Slime Lab Lesson Report
Part A The Slime Lab lesson from Lesson Plans, Inc. (2014) exemplifies the danger in downloading a
lesson plan from the internet without first comparing the appropriateness to meet national or state
educational standards. While the students find the exercise fun concocting a gooey mixture and testing
their recipe for stretchiness, the lesson plan does not meet the standards. The lab shows weak
alignment to national or local standards and pedagogical strength.
National standard alignment National Science Educations Standards A through F from the National

The Life of Spanish Baroque Painter Martolome Esteban Murillo
On January 1st, 1618, Bartolome Esteban Murillo was born in Seville Spain. Murillo was the most
famous Spanish Baroque painter of his time, known for his religious works.
Murillo was the youngest of fourteen children, born to Gaspar Esteban, a barber, and María Perez .
Murillo gained his surname from a traditional Andalusian custom, taking the name of his grandmother,
Elvira Murillo. In 1627, Murillo s father passed away, and his mother died a year later. Murillo was an
orphan at ten years old, and was sent to live with his older sister and her husband.
Murillo was exposed to the art world from a young age. His uncle was a painter, who married the
daughter of another successful artist. All the daughters of this couple went on to marry ... Show more

Even despite this, the 1660 s were the busiest in Murillo s entire career. His portraits from this time are
some of his best,.
In 1680, Murillo was commissioned to paint the main altarpiece for the Capuchins church in Cádiz.
This was an incredible honor. While working up on a scaffold, Murillo fell and died soon after.
During his lifetime, Murillo left an incredible art legacy. His style has similarities from his teacher,
and Zurbarán, the most popular painter in Seville before himself. In his early years, Murillo painted in
the style known as Chiaroscuro. Chiaroscuro is a style with strong contrast between light and dark.
Murillo used a lot of lighting techniques he learned from Zurbaran, but Murillo s works were lighter
and softer than Zurbaran. Overtime, Murillo stopped painting in Chiaroscuro, and his style evolved to
be lighter and more like the style of Federico Barocci. His trip to Madrid further changed his style,
encouraging him to use thick brushstrokes, warm tones, highlights, and richer color. In Murillo s late
life, his style changed again. Murillo used looser brush strokes, and sober colors. It is said that his
work during this time in his life was vaporous and more refined.
One of his more famous paintings is called The Young Beggar and is on display at the Musée du
Louvre, in Paris, France. This painting shows a sad beggar boy sitting alone on a street

The Issue Of Mainstream Media Bias Essay
The world is not responding to events in this country, but rather to the description of these events by
news organizations. The key to understanding the strange nature of the response is thus to be found in
the practice of journalism.... (Friedman, 2014) This article considers the concepts in arguing that
mainstream media bias exists. Exists and presents, in message and content, an essentially biased
product, in direct opposition of their industry standards declaration of impartiality and neutrality. In an
effort to establish meaning and prepare the reader this article applies the definition of bias as applied
by Grosclose and Milyo, whose paper A Measure of Media Bias which was published in the Quarterly
Journal of Economics in November of 2005 and is still relevant today; Before proceeding, it is useful
to clarify our definition of bias. Most important, the definition has nothing to do with the honesty or
accuracy of the news outlet. Instead, our notion is more like a taste or preference (Groseclose Milyo,
2005). In the context of a quantitative content analysis of media bias, its delivery, its targeted audience
and ultimate evaluation will determine the taste and establish preference . Through the intentional and
un intentional portrayal of an established or implied bias the target audience s opinions, ideals and
motivations are necessarily affected. Specifically, the term media in the context of this article refers to
journalistic news sources that are

Lewis Personality In The Chronicles Of Narnia
Lewis personality is personified in The Chronicles of Narnia, and specifically in The Voyage of the
Dawn Treader through the children. The children Lucy, Edmund, Caspian, and Eustace are searching
for the seven missing lords exiled by King Caspian s odorous Uncle Miraz. Additionally, they are
searching for the far east or Aslan s country. But more pointedly Edmund and Lucy are continually
searching for Aslan. In the novels, Aslan is a huge lion that appears from time to time offering
assistance, judgement, and wisdom to the children as they journey through Narnia. The children are
constantly searching for Aslan (Christ) just as Lewis was searching for the truth of Christianity and to
come back to the father. By reading the books with a Christian ... Show more content on

Lewis was struggling with leading a life that was devoted to Christ and he presented this struggle and
eventual surrender to the Lord through his work. Lewis had to learn that God would also be with him
and pursue even when he was sinning and running from the Lord. This continual chase and presence is
mirrored through Aslan. Aslan is always with the children throughout the entirety of the novel, They
see Aslan at a distance moving across the horizon or a living image of him on the page of a book; he
answers Lucy s prayer by providing help to escape from the terrors of the Dark Island; and he talks to
Caspian, Lucy, and Edmund. He empowers, encourages, restrains, and guards the children, filling
more of a spiritual than a physical role (Schakel, Hidden Images of Christ in the Fiction of C.S.
Lewis). Dreaming up a fantasy world full of talking animals was not a last minute invention for Lewis
Walter Hooper, his editor, tells us. When asked about how he came to the idea for the series he states,
All my seven Narnia books, and my three science fiction books, began with seeing pictures in my
head. At first they were not a story, just pictures. The Lion all began with a picture of a Faun carrying
an umbrella and parcels in a snowy wood. This picture had been in my mind since I was about sixteen.
Then one day, when I was about forty, I said to myself: Let s try to make a story about it (Hooper 12).

Adler s Ethos In How To Mark A Book
When I read a book or a paper, I read it and sometimes make a few mental notes. What do you do? Do
you mark and write things down? In Mortimer J. Adler s paper, How to Mark a Book, he argues the
best way to get the most out of reading is to mark the book or paper, leaving ones thoughts on the
pages. Some say this slows them down, or leaves behind a messy, ruined book, but Adler claims
reading slower and writing thoughts down allows the reader and author to have a conversation that
will enhance the readers understanding of the text. Through his paper, Adler attempts to use the
rhetorical triangle of ethos, pathos, and logos to connect the audience to his paper and to convince
them the best way to understand a text is through marking it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Ethos Out of the three, ethos, pathos, and logos, Mortimer J. Adler uses ethos, or the ethical character
and credibility of the speaker, most effectively, in order to convince his audience that he has a right to
be explaining the usefulness of marking a book while reading it. In the very beginning, there is an
introduction about Adler which states things such as, He founded and fathered the Great Books
Program, edited the Encyclopedia Britannica, and wrote dozens of books on educational, intellectual,
and philosophical topics (Adler, n.d./2012, p.1). He also earned his PhD from Columbia University
after dropping out of high school, demonstrating his dedication to learning. This sets the stage for the
reader to feel that the author is a credible source for writing on this subject. As the article continues,
Adler retains his credibility by mentioning other point of views. He says, You may say that this
business of marking books is going to slow up your reading (Adler, n.d./2012, p.4). Although he does
mention these other points of view, he refutes them quickly. For example, the next two sentences say,
It probably will. That s one of the reasons for doing it (Adler, n.d./2012, p.4). He refutes the other
viewpoints in order to help the reader feel more confident that his way is the best way. He does so in a

a wide range. Using XSS an attacker can do the following things: 1) Hack User Accounts 2) Hack
Admin Accounts 3) Identity theft. Also, it is very difficult to track the origin of attack and to know that

the website occasionally checks for some miscellaneous code in their database. There are some
suggested ways to stop an XSS attack, below are some of them. Don t allow HTML tags: To make the

Latin American Culture Essay
Jared Wong Professor Figueredo SPAN 2200 Commercial Culture: How the Hip Hop Industry
Influenced Latin American Hip Hop As the music industry has become commercialized on an
international level, people have argued that music culture has become somewhat homogeneous
worldwide. America is often seen as the center of this commercial expansion; this can be seen in the
case of music, as American artists have recently been achieving mainstream success with international
audiences. Artists from the US are now able to tour internationally, and are well received across the
world. This paper analyzes the effects of this commercialization in Latin America, specifically in the
context of hip hop. Latin America has traditionally had its own unique musical style, but as a region it
has not been immune to the influence and spread of commercialized hip hop. The extent to which this
movement has influenced Latin America is not always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Santa Monica Mountains Essay
The range mapped in the Santa Monica Mountains is limited on the south by Hollywood, on the north
by the San Fernando Valley, on the west by Cahuenga Pass and Dark Canyon, and on the east by the
Los Angeles River. Griffith Park is incorporated inside the eastern portion of the region.
The vital topographic component of the territory is an east westridge. Cahuenga Peak (height 1821

of the focal part of the edge. The edge is in accordance with the peak of the Santa Monica Mountains,
however they are separatedby Cahuenga Pass, a low transverse seat. The range is deviated, with the
more extreme slant on the north side.
The key finish of this review is that the territory east of Cahuenga Pass is a grating basic and
stratigraphic component in the Santa Monica Mountains. The storm cellar rocks and the storm cellar

California Psychological Inventory Essay
The California Psychological Inventory (CPI) is a sophisticated assessment developed to not only
measure personality but also to predict how people will react in different situation. It is a more indepth
version of MBTI. The purpose of this test is to provide a portrait of both personal and work related
characteristics. It is a self report inventory, and a personality assessment. It is empirically derived by
test taker s drives, motivations, interpersonal style, and ways of leading. CPI used common factors
that are easier to be understood by test takers to measure their interpersonal skills, self management
skills, motivation and thinking styles, and personal characteristics. Your CPI report is divided into four
parts, however, we will only discuss the first, second and the last part of the result in the report. First.
The first part of the CPI report explains the reliability of the protocol. The purpose of this component
is to assure you that there is no evidence of invalidity from your CPI report because you did not input
too many responses that are atypical or random. This also show that you did not overly favorite a self
portrait or unduly criticize your self representation. Second. The second part of the CPI report
provides you a classification for type and a classification for level along with the corresponding
scores. CPI report uses T score to make sense your scores which means that CPI compares your score

Analysis Of Redemption At Hacksaw Ridge
Undeniably, the book Redemption at Hacksaw Ridge by Booton Herndon is an interesting yet
enlightening read which follows Desmond Doss heroic actions during World War 2. This book is a
biography of Desmond Doss who always wished to become a medic, but never received much
education as a child. When Doss was one step closer to his dream, he was outcasted and tolerated
torture from other soldiers who refused to accept that he is a conscientious objector. The setting of this
book first takes place in Virginia, where Doss was born, but the majority of the book takes place at a
steep, jagged cliff called the Hacksaw Ridge. The main character of this book is Desmond Doss. He
was born in Virginia, and grew up with a drunk and abusive father. He always dreamed of becoming a
medic, but never had much schooling. Doss became even more determined to become one when he
went to the hospital and met the love of his life, Dorothy. Doss would always ask Dorothy medical
questions on dates, and so she gave him a book, in which he studied from. He saw many friends and
other men from his town being sent off to war, and he wanted to join them too. Doss convinced his
father, who is a veteran, to let him join war, but when he tries to change Doss mind, he was
unsuccessful. No one could change Doss will including Dorothy, and he eventually prepares to join
war. When he joins war he has to go through various training programs, but fails the rifle test, as he

Why Is Hector Unpredictable Louis Sachar
Hector (Zero) Hector Zeroni is unpredictable at the start, the middle, and the end of the story. In Louis
Sachar s adventure fiction Holes Hector Zeroni is the most unpredictable person in the story. The first
reason why we think Hector is unpredictable is because he never spoke to anyone except for Stanley.
The second reason Hector is unpredictable is because lot of the people were surprised whenever
Hector did something a little different than how he acts. The third reason Hector was unpredictable is
because no one paid too much attention (except for Stanley) might have caused him to do things that
he normally wouldn t do. The First reason why we think Hector is unpredictable is because, he does

Manet And The Object Of Painting By Michel Foucault
Edouard Manet, an artist most commonly known in relation to the advent of modernist art, is credited
with introducing such painterly techniques as producing flatness in painting, and, a layering down of
hues (alla prima). He is regarded as the father of modernité, having many written works have been
produced as supplements, responses or studies of his paintings and influences in art three of which I
present as subjects of scrutiny in this paper: the Painter of Modern Life by French poet and essayist
Charles Baudelaire, who produced several essays in relation to the phenomenon of modernity (as both
modulator and interpreter) Manet and the Object of Painting by Michel Foucault, a French philosopher
and critic, and Modernist Painting by Clement Greenberg, a mid 20th century art critic. In each of

They differ in terms of length, structure, style and method of evocation. Baudelaire resorts to sub
heading sectioning, dividing his thoughts under twelve primary pillars, starting with I. Beauty, Fashion
and Happiness. Using such large, overbearing words and then breaking them down into observational,
almost ethnographical paragraphs where he describes behaviors, views and examples in relation to his
larger claims. In Foucault s Manet and the Object of Painting, the structural form differs, as the text
was originally a 1971 lecture given in Tunisia alongside a series of other lectures he delivered in
Milan, Tokyo, and Florence. Thus, what we find is a slightly tweaked, translated transcription of the
talk. Greenberg s Modernist Painting, however slightly shorter than the two texts, reads clearly and is
structured starting from a broad articulation of modernism that is then rationed into specific claims or
takes, enveloped in critical reflections upon artistic practice as well as philosophy of the phenomenon

Lying In The Truth For The Liar

The Truth for the Liar Although lying is sometimes used as an easy way out of trouble or a quick save
from having to admit something you don t want to , lying and hiding things can actually ruin
relationships by leaving the receiver of the lie questioning why was it necessary to lie. In relationships
of all types, there is a mutual trust that is set between the two persons , that trust started off weak but
then over time developed into a wonderful relationship. A relationship needs to have trust in order to

Lying is still a part of history that repeats itself , we have not learned yet that our government should
be honest and truthful with the entire population. Reflecting back on the 2 years since Donald Trump

time there has been speculation regarding the validity of the things that Trump says. Trump has come
in contact with many significant problems that have played major roles in degrading his respect as a
president , whether that might be the trouble with stormy daniels , putin and the sexual accusations by
women who he had met. Trump really lowers his respect when he also makes racist remarks towards
many minorities in the United States which has also led him to be seen as the more unfavorable

Since Mr. and Mrs. Green intend on having joint custody of the children, it looks as if all aspects of
rearing the children, including expenses as well as decision making would be shared among the
parents. Although it is shared , that does not signify that it will be equally shared. The court will
determine, based on the formula contained in the Kentucky Child Support Guidelines, what each
parent pays. Furthermore, since Mrs. Green is without income as a homemaker, it seems as though
some sort of child support payment should be paid in regards to the children while they are residing in
her home. Also, if Mr. Green takes a job, earning less income due to health problems, this may affect
the amount of child support he would be obligated to pay, but it shouldn t keep him from being
required to pay some sort of child support. This job change can cause the court to deviate from the
guidelines. However, the court may look at Mrs. Green s unemployment as being voluntary. Thus, the
court may not use that issue in determining the child support Mr. Green should be obligated to pay.
The court will probably not order Mrs. Green to obtain employment, but in looking at the facts, there

Complications Of The French Revolution
The French Revolution (1789 1799) had significant, far reaching implications. In Britain it permeated
every level of society. Not only did politicians change their allegiances, but moderate reformers were
radicalised, and British society was completely divided into supporters and detractors of the
Revolution. It also resulted in a drastic politicisation of Ireland, changing the nature of politics
completely. The British government was threatened by the French Revolution because they saw what
was happening in France and saw the beginnings of the process in their own country. The prospect of
a revolution of that scale in Britain was unthinkable and something had to be done.

monstrous doctrine . This new Tory government that had been established was much less tolerant of
reformers in a time where radical reformers were far more common and were feeding off the energy of
the French Revolution.
In the 1770s, a movement for parliamentary reform began in Britain under the leadership of middle
class men such as John Cartwright and Christopher Wyvill. When the Revolution in France began in
1789 this movement began to grow rapidly, and an atmosphere of revolutionary fervour spread across
Britain, inspiring reformers. In many ways the French Revolution acted as a template of reform to
radicals and reformers across Britain and Europe. When the propaganda of the French Revolution
began to reach the masses of Britain in 1792 the situation worsened for the British government as
interest in radical societies spiked. At times during the 1790s, there were incidents of rebellion that
were of a similar degree of

Personal Values Beliefs And Values
Personal values, beliefs, and principles are necessary for individuals to know about themselves.
However, when asked the question, what are your personal values, beliefs, and principles the first
responses are often a laundry list of characteristics with the assumption that the three words are
synonymous. From my experience, when asked this question the list grew longer and I started to
wonder what the differences existed between each of these terms. Recognizing these differences is a
major component of discovering how I make decisions when facing ethical dilemmas involving
directives that may be morally unsound. Hence, I began the search of how the terms relate, their
meaning and what my answer is to this question. Since I invested time to find the differences in
principles, beliefs and values my long list became more defined. So, the essay will encompass the
definitions of the terms, explain two elements for each category, how they relate to one another and
how the knowledge influences tough decisions. Values
What are values and what makes these different from principles and beliefs? Various references agree
that values are the motivations and behaviors used to determine priorities of what one sees as
important in life and work (MindTools.com, 2017; Atkins, 2017; Value, n.d.). The definition applied
my list of characteristics illustrated how I desire to represent myself and what I value most. First, I
value commitment to my principles, which my faith as a Christian

Foreshadowing In Marge Piercy s A Work Of Artifice
Looking at the title of Marge Piercy s A Work of Artifice, readers can break it down and sense the
foreshadowing. In the Oxford dictionary, artifice is defined as clever or cunning devices or expedients,
use to trick or deceive others. This foreshadows the deception that the writer exposes in the poem.
Piercy describes a global dilemma the the use of metaphor (a bonsai tree). A bonsai tree is an
ornamental tree or shrub grown in a pot and artificially prevented from reaching its normal size. Given
the opportunity, this tree could grow to enormous heights. Yet, it is trimmed by gardeners . This
metaphor of the tree compared to women s suppression and the gardener as the suppressor. Women
have been bound to domestic duties and Marge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Readers are introduced to a bonsai tree in the attractive pot in the first two lines. Here metaphor is
established. The bonsai tree is being compared to the average woman. Like a bonsai tree, the average
woman can become a distinguished figure and meet her full potential. For fear that the tree were to
grow out of its pot, it may be alienated, it remains confined to its pot. A woman may feel inclined to
stick to societal expectations for fear of being detached from others. Consequently, inside the pot, no
woman or bonsai tree can grow to their fullest potential. Metaphorical use is also shown as Piercey
compares the gardener to society. Continuously, society tries to mold women into being domestic and
weak. The gardener is shown doing this as he carefully prunes and whittles back the branches. He is
only declining the progression of the bonsai tree as he creates his own vision for it. In the attempt to
be attractive, the potential of the tree is taken and it continues to watch their branches be pruned and
whittled away. Like this tree, women face the struggle to succeed in life while having societal
inequities pinned on their

Daphne, A Naiad-Nymph Of The River Peneus
Daphne was a Naiad Nymph of the river Peneus in Thessalia and the daughter of the river god Peneus.
Nymphs were female spirits of the natural world and crafters of nature s beauty, from the growing of
the trees and flowers to the formation of wetlands, brooks, grottos, and springs. (Atsma) Her father,
the river god Peneus, was tried several times because Daphne would not accept any of the handsome,
eligible young men who wanted her. Her father would scold her by saying, Am I never going to have a
grandson? which Daphne would answer with Father, dearest, let me be like Diana. . (Hamilton 119)
Her father would surrender from these conversations and let her off into the woods, which she had the
freedom to do what she desired. Daphne became like Diana, also known as Artemis, by living as a
perpetual virgin and a wild huntress. Daphne is said to have been Apollo s first love, but it turned out
to be a one sided love.
One day, Eros, the god of love, was taunted by Apollo, the god of prophecy, when he told Eros to
leave bows and arrows to those who were more capable of using them after he defeated Python.
(L.Roman and M.Roman 130) Eros wanted revenge and decided to shoot Apollo and Daphne with
arrows that had opposite reactions. Apollo was struck with a gold tipped arrow that made him fall in
love with whoever he set his eyes on while Daphne was hit by a lead tipped arrow that made her
become even more uninterested in any man she had ever seen. (Cotterell 32) When Apollo saw

Summary Of Alumnus Welcome By Shounak Bagchi
In Alumnus Welcomes... Shounak Bagchi, a UC Berkeley alumni addresses the UC Berkeley
freshman Class of 2017 and gives them advice on how to succeed throughout their college years. He
makes them appreciate the handwork they completed to get accepted into the school, but also how to
make the best out of their time while attending UC Berkeley. Alumnus Welcomes... is rhetorically
persuasive because Bagchi was an alumni of the school that he wrote to which gives him credibility,
he used humor to grab the reader s attention and he stated facts about the school, which attracts the
audience s sense of logic. The author was inspired to write this essay because he experienced college
the same way all freshmen will experience college. He went through the same exact struggles that they
are bound to go through at some point in it, so he was motivated to help them survive school and stick
with it no matter how tough it gets. He consistently emphasizes how magnificent the rewards are if
one finishes all of college. One of the reasons this essay is rhetorically persuasive is because of his use
of ethos. Bagchi attended UC Berkeley to study Finance and Public Policy which increases his
credibility because he knows exactly how the freshman class feels and what they are going through.
Consequently, advice from someone who has gone through the exact same thing is a lot easier to take
in. It is hard to tell students how to succeed in school if the adviser did not go through the exact same
thing. For example, if someone tries to give a friend advice on how to deal with a breakup and that
person has never been through one, chances are that it would not be that profitable advice because
they do not know how it feels to go through a heartbreak therefore they cannot relate to them.
Credibility is important when writing an essay, but so is grabbing the readers attention. Bagchi uses
many examples of pathos throughout the essay to appeal to the reader s emotions. For instance, he
incorporates humor by advising the students to ignore the Instagram alerts of kids postponing higher
education to travel (Bagchi, 2017, p. 1). This can bring a smile to the readers face because they
understand exactly how it feels to

The refurbishing of turbine # 4 was the worst task that has been taken by S WB. The program manager

Emile Durkheim s Theory Of Social Solidarity
INTRODUCTION Solidarity is the social bond or togetherness based upon how individuals rely on
each other in the more advanced societies. According to Durkheim, the different types of social
solidarity have a mutual relationship or connection with the types of societies. Durkheim came up
with the terms organic and mechanical solidarity as part of his theory while he was doing a premier
study of social change, The Division of Labor in Societies (Stewart Zaaiman 2014:88). Emile
Durkheim is a well known theorist whose work is long lasting for sociological theorizing. Durkheim,
in his Division of Labour in Society (1893), asked: How does it come about that the individual, whilst
becoming more autonomous, depends ever more closely upon society? ... Show more content on

Communities were turning into extra heavily tenanted, leading to accumulated competition for scarce
resources and so a further intense struggle for survival (Ritzer, 2008). The division of labor allowed
folks to enhance themselves rather than conflict with one another. As (Ritzer 2008:97) wrote, In
societies with organic commonality, less competition and differentiation allow people to collaborate
additional and to all or any or any be supported by an identical resource base. Individuality, then, is
not the different of shut social bonds but a requirement for them . By accentuation the link between
increasing specialization and mutuality, Durkheim was ready to show but commonness and
individualism may go hand in hand. But Durkheim had another agenda to prove that currency does not
necessitate, as many of his colleagues believed, moral decline. As Giddens wrote, The main
proposition developed inside the Division of Labor is that modern sophisticated society is not, in spite
of the declining significance of ancient moral beliefs, inevitably tending toward [moral] disintegration

Creating Art Analysis
The feel of the brush and the smoothness of the stroke when paint meets the canvas. This feeling is
what I strive for. Art to me is an escape and simply to put it in terms is my way of life. It s not just my
hobby, interest, or talent it is so much more to me. When I decide to create something it comes from
an inspiration that overcomes me. I have many ranges of art that I do such as, painting in oil, acrylic,
or watercolor. Several of my pieces of art is from graphite pencil. Most of my topics are of people or
well at least the faces of the people. I mainly draw what I like to but sometimes I will take request
from people and draw them what they want. The reason that I tend to draw faces more than anything
else is because I like to express my feelings through the facial expressions of the ones I draw. Creating
art gives me a fulfillment, one that makes me feel like I ve done something good. I don t just do it
because it makes me feel good but because I enjoy it. Making something that shows my emotions and

something to love. Not only that but something to look forward to when my day becomes not so
happy. It has created me a future a happy future of doing what I want and not stuck wishing I did
something that I enjoy greatly. Through art I ve learned what appeals to the eye of the average human.

Use of Food in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis...
Search for food, reproduction, sleep; the primal needs for every uni and multicellular organism is to
consume in order to survive and by doing so ensuring the continued existence of its own species. As a
consequence, eating and drinking is not only an individual but also a common necessity; it is the basis
of a civilization (Keeling 5). But food is more than just nutrition; it can be pleasure or temptation, and
the way how or what is consumed is always as well a mark [for] humankind s morality (qtd. in ibid.:
6). Therefore, it is not surprising that the universal experience of food occupies an important place
within every culture (Katz 197 8). It was Eve s lusty bite into an apple that caused, according to
Christian belief, the Fall and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2). In fairy tales, as well as in their medieval oral origins, the lack of food is especially prominent
(ibid. 62). In the Brothers Grimm version of Hansel and Gretel, famine is the reason for the
woodcutter to abandon his children, but after the witch s death the siblings find precious jewellery
providing enough wealth not to suffer starvation again . Fairy tales often promised plenty of food to
satisfy hunger (ibid. 62 3); a mere fantasy which was supposed to satiate the reader s appetite in
literature since it often could not be satisfied in their everyday life. But besides the satisfying effect of
fictional food, Hansel and Gretel already hints at a more negative approach to food. The siblings are
tempted by the witch s house consisting of bread and sweets. Especially evangelical discourses
demanded dieting to resist the temptation of sins like gluttony or sloth (Labbe 94). Also the required
dining etiquette of the increasing middle class, as well as the partly lethal food alterations of
nineteenth century England, led to a rising number of didactic tales about right and wrong food (ibid.

The Effect of the Modernization of China on Chinese Music...
The modernization of China has played a key role in the changes of popular culture in China. With
modernization, the people of China were introduced to different forms and styles of music which the
Chinese studied and incorporated into their own music. They felt that the Westernization of their
music would make it more modern. With the rise of popular music came a means of identification, and
with that, regulations to control its effect on society as a whole. And finally, the blurring of boundaries
between China and the rest of the world show the ever changing nature of the music in China.
Throughout China s modernization, as the country opened up to the West, the Chinese music scene
slowly changed in terms of style, production, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He Luting later came to be one of the most influential twentieth century Chinese composers and music
educators (Lau 97).
The adoption of Western music inspired new ways of viewing music and resulted in a transformation
of Chinese music. It prompted Chinese composers to either fuse Western music with traditional
sounds or turn their back on traditional Chinese music [because they Westernized] their music
modeled on the perceptions that Western music equates with modernization (Lau 90). Additionally,
because many traditionalists feared that traditional Chinese music would gradually disappear due to
the modernizing Western music, they began to focus on promoting Chinese music as a way to
counteract the encroachment of Western culture and music. But they did it in a modernist rather than
preservationist sort of way. Many musicians experimented with new ways of composing music and
modernizing traditional instruments (Lau 92).
Scholars consider Mandarin popular songs as the first kind of modern popular music developed in
China (Lau 106). These Mandarin pop songs were developed in Shanghai in the 1920s. In Shanghai,
the trendy Chinese in Shanghai mimicked the lifestyle of the city s foreigners, engaging in pastimes
brought in from the West, and this was also

The Pathetic Jay Gatsby of Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby...
The Pathetic Jay Gatsby of The Great Gatsby
Pathetic is a term used to describe someone who is pitifully
unsuccessful. Success is not necessarily measured in wealth or fame, but
it is measured by how much one has accomplished in life. A successful
person is one who has set many goals for himself and then goes out in life
and accomplishes some of them, but goes on living even if failing on others.
In the novel The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby is a pathetic character because
he wasted his whole life chasing an unrealistic dream.

paper for years just on the chance of catching a glimpse of Daisy s

Gatsby is pathetic because he behaves like a child and he cannot
handle adult situations like an adult. His childish demands show that he
is a pathetic and immature human being. Jordan says, I immediately
suggested a luncheon in New York and I thought he d go mad: I don t
want to do anything out of the way! he kept saying. I want to see her

Nick s house, his nervousness shows his inability to handle adult
situations. Gatsby, pale as death, with his hands plunged like weights in
his coat pockets, was standing in a puddle of water glaring tragically into
my eyes. (Fitzgerald 91) A mature adult would be able to handle this
situation without running around the outside of the house in the rain and
then arriving at the front door as if it was just a coincidence. Even in
the situation of the reunion with the long lost lover, a mature adult would
be able to stay in the house and greet her at the door and not try to lie

Analysis Of Primo Levi s Book Survival In Auschwitz
Primo Levi describes in his book, Survival in Auschwitz, the horrors inflicted upon the prisoners
contained within Auschwitz and their struggle to remain themselves and to survive within the camp.
The sign placed at the entrance of Auschwitz read the words, Arbeit Macht Frei , or Work Gives
Freedom , an ironic statement considering the Nazis took everything away from these individuals that
constitutes established human rights and freedom. Without the elements that make up a human being,
there was limited freedom for the prisoners. What are the possible meanings of Arbeit Macht Frei ,
and could the prisoners obtain any freedom ? While the freedoms of the prisoners were limited in
Auschwitz, Primo Levi shows in his book, Survival in Auschwitz , that the prisoners could gain a
sense of freedom through hope of release, death, or mental suppression. First, it would be very helpful
to this paper to describe the ways that Nazis deprived the individuals in the concentration camp of
their freedom. The Nazis main goal was to completely exterminate the Jews, and if one was a Jew, the
Nazis discriminated against them and either transported the Jews to a concentration camp or to a
crematorium. Upon transportation, the Nazis ripped everything away from the individuals that made
them human loved ones, food, hair, personal belongings, clothing, shoes, security, full bellies, rested
bodies, hopeful thoughts, compassion, privacy, humanity, independence, one s own body, free will,

Tracking In Elementary Schools
Tracking is a system that schools used to split students up into different groups based on perceived
academic abilities. Usually the groupings consist of above average, average, and below average.
Students take classes only with those students who are on the same track. There is usually no mixing
of academic abilities. Sometimes tracking can begin as early as elementary school. Some elementary
schools have separate programs for gifted and talented students, much like my own elementary.
Typically tracking starts in middle school. Assignment to tracks is based on not only academic
abilities, but nonacademic factors as well. Academic factors that influence track placement are grades,
scores on standardized tests, teachers and counselors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Hallinan pp.260) The students in the middle grouping suffer quite a bit from tracking. The middle
grouped students come to high school and hit a wall. The best teachers are reserved for the higher
tracked students (Hallinan pp.82). That usually leaves the middle grouped students with the middle
tracked teachers. Students attachment to teachers is a very important thing. It promotes drive, effort
and attentiveness. (Hallinan 2008) The students are not challenged as much as they should be and they
become bored. Boredom does not promote the students attachment to the teacher. Sometimes these
students even get placed with lower tracked courses and grow even more tired and bored of the same
old material. This boredom creates almost a sense of resentment towards schooling and education.
These students are forced to come to school everyday and practically sit there and go over the same
lesson for four years. When these students try to attend college, the classes seem extremely fast paced
and overwhelming. Many middle grouped students have to take remedial core courses such as, math,
science, and English. These students were fully capable of being prepared for college; they just weren

  • 3. The Life of Spanish Baroque Painter Martolome Esteban Murillo On January 1st, 1618, Bartolome Esteban Murillo was born in Seville Spain. Murillo was the most famous Spanish Baroque painter of his time, known for his religious works. Murillo was the youngest of fourteen children, born to Gaspar Esteban, a barber, and María Perez . Murillo gained his surname from a traditional Andalusian custom, taking the name of his grandmother, Elvira Murillo. In 1627, Murillo s father passed away, and his mother died a year later. Murillo was an orphan at ten years old, and was sent to live with his older sister and her husband. Murillo was exposed to the art world from a young age. His uncle was a painter, who married the daughter of another successful artist. All the daughters of this couple went on to marry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even despite this, the 1660 s were the busiest in Murillo s entire career. His portraits from this time are some of his best,. In 1680, Murillo was commissioned to paint the main altarpiece for the Capuchins church in Cádiz. This was an incredible honor. While working up on a scaffold, Murillo fell and died soon after. During his lifetime, Murillo left an incredible art legacy. His style has similarities from his teacher, and Zurbarán, the most popular painter in Seville before himself. In his early years, Murillo painted in the style known as Chiaroscuro. Chiaroscuro is a style with strong contrast between light and dark. Murillo used a lot of lighting techniques he learned from Zurbaran, but Murillo s works were lighter and softer than Zurbaran. Overtime, Murillo stopped painting in Chiaroscuro, and his style evolved to be lighter and more like the style of Federico Barocci. His trip to Madrid further changed his style, encouraging him to use thick brushstrokes, warm tones, highlights, and richer color. In Murillo s late life, his style changed again. Murillo used looser brush strokes, and sober colors. It is said that his work during this time in his life was vaporous and more refined. One of his more famous paintings is called The Young Beggar and is on display at the Musée du Louvre, in Paris, France. This painting shows a sad beggar boy sitting alone on a street ... • 4. The Issue Of Mainstream Media Bias Essay The world is not responding to events in this country, but rather to the description of these events by news organizations. The key to understanding the strange nature of the response is thus to be found in the practice of journalism.... (Friedman, 2014) This article considers the concepts in arguing that mainstream media bias exists. Exists and presents, in message and content, an essentially biased product, in direct opposition of their industry standards declaration of impartiality and neutrality. In an effort to establish meaning and prepare the reader this article applies the definition of bias as applied by Grosclose and Milyo, whose paper A Measure of Media Bias which was published in the Quarterly Journal of Economics in November of 2005 and is still relevant today; Before proceeding, it is useful to clarify our definition of bias. Most important, the definition has nothing to do with the honesty or accuracy of the news outlet. Instead, our notion is more like a taste or preference (Groseclose Milyo, 2005). In the context of a quantitative content analysis of media bias, its delivery, its targeted audience and ultimate evaluation will determine the taste and establish preference . Through the intentional and un intentional portrayal of an established or implied bias the target audience s opinions, ideals and motivations are necessarily affected. Specifically, the term media in the context of this article refers to journalistic news sources that are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Lewis Personality In The Chronicles Of Narnia Lewis personality is personified in The Chronicles of Narnia, and specifically in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader through the children. The children Lucy, Edmund, Caspian, and Eustace are searching for the seven missing lords exiled by King Caspian s odorous Uncle Miraz. Additionally, they are searching for the far east or Aslan s country. But more pointedly Edmund and Lucy are continually searching for Aslan. In the novels, Aslan is a huge lion that appears from time to time offering assistance, judgement, and wisdom to the children as they journey through Narnia. The children are constantly searching for Aslan (Christ) just as Lewis was searching for the truth of Christianity and to come back to the father. By reading the books with a Christian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lewis was struggling with leading a life that was devoted to Christ and he presented this struggle and eventual surrender to the Lord through his work. Lewis had to learn that God would also be with him and pursue even when he was sinning and running from the Lord. This continual chase and presence is mirrored through Aslan. Aslan is always with the children throughout the entirety of the novel, They see Aslan at a distance moving across the horizon or a living image of him on the page of a book; he answers Lucy s prayer by providing help to escape from the terrors of the Dark Island; and he talks to Caspian, Lucy, and Edmund. He empowers, encourages, restrains, and guards the children, filling more of a spiritual than a physical role (Schakel, Hidden Images of Christ in the Fiction of C.S. Lewis). Dreaming up a fantasy world full of talking animals was not a last minute invention for Lewis Walter Hooper, his editor, tells us. When asked about how he came to the idea for the series he states, All my seven Narnia books, and my three science fiction books, began with seeing pictures in my head. At first they were not a story, just pictures. The Lion all began with a picture of a Faun carrying an umbrella and parcels in a snowy wood. This picture had been in my mind since I was about sixteen. Then one day, when I was about forty, I said to myself: Let s try to make a story about it (Hooper 12). • 6. Adler s Ethos In How To Mark A Book When I read a book or a paper, I read it and sometimes make a few mental notes. What do you do? Do you mark and write things down? In Mortimer J. Adler s paper, How to Mark a Book, he argues the best way to get the most out of reading is to mark the book or paper, leaving ones thoughts on the pages. Some say this slows them down, or leaves behind a messy, ruined book, but Adler claims reading slower and writing thoughts down allows the reader and author to have a conversation that will enhance the readers understanding of the text. Through his paper, Adler attempts to use the rhetorical triangle of ethos, pathos, and logos to connect the audience to his paper and to convince them the best way to understand a text is through marking it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ethos Out of the three, ethos, pathos, and logos, Mortimer J. Adler uses ethos, or the ethical character and credibility of the speaker, most effectively, in order to convince his audience that he has a right to be explaining the usefulness of marking a book while reading it. In the very beginning, there is an introduction about Adler which states things such as, He founded and fathered the Great Books Program, edited the Encyclopedia Britannica, and wrote dozens of books on educational, intellectual, and philosophical topics (Adler, n.d./2012, p.1). He also earned his PhD from Columbia University after dropping out of high school, demonstrating his dedication to learning. This sets the stage for the reader to feel that the author is a credible source for writing on this subject. As the article continues, Adler retains his credibility by mentioning other point of views. He says, You may say that this business of marking books is going to slow up your reading (Adler, n.d./2012, p.4). Although he does mention these other points of view, he refutes them quickly. For example, the next two sentences say, It probably will. That s one of the reasons for doing it (Adler, n.d./2012, p.4). He refutes the other viewpoints in order to help the reader feel more confident that his way is the best way. He does so in a way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Latin American Culture Essay Jared Wong Professor Figueredo SPAN 2200 Commercial Culture: How the Hip Hop Industry Influenced Latin American Hip Hop As the music industry has become commercialized on an international level, people have argued that music culture has become somewhat homogeneous worldwide. America is often seen as the center of this commercial expansion; this can be seen in the case of music, as American artists have recently been achieving mainstream success with international audiences. Artists from the US are now able to tour internationally, and are well received across the world. This paper analyzes the effects of this commercialization in Latin America, specifically in the context of hip hop. Latin America has traditionally had its own unique musical style, but as a region it has not been immune to the influence and spread of commercialized hip hop. The extent to which this movement has influenced Latin America is not always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the fact that their commercial release records still seem to retain their values, the fact that Orishas left Cuba to achieve success seems to directly conflict with some of their musical themes (Songs like A Lo Cubano and Hay Un Son are primarily about representing Cuban culture and identity) (Ramsdell). Santa Monica Mountains Essay The range mapped in the Santa Monica Mountains is limited on the south by Hollywood, on the north by the San Fernando Valley, on the west by Cahuenga Pass and Dark Canyon, and on the east by the Los Angeles River. Griffith Park is incorporated inside the eastern portion of the region. The vital topographic component of the territory is an east westridge. The edge is in accordance with the peak of the Santa Monica Mountains, however they are separatedby Cahuenga Pass, a low transverse seat. • 11. California Psychological Inventory Essay The California Psychological Inventory (CPI) is a sophisticated assessment developed to not only measure personality but also to predict how people will react in different situation. It is a more indepth version of MBTI. The purpose of this test is to provide a portrait of both personal and work related characteristics. It is a self report inventory, and a personality assessment. It is empirically derived by test taker s drives, motivations, interpersonal style, and ways of leading. CPI used common factors that are easier to be understood by test takers to measure their interpersonal skills, self management skills, motivation and thinking styles, and personal characteristics. Your CPI report is divided into four parts, however, we will only discuss the first, second and the last part of the result in the report. First. The first part of the CPI report explains the reliability of the protocol. The purpose of this component is to assure you that there is no evidence of invalidity from your CPI report because you did not input too many responses that are atypical or random. This also show that you did not overly favorite a self portrait or unduly criticize your self representation. Second. In Foucault s Manet and the Object of Painting, the structural form differs, as the text was originally a 1971 lecture given in Tunisia alongside a series of other lectures he delivered in Milan, Tokyo, and Florence. Thus, what we find is a slightly tweaked, translated transcription of the talk. Not only did politicians change their allegiances, but moderate reformers were radicalised, and British society was completely divided into supporters and detractors of the Revolution. It also resulted in a drastic politicisation of Ireland, changing the nature of politics completely. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ideological issues raised by the French Revolution served as a catalyst for British domestic politics subsequently leading to the development of a Tory Party in Britain as those who followed Burke followed him to William Pitt the Younger who established the first Tory government. Pitt s initial lacklustre reaction to the Revolution had changed rapidly with the growth of radicalism in Britain, especially after Thomas Paine published his Rights of Man in 1791, condemning it as a monstrous doctrine . This new Tory government that had been established was much less tolerant of reformers in a time where radical reformers were far more common and were feeding off the energy of the French Revolution. In the 1770s, a movement for parliamentary reform began in Britain under the leadership of middle class men such as John Cartwright and Christopher Wyvill. When the Revolution in France began in 1789 this movement began to grow rapidly, and an atmosphere of revolutionary fervour spread across Britain, inspiring reformers. However, when asked the question, what are your personal values, beliefs, and principles the first responses are often a laundry list of characteristics with the assumption that the three words are synonymous. From my experience, when asked this question the list grew longer and I started to wonder what the differences existed between each of these terms. Recognizing these differences is a major component of discovering how I make decisions when facing ethical dilemmas involving directives that may be morally unsound. Hence, I began the search of how the terms relate, their meaning and what my answer is to this question. Since I invested time to find the differences in principles, beliefs and values my long list became more defined. So, the essay will encompass the definitions of the terms, explain two elements for each category, how they relate to one another and how the knowledge influences tough decisions. In the Oxford dictionary, artifice is defined as clever or cunning devices or expedients, use to trick or deceive others. This foreshadows the deception that the writer exposes in the poem. Piercy describes a global dilemma the the use of metaphor (a bonsai tree). A bonsai tree is an ornamental tree or shrub grown in a pot and artificially prevented from reaching its normal size. A woman may feel inclined to stick to societal expectations for fear of being detached from others. Consequently, inside the pot, no woman or bonsai tree can grow to their fullest potential. Metaphorical use is also shown as Piercey compares the gardener to society. Continuously, society tries to mold women into being domestic and weak. The gardener is shown doing this as he carefully prunes and whittles back the branches. He is only declining the progression of the bonsai tree as he creates his own vision for it. Shounak Bagchi, a UC Berkeley alumni addresses the UC Berkeley freshman Class of 2017 and gives them advice on how to succeed throughout their college years. He makes them appreciate the handwork they completed to get accepted into the school, but also how to make the best out of their time while attending UC Berkeley. Alumnus Welcomes... is rhetorically persuasive because Bagchi was an alumni of the school that he wrote to which gives him credibility, he used humor to grab the reader s attention and he stated facts about the school, which attracts the audience s sense of logic. The author was inspired to write this essay because he experienced college the same way all freshmen will experience college. He went through the same exact struggles that they are bound to go through at some point in it, so he was motivated to help them survive school and stick with it no matter how tough it gets. He consistently emphasizes how magnificent the rewards are if one finishes all of college. One of the reasons this essay is rhetorically persuasive is because of his use of ethos. Bagchi attended UC Berkeley to study Finance and Public Policy which increases his credibility because he knows exactly how the freshman class feels and what they are going through. Consequently, advice from someone who has gone through the exact same thing is a lot easier to take in. It is hard to tell students how to succeed in school if the adviser did not go through the exact same thing. For example, if someone tries to give a friend advice on how to deal with a breakup and that person has never been through one, chances are that it would not be that profitable advice because they do not know how it feels to go through a heartbreak therefore they cannot relate to them. Credibility is important when writing an essay, but so is grabbing the readers attention. Bagchi uses many examples of pathos throughout the essay to appeal to the reader s emotions. For instance, he incorporates humor by advising the students to ignore the Instagram alerts of kids postponing higher education to travel (Bagchi, 2017, p. 1). This can bring a smile to the readers face because they understand exactly how it feels to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, it is not surprising that the universal experience of food occupies an important place within every culture (Katz 197 8). It was Eve s lusty bite into an apple that caused, according to Christian belief, the Fall and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2). In fairy tales, as well as in their medieval oral origins, the lack of food is especially prominent (ibid. 62). In the Brothers Grimm version of Hansel and Gretel, famine is the reason for the woodcutter to abandon his children, but after the witch s death the siblings find precious jewellery providing enough wealth not to suffer starvation again . Fairy tales often promised plenty of food to satisfy hunger (ibid. 62 3); a mere fantasy which was supposed to satiate the reader s appetite in literature since it often could not be satisfied in their everyday life. But besides the satisfying effect of fictional food, Hansel and Gretel already hints at a more negative approach to food. The siblings are tempted by the witch s house consisting of bread and sweets. Especially evangelical discourses demanded dieting to resist the temptation of sins like gluttony or sloth (Labbe 94). Also the required dining etiquette of the increasing middle class, as well as the partly lethal food alterations of nineteenth century England, led to a rising number of didactic tales about right and wrong food (ibid. 93). According to Daniel, the detailed and stimulating descriptions of food in children s literature are a meant to seduce the child reader to swallow the bitter pill of ... • 31. The Effect of the Modernization of China on Chinese Music... The modernization of China has played a key role in the changes of popular culture in China. With modernization, the people of China were introduced to different forms and styles of music which the Chinese studied and incorporated into their own music. They felt that the Westernization of their music would make it more modern. With the rise of popular music came a means of identification, and with that, regulations to control its effect on society as a whole. And finally, the blurring of boundaries between China and the rest of the world show the ever changing nature of the music in China. Throughout China s modernization, as the country opened up to the West, the Chinese music scene slowly changed in terms of style, production, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He Luting later came to be one of the most influential twentieth century Chinese composers and music educators (Lau 97). The adoption of Western music inspired new ways of viewing music and resulted in a transformation of Chinese music. It prompted Chinese composers to either fuse Western music with traditional sounds or turn their back on traditional Chinese music [because they Westernized] their music modeled on the perceptions that Western music equates with modernization (Lau 90). Additionally, because many traditionalists feared that traditional Chinese music would gradually disappear due to the modernizing Western music, they began to focus on promoting Chinese music as a way to counteract the encroachment of Western culture and music. But they did it in a modernist rather than preservationist sort of way. Many musicians experimented with new ways of composing music and modernizing traditional instruments (Lau 92). Scholars consider Mandarin popular songs as the first kind of modern popular music developed in China (Lau 106). These Mandarin pop songs were developed in Shanghai in the 1920s. In Shanghai, the trendy Chinese in Shanghai mimicked the lifestyle of the city s foreigners, engaging in pastimes brought in from the West, and this was also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gatsby, pale as death, with his hands plunged like weights in his coat pockets, was standing in a puddle of water glaring tragically into my eyes. (Fitzgerald 91) A mature adult would be able to handle this situation without running around the outside of the house in the rain and then arriving at the front door as if it was just a coincidence. Even in the situation of the reunion with the long lost lover, a mature adult would be able to stay in the house and greet her at the door and not try to lie that he did ... • 34. Analysis Of Primo Levi s Book Survival In Auschwitz Primo Levi describes in his book, Survival in Auschwitz, the horrors inflicted upon the prisoners contained within Auschwitz and their struggle to remain themselves and to survive within the camp. The sign placed at the entrance of Auschwitz read the words, Arbeit Macht Frei , or Work Gives Freedom , an ironic statement considering the Nazis took everything away from these individuals that constitutes established human rights and freedom. Without the elements that make up a human being, there was limited freedom for the prisoners. What are the possible meanings of Arbeit Macht Frei , and could the prisoners obtain any freedom ? While the freedoms of the prisoners were limited in Auschwitz, Primo Levi shows in his book, Survival in Auschwitz , that the prisoners could gain a sense of freedom through hope of release, death, or mental suppression. First, it would be very helpful to this paper to describe the ways that Nazis deprived the individuals in the concentration camp of their freedom. The Nazis main goal was to completely exterminate the Jews, and if one was a Jew, the Nazis discriminated against them and either transported the Jews to a concentration camp or to a crematorium. Upon transportation, the Nazis ripped everything away from the individuals that made them human loved ones, food, hair, personal belongings, clothing, shoes, security, full bellies, rested bodies, hopeful thoughts, compassion, privacy, humanity, independence, one s own body, free will, ... • 35. Tracking In Elementary Schools Tracking is a system that schools used to split students up into different groups based on perceived academic abilities. Usually the groupings consist of above average, average, and below average. Students take classes only with those students who are on the same track. There is usually no mixing of academic abilities. Sometimes tracking can begin as early as elementary school. Some elementary schools have separate programs for gifted and talented students, much like my own elementary. Typically tracking starts in middle school. Assignment to tracks is based on not only academic abilities, but nonacademic factors as well. Academic factors that influence track placement are grades, scores on standardized tests, teachers and counselors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Hallinan pp.260) The students in the middle grouping suffer quite a bit from tracking. The middle grouped students come to high school and hit a wall. The best teachers are reserved for the higher tracked students (Hallinan pp.82). That usually leaves the middle grouped students with the middle tracked teachers. Students attachment to teachers is a very important thing. It promotes drive, effort and attentiveness. (Hallinan 2008) The students are not challenged as much as they should be and they become bored. Boredom does not promote the students attachment to the teacher. Sometimes these students even get placed with lower tracked courses and grow even more tired and bored of the same old material. This boredom creates almost a sense of resentment towards schooling and education. These students are forced to come to school everyday and practically sit there and go over the same lesson for four years. When these students try to attend college, the classes seem extremely fast paced and overwhelming. Many middle grouped students have to take remedial core courses such as, math, science, and English.
