Does An Image Really Mean Something By Fred R. Barnard
Analytical Essay: Does an Image Really Mean Something
Fred R. Barnard once said, One picture is worth a thousand words. Fred R. Barnard had memories,
which were captured through images that explained how he felt about certain experiences in life. An
image can be very helpful for individuals to capture the life experiences to reminisce later on.
Manipulation of the images leads to many different interpretations of it. Each individual will analyze
the same image in different ways based on their past experiences. The manipulation of the image
allows each individual to come up with their own unique meaning of an image and relate it to their
own experiences in life. Images can be manipulated and photoshopped in a way where it can mean
what an individual wants it to mean. We are in an era where manipulation of the images ... Show more

Advertisers manipulate and Photoshop images to relate it to the customers to promote their products.
Now a day manipulation of the image makes it very difficult to point out what is real and what is
made up therefore individuals have to really analyze an image to make it relate to their own life.
Christine Rosen on the Image Culture gave a very modest overview of how much images can mean to
the individual. She also talks about the positive as well as the negative aspects of images. The image
that I have chosen resembles determination and hard work. The image can explain how I had never
given up on hope to get a better life.
Christine Rosen on the Image Culture mentions, Americans love images. We love the democratizing
power of technologies such as digital cameras, video cameras, Photoshop, and Power Point that us the
capability to make and manipulate images (355). Making an image according to our own

Compare And Contrast Antigone And Othello
Antigone was brave to stand up against the men in charge in her time and she died not because she
necessarily had a flaw but because she never gave upon her beliefs. Othello s flaw was succumbing to
jealousy which leads to his downfall. While both characters can be considered tragic hero s we can see
many similarities and differences as we observe them through Aristotle s definition of a tragic hero.
Aristotle breaks down tragic hero s by the hamartia, hubris, and the peripeteia. These describe the
downfall of a hero, their reversal in fortune, and the disrespect for the natural order of things. After
comparing Antigone and Othello through Aristotle s definition of a tragic hero, I believe that Antigone
is closer to a true tragic hero than Othello.
While Antigone did not have a thematic flaw like Othello did, her headstrong attitude and
unwillingness to let her Uncle Creon giver her brother Polyneices an improper burial would set the
chain of events leading to her downfall. The Hamartia is the tragic flaw that causes the hero s
downfall, and in this sense the greater tragedy is that Antigone could not escape death because her
character strongly believed the laws of the Heavens were greater than those of Creon s. No matter how
she chose to argue against Creon, her end result would have been grave, they considered stoning her
before locking her in a tomb and starving her. Antigone ultimately decided to take her own life rather
than have her convictions broken, something we can clearly see when she boldly states If life must be
a thing of fear and lying and compromise; if life cannot be free, gallant, incorruptible then, Creon, I
choose death! .
Othello was a beloved and respected general in the Venetian army, but through a paranoid fit of
jealousy he conspires with Iago to kill his wife and her thought to be lover Cassio. While it is clear
that the theme of Othello is jealousy, the green eyed monster , Othello never has solid proof of the
affair. Most of the evidence is circumstantial, but word of mouth through Iago coupled with Othello s
extreme jealousy pushes him to desire to murder his wife Desdemona and close friend Cassio. Othello
claims to have a profound love for Desdemona but it simply takes one

Descriptive Essay On Dorm Life

College Dorm Life
When considering about college, the first thing came to mind is life in a dormitory. I have heard horror
stories about living in dorms which made me anxious about my upcoming dorm life. What would life
be when living away from parents? What adjustments would require making from home to dorm life?
How would the balance of time when managing myself? New problems from dorm ate and neighbors?
What is it like to shower in a co ed bathroom? Countless questions have popped in mind before I
stepped in college. However, recalling from this one month of college life, I have noticed some
significant changes as I move out from the roof of parents and into a dorm room.
The Joe West Hall is one of the residential halls at San Jose State University which hosts approximate
600 freshmen. It is considering the worst building here at SJSU since it is the only building that
without air condition. I have chosen to live in a double occupancy room in Joe West under the choices
of single, double and triple. When I first entered in my dorm, the spacing is as small as I thought it
would be before. Our dorm room is furnished with two twin beds, desks, chairs, dressers, and closets.
It is just a single small room which could fairly use by myself. As the only child from home, my
parents were worried that I would have trouble sharing living space with someone else for the first
time. However, I did manage not to have

The Vignette Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong
The vignette Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong of the larger novel The Things They Carried depicts an
innocent young girl becoming tainted by the realities of war. The main issue discussed in this segment
is the mental illness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or more well known as PTSD. An article by
CNN reporter, Eric Zillmer, also talks about PTSD but heavily talks about the aftermath of war on the
human psyche. As the author, Tim O Brien, pulls on our heartstrings by showing the forge of such a
mental illness in an innocent girl. Zillmer takes a more scientific route by explaining the cause of such
mental illness and possible ways to prevent PTSD. As both authors depict PTSD as something
appalling each one depicts it in opposite ways. Tim

The Monkeys Paw Character Analysis
Zikera Newsome
6th period
03/07/17 The Monkeys Paw The Monkeys Paw by W.W Jacobs. This novel is taking place inside and
around the White family home, called Laburnum Villa. The novel is probably set around the time it
were to be published; in 1902.The author manipulate time by going slow. The setting changes but it
does not affect how the characters are in the novel. As the story progresses, the house becomes
progressively darker and spookier. He uses the horror genre to talk about some very serious issues.
Sgt. Major Morris tells the Whites that the old fakir who put the spell on the paw said, Fate rules
people s lives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sgt. Maj. Morris wanted to make three wishes because only three men could use it and the fakir was
the man who put a spell on the paw but it also is a curse. The character I relate to the most is Mr.
White because he is trying to protect the paw and people from it. Inside of the story is Man vs. Man
because Mr. White is making a decision to make a wish or let three other men make the wishes their
selves. Internal because man vs. man is inside decision he is having with himself. The first thing that
happened in the story that changed it was that Mr. White gave the paw away for a trifle, second thing
was that Mr. White came in with two hundred pound of British money, and the third thing was a man
getting hurt in the second scene. A mystery is the outcome of the man disappearing without anyone
knowing what happened. The monkeys paw is the central idea of the story and everything is around
that title from page 26 it says, It had a spell put on it by an old Fakir, said the Sergeant Major, a very
holy man. He wanted to show that fate ruled people s lives, and that those who interfered with it did so
to their sorrow. He put a spell on it so that three separate men could each have three wishes from it.

Commercials And Target Buyers Based On Gender
For some people its the catchy jingle that catches their attention. For others it may be the famous
celebrity that appears on their screen. Some people are even drawn in by the corny catch phrases and
over dramatic acting. No matter the case, companies tend to spend billions of dollars in advertising,
pursuing customers to buy their must have products, and spending whatever money necessary to get
their messages across to those watching. Throughout the years, marketing executives have realized
that they must refine their commercials and target buyers based on gender. Advertisements on
television have exposed images which are stereotypical representations and somehow have been
constructing cultural ideas about gender along the way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The viewer does not know where these women are running towards but soon more and more women
appear on the screen; some running in the jungle, some swimming through the ocean, and others
climbing a mountain. One might address that through all this activity, these perfectly thin women are
still wearing basically nothing on their body and seem to be competing to get somewhere for they are
pushing and shoving one another. Then out of no where, there is one average looking, twenty
something, man just standing in the middle of the beach, with a look of pure joy, while millions of
women are clawing their way to him. This man is simply putting on Axe deodorant and the words
Spray More, Get More. The Axe Effect comes up on the screen right before the commercial ends. The
ad portrays how the use of this deodorant will make any man irresistible to every woman and to many
boys watching the commercial, they probably wouldn t complain if this situation happened to them.
Dove however took a different approach in selling their Dove Clinical Protection Deodorant. The
commercial opens up with the words what happens when beauty meets strength as the song Pretty
Baby by Minnutes happily plays in the background. Cue different videos of women applying the
deodorant as they confidently get ready for their day. Phrases such as will take herself on a date today
and will run with the guys today begin to appear on the screen. The ad continues to follow

Serial Killer Vs Mass Killer
Over the course of the semester we discussed many things in this class one being serial and mass
murderers. Under that umbrella we discussed the differences between the two, the victims they may
attack, the reasons why they kill, personal backgrounds, and explanations to why they kill. At the end
of this course we were asked to pick a type of killer and explain what it is we learned from them. For
this paper I chose to talk about serial killers. The killers I chose to discuss are Paul Bernardo and Karla
Homolka but we will get to them later on.
Serial killers differ from mass murderers because serial killers kill over a period of time with a cooling
off period whereas mass murderers have one big killing with four or more victims and no cooling ...

However, there was some childhood trauma for Paul. At a young age his father was convicted of child
molestation. His mother suffered from depression. This caused Paul to beat/harm his girlfriends he had
in college and to eventually become a sexual sadist. Paul was a bright young man who graduated from
the university of Scarborough. Neither killer had a criminal record prior to their convictions stated
above. I classified each serial killer as both organized and disorganized. I say that because DNA was
left at the scene of their crimes but they strategically lured and disposed of their victims. Over the
course of the semester we have discussed many types of killers such as partner groups, serial, and
mass murderers. We discussed why killers kill and we also discussed specific killers. I have grown to
enjoy the criminology of killers. I have also learned that we can t really screen for certain types of
killers due to self fulfilling prophecy. I chose the Ken and Barbie killers because I wanted to know
why certain killers engage in relationships and kill at the same time. I wanted to know what the
purpose was of that type of dominance and I was able to find

Examples Of Neglect In Christianity
Neglect in Christianity For the past one hundred and thirty six years (1875) a religion founded on the
belief that any illness is an illusion and that anything can be healed through prayer was created by

Hawkeye Character Analysis
Society as a whole tells us (or at least my generation) that we watch too much television, but I have to
admit, I live for M*A*S*H reruns. If it were a horse, I would ride off into the sunset on it like some
sappy love story. If you asked me about my ideal day, it would consist of having a M*A*S*H palooza
complete with hot chocolate and that super buttery popcorn that makes you feel all greasy. What I like
most about M*A*S*H is that it s not just a show. It discusses various controversial topics that are still
relevant today. For instance, in one episode, the characters disobeyed their commanding officer in
order to aid a soldier who was terrified of war. What they highlighted was that kindness should
outweigh orders. M*A*S*H also has very real characters, so much so that they seem to come to life. I
feel like the 4077th M*A*S*H unit is my family. Some of the characters in the series are very
descriptive of me.
Captain Benjamin Franklin Hawkeye Pierce is the main character. I love his wit and attitude that can

Whitney Houston. This song came out right after Houston got out of rehab, making it seem like it was
her recovery song and the way she told the world she was back in the entertainment world (Oprah

In the novel, Getting to Yes, Roger Fisher and William Ury articulate that [A]ny method of negotiation

1 In academia the concept that Fisher and Ury describe is known as integrative negotiation a win win

Little Miss Sunshine film (2006) tells the story of seven year old Olive Hoover who gets the chance to

Genghis Khan Number One Conqueror Essay
Have you ever wondered who the number one conqueror in history is? I know as a fact that a lot of
people don t even ask that question but, this essay will discuss how I believe Genghis Khan is the
number one conqueror in history. As my reasoning, I support the idea that Genghis Khan is the
number one conqueror in history because, compared to other leaders and empires; Genghis Khans
army or the Mongol Empire has conquered exceedingly more, not only did he subjugate more land he
on average took less time to occupy the land than others, and he and his empire has maintained their
land over a longer period than others.
First and foremost, Genghis Khan has vanquished approximately 12.5 million square Km, which is,
inferiorly further than what other conquerors have overcome. In comparison, Alexander the Great has
seized 5.6 million square Km, while as said earlier, Genghis Khan invaded double than what

would use scare tactics to suppress any incoming revolts against him and his empire. As another
reason to how they lasted for 200 years is that, Genghis gave birth to many offspring in which he
taught them his great tactics of war causing the next heir to be knowledgeable and can control the
massive Empire. Sadly though, after those 200 years China took back their Empire causing the start of
the fall of the Mongol Empire.
As a conclusion, this essay is to bring proof that Genghis Khan is the number one conqueror in
history. With prominent facts, such as, the largest rein of land, least time consumption of conquering,
and the longest lasting Empire. I hope you can also conclude that Genghis Khan is the number one

The Many Languages of Australia and New Zealand
As of 2013, there are many languages spoken both in Australia and New Zealand. Having a history
dating as far as the 18th century, both countries constitute the Austral realm. Within its many aspects,
one of the most notorious is its language. Known by the humorous effect some of its sentences and
words provoke in people, the language of the Austral realm has helped shape the identity of Australia
as well as New Zealand and has become an essential spectrum of their culture.
In spite of its variations and the reasons behind its current status, this research paper will be focusing
upon the four main languages of the Austral realm: English, New Zealand s and Australia s sign
language, Australian Indigenous language and the Maori language in New Zealand. Each language has
impacted the Austral realm in its own way and will be viewed both individually and in comparison
within the realm s two states. English s history, what constitutes the signs in New Zealand s sign
language, Australian accent... all of them are part of a culture both beautiful and unique and should,
therefore, be treated with the same care as one would treat any relic.
The Austral realm s languages are viewed by its people as more than only an idiom. Its evolution
throughout decades of history has transformed both Australia and New Zealand into a unique society,

Teenagers will change their friends and hang out with others that are going through similar
experiences or worse. Adults might change the way they treat their loved ones because of the
behavioral effects of using drugs. According to Mental Health.gov (2014), social life changes involve
a change in friends and hobbies, a need for money for an unexplained reason, relationship and legal
problems. There are many more problems that can be added or included in to those categories and
affect people. The experience of having a loved one experiencing social issues can impact the family
and friends. A job may no longer be kept because of the work related issues that may arise between
coworkers. A son may no longer spend time at home and instead opt to hang out with others that are
abusing substances as well. Parents can separate and affect their children future because they cannot
behave in the home environment.
Alcohol is very dangerous and many will still continue to consume it but there are several ways to
cope with abuse. Alcohol anonymous is a well known organization that can help men and women who
are struggling to quit or are tired of the effects that the substance abuse has caused them. According to
Alcoholic anonymous (2014), the organization was started in 1935 by a New York stockbroker and an

What Is The Theme Of The Third Wish
The Third Wish is a fantasy short story written by Joan Aiken which talks about an unsuccessful
marriage. While, The Monkey s Paw , a mystery short story written by W. W. Jacobs, warns the
character the consequences of wishing, that led to losing a loved one. Both incorporate common
features like the use of three wishes as the motif, and the sense of atmosphere created with
foreshadowing and metaphors. The next few paragraphs will be talking about the characterization that
shapes the main plot, the meaning behind the symbolic items and the inspirational theme that created
the mood.
The main theme from the two stories are different. The Monkey s Paw , deals with the disruption of a
talisman in a form of a monkey s paw to the harmonious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the monkey s paw , a monkey s paw became a symbol of desire and greed, until Mr. White came to
the realization of the appalling truth that, fate ruled people s lives... Furthermore, this talisman is also
associated with the historical context of India; it interfered and rebelled on the fate and belief of the
British as a sign of revenge of the British s rule over India in the Victorian age. Nevertheless, the evil
power of the monkey s paw itself symbolize the unpleasant history of the paws it belongs to. In
addition, The Third Wish , a withered leaf and a white feather were the last objects Mr. Peters held
onto in his death. The feather epitomizes his faith of love to Leita, and, that even if your wishes are
granted they don t always better you . The white feather symbolizes his memory with Leita and
because Mr. Peters was always thankful for what he could afford, the leaf of wishes became a
memorable lesson of his life. As a similarity of both these objects, the main characters came to the
realization as the consequences from their wishes uncover and to solve them, they

My Friend s Fiesta De Quinceanera
No mama coño there are no more damn ties that match with this shirt! I immediately answered back to
my mom, annoyed. How could that possibly happen to me? I was not allowed to go and the sun was
already going down. Out of all the nights it had to be that one. My short temper caused me to get in
trouble with my mom and all I had to do was find a tie that matched the shirt. I truly believed I would
have ended surely staying home and missing out my friend s quinces. It was all I was looking forward
to since i found out i was invited. Even though I was really excited it wasn t because it was my friend
s fiesta de quinceañera but because someone really special was invited, someone that I would have
never guessed would have affected my life so much. Well anyways, how can it happen I had no idea
but it did, tragically the unavoidable occurred. It s quiet average from that age after all I was only 15,
to fall in love with someone again. Do I believe in love in first sight? Well sometimes it only depends
on how amazing the significant other is or how foolish you are yourself. Nothing horrifying can
happen if you truly like someone especially when you left that person for someone else in the 6th
grade and that someone else left you for someone else. Well it really just ruins you makes you forget
about the equilibrium of life, or what s the good and bad. Becoming a new self being, you are who you
want to be. You are yourself, creating a different point of view on everything mostly

Essay on Crew Resource Management (Aviation)
In this day Crew Resource Management (CRM) is strongly evident within the aviation industry.
Having developed a positive reputation over the years of its application, it is highly recognised as an
icon for safety practices among many major operators. Airline operators and wider aviation industries
adopt CRM, on a global scale, to attain the desired goal of influencing flight crew members to operate
more safely and effectively as one co operative unit (rather than as individuals). The positive
application of crew resource management envisages minimised risks and consequently, safer skies for
all. One common definition of CRM can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fifty seconds after reaching their assigned altitude, Captain Loft required First Officer Stockstill s
assistance in removing the nose wheel indicator light assembly to investigate the likeliness of a blown
light bulb and hence, instructed him to engage the autopilot at 2000 feet. For the next eighty seconds
the plane maintained level flight. Then it dropped one hundred feet (30 m), and then again flew level
for two more minutes, after which it began a descent so gradual it could not be perceived by the crew.
In the next seventy seconds, the plane lost only 250 feet (76 m), but this was enough to trigger the
altitude warning C chord chime located under the engineer s workstation. The engineer (or Second
Officer) had gone below deck following Loft s instructions, and there was no indication by the pilot s
voices recorded on the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) that the warning chime was acknowledged. In
another fifty seconds, the plane was at half its assigned altitude. The CVR recorded the last few
moments of conversation between the crew, acknowledging the change in altitude: Stockstill: We did
something to the altitude. Loft: What? Stockstill: We re still at 2,000 feet, right? Loft: Hey what s
happening here? (NTSB, 1973) Official observations find a probable cause of this accident to be the
insufficiencies of flight crew to properly monitor flight instruments

An Analysis Of Conor Grennan s The Little Princes
Before and after In Conor Grennan s the little princes a young man by the name of Conor Grennan is
bored with his typical day to day life and decides to spend his life savings on a yearlong trip around
the world. Before he begins his worldwide trip, he volunteers at an orphanage in Nepal named the
little princes mainly out of a sense of guilt rather than an actual desire to help. Expecting it to be a
short and meaningless time he soon finds himself on a long and difficult journey that will change him
in ways that he never expected. Through his time with the children of the orphanage Conor finds
himself changing in ways he did not expect as he experiences the world outside of his own country,
develops a genuine desire to help others before himself, and eventually gaining a new sense of
purpose. This change brought on by his time spent with the children is apparent throughout his
journey as he is tested again and again to see how far he will go and just what kind of man he will be
in the end. In the beginning of his long Journey Conor is a simple man about to turn 30 and sets off on
a yearlong trip to experience the world which he has never known. His first look upon the outside
world is when he comes to Nepal and see s the damage the war has inflicted upon the country and its
people in. Though the country is in a such a war torn state, Conor is impressed by the children who
despite their situation still retain their childhood spirits, creating their own games and playing together
as normal children do, as Farid said They are very resourceful, these children. You will find they do
very much with very little. (part 1 chapter 1). Conor is not just impressed by the children s retaining of
their playfulness and love of fun, but also the way they take care of themselves and each other as their
own form of family, as Conor states himself That s Nepal. Children take care of one another. (part3
chapter4). Conor see s even more of the destruction the war has wrought as he searches for the parents
of the children, seeing villages of people no better off than the children of the little princes . Though
Conor see s the dark and desolate parts of the world, he also witnesses people who despite the state of

Lack Of Women s Rights Of Muslim Women
The rights of women have been debated in communities around the world for centuries. Many
religions have agreed that women deserve to have the basic rights of men, but in the Muslim world,
men are allowed to decide which rights, if any, their sisters, daughters, wives, female cousins, and
even mothers can express. Islamic men should not have this extreme power over women. Many
Muslim feminists, including some men, have tried to stand up to this nonsense and have been
murdered for standing up for the rights the Qur an has given them. The typical Muslim woman is
equal to a Muslim man according to the Qur an (M. Ali and A. Ali Web), but Islamic law permits men
to abuse women s rights in their family or household (Friedland Web). Islam is not ... Show more

Islam should not be an exception to equal rights and the women affected would agree, but they cannot
because they cannot speak for themselves. Disrespect, abuse, and murder: when will these crimes
against females it end? The government control what happens to these poor, innocent women that are
stuck in relationships and marriages they never wanted, want to speak out so badly for their rights.
Any women should have the right to be independent and not be forced to depend on a male guardian.
All women should have the right to express themselves by whatever means they wish. Women should
be allowed to mingle with whoever they wish, whenever they wish. Muslim women deserve the right
to be a woman, to speak, to learn, to drive, and to live without permission. The women of Islam
should be allowed to declare independence from their family or their husbands. They should be
allowed a long, healthy, prosperous life with or without a man. There needs to be certain laws
preventing the rape, murder, and abuse of women world wide. Murder should never be allowed or go
unpunished. Women s rights are more than just the rights of women, they are their livelihood. Muslim
women need the right to choose and think for themselves without having to fear for their lives or their

Disney Magic Kingdom Description
Images of rocket ships, trains, and flying elephants dance in my head. While turkey legs, pirates, and
haunted mansions toy with my emotions. Memories fade as I grow older with fleeting thoughts as I try
to recall my last Disney adventure. That visit has created some wonderfully vivid memories that will
last a lifetime. Disney s Magic Kingdom was celebrating a major anniversary during a year long
event. A building sized cake, parades stretched a mile long, and fireworks that filled the night sky, all
enhanced just for my viewing pleasure or not. While visiting my favorite areas of the park my
childhood imaginations were awakened. Lifelong vivid memories and a magical experience started as
soon as I arrived.

Hall of Presidents in Liberty Square. Head back to Main Street to experience the Disney s night

over the castle for the concluding spectacle. Disney s magical realm provides wonder and

encirclement with which in the long run there can be no permanent peaceful coexistence. (Citation

  • 3. Does An Image Really Mean Something By Fred R. Barnard Analytical Essay: Does an Image Really Mean Something Fred R. Barnard once said, One picture is worth a thousand words. Fred R. Barnard had memories, which were captured through images that explained how he felt about certain experiences in life. An image can be very helpful for individuals to capture the life experiences to reminisce later on. Manipulation of the images leads to many different interpretations of it. Each individual will analyze the same image in different ways based on their past experiences. The manipulation of the image allows each individual to come up with their own unique meaning of an image and relate it to their own experiences in life. Images can be manipulated and photoshopped in a way where it can mean what an individual wants it to mean. We are in an era where manipulation of the images ... Now a day manipulation of the image makes it very difficult to point out what is real and what is made up therefore individuals have to really analyze an image to make it relate to their own life. Christine Rosen on the Image Culture gave a very modest overview of how much images can mean to the individual. She also talks about the positive as well as the negative aspects of images. The image that I have chosen resembles determination and hard work. The image can explain how I had never given up on hope to get a better life. Christine Rosen on the Image Culture mentions, Americans love images. • 4. Compare And Contrast Antigone And Othello Antigone was brave to stand up against the men in charge in her time and she died not because she necessarily had a flaw but because she never gave upon her beliefs. Othello s flaw was succumbing to jealousy which leads to his downfall. While both characters can be considered tragic hero s we can see many similarities and differences as we observe them through Aristotle s definition of a tragic hero. Aristotle breaks down tragic hero s by the hamartia, hubris, and the peripeteia. These describe the downfall of a hero, their reversal in fortune, and the disrespect for the natural order of things. After comparing Antigone and Othello through Aristotle s definition of a tragic hero, I believe that Antigone is closer to a true tragic hero than Othello. While Antigone did not have a thematic flaw like Othello did, her headstrong attitude and unwillingness to let her Uncle Creon giver her brother Polyneices an improper burial would set the chain of events leading to her downfall. The Hamartia is the tragic flaw that causes the hero s downfall, and in this sense the greater tragedy is that Antigone could not escape death because her character strongly believed the laws of the Heavens were greater than those of Creon s. No matter how she chose to argue against Creon, her end result would have been grave, they considered stoning her before locking her in a tomb and starving her. Antigone ultimately decided to take her own life rather than have her convictions broken, something we can clearly see when she boldly states If life must be a thing of fear and lying and compromise; if life cannot be free, gallant, incorruptible then, Creon, I choose death! . Othello was a beloved and respected general in the Venetian army, but through a paranoid fit of jealousy he conspires with Iago to kill his wife and her thought to be lover Cassio. While it is clear that the theme of Othello is jealousy, the green eyed monster , Othello never has solid proof of the affair. Most of the evidence is circumstantial, but word of mouth through Iago coupled with Othello s extreme jealousy pushes him to desire to murder his wife Desdemona and close friend Cassio. Othello claims to have a profound love for Desdemona but it simply takes one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Descriptive Essay On Dorm Life Siyao Huang English 1AF Jada Patchigondla October 13, 2017 College Dorm Life When considering about college, the first thing came to mind is life in a dormitory. I have heard horror stories about living in dorms which made me anxious about my upcoming dorm life. What would life be when living away from parents? What adjustments would require making from home to dorm life? How would the balance of time when managing myself? New problems from dorm ate and neighbors? What is it like to shower in a co ed bathroom? Countless questions have popped in mind before I stepped in college. However, recalling from this one month of college life, I have noticed some significant changes as I move out from the roof of parents and into a dorm room. The Joe West Hall is one of the residential halls at San Jose State University which hosts approximate 600 freshmen. It is considering the worst building here at SJSU since it is the only building that without air condition. I have chosen to live in a double occupancy room in Joe West under the choices of single, double and triple. When I first entered in my dorm, the spacing is as small as I thought it would be before. Our dorm room is furnished with two twin beds, desks, chairs, dressers, and closets. It is just a single small room which could fairly use by myself. As the only child from home, my parents were worried that I would have trouble sharing living space with someone else for the first time. However, I did manage not to have ... The Vignette Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong The vignette Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong of the larger novel The Things They Carried depicts an innocent young girl becoming tainted by the realities of war. The main issue discussed in this segment is the mental illness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or more well known as PTSD. An article by CNN reporter, Eric Zillmer, also talks about PTSD but heavily talks about the aftermath of war on the human psyche. As the author, Tim O Brien, pulls on our heartstrings by showing the forge of such a mental illness in an innocent girl. Zillmer takes a more scientific route by explaining the cause of such mental illness and possible ways to prevent PTSD. • 7. The Monkeys Paw Character Analysis Zikera Newsome 6th period 03/07/17 The Monkeys Paw The Monkeys Paw by W.W Jacobs. This novel is taking place inside and around the White family home, called Laburnum Villa. The novel is probably set around the time it were to be published; in 1902.The author manipulate time by going slow. The setting changes but it does not affect how the characters are in the novel. As the story progresses, the house becomes progressively darker and spookier. He uses the horror genre to talk about some very serious issues. Sgt. Morris wanted to make three wishes because only three men could use it and the fakir was the man who put a spell on the paw but it also is a curse. The character I relate to the most is Mr. White because he is trying to protect the paw and people from it. Inside of the story is Man vs. Man because Mr. White is making a decision to make a wish or let three other men make the wishes their selves. Internal because man vs. man is inside decision he is having with himself. The first thing that happened in the story that changed it was that Mr. White gave the paw away for a trifle, second thing was that Mr. White came in with two hundred pound of British money, and the third thing was a man getting hurt in the second scene. A mystery is the outcome of the man disappearing without anyone knowing what happened. The monkeys paw is the central idea of the story and everything is around that title from page 26 it says, It had a spell put on it by an old Fakir, said the Sergeant Major, a very holy man. He wanted to show that fate ruled people s lives, and that those who interfered with it did so to their sorrow. He put a spell on it so that three separate men could each have three wishes from it. • 8. Commercials And Target Buyers Based On Gender For some people its the catchy jingle that catches their attention. For others it may be the famous celebrity that appears on their screen. Some people are even drawn in by the corny catch phrases and over dramatic acting. No matter the case, companies tend to spend billions of dollars in advertising, pursuing customers to buy their must have products, and spending whatever money necessary to get their messages across to those watching. Throughout the years, marketing executives have realized that they must refine their commercials and target buyers based on gender. Advertisements on television have exposed images which are stereotypical representations and somehow have been constructing cultural ideas about gender along the way. ... The viewer does not know where these women are running towards but soon more and more women appear on the screen; some running in the jungle, some swimming through the ocean, and others climbing a mountain. One might address that through all this activity, these perfectly thin women are still wearing basically nothing on their body and seem to be competing to get somewhere for they are pushing and shoving one another. Then out of no where, there is one average looking, twenty something, man just standing in the middle of the beach, with a look of pure joy, while millions of women are clawing their way to him. This man is simply putting on Axe deodorant and the words Spray More, Get More. The Axe Effect comes up on the screen right before the commercial ends. The ad portrays how the use of this deodorant will make any man irresistible to every woman and to many boys watching the commercial, they probably wouldn t complain if this situation happened to them. Dove however took a different approach in selling their Dove Clinical Protection Deodorant. The commercial opens up with the words what happens when beauty meets strength as the song Pretty Baby by Minnutes happily plays in the background. • 9. Serial Killer Vs Mass Killer Over the course of the semester we discussed many things in this class one being serial and mass murderers. Under that umbrella we discussed the differences between the two, the victims they may attack, the reasons why they kill, personal backgrounds, and explanations to why they kill. At the end of this course we were asked to pick a type of killer and explain what it is we learned from them. For this paper I chose to talk about serial killers. The killers I chose to discuss are Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka but we will get to them later on. Serial killers differ from mass murderers because serial killers kill over a period of time with a cooling off period whereas mass murderers have one big killing with four or more victims and no cooling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, there was some childhood trauma for Paul. At a young age his father was convicted of child molestation. His mother suffered from depression. This caused Paul to beat/harm his girlfriends he had in college and to eventually become a sexual sadist. Paul was a bright young man who graduated from the university of Scarborough. Neither killer had a criminal record prior to their convictions stated above. I classified each serial killer as both organized and disorganized. I say that because DNA was left at the scene of their crimes but they strategically lured and disposed of their victims. Over the course of the semester we have discussed many types of killers such as partner groups, serial, and mass murderers. We discussed why killers kill and we also discussed specific killers. I have grown to enjoy the criminology of killers. I have also learned that we can t really screen for certain types of killers due to self fulfilling prophecy. I chose the Ken and Barbie killers because I wanted to know why certain killers engage in relationships and kill at the same time. I wanted to know what the purpose was of that type of dominance and I was able to find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you asked me about my ideal day, it would consist of having a M*A*S*H palooza complete with hot chocolate and that super buttery popcorn that makes you feel all greasy. What I like most about M*A*S*H is that it s not just a show. It discusses various controversial topics that are still relevant today. For instance, in one episode, the characters disobeyed their commanding officer in order to aid a soldier who was terrified of war. What they highlighted was that kindness should outweigh orders. M*A*S*H also has very real characters, so much so that they seem to come to life. I feel like the 4077th M*A*S*H unit is my family. Some of the characters in the series are very descriptive of me. Winter storms have come, and darkened my sun. After all that I ve been through, who on earth can I turn to? I look to you. This is a quote from the song I Look to You by Whitney Houston. This song came out right after Houston got out of rehab, making it seem like it was her recovery song and the way she told the world she was back in the entertainment world (Oprah Winfrey Show, 2009). In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Houston told her about the new song and album. She said, That makes it real. The changes that we go through, being a mother, becoming a single mother. It all has its ups and downs, but for the most part, I kept my faith and I kept my head up...I took my time. She later added, All the triumphs and the ups and downs and stuff, it s all incorporated on the album, and hopefully not only it inspires me, but it inspires a whole lot of other people. Whitney Houston was an American singer, actress, and model. She was the most awarded African American singer and actress of all time (Finkelman, 2009). Houston was also one of pop music s best selling music artists of all time, and she estimated selling around 170 200 million records worldwide throughout her career. Getting You Yes, By Roger Fisher And William Ury In the novel, Getting to Yes, Roger Fisher and William Ury articulate that [A]ny method of negotiation may be fairly judged by three criteria: It should produce a wise agreement if agreement is possible. It should be efficient. And it should improve or at least not damage the relationship between the parties. 1 In academia the concept that Fisher and Ury describe is known as integrative negotiation a win win process, based on pursuing interests, that focus upon an ongoing relationship between negotiating parties. 2 Although this concept appears simplistic, its efficient outcome is rarely achieved. Far too often negotiators fall quarry to distributing resources, instead of using creativity to expand the pie . However, the ability to negotiate, like any skill, can be improved. Over the course of six business negotiation simulations, students, Katelyn Burke and Emilie Croonenberghs, aimed to advance their negotiation skills. Each case provided an opportunity to discover the key fallacies associated with negotiation and, more importantly, how different factors can affect bargaining. By implementing scientific research and applying formal knowledge the students aimed to reflect on each business simulation starting with Biopharm Seltek and concluding with Mexico Venture. • 17. Genghis Khan Number One Conqueror Essay Have you ever wondered who the number one conqueror in history is? I know as a fact that a lot of people don t even ask that question but, this essay will discuss how I believe Genghis Khan is the number one conqueror in history. As my reasoning, I support the idea that Genghis Khan is the number one conqueror in history because, compared to other leaders and empires; Genghis Khans army or the Mongol Empire has conquered exceedingly more, not only did he subjugate more land he on average took less time to occupy the land than others, and he and his empire has maintained their land over a longer period than others. First and foremost, Genghis Khan has vanquished approximately 12.5 million square Km, which is, inferiorly further than what other conquerors have overcome. In comparison, Alexander the Great has seized 5.6 million square Km, while as said earlier, Genghis Khan invaded double than what Alexander ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As another reason to how they lasted for 200 years is that, Genghis gave birth to many offspring in which he taught them his great tactics of war causing the next heir to be knowledgeable and can control the massive Empire. Sadly though, after those 200 years China took back their Empire causing the start of the fall of the Mongol Empire. As a conclusion, this essay is to bring proof that Genghis Khan is the number one conqueror in history.
