Violence In The Outsiders By S. E. Hinton
In the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton shows that fights create more violence and can even lead to
tragedy. The narrator Ponyboy, a greaser was scared for when Johnny got jumped Ponyboy reflected
on his feelings in chapter 1, I had never been jumped, but I had seen Johnny after the after four Socs
got hold of him, and it wasn t pretty. Johnny was scared of his own shadow after that. He was sixteen
then. (Hinton 4) This quote is an example that fights and violence can lead to tragedy because after
Johnny had been jumped by the Socs he was terrified and scared of his own shadow. He had to start
walking with a group of people. This also happened at an early age so Johnny was scared after a
while, he was scared of his own shadow after he got jumped This scene had me thinking about Johnny
in the beginning of the book because he was only young and was just walking home and was jumped
and attacked by four people scaring him for the rest of the book. ... Show more content on

I fought, but the hand at the back of my neck was strong and I had to hold my breathe. I m dying, I
thought. The next thing I knew I was laying on the pavement beside the fountain, coughing water and
gasping, I lay there weakly. (56) This quote is an example of violence because he was being attacked
and there was fighting, which lead to an event in the next quote showing how it lead to tragedy
because Bob was slowly dying. And eventually died. It also shows how they were fighting and then
lead to a big cause where he had died because of the violence that was happening to

The Gas Ladies And Gentlemen
Both S. A Novel About the Balkans by Slavenka Drakulic and This Way for the Gas, Ladies and
Gentlemen by Tadeusz Borowski are novels that tell the tale of those who were victims of some of the
worst crimes ever committed in human history. The main characters of each novel are subjected to
terrible conditions but nevertheless both defeat the odds and survive. Survivors of such events often
struggle to deal with their past. The authors of each novel deal with this struggle in different ways
through the characters.
In her novel, Slavenka writes in a dynamic way about the women s rape camps established Bosnia
during the Bosnian War in the early 1990 s. The main character of the book is a woman named S. who
was a normal well respected school teacher. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
face similarly deplorable conditions but they both still survive. This is only because they take a
number of measures to ensure that they survived. Borowski saved food for himself even when he had
enough that he could have spared. He did not give food to those who he knew were going to die
because he knew it would just be a waste of food. Even though it may have not been the most kind
way of doing things the choices he made were ones that helped him to survive his time in the camp.
The only way that he survived was because others died. It is nearly impossible for one to survive such
conditions and to help others. The only way he survived the camp was through an every man for
himself mentality. After being liberated from the camp Borowski struggled with this survivor s guilt.
Even though the novel is not an exact autobiography it is based on his life inside the camps. Just six
years after being released from the camp Borowski committed suicide. Borowski opened a gas valve
on July 1, 1951 (pg. 11) One can conclude from this suicide that the events from the camp and his own
survivor s guilt most likely contributed to his tragic death. In a similar way S. used makeup to
preserve herself. S. began wearing makeup in the camp as a way to gain power. When she was
wearing makeup she almost had a power over the men that the other women did not have. The other
women could not understand why she was wearing makeup but this was only because they did not that

Essay on The IP Multimedia Subsystem
Abstract The IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) is a Next Generation Network (NGN) that integrates
wireless, wireline and internet technologies. IMS enables the convergence of voice, data, and
multimedia services such as Voice over IP (VoIP), Video over IP, push to talk, presence or instant
messaging services. IMS is almost independent of the access technology and uses a number of
protocols such as HTTP and SMTP while the most important one is called SIP or session Initiation
Protocol. At parallel this open based emerging technology has security challenges from multiple
communication protocols like IP, SIP and RTP etc. Because of the nature of the IMS (IP based), these
networks will inherit most of the security threats that these protocols are ... Show more content on

Therefore a more secure and robust security framework is needed to be implemented.
We have followed an experimental approach to implement a security model for the IMS.
In this paper, the IMS security is discussed in detail. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of
security threats to IMS network. A proposed IMS security model is discussed in detail to protect the
IMS services and resources from these threats.
The rest of the paper is organized as follows. Section II presents an overview of the IP Multimedia
Subsystem with special consideration given to security while section III describes related work about
IMS security. Section IV and V describes the existing and proposed security solutions. The conclusion
is given in section IV The last section ends with the future work.
II. AN OVERVIEW OF THE IP MULTIMEDIA SUBSYSTEM ARCHITECTURE
IMS architecture supports a wide range of services that are enabled based on SIP protocols. IMS
network architecture has three layers (Device Layer, Transport Layer, and Control Layer) plus the
service layer as shown in the figure below. An overview of these layers as shown in figure is given
below.
Device layer: This layer of the IMS architecture provides the user the facility to select from end point
devices such as computers, mobile phones, PDAs, and digital phones etc. These devices are able to
connect to the IMS infrastructure via the Network. Other devices like traditional analog

Essay on Valkyrie – A Film Review
A fanatically hysteric romantic with a brutal will, this is how Karl Alexander von Muller, described
the personality of Adolf Hitler. Throughout Hitler s reign, people close to him had the same outlook
towards him, like von Muller, and many officers and generals plotted to kill the dictator. The plot that
came closest to succeeding was Project Valkyrie, which was the subject of the 2010 film Valkyrie .
The film incorporated many aspects that are historically accurate, despite a number of minor historical
flaws. However, there are some instances where poor concepts are shown in the film as well. The
historical accuracy of the film can be demonstrated by showing its plot, setting and characters. A
significant strength Valkyrie has in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both in the movie and in history, the conspirators planned to use this document after killing Hitler to
manipulate the Reserve Army into removing the power of the SS, Gestapo, and SD on the basis that
these three groups were attempting to seize power. (http://www.valkyrie plot.com/1942.html) In
addition, the elements that ultimately lead to an unsuccessful assassination attempt of Hitler are
mostly all followed exceptionally. For example, the director expertly conveyed the hesitation and lack
of cohesion between people involved in the plan to kill Hitler. The hesitation of General Olbricht and
change of heart by General Fromm severely crippled Project Valkyrie. On one hand, Olbricht was very
stubborn and reluctant to put the plan into effect because he did not have absolute confirmation that
Hitler was killed by the blast at the Wolf s Lair. On the other hand, Fromm vehemently rejects their
plan when it is put into effect and forced Colonel Claus Von Stauffenberg to arrest him in order to
advance in Project Valkyrie. These two events resulted in a major setback both in the film and during
the past event in history. However, he did have minor plot omissions about how the plan to kill Hitler
went wrong as well. Mainly the events that resulted in Hitler switching meeting places slightly
diverted from the path of history. In history, the meeting place was switched to a more open
conference

The Collective History Of Scotland
Both Robert Burns and William Wordsworth use the past in their poetry to inspire readers to change
their future but the two poets go about it in very different ways. Burns focuses on the collective
history of Scotland, drawing on its folk songs, national heroes and culture to create revolutionary
sentiment in his readers. Wordsworth sits at almost the other end of the spectrum he focuses in on the
past of individuals and how their futures could be changed through their mind sets.
Unlike Wordsworth, who forges a connection with nature through quiet contemplation and observation
of the natural world, Burns connection with nature is mediated through his experiences working on
farms. This means that both authors approach nature and the Earth in very different ways. Wordsworth
calls upon the readers to leave the cities they inhabit and to go out into the country, in order to
meditate on the emotions and experiences brought about by truly looking at the landscape. While this
is one way to expand one s mind it was not achievable by most of the urban working class of the time.
Wordsworth, as a member of the upper classes, had more leisure time to go out into the countryside
and there to do but experience the scenery. The Urban working class of this era would not have had
the free time to do so. They were busy working long hours doing hard physical labour almost every
day. To take this time off would have cost them in missed hours they could have been working and
money they could

Comparing Plato And Shakespeare s Rage Against The Machine
Plato and Shakespeare have something in common, not only words, but they also have written
fantastic quotes about how music makes the world turn. If music be the food of love, play on; Give me
excess of it, that, surfeiting,The appetite may sicken, and so die. Shakespeare in Twelfth Night, Act I
scene i ( Musical Quotes and Inspiration. ) Plato said Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the
universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything. (
Plato Quotes. ) You see music ties together many different types of people, poets, philosophers, and
many different cultures. Music has historical lyrics, political meanings, and emotional support for the
people who ask for it or need it. The ancient hawaiians used musicians as historians and their history
was in their chants. People of all cultures in all places still do this in their music. As an example The
song Renegades Of Funk is a song by Rage Against the Machine which surprisingly talks about
historical and scientific things. The song sounds like a song that is just trying to get people up and to
dance. It has hidden historical lyrics and meaning that you may not realize. Rage Against The Machine

Irony In Political System
Obama uses irony to point out the hypocrisy of division in our current political system. By
highlighting the differences between the truth and what politicians say, Obama shows that the
divisiveness in politics is both unnecessary and counterproductive. In his chapter about Democrats and
Republicans, Obama discusses how Max Cleveland, the former Georgia incumbent, a triple amputee
war veteran lost his seat after being accused of insufficient patriotism, of aiding and abetting Osama
bin Laden (29). Obama includes information about Cleveland s past as a soldier in contrast to his
career as a politician to point out the clear contrariety of Cleveland being deemed unpatriotic. It is a
testament to the divided nature of politics that one political

Traditional Gender Roles
Gender roles are the roles that men and women are expected to occupy based on their sex.
Traditionally, many believed that women are more nurturing than men. Therefore, the traditional view
of the feminine gender role prescribes that women should behave in ways that are nurturing. One way
that a woman might engage in the traditional feminine gender role would be to nurture her family by
working full time within the home rather than employment. Men, on the other hand, are presumed by
traditional views of gender roles to be leaders. The traditional view of the masculine gender role,
therefore, suggests that men should be the heads of their households by providing financial support for
the family and making important family decisions. While these views remain dominant throughout
society, perspectives on traditional beliefs about gender roles have improved throughout the twenty
first century. Gender roles are sometimes created on the basis of stereotypes about gender. Gender

The Movie Goodfellas
Notably, the film Goodfellas is a classic film that is recognized as one of the greatest films of all time
in regards to the crime genre. Indeed, the film Goodfellas is about American citizens who partake in
criminal activity in order to make money. Furthermore, another film was made, shortly after
Goodfellas achieved great success in the box office. Additionally, another film titled The Real
Goodfella is the uncensored documentary explaining the reality behind Goodfellas, and gives a
practical insight of the real dangers that could not be shown in Goodfellas. Also there are two articles
that explain the explicit truth behind the criminal activity that mobsters justify as work. These sources
show that mobsters have a hard time. Mobsters classify as above working class because they
constantly have to steal, murder, and deal drugs just to stay alive and have money. With regards to
Goodfellas, the film starts off by stating that the main character Henry Hill from as far back as he
could remember always wanted to be a gangster, which is another term for mobster. Particularly, he
started off working at the cab stand across the street at just about ten or eleven years old, and the cab
stand was a place where mobsters worked. His parents who were working class citizens, and made
lousy money were happy that he had found a job because his father had always believed that American
kids were spoiled rotten. Furthermore, as he progressed into the field of a mobster living he was

Impacts Of Anthropogenic Activities And Land Use Changes...
Impacts on the forests are increasing as a result of the fantastic growth of human populations and the
global spread of pollutants leading to loss of biodiversity which is one of the most severe threats to
sustainability.
Land use changes have transformed land cover to farmlands, grazing lands, human settlements and
urban centers at the expense of natural vegetation particularly in West Africa. These changes are
associated with deforestation, biodiversity loss and land degradation. The relationships between land
use and biodiversity are fundamental to understanding the links between people and their environment
The aim of this work is to provide a holistic view of the impacts of anthropogenic activities and land
use changes on biodiversity conservation by synthesizing works and facts across a range of different
related research works.
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Biodiversity is the variety of life on Earth. It includes diversity at the genetic level, such as that
between individuals in a population or between plant varieties, the diversity of species, and the
diversity of ecosystems and habitats. (Assefa et al.,2007 )
Biodiversity provides the basis for ecosystems and the services they provide, upon which all people
fundamentally depend. People rely on biodiversity in their daily lives, often without realizing it.
Biodiversity has evolved over the last 3.8 billion years or so of the planet s approximately 5 billion
year history. Although five major extinction events have

The Social Cognitive Theory Of A Dynamic And Reciprocal...
OVERVIEW:
The social cognitive theory in essence is the theory that proposes behavior is a result of personal,
behavioral, and environmental factors that influence each other in a dynamic and reciprocal fashion.
Environments shape behaviors, but individuals have the power to influence the environment as well as
their own behaviors through self reflection and self regulatory process.
Personal factors involve people s thoughts and beliefs about the desired outcomes, their ability to
perform the behavior or self efficacy and ability to take charge. They may also have personal barriers
in the way. In order to overcome these personal factors they will need goal setting, relapse prevention
and reinforcement of positive outcomes. Behavioral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The popularity of this program stems from the focus on behaviors, which are impacted by several
factors. Social cognitive theory states, behavior is the result of personal, behavioral, and
environmental factors that influence each other in dynamic and reciprocal fashion (Contento, 2011).
People s thoughts and feelings, knowledge and skills, and physical and social environment, all impact
the actions, behaviors and choices related towards health and nutrition. Interventions that used social
cognitive theory in the field of nutrition include Challenge!, EatFit, Choice, Control, and Change and
Planet Health. These programs encompass the main principles and strengths of social cognitive theory
and yielded successful results.

program recruited adolescents from low income, urban areas and implemented both home and
community based interventions for a total of twelve sessions (Black et al., 2010). One important
construct of social cognitive theory is observational learning, which Challenge! incorporated by
enlisting African American mentors who attended college. These mentors were crucial because

Discoveries In The Double Helix By James Watson
Discoveries
The Double Helix, written by James Watson, begins with him being 17 years old already heading of to
study at college. He was currently studying at University of Chicago in his 3rd year. He was studying
Zoology and was hoping for a PHD. As a scientist, Watson questioned the essence of life and mostly
how the information of life was copied. Therefore he wanted to be a geneticist. He observed Linus
pauling and his work and applied to caltech but was unfortunately declined. Therefore in Indiana he
went after DNA and its meaning and form. Over this process he worked with many people and came
to many discoveries that help them in their journeys.
A helix
The discovery of the Alpha helix came up when, James Watson was one day alerted that Linus Pauling
had partially solved the structure of proteins. Following up on this James found out that, in on of
Pauling s talks he revealed the alpha helix model. This was a large event in the race for DNA because
Linus was the first person to propose something solidly correct about DNA structure. This new event
however, did not provide a lot of progress for James s work because of at the time how he could not
tell if this suggestion was correct or not. Later on this information did help them because they took on
the helical shape with the addition of x ray evidence.

Warm Hues
Like it was mentioned before, blue is a calming color with an icy undertone, so one of the ultimate tips
that you can do to augment your eye color is to truly use lots of various hues that consist of warm
colors. The colors that are included in this category are browns, tones of an earthy nature and also
some softer colors that would suit your beautiful blue eyes superbly.
7. Simplicity Pays
Blue eyes are naturally beautiful and have an enchanting look that is an instant crowd puller. So
sometimes you don t require tons of eye makeup to surround your eyes, you just need to go simple and
show them off. Earnestly, too much of color and makeup can divert from you re the natural beauty of
eyes.
8. Highlight
Highlight is the need of the hour in the present times. So make sure that you accompany your eyeliner
or eyeshadow with some highlights. The highlights will softly encase your eyes and also vivify them.
The correct way of applying them is to put them just below your brow bones and in the corner on the
inner side of your eyes. You must make sure that you apply a slightly daintier color in terms of
eyeshadow like silver or beige.

Furthermore, the artist does not take any money for his work input, but only for the manufacturing

the Jewish community in Hamburg is not committed to the negative comments of Killy, but rather

Management Style At Arizona Central Credit Union
Organizational Management Approach Analysis
The management approach of any one organization is unique and varied based on the needs of the
business or the type of organization. When developing this management approach, in my opinion, it is
critical to adapt and to use many sources of knowledge to be successful. These sources of knowledge
can be traced to historical theories that have been developed throughout recent history, and are critical
to the understanding of how practical applications can be successfully used. It is also argued that
modern students of management do not have the practical understanding or awareness of these
historical theories because of the misguided curriculum and lack of interest (Cummings Bridgman,
2011). The purpose of this paper approaches some historical theories in comparison to the modern
management style within a credit union to demonstrate the use of these theories as a management tool.

It is this blind loyalty with which Stevens gratifies his employer and unables himself to look closely at
what his employer really thinks or does (symptoms of dignity ). His doctrine states:
It is, in practice, simply not possible to adopt such a critical attitude towards an employer and at the
same time provide good service. It is not simply that one is unlikely to be able to meet the many
demands of service at the higher levels while one s attentions are being diverted by such matters; more
fundamentally, a butler who is forever attempting to formulate his own strong opinions on his
employer s affairs is bound to lack one quality essential in all good professionals: namely, loyalty.
(Ishiguro, 200)
But the loyalty doctrine denies Stevens his own thoughts on, for instance, Darlington s letting go of
the Jewish maids, or whether or not the great guests he has the honor or serving in his capacity as a
great butler are really so great after all.
Stevens detachment ultimately is chilling, for the distance that he believes is a necessary aspect of
dignity, instead distances him even from the fact that this attitude of detachment is not great, but
unhealthy. This sets a butler s dignity above human dignity, he realizes at the end, and human dignity
must always come first: Lord Darlington wasn t bad man...And at least he had the privilege of being

have not worried about grades up until I saw my brother struggling with long division around age 17,
trying to get into the Army. My brother usually had all D and F s for grades; our childhood was not the
best. I do not blame him for his lack of motivation and urge to do better because no one tried to
motivate him, and simply gave up. In 7th grade, I did not worry about grades because everything just
came to me easily, this stayed the same until 10th grade when we started actual work. I struggled with
math and English because when I had the chance to succeed greater things, I just did what I needed to
pass. Now, I have entirely turned around and am on the A or B honor roll every semester since 9th
grade. I have strived for better grades because that is how I feel achievement. I

The Government Of The United States Should Not Improve The...
INTRODUCTION
Throughout history, many have debated whether or not the government of the United States should do
more to help individuals who are needy or if they should step back and let the individuals help
themselves. Data shows that there are many people who feel strongly about one way or the other and
many that see it both ways. We should identify factors such as age and total family income to see what
affects citizens of the United States to believe one way or the other. I hypothesize that, if an individual
has a higher total family income then they will believe that the government should not improve the
standard of living. I think that if an individual is able to provide a higher family income then they will
think that those poor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many researchers have investigated volunteering and what leads people to volunteer. Studies have
also been done concerning who is deserving of welfare and attitudes that individuals have about the
United States welfare systems. Poverty is something that is so often looked at in many different ways
depending on the society. Stefan Svallfors conducted research in 2004 that compared class, attitudes
and the welfare state in four different countries. Svallfors compared Sweden, Britain, Germany, and
the United States citizens attitudes towards what the government s responsibility is when it come to
helping individuals in need. The author is trying to figure out what factors cause the different attitudes
from different countries. His theory is that as welfare policies differ between countries, it will differ
between class and attitude. He also theorizes that attitudes towards welfare policies could change over
time and as time progresses, the attitude will progress in a different direction among the populations.
The data that is analyzed in this paper comes from the 1996 survey on The Role of Government
conducted within the International Social Survey Programme. This research found that responses
varied between nations and we must consider the living conditions in each country. Sweden was the

The basic physical control is the implementation of security measures in a defined structure used to
deter or prevent unauthorized access to sensitive material ( 1.2.1. Physical Controls , n.d.). Also
physical controls are safeguards to avoid and minimize any security risk the organization have that
involving computer software or even personal property. Some examples of physical control are fences,
security guards, access cards, surveillance cameras, biometrics and locks. Cameras are very important
in an organization. Depending on governing law and the prevailing corporate culture, many companies
have policies which prohibit the taking of pictures on the premises (Seese, 2009). Organization
prohibits the taking of pictures on the premises because when an individual is taking pictures he or she
might be planning on doing harm to the organization. He or she might want to rob the organization
and wants to know how the organization layout looks like from the inside and the outside. Another
reason why taking pictures is prohibited in organization is because the individual could learn where
the surveillance cameras are located, individual could even take pictures with his or her cell phone,
that is why in some organization there is security walking around to prevent any picture to be taken.
There are different kinds of biometrics technologies. One category is physiological and another

Creating Change within Organizations HCS587
David Harrell
16 January, 2012 *
The Concord Bookshop is a small town bookstore with a 64 year history and a cultural appeal enjoyed
by the citizens of the town. In recent years the economic environment created fierce competition for
the bookstore, coupled with a need for innovative technology meant a need for restructuring. The
financial status of the bookshop was in grave distress. Fearing financial ruin the board members made
a unanimous decision to implement significant changes. However, the board did not take the necessary
steps of including the appropriate stakeholders in the change process and obtaining employee support.

Behaviour Change Change can be successful if a company or group within the organization changes
the way an individual presents oneself (Spector, 2010). Behavior change is based on how an
individual works within the environment. The employees of Concord Bookshop were not consulted
therefore did not have an opportunity to verbalize their concerns or provide input to assist the
company to move the bookstore in a new direction. The management team was aware of the financial
distress and was willing to participate in any financial changes required. The employees of the
bookstore had an abundance of knowledge and experience that may have contributed to ending
financial turmoil (Schein, 2011). Open dialogue between the employees and owners may have
facilitated the development and collaboration of new ideas in a competitive environment. The new
strategies could have provided a new direction for the bookstore. According to Burnes, in discussing
Kurt Lewin s Change Model, for change to be effective within a group there has to be a collective
approach by each member of the group (2004).
Conclusion
The Concord Bookshop was a well respected historical bookstore facing financial challenges. While
the bookstore employed knowledgeable and dedicated employees, the owners and board members did

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari was written by Hans Janowitz and Carl Mayer, and directed by Robert

Although the movie was produced in 1919, it was not released in the United States until 1921. A time

When the demonic somnambulist Cesare creeps into Lil Dagover s bedchamber, director Robert
Wiene was exploiting a fear common to us all. Prone and sleeping the woman is uttlerly helpless. She
is carried off into the expressionist labyrinth that Wiene used to symbolize the darkest torments of the
human mind and soul. A beautiful woman is carried off by evil, a play on the
Beauty and the Beast themes that would become so popular in horror films.
Used expressionism, films that explored dream, nightmare and psyche and that found their narrative
shape determined less by action than emotion. Used angular sets and heavy shadows to develop a
macabre and horrific atmosphere for its tale of murder and madness. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
intentionally uses sets that look artificial. The deliberate distortions were meant to portray what a
tormented soul might perceive. German expressionism, known as dada, and surrealism rejected
notions of reality, the German expressionist movement, modern art was underway. Used tilted sets,
and twisted cardboard trees. Light and shadow were used to create a response, and get the viewer
emotionally connected. Two films imported from Germany named Passion and Sumurun starring a
popular actress named Pola Negri opened the door for other German imports. The popularity of Negri
and Caligari combined helped to create a small art house market. The

Online Gambling Enforcement Act Of 2006
Back in 1996, the explosion of online casino gambling swept the world. The United States had been a
large part of this, and many gamblers had turned to online casinos for all of their gaming. For many
years, these casinos continued to be played unabated. Unfortunately, back in 2006, legislation was
passed that made it slightly difficult for online casinos to continue to operate. This legislation, sneaked
in by piggyback through the Safe Port Act, would be named the Unlawful Internet Gambling
Enforcement Act, and it became a thorn in the side of the online gambler, the online casino, and all
payment processors there in.
The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, or the UIGEA, had, in a nutshell,
prohibited banks and payment processors from processing transactions that would correlate to online
gambling. This has not only complicated loading accounts, but also withdrawing. While USA online
casinos have continued to operate, they have had to use payment processors that would circumvent
these restrictions. Sadly, the UIGEA was not even set to go into effect until December of 2009,
thought the implications of the legislation had fall out that would be nothing short of catastrophic for
many online gambling companies, especially those that relied heavily on the United States market.
The UIGEA had hamstrung many of the operations around the world that utilized the American
market in order to stay ahead in profits, all the while keeping losses to a low. The

Heritage Differences In Everyday Use By Alice Walker
Heritage Differences
In the short story Everyday Use , by Alice Walker she represents the conflicts and struggles of the
African American culture in rural Georgia around the early 1970 s. Alice Walker introduced 4 main
characters; Mama and her two daughters, Maggie and Dee as well as Dee s boyfriend Hakim a barber.
Mama is the narrator of the story, she is both a mother and father to her daughters as she is uneducated
but worked years of physical labor and lives in poverty. Maggie is the youngest daughter who s shy
and lives with Mama, she lacks confidence and is unable to be open nor make eye contact with the
people talking to her. Mama s older daughter, Dee who renamed herself as Wangero Leewanika
Kemanjo is educated, determined, and confident. She declares that she is the one who is looking at the
important aspects of her family history and Mama and Maggie aren t aware of it. Everyday Use carries
many different meanings that highlight the issue of how things are used on an everyday basis.
Understanding their family African heritage was a big concept for Dee. As Mama and Dee had two
different opinions about heritage which caused conflict about whom should keep the quilts from
Maggie and Dee. Everyday Use is a focus on the bonds women have between different generations
and legacies for example, the Quilts. Mama and Maggie see a different usefulness to the quilts
compared to Dee, the quits represent matters such as reading, race and class, among others.
Quilting in Everyday Use symbolizes family heritage. They are a history of papers in fabric that vary
over generations. They symbolize the family s history of pride, poverty and struggle. Mama and Dee
have different perspectives on what the quilts mean to the family heritage. As to Mama, the quilts have
a special significance; when she goes to touch them, she is feeling the people who represented them,
the ones who worked on them in her family. It represents the bond between women of different
generations in their family. The quilts to Mama don t only represent her understanding of heritage but
also shows how she s connected to them with her family. I took it for a moment in my hands. You didn

Smoke Signals Sparknotes
Smoke Signals is about two Native American friends, Thomas Builds A Fire and Victor Joseph, from
the Coeur D Alene Indian Reservation in Plummer, Idaho who go on a journey to Phoenix, Arizona to
retrieve Arnold Joseph s ashes (Victor s dad). Arnold was an alcoholic who left Victor and his mother
as a child, but saved Thomas as a child. Victor and Thomas were raised on the reservation, yet they
grew into two different personalities. The first part of the movie shows an authentic portrayal of life
on the reservation through Victor and Thomas. The second part of the movie shows the journey taken
by Victor and Thomas and their arrival to Phoenix, AZ. The last part of the movie shows Victor and
Thomas journey back to Idaho. Throughout the whole movie, life on the reservation is shown through
various stories and flashbacks. The portrayal of life on the reservation is not romanticized, nor is it
criticized; life on the reservation is shown truthfully. There were problems then and there still are
problems now with alcoholism, broken families, and a sense of abandonment. Alcoholism in
communities, like the one portrayed in the film, causes a large ripple through everyone, their family
and their tribe. It broke Victor and Thomas families, as Victor s dad ran away due to actions he
committed under intoxication and Thomas parents died in an accident that involved alcohol. Victor s

Abstract: Agriculture uses 85% of available freshwater resources worldwide and this percentage will
continue to be dominant in water consumption because of population growth and increased food
demand. In India agriculture, primarily depends on the monsoon, which is not a sufficient source of
water. So irrigation is employed in the agriculture area. This paper targets to offer a cloud based drip
irrigation system to aid the farmers. The proposed system uses a microcontroller, sensors, and a cloud
server to provide real time network with field over a Wi Fi network. The proposed system aims to
conserve water up to a large extent by providing automatic and manual modes of irrigation. The
system can be monitored by the user on an android application.

Summary Of Cimabue s Virgin And Child Enthroned
Cimabue created Virgin and Child Enthroned in about 1280, while Giotto di Bondone, an Italian
painter and architect, created his Virgin and Child Enthroned between 1305 and 1310 (Stokstad
Cothren, 548, 550). The two paintings have various similarities. However, the most obvious
similarities are that both focus on Mary and the Child Jesus, are long and pentagon shaped, and
include figures of angels and prophets. In addition, both paintings have a sort of Byzantine influence
(Cimabue s painting more than Giotto s), including the golden backgrounds and the hierarchy of the
figures ( The Ognissanti ). However, there are many noticeable differences between the paintings as
well. In this discussion post, I will be focusing on three major differences: the portrayal of Mary; the
positioning of Mary and Jesus; and the placement of the angels and prophets (including where the
figures are looking).
Before I begin discussing the specific differences between the two paintings, it is important to mention
that the painting styles of Cimabue and Giotto differed significantly. Cimabue painted with a more
Gothic and Byzantine style. His figures tended to be two dimensional and thus his paintings looked
rather flat. He made his figures very elongated and stylised, which was common among Gothic and
Byzantine artists at the time ( Biography of Giotto ). Giotto, on the other hand, while being slightly
influenced by the Gothic and Byzantine style, largely deviated from the traditional

To An Athlete Dying Young
It is known for a fact that the clutches of death are inescapable and permanent, however death may
sometimes fall short when it comes to the life of an idea or memory as these can live on forever. In A.
E. Housman s poem To an Athlete Dying Young , it is the memory of a brilliant athlete that will be
lauded for many generations to come. A. E. Housman achieves the somber and reverent memory of
the young athlete, who had met their untimely demise, by the use of strong characterization, poetic
devices, and themes.
Characterization in this poem truly helps the reader understand what the town had lost and how the
townspeople, including the speaker, feel about the young athlete s passing. In relation to the athlete,
the speaker is one who has had some first hand experience watching the athlete perform and even
celebrating the athlete as Housman writes, We chaired you through the market place (l.2). The reader
is also able to see the speaker as a sympathetic and realistic character. The speaker s sympathy is best
seen at the mention of bringing the young athlete to their final resting place. The realistic nature of the
speaker is seen throughout the poem, especially when Housman wrote, smart lad to slip betimes away
(l.9); this leads to the understanding of how the young athlete is able to uphold his, unsoiled, good
name and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first stanza paints a celebration for the athlete that had won the town the race . The indication of
heavy celebration to heavy mourning shows how strongly the athlete had impacted the town. With the
death of the athlete we brought you shoulder high (l.4); is a piece of imagery that is also double
entendre, as caskets are also held shoulder high. Ultimately these pieces of imagery show how much
the athlete achieved through their short time with the

The Movie Thelma And Louise
I don t care, I love it The film Thelma and Louise is most famous for its ending scene. The iconic
scene of the two girls kissing and driving off the canyon into their death is present even today in pop
culture and referred back by those who liked it. Although the kiss in the scene was not a romantic kiss,
it captured the love between the two girls, not a romantic homosexualised love, but a heteronormal
sisterhood type of love. Also, their faces prove that they died happy, and chose to die not only because
they had no other choice but because that way they had agency as to what would happen to them and
how they would die. The ending is empowering to women, because the women have the power of
choice, even though they die. Unlike other films we have seen in class such as Vertigo and Crouching
Tiger, Hidden Dragon where the women who die do not seem happy or content with their demise.
Throughout the film both Thelma and Louise are fighting against the patriarchy they must endure
daily and a life they no longer want to live, in a society where they cannot fully express who they are.
The women decide to go on a girl s weekend, from there they run into various predicaments that
eventually lead to their deaths. When Louise picks up Thelma, she asks how did Daryll let you come?
and she admits she did not tell him. This moment in the film shows how repressed these women were.
This is a breakthrough for women in film because they begin to have agency, and

The Crusades Essay
In 1095, at the Council of Clermont, Pope Urban II began a striking expedition to Jerusalem in order
to release the city from Muslim control. His moving campaign and the promise of an immense reward
was inspirational to the many willing participants. One must essentially understand that the leaders of
these crusades connected almost every accomplishment to the works of God, and felt a huge moral
obligation to take back what once belonged to Him. The extent of the crusades shows the deep
devotion that most of Western Europe had towards Christianity and the desire to rid the world of
unnecessary evils.
During the Middle Ages, heresy was one of the prime issues that affected the solidarity of the Church.
In order to maintain the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The general consensus of the Western European societies classified their enemies as anyone who
differed even slightly from the Catholic beliefs. Their society appears to be a very strict and conformal
atmosphere in which autonomy did not play much of a role. As such, in regards to the sentencing of
the Count of Toulouse the writings on the crusades contain much information that points to the choice
of conversion or condemnation. Eternal damnation was believed to be the result of a person who did
not show repentance or debarred heresy, and shows no devotion to the cause of reconciliation.
Even though the principal language used throughout the crusades was Latin, the context of it was used
in a multitude of ways. The broad applicability of Latin was used because it was the official language
of the Roman church. The Church was the main source of education and therefore created a web of
writings, textbooks, and biblical translations which allowed much of Europe and Asia Minor to
understand the message of Western Christianity. The direct meaning of the word crusade was taking
the cross though this period was not named as such until later in the sixteenth century. The soldiers of
the Crusades apperceived that the idea of taking one s cross meant to follow Christ, which allowed for
such substantial influence

  • 2. Violence In The Outsiders By S. E. Hinton In the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton shows that fights create more violence and can even lead to tragedy. The narrator Ponyboy, a greaser was scared for when Johnny got jumped Ponyboy reflected on his feelings in chapter 1, I had never been jumped, but I had seen Johnny after the after four Socs got hold of him, and it wasn t pretty. Johnny was scared of his own shadow after that. He was sixteen then. (Hinton 4) This quote is an example that fights and violence can lead to tragedy because after Johnny had been jumped by the Socs he was terrified and scared of his own shadow. He had to start walking with a group of people. This also happened at an early age so Johnny was scared after a while, he was scared of his own shadow after he got jumped This scene had me thinking about Johnny in the beginning of the book because he was only young and was just walking home and was jumped and attacked by four people scaring him for the rest of the book. ... A Novel About the Balkans by Slavenka Drakulic and This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen by Tadeusz Borowski are novels that tell the tale of those who were victims of some of the worst crimes ever committed in human history. The main characters of each novel are subjected to terrible conditions but nevertheless both defeat the odds and survive. Survivors of such events often struggle to deal with their past. The authors of each novel deal with this struggle in different ways through the characters. Even though it may have not been the most kind way of doing things the choices he made were ones that helped him to survive his time in the camp. The only way that he survived was because others died. It is nearly impossible for one to survive such conditions and to help others. For example, the director expertly conveyed the hesitation and lack of cohesion between people involved in the plan to kill Hitler. The hesitation of General Olbricht and change of heart by General Fromm severely crippled Project Valkyrie. On one hand, Olbricht was very stubborn and reluctant to put the plan into effect because he did not have absolute confirmation that Hitler was killed by the blast at the Wolf s Lair. On the other hand, Fromm vehemently rejects their plan when it is put into effect and forced Colonel Claus Von Stauffenberg to arrest him in order to advance in Project Valkyrie. • 6. The Collective History Of Scotland Both Robert Burns and William Wordsworth use the past in their poetry to inspire readers to change their future but the two poets go about it in very different ways. Burns focuses on the collective history of Scotland, drawing on its folk songs, national heroes and culture to create revolutionary sentiment in his readers. Wordsworth sits at almost the other end of the spectrum he focuses in on the past of individuals and how their futures could be changed through their mind sets. Unlike Wordsworth, who forges a connection with nature through quiet contemplation and observation of the natural world, Burns connection with nature is mediated through his experiences working on farms. This means that both authors approach nature and the Earth in very different ways. Wordsworth calls upon the readers to leave the cities they inhabit and to go out into the country, in order to meditate on the emotions and experiences brought about by truly looking at the landscape. While this is one way to expand one s mind it was not achievable by most of the urban working class of the time. Wordsworth, as a member of the upper classes, had more leisure time to go out into the countryside and there to do but experience the scenery. Some examples of physical control are fences, security guards, access cards, surveillance cameras, biometrics and locks. Cameras are very important in an organization. Depending on governing law and the prevailing corporate culture, many companies have policies which prohibit the taking of pictures on the premises (Seese, 2009). Organization prohibits the taking of pictures on the premises because when an individual is taking pictures he or she might be planning on doing harm to the organization. He or she might want to rob the organization and wants to know how the organization layout looks like from the inside and the outside. Another reason why taking pictures is prohibited in organization is because the individual could learn where the surveillance cameras are located, individual could even take pictures with his or her cell phone, that is why in some organization there is security walking around to prevent any picture to be taken. There are different kinds of biometrics technologies. One category is physiological and another category is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Online Gambling Enforcement Act Of 2006 Back in 1996, the explosion of online casino gambling swept the world. The United States had been a large part of this, and many gamblers had turned to online casinos for all of their gaming. For many years, these casinos continued to be played unabated. Unfortunately, back in 2006, legislation was passed that made it slightly difficult for online casinos to continue to operate. This legislation, sneaked in by piggyback through the Safe Port Act, would be named the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, and it became a thorn in the side of the online gambler, the online casino, and all payment processors there in. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, or the UIGEA, had, in a nutshell, prohibited banks and payment processors from processing transactions that would correlate to online gambling. This has not only complicated loading accounts, but also withdrawing. While USA online casinos have continued to operate, they have had to use payment processors that would circumvent these restrictions. Alice Walker introduced 4 main characters; Mama and her two daughters, Maggie and Dee as well as Dee s boyfriend Hakim a barber. Mama is the narrator of the story, she is both a mother and father to her daughters as she is uneducated but worked years of physical labor and lives in poverty. Maggie is the youngest daughter who s shy and lives with Mama, she lacks confidence and is unable to be open nor make eye contact with the people talking to her. Mama s older daughter, Dee who renamed herself as Wangero Leewanika Kemanjo is educated, determined, and confident. She declares that she is the one who is looking at the important aspects of her family history and Mama and Maggie aren t aware of it. Everyday Use carries many different meanings that highlight the issue of how things are used on an everyday basis. Understanding their family African heritage was a big concept for Dee. As Mama and Dee had two different opinions about heritage which caused conflict about whom should keep the quilts from Maggie and Dee. Mama and Maggie see a different usefulness to the quilts compared to Dee, the quits represent matters such as reading, race and class, among others. Quilting in Everyday Use symbolizes family heritage. They are a history of papers in fabric that vary over generations. They symbolize the family s history of pride, poverty and struggle. Mama and Dee have different perspectives on what the quilts mean to the family heritage. Summary Of Cimabue s Virgin And Child Enthroned Cimabue created Virgin and Child Enthroned in about 1280, while Giotto di Bondone, an Italian painter and architect, created his Virgin and Child Enthroned between 1305 and 1310 (Stokstad Cothren, 548, 550). The two paintings have various similarities. However, the most obvious similarities are that both focus on Mary and the Child Jesus, are long and pentagon shaped, and include figures of angels and prophets. In addition, both paintings have a sort of Byzantine influence (Cimabue s painting more than Giotto s), including the golden backgrounds and the hierarchy of the figures ( The Ognissanti ). However, there are many noticeable differences between the paintings as well. In this discussion post, I will be focusing on three major differences: the portrayal of Mary; the positioning of Mary and Jesus; and the placement of the angels and prophets (including where the figures are looking). Before I begin discussing the specific differences between the two paintings, it is important to mention that the painting styles of Cimabue and Giotto differed significantly. Cimabue painted with a more Gothic and Byzantine style. His figures tended to be two dimensional and thus his paintings looked rather flat. He made his figures very elongated and stylised, which was common among Gothic and Byzantine artists at the time ( Biography of Giotto ). Giotto, on the other hand, while being slightly influenced by the Gothic and Byzantine style, largely deviated from the traditional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Housman achieves the somber and reverent memory of the young athlete, who had met their untimely demise, by the use of strong characterization, poetic devices, and themes. Characterization in this poem truly helps the reader understand what the town had lost and how the townspeople, including the speaker, feel about the young athlete s passing. In relation to the athlete, the speaker is one who has had some first hand experience watching the athlete perform and even celebrating the athlete as Housman writes, We chaired you through the market place (l.2). The reader is also able to see the speaker as a sympathetic and realistic character. The speaker s sympathy is best seen at the mention of bringing the young athlete to their final resting place. The iconic scene of the two girls kissing and driving off the canyon into their death is present even today in pop culture and referred back by those who liked it. Although the kiss in the scene was not a romantic kiss, it captured the love between the two girls, not a romantic homosexualised love, but a heteronormal sisterhood type of love. Also, their faces prove that they died happy, and chose to die not only because they had no other choice but because that way they had agency as to what would happen to them and how they would die. The ending is empowering to women, because the women have the power of choice, even though they die. Unlike other films we have seen in class such as Vertigo and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon where the women who die do not seem happy or content with their demise. Throughout the film both Thelma and Louise are fighting against the patriarchy they must endure daily and a life they no longer want to live, in a society where they cannot fully express who they are. The women decide to go on a girl s weekend, from there they run into various predicaments that eventually lead to their deaths.
