Battle Of Gettysburg Pennsylvania Essay
The Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania was a major battle of the American Civil War. The Battle
of Gettysburg was fought from July 1 to July 3, 1863 and is studied to be the most important
commitment of the American Civil War. A hamlet, whose claim to fame was the convergence of
several Pennsylvania roads, was about to become the most recognized battle site in the entire world.
The Battle of Gettysburgwas one of the turning points in the War Between the States. This battle
was very tragic and had an impact on a lot of folk s lives. There were many confederate and union
soldiers that fought in the Battle of Gettysburg and many lives were put at risk. The southern states
wanted to break away from the northern states but the north did not want them to. Robert E. Lee, a
Confederate general, is widely respected for being a Civil War commander. Robert E. Lee s Army

Lee wanted to push the north into Union territory to relieve pressure on Virginia. In the back of
Lee s head he knew that the success in Union territory would put pressure on President Lincoln
to end the war. After a great victory over Union forces at Chancellorsville, General Robert E. Lee
marched his Army of Northern Virginia into Pennsylvania in late June 1863. We can see that Lee
was determined to push his troops to try and get the victory. Pennsylvania changed forever after
two armies clashed on the streets and fields. On July 1, the Confederates clashed with the Union s
Army of the Potomac, commanded by General George G. Meade, at the crossroads town of
Gettysburg. As reported by the history channel of A E Television Networks with his army in high
spirits, Lee intended to collect supplies in the abundant Pennsylvania farmland and take the fighting
away from war ravaged Virginia. The total men on both the union and confederate side were

Photography And The Invention Of Photography
Approaching the turn of the twentieth century, photography was used mainly scientifically, to
gather data and make observations. Aside from some independent portrait work, the camera was not
considered a highly artistic instrument. Cameras were barely given a second look in aristocratic
artistic circles. The idea that photographycould not be art met challenges in Britain by the Pictorial
movement, the vision of photography similar in subject to impressionist paintings that aimed to
make viewers emotional. This movement took a heavy foothold at a time when cameras were just
entering the consumer market; later making it s way across the pond to America. It is evident when
comparing the work of Gertrude Kasebier, who photographed in the... Show more content on

On the other hand Edward Weston transformed simple objects like shells, leaves, and rocks with
heavy shadows and sharp contrast, making intriguing interest (Szarkowski). Both wall worthy
artists became so effective at making attractive photographs, they earned inspiring expositions at
notable institutions. They helped spur the interest of the general public to view photographs as art
and the camera as an instrument of pleasure rather than one of work. The look of a photograph
during the time was different than anything that came before, and their styles show even in today s
photographs. Especially the work of Weston does not appear outdated . It complements modern
tastes as well.
Separating Pictorialist Photography for other photographic forms is its emphasis on emotion. A
point was made so audiences would feel connected to the still frames. If a painting could make a
old woman reflect on the happy times in her life or bring out despair in a man who had lost a
child, why couldn t a photograph do the same? To accomplish this, Käsebier pioneered women
and domestic urban situations to evoke emotions in a wide range from lust and pleasure to
frustration and disgust, a particularly marveling feat ( Gertrude Käsebier ). Later, Weston used
increasingly abstract scenes, frequenting landscapes to paint emotions (Szarkowski). The fact that

How Carbon Is The Most Abundant Element
Carbon is the 15th most abundant element in the Earth s crust and is the 4th most abundant
element by mass in the universe. It is found in a large majority of organic material on Earth and
its ability to bond in many different ways allows for a large diversity of organic compounds. These
organic compounds that are formed in different shapes and structures are called allotropes. Carbonis
a special element that is the base for almost all organic compounds and since it can form many
allotropes of itself, and its allotropes have many different uses that can be applied to modern
science. The most common allotropes of carbon are: diamonds, amorphous carbon, graphite,
nanotubes, and fullerenes. Some of these allotropes have already made big... Show more content on

Diamond is one of the most commonly known carbon allotropes. One of the properties that it is
known for is how hard it is. It is a natural material with the highest reading on the Vickers and
Mohs scale. Diamond also has a very high thermal conductivity. The reason it has these
properties is mainly due how the atoms are structured. This structure is a varied version of a face
centered cubic and is called a diamond lattice. These two properties are what diamonds are used
for in major industrial application. Since diamonds are always decaying to graphite, the properties
vary depending on the perfection of the crystal lattice and its orientation. Diamonds have other less
important properties when it comes to being used in industry. The difference in colours of
diamonds, depends on impurities in the crystal lattice structure that alters the wavelength of light
that is absorbed. They also have, luster, fluorescence, optical absorption, electrical properties,
thermal conductivity, and thermal stability. Diamonds are known for being used as jewelry,
however the majority of mined diamonds are used for industrial purposes. Since diamonds are
super hard, they can be put into drill bits in order to cut other really hard materials. They can cut
other softer gemstones into a symmetrical or more beautiful shape so they can be sold. Diamonds
are used to conduct heat, they are used to coat microchips to conduct electricity, and they are used

My Reflection Of My Experience In The Courtroom
For me, attending the Lindsey Flanigan Courthouse was the first experience I ve had in a
physical court room. From the moment I arrived, I felt fairly overwhelmed with so many court
rooms and cases being heard that day. I decided to go to the fifth floor, where felony cases were
being heard, and I thought it would be fairly exciting getting to hear felonycases compared to
misdemeanors. My expectations before going were mostly based on shows such as Law and
Order, in which the whole hour is spent hearing one specific case. But in reality, the proceedings
were far different from what I expected. When I arrived in the court room, the case of People v.
Larry Sanchez was being discussed. Mr. Sanchez, was not only in handcuffs, but also wearing a
correctional facilities green jumpsuit. Those simple facts led me to expect a lot of action, but after
a few minutes I noticed that it was simply an arraignment in which the judgeaccepted the defendant
s petition for pleabargain. I thought it was very interesting observing the side of the defendant,
since the defense attorneys were public defenders. Seeing them have a different client every few
minutes and having to know everything about their respective cases was very impressive.
Meanwhile, representing the people on the side of the prosecution for every case were two
attorneys. Neither of the attorneys seemed to do much beside state the facts of each case against
the defendants. The judge seemed to do a very good job and one quote

Interpretive Planning Paper
Interpretive planning is a process that identifies and describes significant visitor experiences in
site such as a park, forest, zoo or other resource based recreation area; and recommends ways to
provide, encourage, sustain, facilitate or otherwise assist those experiences (Harpers Ferry Center,
1998); thus, interpretive planning teams seek to answer many questions concerning interpretive
planning such as: who, what, why, where, when, and how (Veverka Jone A., 1994; Harpers Ferry

is this area set aside and made accessible to the public? What is the positioning of the tourism

On A Rainy River Summary
In our society, we all long for a feeling of acceptance by our peers and we detest the feeling of
being left on the outside. The opinions of our peers have an impact our decisions. The short
story, On a Rainy River by Tim O brien elaborates the idea that the approval of our communities
is often put upon a higher pedestal than our own personal beliefs and values. This idea is
portrayed through the different pressures that the main character encountered: his family, his
town and his country. Fresh out of university, Tim was forced to make one of the biggest
decisions of his life. He was drafted to war, but did he was against serving in the war and he did not
want to go to war. Tim was at a crossroads between his personal values and the values of his

Joint Venture
The globalization strategy our team is going to explore for Moonglow is Joint venture. We are
going to discuss the pros and cons to a joint venture along with some environmental factors that
Moonglow needs to consider before deciding on a location. We are also going to explore different
organization structures and give a recommendation on how to restructure Moonglow to succeed in
the global market. Lastly, we will describe ways Moonglow can expand internationally while
maintaining its eco friendly practices and continue producing organic products.

Moonglow s joint venture alleviates this limited knowledge. Our host nation partner is already
accustomed to doing business in their country and already has the knowledge of the regulatory
laws. Along with regulatory laws there are legal restrictions that prohibit certain resources to
foreign businesses. Joint ventures make it easy to bypass these restrictions and allow us access to
raw materials we may not normally have (Hall, 1984).
Along with the benefits of knowledge and resources, local governments favor collaborating with
businesses in their country. Many foreign governments offer special incentives to outside countries
if they enter into joint ventures. They see this as a way to bring employment, new technology and
skills to their local people (Hall, 1984). This is a win win for everyone.
Just as there are pros to joint ventures, there are also cons. The cons to entering into a joint venture
are flexibility, technology transferred, employees, and loyalty to the U.S. partners (Hall, 1984).
Moonglow may have limited flexibility when operating on foreign soil. Depending on the
breakdown of ownership, depends on the flexibility Moonglow will have. That is why it is
important to have everyone s roles spelled out. Many foreign countries do not have the paten
controls that we do in the U.S. Any technology that Moonglow brings into the joint venture has the

High fat diets and western eating habits were restricted to rich industrialised nations with higher
Gross National Product levels (GNP). The consumption of animal products high in fat and protein
had been a measure of prosperity and higher social status, such as milk, butter and meat. Now, high
fat diets and western eating habits are occurring in nations with much lower Gross National

It enables a greater variety and quantity of agricultural goods to be traded on the global market.
Moreover, this liberalization gives the freedom to global investors to make foreign investments into
other countries. Some of these foreign investments include transnational food companies (TFCs),
including large supermarkets (Hawkes, 2006). In consequence, a greater level of international
flow of goods and services and capital result from this market and policy liberalization. A notable
agreement was the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT)
agreement on agriculture. It bound countries to reduce tariffs, export subsidies and domestic
agricultural support. Overall, other bilateral agreements that have taken place over the last 30
years have allowed policy shifts to establish a more liberal global agricultural marketplace. This
has also encouraged the growth of TFCs, easily creating a global network of food import/export for
cheaper prices, changing the supply of foods (Hawkes, 2006). How does this affect the nutrition
transition? With this increase in liberalisation of markets, there is a significant change of food
distribution and access that has particularly affected countries undergoing development. Generally,
foods that are more energy dense with less nutrients are more readily available, particularly from
TFCs and greater supermarket access, making the nutrition

How Did Farmers Live In The Great Plains
In 1862 the Homestead Act was passed. The government was offering 160 acres in the plains, for
very little money. Many farmers in the east could not afford land to farm in their area so they
took the deal. This deal meant that if the farmers could successfully farm their land in the plains
for 5 years, that farmer would own it. Many couldn t pass it up and moved their families to the
Great Plainsarea. They built homes and began their new lives. Some lives in wooden shack like
houses while others lived in what were called dugouts. These were literally homes dug into the
land. Within 50 years approximately 300,000 people populated the Great Plains.

Birth Control Is The Practice Of Preventing Unwanted...
Imagine you ran out of your favorite toothpaste but instead of just running to the nearest drug store
you have to call your doctor s office, set an appointment, receive a prescription then go to the
pharmacy to have it filled just to get a new tube of toothpaste. Obviously people do not have to go
through this process just to get toothpaste but they do in fact have to go through this process to
obtain birth controlpills. According to merriam webster.com, birth control is the practice of
preventing unwanted pregnancies; it used all around the world. There are many different
contraceptive types that people use to prevent unwanted pregnancies, including, but not limited
to, condoms, vaginal rings, sponges, implants, shots, abstinence, and birth control pills.
Practicing safe sex should be ready option for all people. Men wear condoms while women take
birth control; it is as simple as that. However, why is it that anyone can buy condoms, but in
order for a woman to get birth control, she must have a prescription? This paper will explain the
health benefits of birth control, discuss the consequences of not having direct access to the pill,
and the effects of making birth control more accessible. Over the counter access to the pill could
be a game changer for public health, eliminating an unnecessary barrier to a highly effective form
of birth control. The benefits of providing birth control pills over the counter far outweigh the risks

Evaluation Of A Quantitative Correlational Research Design
Methodology
Design Overview
A quantitative correlational research design was used to measure the effect that living situations
/familial support has on student s GPAs. An online survey (Appendix 2) was used to collect data on
independent and dependent variables. The independent variables included living situation (e.g.
living with parents, spouse/significant other, spouse and kids, friends/roommates, alone, or with
grandparents), support systems available to the students in the DSN program, interruptions that
were experienced by the students, the students preferred location to study, and how many hours a
week was spent studying. The independent variables were factors that were considered to have a
possible effect on GPA. The primary dependent variable was GPA; though how many hours a week
spent studying was also used as a dependent variable against the independent variable of familial
support.
Sample and Testing
An online survey consisting of ten questions was sent out to all students enrolled at DSN. A total
of 638 students were invited to participate in the study. Students from the DSN Bachelor of
Science in Nursing (BSN) completion program, BSN first degree program, Associate Degree of
Nursing (AND) program, and Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN) to ADN program participated in
the survey resulting in a total sample size of 100 students.

Life Has Learned In My Life
At the age of six I had not given much thought about life and death, but this day changed that. As a
baby, I cannot imagine all the things I did that put myself in danger. I was completely unaware of
the consequences of my actions. As a child, I was playful, innocent, and cheerful. Throughout my
years of growing up I have learned many lessons through life. Only a few events happened before
this one that I can remember. On my 6th birthday, life could have been lost, and from that I learned
to always be careful and that life can change in an instant. First, I woke up Saturday afternoon.
Since it was Saturday, I slept longer than usual. Today was the day chosen to celebrate my
birthday, which was actually a few days before. It was my 6th birthday party. My parents and I
decided that the party would take place at our home. We invited all our neighbors and friends. I
was young, energetic, and ready to enjoy life. Next, I got out of my Rugrats sheet covered bed. I
headed down the narrow and white hallway to the living room. I greeted my parents and had a
small breakfast. I ate scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast. After eating I asked my parents if I
could ride my bike with friends before coming back home. My parents agreed that was ok. I
went into the garage to get my blue, new, Mongoose bicycle. My bicycle was a gift from my
parents, which I received on my birthday. After returning home from bike riding, I got an hour of
rest before the party was ready to begin. I exited

Solvency Ratios Analysis
The quick ratio for Exxon in 2010 and 2011 are 0.64 times, which falls between the median and
lower range of the industry averages on the D B chart for both years. This shows that

The Theological Concept Of The Divine Mother Essay
Debates on the theological concept of the Divine Mother
The 20th century feminist criticism of the systems of re presentation have attempted to expose the
system of power that authorises certain representations while blocking, prohibiting, or invalidating
others .83 Corrington further evaluates that if this is true for modes of expressing concepts in
general, it is even more true for modes of expressing religious concepts .84
Moreover, summarising Ochshorn s argument for the expression of such concepts in monotheistic
religions, Corrington states that the limitation of a deity to a single dynamic personality entailed
the assignment to that persona of a gender that was perceived as the least limited in its socio
biological role .85
Such expression is seen in early Christianity, when Jesus as the incarnation of God has become a
crucial model for the saviour of the human race.86 In the work of Ruether who argues for
misappropriation of the saviour figure in the early Christian thought, the discussion on such
gender limitation takes the most dramatic turn: Who is this saviour, and from what does he save
us? This saviour of men comes to free men from birth, from women, from earth, and from limits.
This saviour can only come in the image of the male. As God can only be imaged as male, as the
male is the proper image of God, so the saviour too must be male.... .87
The key to understanding this tension lies in understanding of both the aforementioned expression of

Encryption And The Security Of A Message

Encryption
Encryption is a way to enhance the security of a message or file by scrambling the contents so that
it can be read only by someone who has the right encryption key to unscramble it (Microsoft).
Encryption uses an algorithm to change plain text data to cipher text. It played a very important role
in wars and in military circles to protect top secret information from foreign countries.
There are two types of encryption symmetric key and asymmetric key encryption. Symmetric is
faster than asymmetric at decrypting the data. Sometimes asymmetric and symmetric encryption
are used together. The symmetric key is encrypted using asymmetric encryption.
SYMMETRIC KEY ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
DES was one of the first symmetric encryption methods used by NSA dating back to the 1970s. It
used a 56 bit key and 8 bit parity. DES can easily be broken, which is why AES replaced it in 2001.
AES is stronger and faster than DES. It can use a variety of key lengths (128 , 192 , or 256 bit).
Other ciphers used with symmetric key encryption are Ron s Cipher v2 (RC2), Ron s Cipher v5
(RC5), International Data Encryption Algorithm (IDEA), Triple DES (3DES), Blowfish, Twofish,
and SkipJack.
ASYMMETRIC ENCRYPTION Asymmetric encryption (also known as public key encryption)
uses two different keys that are mathematically similar but distinctly different. One key for
encrypting (public key) and the other for decrypting (private key). The two keys together are
called a key pair. The strength of the secrecy and integrity lies in the private key. Asymmetric
encryption is usually used for smaller data, like the encryption of a symmetric key. Asymmetric
uses multiple different protocols, including, SSL/TLS, IPSec, VPNs, S/MIME, and SSH tunnels.
The most popular cipher used in asymmetric encryption is RSA (Rivest, Shamir, Adleman) created
in 1977 by Ron Rivest, Adi Shamir and Leonard Adleman. It is based on factoring large numbers
in their prime value (Wikipedia). RSA is the most secure. It ranges from 512 bits to 8,000 bits,
which is about 2,401 digits. Others

What would happen to society if all individuals were equal? Not in the sense of equal rights,

also penalizing society. New developments such as medical equipment, technology and new ways

and protect its citizens. However, projecting religion in the light of perfection is superficial. In
actuality, it often contains flaws underneath its idealistic teachings. The inadequacy in maintaining
the idealistic doctrines is deeply rooted in society. Such notion is reflected and commented upon in
the novels Dom
Casmurro by Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis and Chronicle of A Death
Foretold by Gabriel GarciВa Marquez. In both novels, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Religion as a burden is also evident in Chronicle of A Death Foretold in which the townspeople
honour the much disliked bishop solely out of respect to God. The bishop, on the other hand, sends
obligatory blessing without evincing a speck of inspiration as he makes the sign of cross
mechanically and without malice or inspiration (19). The townspeople greet the bishop in an
overwhelming manner, creating a strong contrast against the neglectful attitude of the bishop:
But the Bishop didn t stop and then the band of musicians started to play the bishop s anthem, and
the cocks began to crow in their baskets and aroused all the other roosters in town. (18) g
By staying on the boat, the bishop creates a physical distance that further advocates the barrier
between the people and the Church, and ultimately affects their religious devotions. These actions
of the bishop do not earn him respect as a person but only as an empty shell of authority, another
defect in the practical result of religious doctrines. Hence Placida Linero refers to him as the son of
the worst kind of mother (127).
Religion also becomes less a symbol of ultimate priority and spirituality amongst the younger
generation. Garcia Marquez discusses this notion using Santiago Nasar. Santiago engages religion
with entertainment rather than an inscrutable symbol of spiritual life:

The As A Night Creature
Firefly The stars were exceptionally bright as I strolled along one of the many paths that led into
the local park. The public gardens consisted of a small wooded area, lined with fragrant
flowerbeds, dotted with the occasional willow tree. Here one would find an oasis within an
urban sprawl. Trees bordered the natural area like a green palisade, keeping at bay the city s
chaos and neon lights. One might forget the city even existed. Only the park lights and the blinking
glow of fireflies cast any illumination at all. To a mortal, all was quiet. A mortal could not see the
night creatures making their nightly rounds. I, however, could. Being a night creature myself

Their signals created a lovely dance of alien starlight cast adrift in the inky night. I could smell
the summer flowers like a heady perfume, mixed with the scent of blood. I ignore the smell of
animals. Their blood, though sweet and thick, simply couldn t slack my thirst as the blood of
human could. There was also the thrill of the hunt, to stalk and subdue my victims. Blood was
my usual fare, but occasionally I feasted on flesh if my appetite called for it. Sometimes I would
drain my victims dry, with others I took a drink and finished their life in some other way. I
relished the skill of the hunter, practically gloried in my ability to kill. As I headed to the more
secluded end of the city park, I found her sitting on a blanket near a clearing. She was a young
thing, with honey blond hair, and pale skin that reflected the dimming sky. She sat on the
outstretched blanket in a clearing watching the night. Knees drew up against her chest, her legs
shrouded in a floral print dress. I caught the whiff of her scent like a bee to honey. As I
approached, I noticed she held a small penlight one might find on a keychain. Every minute or
so, she flashed the light two times. This was curious behavior. I paused in my advancement to
see the fireflies descend on her open hand. The insect explored her open palm until wing cases

Comparing Colonial And Revolutionary American Writers
Colonial and revolutionary American writers had quite a few differences, yet were quite similar
as well. The dominant interests of revolutionary writers were political and social, whereas the
interests of colonial writers were mainly religious and economic. Most of the colonial writers
such as John Smith mostly fled from religious persecution in Europe. For example, those aboard
the Mayflower had quite a number of pilgrims who had fled from England to Holland, seeking
religious freedom. These Pilgrims jumped at the chance to go to the New World, where they could
worship however they please. Revolutionary writers, like Benjamin Franklin, sought freedom from
tyranny: they focused on breaking free from English rule and taxes. They did not only

Cocolonizing Mars
In the process of colonizing Mars, there are some problems we face when it comes to water and
weather. Some obstacles are facile and are easy to overcome, but others are more laborious and

ice we know is not made up of water, but it consists of carbon dioxide. It also snows carbon

from Earthto Mars. This water can be used for drinking and any other necessary things.

Why Does A Movie Flop
Films are both considered an art and a form of entertainment. To make such great films, you need
an amazing director, wonderful cast and crew, and one hell of a budget. But then again if a movie
has all of these then why do some films tend to just not make it into the box office charts. Why
does a movie flopanyways? There are a lot of films that unfortunately just didn t make it and we
will be stating a few examples of them in just a few but let me just enlighten you as to why these
films tend to flop. One of the things that has to be considered is its competition.
If your film is directed by an Academy Award director with an Academy Award winning cast, but
the movie you are competing with did a great job at advertising their film especially on the social
media, your film might not make it. There are a lot of great films (technically) that flopped not
because it is an awful film but because the people just don t find it interesting enough. So here are
some films that didn t quite make it into the box office charts, some might surprise you.

it didn t quite make because it was way too over budget and it was completely unnecessary. It
wouldn t be considered a flop if the budget is less than $375 million because that just meant that
they need to make more than $600 million to be considered profitable for the studio. But
unfortunately, the film only made $260.5 million, which still a lot for a film but obviously Disney
didn t get enough money back, that is why it is considered as a

The Hopi are a Native American tribe with a long history that mainly live in the southwestern
United States. One of the most important parts of their culture is Kachinas. One of the ways that
the Hopi recognize their Kachinas is through dances. These Kachina dances are an important part
of the Hopi culture and still have a large impact on it today. The Hopiceremonies known as
Kachina dances are an almost constant part of their lifestyle. In contrast to most western holidays
the ceremonies go on for most of the year, almost like one continuous holiday, and every person in
the village participates. The most important dances are held at the same time every year, but there
are some that are held only when the village decides to have them. According... Show more content

All of them have a role in the dances. There are Guard Kachinas, Cloud Kachinas, Clown
Kachinas, and many different animal Kachinas. The Guard Kachinas guard dance ceremonies
with whips from people moving too close. The Cloud Kachina brings rain for crops and also
represents the clouds. Clown Kachinas perform a sort of cautionary humor. The Hopi find the
things they do funny, but the Clowns actions are seen as examples of what not to do. Clowns
are not all humor, however. They are a very important part of the dance ceremonies and are still
seen as sacred. The animal Kachinas all have different purposes, though many are able to control
the rain. The Road Runner protects the village from witchcraft and also can bring rain. The
White Wolf helps the people of the village get enough food for winter. The Ram s dance brings
more rams for the village to get food from, and he also can bring rain. The Deer s dance brings
deer to the village so that the village can eat. The Raven fights the Clowns, and warns people
against similar behavior. The Buffalo makes sure there is enough food through the winter for the

Analysis Of The Raft Of Medusa
What s so great about this artwork? How can a photo give a sense of emotion? This is all questions
the painting; the raft of medusa answers. Theodore Gericault uses smart angels and pigmentation of
different bland of colors to give different sense of emotion from just one painting.
The question as a novelist Julian Barnes asked, how do you turn catastrophe into art? to understand
this artwork, we must look back to the origin of the painting. The raft of the medusa was one of the
most important masterpieces of the 19th century. As it was one of the earliest well known
romantic painting. What makes it important is how the artist Theodore Gericault came to paint
such a confronting image but before I go on, there is a backstory to understand what motivated
him to pursue such a painting. Theodore Gericault came from a wealthy French family and
shows for his vocation in life to be an artist. He left France to gain some inspiration from Rome,
while away he missed all the news on the scandal of the event. The event which lead to the raft
of the medusa was the captain of the ship. Who was given the job of leading the ship not for his
skills but because of his royal connections as he was the king s representative. The captain was
more interested in impressing the soon to be governor of Senegal. The shipwreck would ve never
have happened if he did not try to impress the governor. The captain pushed the crew to move to
fast and along the shore. Bad idea as the medusa ran ashore on a

Sandwich Bikes
In the world of home exercise equipment, few pieces have been around as long as the exercise
bike. Although exercise bikes (fitness bikes, studio bikes) received a bad rap for a number of
years, being used as clothes hangers, etc., the new versions are sleek, silent, and easy to use.
There are two basic types of bikes, the upright and the recumbent. An upright is what most people
think of when they think of fitness bikes. The upright is closest to a regular bike, narrow saddle,
pedals below the rider, handle bars out front. On the other hand, a recumbent exercise bike has a
wider seat with a small back support. The pedals are out front, and the rider is in a reclined
position. Both bikes have good and bad points as we shall see.
The traditional setup of an upright bike allows the rider to more closely simulate an actual bike
ride than possible with a recumbent. The rider is able to stand, assume a race crouch, or a
neutral position. Trouble is, if the rider has any sort of back problems, especially lower back, an
upright can irritate the condition leading to worse problems. An upright is more difficult to get
on and off of because of a higher proximity to the ground. This can be problematic for older or
overweight people. An upright takes up less room than a recumbent. You may want to keep this in
mind if your exercise area is on the small side. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Crowd Psychology
The question that I intend to study is: How do shy people react in a crowd? (do they become
aggressive/ assertive as per mob psychology, or shrink as per their personality)? There are
various theories regarding the mode of behavior in a crowd. Some, such as Freud, posit that
people behavior changes in a crowd and they become more restless and less individualistic. Mob
theory, in fact, is born form this which asserts that crowds are the source of volatile conduct where
diverse people gang together for a particular cause. Minds merge and each person s enthusiasm
becomes increased as a result. On the other hand, you have the Convergence theory that posits that
the cause is born beforehand and that people join the crowd in order to put their cause into practice.
The crowd, in other words, enables them to accomplish their objective and it makes them more
enthusiastic and entrenched in their mission. Social psychologists leBon (1895) and Zimbardo
(1969) see the crowd as an instigator of individuation. Stimuli such as mergence into a larger whole,
the rush of the environment, the pressure of the crowd, the sensory overload and so forth blur
mental input and causes a deindivdualistic individual to appear. One thing that is remarkable about
all of these theories is that they tend to generalize assuming categorical behavior to all individuals
and providing the aspect of crowd with anthropomorphic qualities. Indeed, Schweingruber and
Wohlstein (PsyBlog.com) point out that crowd

A Comforting View of Death in William Cullen Bryant’s...
Chuck Palahniuk once said, The first step to eternal life, is you have to die. In William Cullen
Bryant s poem Thanatopsis , he does not mention eternal life or anything religious, but speaks about
death. He tells his readers that death is a natural thing and they should not worry about it. William
Cullen Bryant, in his poem Thanatopsis, portrays a comforting view of death. Throughout the poem,
Bryant encourages his readers by explaining that in death they are not alone, that death, like life, is
a natural process, and that they will be among some of the finest people who walked the earth.

In addition to Bryant s portrayal of death as comforting, he also depicts it as a part of nature.
Bryant explains that death, like life, is a part of nature, which was a loved and cherished aspect
of the nineteenth century. In the period of Romanticism, nature was an important ideal; it was
viewed as the source for everything. In Thanatopsis , Bryant uses nature as a comfort zone,
saying that when one dies, they will become a part of nature. He says that the bodies will be
used to nurture the earth. Bryant also mentions that we once were made as a part of nature and
that people will die as a part of it as well. He states: ...and lost each human trace, surrending up
thine individual being shalt thou go to mix forever with the elements. Bryant is saying that
bodies will decay and eventually become one with the earth and nature. Along with becoming a
part of nature, Bryant explains that the deceased people will be with some of the finest people
who walked the earth. In order to make his readers feel ultimately comfortable, Bryant also says
that when everyone dies, they will be with some of the finest people who walked the earth. By the
expression finest people , Bryant means all the important figures and contributors in history. He
says that people will be resting in the same place as these figures are: in the earth. He uses this to

A major strength of this assessment is that this assessment has a Nonverbal Index. This is beneficial
for students who are not yet proficient in the English language or struggle with language.
Administering the Nonverbal Index allows the administrator to gain a better understanding of the
child s abilities because their language issues are not working against them with this test. Also, this
assessment has two theories of intelligence that can be tested: the Luria neurological processing

the Mental Processing Index of Learning Ability, Sequential Processing, Simultaneous Processing,

visuals throughout the test. A weakness of this assessment is the administrator will not be able to

Reasonable expectation of privacy is an issue dealing with the Fourth Amendment of the Coalesced

Truth And Lying In A Non Moral Sense Essay
Construction and human made structures are frequently featured throughout a number of texts
related to dreams. This commonly used theme of structure is more of a sense of reality. This theme
prevails itself in both Angela Carters The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman and the
reading Alice s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. This theme also illustrates itself in
Nietzsche s reading On Truth and Lying in an Amoral Sense which discusses the cathedral of
concepts and societal structure as a whole. These constructive and humanmade structures that have

Nietzsche believes that we all posses a creative, world building urge, but only a select few have
the ability and power to realize their dreams. Not only does Nietzsche maintain a strong belief in
how humans identify between the truth and a lie but he also argues that we categorize concepts
in our brain to find the truth. In On Truth and Lying in a Non Moral Sense Nietzsche describes
the hierarchical like society by admiring the world as a structure. Here one can certainly admire
humanity as a mighty architectural genius who succeeds in erecting the infinitely complicated
cathedral of concepts on moving foundations, or even, one might say, on flowing water;
admittedly, in order to rest on such foundations, it has to be like a thing constructed from

Is it better to cheat or to be cheated? Cheating is easy, comparing it to being cheated. In every
way, such as cheating on a test or in a relationship. In an exam, when cheating the cheater haves a
good chance of passing if the person who is actually taking the exam is smart. In case that they
do pass, the cheater does not really gain nothing in the long run just in that exam. The cheater is
still ignorant while the person who took the test gained and experience knowledge and passed
the test. The Knowledge will last long and this person will get in life further because this
individual will not cheat rough life. The cheater will do well as long as he cheats but will never

sounds better to cheat because of the benefits of the pleasure of having two lovers at once. The
cheater in the end will be a cheater and most likely end up alone and unhappy. On the other hand,
the person being cheated on will learn, suffer for a while, but eventually be happy because they

thirst for knowledge for so long? Paperhas served an ever changing world well, constantly adapting
and morphing into new and improved forms. Even in a world where consumers demand eco
friendly products, paper has adapted. Paper remains important and practical despite a growing
demand for their electronic counterparts.

We threw out scraps. By the time I moved on, everything was recycled. We even urged customers to
use paper that had at least 10% post consumer product. Although paper has been harmful to the
environment in the past, it has become the most recycled material in the country. This recyclable
product is a practical and eco friendly vehicle for conveying information.
Despite common belief, America s forests are not being destroyed to satisfy a large demand for
paper or any other wood product. According to the USDA Forest Inventory, the area of forest in
the United States has increased by 13 Million acres since 1987. Before 1987, the national forest
area had been declining since settlers landed in the new world.. During this extensive period,
forests were decimated and any business associated with forestry gained a stigma. This stigma
has carried on. The forest inventory data clearly shows a change in 1987. A nearly five century
trend was reversed. The reversal of deforestation has been attributed, in part, to paper mills and
other paper production facilities largely contributing to the roughly 1.8 million acres of trees
planted every year. The forests of America are growing once again. The sustainable practices
adopted by those who produce paper has helped to make it an even more practical and eco friendly
product despite a lingering stigma.
Paper lends an important role in fine motor skill development, a role that computer devices lack the

Essay On Controlled Substances Act
In 1970, the controlled substances act was passed to regulate the manufacture and distribution of
drugs whose use may result in dependency or abuse. Since the Act was passed anyone who has
access to Controlled substance is watch and monitored very carefully by the Drug Enforcement
Administration which is a branch of the department of justice, to regulate the use of these drugs.
This includes to prescribing, refilling, and storing the controlled substances. This law is in place
to control the distribution of these drugs legally and illegally. Doctors and medical assistants are
responsible for maintaining the controlled substances in the office, with that when a drug is
leaving an office it is critical to log the patients name, drug name, dose, date, ordering physician,
and employee who handled the procedure. With having this law in place the bureau of Narcotics
and Dangerous Drugs Established a Schedule to categorize these Controlled substances. Schedule I,
The high category of high risk drugs are not approved for medical use. These include heroin,
Marijuana, opium, peyote, mescaline, etc.. Schedule II, are the drugs with a high instance of abuse

I imagine if no one ever categorized the drugs as addictive then we would have a higher chance
to be exposed and prone to becoming addicted to these controlled substances. Now because of the
laws in place each and every controlled substance is monitored therefore I feel that we are safer
compared to not having to track these substances. I do believe that teaching student about this Act
is a better way for us to see the importance and what could have been if the power of the law was
not around, and to teach then that these drugs may be highly addictive and can ruin some

Unions And Collective Bargaining Rights
Union and collective bargaining rights are important for improvement as well as maintaining labor
conditions and employment relations and are most certainly essential in international labor. Unions
and collective bargaining rights are designed to promote and ensure our human rights are protected.
This certainly doesn t mean there aren t flaws in the system, however, the intention of unions and
collective bargaining is to safeguard workers, employers as well as the government to make it
harmonious.
Since the National Labor Relations Act was passed in 1935, unions have been in existence. The
main role is to safeguard workers rights, ensure safe work conditions and negotiate for the
employees through collective bargaining. Collective bargaining ... Show more content on

The two sides don t have to reach an agreement, but they always have to bargain in good faith.
Although, neither side is required to make a particular concession, a party that refuses to bend on
a single issue or to put any offer on the table might be acting in good faith. The National Labor
Relations Act forbids employers from interfering with, restraining, or coercing employees in the
exercise of rights relating to organizing, forming, joining or assisting a labor organization for
collective bargaining purposes, or from working together to improve terms and conditions of
employment, or refraining from any such activity. Similarly, labor organizations may not restrain or
coerce employees in the exercise of these rights. Primary examples of employer conduct that
violates the law are, but not limited to; threatening employees with loss of jobs or benefits if they
join or vote for a union or engage in protected concerted activity, threatening to close the plant if
employees select a union to represent them, questioning employees about their union sympathies or
activities in circumstances that tend to interfere with, restrain or coerce employees in the exercise
of their rights under the Act. Promising benefits to employees to discourage their union support.
Transferring, laying off, terminating, assigning employees more difficult work tasks, or otherwise
punishing employees because they engaged in union or protected concerted activity or have filed
unfair labor practice charges or participated in an investigation conducted by

Nickel and Dimed Argumentative Essay
Essay
In Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, Ehrenreich goes undercover as a low wage worker,
when she is really a reporter for New York Times. In Barbara s journey, it explains all of the
hardships workers have with low wage jobs and makes your think: Does the accumulation of
money and power inevitably lead to a loss of spirituality? Ehrenreich states that workers work
long and stressful hours for almost no pay whatsoever but many people believe that these certain
jobs are too easy and SHOULD receive the low wages that they re currently receiving. Do
companies that give their workers low wages for the accumulation of money and power inevitably
lead to a loss of their ethics and do it also lead to a loss of workers? I believe this ... Show more

Others also state that these jobs are not hard and can easily be done without getting drained of all
your energy, without working hard, or even without breaking a sweat, and that all they do is sit
around and flip burgers while taking people s orders.
More importantly, however, being able to go to college and get a good degree in a descent field is
very difficult if not impossible. The cost of living and studying at a typical private college can
add up to close to $45,000, multiply that by four to get your Bachelor s degree, and that s a
whopping $180,000, an incredible sum of money for the average American. So in the end, working
low wage job may be someone s only option due to the cost of college and being able to get a
better paying job. As for the argument where these jobs aren t tiring, try cleaning for 8 10 hours a
day, it wouldn t be easy. Most making the claim that these jobs are easy , are sitting down typing
on the computer all day, not knowing what the low wage workers do all day.
Low wage workers are working long and hard hours for almost no pay, which is absolutely
ridiculous. These workers dedicate everything in their lives, for $7.25 an hour. I believe their
lives are worth more than that. By saying all of this, I hope you understand that these workers are
getting ripped off and no one can or will do ANYTHING about

Crime And Punishment Religion
Religion has held a tremendous impact on history, from wars to crusades to revolutions, and the
faith stemmed from religion has helped humanity throughout the years. Fyodor Dostoyevsky, author
of Crime and Punishment, was a conservative Russian Orthodox Christian whose faith helped him
in his most trying times, such as during his imprisonment in Siberia. His beliefs on religion and
faith can be seen in his novelCrime and Punishment, a story where the main character, Raskolnikov,
commits a murder but eventually confesses and finds redemption through religion. In this
redemption Raskolnikov is, in a sense, resurrected, finding again the Lord and the hope for life. In
Crime and Punishment, Dostoyevsky utilizes biblical allusions to convey the... Show more content

and took away their money to drink. However, he does not believe that he deserves to be pitied, that

A Revision Of The Controlled Substances Act Essay
Considering a Revision of The Controlled Substances Act Drug abuse and misuse are prominent
problems in the United States, whether the issue is with trafficking, overdoses causing death, illegal
recreational use in adolescents, or even improper prescriptions by medical professionals leading to
physiological dependence. The formerly listed problems stem from outdated, yet current,
classification system of drugs in the Controlled Substances Act(CSA). The HeroinEpidemic is an
example of a problem concerning improper prescribing in medical practice; this issue began
when many medical professionals began to prescribe potent painkillers to their patients early in
their treatments. Over time and with consistent use, the patients grew to psychologically and
physiologically depend on the painkillers. Eventually, the prescribed painkillers became
unaffordable and patients began to depend on a cheaper drug with similar, yet more dangerous,
effects: heroin. As a result, many are addicted to heroin as compared to prescription drugs. There
is also an issue concerning qualified medical professionals that pill mill, meaning they prescribe
Schedule II drugs such as oxycodone with the sole purpose to make more money; this puts the
patient in danger in exchange for the doctor s personal benefit. As a student pursuing a career in the
medical field, I find that the proper implementation and use of medicine and drugs is vital to
providing quality health care, so that events like the heroin

The Battle of Gettysburg was fought from July 1 to July 3, 1863 and is studied to be the most important commitment of the American Civil War. A hamlet, whose claim to fame was the convergence of several Pennsylvania roads, was about to become the most recognized battle site in the entire world. The Battle of Gettysburgwas one of the turning points in the War Between the States. This battle was very tragic and had an impact on a lot of folk s lives. There were many confederate and union soldiers that fought in the Battle of Gettysburg and many lives were put at risk. In the back of Lee s head he knew that the success in Union territory would put pressure on President Lincoln to end the war. After a great victory over Union forces at Chancellorsville, General Robert E. Lee marched his Army of Northern Virginia into Pennsylvania in late June 1863. We can see that Lee was determined to push his troops to try and get the victory. Pennsylvania changed forever after two armies clashed on the streets and fields. On July 1, the Confederates clashed with the Union s Army of the Potomac, commanded by General George G. Meade, at the crossroads town of Gettysburg. As reported by the history channel of A E Television Networks with his army in high spirits, Lee intended to collect supplies in the abundant Pennsylvania farmland and take the fighting away from war ravaged Virginia. Aside from some independent portrait work, the camera was not considered a highly artistic instrument. Cameras were barely given a second look in aristocratic artistic circles. The idea that photographycould not be art met challenges in Britain by the Pictorial movement, the vision of photography similar in subject to impressionist paintings that aimed to make viewers emotional. This movement took a heavy foothold at a time when cameras were just entering the consumer market; later making it s way across the pond to America. On the other hand Edward Weston transformed simple objects like shells, leaves, and rocks with heavy shadows and sharp contrast, making intriguing interest (Szarkowski). Both wall worthy artists became so effective at making attractive photographs, they earned inspiring expositions at notable institutions. They helped spur the interest of the general public to view photographs as art and the camera as an instrument of pleasure rather than one of work. The look of a photograph during the time was different than anything that came before, and their styles show even in today s photographs. Especially the work of Weston does not appear outdated . It complements modern tastes as well. Separating Pictorialist Photography for other photographic forms is its emphasis on emotion. A point was made so audiences would feel connected to the still frames. If a painting could make a old woman reflect on the happy times in her life or bring out despair in a man who had lost a child, why couldn t a photograph do the same? To accomplish this, Käsebier pioneered women and domestic urban situations to evoke emotions in a wide range from lust and pleasure to frustration and disgust, a particularly marveling feat ( Gertrude Käsebier ). Later, Weston used increasingly abstract scenes, frequenting landscapes to paint emotions (Szarkowski). The fact that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is found in a large majority of organic material on Earth and its ability to bond in many different ways allows for a large diversity of organic compounds. These organic compounds that are formed in different shapes and structures are called allotropes. Carbonis a special element that is the base for almost all organic compounds and since it can form many allotropes of itself, and its allotropes have many different uses that can be applied to modern science. Diamond is one of the most commonly known carbon allotropes. One of the properties that it is known for is how hard it is. It is a natural material with the highest reading on the Vickers and Mohs scale. Diamond also has a very high thermal conductivity. The reason it has these properties is mainly due how the atoms are structured. This structure is a varied version of a face centered cubic and is called a diamond lattice. These two properties are what diamonds are used for in major industrial application. Since diamonds are always decaying to graphite, the properties vary depending on the perfection of the crystal lattice and its orientation. Diamonds have other less important properties when it comes to being used in industry. The difference in colours of diamonds, depends on impurities in the crystal lattice structure that alters the wavelength of light that is absorbed. They also have, luster, fluorescence, optical absorption, electrical properties, thermal conductivity, and thermal stability. Diamonds are known for being used as jewelry, however the majority of mined diamonds are used for industrial purposes. Since diamonds are super hard, they can be put into drill bits in order to cut other really hard materials. They can cut other softer gemstones into a symmetrical or more beautiful shape so they can be sold. • 5. My Reflection Of My Experience In The Courtroom For me, attending the Lindsey Flanigan Courthouse was the first experience I ve had in a physical court room. From the moment I arrived, I felt fairly overwhelmed with so many court rooms and cases being heard that day. I decided to go to the fifth floor, where felony cases were being heard, and I thought it would be fairly exciting getting to hear felonycases compared to misdemeanors. My expectations before going were mostly based on shows such as Law and Order, in which the whole hour is spent hearing one specific case. But in reality, the proceedings were far different from what I expected. When I arrived in the court room, the case of People v. Larry Sanchez was being discussed. Mr. Sanchez, was not only in handcuffs, but also wearing a correctional facilities green jumpsuit. Those simple facts led me to expect a lot of action, but after a few minutes I noticed that it was simply an arraignment in which the judgeaccepted the defendant s petition for pleabargain. I thought it was very interesting observing the side of the defendant, since the defense attorneys were public defenders. Seeing them have a different client every few minutes and having to know everything about their respective cases was very impressive. Meanwhile, representing the people on the side of the prosecution for every case were two attorneys. Neither of the attorneys seemed to do much beside state the facts of each case against the defendants. The judge seemed to do a very good job and one quote ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Along with regulatory laws there are legal restrictions that prohibit certain resources to foreign businesses. Joint ventures make it easy to bypass these restrictions and allow us access to raw materials we may not normally have (Hall, 1984). Along with the benefits of knowledge and resources, local governments favor collaborating with businesses in their country. Many foreign governments offer special incentives to outside countries if they enter into joint ventures. They see this as a way to bring employment, new technology and skills to their local people (Hall, 1984). This is a win win for everyone. Just as there are pros to joint ventures, there are also cons. The cons to entering into a joint venture are flexibility, technology transferred, employees, and loyalty to the U.S. partners (Hall, 1984). It enables a greater variety and quantity of agricultural goods to be traded on the global market. Moreover, this liberalization gives the freedom to global investors to make foreign investments into other countries. Some of these foreign investments include transnational food companies (TFCs), including large supermarkets (Hawkes, 2006). In consequence, a greater level of international flow of goods and services and capital result from this market and policy liberalization. A notable agreement was the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) agreement on agriculture. It bound countries to reduce tariffs, export subsidies and domestic agricultural support. Overall, other bilateral agreements that have taken place over the last 30 years have allowed policy shifts to establish a more liberal global agricultural marketplace. This has also encouraged the growth of TFCs, easily creating a global network of food import/export for cheaper prices, changing the supply of foods (Hawkes, 2006). How does this affect the nutrition transition? With this increase in liberalisation of markets, there is a significant change of food distribution and access that has particularly affected countries undergoing development. Generally, foods that are more energy dense with less nutrients are more readily available, particularly from TFCs and greater supermarket access, making the nutrition ... Throughout my years of growing up I have learned many lessons through life. Only a few events happened before this one that I can remember. Since it was Saturday, I slept longer than usual. Today was the day chosen to celebrate my birthday, which was actually a few days before. It was my 6th birthday party. My parents and I decided that the party would take place at our home. We invited all our neighbors and friends. I was young, energetic, and ready to enjoy life. Next, I got out of my Rugrats sheet covered bed. I headed down the narrow and white hallway to the living room. I greeted my parents and had a small breakfast. I ate scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast. After eating I asked my parents if I could ride my bike with friends before coming back home. My parents agreed that was ok. The Theological Concept Of The Divine Mother Essay Debates on the theological concept of the Divine Mother The 20th century feminist criticism of the systems of re presentation have attempted to expose the system of power that authorises certain representations while blocking, prohibiting, or invalidating others .83 Corrington further evaluates that if this is true for modes of expressing concepts in general, it is even more true for modes of expressing religious concepts .84 Moreover, summarising Ochshorn s argument for the expression of such concepts in monotheistic religions, Corrington states that the limitation of a deity to a single dynamic personality entailed the assignment to that persona of a gender that was perceived as the least limited in its socio biological role .85 Such expression is seen in early Christianity, when Jesus as the incarnation of God has become a crucial model for the saviour of the human race.86 In the work of Ruether who argues for misappropriation of the saviour figure in the early Christian thought, the discussion on such gender limitation takes the most dramatic turn: Who is this saviour, and from what does he save us? This saviour of men comes to free men from birth, from women, from earth, and from limits. This saviour can only come in the image of the male. As God can only be imaged as male, as the male is the proper image of God, so the saviour too must be male.... .87 The key to understanding this tension lies in understanding of both the aforementioned expression of ... Jennings Professor Tres Brooks CCT 110 November 24, 2014 Encryption Encryption is a way to enhance the security of a message or file by scrambling the contents so that it can be read only by someone who has the right encryption key to unscramble it (Microsoft). Encryption uses an algorithm to change plain text data to cipher text. It played a very important role in wars and in military circles to protect top secret information from foreign countries. There are two types of encryption symmetric key and asymmetric key encryption. Symmetric is faster than asymmetric at decrypting the data. Sometimes asymmetric and symmetric encryption are used together. The symmetric key is encrypted using asymmetric encryption. SYMMETRIC KEY ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... DES was one of the first symmetric encryption methods used by NSA dating back to the 1970s. It used a 56 bit key and 8 bit parity. DES can easily be broken, which is why AES replaced it in 2001. AES is stronger and faster than DES. It can use a variety of key lengths (128 , 192 , or 256 bit). Other ciphers used with symmetric key encryption are Ron s Cipher v2 (RC2), Ron s Cipher v5 (RC5), International Data Encryption Algorithm (IDEA), Triple DES (3DES), Blowfish, Twofish, and SkipJack. ASYMMETRIC ENCRYPTION Asymmetric encryption (also known as public key encryption) uses two different keys that are mathematically similar but distinctly different. One key for encrypting (public key) and the other for decrypting (private key). The two keys together are called a key pair. The strength of the secrecy and integrity lies in the private key. Asymmetric encryption is usually used for smaller data, like the encryption of a symmetric key. Asymmetric uses multiple different protocols, including, SSL/TLS, IPSec, VPNs, S/MIME, and SSH tunnels. The most popular cipher used in asymmetric encryption is RSA (Rivest, Shamir, Adleman) created in 1977 by Ron Rivest, Adi Shamir and Leonard Adleman. The townspeople greet the bishop in an overwhelming manner, creating a strong contrast against the neglectful attitude of the bishop: But the Bishop didn t stop and then the band of musicians started to play the bishop s anthem, and the cocks began to crow in their baskets and aroused all the other roosters in town. (18) g By staying on the boat, the bishop creates a physical distance that further advocates the barrier between the people and the Church, and ultimately affects their religious devotions. These actions of the bishop do not earn him respect as a person but only as an empty shell of authority, another defect in the practical result of religious doctrines. Hence Placida Linero refers to him as the son of the worst kind of mother (127). Religion also becomes less a symbol of ultimate priority and spirituality amongst the younger generation. Garcia Marquez discusses this notion using Santiago Nasar. Santiago engages religion with entertainment rather than an inscrutable symbol of spiritual life: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The public gardens consisted of a small wooded area, lined with fragrant flowerbeds, dotted with the occasional willow tree. Here one would find an oasis within an urban sprawl. Trees bordered the natural area like a green palisade, keeping at bay the city s chaos and neon lights. One might forget the city even existed. Only the park lights and the blinking glow of fireflies cast any illumination at all. To a mortal, all was quiet. A mortal could not see the night creatures making their nightly rounds. Blood was my usual fare, but occasionally I feasted on flesh if my appetite called for it. Sometimes I would drain my victims dry, with others I took a drink and finished their life in some other way. I relished the skill of the hunter, practically gloried in my ability to kill. There are a lot of films that unfortunately just didn t make it and we will be stating a few examples of them in just a few but let me just enlighten you as to why these films tend to flop. One of the things that has to be considered is its competition. If your film is directed by an Academy Award director with an Academy Award winning cast, but the movie you are competing with did a great job at advertising their film especially on the social media, your film might not make it. There are a lot of great films (technically) that flopped not because it is an awful film but because the people just don t find it interesting enough. Theodore Gericault uses smart angels and pigmentation of different bland of colors to give different sense of emotion from just one painting. The question as a novelist Julian Barnes asked, how do you turn catastrophe into art? to understand this artwork, we must look back to the origin of the painting. The raft of the medusa was one of the most important masterpieces of the 19th century. As it was one of the earliest well known romantic painting. What makes it important is how the artist Theodore Gericault came to paint such a confronting image but before I go on, there is a backstory to understand what motivated him to pursue such a painting. Theodore Gericault came from a wealthy French family and shows for his vocation in life to be an artist. He left France to gain some inspiration from Rome, while away he missed all the news on the scandal of the event. The event which lead to the raft of the medusa was the captain of the ship. Although exercise bikes (fitness bikes, studio bikes) received a bad rap for a number of years, being used as clothes hangers, etc., the new versions are sleek, silent, and easy to use. There are two basic types of bikes, the upright and the recumbent. An upright is what most people think of when they think of fitness bikes. The upright is closest to a regular bike, narrow saddle, pedals below the rider, handle bars out front. On the other hand, a recumbent exercise bike has a wider seat with a small back support. The pedals are out front, and the rider is in a reclined position. Both bikes have good and bad points as we shall see. The traditional setup of an upright bike allows the rider to more closely simulate an actual bike ride than possible with a recumbent. The rider is able to stand, assume a race crouch, or a neutral position. Trouble is, if the rider has any sort of back problems, especially lower back, an upright can irritate the condition leading to worse problems. An upright is more difficult to get on and off of because of a higher proximity to the ground. This can be problematic for older or overweight people. An upright takes up less room than a recumbent. • 35. Crowd Psychology The question that I intend to study is: How do shy people react in a crowd? (do they become aggressive/ assertive as per mob psychology, or shrink as per their personality)? There are various theories regarding the mode of behavior in a crowd. Some, such as Freud, posit that people behavior changes in a crowd and they become more restless and less individualistic. Mob theory, in fact, is born form this which asserts that crowds are the source of volatile conduct where diverse people gang together for a particular cause. Minds merge and each person s enthusiasm becomes increased as a result. On the other hand, you have the Convergence theory that posits that the cause is born beforehand and that people join the crowd in order to put their cause into practice. The crowd, in other words, enables them to accomplish their objective and it makes them more enthusiastic and entrenched in their mission. Social psychologists leBon (1895) and Zimbardo (1969) see the crowd as an instigator of individuation. Stimuli such as mergence into a larger whole, the rush of the environment, the pressure of the crowd, the sensory overload and so forth blur mental input and causes a deindivdualistic individual to appear. One thing that is remarkable about all of these theories is that they tend to generalize assuming categorical behavior to all individuals and providing the aspect of crowd with anthropomorphic qualities. Unions and collective bargaining rights are designed to promote and ensure our human rights are protected. This certainly doesn t mean there aren t flaws in the system, however, the intention of unions and collective bargaining is to safeguard workers, employers as well as the government to make it harmonious. The main role is to safeguard workers rights, ensure safe work conditions and negotiate for the employees through collective bargaining. Collective bargaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two sides don t have to reach an agreement, but they always have to bargain in good faith. Although, neither side is required to make a particular concession, a party that refuses to bend on a single issue or to put any offer on the table might be acting in good faith. The National Labor Relations Act forbids employers from interfering with, restraining, or coercing employees in the exercise of rights relating to organizing, forming, joining or assisting a labor organization for collective bargaining purposes, or from working together to improve terms and conditions of employment, or refraining from any such activity. Similarly, labor organizations may not restrain or coerce employees in the exercise of these rights. Primary examples of employer conduct that violates the law are, but not limited to; threatening employees with loss of jobs or benefits if they join or vote for a union or engage in protected concerted activity, threatening to close the plant if employees select a union to represent them, questioning employees about their union sympathies or activities in circumstances that tend to interfere with, restrain or coerce employees in the exercise of their rights under the Act. Promising benefits to employees to discourage their union support. Transferring, laying off, terminating, assigning employees more difficult work tasks, or otherwise punishing employees because they engaged in union or protected concerted activity or have filed unfair labor practice charges or participated in an investigation conducted by ... • 46. Nickel and Dimed Argumentative Essay Essay In Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, Ehrenreich goes undercover as a low wage worker, when she is really a reporter for New York Times. In Barbara s journey, it explains all of the hardships workers have with low wage jobs and makes your think: Does the accumulation of money and power inevitably lead to a loss of spirituality? Ehrenreich states that workers work long and stressful hours for almost no pay whatsoever but many people believe that these certain jobs are too easy and SHOULD receive the low wages that they re currently receiving. Do companies that give their workers low wages for the accumulation of money and power inevitably lead to a loss of their ethics and do it also lead to a loss of workers? I believe this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Others also state that these jobs are not hard and can easily be done without getting drained of all your energy, without working hard, or even without breaking a sweat, and that all they do is sit around and flip burgers while taking people s orders. More importantly, however, being able to go to college and get a good degree in a descent field is very difficult if not impossible. The cost of living and studying at a typical private college can add up to close to $45,000, multiply that by four to get your Bachelor s degree, and that s a whopping $180,000, an incredible sum of money for the average American. So in the end, working low wage job may be someone s only option due to the cost of college and being able to get a better paying job. As for the argument where these jobs aren t tiring, try cleaning for 8 10 hours a day, it wouldn t be easy. Most making the claim that these jobs are easy , are sitting down typing on the computer all day, not knowing what the low wage workers do all day. Low wage workers are working long and hard hours for almost no pay, which is absolutely ridiculous. These workers dedicate everything in their lives, for $7.25 an hour. I believe their lives are worth more than that. By saying all of this, I hope you understand that these workers are getting ripped off and no one can or will do ANYTHING about ... • 48. A Revision Of The Controlled Substances Act Essay Considering a Revision of The Controlled Substances Act Drug abuse and misuse are prominent problems in the United States, whether the issue is with trafficking, overdoses causing death, illegal recreational use in adolescents, or even improper prescriptions by medical professionals leading to physiological dependence. The formerly listed problems stem from outdated, yet current, classification system of drugs in the Controlled Substances Act(CSA). The HeroinEpidemic is an example of a problem concerning improper prescribing in medical practice; this issue began when many medical professionals began to prescribe potent painkillers to their patients early in their treatments. Over time and with consistent use, the patients grew to psychologically and physiologically depend on the painkillers. Eventually, the prescribed painkillers became unaffordable and patients began to depend on a cheaper drug with similar, yet more dangerous, effects: heroin. As a result, many are addicted to heroin as compared to prescription drugs. There is also an issue concerning qualified medical professionals that pill mill, meaning they prescribe Schedule II drugs such as oxycodone with the sole purpose to make more money; this puts the patient in danger in exchange for the doctor s personal benefit. As a student pursuing a career in the medical field, I find that the proper implementation and use of medicine and drugs is vital to providing quality health care, so that events like the heroin ...
