Ray Bradbury Influences
Ray Bradbury is known as one of the most influential writers in the science fiction genre. His most
famous works Fahrenheit 451 and Something Wicked This Way Comes incorporate common
science fiction themes but are made to be something even more interesting with Bradbury s unique
style and ideas. Although he is most well known for his science fictionnovels, he also wrote within
the genres of fantasy and horror. Bradbury would often incorporate all three genres in one novel to
create a work that truly went with the ideas running through his head. Ray Bradburyinfluence the
science fictiongenre through his distinct writing style, use of children as symbols, and his use of
influences from the world around him to criticize modern warfare.... Show more content on

He was able to instill fear in his readers through writing about things that hit close to home;
however, he could offset the despair with humor. Many science fiction authors set their stories
on other planets or in a different realm, but to Bradbury, science fiction is not the progress of
science projected into alternate worlds, but rather dealing with the impact of various forms of
technology on societies that are familiar to the reader (Wolfe 104). Many of his stories are set in
small town USA or in a futuristic, war torn society that truly isn t an unimaginable possibility for
our world. His strength as a writer was most obvious in the fact that he wrote about things his
readers truly cared about, such as the fundamental fears and longings, not things many choose to
distract themselves with like sports, politics, and crime (Knight 4). Even through the fear and
sadness of his novels he can turn a stock situation inside out; even invest it with a degree of
humor (Peirce 65). In many cases there would be a character ur situation to relieve the tension of
the story and give the reader a break from all the emotional

Road Trip Narrative Essay
When i was in 6th grade my family and I lived in Gainesville, Missouri and my grandparents
wanted to take us on a road trip, so I had to save up two hundred dollars because me and my
sisters were going on a road trip to Monroe, Louisiana with our grandparents. I remember my
grandparents giving my sisters and I a piggy bank that counts our money so everytime we would
but money in it would tell us our balance. I can remember how excited we were about them we
would just take our money out and reset the piggy bank and put all of our money in them and
watch the numbers go up. When the trip was a couple months away my grandparents got scammed
and the scammers took 2,000 dollars it was devastating because we had to wait to go on the trip so
they could get more money. When there was 2 days till we left we all was very excited and all
were packing up our clothes into bags and suit cases. We packed our snakes and charged up our
tablets so we would be ready. I can remember how hard it was to fall asleep that night, it was like I
drinked 10 cups of coffee because how excited we were. The morning had finally came we all woke
up very early sowe would have everything ready to pack into the car and not leave anything behind.
We were all waiting for my grandparents to show up and pick us up so the road trip could begin.
When they finally arrived we all helped loading the car and off we were. The road trip was very
excited we saw things that we haven t seen before, in fact it was the

Product Features Of The Home Appliance Industry
2.Durable Household industry overview The home appliance industry is a multi billion dollar
industry which includes the Major Appliances (refrigerators, cookers, dishwashers, washing
machines dryers), Small Appliances (Vacuum cleaners, iron, accessories) and Home Comfort
products (air conditioners, water heaters). Home appliances industry competes on the basis of:
Cost structure that impacts the ability to compete on price. Product features that can provide
a competitive advantage, through innovation Brand names recognition as a strong basis in the
consumer driven appliance market. Kahn (2015) states that over the last five years the Industry
revenue increased 5.5%, reaching $191.3 billion in 2015, expecting an annualized 3.8% grow over
the next five years, representing industry revenue of $230.3 billion in 2020. As it is illustrated in
figure 1, the industry consists in five major players that account for about 39% of industry market
share in a low level of concentration industry that varies between market segment and by region,
experiencing consolidation mainly due to company efforts to build economies of scale and scope,
with significant merger activity (Kahn 2015). To increase profit margins, home appliance
manufacturers are aiming to build sales volume especially in emerging markets, increasing
productivity and moving production to regions with lower cost labour; and/or through the
acquisitions of local companies. 3.Companies background Knowing the

Quality Issues in Management
Quality Issues in Management Education
The concept of global village and the revolution in the area of information technology is increasing
integration of economies around the globe and attainment of global competitiveness has become a
necessity for the survival and growth, business paradigms are shifting continuously providing
enormous amount of creative opportunities to grasp the future. In the era of global
competitiveness, we have to exercise utmost care to safeguard India s interest to see that India does
not loose in the international arena. In the era of these fast emerging changes, there is a need for
future global managers with qualities and competencies in global perspective.
In management education, quality has become a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Total quality management should be inducted to make the management education effective. TQM is
a style of management that has worked for several decades overseas and is receiving growing
attention in the United States. Now some colleges and universities are beginning to recognize that
TQM values are more compatible with higher education than many existing management systems.
In India, All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) is entrusted with the responsibility of
regulating, controlling ensuring the quality of management education in the country. The formation
of National Board of Accreditation (NBA) the of workshops that it had organized have contributed
substantially to widespread awareness concern for the quality of management education, but can the
AICTE in all honesty, claim that their approvals would result in quality management education of
global standard.
According to Bill Gates, The chairman of Microsoft Corporation, U.S.A., You need to have
specialized knowledge a skill while maintaining a broad perspective...No one should assume that the
expertise he has today will suffice tomorrow, so a willingness to lean is critical . This statement is
also resulting in a need of quality improvement with the change. So a strong relationship exists
between the principles of Total Quality Management the best practices of management education.

Analysis Of The Book A Good Story
A good story, in my opinion, will have certain elements that keep a reader interested. Of course
the most obvious of those is the story line itself. No one will continue to read if they are not
intrigued by the plot. Secondly and equally important are the characters. Even if the story is
captivating there is little interest in continuing on if the characters are not either incredibly likable
or easily feared or hated. A strongly developed character will always keep a reader following along.
In this particular instance its the monsters that makes the play.
When it comes to the topic of monsters, most of us will readily agree that they are bad. Where this
agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of what makes a monster. Although... Show

In order to show the importance of a reader response to a story, I will attempt to show how at least
three characters in Shakespeare s The Tempestcould have been perceived as the monster of the tale.
Stephen T. Asma writes that good monster stories can transmit moral truths to us by showing us
examples of dignity and depravity without preaching or proselytizing. (pg 64) Considering that
people can live by very different morals, monsters can be seen in so many different forms. The
Tempest is a perfect example of this. There are at least fifteen characters in the play and of those
characters there are at least three that can be viewed as being a monster or at least possessing some
monster like qualities.
One of the most obvious choices as the monster of the play could be Antonio. He can be found
to say Nobel Sebastian, thou lett st thy fortune sleep die, rather; wink st whiles thou art waking.
(2.1.210) in reference to the sleeping King Alonso. Antonio makes this comment to the king s
brother, in order to convince him that murdering the king is his best chance of taking the throne
for himself. In Act 3, scene 3 Antonio can again be seen speaking of the king s murder when he
speaks the line, I am right glad that he s so out of hope. Do not for one repulse, forgo the
purpose that you resolved t effect.(3.3.11) In some opinions a person who is lacking morals and
has become so greedy that they are willing to plot and plan a murder can be viewed as the most

Ethnic Background Essay
I was born into a mixed family much like Tiger s. My mother s father was Chinese American,
orphaned by his birth family and raised in the South. My mother s mother was African American
and, following the family legacy, she received a degree from Fisk University in Nashville, TN.
My relatives were instrumental in the foundation of the Avery Normal Institute in Charleston, SC,
an educational institute for African Americans founded in 1865 (now associated with the College
of Charleston). My mother grew up in a segregated society where choices were rarely available.
She received her Master s degree in Library Science from HBC University. My father s familyis of

Ironically, since acquiring my husband s last name, people assume and accept without hesitation
that I m Irish. I have curly hair like a good Irish girl or often hear, Susannah O Connor sounds like
a good Irish name. Judging by my married name alone, I have been shuffled into the Irish American
Caucasian check box.
I was raised in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. Silver Spring was a diverse community,
our neighbors were Yugoslavian, Korean, Italian, and included many others. There were many
ethnic specific markets and restaurants near our house where we tried many different foods. Our
community pool was located in a conservative orthodox Jewish section of Silver Spring. Outside
of swim season, our family was included in many Passover seders, sukkoh parties and Bar/Bat
Mitzvah s through relationships developed on our swim team. I felt comfortable in our culturally
dynamic neighborhood and felt fewer pressures to be classified into a specific ethnic category.
When I was in middle school my father inherited his parent s house and our family made an
uncomfortable transition to Chevy Chase, Md. In contrast to the Silver Spring community, Chevy
Chase is a White, upper class, wealthy suburb of Washington, DC. Many of our neighbors belonged
to one of the three local country clubs that, until just a few years ago, did not admit minorities.
Other than neighborly requests for babysitting duties, our

Pros And Cons Of Texting On Writing
In the academic article Does Texting Affect Writing? Michaela Cullington weighs the pros and
mostly cons on texting hindering your formal writing. A college level paper is to be considered
the first step in writing at a scholarly level by experts. In high school we write for the recreation
with genres like short stories or poems. In college we are expected to write more for rhetorical
analysis or things that don t include your personal point of view. Texting hasn t been around and as
trendy as it is now as the average person doesn t start texting until their freshman year of high school
. Texting use to be frowned upon as a sort of childish thing but as Cullington states ...and is even
becoming popular in the business world because it allows quick messages to be sent without people
having to commit to a telephone conversation.
Early on Cullington gave us all the contrary implications of texting s effect. Things like Textspeak
or abbreviations and acronyms used in student s formal writing are some of the many negative
connotations of texting. For example teachers we finding that student were using slang like GTG
which is short for the phrase got to go peppered through writing samples. Another disagreement she
had was with the student s misuse of or lack thereof punctuation in their writing. Because texting
doesn t emphasize the importance of the correct punctuation in writing students overlook the simple
things in writing formally. She also feels, like many others, that

Analysis Of Outcasts In Gregory Boyle s Tattoos On The...
Outcasts in society are in need of love and compassion. In the book Tattoos on The Heart by
Gregory Boyle, Father Greg gives gang members an opportunity to better themselves by providing
them with jobs. Attention makes gang members realize they are worthy.
Giving gang members attention makes them apprehend that they are worthy. Yolanda, an active
woman from the parish, expressed to Speedy, Sabes que, mijo, she says, Te digo una cosa. If
anything happened to you, it would break my heart in two ... You know, he says, tapping his heart
with his finger, That sh*t made me feel good (Boyle 58). Speedy was hanging out with a girl from
a rival gang, which he knew was extremely dangerous, but he didn t care whether he lived or died.
Speedy understood that he was a worthy person when Yolanda expressed to him that there is
people who care for him and his wellbeing.
Gang members recognize they are worthy when they receive attention. Father Greg explains the
reaction Lula, a young ex gang member, had when he states, I roll down my window and catch his
attention Hey, Lula. You would have thought I had electrocuted him. His whole body spasmed
with delight to be known, to be called, to hear his name uttered out loud (Boyle 47). Father Greg
acknowledged Lula and made conversation with him. This made him feel happy because Father
Greg knew who he was and took the time to converse with him. Even the smallest form of attention
can help a gang member understand they are someone who

pain. She looks at the world before her filled with no sorrow, grief, happiness, anger, color. The
world before our own was filled with no emotions, our world before the creation of feelings and

this when we forget the colors in the world. When the colors blur once again in true emotion.

brown red. The rabbit was alive, she looked at the rabbit hop away rapidly which caused her to

and help. One by one she found more animals that were on the brink of dying and gave them
locks of her hair which made them alive again. She continued to give them color until her hair

The Bronze Horseman Essay
In the poem, The Bronze Horseman, Pushkin crafts the legend of Saint Petersburg in which he
displays the city as an unnatural force. Although this poem consists of fantastical elements such as
when the Bronze Horseman comes to life and chases the main character, Evgenii, the poem is not
simply a story of magic and mayhem. As the poem progresses, it becomes clear that that the city of
Saint Petersburg presence defies nature and leads to the unfortunate events that occur throughout
the poem. Furthermore, Pushkin explores the role the government plays in the citizens lives. At the
beginning of the poem, a massive flood wipes out the town and one of the only things that remains
standing is the Bronze Horseman. While the citizens livelihoods are drowned, the government
remains above them and in safety from the rushing waters below. The flood demonstrates Mother
Nature s attempt to reclaim... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Evgenii discovers that his love, Parasha, has died in the flood, Evegenii withdraws from
society. He questions religion, the government, and becomes a stranger to the world. When
Pushkin explores the idea of madness that seemingly goes hand in hand with the legend of Saint
Petersburg, a question arises: is Evegenii heartbroken and speaking from a crippling mind,or has
his pain led to an enlightenment of society s flaws? The government can control the people s social
status, and living conditions, but the one thing the government cannot control is the intricate works
of an individual s mind. While the government can influence their thoughts, it is up to the person
to decide what they believe. The government promises to protect the people but fail Evegenii.
Because of this, Pushkin signifies how Evegenii s position comes from a reasonable source of
disappointment in his leaders. Therefore, what is seen as madness to some, is in reality just a

Sand Country Almanac Review
In A Sand Country Almanac by, Aldo Leopold, he talks about the sky, and the horizon but also
explaining how a new day has begun . He talks about the ice age and the history explaining the
change of our generations. He expresses how beautiful nature is, and the need to preserve it, for
example, there are no words to describe the beauty of nature. Due to a glacier, one fell and crushed
a valley that had soon slowly started filling with water; this is explaining the change that had
occurred from long ago to how it is now. In Land Ethic it talks about evolution and how it was
studied. He talks the relations between people and their society but also the specific role people
had, due to the Golden Rule. There are two Kinds of Ethics Leopold talks about, which are
ecological and philosophical. Ethic is carried in a way to be a connection with people and the
land, for example they think the people will start to feel more of an authority to care and respect
for natural resources. He wants everything to stay in balanced, but with humans, they are producing

Decriminalize Marijuana for the Good of America
Decriminalize Marijuana for the Good of America Currently, drugs remain high on the lists of
concerns of Americans and are considered one of the major problems facing our country today.
We see stories on the news about people being killed on the street every day over drugs. To many
people drugs are only an inner city problem, but in reality they affect all of us users and non users.
I believe that the negative affects we associate with drugs would be greatly reduced if the United
States adopted a policy towards the total decriminalization of marijuana. The current drug policy of
our government is obviously failing. Drug laws have created corruption, violence, increased street
crime, and disrespect for the criminal justice system.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If marijuana is legalized, many project that lung cancer will increase as the amount of marijuana
use increases (Miner 44). These are all valid arguments, but cigarette smoking is legal, a
booming business, and causes the same exact problems. There are a number of myths associated
with the use of marijuana and its effects on your body which people who are opposed to its
decriminalization repeatedly cite. One of these in that Marijuana causes brain damage. This
claim is based on a study of the rehus monkey by Dr. Robert Heath in the late 1970 s. Heath s
work was criticized for its insufficient sample size (only four monkeys), its failure to control
experimental bias, and the misidentification of normal monkey brain structure as damaged (Hager
1). Actual studies of human populations of marijuana users have shown no evidence of damage
to the brain (Hager 1). In fact, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA)
conducted two studies in 1977 and they showed no evidence of brain damage in heavy users of
marijuana (Hager 1). Later that same year the AMA came out in favor of the decriminalizing of
marijuana (Hager 1). That seems to me that the AMA wouldn t do that if it thought marijuana was
damaging to the brain. Another myth is that marijuana damages the reproductive system. This is
based on the work of Dr. Gabriel Nahas, who experimented with tissue cells isolated in petri dishes.
The cells were dosed with near lethal

Handful recalls, She [Sarah Grimke] was trapped same as me, but she was trapped by her mind,
by the minds of the people round her, not by the law. At the African church, Mr. Vesey used to
say. Be careful, you can get enslaved twice, once in your body and once in your mind (Kidd
201). Handful s spiritual growth allowed her to escape both mental and physical bondage, because
she carefully listened to the words of Mr. Vesey, paid close attention to her mother s words, and
studied her owner s (Sarah Grimke) thoughts on slavery and her own freedom.
Sarah Grimke is a nonfictional character in Wings. She was born in 1792 and was a member of
a wealth and prominent family in Charleston, South Carolina. Handful is a fictional character
who discerns that Sarah didn t like owning slaves. An example of this is made apparent during a
discussion Sarah has with her mother when she says Mother, please, let me......let me give Hetty
back to you. Upon contemplating her words Sarah then thinks, Give Hetty back. As if she was
mine after all. As if owning people was as natural as breathing. For all my resistance about
slavery, I breathed that foul air, too (16). Handful intuitiveness assisted her in seeing that Sarah
was a slave also. She said to Sarah, My body might be a slave, but not my mind. For you, it s the
other way round (201). Mentally, Grimke was a slave to man s laws, as she had to contend with
the owning a slave opposed to being a physical one.

Vengeance At Wuthering Heights, By Emily Bronte
Vengeance at Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte, includes character with vengeful motivations during two
generations of conflict. The novel exhibits vengeance by Heathcliff towards several people, but his
main motives are towards Edgar Linton, who married Catherine Linton, when Heathcliff loved
Catherine. Mr. Heathcliff s evolving vengeance started with Hindley Earnshaw, Catherine s brother.
Edgar Linton despised Heathcliff due to talking harsh to his wife and his daughter. While there are
several conflicts in the story, the main conflict is the rivalry between Heathcliff and Edgar Linton.
The vengeance Heathcliff seeks towards the Lintons is caused by his love for Catherine Earnshaw,
who later becomes Catherine Linton Senior. Heathcliff basically kidnaps both Cathy and Nelly
in order to have Linton Heathcliff, Heathcliff s son, to wed Cathy Junior, ... As to your promise
to marry Linton, I ll take care you shall keep it: for you shall not quit this place till it is

Food And The City Summary
With a growing world population of over seven billion, the high producing agriculture industry is
becoming detrimental to the environment by most commonly effecting the freshwater needs, soil
quality, air pollution, energy consumption, the loss of habitat, and the health of the consumers.
However, there is a solution to this problem that goes beyond just the nutritional facts: urban
farming and mass organic foodproduction. Food and the City by Jennifer Cockrall King and Lentil

challenges and solutions to organic food production in the major cities and the midwest United

The author describes a global food revolution that began years ago from New York and Paris to
London and Toronto. Consumers are becoming aware of the food they are purchasing at their
local grocery store and realizing the grocery store is just a facade. Many small time organic farms
started disappearing because of the mass producing large scale industrial farms which became
possible after the industrial revolution. Large scale industrial farms are producing food in large
quantities with low quality while polluting the earth and harming consumers because they are
focused on one thing: profit. It makes it difficult for grocery stores to say no to these industrial
farms just because of how cheap and convenient their product is. It also allows the grocery stores
to supply produce year round that normally would not be in season in a specific area. The
sustainable factors and health of the consumers and the planet were of no concern when it came
to higher produce yields and lower costs for both the conventional industrial farms and grocery
stores. In 1996, industrial farms introduced genetically modified crops to increase yields and
make more profit. Since then, more than 70% of foods produced contain genetically altered
ingredients which has led to consumers being more prone to illnesses like cancer, diabetes, and
obesity. This idea from Food and the City makes me furious because there are so many processed
foods today that are hard to get away from. Mass industrial farms and manufacturers have found
ways to extend food s shelf life and alter the basic ingredients that would normally be considered
healthy. With all of the additives, who knows what the food actually is and the harm it could do to

How Did Eli Whitney Impact The Invention Of The Cotton Gin
American society was hugely impacted by Eli Whitney s invention of the cotton gin because it
changed the way cotton was separated, in turned made cotton production easier and made cotton
plantations spread across the South. This increased the need for slavery and caused a bigger wedge

In the South, during the late 1700 s, tobacco became a less lucrative crop, and it also laid waste to
the land robbing it of nutrients. Other crops of the period, hardly made any profit for the southern
plantation owners. It was then believed that the slave was no longer earning enough for the
landowner to pay for the upkeep and the end to slavery may have been near until a little invention
changed all that. The cotton gin was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A direct effect of the cotton gin was the need for more slaves to pick cotton since it was so easy
to separate, they now could work in volume. Consequently, more cotton crops caused more
demand for cheap labor and the role of slaves. Even though, the invention of the cotton gin
decreased the amount of labor, that was needed to separate the cotton from the seed, the caused
an increase in the cotton crops across the South. This provided a need for more slaves to pick
those crops. After the Proclamation of 1763 had been nullified, the land west of the
Appalachians began to be settled as well as the land from the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. The
new, rich land began to be worked for the new cash crop of cotton as well as the increased
demand for slaves to cultivate the soil and pick the cotton. From 1790 to 1808 the South brought in
80,000 more slaves before the Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves outlined in the Constitution
came into effect January 1, 1808. One third of the southern population, after the cotton boom, were

Wireless Led Dot Matrix Notice Board
INTRODUCTION
This project implements the concept of wireless technology and LED scrolling display to
construct an energy efficient and versatile electronic notice board for institutional purpose. The
system uses dot matrix LED panels to construct a horizontal display module in which any kind of
messages can be displayed and scrolled. The message to be displayed can be send wirelessly from
a remote computer with the help of wireless RF transmitter and receiver. This system is also
equipped with the RFID technology for institutional applications in which any student can be
logged in using his unique ID to view his academic status like percentage of attendance, exam

The approximate time is 20ms so if the light is turned on at a frequency gt;50Hz (1/20ms) then
your eye will not notice any flicker at all. Multiplexing uses this fact to reduce the number of
pins needed to drive an LED display. You can do this by splitting the 32led displays into 7 rows
and 5columns which lets you drive it using 7 row outputs and 5 column outputs. In fact the 5x7
led matrix block used here has all the leds arranged in this way already.
Each row is driven in turn and as long as all of the rows are driven within a time period of 20ms it
will appear as though the LEDs are on continuously. To turn a specific led ON , data is output to
the column drivers when a row is driven.
To save more pins it is common to use a helper chip and in this project it is a Johnson counter (a
4017). This generates a walking one every time that it s clocked. Since you only want one row
on at a time it is the ideal chip for this application. In this project when the 4017 has been reset it
outputs logic high at Q0 which is not connected so during reset the 4017 does nothing. This
allows you to use the column driver port for something else if you want to when you are not
driving the LEDs.To drive the 4017 all you need is two pins one for reset and one for clock. So to
fully drive the 32 matrix led display you need only 4 4017.
The most difficult thing about using the dot matrix LED display is defining the characters.

The Mountain Man Brewery Company
Mountain Man Brewery Company was founded by the now retired President and owners Oscar
Prangel, in 1925. Oscar formulated an old family recipe with flavorful hops and barley that
developed to become what is now known as West Virginia s beer. Time had progressed and
Mountain Man Brewery had become a thriving business and a common beerof choice amongst the
working class men beer drinkers. In the 1960 s Mountain Man Brewery had established a well
respected brand throughout the Central Regions, beginning with West Virginia, and expanding
to Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan. By 2005, Mountain Man Brewery Company had made
profitable footprints with financial revenue of $50 million dollars and sells of over 520,000
barrels of its unique family beer. As time had progressed on, new trends of beer drinkers
transitioned a decline in sells performance for the first time ever in Mountain Man Brewery
Company. The decline revealed a weakness within the company that only bought forth fear of the
unknown future of the company s product and brand. Oscar had recently hired the next
generation on MMBC his son Chris to manage the marketing operations. Chris had presented to
his father the possible expansion of introducing a new beverage of choice for the upcoming beer
drinkers. Recent research amongst beer drinker s uncovered potential growth for MMBC and the
fear of eroding the historical brand of loyalty. Chris had researched a strategy to position MMBC

Leadership Styles, Leadership, Transformational Leadership...
Have you ever had a leader that inspired you to develop your own leadership traits? A leader is
someone who demonstrates what s possible (Mark Yarnell, 2015). There are numerous leadership
styles. Each of the numerous leadership styles can be beneficial if utilized in an appropriate means.
I have chosen three leaders and their unique leadershipstyles to discuss in this paper. The unique
styles that will be discussed are situational leadership, transformational leadership, and laissez faire
leadership. I will also discuss each leader s approach, their fundamental leadership principles, and
how each leader used their style within their profession.

If Powell was not open to the ideas and opinions of his troops, many more deaths could have
occurred. Powell was supportive of his troops during training times. He would make the decisions,
but they had the control. Powell was always supporting his troops and giving them motivation in
any situation. The last quadrant is delegation, which Powell did not use much during his military
career as he needed to be the one in control at all times as the leader.
Fundamental Leadership Principles Colin Powell has thirteen rules that he follows when it comes
to being an effective leader:
1.It ain t as bad as you think. It will look better in the morning.
2.Get mad, then get over it.
3.Avoiding having your ego so close to your position that when your position falls, your ego goes
with it.
4.It can be done.
5.Be careful what you choose: you may get it.
6.Don t let adverse facts stand in the way of a good decision.
7.You can t make someone else s choices. You shouldn t let someone else make yours.
8.Check small things.
9.Share credit.
10.Remain clam. Be kind.
11.Have a vision. Be demanding.
12.Don t take counsel of your fears or naysayers.
13.Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier. (Powell, 2012)

Abstract: The knowledge of the existence of bacteria can be traced back ages, however their
existence can be traced to the very start of planet Earth. The project focused on surfaces with
constant physical human interaction and the growth of bacterial colonies in indoor environments.
The process centered on the use of Aseptic technique to collect samples of bacterial colonies on the
locations we hypothesized contained the highest number of bacterial colonies. Three trials of each

Not only do these pose a threat of illness but identification of the pathogen would prove timely and
pose a serious threat to the public.
Therefore, it is vital to research the number of bacterial colonies located in common everyday
surface faced with constant human contact. We hypothesize that the door handle will house more
bacterial colonies than the those of the elevator door due to the constant physical interaction with
the door handle through various means. The independent factor is this experiment is the selection
of the location and the dependent factor is the number of bacteria colonies.
Materials and Methods
Four different bacterial species were incubated in prepared in nutrient rich media Tryptic Soy
Agar (TSA) plates. While preforming Aseptic technique we will use 1 capped test tube of
sterilized water and sterile cotton swabs to extract Bacteria from the surfaces. A sterile cotton
swab was dipped into the sterile water solution and carefully swabbed onto the TSA plate in a Z
motion, to place the bacteria onto the plate. Foremost the cotton swab was dipped into the sterile
water test tube and Z streaked on a TSA plate, this was the control of the experiment and to
determine if contaminates were already located in the test tube. Afterwards the same procedure
was repeated in different sources to obtain three trials of each location for a total of two different
locations followed by the control. The bacteria were incubated by the TA at 37 ЛљC for 2 3

General Motors Oligopoly Essay
The average level of profit per annum is approximately $5.02 billion USD. As shown by the table
above, the average revenue, $39 256.20, is significantly greater than the average total costs,34
289.20. Although we cannot ascertain what the level of normal profit for General Motors truly is,
considering the revenue earned is approximately $5 billion greater than the total costs, General
Motors is clearly charging significantly more for vehicles than just the price that covers costs.
Thus there is a presence of abnormal profits proving that the firm is operating in an oligopolistic
market. Additionally, the firm s ability to charge a significantly greater price for each unit sold,
shows its price making behavior in the industry. Often firms will drive down prices to intentionally
ensure new entrants in the market cannot sustain this loss of revenue. However the fact that there
has not been any significant price reductions in the past years of operation proves that the threat of
competition is not enough to force prices down towards normal profit levels and there are thus high
barriers to entry.
3. Non Price Competition
As previously discussed, prices in the automotive industry tend to stick at their current set price
and only increase or decrease within a small range. Since firms in an oligopoly do not compete by
adjusting the price of their products, they compete using non price related methods.
To begin, one way in which General Motors broadens its consumer base is

It is anticipated that 4G speeds could be as high as 100 Mbps. Thus, 4G will represent another
quantum leap in mobile Internet speeds and picture quality. Ericsson confirms that 4G could bring
connection speeds of up to 50 times faster than 3G networks and could offer three dimensional
visual experiences for the first time. The following graph represents what has been the typical
progression of wireless communications:
Quality of Service Challenges In wireless networks, Quality of Service (QOS) refers to the
measure of the performance for a system reflecting its transmission quality and service
availability (e.g., 4G is expected to have at least a reliability of 99.99%). Supporting QOS in 4G
networks will be a major challenge. When considering QOS, the major hurdles to overcome in 4G
include: varying rate channel characteristics, bandwidth allocations, fault tolerance levels, and
handoff support among heterogeneous wireless networks. Fortunately, QOS support can occur at
the packet, transaction, circuit, and network levels. QOS will be able to be tweaked at these
different operating levels, making the network more flexible and possibly more tolerant to QOS
issues. Varying rate channel characteristics refers to the fact that 4G applications will have varying
bandwidth and transition rate requirements. In order to provide solid network access to support the
anticipated 4G applications, the 4G networks must be designed with both flexibility and scalability.

Color Theory Research
Color fills our world with beauty. We delight in the colors of a magnificent sunset and in the
bright red and golden yellow leaves of autumn. We are charmed by gorgeous flowering plants
and the brilliantly colored arch of a rainbow. We also use color in various ways to add pleasure
and interest to our lives. For example, many people choose the colors of their clothes carefully and
decorate their homes with colors that create beautiful, restful, or exciting effects. By their selection

Such objects as traffic lights and neon signs appear colored because the light that they give off
contains a limited range of wavelengths. However, most objects appear colored because their
chemical structure absorbs certain wavelengths of light and reflects others. When sunlight strikes a
carrot, for example, molecules in the carrot absorb most of the light of short wavelengths. Most of
the light of longer wavelengths is reflected. When these longer wavelengths of light reach our eyes,
the carrot appears orange.
An object that reflects most of the light of all wavelengths in nearly equal amounts appears white.
An object that absorbs most of the light of all wavelengths in nearly equal amounts appears black.
How we see color
The roles of the eyes and brain. Our ability to see color depends on many highly complicated
workings of the eyes and brain. When we look at an object, light coming from the object enters
our eyes. Each eye focuses the light, forming an image of the object on the retina. The retina is a
thin layer of tissue covering the back and sides of the inside of the eyeball. It contains millions of
light sensitive cells. These cells absorb most of the light that falls on the retina and convert the light
to electrical signals. These electrical signals then travel through nerves to the brain.

Archetypes Used In William Blake s Poetry
William Blake was one of the most influential writers to come from the romantic period. Writers
and artists who rose from this time period were more free spirited and focused more on
philosophy than religion. LIke many from his time, William Blake wrote about society and
nature; what was in his heart. All the knowledge I possess everyone else can acquire, but my
heart is all my own (Wolfgang von Goethe). This statement represents the way of thinking in the
romantic era, writes such as Blake wrote what was in their own hearts. Blake is most well known
for his use of archetypes in his writings. Archetypes are ideas with emotional power, plot pattern, or
character types, usually in a symbolic form. In William Blakes four poems: The Lamb, The Tyger,

In this poem, innocence is represented by the lamb. The poem, in its entirety, uses childlike
techniques and a soft, defenseless animal as his archetype to show innocence. The poem uses
repetition and simple words to declare its purpose. These points are shown when William blake
states, Little Lamb who made thee Dost thou know who made thee. (Page 748 Line 1) The
archetypes in this poem represent the idea of innocence. The idea of innocence comes from Blake
s Songs of innocence and songs of experience.
In contradiction, William Blake s poem, The Tyger, shows the use of archetypes through the
tyger. The tyger, himself, is a symbol for anger, power, and strength. Unlike, The Lamb, this
poem uses a more complex writing style. This poem differs from, The Lamb, in writing styles,
for example, Blake doesn t use repetition in this poem. This poem has a more mature and
complex meaning, it is more serious and dark. In this poem, Blake questions God s motives when
he says, Did he smile his work to see? Did he who made the Lamb make thee? (Page 749 Line

normal at the time and succeeded. My recreation of the RedRoom uses the same intensity of color,
line, shape, form, texture, space, unity, balance, contrast, emphasis, rhythm, and proportion to
represent the greatly valued art piece. The Red Room is an oil on canvas artwork that is
exceedingly two dimensional while still showing examples of space. The art portrays a woman
setting up a table within a highly saturated red room. The table and the wall paper are almost
indistinguishable if it weren t for the thin wobbly line that differentiated them. A blue branch like
pattern spans from the bottom of the canvas to the top while staying in the range of the table and
wall. Also part of the pattern are vases of flowers that are additionally outlined in black. On the
table are various circular fruits, mainly in the color yellow, green, orange, and red. Beside the fruit
are long round bottomed vases that are half full of some sort of elixir. The fruit and vases were
common to see in Matisse s work during that period, Matisse turned to a motif common in the
works created that year: a room decorated with

Diabetic Travel Tips
When packing for a trip, most people only have to worry about making sure they have the right
clothes to wear, makeup and such. When traveling with a diabetic, there are more important
things to worry about. As a mother of two type 1 Diabetics and a wife of a type 2 diabetic, I have
learned many tricks. Here are 5 tips that might help others while packing. 1). Make sure that you
have plenty of insulin, test strips and needles. Also, be sure to pack a container in which to throw
away used needles. Try to pack double what you need, such as two bottles of Novolog, two
bottles of Lantus, etc. in case one of the bottles get broken. Or, you might want to ask your
physician to write out a spare prescription just in case a bottle breaks. The reason... Show more

I am sorry to say that there is much hard work for little benefit. Don t get me wrong, in my 20+
year career I have had the opportunity to travel to incredible destinations and I wouldn t trade my
career as a travel agent or working in the travel industry for anything. The biggest reward for me is
making someone s dream trip come to fruition. In an industry that is challenged by the Internet, it
is imperative for anyone who wants to be a travel agent to be well versed in geography, up to date
on current events and sensitive to the diverse cultures of the countries that your clients are
interested in traveling to. A travel agent on top of their game possess the ability to address the
distinct needs of each customer and delivers high quality responsive service. Without this ability,
the travel agent loses to the internet every time. The Internet is a powerful tool and can make
researching a destination quick and easy. Can a client go to the Internet and access the same
information that you can? Most definitely. So you ask, how can a travel agent be competitive? The
key to this is service. Most travelers are not interested in booking their dream vacation through an
entity that is intangible. Basically, they want someone who they can rely on and hold their hand
through the entire process. The following information can help you understand what it takes to be a
great travel agent. A good travel agent learns the ins and outs of the industry. This means
understanding every component that goes into a travel package such as air, hotel, car, transfers,
tours, etc. Learn the industry lingo. Understand the difference between an FIT and an escorted tour.
Knowing what resources to use and getting the information quickly to your client will give them the
confidence that they have made the right choice in coming to you to

Persuasive Essay On Abdominoplasty
Many people who reside in Orange County, including the city of Irvine, find that their midsection is
the most difficult area of their body to trim and tone. This troublesome fatty tissue and sagging skin
around the midsection can occur following weight loss and/or pregnancy. Furthermore, studies
indicate that genetics can play a role in whether an individual accumulates fatty tissue in the
abdominal area. Today, that fatty tissue that is resistant to diet and exercise can be addressed with
an abdominoplasty(tummy tuck surgery). Moreover, the excess, loose skin is also removed during
this procedure. Following a tummy tuck, an individual has the firmer, flatter midsection that he or
she desires. Dr. Farbod Esmailian is a double board certified... Show more content on

Therefore, even individuals who follow a strict diet and exercise routine can have excess abdominal
fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. These individuals should consider having a tummy tuck to
attain the flatter, toner looking abdomen they deserve.
A TUMMY TUCK WITH DR. ESMAILIAN, NEAR IRVINE
An abdominoplasty generally takes two to three hours to complete. Patients do receive anesthesia
and since this is an outpatient procedure each patient must bring his or her own driver to the
surgery center on the day of the procedure.
When Dr. Esmailian performs an abdominoplasty, his primary goal is to eliminate the excess fat
and skin on the abdomen to provide the patient with a stomach that appears flat, smooth and toned.
During an abdominoplasty, Dr. Esmailian s experience, skill and expertise allow him to make
incisions in such a way as to minimize trauma, lower the incidence of complications and
substantially improve a patient s comfort as he or she

Arthur Dimmesdale Dbq
Question 1 In The Scarlet Letter Arthur Dimmesdale s sin of concealment leads to his downfall.
Arthur Dimmesdale had an excellent reputation in town as a Puritan minister, however
Dimmesdale himself bore a lot of guilt because he was keeping his sin, his affair with Hester
Prynne, a secret. Dimmesdale and Hester had a baby. Hester was punished as an adulterer,
however she refused to say who the baby s father was. Dimmesdale knew that his reputation would
be ruined if the Puritan people found out his sin. Arthur Dimmesdale s guilt began to destroy him.
In chapter 11 it says, In Mr. Dimmesdale s secret closet, under lock and key, there was a bloody
scourge. Oftentimes, this Protestant and Puritan divine had plied it on his own shoulders, laughing...

This is because Hester was becoming more known for her embroidery skills and her helpfulness
to the townspeople. Hester went from being seen only as her sin, adultery, to being seen as an
actual person who was able to support herself. In chapter 5 it says, She possessed an art that
sufficed, even in a land that afforded comparatively little scope for its exercise, to supply food for
her thriving infant and herself. It was the art then, as now, almost the only one within a woman s
grasp of needle work. This example shows that Hester was able to support herself and her

3d Printer Essay
3D Printer With Dad
The day finally came, I walked over to my front door and excitement filled my face as I saw a big
brown box sitting on my porch. I screamed, Dad Guess what!
What, my Dad screamed, I screamed again, The 3D printer came. As I open the front door, the
alarm system screams, Front Door, I run outside and grab the package and run back inside. At this
moment I was literally going to scream just out of excitement because the printer finally came. I ran
to the junk drawer trying to not slip in my socks, and I grab my pocket knife to open that box up.
At that moment I could hear Thud thud thud thud, I knew my dad was coming down the stairs. My
dad appeared with his brown hair and Msu sweatshirt. The box also was ... Show more content on

approached him and I asked, How is it going.
My dad says kind of spooked, First wow man don t sneak up on me like that second it s going great
the glue seems to be working out great
Yes I say estatically. At that moment I had a feeling that everything was going to work out just fine.
Done! you will be able to start building ,but don t put the LCD in because that is where the glue is
drying and we don t want to mess that up right.
Right I say in a reassuring voice. So I take up the metallic black frame trying to not let the glue
drip down as I run up the stairs taking two at a time. Once I get up there I start constructing the y
axis and placing the bed. First I started by taking the rods and I slid them through the holes of the
printer and slowly but surely the printer took shape. I slid from building the plate to putting a lcd
screen to actually wiring the 3D printer the last thing left to do was put the power supply. I screwed
in the last few wires for the power supply. I slowly plugged the three pronged plug into the outlet
no sound came there was no whirring of the fans there was nothing the screen didn t turn on we
knew something was wrong ;but my dad wouldn t give up even if I might of wanted to he wouldn t.
I started researching after a while my dad

personality normally like, before she became like this? Stella was not a very nice person. I think
I mentioned the other day that she always looked down on me. I was never good enough for my
wife in her eyes. She liked calling me a Polack and an ape I am neither of those things, but she
always did think of herself as superior. Her bigotry reflected her personality even more so once she
lost everything.
Lost everything? Is that why she moved into your house you didn t actually

East Of Eden Weather Analysis
John Steinbeck has many characteristics that set him apart from other writers. Including his ability
to write many novels and all of them still be of high quality work. Perhaps one of his most notable
traits was his love for writing detailed descriptions of land and weather. The use of natural elements
in East of Eden, allow Steinbeck to emphasize motifs and themes throughout the novel. In the
beginning of East of Eden, Steinbeck can be found giving a detailed description of the two separate
mountain ranges that form the SalinasValley. The eastern mountain range with it s wide range of
magnificent flowers is said by Steinbeck to be lovely, inviting and full of positive energy. These
wonderful mountains are known as the Gabilan Mountains. The range of western mountains is
nothing like the mountains of the east; The western mountain range is described a dark, dangerous
and unfriendly place. This brooding range is called the Santa Lucas Mountains (Steinbeck, 2002,
p.1) These mountains are a symbolic representation of the contrast between good and evil in... Show

Many believe that Steinbeck describes the weather to foreshadow events. In chapter twenty five,
Steinbeck describes the winter weather as being gray, cold, and wet. Chapter twenty five is also
when Steinbeck informs the reader that the beloved Samuel Hamilton passed away (Steinbeck,
2002, p.309). This is accurate foreshadowing because the gloomy weather is associated with
sadness and sorrow which is what everyone felt when Samuel Hamilton died. Another important
event that weather foreshadowed was when Abra arrived on the Trask place. Abra was a source
of competition for the boys for she was one of the only womanly figures in the Trask boys lives
and each boy wanted her all to himself. Just before Abra arrived, a thunderstorm had occurred
where the boys were at. The storm represents the conflict Abra caused between the

CHHI 301 History of the Christian Church I

The Fall of A Great Empire and the Rise of the Papacy
Before the fall of the Roman Empire you must stop and look at the power that was held within the
millions of miles of land, building, people, cities, kings, and customs. The Roman Empire was not
known for being just another city or empire but it was known for its strength, power and victories
in the times of conflict and wars. The roman empire was built up to what it was right up until the
fall by powerful kings and rulers who never imagined that the once untouchable empire would one
day fall but not everyone had that same mind set of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Webster s Dictionary a patriarch is, one of the scriptural fathers of the human race
or of the Hebrew people, a man who is father or founder, the oldest member or representative of a
group, a venerable old man, a man who is head of a patriarchy, any of the bishops of the ancient or
Eastern Orthodox sees of Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, and Jerusalem or the ancient and
Western see of Rome with authority over other bishops, the head of any of various Eastern
churches, a Roman Catholic bishop next in rank to the pope with purely titular or with metropolitan
jurisdiction and a Mormon of the Melchizedek priesthood empowered to perform the ordinances of
the church and pronounce blessings within a stake or prescribed jurisdiction. The authority given
to the archbishops made the most significant bishops throughout all the empire. The archbishops
were spread all throughout the land including Rome, Constantinople, Alexandria, Jerusalem and
Antioch but the issue in this situation was that the east contained four out of the five archbishops
while the west simply had one archbishop, so there was not equal balance to both sides. A great
division began to take place between the two sides as time passed and their political views as
well as their cultural views began to shift and changes began to take place to separate the two
sides. Throughout everything taking place Rome took precedents over all other areas as the
theological headquarters per say. There

  • 2. Ray Bradbury Influences Ray Bradbury is known as one of the most influential writers in the science fiction genre. His most famous works Fahrenheit 451 and Something Wicked This Way Comes incorporate common science fiction themes but are made to be something even more interesting with Bradbury s unique style and ideas. Although he is most well known for his science fictionnovels, he also wrote within the genres of fantasy and horror. Bradbury would often incorporate all three genres in one novel to create a work that truly went with the ideas running through his head. Ray Bradburyinfluence the science fictiongenre through his distinct writing style, use of children as symbols, and his use of influences from the world around him to criticize modern warfare.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was able to instill fear in his readers through writing about things that hit close to home; however, he could offset the despair with humor. Many science fiction authors set their stories on other planets or in a different realm, but to Bradbury, science fiction is not the progress of science projected into alternate worlds, but rather dealing with the impact of various forms of technology on societies that are familiar to the reader (Wolfe 104). Many of his stories are set in small town USA or in a futuristic, war torn society that truly isn t an unimaginable possibility for our world. His strength as a writer was most obvious in the fact that he wrote about things his readers truly cared about, such as the fundamental fears and longings, not things many choose to distract themselves with like sports, politics, and crime (Knight 4). Even through the fear and sadness of his novels he can turn a stock situation inside out; even invest it with a degree of humor (Peirce 65). In many cases there would be a character ur situation to relieve the tension of the story and give the reader a break from all the emotional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Road Trip Narrative Essay When i was in 6th grade my family and I lived in Gainesville, Missouri and my grandparents wanted to take us on a road trip, so I had to save up two hundred dollars because me and my sisters were going on a road trip to Monroe, Louisiana with our grandparents. I remember my grandparents giving my sisters and I a piggy bank that counts our money so everytime we would but money in it would tell us our balance. I can remember how excited we were about them we would just take our money out and reset the piggy bank and put all of our money in them and watch the numbers go up. When the trip was a couple months away my grandparents got scammed and the scammers took 2,000 dollars it was devastating because we had to wait to go on the trip so they could get more money. When there was 2 days till we left we all was very excited and all were packing up our clothes into bags and suit cases. We packed our snakes and charged up our tablets so we would be ready. I can remember how hard it was to fall asleep that night, it was like I drinked 10 cups of coffee because how excited we were. The morning had finally came we all woke up very early sowe would have everything ready to pack into the car and not leave anything behind. We were all waiting for my grandparents to show up and pick us up so the road trip could begin. When they finally arrived we all helped loading the car and off we were. • 6. Analysis Of The Book A Good Story A good story, in my opinion, will have certain elements that keep a reader interested. Of course the most obvious of those is the story line itself. No one will continue to read if they are not intrigued by the plot. Secondly and equally important are the characters. Even if the story is captivating there is little interest in continuing on if the characters are not either incredibly likable or easily feared or hated. A strongly developed character will always keep a reader following along. In this particular instance its the monsters that makes the play. When it comes to the topic of monsters, most of us will readily agree that they are bad. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of what makes a monster. Although... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to show the importance of a reader response to a story, I will attempt to show how at least three characters in Shakespeare s The Tempestcould have been perceived as the monster of the tale. Stephen T. Asma writes that good monster stories can transmit moral truths to us by showing us examples of dignity and depravity without preaching or proselytizing. (pg 64) Considering that people can live by very different morals, monsters can be seen in so many different forms. The Tempest is a perfect example of this. There are at least fifteen characters in the play and of those characters there are at least three that can be viewed as being a monster or at least possessing some monster like qualities. One of the most obvious choices as the monster of the play could be Antonio. He can be found to say Nobel Sebastian, thou lett st thy fortune sleep die, rather; wink st whiles thou art waking. (2.1.210) in reference to the sleeping King Alonso. Antonio makes this comment to the king s brother, in order to convince him that murdering the king is his best chance of taking the throne for himself. In Act 3, scene 3 Antonio can again be seen speaking of the king s murder when he speaks the line, I am right glad that he s so out of hope. Do not for one repulse, forgo the purpose that you resolved t effect.(3.3.11) In some opinions a person who is lacking morals and has become so greedy that they are willing to plot and plan a murder can be viewed as the most ... • 10. Pros And Cons Of Texting On Writing In the academic article Does Texting Affect Writing? Michaela Cullington weighs the pros and mostly cons on texting hindering your formal writing. A college level paper is to be considered the first step in writing at a scholarly level by experts. In high school we write for the recreation with genres like short stories or poems. In college we are expected to write more for rhetorical analysis or things that don t include your personal point of view. Texting hasn t been around and as trendy as it is now as the average person doesn t start texting until their freshman year of high school . Texting use to be frowned upon as a sort of childish thing but as Cullington states ...and is even becoming popular in the business world because it allows quick messages to be sent without people having to commit to a telephone conversation. Early on Cullington gave us all the contrary implications of texting s effect. Things like Textspeak or abbreviations and acronyms used in student s formal writing are some of the many negative connotations of texting. For example teachers we finding that student were using slang like GTG which is short for the phrase got to go peppered through writing samples. Another disagreement she had was with the student s misuse of or lack thereof punctuation in their writing. Because texting doesn t emphasize the importance of the correct punctuation in writing students overlook the simple things in writing formally. She also feels, like many others, that ... Although this poem consists of fantastical elements such as when the Bronze Horseman comes to life and chases the main character, Evgenii, the poem is not simply a story of magic and mayhem. As the poem progresses, it becomes clear that that the city of Saint Petersburg presence defies nature and leads to the unfortunate events that occur throughout the poem. Furthermore, Pushkin explores the role the government plays in the citizens lives. At the beginning of the poem, a massive flood wipes out the town and one of the only things that remains standing is the Bronze Horseman. While the citizens livelihoods are drowned, the government remains above them and in safety from the rushing waters below. The flood demonstrates Mother Nature s attempt to reclaim... The government can control the people s social status, and living conditions, but the one thing the government cannot control is the intricate works of an individual s mind. While the government can influence their thoughts, it is up to the person to decide what they believe. The government promises to protect the people but fail Evegenii. He talks about the ice age and the history explaining the change of our generations. He expresses how beautiful nature is, and the need to preserve it, for example, there are no words to describe the beauty of nature. Due to a glacier, one fell and crushed a valley that had soon slowly started filling with water; this is explaining the change that had occurred from long ago to how it is now. In Land Ethic it talks about evolution and how it was studied. He talks the relations between people and their society but also the specific role people had, due to the Golden Rule. There are two Kinds of Ethics Leopold talks about, which are ecological and philosophical. Ethic is carried in a way to be a connection with people and the land, for example they think the people will start to feel more of an authority to care and respect for natural resources. Decriminalize Marijuana for the Good of America Decriminalize Marijuana for the Good of America Currently, drugs remain high on the lists of concerns of Americans and are considered one of the major problems facing our country today. We see stories on the news about people being killed on the street every day over drugs. To many people drugs are only an inner city problem, but in reality they affect all of us users and non users. I believe that the negative affects we associate with drugs would be greatly reduced if the United States adopted a policy towards the total decriminalization of marijuana. The current drug policy of our government is obviously failing. Drug laws have created corruption, violence, increased street crime, and disrespect for the criminal justice system.... These are all valid arguments, but cigarette smoking is legal, a booming business, and causes the same exact problems. There are a number of myths associated with the use of marijuana and its effects on your body which people who are opposed to its decriminalization repeatedly cite. One of these in that Marijuana causes brain damage. This claim is based on a study of the rehus monkey by Dr. Robert Heath in the late 1970 s. Heath s work was criticized for its insufficient sample size (only four monkeys), its failure to control experimental bias, and the misidentification of normal monkey brain structure as damaged (Hager 1). Actual studies of human populations of marijuana users have shown no evidence of damage to the brain (Hager 1). In fact, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) conducted two studies in 1977 and they showed no evidence of brain damage in heavy users of marijuana (Hager 1). Later that same year the AMA came out in favor of the decriminalizing of marijuana (Hager 1). That seems to me that the AMA wouldn t do that if it thought marijuana was damaging to the brain. Another myth is that marijuana damages the reproductive system. This is based on the work of Dr. Gabriel Nahas, who experimented with tissue cells isolated in petri dishes. The cells were dosed with near lethal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Handful s spiritual growth allowed her to escape both mental and physical bondage, because she carefully listened to the words of Mr. Vesey, paid close attention to her mother s words, and studied her owner s (Sarah Grimke) thoughts on slavery and her own freedom. Sarah Grimke is a nonfictional character in Wings. She was born in 1792 and was a member of a wealth and prominent family in Charleston, South Carolina. Handful is a fictional character who discerns that Sarah didn t like owning slaves. An example of this is made apparent during a discussion Sarah has with her mother when she says Mother, please, let me......let me give Hetty back to you. Upon contemplating her words Sarah then thinks, Give Hetty back. As if she was mine after all. As if owning people was as natural as breathing. For all my resistance about slavery, I breathed that foul air, too (16). Handful intuitiveness assisted her in seeing that Sarah was a slave also. Food And The City Summary With a growing world population of over seven billion, the high producing agriculture industry is becoming detrimental to the environment by most commonly effecting the freshwater needs, soil quality, air pollution, energy consumption, the loss of habitat, and the health of the consumers. However, there is a solution to this problem that goes beyond just the nutritional facts: urban farming and mass organic foodproduction. The author describes a global food revolution that began years ago from New York and Paris to London and Toronto. Consumers are becoming aware of the food they are purchasing at their local grocery store and realizing the grocery store is just a facade. Many small time organic farms started disappearing because of the mass producing large scale industrial farms which became possible after the industrial revolution. Large scale industrial farms are producing food in large quantities with low quality while polluting the earth and harming consumers because they are focused on one thing: profit. It makes it difficult for grocery stores to say no to these industrial farms just because of how cheap and convenient their product is. It also allows the grocery stores to supply produce year round that normally would not be in season in a specific area. The sustainable factors and health of the consumers and the planet were of no concern when it came to higher produce yields and lower costs for both the conventional industrial farms and grocery stores. In 1996, industrial farms introduced genetically modified crops to increase yields and make more profit. Since then, more than 70% of foods produced contain genetically altered ingredients which has led to consumers being more prone to illnesses like cancer, diabetes, and obesity. This idea from Food and the City makes me furious because there are so many processed foods today that are hard to get away from. Mass industrial farms and manufacturers have found ways to extend food s shelf life and alter the basic ingredients that would normally be considered healthy. • 20. How Did Eli Whitney Impact The Invention Of The Cotton Gin American society was hugely impacted by Eli Whitney s invention of the cotton gin because it changed the way cotton was separated, in turned made cotton production easier and made cotton plantations spread across the South. This increased the need for slavery and caused a bigger wedge between the North and the South. In the South, during the late 1700 s, tobacco became a less lucrative crop, and it also laid waste to the land robbing it of nutrients. Other crops of the period, hardly made any profit for the southern plantation owners. It was then believed that the slave was no longer earning enough for the landowner to pay for the upkeep and the end to slavery may have been near until a little invention changed all that. The cotton gin was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A direct effect of the cotton gin was the need for more slaves to pick cotton since it was so easy to separate, they now could work in volume. Consequently, more cotton crops caused more demand for cheap labor and the role of slaves. Even though, the invention of the cotton gin decreased the amount of labor, that was needed to separate the cotton from the seed, the caused an increase in the cotton crops across the South. This provided a need for more slaves to pick those crops. After the Proclamation of 1763 had been nullified, the land west of the Appalachians began to be settled as well as the land from the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. The new, rich land began to be worked for the new cash crop of cotton as well as the increased demand for slaves to cultivate the soil and pick the cotton. From 1790 to 1808 the South brought in 80,000 more slaves before the Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves outlined in the Constitution came into effect January 1, 1808. Multiplexing uses this fact to reduce the number of pins needed to drive an LED display. You can do this by splitting the 32led displays into 7 rows and 5columns which lets you drive it using 7 row outputs and 5 column outputs. In fact the 5x7 led matrix block used here has all the leds arranged in this way already. Each row is driven in turn and as long as all of the rows are driven within a time period of 20ms it will appear as though the LEDs are on continuously. To turn a specific led ON , data is output to the column drivers when a row is driven. To save more pins it is common to use a helper chip and in this project it is a Johnson counter (a 4017). This generates a walking one every time that it s clocked. Since you only want one row on at a time it is the ideal chip for this application. In this project when the 4017 has been reset it outputs logic high at Q0 which is not connected so during reset the 4017 does nothing. This allows you to use the column driver port for something else if you want to when you are not driving the LEDs.To drive the 4017 all you need is two pins one for reset and one for clock. So to fully drive the 32 matrix led display you need only 4 4017. The most difficult thing about using the dot matrix LED display is defining the characters. Basically for ASCII characters ... As shown by the table above, the average revenue, $39 256.20, is significantly greater than the average total costs,34 289.20. Although we cannot ascertain what the level of normal profit for General Motors truly is, considering the revenue earned is approximately $5 billion greater than the total costs, General Motors is clearly charging significantly more for vehicles than just the price that covers costs. Thus there is a presence of abnormal profits proving that the firm is operating in an oligopolistic market. Additionally, the firm s ability to charge a significantly greater price for each unit sold, shows its price making behavior in the industry. Often firms will drive down prices to intentionally ensure new entrants in the market cannot sustain this loss of revenue. However the fact that there has not been any significant price reductions in the past years of operation proves that the threat of competition is not enough to force prices down towards normal profit levels and there are thus high barriers to entry. 3. • 36. Archetypes Used In William Blake s Poetry William Blake was one of the most influential writers to come from the romantic period. Writers and artists who rose from this time period were more free spirited and focused more on philosophy than religion. LIke many from his time, William Blake wrote about society and nature; what was in his heart. All the knowledge I possess everyone else can acquire, but my heart is all my own (Wolfgang von Goethe). This statement represents the way of thinking in the romantic era, writes such as Blake wrote what was in their own hearts. Blake is most well known for his use of archetypes in his writings. Archetypes are ideas with emotional power, plot pattern, or character types, usually in a symbolic form. In this poem, innocence is represented by the lamb. The poem, in its entirety, uses childlike techniques and a soft, defenseless animal as his archetype to show innocence. The poem uses repetition and simple words to declare its purpose. These points are shown when William blake states, Little Lamb who made thee Dost thou know who made thee. (Page 748 Line 1) The archetypes in this poem represent the idea of innocence. The idea of innocence comes from Blake s Songs of innocence and songs of experience. In contradiction, William Blake s poem, The Tyger, shows the use of archetypes through the tyger. The tyger, himself, is a symbol for anger, power, and strength. Unlike, The Lamb, this poem uses a more complex writing style. This poem differs from, The Lamb, in writing styles, for example, Blake doesn t use repetition in this poem. This poem has a more mature and complex meaning, it is more serious and dark. In this poem, Blake questions God s motives when he says, Did he smile his work to see? • 38. The Art And Reflection Of The Red Room The rich raspberry red blanketed over the canvas is more than enough to entice it s viewers. The Red Room, made by Henri Matisse in 1908 is and has been a highly popular piece of artwork. The art piece captured what it meant to be a fauvist artist with its bright colors and unrealistic appearance. Matisse and other fauvist artists decided to go against what society decided was normal at the time and succeeded. My recreation of the RedRoom uses the same intensity of color, line, shape, form, texture, space, unity, balance, contrast, emphasis, rhythm, and proportion to represent the greatly valued art piece. The Red Room is an oil on canvas artwork that is exceedingly two dimensional while still showing examples of space. The art portrays a woman setting up a table within a highly saturated red room. The table and the wall paper are almost indistinguishable if it weren t for the thin wobbly line that differentiated them. A blue branch like pattern spans from the bottom of the canvas to the top while staying in the range of the table and wall. Also part of the pattern are vases of flowers that are additionally outlined in black. On the table are various circular fruits, mainly in the color yellow, green, orange, and red. Beside the fruit are long round bottomed vases that are half full of some sort of elixir. The fruit and vases were common to see in Matisse s work during that period, Matisse turned to a motif common in the works created that year: a room decorated with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the beginning of East of Eden, Steinbeck can be found giving a detailed description of the two separate mountain ranges that form the SalinasValley. The eastern mountain range with it s wide range of magnificent flowers is said by Steinbeck to be lovely, inviting and full of positive energy. These wonderful mountains are known as the Gabilan Mountains. The range of western mountains is nothing like the mountains of the east; The western mountain range is described a dark, dangerous and unfriendly place.
