Interview Essay Peter Clauss
Peter Clauss was born March 21, 1935, in what was then, East Germany. Growing up he worked in
hotel restaurants; this was where he learned his trade. Instead of attending the regular school system
he learned the skills that he would need later on in life in the restaurant. Today Peter enjoys attending
the opera, theater, concerts and plays. It is these places where he finds most of his happiness in life.
What is your definition of happiness?
Not to have any worries or as few worries as possible.
Has your definition changed over the years?
Yes. This year I changed a lot, it s a whole process.
Who or what do you turn to when you are unhappy?

everything in the restaurant business. So no one really went to school for very long. You just studied

months, and fill out some forms, and you still don t know anything.
Would you share a fond memory of your family?
Just working in the restaraunt for many years along side my family was good. Just good times, nothing
really terrible happened to me, not in work or life or anything really.
What are you most proud of in life?
That I m still alive, and other achievements too. Is there anything you wish you could do that you have
not yet done? I always wanted to be a musician. I could say I wanted to do this or that, but you know, I
did the best I could. Now it s too late. I can t be a pianist because it s too late.
Is there anything you wish you could change in your life?
I really don t have any regrets; you know some people say, I wish I could have done this or that, but
no. Coming from East Germany to West Germany was a big step. That s why little things don t bother
me.
Is there a relationship between love and happiness?
Oh yes. What relationships contribute to your happiness? All of my friends make me happy.
Is it better to have loved and lost then to

Btk Killer Research Paper
The BTK Killer is a psychotic male named Dennis Rader. His murder spree started in 1974 with the
Otero family. Dennis then went through 10 victims without getting convicted till 1991. Throughout
Dennis s crime spree he would send messages and puzzles to KAKE and the police taunting them by
basically admitting to it. The reason why they couldn t convict him was that they didn t know who it

The Man Eaters Of Tsavo Analysis
The Man Eaters of Tsavo, by John Henry Patterson, describes the terrorizing effect of a pair of man
eating lions on a camp of railroad workers in 1898 East Africa. Patterson s memoir demonstrates the
difficulties and influences that imperialistic Great Britain had over the Africans, and faced many
issues while trying to develop the infrastructure of the continent in order to take advantage of the
wealth and natural resources in the interior of Africa.
Throughout the story, Patterson always wanted to be in power which represented how Great Britain
wanted to be the most powerful nation in the old world, especially over all of the other imperialistic
nations. For example, Great Britain judged the African people because they hardly wore any clothes,
but in reality, that was due to the harsh climate they lived in. In addition, Great Britain wanted to
civilize the African peoples because they viewed them as uncivilized, due to their lack of ... Show

The British hired David Livingstone to travel all parts of Africa to describe all of the unknown
territory where no one had ever gone before. Livingstone also made maps of everywhere he went so
that the British would know where to navigate if they ever decided to go further into the interior of
Africa. However, David Livingstone could represent John Henry Patterson s expedition of Africa
because Patterson described all of the unknown landscape that other Europeans never knew existed.
Another reason for Great Britain not having to explore the inner parts of Africa was that disease had
stalled them. In addition, many of the British people were not immune to the bugs that carried certain
type of diseases, while the African peoples were immune. For example, a mosquito that carried
malaria could quickly put an end to one s

The Event I Decided At Attend
The event I chose to attend would be the S.M.A.R.T (Students of Color Mentoring, Aiding, Retaining,
and Teaching) life size game of Life. I finally decided to go to this event was because, with all of the
classes reflecting on privilege and diversity I wanted to take this chance and learn more about the
subject beyond class. This was a little outside of my comfort zone because S.M.A.R.T only consist of
people of color, and even though I have a good deal of Native American in me I know that I am seen
as a White Caucasian. Before attending this event I can easily say I was a bit timid to attend knowing
that this would be a completely new experience for me. There is always a hush tone when dealing with
diversity and racial matters, and I was afraid that I would be seen as someone who does not care about
today s society and its racial discrimination. There is always that line of being color blind like we
spoke about in class and the line of almost teaching about diversity as if we do face it the same even
though we have not gone through these hard ships. I did not want to ignore their hardships and yet, I
did not want to come off as if I understand their hardships. When I first walked into the event it was
actually like a breath of fresh air. There were people laughing and screaming and running. I wanted to
join immediately. The fame was simple each person would receive a name tag at the point of entry and
there would be a secret code of colors and shapes on each name tag that

The Inequality Of Latin America
In the 1500s, Spanish and Portuguese colonizers imposed their language, their religion, and their
social institutions on the indigenous Americans and enslaved Africans, people who labored for them in
mines and fields and who served them, too, at table and in bed (Chasteen 5). Many people would say
this is where inequality in Latin America began, with colonization. However, colonization is just a
small piece of the roots of inequality of the region, which actually started with the natives of the lands
such as the Incas, Aztecs and Mayans. These three empires ruled most of the Latin American region
and did so by conquering other native groups or tribes. The Empires had a ruling class or king that
was able to oppress and work his people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Peninsulars received the land and the control over the government?, which caused issues with the next
class, the Creoles. Creoles were people of Spanish decent born in Latin America. Despite the slight
distinction between the two, they did not receive the same land and power as the Peninsulars because
of their birthplace, which caused resentment and later sparked revolution. Next were the Mestizos,
who were of European and indigenous American decent. The more the different ethnicities mixed, the
more class distinctions were created. Because they introduced foreign diseases, the Europeans and
Africans eventually replaced the indigenous Americans and brought about the potential for rich
diversity. Social class typically ranged from the most European being the best off to the most
indigenous or African being the poorest. The original sin of Latin American history the festering social
injustice at the core had done its durable damage (Chasteen 42). In addition, the social and political
systems created by the Peninsulars were intended to serve their home country, only making matters
worse.
Once Spanish and Portuguese established rule in the New World, they began to economically take
advantage of the indigenous people and the new resources. The Spanish Crown implemented a tax
called the royal fifth to get money from the mining in Latin America, and to collect the tax they had to

Analyzing Langston Hughes The Weary Blues

Hallie Beard
Ragtime Writer
Jazz music is associated with long, lazy melodies and ornate rhythmical patterns, the Blues, also
follows this form. Langston Hughes poem, The Weary Blues, uses non traditional rhyme and meter in
order to reach the average individual, going against the conventional form that previous writers had
set in stone. A ragtime melody narrates the story of someone s demise and the resolution of their
situation just as Hughes poem, The Weary Blues, mimics the blues as it narrates a story about the
piano man. The The Weary Blues is dark which directly mimics the somewhat depressed plot of the
poem. Sound plays an essential role in Hughes poem as they reiterate the dull mood by ,

Buying a New Home
This paper will address what to consider when buying a new home and what affects like marginal
benefit, marginal cost, strength of the economy, domestic economy, and international trade, can have
on situations and the conditions when making a decision to purchase a home. The principles of
economics can directly relate to the purchase of a house, because you must consider all the possible
affects your decision might have and the principles do a great job at helping you be more analytical
with your decision and your reasoning to buy. When you consider marginal benefit to a home
purchase you will be considering the benefit as a consumer you will have over the housing market of

This value of U.S. currency does affect company profits, their budgeting, as well as manufacturing
costs. There are ramifications from a decrease in value of the dollar, examples are; capital investment,
multiple plant openings and closings. Because many companies over time have outsourced work to
foreign companies because the cost to employ people is cheaper, but the dollar has decrease in value
which is returning the factories or call centers back to the U.S. International trade is very important to
our domestic economy as it does decrease the value and power of the dollar, which will then change
our ability to afford things at a respectable price. This is the reason for consideration when purchasing
a home; these factors are necessary to your dream of owning a home. But when these factors are what
they are right now, you can see why many might find a purchase like a home is out of reach with the
decreased value of the dollar and a struggling economy. If Americans can start doing things a little
different, like consuming less and finding ways to innovate new ideas and more efficient ways to do
more, we can then find a solution to these failures in our economy.
For me at this time in life I see buying a home a good thing and a decision I am ready to commit too.
My reasoning is the location of where I am going to buy. Markets around the nation are very different

Comparing The Tempest And Yojiro Takita s Departures
A comparative study of Shakespeare s play, The Tempest and Yojiro Takita s film, Departures
reinforce the concept that an individual s competency to recognise the connotations of foreign
contexts, leaves lasting impacts on their perspectives of the world and those around them. Both
composers incorporate the vital idea that characters confrontation with morality induces developments
of change and subsequently reflect integral actions of compassion. The Tempest sets the discourse of
an abortive revenge drama that focuses on Prospero and his outlook on humanity through the art of
forgiving. Subversively in Departures, Takita manipulates confrontations of humanity through Daigo

Takita emphasises the flaws of the human condition through Daigo as he starts his first day working
with a rotting corpse. Medium shots are employed to highlight Daigo s body language where he forces
himself to close his eyes and tries to stray away from the body. Such techniques strongly suggest
distaste and disturbance as systematic responses whilst illustrating the extent of which the impacts of
discovery can be provocative in confronting world values. Takita s manipulations with camera work
effectively triggers automatic disfigured expressions in the audience, reminding them of their
weaknesses whilst encouraging consideration for actions in response. This perspective of weakness
and violation is further emphasised with the utilising of close shots where it captures Daigo washing
himself like someone who has a cleaning disorder. Daigo s sense of affliction fully encompasses the
concept confrontation instigates a process of emotional discovery as inevitable actions for attempts to
accept universal truths of weakness and the inevitability of death. Thus positioning us to view such
conflicts with sympathy as while securing in emotional troubles, consider confrontations to be a vessel

Chief Project Leader For Musat s New Project
As the appointed project leader for MusAt s new project, I have arranged a team of five creative
members with different skills and talent to execute and finalise the project. The paper will introduce
the members I have chosen and justify why I have appointed them to the team. I will also address
potential issues of each member and as a manager I will justify how I will oversee outcomes of the
work to report to Fiona.
First appointed member of the team is Dagma. I have chosen Dagma for her long term experience in
the industry and capability to manage a team with maturity.
Dagma will be useful in the project to oversee new members to MuSat such as Angela Hutness.
Because Dagma is and mature member of the group with an authoritative attitude, Dagma will be my
eyes and ears for reporting of other members of the team. This approach, according Beir (1995), is
using a leader within the team who knowns the team well enough to compensate for any risks in the
creative process, (Beir, 1995, p. 503). Dagma will fill structural holes for instances, running along
information to members like Charles who may be left out due to leaving meetings early. Other team
members such as Philippa who might work solo could leave information gaps in the reporting, Dagma
will be able to focus on the process of others in the project and translate information across the team
when I am unable to, inevitably building trust within the team.,(Burt, 2004). In addition I have chosen

Disrespect In The Grapes Of Wrath
The Grapes of Wrath, by John Steinbeck, discusses humanities disrespect for its environment. The
novel, set in the 1930s, is just as relevant today as when it was published. Yuhas, the author of The

The Eighth Sin In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
The Eighth Sin Of the Seven Deadly Sins, there are powerful arguments for each one being more
deadly or worse than the others. However, there is an Eighth that is inherently the worst sin. Each of
the Seven Sins are socially acceptable in small doses. For example, it is not a sin to be proud of
something you ve made or to mad at a situation or to even simply want what someone else has. All
that becomes sin, however, when it is blown out of moderation, and when you go out of your way to
amplify the feelings and act on them, like becoming so proud you actively try to destroy others works
or become so wanting you steal, take, or destroy others property. This Eighth Sin, though, is not like
this. You cannot simply act it out in moderation, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This action can also be projected onto other people, deliberately causing them to become more
depressed and losing hope. To actively make yourself and others around you lose will and heart is to
kill yourself and others not only possibly physically, but spiritually. It is the eighth sin and quite
possibly the worst sin because it affects not only you, but primarily those around you.
Integrating despondence into Canterbury Tales would simply be another tale told by one of the
pilgrims. This tale could be about a desponder whose sin catches up to him or her after his or her
regular hopeless attitude and projection of it onto others causes a catastrophic event with them
negative results on those around them. The moral of the tale about despond would be simply stated,
though sometimes difficult to do; this moral would be to support others and do your best to instill
them with confidence, to keep their spirits and their hopes up. We can learn through helping others not
just physically but emotionally, we help ourselves just the same. Staying despondent creates a cycle of
hopelessness and depression that may never be broken, and the cycle has no positive

The Pros And Cons Of Egoism
Egoism is the theory that one ought to do what is in one s self interest. One is to maximize their own
self interest and potential. One cannot prosper if they contain their own interests and needs in order to
satisfy the interests of others. Once morality is obtained by one protecting their personal interests and
content with it, then they are able to satisfy the interests of others. Egoism is similar to that anything
that would aid in survival is good and anything that hampers survival is evil. There are two types of
egoism, psychological or descriptive egoism and ethical or normative egoism. Psychological egoism is
that humans are only driven by self interest. For example if one were to help another human being, the
sole reason is because the individual directly or indirectly benefits from this experience. Ethical
egoism is that it is significant and acceptable for an action to be morally ... Show more content on

Thomas Hobbes argues that egoism is valid through a sense of morality and that an individual will end
up being altruistic through his views of egoism. Ayn Rand another famous philosopher states that one
can only be either altruistic or egoistic. One cannot be both. Ayn Rand believes an individual has value
and that the only philosophy that states that an individual has self worth is egoism. Ethical egoism is
often based off the fact that psychological egoism is true and this entails that we always act
egotistically and cannot prevent ourselves from acting this way. An example of this would be if one
were to donate to a charity that helps little kids. In terms of psychological egoism the individual didn t
donate money to the charity to help kids, that would altruistic, one did it because one wanted to.

Women s Equality And The Ethical Theory Of Deontology
Women and men have had certain roles in society that were understood amongst them to be specified
for their particular gender. Males were known to have the leading role as head of the house hold and
the bread winner while the woman s duty was to stay at home and take care of the house and children.
While many people years ago deemed this way of life and practice to be the right and ethical thing to
do, times have changed and so this kind of treatment towards a woman s equality must be questioned.
Even though times have changed, this mindset of a woman s ability to be as good as a man has not
completely gone away. In today s society a woman contributes to the economy and her family as
equally as that of a man. Therefore, women should share equal rights and opportunities as their gender
counterparts. Women s equality applies to the ethical theory of Deontology. Deontology emphasizes
on the question of would this act always be the right thing to do, for everyone, in the same
circumstances (Mosser, 2013). It is apparent in today s society that women s rights and equality are
being looked at closer by our governments and political bodies, but there is not enough being done to
make women as equal to men. Women want to be seen as equals and the golden rule should apply to
the equality of women because men would want the same thing if they were in a woman s position.
One of the areas that could use work is the equality in the labor and workforce. The labor and

Similarities Between The Matrix And Plato s Allegory Of...
The movie The Matrix follows a character named Neo through his struggle adapting to the truth as
well as to a new form of reality. The plot of the film is closely related to that of Plato s Allegory of the
Cave. The idea of freeing one s mind and soul from illusion is stressed in both the film as well as in
Plato s theory. Neo is trapped in a false reality created by a computer program that took over the
world. The plot certainly contains other conflicts such as good versus evil and reality versus illusion.
In the film, Neo is taken away from the matrix and learns that he is the one to save the humans from

The Truman Show emphasizes the formation of false relationships, the loss of identity and the self
deception that comes with virtual reality. Descartes ideas of seeking knowledge to understand the truth
is widely evident throughout the film. Similarly to Descartes skepticism regarding knowledge derived
from the senses, Truman begins to doubt what he believes as well. After seeing his deceased father, he
becomes uncertain about his existence and the people around him, such as when he begins testing the
people of Seahaven and concludes that there are loose threads and slips of the tongue. Unlike
Descartes, though, Truman does not question every part of his reality like physical aspects, but he,
nonetheless, believes that nothing in his world is genuine and that everyone around him is in on it.
Truman s idea to abandon his trust in knowledge through the senses as well as his skepticism for his
surroundings is predominantly similar to Descartes methods to uncovering his own reality.
Furthermore, Descartes theory of the evil demon can be a way to explain how Truman was forced into
a false reality. Descartes description of the evil demon is similar to the character Christof, the director
and creator of the Truman Show. Similar to the evil demon theory, Christof chooses the

The Production of Video Games Taught At School
An electronic device in which a player would control the images on the screen is known as video
games (WorldBookStudent). Video games are the basis to why some students do not do well to school.
This is because these students would get the video game addiction in which the games would take
over the lives of a kid. Is this a psychological disorder like the others stated within the DSM IV? The
answer for this is no (CRCHealthGroup). This addiction however is not a mental disorder, but instead
many students may use video games as a stress reducer by releasing all their energy that they gain
during the day on the video games. These students would only feel that a videogame is more
interesting because it would have cool graphics and most games are multiplayer games which mean
that they can play with their friends (VideoGameAddiction). This cause would lead to the effect of
where students do badly in school because they would be too concentrated in the video games they
play that they will have less time to do any homework which will lead them to not understanding the
concept within what the lesson is about. From this adults can understand how students do not do well
when they take tests and final exams. What can people do about this situation in this case? Since some
students within school are addicted to video games, therefore the school system should provide a
career pathway on how to create and program video games because it will allow these gaming
students to participate

Due to the fact that the Athens were given most credit for the Greek victory, and because the Athens

Empirical Formula Lab
bstract * TERMS*
The objective of this lab was to find the empirical formula of magnesium oxide. In order to produce
magnesium oxide. In this experiment, magnesium reacted in an oxygen rich environment while inside
of a crucible. The masses before and after the oxidation were both measured. The masses that were
resulted were then used to calculate the empirical formula of magnesium oxide. The simplest whole
number in the form of a ratio in which atoms join and form a compound is known as the empirical
formula. By finding the percent composition of each element in the compound you are able to
determine the empirical formula. When finding the empirical formula it is important to know how to
find things such as the limiting reagent, percent yield along with the theoretical yield. The limiting
reagent is a substance that will not let the reaction proceed because of its presence. The percent yield
and the theoretical yield are both found by comparing the reaction and the experimental yield and
recording those results.

atoms each element contains. Empirical formulas are helpful for finding an

Catholic Church Sex Abuse Scandal
An Introduction to the Issue Throughout the 20th Century, thousands of reports about Catholic priests
and bishops sexually abusing children have been and are continuing to surface into the media. These
reports have been dealt with internally by the church rather than civil authorities. In addition, the
church has also been covering up many of the reports, paying over two billion dollars to prevent the
scandal from being leaked into the public. A letter from the Vatican written in 1997 expressed serious
reservations about reporting priests that were suspected of sexual abuse. The church has been hiding
reports and avoiding suspicion by not acting guilty. Instead of bringing the issue public they have
instead launched a three year investigation of U.S. women religious congregations which cost over
three million. The Vatican leadership also ordered a doctrinal evaluation of the U.S. women religious
leadership s central network, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious. Furthermore, bishops
have issued press releases as well as reports and studies. The United States Conference of Catholic
Bishops published two reports on February 27, 2004. The first report written by the John Jay College
of Criminal Justice included the data and statistics of the sexual abuse reports while the second report
written by the National Review Board talks about the cause and effect of the problem. In addition the
USCCB has also enacted the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young

Disappointment In Madame Bovary
One of the most common emotions humans have is disappointment, or the feeling of dissatisfaction
and emptiness. Most often, this feeling comes through the loss of love. For example, breaking up with
your partner can leave you feeling defeated and lonely. Once this happens, one usually attempts to
move on and forget about that person, sometimes in the way of finding someone to fill their void in
their empty heart. In Gustave Flaubert s master novel Madame Bovary, there are multiple encounters
with dissatisfaction that creates the theme of disappointment. The two main characters that Flaubert
uses to show dissatisfaction through are Emma Bovary, also known as Madame Bovary, and Charles
Bovary. Emma Bovary seems to be faced with empty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This also shows the conflict of how Flaubert never allows Emma to be in a grasping distance of her
desired satisfaction. She is continually always so close to her longing desire, but can never quite grab
it. The reader gets one of the first glimpses at her disappointment several weeks after the Vaubyessard
Ball, still dreaming about the magical night she had. From the beginning of July she counted on her
fingers how many weeks remained before October, thinking that the Marquis d Andervilliers would
perhaps give another ball at Vaubyessard. But September passed by without one letter or visit. After
the distress of this disappointment, her heart once more remained empty (79). That night at the ball
gave Emma a feeling like no other of how love should feel and look like. It seems like from that point
on, she has a concrete idea of what love is. With the ball still humming in her ears, she was trying to
stay awake in order to prolong the illusion of this luxurious life (79). This longing to back to such an
illusion shows that Emma is continually being pulled away from Charles and toward something she
can t attain. She continues to drift away from Charles a greater amount once she begins her affair with
Rodolphe. All was going well with Rodolphe until, of course, Emma lost interest, along with
Rodolphe losing his love for her and only

It s the fact that the true vision, the true point in which architecture takes on its clock building role, is
when the greatest creation becomes the company itself. This has to be one of the biggest
misconceptions of starting a company. I think to many people focus on one idea to start a company.
The idea they must realize is to be a successful lasting corporation they must have a foundation before
anything else.
A very important part of building a visionary company comes with a core ideology. At the same time
though core ideology must be subject to change with evolution. A company that can handle these two
majors facets is a company that will develop an employee base and stimulate the progress for growth
for years to come. All the visionary companies in this book showed exceptional knowledge for core
ideology and the need to modify the core itself. Some of the best core ideologies mentioned in the
book are broad but so direct that they seem almost common sense. For instance Merck s We are in the
business of preserving and improving human life, sounds quite broad but yet describes quite well what
Merck is about and has the ability to change for times of evolution. Merck s ideology is not only a
business statement but its what their employees work for. It gives them a sense of pride that their
company cares about what their products do other then how many products they sell. This type of
ideology is one that all companies

The Energy Of Energy Usage
Introduction
Historically, the distillation of alcohol (spirits, wine and vodka) has been a high end consumer in
terms of energy usage. According to U.S. Dept. of Energy, there are more than 40,000 distillation
columns in North America and they consume 40% of the total energy used to operate plants in
chemical industries [1]. As a result, researchers have focused their efforts towards developing
distillation columns that are more compact, utilize compressors to recirculate latent heat and possess
more effective separation technology in order to reduce energy consumption.
The principal topics of research that pose effective solutions to these present day energy challenges
are: the use of divided wall columns (DWC), self heat recuperation ... Show more content on

[3] shows that by using dividing wall columns, the uninstalled equipment cost for the total column
configuration is reduced by about 10%. The capital costs savings result from a reduction equipment
quantity. There are also indirect benefits; a dividing wall column requires less plot area, shorter piping,
electrical runs and smaller storm runoff system [3]. When compared to a conventional two column
system, capital costs savings of up to 30% is typical [2]. In summary, fully thermally coupled
columns/configurations/ arrangements require less energy than conventional counterparts, because of
providing operating conditions that avoid or minimize entropy of mixing formation, which in case of
conventional configurations occurs, more or less pronounced, at the feed stage, the ends of the
columns, and due to remixing of internal flows [8].
Self Heat Recuperation Technology
In order to separate ethanol contents from water, enormous amounts of heat must be applied to the
azeotropic mixture during distillation. According to Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, an
ethanol water mixture must be distilled at 78.3 degrees Celsius to reach the 80 proof content level of
standard vodka [9]. As a result, the heat needed to distill vodka creates the need to explore sources of
recycled energy. As investigated by Matsuda et al., self heat recuperation technology utilizes not only
latent heat but also the sensible

Self Evaluation is to critically manage one s career and integrating work with the other parts of one s

Much Ado About Nothing, By William Shakespeare
Love is never an easy concept to understand, let alone when everyone around you seems to be figuring
it out and you feel out of the loop. In the play, Much Ado About Nothing, and the novel, Pride and
Prejudice, this shows to be the main plot line. These are quite dated. However, a modern twist to this
story line is also seen in the television series, Gossip Girl. It is the typical love story; the prospective
pairs can only fall in love with each other once they recognize their isolation and fight their way
towards their own happy ending. With different plots and twists, each love story stands out in its own
way and sets itself apart from the others. In the play, Much Ado About Nothing, the prospective
couple is Beatrice and Benedict. Their relationship begins as merciless fighting and teasing between
both characters, also known as the war of wits . Shakespeare made sure to make this type of
relationship prominent and important in the beginning of the play since Beatrice s first words towards
Benedick were, I wonder that you will still be talking, Signior Benedick. Nobody marks you. (1.1.92

Beatrice and Benedick a bit difficult. Both Beatrice and Benedick witness as Claudio and Hero s love
story unfolds in a series of romantic events. This seems to put strain on their own relationship because

Love In Hamlet And Ophelia
Love is different for each and every individual. It is so powerful that people cry, suffer pain, or even
risk their lives to save it. But there are other kinds of love: elusive love, tortured love, or even the love
that you feel for someone but cannot embrace it for fear of other, larger events. It is that kind of love
that seems to be the most prevalent in William Shakespeare s Hamlet, especially when it comes to
Hamlet s relationship with Ophelia, the daughter of King Claudius s advisor, the ever forgetful and
meddling Polonius. The love that Hamlet claimed he had for Ophelia was not only fabricated, but
unhealthy, which untimely led to her death. After a long meditation on the nature of being and death,
Hamlet catches sight of Ophelia. As she attempts to return some of the remembrances that Hamlet
gave when courting her, Hamlet caustically questions Ophelia s honesty. He denies ever having given
Ophelia anything and continues to erratically claim that he loved her once before declaring that he
never loved her at all. The problem here is that no one knows the exact intent of Hamlet as he claims
to love Ophelia amidst a number of happenings that questions how genuine his love towards Ophelia.
Not only does he doubt her honesty because he knew about her plan with Polonius and Claudius to
eavesdrop on him, he is unsure of her purity and her love for him and he tells her, get thee to a
nunnery rather than give birth to sinners ( ). Increasingly agitated, Hamlet condemns marriage itself,
saying that no more marriages should be allowed, before exiting the room and leaving Ophelia in
shambles. Looking deeper into the behavior that Hamlet demonstrates in this scene, there is
completely no love that he shares with Ophelia. In a way, Hamlet seems convinced that Ophelia is the
love of her life, but yet he has the behavior of insulting her and not giving her the priority that she
needs. His character portrays a man who cannot be connected to his self and this leads him to a
number of problems as regards the way he treats Ophelia. It is not just the feelings that Hamlet has
towards Ophelia that describes his love for her but his actions say a lot on the feeling that is in the
inside. Reaching to an extent that he can

Hierarchical Social Constructs Among Chinese Americans
Hierarchical Social Constructs amongst Chinese Americans
Introduction
There are many aspects of the Chinese American culture that other ethnic groups do not understand.
Social hierarchy, an overarching aspect of the Chinese American community, is a paradigm that shapes
Chinese American culture. This social hierarchy often affect personal decisions that may prompt a
Chinese national to want to immigrate to the United States. Once here, many of these now Chinese
Americans are forced to transact with the larger American population while negotiating their spot in
their expatriate hierarchy. As a Chinese family immigrates into the US, they are faced with many
decisions in regards to their acculturation and eventual assimilation. While negotiating these obstacles,
individual Chinese Americans are faced with the dilemma of what customs they want to retain and
what cultural nuances they want to discard. As there are many thriving Chinese American
communities in large US cities, it becomes imperative that social workers further understand Chinese
American culture. According to Barnes and Bennett, Immigration and births now account for
2,734,841 Chinese Americans living in the United States, the largest Asian American population
reported in the 2000 census (as cited in Dorton Lantz, 2007, p. 121). People want to emigrate out of

The Average Property Tax Rate

Midterm
Proposition 13
Before 1978, the average property tax rate for a home in California was at a little less than 3% of the
assessed value of a home. There were no limits on annual increases for the tax rate or on the individual
ad valorem charges; the taxes based on the assessed value of the property (Stoltman, 2013). During
the early seventies the real estate market experienced dramatic growth and there was a rapid escalation
in the value of our homes. At this time assessors were required to keep assessed values current.
Because of such, property taxes were skyrocketing at a substantial rate. However, increases in the
assessed value were not made every year thus resulting in a major tax jolt for homeowners every few
years (California Tax Data, 2002). Prior to Proposition 13 local agencies could independently establish
their tax rates, and make the total property tax rate composite of the individual rates with only few
limitations. It was common in the late 1970 s for homeowners to lose their homes due to uncontrolled
taxes. Essentially, before Prop. 13 if someone bought a home on a block in the 1950 s for $100,000
and someone else bought a home next door to you for $300,000, your property tax would go up
because the assessed value of your home would go up with the new sold value, not with the price you
paid for your home. This boom of the 70 s ultimately gave rise to a tax revolt that would aim to

wealth distribution, a social injustice
Is Wealth Distribution Today Just?
In current times we often observe that many members of our society receive less than other members
regardless of whether they are no less deserving. In contrast, there are some who have ownership over
assets and earn income that they may not be deserving of. The distributive balance is upset and wealth
distribution today can thus be seen as a social injustice. This injustice that is becoming more
noticeable as people start to become aware of the facts, as we can see through the start of the occupy
wall street movements that, first started on wall street in America, have spread to other countries (one
of which being Australia). As a consequence of how wealth is habitually distributed and the way in ...

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the wealthiest 20% account for 62% of total
household net worth, with an average net worth of $2.2 million per household while the poorest 20%
of households account for only 1% of total household net worth, with an average net worth of $31,829
per household. This can be at least partly attributed to a decrease in tax rate increments. The statistics
draw on the selected income distribution indicators, which specify disposable household income
(money that can be kept and spent for recreational purposes), show that those individuals in the high
income bracket receive 40% of their total income while those in the low income bracket only receive
10%. Consequently, the net worth across households becomes even less matched as the rich not only
have a considerably higher income, but are also able to save up much more. The discrepancies
between the net worth in households are therefore exponentially larger than the discrepancies that
exist in income, which reflects the previously mentioned pattern of people accumulating wealth
through their working lives. The indignant attitudes posited by the movement can therefore be seen as
justified. However, thought it may be justified, the movement seems to lack a focused goal they
demand that some change is needed so that the situation regarding inequality can be rectified, but their
demands fail to offer articulated strategy as to how this can be

Qualitative And Quantitative
Introduction
This chapter aims in pertaining to the ways of producing and analysing data so that theories can be
tested, accepted and rejected. Since, this study is based on Form V repeaters disposition to study
mathematics in the Mauritian schools, the only way to assure the latest update associated with validity
and reliability of the data is to conduct a research. In order to have a deep understanding of the second
year students, a mixture of different method will be used which include both the qualitative and
quantitative methods.
Qualitative and quantitative research
In a nutshell, there are two main broad approaches used in the investigation of phenomenon which
include; the qualitative and the quantitative approach. One of the main objectives of qualitative
research is to provide a specific and detailed description of the research topic as it is more explanatory
in nature. The qualitative research mainly deals with verbal data rather than measurements and the
employed are mostly observation and interviews. It also has a subjective approach as it seeks to
identify human behaviour and the reasons that direct such behaviour. However, since the researcher is
heavily involved in the process, he or she tends to interpret the data obtained according to their own
biased views which skews the data gathered. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It makes use of tools such as questionnaires, surveys, measurement and other measureable data. The
quantitative research is mainly objective in its approach in the sense that it only seeks precise
measurements. It has to be noted the structure of the quantitative research design has remained static
for centuries. Therefore it has kept its standardise format across many scientific fields and disciplines.
The main strength of making use of this approach is that, it is an excellent way of finalising results

Zoroastrianism s Influence On The Formation Of Christianity
Zoroastrianism was a huge influence on the formation of Christianity. There are multiple links
between the two religions while Zoroastrianism pre dates Christianity by hundreds of years. The
evidence found through archaeological discovery and from the beliefs of present day Zoroastrianists
points to one conclusion: that although Christianity and Zoroastrianism are seen as two very different
religions, their cosmologies are so intertwined that is hard to tell which came first until looking at the
physical evidence. The core beliefs are similar and how each religion predicts what will happen at the
end of time are, as well. For some Christians, it hard to look at the evidence without it shaking their
beliefs, but by taking an outsider s perspective, one can begin see that religions are evolving
throughout the millennia. Three main topics arise when comparing the two religions: the creation
story, the story of the savior, and the revelation story. The relationships between these two religions
shows that religions may not only be divinely inspired, but also inspired from past religions. This
gives people the idea that faith evolves through the ages to better suit the current culture or state of
society.
Creation is seen in Christianity as a sacred story that explains not how, but why people exist in this
universe. Depending on the sect of Christianity, it is taken literally, or it is seen as a story that teaches
the lesson of their god s great love for mankind. Christians

power for themselves. Therefore, the boys gave up freedom and opinions in order to please the
Keepers, so that they could become more powerful. Once such example of this is Ton Ton. The story

for encouragement and hope to carry them through the rough times they experienced. Even today,
most people enjoy listening to music because they can relate to the things about which the artists sing.
Often artists sing about things that either upset or please them. These days, much of American music

we ll be failures if we don t make more money than our parents did.
The song deals next with freedom when it says, You can take my life, my land my liberty/Lock me up,

this statement still applies to our country. Freedoms are still taken away from people because of their
beliefs in God, only on a smaller scale. For example, despite the fact that it is illegal, many schools
prohibit Christian clubs from using all the resources that are available to other clubs in the school...all

Probate Process Analysis
The process of probate involves proving the validity and legitimacy of a will. This only happens after
someone dies and an interested party files the will with the local probate court. The court reviews the
will and decides whether it is valid or not. That is probate in simplest form. But, often probate is not
so simple. Admitting the Will for Probate The first step to the probate process is admitting the will. In
Texas, this is done by submitting an application for probate with the probate court. The person filing
the application can be a spouse, a child, a parent, or any other person named in the will. There is only
a limited period between the time the person dies and the time the will can be admitted to the probate
court. The courts

family. However, she gets influenced and tries drugs in the process. Whenever she s stressed, drugs
are her only constant friend. Throughout the book, she battles with her addiction, and she eventually
dies because of it. When she first tries drugs, it was accidentally. She doesn t really go out looking for
it, she gets surprised by it. On page 35 it says, I sort of asked Jill what happened and she said that 10
out of the 14 bottles of coke had LSD in them and, button, button no one knew just who would wind
up with them. Wow, am I glad I was one of the lucky ones. The drinks at Jill s party were spiked, and
Alice didn t know. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They struggle at first to make it, but they do eventually. They get turned on to drugs again. After a
traumatic sexual assault, they leave the area to open a store, which they then leave to go back to their
families. Again, they say that they won t do drugs. Everyone wants them to sell, but they try to resist.
They end up doing drugs again.
Alice runs away again, this time on her own. She struggles to survive, and only cares about drugs.
After a few weeks, she breaks down and calls her parents. She goes back home with them. Again, she
swears off of drugs. The kids she used to hang around are pressuring her to do drugs again, and even
start bullying her. This time, however, Alice stays off of drugs. She deals with the bullying. She meets
and falls for a nice guy and she s closer with her family. Things start to look up when she s drugged.
Her family believes her, but she is sent to an insane asylum. It s very difficult, but she gets through it
and is let out.

How Did Operation Barbarossa Invade Russia
1941: Operation Barbarossa
Russia tried to avoid war with Germany at the start of World War II, but this changed on June 22,
1941. Operation Barbarossa joined Russia into the World War II. This was the largest German military
attack, and unfortunately for the Russians, a very well planned operation. Operation Barbarossa s
name originated from the Holy Roman emperor, Fredrick Barbarossa, who set out to conquer the Holy
Land. This name was completely appropriate since the goal of Operation Barbarossa was to capture
the capitol of Russia, Moscow. Operation Barbarossa was an attack by the Germans to join Russia into
the war with Germany.
The plan of Operation Barbarossa started in July of 1940. Hitler decided he wanted to make an attack
on Russia. He saw a threat to his oil supply in Romania who was one of Germany s allies. Hitler
signed the first order of Barbarossa on December 18, 1940. Germany was breaking a non aggression
pact with Russia on August 23, 1939 with this operation. Although, it wasn t just Germany who was
paranoid; Russia was also suspicious of Germany. Germany s bold idea of attacking Russia wasn t just
to take over Russian territory, but destroy the Red Army (Soviet army) with large battles and
enormous amounts of demolition.
After much strategy and months of preparation, Germany invaded Russia on June 22, 1941. Germany
was well prepared with three separate army division in the North, South, and Central areas of Russia s
eastern border. Germany had about three

Flowers In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
The significance of flowers in Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle of a Death Foretold
By: Sargun Bhatia
Total words: 1445
Gabriel Garcia Marquez s 1981 novella, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, is an investigation into the
murder of Santiago Nasar through the lens of a Columbian community. It acts as a broader
commentary on the obligations to virtue, duty and honour at the expense of meaningful relationships
and rational decision making. This essay will explore how Marquez uses flowers to represent the high
standards expected of them that simultaneously result in justification for their objectification. Flowers
are also used to mask and disguise the hollow and often onerous expectations to uphold flawed beliefs
on virtue, religion and duty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This dehumanisation while firstly seems justifiable to lessen the emotional burden, is alarming when
considering that women are also given the names of flowers and treated as much. The euphoric
imagery and naming associated with these women while seem flattering, in fact objectify them. Such
is symptomatic of the role they play within society, where their aesthetics and frailty are commodities
that are circumvented by wayward behaviour. The very positioning in the Vicario household of the
flowerpots next to the pigsty, with its sacrificial stone and disembowelling table , encourages
comparison between the aesthetic, resplendent women and the pigs. The alliteration draws attention to
the role of the women and pigs as sacrifices to honour duty and appetite (not limited to the pigs),
which pre empt the grotesque imagery and reality enforced by the disembowelling table where the
victims are literally torn apart yet are a good source of domestic income . In this way, Marquez uses
flowers to compare defenceless pigs ready for the slaughter to women ready to be married. Pigs and
women are used as currency to service society, where flowers symbolise the expectations of women to
be virtuous and delicate whilst simultaneously

The Missing Plane, Malaysia Airlines Flight Mh370
In the modern democracy world, political game is no longer a game of one to many rather many to
one. Many parties see the need of employing communication professionals to develop a more efficient
campaign with favourly publicity. These communication professionals are known as the spin doctor or
Public Relations (PR) expert in dealing with the mass media to mobilize and steer public opinion
(Louw, 2010).
This article addresses the role and the relationship of spin doctoring with other players take part in
mass media, with two case studies demonstrated: one being successful and one being unsuccessful
spin. The successful spin will be shown using the example of the Islamic State Group in Syria and Iraq
(ISIS). On the other hand, the unsuccessful one will be using the handling case of the missing plane,
Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. A summary of the key concepts relevant to this article will also be
provided, followed by what led to the success and the failure of the two campaigns mentioned will be
analyzed.
The term spin doctor consists of a symbolic relationship with journalists and mass media. Both need
each other in order to generate and disseminate information within the media machine. A good spin
team knows what works is the best to hook the intended audiences, be it a mass audience or the
journalist (Louw, 2010). They write scripts for politicians or other performers and crafted favourbly
stories as sources to their advantage for journalists to find information

How Does Luis Valdez Present Social Injustice In Zoot Suit
Zoot Suit is a play, written by Luis Valdez, based on the Sleepy Lagoon murders and the Zoot Suit
riots of the nineteen forties. In this play, Valdez embodies Chicano culture and social injustice. Upon
reading the play, it is very apparent that the main source of injustice is institutional racism and it is
shown in the court scenes of this play. It starts with the Opening of the Trial (Act I,Scene 9) and in this
it proves that the court itself has already set up Henry and the gang for failure. They failed to show
any human decency in which they did not allow the boys to wear clean clothes or even fix their hair.
The appearance of pachuco culture is based of off their extravagant suits and slick hair, to forcibly
strip this away was not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its starts with the press. The press was an important symbol of racism in which they would report and
paint their own image of pachucos in order to criminalize them to the public. In this case, Valdez
cleverly uses the press character as the prosecutor as well. In this scene, the press is setting up Della to
self incriminating questions by connecting the boys to weapons that were never found at the crime
scene and trying to coerce her answers into sounding like confessions. Of course the judge was no
help because he was against the pachucos from the start, in fact in this scene it reveals that even their
lawyer knew that they were going to lose. In the end, it was the prosecution s concluding statement
that defined this as a racist trial. The prosecutor says it himself, the specific details of this murder are
irrelevant before the overwhelming danger of the pachuco in our midst (62). On a trial about murder it
is very odd to hear that the specific details are irrelevant and it proves that this trial is more than what
it is. They are not on trial for what they could have done, they are on trial for what they might do
because in their perspectives; rapists, drug abusers, or violent gang members is all a Mexican can

The Man Eaters Of Tsavo Analysis The Man Eaters of Tsavo, by John Henry Patterson, describes the terrorizing effect of a pair of man eating lions on a camp of railroad workers in 1898 East Africa. Patterson s memoir demonstrates the difficulties and influences that imperialistic Great Britain had over the Africans, and faced many issues while trying to develop the infrastructure of the continent in order to take advantage of the wealth and natural resources in the interior of Africa. Throughout the story, Patterson always wanted to be in power which represented how Great Britain wanted to be the most powerful nation in the old world, especially over all of the other imperialistic nations. Many people would say this is where inequality in Latin America began, with colonization. However, colonization is just a small piece of the roots of inequality of the region, which actually started with the natives of the lands such as the Incas, Aztecs and Mayans. Next were the Mestizos, who were of European and indigenous American decent. The more the different ethnicities mixed, the more class distinctions were created. Because they introduced foreign diseases, the Europeans and Africans eventually replaced the indigenous Americans and brought about the potential for rich diversity. Social class typically ranged from the most European being the best off to the most indigenous or African being the poorest. The original sin of Latin American history the festering social injustice at the core had done its durable damage (Chasteen 42). Males were known to have the leading role as head of the house hold and the bread winner while the woman s duty was to stay at home and take care of the house and children. While many people years ago deemed this way of life and practice to be the right and ethical thing to do, times have changed and so this kind of treatment towards a woman s equality must be questioned. Even though times have changed, this mindset of a woman s ability to be as good as a man has not completely gone away. In today s society a woman contributes to the economy and her family as equally as that of a man. Therefore, women should share equal rights and opportunities as their gender counterparts. Women s equality applies to the ethical theory of Deontology. Deontology emphasizes on the question of would this act always be the right thing to do, for everyone, in the same circumstances (Mosser, 2013). It is apparent in today s society that women s rights and equality are being looked at closer by our governments and political bodies, but there is not enough being done to make women as equal to men. Video games are the basis to why some students do not do well to school. This is because these students would get the video game addiction in which the games would take over the lives of a kid. Is this a psychological disorder like the others stated within the DSM IV? The answer for this is no (CRCHealthGroup). This addiction however is not a mental disorder, but instead many students may use video games as a stress reducer by releasing all their energy that they gain during the day on the video games. These students would only feel that a videogame is more interesting because it would have cool graphics and most games are multiplayer games which mean that they can play with their friends (VideoGameAddiction). This cause would lead to the effect of where students do badly in school because they would be too concentrated in the video games they play that they will have less time to do any homework which will lead them to not understanding the concept within what the lesson is about. In this experiment, magnesium reacted in an oxygen rich environment while inside of a crucible. The masses before and after the oxidation were both measured. The masses that were resulted were then used to calculate the empirical formula of magnesium oxide. The simplest whole number in the form of a ratio in which atoms join and form a compound is known as the empirical formula. By finding the percent composition of each element in the compound you are able to determine the empirical formula. When finding the empirical formula it is important to know how to find things such as the limiting reagent, percent yield along with the theoretical yield. The limiting reagent is a substance that will not let the reaction proceed because of its presence. The percent yield and the theoretical yield are both found by comparing the reaction and the experimental yield and recording those results. Introduction When it comes to chemistry, compounds will always more than one elements. These elements will always have a mixture of a certain proportion by mass for a given compound. When dealing with compounds it is important to find the empirical formula because it helps to show all the known elements of that compound and they display the smallest whole number of moles and the number of atoms each element contains. Empirical formulas are helpful for finding an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Catholic Church Sex Abuse Scandal An Introduction to the Issue Throughout the 20th Century, thousands of reports about Catholic priests and bishops sexually abusing children have been and are continuing to surface into the media. These reports have been dealt with internally by the church rather than civil authorities. In addition, the church has also been covering up many of the reports, paying over two billion dollars to prevent the scandal from being leaked into the public. A letter from the Vatican written in 1997 expressed serious reservations about reporting priests that were suspected of sexual abuse. The church has been hiding reports and avoiding suspicion by not acting guilty. Instead of bringing the issue public they have instead launched a three year investigation of U.S. women religious congregations which cost over three million. The Vatican leadership also ordered a doctrinal evaluation of the U.S. women religious leadership s central network, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious. Furthermore, bishops have issued press releases as well as reports and studies. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops published two reports on February 27, 2004. The first report written by the John Jay College of Criminal Justice included the data and statistics of the sexual abuse reports while the second report written by the National Review Board talks about the cause and effect of the problem. • 27. Disappointment In Madame Bovary One of the most common emotions humans have is disappointment, or the feeling of dissatisfaction and emptiness. Most often, this feeling comes through the loss of love. For example, breaking up with your partner can leave you feeling defeated and lonely. Once this happens, one usually attempts to move on and forget about that person, sometimes in the way of finding someone to fill their void in their empty heart. In Gustave Flaubert s master novel Madame Bovary, there are multiple encounters with dissatisfaction that creates the theme of disappointment. The two main characters that Flaubert uses to show dissatisfaction through are Emma Bovary, also known as Madame Bovary, and Charles Bovary. Emma Bovary seems to be faced with empty ... She is continually always so close to her longing desire, but can never quite grab it. The reader gets one of the first glimpses at her disappointment several weeks after the Vaubyessard Ball, still dreaming about the magical night she had. From the beginning of July she counted on her fingers how many weeks remained before October, thinking that the Marquis d Andervilliers would perhaps give another ball at Vaubyessard. But September passed by without one letter or visit. After the distress of this disappointment, her heart once more remained empty (79). That night at the ball gave Emma a feeling like no other of how love should feel and look like. It seems like from that point on, she has a concrete idea of what love is. With the ball still humming in her ears, she was trying to stay awake in order to prolong the illusion of this luxurious life (79). This longing to back to such an illusion shows that Emma is continually being pulled away from Charles and toward something she can t attain. She continues to drift away from Charles a greater amount once she begins her affair with Rodolphe. The idea they must realize is to be a successful lasting corporation they must have a foundation before anything else. A very important part of building a visionary company comes with a core ideology. At the same time though core ideology must be subject to change with evolution. All the visionary companies in this book showed exceptional knowledge for core ideology and the need to modify the core itself. Some of the best core ideologies mentioned in the book are broad but so direct that they seem almost common sense. For instance Merck s We are in the business of preserving and improving human life, sounds quite broad but yet describes quite well what Merck is about and has the ability to change for times of evolution. According to U.S. Dept. of Energy, there are more than 40,000 distillation columns in North America and they consume 40% of the total energy used to operate plants in chemical industries [1]. As a result, researchers have focused their efforts towards developing distillation columns that are more compact, utilize compressors to recirculate latent heat and possess more effective separation technology in order to reduce energy consumption. The principal topics of research that pose effective solutions to these present day energy challenges are: the use of divided wall columns (DWC), self heat recuperation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [3] shows that by using dividing wall columns, the uninstalled equipment cost for the total column configuration is reduced by about 10%. The capital costs savings result from a reduction equipment quantity. There are also indirect benefits; a dividing wall column requires less plot area, shorter piping, electrical runs and smaller storm runoff system [3]. When compared to a conventional two column system, capital costs savings of up to 30% is typical [2]. In summary, fully thermally coupled columns/configurations/ arrangements require less energy than conventional counterparts, because of providing operating conditions that avoid or minimize entropy of mixing formation, which in case of conventional configurations occurs, more or less pronounced, at the feed stage, the ends of the columns, and due to remixing of internal flows [8]. Self Heat Recuperation Technology In order to separate ethanol contents from water, enormous amounts of heat must be applied to the azeotropic mixture during distillation. According to Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, an ethanol water mixture must be distilled at 78.3 degrees Celsius to reach the 80 proof content level of standard vodka [9]. As a result, the heat needed to distill vodka creates the need to explore sources of recycled energy. As investigated by Matsuda et al., self heat recuperation technology utilizes not only latent heat but also the sensible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is the typical love story; the prospective pairs can only fall in love with each other once they recognize their isolation and fight their way towards their own happy ending. But there are other kinds of love: elusive love, tortured love, or even the love that you feel for someone but cannot embrace it for fear of other, larger events. It is that kind of love that seems to be the most prevalent in William Shakespeare s Hamlet, especially when it comes to Hamlet s relationship with Ophelia, the daughter of King Claudius s advisor, the ever forgetful and meddling Polonius. The love that Hamlet claimed he had for Ophelia was not only fabricated, but unhealthy, which untimely led to her death. After a long meditation on the nature of being and death, Hamlet catches sight of Ophelia. As she attempts to return some of the remembrances that Hamlet gave when courting her, Hamlet caustically questions Ophelia s honesty. He denies ever having given Ophelia anything and continues to erratically claim that he loved her once before declaring that he never loved her at all. The problem here is that no one knows the exact intent of Hamlet as he claims to love Ophelia amidst a number of happenings that questions how genuine his love towards Ophelia. Not only does he doubt her honesty because he knew about her plan with Polonius and Claudius to eavesdrop on him, he is unsure of her purity and her love for him and he tells her, get thee to a nunnery rather than give birth to sinners ( ). Increasingly agitated, Hamlet condemns marriage itself, saying that no more marriages should be allowed, before exiting the room and leaving Ophelia in shambles. Looking deeper into the behavior that Hamlet demonstrates in this scene, there is completely no love that he shares with Ophelia. In a way, Hamlet seems convinced that Ophelia is the love of her life, but yet he has the behavior of insulting her and not giving her the priority that she needs. His character portrays a man who cannot be connected to his self and this leads him to a number of problems as regards the way he treats Ophelia. • 36. The Average Property Tax Rate Antonio Gonzalez USP 120 11 FEB 15 Instructor: Jack McGrory Midterm Proposition 13 Before 1978, the average property tax rate for a home in California was at a little less than 3% of the assessed value of a home. There were no limits on annual increases for the tax rate or on the individual ad valorem charges; the taxes based on the assessed value of the property (Stoltman, 2013). During the early seventies the real estate market experienced dramatic growth and there was a rapid escalation in the value of our homes. At this time assessors were required to keep assessed values current. Because of such, property taxes were skyrocketing at a substantial rate. However, increases in the assessed value were not made every year thus resulting in a major tax jolt for homeowners every few years (California Tax Data, 2002). Prior to Proposition 13 local agencies could independently establish their tax rates, and make the total property tax rate composite of the individual rates with only few limitations. It was common in the late 1970 s for homeowners to lose their homes due to uncontrolled taxes. Essentially, before Prop. 13 if someone bought a home on a block in the 1950 s for $100,000 and someone else bought a home next door to you for $300,000, your property tax would go up because the assessed value of your home would go up with the new sold value, not with the price you paid for your home. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the wealthiest 20% account for 62% of total household net worth, with an average net worth of $2.2 million per household while the poorest 20% of households account for only 1% of total household net worth, with an average net worth of $31,829 per household. This can be at least partly attributed to a decrease in tax rate increments. The statistics draw on the selected income distribution indicators, which specify disposable household income (money that can be kept and spent for recreational purposes), show that those individuals in the high income bracket receive 40% of their total income while those in the low income bracket only receive 10%. Consequently, the net worth across households becomes even less matched as the rich not only have a considerably higher income, but are also able to save up much more. The discrepancies between the net worth in households are therefore exponentially larger than the discrepancies that exist in income, which reflects the previously mentioned pattern of people accumulating wealth through their working lives. The indignant attitudes posited by the movement can therefore be seen as justified. There are multiple links between the two religions while Zoroastrianism pre dates Christianity by hundreds of years. The evidence found through archaeological discovery and from the beliefs of present day Zoroastrianists points to one conclusion: that although Christianity and Zoroastrianism are seen as two very different religions, their cosmologies are so intertwined that is hard to tell which came first until looking at the physical evidence. The core beliefs are similar and how each religion predicts what will happen at the end of time are, as well. For some Christians, it hard to look at the evidence without it shaking their beliefs, but by taking an outsider s perspective, one can begin see that religions are evolving throughout the millennia. Three main topics arise when comparing the two religions: the creation story, the story of the savior, and the revelation story. The relationships between these two religions shows that religions may not only be divinely inspired, but also inspired from past religions. This gives people the idea that faith evolves through the ages to better suit the current culture or state of society. Operation Barbarossa s name originated from the Holy Roman emperor, Fredrick Barbarossa, who set out to conquer the Holy Land. This name was completely appropriate since the goal of Operation Barbarossa was to capture the capitol of Russia, Moscow. Operation Barbarossa was an attack by the Germans to join Russia into the war with Germany. The plan of Operation Barbarossa started in July of 1940. Hitler decided he wanted to make an attack on Russia. He saw a threat to his oil supply in Romania who was one of Germany s allies. Hitler signed the first order of Barbarossa on December 18, 1940. Germany was breaking a non aggression pact with Russia on August 23, 1939 with this operation. Although, it wasn t just Germany who was paranoid; Russia was also suspicious of Germany. Germany s bold idea of attacking Russia wasn t just to take over Russian territory, but destroy the Red Army (Soviet army) with large battles and enormous amounts of demolition. After much strategy and months of preparation, Germany invaded Russia on June 22, 1941. Germany was well prepared with three separate army division in the North, South, and Central areas of Russia s eastern border. Germany had about three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Flowers In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold The significance of flowers in Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Chronicle of a Death Foretold By: Sargun Bhatia Total words: 1445 Gabriel Garcia Marquez s 1981 novella, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, is an investigation into the murder of Santiago Nasar through the lens of a Columbian community. It acts as a broader commentary on the obligations to virtue, duty and honour at the expense of meaningful relationships and rational decision making. This essay will explore how Marquez uses flowers to represent the high standards expected of them that simultaneously result in justification for their objectification. Flowers are also used to mask and disguise the hollow and often onerous expectations to uphold flawed beliefs on virtue, religion and duty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This dehumanisation while firstly seems justifiable to lessen the emotional burden, is alarming when considering that women are also given the names of flowers and treated as much. The euphoric imagery and naming associated with these women while seem flattering, in fact objectify them. Such is symptomatic of the role they play within society, where their aesthetics and frailty are commodities that are circumvented by wayward behaviour. The very positioning in the Vicario household of the flowerpots next to the pigsty, with its sacrificial stone and disembowelling table , encourages comparison between the aesthetic, resplendent women and the pigs. The alliteration draws attention to the role of the women and pigs as sacrifices to honour duty and appetite (not limited to the pigs), which pre empt the grotesque imagery and reality enforced by the disembowelling table where the victims are literally torn apart yet are a good source of domestic income . In this way, Marquez uses flowers to compare defenceless pigs ready for the slaughter to women ready to be married. Pigs and women are used as currency to service society, where flowers symbolise the expectations of women to be virtuous and delicate whilst simultaneously ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. How Does Luis Valdez Present Social Injustice In Zoot Suit Zoot Suit is a play, written by Luis Valdez, based on the Sleepy Lagoon murders and the Zoot Suit riots of the nineteen forties. In this play, Valdez embodies Chicano culture and social injustice. Upon reading the play, it is very apparent that the main source of injustice is institutional racism and it is shown in the court scenes of this play. It starts with the Opening of the Trial (Act I,Scene 9) and in this it proves that the court itself has already set up Henry and the gang for failure. They failed to show any human decency in which they did not allow the boys to wear clean clothes or even fix their hair. The appearance of pachuco culture is based of off their extravagant suits and slick hair, to forcibly strip this away was not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its starts with the press. The press was an important symbol of racism in which they would report and paint their own image of pachucos in order to criminalize them to the public. In this case, Valdez cleverly uses the press character as the prosecutor as well. In this scene, the press is setting up Della to self incriminating questions by connecting the boys to weapons that were never found at the crime scene and trying to coerce her answers into sounding like confessions. Of course the judge was no help because he was against the pachucos from the start, in fact in this scene it reveals that even their lawyer knew that they were going to lose. In the end, it was the prosecution s concluding statement that defined this as a racist trial. The prosecutor says it himself, the specific details of this murder are irrelevant before the overwhelming danger of the pachuco in our midst (62). On a trial about murder it is very odd to hear that the specific details are irrelevant and it proves that this trial is more than what it is. They are not on trial for what they could have done, they are on trial for what they might do because in their perspectives; rapists, drug abusers, or violent gang members is all a Mexican can ...
