one this most applied to. One of the themes is don t let
obstacles stand in the way of beliefs. Meaning don t let anything stand in your way. If you come
across a roadblock do your best to overcome it and do what you feel is right. Minerva is the one
character that I think applies most to this theme. In one case Minerva didn t let Trujillo stand in
her way of starting the revolution. Minerva really started the movement after Trujillo gave her
an invled law degree. This is what really boosted her motivation for the movement. The struggles
that she had to go through was hiding this from the government. It was harder to hide after

headaches and asthma attacks. She eventually gets medication and starts to dance. She is tricked
and brought to Trujillo and begins to dance with him. Minerva is not a fan of Trujillo so when he
attempts to get closer to her she feels uncomfortable and tries to push herself away from him. She
then smacks him across the face. This is one obstacle to Minerva sense she does not like Trujillo
and she can t do anything to get away from him besides smack him in the face. This is basically
what started the whole conflict between the government and the mirabal family. Sense then Trujillo

Rise of Warriors Essay
A change in governance structure can take place due to any variety of causes. While it is well
known that Japan was governed for centuries by the warrior class, it is not always known why.
The samurai rose to power over a long period of time. Following their eventual rise to the top of
the Japanese social ladder, they spent centuries consolidating their new power. There were a
number of factors that lead to the rise of the warrior class in the late Heian period, continuing
until their the Meiji Restoration. The samurai were able to rise to power for a number of reasons,
including the leadership and actions of notable warrior class families: the Taira, Minamoto and
Hojo. Another factor leading to the rise of the warriors was the... Show more content on

The Taira, however, stood out above the Minamoto by having a more favourable position with the
Emperors. The growing rivalry between the two families lead to an increasing tension between the
two. Despite both working for the Emperor, it was understood that if a war broke out: one of these
two clans were to defeat the other, there would be nothing but tradition to stop the victor from
taking over all government authority, 3. This is, of course, what occurred during the Genpei War.
The Minamoto family, too, had a significant role in the growth of the samurai. After the defeat of
the Taira clanin the Genpei war, the Minamoto family, under its leader Yoritomo, founded the first
warrior government4. Their political rivals defeated, the Minamoto were in a position from which
they could shape their country; this was further justified by Prince Mochihito who gave them legal
authority5. The government the Kamakura shogunate that was created under the early rule of the
Minamoto was based on a confederation of Eastern warriors, 6. In doing this, the Minamoto family
united the warrior class in some of the most developed parts of the country. Simultaneously, they
brought the warrior class to the forefront of authority and power in Japanese society. The
importance of the Taira family in the rise of the warrior class is somewhat limited, but absolutely
necessary nonetheless. In order for the Minamoto to take control of the government, they

Inmate Care Problem
Medical problems do not magically disappear once someone has been incarcerated. If anything, I
believe they are more prevalent within corrections. I say that because the first thing said from
many people I arrest is, I need to see a doctor and get my medications. I have even arrested people
who openly told me the reason they broke the law is so they could get free medical attention, such
as surgery or dental work. This not only hurts the budget of a jail or prison, but also the pockets of
taxpayers. According to York, Inmate health care costs are on the rise. This is not surprising
knowing that a great percentage of the inmate population is involved in a risky life of drugs,
drinking, unprotected sex and improper health habits. The cost of... Show more content on

When looking at medical problems reported, females were more probable to report a medical
problem versus male inmates. In addition, females are more likely to report two or more medical
problems versus male inmates. I can relate to this first hand, because many women I have
arrested stated that they were pregnant or they have back issues. Even though prior to coming to
jail, they were drinking, taking drugs, and failed to mention they were pregnant or had back
issues. This report also showed as the age of the inmate increases so does the likelihood of a
medical problem being reported. In addition, hearing and visions reports also increase with age.
Leaning, speech, hearing, vision, mobility, and mental impairment are the six impairments that are
reported by inmates. Both male and female inmates were equal in reporting of having at least one
of the six impairments. When it comes to mental impairment, females were more likely to report
than males. Injuries will occur within prisons, whether accidental or because of fighting. The report
shows that both state and federal inmates are more likely to report accidental injuries versus fight

College Culture
Culture is characterized differently at every university, depending on the type of institution,
academic goal/concentrations, and its mission.
At Grinnell College, being a small private liberal arts university creates a culture of creating a
well rounded student. The focus is in shaping a student s educations in all the areas of study for
them to be well equipped for the ever changing workforce. It also states that they seek a well
diverse student and faculty body with different cultural backgrounds.
The University of South Carolina is a larger public university and one of their main goals for
students is for them to be active in their community. In addition, the university serves students from
a diverse background and provides different types of education being in classroom or ... Show more

Their main goal is to provide their students with a flexible form of education. Providing student
with a quick and affordable education is their main priority.
In the other hand, University of Phoenix is a for profit institution and creates a different culture.
Part of their mission is, To generate the financial resources necessary to support the University s
mission . Their mission statement of providing students with the best education is superficial. In
reality, based on the current issues that for profit institutions are facing, their main goal is creating a
profit.
I have always liked the structure of liberal arts colleges, because of their main objective of shaping
a student s education in all areas of study. Grinnel College type of education is the most appealing
to me, as it provides students with a well rounded education. I assisted student s through the
admissions process to private liberal arts colleges and something that makes their type of learning
ideal is the flexibility of their degrees. Students are given the option of even creating their own
degree, by blending different areas of

Commodity Fetish Analysis
As I sit here typing away on my new Mac book air that I purchased for no apparent reason I can
only feel nauseated, first I did not need it because my other laptop was working fine, and
secondly, I barely had the money to purchase it. Yet, I did, so do I have a fetish with the latest in
tech? After researching this topic, it looks to me that our society also has a fetish, and as Marx put
it, it s a commodity fetish . In our capitalist society it is something that impacts us on multiple levels
from competition to selfish needs, it is in our human nature to have the latest in commodities.
Commodity Fetish s are the relationship between an individual and the production and the
consumption of goods. Marx explains that capitalism is a product... Show more content on

scientific approach of how the work force should operate, micromanaged at every level. Yet, would

innovative breakthroughs. How we as a society now, truly really on the gadgets we have in our

They include the provision of adequate food, a source of employment, foreign exchange, raw materials for domestic industries and the provision of a market for the product of the industrial sector. The contribution of agriculture to food supply could be measured indirectly via the volume as well as the value of food imports (Ihimodu, 1993). He also noted that a direct measure of food production is difficult because of lack of adequate statistical data. It has always been claimed that the agricultural sector supplied most of the food needs of the economy especially before and during the 1950s and 1960s. In recent times however, there has been some concern that there exists a widening gap between domestic food supply and total food requirements. Some studies have shown that while the demand for food has been growing at about 3.5% per annum, food production has been growing only at about 2.5% per annum (Agricultural Policy for Nigeria, 1987: 12). This has led to a significant increase in food imports both in absolute terms as well as in relative to the total import bill. To a large extent, the absolute value of import had risen overtime, as had the proportion of food in the total import bill. Generally, before 1974 the food bill constituted less than 10% of total ... • 4. Hormones And Levels Of These Hormones hormones and levels of these hormones. The amount and type of hormones we experience while in the womb are responsible for differentiating female brains from male brains and vice versa. These two instances, the guinea pig and sex reassignment studies, lend credence to the idea that biology influences our sexual orientation. To bolster these findings Bailey et al. (2000) cite researchers who have explored regions of the brain that are sexually dimorphic (areas that are notably different in men and women). Bailey et al. (2000) cites that in 1976 Dorner identified two brain regions in rats that he implicated in sexual behavior for rats. In males he credited the medial pre optic anterior hypothalamus (mPOA) and in female rats the area he believed to be responsible for normal sexual behavior was the ventromedial nucleus (Bailey et al., 2000). This led to others exploring the areas of the hypothalamus thought to contribute to sexual functioning. Ultimately it was found that several areas in and around the mPOA appear to be sexually dimorphic. Bailey et al. (2000) mention that upon comparisons of what is expected when looking at these areas in gay men there is a difference in size. An area near/in the mPOA called INAH 3 is found to be smaller and contain fewer cells in women compared to men. Gay men showed size and levels higher than women but less than men. • 7. The Management Philosophy of Gemba Kaizen Essay Introduction Masaaki Imai, author of Gemba Kaizen, states that companies, particularly in manufacturing field, can become more profitable by continuously looking for efficiencies. In Western style management it is more common to seek huge leaps. In Japanese style Kaizen businesses must try to eliminate anything that is inefficient thus cutting waste. Imai gives impressive examples from real world situations and supports them with case studies that show Kaizen in work. Discussion 1) The theme. Gemba Kaizen is divided into two major parts. The first part is well organized and deeply explained, very easy to read and understand overview of lean management concepts. Author has done a great job of reviewing the key concepts of ... Gemba is where the customers come into contact with the services offered. Gemba is present in the workplace of every company whether it is administrative or bank worker. The problem with modern western managers is that they prefer to sit at there desks with the desire to distance themselves from real events. They contact with reality only through their reports. (Masaaki, Imai: Gemba Kaizen. Mc Graw Hill, 1997, p. 3 5). Gemba means the real place or the place where value is added. In manufacturing it is the shop floor. It is the centre of what is right and what is wrong with all plant processes. Practicing of kaizen (improvement) in Gemba may improve not only the plant performance, but also the delivery system as well. Constantly improving the work place where actual production is done will increase the quality of products and thus the way they are delivered to customers. Going to Gemba provides real information, not the one manager sees in the reports. 4) Kaizen and Lean Management. In the context of Kaizen management has two major functions: (1) maintenance or activities directed toward maintaining ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They lived on the Great Plains in what is now South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, and Kansas. During the 1800 s, the U.S. government forced the Cheyennes to move to Oklahoma. Today, there are two Cheyenne tribes. The Southern Cheyennelive in Oklahoma while the Northern Cheyenne settle in Montana. The Cheyenne had an interesting culture and way of life. Boys were taught how to hunt, fish, and fight from their fathers. Girls learned how to cook, clean, and do chores around the house. Also, the children went to school and played with dolls, toys, and games. For example, the Cheyenne kids enjoyed playing the hoop game and lacrosse. A Cheyenne woman was responsible for building her family s house. She dragged heavy posts with her whenever the tribe moved. Later on, the Cheyenne Indians killed buffalo so they could use buffalo hide to make teepees. They lived in teepees because it was easy to set up and take down. As a result of moving frequently, a teepee allowed the Cheyenne tribe to move within an hour. The Cheyenne women harvested corn, squash, and beans while the men hunted deer and buffalo. Also, they ate fish, fruit, and berries. For clothing, the Cheyenne women wore long deerskin dresses that were decorated with porcupine quills, shells, and elk teeth. Cheyenne men wore breechcloths with leather leggings in colder climates. Men wore moccasins while the women wore high fringed boots. Chief leaders had tall feather headdresses and long warbonnets. The hair style for men was long braids with a topknot and women wore their hair loose or braided. The Cheyennes painted their faces for war, religious ceremonies, and feasts. Lastly, the Cheyenne people were very religious. They performed an elaborate Sun Dance, smoked peace pipes, built ceremonial houses, and four arrows represented their sacred object. The tribal government of the Cheyenne Indians was called the Council of Forty Four. It was formed by ten bands of the tribe. The council was made up of four chiefs from each band as well as four Old Man chiefs. Each chief served a ten year term. Every summer, the Council of Forty Four made decisions ... • 13. Australian Tax Reform Debt, Death Taxes 16th October 2002 Robert Camilleri The Conservative government doctrine is essentially defined as the party of tax relief. But now conservatives have converted themselves into the party of debt retirement. The conservative government has lost interest in tax cutting and instead wants to devote the surplus tax payments and asset sales over the next 3 years to paying down the national debt. The Howard Costello government, seen as militant debt hawks, has announced their goal is to retire the entire national debt by 2005. Tax reform is the smarter strategy rather than reducing the debt burden and it will grow the GDP faster. A dollar devoted to reducing marginal tax rates or to reducing the tax penalty against saving and investment will yield a higher return to the Australian economy, and thus to future generations, than a dollar used for retiring debt But even if we suspend our disbelief and assume that every surplus penny was used to buy down debt, the economic benefit would be trivial. The primary argument in favour of debt reduction is that it will relieve the burden from our children of having to pay off the debt in the future. But as long as we don t add to the debt over the next decade through a return to deficit spending, the debt burden on the next generation will fall automatically. It already is happening. Even without a penny of actual debt retirement, the debt as a share of GDP will fall from 15% of GDP in the early 1990s, using the current debt levels, to about 8% of GDP now. In ... The unknown compounds, Acid 2 and Alcohol D, were identified by using the knowledge of the reaction that took place, and the identity of the product that was synthesized. The identification of the product resulted from analysis of IR and NMR spectra. For this experiment, Alcohol D and Acid 2 reacted in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid, resulting in a colorless solution with brown layer on top. After washes with sodium bicarbonate and brine, the pale yellow liquid product was dried and then distilled. Distillation resulted in two colorless fractions, the second of which had a boiling point of 69 70 ЛљC. This boiling point is unrealistic for any compound obtained in this experiment, so it was not used in identifying the product. After distillation, both fractions were spectroscopically analyzed. The IR and NMR spectra obtained for both fraction were identical, meaning both fractions contained exactly the same substance. Both fractions also smelled the same, like piГ±a colada, therefore confirming this conclusion. This outcome also meant that the amount of product synthesized was 5.7393 g. For the identification of the product, IR, 13C NMR and 1H NMR spectra were examined, and the product was found to be butyl propionate. In the IR spectrum, RM 11 Bi, five key peaks are observed. They found that in general well being, openness to experience, altruism, honesty humility, and agreeableness, there was little no significant difference between submissives and dominants. In class my professor said that many years ago, the big part of the world were collectivistic, people cared more about each other and they were more family oriented. Currently, both cultures individualistic and collectivistic are so distinct. One is family oriented, and the other is self oriented. Looking closer, individualistic people are obviously humandoing because they are always busy trying to figure out what the future holds for them. They work tirelessly to achieve their goals which also take all time. In collectivistic culturealso, people are no longer different from individualistic when it comes to time orientation. It is becoming more common that young people are leaving their family house early than it used to be for different reasons, education or work. The microsystem, which contains the child s most immediate environment (Greene, 1999), includes the family, school, peers and youth programs; each functioning simultaneously as an independent whole, and as a part of a larger system (Zaastrow Kirst Ashmas, 2009). Mesosystem, consists of processes occurring between the child s distinctive microsystems (Greene, 1999). Exosystem involves processes occurring between two or more systems, one of which is not directly linked to the developing person (Greene, 1999). Yoshikawa, Aber and Beardslee (2012), explain how poverty is a family affair; the parents resources directly determine children s access to resources and their social standing. As mentioned in Yoshikawa et.,al (2012), lack of proper resources limits the family s ability to purchase goods, schooling, food, and housing, and provide a safe environment for necessary development. The linkage between family and school is an example of a mesosystem. Moreover unstable work, an exosystem component, leads to depressed parental mood and marital conflict, the consequences of which are higher levels of behavioral problems in children, parenting stress and a lack of effective caregiving (Yoshikawa et., al, 2012). With healthy children physical activity and exercise is key, and there are many forms of it, such as sports, physical education, and rough and tumble play. A dominance hierarchy is established through rough and tumble play. Through this activity, it becomes clear who is the stronger child, which is a way in which nature helps define who is the leader in a group friends, and who would win, should a conflict arise. Rough and tumble play is common in school recesses, where children are developing cognitively. If a child has been to preschool before, chances are, they ll be ahead of the curve a bit when learning to solve problems, and learning how to read and write. This is another major way in which nurture has its effects on a child s outcome in development. • 33. Critical Reflection On Ethics Critical Reflection All three authors take a slightly different approach in explaining ethics with the analogies used, but they are not that different at their core. Bonhoeffer (1995) describes a religious approach that compares and contrasts the relationship with Jesus Christ and the influence on the ethical choices of an individual. Palmer (2004), on the other hand, explains ethics using the wilderness and social headliners to illustrate the current divide that exists. Finally, Borgmann (2006) uses a political description of compromises for infrastructure that shapes the ethical views of the society such as the Interstate Highway System that influenced future choices that now have consequences that need to be managed. While the analogies are different, the root descriptions encompass a basic principle that the conduct of an individual will determine the true ethical character of that person, but the individual requires the support and direction from the society to truly influence a positive ethical change. The expanse of that society is where the authors begin to divide with Bonhoeffer s (1995) intended audience being countries based on Christian beliefs of the west, Borgmann (2006) concentrating on the United States, and Palmer (2004) focusing on the individual within a specified community that feeds to larger communities. He invented the first photovoltaic cell. Since then his studies and works have been perfected on and continue to change the world in which we live for the better. Photovoltaic cells have constantly been evolving ever since. In 1883, Charles Fritts built the first solid state photovoltaic cell using materials such as gold and selenium. With further advances to the system, scientist were able to recreate the cell in a way that could serve as an alternative power source on the satellite named Vanguard that was flown into space in the year of 1958. In the 1970 s there was an oil crisis when Middle Eastern countries proclaimed a trading ban, encouraging oil companies to buy solar firms. Funded research allowed for first, second and third generation cells to be constructed. Currently, the cost of solar energyhas exponentially decreased with the falling price of silicon, allowing for many new innovations to take place. Thin solar film is a second generation cell that is being commercially used. Transpiration pulls water up the plant stem but osmosis is the process whereby water is drawn into or out of cells and tissues. Osmosis is the flow of water by diffusion through a differentially permeable membrane from areas of high water concentration to regions of low water concentration. The diagram below illustrates this: Water can freely penetrate all membrane. The cellulose cell wall does not act as a semi permeable membrane and will allow most substances that are dissolved in water to freely pass through it. Whether water enters the cell by osmosis or not will depend on the balance between external and internal solute concentrations and the state of the cell. If the solutions on each side of the differentially permeable membrane are equally concentrated then there will be no net movement of water across the membrane. This is called an equilibrium state and the solutions are referred to as being isotonic. A solution that contains more solute particles than another, and is hence more concentrated, is referred to as being hypertonic. The less concentrated solution is hypotonic. This concentration of solute particles is usually described as a molarity. Even if the solute concentration external to the cell is hypotonic to the vacuole contents the cell will not continue to take in water by osmosis for ever. The cellulose cell wall provides a rigid barrier to uncontrolled expansion. A cell that is full of water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Rise of Warriors Essay A change in governance structure can take place due to any variety of causes. While it is well known that Japan was governed for centuries by the warrior class, it is not always known why. The samurai rose to power over a long period of time. Following their eventual rise to the top of the Japanese social ladder, they spent centuries consolidating their new power. There were a number of factors that lead to the rise of the warrior class in the late Heian period, continuing until their the Meiji Restoration. The samurai were able to rise to power for a number of reasons, including the leadership and actions of notable warrior class families: the Taira, Minamoto and Hojo. Another factor leading to the rise of the warriors was the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Taira, however, stood out above the Minamoto by having a more favourable position with the Emperors. The growing rivalry between the two families lead to an increasing tension between the two. Despite both working for the Emperor, it was understood that if a war broke out: one of these two clans were to defeat the other, there would be nothing but tradition to stop the victor from taking over all government authority, 3. This is, of course, what occurred during the Genpei War. The Minamoto family, too, had a significant role in the growth of the samurai. After the defeat of the Taira clanin the Genpei war, the Minamoto family, under its leader Yoritomo, founded the first warrior government4. Their political rivals defeated, the Minamoto were in a position from which they could shape their country; this was further justified by Prince Mochihito who gave them legal authority5. The government the Kamakura shogunate that was created under the early rule of the Minamoto was based on a confederation of Eastern warriors, 6. In doing this, the Minamoto family united the warrior class in some of the most developed parts of the country. Simultaneously, they brought the warrior class to the forefront of authority and power in Japanese society. The importance of the Taira family in the rise of the warrior class is somewhat limited, but absolutely necessary nonetheless. In order for the Minamoto to take control of the government, they ... • 42. Inmate Care Problem Medical problems do not magically disappear once someone has been incarcerated. If anything, I believe they are more prevalent within corrections. I say that because the first thing said from many people I arrest is, I need to see a doctor and get my medications. I have even arrested people who openly told me the reason they broke the law is so they could get free medical attention, such as surgery or dental work. This not only hurts the budget of a jail or prison, but also the pockets of taxpayers. According to York, Inmate health care costs are on the rise. This is not surprising knowing that a great percentage of the inmate population is involved in a risky life of drugs, drinking, unprotected sex and improper health habits. The cost of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When looking at medical problems reported, females were more probable to report a medical problem versus male inmates. In addition, females are more likely to report two or more medical problems versus male inmates. I can relate to this first hand, because many women I have arrested stated that they were pregnant or they have back issues. Even though prior to coming to jail, they were drinking, taking drugs, and failed to mention they were pregnant or had back issues. This report also showed as the age of the inmate increases so does the likelihood of a medical problem being reported. In addition, hearing and visions reports also increase with age. Leaning, speech, hearing, vision, mobility, and mental impairment are the six impairments that are reported by inmates. Both male and female inmates were equal in reporting of having at least one of the six impairments. When it comes to mental impairment, females were more likely to report than males. Injuries will occur within prisons, whether accidental or because of fighting. The report shows that both state and federal inmates are more likely to report accidental injuries versus fight related ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At Grinnell College, being a small private liberal arts university creates a culture of creating a well rounded student. The focus is in shaping a student s educations in all the areas of study for them to be well equipped for the ever changing workforce. It also states that they seek a well diverse student and faculty body with different cultural backgrounds. The University of South Carolina is a larger public university and one of their main goals for students is for them to be active in their community. Their main goal is to provide their students with a flexible form of education. Providing student with a quick and affordable education is their main priority. In the other hand, University of Phoenix is a for profit institution and creates a different culture. Part of their mission is, To generate the financial resources necessary to support the University s mission . Their mission statement of providing students with the best education is superficial. In reality, based on the current issues that for profit institutions are facing, their main goal is creating a profit. I have always liked the structure of liberal arts colleges, because of their main objective of shaping a student s education in all areas of study. Grinnel College type of education is the most appealing to me, as it provides students with a well rounded education. I assisted student s through the admissions process to private liberal arts colleges and something that makes their type of learning ideal is the flexibility of their degrees. Students are given the option of even creating their own degree, by blending different areas of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Commodity Fetish Analysis As I sit here typing away on my new Mac book air that I purchased for no apparent reason I can only feel nauseated, first I did not need it because my other laptop was working fine, and secondly, I barely had the money to purchase it. Yet, I did, so do I have a fetish with the latest in tech? After researching this topic, it looks to me that our society also has a fetish, and as Marx put it, it s a commodity fetish . In our capitalist society it is something that impacts us on multiple levels from competition to selfish needs, it is in our human nature to have the latest in commodities. Commodity Fetish s are the relationship between an individual and the production and the consumption of goods. Marx explains that capitalism is a product... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
