The Lesson Of Finding The Arc Length Of A Circle
I choose a word problems, which is part of the lesson of finding the arc length of a circle. To address
this concept, I want to assign the following word problem to the students:
A satellite orbiting the earth in a circular path stays at a constant altitude of 100 kilometers throughout
its orbit. Given that the radius of the earth is 6370 kilometers, find the approximate distance that the
satellite travels in completing 70% of one complete orbit.
The standard that is covering here is CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSG.C.B.5 (Common Core State
Standards Initiative, n.d.), which is Derive using similarity the fact that the length of the arc
intercepted by an angle is proportional to the radius, and define the radian measure of the angle as the
constant of proportionality; derive the formula for the area of a sector. For this lesson, the students
need to know how to use the formula to find the circumference of a circle, but also, how the find the
measurement of an arc, without forgetting that they need to find only when the satellite completes
70% of the orbit, and how many degrees are 70% of the arc. Students should have a background on
how to change the percent to a decimal, or to a fraction. Also, there are multiple ways on how the
students can find the answer. It is probably that most students will only use the radius of the Earth,
which is 6370 km. However, they can miss important information: the satellite is orbiting 100 km
above the Earth s surface. They need to add

Comparing To his Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and To his Mistress Going to Bed by John Donne
In recent times I have compared and contrasted two pieces of love poetry, both of which are
exceptionally lyrical and full of intellectual language that bring the poems alive with elaborated
metaphors that compare dissimilar things, as they Inare equally, yet somehow individually both
metaphysical poems. The first of these poems that I comprehended was To his Coy Mistress; (written
by Andrew Marvell during the 17th century), it reflects the epic of a man who is striving to entice a
unadulterated woman into going to bed with him; he does this by using a lot of romantic flattery and
surreal imagery, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps the most famous of Marvell s lyrics is To His Coy Mistress : Like many of Marvell s best
poems, it masks extraordinary subtlety and complexity beneath a surface of smooth and deceptively
simple octosyllabic couplets. It is, in fact, as perfect an example of the metaphysical mode as anything
by Donne and, for all its cool and witty tone, and passionate lyrics.
John Donne, (1572 1631) is considered the greatest of all metaphysical poets. Donne was educated at
Oxford, Cambridge and Lincoln s Inn. His works of this period, included some of his songs, sonnets
(written as late as 1617), problems and paradoxes, which consisted of cynical, realistic and often
sexual lyrics, essays and verse satires. Donne s court career was ruined by the discovery of his
marriage in 1601 to Anne More and we also imprisoned for a short time; later in 1601, his poems
became a lot more serious. After a long period of financial uncertainty and desperation, during which
he was twice a member of Parliament, Donne yielded to the wishes of King James I and took orders in
1625. Two years later his wife died. He was made reader in divinity at Lincoln s inn, a royal chaplain,
and in 1621 Dean of St. Paul , a position he held until his death.

community would disapprove and condemn it very reprehensibly, and factors

Glass Escalator Theory Paper
Women in the medical field are 5 times more likely to experience issues regarding themselves
advancing positions in their careers (Freedman 2). Though women are growing in this field they are
still underrepresented and face many challenges that a man would never have to face. Women not
being offered the same possibilities in the work place because of gender discrimination violates Title
VII of the Civil Right Act of 1964. This law was put into place to eliminate barriers for promotion and
hiring (Workplace fairness 3). Most issues arise from two particular theory s, including the Glass
Ceiling Theory and the Glass escalator Theory . The Glass Ceiling theory explains how a woman may
never make it to the top of their profession when compared to a man who may also want to advance.
The term Glass Ceiling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Glass Escalator Theory is a theory that explains how men in female dominated branches of the
medical field can advance faster than women. The Glass Escalator term describes how a man can
surpass a woman in the same field and the woman might not even notice (Goudreau 1). Women are
often too busy fighting obstacles that keep them from advancing and fail to notice how men are often
given the higher advantage, in turn, riding this glass escalator to the top. These two theories are very
prevalent in the medical field, especially in the branches that women tend to be more involved in, such
as nursing, pediatrics, and gynecology. The Glass Escalator shows how men are able to receive more
promotions in pay and positions even if women are more involved in the field. This comes from the
idea that men have better characteristics for taking on higher roles and representing at a higher level.
When a women is against a man for a job promotion, the man is most likely to receive it, even if they
are the same in education levels and

Power And Power In Judith Slaying Holofernes By Artemisia...
Violence and gore are not uncommon themes in art, however, few paintings depict bloodshed and
power with such resounding naturalism as Artemisia Gentileschi s work titled Judith Slaying
Holofernes . The work is an oil on canvas completed in the Baroque era sometime between 1614 to
1620, and depicts Judith and her maidservant holding down the struggling Holofernes as Judith pulls a
sword through his neck. Gentileschi utilizes a combination of chiaroscuro and diagonal lines to not
only create the lifelikeness and drama of the moment, but also to demonstrate the motions of the
struggle as well as continually draw the focus back to the goriest part of the scene with the bloody
head of Holofernes.

Likewise, half of each woman s facial features are obstructed by shadows creating a deep sense of the
ruthlessness in their commitment to holding down and killing Holofernes. Moreover, Holofernes face
itself is completely covered in a light shadow compared to the brightness of his arms already giving a
perception that his head is separated from his body and his grim fate is imminent.
In addition to Gentileschi s use of chiaroscuro to provide lifelikeness and focus, she poses Holofernes,
the maidservant, and Judith at natural angles that provide an idea of the strength involved for
maidservant to hold Holofernes down and for Judith to pull the sword through this neck while
gripping the hair and beard. Notably, each character is posed in a diagonal position, adding to the
feeling of the motion involved in the struggle as the women hold down this large man to behead him.
Beginning with Judith, her entire body is angled at a slant, both arms locked in a diagonal position, as
well as the right knee placed at a diagonal on the bed displaying the commitment and power it takes to
hold Holofernes down while pulling the sword through his neck. Similarly, the maidservant s back is
positioned at a steep angle demonstrating the amount of weight she would be placing into her upper
body and arms to hold Holofernes down as he pushes back on her with his right arm. Lastly, the sharp
downward angle of Holofernes head as it hangs off the edge of the bed adds to the

Examples Of Dramatic Irony In Hamlet
Dramatic Irony is evident throughout the tragic play William Shakespeare s Hamlet. In this tragedy,
dramatic irony is used to keep the audience engaged; an example is found in Act I Scene V. The ghost
of the King appears to Hamlet and reveals to him the truth of how he passed away. The country that is
Denmark believes the King had been bitten by a snake. However, in actuality, the ghost reveals to
Hamlet, his two friends, and the audience that it was Claudius, Hamlets Uncle who poisoned the old
King of Denmark and stole his throne. Throughout this incident, Shakespeare develops the character
of Hamlet and the conflict of the play. Due to the fact dramatic irony is evident in the play, it
additionally strengthens the reader s sympathy towards

The Underlying Causes Of Sexual Behavior
The underlying causes of out of control sexual behavior has led to contentious arguments, since the
underlying causes of the behavior determine how it should be treated. This literature review looks at
the possible causes of sexual dysfunction in the form of overactive sexual activities. Using internet
search terms including sexual addiction, sexual dependency, and hypersexuality, information was
gathered on historical and current viewpoints on the causes of such behavior to determine whether
overactive sexual activity should be classified as an addiction. Factors including psychological issues,
comorbidity issues, and social issues were examined. While there are limited studies that indicate that
the brain of those who participate in risky sexual behavior respond in much the same way as those
who experience drug addiction, there is strong evidence that these behaviors are brought about by
underlying causes such as child sexual abuse and psychological disorders such as bi polar disorder.
Careful examination of the patient s history should be conducted to determine if overactive sexual
activity is due to an underlying condition. Determining the underlying causes of out of control sexual
behavior is important in order to determine the best way to treat those suffering from its ill effects. In
the past, this type of behavior was known as nymphomania and satyriasis. Today, there are a multitude
of names for such behavior, including hypersexuality, sexual addiction, sexual

Problem of Evil essay
Although it could be argued that an omnipotent omniscient and omnibenevolent deity could exist
along with evil. It is in fact not reasonable to believe so. I will prove that it is unreasonable to believe
a god with these attributes like this can exist accompanying evil. In order to give a valid argument ill
look at each component, omniscience, omnipotence and Omni benevolence and break those down
leading to the conclusion that a being such as this cannot coexist with evil. I will look at the arguments
given for why god wouldn t exist as well as some of the points that may be used by others to combat
them. To make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this situation there are two options for someone to take, first reject one of the main premises that
god is not omniscient or that such a being exists in the first place. Refusing to believe she exists of
course is the least likely option for those who are religious. Classical theists would disagree with both
of these things because to give up one of the three big aspects of god goes against their faith entirely.
Some may accept that god is not omniscient and others may argue that free will in a situation like this.
This is completely aside from just natural evils that occur these are the evils that humans bring to the
world. However if god already knew what was going to happen and we supposedly have free will it
cannot be used as argument since it can be questioned if you can have free will if everything is
determined. Now it is fair to say that an all knowing god does exist and with all his vast knowledge
could not create a world without evil nor rid the world of evil after it came. This clues into the next
point of her omnipotence. With that said, it is irrational to think that this omniscient deity exists.
In challenging the existence of the whole being must be looked into, each part of an Omni god
omnipotence, omniscience and Omni benevolence are very closely related to each other. Naturally it
makes sense to have

Socialization Of Gender Roles
From the instant we are born, we are born into a world of conformity and obedience. Early in our
lives, we look at authority figures like parents or teachers as these sentinels of guidance, as
omnipotent beings with unwavering precision in their lessons. The concept of socialization is very
perplexed, and it s difficult to identify the variables that shape our development as we grow. As
children, we communicate with the world free of inhibition, and find no fault in any of our actions; we
could throw a tantrum and no one would bat an eye because it is socially acceptable for a child to have
minimal restraint on their emotions. Over the years, we eventually become embedded in the norms of
our culture, and mature to our respective social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While these genderfied roles are entirely different, as a society we constantly fail to recognize these
roles as they appear in front of us. As a result of our systematic training of gender roles, we have
essentially unconsciously accepted that gender roles are okay without even analyzing it (Is Everyone
Really Equal?). As early as childhood we are exposed to various forms of gender roles. Did you know
that 96.8% of teachers in pre school and kindergarten are female (goo.gl/Nb9hpX)? That s not
necessarily a bad thing, it s just strange to realize that one sex can virtually dominate an entire
profession at such a high statistic without anyone asking questions. Some would argue that the female
gender role is economically inferior than that of a man s. It s commonly said that woman only earn
seventy nine cents of every man s dollar, but is this necessarily true? No, it s actually worse. The
statistic of seventy nine cents for every dollar is actually a statistic for white woman. Hispanic woman
earn fifty five cents for every dollar, while Asian woman earn eighty four cents for every dollar. If we
were to average the four major ethnic groups, woman would earn approximately sixty nine cents for
every dollar (https://goo.gl/nGUZRC). While this statistic is actually worse off than the stereotype, I
would also like to point out that this statistic compares the wage of females of FOUR ethnic groups
against the

Human Sacrifice In Ancient Egyptian Culture
Human sacrifice Yizhuo Chen 12/21/2016
Human sacrifice is an important matter and human behavior in prehistory in the evolution of ancient
civilization. It is the act of killing human. Usually human sacrifice comes with deity as a ritual
activity. Throughout history, human sacrifice has been practiced in diverse cultures and different
civilizations. As far as I know, there are some bizarre methods of human sacrifice in history.
In Ancient Egypt, pharaohs had the highest positions in Egyptian society not only in religion but also
in politics. In early pharaonic civilization, as long as pharaohs deceased, pharaohs were buried with
their servants and retainers. This behavior is cruel and violent because servants and retainers were still
alive when they were buried. All the people in Ancient Egypt had a common view with the belief that
servants and retainers still could serve their owner after they had been dead. There are evidences show
that servants and retainers were forced to take some drugs which can make them in a drug induced
state. So they were just walking into the tomb without revolt [1][2].
In the low land Yucatec Maya especially in Chichen Itza, there are some natural limestone pits and
sinkholes which were called cenotes. Archaeologists have already found human remains in these
areas. Cenotes were called virgin water that were places of Maya human sacrifice. Ball game was
always held by Mayans in Chichen Itza, and it always came

The Influence of George Frideric Handel on Music
Introduction
Over time, the world has seen many outstanding musicians, and so much fantastic music. Each highly
remembered composer or musician changed the way we think and see the world. They give us new
ideas, and music is a wonderful way to convey moods and emotions. Each also slightly changed music
itself. Handel was one of the greatest of these people. He was a superior composer who largely
influenced and expanded music.
Background
George Frideric Handel was born in Germany, but found his future in England as a composer. Stanley
states that: Handel was by training and temperament a composer... Like Mozart he possessed in the
highest degree the supreme attributes of the musical dramatist (105 106). The surprising thing is

England loved Handel dearly. He was famous all over. He wrote different genres, and for many
occasions, so many people were familiar with him, one way or another.
The musical history of England is greatly dependent on Handel. He was, undoubtedly, one of their
most honored composers.
To George Frederik Handel we own our prestige as a musical nation; to his inimitable genius and
mighty intellect we are indebted ... [Handel s operas] have served as a model for the formation of our
national style; his individual idiosyncrasies have become the accepted formulae of sacred musical
utterance, and the purity of his themes and major proportions of his style have given at once the
example, and the spirit of emulation to succeeding generations of native musicians! (Qtd in. Parker)
He gave England its reputation in music, providing the foundation for many fantastic composers after
him. Handel notably impacted the writings of future composers. Langlois evaluates Handel s influence
in many of Mozart s pieces. These are in pieces such as The Solemn Vespers, or C Minor Mass. He
also tells of Handel s influence on Beethoven. There can be found a certain Handelian influence in
Beethoven s music. Many of Beethoven s grand themes sound as if they could have been written by

How Miller s Life Reflected His Work
Author Miller was an American play wright and really rose up to the top in the years following World
War Two. The way Millers life was deeply impacted the way he would write. Miller was also a very
well known playwright and his work was greatly appreciated. He portrays problems with family, life,
society and himself in death. Miller writes clever and original messages to the readers. Miller pours
out so much emotion into his books and stories, therefore it all reflects onto all of his writing skills.
Author Miller is able to put into words what every person feels, worries and thinks about very
accurately. The main reason why Millers writing is impacted so deeply is because of the Great
Depression. When Miller was younger his father was a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He really puts himself into the audience and delivers to them what they all want. Due to all his last
events and trembling past life he became very good at being understandable and relatable. His whole
life truly and beautifully impacted the way he wrote. Miller never dealt in fanciful subject and his
characters never really resorted to any undue affectation.
His realism reflects a very modernist sensibility focused on the struggles of everyday figures and the
tragedies of life just as it blossoms and triumphs. Miller had a very strong belief that the power of the
theater is to transform the society as a unit, as a whole. Miller made a very heavy dose of allegory in
his plays, soaked in realism. Then Author Millers plays deal a lot of issues which are strong between
right and wrong.
The most important part is that they re stressed how people treat others issues in time of intense
pressure, just like in All my sons for an example The businessman selling faulty parts to the army in
order to keep his family heathy and fed. Millers style reflects a strong sense of values which are
ethical and knows how difficult it could be to understand others values. Millers whole style retains a
deep compassion for his protagonist who holds onto their values or sacrifices.

The Jacobin Uprising
Within the new French Legislative Assembly, the onetime allies turned political rivals the Girondins
and the Jacobins competed for power. Both began in favor of a French republic, but differed in their
methods of obtaining that goal. The Girondins favored a slower peaceful path to abolishing the
monarchy, which the radical Robespierre referred to as ineffectual (Robespierre 1910). The Jacobins
favored the swiftness of violence (Ibid). Following the suspension of the monarchy, National
Guardsmen were sent to prisons across Paris searching for traitors, (McPhee 2012). Anyone adamantly

Lenin s cries for the Soviet to seize control of the government were therefore intended mainly to
arouse indignation in both the Provisional Government and in his less radical Soviet allies (Ibid).
Accordingly, although Lenin arrived in Petrograd in April 1917, the violence marking his rise to
power did not begin until mid June (Ibid). The Provisional Government s latest attack against
Germany was a military disaster and the army refused to follow further orders to the front (Riordan
1964). Soldiers and laborers alike started violent protests, demanding all power to the Soviets, (Ibid).
Lenin and the Bolshevik party disowned the violence and the protests stopped shortly thereafter (Ibid).
Nevertheless, Lenin was forced to flee the country while Leon Trotsky was arrested for the violent
revolts which marked the July Days (Wade 2000).
During the French Revolution, violence once again marked a distinct change in tone. The final
severing with the Legislative Assembly s final severing with the former monarchical government
occurred on January 21, 1793 when a narrow majority vote ordered Louis XVI s execution (Doyle
2002). Ironically, Robespierre voted in favor in spite of his previous opposition to the death penalty.
But as the Reign of Terror to com rolled out of control, he became more vocally supportive of

Use Of Force And Police Brutality
Abstract The unnecessary use of force use the police officers is referred to as police use of excessive
force and police brutality. Both excessive force and police brutality involve physical contact with a
law enforcement officer with a citizen or civilian. Physical contact and police brutality can both lead
to death. It is entirely within the police officer discretion the type of force to use during an arrest.
Maybe a police officer s cannot handle making the correct judgment call, or perhaps having too much
power affects their ability to perform their job effectively. This behavior has to stop, police brutality
needs to end today. Society distrust for police has gotten worse over the years. The police need to
rebuild the trust again in America. Police brutality is a growing epidemic. According to Statics, (2015)
in the United States, a police officer takes the life of a citizen every 7 hours. In 2015, there were 1,307
people who lost their lives at the hands of a police officer or law enforcement official. In 2016, that
number was 1,152. Although lower, both years are still higher than the 1,149 people who were killed
by police in 2014. (Fatal Encounters/Mapping Police Violence) Whereas, 69% of the victims of police
brutality in the United States who are African American/Black were suspected of a non violent crime
and were unarmed. (Mapping Police Violence) Consequently, the police officers are indicted in less
than 1% of killings, but the indictment rate for civilians involved in a killing is 90%. As a result,
police officers do not have a set of laws that apply to them. Since police brutality is high, society now
distrusts law enforcement because of their higher rate of police brutality. In order to regain the trust of
society, police brutality must STOP or maybe the police community relationship beyond repair.
Presently, the duties of a police officer, also known as a law enforcement officer, focus on protecting
people and property. They patrol the areas they are assigned, which sometimes include entire
jurisdictions respond to calls enforce laws make arrests issue citations, and Occasionally testify in
court cases However, the safety of officers and

Social Class Differences In American Culture
In American culture, most parents would say that they are doing a satisfactory job at raising their
children; yet, each family raise their children so differently. The differences are clearly seen when
compared by class.
In the upper classes (high class to upper middle class), children are given hundreds of learning
opportunities and are taught to value education at a much earlier age. They are put into expensive day
cares that require competitive applications, after school art and sport programs, and enrichment clubs

Margaret Cavendish Research Paper
(1623) Birth of Margaret Cavendish: Margaret Cavendish was an English noblewoman born in 1623
to a wealthy family. Cavendish was born in Essex, England where she was taught of feminine arts at
home. In 1643, she went to court to be a maid of honor to Queen Henrietta Maria during the English
civil war (Blackwell). A year later, due to exile, Henrietta Maria fled to Paris with Cavendish by her
side. While in Paris, Cavendish found her future husband, William Cavendish, who she married at the
end of 1645 ( Biography of Margaret Cavendish ). Half a decade later, Margaret Cavendish began
writing. The birth of Margaret Cavendish lies important to both science and women. In her writings,
Cavendish spoke of women s poor education... exclusion from public institutions, physical demands of
childbirth, and society s image of women as irrational and unintelligent (Blackwell). Without
Cavendish s birth, her advocacy and voice would not be able to push for the fair treatment of women
and their involvement in science. Furthermore, Cavendish used her voice to explain that [t]he truth is,
we [women] live like bats, or owls, labor like beasts, and die like worms in reference to the lack of
credit that women receive ( Female Orations ). Not to mention, Cavendish created a chapter

jumped from a curiosity of 17 sales in 1999 to 470,383 in 2014.[1] The annual growth rate of the
hybrid market has advanced across all makes and models and includes luxury vehicles, family sedans
and economy vehicles. Hybrid car owners can save hundreds of dollars on fuel costs, get maintenance
costs that are comparable to gas powered vehicles by spreading them over the life of the cars, enjoy
tax incentives and driving perks and find hybrid vehicles in attractive models from their favorite
manufacturers.[2] Hybrid Technology Becomes Increasingly Common This article will explore some
of the benefits of going hybrid, which include getting lower fuel costs, driving greener, cutting noise
pollution and reducing dependency on foreign oil. Increased hybrid options include affordable and
indulgent Hondas, Subarus, Acuras and many other models for single drivers, families and business
transportation. Benefits of going hybrid include but aren t limited to the following advantages: 1.
Increased Fuel Efficiency The Toyota Prius leads the market in hybrid fuel efficiency, according to
FuelEconomy.org, because the model gets almost about 50 MPG no matter where you drive or live.[2]
Other hybrid cars also get mileage ratings of more than 40 MPG. Hybrid cars can achieve these
astonishing efficiency ratings while enjoying the full range of torque, acc acceleration and driving

Essay on Comparing “the Story of an Hour” and “the Necklace”
Comparing The Story of an Hour and The Necklace
Short stories are always very enjoyable to read. They are very concise but mostly have such a deep
message resonating throughout the text that the reader is left pondering over an extension of the story
to imagine the possible ending if they were novels instead. The works under consideration are meant
to be compared because of their unique theme which reflects how two authors can write similar yet
distinctive stories in different times. Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour and The Necklace by Guy

Six Major Causes Of Wrongful Conviction
Part1: Six Major Causes of Wrongful Conviction
The most vicious cause of wrongful conviction is eyewitness misidentification. According to the
Innocence Project, 72% of overturned wrongful convictions through DNA testing were due to
eyewitness misidentification1. As this statistics implies, eyewitness identification (Eye ID) is
untrustworthy information. The main reason why Eye ID lacks accuracy is due to malleability of
memories. The Innocence Project asserts there are two variables greatly influence memory and also
Eye ID. One type of variables is estimator variables which are incontrollable factors by the criminal
justice system. Examples of estimator variables are environmental factors (e.g., lighting and distance)
when the crime occurred, racial factors, and psychological factors (e.g., severity of trauma)1. The
other type of variable is system variables which is controllable by the criminal justice system. These
variables are within the procedure of attaining evidences. For instance, post identification feedback
(e.g., confirming feedback that an eyewitness receives), biased lineup/ photo array composition,
biased administrators of lineup can negatively influences Eye ID.
The second primary cause of wrongful conviction is due to unreliable or improper forensic science
and forensic misconduct. The Innocence Project asserts that most forensic science (e.g., analysis of
hair, bite marks, fire arms, and tool marks) has not been thoroughly and scientifically evaluated

Henry Ford
Intro Who is he? Henry Ford ( 1863 1943 ) was one of America s foremost industrialists. He
revolutionized production of the automobile/transportation. Ford was born on July 30, 1863, in a place
near Dearborn, Michigan. Over the years, he worked as an engineer for the Edison Illuminating
Company in Detroit. His first developed/built form of transport was gasoline powered. He built a
gasoline powered horseless carriage called the Quadricycle, in the shed behind his home. Years later,
Ford developed and built the Ford Model T car in 1908. He then developed the assembly line made of
production, revolutionizing the industry. Resulting in millions of cars sold and becoming a world
famous company head. The company s market dominance was lost, but there was a lasting impact on
other technological development and U.S. infrastructure. Enormously influential in the industrial
world, Henry Ford was also outspoken in the political realm. He drew controversy for his pacifist
stance during the early years of World War 1 and earned widespread criticism for his anti Semitic
views and writings.

Research Paper On Wonder Woman
It s been a long wait, but the first ever live action adaptation of Wonder Woman is just about to hit the
theaters worldwide. Considering the character s long and varied history in the DC Comics universe, it
s a small wonder we re just getting to this now. If you re not a fan of the comics, you d be forgiven for
thinking Wonder Woman is just some lady with a magic lasso. The upcoming movie should prove you
wrong, however, and there are at least five good reasons for it:
1. Critical Reception
Pop quiz, hotshots: how many DCEU movies have been a hit with the critics? The correct answer is
none at least until a few days ago. As of right now, Wonder Woman is holding steadfast at 95% at
Rotten Tomatoes, with 105 of 112 reviews giving it a fresh ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Even in the little screentime she had, the Israeli actress managed to bring out the perfect combination
of power and mystery Wonder Woman is known for. And if the stories from her time in the army are
anything to go by, she should be able to handle the physical demands of the role just fine.
3. Period Piece
Having World War I as the setting of Diana Prince s origin story is a bold choice, but we believe it s
likely to pay off. It helps that WWI is not often explored in movies, so the audiences haven t had time
to get sick of it yet. On a related note, this should prove to be a nice change of pace from the all the
modern day DCEU movies. You could draw some parallels with Captain America: The First Avenger,
but the two World Wars have less in common than you might think.
4. Patty Jenkins
It s still hard to believe it took Patty Jenkins 14 years to shoot her second feature film. She s been
keeping busy with some sporadic TV work, but her stellar debut Monster left us wanting to see a
whole lot more from her. Back in the day, she seemed like a moderately safe bet to direct Thor 2;

The White Witch By James Weldon Johnson

The White *itch And back behind those smiling lips, / And down within those laughing eyes,.../ The
shadow of the panther lurks, / The spirit of the vampire lies (25, 26, 29, 30). The supernatural poem
The White Witch by James Weldon Johnson gives us an insight to what lay behind the curtains during
the Harlem Renaissance. The poem takes a real life situation of the era, white women luring black
men to their death via false blame, and portrays it as a fairy tale. Using symbolism, white women are
represented by an attractive and powerful witch who takes the black men as prey to portray the
message of how deceiving and evil white women were to falsely blame African American men of ...

Johnson s description of the witch s features became the most significant facet of the story, especially
the significance attaches to color symbolism: Her lips are like carnations red, / Her face like new born
lilies fair, / Her eyes like ocean waters blue... (13 15). J. Johnson uses the power of imagery here by
depicting the evil witch as a shockingly beautiful lady. He utilizes similes to convey that she is gentle
looking and captivating. With this image in mind, Johnson also makes it clear that looks can be
deceiving:
The great white witch you have not seen?
...Like nursery children you have looked
For ancient hag and snaggled tooth;
But no, not so; the witch appears
In all the glowing charms of youth. (7, 9, 10, 11, 12) The evil force of women in this time does not
appear to look like what you would assume. She is youthful, not old and snaggled toothed. Through
this we can see that the theme is the portrayal of a black man that has fallen victim to the witch s
power, and is now warning his brothers and friends. White women that had power over black men,
and even black women, abused their privileges and the people in the lower class were the ones
affected. In analyzation, the connotation aspect of this poem is how women during this time,
specifically white women, used their power over black men and their freedom. Although the texts

With the use of the Aristotle Rhetorical Triangle, Bernard Roth proves that reasons are bull shit. Now,
what is the rhetorical triangle exactly? The rhetorical triangle is made up of three different parts of
persuasion. The first is ethos, which is also usually known as the author s credibility. The second is

Don t you hate it when something doesn t turn out the way you wanted it to? When you care so deeply

premonitions in the play been taken more seriously by key characters, tragedy could have been

The child can learn from others in its group and figure out different social terms. Education begins
with a psychological insight into the child s abilities, interests, and behaviors. When considering these
insights, one must translate them into terms of their social equivalents in order for the child to use
them socially. At Dewey s laboratory school, he used democratic education ideas. He wanted to
change the minds of the students as well as the teachers.
Education is a process of living and not a preparation for future living. When Dewey says this, I think
he is saying that schools should be a place for the students to learn what they like and how they can
contribute to society. The child should not be forced to do things just to be able to get a job later on.
Children are taught the basic school subjects such as: science, literature, and history. Dewey says that
the children need to be taught based on their own social activities. The students should not be
separated from their community life, and have to sit in chairs that are in a straight line towards the
teacher. Students should be learning from one another, and they can not do that by sitting in the same

The environment is educative in a way that helps the student share and participate in activities. By

Lord Chesterfield Character Analysis
In Lord Chesterfield s letter to his son, he attempts to shape him into a respectable man worthy of
inheriting the family wealth in ways that can still be recognized in parenting today. In modern times,
parents put a high value on grades and schooling; Chesterfield chides his son to take more care in his
accumulation of knowledge. Respect is also key, parents still demand the same respect from their
children as Chesterfield expects from his son. Another thing that parents will often say is to learn from
their mistakes which is something Chesterfield places high value on. The things Chesterfield tries to
pass on in this letter to his son say a lot about his personal values, namely, the value he places on
respect, education, and decision making. Throughout his letter, Lord Chesterfield makes small, passive
aggressive remarks that hint underhandedly at the repercussions should his son choose not to respect
what he is saying. He threatens that his young son can not have a shilling in the world but from [him]
(27 28). Here, Chesterfield warns that he will not be allowed even a little bit of the family s fortune
unless he gives it to him. Basically, Chesterfield is exposing the complete dependency his son has on
him due to their aristocratic status. This also alludes to respect because if his son does not respect him,
he will quiet literally have nothing. Additionally, Chesterfield is convinced [his son] will act right (32)
not because he threatened him with what

Emile Durkheim and Sigmund Freud Essay
Emile Durkheim and Sigmund Freud
Emile Durkheim and Sigmund Freud are European sociologists who studied and wrote about the
affect of industrializations and with society. Emile Durkheim is known to many in the humanities and
academic fields. Freud is familiar to anyone who has studied intellectual and scientific history.
Durkheim and Freud believed understanding the rules of society was vital for human survival.
Durkheim compares to Freud in some aspects to religion. Both Emile and Freud were of European
descent.
Emile went on to study the rules of society in order to better understand it. He found the broken link to
when a crime or problem arose. He related this back to scientific theory which enabled the social

Durkheim uses the example of Australian Totemism as the elementary form , that is, the original and
most basic common denominator of religion.
He describes the totem emblem as a symbol both for a society and its sacredness. This is because, he
states in his fundamental hypothesis, god and society are one and the same, though not necessarily on
a conscious level. For Durkheim, religion is what brings people together by reinforcing social
relations and moral norms through a collective effervescence or group energy. This energy, when felt
by the individual, is not recognized as the result of communal energies, but is attributed to the sacred.
Emile Durkheim was a taught by a teacher and to add was a sociologist. Durkheim singularly
developed sociology and is credited for expanding to academic discipline, social structures, social
relationships, and social institutions, in attempt to understand human nature. Later Durkheim took
these and applied them into religion. Durkheim focused on the importance of the concept of the sacred
and its relevance to the welfare of the entire community.
Freud examined much of psychoanalysis and trends that were affected by it. Freud disagreed with
religion to full extent. He believed that there needed to different tasks accomplished by the individuals
that made up the society but in difference will lead to capitalism and the destruction of the social
structure. It is certainly true that society and religion are

What Is The Role Of Coal Miners In The 1930 s
their conviction, it was the striking miners who negotiated with the coal operators. Dan Moar
represented the miners and was successful in signing a temporary agreement.
5. The coal miners were paid 25 cents for, every ton of coal that they dug, hand loaded on coal cars
and pushed to the main shaft. An experienced miner who worked hard during his 10 hour shift, was
given an opportunity to earn $1.60. The collection of rocks, clay and small sized coal reduced a miner
s pay. Miners were also forced to do extra work such as laying tracks, pumping water, timbering and
clearing roof falls that were not part of the pay.
6. The living conditions of the miners were worse in comparison to their work environments. Among
many, there were only two mines that had shower facilities for its workers. The miners and their
families referred the mine houses, as hovels in comparison to the village of Bienfait as they were
forced to live in them so as to maintain the status of a permanent employee that guaranteed work for
the miner. The houses were shacks with no lighting, insulation, or plumbing and were often infested

The timeline of the events that occurred before, during and after the Estevan strike of 1931:
 In 1931, there were many people across Canada that were struggling through the Depression. In
Bienfait, Saskatchewan, coal miners were facing a similar struggle. At that time, the price of coal was
lower than it had been in recent years, and the mine workers were facing unsafe working conditions
and lower wages. As new strips of mine opened in Saskatchewan, many workers were faced with a
wage cut of up to 15 percent.
 In July and August of 1931, groups of mine workers secretly gathered to discuss how to resolve the
concerns regarding unsafe working conditions, wage cuts and to how to form a local organization.
 The miners appealed to the Trades and Labour Congress of Canada, anticipating that they would
help them establish a union, but their requests were

  • 2. The Lesson Of Finding The Arc Length Of A Circle I choose a word problems, which is part of the lesson of finding the arc length of a circle. To address this concept, I want to assign the following word problem to the students: A satellite orbiting the earth in a circular path stays at a constant altitude of 100 kilometers throughout its orbit. Given that the radius of the earth is 6370 kilometers, find the approximate distance that the satellite travels in completing 70% of one complete orbit. The standard that is covering here is CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSG.C.B.5 (Common Core State Standards Initiative, n.d.), which is Derive using similarity the fact that the length of the arc intercepted by an angle is proportional to the radius, and define the radian measure of the angle as the constant of proportionality; derive the formula for the area of a sector. For this lesson, the students need to know how to use the formula to find the circumference of a circle, but also, how the find the measurement of an arc, without forgetting that they need to find only when the satellite completes 70% of the orbit, and how many degrees are 70% of the arc. Students should have a background on how to change the percent to a decimal, or to a fraction. Also, there are multiple ways on how the students can find the answer. It is probably that most students will only use the radius of the Earth, which is 6370 km. However, they can miss important information: the satellite is orbiting 100 km above the Earth s surface. Comparing To his Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and To his Mistress Going to Bed by John Donne In recent times I have compared and contrasted two pieces of love poetry, both of which are exceptionally lyrical and full of intellectual language that bring the poems alive with elaborated metaphors that compare dissimilar things, as they Inare equally, yet somehow individually both metaphysical poems. The first of these poems that I comprehended was To his Coy Mistress; (written by Andrew Marvell during the 17th century), it reflects the epic of a man who is striving to entice a unadulterated woman into going to bed with him; he does this by using a lot of romantic flattery and surreal imagery, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perhaps the most famous of Marvell s lyrics is To His Coy Mistress : Like many of Marvell s best poems, it masks extraordinary subtlety and complexity beneath a surface of smooth and deceptively simple octosyllabic couplets. It is, in fact, as perfect an example of the metaphysical mode as anything by Donne and, for all its cool and witty tone, and passionate lyrics. John Donne, (1572 1631) is considered the greatest of all metaphysical poets. Donne was educated at Oxford, Cambridge and Lincoln s Inn. His works of this period, included some of his songs, sonnets (written as late as 1617), problems and paradoxes, which consisted of cynical, realistic and often sexual lyrics, essays and verse satires. Donne s court career was ruined by the discovery of his marriage in 1601 to Anne More and we also imprisoned for a short time; later in 1601, his poems became a lot more serious. After a long period of financial uncertainty and desperation, during which he was twice a member of Parliament, Donne yielded to the wishes of King James I and took orders in 1625. Two years later his wife died. He was made reader in divinity at Lincoln s inn, a royal chaplain, and in 1621 Dean of St. Paul , a position he held until his death. Though women are growing in this field they are still underrepresented and face many challenges that a man would never have to face. Women not being offered the same possibilities in the work place because of gender discrimination violates Title VII of the Civil Right Act of 1964. This law was put into place to eliminate barriers for promotion and hiring (Workplace fairness 3). The Glass Escalator term describes how a man can surpass a woman in the same field and the woman might not even notice (Goudreau 1). Women are often too busy fighting obstacles that keep them from advancing and fail to notice how men are often given the higher advantage, in turn, riding this glass escalator to the top. These two theories are very prevalent in the medical field, especially in the branches that women tend to be more involved in, such as nursing, pediatrics, and gynecology. The Glass Escalator shows how men are able to receive more promotions in pay and positions even if women are more involved in the field. This comes from the idea that men have better characteristics for taking on higher roles and representing at a higher level. Violence and gore are not uncommon themes in art, however, few paintings depict bloodshed and power with such resounding naturalism as Artemisia Gentileschi s work titled Judith Slaying Holofernes . The work is an oil on canvas completed in the Baroque era sometime between 1614 to 1620, and depicts Judith and her maidservant holding down the struggling Holofernes as Judith pulls a sword through his neck. Gentileschi utilizes a combination of chiaroscuro and diagonal lines to not only create the lifelikeness and drama of the moment, but also to demonstrate the motions of the struggle as well as continually draw the focus back to the goriest part of the scene with the bloody head of Holofernes. In addition to Gentileschi s use of chiaroscuro to provide lifelikeness and focus, she poses Holofernes, the maidservant, and Judith at natural angles that provide an idea of the strength involved for maidservant to hold Holofernes down and for Judith to pull the sword through this neck while gripping the hair and beard. Notably, each character is posed in a diagonal position, adding to the feeling of the motion involved in the struggle as the women hold down this large man to behead him. Beginning with Judith, her entire body is angled at a slant, both arms locked in a diagonal position, as well as the right knee placed at a diagonal on the bed displaying the commitment and power it takes to hold Holofernes down while pulling the sword through his neck. Similarly, the maidservant s back is positioned at a steep angle demonstrating the amount of weight she would be placing into her upper body and arms to hold Holofernes down as he pushes back on her with his right arm. This literature review looks at the possible causes of sexual dysfunction in the form of overactive sexual activities. Using internet search terms including sexual addiction, sexual dependency, and hypersexuality, information was gathered on historical and current viewpoints on the causes of such behavior to determine whether overactive sexual activity should be classified as an addiction. Factors including psychological issues, comorbidity issues, and social issues were examined. While there are limited studies that indicate that the brain of those who participate in risky sexual behavior respond in much the same way as those who experience drug addiction, there is strong evidence that these behaviors are brought about by underlying causes such as child sexual abuse and psychological disorders such as bi polar disorder. Careful examination of the patient s history should be conducted to determine if overactive sexual activity is due to an underlying condition. Determining the underlying causes of out of control sexual behavior is important in order to determine the best way to treat those suffering from its ill effects. In this situation there are two options for someone to take, first reject one of the main premises that god is not omniscient or that such a being exists in the first place. Refusing to believe she exists of course is the least likely option for those who are religious. Classical theists would disagree with both of these things because to give up one of the three big aspects of god goes against their faith entirely. Some may accept that god is not omniscient and others may argue that free will in a situation like this. This is completely aside from just natural evils that occur these are the evils that humans bring to the world. However if god already knew what was going to happen and we supposedly have free will it cannot be used as argument since it can be questioned if you can have free will if everything is determined. Now it is fair to say that an all knowing god does exist and with all his vast knowledge could not create a world without evil nor rid the world of evil after it came. This clues into the next point of her omnipotence. With that said, it is irrational to think that this omniscient deity exists. As far as I know, there are some bizarre methods of human sacrifice in history. In Ancient Egypt, pharaohs had the highest positions in Egyptian society not only in religion but also in politics. In early pharaonic civilization, as long as pharaohs deceased, pharaohs were buried with their servants and retainers. This behavior is cruel and violent because servants and retainers were still alive when they were buried. According to the Innocence Project, 72% of overturned wrongful convictions through DNA testing were due to eyewitness misidentification1. As this statistics implies, eyewitness identification (Eye ID) is untrustworthy information. The main reason why Eye ID lacks accuracy is due to malleability of memories. The Innocence Project asserts there are two variables greatly influence memory and also Eye ID. One type of variables is estimator variables which are incontrollable factors by the criminal justice system. Examples of estimator variables are environmental factors (e.g., lighting and distance) when the crime occurred, racial factors, and psychological factors (e.g., severity of trauma)1. The other type of variable is system variables which is controllable by the criminal justice system. These variables are within the procedure of attaining evidences. For instance, post identification feedback (e.g., confirming feedback that an eyewitness receives), biased lineup/ photo array composition, biased administrators of lineup can negatively influences Eye ID. The second primary cause of wrongful conviction is due to unreliable or improper forensic science and forensic misconduct. The supernatural poem The White Witch by James Weldon Johnson gives us an insight to what lay behind the curtains during the Harlem Renaissance. The poem takes a real life situation of the era, white women luring black men to their death via false blame, and portrays it as a fairy tale. Using symbolism, white women are represented by an attractive and powerful witch who takes the black men as prey to portray the message of how deceiving and evil white women were to falsely blame African American men of ... Johnson s description of the witch s features became the most significant facet of the story, especially the significance attaches to color symbolism: Her lips are like carnations red, / Her face like new born lilies fair, / Her eyes like ocean waters blue... (13 15). J. Johnson uses the power of imagery here by depicting the evil witch as a shockingly beautiful lady. He utilizes similes to convey that she is gentle looking and captivating. With this image in mind, Johnson also makes it clear that looks can be deceiving: The great white witch you have not seen? ...Like nursery children you have looked For ancient hag and snaggled tooth; But no, not so; the witch appears In all the glowing charms of youth. (7, 9, 10, 11, 12) The evil force of women in this time does not appear to look like what you would assume. She is youthful, not old and snaggled toothed. Through this we can see that the theme is the portrayal of a black man that has fallen victim to the witch s power, and is now warning his brothers and friends. White women that had power over black men, and even black women, abused their privileges and the people in the lower class were the ones affected. In analyzation, the connotation aspect of this poem is how women during this time, specifically white women, used their power over black men and their freedom. At Dewey s laboratory school, he used democratic education ideas. He wanted to change the minds of the students as well as the teachers. Education is a process of living and not a preparation for future living. When Dewey says this, I think he is saying that schools should be a place for the students to learn what they like and how they can contribute to society.
