The Effects Of Malaria On African Continent And Is...
Malaria is a life threatening disease that is caused by plasmodium parasites transmitted from female
mosquitos when they bite a human. The plasmodium parasite can also be transmitted by blood
products like unclean needles or unscreened blood. There are five parasite species (Plasmodium,
falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, and P. malariae) that cause malaria in humans, and two of these species,
P. falciparum and P. vivax, are the greatest threat (see Figure 1). The severity of malaria is based on
the species of plasmodium. The symptoms people experience include chills, fever, and sweating
usually occurring within a few weeks after being bitten. In the United States, it is a very rare disease
with fewer than 20,000 cases per year, and is treatable by a medical professional. However, Sub
Saharan Africa is home to 88% of malaria cases and 90% of malaria deaths. P. falciparum is the most
prevalent parasite on the African continent and is responsible for most malaria related deaths globally.
P. vivax is more widely distributed than P. falciparum and predominates in most countries outside of
Africa. In the 1970s and 1980s, resistance of P. falciparum started in medicines, such as chloroquine
and sulfadoxine pyrimethamine (SP). Drug resistance has been implicated in the spread of malaria to
new areas and re emergence of malaria in areas where the disease had been eradicated. Population
movement has introduced resistant parasites to areas previously free of drug resistance. Resistance is

Ali Amin Sentenced To 11 Years In Prison Case Study
Should A 17 Year Old Teen Ali Amin Be Sentenced To 11 Years in Prison?
17 year old in Virginia by the name of Ali Amin was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison because of
his support of the terrorist group ISIS. He ran a pro ISIS twitter account and helped an 18 year old
friend escape to Syria to help ISIS battle militants and rebels. Amin, who peaded guilty in June to
conspiring to provide material support to terrorists, tweeted approximately 7,000 times from the
apparently pro ISIS account @AmreekiWitness which had more than 4,000 followers, and has since
been suspended. He also introduced his friend Reza Niknesad to ISIS members online and helped the
18 year old travel and join the militia in Syria. (The Washington Post) Prosecutors =, who described
Amin as a prolific, sophisticated Islamic state supporter sought the maximum sentence of 15 years;
Amins defense attorneys asked for a six year and three month sentence. (The Washington Post) ...

Ali is clearly pro ISIS and his actions were clearly wrong, but should the court be sentencing Ali for
11 years? The first amendment clearly states Congress should make no law respecting an
establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridge the freedom of speech, or
the press; or of the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a
redress of grievances. The major crime was when Ali helped his friend to go to Syria. Having a twitter
account that supports ISIS is not a wrongdoing. It is loathsome, but other groups such as the KKK or
the American Nazi Party are loathsome as well, but not targeted by the authorities. The key to this part
of the case is the fact that the teen provided materialistic support by letting individuals make

Impact of Fire on the Geology of Soils Essay
Fires are an important and healthy process in many ecosystems. The lack of fires can cause new plant
communities to invade an area . The regular occurrence of fires can keep one plant community
dominate, like oak savannas. Fires can leave burnt sticks the size of trees and clumps of charcoal
where bunch grass use to grow, but not for long. An area that was burned will re grow, grasslands will
be green the next growing season and forests will typically show new growth soon after. Somewhere
in the process of a fire the soil it travels over is effected. Alterations happen immediately after a fire
passes over a soil and can continue years after a fire has gone. Soils are impacted in two main ways;
by the entering of nutrients form the brunt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The differences between the two may effect how the alterations of soil are disturbed, but both will
undergo the same general processes.
The heat of a fire has many effects on the properties of a soil. The effects are not the same for every
soil type because it depends on what is present in the soil before the fire. In my paper, I will be
exploring different types of alterations a soil may undergo as a result of a fire. The three main areas I
am going to look at are; change in color and structure, hydrophobic properties after a fire, and the
alteration in nutrient cycles, in particular nitrogen. In conjunction with what changes occur to the
properties of a soil, I will also be looking at management practices that can lessen the undesirable
changes in soil.
Effects on soil color and structure
In heating most substances, change in color and texture or structure occurs, this generally holds true in
the case of soils. A. L. Ulery and R. C. Graham (1993) did a study on how fire alters both color and
texture of soils. The color of the burned soils tended to redden in hue and have higher chromas and
values after burning, than did the unburned soil of the same type (Ulery and Graham, 1993). One
reason that the color changed is most likely due to the translocation and transformation of nutrients
and minerals in the soil. As the soil burns the heat alters individual minerals in the soil. The redder
color in the soil was caused by an

My Goals For This Class Based On The Sensory And Diangelo...
My goals for this class based on the Sensory and DiAngelo reading were to focus less on grades and
more on understanding of the concepts, the second was to strive for intellectual humility by accepting
what I do not know and being open to the concepts I do not know, my last goal was to learn from my
reactions towards subject material the may have bothered me by journaling or researching more about
the topic. (Sensory DiAngelo, 2012) These goals I set for the class were met at times, but at other
times I feel that I did not meet these goals as well as I intended to. The first goal to focus less on
grades was mostly met. I found myself not caring about the grades, but then when I had trouble with a
concept or I found myself taking longer to understand what was being asked of me in the homework
assignment I began to feel like my mark would suffer or that I would get a really bad mark, and
although I never got a very terrible mark, I did find myself focusing on it too much at times. I found it
was easier to focus less on the grade at the beginning and at the end of the semester, so I just need to
work on managing my stress in the middle of the semester to keep myself from nitpicking my grades.
I did find that when I did have the time to write out notes for the readings or even just having notes in
the margins it helped me understand and my grades then reflected that, so for the future I will have to
remember to keep that in mind. For the second goal, which was to strive

One Direction have more released than I count on one hand, Bieber has two, and even Miley Cyrus

Backstreet Boys movie, loyal fans flock to them. So who s next on the list? Well, you re never going
to believe this...but it s a church band. Really, I m not kidding. Maybe you ve heard of them? They go

Essay on The Responsibility of Macbeth for his own Actions
In the Elizabethan Era, society was highly suspicious of the power of supernatural forces and it was
commonly accepted that one s life was governed by fate and was predetermined. Shakespeare s
Macbeth challenges the Elizabethan ideology of fate by privileging that although Macbeth was a
victim of his vaulting ambition (1:VII 27), he was ultimately responsible for his villainous actions.
Shakespeare has foregounded certain events to privilege that a person has free will and a concience
and the cosequences of going against one s conscience, thus challenging the assumption of the
Elizabethan Era. The audience is invited to sympathise with the protagonist, Macbeth, and see him as
a tragic hero. Before his descent into evil, Macbeth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Macbeth then began a series of murders to retain his fruitless crown (3:I 67), to be thus is nothing, but
to be safely thus (3:I 54). It was Macbeth s latent ambition for power that caused his descent into evil.
Shakespeare foregrounds that Macbeth was aware of and resposible for his actions, through
conscience and free will, to illustrate that he was not a victim of supernatural forces. By doing this he
is challeging the assumptions of the Elizabethan Era that supernatural forces and supernatural
soliciting predetermine one s destiny. The hallucinations and ghostly apparitions are foreground not to
illustrate supernatural interference, but to foreground Macbeth s guilty conscience. Macbeth struggles
with his conscience, this humanises him and invites the audience to relate to him. Even before
Macbeth had committed murder, his conscience was causing him to have qualms. One example of this
is in Act One Scene 7, before the regicide of Duncan. We will proceed no further in this business.
(Duncan) hath honoured me of late, and I have bought golden opinions from all sorts of people, which
would be worn in their newest gloss, not cast aside so soon. Macbeth was disinclined to murder
gracious Duncan as he believed him to be a good king (4:III 163), however he still made the decision
to commit regicide. This foregrounds the internal struggle Macbeth endured with his conscience that
makes him a tragic hero. Supernatural elements exist to

Belly dancing in the Ottoman Empire was very common. Sol Bloom was credited with coming up

Arguments For Raising Minimum Wage
Many people experience working minimum wage jobs. Even I have undergone working the tedious,
hard working jobs in which I felt the work and responsibility did not reflect my pay: $7.25. Me, as a
teenager, thought it was hard to manage on the $7.25 minimum wage, but imagine someone who is
working full time and supporting a family on minimum wage it seems impossible. In The New York
Times article, The Case for a Higher Minimum Wage, The Editorial Board argues that the federal
minimum wage of $7.25 should be raised because it could help those who are in need, increase the
productivity of minimum wage employees, and help the American economy; however, conservatives
hinder the process. The Editorial Board makes a strong case to raise the minimum wage to help many
Americans by giving many statistics and facts, and counterarguments, which makes the argument
tenable and plausible. Within the article, many statistics and facts are given to show that the minimum
wage needs to be increased to help many Americans economically. One fact is that approximately 27.8
million people would have a higher wage if the Democratic proposition of raising the minimum wage
from $7.25 to $10.10 ( The Case for a Higher Minimum Wage ). With this fact given in the article, it
shows that a huge number of people could be impacted positivity if the minimum wage were to
increase in the United States. If 27.8 million people receive a high wage, it could change their whole
livelihoods and how they raise

Characteristics Of An Anglo-Saxon Hero In Beowulf
Debi Mazar once said, A hero is somebody who is selfless, who is generous in spirit, who tries to give
back as much as possible and help people. A hero to me is someone who saves people and someone
who really deeply cares. In Beowulf, the Unknown Author of this Anglo Saxon poem, explains the
battle between good and evil. An Anglo Saxon Hero is someone who is loyal, who has honor and
respect, they don t do things for rewards because they ll have that sense of justice which is just as
good. They are never concerned with themselves but the wellbeing of everyone around them and that s
what makes them so great, their selfless acts change lives for the better. Beowulf exemplifies the
characteristics of an Anglo Saxon Hero because he shows bravery and courage in a way nobody else
does, he is honored by all and is beyond selfless.
First of all, Beowulf shows courage and bravery on his way to find Grendel and battle him. He runs
after him to find out where Grendel is going and why he won t let him battle, this shows bravery
because most people don t run towards danger and Beowulf did exactly that. Beowulf runs towards
danger throughout the entire poem, for example in the text it says, Have watched me rise from the
darkness of war. Dripping with my enemy s blood. I drove five great giants into chains, chased all that
raced from the earth, I swam in the blackness of night, hunting monsters out of the ocean and killing
them one by one. (247 254). This is a great quote because it shows how it takes a great amount of
bravery to battle someone that has greater than or equal strength compared to himself,(Beowulf) with
it being night time it was hard to see let alone battle monsters. Another example of Beowulf showing
courage is when he says, He needs no weapons and fears none. Nor will I. My lord Higlac might think
less of me if I let my sword go where my feet were afraid to... (263 264) because this shows that he
doesn t like an unfair fight and believes whatever his opponent has to fight with he should have the
same because that s what a fair fight consist of.
Additionally, a person that has honor is someone who has an obligation to fulfil and they always keep
an agreement. At the beginning of the poem Beowulf was

Psychological Factors Associated With Ptsd
Derealization is the experience that the world is not real; the patient may feel like they are in a dream
world (American Psychological Association, 2013). Psychological Factors Development of PTSD is
not only related to experiencing a traumatic event. There are several psychological factors associated
with development of PTSD. Children that have been exposed to constant trauma and stress are more
likely to develop PTSD then children from more stable home environments. Some studies have even
shown that when fetuses are exposed to maternal stress they will have trouble coping with stress later
in life. Children who come from a poor home environment are particularly susceptible to PTSD
because they never learned successful coping skills. When these children experience a traumatic event
they do not have the tools or support to successfully manage the stress (Halter, 2014, p. 305 307).
Rademaker, Van Zuiden, Vermetten, Geuze (2011) found that certain personality types are more likely
to develop PTSD. Those that exhibit a high amount of neuroticism (anxiety, jealousy, envy, adverse
emotional states) and those that are also introverts are more likely to develop PTSD then others (p.
299). Biological Factors Additionally, PTSD is related to a complex serious of biological factors.
According to Halter (2014) the development of PTSD is related to how the intense trauma causes a
dysregulation that disrupts the integration of neural networks (p.306). What Halter is explaining is

The Power Structured Relationships Within A Patriarchal...
In her text, Millet discusses the power structured relationships within a patriarchal society. She defines
the concept of power as a series of oppressive circumstances between power structured relationships.
In this relationship there is a dominant group and subordinate group. Millet states that the male shall
dominate female, elder male shall dominate younger (Millet 25). Women are oppressed in a
patriarchal society, giving men the power to dominate. The theory of patriarchy is derived from the
creation of social norms based on biological differences between males and females (Millet, 27).
Judith Butler would refer to these norms as the ways in which society believes each gender should
perform. Women are socialized to be loving, affectionate and feminine, while men are more prone to
dominant behavior. This has created cultural expectations that encourage the notion that women are
inferior to men (Millet 31). During child development, family and society have traditionally
encouraged patriarchal structures by reinforcing certain behavior such as aggression in male or
passivity in female. As a result, children develop a core gender identity based on their upbringing.
Children then grow within a culture of sexual hierarchy while maintaining the roles they have been
classified to. As mentioned, Judith Butler would argue that this phenomenon is called gender
performativity. Butler s theory of gender performativity describes the instability of gender and how it

College Is A Waste Of Time Essay
Dale Stephens, founder of Uncollege, a social movement supporting self directed higher education,
has a very strong belief that college is a waste of time. In his opinion piece for CNN appropriately title
College is a waste of time , Stephens shows the downsides of going to college such as the cost of it,
the consequences of failing, and how it does not prepare you for the real world. The Wabash National
study held a survey asking college students and graduates what they came away with out of college.
With all the data they captured, the study concluded that the majority of the groups tested believe the
only things they learned from school were life lessons. The fact of the matter is, although you learn
life lessons throughout your experience in college, ultimately it is a waste of time because it does not
help you much academically.
Sixty two percent of students tested from the survey believed they have moderate to high growth in
moral reasoning. This is a no brainer, seeing that it is a common knowledge that you would pick up by
just going through your life and having form experience. Only twenty one percent of the students said
they have made a contribution to science in college. For something that people go to college for, to
learn and contribute to their specific fields of interest, this number is baffling. Out of 17,000, more
than three fourths of the students believed they have no growth or decline in contribution to the
sciences, coming in close second is

An Analysis Of Patrick Cariou s Canal Zone
Copyright involves the exclusive legal right to reproduce, publish, sell, or distribute the matter and
form of something (as a literary, musical, or artistic work). This enables the creator of such item to
have insurance that no one else can steal or replicate their idea. Copyright has seen some of the largest
court cases of all time where companies have sued millions due to breaches of copyright.
A French photographer, Patrick Cariou, published a book Yes, Rasta (Powerhouse) for a show at
Gagosian Galleryphotographs. The images were of a Rastafarian community in Jamaica.
In 2008 Richard Prince created Canal Zone , which were a series of art works incorporating Cariou s

In April 2013 The SDNY found that most of Prince s works were deemed to be transformative of the
original works to an observer and consequently in fair use. In particular, the Court found that the
lower court erred in requiring that the appropriating artist claim to be commenting on the original
work, and found works to be transformative if they presented a new aesthetic. The court found 25 of
Prince s works to be transformative fair use under fair use. Cariou and Prince have since settled the
case.
Defamation or Libel is a false statement or accusation that harms the reputation of an individual
person, business and much more. In regards to journalism there have been numerous cases in the UK
of a newspaper organisations publishing an article or an image that could be seen as defamatory to
those involved. This has led to numerous court cases against these media outlets due to the defamatory
nature of the publication.
For example, in 2011, Comedian Frankie Boyle, sued The Daily Mirror after describing him as racist
comedian . Boyle said the paper defamed him with an article that was published in on 19 July 2011.
Boyle claimed that the defamatory article cost him his job on the BBC panel show Mock The Week.
The Daily Mirror defended the article they published by claiming it that the racist description was
either true or honest comment on a matter of public interest

What Are The Missteps In The Declaration Of Independence
An Analysis of The Declaration of Independence In the short span of thirteen years; how did the
American colonies go from loyal subjects of King George III, flush in they victory over the French in
the French and Indian War to becoming rebels capable of overthrowing the most powerful government
in the world? It was not one single factor that caused the colonies to rebel, but a number of missteps
by the smug and out of touch English government that caused the colonies to declare their
independence in July 1776. The first missteps that started the revolutionary wheels turning happened
when parliament enacted the Sugar Act in 1764 followed by the Stamp Act in 1765. In the wake of the
French and Indian War, Britain had amassed a massive wartime debt. Parliament thought it only fair
and reasonable the colonies chip in to help pay some of the war debt, considering the war was fought
in their defense. Almost immediately the colonists pushed back. The colonists felt without a colonial
representative in Parliament the taxes were illegal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again too smug and out of touch with the politics and ideals of the colonies, Parliament decided to
give it another go at generating revenue from the colonies. This time parliament enacted the Townsend
Acts in 1767, placing themselves directly behind the colonial mules hind legs. Again the colonists,
fought back with protest and boycotting English goods. There were violent protest within the colonies
most notably in Boston, Massachusetts. Frustrated by the actions of the colonists, the English
government sent in troops to quell the violence and make the colonist submit and obey the law. It was
in response to the Townsend Acts that the Sons of Liberty organized, the Boston Massacre erupted, the
Committee of Correspondence was established and the East India Tea Companies tea was dumped into

The Fall Of Feudalism And The Rise Of Capitalism
The fall of feudalism in the 12th century eventually led to the rise of capitalism. To get there, the first
thing needed was a change in thinking. This began with the scientific revolution, and led to the
Enlightenment in the 18th century. The Enlightenment, also known as the Age of Reason, was
highlighted by individualism, reason, and skepticism. Skepticism caused people to denounce divine
right of kings, thus moving from monarchies to democracies. This desire for knowledge coupled with
the scientific revolution resulted in new manufacturing inventions that made the production process
more efficient and advanced society, this is referred to as the industrial revolution. These major events
altered almost every feature of daily life for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The means of production are everything needed for manufacturing. This includes the factories, the
labor force, and the raw materials. Marx also uses the term social relations of production, which is the
social relationships people enter by being a part of the means of production. The mode of production
¬¬is the combination of social class and the social relations of production of that period in time. These
both establish life in general: the political and social institutions, culture, and ideologies. Marx
believed that you are born into societies where the social relations of production are already
predetermined. This means as a result, things like a person s knowledge, ideologies, and beliefs are
determined by their place in class. There are also other features of society that are an outcome of the
social relations of productions. Things like products and institutions come out the need for them.
Educational institutions come from the need for a higher educated population. Products come from the
need of a product to solve a certain problem.
It is no secret that Marx and Engels believed capitalism was detrimental for society. They believed
capitalism caused alienation feeling of being separated from the world and society you live in in its
workers. Marx distinguished four types of alienation: (1) alienation of the worker from the product of
his work, (2) alienation of the

German and Polish Family History
Family history is something most people do not know much about. This is unfortunate because some
people do not or are unable to value their families past. Family history is important for many different
reasons. It can be used to meet family members a person never knew about and for educational
purpose. I was fortunate enough to have my grandparents still alive to tell me about their great
grandparents and grandparents. I never truly understand how interesting and important it is to know
about where my family came from until I did this project. My family consists of Polish and German

Children were working as young as seven sometimes even younger. Children were also missing school
for work and working long debilitating hours. Children often worked in factories because they were
small and more children could fit intern this would lead to more work getting done. Children also had
smaller hands and this allowed them to fix machines if they were broken. However, machines are
dangerous and would sometimes injure or cut off a hand or finger of a child. In present day there are
many laws benefiting how many hours a child can work based on their age. The federal child labor
provisions, authorized by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) of 1938, also known as the child labor
laws, were enacted to ensure that when young people work, the work is safe and does not jeopardize
their health, well being or educational opportunities. These provisions also provide limited exemptions
(U.S. Dept. of child labor). Child labor laws are now in place to protect children while they work.
Children can now work safely and receive an education at the same

much in his life. In other words, the school did not understand the deaf culture fully that the Deaf
people not only sign but also can do other than ASL. As a result of having a lack of interest in Deaf
culture, despite that Matt is an intelligent student, he did not even reach the minimum GPA in order to

Beach Marine Sediments
Marine Sediments are the particles of organic or inorganic matter that accumulates in a loose,
unconsolidated form. After the continuous raining of sediments, the deep floors have varied from
centimeters of thickness per year. When we think of sediment, we think have erosion of minerals that
were once on land, remains of living organisms, and chemical reactions that associate with the ocean
(terrigenous, biogenic, hydrogenous, and cosmogenic ). This process has helped determine the age of
the seafloor and what it may be in the future. Sediments are like the memory of the ocean, due to the

For example, one could find this sand on our near by beaches such as Newport. There are other sand
types such as coral sand, where could primarily be found in the shore of Oahu, Hawaii. White sandy
beaches could also consist of limestone and other types of coral as well. Now in reference to how each
of these kinds of beaches does not have the same sand type, is due to the fact that areas are
geologically different. Newport beach is located on the edge of the pacific plate, right along the North
American, where we find all types of terrain and activity. We can assume that we have an average
amount of rainfall, wild fires here and there, and all types of natural sediment that find its way to the
ocean. When we compare this to the island of Hawaii, we find that its approximately located in the
middle of the pacific, has more of tropical type weather and has lots of volcanoes. Now each area of
the world varies and ultimately this decides what kind of water temp there will be, what kind of terrain
and what types of sea life it will harbor. This is how many beaches around are different Its not because
of the formation of which the ocean was made or how

A Good Man Is Hard To Find Misfit Character Analysis
Naturally as humans we like to identify ourselves with a set of values. This code helps to form a sense
of being, an identity that sets us apart from others. However, inconsistency is just as much a part of
humanity as is our sense of morals. Common decency is plagued by our desires. In Flannery O Connor
s A Good Man Is Hard to Find , we follow a grandmother and her family, and we learn about her own
selfish values. Throughout the story she acts in a manner that falls in contradiction to what she
believes to be a lady and good. Right from the start we see that she will lie and sneak to get what she
wants. In contrast, the Misfit, a runaway criminal, has no pretention of being good. He knows the
implications of his actions and he follows through anyway. In this sense the characterization of the
grandmother s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though the Misfit is a runaway criminal, the villain , his calm consistency is resolute. When the
grandmother pleads that he must be a good man...not a bit common, he simply denies that fact (353).
He holds no illusion that his actions are honorable. This self aware cognition is pleasant to the
audience, especially in contrast to Red Sammy who eagerly accepts the compliment; being a good
man would explain his gullibility and ease his ego. My daddy said I was a different breed of dog from
my brothers and sisters. You know, Daddy said, It s some that can live their whole life without asking
about it and it s others has to know why it is, and this boy is one of the latters (353). From this quote
we can see that the Misfit is a man who constantly takes his actions into consideration. He questions
his role in the world and why he acts the way he does, rather than merely accepting a label as a good
or bad person. It is this contemplation that gives his story weight. Thusly his role is solidified in the
audience s mind as an antihero, as a man with consistent

Disadvantages Of Being A Gladiator
What was life as a gladiator? How does it affect humans today? What were the advantages and
disadvantages of being a gladiator? There are so many are so many questions about gladiators that go
unanswered, but now, thanks to archaeologists, we are able to answer those questions. Evidence shows
that being a gladiators had both advantages and disadvantages. A gladiator is an armed fighter who
entertained audiences in the Roman Empire by fighting against other gladiators, wild animals, and
criminals. In late 1st century, Nicolaus of Damascus believed they were Etruscans. A generation later,
the 1st gladiatorial ceremonies were held in 310 BC. It was held by the Campanians in celebration of
their over the Samnites. The Romans were greatly influenced by their predecessors the Etruscans. For
example, the Etruscans always sacrificed an animal before their ceremonies, so the Romans started
doing the same. Gladiators were usually slaves or criminals, but could also be free men. Professionals
gladiators were usually free men, but they were all treated as slaves. Free men still wore shackles and
had to do whatever they were told. Although they were treated as slaves, free men would often be the
most popular amongst the crowd. Criminals and slaves would be set free if they survived 3 5 years as
a gladiator. More than 100 gladiator schools were built throughout the Roman Empire. Gladiators
were sent to school depending on if they were a criminal or not.

  • 2. The Effects Of Malaria On African Continent And Is... Malaria is a life threatening disease that is caused by plasmodium parasites transmitted from female mosquitos when they bite a human. The plasmodium parasite can also be transmitted by blood products like unclean needles or unscreened blood. There are five parasite species (Plasmodium, falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, and P. malariae) that cause malaria in humans, and two of these species, P. falciparum and P. vivax, are the greatest threat (see Figure 1). The severity of malaria is based on the species of plasmodium. The symptoms people experience include chills, fever, and sweating usually occurring within a few weeks after being bitten. In the United States, it is a very rare disease with fewer than 20,000 cases per year, and is treatable by a medical professional. However, Sub Saharan Africa is home to 88% of malaria cases and 90% of malaria deaths. P. falciparum is the most prevalent parasite on the African continent and is responsible for most malaria related deaths globally. P. vivax is more widely distributed than P. falciparum and predominates in most countries outside of Africa. In the 1970s and 1980s, resistance of P. falciparum started in medicines, such as chloroquine and sulfadoxine pyrimethamine (SP). Drug resistance has been implicated in the spread of malaria to new areas and re emergence of malaria in areas where the disease had been eradicated. Population movement has introduced resistant parasites to areas previously free of drug resistance. Resistance is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ali Amin Sentenced To 11 Years In Prison Case Study Should A 17 Year Old Teen Ali Amin Be Sentenced To 11 Years in Prison? 17 year old in Virginia by the name of Ali Amin was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison because of his support of the terrorist group ISIS. He ran a pro ISIS twitter account and helped an 18 year old friend escape to Syria to help ISIS battle militants and rebels. Amin, who peaded guilty in June to conspiring to provide material support to terrorists, tweeted approximately 7,000 times from the apparently pro ISIS account @AmreekiWitness which had more than 4,000 followers, and has since been suspended. He also introduced his friend Reza Niknesad to ISIS members online and helped the 18 year old travel and join the militia in Syria. (The Washington Post) Prosecutors =, who described Amin as a prolific, sophisticated Islamic state supporter sought the maximum sentence of 15 years; Amins defense attorneys asked for a six year and three month sentence. (The Washington Post) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ali is clearly pro ISIS and his actions were clearly wrong, but should the court be sentencing Ali for 11 years? The first amendment clearly states Congress should make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridge the freedom of speech, or the press; or of the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. The major crime was when Ali helped his friend to go to Syria. Having a twitter account that supports ISIS is not a wrongdoing. It is loathsome, but other groups such as the KKK or the American Nazi Party are loathsome as well, but not targeted by the authorities. The key to this part of the case is the fact that the teen provided materialistic support by letting individuals make anonymous donations via ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Impact of Fire on the Geology of Soils Essay Fires are an important and healthy process in many ecosystems. The lack of fires can cause new plant communities to invade an area . The regular occurrence of fires can keep one plant community dominate, like oak savannas. Fires can leave burnt sticks the size of trees and clumps of charcoal where bunch grass use to grow, but not for long. An area that was burned will re grow, grasslands will be green the next growing season and forests will typically show new growth soon after. Somewhere in the process of a fire the soil it travels over is effected. Alterations happen immediately after a fire passes over a soil and can continue years after a fire has gone. Soils are impacted in two main ways; by the entering of nutrients form the brunt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The differences between the two may effect how the alterations of soil are disturbed, but both will undergo the same general processes. The heat of a fire has many effects on the properties of a soil. The effects are not the same for every soil type because it depends on what is present in the soil before the fire. In my paper, I will be exploring different types of alterations a soil may undergo as a result of a fire. The three main areas I am going to look at are; change in color and structure, hydrophobic properties after a fire, and the alteration in nutrient cycles, in particular nitrogen. In conjunction with what changes occur to the properties of a soil, I will also be looking at management practices that can lessen the undesirable changes in soil. Effects on soil color and structure In heating most substances, change in color and texture or structure occurs, this generally holds true in the case of soils. A. L. Ulery and R. C. Graham (1993) did a study on how fire alters both color and texture of soils. The color of the burned soils tended to redden in hue and have higher chromas and values after burning, than did the unburned soil of the same type (Ulery and Graham, 1993). One reason that the color changed is most likely due to the translocation and transformation of nutrients and minerals in the soil. As the soil burns the heat alters individual minerals in the soil. The redder color in the soil was caused by an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. My Goals For This Class Based On The Sensory And Diangelo... My goals for this class based on the Sensory and DiAngelo reading were to focus less on grades and more on understanding of the concepts, the second was to strive for intellectual humility by accepting what I do not know and being open to the concepts I do not know, my last goal was to learn from my reactions towards subject material the may have bothered me by journaling or researching more about the topic. (Sensory DiAngelo, 2012) These goals I set for the class were met at times, but at other times I feel that I did not meet these goals as well as I intended to. The first goal to focus less on grades was mostly met. I found myself not caring about the grades, but then when I had trouble with a concept or I found myself taking longer to understand what was being asked of me in the homework assignment I began to feel like my mark would suffer or that I would get a really bad mark, and although I never got a very terrible mark, I did find myself focusing on it too much at times. I found it was easier to focus less on the grade at the beginning and at the end of the semester, so I just need to work on managing my stress in the middle of the semester to keep myself from nitpicking my grades. I did find that when I did have the time to write out notes for the readings or even just having notes in the margins it helped me understand and my grades then reflected that, so for the future I will have to remember to keep that in mind. For the second goal, which was to strive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Movies seem to be the next logical step for most artists, and whether it s the cliché fun of 90 s hits like Spice World or the recent Backstreet Boys movie, loyal fans flock to them. So who s next on the list? Well, you re never going to believe this...but it s a church band. Really, I m not kidding. Maybe you ve heard of them? Early on, I made the assumption that this film was entirely church based. It s not. In fact, it was directed by Michael John Warren, the gentleman who directed Jay Z s Fade to Black and Nicki Minaj s My Time Again. Warren admits to not being a Christian, which gives us reason to expect Let Hope Rise will be shown through a contemporary and secular lense. That being said, the faith based element to this flick will be integral, hopefully in a genuine and really authentic way. Number Two: The story so far. The story behind Hillsong s rise to success is something that has caused wide speculation over the years. Having released music since 2000, the UNITED band has gone through many members, written some iconic songs, and has molded church culture and the face of Christian music. • 7. Essay on The Responsibility of Macbeth for his own Actions In the Elizabethan Era, society was highly suspicious of the power of supernatural forces and it was commonly accepted that one s life was governed by fate and was predetermined. Shakespeare s Macbeth challenges the Elizabethan ideology of fate by privileging that although Macbeth was a victim of his vaulting ambition (1:VII 27), he was ultimately responsible for his villainous actions. Shakespeare has foregounded certain events to privilege that a person has free will and a concience and the cosequences of going against one s conscience, thus challenging the assumption of the Elizabethan Era. The audience is invited to sympathise with the protagonist, Macbeth, and see him as a tragic hero. Before his descent into evil, Macbeth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Macbeth then began a series of murders to retain his fruitless crown (3:I 67), to be thus is nothing, but to be safely thus (3:I 54). It was Macbeth s latent ambition for power that caused his descent into evil. Shakespeare foregrounds that Macbeth was aware of and resposible for his actions, through conscience and free will, to illustrate that he was not a victim of supernatural forces. By doing this he is challeging the assumptions of the Elizabethan Era that supernatural forces and supernatural soliciting predetermine one s destiny. The hallucinations and ghostly apparitions are foreground not to illustrate supernatural interference, but to foreground Macbeth s guilty conscience. Macbeth struggles with his conscience, this humanises him and invites the audience to relate to him. Even before Macbeth had committed murder, his conscience was causing him to have qualms. One example of this is in Act One Scene 7, before the regicide of Duncan. We will proceed no further in this business. (Duncan) hath honoured me of late, and I have bought golden opinions from all sorts of people, which would be worn in their newest gloss, not cast aside so soon. Macbeth was disinclined to murder gracious Duncan as he believed him to be a good king (4:III 163), however he still made the decision to commit regicide. This foregrounds the internal struggle Macbeth endured with his conscience that makes him a tragic hero. Supernatural elements exist to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even I have undergone working the tedious, hard working jobs in which I felt the work and responsibility did not reflect my pay: $7.25. Me, as a teenager, thought it was hard to manage on the $7.25 minimum wage, but imagine someone who is working full time and supporting a family on minimum wage it seems impossible. In The New York Times article, The Case for a Higher Minimum Wage, The Editorial Board argues that the federal minimum wage of $7.25 should be raised because it could help those who are in need, increase the productivity of minimum wage employees, and help the American economy; however, conservatives hinder the process. The Editorial Board makes a strong case to raise the minimum wage to help many Americans by giving many statistics and facts, and counterarguments, which makes the argument tenable and plausible. Within the article, many statistics and facts are given to show that the minimum wage needs to be increased to help many Americans economically. One fact is that approximately 27.8 million people would have a higher wage if the Democratic proposition of raising the minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 ( The Case for a Higher Minimum Wage ). • 13. Characteristics Of An Anglo-Saxon Hero In Beowulf Debi Mazar once said, A hero is somebody who is selfless, who is generous in spirit, who tries to give back as much as possible and help people. A hero to me is someone who saves people and someone who really deeply cares. In Beowulf, the Unknown Author of this Anglo Saxon poem, explains the battle between good and evil. An Anglo Saxon Hero is someone who is loyal, who has honor and respect, they don t do things for rewards because they ll have that sense of justice which is just as good. They are never concerned with themselves but the wellbeing of everyone around them and that s what makes them so great, their selfless acts change lives for the better. Beowulf exemplifies the characteristics of an Anglo Saxon Hero because he shows bravery and courage in a way nobody else does, he is honored by all and is beyond selfless. First of all, Beowulf shows courage and bravery on his way to find Grendel and battle him. He runs after him to find out where Grendel is going and why he won t let him battle, this shows bravery because most people don t run towards danger and Beowulf did exactly that. Beowulf runs towards danger throughout the entire poem, for example in the text it says, Have watched me rise from the darkness of war. Dripping with my enemy s blood. I drove five great giants into chains, chased all that raced from the earth, I swam in the blackness of night, hunting monsters out of the ocean and killing them one by one. (247 254). This is a great quote because it shows how it takes a great amount of bravery to battle someone that has greater than or equal strength compared to himself,(Beowulf) with it being night time it was hard to see let alone battle monsters. Another example of Beowulf showing courage is when he says, He needs no weapons and fears none. Nor will I. My lord Higlac might think less of me if I let my sword go where my feet were afraid to... (263 264) because this shows that he doesn t like an unfair fight and believes whatever his opponent has to fight with he should have the same because that s what a fair fight consist of. Additionally, a person that has honor is someone who has an obligation to fulfil and they always keep an agreement. At the beginning of the poem Beowulf was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Psychological Factors Associated With Ptsd Derealization is the experience that the world is not real; the patient may feel like they are in a dream world (American Psychological Association, 2013). Psychological Factors Development of PTSD is not only related to experiencing a traumatic event. There are several psychological factors associated with development of PTSD. Children that have been exposed to constant trauma and stress are more likely to develop PTSD then children from more stable home environments. Some studies have even shown that when fetuses are exposed to maternal stress they will have trouble coping with stress later in life. Children who come from a poor home environment are particularly susceptible to PTSD because they never learned successful coping skills. When these children experience a traumatic event they do not have the tools or support to successfully manage the stress (Halter, 2014, p. 305 307). Rademaker, Van Zuiden, Vermetten, Geuze (2011) found that certain personality types are more likely to develop PTSD. Those that exhibit a high amount of neuroticism (anxiety, jealousy, envy, adverse emotional states) and those that are also introverts are more likely to develop PTSD then others (p. 299). Biological Factors Additionally, PTSD is related to a complex serious of biological factors. According to Halter (2014) the development of PTSD is related to how the intense trauma causes a dysregulation that disrupts the integration of neural networks (p.306). • 22. The Power Structured Relationships Within A Patriarchal... In her text, Millet discusses the power structured relationships within a patriarchal society. She defines the concept of power as a series of oppressive circumstances between power structured relationships. In this relationship there is a dominant group and subordinate group. Millet states that the male shall dominate female, elder male shall dominate younger (Millet 25). Women are oppressed in a patriarchal society, giving men the power to dominate. The theory of patriarchy is derived from the creation of social norms based on biological differences between males and females (Millet, 27). Judith Butler would refer to these norms as the ways in which society believes each gender should perform. Women are socialized to be loving, affectionate and feminine, while men are more prone to dominant behavior. This has created cultural expectations that encourage the notion that women are inferior to men (Millet 31). During child development, family and society have traditionally encouraged patriarchal structures by reinforcing certain behavior such as aggression in male or passivity in female. As a result, children develop a core gender identity based on their upbringing. Children then grow within a culture of sexual hierarchy while maintaining the roles they have been classified to. As mentioned, Judith Butler would argue that this phenomenon is called gender performativity. Butler s theory of gender performativity describes the instability of gender and how it is created ... In his opinion piece for CNN appropriately title College is a waste of time , Stephens shows the downsides of going to college such as the cost of it, the consequences of failing, and how it does not prepare you for the real world. The Wabash National study held a survey asking college students and graduates what they came away with out of college. With all the data they captured, the study concluded that the majority of the groups tested believe the only things they learned from school were life lessons. The fact of the matter is, although you learn life lessons throughout your experience in college, ultimately it is a waste of time because it does not help you much academically. Sixty two percent of students tested from the survey believed they have moderate to high growth in moral reasoning. This is a no brainer, seeing that it is a common knowledge that you would pick up by just going through your life and having form experience. Only twenty one percent of the students said they have made a contribution to science in college. For something that people go to college for, to learn and contribute to their specific fields of interest, this number is baffling. It was not one single factor that caused the colonies to rebel, but a number of missteps by the smug and out of touch English government that caused the colonies to declare their independence in July 1776. The first missteps that started the revolutionary wheels turning happened when parliament enacted the Sugar Act in 1764 followed by the Stamp Act in 1765. In the wake of the French and Indian War, Britain had amassed a massive wartime debt.
