Causes Of Migration In The World Economy Of 1870-1914
Although I explained the occurrence of wage difference between Europe and the new world, having
only one data of evidence is just not enough. As an economic student, further information is needed to
support the argument in the above paragraph. Since we already know income in the new world would
increase over the period of 1870 to 1914, I would like to investigate the cause of it, why was it
increasing when mass migration started and the population in the new world (US here at an example)
began to grow rapidly. Based on the numbers provided in Table 1 (Heitger, B. (1993, February).
Migration in the World Economy of 1870 1914 [Electronic version]. , 129(3), 1 10.), US experienced
positive immigrations from all the sending countries in Europe, which confirmed that the population
of the emigration received was indeed growing and led to the overall population growth. If the US
population was growing, what happened to the real wage? Let me form a simple economic model with
only downward sloping demand and upward sloping supply for both US and one of a European nation.
At, equilibrium their intersection determines the real wage. Since we are talking about migration, let
us assume we only have human movement between two nations. Machine and capitals are excluded
by this analysis. By looking at TableA2 (Heitger, B. (1993, February). Migration in the World
Economy of 1870 1914 [Electronic version]. , 129(3), 1 10.), we know that almost all European
countries have higher population

Interracial Marriage Interracial marriage is a form of exogamy when two spouses that belong to
different races or even on the occasion of same sex couples. Interracial marriage became legal in all of
the U.S states in 1967. The Supreme Court decision that deemed anti miscegenation laws
unconstitutional, with many states choosing to legalize interracial marriage at much earlier dates.
Many jurisdictions have had regulations banning or restricting not just interracial marriage but also
interracial sexual relations. The United States has plenty of different racial and ethnic groups, and is
now mostly common. Mostly in the South is where you will find the most problems with it. If you go

A few cons are the children may get treated differently at school at a young age, the child could come
out looking like more of one of the parents than the other. You will have to explain race to your child
before the world starts to question them. But at some point the child may be identified with one race
over the other, they may relate to one group over another due to common interests, or the fact that one
group is nicer to them than the another. But however there re pros about having a biracial child.
Having a biracial child gives them the background of two or more cultural backgrounds. They can

The Importance Of The Second Amendment To The United...
Do you know what function the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution actually serves?
No, it is not so that people can go hunting or protect themselves against personal assault. Neither is it a
stupid, brainless provision that some lamebrain slipped into the Constitution.
Like a shield of freedom, it is one of the primary reasons that the United States Constitution still
stands.
As one who is not a gun owner, I treasure the Second Amendment. It is one of our best safeguards
against tyranny, not from foreign governments, but from our own.
This amendment reads, A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the
right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
The militia written of here is a volunteer army that basically provides its own weapons. That is, these
are soldiers who are already armed, who already have their own guns.
In The Federalist Papers, the authors wrote of concerns that a standing army could lead to tyranny
(loss of freedom), so the Second Amendment was conceived in such a way that the U.S. could have an
army at need, and would not have to have a large standing army. This was so that the national
government would not threaten our freedom. (Trust me; it s in there.)
There are historical examples of governments wanting to tighten their controls over the people, so
they went out and disarmed the people (like the sword hunt in Japan), or made it illegal for them to
own weapons (there are

French people are in general very courteous and they are direct too. They are accustomed to speaking
their minds and being direct and to the point. If you sometime get annoyed by this, you will later
realize that French people are friendly and polite if you get to know them a little better.
French culture
Culture refers to the union of knowledge, experience, learning, beliefs, attitudes, values, meanings,
hierarchies, religion, notions of time, roles, spatial relations, concepts of the world, and material
objects and possessions acquired by a group of people in the course of generations through individual
and group striving.
The culture of France is diverse, reflecting regional differences as well as the influence of recent
immigration. France has played an important role for centuries as a cultural center, with Paris as a
world center of high culture.
Philosophy
France has produced a large number of leading philosophers in the European humanist tradition. One
of the first was Montaigne, in the 16th century, an inspired moralist who established the essay as an art
form. Then came Descartes, the master of logic, and the philosopher Pascal.
Writers of France
Writers and intellectuals traditionally enjoy high prestige in France. One of the most august of French
institutions is the Academie francaise, whose 40 members, most of them writers, have pronounced on
national events and, on occasion, held public office.

What Is The Theme Of The Poem No Second Troy
No Second Troy is a poem by William Butler Yeats who was one of the greatest poets of the 20th
century. The poem is written in 1912 and it is considered one of the greatest poems of the 20th
century. This literary piece is mainly about the author s love with a woman of unusual beauty but also
about the author s homeland struggling for independence. The essay is divided into two sections with
the first part of the essay providing information about crucial aspects required for an in depth
understanding of the poem and analysis of it whereas the second part of the essay will focus on a
contemporary adaptation of the Yeats work, specifically on the comparison to the Sinead O Connor

The Mission Statement Of The Healthy Marriage Initiatives
Healthy Marriage Initiative
To help couples, who have chosen marriage for themselves, gain greater access to marriage education
services, on a voluntary basis, where they can acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to form and
sustain a healthy marriage ( Healthy Marriage Initiative , 2012). This is the Healthy Marriage
Initiatives Mission statement. As part of Welfare reform, President George W. Bush implemented the
Healthy Marriage Initiative. It was enacted to address the growing issues low income families have
been facing for decades, including social problems that affect both children and the parent. This paper
will address the background, implementation, oversight, cost, and outcomes of the Healthy Marriage
Initiative.
A little background, from 1935 to 1996 a federal assistance program managed by The Department of
Health and Human Services, called Aid to Families with Dependent Children(AFDC) provided
assistance to the children of low income families. Initially, the program was restricted to white
women, but after some adjustment, the government graciously (insert sarcasm) permitted people of
color to claim the benefit. As time went on, officials (and citizens) felt it was encouraging women to
become single mothers and avoid joining the workforce. These concerns led to the development of
The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996(PRWORA), Under
this act, AFDC was replaced by the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families

Reaction Paper On The Aids Epidemic
Module 2, Activity 1: Reaction Paper
After reading the five given articles carefully there are critical points that I would like to articulate in
my reaction paper. These articles provoked me to think that we are blessed to have health professional
that were able to discover HIV/AIDS and the causes of Kaposi s Sarcoma and Pneumocystis
pneumonia of homosexual men in July 1981, following the report of these cases of PCP and cases of
other rare life threatening opportunistic infections and cancers in America we began to recognize the
importance of being aware of HIV/AIDS.
These articles outlined major events in the AIDS epidemic. The thing that stood out to me is the
information on Kaposi s sarcoma. This cancer was so rear that it may be missed and not diagnosed
even by dermatologist during the 80 s (Altman). Not being able to diagnose this rare and rapidly fatal
form of cancer was a concern of the physician s right at the beginning (Altman). There are multiple
forms of Kaposi s sarcoma from the classic Mediterranean Kaposi s Sarcoma, Endemic (African)
Kaposi sarcoma (mentioned in the article), iatrogenic (transplant related) Kaposi sarcoma and
epidemic (AIDS related) Kaposi sarcoma which is the most common type of KS in the United States
(American Cancer Society). The virus can be present in the body for a long time, often many years,
before causing major illness (American Cancer Society). When HIV damages the immune system,

smoking. Adult smoking is defined as the adult who has smoked more than one hundred cigarettes,
meanwhile, smokes majority of day during the week. Every year, Notwithstanding, there are around
four hundred thousand population suffering a premature death due to smoke, people still smoke.
Smoking causes various health problems such as stroke, lung cancer, respiratory diseases ( Adult

pointed out that, the percentage of adult smoking in New York City is 15%, in Bronx is 17% and in
Saratoga is 13%. Thus, from the interpretation of these data, the information can be perceived that the
percentage of adult smoking for both counties are near to the percentage in New York City. When it is

Casey At Bat Monologue
Casey is such an arrogant snob and now I can prove it to him now. It was our big championship game

between the Mudville 9 and the Grandville 10. It was 4 2 score with grandville in the lead. And we
still had yet to put Casey at bat. Cooney struck out, after him Burrows did the same. I thought, Do not
put Casey at the bat, or else it will be the end for us, I can feel it. So Flynn went, struck the ball and as
Flynn always does, he runs to single, the only base he has ever gotten himself to. Then Jimmy Blake
went and hit. He practically tore the cover off of the ball. Then before you knew it, Flynn was safe at
third and Jimmy Blake at second. That was actually pretty impressive on Jimmy s part, since that was

himself get strike two. The thousands of people in the stadium screamed things like CHEAT and
FRAUD. My teammates were screaming as well. I just facepalmed and went back to watching the
game.
Then Casey went back and made one scornful look and the audience was quiet again. Then his face
grew cold and his so called muscles were straining. The whole population of the stadium knew that
Casey would not let that ball pass by again. Casey was no longer sneering, he had his teeth clenched in

makers and education lobbyists continue to put academic pressures on schools and teachers while the
topic of inclusion continues to be one of the most debated topics in education (Cooper Tompkins,
1993). The Education for All handicapped Children Act (EAHCA) in 1975 (P.L. 94 142), No Child

How Is Friar Lawrence Responsible
In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, although many might point to Tybalt as the person responsible for
the death of his own and Juliet it is actually Friar Lawrence, who should be responsible, Friar
Lawrence, who is untrustworthy is most responsible because Friar Lawrence makes many bad choices
throughout the play; choices that are unforgivable. The disloyal character of Friar Lawrence results in
the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he marries the couple, helps with Juliet s fake death and runs
away from the Capulet s tomb. Friar Lawrence agrees to marry the couple, in the hopes that the

the Friar doubts his decision he still marries the couple. Once Romeo is banished from Verona, Juliet
seeks help from Friar Lawrence in hopes that he could delay her marriage with Paris. Juliet tells the
Friar that she would do anything to escape her marriage with Paris. The Friar s tells her to Take thou
this vial, being then in bed, And this distilled liquor drink thou off, (Act 4, Scene 1, 95 96). Another
mistake that the Friar has mad is giving the potion to Juliet. The Friar had many other options to delay
the marriage. Another wrong thing the friar did in this situation was he did not tell Juliet s parents and
he was not careful with getting the right message delivered to Romeo. Some may argue that Tybalt is
most responsible for the deaths of the two star crossed lovers but it is actually Friar Lawrence who
should be held responsible for the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Friar lawrence later comes to

Abstract
The intertidal zone has stressful and fluctuating abiotic conditions, making it harder for species to
survive in the environment. It is important to study the intertidal zone as it can help to understand how
the ocean is being affected by climate change (Gutowsky 2016). This study was conducted at
Cranberry Cove, NS, to investigate how abiotic conditions at different tidal heights affect invertebrate
and macroalgae diversity. A 20x20cm quadrant was used to measure species richness and diversity at

barnacle. Cladophora rupestris, Corallina officinalis, Pilayella, Chaetomorpha melagonium were the
macroalgae species that both the upper and mid pool areas contained. The mid pool area has more
biodiversity in regards to both invertebrate and macroaglae species (Figure 1 and Figure 2).
The common periwinkle was the most common invertebrate species for the upper pool area, and that

Electron Distribution Using Peas Lab
The labs I chose were Electron Distribution using Peas, Mendeleev for a Day, and Flame Tests. I
chose these labs because they helped me realize how electrons work and why the periodic table is set
up the way it is. It also helped me see how electrons work in the atoms of the periodic table. The
Electron Distribution using Peas lab helped me understand how the electrons are placed in levels
based on their energy. For this lab, we had to make a target and put peas into a funnel. After that, we
let the peas go and saw what happened. The peas represented the electrons and the parts of the target
were the different energy levels of an atom. The levels allow the electrons to keep moving up once
they are full. After this is known, then we can put that information into an electron configuration.
There is not an exact path as to where the electrons are supposed to go, so where the peas landed
showed us the different regions of high and low density. Also in this lab, the quantum mechanical
model shows that there is not a set spot as to how the electrons are going to go. ... Show more content

Mendeleev knew that there would be elements that would fill the entire table, but they were not yet
discovered, so he left their spots blank. He organized the table by their increasing atomic mass. In this
lab, our job was to mix unknown solutions with known solutions and record what happened once they
were mixed. Once we completed our objectives for the lab, we were to group the solutions with
similar characteristics like Mendeleev did when he was organizing his table. Unlike Mendeleev, we
did not group ours with atomic mass. The periodic table tells us what the atomic mass of an atom is.
The periodic table is shaped the way it is because of its properties of the elements. Mendeleev
predicted what the properties were, whereas, we saw the changes and grouped by that. (What is the

Prior to the Civil War, higher education for African American students was nearly nonexistent. The
small percentage who did receive education, such as Thurgood Marshall, often studied in informal and

Capsaicin and the Stomach Essay
Almost everyone is told that consuming capsaicin causes stomach problems, but the opposite is true.
What is capsaicin? Capsaicin is found in chili peppers which originated in Latin America; due to it
pungent flavor was traded by Spanish and Portuguese explorers during the sixteenth century to Europe
and Asia and is now one of the essential spices in the world. Chili peppers have been used for
centuries in the seasoning of food, but recently, scientists have started using it for medical purposes.
Many speculate that capsaicin helps improve and treat various health problems, some as simple as
headaches to cancer and that it can promote blood circulation, maintain weight loss, and prevent the
deterioration of the lining of the stomach. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The real culprits are bacteria called Helicobacter pylori, most commonly known as H. pylori, aspirin,
alcohol, stress, excessive acid secretion in the stomach, the reduction in gastric mucous blood flow
and anti inflammatory medicine. H. pylori are bacteria that significantly contribute to the formation of
gastric ulcers as they promote the secretion of acid and deteriorate the mucus in the stomach and when
capsaicin is consumed it kills the bacteria. Also in a study conducted by a researcher, two groups of
volunteers with normal stomach linings were given aspirin to take daily, the control group was just
given the aspirin while the experimental group was given aspirin and water with chili powder, the
results were that the control group had the most deterioration of the stomach mucus. It seems that
capsaicin slows acid secretion and promotes the production of mucus secretion. Mucus protects the
lining of the stomach and when a person suffers from gastric ulcers it is because their mucus
production is low and they secret too much acid, which eats away at the stomach s lining.
Although many scientists believe that capsaicin helps the stomach, others opinions differ, like in any
scientific study. These opposing scientists believe that capsaicin actually is a carcinogen, which means
that when used internally causes cancerous cells to form. In some experiments, rats treated with
capsaicin formed

Questions that need to be answered to write a response are does Carl Sandburg and John McPhee
convey why his subject is important? Is the description of Abraham Lincoln or Arthur Ashe better?
What main impression does each writer want to convey? How did the writers attitudes toward the
subjects affect my reaction?
The first question to answer is how does Carl Sandburg and John McPhee convey why his subject is
important? The writing of A Lincoln Preface is a upstanding writing that Carl Sandburg wrote. Carl
describes extremely well what Lincoln looked like and how Lincoln was a good person. Carl also put
his own interpretation into his writing. For example on page 456 Carl wrote He is the chosen
spokesman you can tell that he loved the way Lincoln spoke and he put his own opinion on it. John
McPhee did the same thing in his writings. John knew how his character was it was almost like he
knew the person because he knew his mother died and how Arthur Ashe died too. Also John McPhee
also used his own interpretation in his writing. He made it feel like you were at the game with Arthur

REO Case Study
E. Issues and delays related to vendors. RMS continues to see delays relating to Property Preservation
(PPI) in terms of obtaining bids and coordinating other efforts related to the property preservation. In a
recent conversation with Altisource and Ocwen regarding bid approval, Altisource indicated there are
significant delays in getting Ocwen to approve bids. During the call, Altisource aired some dirty
laundry in that Altisource is pushing back and that maybe the problem relates to the thousands of bid
submissions that Altisource has submitted to Ocwen for expense approval that Ocwen does not ever
review or approve.

and the notice to vacate did not expire until August 2017. The occupants held over and a hold over

 Asset (103369260) in New York has the warrant stayed to 10/11/17. A lockout date is pending from
the Sheriff. This asset has 281 days in REO and 227 days in eviction.
 Asset (103424313) is in New York moved to litigation from eviction. There were significant delays
in the eviction due to an attorney error that caused the eviction to be restarted. Initially, Altisource
indicated this moved to litigation due to a tenant issue (an elderly tenant that required Protective
Services involvement). However, there are 2 OTSC motions and it appears the former borrower may
be contesting the foreclosure sale. A hearing on both motions was held on May 16, 2016 and per
Altisource this is still pending a ruling from the judge. A new concern is that Ocwen recently reported
that as part of a Cost Improvement Initiative at Ocwen, they have been transferring a bulk of litigated

Kneeling In Racism
Kneeling during the National Anthem: Over the past several months, athletes have kneeled during the
playing of the National Anthem at sporting events. These athletes are doing this to protest social
injustices, specifically those involving police brutality and African Americans. After the president,
denounced protests by NFL players and rescinded a White House invitation for NBA champion
Stephen Curry in a two day rant that targeted top professional athletes, more athletes began to protest (
First MLB Player to Kneel ). On Saturday, Bruce Maxwell, a bi racial player for the Oakland A s,
became the first MLB player to kneel. Following the protest, Maxwell became the target of racial
slurs. Many people believed he was disrespecting the military and the flag by doing this. Maxwell
shared that he had many family members in the military and this had nothing to do with disrespecting
them or any other service members. His decision to do this was fueled by his own experiences with
racism growing up. He went on to say that the protest had everything to do with demanding equality
for everyone regardless of race or gender. The organization released a statement saying they respect
his decision and he also received support from his fellow white teammates. The simple act of kneeling
has created a much needed dialogue across the nation and given a voice to people who don t have one.

My Experience at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York
Never before have I seen a museum as grand as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. From
its architecture to its massive art collection, The Met has a little bit of everything and one is sure to
find something that captures his or her interest. Considering that The Met is the United States largest
art museum, it is easy to get lost within its many corridors and wings. My visit to The Met took place
during the last week of July. Despite the almost unbearable heat and humidity that hung in the air,
visiting museums under these climate conditions is a welcome respite from a suffocating, yet bright
summer afternoon. One of the first things that I noticed about The Met was its exterior architecture.
Like many historical buildings and museums, The Met s architecture is highly influenced by European
architecture; in this case, it appears as though the architecture is attempting to emulate the gothic style.
Once inside the daunting faรงade, I was pleasantly surprised to see how richly illuminated the
museum was. What made it even more remarkable was that much of the light appeared to permeate
through skylights that had been built into the building s ceiling. Moreover, I was pleasantly surprised
to see that The Met was considerably less crowded than the American Museum of Natural History,
which I had visited the day before. As I began to wander through the museum, I stumbled upon one of
the best Egyptian collections I have ever seen, with the exception of special travelling

In the wake of all that has been happening in our world, I find my revisiting of the yoga philosophy

Our inability to love and accept all the pieces of ourselves creates ripples tiny acts of violence that
have huge and lasting impacts on others. Deborah Adele
I began reading a book on the yamas and niyamas. The yamas and niyamas are the foundation to all
yogic thought. It is not a religion in and of itself, but a way of life. You can think of them as guidelines
or ethical disciplines, or as restraints and observances. There are 10 jewels in all: The first five are the
yamas, or restraints, and the last five are the niyamas, or observances.

This takes courage: Courage to step outside of societal norms. Courage to accept not only ourselves,
but to accept others, just as they are. Courage to learn the difference between belonging and fitting in.
Courage to discern between real fear that keeps you alive, and fear that keeps you from living.
Here are five ways to begin practicing ahimsa.
1. Go Outside Your Comfort Zone.
Begin by doing one thing daily that you normally wouldn t do. If you re feeling brave, make that one
thing that scares you.
2. Listen to Your Body.
Create balance by finding guidance from messages of your body. Practice yoga or find movement
through a connection to your breath and listen.
3. Check In With Yourself.
Notice what you might be avoiding in your own life because you are so interested in others lives. Are
you a worrier? A fixer? Discern the difference between help and support.
4. Pretend You Are Complete.
There is no need to expect anything from yourself, or to criticize, judge, or change anything about
you. Cultivate gratitude.

Opportunities: Large growing segment of gourmet coffee drinkers. Canada is a large market segment
that buys despite current economic downturn.
Threats: There are many threats in the current market place for KFF. The biggest threat is market
saturation. With large market segment at stake there are many competitors currently in the market
place. Big name discount retailers continue to be the largest retail supplier of coffee. This brief SWOT
analysis serves to show that although there are obstacles to entering the market, that KFF also has
many strengths and opportunities to profit from its new line of coffee to the Canadian consumer.
Competition One of the big reasons Ms. Kudler is so interested in adding gourmet coffee in her stores
is because of the massive boom in coffee over the past twenty years. Coffee has gone from a cheap
product sold in Styrofoam for twenty five cents to a coffee and espresso mixed in different
combinations with sugar and cream sold in fancy cups for over three dollars a cup. So as Ms. Kudler

Rhetorical Techniques in Richard Wright’s Black Boy Essay
Rhetorical Techniques in Richard Wright s Black Boy
Richard Wright uses language in his novel, Black Boy, as a source to convey his opinions and ideas.
His novel both challenges and defends the claim that language can represent a person and become a
peephole into their life and surroundings. Richard Wright uses several rhetorical techniques to convey
his own ideas about the uses of language.
First, Wright s language and writing style in Black Boy challenge Baldwin s ideas. For example, pages
18 19 are purely figures pf speech that convey the writer as being far different than Wright. There was
the languor I felt when I heard green leaves rustling with a rain like sound. This quote was just one of

reader in the mental imagery. Wright s mature use of rhetorical strategies in his passage challenged
Baldwin s idea that language represents the person speaking, or writing in this case. Wright s language
did not represent his parents, his youth, his school, his salary, nor his self esteem. His language merely
validified Richard as a gifted, educated man with a talent far beyond his years.
Second, similar strategies used to challenge Baldwin s ideas, were also used to defend his ideas.
Baldwin stated that language reveals a private identity, and can divorce one from the larger, public, or
communal identity. In this sense, Richard s writing did just that. For example, his syntax, full of
elongated sentences, gave his words rhythm; a rhythm that created a border between him and his
peers. The fluidity of his lines made him different from the young, black writers of his age. He used
parallelism in lines such as, there was the yearning for identification loosed in me by the sight of a
solitary ant carrying a burden upon a mysterious journey. In addition, the way in which Wright

The Theme Of Childhood In The NovelFranny And Zooey
Though not much is known about J.D. Salinger s childhood or family, a plethora of his works include
overall themes of family and how different aspects of childhood can affect someone in the future
(Wenke). In his novel, Franny and Zooey, this theme is an important part of the story (French). The
story begins with Franny Glass story, told in third person by an unknown narrator. She s taking a
weekend off from college to meet her boyfriend, Lane Coutell, to eat lunch and spend the weekend
with him for his college s football weekend. At lunch, Franny has a mental breakdown and tells Lane
about how she hates all of the fake people she encounters. She meets many poets and they all write
about what will interest people and not about what they actually feel. She finds beauty in the things
that actually have important value to people rather than something that means nothing. Lane also
questions her on the little green book she always carries around. She avoids the question until she can
t and explains she got it in her college library, which she is obviously lying about. She proceeds to go
to the bathroom and pass out. When she wakes up, Lane can tell something is wrong, but he no longer
questions her. Then it switches to Zooey s story. It is narrated by the second eldest Glass sibling,
Buddy Glass. Zooey and his mother, Bessie, are struggling to get along. She continuously questions
him, and she babies Franny and only speaks of Seymour, his brother who committed suicide, and

Sweeney Todd Summary
I. Intro.
The play Sweeney Todd has been performed on numerous stages since 1979. The 1982 version of
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, was directed by Harold Prince. Unfortunately, I
watched a recoded production of the play; the recoding took place in 1982 but was based off the 1979
production. Over all my impression of Sweeney Todd, is that the play has a bitter sweet tone that
supports all the killing, lying, and deceiving that goes on in the play just so that Sweeney Todd could

responsibility, I have been able to assist the Strategic Account Manager with questions and concerns
on verification products, as well as oversee the products that have been placed. This added attention
has decreased the negative experience communications to the Strategic Account Manager, and has
built a positive relationship with Masco and their Divisions. As the Education trainer, I have been able
to fine tune my training technique and provide support and knowledge to the new hires. Once a new
hire has been trained on all processes of the product, I continue to offer guidance and support by
inviting team members to continue their training after hours.

One Day Of The Life Of Ivan Denisovich By Alexander...
In One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the grim nature of Soviet work
camps is depicted in a realistic and relatable way. Throughout the story, the reader must constantly
remind themselves of the timeframe these events occur in. Despite the constant dangers and distress
that Ivan and his work group, 104, deal with throughout the story, this all occurs within one day.
Whether it s prison mates getting their throats slit, or Ivan smuggling in metal to create protection for
himself, they all struggle to survive in this cold unforgiving gulag. In One Day in the Life of Ivan
Denisovich Alexander Solzhenitsyn presents a perspective on the grueling life of Soviet prisoners. He
shows the senselessness of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Luckily he ends up only having to clean the floors of officers in the prison. However, one of the other
prisoners isn t as lucky when he is caught with a flannel vest on underneath his clothes, which is
forbidden. He is sent to three days in the hole, which, according to the other prisoners, could have
easily been avoided by not appearing to be so proud of himself. Which clearly illustrates the depressed
state of all the prisoners. Despite being sick, Ivan isn t able to receive healthcare since the doctor isn t
available and he also still has to work since his fever temperature isn t deemed high enough. His group
is assigned to work in the power station and while he is there he steals a piece of metal to use as a
potential defense weapon later on. Due to the outstanding work done in the power station, Ivan was
rewarded with extra bread and stew, a rare commodity. The wonderment of prisoner s reactions to
ordinary items like tobacco, which one prisoners salvaged from leftover cigarette butts, and dry bread,
shows how deprived they all were from their basic human rights. At the end of the book Ivan is
rewarded for helping a friend hide his contraband and is given a couple of biscuits, in a showing of
comradery. This is an incredibly significant book in Soviet history and Alexander Solzhenitsyn used it
as a way to show the pain and suffering the government had put upon

Weaker Yen Essay
I. Introduction
Japan s exports rate last month at the fastest annual rate in more than two years. The weaker yen also
boosted the energy heavy import bill, although the rose 10 per cent from a year earlier, economists
said the net effect of the yen s retreat remained positive, because higher export revenues translate into
higher exporter earnings and consequently more investment and worker s bonuses.
Japan s stock market is heavy on exporting, The Prime Minister Abe s government also hopes that the
export windfall will shore up general business and consumer confidence. This is way to aim to pull
Japan out of its liquidity trap and end nearly two decades of economic stagnation and deflation.
This essay will discuss about background and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
III. Objectives and Effects of Weaker Yen
The Prime Minister Abe tried to make lower currency of Yen with two strategies. First strategy is
Printing Money and second strategy is Buying Yen from other countries . Both of strategies increase
supply of JPY. [pic]
Weaker Yen sounds like loss of Japan. Actually, it brings a lot of benefits to Japan. There are many
effects from weaker Yen.
3.1 Growth of Export Companies
Japan s fiscal policy is demand pull for international consumers and Cost Push for domestic
consumers.
DPJ (Democratic Party of Japan) thinks that cost push inflation will increase the cost of goods and
services however, having demand pull is more important. It means growing demand will pull the
economy into stability (J. Metcalfe, May 2013). Lower value Yen is same as income for household. It
means an international consumer is able to buy Japanese products in lower cost.
[pic]
In Figure 3.1, previous currency of Yen was Y0 and after weaker Y1, it turned as income for
international consumers. Thus, aggregate demand for Japanese products. Increased exporting will
activate economy of Japan and there will be Inflationary gap between Y0 and Y1. It is enough to
stimulate to recover Japanese economy. The Minister Abe thought weaker Yen will bring increase of
export and demand for domestic products and services and it is true. The exporting rate of Japanese

Reflective Essay About My Family
Throughout my high school years, I tend to be a very hard worker. When given an assignment or
project, I do not like to procrastinate and wait till the night before it is due to work on it. I like to be
organized with my schedule and plan to work on assignments a few days before they re due so I can
double and triple check the work and turn it in with little to no errors. Sometimes I can be forgetful
because I am human so I am forced to work on some assignments the night before, but I make sure the
assignments I am given are completed. I am also known to be very picky on my likes and don t likes
so it s harder for me to make decisions by myself compared to when I am around my peers. Needless
to say, my family and friends are considered to be a big part of my life since I tend to be around them
the most. Typically, when it comes to family, it can be a complete toss up on the type of family you
have. Whether they are supportive and have your back or more self absorbed and afraid to show love
and compassion, their family at the end of the day. My family is the most supportive factor in my life
since they choose to be apart of it. They want to see me succeed and go on to do amazing things like
most parents do. Knowing I have them to pick me up if I were to ever fall down helps me get through
day by day. They help me to succeed and shaped me into the person I am today. My friends and family
helped me to open my eyes and realize that not everything in life won t be layed out

A Boy s Playing At War
1. How does the boy s playing at war comment on the motivation for adults to wage war? On the
horrifying carnage of the battlefield? Consider what message about war the child has learned from his
picture books. Just as the child did not understand the gravity of the situation, neither do adults,
specifically the politicians who declare war. Perhaps just as the child s upbringing prevented him from
discerning whether a human was suffering or whether it was a game, adults that wage war have the
same perspective. For example, when he observes the soldiers crawling on their knees it reminds him
of his riding on the slaves backs at his house. What I am getting at is, just as the child was conquering
imaginary enemies, the adults that wage war are letting their childish emotions affect the lives of
thousands of people. The child s distorted perception of the carnage on the battlefield is a direct result
of his upbringing. Plenty of examples exist. To name a few; first, Bierce states, ... for this child s spirit,
in bodies of its ancestors, had for many thousands of years been trained to memorable feats of
discovery and conquest victories in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was heroic to serve your country on the battlefield and you will well respected for it. However, just
as the child did not understand the situation, many others don t as well. Their perception of war is far
skewed from the actual reality, the role of Romanticism played a part in this ideology held by many.
The brutal violence one is subject to experience as a soldier in war is unforgettable. Just as the deaf
child, blind to his surroundings, saw nothing wrong with war until he arrived at his burning house to
find his mother dead, a great deal of others don t understand the gravity of the situation as well. Bierce
concealed this fact until the end to delineate that war is not some not how Romanticists pictured it,
once you experience it you will never be the

Food Quotes About Food
I Importance of food for the first generation immigrants 1) In Indian culture
Food is very important in Indian culture, morality and spirituality speaking. In the novel, there is a
ceremony that involves food : the annaprasan. It celebrates the growth of Hindu babies and their
transition from a liquid diet to a solid diet. Babies eat rice, an asiatic item. It symbolizes the entrance
of the world for them and food is used for this transition.
Like Appadurai Arjun said in Gastro Politics in Hindu South Asia , Indians are sharing food with
others. The importance of being a perfect host for their guests in order to honour them is seen in the
namesake. « as usual his mother cooks for days beforehand, cramming the refrigerator with stacks of
foil covered trays. »1
Ashima puts her heart in her cookings. They honour guests with a lot of food and they are spending
several days so that everyone is satisfied. In the movie, in the scene when Maxine comes at Gogol s ...

It can be disturbing for a child to have a link, more or less important, with all these cultures. Gogol
never really felt Indian, and he hated his name so much that he changed it for Nikhil. Gogol is

food and before his departure for India for a long time, he takes his last meal « a final meal is served,
an herbed omelette tapped with a sliced of grilled tomato. Gogol savors each mouthful, aware that for
the next eight months nothing will taste quite the same »8 He s clearly doesn t seem to appreciate
Indian food and has this need of American food just like Ashima needs Indian food : « from time to
time, they privately admit to excruciating cravings for hamburgers or a slice of pepperoni pizza or a
cold glass of milk. » He can t away with his appartenance with America, it doesn t feel like this is his

Brainology By Carol Dweck
Melchor Gomez English 99 Professor johnson November 29,2017 From Fixed To Growth Carol
dweck s article brainology speaks about christopher situation and aspects regarding his fixed and
growth mindset. By providing example from the text and carol dweck s article, this essay will further
support his growth or fixed mindset, and thoroughly analyze the article itself. One of the most basic
beliefs we carry about ourselves, Dweck found in her research, has to do with how we view and
inhabit what we consider to be our personality. A fixed mindset is that we assumes that our
intelligence, character, and creativity are static traits givens which we can t change in any way, and
success is the allegation of that inborn intelligence, an estimate of how those givens measure up
against an equally fixed standard; aiming for prosperity and dodging failure becomes a way of
claiming the sense of being smart or skilled. A growth mindset, on the other hand, emphasis on
challenge and sees failure as evidence of unintelligence but as a positive bounce ... Show more content

and I m intelligent. You also have to understand how machines work and I m good at understanding
how machines work. You also have to be someone who would like being on their own in a tiny space

My Life At The Veterans Home Essay
I vividly remember that chilly night in March as I walked out of Fifer, the building my father now
calls home, for the first time. I had goosebumps, but they were not from the cold I felt hit my skin.
Instead, they were from the sickness in my stomach. As I got in the car, I began to cry and had to stop
myself from running back inside. My entire world had turned upside down. How could I go home
without my father? How could I leave him in a nursing home, a place where he was too young and
mentally fit to be confined? I had to fight the feeling that he didn t belong. I had to remind myself of
why he chose to be there, and I hated it.
During my junior year of high school, my father made the difficult decision to go live at the Veterans
Home. For thirty five years he had lived with Multiple Sclerosis, a debilitating disease characterized
by the destruction of the myelin sheath insulating the nerve cells. This degradation affects all
movement by slowing or altogether halting nerve impulses to the muscles. As a result, my father
became permanently wheelchair bound around the time I started kindergarten. By my junior year of
high school, he struggled with even simple tasks such as writing, dressing, grooming, and eating. It
reached the point where he could no longer live at home without round the clock care. This revelation
was earth shattering but not a shock. It was yet another natural progression of the disease. Still, this
did not prepare me for the emotions I experienced.

Business is a field abundant with jobs. Entering the field of business almost guarantees a career. The
reason to choose business is because business is a wide field and someone can go into many different

  • 2. Causes Of Migration In The World Economy Of 1870-1914 Although I explained the occurrence of wage difference between Europe and the new world, having only one data of evidence is just not enough. As an economic student, further information is needed to support the argument in the above paragraph. Since we already know income in the new world would increase over the period of 1870 to 1914, I would like to investigate the cause of it, why was it increasing when mass migration started and the population in the new world (US here at an example) began to grow rapidly. Based on the numbers provided in Table 1 (Heitger, B. (1993, February). Migration in the World Economy of 1870 1914 [Electronic version]. , 129(3), 1 10.), US experienced positive immigrations from all the sending countries in Europe, which confirmed that the population of the emigration received was indeed growing and led to the overall population growth. If the US population was growing, what happened to the real wage? Let me form a simple economic model with only downward sloping demand and upward sloping supply for both US and one of a European nation. At, equilibrium their intersection determines the real wage. Since we are talking about migration, let us assume we only have human movement between two nations. Machine and capitals are excluded by this analysis. By looking at TableA2 (Heitger, B. (1993, February). Migration in the World Economy of 1870 1914 [Electronic version]. , 129(3), 1 10.), we know that almost all European countries have higher population ... • 5. The Importance Of The Second Amendment To The United... Do you know what function the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution actually serves? No, it is not so that people can go hunting or protect themselves against personal assault. Neither is it a stupid, brainless provision that some lamebrain slipped into the Constitution. Like a shield of freedom, it is one of the primary reasons that the United States Constitution still stands. As one who is not a gun owner, I treasure the Second Amendment. It is one of our best safeguards against tyranny, not from foreign governments, but from our own. This amendment reads, A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The militia written of here is a volunteer army that basically provides its own weapons. That is, these are soldiers who are already armed, who already have their own guns. In The Federalist Papers, the authors wrote of concerns that a standing army could lead to tyranny (loss of freedom), so the Second Amendment was conceived in such a way that the U.S. could have an army at need, and would not have to have a large standing army. This was so that the national government would not threaten our freedom. (Trust me; it s in there.) There are historical examples of governments wanting to tighten their controls over the people, so they went out and disarmed the people (like the sword hunt in Japan), or made it illegal for them to own weapons (there are ... • 9. The Mission Statement Of The Healthy Marriage Initiatives Healthy Marriage Initiative To help couples, who have chosen marriage for themselves, gain greater access to marriage education services, on a voluntary basis, where they can acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to form and sustain a healthy marriage ( Healthy Marriage Initiative , 2012). This is the Healthy Marriage Initiatives Mission statement. As part of Welfare reform, President George W. Bush implemented the Healthy Marriage Initiative. It was enacted to address the growing issues low income families have been facing for decades, including social problems that affect both children and the parent. This paper will address the background, implementation, oversight, cost, and outcomes of the Healthy Marriage Initiative. A little background, from 1935 to 1996 a federal assistance program managed by The Department of Health and Human Services, called Aid to Families with Dependent Children(AFDC) provided assistance to the children of low income families. Initially, the program was restricted to white women, but after some adjustment, the government graciously (insert sarcasm) permitted people of color to claim the benefit. As time went on, officials (and citizens) felt it was encouraging women to become single mothers and avoid joining the workforce. These concerns led to the development of The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996(PRWORA), Under this act, AFDC was replaced by the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families ... Catherine Robertson B00670867 Abstract The intertidal zone has stressful and fluctuating abiotic conditions, making it harder for species to survive in the environment. It is important to study the intertidal zone as it can help to understand how the ocean is being affected by climate change (Gutowsky 2016). This study was conducted at Cranberry Cove, NS, to investigate how abiotic conditions at different tidal heights affect invertebrate and macroalgae diversity. A 20x20cm quadrant was used to measure species richness and diversity at upper and mid intertidal zones. A LabQuest2 was used to measure temperature and salinity ... The invertebrate species common to both mid and upper pool areas were dog whelk, green crab, smooth periwinkle, blue mussels, rough periwinkle, isopod, common periwinkle and acorn barnacle. Cladophora rupestris, Corallina officinalis, Pilayella, Chaetomorpha melagonium were the macroalgae species that both the upper and mid pool areas contained. The mid pool area has more biodiversity in regards to both invertebrate and macroaglae species (Figure 1 and Figure 2). The common periwinkle was the most common invertebrate species for the upper pool area, and that acorn barnacle was the most common invertebrate species for the mid pool area (Figure 1). The Ulva linza is the most common macroalgae species for the upper pool areas, and Fucus distichus is the most common for macroalgae specie (Figure 2). I chose these labs because they helped me realize how electrons work and why the periodic table is set up the way it is. It also helped me see how electrons work in the atoms of the periodic table. The Electron Distribution using Peas lab helped me understand how the electrons are placed in levels based on their energy. For this lab, we had to make a target and put peas into a funnel. After that, we let the peas go and saw what happened. The peas represented the electrons and the parts of the target were the different energy levels of an atom. The levels allow the electrons to keep moving up once they are full. After this is known, then we can put that information into an electron configuration. There is not an exact path as to where the electrons are supposed to go, so where the peas landed showed us the different regions of high and low density. Also in this lab, the quantum mechanical model shows that there is not a set spot as to how the electrons are going to go. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mendeleev knew that there would be elements that would fill the entire table, but they were not yet discovered, so he left their spots blank. He organized the table by their increasing atomic mass. Once we completed our objectives for the lab, we were to group the solutions with similar characteristics like Mendeleev did when he was organizing his table. Unlike Mendeleev, we did not group ours with atomic mass. The periodic table tells us what the atomic mass of an atom is. The periodic table is shaped the way it is because of its properties of the elements. Mendeleev predicted what the properties were, whereas, we saw the changes and grouped by that. • 20. Capsaicin and the Stomach Essay Almost everyone is told that consuming capsaicin causes stomach problems, but the opposite is true. What is capsaicin? Capsaicin is found in chili peppers which originated in Latin America; due to it pungent flavor was traded by Spanish and Portuguese explorers during the sixteenth century to Europe and Asia and is now one of the essential spices in the world. Chili peppers have been used for centuries in the seasoning of food, but recently, scientists have started using it for medical purposes. Many speculate that capsaicin helps improve and treat various health problems, some as simple as headaches to cancer and that it can promote blood circulation, maintain weight loss, and prevent the deterioration of the lining of the stomach. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The real culprits are bacteria called Helicobacter pylori, most commonly known as H. pylori, aspirin, alcohol, stress, excessive acid secretion in the stomach, the reduction in gastric mucous blood flow and anti inflammatory medicine. H. pylori are bacteria that significantly contribute to the formation of gastric ulcers as they promote the secretion of acid and deteriorate the mucus in the stomach and when capsaicin is consumed it kills the bacteria. Also in a study conducted by a researcher, two groups of volunteers with normal stomach linings were given aspirin to take daily, the control group was just given the aspirin while the experimental group was given aspirin and water with chili powder, the results were that the control group had the most deterioration of the stomach mucus. It seems that capsaicin slows acid secretion and promotes the production of mucus secretion. Mucus protects the lining of the stomach and when a person suffers from gastric ulcers it is because their mucus production is low and they secret too much acid, which eats away at the stomach s lining. Although many scientists believe that capsaicin helps the stomach, others opinions differ, like in any scientific study. These opposing scientists believe that capsaicin actually is a carcinogen, which means that when used internally causes cancerous cells to form. In some experiments, rats treated with capsaicin formed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the first things that I noticed about The Met was its exterior architecture. The 1982 version of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, was directed by Harold Prince. Unfortunately, I watched a recoded production of the play; the recoding took place in 1982 but was based off the 1979 production. Over all my impression of Sweeney Todd, is that the play has a bitter sweet tone that supports all the killing, lying, and deceiving that goes on in the play just so that Sweeney Todd could get his so called revenge. Consider what message about war the child has learned from his picture books. Just as the child did not understand the gravity of the situation, neither do adults, specifically the politicians who declare war. Perhaps just as the child s upbringing prevented him from discerning whether a human was suffering or whether it was a game, adults that wage war have the same perspective. For example, when he observes the soldiers crawling on their knees it reminds him of his riding on the slaves backs at his house. What I am getting at is, just as the child was conquering imaginary enemies, the adults that wage war are letting their childish emotions affect the lives of thousands of people. The child s distorted perception of the carnage on the battlefield is a direct result of his upbringing. Plenty of examples exist. One of the most basic beliefs we carry about ourselves, Dweck found in her research, has to do with how we view and inhabit what we consider to be our personality. A fixed mindset is that we assumes that our intelligence, character, and creativity are static traits givens which we can t change in any way, and success is the allegation of that inborn intelligence, an estimate of how those givens measure up against an equally fixed standard; aiming for prosperity and dodging failure becomes a way of claiming the sense of being smart or skilled. I had goosebumps, but they were not from the cold I felt hit my skin. Instead, they were from the sickness in my stomach. As I got in the car, I began to cry and had to stop myself from running back inside. My entire world had turned upside down. How could I go home without my father? How could I leave him in a nursing home, a place where he was too young and mentally fit to be confined? I had to fight the feeling that he didn t belong. I had to remind myself of why he chose to be there, and I hated it. During my junior year of high school, my father made the difficult decision to go live at the Veterans Home. For thirty five years he had lived with Multiple Sclerosis, a debilitating disease characterized by the destruction of the myelin sheath insulating the nerve cells. This degradation affects all movement by slowing or altogether halting nerve impulses to the muscles. As a result, my father became permanently wheelchair bound around the time I started kindergarten. By my junior year of high school, he struggled with even simple tasks such as writing, dressing, grooming, and eating.
