Essay about Carl Gustav Jung
Carl Gustav Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and
founder of the school of analytical psychology. He
proposed and developed the concepts of the
extroverted and introverted personality,
archetypes, and the collective unconscious. The
issues that he dealt with arose from his personal
experiences. For many years Jung felt as if he had
two separate personalities. One introverted while
the other was extroverted. This interplay results in
his study of integration and wholeness. His work
has been influential not only in psychology, but in
religion and literature as well. Jung was born on
July 26, 1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland, the only
son of a Protestant clergyman. At the age of four
his family moved to Basel. His childhood was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Jung
published quot;Psychology and the Unconscious quot;
which went against some of Freud s ideas the
relationship was finished forever. In 1912
quot;Symbols and Transformations of the Libido quot; was
published. Jung wanted to understand the
symbolic meaning of the contents of the
unconscious. In order to distinguish between
individual psychology and psychoanalysis Jung
gave his discipline the name quot;analytical
psychology. quot; After a break with the start of WWI,
Jung wrote the book quot;Psychological Types quot;. It set
the differences between his position and that of
Freud. Jung became more interested in the study
of mythological and religious symbolism. His
studies took him across the globe observing many
different cultures. He was interested in tracing the
analogies between the contents of the unconscious
in Western man and the myths, cults, and rituals of
primitive peoples. Jungian therapy deals with
dreams and fantasies. A discussion is set up
between the conscious and the contents of the
unconscious. When the therapy works the patient
enters an individuation process. This consists of
psychological transformations ending in the
opposite tendencies working together to achieve
personal wholeness. Jung s total amount of work is
very large. It is estimated at 200 papers. An
edition of his Collected Works in English was
completed in 1972 by the Bollingen Foundation

Convocation In High School
When I was told going to Convocation equals extra credit, I knew that I was going to go. I was told
throughout high school to take every opportunity at extra credit that I could get. Now, it is a habit that
is instilled in me. Little did I know I would get more out of Convocation than I ever believed possible.
Convocation started with some formalities such as the Moment of Silence and the National Anthem.
To be completely honest with you, I did not know what was going to happen next. Was this going to
be beneficial? Or was I going to sit through something completely bored? The President of Cleveland
State, Bill Seymour, stood to talk to the student body. He began to explain to us what exactly
Convocation was: a way to unite the campus community, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He brought to light that beginnings result in an ending. The words he spoke were so passionate about
how we should be during college. He talks about getting involved and taking advantage of resources.
My brain was running a mile a minute: this was not what I was told about community college. The
others that spoke during Convocation seemed to share the same goals. Justin Deal really connected
with the students very well. His words solidified what I was think big college, but small world.
Sinthea Reynolds spoke about how learning is a long process. We should always be learning everyday.
He told the students that the biggest thing that the faculty and staff could teach us is the ability to
teach ourselves. Ryan Thompson welcomed us by recognizing that we could have gone anywhere.
This really hit home for me. I was accepted to both Lee and Tennessee Wesleyan before deciding that
Cleveland State was where I belonged. I really decided to become a Cleveland State student, because
they were the ones to help me the most with my college pursuit. She challenged us to follow the path

The Process Of Deduction Logic
In social research, traditional and non traditional methods are used to explore and examine research
queries and relate methods of data collection and observation. One conventionally accepted method is
through deductive logic. Deductive logic is research that begins with a theory and arrives at a specific
expectation through a series of scientific steps. Both explanatory and exploratory techniques can be
used in deductive. In contrast, inductive methods, in which researchers examine specific data sets and
detect general patterns, are considered non traditional. In inductive logic, the identification of
empirical patterns result in a generalization about some social process (Schutt, 2012, p. 45).
The process of deduction logic begins with statements, also known as premises , that are assumed to
be true. A determination is made regarding additional factors that must be true if the premises are true.
A special logical structure, known as modus ponens, is a rule asserting that a hypothetical proposition
according to which if the antecedent be affirmed, the consequent is affirmed (Merriam Webster, 2015).
The form of any argument having the structure of modus ponens is as follows: Given P, if P then Q,
so, Q. Using this structure, any argument is stated as the major premise, the minor premise, and the
conclusion. In this way, the statements are evaluated in terms of validity and soundness.
The strength of deductive reasoning is its consideration of validity and

The American Dream In Nickel And Dimed By Barbara Ehrenreich
One new experience can bring a whole other dimension. Viewpoints on life change, knowledge is
gained through mistakes, and one may find themselves trapped in a maze like situation that they need
to find a way out of. However, making the best out of one s position through determination,
perseverance, and courage can slowly reverse the difficulty of handling it. Eventually, as strength is
regained from tough obstacles, the desire to obtain their dreams escalates even further, which aids in
working harder and striving to reach their goals. Barbara Ehrenreich, the author of Nickel and Dimed,
depicts the financial struggles of single mothers who raise their families through minimum wage jobs
after the welfare reform affected their lifestyles. In the novel, Ehrenreich tests the limits of living in
poverty by accepting any scarce job that was offered, and provides insight that although it was
exhausting to balance her needs and her hectic work schedule, by diligently laboring, constantly
persisting in seeking the better, and voicing out the wrongs, it can eventually lead to the attainment of
the American Dream. Through the struggles of stabilizing two jobs at once while searching for a
temporary home, Ehrenreich displayed the frustration of sticking to her three guidelines in her
experiment: she cannot go hungry, be homeless, or ignore the skills she learned through her education
and past work experiences. She struggled to find jobs that provided more than minimum wage
incomes in

Compare And Contrast In Another Country And Ambush
In both In Another Country by Ernest Hemingway and Ambush by Tim O Brien, there are aspects that
are similar. To get a clear aspect of what both texts look at, Hemingway writes about a short story that
is based on the impacts of World War I on soldiers. The short story mainly focuses on how these
particular soldiers experienced the traumatic event of having to participate in the war which was both
psychologically and physically harmful to them. In Ambush O Brien narrates from a first person
perspective of his account when he was a soldier, the story is based on his last war story that aims at
telling her daughter the truth when she gets older. The two texts have a number of similarities and
contrasts as well. In terms of the similarities, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theme is similar to the one presented by Hemmingway because of the notion or concept used to
develop it. War is a common factor in both texts, seeing that in the text by Hemmingway, war is the
central theme while in Ambush, it has been used to develop the main theme of the text. O Brien s
regret is from throwing the grenade and having to kill all those people he killed. The regret is from
killing the soldiers and all he wished for was that the soldiers had just walked away past him, that way
he wouldn t have had to throw the grenade. In developing the theme, O Brien uses visions to show the
regret and also to contemplate on what would have happened if things were to happen differently. The
two stories were both similar in their story line which was about war. However, the main themes in
both stories differ. While one explores World War 1 and the effects it had on the soldiers who played a
part in it, the other explores the resentment one ex soldier has for killing a soldier while at war and he
wishes the circumstances were

Reflective Essay On Loss Of Life
Just the mere thought of dying makes me feel petrified. In just a snap of a finger it can alter someone s
life. No one really ought to think about their own death. Thinking about it felt like it would happen
sooner. To come to the point, I am not yet ready. Hence, I was still enjoying this stunning life I was
facing. I am still dreaming and desiring. I am not yet pleased of what I accomplished.
According to S. Luper (2014), death is said to be the end of life. He said that being conscious doesn t
literally meant being alive. Dead means a loss of capacity. Advocate of the loss of life claims that if it
exists, it is alive, but if not, then it is not alive. Believing in afterlife will be the only thing which will
make us feel that this event in our life will be our transition to the next big step we are going to face.
So we need to keep our feet on the ground, continue our faith and discover the whole new world
waiting for us.
I am fully aware that death will come. Maybe today, tomorrow, or the next day. No one really knows.
Before this loss of life I will undergo, I look forward to leaving my loved ones in a peaceful condition.

The Truth about Marie Antoinette
Marie Antoinette was born on November 2, 1755, in Vienna, Austria. Marie Antoinette was a queen
that ruled with a powerful, wealthy, fist. She was a foreign wife and queen once she married King
Louis XVI of France. Throughout her rule over France, Marie Antoinette was kept under a light of
ignorance by the people, and therefore, should not be blamed for their suffering, the French
Revolution, and the failures of her husband. She was hated by the people of France the moment she
became queen, which ultimately led her to her downfall. Queen Marie Antoinette is known for her
infamous quote let them eat cake , in a scandal where she supposedly turned a blind eye to the
famished. The people of France pointed their fingers at Marie Antoinette, and believed she frankly
participated in the scandal they accused her of: the scandal that led to her death by guillotine: the
Affair of the Diamond Necklace. Marie Antoinette was also blamed for The French Revolution and
the suffering of the poor people, but the citizens of France were already poor long before she became
queen. The French Revolution was a time of political and social disruption, and the change of their
absolute monarchy. Marie Antoinette was part of the monarchy, so she was disliked, but she was not
the cause of The French Revolution. Her husband, King Louis XVI, made known

History Day Failure
Failure can feel devastating when you are living through the experience. I felt this way during one of
the greatest failures in my life, failing to qualify for State History Day in my junior year of high
school. This was my third History Day competition and I had previously qualified for State. While I
entered the event with confidence from previous competitions and a final product that I thought was
close to perfect, experiencing failure this time taught me how to strive for the best that I can be,
persevere through tough times, and that sometimes your best isn t always the best. In preparation for
History Day, I had created a 10 minute documentary about Senator Robert Dole and his impact on the
disabled community through his work with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Going into the district
competition, I put countless hours of work into the project, from combing through the hundreds of

efficiently, even during late night work sessions, so that I could meet deadlines and perfect the project
as much as possible. Mediocrity was never an option, as I wanted to put in effort that would result in
an excellent product. Finally, after not moving on in the competition, I realized that my best may not

Mad Men Symbolism
The 1960 s was still in the midst of the throwaway society. Everyone wanted everything new.
Anything that was old or outdated was thrown into the garbage. There was no talk about recycling. In
one scene Don is having a picnic with his family and when they are done, don s wife flips over the
picnic blanket and scatters their leftover litter everywhere, don also throws his finished beer can into
the lake. The symbolism is that they are materialistic. They check their hands, so they don t dirty the
car, but it s okay to pollute the property they don t own.
Unhealthy habits were not questioned in the 1960 s. Consequently, as long as everyone got along and
looked the part an unhealthy habit was ignored. Advertisement dominated many people s decision
making reasoning. If people saw an ad encouraging smoking they wanted to smoke as well. You never
second guessed what you were told or else you were thought of as a rebel or someone who went
against the grains of society. Such as Smoking in the 1960 s was the thing to do; it was not questioned.
It would be equivalent to owning a cell phone today or not owning one. You are considered odd if you
didn t follow along. Roger Sterling is one character in Mad Men rarely seen without a glass of vodka
in his hand even at work. Drinking and smoking on the job was the social norm, as long as everyone
behaved, it was accepted.
Women s role in society was to behave and shape themselves to fit into men s ideals. Peggy upon

Cooperation And Altruism Is What Largely Divides Humans...
Cooperation and altruism is what largely divides humans from other animals. While some primate and
certain other species do seem to show some precursors to these types of behaviors, none come close to
the ability of humans to help each other. Much of this has to do with our ability to act unselfishly
despite the fact that in the short term being selfish would be more beneficial. Some groups take this to
the extreme like the Hutterites who live in a society where everyone works to serve others. In his book
The Origins of Virtue Matt Ridley claims that we are all Hutterites at heart (38). However, this does
not actually seem to be true the majority of the time. In fact, more often and not, we act selfishly if we
can get away with it without any repercussions. One of the strongest bits of evidence against this
statement comes from experiments in children that show that very young children are more likely to
act selfishly instead of altruistically. Additionally, game theory studies have shown that people are
overall more selfish when they are anonymous compared to when their actions and decisions are being
watched. This would seem to indicate Hutterite s beliefs are not so central to our lives. At the same
time, these studies also show that people are not as selfish as would be expected if they were only
looking out for their benefit. And there are plenty of instances where a person goes out of their way to
help a complete stranger. Overall, I think Ridley s claim is mostly

Essay on Kiwi Series
Kiwi Series #1
My choice of artwork for this essay is titled Kiwi Series # 1. This painting is made by Dennis
Wojtkiewicz in 2005. The size of this painting is 36 by 66 inches. The medium used in this painting is
the oil on canvas. I chose this painting because it appeals to my sense of aesthetics and also it has the
most interesting use of texture. This painting is an excellent example of our sight being able to
activate other senses. The presentation of the translucent fruit and fuzzy skin is so convincing that we
have a visual and a tactile reaction and for some, a sensation of taste. The painter has used actual
texture in this painting. In this essay, I will talk about the subject matter and then the content. I will

Chiaroscuro is also evident due to the illusion of light and shadow as the light source is coming from
the top. Casting shadow on the table. There are areas of strong contrast such as the light color of fruit
against the dark background. Sfumato is also evident in this painting. The dark colors of the seeds also
create contrast against the light color of the fruit. Also there is contrast of the seeds against the bright
area near it. The color is a local color as it replicates the appearance of the real world. The colors are
natural. The fruit is green and light green in color. The seeds are black. A slight brown color is also
used near the edge of the fruit. The texture is simulated. If someone would touch this painting, they
would feel slight bumps of the paint. For the most part, the artist has simulated the texture of the fruit.
The background of the painting appears to be smooth. There is not much space in the painting. The
figure is right at the forefront of the painting so the painting has shallow space. The background is
dark and we could not see anything except the fruit. Principles:
The balance in this painting is symmetrical. The right side is very similar to the left side. If I were to

same. The painting is populated almost the same on both sides. The dominant part in this painting is
the half cut kiwi fruit. It occupies almost 85% of

BMX Bikes And Emotional Pain
Do you ever get so angry that there is smoke about to come out your ears? I have been angry and just
about to lose it when I was not getting my way. What really makes me angry is crashing my BMX
bike, competing in sports, and losing a bike race. First of all, crashing my BMX bike causes me real
pain. The pain I feel is both emotional and physical pain. The emotional pain I feel when I have to pay

What´s Vertical Integration
When searching for research to analyze and write about, I leaned more towards marketing and sales,
which I want to ultimately work in. When I came across this article Moving close to the customers:
effects of vertical integration in the Swedish commercial printing industry , I was interested in what
vertical integration was and what it meant. I also was caught by the fact this was published using
Swedish commercial printing. In this day and age, our country is becoming more and more globalized,
and relies on other countries services and goods. I always find it interesting what other countries are
doing in terms of business and maybe industries in America can learn from what they have
implemented.
Starting of reading this article, I was completely lost and wanted to quit. Vertical integration seemed
too big of a concept to wrap my head around and the article had so many stats and figures I was going
crazy. After dissecting the article parts by part and figuring out what vertical integration meant, the
research started to make sense. To start off what the research talks about lets define vertical integrated.
According to Adelman, it states that a firm is vertically integrated whenever it transmits from one of
its departments to another good or service which could, without major adaptation, be sold in the
market. . Ultimately a company is vertically integrated when firms integrates activities in the value
chain to produce its own inputs and/or takes care of its own

The Stressors that Come with Fame
I want to be just like Miley when I grow up! is something that many parents are hearing nowadays.
This is obvious because the life of a celebrity is such great fun, or many not. Many times the thought
of being famous and having someone recognize your name has crossed our minds. But the negative
side of fame hasn t. We don t stop to ponder the scrutiny that comes with being a celebrity. Not even
how this can cause depression and self esteem issues, which can lead to problems further down the
road such as substance abuse and addiction.
Brittany Spears was part of the original cast of cast of the Mickey Mouse Club, has had several
meltdowns where she shaved her head, and smashed a car with an umbrella. Alongside Britney stars
like Jodi Sweetin, who played Stephanie on the show Full House have struggled with drug addiction
in her later years. However there are success stories such as Justin Timberlake, who also started on the
Mickey Mouse Club and is now a world renowned artists, selling out shows around the world. Natalie
Portman, who first appeared in her role in the movie The Professional, is a Harvard graduate and a two
time golden globe award winning actress. Despite these rare success stories there are many struggles
that come along with fame that most of society does not take into account. Many times these stresses
are ones that most common people do not experience, therefore they cannot relate to many celebrities.

Agamemnon By Euripides Essay
Euripides was classic Athens. He is one of whose plays have long survived. Importantly, he was well
identified with theatrical innovation, which has profoundly influenced drama up to the modern times,
most especially in the representation of traditional, mythical heroes as the ordinary people in an
extraordinary circumstance. Apparently, was so unique among many writers of ancient Athens because
of his abundant sympathy that he demonstrated towards the victims of society, most especially being
women. Agamemnon, Orestes and Electra were the main characters in the plays. The play revolves

Later, Orestes killed two sons of Thestes and cut them into pieces, then served them at a banquet to
their father during an honor of his return (277). It was a horrible experience for Thyestes after
discovering what was prepared for his meal. He then went away from Argos with only his infant child
called Aegisthus after cursing both Orestes and his descendants. After the death of Orestes, the throne
was left under Agamemnon his son, who later married a daughter of Sparta s king. They bore three
children, of which one inherited his father s throne upon death. The remaining son of Orestes married
Helen, who became king of Sparta upon her father s death. Another seduction in the descendants of
Orestes occurs. Later after the wedding, Paris who was the son of Troy s king, seduced Helen then
took her away. A great force was organized to restore Helen to her husband. However, due to adverse
winds, they were unable to sail towards Troy. They appeased goddess Artemis to calm the winds by
sacrificing a young girl who arrived at the camp. They sailed to Troas but there was a lot of

The New York Times, By Jon M. Gibson
Introduction Kyle Cooper is one of the most prominent and influential designers of both the 20th and
21st centuries. As Jon M. Gibson states, his title sequences have, ...brought attention to an art form
that has long been considered an afterthought... . With more than 150 title sequences, five Emmy
nominations, the Title of Honorary Royal Designer and the winner of the AIGA medal in 2014,
Cooper has become a huge affect with title designers in the 21st century. His creation of the title
sequence for Se7en (1995) is what brought the limelight to Cooper, after having such a success with
both the public and filmmakers all around the world. The New York Times went so far as to say that
this specific title sequence was one of the most important design innovations of the 1990s. Influenced
by the works of Pablo Ferro, Saul Bass, Stephen Frankfurt and Maurice Binder, Cooper s style and
designs changed the way in which title sequences for movies, series and video games are done
nowadays, by evoking a revival in the importance of a meaningful and well designed title; something
that had been gradually lost in the previous decades.
Pre Se7en Era As a child, Cooper was highly influenced by American horror films and horror comic
books, which would leave him with an idea of ...evil as an active, supernatural force in the world. A
motif that is clearly seen in his work, as his sequences usually include depictions of evil or have dark
undertones, like in Arlington Road (1999), where Cooper

Classify Types Of Drivers
There are an estimated two hundred and sixty million registered vehicles in the United States of
America. Every one of these drivers has a unique background which shows through their different,
and sometimes unbearable, driving habits. Although it can be hard, it is important to realize that you
will not be the only person going out and driving today. One has to be cautious of others who may be
driving poorly. More importantly, it is necessary for us to avoid those distracted drivers that seem to
be inattentive and in a world of their own while attempting to drive.
Since receiving my driver s license, I have noticed different types of drivers everywhere I go. These
drivers appear everyday, no matter where you drive, and can either make or break your entire day.
While the term driver can be applied to almost anyone operating a motor vehicle, the way a person
drives often changes with age and experience. I am sure the types of drivers you have come across can
be classified in one of these four categories: The neutral driver, the cautious drivers, the reckless
drivers, and the unpredictable drivers. You may also classify yourself under one of these categories at

A Literature Review Of Citizen Science
A Literature Review of Citizen Science
Rich Leopold
11/12/2014
Citizen science is the collaboration of the scientific community directing volunteers in data collection
efforts. In a citizen science program the scientist maintains a leadership position and directs all actions
according to the scientific need. Citizen science relies on the individual s, or groups, motivation to
perform the required tasks. Citizen science programs are generally focused around data gathering. The
volunteers must be trained in sound scientific practices in order to ensure the highest quality data
possible. These programs allow for the scientific community to harvest larger quantities of data and
allow the volunteers to become active members in the scientific community.
Citizen science is not a new concept. There have been historic instances of large groups of volunteers
participating in scientific data collection, such as the National Audubon Society annual Christmas bird
count in 1900 (Bonney, Cooper, Dickinson, Kelling, Phillips, Rosenberg, Shirk, 2009, p. 977). The
Cornell Lab of Ornithology has a citizen science program, which has been in operation since 1966.
Each year over 200,000 citizen scientists contribute to ongoing research each year. Over 60 research
papers, since 1997, have been published, using results derived from data received from participants in
various programs (Cornell Lab of Ornithology, 2014).

Everyone s perspectives have been influenced by their experiences. Every so often a grand occurrence
influences one s life in an impactful way, while other times it is the little instances that influence your
life the most. I know that I have definitely been influenced by innumerable occurrences, but one
perspective stands out more than others. My perspective is unlike the majority of others. This is from
the perspective of a girl who has four loving parents. Some kids may find it difficult to deal with four
parents, but for me it is comforting. Having multiple parents, I receive more support with everything I
undertake. For example, it is not just my mother and father supporting my decision to attend Lenape
for Culinary but also my step mother and step father. So, as you can tell I acquire an abundance
amount of support. Although people may be under the impression that it would be more difficult to
receive permission when wanting to do something, in my instance, it is actually better to get more
perspectives. Growing up, my father told me no to a large amount of activities that I wanted to do.

George Bernard Shaw s Pygmalion Critique Values And...
Pygmalion Essay
Essay question: Plays make powerful comments about societal structures. How does Shaw s
Pygmalion critique values and attitudes prevalent in the early 1900 s?
George Bernard Shaw was an Irish immigrant in England, ostracised from society because of his
appearance and heritage rather than from judgement of his person, this kept him apart from most
social classes of the time. This feeling of not fitting in may have inspired Shaw to write the play
Pygmalion which premiered in 1914 to comment on the shallow nature of the people of this era and
satirise the class system. To do this Shaw introduced Eliza Doolittle, a class chameleon, to guide the
audience through the corrupt social hierarchy and give light to those who don t have a real place in the
structure, like himself and Eliza who are judged based on appearance and speech. Shaw confronted his
audience with his satirical reflection of reality; speech defines a persons class instead of what they
have to say and to appear beautiful is more important than to be kind. Emphasising these important
aspects in different ways in various characters gives an interesting view on how this class system
influenced the people in their context. Pygmalion is a both reflection of influence of class and the
values it promotes which Shaw skilfully uses to criticise inequality of all those within it.
Shaw critiques the shallow views of people from the 1900 s by completely disregarding their belief in
the correlation between

Demand Reflection
The most important thing I ve learned in this class so far has been analyzing supply and demand and
how different real life scenarios affect each of them. It seems like everything in this class so far has
boiled down to supply and demand graphs, so I am sure these curves are the most important concept
we have learned this far. More specifically, I ve finally learned beyond the basics of supply and
demand. Before this course, I could infer when supply and demand change, simply based on logic, but
now I can see and understand the more complex side of it. Now I know the difference between a shift
in the curves or a movement along the curves well enough so that I can answer questions about
situations quickly and accurately. I know that a change in quantity supplied and demanded is a
movement along the fixed curve while a change in supply or demand is a shift of the curve. With that,
I can access economic situations and see how outside factors affect the curves. Also, now that I know
those basics, I can focus on learning the more complex ideas that the curves show, such as elasticity,
equilibrium prices, surplus and shortages, price ceilings and floors, and the effects of taxes. I know
determinants of elasticity, how to calculate equilibrium prices, what constitutes as a shortage or a
surplus, and now I m discovering price ceilings, floors, and taxes.

Slip And Fall Lawyer Essay
When a person is injured in an accident that involves a slip and fall, they need legal representation.
Many don t know how to find a slip and fall attorney, however, or what to look for when doing so.
Following are some tips to help in this process and things to keep in mind when the time comes to
make a selection. Why An Attorney Is Essential Proving fault in a slip and fall case can be difficult.
Often, it isn t obvious who is to blame, and multiple parties may ultimately be held accountable. An
attorney understands how to establish liability and prove damages and can also easily identify who
may be responsible in a case of this type. The average person lacks these skills, thus legal help is
needed. Proving Liability The first step is the process is to show that the defendant or defendants were
negligent and this led to the injuries. Falls tend to happen quickly, leaving the injured party unaware of
exactly what happened. The lawyer works to determine this, using information from witnesses, any
evidence collected on the injured party s clothing or other items in the area and more. He or she also
determines what led to the accident, such as defective equipment, poor building construction and other
factors. Once the accident scene has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Don DeLillo s award winning novel White Noise takes the idea of the supremacy of false images to
the extreme. Through various scenarios, such as the airborne toxic event and the Dylar dilemma,
DeLillo critiques contemporary society s over dependence on false images. The characters in the novel
that exemplify this over dependence appear humorous on one hand, yet tragic on the other. The humor
comes from the novel s characters behaving like cartoon characters who continually get hurt, but keep

Jack, at the advice of the chancellor, had changed his name to J.A.K. Gladney by inventing an extra

Peking duck is a famous duck dish from Beijing that has been prepared since the imperial era. The
meat is prized for its thin, crisp skin, with authentic versions of the dish serving mostly the skin and
little meat, sliced in front of the diners by the cook. Ducks bred specially for the dish are slaughtered
after 65 days and seasoned before being roasted in a closed or hung oven. The meat is eaten with
scallion, cucumber and sweet bean sauce with pancakes rolled around the fillings. Sometimes pickled
radish is also inside, and other sauces (like hoisin sauce) can be used.
The cooked Peking Duck is traditionally carved in front of the diners and served in three stages. First,
the skin is served dipped in sugar and garlic sauce. The meat is then served with steamed pancakes
spring onions and sweet bean sauce. Several vegetable dishes are provided to accompany the meat,
typically cucumber sticks. The diners spread sauce, and optionally sugar, over the pancake. The
pancake is wrapped around the meat with the vegetables and eaten by hand. The remaining fat, meat
and bones may be made into a broth, served as is, or the meat chopped up and stir fried with sweet

Steven Dubner s Super Freakonomics
Freakonomics, in essence, is a book of completely unrelated topics relating to an underlying theme.
Topics in the book SuperFreakonomics include prostitution, terrorists, doctors with poor hygiene and
altruism in monkeys. The theme is the indication that everyone works for a reward. Steven D. Levitt
and Stephen J. Dubner are the authors of this novel. Levitt is a professor of economics at the
University of Chicago. Dubner is a former writer at the New York Times. Their goal is to explain the
fact that all of the problems in the world can be solved with economic concepts. They do so by
presenting a series of problems and attempting to find a root cause. By doing so they attempt to
present to the readers a way to look at the world through an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This manner is that there is in each chapter an interesting story, followed by an analysis of the problem
in said story, before concluding with an solution or discovery about the underlying aspects of the
problems. Throughout this there are dozens of seemingly unconnected anecdotes that manage to tie
themselves into the greater problem. For example, the first chapter, titled how is a street prostitute like
a department store santa? starts off with an interview with a prostitute. Despite saying that she dislikes
prostitution, she admits she would do a lot more if it payed twice as much. The chapter follows this up
with a history of prostitution in Chicago. It discusses how women were likely to become prostitutes
because it payed so much more. Then the chapter analyzes why it payed so much more by going into
the supply and demand of the field. Sex was in high demand. Prostitutes were in low supply. Therefore
it was a high paying job. Overtime, as the stigma increased and casual sex became the social norm,
demand lowered, and now the modern prostitute makes a fraction of what prostitutes made a hundred
years ago. After much more discussion on the topic, the book points towards a modern study about
prostitution that shows that even non prostitutes take up prostitution during certain times of the year
(the fourth of july namely). Then it finishes by tieing back to the original question of the chapter,
stating They both take advantage of short term job opportunities brought about by holiday spikes in
demand (Levitt, 43). Thus the structure of the book is

Luddism
David F. Noble draws valuable parallels between our era of burgeoning technology and the
technological advances of the industrial revolution.
Proponents of technology during both eras, says Noble, argued that technological advancement was an
essential, unstoppable force that would be inherently beneficial to humanity.
Noble s counter argument looks at the human costs of unchecked technological growth, along the way
re examining and redefining the meaning of Luddism.
Noble stands in defence of Luddism and moves accusations of irrationalism to the religion of
technology on which modern society is supposedly based. According to him, in the wake of five
decades of information revolution, people are now working longer hours, under ... Show more content

He argues that, while many processes were developed to improve metalworking after the war, the ones
that ultimately prevailed were not the ones which were most efficient. He demonstrates how several
alternate techniques actually had better results more quickly that the NC (Numeric Control) machining
which eventually came to dominate the industries, and in fact the NC machines were often slower for
a significant period of years.
So why was there so much investment in the less efficient machines? Simple: the owners paid the R D
costs, and the owners were more concerned about control that about pure efficiency or quality. NC
machines held the promise of being able(eventually) to manufacture high quality goods WITHOUT
SKILLED LABOR (precisely like the looms that the Luddites objected to). If you depend upon skilled
workers, those workers have some control, most obviously because they can t be easily replaced. If the
workers are minimally skilled, they can be more easily replaced, hence the owners have more control.
Is there anything in common between the age of automation now upon us and the first industrial
revolution long ago (circa 1790 1840)? Yes. Both surged ahead with technical progress and
production, and eliminated jobs without jobs for the workers. Both claimed that technological progress
was inevitable and would automatically put things right.

A Historical Fort Clinch . Throughout Florida’S Numerous
A Historical Fort Clinch Throughout Florida s numerous fortifications, Fort Clinch is established as a
military entity. Designed as a third system fortification, this base of operations was put into operating
status for multiple conflicts and wars, serving for more than the Fort s original intentions. Nestled on
Florida s northernmost barrier island Fort Clinch sits on the mouth of the St. Mary s river. Having a
series of freshwater ponds and acres of woodland, Fort Clinch is surrounded by wildlife and plant life.
Whitetail deer can be spotted throughout the state park along with alligators near the freshwater
ponds. On the other side of the fort is alluring beaches and waterways. This waterway is the reason for
Fort Clinch being in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Construction of Fort Clinch began in 1847. The fort took the shape of an irregular pentagon having
five tower bastions. Each bastion was made of masonry with chambers beneath, in order to store
munitions for the artillery that were placed on top of the bastion. The bastions are specifically placed
so no matter where an enemy combatant would approach at least two of the bastions could engage in
combat operations within their, ROF, range of fire. Multiple foot soldiers would also point their
attention towards the opposing front. The original design of the fort was to house 500 soldiers and 78
pieces of artillery. Officers of the Army Corps of Engineers directed a civilian workforce to construct
the fort. In 1860, progress was slow and only two thirds of the walls were completed, yet not a single
piece of artillery was in place. Rooms that were completed include the guard rooms, prison, lumber
sheds, and carpentry shops. Leaving the storehouse and kitchen unfinished, and with the brink of the
Civil War upon them, there is still not a single piece of artillery in place. In 1861, the Civil War is
underway. As Florida seceded from the Union, Confederate forces take control of Fort Clinch. Instead
of completing the buildup process of the fort, Confederate forces establish batteries in Fernandina,
Amelia, and Cumberland Island. The Federal s use

Essay on Ethics of Native American Mascots
3 December 2011
Ethics of Native American Mascots
Ethics of Native American mascots is a controversial topic and should not be argued against because
they are used ethically, complementary, and respectfully. The Native American Mascot controversy is
a topic that has presented itself in recent years all across the country. Though there have been some
issues, complaints, and moral questions brought up about the Native American mascot dilemma by a
minority group of people, there is no legitimate argument to why these mascots should be banned.
Ethically, there is nothing wrong with using Native American symbols as mascots. Native American
mascots are ethical. Ethics is defined as a system of moral principles and rules, the rules of ... Show

There is no legitimate argument for why an arrowhead on the side of a football helmet, a logo of a
Native American chief s head on the side of a school or even a tomahawk on a basketball jersey is
being reverted to as degrading, but the controversy still continues. Some names can be offensive such
as Redmen, Savages, etc. But if it is the name itself that offends, it needs to be argued that way and
not toward the Native American mascot as a symbol. Arguing a mascot as degrading when really it is
meant the name is disrespectful in itself because a mascot is a symbol of a team, not the name; it is
also the strength and core of a team. Mascots are purposely portrayed as being ethical,
complementary, and respectful, in fact tribal names find their way onto all kinds of consumer
products, such as the Jeep Cherokee and the Dodge Dakota. For the same reason, Indian images
appear on U.S. currency, such as the old Indian head nickel and the new Sacajawea dollar. The Army
even names its helicopters after tribes: the Apache Longbow, the Kiowa Warrior, the Comanche, and
the Blackhawk. If we were to let the minority side of this argument change Native American mascots,
then a number of cities (e.g., Chicago, Miami, and Milwaukee), plus about half the states, would have
to be renamed (Miller 2001). Mascots are symbols, symbols of spirit, and symbols of strength. Native

  • 2. Essay about Carl Gustav Jung Carl Gustav Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and founder of the school of analytical psychology. He proposed and developed the concepts of the extroverted and introverted personality, archetypes, and the collective unconscious. The issues that he dealt with arose from his personal experiences. For many years Jung felt as if he had two separate personalities. One introverted while the other was extroverted. This interplay results in his study of integration and wholeness. His work has been influential not only in psychology, but in religion and literature as well. Jung was born on July 26, 1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland, the only son of a Protestant clergyman. In order to distinguish between individual psychology and psychoanalysis Jung gave his discipline the name quot;analytical psychology. quot; After a break with the start of WWI, Jung wrote the book quot;Psychological Types quot;. It set the differences between his position and that of Freud. Jung became more interested in the study of mythological and religious symbolism. His studies took him across the globe observing many different cultures. He was interested in tracing the analogies between the contents of the unconscious in Western man and the myths, cults, and rituals of primitive peoples. Jungian therapy deals with dreams and fantasies. A discussion is set up between the conscious and the contents of the unconscious. When the therapy works the patient enters an individuation process. This consists of psychological transformations ending in the opposite tendencies working together to achieve personal wholeness. Jung s total amount of work is very large. It is estimated at 200 papers. An edition of his Collected Works in English was completed in 1972 by the Bollingen Foundation

I was told throughout high school to take every opportunity at extra credit that I could get. Now, it is a habit that is instilled in me. Little did I know I would get more out of Convocation than I ever believed possible. Convocation started with some formalities such as the Moment of Silence and the National Anthem. To be completely honest with you, I did not know what was going to happen next. Was this going to be beneficial? Or was I going to sit through something completely bored? • 6. The Process Of Deduction Logic In social research, traditional and non traditional methods are used to explore and examine research queries and relate methods of data collection and observation. One conventionally accepted method is through deductive logic. Deductive logic is research that begins with a theory and arrives at a specific expectation through a series of scientific steps. Both explanatory and exploratory techniques can be used in deductive. In contrast, inductive methods, in which researchers examine specific data sets and detect general patterns, are considered non traditional. In inductive logic, the identification of empirical patterns result in a generalization about some social process (Schutt, 2012, p. 45). The process of deduction logic begins with statements, also known as premises , that are assumed to be true. A determination is made regarding additional factors that must be true if the premises are true. A special logical structure, known as modus ponens, is a rule asserting that a hypothetical proposition according to which if the antecedent be affirmed, the consequent is affirmed (Merriam Webster, 2015). The form of any argument having the structure of modus ponens is as follows: Given P, if P then Q, so, Q. Using this structure, any argument is stated as the major premise, the minor premise, and the conclusion. In this way, the statements are evaluated in terms of validity and soundness. Eventually, as strength is regained from tough obstacles, the desire to obtain their dreams escalates even further, which aids in working harder and striving to reach their goals. Barbara Ehrenreich, the author of Nickel and Dimed, depicts the financial struggles of single mothers who raise their families through minimum wage jobs after the welfare reform affected their lifestyles. In the novel, Ehrenreich tests the limits of living in poverty by accepting any scarce job that was offered, and provides insight that although it was exhausting to balance her needs and her hectic work schedule, by diligently laboring, constantly persisting in seeking the better, and voicing out the wrongs, it can eventually lead to the attainment of the American Dream. Through the struggles of stabilizing two jobs at once while searching for a temporary home, Ehrenreich displayed the frustration of sticking to her three guidelines in her experiment: she cannot go hungry, be homeless, or ignore the skills she learned through her education and past work experiences. The Truth About Marie Antoinette Sombillo 1 Alysia Sombillo World History Mrs. Ray World History Research Paper Draft 3 3 16 The Truth about Marie Antoinette Marie Antoinette was born on November 2, 1755, in Vienna, Austria. Marie Antoinette was a queen that ruled with a powerful, wealthy, fist. She was a foreign wife and queen once she married King Louis XVI of France. Throughout her rule over France, Marie Antoinette was kept under a light of ignorance by the people, and therefore, should not be blamed for their suffering, the French Revolution, and the failures of her husband. She was hated by the people of France the moment she became queen, which ultimately led her to her downfall. Queen Marie Antoinette is known for her infamous quote let them eat cake , in a scandal where she supposedly turned a blind eye to the famished. The people of France pointed their fingers at Marie Antoinette, and believed she frankly participated in the scandal they accused her of: the scandal that led to her death by guillotine: the Affair of the Diamond Necklace. Marie Antoinette was also blamed for The French Revolution and the suffering of the poor people, but the citizens of France were already poor long before she became queen. • 18. Cooperation And Altruism Is What Largely Divides Humans... Cooperation and altruism is what largely divides humans from other animals. While some primate and certain other species do seem to show some precursors to these types of behaviors, none come close to the ability of humans to help each other. Much of this has to do with our ability to act unselfishly despite the fact that in the short term being selfish would be more beneficial. Some groups take this to the extreme like the Hutterites who live in a society where everyone works to serve others. In his book The Origins of Virtue Matt Ridley claims that we are all Hutterites at heart (38). However, this does not actually seem to be true the majority of the time. In fact, more often and not, we act selfishly if we can get away with it without any repercussions. One of the strongest bits of evidence against this statement comes from experiments in children that show that very young children are more likely to act selfishly instead of altruistically. Additionally, game theory studies have shown that people are overall more selfish when they are anonymous compared to when their actions and decisions are being watched. This would seem to indicate Hutterite s beliefs are not so central to our lives. At the same time, these studies also show that people are not as selfish as would be expected if they were only looking out for their benefit. And there are plenty of instances where a person goes out of their way to help a complete stranger. Overall, I think Ridley s claim is mostly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this day and age, our country is becoming more and more globalized, and relies on other countries services and goods. I always find it interesting what other countries are doing in terms of business and maybe industries in America can learn from what they have implemented. Starting of reading this article, I was completely lost and wanted to quit. Vertical integration seemed too big of a concept to wrap my head around and the article had so many stats and figures I was going crazy. After dissecting the article parts by part and figuring out what vertical integration meant, the research started to make sense. To start off what the research talks about lets define vertical integrated. According to Adelman, it states that a firm is vertically integrated whenever it transmits from one of its departments to another good or service which could, without major adaptation, be sold in the market. . Ultimately a company is vertically integrated when firms integrates activities in the value chain to produce its own inputs and/or takes care of its own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The New York Times went so far as to say that this specific title sequence was one of the most important design innovations of the 1990s. Influenced by the works of Pablo Ferro, Saul Bass, Stephen Frankfurt and Maurice Binder, Cooper s style and designs changed the way in which title sequences for movies, series and video games are done nowadays, by evoking a revival in the importance of a meaningful and well designed title; something that had been gradually lost in the previous decades. • 33. A Literature Review Of Citizen Science A Literature Review of Citizen Science Rich Leopold 11/12/2014 Citizen science is the collaboration of the scientific community directing volunteers in data collection efforts. In a citizen science program the scientist maintains a leadership position and directs all actions according to the scientific need. Citizen science relies on the individual s, or groups, motivation to perform the required tasks. Citizen science programs are generally focused around data gathering. The volunteers must be trained in sound scientific practices in order to ensure the highest quality data possible. These programs allow for the scientific community to harvest larger quantities of data and allow the volunteers to become active members in the scientific community. Citizen science is not a new concept. There have been historic instances of large groups of volunteers participating in scientific data collection, such as the National Audubon Society annual Christmas bird count in 1900 (Bonney, Cooper, Dickinson, Kelling, Phillips, Rosenberg, Shirk, 2009, p. 977). The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has a citizen science program, which has been in operation since 1966. Each year over 200,000 citizen scientists contribute to ongoing research each year. How does Shaw s Pygmalion critique values and attitudes prevalent in the early 1900 s? George Bernard Shaw was an Irish immigrant in England, ostracised from society because of his appearance and heritage rather than from judgement of his person, this kept him apart from most social classes of the time. This feeling of not fitting in may have inspired Shaw to write the play Pygmalion which premiered in 1914 to comment on the shallow nature of the people of this era and satirise the class system. To do this Shaw introduced Eliza Doolittle, a class chameleon, to guide the audience through the corrupt social hierarchy and give light to those who don t have a real place in the structure, like himself and Eliza who are judged based on appearance and speech. Shaw confronted his audience with his satirical reflection of reality; speech defines a persons class instead of what they have to say and to appear beautiful is more important than to be kind. Emphasising these important aspects in different ways in various characters gives an interesting view on how this class system influenced the people in their context. Pygmalion is a both reflection of influence of class and the values it promotes which Shaw skilfully uses to criticise inequality of all those within it. It seems like everything in this class so far has boiled down to supply and demand graphs, so I am sure these curves are the most important concept we have learned this far. More specifically, I ve finally learned beyond the basics of supply and demand. Before this course, I could infer when supply and demand change, simply based on logic, but now I can see and understand the more complex side of it. Now I know the difference between a shift in the curves or a movement along the curves well enough so that I can answer questions about situations quickly and accurately. I know that a change in quantity supplied and demanded is a movement along the fixed curve while a change in supply or demand is a shift of the curve. With that, I can access economic situations and see how outside factors affect the curves. Also, now that I know those basics, I can focus on learning the more complex ideas that the curves show, such as elasticity, equilibrium prices, surplus and shortages, price ceilings and floors, and the effects of taxes. I know determinants of elasticity, how to calculate equilibrium prices, what constitutes as a shortage or a surplus, and now I m discovering price ceilings, floors, and taxes. This manner is that there is in each chapter an interesting story, followed by an analysis of the problem in said story, before concluding with an solution or discovery about the underlying aspects of the problems. Throughout this there are dozens of seemingly unconnected anecdotes that manage to tie themselves into the greater problem. For example, the first chapter, titled how is a street prostitute like a department store santa? starts off with an interview with a prostitute. Despite saying that she dislikes prostitution, she admits she would do a lot more if it payed twice as much. The chapter follows this up with a history of prostitution in Chicago. It discusses how women were likely to become prostitutes because it payed so much more. Then the chapter analyzes why it payed so much more by going into the supply and demand of the field. Sex was in high demand. Prostitutes were in low supply. Therefore it was a high paying job. Overtime, as the stigma increased and casual sex became the social norm, demand lowered, and now the modern prostitute makes a fraction of what prostitutes made a hundred years ago. After much more discussion on the topic, the book points towards a modern study about prostitution that shows that even non prostitutes take up prostitution during certain times of the year (the fourth of july namely). Then it finishes by tieing back to the original question of the chapter, stating They both take advantage of short term job opportunities brought about by holiday spikes in demand (Levitt, 43). Thus the structure of the book is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Luddism David F. Noble draws valuable parallels between our era of burgeoning technology and the technological advances of the industrial revolution. Proponents of technology during both eras, says Noble, argued that technological advancement was an essential, unstoppable force that would be inherently beneficial to humanity. Noble s counter argument looks at the human costs of unchecked technological growth, along the way re examining and redefining the meaning of Luddism. Noble stands in defence of Luddism and moves accusations of irrationalism to the religion of technology on which modern society is supposedly based. According to him, in the wake of five decades of information revolution, people are now working longer hours, under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He argues that, while many processes were developed to improve metalworking after the war, the ones that ultimately prevailed were not the ones which were most efficient. He demonstrates how several alternate techniques actually had better results more quickly that the NC (Numeric Control) machining which eventually came to dominate the industries, and in fact the NC machines were often slower for a significant period of years. So why was there so much investment in the less efficient machines? Simple: the owners paid the R D costs, and the owners were more concerned about control that about pure efficiency or quality. NC machines held the promise of being able(eventually) to manufacture high quality goods WITHOUT SKILLED LABOR (precisely like the looms that the Luddites objected to). If you depend upon skilled workers, those workers have some control, most obviously because they can t be easily replaced. If the workers are minimally skilled, they can be more easily replaced, hence the owners have more control. Is there anything in common between the age of automation now upon us and the first industrial revolution long ago (circa 1790 1840)? Yes. Both surged ahead with technical progress and production, and eliminated jobs without jobs for the workers. Both claimed that technological progress was inevitable and would automatically put things right. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. A Historical Fort Clinch . Throughout Florida’S Numerous A Historical Fort Clinch Throughout Florida s numerous fortifications, Fort Clinch is established as a military entity. Designed as a third system fortification, this base of operations was put into operating status for multiple conflicts and wars, serving for more than the Fort s original intentions. Nestled on Florida s northernmost barrier island Fort Clinch sits on the mouth of the St. Mary s river. Having a series of freshwater ponds and acres of woodland, Fort Clinch is surrounded by wildlife and plant life. Whitetail deer can be spotted throughout the state park along with alligators near the freshwater ponds. On the other side of the fort is alluring beaches and waterways. This waterway is the reason for Fort Clinch being in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Construction of Fort Clinch began in 1847. The fort took the shape of an irregular pentagon having five tower bastions. Each bastion was made of masonry with chambers beneath, in order to store munitions for the artillery that were placed on top of the bastion. The bastions are specifically placed so no matter where an enemy combatant would approach at least two of the bastions could engage in combat operations within their, ROF, range of fire. Multiple foot soldiers would also point their attention towards the opposing front. The original design of the fort was to house 500 soldiers and 78 pieces of artillery. Officers of the Army Corps of Engineers directed a civilian workforce to construct the fort. In 1860, progress was slow and only two thirds of the walls were completed, yet not a single piece of artillery was in place. Rooms that were completed include the guard rooms, prison, lumber sheds, and carpentry shops. Leaving the storehouse and kitchen unfinished, and with the brink of the Civil War upon them, there is still not a single piece of artillery in place. In 1861, the Civil War is underway. As Florida seceded from the Union, Confederate forces take control of Fort Clinch. Instead of completing the buildup process of the fort, Confederate forces establish batteries in Fernandina, Amelia, and Cumberland Island. The Federal s use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Essay on Ethics of Native American Mascots 3 December 2011 Ethics of Native American Mascots Ethics of Native American mascots is a controversial topic and should not be argued against because they are used ethically, complementary, and respectfully. The Native American Mascot controversy is a topic that has presented itself in recent years all across the country. Though there have been some issues, complaints, and moral questions brought up about the Native American mascot dilemma by a minority group of people, there is no legitimate argument to why these mascots should be banned. Ethically, there is nothing wrong with using Native American symbols as mascots. Native American mascots are ethical. Ethics is defined as a system of moral principles and rules, the rules of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no legitimate argument for why an arrowhead on the side of a football helmet, a logo of a Native American chief s head on the side of a school or even a tomahawk on a basketball jersey is being reverted to as degrading, but the controversy still continues. Some names can be offensive such as Redmen, Savages, etc. But if it is the name itself that offends, it needs to be argued that way and not toward the Native American mascot as a symbol. Arguing a mascot as degrading when really it is meant the name is disrespectful in itself because a mascot is a symbol of a team, not the name; it is also the strength and core of a team. Mascots are purposely portrayed as being ethical, complementary, and respectful, in fact tribal names find their way onto all kinds of consumer products, such as the Jeep Cherokee and the Dodge Dakota. For the same reason, Indian images appear on U.S. currency, such as the old Indian head nickel and the new Sacajawea dollar. The Army even names its helicopters after tribes: the Apache Longbow, the Kiowa Warrior, the Comanche, and the Blackhawk. If we were to let the minority side of this argument change Native American mascots, then a number of cities (e.g., Chicago, Miami, and Milwaukee), plus about half the states, would have to be renamed (Miller 2001). Mascots are symbols, symbols of spirit, and symbols of strength. Native American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
