Professor Michael A. Peters
13 August 2015 Exploring citizenship, global citizenship, and global citizenship education
Abstract
With the progression of globalization, the recognition of how to be a good citizen and how to act as a
good citizen in the global age has drawn more and more attention. In addition, the direction of
education shifts from the knowledge and skills dissemination to building global values to be well
connected in the world. This paper aims to indicate multiple understandings of citizenship and
specifically interprets three dimensions of citizenship: citizenship as a status, as a practice and as a
feeling. Besides, understandings about global citizenship will be explored as well. Last but not the
least, how global citizenship education is applied to the concepts of citizenship and global citizenship
in order to be a good citizen and act as a good citizen.
Citizenship
With regard to the concepts of citizenship, there have been a significant variety of understandings.
Specifically, in Marshall s perspective (1950, p30), citizenship consists of civil, political, and social
citizenship. In addition, Marshall argues that the development of civil citizenship expanded, involving
political citizenship and social citizenship. Based on the three dimension model of citizenship,

Product Assessment
Discuss this product or service in terms of its current target market demographics using U.S. Census

The product/service I chose is in store movie rental and purchase. I.e. Blockbuster Videos. While
DVD sales declined for a third straight year in 2009, consumer appetite for viewing movies at home
remains very healthy as new physical and digital services for buying and renting movies gain in
popularity. The proliferation of movie rental kiosk machines over the last year was probably the most
visible sign of consumer interest in viewing movies at home.
To understand the impact of rental kiosks and other movie services on household disc purchasing

Red box has become the biggest competitor for blockbuster. I love the convenience of driving less
than mile to my gas station to rent a movie for $1 dollar. Blockbuster is attempting to compete with
the blockbuster express; however they don t have nearly as many units as red box. Also blockbuster
express charges more for their new release then red box. I like the convenience of being able to return
red box movies to any one of their locations no matter the city or state.
Movies on demand is a great concept. You can order movies to your home TV as soon as there
available on DVD. You can rent a movie for just about the same price as you would from blockbuster.
Turning your TV on and watching a new release from the comfort of your home is priceless. Also
being billed for the movie with your regular cable bill is a convenience as well. People enjoy have
something that is convenient for them. Those that don t have cable can go the red box for less than a
rental at block buster.
Finally, I don t begin to doubt that digital movie piracy played a role. Even though authorities have
begun cracking down on some of this in recent years, there s little doubt that Blockbuster and others
lost millions of dollars in potential rentals when movies were illegally downloaded. All of these causes
of Blockbusters troubles have something in common: technology. Without the Internet, Netflix

Classroom Space Impact On Students And The Overall...
There have been a number of studies done to show how the amount of space that is available in a
classroom can have an effect on the behavior of the students and the overall environment of the
classroom. In 2003, Duncanson found that classroom space impacts how teachers and students
behave. He found that classrooms with small amounts of space were prone to have inefficient
pathways and look cluttered. In part, it was found that this situation was caused by the large amount of
room teachers reserved for their own use and the large amount of space covered by other pieces of
furniture. The arrangement of the furniture hampered the natural flow patterns and created small open
spaces for students to work. Thus teachers more or less identified and assigned the spaces that were to
be used by students while working on an activity (Duncanson, 2003). The ideal classroom is one
where there are minimal distractions to learning, focused attention on classroom discussions and
positive learning about critical subject material. With this in mind, it is important to understand what
causes misbehavior and what can be done to limit it. Misbehavior must be taken in context however,
since one must look at the situation and instructor to determine if a particular action falls in the
misbehavior category. For example, walking around during a math lesson would be unacceptable, but
walking around in a pottery class would be expected (Burden, 1995). In one study by Tiirkniiklii
Galton (2001),

Disney Court Case
Within the first few minutes of Karen Morris entering the lecture hall I knew her presentation would
be interesting, and one that would be hard not to pay attention to. I thought she picked a great topic to
present on, I found the stories of the different cases incredibly interesting, and even humorous at some
points. I felt that she kept everyone s attention throughout the presentation by the way she presented
the information, she was not only loud but you could tell she wanted to be there and wanted to share
these cases with us.
She began by introducing herself and telling us about traffic lawns and not to text and drive, as well as
explained the consequences of doing it, which I thought was a good way to start out and to catch
everyone s attention. She then moved on giving us brief synopsis of many different court cases,
explaining laws that sparked some discussion. The first court case that brought on a discussion was
one related to copyrights. Two people owned a restaurant that eventually closed, the owners parted
ways and opened up two different restaurants on their own. One of the previous restaurant owners

Disney has now put up signs saying there are alligators along with a fence around the area. The case is

Killings By Andre Dubus Analysis
The way the plot of Killings by Andre Dubus is arranged changes how the reader sees the characters
in the story. This plot starts out in the present, then goes into the past, then back to the present. There
are two main characters, and three secondary characters in this story. The way the reader views all of
these characters is affected by the plot arrangement. The two primary characters who are most
important to the plot, and also most affected by the plot arrangement, are Matt Fowler and Richard
Strout. Because the first thing the reader reads in the exposition of the story is On the August morning
when Matt Fowler buried his youngest son, Frank, who had lived for twenty one years, eight months,
and four days... pg 93, and not Richard Strout s backstory and reasoning for his actions, they are
immediately persuaded by the author to feel sympathy towards Matt. The author needs the reader to
feel this sympathy so that when Matt kills Strout at the climax of the plot, Matt is not viewed as the
antagonist of the story, but rather as the protagonist. The author needs the reader to view Strout as the
antagonist so that the reader does not dislike Matt, and so that the story is one of justified revenge and
not just another murder. If the reader had been presented with the plot in chronological order, with
Strout s backstory and reasoning for killing Frank first, then the reader might almost feel bad for
Strout. If seen like this, one might conclude that, while he did not take

Hypocrisy In Tom Sawyer Finn
Even if twain is cutting in his dismissive attitude toward abstract social causes that involve hypocrisy,
he sees it as an inevitable and condonable aspect of life in a community. Adults fail to follow through
on their word regarding the several adventures Tom undertakes that involve his leaving the village. In
running away to Jackson s Island, getting lost in the cave, and tracking down Injun Joe s treasure, Tom
and his friends break serious rules, yet in each case the villagers welcome the children home again
without punishing them. The adults can hardly be condemned for their hypocrisy in desiring the
children s safety, which underscores Twain s belief in the ultimate goodness of community. The

Rocky Mount North Carolina Case Study
Rocky Mount, North Carolina acts as an inhabitant of two of North Carolina s 100 counties, Nash and
Edgecombe. The various drugs available to the citizens of this city range from illegal prescription pills
to harder, synthetic drugs such as Heroin. Though each drug relates to one another regardless of legal
status, there are also levels of legality, relating to penalties as well. Some of the concerns in which
Heroin is focused include areas such as the history of Heroin within the location, drug raids, arrests,
age range of involvement, and treatment availability. Each category being explored plays a larger role
than just the individual components, where the multiple instances create a growing epidemic among
the city s population. Rocky Mount ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking at a more practical example before the technical specifications, in 2014, a group of people
from Rocky Mount were conspiring with larger groups to have heroin transported from New Jersey to
Rocky Mount. The United States Attorney stated that local and federal law enforcement was
committed to putting a stop to heroin related charges in the area. When apprehending the participants,
it was considered conspiring to distribute and to possess with the intend to distribute heroin, a
Schedule I substance. This is a violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 846.
Title 21 USC 841(a)(1) states, (a) Unlawful acts Except as authorized by this subchapter, it shall be
unlawful for any person knowingly or intentionally (1) to manufacture, distribute, or dispense, or
possess with intent to manufacture, distribute, or dispense, a controlled substance ( 21 E.S. Code § 841
prohibited acts A, 1970). The subsequent United States Code, 846, concerns the attempt and
conspiracy to sell ( 21 U.S.C. 846 attempt and conspiracy, n.d.). Looking at the more technical side of
legality more in depth than related convictions, there is a set standard of penalties regarding Schedule
I drugs. All charges related to heroin, possession or distribution, are felonies. The possession classifies
as a Class I felony and has a potential penalty of six to twelve months in prison, along with fines and
possible loss of license. Heroin distribution of four to fourteen grams is a Class F felony, resulting in
stronger penalties. This penalty equals between seventy and eighty four months, five to seven years, in
prison, as well as a $50,000 fine. Penalties regarding fourteen to twenty eight grams has a potential
penalty of ninety to one hundred and seventeen months, seven and a half years to nine and a half
years, as well as

resistance to normal saline technique when cervical dilation was 1 cm. Intrathecal analgesia was
initiated with bupivacaine 2.5 mg and fentanyl 15 µg and PCEA was maintained as described for Case
1. The patient developed moderate interscapular pain and lower neck pain 6 hours later. At the time of
her complaint of interscapular pain, she had received 120 mL epidural infusion solution without any
physician administered doses. She described the pain as a constant, dull, non radiating crick in the
neck between her shoulder blades, extending into her lower neck. The patient did not recognize any
aggravating or alleviating factors. She noted that she had developed the exact same pain during
epidural analgesia during her previous delivery. The basal infusion rate was decreased to 6 mL/h and
the concentration of bupivacaine in her local anesthetic/opioid infusion was increased from 0.0625%

Alka Seltzer Plus Liquid Gels are claimed, in the commercial, to be powerful relief without artificial

encompass a range of many different ailments including, but not limited to: cough, sore throat, fever,
aches and pains, headaches, and nasal congestion. Fever is typically associated more with flu like
symptoms, rather than just the common cold, but a fever can occur in the common cold (Bayer

the common cold and flu. According to the Bayer Healthcare Consumer Fact Sheet for Alka Seltzer

Oil Export for a Unified Caspian Oil Conglomerate
Introduction
Oil resources are the focal point of almost all international disputes in the present century as every
country needs oil to power its electrical grids, run its automobiles, and operate its machinery. The vast
majority of accessible oil lies in the extremely unstable Middle East, whose countries form most of
OPEC and have a viable monopoly on oil production and pricing. The troubles caused by this situation
thus come to no surprise as high demand and monopolistic supply give omnipotent control to the
supplier.

Analysis Of Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong In Things They...
Things They Carried Essay Anything can change a person if they are not ready for that change. The
short story Sweetheart of The Song Tra Bong, in Things They Carried, by Tim O Brien represents this
by showing change in Mary Anne, who is a character the reader probably would not expect to see in a
book about the Vietnam War. There are many parts show the change in her from the average high
school girl she used to be into a predatory killer, but there is only one reason for her change, and that
is the war itself. The changes Mary Anne goes through in this story stand out very clear. In the
beginning, the quote that introduces Mary Anne is, ...she was seventeen years old, fresh out of
Cleveland Heights Senior High. She had long white legs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can t feel like that anywhere else (O Brien 111). Mary Anne is inevitably drawn to the other side
the other side in this case being the Vietnam War itself. She is not completely part of it yet but she sure
is fascinated by it, and will be part of it soon. She displays the danger of throwing away all separation
between herself and the war. She is at the point where she wants to become one with the war. However
towards the end of the story, Mary Ann becomes a completely different person. This can be shown
perfectly in the quote, She had crossed to the other side. She was part of the land. She was wearing her
culottes, her pink sweater, and a necklace of human tongues. She was dangerous. She was ready for
the kill (O Brien 116).
Going back to the Vietnam War and its effect on Mary Anne. At this point, it can be seen that Mary
Anne has completely crossed over. She has a necklace of human tongues, which is crazy weird.
However, Mary Anne is still wearing her culottes and her pink sweater, the very pieces of clothing that
made her appear so American at the beginning of the story. The reason for Mary Anne s change is not
because of the Vietnamese or even Vietnam, even though it appeared to be at the beginning. It s the
war itself. The war is half Vietnamese and half American. A example that shows Mary Anne going
through her change is in the quote, Mary Anne made you think about those girls back home, how
clean and innocent they all are, how they ll never

In my culture, children are expected to follow the rules established by our parents. There is a
punishment for behaving badly or for a doing something wrong. We can t earn what we want until we
have a family talk about what we did wrong. For example, important family decisions must be
collectively accepted and followed. Getting training from our parents helps our children to keep
potential problems under control. Within my culture, eating and sleeping habits have changed.
Watching tv, playing video games, using social media all these factors lead to less sleep. These days
we can t even have a family dinner together than we used to have without electronics and because

This reflects the GOB s increasing commitment to reorient policies and action in line with the new

mandate for environmental management and which come under the ministry of environment and

It brings along with it a host of environmental problem too. Bangladesh responds to the global call for
the protection and conservation of natural environment and ecology. It is increasingly being
recognized in Bangladesh, as in other parts of the world, that for development to be meaningful and
sustainable over a longer period, environmental concerns must be integrated into all development

Veterans Day Research Paper
Whether it is in an office, on a battlefield, or at a switchboard, it takes a hero to be a veteran. Bravery
and patriotism are characteristics of veterans. Veterans Day was created to honor all people who have
served, fought, and died for our country and our freedom. People who served in the military and gave
their services, risked their lives, and lost their lives for us are all veterans: They deserve our thanks.
When people think of veterans, a word that might come to their mind would be hero. Soldiers leave
their homes, families, and friends to fight for our country and the freedom we believe in so strongly. If
a brother, cousin, uncle, or friend gets killed during a battle, veterans keep going. They need to wait
until a later time to grieve, cry, and mourn their lost companions. Soldiers endure loss, blistering cold,
scorching heat, trench foot, and more. This is what makes up a true hero. ... Show more content on

When young men and women enlist in the armed forces, they know the dangers they face. They still
enlist and are willing to risk their lives for the freedom of their country because they believe. They
feel proud. Soldiers leave home, go overseas, fight for our country, and either die bravely or come

Power Behind Knowledge
Knowledge is an important part of everyone s lives; the human nature to gain more over the years has
been an evolutionary process that has shifted over time. Knowledge tends to lead a person in search of
more information. Curiosity and thirst for knowledge is present within everyone and varies based on
the urges of the individual; the user has the ultimate power for the use of the information. The
information gained by an individual must be used with careful considerations of the consequences it
holds. The word itself has an impact to our nation that can alter the initial meaning altogether. Over
the course of history, knowledge has an impact on the political and social spheres, which in turn also
impacts the economic aspect of our world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In addition, the historical concept of knowledge can be traced back to ancient times. The concept of
knowledge is a powerful idea that helps the world to exist in serenity. Without this concept, an
individual cannot develop his or skills while reflecting on the previous actions. Knowledge helps an
individual obtain astounding goals, while it can also be his or her demise. The power behind
knowledge is evident through the course of the history of the word. The information obtained by
knowledge can be used according to the intentions of the individual. The books of the Bible state that

understanding the wisdom presented by God. The Bible states, one must not eat from the tree of

Ever since LEGO started experiencing double digit annual sales growth, (by launching new toy

Hardship Of True Love In The Princess Bride By William...
No one said love was easy or that others will be happy that you are with each other. In The Princess

it. He thought that his life would be like his favorite book, but it wasn t he didn t have the love he
wanted. Goldman tells the story of Buttercup and Westley on the good parts version just like his father
read it to him. In a way that he is able to unraveled how life isn t fair, some people may not have a

using internal conflict, symbolism, and a frame story structure.
From time to time authors relate to the books they write. Author William Goldman wrote the

Media Coverage Of The Media
Lindsay Lohan. Britney Spears. Winona Ryder. Farrah Fawcett. The preceding list of people all have a
few things in common. Most noticeable is the fact that they are all contemporary celebrities and
women. However, these celebrities share another common trait that will be of much more relevance in
the discussion that will follow: they have all been given the label of kleptomaniac at one point or
another in the public eye due to being caught shoplifting at least once. To be fair, diagnoses made by
tabloids and the media are of much less substance than medical diagnosis. It is plausible that one or
more of the celebrities mentioned above who were caught shoplifting were not stealing out of a
recurrent and compulsive urge. Regardless, whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a case of a man who would not eat unless his food was stolen, so a servant would take pains
to hide the man s food in such a manner that the man could steal it and eat rather than die from
starvation. One woman was so afflicted with the compulsion to steal that she would not hesitate in
stealing offerings and tithes from church baskets at the altar. An otherwise upstanding woman was
such a helpless thief that she would steal bread from her friends dinner table if there was nothing else
more valuable to be had. There is even record of a clergyman whose kleptomania was so notorious
that the Church eventually had to cut ties with him. A British lady, presumably of high society, was
prosecuted for stealing handkerchiefs from a clothing store; the Times which reported on the case
insinuated that recurrent and compulsive theft of cheap items from shops is quite common among the
ladies of high society in London. This behavior was so well known that family members arranged a
well coordinated effort with drivers and shopkeepers to keep tabs on their thieving ladies and to make
sure that the shopkeepers got reimbursed. Sometimes the thief herself would be the one writing the
check that the shopkeepers would inevitably send to their home. One of the causes of kleptomania
appears to be general insanity. The behavior is so compulsive, that people who are otherwise

The Massacre At Wounded Knee Analysis
The Massacre at Wounded Knee First, and foremost, the battle between the white man and the Indian
Nation is a poignant historical portrayal of what took place at the Wounded Knee Massacre. It was all
set in motion in the Moon When the Deer Shed Their Horns , a Sioux moon of December. The Sioux
were so distraught about the assassination of Sitting Bull; they could not muster an uprising. The
Ghost Dance was their only hope to eradicate the white man. There was no hope on earth, and God
seemed to have forgotten us. Some said they saw the Son of God; others did not see Him. If he had
come, He would do some great things as He had done before. We doubted it because we had seen
neither Him nor His works. The people did not know; they did not care. They snatched at hope. They
screamed like crazy men to Him for mercy. They caught at the promise they heard He had made. The
white men were frightened and called for soldiers. We had begged for life, and the white man thought
we wanted theirs. We heard the soldiers were coming. We did not fear. We hope that we could tell
them our troubles and get help. A white man said the soldiers wanted to kill us. We did not believe it,

The Potential Of Fiji s Export Industry
INTRODUCTION
Fiji is categorized as one of the five Pacific Island countries (PICs) with the others being Papua New
Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu. After attaining her independence, Fiji concentrated
on her agricultural sector, specifically, sugar cane production and exportation. At the same time, the
successive governments adopted an import substitution policy but later on, after the IMF intervention,
she pursued an export led economic growth policy (Gani Prasad, 2007). She started diversifying her
export basket to not only include agricultural products such as sugar cane but other products such as
gold. Gradually, the service industry overtook the traditional export industry, to become the highest
export earner for Fiji (Narayan, 2000). This industry was consisted mainly of tourist arrivals.
In this report, Fiji s export industry is covered comprehensively and within the limited resources
available at the time of writing. The core goal of the report is determining the potential of Fiji s Export
industry. In particular, the agricultural and services industry is reviewed. Linear programming model
of total return from aggregate exports is used. This is done with the core aim of finding out what is
limiting the growth of Fiji s export industry and the best way to lessen the drastic changes in the
export returns from year to year.

I thought the story had good suspense, especially during the part of the story where Duke was in the
county final. David tells us that the first period seesawed back and forth for several minutes. Bankman
started off in the control position, Duke wrestled carefully and soon engineered a neat escape and
because of the way he said they seesawed back and forth you wanted to keep reading to find out who
wins the match. The story also show suspense when Bankman had Duke in a cradle hold and it says
that Harry was standing and punching the air with both fist when he suddenly realized that Bankman
had pulled a masterful reversal. Harry fist unclenched, but he never fully lowered his arms. he
watched Duke s desperate efforts to resist the pin, saw that there was still more than a minute left and
Harry knew Duke wouldn t make it and continues to say that he started moving forward. Harry s wife
grabbed for his arm but missed and harry was soon down on the floor of the gym and raced straight
for the two wrestlers. When you read this you really want to keep reading to see what happens to the
wrestlers and Harry.
I also thought this story had good imagery. When Duke tried out for the wrestling team he was still
described as small for his age but it says that in his sophomore year he started on the junior varsity,
and between his sophomore and junior season he suddenly blossomed into a powerhouse and says
each time Duke worked out, new muscles seemed to sprout on his

Essay On Greenhouse Gas Emissions
As emitter in chief Donald Trump pulls out of the Paris Climate Accord, the time has come for a top
down approach to reducing global greenhouse gas emissions. Jack Close explains.
Environmentalists are quick to sing out about New Zealand s excessive greenhouse gas emissions and
rightly so. In the large part, we are a gas guzzling, river polluting, plastic bag wasting country. But the
rules of international trade means cutting back on production in our worst emitting industry probably
won t work, or at least not yet.
New Zealand is the world s largest dairy exporter, making up about 35 percent of international trade
and sells nearly half of the world s traded lamb. Agriculture accounts for 5.1 percent of our GDP, and

And we keep getting better at it in the last two decades, we ve reduced the amount of emissions per
unit of lamb, milk solids and beef by up to 33 percent.
If anyone should be producing dairy products, lamb, and beef, it should be us, right?
The NZ Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Research Centre uses the term leakage to describe what would
happen if we cut back on agriculture. If we reduce the amount of milk solids we export, for example,
people across the world will still want milk.
Instead, another country will seize the opportunity to fill the hole in the market, and feed the alley cat
that is global greenhouse gas emissions.
Not only will New Zealand be missing out on the revenue from those exports, but the countries that
attempt to capitalise on New Zealand s newfound environmental stewardship may not have anywhere
near the emission productivity that we do. Parts of Africa and South East Asia produce seven times
more methane per kilogram of edible protein than us.
In theory, we d be leaving the world in a worse environmental state than it was beforehand, and we d
be out of pocket.
Unless the whole world goes vegan, the demand for animal protein will only increase as exponential
population growth continues, with the United Nations expecting an extra 2.4 billion mouths to feed by
2050.
No country wants to lose out if they over commit to reducing climate change. There s a very good
reason the Government conveniently left off

Speech Recognition Nowadays, computer systems play a major role in our lives. They are used
everywhere beginning with homes, offices, restaurants, gas stations, and so on. Nonetheless, for some,
computers still represent the machine they will never know how to use. Communicating with a
computer is done using a keyboard or a mouse, devices many people are not comfortable using.
Speech recognition solves this problem and destroys the boundaries between humans and computers.
Using a computer will be as easy as talking with your friend. Unfortunately, scientists have discovered

Increasing the number of words isn t enough because the speech recognition system is unable to
differentiate words like to and two or right and write (6 ,p.98). Use of Grammar Using grammar,
differentiating words like to and two or right and write is possible. Grammar is also used to speed up a
speech recognition system by narrowing the range of the search (6,p.98). Grammar also increases the
performance of a speech recognition system by eliminating inappropriate word sequencing. However,
grammar doesn t allow random dictation which is a problem for some applications (6, p.98).
Continuous vs. Discrete Speech When speaking to each other, we don t pause between words. In other
words, we use continuous speech. However, for speech recognition systems, there is difficulty in
dealing with continuous speech (6, p.98). The easy way out will be using discrete speech where we
pause between words (6, p.100). With discrete speech input, the silent gap between words is used to
determine the boundary of the word, whereas in continuous speech, the speech recognition system
must separate words using an algorithm which is not a hundred per cent accurate. Still, for a small
vocabulary and using grammar, continuous speech recognition systems are available. They are reliable
and do not require great computational power (6, p.100). However, for

Bubonic Plague Essay

Abstract
Bubonic plague has had a major impact on the history of the world. Caused by the bacterium, Yersinia
pestis, and transmitted by fleas often found on rats, bubonic plague has killed over 50 million people
over the centuries. Burrowing rodent populations across the world keep the disease present in the
world today. Outbreaks, though often small, still occur in many places. The use of antibiotics and
increased scientific knowledge first gained in the 1890s have reduced the destruction of plague
outbreaks. In Medieval times, with the unknowing help of humans, bubonic plague exploded into a

However, with certain environmental conditions plague reaches an epizootic scale (affecting many
animals in any region at the same time). It is after a significant amount of the rodent (usually rats)
population dies out, that hungry, infected fleas seek other sources of blood, increasing the risk to
humans and other animals. the incubation period of bubonic plague is 2 to 6 days after exposure.
Between disease outbreaks, the plague bacterium exists among certain burrowing rodent populations
without causing much illness. These animals act as long term reservoirs of infection.
What happens (biologically) to people who get the disease and why?
Once the bacterium, Yersinia pestis, enters the bloodstream, it travels to the liver, spleen, kidneys,
lungs, and brain. The incubation period is commonly 2 to 6 days after exposure. Early symptoms
include:
shivering
vomiting
headache
giddiness
intolerance to light
pain in the back and limbs
white coating on tongue
Eventually, pain occurs in the groin, armpit, and neck (all the areas that contain lymph nodes). Later,
there is painful swelling of the lymph nodes called quot;boboes quot;, hard lumps that begin to appear
on the inner thigh, neck, and armpit. Blood vessels then break, causing internal bleeding. Soon, dried
blood under the skin begins to turn black. Yersinia pestis, in autopsies, has been found in the
periodical sac, spleen, liver, lymph nodes, and bone marrow. If untreated, plague

The Benefits Of Irreversible Enzyme Inhibitors
Enzyme inhibitors are molecules that bind to enzymes to decrease their activity. Many drugs are
enzyme inhibitors because by blocking the enzymes activity it can kill pathogens (shpanskaya and
Melechko, 2008) Enzyme inhibitors assist in altering the catalytic action of an enzyme in order to
slow down or stop catalysis (Worthington biochemical corporation, 2015). Inhabitation can either be
reversible or irreversible. During irreversible inhabitation the inhibitor detaches slowly from its
targeted enzyme as it is tightly bound to the enzyme by covalent or noncovalent bonds. Important
drugs such as penicillin are irreversible inhibitors. The penicillin covalently modifies the enzyme
transpeptidase which prevents synthesis of bacterial cell walls consequently killing off the bacteria
(Biochemistry, 2002)
As opposed to irreversible inhibition, reversible inhibition is a rapid detachment of the enzyme
inhibitor because the inhibitors bind to the enzymes with non covalent bonds. Unlike irreversible
inhibitors, reversible inhibitors do not have chemical reaction and can be broken down easily by
methods such as dilution (shpanskaya ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Volcanic Eruptions: 79 AD Versus the Present

Abstract: Volcanic eruptions can be disastrous and deadly. It is, therefore, important to look back at
prior eruptions and compare them to present eruptions in order to draw conclusions on what could be
done to mitigate loss of life and destruction. The eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD on Pompeii
and surrounding areas proved to be catastrophic because of the location of the volcano and especially
since citizens were not aware that an active volcano was in their midst. By examining the series of
events that took place at Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD and comparing them to the impacts and forecasting
of present day volcanism, one could draw better conclusions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It consists of the older volcano, a caldera, created by the collapse of its summit and the younger
volcano, Vesuvius, which rises out inside of this caldera. (Instituto Nazionale di Geofisica
Vulcanologia, n.d.)
There was some precursory activity leading up to the climactic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
The volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius during the discussed period is known as a Plinian eruption,
named after Pliny the Younger who was the only surviving witness of the events of 79 AD.
(Sigurdsson, 1982) A Plinian eruption is known to be hugely explosive. In 62 AD, seventeen years
prior to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, the Bay of Naples and especially Pompeii suffered a
destructive and powerful earthquake. This earthquake is speculated to have been a sign that magma
had moved up the volcano s chamber towards the surface and fractured the edifice of Vesuvius.
(Sigurdsson, 1982)
An eyewitness from 62 AD, known as Seneca the Younger, reported tainted air responsible for killing
600 sheep. Modern day scientists speculate that this tainted air described by Seneca the Younger may
have been Carbon Dioxide released by the volcano implying new activity from within Vesuvius,
which in modern day society could have acted as a predictor of an oncoming eruption. (Surrell, 2010)

(Hadley Hadley, 1895). The poems written in standard English were called majors, and those in dialect
were termed minors. Although the major poems outnumber those written in dialect, it was the dialect
poems that brought Dunbar the most attention. The noted novelist and critic William Dean Howells
gave a favorable review to the poems in Harper s Weekly.
This recognition helped Dunbar gain national and international acclaim, and in 1897 he embarked on a
six month reading tour of England. He also brought out a new collection, Lyrics of Lowly Life ...

Over the next five years, he would produce three more novels and three short story collections.
Dunbar separated from his wife in 1902, and shortly thereafter he suffered a nervous breakdown and a
bout of pneumonia. Although ill and drinking too much in attempt to soothe his coughing, Dunbar
continued to write poems. His collections from this time include Lyrics of Love and Laughter (Dodd,
Mead and Co., 1903), Howdy, Howdy, Howdy (Dodd, Mead and Co., 1905), and Lyrics of Sunshine
and Shadow (Dodd, Mead and Co., 1903). These books confirmed his position as America s premier
black poet. Dunbar s steadily deteriorating health caused him to return to his mother s home in
Dayton, Ohio, where he died on February 9, 1906, at the age of

Business purpose
The purpose of any budgeting or forecasting activity is to obtain a forward looking view of the
business in order to facilitate resource allocation and decision making. The financial forecasts you
prepare are a means to that end, not an end in themselves. You need to have this ... Show more content

You, or one of your team, should be available to support them in this exercise.
This should give you the basic information to prepare your operating profit and loss.
You then need assumptions on
· Borrowings Interest
· Tax
· Capex disposals
· Working capital movements
· Share issues
· Dividends
To allow you to work up a balance sheet and cash forecast.
Ensure you leave time in the plan for your team to pull the various components together and for at
least one re working of the budget if the original version is unsatisfactory.
Tools and systems
Everyone has access to Microsoft Excel and it is possible to build very effective budget systems with
this software. You need to be particularly aware of the risks of spreadsheets and the ease with which
errors can creep in.
Don t exclude the use of specialist budgeting software. Well implemented, it can dramatically reduce
timescales and improve accuracy. Look for a product that allows you to control different versions of
the budget and that integrates well both with Excel and your main business software.
In the first year of use, you need to allow plenty of time for implementation.
You will probably end up with myriad versions of the budget applying different assumptions. Keep a
log of the versions with the changes that were made so that you know exactly what each version

Popularity, Physical Appearance, and the American Dream...
For many, the American Dream is the hope for a future filled with success and fortune. Although many
may share the idea of the American Dream, each person has a different perception of what is necessary
to achieve this goal. Willy Loman, the lead character of Miller s play, Death of a Salesman, believes
that popularity and physical appearance are the keys that unlock the door to the American Dream .
We are first introduced to the importance of popularity and physical appearance when Willy is
speaking to his wife, Linda, about their son Biff. Biff Loman is lost, says Willy. In the greatest country
in the world, a young man with such personal attractiveness gets lost. In this quote, not only is Willy
confused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The boys ask their father if his business will be like their Uncle Charley s. Willy responds by saying
that he ll be, Bigger than Uncle Charley! Because Charley is not liked. He s liked, but he s not well
liked. From this example, it becomes evident that Willy thinks being well liked can make you
successful.
The most significant example, however, is also one that takes place in one of Willy s flashbacks.
Again, he is speaking to his sons about becoming successful. He tells them, ...the man who makes an
appearance in the business world, the man who creates personal interest, is the man who gets ahead.
Be liked and you will never want. You take me...I never have to wait in line to see a buyer. Willy
Loman is here! That s all they have to know, and I go right through.
From these examples, it becomes very apparent that appearance and popularity are unusually
important to Willy when it comes to being successful in the business world.
As we can see from Willy s ideas of personal attractiveness, he doesn t seem to rely on hard work very
much, particularly when it comes down to achieving the American Dream. In actuality, it is the lack of
hard work that attracted Willy to become a salesman in the first place. In a conversation with Howard,
his boss,

Spring Choral Concert Choir
Spring Choral Concert One the afternoon of Sunday, 03 May, 2015, I was watched a performance of
the North Dakota State University Spring Choral Concert Festival Concert Hall at North Dakota State
University. The NDSU Concert Choir has a distinguished tradition of performing eminent choral
literature at the highest level of artistry. When I was went to the concert, I sat in the middle of the
concert hall so I had a good view of the performers and hear the music clearly. So I had very
wonderful night and a good memory for music valuable. The last choir concert, here at NDSU. The
LAST concert made me sad, but I really enjoyed the moments. Cantemus is a terrific and wonderful
women s choir! When attending the Spring Choral Concert, it s important to have the right mindset
before it begins. I was ready to appreciate the NDSU Concert Choir, I searched some information
from the website and watched some videos. A choir is a musical ensemble of singers. So, singers are
the most important part in the performances. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A European inspired sounding consonance set the romantic mood at the beginning of this song. This is
song remind me to recall the movie named as Les Choristes .A piano and violin then alternated the
melody of the song as though they were dancing like children are playing together on the glass
dancing and laughing . The rhythm of this song, which was continuously leisurely sound like to get
faster like Moon River at the climax of the song. It was also at this point that the dynamics of the song
were increasingly getting louder until all instruments met at the top with a bang and then changed the
dynamics again to a moderate level until the song

Stylistic Devices In The Giant Wistaria
Final Analysis Writers of works of literature have long employed various stylistic devices to execute
their literary objectives. Some of these stylistic devices include but are not limited to the use of
settings, theme, and characters. Furthermore, such works can be analyzed, understood and interpreted
through the lens of theories such as Feminism, Post colonialism, and Existentialism. The use of
various stylistic devices in service of the exploration of various literary theories serves to make
literature vibrant, richer, and much more useful to the society in which the work is produced. Through
the use of the mentioned stylistic devices, writers are able to demonstrate links that exist between their
works of literature and theories such as Feminism, Post colonialism, and Existentialism.
Analyzing The Giant Wistaria Using the Feminism Theory Feminism, as a movement, can be defined
as the struggle that seeks to do away with institutionalized patriarchy. Additionally, it has the aim of
championing for the social, political, economic, and cultural equality between the sexes. In doing this,
feminism permeates all levels of society and cannot, therefore, be restricted to specific disciplines.
This is how ideas of Feminism abound in literature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case of Charlotte Stetson, her intention in writing The Giant Wistaria was to show her
displeasure with the prevailing instances of gender inequity in her society. In the case of Jean Paul
Sartre, his existential philosophical leanings have influenced the existential ideas which are
demonstrated in his short story. Equally, the experience of Philip Jeyaretnam in post colonial
Singapore has also influenced his short story. In all these short stories, the writers made use of various
stylistic devices that would work in service of the greater philosophical underpinnings of the theories
of Feminism, Post colonialism, and

Organizing Insurgency by Paul Staniland Essay
Organizing Insurgency by Paul Staniland, introduces the question, Do resources like diamonds, drugs,
and state sponsors turn insurgent groups into thuggish people or do they help build a more disciplined
organization? The reason this question is asked is because in some cases it suggests that resource
wealth encourages the degeneration of armed groups into greed and criminality and other evidence
shows that external sponsorship and criminal activity can help leaders build organizations in the face
of state repression (p.142). This question is being presented because with different insurgent groups
like the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and the Hizbul Mujahidden, having very similar
interactions with state sponsors, could have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the article Staniland states The Taliban s ability to create and maintain both central and local
institutions was facilitated by its access to an overlapping social base of Islamists linked to one
another through camps and schools of western Pakistan while remaining embedded in local
communities (p.171). Within this passage, it explains that because of the basis of the Islamist religion,
the insurgent group was able to spread throughout Pakistan making the Taliban stronger. Similarly to
the Taliban, in having a strong basis, are the rebels of Darfur. Before the Darfur genocide occurred, the
conflict originally began as an insurgency group against the government. Rebel groups drew from
main African tribes of Darfur because they were being oppressed by governmental policies and were
looking for a change. The goal of theses rebels was to assert the social, economic and political rights
of all the people of Darfur; this goal was likely to resonate with the majority of the population, making
the insurgency stronger. Just like the Taliban, the rebels in Darfur had a goal in mind that represented a
basis that resonated with the majority of the population making them stronger and explaining why
they were such a threat to the government. Subsequently, the basis of the insurgency also has
something to do with the effects resources, such as diamonds,

Citizenship And International Development Education University of Waikato Exploring Citizenship, Gobal Citizenship, and Global Citizenship Education Global Citizenship and International Development Education PCSS507 Professor Michael A. Peters 13 August 2015 Exploring citizenship, global citizenship, and global citizenship education Abstract With the progression of globalization, the recognition of how to be a good citizen and how to act as a good citizen in the global age has drawn more and more attention. In addition, the direction of education shifts from the knowledge and skills dissemination to building global values to be well connected in the world. This paper aims to indicate multiple understandings of citizenship and specifically interprets three dimensions of citizenship: citizenship as a status, as a practice and as a feeling. Besides, understandings about global citizenship will be explored as well. Last but not the least, how global citizenship education is applied to the concepts of citizenship and global citizenship in order to be a good citizen and act as a good citizen. Citizenship With regard to the concepts of citizenship, there have been a significant variety of understandings. Specifically, in Marshall s perspective (1950, p30), citizenship consists of civil, political, and social citizenship. In addition, Marshall argues that the development of civil citizenship expanded, involving political citizenship and social citizenship. I.e. Blockbuster Videos. While DVD sales declined for a third straight year in 2009, consumer appetite for viewing movies at home remains very healthy as new physical and digital services for buying and renting movies gain in popularity. The proliferation of movie rental kiosk machines over the last year was probably the most visible sign of consumer interest in viewing movies at home. To understand the impact of rental kiosks and other movie services on household disc purchasing (DVD and Blu ray), a survey was fielded to panelists who were identified as disc ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Red box has become the biggest competitor for blockbuster. I love the convenience of driving less than mile to my gas station to rent a movie for $1 dollar. Blockbuster is attempting to compete with the blockbuster express; however they don t have nearly as many units as red box. Also blockbuster express charges more for their new release then red box. I like the convenience of being able to return red box movies to any one of their locations no matter the city or state. Movies on demand is a great concept. You can order movies to your home TV as soon as there available on DVD. You can rent a movie for just about the same price as you would from blockbuster. Turning your TV on and watching a new release from the comfort of your home is priceless. Also being billed for the movie with your regular cable bill is a convenience as well. People enjoy have something that is convenient for them. Those that don t have cable can go the red box for less than a rental at block buster. Finally, I don t begin to doubt that digital movie piracy played a role. Even though authorities have begun cracking down on some of this in recent years, there s little doubt that Blockbuster and others lost millions of dollars in potential rentals when movies were illegally downloaded. All of these causes of Blockbusters troubles have something in common: technology. Without the Internet, Netflix wouldn t have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Classroom Space Impact On Students And The Overall... There have been a number of studies done to show how the amount of space that is available in a classroom can have an effect on the behavior of the students and the overall environment of the classroom. In 2003, Duncanson found that classroom space impacts how teachers and students behave. He found that classrooms with small amounts of space were prone to have inefficient pathways and look cluttered. In part, it was found that this situation was caused by the large amount of room teachers reserved for their own use and the large amount of space covered by other pieces of furniture. The arrangement of the furniture hampered the natural flow patterns and created small open spaces for students to work. Thus teachers more or less identified and assigned the spaces that were to be used by students while working on an activity (Duncanson, 2003). The ideal classroom is one where there are minimal distractions to learning, focused attention on classroom discussions and positive learning about critical subject material. With this in mind, it is important to understand what causes misbehavior and what can be done to limit it. Misbehavior must be taken in context however, since one must look at the situation and instructor to determine if a particular action falls in the misbehavior category. For example, walking around during a math lesson would be unacceptable, but walking around in a pottery class would be expected (Burden, 1995). In one study by Tiirkniiklii Galton (2001), ... I thought she picked a great topic to present on, I found the stories of the different cases incredibly interesting, and even humorous at some points. I felt that she kept everyone s attention throughout the presentation by the way she presented the information, she was not only loud but you could tell she wanted to be there and wanted to share these cases with us. She began by introducing herself and telling us about traffic lawns and not to text and drive, as well as explained the consequences of doing it, which I thought was a good way to start out and to catch everyone s attention. She then moved on giving us brief synopsis of many different court cases, explaining laws that sparked some discussion. The first court case that brought on a discussion was one related to copyrights. • 6. Killings By Andre Dubus Analysis The way the plot of Killings by Andre Dubus is arranged changes how the reader sees the characters in the story. This plot starts out in the present, then goes into the past, then back to the present. There are two main characters, and three secondary characters in this story. The way the reader views all of these characters is affected by the plot arrangement. The two primary characters who are most important to the plot, and also most affected by the plot arrangement, are Matt Fowler and Richard Strout. Because the first thing the reader reads in the exposition of the story is On the August morning when Matt Fowler buried his youngest son, Frank, who had lived for twenty one years, eight months, and four days... pg 93, and not Richard Strout s backstory and reasoning for his actions, they are immediately persuaded by the author to feel sympathy towards Matt. The author needs the reader to feel this sympathy so that when Matt kills Strout at the climax of the plot, Matt is not viewed as the antagonist of the story, but rather as the protagonist. The author needs the reader to view Strout as the antagonist so that the reader does not dislike Matt, and so that the story is one of justified revenge and not just another murder. If the reader had been presented with the plot in chronological order, with Strout s backstory and reasoning for killing Frank first, then the reader might almost feel bad for Strout. The short story Sweetheart of The Song Tra Bong, in Things They Carried, by Tim O Brien represents this by showing change in Mary Anne, who is a character the reader probably would not expect to see in a book about the Vietnam War. There are many parts show the change in her from the average high school girl she used to be into a predatory killer, but there is only one reason for her change, and that is the war itself. The changes Mary Anne goes through in this story stand out very clear. Mary Anne is inevitably drawn to the other side the other side in this case being the Vietnam War itself. She is not completely part of it yet but she sure is fascinated by it, and will be part of it soon. She displays the danger of throwing away all separation between herself and the war. She is at the point where she wants to become one with the war. However towards the end of the story, Mary Ann becomes a completely different person. This can be shown perfectly in the quote, She had crossed to the other side. She was part of the land. She was wearing her culottes, her pink sweater, and a necklace of human tongues. She was dangerous. She was ready for the kill (O Brien 116). Going back to the Vietnam War and its effect on Mary Anne. At this point, it can be seen that Mary Anne has completely crossed over. She has a necklace of human tongues, which is crazy weird. However, Mary Anne is still wearing her culottes and her pink sweater, the very pieces of clothing that made her appear so American at the beginning of the story. The reason for Mary Anne s change is not because of the Vietnamese or even Vietnam, even though it appeared to be at the beginning. It s the war itself. The war is half Vietnamese and half American. A example that shows Mary Anne going through her change is in the quote, Mary Anne made you think about those girls back home, how clean and innocent they all are, how they ll never ... People who served in the military and gave their services, risked their lives, and lost their lives for us are all veterans: They deserve our thanks. Author William Goldman wrote the highlights of The Princess Bride he resolutely incorporated internal conflict on his character. Buttercup, was told that Westley, the love of her life, was killed by a pirate she made a vow to herself that she must never love again (Goldman 69). This creates conflict with herself because she suffer, a great lost. She does not want to open herself up again to another man. Similar to A.E. Housman I shook his hand, and tore my heart in sunder and went with half my life about my ways (Pan). Most noticeable is the fact that they are all contemporary celebrities and women. However, these celebrities share another common trait that will be of much more relevance in the discussion that will follow: they have all been given the label of kleptomaniac at one point or another in the public eye due to being caught shoplifting at least once. To be fair, diagnoses made by tabloids and the media are of much less substance than medical diagnosis. It is plausible that one or more of the celebrities mentioned above who were caught shoplifting were not stealing out of a recurrent and compulsive urge. Regardless, whether ... There is a case of a man who would not eat unless his food was stolen, so a servant would take pains to hide the man s food in such a manner that the man could steal it and eat rather than die from starvation. One woman was so afflicted with the compulsion to steal that she would not hesitate in stealing offerings and tithes from church baskets at the altar. An otherwise upstanding woman was such a helpless thief that she would steal bread from her friends dinner table if there was nothing else more valuable to be had. There is even record of a clergyman whose kleptomania was so notorious that the Church eventually had to cut ties with him. A British lady, presumably of high society, was prosecuted for stealing handkerchiefs from a clothing store; the Times which reported on the case insinuated that recurrent and compulsive theft of cheap items from shops is quite common among the ladies of high society in London. This behavior was so well known that family members arranged a well coordinated effort with drivers and shopkeepers to keep tabs on their thieving ladies and to make sure that the shopkeepers got reimbursed. Sometimes the thief herself would be the one writing the check that the shopkeepers would inevitably send to their home. One of the causes of kleptomania appears to be general insanity. It was all set in motion in the Moon When the Deer Shed Their Horns , a Sioux moon of December. The Sioux were so distraught about the assassination of Sitting Bull; they could not muster an uprising. The Ghost Dance was their only hope to eradicate the white man. There was no hope on earth, and God seemed to have forgotten us. Some said they saw the Son of God; others did not see Him. If he had come, He would do some great things as He had done before. The Potential Of Fiji s Export Industry INTRODUCTION Fiji is categorized as one of the five Pacific Island countries (PICs) with the others being Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu. After attaining her independence, Fiji concentrated on her agricultural sector, specifically, sugar cane production and exportation. At the same time, the successive governments adopted an import substitution policy but later on, after the IMF intervention, she pursued an export led economic growth policy (Gani Prasad, 2007). She started diversifying her export basket to not only include agricultural products such as sugar cane but other products such as gold. The NZ Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Research Centre uses the term leakage to describe what would happen if we cut back on agriculture. If we reduce the amount of milk solids we export, for example, people across the world will still want milk. Instead, another country will seize the opportunity to fill the hole in the market, and feed the alley cat that is global greenhouse gas emissions. Not only will New Zealand be missing out on the revenue from those exports, but the countries that attempt to capitalise on New Zealand s newfound environmental stewardship may not have anywhere near the emission productivity that we do. Parts of Africa and South East Asia produce seven times more methane per kilogram of edible protein than us. • 38. The Benefits Of Irreversible Enzyme Inhibitors Enzyme inhibitors are molecules that bind to enzymes to decrease their activity. Many drugs are enzyme inhibitors because by blocking the enzymes activity it can kill pathogens (shpanskaya and Melechko, 2008) Enzyme inhibitors assist in altering the catalytic action of an enzyme in order to slow down or stop catalysis (Worthington biochemical corporation, 2015). Inhabitation can either be reversible or irreversible. During irreversible inhabitation the inhibitor detaches slowly from its targeted enzyme as it is tightly bound to the enzyme by covalent or noncovalent bonds. Important drugs such as penicillin are irreversible inhibitors. The penicillin covalently modifies the enzyme transpeptidase which prevents synthesis of bacterial cell walls consequently killing off the bacteria (Biochemistry, 2002) As opposed to irreversible inhibition, reversible inhibition is a rapid detachment of the enzyme inhibitor because the inhibitors bind to the enzymes with non covalent bonds. The volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius during the discussed period is known as a Plinian eruption, named after Pliny the Younger who was the only surviving witness of the events of 79 AD. We are first introduced to the importance of popularity and physical appearance when Willy is speaking to his wife, Linda, about their son Biff. Biff Loman is lost, says Willy. The boys ask their father if his business will be like their Uncle Charley s. Willy responds by saying that he ll be, Bigger than Uncle Charley! Because Charley is not liked. He s liked, but he s not well liked. From this example, it becomes evident that Willy thinks being well liked can make you successful. The most significant example, however, is also one that takes place in one of Willy s flashbacks. Again, he is speaking to his sons about becoming successful. You take me...I never have to wait in line to see a buyer. Willy Loman is here! That s all they have to know, and I go right through. From these examples, it becomes very apparent that appearance and popularity are unusually important to Willy when it comes to being successful in the business world. As we can see from Willy s ideas of personal attractiveness, he doesn t seem to rely on hard work very much, particularly when it comes down to achieving the American Dream. Organizing Insurgency by Paul Staniland Essay Organizing Insurgency by Paul Staniland, introduces the question, Do resources like diamonds, drugs, and state sponsors turn insurgent groups into thuggish people or do they help build a more disciplined organization? The reason this question is asked is because in some cases it suggests that resource wealth encourages the degeneration of armed groups into greed and criminality and other evidence shows that external sponsorship and criminal activity can help leaders build organizations in the face of state repression (p.142). This question is being presented because with different insurgent groups like the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and the Hizbul Mujahidden, having very similar interactions with state sponsors, could have ...
